- 0:00Speaker 1: Who set that explosion off? That as are like walking by?
- 0:03Speaker 1: Oh my god, that was a rough part of the
- 0:07Speaker 1: movie to want would you are you like, are you
- 0:09Speaker 1: idiots going down in this basement of this building because
- 0:12Speaker 1: you heard an explosion and a shadow and all called
- 0:16Speaker 1: them police? Hey, everyone, welcome to Girls Gone Hallmark, a
- 0:35Speaker 1: Hallmark review podcast. I'm Megan and I'm a lifelong Hallmark
- 0:39Speaker 1: movie fan. I'm Wendy, and I gotta say shout out
- 0:42Speaker 1: to the Girls Gone Hallmark Facebook group because they really
- 0:45Speaker 1: helped me get up to speed with the Hannah Swinson mysteries.
- 0:48Speaker 1: All right, speaking of which, today we are discussing Carrot
- 0:53Speaker 1: Cake Murder, which originally aired on the Hallmark Channel on Friday,
- 0:58Speaker 1: May nineteenth. If you want to connect with us outside
- 1:01Speaker 1: of the podcast, we'd love for you to follow us
- 1:02Speaker 1: on Instagram. We are Girls Gone Hallmark and Megan and Wendy,
- 1:07Speaker 1: like I mentioned earlier, jump into our Facebook group search
- 1:10Speaker 1: Girls Gone Hallmark. I'll also leave a link in our
- 1:14Speaker 1: show notes if you want to jump on in. I
- 1:17Speaker 1: have a couple quick Hallmark news and note bits of information.
- 1:22Speaker 1: Tell me first, it has been revealed that we know
- 1:27Speaker 1: that this movie ended on a cliffhanger, but never fear.
- 1:30Speaker 1: The next movie in the series has already been committed to.
- 1:33Speaker 1: It may have already been shot. I kind of think
- 1:35Speaker 1: they filmed them back to back for release later this year.
- 1:39Speaker 1: It is Zest for Death, the next Hannah Swinson Mystery.
- 1:43Speaker 1: I like that title. I do too, so anyone who
- 1:48Speaker 1: was worried that we would have a mystery one oh
- 1:50Speaker 1: one situation on your hands for itt not. What I've
- 1:54Speaker 1: understood is that the seria used to be called Murder
- 1:58Speaker 1: She Bakes right, yes, and then they re branded it
- 2:01Speaker 1: because of something with like executives who've left the channel.
- 2:07Speaker 1: I don't fully understand the details, and nor do I
- 2:10Speaker 1: really care. However, she had also said in an interview,
- 2:13Speaker 1: is that there's so many books because the series is
- 2:16Speaker 1: oh yeah, books, and they felt that going in the
- 2:19Speaker 1: direction of like Carrot Cake Murder, a Hanna Swinson mystery, like,
- 2:24Speaker 1: they can make so many more. So I would be
- 2:26Speaker 1: surprised if they're gonna like wrap up Mike and Hannah, Yeah,
- 2:31Speaker 1: let us movie. Let us know what you know. Somebody
- 2:34Speaker 1: knows more than us. Email us Megan and Wendy at
- 2:36Speaker 1: gmail dot com or hop into our Facebook group speaking
- 2:38Speaker 1: of Love. Jake Foy one of the stars of Ride.
- 2:42Speaker 1: He plays Tough. He got engaged recently to his longtime
- 2:45Speaker 1: boyfriend Nicholas Latroverse and if you have not seen the
- 2:49Speaker 1: Instagram photos of the engagement, they're real beautiful, really like
- 2:53Speaker 1: a little weepy. Oh yeah. They got engaged in BAMFF,
- 2:56Speaker 1: which is oh, absolutely beautiful. I don't want to go there,
- 2:59Speaker 1: me too. To go this summer. Everything's sold out. Yeah,
- 3:02Speaker 1: you have to schedule wait in advance there. Yeah. It's fancy.
- 3:05Speaker 1: It's fancy and nice and lots of some things to do. Hey,
- 3:08Speaker 1: I have a question for you. I know Showbaz Daily
- 3:11Speaker 1: does not have the numbers out yet at the time
- 3:14Speaker 1: of recording. I am very curious to know how this
- 3:18Speaker 1: movie did on Friday Night, because one I forgot it
- 3:20Speaker 1: was on Friday night. Yes, thanks to the Facebook group
- 3:23Speaker 1: for talking about it, because I completely forgot Friday Night
- 3:26Speaker 1: came and went and I was like, oh, dang it. Anyway,
- 3:29Speaker 1: the second thing was that The Jane Mysteries did poorly
- 3:33Speaker 1: terribly right, So I'm curious to find out how this
- 3:37Speaker 1: one fared. Yes, I checked multiple times for the same reason.
