Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Welcome to a fall favorite encore episode of Three Bed,
- 0:04Speaker 1: Two Bath, One Ghost. This episode was recorded in 2023
- 0:08Speaker 1: and is part of our re-airing of some of our
- 0:10Speaker 1: favorite fall movies as we count down to Halloween, especially
- 0:15Speaker 1: with this weekend's airing of The Spirit of Halloween. We
- 0:19Speaker 1: hope you enjoy this review. Welcome to Girls Gone Hallmark,
- 0:32Speaker 1: a Hallmark review podcast. I'm Megan, a longtime Hallmark movie fan.
- 0:37Speaker 1: I'm Wendy. I'm your Hallmark, no, former Hallmark hater. Today
- 0:42Speaker 1: we're discussing Three Bed, Two Baths, One Ghost, which originally
- 0:47Speaker 1: aired on the Hallmark channel on Saturday, October 7th. Hey,
- 0:51Speaker 1: we'd love to be friends with you on Instagram. You
- 0:53Speaker 1: can find us at girlsgonehallmark.
- 0:56Speaker 2: Come join Andrew Walker in our Facebook group.
- 0:59Speaker 1: Hey, just joking.
- 1:01Speaker 2: People pretend they're these Hallmark stars, right? I don't know
- 1:05Speaker 2: if they're bots or what the situation is.
- 1:07Speaker 1: They're just like fan accounts. We have like seven Tyler
- 1:09Speaker 1: Hines following us on TikTok.
- 1:11Speaker 2: It's so funny.
- 1:12Speaker 1: Anyway.
- 1:13Speaker 2: Andrew Walker, and I say that in quotes, requested to
- 1:17Speaker 2: join our Girls Gone Hallmark Facebook group. We denied him.
- 1:21Speaker 2: But what was funny, what was funny is I shared
- 1:25Speaker 2: something about it on Instagram yesterday, and Andrew Walker himself
- 1:29Speaker 2: laughed at it.
- 1:30Speaker 1: He sent a little laugh emoji. I love it. I
- 1:32Speaker 1: thought that was funny.
- 1:33Speaker 2: Anyway, we're Girls Gone Hallmark in Facebook groups. Come give
- 1:37Speaker 2: us a join.
- 1:38Speaker 1: You know, the fake account is such a problem that
- 1:41Speaker 1: Hallmark at some point earlier this year, put out a
- 1:43Speaker 1: list of the official social media presences of all of
- 1:49Speaker 1: their stars.
- 1:50Speaker 2: Smart.
- 1:50Speaker 1: Because I think some of these accounts are nefarious. Yes,
- 1:54Speaker 1: and I.
- 1:54Speaker 2: Think their demographic could be easily targeted.
- 1:58Speaker 1: Yes. You know what I mean? Wink, wink, nudge, nudge.
- 2:01Speaker 1: Stop doing that, people. Yeah. Anyway. Don't take advantage.
- 2:06Speaker 2: Don't talk to people in the DMs if you think
- 2:08Speaker 2: it's Tyler Hines, because it's not.
- 2:11Speaker 1: Are you ready to talk three bed, two bath, one ghost?
- 2:13Speaker 1: I am. Synopsis first, right? Yeah. Okay.
- 2:18Speaker 2: A 1920s ghost refuses to leave real estate agent Anna's
- 2:22Speaker 2: new listed home. Worse, the spirit is convinced she cannot
- 2:26Speaker 2: pass over until she gets Anna back together with her ex.
- 2:30Speaker 1: Starring Julie Gonzalo, who plays Anna Jenkins. She recently appeared.
- 2:35Speaker 1: In a Girls Gone Hallmark review of Pumpkin Pie Wars,
- 2:38Speaker 1: in which we were a house divided.
- 2:40Speaker 2: Mm-hmm.
- 2:41Speaker 1: She also appeared, among other things, in a movie called
- 2:44Speaker 1: The Sweetest Heart, alongside her now partner and co-star in
- 2:47Speaker 1: this movie, one Chris McNally.
- 2:49Speaker 2: I know they're, now I know they're a real life couple.
- 2:53Speaker 2: I don't think they are married.
- 2:55Speaker 1: That is my understanding as well. And if they are,
- 2:58Speaker 1: it's not public knowledge.
- 2:59Speaker 2: Right.
- 2:59Speaker 1: They're like super private. Mm-hmm. And they had a baby
- 3:03Speaker 1: last year. Yeah. That's exciting.
