Transcript
- 0:00You're listening to the Be Forever Cool podcast.
- 0:01My name is Rex 45 and it's Monday night and we got to talk
- 0:06about some motorcycle racing, some Moto GPA, little bit of
- 0:10world super bike and all the insurance and outs of that.
- 0:13Before we dive into the previous round in Malaysia, let's bring
- 0:18the guys in and introduce them one at a time.
- 0:22TJ, man, welcome to the show. How you doing tonight man?
- 0:26Hanging in there, got my hoodie on.
- 0:29The weather's getting cold up here, like as usual.
- 0:33Our Patriots are 6 and 2, so we're winning, you know, And
- 0:38Moto GPS had a good weekend, but you know, race is coming to an
- 0:43end soon. But just enjoying what I can.
- 0:45Yeah, I think I got to make fun of the Patriots a little bit
- 0:47more, man, because it seems like the more I keep talking about
- 0:50them and they they keep winning. I can't believe they're six and
- 0:53two and I, I suspect a lot, a lot of the other teams believe
- 0:56it's two either. So who do you know?
- 1:01I guess you guys must be excited up north.
- 1:04Oh yeah, we're inside. I mean, it's the system, right?
- 1:06That's how we, you know, in New England we, we root for just
- 1:10basically one team, you know, other states got different teams
- 1:13to choose from. So we kind of die hard.
- 1:14We got a system we go by so. You know you're being, you know,
- 1:19you know, you're being kind when you say New England.
- 1:21Cause you know, people in Boston just, we just see, we, we say
- 1:26Boston teams, they don't really say younger teams.
- 1:28Yeah, yeah, kind. Of Boston on Mass, they don't
- 1:31want to say. New England, I was, I was being
- 1:34a little generous, but yeah, Boston, I think we we only even
- 1:37from Boston. So no, no doubt, no doubt.
- 1:39Well, let's keep it rolling, man.
- 1:42We got a pretty good show planned for tonight.
- 1:44Very excited for tonight. Let's bring Reese in the
- 1:48building, man. What's going on, man?
- 1:49Welcome back to the States, you know, did you, did you learn a
- 1:54lot? Oh, yeah, man, we did.
- 1:57We learned a lot. I learned a lot.
- 1:59It was great to be over there, you know?
- 2:01Great to be home, man. That's all you could say.
- 2:03I don't know about the Patriots. I don't know about them
- 2:05Patriots, man. I'll stay with my eagles over
- 2:06there. You know, even I live in
- 2:07Florida. I'll stay with my Eagles.
- 2:09All right well, listen man, you know y'all, y'all are getting
- 2:12them shipped so I mean you know y'all, y'all, y'all invited to
- 2:16the party now, so let's see how long you can stay but you're.
- 2:19Fighting to the party, we fighting all y'all to the party
- 2:21man, we fighting all y'all. Welcome to our party.
- 2:25Well, you know, hey, listen, as long as it's a good party.
- 2:28But we will find out, right? Exactly, man, Exactly.
- 2:32No doubt. Lewis, man, the real Louis
- 2:35Ortega, man, What's going on? Man, How are things?
- 2:38Good, good. What's going on?
- 2:39How was your weekend? Oh man, my weekend was a pretty
- 2:43good, I have to say. I'm my daughter had a tennis
- 2:46tournament this weekend. So it was, it was exciting to
- 2:49see her play and see her growth and stuff like that.
- 2:52And you know, to see the competition at that age.
- 2:54So I can't complain, man. But how about yourself, man?
- 2:58Did you get a chance to just relax and and drink some
- 3:00lemonade? No, no, I don't.
- 3:03Even when I'm not working, like I've got so many other things
- 3:06going on. It's just hard to like sit down,
- 3:09relax and just have like that time off.
- 3:12I try to have time off, but it's just hard to idle hands.
- 3:17I, you know, I can't be in my house and not be like, oh, you
- 3:19know what? This weekend I think I'm going
- 3:21to fix this. So let me take a run at Home
- 3:22Depot. Let me go to Lowe's.
- 3:23Let me you know, I was telling myself I should not leave the
- 3:27house because every time I leave the house it cost me money.
- 3:30Got you. I feel listen, I feel you.
- 3:31Sometimes I feel like I just move the stuff around in the
- 3:34garage sometimes, man. But you know, I'm I'm excited to
- 3:40talk about motorcycle racing this week tonight and this week
- 3:44because it's it's been a crazy year so far.
- 3:46I welcome everyone. But before we go, let's talk a
- 3:49little bit about, you know, the Moto 3 riders that got hurt,
- 3:52Rhoda and Dettweiler. You know, I thought we were
- 3:56going to get away with this season with nothing too crazy.
- 3:59So far. It seems like they're they're
- 4:01stable. Well, they're alive and stable,
- 4:03which is great. You know, we start with TJ.
- 4:06What are your thoughts on on I don't know if you had a chance
- 4:08to see the accident. What are your thoughts on it?
- 4:11And and you know, like I said, you know, me guys have been
- 4:14breaking bones and getting scratched up here and there, but
- 4:17it's nothing as serious as this where they've had to get Med
- 4:20lifted in Moto GP and all other classes.
- 4:23I'm sure around the world, you know, people get hurt in, in
- 4:26motorcycle racing and stuff like that.
- 4:29What? What are your thoughts DJ?
- 4:32Yeah, condolences to the friends and family, to those two guys.
- 4:37I mean, they're, they're young, young guys, you know, and it's
- 4:41just unfortunate to have something like that happen.
- 4:44You know, it's very unexpected and it's very serious to get
- 4:47airlifted from from the track. You know, it's also really good
- 4:51to have that that safety behind you, you know, like just ready
- 4:55and available. Really hope they're OK.
- 4:58I mean, I heard that one of them is in stable but kind of
- 5:02critical condition. So I haven't heard really much
- 5:05of the other one. I did not see what happened.
- 5:07I mean, granted, from where we are, we actually could have
- 5:09watched it live because it's actually during the hours of,
- 5:13you know, being up, but being. Up.
- 5:15Come on man. Yeah, yeah, you know, but, you
- 5:18know, I, I missed it. And when I they cut it, they cut
- 5:22it off in the Moto GP. So, but I really hope they're
- 5:25OK. And it is hard for all the other
- 5:27riders to like, you know, go back out there and do that
- 5:29thing. So hats out to all those guys
- 5:32who still performed and put in, put in the race.
- 5:36After seeing what happened, I think what is about an hour and
- 5:39a half delay or something like that.
- 5:41So yeah, yeah. But what I can tell is something
- 5:43like something crazy and again, and I was catching up in in, you
- 5:47know, after the fact because I didn't watch it right away.
- 5:51You know, I took a nap and, and, and kind of missed it, which is
- 5:54crazy. You know, let's, let's, we'll
- 5:56jump to Reece. Reece, what are your thoughts?
- 5:58I mean, you know, you, you, this is what you do full time and
- 6:01stuff like that. Normally we don't see these
- 6:04horrific incidents. You know, how, how, how does the
- 6:08team deal with stuff like that? I mean, nobody wants their
- 6:12rider, you know, their family member, they get hurt.
- 6:15I mean, we're all like a big family there.
- 6:16So nobody wants that. You know, we all want to at the
- 6:19end of the day, you know, break bread at the end of the day, go
- 6:22to dinner and, you know, live the fight on to another day.
- 6:25I mean, so it's kind of heartbreaking.
- 6:27You know, prayers go out to that family and to both those
- 6:29families. But you know, you know, I, I
- 6:34wish them all well and hopefully, you know, a good
- 6:36speedy recovery. I know it's going to be a long
- 6:38road of recovery for them. And then, like you said, they
- 6:41were young kids. You know, that's, that's make it
- 6:44even worse if they're young, But being young, we all know that,
- 6:48you know, you can kind of heal quicker than that's old dogs.
- 6:52So, you know, us bouncing like that, we we might not get back
- 6:56up, but you know, but at the end of the day, you know, us being
- 7:01as a team, you know, we see our riders go down and we, we kind
- 7:05of hold if it's a kind of like a bad wreck, we kind of hold our
- 7:08breath until you see them kind of bounce back up and give that
- 7:13thumbs up saying we're OK. And, you know, being airlifted
- 7:16is nobody wants to be airlifted out of a out of the, the racing
- 7:20because you see that airlift come out and then, you know,
- 7:23it's something serious and I'm critical.
- 7:24Now we're all rushed to the hospital to make sure that
- 7:26person is OK. So.
- 7:28Right, right. No, no doubt there, man.
- 7:30It's it it's it's I think the good part of this our sport is
- 7:35that, you know, the level of a medical kit that's available to
- 7:42us trackside is is is the best it's been, I think since folks
- 7:46have been racing motorcycles or or anything else.
- 7:50You know, Louis, you know, what are your thoughts on on the
- 7:52incident? And also, you know, how how you
- 7:57know, how do you think riders pull themselves together back,
- 8:02pull themselves together to go back out there and compete,
- 8:04knowing this is in the back of their mind?
- 8:06Because, you know, we could be as Superman as we would like to
- 8:08be. It's hard to sometimes to just
- 8:11shut that off, that section off for a period of time and go out
- 8:13there and give it everything you got.
- 8:15Well, first I want to give my well wishes to both riders.
- 8:18I want to, you know, hopefully they'll have a speedy recovery,
- 8:21get out of the hospital, get back to their families.
- 8:24Like Reece said, you know, there is a benefit to being young in
- 8:26this sport. You tend to bounce back from
- 8:29serious injury a little bit better than somebody.
- 8:32I mean, somebody our age would bounce back.
- 8:35With that said, I mean, I hate that it happened in Malaysia
- 8:38because we already have some really bad memories as racing
- 8:41fans of Malaysia. Malaysia is not a beloved track
- 8:45in the in the minds of a lot of people that, you know, know, the
- 8:48history of that track and what it took from us as racing, as a
- 8:51racing community. You know, I still relive that
- 8:56particular day all the time because it's it's I'm one of
- 8:59those guys that likes to watch the racing live.
- 9:01So I either stay up late or wake up early to watch it and to
- 9:05watch this live and to have watch what happened with
- 9:07Smocelli live it, you know, it, it was kind of like a cool
- 9:10reminder of how beautiful our sport is, but how tragically
- 9:14beautiful it is. You know, it's one of the things
- 9:16that makes a sport great is every time you put your helmet
- 9:19on, you really living life to the fullest.
- 9:22But you might go, you know, it's living life to the fullest,
- 9:26comes with a cost sometimes. So I hope both these riders get
- 9:30better soon, bounce back. I think that the way Moto GP
- 9:35handled it overall was understandable because in this
- 9:39situation, I mean, I hate to say the show has to go on.
- 9:42You've got 190 something, 1000 people there.
- 9:45You've got TV stations waiting for you to go live.
- 9:48You know, it's, it's a cool part of the sport, but you have to
- 9:51keep going. You have to, you know, move
- 9:52things around. But the show has to go on.
- 9:56From what I understand and what some of the riders are saying in
- 9:58GP is that they got very little information about the riders
- 10:01throughout the course of the day because they didn't want to
- 10:04influence anything or make riders decide not to ride or
- 10:09maybe protest or, you know, when something tragic happens, there
- 10:12are times when they just shut it down.
- 10:15And for whatever reason, I guess that's why Moto GP didn't share
- 10:17with the Moto GP guys and the show went on.
- 10:20But you could tell throughout the day, Moto 2 and Moto GP,
- 10:24like it wasn't the same celebratory, high energy kind of
- 10:27thing going on. There was like a little bit of a
- 10:30somber undertone because again, I mean, these are young guys,
- 10:34these, you know, these, these are not guys you expect to see
- 10:37getting airlifted away. I just hope that they they both
- 10:43come out of this OK And and I want to see them keep riding,
- 10:46you know, especially, you know, two young guys, one guy that was
- 10:50just crown champion. What is it?
- 10:52A week, A week ago? Two weeks ago?
- 10:55Yeah, yeah, I think I forget which round I got to check.
- 10:59I don't. I think it was Japan.