- 3:41Speaker 1: It's not out as of the recording. As you said
- 3:44Speaker 1: from a reviewer standpoint, I like that it's out on
- 3:47Speaker 1: Friday and then it's available to me all weekends to
- 3:50Speaker 1: go back in and rewatch. Yeah, but I can understand
- 3:52Speaker 1: that maybe that would not be great for viewership. It'll
- 3:55Speaker 1: be interesting to see because they are doing the same
- 3:58Speaker 1: thing for their June Yeah. But what I'm really curious
- 4:02Speaker 1: about so last week's Jody Sweeten movie, that was a
- 4:06Speaker 1: new mystery franchise, right if it becomes a franchise, Hannah
- 4:10Speaker 1: Swinson is an established franchise. The next two are kind
- 4:16Speaker 1: of established franchises, right. So We've got the Aurora ty
- 4:19Speaker 1: Guarden prequel, different lead actress, but based on an existing ip.
- 4:24Speaker 1: And then we have The Dancing Detective, a new mystery series,
- 4:29Speaker 1: but with a couple that's well known and loved. Right,
- 4:32Speaker 1: So will all of that project them to better ratings perhaps?
- 4:36Speaker 1: Or will Hallmark pull on an audible and change their
- 4:40Speaker 1: minds because they have published schedules before and then just
- 4:43Speaker 1: gone in and moved things around. Things change. Yeah, I'm
- 4:47Speaker 1: curious to see how it plays out. Same you ready
- 4:51Speaker 1: for a synopsis? I am Hannah Swinson, Everyone's favorite crime
- 4:56Speaker 1: solving Baker is back on the case when the discovery
- 4:59Speaker 1: of a skeleton and an old building sparks a murder
- 5:02Speaker 1: investigation starring Alison Sweeney, Cameron Matheson, Gabriel Hogan, and Barbara Nevin.
- 5:11Speaker 1: This movie was written by Melissa Sammons. She has thirteen
- 5:14Speaker 1: previous writing credits, including A Magical Christmas Village starring one
- 5:18Speaker 1: Allie Sweeney, Murder She Breaked, Just Desserts, and the eerie
- 5:21Speaker 1: Sistable Blueberry Farm. More impressively, she has written over one
- 5:25Speaker 1: hundred and fifteen episodes of the soap opera Days of
- 5:27Speaker 1: Our Lives, one hundred and forty four episodes of One
- 5:30Speaker 1: Life to Live, as well as More for Young and
- 5:32Speaker 1: the Restless, As the World Turns and Guiding Lights. Kind
- 5:36Speaker 1: of bananas, right, She has a lot of writing turn
- 5:39Speaker 1: out a script and all of these movies. While those
- 5:43Speaker 1: three you named are Ali Sweeney movies, Yeah, maybe they
- 5:46Speaker 1: just like working together. I always find that so interesting.
- 5:50Speaker 1: I guess when you're Ali Sweeney and you have some
- 5:53Speaker 1: clout at Homemark, you can be lying, yeah, I'm coming
- 5:56Speaker 1: back for a Hannah Swinson, but I'm want that writer,
- 5:59Speaker 1: and I'm want Vista director Pat Williams has forty directing credits,
- 6:03Speaker 1: including another hannahs Winston movie called Sweet Revenge that's from
- 6:08Speaker 1: twenty twenty one. Have you ever you have not gone
- 6:11Speaker 1: back and watched any of the Murder She Baked slash
- 6:14Speaker 1: Hannahs ones none. I watched the very first one and
- 6:18Speaker 1: I liked it a lot. The very first in the
- 6:21Speaker 1: series in Murder She Baked, Okay, and I liked it.
- 6:24Speaker 1: It set the tone really nicely for me. We'll talk
- 6:27Speaker 1: more about it, but it might be if you're in
- 6:30Speaker 1: a hallmarky mood, something to consider. Well. I gotta tell you,
- 6:33Speaker 1: it's a little confusing because they have like the Murder
- 6:36Speaker 1: She Baked, and then they had Sweet Revenge, which I
- 6:42Speaker 1: think is along this line, the new name under the
- 6:47Speaker 1: new names. So I didn't know that those two work together.
- 6:51Speaker 1: I see anyway as someone who doesn't know, like I
- 6:55Speaker 1: think you need to know, like what the start of
- 6:58Speaker 1: it is. Sure watch them in order. Yeah, yeah, because
- 7:00Speaker 1: in addition to the murders, you've got the personal storyline
- 7:04Speaker 1: going on back and forth, oh, between Mike and Sure,
- 7:07Speaker 1: Hannah and yeah Norman, Yeah, Triangle, Okay, we'll get to that.
- 7:12Speaker 1: Alison Sweeney plays Hannah. We saw her last as Tracy
- 7:17Speaker 1: in the Wedding Veil trilogy earlier this year. She also
- 7:19Speaker 1: stars in Love on the Air, a movie that we
- 7:22Speaker 1: will be reviewing as part of our twenty twenty three
- 7:25Speaker 1: summer podcast series starting next week. Yeah, starting May thirty.