- 3:06Speaker 2: Chris McNally plays Elliot. Chris is known for his role
- 3:09Speaker 2: as Lucas on When Calls the Heart. We obviously talked
- 3:12Speaker 2: about him earlier. He has 40 acting credits. Outside of Hallmark,
- 3:16Speaker 2: he was seen in Grease, Rise of the Pink Ladies,
- 3:20Speaker 2: and Firefly Lane, both from 2023.
- 3:23Speaker 1: Hey. You didn't know that, did you? Well, I didn't.
- 3:28Speaker 1: Me neither. Madeline Arthur plays Ruby. She was also in
- 3:32Speaker 1: the To All the Boys I've Loved Before trilogy, and
- 3:35Speaker 1: this was one of those moments when someone appears on
- 3:38Speaker 1: screen and you cannot go on until you know what
- 3:41Speaker 1: you know their face from. And this is such a
- 3:45Speaker 1: testament to the hair and makeup and costuming department because
- 3:49Speaker 1: I never would have made the jump to her as
- 3:52Speaker 1: Chris from the To All the Boys I've Loved Before series.
- 3:55Speaker 1: She's delightful on screen.
- 3:57Speaker 2: Yeah, I didn't know she was in that trilogy of movies.
- 4:00Speaker 2: I knew she played May in Devil in Ohio, which
- 4:04Speaker 2: is a Netflix show, I think. She was also in
- 4:08Speaker 2: that series you liked called Blockbuster.
- 4:12Speaker 1: I did not enjoy that series. Oh, I'm sorry.
- 4:14Speaker 2: That series you watched called Blockbuster?
- 4:16Speaker 1: I wanted to like it because I love a soothing sitcom.
- 4:22Speaker 1: I watched the first couple of episodes. I couldn't finish it.
- 4:24Speaker 1: I'm so sorry. Wanted to love it. Did not.
- 4:31Speaker 2: The story is by Greg Rossen and Brian Sawyer. The
- 4:35Speaker 2: teleplay was written by both Greg Rossen, Brian Sawyer, and
- 4:39Speaker 2: Joelle Bakken.
- 4:40Speaker 1: Yes, ma'am.
- 4:42Speaker 2: Greg Rossen has written a ton of Hallmark movies, including
- 4:45Speaker 2: recently The Professional Bridesmaid, The Winter Palace, The Santa Steakout.
- 4:50Speaker 1: And so many more. In fact, his.
- 4:53Speaker 2: IMDb reads like he's only written Hallmark movies.
- 4:56Speaker 1: Well, I did a little bit of a deep dive
- 4:58Speaker 1: because Greg Rossen and Brian Sawyer are co-writers. Yes. And
- 5:02Speaker 1: they share 38 writing credits. Brian Sawyer has exactly one
- 5:07Speaker 1: writing credit not shared by Greg, which is Tex, the
- 5:09Speaker 1: passive-aggressive gunslinger. And these dudes write a lot of Hallmark. Yeah,
- 5:15Speaker 1: that's so interesting to me. Mm-hmm.
- 5:17Speaker 2: Jawah Bakken, one of our favorite Hallmark writers. Oh.
- 5:22Speaker 1: She's one of my favorite Hallmark writers. I don't want
- 5:24Speaker 1: to speak for you.
- 5:25Speaker 2: But her next Hallmark film is the Tyler Hines movie,
- 5:27Speaker 2: Never Been Christ.
- 5:28Speaker 1: This was directed by Kevin Fair, who has 42 directing credits,
- 5:32Speaker 1: tons of Hallmark, including Girls Gone Hallmark, Fave, Taken a
- 5:35Speaker 1: Shot at Love. Oh, man. That was from the early days.
- 5:40Speaker 1: The early days. For us.
- 5:42Speaker 2: Yes. This movie was filmed from June 12th to June
- 5:47Speaker 2: 30th in 2023. The rural estate used is known as
- 5:52Speaker 2: Copperstone Mansion. It's located in Langley. Other television shows like Riverdale,
- 5:58Speaker 2: Bates Motel, Supernatural have all used this property to film. Yeah,
- 6:03Speaker 2: it's a real house.
- 6:04Speaker 1: Indeed. As of the recording of this episode, this movie
- 6:07Speaker 1: has a 7.4 out of 10 rating on IMDb, which
- 6:10Speaker 1: is an incredibly high rating for a Hallmark movie if
- 6:13Speaker 1: it can break out. Into the Sevens, that's a great
- 6:17Speaker 1: rating in the Hallmark world.
