- 0:00SPEAKER_04: Welcome to Becoming Saiyans, a Dragon Ball Rewatch podcast.
- 0:06SPEAKER_01: And we're back.
- 0:08SPEAKER_01: I'm Truman.
- 0:09SPEAKER_01: And I'm Jesse.
- 0:10SPEAKER_01: And this is Becoming Saiyans, a Dragon Ball Rewatch Podcast.
- 0:13SPEAKER_01: On today's episode, we watch episodes 123 and 124 of Dragon Ball titled Lost and Found and Temple Above the Clouds.
- 0:21SPEAKER_01: Lost and Found first aired in Japan on August 17th, 1988, and in America on October 7th, 2003.
- 0:29SPEAKER_01: And Temple Above the Clouds first aired on August 24th, 1988, and August 8th, 2003.
- 0:38SPEAKER_01: Jumping into some differences from the manga and some trivia.
- 0:41SPEAKER_01: The first one is the reaction to Earth having been saved from King King Piccolo's rule is extended to add in stuff with Sunno, Android 8, as long along with Chi Chi and Ox King.
- 0:52SPEAKER_01: The scene with everyone at the Comet House is exclusive to the anime.
- 0:56SPEAKER_01: The scene with the elderly couple finding Piccolo just as he hatches is exclusive.
- 1:00SPEAKER_01: In the manga, when Goku returns to the area where the central city once stood, there's nobody there.
- 1:06SPEAKER_01: In the manga, there's, you know, King Furry, a bunch of reporters, all that stuff.
- 1:10SPEAKER_01: And the anime launch turned the power pole into a broom, whereas in the manga, it was just right where it was, as Nom though.
- 1:17SPEAKER_01: So some adding some small things to make them a little bit longer, make it a little bit easier to do stuff.
- 1:22SPEAKER_01: Um, in the manga, when Goku returns to Fortune Bob Teller or the Fortune Teller Baba's palace, not Fortune Teller, but Fortune Baba Teller's palace, you know, whatever I was saying.
- 1:32SPEAKER_01: He tells her to bring out her champions in order to get a free fortune.
- 1:36SPEAKER_01: For her to only find out that no one will fight him after defeating uh King Piccolo and giving it to him for free.
- 1:41SPEAKER_01: But in the anime, he just comes and she just does it.
- 1:43SPEAKER_01: Um Trivia, this is the first appearance of King Piccolo Jr.
- 1:48SPEAKER_01: He atta he hatches in this episode, and when Piccolo Jr.
- 1:51SPEAKER_01: is born, he is naked, but when we later see him, he has clothes with a demon symbol on them.
- 1:57SPEAKER_01: Piccolo's egg is found by a being found by an elderly couple is a parody of the Japanese fable Momotaro, the boy born from the from a peach.
- 2:07SPEAKER_01: In the story, Momotaro is born from a large peach which floats down a river and is found by an elderly couple with no children.
- 2:13SPEAKER_01: And that's how Piccolo is found as well.
- 2:16SPEAKER_01: Jebediah, who is Piccolo's adoptive father, refers to King Piccolo's egg as a childlike gift from the heavens or something.
- 2:24SPEAKER_01: In a similar irony to how tambourine was mistaken for uh uh you know Kame Sama and Terrible Tambourine is reveal revealed stuff in something something, and something something something coming forward with something something something.
- 2:37SPEAKER_01: As Goku heads off to Kameh house to retrieve his powerful, he is briefly shown wielding it on his flying nimb on the back wall on flying nimbus, even though he hasn't doesn't have it yet.
- 2:47SPEAKER_01: Probably just played it a little out of order or something, is my guess there.
- 2:51SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 2:51SPEAKER_01: This is the uh last appearance of Chi Chi as a kid, as well as her and her bikini armor, not counting flashbacks.
- 2:59SPEAKER_01: The uh this is the last episode of the Funimation dub where Laura Bailey uh regularly voices Chi-Chi, and the remainder of the episodes she is replaced by Cynthia Kronz.
- 3:09SPEAKER_01: This is also the last episode in the Blue Water dub where Katie Rowan regularly voices Chi-Chi, where she is replaced by Carol and Day.
- 3:18SPEAKER_01: Um Coran knew that King Piccolo had caused Maseroshi's death, but did not know about Shinron, even though that happened five seconds after.
- 3:27SPEAKER_01: In the Japanese version, Goku is healed up by medicinal herbs, which are had never been referenced again.
- 3:33SPEAKER_01: In the Funimation dub, it says that Goku was given a Sensu beam.
- 3:38SPEAKER_01: The cop who appears to arrest the escape prisoner in the saloon resembles Charmi Yamanda from Dr.
- 3:44SPEAKER_01: Slum.
- 3:45SPEAKER_01: And that's all of it for the first one.
- 3:46SPEAKER_01: So differences from the manga and trivia.
- 3:48SPEAKER_01: If you didn't think we're getting a lot of differences in trivia in these episodes, you were wrong.
- 3:53SPEAKER_01: But you were right about the second one, because there's like nothing on this list.
- 3:56SPEAKER_01: Um scene at Come House with launch fixing up Tien and all the reporters showing up is exclusive to the anime.
- 4:02SPEAKER_01: Um Piccolo's running with the family and the dogs that chase him.
- 4:06SPEAKER_01: It's exclusive to the anime.
- 4:07SPEAKER_01: In the anime, Goku says he'll use the same punch on Mr.
- 4:11SPEAKER_01: Popo that he used to defeat Piccolo and throws an axle punch.
- 4:14SPEAKER_01: But in the manga, Goku says nothing, though the image of the great ape is still shown in the attack is instead a chop.
- 4:20SPEAKER_01: Kame is shown to be watching Goku fight Mr.
- 4:22SPEAKER_01: Popo through a crystal ball, but he does not do that in the an or in the manga.
- 4:27SPEAKER_01: And then trivia, the one trivia is a couple and their son celebrate their son's birthday.
- 4:32SPEAKER_01: The boy's father shares a near-identical appearance to Pansy's father from Dragon Ball Curse of the Blood Rubies.
- 4:38SPEAKER_01: Movie that I have completely forgotten about at this point, and I was like, who the heck is Pansy?
- 4:43SPEAKER_01: Um, but that's all the differences and uh trivia we have.
- 4:47SPEAKER_01: So Jesse, previously on Dragon Ball.
- 4:51SPEAKER_01: Goku and Yajurobi make it to the top of Corns Tower and are healed.
- 4:56SPEAKER_01: As that is happening, the world is celebrating the demise of Piccolo, not knowing what is to come, which is that his egg hatches in a set separate plot, and he is taken in by a loving family and immediately killed by that, or immediately kills the loving family, and then is seen uh also killing another family, seemingly angry because he doesn't have a birthday or friends, is kind of what I got from it.
- 5:21SPEAKER_01: Um jumping into the other stuff, Bowlman and the gang go back to Kame House, where um, you know, launches putting together Tien and Tien and them have a little bit of a moment before reporters bust in, and they have to go and fight off the reporters, uh, with some oolong antics thrown in there just to make it extra fun for whatever reason.
- 5:45SPEAKER_01: Um but Goku goes on a fetch quest in the first episode to go find his power pole, finding out that that's the only way he can get to the castle above the clouds or the temple.
- 5:53SPEAKER_01: Um and he needs to get up there because maybe if he talks to Kameh, Kame can bring back the dragon, and the dragon he can bring back his friends.
- 6:00SPEAKER_01: Um in the second episode he does get up there to the top eventually, and he is fo he finds a mysterious man named Mr.
- 6:08SPEAKER_01: Popo, and they get into a fight, and by far I mean Mr.
- 6:12SPEAKER_01: Popo shows him how bad he is at fighting, how much more he has to learn.
- 6:16SPEAKER_01: And that's what you missed on Dragon Ball, Jesse.
- 6:19SPEAKER_01: Go for it.
- 6:20SPEAKER_04: I enjoyed these.
- 6:20SPEAKER_04: These are great tone setters for this next like 30 episode arc that we have going on.
- 6:26SPEAKER_04: Where it's just we're setting up that Piccolo Jr.
- 6:30SPEAKER_04: is still a problem, but he obviously has a ways to go, and we're setting up where Goku's training for probably the next couple episodes, I assume.
- 6:40SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah, minimum.