- 11:00I. Japan, so like 2 weeks ago or
- 11:01three weeks ago. Yeah.
- 11:02But again, this just crown champion and, you know, just
- 11:06goes to show you how quickly things can turn on a dime.
- 11:08And you have to take advantage of every moment you have.
- 11:11I always tell people every every day that I go out, you know, I
- 11:14always make sure I, you know, say hi, kiss the family and
- 11:18always keep my loved ones. And my thought because you never
- 11:20know, the next time you walk out that door might be the last time
- 11:23you walk out that door. Yeah, so.
- 11:26Yeah. So I just hope everybody keeps
- 11:28these guys and their thoughts and their prayers and I think
- 11:31we're going to see them back. You know, these these these two
- 11:33you guys are are built like nails.
- 11:35Yeah, I mean, you kind of have to be to be a motorcycle racer.
- 11:40You might not be 1 when you start, but by the time they
- 11:43finish. By nails, or you're held
- 11:46together by nails and screws and bolts and plates.
- 11:52I got one, just one, so hopefully you know, I won't get
- 11:57any more, but you never know. But you know, it is motorcycle
- 12:01racing and and we got to move on.
- 12:03As you say, the show must go on. We'll we'll put Reese on the hot
- 12:07table. So guys, if you have any
- 12:09questions for him about his travels, see.
- 12:11Dunlap sucks to see. Go ahead, start, go hot.
- 12:15Go hot in the paint right now. There you go, Reese.
- 12:20What feedback do you have to give us folks here in America on
- 12:24how what racing is like and can you now go back to the paddock
- 12:28in the US? I could say racing over there is
- 12:33it is tough, man. Everyone thinks it's very easy.
- 12:38And it's like you see all the comments and you know, we don't
- 12:43have, we don't have riders that can compete and you know,
- 12:48there's nobody that can compete. I mean, those guys are, you
- 12:52know, 10,000 of seconds off. It's like it's, it's crazy speed
- 12:57and craziness. I mean, it's, it's absolutely
- 13:00insane on those the, the brake, the how much brake pressure
- 13:04those guys are actually using. It's actually crazy on what
- 13:07they're doing, I mean. They're, when you say crazy in
- 13:10the sense of a little pressure or a lot of pressure.
- 13:13A lot of pressure, man. It's a lot.
- 13:17It's, it's, it's down to the, you know, one thousandth of a
- 13:21second. I mean, this, if you would look
- 13:24at the top ten guys, they're all relatively right there and
- 13:29they're like, how the hell are they so far back?
- 13:32But it's just like it's it's insane that that, that, that
- 13:36what they can do over there. And we're not.
- 13:41I mean, Bobby was picking up pace on us on her rez.
- 13:45I mean, he did very well on her rez and he was like, oh, he
- 13:48didn't do well. But if you look at the, if you
- 13:51look at the the speeds and the times, we were right there, OK.
- 13:56So what you're saying, what you're saying to Lewis is Alex
- 13:59Slows is really fast. Yeah, you got to say, man, those
- 14:11guys are fast. I'm not saying.
- 14:12He's not fast. I'm just saying you got to
- 14:14finish a race, the winner race, and those brothers tend to
- 14:19finish a lot of races in the crash truck.
- 14:22So they do, I mean, but they're literally on.
- 14:25They're literally on the edge every lap.
- 14:27Like they're on the edge every lap, every corner.
- 14:32And they're using the front, their front brakes more than
- 14:34everything, really. Yeah.
- 14:37I mean look at top rag. Top rag always get back from
- 14:40wheel up. I mean the back wheel up.
- 14:42Yo, I think I've seen every guy with their back wheel up, every
- 14:45guy with their back wheel up. I'm like Jesus Christ.
- 14:49And, and So what does that mean? Like the team, because I like we
- 14:51have mentioned before you went over, you know, last year Gillum
- 14:56got to go, but it was just him, the whole team came over.
- 15:01Maybe not not all at once. Like, you know, on the, when
- 15:04it's all said and done, like, you know, how, how, how does a
- 15:08team come together and, and, and say, hey, what did we just
- 15:11witness and how do we incorporate it into what we're
- 15:13trying to do here in the US? Or is it something that's not
- 15:16easy to to bring over? I mean, you got to realize
- 15:20they're the biggest factor. And as Lou will tell you, the
- 15:24biggest factor is the the tires. The tires is the biggest factor.
- 15:28They got so much grip. I mean, there's so much grip on
- 15:31the Pirellis. There's so much feeling, so much
- 15:33feedback with the Pirellis. A lot of guys love them.
- 15:38I mean, I, I didn't hear anything really negative on the
- 15:41Pirellis at all. So that is the biggest factor of
- 15:47racing is the tires. You know, with Dunlops here we
- 15:51have, I mean we don't have what they have.
- 15:54So that's, and then the tracks are kind of little bit similar,
- 15:58but not too far and they have a lot more run off, you know, a
- 16:02lot different straightaways and it's a little bit they're,
- 16:06they're actually a little bit wider.
- 16:10So, so you're they're better our tracks.
- 16:13Our. Tracks, our tracks suck.
- 16:15Their tracks suck. Like the one thing that I see,
- 16:18and maybe you can now that you've been to these tracks,
- 16:20cause I've seen a couple of the tracks overseas, is the tracks
- 16:24overseas tend to focus heavily on the crash areas and putting
- 16:29Kitty litter or rocks or something else that slows the
- 16:32bike and slows the rider down when they crash in those high
- 16:35speed zones. Whereas here, if you look at a
- 16:37lot of the tracks that we race in the US, we have a lot of
- 16:40grass runoff. Right.
- 16:42And we've talked about it, and we talked about it a little bit
- 16:44last week. Grass runoff tends to destroy
- 16:49bikes versus gravel, and Kitty litter tends to slow the bikes
- 16:52down more often than not, so the bikes don't flip ridiculously.
- 16:57Whereas here in the US, our bikes seem to be practicing for
- 17:00like Cirque du Soleil every weekend.
- 17:03Right. I mean, once you as you know,
- 17:05Louis, I mean once that that foot peg a bar in anything, once
- 17:10they're grabbing that that dirt, it's over.
- 17:12It's going to it's going to head over in.
- 17:15But if you notice in the Kitty litter, it comes in and it
- 17:17actually slows it down and just small tilt over unless you know,
- 17:20unless they're already sliding in into the Kitty litter and
- 17:23then it gets caught. Now it's going over.
- 17:26So do you think the tracks in Europe overall are safer than
- 17:30what we have here in the US when you compare it track to track?
- 17:33I mean, obviously you're in some of the best tracks.
- 17:35You're not on the on the back lot tracks where most of these
- 17:38guys are training, but on the bigger tracks.
- 17:40If you had to compare the 2 tracks you went to minus CODA,
- 17:43which for me is the only world class track we have in the US
- 17:47right now, how would you compare that to like a Rd.
- 17:50Atlanta or a VIR or a New Jersey?
- 17:55Death. So OK, so we got to feel good at
- 18:02Loudon then, huh? Loudon's death doubled down.
- 18:08That is it not gold. I'm going to sit here.
- 18:12I'll watch you guys. Y'all go ahead.
- 18:13I'm going to sit on this. I'm going to sit this one out.
- 18:16And how about the crowds? Because that's one of the things
- 18:19that I've always noticed is the European crowds are bigger, more
- 18:22engaged. Like how was the crowd?
- 18:24Because one of the things that we've noticed is World Tour Bike
- 18:27has a much lower attendance than Moto GC, right?
- 18:30But the Moto. America how do you compare the
- 18:33crowds? You know, it's funny and they
- 18:37were talking about it because I didn't like I said, I didn't get
- 18:39to ethereal, but the crowds that they have are the same kind of
- 18:44crowds that we almost have like as in Rd.
- 18:48America, Laguna, like Rd. Atlanta, you know, for what the
- 18:56facility can hold, you're almost in that same realm.
- 19:01Got you. So you think it's more of the
- 19:03facility that that's kind of hampering the crowd situation
- 19:07and if they were at least, you know, more important EP tracks?
- 19:11No, I mean, but you got to think about it.
- 19:13Those guys over there, they don't have what we have here in
- 19:15America. But we don't.
- 19:16We have football, baseball, basketball.
- 19:18We have all types of sports. Their big thing is Motorsports.
- 19:22So when Motorsports comes out, they're like, we're gonna go
- 19:24watch. This is like their big hurrah,
- 19:27right? Right.
- 19:29So that's where they're coming now they're they're, they're
- 19:32born and bred that from from birth.
- 19:36So yeah, I got a question for you.
- 19:40So, yeah, knowing that attack Yamaha and Moto America has
- 19:44been, you know, at the top for a while and you know, you have the
- 19:48championships the way, but knowing you're knowing you're at
- 19:52the top and Bobby going over over there and and you know,
- 19:56it's not like it's a reality check.
- 19:58He kind of knew where he was going to stand.
- 19:59But actually seeing the competition, like what can you
- 20:02take from there to like bring back to that to try to improve
- 20:06even though you guys are still top level?
- 20:09I mean, you can improve on certain things you can prove on
- 20:11it, like Bobby, he can improve on writing skills, But like it
- 20:15was nice when you know, you're seeing top right come into the
- 20:18into your garage and telling Bobby, Hey, come follow me, you
- 20:22know, and getting that kind of experience, you know, following
- 20:26Lockatelli and Johnny Ray, you know, seeing different brake
- 20:30markers, seeing how much brake pressure, how hard you can get
- 20:33on the brakes and different kind of riding styles and how
- 20:37aggressive those guys can be. You can take that kind of
- 20:41attributes that they have and bring it back to the States.
- 20:43And I mean, if you actually notice, if you go back when did
- 20:49Cam, like when Cam was with Yamaha to when he went to Moto
- 20:542, then when he came back, you can actually notice Cam now rise
- 20:59with his elbows out and he he never rolled his elbows out.
- 21:05Now he rides with the elbows out a lot more and poking them out
- 21:08and he's a little bit more aggressive getting in there, but
- 21:11he's still kind of that nice guy, but he's a little bit more
- 21:14aggressive now. So you can bring that attributes
- 21:18back and kind of take that. Right.
- 21:20And, and, and do you think 2 rounds is enough?
- 21:24I mean, it, it, you know, kind of thing or you do you have to
- 21:27take what you get kind of thing. But do you think it'd be it
- 21:30would have been nice to have more rounds?
- 21:34Yes and no. It's a lot of work, man.
- 21:38It's a It's a hell of a lot of work trying to did you?
- 21:41Drive the lorry, I said. Did you drive the lorry?
- 21:45Nah, it's a lot of work from literally packing, from packing
- 21:51the the crates from leaving Jersey and then like staying up.
- 21:55I think we were packing on Sunday night.
- 21:58I think we packed till like 9:00, race was over till like
- 22:02what, 5-3? We were done.
- 22:05We didn't get out of there till like 930 on Jersey on a Sunday
- 22:09and then they still had to finish up on Monday before the
- 22:12crates left two guys. So yeah, no, we're good.
- 22:17Take two, take 2. OK.
- 22:21That's what's up. That's up before we move into
- 22:24Moto GP. Any other questions for for
- 22:26Reece before we move on guys? I'll probably think of something
- 22:30by the end of the show. Oh no, Lewis he will because you
- 22:33know him and his track questions and one say the tracks fuck
- 22:38here, yes, they do. Compared to that Lewis they do
- 22:41man are their tracks are better. All sets It's.
- 22:44All about the measurements. It's it's all about the, the
- 22:48definitely. So let's move into Moto GP.
- 22:51The you know, Bagnaya won the Sprint, Alex Marquez won the,
- 22:57the main race. What you guys think of of of
- 23:00that? I have my opinions.
- 23:03I guess I'll share after the fact.
- 23:04I don't want I don't want to taint you guys thoughts by by
- 23:07throwing them out up front, but you know, you know that I don't
- 23:10want to say they're blasts from the past, right, But it seems
- 23:13like it because, you know, we we after the summer break, we've
- 23:17had this period of other manufacturers and we still
- 23:20seeing it, you know, we still seeing it.