- 6:18Speaker 2: Do you think that's because this was unlike many other
- 6:24Speaker 2: Hallmark movies?
- 6:25Speaker 1: I think, yes, the departure from form. I also think
- 6:31Speaker 1: it is one of the– I would call this like
- 6:34Speaker 1: new Hallmark, right? Like this is current day moving forward Hallmark,
- 6:39Speaker 1: but without– hot button issues that some of the trolls
- 6:43Speaker 1: come out against. Interesting. So it managed to be like
- 6:46Speaker 1: forward thinking, but cautiously so. Yes.
- 6:49Speaker 2: Yes.
- 6:50Speaker 1: Let's talk first impressions. My first impression is this ghost
- 6:53Speaker 1: breaks all the ghost rules. Oh, we're going to have
- 6:57Speaker 1: to hear more about that. Okay.
- 6:59Speaker 2: Mine was, this is nothing like I imagined it would be. Oh,
- 7:04Speaker 2: I was expecting like a ghosty hijinks. I don't know.
- 7:10Speaker 1: There was some ghosty hijinks. Some, but it.
- 7:13Speaker 2: Didn't rely heavily on it. So anyway, we'll talk more
- 7:17Speaker 2: about that.
- 7:17Speaker 1: All right. What did you like? Well, okay.
- 7:19Speaker 2: We'll just get right into it. I was truly expecting
- 7:22Speaker 2: something else. Like I said, ghost and hijinks.
- 7:25Speaker 1: Don't watch the CBS series Ghosts. Lots of that. It's
- 7:30Speaker 1: a great adaptation, but you'd hate it.
- 7:33Speaker 2: You know, like hijinks is like my nemesis.
- 7:37Speaker 1: Is that right? Yeah. Yeah. What's this? Superman Kryptonite?
- 7:42Speaker 2: Yes. Yeah. But what we got was a really lovely
- 7:47Speaker 2: story about friendship and two women helping each other.
- 7:50Speaker 1: Yeah. I thought it was great. I agree. This movie,
- 7:59Speaker 1: I have to say, the title of this movie made
- 8:02Speaker 1: me nervous. Like, I was just worried that it was
- 8:06Speaker 1: going to be... Silly. Maybe a throwaway. Wedged in right
- 8:12Speaker 1: before Countdown to Christmas. It's, in my opinion, one of
- 8:15Speaker 1: the best movies of the year. Maybe the best. I
- 8:18Speaker 1: need to look back over what we've seen. I thought
- 8:21Speaker 1: it was fantastic. Particularly the two female leads. Look, Julie
- 8:27Speaker 1: Gonzalo can act circles around all of her co-stars in
- 8:31Speaker 1: every movie she's in. But Madeline Arthur, my notes say
- 8:34Speaker 1: Madeline Arthur, Madeline Arthur, Madeline Arthur is such a a
- 8:38Speaker 1: star in this movie. As Ruby, I loved her so much.
- 8:43Speaker 1: I agree. Unfortunately, I think she might be one and
- 8:46Speaker 1: done for Hallmark. Do you think she was too typecast?
- 8:51Speaker 2: No, I just think she's on the rise. I don't
- 8:53Speaker 2: think Hallmark is going to be her playground.
- 8:58Speaker 1: I think that's a good point.
- 9:00Speaker 2: Which is unfortunate because I remember there was another gal,
- 9:03Speaker 2: and I can't remember her name, but she was in
- 9:04Speaker 2: one of the Wedding Bell movies. And I thought she
- 9:07Speaker 2: was such a standout, too, and haven't seen her in
- 9:09Speaker 2: anything else either. You know, I just feel like some
- 9:12Speaker 2: of these actors who may just be taking a job
- 9:16Speaker 2: because they need a job, but really outshine.
- 9:21Speaker 1: Right. Like Hallmark had those waivers, so they were able
- 9:23Speaker 1: to take this job. Yeah. Yeah.
- 9:26Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 9:27Speaker 1: I don't know. She was great, though. She's great. She's great.
- 9:31Speaker 2: I really like the other cast, too. I thought Chris
- 9:34Speaker 2: McNally was great. I don't think I've ever– I can't
- 9:39Speaker 2: recall a movie I've watched him in.