- 6:41SPEAKER_04: Yeah, like I I assume I assume a couple episodes here fighting with Popo and training with Popo and doing all that stuff with Tommy.
- 6:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 6:50SPEAKER_01: Uh and I personally am excited to get Mr.
- 6:54SPEAKER_01: Popo.
- 6:55SPEAKER_01: I love this silly dude.
- 6:57SPEAKER_01: He's so he's so like matter-of-fact in the way he talks, but it also just has a s such a silly voice.
- 7:04SPEAKER_01: Oh, I am Mr.
- 7:05SPEAKER_01: Popo.
- 7:06SPEAKER_01: It is nice to meet you there today.
- 7:08SPEAKER_04: There is one glaring issue with Mr.
- 7:10SPEAKER_04: Popo, sadly.
- 7:11SPEAKER_04: Yeah, unfortunately.
- 7:12SPEAKER_04: As you have informed me, this is one of the few things you spoiled for me.
- 7:15SPEAKER_04: It gets better.
- 7:17SPEAKER_04: Yeah, you you made it akin to like Jinx in the Pokemon anime.
- 7:20SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 7:21SPEAKER_04: Or just Pokemon in general.
- 7:22SPEAKER_01: Well, that especially in the anime though, because they had a they had a scene and uh a show that got banned, and like Jinx wasn't allowed to be in the anime for a while, especially in America, until they finally like lightened the skin tone to uh closer to a purple.
- 7:36SPEAKER_01: Yeah, they basically made Jinx purple.
- 7:39SPEAKER_01: Mr.
- 7:39SPEAKER_01: Popo gets a little bit lighter where he's not just like a pure blackface character.
- 7:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 7:44SPEAKER_01: Um like b pure racist character, I guess.
- 7:48SPEAKER_01: I know that that's a I know that's a thing that they like that is said about a lot about him, but personally, I think he's I just think I don't even think of that when I think of Mr.
- 7:57SPEAKER_01: Popo.
- 7:58SPEAKER_01: I just think Mr.
- 7:58SPEAKER_01: Popo, the silly guy, you know.
- 8:01SPEAKER_04: It's just like it on first viewing, it's hard to ignore exactly what they're going for.
- 8:08SPEAKER_04: It's like uh Mr.
- 8:09SPEAKER_04: Black from the from the Red Ribbon saga.
- 8:11SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 8:11SPEAKER_04: It's like it's hard to ignore that he's you know a pretty entertaining character.
- 8:16SPEAKER_04: It's just every time he's on screen, you have to be reminded, oh yeah, this came out in the eight he was writing this in the 70s and 80s and stuff.
- 8:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 8:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I just never think about it when it comes to Mr.
- 8:27SPEAKER_01: Popo because for me Mr.
- 8:28SPEAKER_01: Popo's just Mr.
- 8:29SPEAKER_01: Popo.
- 8:29SPEAKER_04: Oh yeah, having seen what he did that episode, like he seems like he's gonna be a pretty fun, semi-recurring character, because you know, uh he gets lighter throughout the rest of the series and stuff.
- 8:40SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 8:41SPEAKER_04: So I'm excited to see him.
- 8:42SPEAKER_04: He seems he seems really silly and and like a good guy.
- 8:46SPEAKER_04: It's just oh that first the moment he showed up on screen, I'm like, oh no, please don't.
- 8:51SPEAKER_04: I was even saying like, please don't tell me commie is a yeah, that's what I was gonna bring up.
- 8:54SPEAKER_01: Your first your first thing when you saw him was like, oh lord, don't let this be commie.
- 8:59SPEAKER_01: Um but before we get all the way to the end, mid, you know, middle to end of the second episode, we got a whole first episode to get through, Jesse.
- 9:07SPEAKER_01: And in that first episode, um, the first thing that we see is Goku getting driven off, and we have two plots, kind of three plots going on.
- 9:16SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 9:16SPEAKER_01: So, Jesse, before we get started, what plot do you want to tackle first?
- 9:21SPEAKER_01: We have three doors in front of you.
- 9:23SPEAKER_01: Door number one is Goku, door number two is Bulma and the Gang.
- 9:27SPEAKER_01: Door number three is Piccolo Jr.
- 9:29SPEAKER_04: Which way do you want to go?
- 9:31SPEAKER_04: I think we should cover all of the shortest plots, like the shortest plots first.
- 9:35SPEAKER_04: So we should go Piccolo Jr.
- 9:37SPEAKER_04: first, because it's kinda Yeah, I would say it's slightly shorter than like Tien and all of them, and then we get to Goku at the end because he is actually should be being the main character of a very large bulk of these episodes.
- 9:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 9:51SPEAKER_01: Um, and so and uh some of there is some crossover between these, but not really with the Piccolo one.
- 9:56SPEAKER_01: Piccolo one is completely offset.
- 9:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 9:58SPEAKER_04: And we kind of mostly talked about Piccolo, anyways, in your rundown of what happened.
- 10:02SPEAKER_04: Like, most of what you see of Piccolo is, you know, egg floats down a river, old woman flips out, Jebediah doing the thing our grandpa always warned us with just sitting too close to the giant TV.
- 10:13SPEAKER_04: Yes.
- 10:14SPEAKER_04: And then Piccolo burns their house down.
- 10:17SPEAKER_01: The one big note that I have is while Jebediah is watching the TV, he is watching like a special news article where they're like, specially brought to you uh the m docuseries we made about the boy who defeated Piccolo.
- 10:33SPEAKER_01: It mind you, that happened six hours ago.
- 10:37SPEAKER_01: Where how did they get the footage?
- 10:39SPEAKER_01: How did they find the time?
- 10:40SPEAKER_01: What is the script?
- 10:42SPEAKER_01: Who cares?
- 10:43SPEAKER_01: They fast tracked this crap immediately.
- 10:47SPEAKER_01: It was so fast.
- 10:48SPEAKER_04: If there is pot, if there is profit to be made, the news will be there.
- 10:53SPEAKER_01: But they fast track the crap out of this.
- 10:55SPEAKER_01: Normally it's like a retrospective a year or whatever.
- 10:58SPEAKER_04: Theoretically, they haven't even done the like oolong fake Goku interview.
- 11:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 11:04SPEAKER_01: Those were kind of happening at the same time on screen, like timeline-wise.
- 11:08SPEAKER_01: But the we know a young boy killed uh Piccolo.
- 11:12SPEAKER_01: We are making a docuseries about that boy, and it is out yesterday.
- 11:17SPEAKER_04: It's like, what if we started filming the last dance Michael Jordan thing, but we released it to the public after the first game of the season?
- 11:24SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 11:25SPEAKER_01: We released the full thing after in the preseason of the 9696.
- 11:30SPEAKER_04: You're just wasting our time.
- 11:32SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 11:32SPEAKER_04: No, and then obviously he burns that house down.
- 11:35SPEAKER_04: Presumably, we assume killed the couple.
- 11:38SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 11:38SPEAKER_04: If not, I mean he obviously ruined their lives.
- 11:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah, one thing to talk about about this is like the correlation between our main character and our main villain right now.
- 11:48unknown: Yeah.
- 11:48SPEAKER_01: Goku falls from the heavens, lands in a field with an elderly man, not a couple, but an elderly man, is taken in and is raised to be kind and good natured.
- 12:01SPEAKER_01: Piccolo, who is technically a clone of the original Piccolo, with like all his memories and stuff, is um found in a river or stream.
- 12:11SPEAKER_04: Or at least with, I guess we maybe not all his memories, but his his knowledge of needing revenge against Goku.
- 12:16SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 12:17SPEAKER_01: But, you know, he is born he's he hatches to an elderly couple out in the middle of nowhere, who's from what we can tell, are seemingly good-natured Ma and Paw Kent type characters.
- 12:30SPEAKER_01: They're an obvious allegory to the Superman Ma and Paw Kent.
- 12:34SPEAKER_04: Which I assume is what the original thing is also similar to the original Japanese.
- 12:41SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 12:42SPEAKER_04: I forgot, I forgot the like Japanese name for it.
- 12:44SPEAKER_01: But they, you know, it's very obvious correlation there, at least to my American dumb English person braid.
- 12:51SPEAKER_01: It's our reference points.
- 12:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 12:53SPEAKER_01: Um our reference point is that.
- 12:55SPEAKER_01: And there are, you know, Mom Pa Kent and the you know, Jabediah.
- 12:59SPEAKER_01: Jabediah by himself having that name.