- 23:22But you know, these guys obviously one had injuries and
- 23:26mark, I mean Pekko bike was, you know, giving them more problems.
- 23:31You know, when Pekko won Japan, I asked it was a fluke.
- 23:35You guys kind of said, yeah, well, Lewis, we'll, we'll throw
- 23:39Lewis under out there. But no, it was a fluke.
- 23:42He he he did when the the the Sprint.
- 23:46And if he didn't have a flat tire, from what we can tell, he
- 23:49might have finished third or second in the GP race.
- 23:53So they're figuring something out there.
- 23:55But what do you what do you guys thoughts?
- 23:56We go with TJ. We.
- 23:59We talking we talking about Pekko here.
- 24:02I'm just saying they both got to win.
- 24:04I mean, it's weird that I'll say this.
- 24:07It's weird how Moto GP has the Sprint and the GP, but it seems
- 24:13like the Sprint is like the wicked step sister.
- 24:17It's it's like they like, it's like they win, but it's not a
- 24:20win because. I mean, I'm surprised Petco
- 24:24actually got a win on the Sprint because he doesn't like the
- 24:27Sprint. But it was actually good to see
- 24:29him very decent and actually, you know, all the way up to the
- 24:34qualifying, he wasn't doing that well and it's surprising that he
- 24:38actually got pulled. So for him to start in the front
- 24:45row, I mean, you know, it's probably getting back to his
- 24:49always a little different. I think he definitely deserved
- 24:51that Sprint. But going into the GPI mean,
- 24:55yeah, he might have a puncture flat, but I mean, I feel like
- 24:59he's still playing the safe. I mean, I've seen top rack ride
- 25:02a wheel off a rim. So like he needs to just he had
- 25:06three laps left, man. Like you gotta you just don't
- 25:08pull over. But I I mean, I guess it was
- 25:11just super flat. I don't know.
- 25:13But I don't know, it's just maybe reflecting on his efforts
- 25:16lately. It just shows that he's kind of
- 25:18giving up. I don't know, But yeah, I mean.
- 25:23And effort giving up. I listen.
- 25:25I mean, you know, I've, I've, I've been, as you guys know, I I
- 25:28try to be a fierce supporter of all the writers.
- 25:32But you. You.
- 25:32Yeah. Right.
- 25:33You think Pekko is lacking effort?
- 25:36My goodness. I mean, they, they, they, they
- 25:39were saying that he needs to ride around his problems, you
- 25:41know, like everyone is going through the same thing.
- 25:43Everyone's got the same tires, you know, and he's just, is
- 25:49just, he's kept, it felt like he's just giving up.
- 25:52Like, like Greece doesn't like to hear the writers say, you
- 25:56know, go show me how to get these lap times since you think
- 25:58that can go faster. What do you say?
- 26:02What do you got to say, Reese, about the efforts of of Alex?
- 26:06Because I mean, TJ didn't touch on Alex yet, but Alex's effort
- 26:10and Pekko's effort, he, you know, I mean, and I think did
- 26:13Alex crash out of the of the spring?
- 26:15I don't know. I got to check, but what are
- 26:17your thoughts on those two guys? I mean, I say on Alex, Alex's
- 26:20effort, you know, in, in the race itself was great.
- 26:24I mean, he checked out. I mean, that's what he was
- 26:26supposed to do. I mean, he he checked himself
- 26:28out. I don't remember if he did crash
- 26:30out in the Sprint race. I couldn't remember right now.
- 26:33But I know with Pekka, you know, as Louis says, you know, hold my
- 26:38beer, you know, I got this. But.
- 26:42Alex finished second in the Sprint, so there we go.
- 26:45So I mean that right there tells you his efforts.
- 26:49I mean, he he, he had, but you got to look at it and and TJ
- 26:54said the best. We all they all have their
- 26:57problems, right? Every rider has their problems.
- 26:59Can you ride around the problems because you want you can't have
- 27:03a a perfect bite. You can't have a a perfect
- 27:05setup. You got to have at least a 90 or
- 27:0785% something, you know, in the realm.
- 27:11But he's he's one guy that wants a perfect bite And he ever
- 27:14noticed if he gets out front and gets clean air track, then he
- 27:18does good. But when he's behind somebody or
- 27:21whatever, I can't do this. I can't do that.
- 27:24I can't. I'm like, man, if you don't stop
- 27:26bitching and pull your pants up and just ride the damn bike like
- 27:28I'm at that point. You know, Lorenzo, I mean, you
- 27:32know, I mean, you know, oh, hey, Lorenzo is similar to that.
- 27:35He was out front and he'll, he'll, he'll kind of do the same
- 27:37thing. But if you have to fight, you
- 27:40didn't. You didn't know how it was going
- 27:41to turn out. Right.
- 27:42He just can't. It seemed like he always had
- 27:44problems and he's got to fight. But if I seen him once he got
- 27:47out front, I said, oh, he's gone, he's going to check out.
- 27:49He's got clear track. That's his normal game.
- 27:51If you get clear track in front of him, he can check out.
- 27:53But if there is someone in front of him, that's it's like a
- 27:56mental thing. He's like, oh, I can't catch
- 27:58them. I can't do this, I can't.
- 28:00So it's like a mental thing with him, like a mental block.
- 28:03OK, I mean my, my I could, I could, you know, we'll see the
- 28:07Louis, what are your thoughts, man, on on these guys?
- 28:11You know, it's, you know, got, we got 2 rounds left after this
- 28:14and you know, we were we were I on the on who's going to win
- 28:19that we post on YouTube. We didn't have any of the faves
- 28:23on there. And so I was thinking it was
- 28:24going to be Raul or Aldeguir or Acosta or, you know, Bazecki,
- 28:29one of these guys. But you know, these guys, they
- 28:32don't need a contract at the moment.
- 28:35So. No, I think, I think this
- 28:38weekend overall Aperia had a had a rough weekend.
- 28:40If you look at the overall results from all the Aperia
- 28:43riders, they didn't, they weren't shining, let's put it
- 28:46that way. I think their top finish this
- 28:48weekend was Bizecki and the Sprint.
- 28:51And then after that, you know, the tumble from where Bizecki
- 28:55was at downward was pretty steep, you know.
- 29:01So Aprilia, this, this wasn't their track.
- 29:03This wasn't their weekend, whether it was the heat or
- 29:06something, just wasn't working. And Alex, Alex had a solid
- 29:10weekend with a one and two between the two races.
- 29:13Acosta had a solid weekend, even though he had to go back to his
- 29:16garage and pretty much tell him, turn all the electronic stuff
- 29:20off. Let me just ride the bike with
- 29:22my hands, man. And it worked out for him.
- 29:25Like the dude is able to, you know, was able to ride
- 29:28considering that they turned down all the electronics,
- 29:30according to what the media is saying, because he was having so
- 29:33many problems with the setup of the bike.
- 29:36And then as far as Petco, I think his problem is he's trying
- 29:39too hard now because he was the only rider that opted to go with
- 29:44a different compound tire. He was hoping that the, the,
- 29:47the, the race would come to him later on in the race.
- 29:50Like he's doing all this extra stuff, either trying to
- 29:53compensate for something he's not feeling good with the bike
- 29:56or whatever it is. I mean, he had a solid Sprint
- 29:59and sprints are great wins. I mean, a wins AWSAW, even if
- 30:02it's a half W, it's still, you know, AW, but he's got a, he's
- 30:06got to put it together on Sunday more than anything else.
- 30:09And I, I thought that with mark out of the picture for the next
- 30:133 rounds, he might be the guy to, to focus on because now the
- 30:18team is giving him 100% attention.
- 30:20He has to be the guy that gets everything he needs, you know,
- 30:23as soon as he gets in the garage.
- 30:25What is it you need? Let's get it done because you
- 30:27need to be our top guy out there.
- 30:29And Mark, you know, and Alex is still, you know, another Marquez
- 30:32is still taking the school. Right.
- 30:34Yeah. I, I, I, I, I was, I was a
- 30:37little bit shocked at the medium and in the beginning in the
- 30:41struggles and stuff like that because he, I mean, he was doing
- 30:43everything possible to keep Acosta at Bay.
- 30:47But you know, I mean, if, if he would have got a second or third
- 30:50place, it wouldn't have been a bad weekend.
- 30:51I mean, you know, it's and, and unfortunately with a, with a
- 30:55tire, you can't. I mean, who are you going to
- 30:56blame? I don't know, some.
- 30:59Somehow the VR 46 people are going to say Alex put a
- 31:03thumbtack out there. Some they have to blame the
- 31:05Marquez brother. I got the VR46.
- 31:09I mean, you know, Petco's on the factory team.
- 31:12Why can't it be somebody from from the factory team like his
- 31:15sister? He gave my boy Joanne Mayor
- 31:21podium so. Hey Honda.
- 31:23Honda got back on the box again. Listen, you know get on the box
- 31:28of crash, right? I'll tell you what, they know
- 31:30how to celebrate in that garage, man.
- 31:33Twice in what is it, 4-4 weeks, 5 weeks they've been on the box
- 31:37and they celebrate like it's like they're coming.
- 31:41Like they're satellite team. Stop playing, Yeah.
- 31:45Like yeah, remember the CRT teams?
- 31:47Not even the satellite team. And you went way back to the
- 31:51CRT. You know, yeah, it, it's, it,
- 31:55it, it was, it was good to see those guys race.
- 31:58I, I think the, you know, after the last round and even the
- 32:02round before that, I, I think we were expecting a little bit
- 32:04more, but it seems like the heat got in the got in the way for a
- 32:08lot of riders and, and a lot of riders struggled with that heat.
- 32:12There's a lot of crashing. There was a lot of hard crashing
- 32:14and stuff like that. You know, let's talk about KTMI
- 32:21guess because you know, you like, like Lewis said, Acosta
- 32:24turned off the electric, got the electronics turned off and was
- 32:28able to do something. But you know, what's going on
- 32:31with these other riders that you know, that they, they, they
- 32:35can't find their way, so to speak, You know, I mean, you
- 32:38know, Bashin, he's doing what he's doing coming through the
- 32:42field and stuff like that. But you're not going to win any
- 32:44championships or anything like that.
- 32:46What are your thoughts on we're we're KTM outside of Acosta?
- 32:49Because I mean, he's been, I mean, he's looking for that win.
- 32:51So he might be doing, you know, as much as Bagnaya, but he's
- 32:57not, he's having better luck, so to speak.
- 32:59I mean, he may disagree because there's a couple of crashes that
- 33:02took him out of the podium. What are your thoughts on KTM?
- 33:05I mean, from from the start of the year, I mean all the news
- 33:09that they got and just not having a full team, like you
- 33:12need to have a full team, you know, like your leader also has
- 33:15to be out there. Like Maverick was pretty much
- 33:18helping them and giving them direction.
- 33:20I felt like when they were struggling and for their ups and
- 33:24downs and they just can't be consistent.
- 33:26Like some reason I don't understand, like, like Brad
- 33:30Bender is a good writer, but like, he's not helping much at
- 33:34all. Like I don't see him helping any
- 33:37situation. He's always in the back of the
- 33:39pack. Like Pedro's putting in the
- 33:40work. He's always screaming, showing,
- 33:43showing his emotion and, you know, fascinating.
- 33:47He has his first time on KTM, but he's just always in the
- 33:51back. So it's like very inconsistent.
- 33:53There's some weekends if they're good, some weekends, most
- 33:56weekends they're bad. And they still have a full
- 33:58squad. So it's just, I don't right now,
- 34:00I feel like the two guys, Brad and and Ed just trying to just
- 34:04finish the year, just see what happens next year.
- 34:08I don't feel like they can, I don't know what what they really
- 34:11can improve going forward. Obviously they can try to
- 34:13improve, but they just they just don't see it.
- 34:16All right, all right, Reese for your thoughts on KTM.
- 34:19And I mean, you know, I know Brad I think got one more year
- 34:23on his contract. I think he had like a three-year
- 34:24contract. I mean, is it time for Brad to
- 34:27find a new, a new, a new team change of pace, you know, for
- 34:32for 2027? It might be time for Brad to
- 34:36find a new series and head over to the World Super Bike.
