- 0:21Speaker 2: It's the latest mail Bag episode here at four finger Discount.
- 0:23Speaker 1: I'm feeling good. You're looking good. I'm Dano and guy.
- 0:26Speaker 1: Thank you very much for saying I look good. I'm
- 0:27Speaker 1: feeling good as well. You, of course are just you know,
- 0:30Speaker 1: I'm mackim I.
- 0:31Speaker 2: What do you call bad boys? Jumper?
- 0:32Speaker 1: Did you wake up and say this morning? What am
- 0:34Speaker 1: I going to do? You did do that? Well, when
- 0:36Speaker 1: you're coming from me the correct We here to answer
- 0:39Speaker 1: some questions from our lovely listeners.
- 0:41Speaker 2: This month we missed a day.
- 0:42Speaker 1: So sure are lovely and we sure are here to
- 0:45Speaker 1: answer them. That's the best of our ability.
- 0:46Speaker 2: Yeah, we're not going to be talking about much Simpsons
- 0:48Speaker 2: news because, to be honest, there really isn't much happening.
- 0:50Speaker 2: There's a new Disney special that came out. It's called
- 0:52Speaker 2: Finally Being Released Extreme Makeover Homer Edition. I've watched the
- 0:55Speaker 2: first bit of it first. It's like a three hours
- 0:57Speaker 2: of horror with an episode wrapped around it, so it's
- 0:59Speaker 2: a forty five minute Simpsons episode. The Disney Place special.
- 1:02Speaker 1: We talked about this with our power Matt Sealmony. He did, Yeah,
- 1:05Speaker 1: and he told us it was going to be airing
- 1:06Speaker 1: on Will Simpsons Day. And then we said, hey, guys,
- 1:07Speaker 1: there's a new special coming out Will Simpson's Day. And
- 1:09Speaker 1: then on Will Simpsons they nothing came out and everyone's.
- 1:11Speaker 2: Like, yo, goober, what's special. We took the hit Matt Jesus. Yes,
- 1:16Speaker 2: but it's coming out, and yeah, we've watched the first half.
- 1:18Speaker 2: We're going to be doing a review of it in
- 1:19Speaker 2: a later episode of the podcast here. But for what
- 1:22Speaker 2: I'd seen so far, it was actually quite enjoyable. Did
- 1:25Speaker 2: mind it? Yeah, it's a treus of horror, but movie
- 1:28Speaker 2: parodies essentially correct.
- 1:29Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, I don't think we're spoiling anything to
- 1:31Speaker 1: say that they are taking the mickey out of or
- 1:34Speaker 1: taking the mickey. Well, I didn't want to say taking
- 1:37Speaker 1: the piss because they're run by Disney. Is that what
- 1:39Speaker 1: you're saying now, taking the mickey? That's that's exactly what
- 1:41Speaker 1: I mean. Well done you for reading it. But there's
- 1:46Speaker 1: a top Gun parody. There's a bit of a mad
- 1:49Speaker 1: Men slag. Yeah, kind of a Madman tribute.
- 1:51Speaker 2: I thought mad Man.
- 1:52Speaker 1: Yeah that yeah, anyway, but that kind of mid fifties
- 1:56Speaker 1: well John Handmaids will makes a cameo. Ah, that part
- 1:59Speaker 1: I missed.
- 2:00Speaker 2: I looked away and a couple of There's one point
- 2:01Speaker 2: in it where they're going through all their various names
- 2:04Speaker 2: and one guy's like comeo and it's John hamm Oh wow.
- 2:07Speaker 1: There you go, that John Ham. He'll do anything for
- 2:09Speaker 1: a buck. Yes, but then they had the mad Man parties.
- 2:11Speaker 1: I'm assuming he's in that as well. Uh and a
- 2:14Speaker 1: Joker parody.
- 2:15Speaker 2: Yes.
- 2:15Speaker 1: Yeah. Look, we'll talk about it when we talk about it,
- 2:17Speaker 1: but it's out there. It exists. It's on Disney Plus
- 2:20Speaker 1: now Extreme Makeover Home Edition.
- 2:24Speaker 2: First question here, though, by the way some may bake questions,
- 2:26Speaker 2: let's answer it sure. This one here comes from Cassie.
- 2:29Speaker 2: Where do you both honestly see the Simpsons in five
- 2:32Speaker 2: and ten years? Does it still exist? If so, where
- 2:36Speaker 2: does it air? I don't think the Simpsons will be
- 2:38Speaker 2: on TV in ten years. I still think they'll exist.
- 2:41Speaker 2: There'll be a Disney Plus exclusive show. And the reason
- 2:43Speaker 2: I say that is because they're kind of teasing that
- 2:45Speaker 2: now or testing the waters. Where the season of the
- 2:48Speaker 2: Simpsons is. I think it's fifteen episodes on TV and
- 2:52Speaker 2: like two or three specials that are airing each season,
- 2:56Speaker 2: So there's one I think there's one in now, and
- 2:59Speaker 2: there's one later like the spring, like one later and
- 3:01Speaker 2: like their winter but our summer kind of thing. So
- 3:03Speaker 2: they're going to be testing out saying we'll people just
- 3:05Speaker 2: go straight to Disney Plus to watch these standard episodes.
- 3:08Speaker 2: They're caught specialists. But this one hears forty five minutes.
- 3:10Speaker 2: The other two aren't going to be forty five minutes.
- 3:11Speaker 2: So if people if that works well, I think you'll
- 3:14Speaker 2: find after season forty, they might transition the show to
- 3:17Speaker 2: Disney Plus.
- 3:18Speaker 1: Yeah. Sorry, CASI to give a boring answer, but I
- 3:20Speaker 1: agree with Dano. That's not a boring answer because his
- 3:23Speaker 1: idea is correct. But yeah, I think I think it
- 3:25Speaker 1: really is more special than anything else. And yeah, certainly
- 3:28Speaker 1: more more streamer than network television.
- 3:29Speaker 2: Absolutely, I just don't think network TV is Will there
- 3:32Speaker 2: still be a place for network TV in ten years?
- 3:34Speaker 1: I think there is still. I think that. Yeah, I
- 3:36Speaker 1: think there are enough people who are happy just to
- 3:39Speaker 1: get entertainment for nothing.
- 3:43Speaker 2: Will my parents still be here in ten years? They will,
- 3:45Speaker 2: so there's still be a place for network TV.
- 3:46Speaker 1: Correct. Yeah, And look, this is me being a little cynical,
- 3:50Speaker 1: but you did ask to be honest, the IP is
- 3:54Speaker 1: too valuable. Of of course, it is to just let lay
- 3:57Speaker 1: dormant or let do nothing.