- 7:30Speaker 1: That's correct, question Mark, that's right? Right? Oh? Yes, with
- 7:33Speaker 1: Mystery one oh one. So all the Palaha fans need
- 7:36Speaker 1: to give it a listen. Get ready to Sluthor's Yes.
- 7:39Speaker 1: Cameron Matheson plays Mike. Matheson has been absent from the
- 7:43Speaker 1: Hallmark Channel for a bit as he's been filming movies
- 7:46Speaker 1: for GAFF the last two years. Welcome back, Cameron. That's
- 7:49Speaker 1: all I'm gonna say about that. Boarbur Niven returns as
- 7:52Speaker 1: Dolores Swinson. She has an impressive one hundred three acting credits,
- 7:56Speaker 1: including last year's Christmas at the Golden Dragon and fifty
- 8:00Speaker 1: five episodes of chest Peak Shores. I really enjoy Barbara
- 8:04Speaker 1: and Ivan me too. I like her a lot. I
- 8:07Speaker 1: don't know what it is. Oh, I really love her
- 8:09Speaker 1: on screen. Yeah, me too. Gabriel Hogan plays Norman. He's
- 8:13Speaker 1: also starred in the Hannah Swinson movie Sweet of Revenge
- 8:17Speaker 1: as well as ninety four episodes of Heartland as Peter Morris.
- 8:21Speaker 1: I'm not familiar with Heartland or Gabriel Hogan, no me either,
- 8:25Speaker 1: but I have good things to say. Oh nice. Yeah.
- 8:28Speaker 1: This movie is based, as mentioned earlier, on the book
- 8:30Speaker 1: series by author Joanne Fluke. This movie was filmed in
- 8:35Speaker 1: and around Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, mid February through March
- 8:44Speaker 1: of this year. Of this year, So I would I
- 8:47Speaker 1: bet you're right. I bet they did film these back
- 8:50Speaker 1: to back. Yeah, they've got the cast already. Yeah, they
- 8:52Speaker 1: got that bakery set yeah, up and ready to go.
- 8:55Speaker 1: I got notes about that too. Well. Speaking of which,
- 8:58Speaker 1: what's your first impression? Oh, my first impression is I
- 9:01Speaker 1: have mixed feelings about Cameron Matheson. Oh my first impression is, damn,
- 9:06Speaker 1: I want an M and M cookie. You know that
- 9:08Speaker 1: is so funny that you mentioned that I find those
- 9:11Speaker 1: cookies to be too sweet. Oh, and I when they
- 9:15Speaker 1: were eating them on screen, I was like, those are
- 9:16Speaker 1: too sweet. So it's so funny that I noticed, and
- 9:19Speaker 1: I clocked it twice once when she's setting up the
- 9:21Speaker 1: bakery tray and she puts a whole tray of them
- 9:23Speaker 1: in there and then again they eat one. I love
- 9:26Speaker 1: an eminem cookie. What about a deconstructed rocky road bar? Sure,
- 9:31Speaker 1: I'm into all of that. Everything those brownies she put
- 9:35Speaker 1: out looked delicious, everything, all of it. Please? Did you
- 9:39Speaker 1: think it was kind of cute that everywhere she would
- 9:40Speaker 1: go she would have like a box of I love that,
- 9:44Speaker 1: So tell me what you liked a lot? Actually, so,
- 9:48Speaker 1: I think Alie Sweeney might be my favorite pseudo detective
- 9:51Speaker 1: that we've met oh this year, yes, okay, in these
- 9:55Speaker 1: mystery series. And I'm thinking of listeners who are new
- 10:00Speaker 1: to the podcast may not know that Wendy and I
- 10:02Speaker 1: are fairly new to the mysteries movies. So I'm thinking
- 10:06Speaker 1: of Goldie from the Caterer movies Curious Cater And I'm
- 10:11Speaker 1: thinking of Jill Wagner's characters from Mystery one on one,
- 10:15Speaker 1: and I think I would like if I were ranking them,
- 10:18Speaker 1: I would go Goldie, then Jill Wagner, and then Alison Sweeney.
- 10:22Speaker 1: And her name is Hannah in this movie. I like
- 10:25Speaker 1: her as the detective. Well, I'm interested to see, maybe
- 10:29Speaker 1: towards the end of the year, how that ranking works out,
- 10:32Speaker 1: because we have so many to come. I have so many. Yeah,
- 10:36Speaker 1: I bet Lazy plays a great detective. Yes, and I'm
- 10:39Speaker 1: really interested in the Aurora Teagarden prequel girl. Yes, we'll
- 10:44Speaker 1: have to come back to this discussion. Yes, for sure.