- 34:39I think that's possible, but I agree with TJ 100%.
- 34:44I mean, you need your guy out there.
- 34:45You need Vinales. It seemed like Vinales was the,
- 34:49you know, the glue that held everything together that, you
- 34:53know, gave them the direction on which way the bike needs to go
- 34:57on what needs to happen and everything else.
- 34:59And now that he's there, it's just like, man, that was just
- 35:02like a tumbling house. It just went the shit, you know.
- 35:07And you know, Pedro Acosta shows some when he when I saw him do
- 35:11that, he she showed some real maturity.
- 35:14Then they said they show him a little bit mature to actually
- 35:18want to ride the bike with 0 electronics, like turn the
- 35:21electronics down, like just put them all the way low as possible
- 35:25and let me do this. So that, that shows a sign of,
- 35:29hey, I, I know these, these electronics are actually,
- 35:33they're supposed to help you, but these electronics are
- 35:35actually hindering me. So, you know, good, good ideal
- 35:39to him. And, and, you know, he rode the
- 35:41wheels off that bike and which is very smooth and very easy
- 35:44with it, but with Bender and, and you know them, I just don't
- 35:52see where they're going. You know, they just they
- 35:55actually need some help. Right, right.
- 35:59Yeah, I agree. And you know, we shall see Louis
- 36:02with your thoughts on KTM and you know, the electronics and I
- 36:07know we're going to see a lot less than 27 as far as
- 36:10electronics and stuff like that to give him more power to the
- 36:13riders, literally and figuratively.
- 36:16You know, what are your what are your thoughts on where KTM is?
- 36:18And you know, Brad need to come to Motor America.
- 36:24I think next year is going to be a very, very trying year for KTM
- 36:28between the financial issues that they're going through,
- 36:31because we are, you know, we can't forget those.
- 36:33I mean, they weigh heavily upon the minds of those cutting the
- 36:37checks at KTM. I'm sure they're going to have a
- 36:41lot of contracts that come due next year.
- 36:43So, you know, what do they see as their future one?
- 36:47Are they going to continue racing in Moto GP because it is
- 36:50a very big check to cash every year to go racing in Moto GP?
- 36:55Do they want to continue with four bikes?
- 36:58Do they want to actually have a true satellite team that's
- 37:01separate from their team? So obviously the tech three team
- 37:05is now owned by somebody else. So I think that person is going
- 37:07to infuse a lot of money to make sure that the KTM squad or at
- 37:11least the KTM bikes stay in the grid.
- 37:14So there's at least 4. But on the factory itself, you
- 37:17know, if I see the performance of Brad Bender as as currently a
- 37:2233 year old, next you're going to be 34 year old.
- 37:26Do I want to sign a guy for your two year contract that has not
- 37:29really given me the results that I wanted when he was at the peak
- 37:33of his youth and now he's going to be 353637 if I sign into a
- 37:38two year deal, do I want to do that with Maverick Vinales?
- 37:42You know, Maverick Vinales is a great rider, but he's another
- 37:46basket case. Either you need to be the
- 37:47greatest rider on the planet or the worst rider to work with.
- 37:52So you really have Pedro Acosta who wants to leave the team
- 37:56immediately because he wants instant results and the bikes
- 37:59not giving them the instant results.
- 38:01The only guy that they can count on for 27 is Bastianini because
- 38:04he's got no ride anywhere, so he's just working for food.
- 38:08He'll be more than happy to stay on a shitty bike because we can
- 38:11stay in the top ten just so he can have a competent ride until
- 38:14he can find something better. So a.
- 38:17Lot of question marks with the KTM team.
- 38:20Yeah, I agree with Bastianini. I mean, you know, I, I, you
- 38:23know, I won't, I won't go on my Ducati case.
- 38:26But you know, Bastianini, he, he, he, he, he is a talented
- 38:30rider. And I, I we, you know, like any
- 38:33sport, you know, we question decision making of the owners.
- 38:36I mean, their right to make whatever decisions they make,
- 38:38obviously, but as fans, we disagree with some of it, most
- 38:42of it really. But do you really?
- 38:46I mean, even though Vinjales, as you hear both Reese and and TJ
- 38:50say, I mean, he's helped the team along with even I mean, I
- 38:54guess they got rid of Miller. So but you know, you don't think
- 38:57it's worth keeping Vinjales. I mean, he doesn't he outside of
- 39:00this injury, this is like the first real major injury he's had
- 39:04in Moto GP. So he's still has a pretty, you
- 39:06know, healthy body, so so to speak, even though this shoulder
- 39:10injuries taken a lot longer to heal.
- 39:13If my choices were Bastionini, Bender, and Vinales, I would
- 39:18absolutely keep Vinales. Of those three guys, that's the
- 39:21guy would keep because he has been proven a winner.
- 39:25The biggest problem with him is if he's not happy, he becomes a
- 39:28giant pan in the ass, which is not a bad thing because you need
- 39:32that person to push you to get the bike better.
- 39:34But we've seen that, you know, he's burned the bridge at Yamaha
- 39:38and that's a bridge he's never going to go back to.
- 39:41He only has two other manufacturers left that he can
- 39:44even go to at this point. Right, right.
- 39:46But. You know, Venialis is like a
- 39:47Kevin Garnett. Don't we all want a Kevin
- 39:49Garnett on our team? TJ Reese, Yeah.
- 39:53I mean, we do, but I think he's kind of worse than a Kevin
- 39:56Garnett. Right, yeah, you, you need that
- 39:59Marcus Smart, Kevin Garnett type player all the time.
- 40:01But yeah, this. It can't be a nuisance though.
- 40:05Right. But I mean, listen what you, you
- 40:07can't, you can't, you can't criticize the guy when it's just
- 40:10not working. He's the same guy the whole
- 40:12time. Yeah, I mean, I know now we're
- 40:14like, oh, it's not working. Damn, you need Maverick.
- 40:16But when Maverick's actually out there, you're like, you know,
- 40:18this dude's like, so like, you know, you don't miss it when
- 40:24he's gone, but at the same time, like, it just it just be cordial
- 40:29in that stuff. Yeah, I'm, I'm, I've been
- 40:32rooting for a Maverick all year. I'm glad that he's got to shine
- 40:35and suck that he's injured, because I think KTM Acosta would
- 40:40have had help, right? And you know what I mean?
- 40:43And and that would, that would have, we would have been talking
- 40:45differently about a AKTM. And I mean, it's the same thing
- 40:50with with Martine, I guess with Aprilia, you know, if, if he was
- 40:54there, Bazecki would have had help.
- 40:57But although we we, I think Bazecki would have been like
- 41:01Bledsoe instead of being like Tom Brady and, and, you know,
- 41:04it's like he's getting a chance to be Tom Brady right now.
- 41:07What are your thoughts? I mean, we talked about earlier
- 41:10a little bit, but let's just dive further into it.
- 41:13The struggles, the penalties, you know, the up and the ups and
- 41:16down, they're still a better brand as far as in the
- 41:21championship than KTM. But it it you know, and, and we
- 41:26are obviously we, we can say Ducati's been struggling last
- 41:28few rounds too with their up and up and down.
- 41:31But this is the first weekend that Aprilia's really struggled
- 41:35since like the the summer break. What are your thoughts, TJ?
- 41:42Yeah, man, I don't, I don't know the the reason why they
- 41:45struggle. Like, like I said, they just
- 41:47need more help, more data. Like you figured that Raul was
- 41:53on a high after his last race and I feel like he struggled
- 41:56also. So yeah, they were just, they
- 41:58just just didn't have it. I mean, I don't, I don't know if
- 42:02there's just just a longer layout of the track where a lot
- 42:07more things are required. And I mean, there's a little
- 42:11overcast and stuff like that. But you know, everyone had to go
- 42:14out there and do the same thing, you know, but I just don't know
- 42:19if they just had enough data or why they why they struggled.
- 42:21That's just more of an insider. I just don't understand.
- 42:25OK, All right. Let's let's see if Reese might
- 42:26have a idea of why. I'll throw something out there.
- 42:29Is it a lack of funds? Because they probably poorest
- 42:32brand in Moto GP when you think about it.
- 42:36They're a small brand, you know, I, I don't think their money is
- 42:39long. Their, their, their money ain't
- 42:40like Yamaha, Hondo, Ducati, AKA Volkswagen.
- 42:45What are you? What are your thoughts, Reese?
- 42:48I mean, I mean, of course KTM is one of the lowest down there.
- 42:52I mean, but I mean, Aprilia is the struggle that Aprilia had
- 42:58this weekend. I mean, I still think that
- 43:00they're one of the the the better brands of bikes out there
- 43:06with Ducati. I think they're one of the top
- 43:09brands as far as you know, as far as you're looking at Honda,
- 43:13Yamaha, KTM, Yamaha is just shuttling all the way.
- 43:18You know, Honda has, you have seen Honda start a little bit of
- 43:25you want to say trickling up there towards the front, you
- 43:28know, or, or consistency. Yeah, KTM is struggling a little
- 43:34bit, but I think they're struggling because, yeah, it
- 43:36could be lack of funds, but then it's also, you don't have that
- 43:42that rider out there that is a well developed rider, but that
- 43:46can actually help develop a bike that understands what we need to
- 43:51win. He, that person is missing.
- 43:53Acosta can be it, but Acosta still is a little green behind
- 43:58it. You know, the Gills, he's he's
- 44:00learning his way slowly but surely.
- 44:02Acosta wants to take that that role and say I'm the leader of
- 44:05this team. But I think they still need
- 44:09that. It's just like, you know, as
- 44:11basketball in any sport, you need that vet, you need that one
- 44:14veteran player there. You need that veteran guy.
- 44:16And that's what Vinales is to be that.
- 44:19And you know, they just don't have it.
- 44:21Same thing and brilliant. They don't have.
- 44:24I think Martine is that veteran guy for Aprilia to actually help
- 44:30out a little bit. But you know that they're still
- 44:35both kind of little young. Yeah, that's.
- 44:38What I say when when you're in a 28 year old, you can't be a vet.
- 44:41Not a vet but he has. He's been around Ducati long
- 44:44enough to understand certain scenarios.
- 44:48He's been around that Ducati bike some some time now, so he
- 44:52can understand, hey, maybe we need to try this or maybe we
- 44:55need to try that. He can kind of give a little bit
- 44:57more insight, you know, and. And is it fair to say where
- 45:02Aprilia went wrong? And, and I know, you know, I, I
- 45:07don't listen. I don't want to mess with it.
- 45:09I don't want to say anything about anybody's contracts or
- 45:12anything like that and how somebody feels about something.
- 45:16Because I mean, to me it seems like a big deal for Maverick to
- 45:19leave because they didn't talk to him about signing Martine.
- 45:23But Vinyalis was that guy to be the veteran, right?
- 45:27And and he probably would have helped out Aprilia, like he
- 45:31helped out, he's helping out KTM.
- 45:34And and you know, you know, you know, you get you get your heart
- 45:38broken once and you know, was Vinyalis trying to destroy the
- 45:42engine? Was he not as his side against
- 45:44no one's in his head. So we don't know, right?
- 45:47We can only speculate and we can say whatever we don't know.
- 45:50But you know, for him to leave Aprilia the way he did, there's
- 45:54some animosity. I think that came from Yamaha
- 45:57and how he felt he was treated that this time it's just like,
- 46:00I'm not giving you a chance. This first girl broke my heart.
- 46:03You look like you might break my heart.
- 46:04So Deuces and and you know, that kind of thing.
- 46:08So do you think that Aprilia kind of screwed up by not having
- 46:12that conversation? Maybe they didn't.
- 46:14Maybe they didn't screw up because maybe they didn't think
- 46:16they that he needed that kind of talk, right?
- 46:20What are your thoughts, Louis? I think.
- 46:21It could be a basket case. Yeah, I mean, again, we don't
- 46:25know what happened behind the scenes.
- 46:26Maybe there were some already, some internal turmoil and that's
- 46:29why they didn't want to tell him.