- 13:02SPEAKER_01: A very obvious farmer.
- 13:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 13:04SPEAKER_01: Um, his wife is also like uh, you know, uh taking care of the land in her way.
- 13:10SPEAKER_01: It very is very much a one-to-one, as much as you can have in this situation.
- 13:16SPEAKER_01: Alien, found by humans, good-natured people, but instead of what happened with Goku and instead of what happened with Superman, what if Piccolo just kills them?
- 13:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 13:27SPEAKER_01: It's like, no, he he's not allowed to be good natured.
- 13:30SPEAKER_01: Um He's a bad guy.
- 13:31SPEAKER_01: We can't make you like feel feelings for the bad guy.
- 13:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 13:35SPEAKER_04: Not in this series, not in this show.
- 13:38SPEAKER_01: Um, and so like that is the first thing.
- 13:41SPEAKER_01: The second thing is is uh jumping jumping to the next part.
- 13:44SPEAKER_01: I'll let you kind of since I talked a lot during the recap about it.
- 13:48SPEAKER_04: Jumping to the next part, uh this is where you know we joked about you couldn't have feelings for the bad guy.
- 13:55SPEAKER_04: I I think I can like see droplets.
- 13:59SPEAKER_04: And I understand why they added this, because you said this was the the second episode stuff where he finds the family, kills the dog, all that.
- 14:06SPEAKER_04: You don't see him kill the family, right?
- 14:08SPEAKER_04: He just kills the dog and then presumably walks away.
- 14:11SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 14:11SPEAKER_04: Um but to me it feels like someone envious of like a familial collec connection.
- 14:22SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 14:22SPEAKER_04: Like watching the boy, who would be roughly probably the mental age that he is at in this form.
- 14:30SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 14:31SPEAKER_04: Having e-birthday, having a loving parent and family.
- 14:35SPEAKER_04: And he just decides, I'm gonna ruin all of this.
- 14:38SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 14:39SPEAKER_04: Throws a rock through the window, gets the family to react.
- 14:42SPEAKER_04: While the family's reacting, he completely trashes their kitchen table.
- 14:46SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 14:47SPEAKER_04: Like breaks the toy plane the the kid had gotten.
- 14:50SPEAKER_04: And then he runs away scared because obviously you're gonna run away when someone has a gun and a dog drawn at you.
- 14:55SPEAKER_01: Especially because also when he kills the dog, he doesn't seem to think that that's going to happen.
- 15:00SPEAKER_04: Yeah, he doesn't it it's very seems very obvious the way he reacts and like looks at his hands.
- 15:05SPEAKER_01: He didn't know he could shoot beams of energy out of his hands.
- 15:09SPEAKER_01: He seemed like, whoa, that's pretty cool.
- 15:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 15:12SPEAKER_01: It almost it almost feels like between the first episode where he's obviously evil and is plotting revenge on Goku, to the second time we see him in the second episode, somebody complet didn't get the memo that he's supposed to be evil.
- 15:28SPEAKER_01: Because in the second episode, he does just come off like a confused, like homeless kid, you know, or unhoused individual, where he like is scared, confused, feral-ish kind of person.
- 15:40SPEAKER_04: And if I remember right, you if from the first episode it didn't mention that him being found by the like the old couple was anime exclusive.
- 15:48SPEAKER_04: So that was ri that was actually what was written in some form by Tori.
- 15:53SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 15:54SPEAKER_01: The second episode they were like, Yeah, we understand what you wrote, sir, but like, nah, we're throwing that over.
- 15:59SPEAKER_04: But what about if we put in like it almost makes me feel like humanize this character?
- 16:04SPEAKER_04: Yeah, maybe there's a way, there's a thing where like Toriyama actually does have him turn good later, and he just doesn't sprinkle anything in for a while in the manga.
- 16:15SPEAKER_04: Like, well, this seems like a good place to throw it.
- 16:17SPEAKER_04: And it completely ruins the synergy between these two episodes.
- 16:21SPEAKER_01: These episodes feel like non-congruent to each other because of it.
- 16:25SPEAKER_01: At least the the the piccolo juice.
- 16:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah, the piccolo stuff.
- 16:28SPEAKER_04: Everything else, obviously, it follows the similar path.
- 16:31SPEAKER_01: But Piccolo feels like two separate characters between these episodes.
- 16:35SPEAKER_01: Because on one hand, you have evil, maniacal, laughing, heh heh heh, I will get you, and then jump to the second episode, no fear.
- 16:44SPEAKER_01: And how do you set the house on fire if you didn't know how you could shoot lasers?
- 16:48SPEAKER_01: You know, it just doesn't make any sense, you know.
- 16:51SPEAKER_01: Like, the two these two episodes are just like that they don't seem like the riders talk to each other.
- 16:58SPEAKER_01: It's not day.
- 16:59SPEAKER_01: It's not because we go from like evil conniving, blowing up, burning a house, to I'm scared of a dog and a shotgun.
- 17:09SPEAKER_01: The the the one the piccolo in the first episode isn't just gonna kill those people indiscriminately, no problem.
- 17:15SPEAKER_01: But the piccolo in the second episode is a better character because he's a scared child on the run by himself and doesn't know doesn't know he has powers.
- 17:25SPEAKER_04: It it it's almost like in between these two episodes he forgets everything that like he was born to do.
- 17:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's almost like he forgets what his p goal is.
- 17:37SPEAKER_01: Like it's almost like he forgets that, like, oh, I'm supposed to kill Goku and I'm ready for it and everything.
- 17:44SPEAKER_04: And it's just like it makes no sense.
- 17:49SPEAKER_04: I like the characterization of him, you know, maybe there's some good in him.
- 17:54SPEAKER_04: Because, you know, whenever there's good in a character, it means Goku's gonna try.
- 17:58SPEAKER_01: Um, and that there's maybe some like deep-seated problems with the original Piccolo.
- 18:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 18:04SPEAKER_01: That like he hardened in his millennia on Earth.
- 18:08SPEAKER_01: You know.
- 18:09SPEAKER_01: But now that he's a baby, those hard edges are a little bit softer and a little bit easier to maybe manipulate and bring, not manipulate, but you know, mold and morph manipulate as like the bad.
- 18:21SPEAKER_04: Stop from stop from becoming a warlord.
- 18:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah, maybe we can bring him back.
- 18:26SPEAKER_01: But that is not the what is shown in the first episode.
- 18:29SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 18:29SPEAKER_01: Um but in the second episode, it is nice to see like my my thought, my take on it is that he looks at this nice family and is jealous that they're nice.
- 18:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 18:42SPEAKER_04: He's longing for not just what this kid had, but what this family has.
- 18:48SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 18:48SPEAKER_04: You know, just just caring people, living their life, doing, you know, they're even if most of their day is taken up doing like farm stuff.
- 18:58SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 18:59SPEAKER_04: Or whatever.
- 19:00SPEAKER_04: They're hanging a farmstead.
- 19:01SPEAKER_01: They're not an emperor, but they're happy.
- 19:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 19:03SPEAKER_04: It's almost they're content with what they have.
- 19:05SPEAKER_01: It's almost like the more you get, the more you want, and the more you want, the more you keep, and the more you keep, the more scared that you get.
- 19:12SPEAKER_01: Power crust.
- 19:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 19:13SPEAKER_01: It's, you know, the more you know, maybe there's like a good allegory for a certain possibly trillionaire out there who, no matter how much of that he gets, it's not enough to fill the massive void in his heart that is missing from human connection and love.
- 19:29SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 19:30SPEAKER_01: But anyways, that was the C plot of these episodes.
- 19:35SPEAKER_01: Piccolo uh kills a dog and then runs off.
- 19:38unknown: Yeah.
- 19:39SPEAKER_01: So, Jesse, ready for the P plot.
- 19:43SPEAKER_01: Bulma in the game.
- 19:44SPEAKER_04: Bulma, Tien, Yamcho, Oolong.
- 19:47SPEAKER_04: I I feel like this mo uh uh focuses a lot on what Oolong's doing as well in these episodes.
- 19:53SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Oolong might be the might might be like the main character of the B plot.
- 19:58SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 19:58SPEAKER_01: Because he's the only one who has significant lines in both episodes.
- 20:02SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 20:02SPEAKER_01: The rest of them are supporting.