- 10:46Speaker 1: What do you think of Ali Sweeney as our pseudo detective? Well, okay,
- 10:50Speaker 1: I thought, and it leads into this. I feel like
- 10:54Speaker 1: Alison Sweeney and Cameron Matheson's experience on soaps them well
- 11:01Speaker 1: in these roles because they were serious, Yeah, you know,
- 11:05Speaker 1: mellow dramatic. Yeah, yeah, so I thought it. I do
- 11:10Speaker 1: like her in this role. I like this detective because
- 11:15Speaker 1: while I enjoy Goldie, I think sometimes she acts like
- 11:18Speaker 1: an idiot, which might be part of her charm. It
- 11:20Speaker 1: might be intentional, Right, they're different. I like both. I
- 11:24Speaker 1: think I enjoy watching because you know, I don't like Hyjinks.
- 11:27Speaker 1: I think I enjoy watching Ali as Hannah because there's
- 11:32Speaker 1: no Hyjiinks involved. She's like truly trying to figure out
- 11:35Speaker 1: the mystery. Yes, and to your point, I wanted to
- 11:37Speaker 1: point out in that scene where she's on the dock
- 11:39Speaker 1: and they do that takedown with the keys. Got it
- 11:42Speaker 1: in my notes here? Yes, am I stealing your thundernote?
- 11:45Speaker 1: As that scene was setting up. I was mentally preparing
- 11:48Speaker 1: myself for the curious caterer scene where Goldie's like, look O,
- 11:54Speaker 1: something happens. Yeahah and Bozo Tom turns around. Yeah the detective.
- 11:59Speaker 1: But she did not love that. I mean that looked
- 12:02Speaker 1: like a real serious takedown. I have in my notes
- 12:05Speaker 1: here that I liked the physicality in this movie, like
- 12:08Speaker 1: that kind of acting when she they had this tussle
- 12:12Speaker 1: on the pier and you believe it, yes, and I
- 12:14Speaker 1: believed it. And at one point in this movie, I'm
- 12:17Speaker 1: not a big fan of guns, but when the guy
- 12:19Speaker 1: has the gun on them, I was like, what am
- 12:22Speaker 1: I watching here? Like I was intense. I did think
- 12:25Speaker 1: this was one of the more intense mysteries that we've
- 12:28Speaker 1: watched without veering into the silly. Yes, no silly for me.
- 12:33Speaker 1: Put that on a shirt. Oh, I really want to
- 12:36Speaker 1: shout out the other cast members. Is that what it is? That?
- 12:40Speaker 1: The word I'm looking for it is like, I love
- 12:42Speaker 1: Barbara Nevan. I know we already said that she was
- 12:45Speaker 1: adorably kooky and funny in this movie. Loved her. Gabriel
- 12:49Speaker 1: Hogan as Norman was great, thought he was handsome, and
- 12:54Speaker 1: fellow podcaster Mike in our Facebook group, he mentioned that
- 13:00Speaker 1: they could play brothers. Almost not Mike and Norman. Do
- 13:03Speaker 1: you know what I'm talking about here? We're talking about
- 13:05Speaker 1: Cameron and Cameron and Gabriel and Gabriel. Okay, it looks
- 13:09Speaker 1: so like that. I agree they can play brothers. I agree.
- 13:12Speaker 1: Took a minute to get there. Also, Tess Atkins, who
- 13:16Speaker 1: plays sister Michelle, I thought was great as well. Now
- 13:19Speaker 1: do you know the backstory to that? Know that she
- 13:21Speaker 1: had a different sister at Murder she Baked get Out,
- 13:25Speaker 1: And not only did they they didn't just recast her.
- 13:28Speaker 1: It's like a different character. Oh my god. Some people
- 13:31Speaker 1: feel very strongly about that. We do not have the attachment.
- 13:35Speaker 1: But some people are not a fan of the Hannah
- 13:37Speaker 1: Swinson mysteries in the way they were the Murder She
- 13:41Speaker 1: Baked series. Okay, well, I'm hoping that I got the
- 13:44Speaker 1: actress right, because on IMDb as of this morning, sister
- 13:49Speaker 1: Michelle is not listed in this movie. So I went
- 13:52Speaker 1: back to another movie, and I don't know if I
- 13:54Speaker 1: pulled Murder She Bakes or tell me the actress's name
- 13:58Speaker 1: Tess Atkins. Test Atkins is the correct, okayister the other
- 14:02Speaker 1: sister is blonde. Okay, I wonder why they changed the
- 14:06Speaker 1: actor all together. I don't know if you know email
- 14:09Speaker 1: us or hop into the Facebook group, but there were
- 14:12Speaker 1: some changes made in the changeover of the series. I'm
- 14:17Speaker 1: going to say something that I have a question. I
- 14:18Speaker 1: am a big fan of the love triangle in this movie.
- 14:21Speaker 1: Question for you, are you team Mike or team Norman?
- 14:25Speaker 1: I don't know enough yet. Yeah, Unfortunately I don't know enough.
- 14:29Speaker 1: I leaned into the Facebook group because I was like,
- 14:31Speaker 1: what's the backstory here? Why does Dolores the mom not
- 14:35Speaker 1: like Mike, and why is she pushing so hard for
- 14:38Speaker 1: Hannah to be with Norman? Like I needed to know.