- 46:31You know, Maverick isn't known in the paddock as being somebody
- 46:35that's easy to talk to. He's a great rider again, but
- 46:40that doesn't mean that, you know, he's great communicator or
- 46:44he's easy to get along with. There's some guys that are just,
- 46:47you know, hard to get along with.
- 46:48Whether you like it or not and whether you respect them on the
- 46:50track, they're just difficult to get along with.
- 46:53And I think maybe Aprilia saw an opportunity to get two really
- 46:56young, talented riders and said this is the opportunity we got
- 46:59to take as a team. This is what we have to do.
- 47:01Maybe Maverick was asking for more money than Aprilia was
- 47:04willing to give them. Again, these are negotiations,
- 47:07things that we don't know if. If Vinales was asking for 1 1/2
- 47:13times what Bez is getting, then they got a great deal.
- 47:16By getting Bez, they got a young rider that's put up some great
- 47:20numbers and done everything else.
- 47:22And with his time with the Prelia, I mean, really, what did
- 47:25it Vinales do when he was with the Prelia?
- 47:27You know, it's not like he lit the world on fire.
- 47:29I don't remember seeing how many wins he had.
- 47:30One win, one win. So Bez is already beaten his one
- 47:35win several times over, right? Right.
- 47:39So you know. Financially, they got a better
- 47:41deal by getting Bez and even if he did get a little bit butt
- 47:45hurt. This is the the name on the
- 47:47building. The name on the check is is
- 47:49Piaggio is not Vinales. You work for us, man.
- 47:52We don't work for you. If we tell you you're going to
- 47:55work with this person. If you don't want to work with
- 47:57them, that's a you problem. You know, I don't have to tell
- 48:01you everything I'm going to do. I thought this was your chance
- 48:04to completely do a a AA180 on. You're my employee.
- 48:10You're my employee. I was.
- 48:12Like, OK, he's coming around. I, I, I do like a AA9097, maybe
- 48:19in A10189. I'll give him a little props
- 48:25because he is, he's one of the most talented riders in the
- 48:28paddock, hands down. I can never take that away from
- 48:30him. But you know, from, from what's
- 48:33been said through the media and so forth, he's not always the
- 48:35easiest guy to get along with, not the easiest guy to have on
- 48:38the team. And that's another dynamic that
- 48:40we're not looking into. You know what, what in KTM
- 48:44internally might need to change outside of the riders, You know,
- 48:47we have the same mechanics, the same techs, the same lead
- 48:50technician, the same team principal for all this time.
- 48:54You know, maybe it's time to change the team principle over
- 48:56at KTM. Maybe the, you know, change some
- 49:00of those faces around because the faces on the bikes you can
- 49:03keep a million times. If your coaching team sucks,
- 49:06you're still going to have a shitty product out there.
- 49:08Right. You know, the qualities that
- 49:10Maverick has, I mean, there's some principles that have that
- 49:13same, that same character and, and that's a good thing for
- 49:17them, but for him it's not. So you know, it's tough when you
- 49:21don't when you don't sign a check, as they say.
- 49:27Let's talk about Speaking of check, let's talk about Honda.
- 49:29Because as, as Marquez told Zarko and some of the other guys
- 49:36some months back on Honda, it's like, look, yes, I gave up a lot
- 49:39of money. So don't waste it doesn't seem
- 49:42like Honda's wasting the money they got back from Marquez.
- 49:47And is it? Is it it?
- 49:51Is it time to say they're officially back?
- 49:55No, we're not going. We're not going to jump that
- 49:57gun. Yeah, I mean I can, I can see
- 50:02improvement. I mean if if mirror would have
- 50:06had stayed up maybe 10 more Grand Prix than possibly we.
- 50:11Could have. He's had over 44 crashes.
- 50:16I mean, that's my guy. I like, I like Mirror from like
- 50:19when he won his first championship and and stuff like
- 50:22that, but. The Suzuki guy.
- 50:24Yeah, yeah, all right. Don't say nothing.
- 50:29But anyway, yes, OK. So I feel like if he's finished
- 50:34with more grand prixs and Luca was around more, I feel like
- 50:38they'll have a better step than they're making now.
- 50:42It's a little late in the season, but I don't want to say
- 50:44they're officially back yet. But I can say that they're
- 50:47making steps. Right steps all.
- 50:50Right, all right, you know, Reese and you said no, but I
- 50:54mean, they could be like, you know, Colorado State with Dion,
- 50:58their second year, you know, it's a lot better than their
- 51:00first previous five years, you know, and and Honda, you know,
- 51:05there again, you know, crashes here, crashes there as you know,
- 51:09these guys are on the limits all the time.
- 51:11So, you know, you blink and you crash.
- 51:15What, What do they need to do to for you to say they're back?
- 51:19Consistent consistency is key. I mean, it's not just show like
- 51:26they're doing now. You know, there's one race they
- 51:28show grade, then the next one they're like nowhere to be fat
- 51:31round. And it's like the next one,
- 51:32they're nowhere around the next one they come up, they're in the
- 51:34top ten. Give me more consistency.
- 51:37And then I could say, hey, they're they're making a push to
- 51:40come back. I mean, right now they're
- 51:42showing a lot more improvements than the blue brand.
- 51:46You know, it sucks, but they're they're showing their
- 51:51improvement. They're showing that, you know,
- 51:53they didn't waste that money that mark has left on the table.
- 51:56You know, they're actually taking the initial steps to
- 51:59improve the bike and do what they need to do.
- 52:03You know, and I, I keep saying this all to a lot of people.
- 52:06I mean, you have one more year of the one thousandths.
- 52:09You got one more year. After that year, it's almost
- 52:12like a, you know, start from everybody.
- 52:14Everybody starts from zero. And, you know, we just hopefully
- 52:18everybody can, you know, come to the table at that time.
- 52:21Yeah, I mean, I do think we we'll move into it, but the
- 52:24riders, the the the teams that are in they got bikes and other
- 52:28series might have a better chance of that.
- 52:32Lewis, what are your thoughts on Honda, where they're at, and you
- 52:37know what you know? Are you saying they're back?
- 52:39Not yet. I'm saying they're further ahead
- 52:43of than Yamaha at this point. You know, I'll definitely say
- 52:46that I've said that for a while now.
- 52:48I felt that they have been improving in the right ways.
- 52:52And you know, nobody ever said that the Honda didn't have
- 52:55motor. I was going to bring that up
- 52:58because on the straights with Luca Marini, we thought we
- 53:03thought some bikes was going to. He was right there.
- 53:06So Honda doesn't have a problem with the motor.
- 53:09Honda's always had problems with stability in the braking and
- 53:12corner speed and edge grip and you know, things like that.
- 53:15So, and some of that you can get mechanically, some of that you
- 53:18can get through electronics. And some of that you got to find
- 53:21a rider that can ride around some of those issues.
- 53:23And they had that rider for a long time in Marquez.
- 53:26And now they're trying to build a bike that's a little more
- 53:28suitable for more guys than just one guy.
- 53:31And that's what I'm hoping Ducati stays away from, is don't
- 53:34don't make the bike so Marquette centric that it becomes to a
- 53:38point where nobody else can ride it.
- 53:40And Honda did that for a long time and now they're kind of
- 53:42having to go back to the drawing board and build a bike.
- 53:46But the motor was never the problem.
- 53:48You know, the bike puts down ridiculous amount of power, you
- 53:52know, So I feel that they're definitely ahead of Yamaha by a
- 53:55few steps because they don't have to build a motor from
- 53:57scratch. They have the motor, they know
- 54:00they have the overall chassis. They just have to get these
- 54:02finer points figured out and they're doing it.
- 54:04I mean, they're they are investing, they're doing the
- 54:06right things and I think they're doing it in a way that makes
- 54:09sense. I mean, they're not just going
- 54:11to throw all the money at this thing because again, next year
- 54:14is the last year for these bikes.
- 54:15So I'm not going to dump all my R&D into a bike that I'm
- 54:18scrapping in 18 months. You know, let me take some of
- 54:22that R&D money and start putting it towards that bike for 2027.
- 54:25So when that season kicks off, we're not at the back of the
- 54:29table, we're at the front of the table.
- 54:30You know, we're, we're doing the right thing to get our bike back
- 54:33up to the top step as quickly as possible.
- 54:36OK. I just hope that the riders
- 54:38survive between now and then. You know, if, you know, if Luca
- 54:42what, what we see Luca and mayor doing, I mean, you know, if
- 54:47Marquez was on that bike, I mean, wouldn't it be a winning
- 54:50bike because I mean the Ducati. It would it would be a winning
- 54:53bike because of him, but not because of the bike.
- 54:56Well, I mean, we could say that about a 25.
- 54:59You know Ducati? Yeah, except his brother's
- 55:03winning on it also. That's a 20.
- 55:05That's a 24. 20 ish. Listen, in some states it
- 55:10matters. I I think, I think.
- 55:12Honda is doing the right. Thing yeah, I think Honda is
- 55:15doing the right thing, the right way because you see what Mir, if
- 55:19you look at Mir and Marini, they have very similar styles.
- 55:24So they're making a bike to work with a specific style, very
- 55:28smooth, very fast corner type of style, not a hard breaking
- 55:33shooting point, you know, kind of style where you have to kind
- 55:35of go into the corner and you have to use your rear brake to
- 55:38get that last 2% of the turn done because your front brake is
- 55:41already gassed out and you're going to crush the front end.
- 55:44So they're changing the dynamics of the bike away from what
- 55:48Marquez is good at. So something that more people
- 55:50could be good at and that's what they need.
- 55:52They need a better rounded all around better bike.
- 55:57OK, I agree. You know, before you leave off
- 56:00Honda Zarco, he's looking better, still crashing a bunch.
- 56:04Some cat. I I saw they were cheering him
- 56:06on because he finished 15th. I don't know if they're saying
- 56:09goodbye to him. I don't know what.
- 56:11They saying goodbye, They saying goodbye.
- 56:14Goodbye, goodbye, goodbye. Good riddance.
- 56:17And you know, this is on Honda, right?
- 56:20This is on Honda for I mean, I mean, I shouldn't say it's on
- 56:23Honda because maybe somebody wrote them a fat check for him
- 56:25to come over. We don't we don't know.
- 56:28But and you know, they they're shipping them off to to world
- 56:32super bike, but this is on Honda because you know, this guy needs
- 56:36like Raul Fernandez. He needs more time.
- 56:38I don't think he's a bad rider. He needs more time.
- 56:42Some. No, he's a bad.
- 56:44Rider they don't like, they don't like giving time though.
- 56:46How much time can you get though?
- 56:48He's like, hey, I need time. I'm in the world.
- 56:50State he he really got a. Year and he was hurt ATM don't
- 56:54give you that sometimes you know like you know like certainly
- 56:57cash don't give you that one year in and you're out Hey let
- 57:02me garden go on. We trying to raise this ain't no
- 57:04fundraising case. Come on, listen, man, now let's
- 57:08let's let let let me know I've this has been one of my gripes
- 57:11with Gardner, with Ika Luku Ono, with some cat.
- 57:16There's some guys that get a bunch of time, but listen.
- 57:21Brad Bender got a lot of time. You know, Elise and Paul got a
- 57:24lot of time, Bradley Smith got a lot of time, you know, Tito Ruby
- 57:29got a lot of time. Reading had a lot of time in
- 57:32these in GP like and they and these guys barely got wins so
- 57:37like. That's what I don't I.
- 57:38Don't get like how? How do we?
- 57:42Hey, hey. But you got to say they had a
- 57:44lot of time. But some of those guys you
- 57:46named, they at least were top 10, at least top 10.
- 57:50As a rookie. As a rookie.
- 57:54Where did didn't they get it like once?
- 57:56Am I? Because if I'll go back in that.
- 57:57Listen, listen, yeah, Kagame got pulled once too, right?
- 58:01So I mean like some crash. He he, he would have got, he
- 58:03would have got it a little bit of a, you know, situation.
- 58:05When When nobody's going to track.
- 58:08Listen, you never know. It's Moto GP.
- 58:10You never know what can happen until you watch.
- 58:12Everybody crashes out like some Chad.
- 58:14Just need to go find something else to do.