- 9:41Speaker 1: Well, we did watch The Sweetest Heart over the weekend
- 9:44Speaker 1: because it came on right after this movie. And we
- 9:48Speaker 1: were out of town. So what do you do when
- 9:50Speaker 1: you don't have all your apps? You watch live TV.
- 9:53Speaker 1: I did not watch the whole thing. But I enjoy
- 9:56Speaker 1: him on screen. And I do believe that's the movie.
- 10:00Speaker 1: in which these two actors met.
- 10:02Speaker 2: Oh, they were both in that movie?
- 10:04Speaker 1: They were in that movie together, yes. Oh, that's nice. Yeah,
- 10:07Speaker 1: I enjoyed him on screen. I can see why people
- 10:10Speaker 1: are drawn to him in When Calls the Heart. You
- 10:12Speaker 1: know who I.
- 10:12Speaker 2: Didn't like in this movie, though? And I'm just going
- 10:14Speaker 2: to throw it here. I did not care for the
- 10:17Speaker 2: dad character or the other Medellin real estate agent, Terrence.
- 10:23Speaker 2: I just, like, get out of here with your, like,
- 10:26Speaker 2: toxic masculinity.
- 10:28Speaker 1: Yeah. Terrence sucks and he's supposed to suck. I'm not
- 10:32Speaker 1: sure the dad's supposed to suck and he does anyway.
- 10:35Speaker 1: He does suck.
- 10:37Speaker 2: It's the way he treats his daughter to me.
- 10:41Speaker 1: Like, he's like, oh.
- 10:42Speaker 2: Like, he's very dismissive of her. And then, like, gives
- 10:46Speaker 2: her this big job and then takes it away because
- 10:48Speaker 2: she can't handle it.
- 10:49Speaker 1: But, like, based on what? He's wanting her to fail,
- 10:53Speaker 1: it feels like. He basically has decided that she doesn't
- 10:58Speaker 1: have it to do this job.
- 11:00Speaker 2: Yes.
- 11:00Speaker 1: He wants her to prove herself to him. But already
- 11:03Speaker 1: in the back of his mind is thinking, eh, it's
- 11:06Speaker 1: not really going to work. Like, I'm going to have
- 11:08Speaker 1: to swoop in and I've got... Terrence on the back burner.
- 11:12Speaker 1: If you can't hack it. Yeah. I just hated that.
- 11:15Speaker 2: And Terrence, like the whole scene where it was such
- 11:18Speaker 2: a cute scene where she's like dancing, she's dancing with Ruby.
- 11:21Speaker 2: Obviously Terrence doesn't see Ruby and he like films her
- 11:27Speaker 2: with his phone. He's like, Oh, she's nuts or whatever.
- 11:30Speaker 2: I was like, because a girl can't dance alone in
- 11:33Speaker 2: a room.
- 11:33Speaker 1: Like, yeah, she's having a good time. Stop that. Just, I,
- 11:39Speaker 1: Hated the two other dudes in this movie.
- 11:40Speaker 2: Sure.
- 11:40Speaker 1: And there are some moments like when she's having a
- 11:42Speaker 1: conversation with the ghost in a restaurant. That might strike
- 11:46Speaker 1: you as odd. But dancing, no. Right. The writing was
- 11:50Speaker 1: really fresh in this movie. And it's no surprise to
- 11:54Speaker 1: me that Joelle Botkin was a writer on this movie.
- 11:58Speaker 1: We've pointed out before she's known for writing complicated relationships.
- 12:02Speaker 1: This is absolutely true to form. I loved lines like
- 12:06Speaker 1: women can be whatever they want. like president of the
- 12:08Speaker 1: United States? Not that yet. I just loved it.
- 12:13Speaker 2: I have another favorite line. Can I share it? It's
- 12:17Speaker 2: when Anna asks Ruby to go on a drive to
- 12:19Speaker 2: see the 2020s. And Ruby says, as long as it's, wait,
- 12:24Speaker 2: let me say, as long as it's still a joyous
- 12:26Speaker 2: era of packed dance halls, celebrating national unity and drinking
- 12:30Speaker 2: from a collective punch bowl. And Anna makes this face like,
- 12:35Speaker 2: okay I just thought it was so funny agree I
- 12:40Speaker 2: loved the 1920s party scene at the beginning of the
- 12:44Speaker 2: movie yeah especially the dancing and the music I just
- 12:48Speaker 2: loved it I was wondering if there was like a
- 12:51Speaker 2: choreographer that worked on this who helped do those dance
- 12:55Speaker 2: scenes or if that was something that they like just
- 12:57Speaker 2: did on the fly or what.