- 14:40Speaker 1: I really feel like I need to go back and
- 14:42Speaker 1: watch all the movies to fully understand this triangle. Thank
- 14:45Speaker 1: you might, but I'm into it. I enjoyed the love triangle.
- 14:48Speaker 1: I think it's something that we don't get a lot,
- 14:50Speaker 1: and we don't get it in this form. When we
- 14:53Speaker 1: get a love triangle, we get it in like bad
- 14:55Speaker 1: boyfriend or boyfriend who's not right for them or is
- 14:58Speaker 1: going to go away and the new person who is
- 15:01Speaker 1: right for them. That's not what's happening here, right, We've
- 15:04Speaker 1: got two people who are both potentially good matches, both
- 15:08Speaker 1: good dudes, both have their value right where she Yeah, yeah,
- 15:14Speaker 1: what about you? Who do you like her with? I
- 15:17Speaker 1: am torn although I am leaning a little bit on Norman.
- 15:20Speaker 1: I just feel like their friendship has a lot of
- 15:22Speaker 1: warmth and a lot of comfort and I like that. Now.
- 15:27Speaker 1: Remind me, because I've watched a lot this weekend. Was
- 15:30Speaker 1: Norman with somebody in this movie? Yes, a woman named Diana.
- 15:35Speaker 1: And at one point, Hannah says, Oh, is that your Diana?
- 15:38Speaker 1: And he says, well, not my Diana yet, So I
- 15:42Speaker 1: don't know that it's a serious relationship, but he is coupled.
- 15:45Speaker 1: And I'm wondering if Diana is new to this. I
- 15:48Speaker 1: think so. It seemed like she was being introduced. There
- 15:51Speaker 1: were some really funny lines in this movie. Mm hmm.
- 15:55Speaker 1: For example, Dolores is talking about hammer pants at one time, Yes,
- 15:59Speaker 1: and I thought, does everybody know what hammer pants are? Like?
- 16:03Speaker 1: They don't say mc hammer right, they say hammer pants
- 16:08Speaker 1: Like I was a child of the nineties. Of course
- 16:10Speaker 1: I know what hammer pants are. Does that fly over
- 16:12Speaker 1: people's head? I wonder? I hope not. I loved that
- 16:15Speaker 1: such a vivid reference to me totally. And this is
- 16:20Speaker 1: probably like a niche comment between you and I, but
- 16:24Speaker 1: she's Dolores is drinking wine and talking to her two
- 16:27Speaker 1: daughters are brought about hammer pants and she says something like,
- 16:31Speaker 1: we all wore the Honey mission and I can't say
- 16:34Speaker 1: it how I want to say it. But you know
- 16:36Speaker 1: what I'm talking about, right, I know who you're talking about, Meg,
- 16:39Speaker 1: and I love Jeff Louis Live and they say Honey
- 16:42Speaker 1: a lot on that show. Yeah, Megan on that show,
- 16:46Speaker 1: say it for me, Megan, Honey. Yes, it just was
- 16:49Speaker 1: so funny, and that she takes a swig of her wine.
- 16:51Speaker 1: I just loved it all inclusive. Honey. Yes, it's exactly
- 16:55Speaker 1: great reference being able to do it. I cannot second.
- 17:00Speaker 1: Another great line, great line. The sheriff is criticizing Hannah
- 17:05Speaker 1: to Mike and he says, is she running around like
- 17:08Speaker 1: some podcast or interview with people? And I just was like,
- 17:11Speaker 1: how perfect is this writing? Because of course there's a
- 17:14Speaker 1: podcast for every mystery out there, right, and he just
- 17:17Speaker 1: thinks like she's playing, especially these cold case mysteries. It
- 17:21Speaker 1: was great, Yeah, so great. So hey, potentially controversial take here. Oh,
- 17:27Speaker 1: I like the cliffhanger Oh, so did I leave me
- 17:30Speaker 1: wanting more? Is actually because I know there's another movie coming,
- 17:33Speaker 1: so it's not going to remain unresolved. I like that.
- 17:37Speaker 1: It makes me want to come back me too, definitely.
- 17:40Speaker 1: I have two more things that I liked. Okay, and
- 17:42Speaker 1: this was a shout to the director. When Hannah realizes
- 17:45Speaker 1: that Mike had already told the sheriff that she was
- 17:49Speaker 1: working on it, and she's realizing what's happening. It's done
- 17:52Speaker 1: in slow motions. It was great right as a viewer,
- 17:57Speaker 1: it was so nicely done. Thought, yeah, like you're processing
- 18:01Speaker 1: it through her eye. Yeah, And I'm like, we just don't
- 18:04Speaker 1: get that kind of styling through a lot of these movies.
- 18:07Speaker 1: I just thought it was so good, nice choice. And finally,
- 18:10Speaker 1: I loved the relationship between Hannah, Dolores and sister Michelle. Yeah.