- 58:17That's what he need to do. It's tricky, right?
- 58:21Because he probably should have stayed in Moto 21 more year
- 58:23because he probably would have been a force in Moto 2 because
- 58:25he was coming into his own Moto 2.
- 58:27But it's tough because as a Moto, and I, and I'll say this
- 58:30with, I think Raul Fernandez came to Moto GP too soon as
- 58:36well. I think he should have stuck
- 58:37around and stayed another year and be at the front of the front
- 58:41of the Moto 2 grid instead of coming into Moto GP and
- 58:45struggle. So we do see it when these guys
- 58:47come early. But also if you don't take the
- 58:50ride, you also see that you get blacklisted.
- 58:52Like, you know, Roberts and some of these other guys that didn't
- 58:55jump on the Perilia when it was, you know, worse than the Honda
- 58:58the ride. Yeah, that's tough.
- 59:02That's tough. I do agree with that.
- 59:03Like just got to go with the floor, I guess.
- 59:07I mean, I mean, so I've just still got to ride and I'm still
- 59:11an emoji P. But you know, I mean, his times
- 59:14are not too bad, but they're just not good enough by by a
- 59:20lot. Like like he's I feel like he's
- 59:23keeping pace, but he's like, I mean, if you want to call being
- 59:27a second a second-half off not close.
- 59:29I mean, I guess that's really not close like like like all of
- 59:33a sudden the past few years all these riders are within 1/2 a
- 59:37second from each other, but after like years before it was
- 59:40within one or one, two, one or two seconds.
- 59:42So yeah, it's just unfortunate. I mean like and and the bike
- 59:47that he's on I guess is also developing too, so.
- 59:50Well, listen, I mean to sign Diego Marira is, I'm not going
- 59:54to sit here and say he's not a top notch rider and doesn't
- 59:56belong in Moto GP and stuff like that, but they are breaking the
- 59:59mold because he's not Asian. And they've been kind of doing
- 1:00:02that for almost 8 to 10 years to have an Asian rider on on, on
- 1:00:06the squad. So I can't believe Samkat did
- 1:00:09that bad that they said no more. Well, I, I think that might be
- 1:00:14with, you know, what are their options?
- 1:00:16What, what other Asians do they have at Moto 2?
- 1:00:18That's an option. Let's keep keep them for another
- 1:00:20year. I mean, listen talking to
- 1:00:22Nakagami. I love the guy, but like, like,
- 1:00:25you know, he started out the same way as Samkat and you know
- 1:00:30what I mean? Like I said, he got one pole I
- 1:00:31think and it was it her Herz or it was one of the Spanish
- 1:00:34rounds. And he crashed out first lap,
- 1:00:37crashed out right so. So he was consistent with what
- 1:00:41you're saying? That's what I'm saying and I
- 1:00:45think he came in in 15. I think 15 to 16 is when he came
- 1:00:48in. But like, you know, it's it and,
- 1:00:50and the blast when the bike was, you know, really bad.
- 1:00:54But you know what I'm saying? So it, it, you know, it, it's
- 1:00:56weird. I mean, I, I'm glad to see him
- 1:00:58in, in, in world super bike and stuff.
- 1:00:59But let's talk about the Yamaha before we get into world super
- 1:01:02bike. You know, Miller, you know, I,
- 1:01:06you know, I know some people question why Miller got
- 1:01:09resigned, but when we see these efforts from him, granted, like,
- 1:01:14you know, he doesn't have the same luck.
- 1:01:16And to see how dejected he was, you know, when he crashed out,
- 1:01:22you know, it, it, it, it's pretty, it's pretty wild to see
- 1:01:25because it's kind of, you know, as you guys know, you know, you,
- 1:01:29you know, sometimes you don't know why things ain't working
- 1:01:32out in that moment and, and stuff like that.
- 1:01:35So what are your thoughts on where Yamaha is?
- 1:01:37Because they're, they're showing flashes of, you know, you know,
- 1:01:41one lap speeds and stuff like that.
- 1:01:43And they can qualify fairly well, but they really stay, I
- 1:01:46don't want to say they're struggling like KTM, but their
- 1:01:48their struggles seem to like once the tire falls off, they
- 1:01:53they turn into like a, a Fiat. I mean, yeah, they're really
- 1:01:58struggling. I feel like there's just still a
- 1:02:00lot of Yamaha fans or a lot Yamaha believers out there for
- 1:02:04for GP. Like they just want to see them
- 1:02:06do good because, you know, they got fabulous a really good
- 1:02:09value. Don't want to waste that talent.
- 1:02:12And he's been proving it vice not showing it.
- 1:02:14Jack Miller, I mean, he's just been up and down, up and down,
- 1:02:19up and down, up and down. I mean, granted, he just had his
- 1:02:21Grand Prix hopefully gave you some confidence and you know,
- 1:02:25it's all kind of like not about you, but about you.
- 1:02:27So you can like use that to help a little bit.
- 1:02:32I mean, and then Miguel, I think he crashed out in sprints.
- 1:02:36So yeah, it's just not really looking good.
- 1:02:40That V4 was terrible. I think like and I think it it
- 1:02:49shouldn't have been been out there.
- 1:02:54I mean, I mean, they try, they try to get results.
- 1:02:57I mean, it was just like it was just, I mean, obviously trying
- 1:03:01to see what it got. It's just it just didn't look
- 1:03:03good. It didn't look good.
- 1:03:05Listen man, there are a lot of people that roll something out
- 1:03:07for the very first time. Yeah.
- 1:03:10It don't even make it down the street.
- 1:03:15You know, I gotta go back to the drawing board like you.
- 1:03:17Know I feel, I feel like Fabio right now.
- 1:03:20You know, you know, you know, Einstein is some of these guys,
- 1:03:23man, 100 a thousand experiments before they get it right.
- 1:03:26I mean, you know, it's, you know, at Reese, come on, you
- 1:03:30know, you guys, how many, how many stuff you guys have in the
- 1:03:33warehouse that didn't even make it on the bike?
- 1:03:37There's more parts that. Don't make it on stuff than do
- 1:03:40because you know, I don't want to say it's trial and error, but
- 1:03:43it's trial and error. What are your thoughts, Reese?
- 1:03:45Yeah, trial and error that testing not not during race
- 1:03:48weekend like trial and error that testing man, I don't know
- 1:03:54about no race weekend. Race weekend we trying to win.
- 1:03:57It's the weekend when? You send the bankers away and,
- 1:04:00and, and you know, you keep all the the engineers.
- 1:04:04I mean, you keep putting that V4 out yeah, you going to send the
- 1:04:07bankers away not wanting to invest like that thing is dog
- 1:04:11slower than the in line forward like what the F is this?
- 1:04:14But I mean, with, you know, keeping Jack on the and, you
- 1:04:20know, with Jack, I mean, he shows his, he shows his little
- 1:04:23spurts here and there. I mean, over this.
- 1:04:26I think with Miguel, I mean, if you, you know, between Miguel
- 1:04:29and between Miguel and Jack, I mean, they kept the right one.
- 1:04:32They kept Jack. So, you know, that was, you
- 1:04:37know, for that. But I mean, at this point in
- 1:04:39time, you're getting ready to almost lose Fabio, you know, for
- 1:04:42the 27th season, you're getting ready to lose him.
- 1:04:44He's going to be like, yeah, I'm done.
- 1:04:45I'm calling. He's where's he going to go?
- 1:04:47He's not, he's not going anywhere.
- 1:04:48He's not going anywhere. He where he where he going to
- 1:04:50go? Han I mean Costa's going to
- 1:04:53Honda. Like where are you going to go?
- 1:04:56He he he can just make noise and get a fatacon track and and and
- 1:05:00get more pearls. Lewis, what are your thoughts on
- 1:05:05Yamaha? Is it the V4 or is it the test
- 1:05:09rider? Augusta Fernandez has not been
- 1:05:13tested. Like I don't think he should be
- 1:05:15a test rider. Yeah, but think of it this way.
- 1:05:17How long was Stephen Brattle a test rider for Honda?
- 1:05:21You know, you just need to have a test rider, somebody that can
- 1:05:25give you feedback the right way, not necessarily the fastest guy,
- 1:05:31the right guy that can give you feedback.
- 1:05:33And sometimes the guy that can give you the best feedback is
- 1:05:35not the fastest guy. He might be, you know, a half a
- 1:05:38second, 3/4 of a second or even a second slower than the guys at
- 1:05:42the front, but he can feel things and explain them to the
- 1:05:45engineers better than a super fast guy.
- 1:05:48Like if I had to build a bike tomorrow and my test rider, the
- 1:05:51two options are going to be Mark Marquez or Maverick Vinales.
- 1:05:56I would pick Maverick Vinales because Mark Marquez is going to
- 1:05:59give me great feedback for a bike for him.
- 1:06:03Right. Vinales is going to give me
- 1:06:04great feedback to make a great bike.
- 1:06:07OK, so but but Fernandez is not that.
- 1:06:13But if if that's the case, then Michaely Piero, he tests all the
- 1:06:17Ducatis, our Ducati ship boxes cuz he's he's slow as he's slow
- 1:06:22as. Balls the 25 man you you.
- 1:06:24I'm on record. I already complained about the
- 1:06:2525. I already said it to me.
- 1:06:27It's the worst bike since the 2020.
- 1:06:29So then blame Michele Piero cuz he's the one that's testing or
- 1:06:33blame Lucas Salvadori. Again, you know, that's what
- 1:06:36I'm, that's why I'm asking this, cuz you know, but you know, it's
- 1:06:41a different era, right? And I, and I get what you're
- 1:06:43saying, but are you telling me there's no former Moto GP riders
- 1:06:48that's had a better career than than Fernandez to be A, to be a
- 1:06:52test rider? The only good one that wants to
- 1:06:54do it is Danny Pedrosa. What other former GP rider would
- 1:06:59you want to Jorge Lorenzo? Yo, my man's eating a lot of
- 1:07:02arepas. He's looking real pudgy around
- 1:07:05the middle. He's.
- 1:07:05Starting to look like some of these retired European football
- 1:07:08players. My man's like what I don't have
- 1:07:11to work out anymore. Bet you don't have to dare me
- 1:07:17and. Then I mean we do got Dolby.
- 1:07:20Dobby's Dobby does ride here and there.
- 1:07:22But you know, yeah, he's he's he.
- 1:07:24But he's just coming on though. He's replacing Cal and Cal been
- 1:07:26hurt for like a two years since his accident he seems like he's
- 1:07:29been hurt. And all right, so outside of
- 1:07:31those two guys, who else do you have that's going to want to?
- 1:07:34Do it well. They, they, they lost the lace
- 1:07:37cause the lace is with Honda. I mean, Rossi's racing.
- 1:07:41So he's not going to come in and, and be a test rider for
- 1:07:44sure. I mean.
- 1:07:46I mean, I wasn't expecting like, you know, Fernandez to come in
- 1:07:51and and be top 15. Obviously it's a new project,
- 1:07:54but like they're literally transitioning to this bike
- 1:07:58pretty soon. Like it's going to be a fabulous
- 1:08:00hands in a couple months or in a month or two.
- 1:08:03Obviously his scale level will help improve it, but like, you
- 1:08:06know, yeah, Mapira was way down the path.
- 1:08:08He was like 20th, you know, but like and, you know, just see
- 1:08:13like chanter not to pick on him, finish ahead of him in the
- 1:08:16Sprint. And the GPI know it's not about
- 1:08:18the speed. It's just I feel like it the
- 1:08:21direction that Yamaha is trying to head, they should show more
- 1:08:25improvement. And to a fan, maybe they're
- 1:08:27seeing something we're not seeing.
- 1:08:29I think the best test rider they have is Alex Renz.
- 1:08:32Take him off the factory seat and put somebody else in the
- 1:08:35factory seat and makes Alan because Alex Renz, he just
- 1:08:39doesn't have it, man. He now it's very clear that he
- 1:08:42just has not recovered from his last injury because he's just,
- 1:08:46he's a shell of the guy he was just three years ago.
- 1:08:49And it's not the bike because I mean, he's finishing either
- 1:08:52right in front of or right behind Jack Miller.