- 20:04SPEAKER_01: Tien has got a lot in the first or in the second episode, and Yamsha's got a lot in the first episode, but Oolong has quite a bit in both.
- 20:11SPEAKER_01: So he's like the guy.
- 20:12SPEAKER_04: Yeah, he's he causes things to happen in both episodes.
- 20:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 20:17SPEAKER_04: But like, so the the this the B plot kicks off with exactly where we left off in the last, you know, into the last arc.
- 20:25SPEAKER_04: Yamsha, Bulma, and Purple Launch have shown up to the battlefield and are trying to figure out what is happening.
- 20:34SPEAKER_04: Because they're like, oh no, Tien needs our help.
- 20:36SPEAKER_04: We should go there and fight.
- 20:38SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 20:38SPEAKER_04: And then as they're going there earlier in the last episode, they're like, oh yad yada, yeah.
- 20:41SPEAKER_04: This is everything we cover.
- 20:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Jiro B and Goku fly away, Tien or like drive away.
- 20:46SPEAKER_01: Tien is like barely hanging on with like a just a bit of life, it seems.
- 20:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 20:51SPEAKER_01: He is on life support.
- 20:52SPEAKER_04: He is and so it kicks off with them being like, Man, was that Goku?
- 20:55SPEAKER_04: I don't know.
- 20:55SPEAKER_04: Let's go figure out what's happening.
- 20:57SPEAKER_04: Maybe Piccolo's dead.
- 20:58SPEAKER_01: Make noise, Tien shows up.
- 20:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 21:00SPEAKER_01: And Tien shows up and be like, oh Tien, you're alive.
- 21:02SPEAKER_04: He's like, Yeah, I'm alive.
- 21:04SPEAKER_04: Please help.
- 21:05SPEAKER_01: Just barely.
- 21:06SPEAKER_01: And so then jump cut to my my favorite thing for a show or anything, anything to do, is instead of telling us everything that just happened, they instead say, Wow, all that happened?
- 21:18SPEAKER_01: That's crazy.
- 21:20SPEAKER_01: It saves so much time.
- 21:22SPEAKER_01: That is my that honestly, because of how good it was, if Mr.
- 21:27SPEAKER_01: Popo wasn't in the second episode, that is my best part because it is succinct, it's quick.
- 21:32SPEAKER_01: We now know that they are caught up with what has happened.
- 21:35SPEAKER_01: Tiene told them the whole story, and we're not.
- 21:37SPEAKER_04: Including the dragon is dead.
- 21:39SPEAKER_01: And everything well, he they already knew that.
- 21:41SPEAKER_01: He told them that like three times now.
- 21:43SPEAKER_01: But everything is told to them.
- 21:46SPEAKER_01: We know that they now know that Goku did kill Piccolo and that he's going off on a mission and he's safe and is He's gonna try to bring your friends back.
- 21:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 21:57SPEAKER_01: And it's just that is just amazing like I Love that kind of writing where you cut and it's like the next time you come back, oh wow, all that stuff happened.
- 22:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it was kind of crazy.
- 22:08SPEAKER_01: Anyways, moving on with the story.
- 22:11SPEAKER_01: It is so much better than a stupid flashback showing everything as Tien narrates over top of it.
- 22:17SPEAKER_04: Gosh, I was dreading that being the case, and it wasn't, and I was that made me just really because they pretty much jump cut all the explanation from Tien.
- 22:30SPEAKER_04: And then almost immediately is when you know Goku figures out and is like, oh, I need to go there for the power pull.
- 22:38SPEAKER_04: And Tien's like, yeah, I saved it, and then you have the pine the small panic, and then launch is like, oh, I made that into my broomstick.
- 22:43SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 22:43SPEAKER_04: It was like, God, come on, launch.
- 22:46SPEAKER_01: Come on.
- 22:46SPEAKER_01: In what universe are you like, that looks like I could stick a mop head on it or a broomhead?
- 22:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but it's you did tape it on.
- 22:54SPEAKER_01: It's like, what are we?
- 22:54SPEAKER_01: But anyway.
- 22:55SPEAKER_04: Well, if you're looking for a stick and the only other the only tree on the island are like palm trees, you don't really have a lot of sticks.
- 23:01SPEAKER_01: True.
- 23:02SPEAKER_01: But yeah, it was uh, you know, like it's just good, succinct writing, and like you said, the that when that happens is an uh immediately when Goku breaks in a bit like, no time, need stick, gonna go meet Kami, bring everybody back.
- 23:16SPEAKER_01: Bye.
- 23:17SPEAKER_01: And then they're like, wow, that was really fast.
- 23:19SPEAKER_04: I can't believe he's gonna do that.
- 23:21SPEAKER_04: Do you think he's actually gonna succeed?
- 23:22SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 23:23SPEAKER_04: And it seems like Tin and Yamsha at least somewhat.
- 23:27SPEAKER_04: Especially TN has some idea of at least knows of Kami.
- 23:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah, has heard the name, has heard the general idea of him.
- 23:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 23:38SPEAKER_01: But that is the first episode B Plot.
- 23:41SPEAKER_01: And like I said, it is expertly written for as far as I'm concerned.
- 23:45SPEAKER_01: It's very succinct.
- 23:46SPEAKER_01: We we just watched eight episodes of Goku and everything going on.
- 23:50SPEAKER_01: Tien doing stuff together.
- 23:53SPEAKER_01: We don't need Tien to then tell us everything we just watched.
- 23:56SPEAKER_01: Jump cut.
- 23:57SPEAKER_01: Oh wow, that was crazy.
- 23:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I know.
- 23:59SPEAKER_01: I don't he's might be the strongest person in the whole world right now.
- 24:03SPEAKER_01: And maybe in the history of the world.
- 24:05SPEAKER_01: And then Goku, psh, no time.
- 24:08SPEAKER_01: Where's my power pull?
- 24:09SPEAKER_01: Oh, it's right, oh, it's not there.
- 24:11SPEAKER_01: Mop, oh, my side launch.
- 24:13SPEAKER_01: Oh, my, I'm sorry.
- 24:14SPEAKER_01: Here we go.
- 24:15SPEAKER_01: Uh, okay.
- 24:16SPEAKER_01: See you guys, I'm gonna go save our friends.
- 24:18SPEAKER_01: And wow, I can't believe he's gonna go save our friends.
- 24:21SPEAKER_01: Call me.
- 24:22SPEAKER_01: Anyways, back to the A-plot.
- 24:24SPEAKER_04: And then the A-plot takes off, and then we come back into the second episode, in which we start the B plot off with launch has sneezed back to Blonde Launch.
- 24:35SPEAKER_01: Which is perfect for Tien because now Crush Launch is there.
- 24:39SPEAKER_04: Yeah, they they start flirting at each other.
- 24:41SPEAKER_04: Ooh long's like, ooh, dumpy, dun dun, dun, d makes them judg.
- 24:48SPEAKER_01: And then yeah, he all gets a big thing.
- 24:50SPEAKER_04: And then she chases him around with an SMG as the TV plays.
- 24:54SPEAKER_04: That Goku is receiving the Blue Star Medal, which is the highest.
- 24:59SPEAKER_01: They said it was the highest honor in the entire world.
- 25:01SPEAKER_04: Highest honor in the entire world.
- 25:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 25:03SPEAKER_01: You can't get more Mr.
- 25:06SPEAKER_01: America or Mr.
- 25:07SPEAKER_01: World than that.
- 25:08SPEAKER_01: He is he is getting he's getting basically the key to the planet.
- 25:12SPEAKER_01: He's getting like the uh the the Nobel Peace Plot prize along with like every medal of honor from every country all wrapped into one.
- 25:20SPEAKER_01: It's like a congrats.
- 25:21SPEAKER_04: You thanks for not letting us all die a horrible day death.
- 25:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 25:25SPEAKER_01: But they're like, oh man, how's he gonna do that if he's gonna go up to Kami?
- 25:29SPEAKER_01: How's it he's not gonna be able to show up for his award?
- 25:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah um and right at that moment the paparazzi burst into the house because they have found out that this is where he was at or has been, and uh Ulong, being like, Man, I wish I could be popular, transforms into Goku and pretends to be popular until he just can't help himself.
- 25:50SPEAKER_01: And he talks to the girl and he's like, Give me a kiss and turns back into pig.
- 25:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 25:56SPEAKER_01: And everyone's like, gross, he's not here.