- 3:59Speaker 2: If it's not the same as a TV show, the
- 4:01Speaker 2: Simpsons will be doing something.
- 4:02Speaker 1: The Simpsons brand will go on and on.
- 4:05Speaker 2: Yes, next question he comes from Matthew, what have been
- 4:08Speaker 2: your pleasant surprise episode so far in season twenty one.
- 4:12Speaker 1: That's a that's a tough one. It's an interesting one.
- 4:17Speaker 1: I think we have been sometimes pleasantly surprised, maybe not
- 4:20Speaker 1: by an overall episode, but by bits and pieces that
- 4:23Speaker 1: you'll find in certain episodes that's either moving the Simpsons
- 4:27Speaker 1: forward or that's a callback or reminiscent of classic slash
- 4:31Speaker 1: vintage Simpsons.
- 4:32Speaker 2: Well, I really liked the season premier Home of the
- 4:34Speaker 2: WHOPPERP where it becomes the superhero in the films. Yeah,
- 4:38Speaker 2: I really liked that one.
- 4:39Speaker 1: I was very partial this one we covered recently. I
- 4:41Speaker 1: like Cheaper Hearts a lot.
- 4:42Speaker 2: That was a really good one.
- 4:43Speaker 1: Yeah, I thought that worked really well. I thought, you know,
- 4:45Speaker 1: it took a character you thought you knew a fair
- 4:48Speaker 1: bit about, but showed you different sizes of cheap wigam
- 4:52Speaker 1: in this case, did it in an interesting and kind
- 4:55Speaker 1: of heartwarming story. I thought it was a nice story
- 4:57Speaker 1: about male bonding, male friendship. Indeed, happy with that one.
- 5:01Speaker 1: There have been there have been some absolute stinkers. We
- 5:03Speaker 1: can't deny that.
- 5:03Speaker 2: I say that because I feel like I'm getting to
- 5:05Speaker 2: that point in my life where you know, I'm getting
- 5:07Speaker 2: middle aged and making new friends at this age is hard, sure,
- 5:11Speaker 2: and it's challenging. And that's why I thought I really
- 5:13Speaker 2: related to that episode. Don't think I've had to watch
- 5:15Speaker 2: it when it was in season twenty one. Might not
- 5:16Speaker 2: have related to Chief of Hearts as much, but that
- 5:18Speaker 2: one I did relate to, and I won't lie. I've
- 5:20Speaker 2: already taken my notes for No Better Blues, and I
- 5:22Speaker 2: really liked that one as well. I thought it's a
- 5:23Speaker 2: very sweet Mother's Day episode. Okay, then I liked it.
- 5:27Speaker 1: We may have to disagree, that's fine.
- 5:29Speaker 2: Yeah, many others from this season in particular, hmm. See,
- 5:32Speaker 2: I really like Once upon a Time in Springfield. You're
- 5:34Speaker 2: not a big fan, but that's the one with Princess
- 5:35Speaker 2: Paps Penelope comes. I like that one billion Dollar maybe
- 5:40Speaker 2: actually that's the one.
- 5:40Speaker 1: Yeah, wins.
- 5:41Speaker 2: That's a lot of but you can't tell much about it.
- 5:43Speaker 1: That's right. Yeah, there are certainly some good parts in that.
- 5:45Speaker 1: I Actually I think Thursdays with Aby I thought was okay.
- 5:50Speaker 2: Yeah, the color yellow, No, the colors that I didn't like.
- 5:54Speaker 2: Boy Met's curl wasn't too bad. It was okay, it
- 5:56Speaker 2: was the Olympic one. But but yeah, they're sort of
- 5:58Speaker 2: a handful of the surprises.
- 5:59Speaker 1: Yeah, this season, I think of it is as I've
- 6:02Speaker 1: been saying, but a good idea is worth repeating. Some
- 6:05Speaker 1: good ideas in there, but not really fleshed out properly,
- 6:09Speaker 1: or not fleshed out certainly the way that I would
- 6:10Speaker 1: like them. Yes, anyway, Yeah, but this has not been
- 6:15Speaker 1: a totally dud season. There's been some good stuff in there.
- 6:17Speaker 2: Next question he comes from Jeff, what random Simpson's character?
- 6:20Speaker 2: Would you love to write an origin story for someone
- 6:24Speaker 2: who only appears in one scene but has left the
- 6:25Speaker 2: last lasting impression on you as a viewer.
- 6:28Speaker 1: Well, it's funny we were talking about this off Mike,
- 6:31Speaker 1: or it just came up sort of randomly. Oh No,
- 6:35Speaker 1: I'd love to do sort of like the origin story
- 6:38Speaker 1: of that stand up comedian who he thinks about weird stuff. Now, look,
- 6:42Speaker 1: what if you eat and mister tea out of baby
- 6:46Speaker 1: just too old?
- 6:47Speaker 2: Yeah? Sorry, that's not the Black Guys drive like this?
- 6:50Speaker 2: Do you with that guy?
- 6:51Speaker 1: No, But there was a movie, oh gosh, a very
- 6:56Speaker 1: long time ago called Punchline Yeah, with Tom Hanks and
- 6:59Speaker 1: Sally and they were sort of like not Forrest Gump,
- 7:02Speaker 1: not Forest Gump. This is it right than being a
- 7:06Speaker 1: mother and son in Forrest Gump. They were both kind
- 7:09Speaker 1: of amateur stand ups going to open mic nights. I mean,
- 7:12Speaker 1: Sally Field was like this suburban housewife who's like my
- 7:16Speaker 1: dark secrets that I just want to get on stage
- 7:17Speaker 1: and tell jokes. And Tom Hanks is like this medical
- 7:21Speaker 1: student who's like, my family's pressuring me be a doctor,
- 7:24Speaker 1: but I just want to get up on stage and
- 7:25Speaker 1: tell jokes. And it's partly comedy but also partly kind
- 7:28Speaker 1: of drama. I'd like to do sort of an episode
- 7:31Speaker 1: about like the stand up comedians of Springfield, like the
- 7:35Speaker 1: black guy drive like this whe guys drivel or and
- 7:38Speaker 1: also but also stand up guy you know, with like
- 7:40Speaker 1: a bit of the bull who doesn't phone on.
- 7:43Speaker 2: They're so terrible, but you sort of.