- 18:15Speaker 1: I just was like, that's like such a nice when
- 18:18Speaker 1: you just can hang out and they just talk about
- 18:21Speaker 1: stuff and they rib each other and just was a
- 18:24Speaker 1: nice relationship. I loved watching it, I agree, and not
- 18:28Speaker 1: overly saccerin and not overly contentious. What did you wish for? Okay? So,
- 18:35Speaker 1: like I said, I desperately needed backstory on this movie.
- 18:39Speaker 1: The movie for me, doesn't work as a standalone movie.
- 18:42Speaker 1: There's like way too much tangled up with other stories. Sure, so,
- 18:46Speaker 1: like I didn't understand the love triangle and who Norman was,
- 18:51Speaker 1: And that's on me as a viewer. Obviously I need
- 18:54Speaker 1: to go back and like understand the whole thing. But
- 18:57Speaker 1: I feel like sometimes it would benefit the view if
- 19:00Speaker 1: you were if they worked more as a standalone because
- 19:03Speaker 1: then anybody could jump in and watch it. It doesn't
- 19:05Speaker 1: have to be like, oh no, I have to go
- 19:06Speaker 1: back and watch six other movies. Yeah, And you know
- 19:10Speaker 1: what this movie didn't do at least it didn't do
- 19:13Speaker 1: it in a way that I noticed, is they weren't
- 19:16Speaker 1: constantly filling you in on past events via exposition, right,
- 19:20Speaker 1: which I think we got a lot in the Curious
- 19:22Speaker 1: Caterer movies. And maybe because we're so deep into the series,
- 19:26Speaker 1: it would almost behoove them to do like a previously
- 19:29Speaker 1: on right at the beginning, like when did Hannah and
- 19:31Speaker 1: Might get engaged? Right, I don't know, Yes, has it
- 19:35Speaker 1: been a long time? And they do reference fact that
- 19:37Speaker 1: it's been a long time, right, he's not planning a wedding,
- 19:39Speaker 1: But that's not context. The right, yeah, exactly. This might
- 19:43Speaker 1: be a me thing as well. I was very tired
- 19:47Speaker 1: when watching this movie. Did you fall asleep? No? But
- 19:51Speaker 1: was the mystery hard to understand? Or was I in
- 19:53Speaker 1: rough week delirium? I think you were in rough week delirium?
- 19:57Speaker 1: But I agree I did get a little confused at
- 20:00Speaker 1: some point. Mmmm. A lot of talking about people and
- 20:04Speaker 1: names who we didn't see or didn't know well enough
- 20:07Speaker 1: to keep track of. Right, and me, I couldn't understand
- 20:10Speaker 1: the motive, Like I still at the end, like, what
- 20:13Speaker 1: was the motive of the killer? Well, okay, here's what
- 20:16Speaker 1: I think. What we're led to believe is that it
- 20:18Speaker 1: was like a fight gone wrong and he hides the
- 20:20Speaker 1: body because he's a kid and doesn't know how to handle it,
- 20:22Speaker 1: and the father takes the fall. It seemed to me
- 20:25Speaker 1: that Hannah, and at least Hannah was maybe questioning what
- 20:29Speaker 1: had happened, because she was even saying like, I don't
- 20:31Speaker 1: really understand why he would do that. No, maybe I'm
- 20:35Speaker 1: reading more into that. It just felt like there was
- 20:38Speaker 1: there was so much build up to this relatively little like, oh,
- 20:42Speaker 1: it was a fight gone wrong that I hid the body? Right?
- 20:45Speaker 1: Who set that explosion? Off that as are like walking by.
- 20:49Speaker 1: Oh my god, that was a rough part of the
- 20:52Speaker 1: movie to want would you are you? Like, are you
- 20:54Speaker 1: idiots going down in this basement of this building because
- 20:57Speaker 1: you heard an explosion and a shadow and all? Why
- 21:01Speaker 1: I call them police? Seriously? My notes are like, don't
- 21:04Speaker 1: go down the stairs, put down the tubs. When you
- 21:07Speaker 1: explore the creepy building, they're still caring. Then they go
- 21:09Speaker 1: down the stairs. Then they see someone run What are
- 21:12Speaker 1: you doing? It smells like gunpowder and dark cup powder? Okay, well,
- 21:19Speaker 1: who set off that explosion or why did that explosion happen?
- 21:22Speaker 1: I don't see this clarity. I have the clarity on
- 21:26Speaker 1: this mystery. And my streak is broken because for the
- 21:31Speaker 1: past two mysteries we watched, I have guessed, oh the murderer.
- 21:35Speaker 1: This time I had no idea again, mildly delirious. Yes, fair,
- 21:40Speaker 1: I kind of suspected it was going to be the sun,
- 21:43Speaker 1: but again I didn't understand like the motive, and they
- 21:46Speaker 1: were trying to figure it out. It just took a lot,
- 21:50Speaker 1: and I felt like the whole Eugene storyline. Yeah, I
- 21:53Speaker 1: was like, wait, is this just distraction? Because he didn't
- 21:56Speaker 1: really play into the final But then this is why
- 22:00Speaker 1: his story ultimately makes sense. That was another case and
- 22:04Speaker 1: I wonder if that was trying to point you to
- 22:06Speaker 1: because that was a case of him covering for his brother.
