- 0:18thinking, and just bring some joy.
- 0:20Into the world. So welcome to the coop and let's
- 0:23start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:27Hey, everybody, good morning. Last night I went to a meeting
- 0:33that's all about doing Ted X and there's a Ted X that's going to
- 0:39be here in April. They do it every year here.
- 0:42And I was like, oh, OK, I applied once before two years
- 0:47ago, two or three years ago. And I just submitted an
- 0:51application online, didn't go to the meeting, and I didn't get
- 0:55chosen. And I was like, OK, wasn't meant
- 0:57to be, whatever. So this time I got the e-mail
- 0:59saying, hey, if you want to come, we're having an
- 1:02informational meeting. And I thought, OK, I want to go
- 1:04see what this is all about. Now, of course, I would love to
- 1:09get chosen for this. It is not a bucket list item.
- 1:13They were talking about that last night saying to me, hey,
- 1:15this is a bucket list item. You know, they were selling the
- 1:20whole fact of it, like they were really pushing that, that this
- 1:23was a thing. Now for me, I'm sitting in the
- 1:26room and I'm just listening to it and I'm kind of like, it's
- 1:29not a bucket list item for me. I got to work with Tony Robbins
- 1:33and speak for him in training crews and doing all kinds of
- 1:36stuff and I just, it's just not a bucket list item for me.
- 1:40Would it be awesome? Yes, it would definitely be
- 1:42awesome. But for me, it's not what they
- 1:44were trying to sell it to be. And the reason I went, the
- 1:48reason I'm doing this is because I always look for something that
- 1:51I can do in addition growing, pushing myself to grow and, and
- 1:56this could be a fun thing to do, right?
- 1:57Could just be something different.
- 1:59I've never done this kind of talk before.
- 2:01I've spoken on lots of big stages for and lots of small
- 2:04stages, like anything from 20 people all the way up to over
- 2:082500 people. And in in doing it in rooms,
- 2:12when Tony's on the stage, when he has you go up and do your
- 2:15intros and stuff like that. If you technically want to say
- 2:17that speaking, yes, words are coming out of my mouth, then
- 2:20I've done it in front of 15,000 people.
- 2:23But it's to me, it's not about that part of it.
- 2:27It's about OK, it's just about delivering something and doing
- 2:31something fun. So here we are.
- 2:33I decide to go to this event that they're having this little
- 2:37informational event and they're having it at the library, which
- 2:40was great. And go in, sit down and listen
- 2:46to the people who are the coaches and the people who are
- 2:50the pick. They're going to pick the
- 2:52committee like they're going to pick the people.
- 2:54So on average, about 350 to 400 people apply.
- 3:01On average, they pick 14 people, but this year they're only going
- 3:05to pick 10. They've decided to change the
- 3:08way they're doing the event and they're only going to pick 10
- 3:11people. So I was like, OK, you know,
- 3:14that's, that's their choice. That's fine.
- 3:17And I started really getting intent on how do they choose the
- 3:22process? Like how, what is the process?
- 3:24How do they pick? Because I thought my idea before
- 3:27it was a very good idea. It was based on emotions on what
- 3:30I do with everybody all the time.
- 3:32I'm like, OK, this is great because I know how much people,
- 3:36humans in general, suffer from this and how it's around us
- 3:39constantly. So of course I would go to my
- 3:42wheelhouse and I would do that. Well, turns out that it does not
- 3:47matter how good your idea is, it matters how good you can present
- 3:52your idea in that form. And that's what I found
- 3:56absolutely astonishing. It doesn't matter if you are
- 4:01sending in something that is the greatest idea ever.
- 4:06If you can't articulate your idea, then it doesn't.
- 4:10It's not even going to get their attention.
- 4:12Because basically they made it very clear that you have to
- 4:17articulate your idea in one sentence, and then you've got a
- 4:22few more sentences further down to go into it.
- 4:25But what catches them 1st and how they filter is that initial
- 4:29idea and they're thinking behind this is that if we can get you
- 4:35to say it in one sentence, then you're going to be able to do
- 4:41your talk in 10 minutes because the Ted X is 10 minutes.
- 4:45So I sat there really contemplating and thinking about
- 4:49what they were saying and how they were putting it together.
- 4:52And at no point, here's The funny thing, my friends, at no
- 4:54point do they say that you send in a video of yourself.
- 5:00They never mentioned that last night because you, I don't think
- 5:03you do. I don't remember doing a video.
- 5:04You just send in the form. But they never, they're going to
- 5:08put you on stage in front of thousands of people, but they
- 5:11don't ask you to send in a video, which I found
- 5:15fascinating, especially in the age of video, video, video.
- 5:19Why are they not asking for a video?
- 5:21But it's all comes down to, can you articulate your idea?
- 5:26And it really made me think about marketing in general
- 5:29because isn't that what it's all about with our businesses, with
- 5:33everything we do, it's always about are we able to market
- 5:38ourselves by articulating our ideas and what we do quickly and
- 5:42efficiently. And this is no different.
- 5:46So today or for actually probably for the next two weeks,
- 5:50I'm going to be crafting my one sentence and going through the
- 5:55application process tediously to see if I can finagle it.
- 6:01Now, will I be disappointed if I don't get in?
- 6:04No, it just wasn't meant to be. Will I pour into it and make
- 6:09sure I do the best job I can? After attending their meeting to
- 6:13submit the location, 1000% will it throw me if I don't get in?
- 6:17Nope. I might go for a second.
- 6:20That sucks. And then I'll just move on
- 6:22because again, it's not a bucket list item for me.
- 6:24It's not something but it, but it is definitely something that
- 6:28would add if it came along. So the lesson in today is
- 6:34remember, how well can you articulate what you do?
- 6:38How well can you attack? Articulate who you are.
- 6:40Because if you can't do it, people aren't buying it.
- 6:43Alright my friends, I hope you have a blessed day and I'll see
- 6:46you tomorrow. Bye.