- 7:45Speaker 1: Do like a behind the scene like I'm a big
- 7:46Speaker 1: sucker for when The Simpsons does like behind the scenes
- 7:49Speaker 1: showbiz documentaries, which leads to the other one that I
- 7:52Speaker 1: wanted to. I initially had like Lindsay Nagels Down, like
- 7:55Speaker 1: like an episode of Yeah, but neither is this character
- 8:00Speaker 1: and so I'm kind of messing with the with the
- 8:03Speaker 1: question here. But Netflix had this documentary about Arnold Schwarzenegger.
- 8:06Speaker 1: I think it was just called Arnold. It was about
- 8:09Speaker 1: his life and his rise to power and all that
- 8:10Speaker 1: kind of stuff. He's a sexual DMI at that man
- 8:14Speaker 1: sexual enthusiast one. He's not trying my clure, but like
- 8:19Speaker 1: a version of that about Rainier wolf Castle, but just
- 8:21Speaker 1: like taking the piss about you know, this is me
- 8:24Speaker 1: growing up in the Osta.
- 8:26Speaker 2: Well he had that when he's a kid. He's on
- 8:27Speaker 2: that commercial make Blowney.
- 8:31Speaker 4: Maybe Initiate has a first day. But yeah, just the
- 8:37Speaker 4: the early career and rise to power of Rainier wolf
- 8:39Speaker 4: Castle I think would be hilarious. Yeah, I know it's
- 8:41Speaker 4: I know it's not. That's not a one and done character.
- 8:44Speaker 2: But just a you've given us some one undone and
- 8:46Speaker 2: a regular character.
- 8:47Speaker 1: So I like the thing I've gone above and beyond.
- 8:50Speaker 2: Yes, So I think, well, the obvious one, I know,
- 8:53Speaker 2: but Joey Jojo Junior shab I want to know how
- 8:57Speaker 2: his parents came of that name, and I want to
- 9:02Speaker 2: see his life having that name and how it is
- 9:05Speaker 2: impacted into the point where you know, he's finally found
- 9:09Speaker 2: a place where he's got some solitude. He's gotten away
- 9:11Speaker 2: from all the criticism and the mockery, and motus breaks
- 9:14Speaker 2: down again.
- 9:15Speaker 1: It's the most He's finally found a place where everybody
- 9:18Speaker 1: knows your name except except Mark Ye.
- 9:21Speaker 2: Barney, though Barney clearly has a friendship with this guy.
- 9:23Speaker 2: Hey Joey Jojo logo.
- 9:27Speaker 1: Having said that, could we also give a little love
- 9:30Speaker 1: and a bit of backstory to my man Guy incognito.
- 9:34Speaker 2: Yes, oh's not actually Homer? Who is Homer? What are you?
- 9:41Speaker 2: A French accent? Doesn't give me a friend accent, goes Homer?
- 9:45Speaker 2: Who is Homer? That's how he talks.
- 9:49Speaker 1: It sounded kind of French though, the way you're doing it,
- 9:52Speaker 1: or the way it sounds on the shore.
- 9:53Speaker 2: You're just like, where's Homer?
- 9:54Speaker 1: Who is ol?
- 9:58Speaker 2: Yes, you're right, who is your relative of Homers?
- 10:02Speaker 1: We will ever know?
- 10:02Speaker 2: But guy con that's one of the best gags of
- 10:04Speaker 2: all time, is it not? Oh yeah, Kokney doo. And
- 10:07Speaker 2: I've told this story before the podcast I'm telled against.
- 10:09Speaker 2: It's a great one. Guy and I used to work
- 10:14Speaker 2: together at a place where Guy now works again anyway,
- 10:16Speaker 2: but they got rid of a bunch of people at
- 10:19Speaker 2: Christmas time, and Guy was one of them, and they
- 10:22Speaker 2: told them we've got no not enough work. Christmas times
- 10:24Speaker 2: over you, We're going to get rid of some people.
- 10:26Speaker 2: I've fortunate business kid, business business, Welcome to Hollywood. And
- 10:30Speaker 2: then that same day, over the group skype chat, someone
- 10:34Speaker 2: puts out a mess saying, hey, guys, I know we're
- 10:36Speaker 2: super busy. We're going to be putting some more people
- 10:37Speaker 2: on this week, don't worry. And guys still in the
- 10:41Speaker 2: group chat because he used to work there as of
- 10:43Speaker 2: that morning, sends a picture of just Guy Kokney.
- 10:48Speaker 1: Yeah the bottom. So if you're interested to apply, or
- 10:50Speaker 1: if you know someone wills to apply, yeah, let us stuck.
- 10:54Speaker 2: And I would like to I would like some work.
- 10:58Speaker 2: I haven't unpacked my locke yet. Guy.
- 11:02Speaker 1: That was fun.
- 11:04Speaker 2: Honestly that that was great. The office died. When I
- 11:10Speaker 2: think of the two gigs, well, I did more than
- 11:12Speaker 2: one gag. A lot of them were terrible, but there
- 11:15Speaker 2: was that, and there was turned Down, goes on your
- 11:18Speaker 2: tumb so at that place, turned out for.
- 11:22Speaker 1: Coming to your heart from twenty fifteen or whatever that does.
- 11:25Speaker 2: Next question here is from Tim. Has the Simpsons ever
- 11:28Speaker 2: inspired you to do something? Well, the Simpsons has taught
- 11:32Speaker 2: me things. So for example, and I've mentioned this on
- 11:34Speaker 2: the podcast, definitely, but in the episode where Homer goes
- 11:38Speaker 2: into the three D world, Professor Frank draws a square,
- 11:42Speaker 2: an ordinary square on the board and then draws another
- 11:45Speaker 2: square and links makes a cube. Right, I learned how
- 11:49Speaker 2: to draw a cube. Thanks for the same thing. And
- 11:51Speaker 2: I went to school the next day and said I
- 11:52Speaker 2: can draw a cube. And now kids like, what do
- 11:54Speaker 2: you mean? I drew a square and I said I
- 11:56Speaker 2: do this and do that, and I'm like whoa. And
- 11:58Speaker 2: I was like, the Simpsons me something. Yeah, But has
- 12:02Speaker 2: it inspired me to do anything? I'm sure it has.
- 12:04Speaker 1: Well, it's funny you should mention that because the Simpsons
- 12:06Speaker 1: inspired me to watch tron No. I racked my brain
- 12:11Speaker 1: thinking about this. I'm wondering if there's any sort of.
- 12:13Speaker 2: Like seeing Homer get into shape and things like that
- 12:15Speaker 2: sort of makes me sometimes think you know what, it's
- 12:16Speaker 2: time to get back into shape.