- 22:09Speaker 1: Right now you've got the father covering for the son,
- 22:12Speaker 1: which is kind of a poetic parallel. Okay, what else
- 22:15Speaker 1: do you wish for? I didn't understand why Hannah ended
- 22:18Speaker 1: her engagement with Mike. I had to go into the
- 22:21Speaker 1: Facebook group again and I asked, like, what's the deal here?
- 22:24Speaker 1: Did like Mike lie to her? Has he historically lied
- 22:28Speaker 1: to her? Which is that why she was upset? And
- 22:31Speaker 1: the Facebook group said that she was overreacting that they
- 22:37Speaker 1: don't remember any sort of like storyline where Mike has
- 22:41Speaker 1: lied to her previously. But in the movie, it was
- 22:44Speaker 1: because she felt kind of unsupported, right like he told
- 22:47Speaker 1: her he was gonna wait to go to the sheriff.
- 22:49Speaker 1: Is that enough to end an engagement over He's an
- 22:52Speaker 1: actual detective, Hannah, Hannah, you're a baker. He can tell
- 22:57Speaker 1: his boss about the investigation. That's how I didn't feel
- 23:01Speaker 1: a he shouldn't have made that promise to her about
- 23:04Speaker 1: this investigation. Yeah, he's a police officer or a sheriff's deputy,
- 23:08Speaker 1: because I guess they're dealing with the sheriff, right, the
- 23:11Speaker 1: sheriff has a right to know information related to the investigation,
- 23:14Speaker 1: of course, yes, And I wondered, like, as a deputy,
- 23:19Speaker 1: do you just tell your fiance or people you're involved with,
- 23:21Speaker 1: you go ahead, and it's a cold case, you can
- 23:25Speaker 1: explore it. I think the sticking point there is that
- 23:28Speaker 1: he's the detective, right, because otherwise she's just like any
- 23:31Speaker 1: other Joe Schmoe podcaster who's out here trying to who
- 23:35Speaker 1: can yes, yeah, uncover the details of this cold case now,
- 23:39Speaker 1: to be clear sometimes that it's been done. Did you
- 23:43Speaker 1: ever listened to in your own backyard? Yes, they arrested
- 23:47Speaker 1: that guy I know, and any something years later I know,
- 23:51Speaker 1: and all the work and I can't remember her name
- 23:53Speaker 1: right now, but all the work that she did on
- 23:54Speaker 1: the Golden State Killer. She died Patton Oswald's wife, Yes, yes,
- 24:00Speaker 1: Michelle McNamara, Yes, good job, and that also led to
- 24:04Speaker 1: his arrest. I didn't mean Joe Shmoe podcaster. I just
- 24:07Speaker 1: meant they don't typically have a tie to law enforcement,
- 24:10Speaker 1: where she did to maybe get some of the information, right, Yeah, Yeah, man,
- 24:14Speaker 1: on the street. Isn't allowed to go sift through rubble
- 24:18Speaker 1: and look for evidence. Right, she shouldn't have been allowed
- 24:21Speaker 1: to do that either. Oh quite frankly, neither should the detective,
- 24:25Speaker 1: like the forensic team should have been there, yes, before
- 24:30Speaker 1: the baker was allowed it. Right. Maybe Mike's not a
- 24:32Speaker 1: very good sheriff stick, maybe he's not it. Maybe he's not.
- 24:35Speaker 1: Can we talk about Cameron Mathis informat? Okay, please? Okay.
- 24:39Speaker 1: So of course I'm familiar with who he is. I
- 24:42Speaker 1: know he's been on soaps forever, and he had a
- 24:46Speaker 1: lifestyle television show on Hallmark at one time. Right, Oh yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 24:52Speaker 1: well a'n ali Mano on that show. No, I think
- 24:55Speaker 1: it was Debbie Mattnopolis. Okay, anyway, I don't know what happened.