- 1:08:55So it's it's definitely not the bike.
- 1:08:56He still has skill, he just doesn't have that extra piece to
- 1:09:00to get him to the front anymore and I think he's riding out his
- 1:09:03contract once his contract is done.
- 1:09:05If I was Yamaha, I would keep him as a test rider because that
- 1:09:09dude is fast. That dude is smooth.
- 1:09:11That dude can help you build a fast bike.
- 1:09:14Just take him out of the racing environment and put him on his
- 1:09:17full test riding environment and he will help you develop a bike
- 1:09:21really, really well. He'll be testing that V4 next
- 1:09:23year for the whole season. From 18th place, did you guys
- 1:09:30give that seat to somebody else? I I think Renzel figured it out.
- 1:09:33I believe in Renzel like he's. Too.
- 1:09:35But I think, I think it's the writing's on the wall that next
- 1:09:40year will be his. Last year I don't.
- 1:09:41Figure it out. He's figuring out how to be a
- 1:09:44test writer. You.
- 1:09:46Think you think it's hard to become a test writer.
- 1:09:48Like, you know, you say it's probably fit for him, but what
- 1:09:51if he's like, no, I don't want to do that.
- 1:09:54Remember, when you're a test rider, you're not traveling
- 1:09:57around the world anymore. You're talking about a guy who's
- 1:09:59married with kids who who probably would, would, doesn't
- 1:10:03mind flying away for like a week to go test ride and then come
- 1:10:06home and be with his family again.
- 1:10:08You know, he's got plenty of money.
- 1:10:09He can retire, make his money on the side.
- 1:10:11He's still going to make money off his name and off his his
- 1:10:13fame, but for certain guys, this is the best reality of after
- 1:10:19racing, what am I going to do after racing?
- 1:10:21He's not going to be a commentator because Polis
- 1:10:23Barbara has already locked that down.
- 1:10:25It's. Just made.
- 1:10:29It's just made for certain people, you know?
- 1:10:31Yeah. And, and even when he's on the
- 1:10:33mic, he's not the most charismatic person in the world.
- 1:10:36I mean, he's a great guy, but he's, you know, he's not having
- 1:10:38everybody's attention and, and making the inflections that you
- 1:10:41need to really grab the the audience's attention.
- 1:10:45Commentating is is a difficult game in itself.
- 1:10:48But you put him on a bike on a track with engineers, let him go
- 1:10:52out, run paces. He knows how to ride, he knows
- 1:10:54how to go fast. And he would tell you how to fix
- 1:10:56that bike minus the environment and the stress of a race weekend
- 1:11:02and traveling for four weeks in a row and not seeing his family
- 1:11:06and all this other stuff that does at his age and where he's
- 1:11:09at his life. I'm sure that that that that
- 1:11:11takes a toll on him, man. I can, yeah.
- 1:11:15Yeah, we'll see. I mean, I think he got one year
- 1:11:17left and I think he wants to win on another manufacturer before
- 1:11:20he bows out. So, you know, he got at least 24
- 1:11:23rounds to at least try to win a race.
- 1:11:25So I mean, that's a that's, you know, at least 44 round 44
- 1:11:29races. One of them he'll get.
- 1:11:31But let's talk about girl super bike.
- 1:11:34We got some, you know, more Moto GP, more Moto 2 riders coming
- 1:11:37in. You know, you guys, you know, I
- 1:11:40said you guys, Reese and and Lewis, you guys have been
- 1:11:42following the sport and been in the sport longer than I have.
- 1:11:45From what I can tell, it looks like this is the most most Moto
- 1:11:50GP or Moto 2 riders I've seen in World Super Bike paddock.
- 1:11:53I don't know, Reese, when you got there, if you know, you know
- 1:11:57if that's a good thing or not, because now you know folks
- 1:12:01coming from different classes. It's going to be harder to get
- 1:12:03into World Super Bike when, you know, you got the people leaving
- 1:12:06Moto GP and Moto 2. Baltazari's coming back to Super
- 1:12:12Bike next year. He's did like a world tour with
- 1:12:15all these other classes and stuff like that.
- 1:12:18Is it a good thing for these former Moto GP riders to be in
- 1:12:23Moto, to be in World Super Bike And, and, and I mean, it's like
- 1:12:26at least top 10? Yeah.
- 1:12:29I mean, it's always good. I mean we always just say
- 1:12:31sometimes World Super Bike is where, you know, the old GP
- 1:12:35riders go to retire and die but not.
- 1:12:38A young, not a young, not a you know, right?
- 1:12:40Are you playing 425? Right.
- 1:12:43So I mean, it's a good thing. Is it just just shakes up the
- 1:12:46paddock? I mean you got it's a lot of
- 1:12:48things that are moving pieces. You got Moto GPS guys getting
- 1:12:51World Super bike, you got World Super bike guys coming over here
- 1:12:53to Moto America. So you got a bunch of things
- 1:12:56that's in play and it's just going to shake up the paddock
- 1:12:59and it's just going to make the series more interesting.
- 1:13:02So I think it is a good thing. It's just going to keep the
- 1:13:04sport growing and actually show some different views for people.
- 1:13:09OK. All right, TJ, what are your
- 1:13:11thoughts on that? I mean, I'm, I'm excited to see
- 1:13:14next year the Lowe's brothers are going to win everything.
- 1:13:18Yeah, the most. Well, I mean, I I do like I do
- 1:13:22like the shake up and and you know, you see a couple of riders
- 1:13:26soon to become aging out, you know, like, you know, some
- 1:13:30riders again up in and so it's good to see like some names.
- 1:13:34TJ come out. Oh, Vandemore Wells.
- 1:13:36Bautista, you know, there's a couple of those guys, you know,
- 1:13:40and now a big, big key thing, though, is that Top Rock left
- 1:13:44too. So like it's like now a lot of
- 1:13:47fans that's probably watching the World Super bike because the
- 1:13:50top rocks going to be like, all right, where's Top Rock going?
- 1:13:53So they might lose a lot of fans, the World Super bike
- 1:13:56because of this, but how do you keep it?
- 1:13:58So, you know, just bring a younger crowd some Moto GP races
- 1:14:03over here. So I think it's a good thing and
- 1:14:07I think it is confirmed that Darren Bendis coming to Moto
- 1:14:09Americas. That's true.
- 1:14:10So. But I I I haven't heard of
- 1:14:13Darren Bender's coming but. He might want to try Vandamark.
- 1:14:18Right, right. It's tough.
- 1:14:20Lewis, what are your thoughts on on, you know, those writers and
- 1:14:25is it fear? Like, you know, TJ mentioned
- 1:14:30Bulaga and we all saying Bulaga is going to run away with it
- 1:14:35next year unless some of these other Moto GP riders might stop
- 1:14:38him and stuff like that. We see that he looks like he may
- 1:14:42ride Marquez's bike and one of these rounds coming up and stuff
- 1:14:45like that, you know, is Bulaga getting showed the proper love
- 1:14:50from Ducati? Is it is it is it maybe is he
- 1:14:53being promised that he might be able to get a Moto GP ride?
- 1:14:57Is this just a pat on the back to say, hey, we'll let you ride
- 1:15:00this bike and and you know, as a rider and he was in Moto 2, I'm
- 1:15:03pretty sure he wanted to go to Moto GP before world super bike.
- 1:15:07You know, what are your thoughts overall on on all these young
- 1:15:10riders coming into our world super bike these days and then
- 1:15:13build a good situation with Ducati?
- 1:15:15I mean, the guys going to World Super Bike, I think increases
- 1:15:18the quality of World Super Bike. You know, to see some, some
- 1:15:22popular names from the Moto GP paddock going over to a World
- 1:15:25Super Bike is a benefit to World Super Bike.
- 1:15:27Because like I said, I feel that there's a lack of stars in World
- 1:15:31Super Bike right now. There was two big stars, one of
- 1:15:33them is gone and now we need new stars.
- 1:15:36We need new young stars that can go there and really shake it up
- 1:15:40and bring some new life into that series.
- 1:15:42You know, Alvaro Bautista again on the older side of old, Danilo
- 1:15:47Bertucci on the older, older side of old.
- 1:15:50I mean, these are well known names, but it's kind of time to
- 1:15:53see some new young blood coming up and being competitive.
- 1:15:57And that's one of the things that I'm worried about about
- 1:16:00World Super Bike. One, we've already noted that
- 1:16:02the attendance this year hasn't been that great.
- 1:16:05They have, they've only did 10 rounds, which for a world class
- 1:16:08championship is not enough. I mean, 10 rounds is not enough.
- 1:16:14Moto GP is doing 22 rounds and World Super Bike is doing less
- 1:16:18than half of that. Like that's not acceptable.
- 1:16:21Like World Super Bikes got to figure that out.
- 1:16:22They got to expand. They got to go to more regions.
- 1:16:24Like, they got to come to South America, they got to come to
- 1:16:26Latin America, they have to come to the US.
- 1:16:30They can't just be the European Championship with one race in
- 1:16:34Australia, you know, like that doesn't work.
- 1:16:36You know, they need to go to Asia, they need to go to
- 1:16:38Malaysia, they need to go to all these other markets.
- 1:16:43I just hope that it doesn't. Again, I've worried about this
- 1:16:46for a while now that it doesn't become the Nicola Bulaga show.
- 1:16:49You know, I hope that Ikaleko Ona will actually be able to
- 1:16:53compete against his own teammate on the Ducati because I don't
- 1:16:56see Danilo Petrucci jumping on the BMW and lighting the world
- 1:17:01on fire. He's a great rider, but I don't
- 1:17:03see him lighting the world on fire on that bike.
- 1:17:06Miguel Alarira, if he gets through a season without being
- 1:17:09taken out 18 times, that's a win by itself.
- 1:17:13You know, maybe he let the Moto GP paddock because there was a
- 1:17:16bounty out on him because he just couldn't get away from
- 1:17:19people's front tires. Remember, do you remember those
- 1:17:22old cartoons? You might where they, you know,
- 1:17:25it was like, you know, they were doing future cars and there's
- 1:17:27one car that you know they have a car that the bumper doesn't
- 1:17:30get scratched the. Whole car is destroyed but the
- 1:17:34bumper. Is pristine.
- 1:17:36Can we put something around? So with the guys that are coming
- 1:17:42over from Moto GPI, hope they do something.
- 1:17:45I mean, Jake Dixon and and Chantra going to Honda, we
- 1:17:49talked about it last week. I think Honda's insane for
- 1:17:53wiping the slate completely clean just as their riders are
- 1:17:56actually becoming really competitive.
- 1:17:58You saw Chavi the last? Round yeah.
- 1:18:00Like that was like, I don't know what Honda's thinking.
- 1:18:03Maybe they see something in Jake Dixon and Chantra that I don't
- 1:18:06see. I don't.
- 1:18:11Know all those guys racing Moto 2?
- 1:18:14Maybe me, you know, maybe they're hoping that they bring
- 1:18:17that Moto to energy and start banging bars and pushing people
- 1:18:20wide and doing all that crazy Moto to stuff there.
- 1:18:22But I don't, I still don't think Honda has the bike to be at the
- 1:18:26very front with the Ducati yet, or even with the BMW.
- 1:18:30But I still think they'll be competitive next year with the
- 1:18:32BMW just because BMWs got a full stable.
- 1:18:36And you guys also that don't know the bike, don't know the
- 1:18:39dynamics. And as good as a rider you are,
- 1:18:40you still need to make the bike. Yeah, learn that bike, make
- 1:18:45those adjustments that work with your body, with your riding
- 1:18:48style. So.
- 1:18:51Yeah, I I think that Yamaha, I think next year Yamaha has a
- 1:18:54shot in the world super bike. This is the talent and there and
- 1:18:58some and pretty much everyone is staying on the same bike.
- 1:19:01I think the only person that's going there is Manzi.
- 1:19:04I think everybody else's repeat offenders on the Yamaha and
- 1:19:07Ducati. I mean every, you know the, I
- 1:19:09mean, I don't want to say Kawasaki's not there, but they
- 1:19:12didn't show enough this year that they could be there next
- 1:19:16year. But I think Yamaha cause Yamaha
- 1:19:18look, what's his name? The other writer on the Agatelli
- 1:19:25no AGO. For a while.