- 12:17Speaker 1: Oh yeah, maybe, yeah, I've not hired a life coach,
- 12:21Speaker 1: but yeah, who is it who? I keep beginning his name,
- 12:25Speaker 1: the guy who went Homers or like rising through the
- 12:27Speaker 1: ranks or whatever. He gets like a person I mean,
- 12:29Speaker 1: Carl Carl. Yeah, yeah, yeah, that's right. That's hard.
- 12:31Speaker 2: You conceal it, that's yeah, yeah.
- 12:35Speaker 1: Yeah, you conceal it. But I don't know it helps
- 12:40Speaker 1: make Homer a better persons, like you need someone in
- 12:42Speaker 1: your corner, like that's just been a life coach or
- 12:43Speaker 1: something like that. There were times every once in a
- 12:45Speaker 1: while it's like, hmm, I feel a little overwhelmed by
- 12:48Speaker 1: modern life and I don't think I'm reaching my full potential.
- 12:50Speaker 1: I've said this very late in the game to.
- 12:52Speaker 2: Me as you're walking in this morning.
- 12:54Speaker 1: So d do I any think I'm reaching full potental?
- 12:57Speaker 1: Sit down a podcast? Shut up?
- 13:00Speaker 2: Yes, yes, I've never really seen this Simpson. Shut up.
- 13:07Speaker 1: We're doing a percase about Richard Simmons.
- 13:10Speaker 2: I think also for me seeing episodes now as a dad,
- 13:13Speaker 2: like and Maggie Makes Three. I remember watching that and
- 13:16Speaker 2: seeing Howme's relationship with Maggie and how you know he
- 13:19Speaker 2: adores her and whatnot, but it makes me sometimes think
- 13:21Speaker 2: that I don't quite ill saying to Nicol the other day,
- 13:23Speaker 2: I feel like I don't quite give Holly the amount
- 13:27Speaker 2: of attention and what's the term I'm looking for love?
- 13:31Speaker 2: I'm not love, So like I don't give her a benefit,
- 13:33Speaker 2: not the benefit. Like sometimes I underestate how smart she
- 13:35Speaker 2: is in the fact that she's actually older. I still
- 13:37Speaker 2: see her as the baby. Oh okay, and I'm like, no,
- 13:39Speaker 2: she's she's no halfway through prep. Now she's writing and
- 13:42Speaker 2: reading and things like that, and so I still see
- 13:44Speaker 2: her as my little girl because she's the youngest. And
- 13:47Speaker 2: I watched Homer and his relationship with Lisa and Maggie
- 13:49Speaker 2: what I watched as it was, and go, I need
- 13:51Speaker 2: to be not a better dad, but I could just
- 13:53Speaker 2: be more present, yeah, more present, showing her more love
- 13:56Speaker 2: and giving her more.
- 13:57Speaker 1: I don't know what.
- 13:58Speaker 2: I can't think of the word I'm looking for. Yeah.
- 14:00Speaker 1: But it was at that moment you realized that she
- 14:02Speaker 1: was no longer at a girl. She was a little woman.
- 14:04Speaker 2: She was a little woman. Indeed, yes, yes, And then
- 14:07Speaker 2: I am indeed here forever. Next one here is from Rebecca. Rebecca,
- 14:13Speaker 2: give it up, Rebecca, but what do you mean even
- 14:15Speaker 2: answer to her question? Her question is would you like
- 14:18Speaker 2: a dance?
- 14:20Speaker 1: Rebecca. She didn't come in to be catching strays like this.
- 14:23Speaker 2: Are you guys fans of any other non Simpsons TV
- 14:26Speaker 2: recap podcasts?
- 14:27Speaker 1: There are none?
- 14:28Speaker 2: Yeah, well non Simpsons.
- 14:31Speaker 1: See.
- 14:31Speaker 2: I The reason I started doing this show is because
- 14:34Speaker 2: I used to listen to Vince Gilligan had a Breaking
- 14:36Speaker 2: badcap podcast and it used to be a network. It
- 14:41Speaker 2: was like TV. I was like TV something it was.
- 14:44Speaker 2: It was like it was all TV recaps right, oh
- 14:47Speaker 2: on television and that pity nah and that wasn't it
- 14:49Speaker 2: was TV something. It's got TV something, Okay, And basically
- 14:52Speaker 2: they were just like watch TV show, just batter about
- 14:53Speaker 2: it for half an hour, twenty minutes sometimes whatever. And
- 14:55Speaker 2: I used to go to bed. I used to love
- 14:56Speaker 2: watching and it was Breaking Bad was the one for me.
- 14:58Speaker 2: And there was a son of any one as well.
- 15:00Speaker 1: Well.
- 15:00Speaker 2: I just love going to bed and listening to these
- 15:02Speaker 2: people dissect the show. Because you know, the way TV
- 15:05Speaker 2: works now is you don't all watch the show at
- 15:06Speaker 2: the same time. You don't go to work the next
- 15:08Speaker 2: day and go oh, did you watch the Latters? Percent
- 15:09Speaker 2: of this it's just you know you watch it when
- 15:11Speaker 2: you watch always no spoilers, no spoilers correct. So it
- 15:13Speaker 2: was just great being able to finally, even though I
- 15:15Speaker 2: couldn't talk back, just hearing people discussing the show, and
- 15:18Speaker 2: I was like, this is what it would be like
- 15:19Speaker 2: if I was still able to talk about the show
- 15:21Speaker 2: that I love and maybe go is there a Simpsons one?
- 15:23Speaker 1: Yes, it was a Symptons one. I didn't think it
- 15:26Speaker 1: was that good room for another on. Yes, that's how
- 15:29Speaker 1: fourfing of discomp was born. But I remember that the
- 15:31Speaker 1: Breaking Bad recap podcast and the Sons of Anichi one
- 15:34Speaker 1: in particular, I remember just being big fans of. But
- 15:37Speaker 1: of course all, yeah, this isn't a recap one as such,
- 15:40Speaker 1: But I'm a big fan of a podcast called The Watch.
- 15:44Speaker 1: It's on the Ringer podcast network.
- 15:46Speaker 2: You can marry those men if you could, good, I
- 15:48Speaker 2: really could.
- 15:48Speaker 1: I'd like to be part of that extended family. We
- 15:51Speaker 1: spoke to Alan Siegel, the writer of Stupid TV Me
- 15:54Speaker 1: More Funny, The Great Simpsons Book, Oral History Book. He's
- 15:58Speaker 1: a writer for The Ringer but this is their TV
- 16:00Speaker 1: podcast hosted by two very talented guys Chris Ryan and
- 16:05Speaker 1: Andy Greenwold. They've got great banter, a great relationship, funny stuff.