- 26:00SPEAKER_04: Yeah, like at least he got caught and no uh no one thinks that Goku's Yeah, at least it wasn't like an elongated beeplot of like Hollywood or something.
- 26:09SPEAKER_04: He immediately gets screwed.
- 26:11SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 26:12SPEAKER_04: It's like from the moment he says, like, how about a kiss?
- 26:15SPEAKER_04: And he eats the pig nose and the piggy.
- 26:17SPEAKER_04: It's like uh the the boys in Pinocchio turning into donkeys.
- 26:21SPEAKER_01: Or like uh Odysseus's men in the Odyssey.
- 26:23SPEAKER_01: Odysseus's men in the Odyssey.
- 26:25SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 26:26SPEAKER_01: But it's just like it's very quickly happening.
- 26:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 26:29SPEAKER_01: But that is basically it for our B plot.
- 26:31SPEAKER_01: So, Jesse, you ready to jump into the main plot?
- 26:34SPEAKER_01: The main plot, which is really worse for wear from the Piccolo fight.
- 26:42SPEAKER_01: Um, and him and Yajurobi immediately make it to Kornstower.
- 26:46SPEAKER_01: It this is a thing that I've I noticed and will be cut continue to be a running thing as we move forward.
- 26:53SPEAKER_01: The first time somebody has to go through impossible trials to get to a cool, hidden, secluded place.
- 27:00SPEAKER_01: Cool.
- 27:00SPEAKER_01: The second time, little bit easier, not just Goku.
- 27:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 27:05SPEAKER_01: Nice.
- 27:06SPEAKER_01: Third time, we're just door dashing there.
- 27:08SPEAKER_01: You know, we're Ubering to the top of Koran's trial.
- 27:11SPEAKER_04: We've been there done that.
- 27:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah, we don't need to see them do the trial of climbing.
- 27:15SPEAKER_01: We know they can climb up it.
- 27:16SPEAKER_01: We know Yadurobi can climb up it with Goku on his back.
- 27:19SPEAKER_01: Like, we don't need to do that.
- 27:20SPEAKER_01: Yadurobi just turns his car up and just drives up the top of it.
- 27:24SPEAKER_01: Even though when we originally see Korrin's Tower, that is impossible.
- 27:28SPEAKER_01: It's been told to us it literally, like, something about it won't allow that to happen.
- 27:32SPEAKER_04: I I feel like the magic around having to climb it can't be turned on and off by Corinne himself.
- 27:39SPEAKER_04: Because, Ido, you're you're not supposed to be able to fly up to it.
- 27:42SPEAKER_04: But Goku has now countless times flown into the tower on the Nimbus Clean.
- 27:47SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 27:47SPEAKER_04: But it's including these episodes.
- 27:49SPEAKER_04: He does that later when he comes back with the power pole.
- 27:51SPEAKER_01: But it's just like it it almost feels just completely like the magic of this place.
- 27:56SPEAKER_01: Now that we've been here a couple of times, it becomes like a semi-regular okay location for us.
- 28:01SPEAKER_01: It is no longer special, so why do we need to worry about it?
- 28:05SPEAKER_01: It's just the place we can go.
- 28:06SPEAKER_04: Which is another interesting way of showing, you know, now that we've referenced power levels, so in this show, that's one thing I know about the show.
- 28:15SPEAKER_04: A lot of power levels, which it's a great way to show the power levels rising on average of all of these characters.
- 28:22SPEAKER_04: Of like, we're so powerful between Yajurobi and Goku that we don't even have to worry about the tower.
- 28:27SPEAKER_04: Like the tower just exists.
- 28:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 28:28SPEAKER_01: For me though, I'm going to ding this, like, the episode, this part of it, because it bot it bothers me later on too.
- 28:36SPEAKER_01: Because, like, the next mystical place that we unlock here is Kameh's, like, palace, temple, like, whatever you want to call it.
- 28:45SPEAKER_01: Um, you go to at the end of these episodes.
- 28:48SPEAKER_01: And you see that like Goku has to go through an impossible thing.
- 28:53SPEAKER_01: They distinctly mention you cannot fly to it because it is too high up, and that even like a if you tried to fly to it, you would get knocked out of the sky because they wouldn't let you.
- 29:04SPEAKER_01: And you have to travel this impossible standard up there.
- 29:09SPEAKER_01: And then eventually, not to spoil it, but this place gets so nothing burgered by the end that this is just where like bad guys go immediately to like attack.
- 29:19SPEAKER_01: They're like, that's the place where the the guardian or whatever is, I'm gonna go beat the crap out of uh beat the crap out of him, just immediately take him off the table.
- 29:27SPEAKER_01: Like, it's like so originally his power is so powerful that he can literally just no, and you can't get there unless you have special permission or a special way.
- 29:38SPEAKER_01: But if then we can just have people teleport there, you know?
- 29:42SPEAKER_01: It's like what are we talking about?
- 29:44SPEAKER_04: But it also, again, as in my argument, is the way the show that like power levels are evolving beyond the limitations of the planet.
- 29:56SPEAKER_04: No, the people who live here.
- 29:58SPEAKER_01: I understand that being bases are supposed to be special, you know.
- 30:02SPEAKER_01: Like, and it continues with even more out-of-pocket, like these are all on Earth.
- 30:07SPEAKER_01: Eventually we get to the point where there's special places not on Earth that are only able to get to by very special means, and then eventually we're just poofing in and out of these places, you know?
- 30:19SPEAKER_01: It's like in one episode, Goku is in all of them in about 10 seconds, and it's like they're not supposed to be that special.
- 30:25SPEAKER_01: Or they're not supposed to be that easy to get to.
- 30:27SPEAKER_01: They're supposed to be incredibly difficult to get to from place to place, and possibly long distances, and big trials.
- 30:34SPEAKER_01: And even though Goku is going to get strong enough where those trials won't matter to him anymore, it's still supposed to be like, you're not just supposed to be like, poof, there you are, you know.
- 30:44SPEAKER_01: It just and even take Goku out of the equation.
- 30:47SPEAKER_01: There's no way that like eventually, like, let's say, you know, Krillin is gonna be able to easily get to the top of that when he comes back.
- 30:55SPEAKER_01: He should have to go through all of these trials to be able to get the chance to get up there, you know.
- 31:00SPEAKER_01: I understand that like Goku's eighth time or Yajurobi's fifth time or whatever, he get they can just immediately be there.
- 31:07SPEAKER_01: But the first time should be special, and eventually it's just, oh, like, Tien is in town.
- 31:13SPEAKER_01: Well, he's now on wherever, you know.
- 31:15SPEAKER_04: He just shows up and then I get that argument.
- 31:18SPEAKER_04: Like it's more about the argument like like for the bad guys invading.
- 31:22SPEAKER_04: Well, if they're strong enough to want to invade Earth, they probably are strong enough to break through whatever protection Tommy has.
- 31:28SPEAKER_04: True.
- 31:29SPEAKER_04: Because Goku, Goku can't like destroy and take over Earth, and he was able to get through them with some difficulty as a child.
- 31:37SPEAKER_04: So like if a big bad evil guy from like Mars shows up and like wants to punch through the earth, of course he can get there.
- 31:45SPEAKER_04: Like those are the arguments for that.
- 31:46SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 31:47SPEAKER_04: I do get your argument about like, yeah, Krillin should have to go through it.
- 31:50SPEAKER_04: Or, you know, we should be able to see, maybe we don't watch him go through it, but we see like the remnants of like, oh yeah, he definitely got hit by a few pieces of lightning.
- 31:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he had to fight Mr.
- 31:59SPEAKER_01: Pope, though.
- 32:00SPEAKER_01: Like, he's all messed up, yeah.
- 32:01SPEAKER_01: That just generally that's what I'm looking for.
- 32:03SPEAKER_01: I get that in all.
- 32:04SPEAKER_01: And it just like once we've been there a couple of times, they're like, yeah, the special doesn't matter.
- 32:09SPEAKER_01: Like there's no special, there's no whatever.
- 32:11SPEAKER_04: I was in the neighborhood, so I thought I'd bring you a carton of milk.
- 32:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's just be a nice neighbor.
- 32:15SPEAKER_01: It's literally that, you know.
- 32:17SPEAKER_01: And mysteriously, you know who never shows up basically ever again?
- 32:22SPEAKER_01: Hoopa and Bora, even though they're directly underneath all of this, you know.