- 12:59Speaker 1: Well speaking of the dancing my husband has a Christmas
- 13:02Speaker 1: book it's like a Picture a gas station with a boutique.
- 13:06Speaker 1: You know what I'm talking about. You would find it there.
- 13:08Speaker 1: And it's got like fun facts about Christmas through the years.
- 13:12Speaker 1: And apparently in 1923, according to this gas station boutique
- 13:18Speaker 1: Christmas book, that is the origin of the Charleston in
- 13:21Speaker 1: 1923 and kind of launched like the flapper dancing craze.
- 13:26Speaker 1: And so as it starts, he goes, oh, he has
- 13:29Speaker 1: this in the back of his mind. I wonder if
- 13:31Speaker 1: this is to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Charleston.
- 13:33Speaker 1: And then they kind of, it's from this, it's set
- 13:38Speaker 1: in 1923. I just thought it was so funny that
- 13:40Speaker 1: there was that tie in there. Yeah. And on another note,
- 13:45Speaker 1: I mentioned this ghost breaks the rules. Look, ghosts classically
- 13:49Speaker 1: are stuck in the clothing in which they died in. Okay. Yeah.
- 13:53Speaker 1: She can change her clothes. She can also manipulate physical objects,
- 13:57Speaker 1: which I find wild. I'm willing to let all of
- 14:00Speaker 1: that go because I think it makes the movie more
- 14:01Speaker 1: interesting to have her constantly like fresh faced and in
- 14:04Speaker 1: a new outfit and putting makeup on. Julie Gonzalo, which
- 14:09Speaker 1: doesn't make any sense because she's a ghost who can
- 14:12Speaker 1: touch things but not people. Anyway. I love that scene,
- 14:16Speaker 1: by the way. I did, too. And I loved her many,
- 14:20Speaker 1: many outfits. And I think it adds to the movie
- 14:22Speaker 1: to just let nebulous ghost rules go.
- 14:27Speaker 2: Yeah, because who made those rules?
- 14:32Speaker 1: Right? I don't know. Who says a ghost can't move something? Correct.
- 14:37Speaker 2: I love that scene where she's putting the makeup on her.
- 14:39Speaker 2: There was something so tender about it. I just thought
- 14:43Speaker 2: it was so sweet. One more scene I really liked
- 14:46Speaker 2: was the slow dance between Anna and Elliot. And I
- 14:49Speaker 2: really felt the chemistry between them. Obviously, they're a real
- 14:52Speaker 2: life couple, but I was quite moved by Elliot's reluctance
- 14:56Speaker 2: to go there again with Anna.
- 15:00Speaker 1: So good.
- 15:02Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 15:02Speaker 1: Do you think It works in their favor that they're
- 15:04Speaker 1: playing a couple that has history as opposed to a
- 15:08Speaker 1: couple meeting and falling in love.
- 15:11Speaker 2: That's an interesting question because... Can we move on to wished?
- 15:15Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 15:17Speaker 2: I kind of wish that they weren't ex-fiances.
- 15:20Speaker 1: Oh, you wanted them to be like new love. Yeah.
- 15:24Speaker 2: I can't pinpoint why exactly other than like, I don't
- 15:28Speaker 2: believe this because... ex-fiances feels very messy.
- 15:34Speaker 1: You know what I mean?
- 15:35Speaker 2: And they did have some baggage, but it was a
- 15:39Speaker 2: little unclear of like what exactly happened.
- 15:42Speaker 1: And so I think.
- 15:46Speaker 2: Maybe it would have been better if like they had
- 15:48Speaker 2: just met, like maybe she hired him to work on
- 15:51Speaker 2: the house or something like that. But then that changes
- 15:54Speaker 2: the whole trajectory of the story. Yeah. Yeah.
- 15:58Speaker 1: I agree that it didn't seem like there was some
- 16:00Speaker 1: big blow up that ended their relationship. I almost believed
- 16:04Speaker 1: it more though because I think that's real that relationships
- 16:09Speaker 1: when they're not being nurtured fall apart. And it seemed
- 16:13Speaker 1: like they had a conversation where she apologized for not
- 16:16Speaker 1: really being putting in the effort that was needed. And
- 16:19Speaker 1: he later does too. I think that, I don't know,
- 16:22Speaker 1: it felt real to me that that could happen, that
- 16:24Speaker 1: these two people weren't really on the same page because
- 16:27Speaker 1: they were just living life and not really focused on
- 16:32Speaker 1: each other's needs.