- 16:08Speaker 1: It also goes in depth. It's tough though, because, as
- 16:11Speaker 1: you said, you know, we're all not watching. It's not
- 16:14Speaker 1: really appointment television anymore. It's not like so eers on
- 16:17Speaker 1: at eight thirty or something like that. It's more like, okay,
- 16:20Speaker 1: the whole season of SO and so, just season five,
- 16:22Speaker 1: yea this week, yeah, thinks tomorrow and art as we recall.
- 16:26Speaker 2: This, but for six weeks by the time they hear this, well.
- 16:28Speaker 1: Correct, Yeah, I mean, but say I was waiting for
- 16:31Speaker 1: every episode of the Apple TV show Widow's Bay to drop.
- 16:35Speaker 1: I've heard it's very, very good, and I'm like, this
- 16:37Speaker 1: sounds like it's up my alley. But I'll wait for
- 16:39Speaker 1: the whole thing and then I'll watch as much as
- 16:41Speaker 1: I like. So that meant I had to sort of
- 16:43Speaker 1: full go episodes at the watch because it's like we're
- 16:45Speaker 1: talking about episodes three and four of Windows Mats like
- 16:48Speaker 1: I love when shows drop shows weekly still like Mandalorien
- 16:50Speaker 1: was still doing it because for me, I think I
- 16:52Speaker 1: just subconsciously see the whole new season of the show's out,
- 16:55Speaker 1: and I go, oh, is a slog.
- 16:57Speaker 2: You know, it's a lot of episodes consumings of the Bears.
- 17:00Speaker 2: I'm like, oh, we'll watch the new episode of the Bear.
- 17:02Speaker 2: There's an entire new season out. I'm like, well, I
- 17:06Speaker 2: know it requires.
- 17:07Speaker 1: You to have a little and not just you, I
- 17:09Speaker 1: mean I mean everyone to have a little sort of
- 17:11Speaker 1: delay your gratification a bit. And I don't think I
- 17:13Speaker 1: need all the pringles.
- 17:14Speaker 2: Yeah, and I don't think you really appreciate episodes for
- 17:17Speaker 2: episodes anymore because it sort of becomes a blurb, especially
- 17:20Speaker 2: if you just bing.
- 17:21Speaker 1: Them all absolutely. Yeah.
- 17:22Speaker 2: It used to be you did watch an episode and
- 17:24Speaker 2: how good was that episode? Now it's when this happened?
- 17:27Speaker 2: What episode was that? Oh?
- 17:28Speaker 1: I think it was like five or six h It
- 17:30Speaker 1: still happens as some degree, maybe talking about the Bear.
- 17:32Speaker 1: I mean, people really remember Forks from season two? Yeah, yeah,
- 17:36Speaker 1: you're right. It can be easy for them to all
- 17:38Speaker 1: blur into one. But if you're asking about other TV podcasts,
- 17:40Speaker 1: I recommend the watch.
- 17:42Speaker 2: Okay, this one here is from Dylan. How would you
- 17:46Speaker 2: both rate your twenty twenty six so far? Have you
- 17:48Speaker 2: achieved what you set out to do? What goals do
- 17:49Speaker 2: you both have for the remainder of the year.
- 17:52Speaker 1: Oh gosh, okay, yeah, because we enduring in the sort
- 17:54Speaker 1: of the half way mark, well, first six months in
- 17:56Speaker 1: nearly over feeling pretty good. I got to say, look,
- 17:59Speaker 1: I think it was slow getting going for me, but
- 18:02Speaker 1: I'd like to say that physically and professionally, I am
- 18:05Speaker 1: taking some very positive forward steps.
- 18:08Speaker 2: I think I'm about to take some more positive steps. Professionally,
- 18:10Speaker 2: I feel like i'm sort of I'm feeling very like
- 18:15Speaker 2: I'm wasting my time a bit and I'm wasting my potential.
- 18:18Speaker 2: I don't feel like I'm getting the most out of myself,
- 18:20Speaker 2: and I feel like it's time to start putting becoming
- 18:23Speaker 2: more focused with what I'm doing. Is what I'm doing
- 18:26Speaker 2: worth doing? Doesn't mean ending this podcast, but it means
- 18:29Speaker 2: things might need to be put into place to go
- 18:31Speaker 2: what is the best thing for the family, and just
- 18:34Speaker 2: putting plans into place to go do things because you
- 18:37Speaker 2: love them, but also there needs to be a reason
- 18:39Speaker 2: financially that you're doing it as well. If you're not
- 18:41Speaker 2: getting anything financial benefit out of the hard work that
- 18:43Speaker 2: you're putting in, they maybe need to reassess what you're
- 18:45Speaker 2: doing well.
- 18:46Speaker 1: Correct, So what you're saying is you're getting into crypto. Yes,
- 18:51Speaker 1: this podcast brought to you by a bitcolate.
- 18:52Speaker 2: But I want to be starting more social media where
- 18:54Speaker 2: I was to do social media before I started podcasting,
- 18:56Speaker 2: And I think just utilizing my spare time doing that
- 18:59Speaker 2: and just something differ and I just kind of feel
- 19:00Speaker 2: like I'm kind of spinning the wheels at the moment.
- 19:03Speaker 1: Yeah, good for you.
- 19:04Speaker 2: Next one hears from Jeff. Which of Homer's side hustles
- 19:07Speaker 2: do you think he could have pursued successfully as a
- 19:09Speaker 2: career instead of just working at the power plant? Well?
- 19:12Speaker 1: Was bowling ali right?
- 19:13Speaker 2: He seemed to like that. Was he only enough at
- 19:14Speaker 2: the bowling Alley? Is no way I went back to
- 19:16Speaker 2: the plant because he make third kid coming? Yeah, because
- 19:19Speaker 2: he loved the bowling alley. In any reason, he left
- 19:21Speaker 2: because the third baby was coming around? Work could have
- 19:24Speaker 2: made could have bought the bowling Alley.
- 19:25Speaker 1: Oh No, that seems like the one that would.
- 19:27Speaker 2: For me maybe as a manager of musicians, Like remember
- 19:31Speaker 2: he was early, he got a gifts.
- 19:34Speaker 1: I think there's something that we've talked about when Homer
- 19:36Speaker 1: has had side hustle episodes, he's generally not bad at them.
- 19:40Speaker 2: There's some that he generally you know, some of them
- 19:42Speaker 2: pretty crazy, like the sugar scheme or the grease scheme.