- 32:26SPEAKER_01: Like they do show up eventually at other points, but for the most part, like, people just show up and they don't they don't even go up the tower.
- 32:34SPEAKER_01: They just completely bypass it to Corns, you know?
- 32:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 32:38SPEAKER_01: It just to me, it just it takes away the bit of it that's supposed to be special.
- 32:43SPEAKER_01: You know, like it's these things are supposed to be like when you're first seen in like, wow, look at what all Goku had to do to get to this place, and then by like the eighth time, it's just a place.
- 32:54SPEAKER_01: You know?
- 32:55SPEAKER_01: And it's oh we're back to Tommy's house.
- 32:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 32:58SPEAKER_01: It's just a bit of like you lose a bit of the luster of the place that you're going.
- 33:02SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 33:02SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I first when you were like explaining it, I was like, oh, you're kind of just nitpicking, but then like you kind of clarified, and I was like, you know what?
- 33:10SPEAKER_04: No, I get to I get to on like everyone's first try to get there.
- 33:15SPEAKER_01: And I understand I brought up the bad guys, but like I like I can understand that there's a universe just threatening monster, they're gonna be a little bit stronger, or at least as strong as the as Kami.
- 33:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you know, but like event, you know, it just doesn't make a lot of sense for like Yamcha to just be able to fly to the top.
- 33:34SPEAKER_04: Yamcha, who becomes a meme by how much he gets just absolutely demolished by everybody.
- 33:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but like he's just able to like fly up to the top of the time.
- 33:42SPEAKER_04: Don't worry.
- 33:44SPEAKER_04: We can stop this guy.
- 33:45SPEAKER_04: Yamcha's gonna get the first try.
- 33:48SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 33:48SPEAKER_04: Like everyone's like holding back their left.
- 33:50SPEAKER_04: They're like, we're Yamcha's gonna do it.
- 33:52SPEAKER_04: And it's like, oh, and Yamcha's dead.
- 33:59SPEAKER_01: What's hilarious though is that Yamcha's like a thousand times stronger than 98% of anime characters.
- 34:08SPEAKER_01: Like, his power level is so high that 98% of the characters in all of anime, not including Dragon Ball, he is stronger than.
- 34:17SPEAKER_01: And he's as strong as like, you know, he's in that general area with the like with Dragon Ball, you know?
- 34:23SPEAKER_01: He's in like the top 2% of strongest characters in the history of anime.
- 34:28SPEAKER_01: And he is the lowest power level character in Dragon Ball.
- 34:32SPEAKER_01: I remember seeing a thing that was like, what if Goku just like appeared in other animes and he just shows up?
- 34:37SPEAKER_01: It's like, for most of them, it's just hi, I'm Goku.
- 34:39SPEAKER_01: You guys got a problem, I'm just gonna kill it.
- 34:43SPEAKER_04: He's just like, what is it from the watchman?
- 34:45SPEAKER_04: Yeah, he just snaps and then.
- 34:46SPEAKER_01: He just snaps and he's gone.
- 34:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 34:48SPEAKER_01: It's like he shows up into my hero, and it's like, shit, your Rocky's a bad guy.
- 34:51SPEAKER_01: I can't let him touch me.
- 34:52SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 34:57SPEAKER_04: I can't let him touch me.
- 34:58SPEAKER_04: Come mayo with it.
- 34:59SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 34:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah, come here, or you know, just straight up runs.
- 35:03SPEAKER_01: Whatever.
- 35:04SPEAKER_01: It doesn't matter.
- 35:04SPEAKER_01: He just immediately murders him.
- 35:06SPEAKER_04: Oh no, I accidentally sneezed and now he's dead.
- 35:09SPEAKER_04: No, I didn't mean to do that.
- 35:10SPEAKER_01: The video, the video actually has like the hardest one for him being like going to the Pokemon universe because he's so much more powerful, and the rules are so different that he has to lower his power level so much just to be able to train with the Pokemon.
- 35:25SPEAKER_01: Like he has to like mask his level below like his normal human level at that point.
- 35:30SPEAKER_04: Like a level 100 Pokemon, and he's like a level two, like a two-year-old go-goo.
- 35:34SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 35:35SPEAKER_01: It's crazy.
- 35:36SPEAKER_04: Oh, you're the god of this universe?
- 35:41SPEAKER_04: Yeah, you're not great.
- 35:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but they, you know, generally that like you know, back on to what we were talking about.
- 35:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 35:48SPEAKER_01: Like, it's just it's a thing that I have a problem with, but I can overlook it at this point because it hasn't happened all that much.
- 35:55SPEAKER_01: And the scene of him having to like the way he has to go about doing it, he needs the power pole.
- 36:00SPEAKER_01: He gets all the way up to the top, he has to climb up the stairs, which are always or the ladder, whatever you want to say, and he gets onto it.
- 36:07SPEAKER_01: And even Jesse recognized this, like, the the like look of the you know, of Kameh's pass.
- 36:15SPEAKER_01: He's like, This I recognize this a hundred percent.
- 36:17SPEAKER_01: This is osmosis through the through the ether to me.
- 36:20SPEAKER_04: Like, I I know this I know this battlefield.
- 36:23SPEAKER_01: So many people fight here all the time.
- 36:25SPEAKER_01: Which I'm like, Jesse, are you just talking about video games down?
- 36:28SPEAKER_01: He's like, Yeah, yeah, I'm talking about video games.
- 36:30SPEAKER_01: But it is like I've never watched it, but like I was like, I've seen people like play like Zenoverse and stuff like that.
- 36:36SPEAKER_01: Like, yeah, I know, I know this place.
- 36:37SPEAKER_01: It's a cool set piece.
- 36:38SPEAKER_01: It's like a comedy house style set piece, or you know, it's very regular.
- 36:42SPEAKER_01: The lookout type set piece.
- 36:44SPEAKER_01: Where when I see the lookout, I know it's the lookout from Dragon Ball.
- 36:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you know.
- 36:48SPEAKER_04: It it's really, I mean, it's designed to be a fighting arita.
- 36:52SPEAKER_04: Like, you know, how you don't make something that open with a house on the very end.
- 36:56SPEAKER_01: And another problem we have with this scene.
- 36:58SPEAKER_01: How do all those squares make a circle?
- 37:01SPEAKER_01: It doesn't make any sense.
- 37:03SPEAKER_01: Anyways, uh, we get to one of my favorite characters.
- 37:07SPEAKER_01: He's in probably like the top ten between, like, just not counting super, because I have a lot of thumb ones from Super.
- 37:14SPEAKER_01: But he's in like the top ten, not like just in Dragon Ball and in Dragon Ball Z.
- 37:19SPEAKER_01: Mr.
- 37:20SPEAKER_01: Popo is amazing.
- 37:21SPEAKER_01: He's so fun, and his first appearance is amazing.
- 37:25SPEAKER_01: He's like, Oh, uh, hi there.
- 37:28SPEAKER_01: I'm Mr.
- 37:28SPEAKER_01: Popo.
- 37:29SPEAKER_01: And he's like, I'm Goku.
- 37:31SPEAKER_01: Is that Kame's house?
- 37:32SPEAKER_01: Can I go meet him?
- 37:33SPEAKER_01: He's like, sure, if you can pass my test, lend one finger on me.
- 37:40SPEAKER_04: Beat me in a fight.
- 37:41SPEAKER_04: And Goku's being cocky, because you know he just killed the most powerful thing in the universe, in the world, I guess I should say in the universe, that Goku knows of.
- 37:49SPEAKER_04: It's like, oh yeah, I'll beat you real easy.
- 37:51SPEAKER_04: And then Goku just gets like, I I like, I was like, uh, Mr.
- 37:56SPEAKER_04: Popo, Kami is great.
- 37:57SPEAKER_04: Are you ready for the test?
- 37:58SPEAKER_04: And then like right before they have the fight started, I'm like, Mr.
- 38:01SPEAKER_04: Popo's gonna have hands, I bet.
- 38:03SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 38:03SPEAKER_01: And the thing is, is he's he's so nonchalant about it, too.
- 38:08SPEAKER_04: Like he's straight up just like disappeared, too.
- 38:12SPEAKER_04: Yeah, he can almost just be sitting like sipping tea the entire time.
- 38:15SPEAKER_04: Yeah, and just fighting them with one finger.
- 38:17SPEAKER_04: He's gonna be beating them.
