- 0:04Hi, I'm Jeff Allen. Thank you for listening to the
- 0:06slippery slope. So the FIFA World Cup is
- 0:09currently being played out in Qatar and there's been lots and
- 0:13lots and lots of drama going on. It all seems to revolve more
- 0:18around the lgbtq+ issues in the nation, the fact that
- 0:23homosexuality is, is illegal in Qatar.
- 0:27It seems to be a bigger news story than the the football.
- 0:30Itself, which seems a little strange.
- 0:32But anyway, I want to run through a couple of Articles
- 0:34here and just talk about well, with this talk about bravery and
- 0:38what we consider to be bravery these days.
- 0:41So this first article came through today, after all, it's
- 0:46come here just after what's happened with the German Japan
- 0:49game? Now, the headline says FIFA make
- 0:52decision on Germany protest. Over World Cup, gesture over
- 0:56one, love armband. So FIFA Pierre.
- 1:00To have decided, they will not punish Germany for the gesture
- 1:03before their World Cup Clash against Japan in group E on
- 1:07Wednesday. So that made this gesture before
- 1:11the Japan Japanese the game against Japan.
- 1:13So the side were pictured covering their mouths.
- 1:17In reaction to the one love campaign armband being met with
- 1:22possible sporting sanctions. So the campaign was backed by
- 1:26several Nations National size to try and raise awareness. - of
- 1:30the lack of human rights for lgbtq plus people in host
- 1:34nation, Qatar, where homosexuality is illegal.
- 1:39Well, golly gee. So what's happened is the
- 1:42picture, the sporting players, you know, they've got them,
- 1:45they've got their their hands over their, mouths are covering
- 1:50their mouths in the gesture. So that's their their little
- 1:53protest. They made this picture took this
- 1:55picture before the game, may I suggest that maybe they should
- 1:58have focused more. On the game against Japan and
- 2:02then they wouldn't have lost. So miserably, so going on in
- 2:06this report, it says we can't put our players in a position
- 2:09where they could face sporting sanctions, including bookings, a
- 2:13joint statement from the sides read.
- 2:15So we have asked the captain is not to wear the armbands in
- 2:19game. So what they're talking about
- 2:20here, I'm going to go to another article, okay?
- 2:23And that is this article. Headline says, World Cup teams
- 2:27will not wear rainbow armbands after A FIFA threatens yellow
- 2:32cart. Got a threat for a yellow card,
- 2:35scary stuff. So they all back down.
- 2:38So going in it says seven, major European soccer teams backed off
- 2:43from their plans to allow their team captains to a wear armbands
- 2:47showing support for minority groups, including lgbtq
- 2:51individuals at the ongoing World Cup in Qatar, after FIFA
- 2:56threatened to issue yellow cards against players.
- 2:59Hi. Adding to Global bodies latest
- 3:02attempts to push back against efforts to draw, attention to
- 3:06Human Rights abuses and discrimination in the host
- 3:10country. Now, let's be honest, the only
- 3:14the only discrimination that the media really seem to care about
- 3:19is the Discrimination about the ability for people to sleep.
- 3:24With whomever, they would like to sleep with that seems to be
- 3:27the only human, right. You know, because apparently we
- 3:32all seem to be defined. Well, if you believe the media,
- 3:35and if you believe the lgbtq community everyone, these days
- 3:42is defined by by their sexuality, by their sex life, by
- 3:46who they choose or what they choose whom they choose to sleep
- 3:50with apparently that's what defines Us in every aspect of
- 3:55our lives these days. And the thing is that these
- 3:58football players were all being Bribed as you know, standing up
- 4:02for the rights of other people standing up for human rights,
- 4:05standing up for lgbtq rights, described as being brave, except
- 4:11as soon as they got threatened with the yellow card, The
- 4:14Bravery Slipped Away. They all started trembling at
- 4:16the knees, and it was decided, what?
- 4:19Maybe we can't afford to get a yellow card because it's all too
- 4:23scary. Who wants a yellow card?
- 4:26Yellow card made him tremble. But can I give you an example of
- 4:29actual actual bravery from a football team.
- 4:34This headline here, he says, Iran soccer team stages silent
- 4:39protest at World Cup. So Irene's top football player
- 4:44players are the latest public figures to show their support
- 4:48for the country's anti-government protests.
- 4:51The team refused to sing Iran's national anthem at the soccer
- 4:57World Cup in Qatar in a move that could see players arrested
- 5:02and jailed when they returned home.
- 5:05Now, my point with this is that this is actual bravery.
- 5:11Players stating that they want to put on a pretty colorful
- 5:15little armband and then backing down when they get threatened
- 5:18with the yellow card. That's not bravery.
- 5:20Okay. It's not bravery because there's
- 5:23nothing real on the line and as soon as they were threatened
- 5:26with something pretty, you know, pretty pathetic.
- 5:29Really a yellow card. They all back down because
- 5:33they're not brave. This is actual bravery at the
- 5:37moment. There has been there have been
- 5:41In Iran where people are actually losing their lives,
- 5:45people get arrested, go to jail, they get beaten up others, get
- 5:52killed, that's his bravery standing up for things that
- 5:57actually matter standing up and putting your life on the line,
- 6:02standing up against a tyrannical, government and not
- 6:06backing down, looking a tyrannical government in the
- 6:10eye. And saying you will not back
- 6:12down under threat of your own life.
- 6:17That is bravery this football team from Iran.
- 6:21They are brave. These are the little pathetic
- 6:24losers who came in and said, you know, we want to wear a pretty
- 6:27little arm band around their, pretty little arms.
- 6:29And then back down when they were threatened with a little
- 6:33tiny little yellow card, that's not brave, that's pathetic.
- 6:38Iran. That is bravery.
- 6:42That is something worth. While we need to stop describing
- 6:47things as being brave. When it's not, this is real
- 6:51bravery. This is something that they this
- 6:54is real ramifications. Real things on the line, going
- 6:59to take my hat off to these Persian players.
- 7:03This is just my opinion but we need to stop describing things
- 7:06as Brave and start using our language properly.
- 7:11True bravery from the Iranian football players.
- 7:16That's my opinion. Thank you for listening to the
- 7:19slippery slope.