- 19:47Speaker 2: My Nicola died of laughter the other day because that
- 19:49Speaker 2: one came on when he's doing the grease business and
- 19:52Speaker 2: Marge goes, you really ain't going to be able to
- 19:54Speaker 2: earn a living through doing Greece, and he's like, no,
- 19:57Speaker 2: through savings and wise investments of course. With but I
- 20:03Speaker 2: also think him being like dadsing Homer. He was genuinely
- 20:07Speaker 2: good at his job. He wasn't ready for the big city.
- 20:09Speaker 2: But the reason he couldn't work for just the spirit.
- 20:11Speaker 2: The only reason it didn't work is because the big
- 20:12Speaker 2: city wasn't good enough for him. This is all you've
- 20:14Speaker 2: given us. But in Springfield and that worked.
- 20:18Speaker 1: Probably made a few bucks from that, or you know,
- 20:20Speaker 1: operating the gray economy and got a little you know,
- 20:23Speaker 1: got some favors things.
- 20:24Speaker 2: It was a good food critic. Sure, yeah, it was
- 20:28Speaker 2: a good What.
- 20:29Speaker 1: He needs to do is not just have well, Yeah,
- 20:31Speaker 1: the Simpsons need to kind of maybe address this the
- 20:33Speaker 1: modern economy, because you know, not many people have one
- 20:35Speaker 1: job anymore. You've got multiples.
- 20:37Speaker 2: Yeah, he was a good and I had multiples good
- 20:38Speaker 2: bodyguard for Mark Hamill and make Quimby.
- 20:41Speaker 1: Oh yeah, the lot that our man can do. Indeed,
- 20:45Speaker 1: recognize your talents. No, you're worth Peter says, I'd love
- 20:49Speaker 1: to hear Guy's perspective on how The Simpsons was perceived
- 20:52Speaker 1: in the early to mid nineties as someone in his twenties.
- 20:55Speaker 1: You were twenty in your twenties at that time, right, yes, yes?
- 20:58Speaker 2: Was it a show that twenty year olds were watched?
- 21:00Speaker 2: Was it seen as a kid show?
- 21:02Speaker 1: I don't remember. The known is that was super hard? No? No, look,
- 21:06Speaker 1: thank you for asking for the best of my recollection.
- 21:09Speaker 1: In the very late eighties through to the early nineties,
- 21:12Speaker 1: it was regarded kinds of pop culture phenomena. I think
- 21:15Speaker 1: I've said this in the past that you know it
- 21:16Speaker 1: was on so many magazine covers and this is yeah,
- 21:18Speaker 1: of course pre internet, and you're getting all this sort
- 21:22Speaker 1: of hype that is being filtered in from America and
- 21:25Speaker 1: landing in Australia. Is like, everyone's talking about the show
- 21:27Speaker 1: The Simpsons. Everyone loves this kid Bart Simpson and all this.
- 21:30Speaker 2: It was a cartoon.
- 21:31Speaker 1: It was also a cartoon, but then it also but
- 21:34Speaker 1: a lot of the hype and a lot of the
- 21:35Speaker 1: not just the marketing hype, but also from quote unquote
- 21:40Speaker 1: legit journalists or you know, magazine pieces or whatever. We're saying. Yeah,
- 21:44Speaker 1: it's a cartoon, but it's also really smart and really funny.
- 21:47Speaker 1: It's got these references that you might not have expected.
- 21:50Speaker 1: There's more going on here. It's you know, it's not
- 21:52Speaker 1: like some Saturday morning. It's not like he Man and
- 21:54Speaker 1: Masters of the Universes where they're trying to sell your toys.
- 21:57Speaker 1: Sure they will sell your toys. I will sell your merch,
- 21:59Speaker 1: but it's all so there's more going on here.
- 22:01Speaker 2: It's not designed to just submerch exactly right.
- 22:04Speaker 1: And yeah there was this I think yeah, initially it
- 22:06Speaker 1: was the hype that drew people in. It's like, well,
- 22:08Speaker 1: we should maybe have at least one look at all
- 22:10Speaker 1: these things while all these people are talking about and
- 22:12Speaker 1: what's on all these magazine covers. I mean, it was funny.
- 22:15Speaker 1: It went up initially against sixty minutes in Australia. In
- 22:18Speaker 1: Australia it was on Sunday night on Channel ten as
- 22:21Speaker 1: opposed to on the same time slot as Channel Lane
- 22:24Speaker 1: was running sixty minutes, and I think some people were going,
- 22:27Speaker 1: what are they doing putting this kitchen up against this
- 22:29Speaker 1: reputable news program, But people had curiosity about it, and yeah,
- 22:33Speaker 1: there was this eventual realizations like wow, no, this is
- 22:36Speaker 1: actually really smart and funny. So did you like it?
- 22:39Speaker 3: I did?
- 22:40Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean where your friends watching the Simpsons?
- 22:43Speaker 1: Some were certainly Yeah, I mean yeah, some of my
- 22:46Speaker 1: best memories of that early ear were you know, I
- 22:49Speaker 1: think it took me a little while to warn to it.
- 22:50Speaker 1: I mean that first season can be a bit of
- 22:52Speaker 1: rough sledding, as I've said in the past, but you know,
- 22:55Speaker 1: once you're in two and once you had certainly in three,
- 22:57Speaker 1: four five, it's kind of like, well, this is hilario.
- 23:00Speaker 1: Some of my best memories that, you know, going over
- 23:02Speaker 1: to my mate Steve's and Sammie Steve, Yeah, just have
- 23:05Speaker 1: a heap of beers and just watching episode episodes of
- 23:07Speaker 1: The Simpsons, yeah, and just laughing at her asses off
- 23:10Speaker 1: because it was like, oh, there's dumb stuff, but there's
- 23:12Speaker 1: also that smart stuff. So you feel pretty good about
- 23:14Speaker 1: yourself if you get some references or whatever, but there's
- 23:16Speaker 1: also just dumb jokes and they work a treat.