- 38:19SPEAKER_04: Oh, he disappeared.
- 38:20SPEAKER_01: There he is.
- 38:22SPEAKER_04: Oh, good heavens.
- 38:23SPEAKER_01: Oh, good heavens.
- 38:25SPEAKER_01: Good lord.
- 38:26SPEAKER_01: You scared the birds away.
- 38:28SPEAKER_01: You'll never reach the house like that.
- 38:29SPEAKER_01: Your bad attitude will keep you from reaching him.
- 38:33SPEAKER_04: And it really is this another like wall in front of Goku of like, hey, remember, you're not supposed to fight mad or like frustrated.
- 38:39SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 38:40SPEAKER_04: And uh he's like he's like purpose-built, Mr.
- 38:43SPEAKER_04: Popo is to just aggravate the heck out of you.
- 38:46SPEAKER_01: Because he is he is almost as positive as normal Goku is, but in like such a monotone like a monotone British type British condescending way of like, you're doing great.
- 38:58SPEAKER_01: Almost at me.
- 39:00SPEAKER_01: You want to be quicker than that.
- 39:02SPEAKER_01: But um the uh the the the bit of wisdom that he gives him at the end is that he's like, You're you're exerting too much energy.
- 39:10SPEAKER_01: All of that power, and you cannot use it properly.
- 39:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 39:13SPEAKER_01: And it's like, oh, so this is like a teaching lesson for Goku too.
- 39:18SPEAKER_01: And we know it's a teaching lesson because the teacher is watching.
- 39:21SPEAKER_04: Yeah, Gami is watching on uh orb.
- 39:23SPEAKER_04: He's pondering his orb.
- 39:25SPEAKER_01: He's like, hmm, this Goku fella, he might be pretty good, you know.
- 39:30SPEAKER_04: I should figure it out.
- 39:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 39:32SPEAKER_01: And that's basically the episode.
- 39:35SPEAKER_04: Like it leaves off in the cliffhanger of will Goku actually land a punch or will Mr.
- 39:41SPEAKER_04: Popo throw him off the side of a cliff?
- 39:43SPEAKER_04: Like, Jogi leave throw him off the side of the cliff.
- 39:45SPEAKER_01: How long will it take Goku to talk to Kami is kind of the general cliffhanger.
- 39:50SPEAKER_01: Because we know it ain't happening immediately, but how long is it gonna take him to like figure out the the thing here?
- 39:56SPEAKER_01: You know, like when he was fighting, um when he was fighting Korrin, when he was learning from Korin originally, he had to like go through this trial where he had to learn a new way of to approach fighting so that he could win fights.
- 40:09SPEAKER_01: And that seems to be kind of where we're at now.
- 40:12SPEAKER_01: Like, obviously this the saga is called the Piccolo Jr.
- 40:15SPEAKER_01: saga.
- 40:16SPEAKER_01: Obviously that means we're gonna fight Piccolo Jr.
- 40:18SPEAKER_01: by the end.
- 40:19SPEAKER_01: Um we gotta get Goku to the point where he can beat Piccolo Jr., who is probably a little bit stronger than regular Piccolo, just because he's gonna live on Earth for X amount of years, you know.
- 40:31SPEAKER_01: That's generally like that's kind of where we're at.
- 40:34SPEAKER_01: We're in like a training before a big fight.
- 40:37SPEAKER_01: It's the training arc again.
- 40:41SPEAKER_01: I know we just had one of those, but it's time again.
- 40:44SPEAKER_04: Um it really is just like how many tries does it take for Goku to learn how to train by himself?
- 40:53SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 40:54SPEAKER_01: Will he learn the lesson in time to save his friends from their eternal slumber in the cryo chambers?
- 41:01SPEAKER_04: Study soon has quite a lot of time to do.
- 41:05SPEAKER_01: But he is dense, so we'll be able to figure it out.
- 41:08SPEAKER_01: Tune in next week on Dragon Ball.
- 41:11SPEAKER_01: And speaking of tuning in next week on Dragon Ball, you can also tune in next week to our show, as long as you download, especially if you download subscribe rate review and leave us a five-star rating if you think we've earned it.
- 41:21SPEAKER_01: But now with that out of the way, let's jump into our predictions section.
- 41:26SPEAKER_01: Jesse, what do you think?
- 41:27SPEAKER_01: You said that you were going to your predictions for the saga was that you're going the original bit of the saga was we're gonna learn about Piccolo Jr.
- 41:36SPEAKER_01: I would say you have gotten that one so far.
- 41:39SPEAKER_04: Yeah, like like we haven't fully, fully learned about him, but like we've discovered that he doesn't really know much about himself, or at least the writers don't know what to do about him.
- 41:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he doesn't know much about himself, but we know that there is probably plans with him, you know.
- 41:53SPEAKER_01: Um the next one you have was that Goku will teach him love with the strength of friendship, and then that Piccolo Jr.
- 42:01SPEAKER_01: becomes a good guy.
- 42:01SPEAKER_01: I wouldn't say you've gotten either of those.
- 42:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 42:04SPEAKER_04: Those are probably late.
- 42:06SPEAKER_01: Um but I'll give you the first one on the saga.
- 42:08SPEAKER_01: We'll go ahead and check that one off.
- 42:10SPEAKER_01: Um the next one, the one that you had for this one uh for this these two episodes was uh Yamcha and the gang try to find Goku, and then you said Temple above the clouds was possibly Koran's Tower.
- 42:22SPEAKER_01: That's what you said.
- 42:23SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 42:24SPEAKER_01: And I mean, neither neither one of those happened, but you know.
- 42:28SPEAKER_01: But you had lost and found, which again, without knowing that he's looking for a certain item, like it's kind of hard to get, but you are on the right track of like it's a lost someone's going to find something.
- 42:40SPEAKER_01: Something that is lost is going to be found.
- 42:42SPEAKER_01: Temple above the clouds, you didn't quite know because it wasn't expressly stating the.
- 42:47SPEAKER_04: Like, I guess I sh I guess if I really wanted to try to get it, I should have guessed like there was a temple above Corin's Tower.
- 42:55SPEAKER_04: Yeah that was higher.
- 42:56SPEAKER_01: But yeah, because even after you saw it, you you were like, oh yeah, that's what I thought, but it wasn't what you wrote down or what you told me, you know?
- 43:04SPEAKER_01: So I said, Yeah, that makes sense.
- 43:06SPEAKER_03: It's like, yeah.
- 43:08SPEAKER_03: I don't know why I didn't guess that.
- 43:10SPEAKER_01: But the next two episodes, Jesse, are in 125 and 126, Earth's Guardian Emerges, and Eternal Dragon Resurrected.
- 43:20SPEAKER_01: Jesse, what do you think are going to happen?
- 43:23SPEAKER_04: Well, I'm assuming Earth's uh what do you say, Guardian emerges?
- 43:28SPEAKER_04: Probably means that Kami is Earth's guardian.
- 43:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I kind of had already spoiled that while we were talking here.
- 43:34SPEAKER_01: It kind of slipped out of my tongue.
- 43:36SPEAKER_04: But he's the guardian of earth.
- 43:38SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 43:38SPEAKER_04: And then Goku is able to convince him to bring the dragon back to life.
- 43:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 43:43SPEAKER_01: Kami is the guardian of earth, Goku convinces him to bring um bring the dragon back.
- 43:50SPEAKER_02: Bring the eternal dragon, Shinron back to life.
- 43:54SPEAKER_01: Alright, we'll take those.
- 43:56SPEAKER_01: Um, so Jesse, moving forward.
- 43:59SPEAKER_01: What was Your worst part of these episodes.
- 44:02SPEAKER_01: Ooh.
- 44:03SPEAKER_01: Um.
- 44:05SPEAKER_04: I mean, there's not really anything.
- 44:10SPEAKER_04: I'm glad that there's not a whole lot that you can say is glaringly bad.
- 44:13SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 44:14SPEAKER_04: But you get to bring back one of my favorite points.
- 44:17SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 44:18SPEAKER_01: The perv moment.
- 44:20SPEAKER_04: Yeah, but say, like, that's really the only major candidate is just Oolong being Oolong.
- 44:27SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 44:27SPEAKER_04: Being like, man, we don't we we haven't had a perv moment since Roshi died.
- 44:31SPEAKER_04: Quick.
- 44:31SPEAKER_04: Oolong's kind of a perv.