- 16:34Speaker 2: But do you think they accomplished that by the end
- 16:37Speaker 2: of the movie?
- 16:38Speaker 1: It's so hard because if they had just, to me,
- 16:41Speaker 1: the better relationship in this movie is, Is, of course,
- 16:46Speaker 1: Anna and Ruby. Yes. I'm more interested in that friendship.
- 16:49Speaker 1: A hundred percent. So the idea of them just having
- 16:53Speaker 1: met and maybe starting a romance, in my mind, I'm like, oh,
- 16:56Speaker 1: they don't need to fall in love over the course
- 16:57Speaker 1: of the two weeks in order to get this house
- 16:59Speaker 1: ready for the open house. On the other hand, the
- 17:03Speaker 1: bigger relationship is Anna and Ruby. So maybe it's okay
- 17:07Speaker 1: if we have, I would be okay with that love story.
- 17:10Speaker 1: I don't know. Yeah.
- 17:11Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 17:12Speaker 1: Their relationship was secondary to me, though. I agree. I agree.
- 17:17Speaker 1: So I don't have a lot of wishes for this movie,
- 17:19Speaker 1: but I have a tangentially related wish. I've mentioned this
- 17:23Speaker 1: movie before. It is called The Spirit of Christmas. It
- 17:26Speaker 1: stars Jen Lilly. It is about an old house that she...
- 17:31Speaker 1: I'm fuzzy on the details. It's been several years. But
- 17:35Speaker 1: she has to get this house ready to sell. And
- 17:37Speaker 1: it is also haunted. Of course, she falls in love
- 17:40Speaker 1: with this ghost. My wish is for either you to
- 17:44Speaker 1: watch it on your own or for us to consider
- 17:46Speaker 1: a future review of this movie post-holiday season because our
- 17:50Speaker 1: schedule is packed because I think we really need to
- 17:52Speaker 1: talk about this movie. It's a classic.
- 17:56Speaker 2: There's so many problems with just the synopsis of it.
- 17:59Speaker 2: How do you fall in love with a ghost? Like,
- 18:00Speaker 2: what kind of future do you have?
- 18:02Speaker 1: Well, that's how the movie ends. That's the wild part.
- 18:06Speaker 2: I kind of understand, like, the friendship between Anna and Ruby.
- 18:10Speaker 1: Yes.
- 18:11Speaker 2: Like, she's trying to get her to pass on Yes.
- 18:15Speaker 1: You know what I mean? Yes. Of course. This movie
- 18:17Speaker 1: is significantly better. I'm not suggesting The Spirit of Christmas
- 18:21Speaker 1: is in any way a better movie. I'm saying you simply,
- 18:24Speaker 1: it's from 2015 starring Jen Lilly. That's all you need
- 18:28Speaker 1: to know. I mean. Her co-star was so hot.
- 18:34Speaker 2: Oh, okay.
- 18:34Speaker 1: I haven't seen him in anything else. Okay. I'm open
- 18:37Speaker 1: to it sometime in the new year.
- 18:40Speaker 2: Yes. I have one more wish. Yes.
- 18:43Speaker 1: I needed more backstory. Okay.
- 18:45Speaker 2: Like, for example, why did Anna and Elliot dissolve their business?
- 18:50Speaker 1: What was their business? Why did they call off their engagement?
- 18:53Speaker 2: Ruby died in a car crash on her 25th birthday. How?
- 18:56Speaker 2: Was she chasing after Charlie? Why didn't Anna's dad like Elliot? Like,
- 19:01Speaker 2: I need a lot of questions answered.
- 19:04Speaker 1: I agree with all of that. And the Ruby storyline
- 19:08Speaker 1: with Charlie was so unclear to me because obviously you
- 19:11Speaker 1: see him arrive at her party. She sends him away because...
- 19:15Speaker 1: all the expectations of her family and then when you
- 19:18Speaker 1: come to find out that they were engaged but she
- 19:23Speaker 1: sends him away but her family doesn't approve i do
- 19:27Speaker 1: feel like we could have gotten more out of this movie.
- 19:30Speaker 2: I think so too especially with some of those.