- 23:19Speaker 2: As a kid, it was always for me, you have
- 23:20Speaker 2: to watch the Simpsons to feel like you were part
- 23:22Speaker 2: of the crowd. Okay, yeah, and chause mum wouldn't let
- 23:24Speaker 2: me watch it. Always felt like I was on the outside,
- 23:26Speaker 2: and always kids were making Simpsons references, and I was
- 23:28Speaker 2: like I was on as a kid that his mum
- 23:30Speaker 2: won't let him watch it. So when I was finally
- 23:34Speaker 2: allowed to watch it, I just overly just went crazy
- 23:36Speaker 2: for it. And that's where my that's why I'm adding
- 23:38Speaker 2: a podcast at the Simpsons. I just became the Simpsons
- 23:40Speaker 2: guy with my friends. But I remember as a kid
- 23:43Speaker 2: in the nineties, if you know cue unless you're watching
- 23:45Speaker 2: the Simpsons. It so clearly I wasn't cool, but yeah,
- 23:49Speaker 2: I was just find it interesting. So twenty year olds
- 23:51Speaker 2: were still watching the Simpsons if it wasn't because, as
- 23:53Speaker 2: I said, yeah, animation, other animation at that time was
- 23:56Speaker 2: kids stuff.
- 23:57Speaker 1: Yeah, but this was Yeah, it was a very generation
- 24:01Speaker 1: X thing. I think as well. I mean it's kind
- 24:02Speaker 1: of like, oh, it was coming, wasn't it. Yeah, this
- 24:05Speaker 1: is kind of subversive in some ways. It's you know,
- 24:07Speaker 1: it looks like your traditional sort of family, it's even
- 24:10Speaker 1: if it is animated. But it's also O Man, do
- 24:13Speaker 1: they just reference Citizen Kane or something like that?
- 24:17Speaker 2: Yeah, And Jennifer says, if the Simpsons never existed, do
- 24:21Speaker 2: you think we'd still get the animation boom of the
- 24:23Speaker 2: nineties two thousands?
- 24:24Speaker 1: I think so. Yeah. Yeah. I mean I think you
- 24:27Speaker 1: had a combination of things. I mean, look, there's no
- 24:29Speaker 1: denying the impact of The Simpsons and the sort of
- 24:32Speaker 1: the seismic sort of the blast Ratis has and that
- 24:36Speaker 1: I think that influenced so many things. But at the
- 24:39Speaker 1: same time, you've also got you know, what I've called
- 24:43Speaker 1: the Disney animation renaissance on the big screen. I think
- 24:47Speaker 1: it's different, but it's also legitimizing animation in a way
- 24:51Speaker 1: that it hadn't been for some time. And I think
- 24:53Speaker 1: there's also this gradual ground swell of sort of like independent,
- 24:58Speaker 1: if not independent in actuals, sort of execution, independent and attitude,
- 25:04Speaker 1: but all that kind of stuff.
- 25:05Speaker 2: Do you think Parkers don't get given the chance if
- 25:07Speaker 2: the Simpsons hadn't exploded and Bebes and butt Ed hadn't exploded, Umm,
- 25:11Speaker 2: because it was pretty out there sound it was.
- 25:14Speaker 1: Yeah, I think the Simpsons probably helped give them some
- 25:18Speaker 1: degree of legitimacy. I think that it's that's all sort
- 25:22Speaker 1: of more Beavis and butt Head, though it is. Yeah,
- 25:25Speaker 1: but I think there's I think there's just too much
- 25:27Speaker 1: talent operating in the sphere. I don't think you can
- 25:31Speaker 1: just say, oh, the Simpsons was the locomotive and everyone
- 25:34Speaker 1: else spollowed as a result. I think there were multiple
- 25:36Speaker 1: things happening.
- 25:37Speaker 2: Yeah, you look at that early nineties Nickelodeon run as well,
- 25:40Speaker 2: Like there's some shows were wild, Oh yeah, what those
- 25:43Speaker 2: modern life Some of the ship in Rugrats you're like, wow, yeah, hey,
- 25:46Speaker 2: Arnold rend and Stimpy is just crazy. But that that
- 25:49Speaker 2: kind of stuff, I don't know if they get if
- 25:51Speaker 2: they get given that chance, if the Simpsons didn't boom
- 25:54Speaker 2: in the late eighties early nineties, Like I.
- 25:56Speaker 1: Said, yeah, you can't discount the imflace.
- 25:58Speaker 2: You will never know, no, no, But but you can
- 26:00Speaker 2: imagine in the pitch meanings they go, well, look at
- 26:02Speaker 2: the Simpsons. Simpsons pitch meaning you've got to have Simpsons works. Yeah,
- 26:06Speaker 2: you've got to have a comp And that helps you
- 26:08Speaker 2: imagine a lot of teams executives going, how can we
- 26:12Speaker 2: find our version of the Simpsons? We need our version
- 26:14Speaker 2: of that?
- 26:14Speaker 1: Yeh, Because I mean, I imagine the Simpsons was Yeah,
- 26:16Speaker 1: a bit. It's a gamble, isn't when it first comes out?
- 26:19Speaker 2: So and I had and I had no competition at
- 26:22Speaker 2: the time, which probably helped it as well. I had
- 26:25Speaker 2: no animated comment competition. I should say, no, that's true,
- 26:28Speaker 2: that's true. So yeah, a bit of a gamble. But
- 26:30Speaker 2: definitely the Simpsons definitely helped pave the way for what
- 26:33Speaker 2: we come out, things like Family Guy and all those
- 26:35Speaker 2: kind of shows like Seth Farnes.
- 26:36Speaker 1: Absolutely, yeah, yeah, but I think there's just too much
- 26:39Speaker 1: talent out there that would that was really long in
- 26:42Speaker 1: defined expression find an outlet, and I think it would
- 26:46Speaker 1: have found it eventually. Yeah, even without the Simpsons, but
- 26:48Speaker 1: the Simpsons definitely helped. Now.
- 26:51Speaker 2: I've posted on the on our Facebook page the last
- 26:53Speaker 2: couple of days, posting some questions out to the people,
- 26:56Speaker 2: and the first one I asked was do leaser episodes
- 26:58Speaker 2: deserve the hate that they receive? Because growing up I
- 27:02Speaker 2: wrote this in the post. When I was a kid,
- 27:05Speaker 2: the Simpsons for me was not my favorite show, but
- 27:08Speaker 2: it was a Lisa episode I'd always just go. I
- 27:10Speaker 2: always found those the least interesting, the least enjoyable. I
- 27:13Speaker 2: just found her as a character a downer, you know,
- 27:16Speaker 2: couldn't relate to her. You know, I was an eight
- 27:18Speaker 2: year old boy and not going to relate to to
- 27:19Speaker 2: Lisa and girls, you know whatever. But she also just
- 27:21Speaker 2: came across as pretentious and just preachy, preachy. Yeah, but
- 27:25Speaker 2: I've found the older I've got, the more I relate
- 27:28Speaker 2: to Lisa, because, as I was saying in the post,
- 27:30Speaker 2: I feel like the writers used Lisa as their voice,
- 27:33Speaker 2: which can be a negative because she's only eight years old,
- 27:36Speaker 2: so she's talking about topics and things that really are
- 27:38Speaker 2: more suited to a late teen. But that aside, I've
- 27:41Speaker 2: just found because I'm getting closer to the age of
- 27:44Speaker 2: the writers, I think I'm relating to them more and therefore,
- 27:46Speaker 2: as a result, relating to Lisa more.