- 44:33SPEAKER_04: Let's make him do it.
- 44:34SPEAKER_01: Roshi's dead.
- 44:36SPEAKER_01: Well, who else do we have that who else do we have?
- 44:38SPEAKER_01: Who else do we have?
- 44:39SPEAKER_01: Dr.
- 44:39SPEAKER_01: Briefs.
- 44:40SPEAKER_01: Dang it, we have a CMSOLong.
- 44:41SPEAKER_01: Oolong, that's right.
- 44:42SPEAKER_01: Uh duh.
- 44:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Oolong.
- 44:44SPEAKER_04: You'll be the one who does it.
- 44:46SPEAKER_01: Come on down, Oolong.
- 44:47SPEAKER_01: You're the next contestant on the perv is right.
- 44:50SPEAKER_04: Well, the perv is wrong, actually.
- 44:53SPEAKER_04: Sorry, my bad, my bad.
- 44:54SPEAKER_04: Um The Perv is right assumes that we're putting this as our best part.
- 44:57SPEAKER_01: I do not find that to be my worst part because we did spend about 10 minutes talking about my worst part, which is the complete incongruence between the first episode and second episode, Piccolo Jr.
- 45:10SPEAKER_04: Yeah, that's the other one.
- 45:12SPEAKER_01: Like you can take one, I can take the other, but like those are the two bad parts.
- 45:15SPEAKER_04: Those are the two glaringly like you kind of have to vote for them.
- 45:18SPEAKER_04: Because like they're the things we take the most offense to.
- 45:22SPEAKER_04: Is just like it feels so disconnected between the Piccolo parts.
- 45:29SPEAKER_01: They don't seem like the same characters.
- 45:31SPEAKER_04: That's the worst part.
- 45:32SPEAKER_04: That's the worst of the worst parts.
- 45:33SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 45:33SPEAKER_04: And then, you know, you have the oolong being a perv.
- 45:35SPEAKER_01: I just wanted to bring up a perv moment because we hadn't brought one up in about 20 episodes.
- 45:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 45:40SPEAKER_01: It was like, it was almost like.
- 45:41SPEAKER_01: Which is like good in a way.
- 45:43SPEAKER_01: It's a good thing, but it also is like, oh, we're losing some of the charm.
- 45:46SPEAKER_04: It's like like it's charm.
- 45:48SPEAKER_04: It's good because the last arc didn't really have a moment where a perv moment could have was in it.
- 45:56SPEAKER_04: Like, it would have been way worse last arc because it'd just be wasting time to make like a bad joke.
- 46:02SPEAKER_01: But in this out this part where we're able to have a little bit more leaven flow.
- 46:07SPEAKER_04: We're simmering down a little bit.
- 46:10SPEAKER_04: Like we're we're cooling off.
- 46:12SPEAKER_04: Yeah, this is kind of before you ramp back up to fight Piccolo Jr.
- 46:15SPEAKER_04: leader.
- 46:15SPEAKER_01: These two episodes were kind of like uh epilogue slash prologue to the next bit.
- 46:21SPEAKER_01: But like not until the point where we're we're not immediately plot focused.
- 46:25SPEAKER_01: They're very connected pieces.
- 46:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 46:26SPEAKER_04: Yeah, these are where we're shuring up, like, okay, Tien and all of them are back together.
- 46:31SPEAKER_04: Everyone has finally learned definitively that Goku is not dead, as we assumed he was.
- 46:36SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 46:37SPEAKER_04: And yeah, general like, you know.
- 46:39SPEAKER_04: The world has been saved and the world's celebrating being saved.
- 46:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 46:43SPEAKER_01: I just, yeah, um, uh these are these, like, that's what these are.
- 46:47SPEAKER_01: These are bridge.
- 46:47SPEAKER_01: These are bridge episodes, which are like, but they're good bridge episodes.
- 46:51SPEAKER_01: There are some bad bridge episodes.
- 46:53SPEAKER_01: Bowman's bad day was a bridge episode.
- 46:56SPEAKER_01: And that was a bad one.
- 46:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 46:57SPEAKER_01: Um pretty awful.
- 46:59SPEAKER_01: But um, Jesse, speaking of bad parts, let's do the opposite of that and go to our good parts.
- 47:05SPEAKER_01: What was your best part, Jesse?
- 47:08SPEAKER_04: Um, watching him get beat up by Popo is pretty funny.
- 47:11SPEAKER_01: Alright, oh, Mr.
- 47:12SPEAKER_01: Popo himself showing up.
- 47:14SPEAKER_01: Mr.
- 47:14SPEAKER_01: Popo's great.
- 47:15SPEAKER_01: Because he's so peaceful, but like he's also so powerful.
- 47:18SPEAKER_01: You know?
- 47:18SPEAKER_04: He's like, I will use my powers for good.
- 47:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 47:22SPEAKER_01: That was a horrible Mr.
- 47:23SPEAKER_01: Popo was.
- 47:25SPEAKER_01: You do better.
- 47:26SPEAKER_01: I will use my powers for good.
- 47:28SPEAKER_01: And uh.
- 47:28SPEAKER_01: Oh no, he disappeared.
- 47:30SPEAKER_01: There he is.
- 47:32SPEAKER_01: It's just great.
- 47:34SPEAKER_01: Um, I love Mr.
- 47:35SPEAKER_01: Popo.
- 47:36SPEAKER_01: Honorable mention to a couple of moments that we didn't get to mention while we were doing the thing.
- 47:40SPEAKER_01: When we get to Bulma and the gang showing up for tea at the very beginning of the first episode, they say, it's quiet.
- 47:46SPEAKER_01: And then, yeah, too quiet.
- 47:48SPEAKER_01: And then I said, and it's wet.
- 47:51SPEAKER_01: Too wet.
- 47:52SPEAKER_01: Which is from Fairly Odd Parents.
- 47:54SPEAKER_01: Um that was just a funny moment that caught me.
- 47:56SPEAKER_01: I was like, that's good.
- 47:57SPEAKER_01: Um, how cute Piccolo Jr.
- 47:59SPEAKER_01: is as baby.
- 48:00SPEAKER_01: He's he's a cute little baby.
- 48:02SPEAKER_01: Um, cute little cute, like ugly cute, you know, like he's so ugly that it's kind of cute.
- 48:07SPEAKER_03: He's the ugly duckling.
- 48:08SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 48:08SPEAKER_01: Um, other mention, TM, as he's like wandering around, and like uh we go to his perspective and it's kind of vision blurry, like it's kind of in and out.
- 48:18SPEAKER_01: I thought that was a cool effect to pull in those moments.
- 48:20SPEAKER_01: None of these are my best part, but I just wanted to mention some honorable mentions.
- 48:23SPEAKER_04: Just some nice just moments.
- 48:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah, some moments that I caught that I put in my that I just wrote in my notes that I thought were good.
- 48:30SPEAKER_01: Um the fact that Dog President or Dog King is back, it's great.
- 48:34SPEAKER_01: Love him.
- 48:34SPEAKER_01: Um I just keep wanting to say Dog President because it reminds me of like, you know, I think there was like a show or something on Disney Channel where there was like a joke about Dog President.
- 48:43SPEAKER_01: But um, and then that is kind of my I guess my best part is Mr.
- 48:48SPEAKER_01: Popo.
- 48:49SPEAKER_04: Yeah, there it's it's it's the most enjoyable part is like, okay, we gotta see something.
- 48:54SPEAKER_04: I do like just how how scatter brained Goku is.
- 48:58SPEAKER_04: It's like everyone's like, oh, we're gonna celebrate you.
- 49:00SPEAKER_04: I can't find my pool.
- 49:01SPEAKER_04: I can't find my pool.
- 49:02SPEAKER_04: Oh, I found my pool.
- 49:03SPEAKER_04: Goodbye, everybody.
- 49:05SPEAKER_01: It's like Goku's here, yay! No time.
- 49:08SPEAKER_04: Okay, roadrunner.
- 49:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 49:12SPEAKER_04: Meet meat, pull pull.
- 49:14SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 49:14SPEAKER_01: And uh, yeah, I mean, that's all we got.
- 49:17SPEAKER_01: As long as if you don't got any more notes over there, anything you want to bring up.
- 49:19SPEAKER_04: No, we covered everything, everything I kind of wanted to cover.
- 49:22SPEAKER_01: Alright.