- 24:59Speaker 1: I think I got cancer. I don't know the story
- 25:01Speaker 1: about him. I just know that he is lumped in
- 25:04Speaker 1: this group of actors who moved to Great American Family
- 25:07Speaker 1: when all those changes happened. Now I can't find anything
- 25:11Speaker 1: online that says he signed an exclusive with them, but
- 25:13Speaker 1: he has done a couple movies with them, Okay, And
- 25:16Speaker 1: now all of a sudden he's back, like quietly coming
- 25:20Speaker 1: back to Hallmark. So I hear you. I have to
- 25:23Speaker 1: wonder if Great American Family and Bill Abbott didn't come
- 25:27Speaker 1: to these people that he knows from having worked with
- 25:29Speaker 1: them and say, look, this is what we can do
- 25:31Speaker 1: for you. Because if you look at any statement from
- 25:34Speaker 1: Bill Abbott and Great American Family pr and they're killing
- 25:38Speaker 1: the game over there huge. So I could see them
- 25:42Speaker 1: being made all of these promises, You're not going to
- 25:44Speaker 1: get lost in the sea of Hallmark actors. You're going
- 25:46Speaker 1: to be one of our leads. You're going to be
- 25:48Speaker 1: one of our guys. And then as it comes out
- 25:52Speaker 1: what this network stands for and what they're leaning into
- 25:55Speaker 1: what they stand for, you get into the nitty gritty
- 25:58Speaker 1: of what that means. And maybe there's some regret there, yeah,
- 26:01Speaker 1: and maybe there's not. I don't know. I don't know how, Karen,
- 26:04Speaker 1: but I do think Hallmark let him come back. Maybe
- 26:08Speaker 1: he saw the air of his ways, maybe he made
- 26:11Speaker 1: movies that were acquired by Ga gaff whatever they're called Audville. Well,
- 26:16Speaker 1: I just think that it would be nice to have
- 26:18Speaker 1: some sort of statement from him, some sort of humble pie,
- 26:24Speaker 1: if you will. I don't know. I believe in the
- 26:27Speaker 1: Facebook group. One of the listeners said that Alice Sweeney
- 26:31Speaker 1: really had to lobby for him for this movie. Oh,
- 26:35Speaker 1: I don't know any facts behind that. I'm just reiterating
- 26:40Speaker 1: what I read, So who knows. It would have been
- 26:43Speaker 1: weird though, don't you think if they made this movie
- 26:46Speaker 1: again and then they had a completely different actor in
- 26:48Speaker 1: the role of Mike. Indeed, I think he's a really
- 26:52Speaker 1: good actor. But I'm hung up on this other staff,
- 26:56Speaker 1: so I don't know how to feel about it. It's
- 26:59Speaker 1: perhaps being kept intentionally big. Maybe I just want to
- 27:03Speaker 1: say that Ali Mano also Ali Fetadowski was her maid.
- 27:07Speaker 1: Oh oh yeah, she was part of it was called
- 27:10Speaker 1: Home and Family. In that show. Yes, he and Wi
- 27:12Speaker 1: Mattnopolis were the lead host, but she was their lifestyle
- 27:15Speaker 1: and DIY expertation. Anyways, a former bachelorette, I believe alor. Yeah,
- 27:22Speaker 1: she was on the Bachelor and then a bachelorette and
- 27:24Speaker 1: now she's married to somebody needs radio host who Kevin Mano? Anyway,
- 27:30Speaker 1: That's all I wished for me too. I only have
- 27:33Speaker 1: one Did you see that? I have a couple sister
- 27:36Speaker 1: in this movie. She's got all these photos. Yes, she's
- 27:39Speaker 1: taken yeah, and she goes, I'm going to print some
- 27:41Speaker 1: of the best ones and make a carousel for Instagram.
- 27:43Speaker 1: What Instagram's a digital social media platform. Oh I didn't.
- 27:48Speaker 1: They don't even catch the print and make them for what? Yeah,
- 27:51Speaker 1: they're on your computer. Maybe the line is I'm going
- 27:55Speaker 1: to download some and put them on Instagram. And there's
- 27:59Speaker 1: an early scene where they are at the bakery and
- 28:01Speaker 1: it is full on snowing outside coming down. Did you
- 28:07Speaker 1: notice how many times they talk about the weather. I
- 28:08Speaker 1: did notice the snow outside multiple times, like, this weather
- 28:11Speaker 1: is so weird. And I wonder if they threw that
- 28:13Speaker 1: in because the weather was actually being weird. Yes, baby,
- 28:17Speaker 1: I love that the bakery looked like a real bakery
- 28:20Speaker 1: working space and not some sort of like set. Yes,
- 28:23Speaker 1: this is cute, very cute, a big space. Yes, I
- 28:27Speaker 1: wonder if that's a real bakery space. I need to know.
- 28:30Speaker 1: I liked the bakery. And finally, when Mike and Hannah
- 28:34Speaker 1: are sifting through the rubble, the background music was still
- 28:37Speaker 1: that I sound like one of the old ladies on
- 28:39Speaker 1: IMDb who complain about how loud the background music is,
- 28:43Speaker 1: but I could not hear their dialogue well. As a
- 28:46Speaker 1: similar complaint. My clothes captioning yesterday kept going to the
- 28:50Speaker 1: top of the screen so it was over their faces.
- 28:52Speaker 1: I couldn't concentrate because I was like, is there a
- 28:55Speaker 1: way to move the location of the clothes captioning? So
- 28:58Speaker 1: the team old Lady right here? All right? So what
- 29:01Speaker 1: did you give this movie? Two point seven five stars?
- 29:03Speaker 1: O give it four. That was very enjoyable to watch.
- 29:06Speaker 1: I agree. I am looking forward to the next one.
- 29:09Speaker 1: I think this is a strong team on screen. Oh