- 27:48Speaker 1: That makes a lot of sense. I don't think they
- 27:50Speaker 1: deserve the hate that they get. I mean, sometimes they do.
- 27:52Speaker 1: I mean, not every episode is going to be winning.
- 27:54Speaker 1: Not every episode with the Homer at the middle or
- 27:57Speaker 1: Marge or whatever is always going to and you know,
- 28:01Speaker 1: some least episodes are more successful than others, whether they're
- 28:04Speaker 1: from a from a humor standpoint or a heart standpoint. Yeah,
- 28:07Speaker 1: I think the problem can be, as you said, they're
- 28:10Speaker 1: making what should be a precocious and smart young child, yeah,
- 28:15Speaker 1: more of an adult. Now. You could say that's the joke,
- 28:19Speaker 1: but I don't know. It doesn't It sometimes doesn't help
- 28:22Speaker 1: the storylines.
- 28:22Speaker 2: No, I do find she her episodes are getting less
- 28:25Speaker 2: and less hate now, But I think that's because us
- 28:28Speaker 2: who grew up watching the show, we're getting getting older, yeah,
- 28:31Speaker 2: and like not a bit about the world, and people
- 28:33Speaker 2: who are like in their teens now, they're not talking
- 28:35Speaker 2: about the Simpsons. You know, they're not going on social
- 28:38Speaker 2: media and talking about the Simpsons. I remember this. It's
- 28:39Speaker 2: just like any memories that have of the Simpsons if
- 28:42Speaker 2: we've shown it to them.
- 28:43Speaker 1: Correct.
- 28:43Speaker 2: Yeah, So I think that's why she's getting less hate now,
- 28:46Speaker 2: because we're coming around to Lisa's way thinking. The other
- 28:49Speaker 2: one I posted was this morning, was is mona Simpson
- 28:52Speaker 2: a bad mother? Was she a terrible mother for Homer?
- 28:54Speaker 2: Because I have always every time I've watched episode, ever
- 28:57Speaker 2: since I was a kid, I've always felt so happy
- 28:59Speaker 2: for Home that he finally got to reunite with his mum.
- 29:02Speaker 2: But if we're putting it on the table, she's a
- 29:05Speaker 2: pretty terrible mother who put her own well being aside, sorry,
- 29:10Speaker 2: ahead of Homer's. She didn't even leave him a goodbye letter.
- 29:14Speaker 2: She just disappeared. And not only that, she left Abe
- 29:18Speaker 2: in charge of home to be a solo parent.
- 29:21Speaker 1: True. Ah, yeah, some people should maybe not be mothers.
- 29:25Speaker 1: I mean they should have their sort of priorities in
- 29:27Speaker 1: order before they had decide on this life changing event
- 29:33Speaker 1: that his parenthood.
- 29:34Speaker 2: And I do feel sorry for the character because you know,
- 29:36Speaker 2: they show when she was younger and she was still around,
- 29:38Speaker 2: Grandpa had been to war and he'd come back, and
- 29:40Speaker 2: he had clearly seen some shit and he'd clearly been
- 29:42Speaker 2: through it, and he was just you know, stuck in
- 29:44Speaker 2: his ways, as she put it, and he's complaining about
- 29:46Speaker 2: the guy having the haircut and whatnot. So he wouldn't
- 29:48Speaker 2: have been a very nice person to be around. But
- 29:51Speaker 2: that doesn't mean you just bail on your son. True,
- 29:53Speaker 2: Like Grandpa, I can forgive you, know, leaving your husband.
- 29:55Speaker 2: I get that. You know, she was a radical, she
- 29:57Speaker 2: had her own sort of set of ways. But to
- 30:00Speaker 2: bail and leave your son behind without even a good
- 30:03Speaker 2: bye letter, I thought was pretty shitty form. And then
- 30:04Speaker 2: she comes back and then bails.
- 30:06Speaker 1: On him again. Yeah, that's kind of hard, and it's left.
- 30:10Speaker 2: With that moment of Homer just gazing up the start
- 30:11Speaker 2: sing and what if it was great for having to
- 30:13Speaker 2: get that closure of she didn't abandon me, but she
- 30:16Speaker 2: kind of did. Yeah.
- 30:19Speaker 1: I think the episodes sort of work hard to give
- 30:23Speaker 1: hers some justification for what she's doing. I mean, they
- 30:26Speaker 1: do their best to present Mona's case where they.
- 30:29Speaker 2: Put Burns as the big bad because he's the evil
- 30:31Speaker 2: guy of the show. He's the one big super villain
- 30:33Speaker 2: of the show. So of course, if he's coming to
- 30:35Speaker 2: get her, then other options that you have.
- 30:37Speaker 1: But still, but I think naturally our sympathies are going
- 30:40Speaker 1: to align with Homer's.
- 30:42Speaker 2: Right, of course they are. Yeah, yeah, And it's just
- 30:44Speaker 2: a shame because if she hadn't have made that decision
- 30:47Speaker 2: to go and do that germ warfare whatever was trying
- 30:50Speaker 2: to they're ruining Burns his germ lab or whatever. Yeah,
- 30:53Speaker 2: what life would he have had. When you watch Mother
- 30:55Speaker 2: Simpson the episode, you do appreciate Grandpa the character more
- 30:59Speaker 2: because yes, he's grumpy, Yes he finds a negative of
- 31:02Speaker 2: many situations, and he's old and he's just this that
- 31:04Speaker 2: and the other. But he stepped up. But he stepped
- 31:05Speaker 2: up to the plate and he actually did what was
- 31:07Speaker 2: best for Homer. And he might not have you know,
- 31:09Speaker 2: he might have been grumpy and yelled at him or
- 31:10Speaker 2: whatever and put him down, not being the most supportive father,
- 31:13Speaker 2: but he was the only parent he had.
- 31:15Speaker 1: Correct, And you'd like to.
- 31:16Speaker 2: Think he did his best. So is Monas Simpson a
- 31:19Speaker 2: bad mother? I'm going to say yes.
- 31:21Speaker 1: I think we'd like to say that Abe Simpson is
- 31:22Speaker 1: a good father.
- 31:23Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 31:24Speaker 1: I'm going to make this class half.