- 1:19:28Yamaha, he's doing fairly well I think.
- 1:19:30He's finishing Lakatelli. Lakatelli.
- 1:19:32Lakatelli, yeah, he's finishing 4th and I think 4th or 5th in
- 1:19:35the championship or something like that.
- 1:19:36So I think Honda has a pretty good shot next year and we got.
- 1:19:41Chubby next year? Yep.
- 1:19:43Yeah, they got Javi Vieje and Lacatelli on the scene.
- 1:19:46Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Because Johnny Ray retires.
- 1:19:48Yeah, yeah, yeah. And then because Honda.
- 1:19:50Is smoking crack and just let all their good riders leave.
- 1:19:53Yeah, which is stupid. It it, it is.
- 1:19:59It is crazy. But I think it's overall, it's a
- 1:20:01good look to have these guys. In the sport, hopefully next
- 1:20:04year, you know, it'll be different as far as the, the
- 1:20:08attendance and stuff like that, but as far as the, the
- 1:20:11competitive side of of of world super bike, it's cool to see
- 1:20:15because in theory, you know, you got 12 riders that can can
- 1:20:19probably, you know, fight up front.
- 1:20:21I mean fight for second down, because I think I, I think it's
- 1:20:24going to be runaway Bulliga for next season.
- 1:20:27Anything we miss? Anything you want to add before
- 1:20:29we get out of here, guys? No, I got a question for Reese
- 1:20:32that I didn't think about before.
- 1:20:33Oh gosh, no. No, no.
- 1:20:35How did you get through customs? You know, the token black guys
- 1:20:41got to get through, you know? So we know next year the baggers
- 1:20:46are going to go race in Moto GP. 6 races, one here in the US and
- 1:20:50five in Europe. Do you think it would have been
- 1:20:53better if baggers went to World Super Bike instead of Moto GP?
- 1:20:57Just thinking about what baggers have done here in the US with
- 1:21:01more stock type racing versus prototype racing.
- 1:21:05You know, I understand they're going to see get a bigger
- 1:21:07audience in GP, but I think they would bring audience to World
- 1:21:11Super Bike that doesn't necessarily go to World Super
- 1:21:13Bike versus Moto GP. Guys, they're still going to
- 1:21:16sell out A100150160 thousand seats.
- 1:21:20You know, are they going to sell 168,000 seats just because
- 1:21:24baggers are there? Like I, you know, I don't see
- 1:21:27the numbers that we see here. When you see the 20 or 30%
- 1:21:31higher attendance when baggers come, I don't see that equating
- 1:21:34to Moto GP. If if Moto GP this weekend was
- 1:21:37in Malaysia and they had 190,000 people, I don't think they're
- 1:21:41going to have 227,000 people versus if they were at World
- 1:21:46Super Bike and they had 80,000 people, there is a possibility
- 1:21:49they could have 110,000 people. And I'd like to add, why did
- 1:21:54they get rid of Moto E to put the baggers in?
- 1:21:57Because more gas, more oil. They missed the oil man, they
- 1:22:02missed the oil leaks, they missed the blow motors.
- 1:22:04Because Moto E had believe 6 rounds.
- 1:22:11I mean, I, I honestly think that it would have been, you know,
- 1:22:14going the world super bike because you know, it, it's going
- 1:22:17to bring in attendance, right. You know, it's bringing the
- 1:22:19attendance into Moto America. It it's it brought that
- 1:22:22attendance way up. So I think if it went the world
- 1:22:25super bike, like you said, like Lewis said, you know, with a
- 1:22:28stock bike versus a prototype, you know it, it just seems a lot
- 1:22:33better. I mean, you can't really boost
- 1:22:35up Moto GP, but the only thing I can see them doing is because
- 1:22:39you're going to get more eyes on it, you know, more developers on
- 1:22:43it where they can actually kind of branch off and maybe put an
- 1:22:48into, you know, world super bike or do something else or more
- 1:22:51teams of that of that kind or that caliber can come into play
- 1:22:56and, and want to actually try it because it is something that is,
- 1:23:00is, is, you know, working. Yeah, it's a hell of a lot of
- 1:23:04money. I mean, it's like, I think it
- 1:23:05was like $1.5 million just to build one of them damn things.
- 1:23:08That's gonna yeah, you know, it, it, it, it's pretty crazy bags.
- 1:23:15Fuck. Say again.
- 1:23:18I'd say flock. That's a.
- 1:23:20That's a that's just empty bags. I'm kidding, but you know, it's
- 1:23:24just like, damn and. And is, is, is that a situation
- 1:23:28where the fans are requesting it Harley signing the big check?
- 1:23:34Because I mean it, it's it's pretty impressive.
- 1:23:37I mean to see we already said it's pretty impressive to what
- 1:23:40we've seen happen in Motor America with the turn out it
- 1:23:44it's been and to leapfrog to Moto GP and not World Super Bike
- 1:23:48or some of these other and maybe or maybe we may see it down the
- 1:23:51road in the future. Never know, you might.
- 1:23:55Well, the test was really last year's Moto GP to this year's
- 1:23:58Moto GP and the test was in the paddock here at CODA.
- 1:24:02You know, they saw how many attendees they had last or in
- 1:24:062024 when they had the baggers versus 2025 when they didn't
- 1:24:10have the baggers. And that was a test that was a
- 1:24:12litmus test. Does this bring fans?
- 1:24:152024 they had Harley-Davidson there.
- 1:24:17Harley-Davidson invested heavily.
- 1:24:19We had a huge attendance at CODA this year.
- 1:24:22They didn't have the baggers. Harley didn't attend.
- 1:24:24And you saw that the I mean, you weren't there both years, but I
- 1:24:27was and the attendance was significantly down from the year
- 1:24:31before when the baggers were there.
- 1:24:32So that was kind of the litmus test for Moto GP to see the
- 1:24:36amount of people that kind of rally around this, you know,
- 1:24:39this what looks like a sideshow, but it is a a legitimate form of
- 1:24:43racing. Like these guys are legitimate
- 1:24:45races. These bikes are crazy fast.
- 1:24:47And I think in Europe when they see £800 bagger going 1/2 a
- 1:24:53second slower than a Moto 2 bike it might be a little bit eye
- 1:24:56opening to some of these guys. Oh yeah, I'd be, that'd be
- 1:24:59interesting to see. I don't know if we've ever
- 1:25:01compared on the show the times on Moto 2.
- 1:25:04I know we talked about super sport in America and stuff like
- 1:25:08that. I mean, granted, I guess Koda
- 1:25:10would be the only track that we could kind of use as a, as a, as
- 1:25:12a good barometer since we're not racing over in any of the tracks
- 1:25:16in in the rest of the world and stuff like that.
- 1:25:20I lost my train of thought with that guys.
- 1:25:22Anything you want to add and and we'll we'll.
- 1:25:25Teach that. I had something good.
- 1:25:30I was just saying the the the bag is keeping up with the Super
- 1:25:33sports. They had Carol I'm in doing a
- 1:25:36time with I forget someone on a super sport and they were I
- 1:25:40think he did faster time than them.
- 1:25:42And it's just crazy what the bag is can do.
- 1:25:45And I mean, people don't know that a car, they can do that.
- 1:25:49Right, but I'll I'll say this, the what the baggers bring to
- 1:25:53the sport and I seen it on Sunday at Jersey's round.
- 1:25:56That's when we were, you know, packing.
- 1:25:59They're actually like how racing was back in the day like crazy
- 1:26:06while like they were in the paddock, literally, you know,
- 1:26:08they won and they're in the paddock late at night doing
- 1:26:11burnout, blowing tires, drinking a beer with one hand and hold.
- 1:26:15I'm like these these nuts and they're just they're living it
- 1:26:18up. But that's what racing is.
- 1:26:21It's about fun. It's about the whole team having
- 1:26:24fun. You celebrate as a team, but it
- 1:26:27will Harley, will Harley invested in their racing.
- 1:26:30It's just like it's insane amount of money.
- 1:26:33It's insane. Like we just got money to throw
- 1:26:35at this. They're doing burnouts.
- 1:26:37You guys are measuring the leftover oil?
- 1:26:40Pretty much leftover oil, like what can we do for next year?
- 1:26:46Like this is they're out there having fun.
- 1:26:49So it is this is something. They're bringing fun back to the
- 1:26:53paddock. So that's what it is.
- 1:26:55A real quick search at Koda baggers are about 5 seconds a
- 1:26:59lap slower than Moto 2 bikes and one second a lap faster than
- 1:27:02Moto 3 bikes. So they're right in that sweet
- 1:27:07spot between a single cylinder and a four-cylinder A3 cylinder.
- 1:27:12So they're right there where A2 cylinder should be.
- 1:27:15And listen, with that said, give me a skinny girl every day, all
- 1:27:18day, yeah. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:27:20I'd rather. I'd rather crash in a motor 3
- 1:27:22bike then I'm a bagger. Is it a bagger?
- 1:27:25Boy? Jesus Christ, that's going to
- 1:27:27hurt. I, I will say that the things I
- 1:27:29like to see about see on the baggers is when they spin up the
- 1:27:33rear and go sideways because they're the only they, they seem
- 1:27:36to like they can just straighten out and keep going.
- 1:27:38Other guys will, will high side and flip off the bike.
- 1:27:42These guys go sideways and and that thing will straighten out.
- 1:27:45And here's another thing to take into account.
- 1:27:47The baggers were racing at Coda on Dunlops in the GP series.
- 1:27:53From my understanding, they're supposed to be on Pirelli's so.
- 1:27:58Is that good? Is that?
- 1:27:59Good for two seconds, Reese. I plead the 5th.
- 1:28:04I'm out. About to be dragging the elbows
- 1:28:08on the baggers on Pirelli tires. I.
- 1:28:13Think Dunlop. Time is time is ticking it it.
- 1:28:17It it sounds like it. And if more people get their say
- 1:28:20or get overseas to get on on these Pirellis that seem to get
- 1:28:23all the the the spider man, the spider man Pirellis, you know,
- 1:28:28it's going to be a beautiful thing.
- 1:28:30It's great. And we'll talk about this and
- 1:28:32wrap up because we're kind of going over to a little bit.
- 1:28:35But yeah, I'll leave that for another time.
- 1:28:37The tire, the tire war and and how much of a difference would
- 1:28:41make in the sport if we could all be on the same playing
- 1:28:44field. My name is Rex 45.
- 1:28:46It's the Be Forever Cool podcast.
- 1:28:47I want to thank TJ from 2 Wheels and Coffee Reese from Attack
- 1:28:51Yamaha. He got back into the country
- 1:28:53safely. We didn't have to, you know, use
- 1:28:56the old ways to get him back into the country and.
- 1:28:58Stuff like that. But to have him back here on on
- 1:29:01on the US soil, the real Lewis or Otega, the numbers guy, not
- 1:29:05too much numbers. We got 2 races left Lewis.
- 1:29:07So we'll we'll, we'll we'll definitely add up how things
- 1:29:11went at the last round. Like we already know who's the
- 1:29:13crown champion. I'll say this, though, it is
- 1:29:15weird that, you know, with Marquez, right?
- 1:29:18Because it feels like the last two years, these champions, you
- 1:29:21know, Martine got hurt this year.
- 1:29:24So he had no world tour. And then a week later Mark is
- 1:29:28out. So it's like he win the
- 1:29:29championship, but like, there's no celebration really.
- 1:29:31Nah. I mean, he'll he'll be walking
- 1:29:34around, he said in Spain, but not not in his Leathers.
- 1:29:38So it just sucks. It sucks to not be able to do
- 1:29:40that like end of season championship kind of ride.
- 1:29:45But I mean, hopefully he'll have a few more all.
- 1:29:47Right there you go. And and we will talk about him
- 1:29:50for him. So that way he's he's not
- 1:29:52missing much. My name is Rex 45.
- 1:29:54Peace. Peace, peace, peace.