- 19:32Speaker 1: Little details yes and maybe some like i didn't need
- 19:36Speaker 1: quite as much like mantle repair scenes Also, just cut
- 19:41Speaker 1: the dad out completely. The dad didn't need to be there.
- 19:44Speaker 1: You could completely cut him out. I agree. Sorry, Xavier Sotelo.
- 19:48Speaker 1: I apologize.
- 19:49Speaker 2: Agree. Do you have any did you see that?
- 19:51Speaker 1: I only have one. I'd like to talk about something. Okay.
- 19:55Speaker 1: And that is the continued insistence on the part of
- 19:58Speaker 1: Hallmark that men age differently than women. Julie Gonzalo is 42.
- 20:07Speaker 1: The actor who plays her father, Xavier Sotelo, is 58
- 20:10Speaker 1: years old. Oh, geez. It's too much, people.
- 20:13Speaker 2: So you would prefer if they cast a more age-appropriate actor.
- 20:19Speaker 1: Someone in their 60s. Yes. That really bugs you, huh? Always.
- 20:24Speaker 1: The second he came on screen, I was like, well,
- 20:25Speaker 1: I'm looking this up. You're like, that guy's not old enough.
- 20:29Speaker 1: Hit me with your did you see that. Okay.
- 20:32Speaker 2: Anna arrives at the house and she sees Ruby dressed up.
- 20:34Speaker 2: This is where Ruby comments on Anna's less than fashionable outfit.
- 20:39Speaker 2: Do you remember the scene? Yes. Because Anna comes in,
- 20:42Speaker 2: she's like, oh, you changed. And then Ruby's like, this
- 20:45Speaker 2: is fashion. Or she says something like that. And then
- 20:47Speaker 2: she like disses whatever Anna's wearing. The next scene, we
- 20:52Speaker 2: see Anna is waxing the floors.
- 20:54Speaker 1: This is before the whole like feathers on the floor. Uh-huh.
- 20:58Speaker 2: And Anna is wearing jeans and a t-shirt. But it's
- 21:01Speaker 2: the same day because Ruby is still in her same outfit.
- 21:04Speaker 2: But then in the following scene, Anna's back in her
- 21:07Speaker 2: original outfit that ruby made fun of so i just
- 21:11Speaker 2: think like some scenes were out of sequence filmed out
- 21:14Speaker 2: of order yeah yeah yeah but i thought anna's outfits
- 21:19Speaker 2: were real cute like her knee-high black boots really darling
- 21:23Speaker 2: with her little skirts so cute yes and then with
- 21:26Speaker 2: her like jeans and black shirt with her cute little
- 21:29Speaker 2: jacket and her tennis shoes it was very much something
- 21:31Speaker 2: i would wear so i very much liked it i.
- 21:35Speaker 1: Thought it was so funny when ruby did her hair
- 21:37Speaker 1: just like there it looks so much better i'm like
- 21:38Speaker 1: it You put a clip in it. It looks the same.
- 21:41Speaker 1: You put a clip in it. What did you rate?
- 21:45Speaker 2: I gave this movie four stars.
- 21:46Speaker 1: 4.25 stars.
- 21:49Speaker 2: 4.25?
- 21:50Speaker 1: That's a new rating. I was almost at four and
- 21:54Speaker 1: a half. Almost. It was great. What? What?
- 21:57Speaker 2: What? You said, I'm all tongue tied. You said you
- 22:00Speaker 2: thought this was maybe the best movie of the year.
- 22:02Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't know. The rating system is meaningless. It
- 22:08Speaker 1: truly is. I feel like it's a four star. Yes,
- 22:13Speaker 1: there's no actual math involved here. Maybe one day I,
- 22:19Speaker 1: maybe in 2024, I will keep a note with all
- 22:22Speaker 1: the ratings of all the movies. Because what I never
- 22:25Speaker 1: do is think, oh, well, I rated that movie four stars,
- 22:27Speaker 1: but this was so much better than that. Yeah, yeah.
- 22:31Speaker 2: Maybe we should like designate like what is a one star?
- 22:35Speaker 2: What's a two star? What's a three star and beyond?
- 22:38Speaker 1: A rubric. Yes. I don't want to do that. Okay.
- 22:44Speaker 1: Just pure vibes. You can talk me into it. I
- 22:48Speaker 1: don't want to shoot your idea down. I'll consider it.
- 22:51Speaker 1: Radiance are done on pure vibes. I love it. I
- 22:55Speaker 1: love it. If you love seeing real life couples on screen,
