- 0:33Speaker 2: of Star Starfleet Academy.
- 0:37Speaker 3: Oh so not the season, the fall all right, and
- 0:40Speaker 3: I'm talking about autumn a right.
- 0:42Speaker 2: Yeah, the fall. Plus we've got Star Trek News and
- 0:46Speaker 2: your listener feedback. I am Scott Bouchers and now he
- 0:52Speaker 2: just got back from getting his own emotional support targ
- 0:56Speaker 2: It's Daniel Reyes.
- 0:57Speaker 3: That's right. That's right, my emotional support targu Jeffrey.
- 1:03Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, it's good times. Are you doing man, I'm I'm
- 1:07Speaker 2: doing great. I'm doing great. Lots of lots of news
- 1:11Speaker 2: surrounding Star Treks.
- 1:12Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, basically one big story.
- 1:15Speaker 2: One giant news story, which is what we're doing the
- 1:18Speaker 2: show about today. Yeah.
- 1:19Speaker 3: Basically the show today is going to be about the
- 1:23Speaker 3: the cancelation and fallout after, or the cancelation of of
- 1:28Speaker 3: Stirfleet Academy and the fallout thereafter. There's a lot going on.
- 1:33Speaker 3: It's not just the cancelation. There's also the fact that
- 1:36Speaker 3: Alex Kurtzman his deal to be the head guy of
- 1:42Speaker 3: of Star Trek. That deal is up by the end
- 1:45Speaker 3: of this year, so as far as we know.
- 1:49Speaker 2: Yeah, so Dan was so distraught about it. He's so
- 1:52Speaker 2: emotionally just devastated. He couldn't even make the podcast today.
- 1:57Speaker 3: Indeed, indeed, yes, he's prayers guys.
- 2:00Speaker 2: Yep, he's recovering emotionally from this devastating news.
- 2:04Speaker 3: So, yes, he'll be back next time, but inconsolable.
- 2:08Speaker 2: That's right, that's right.
- 2:10Speaker 3: So hopefully Dan Dan remembers one thing though, Daddy's help
- 2:15Speaker 3: you feel good? God, Yeah, you know, as he cries.
- 2:23Speaker 2: Yes, it's gonna be okay, Dan.
- 2:25Speaker 4: Yes, it's gonna be okay, It will be okay.
- 2:28Speaker 3: So yeah, how you babe.
- 2:30Speaker 2: Man, I'm doing good. I'm doing good. Yeah, family is good.
- 2:35Speaker 2: You know. Spring is in the air. So we were
- 2:39Speaker 2: outside yesterday doing a little bit of yard stuff. We're
- 2:43Speaker 2: gonna be out today doing a little bit of yard stuff.
- 2:46Speaker 2: I'm seeing some motorcycles out there, so that's that's my
- 2:50Speaker 2: that's my cueue to go change the oil the oil
- 2:54Speaker 2: in my Harley. So I'm going to be doing that
- 2:57Speaker 2: this week. And yeah, I get get the room room out.
- 3:01Speaker 3: Nice. They are out in full forest right now.
- 3:05Speaker 2: Yeah here. Yeah, because bike riders, you know, we all winter,
- 3:12Speaker 2: We're just like jones in to get on our bikes
- 3:14Speaker 2: and then you know, we get this first like sixty
- 3:17Speaker 2: seventy degree weekend. People are like, you know, they siphoned
- 3:21Speaker 2: their gas out of their snowblowers.
- 3:26Speaker 3: There's there's a there's a little bar not too far
- 3:28Speaker 3: from my house. It's called Cruisers, and uh, you can
- 3:33Speaker 3: ride your motorcycle into the bar.
- 3:35Speaker 2: Oh wow, yeah really, I've never heard of such a thing.
- 3:39Speaker 3: Yeah, okay, so I didn't know if that was like
- 3:42Speaker 3: a common thing or not.
- 3:43Speaker 2: So I've never seen such a thing riding right into
- 3:46Speaker 2: the bar. Huh. Yeah. Wow.
- 3:48Speaker 3: They've got tables designed that you can pull your bike
- 3:51Speaker 3: right up to it and like just be at.
- 3:52Speaker 2: The table and sit on your bike. Yeah that's outstanding. Yeah,
- 3:58Speaker 2: I gotta go. I got this is near you.
- 4:01Speaker 3: Yeah, it's like like five ten minutes from my house.
- 4:04Speaker 2: I gotta come to Idaho.
- 4:05Speaker 3: Yeah, co Cruisers Biker Bar.
- 4:08Speaker 2: Okay, yeah, I'll we'll have to check that out sometimes. Yeah.
- 4:12Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, it's interesting. I know people that hang out.
- 4:15Speaker 2: There all the time and they look good, cool, cool. Yeah.
- 4:19Speaker 2: The bike culture is you know a lot of people
- 4:21Speaker 2: have this this misconception about the bike culture. You know,
- 4:26Speaker 2: ninety nine percent of the riders that I come across
- 4:30Speaker 2: are just nice dudes. Yeah, you know, and if you
- 4:34Speaker 2: ever see a pack of riders, like, if you ever
- 4:36Speaker 2: see like a group of ten or twenty or thirty riders, uh,
- 4:40Speaker 2: there's a ninety nine point nine nine percent chance that
- 4:44Speaker 2: they are doing a charity ride, or they're doing a
- 4:47Speaker 2: funeral ride, or they're doing a burn camp raising money
- 4:52Speaker 2: for that kind of thing. So yeah, if you ever
- 4:54Speaker 2: see a giant group of riders, they it's it's not
- 4:59Speaker 2: like in the movies, you know, it's right, it's I
- 5:02Speaker 2: you know. One of the things that that I've heard
- 5:05Speaker 2: too is like, you know, if if if you if
- 5:08Speaker 2: you're a kid, if you're a little kid and you
- 5:10Speaker 2: get lost and you see a big burley biker, go
- 5:13Speaker 2: up to that big burley biker and ask them for help, Yeah,
- 5:16Speaker 2: they will one help you.
- 5:20Speaker 3: Oh yeah, absolutely. Well most of them are like either
- 5:24Speaker 3: former or current law enforcement or military military. Yeah yeah,
- 5:28Speaker 3: so they're prone to want to help, which is great.
- 5:31Speaker 2: Yep. Yeah, So all right, well there's my PSA for
- 5:37Speaker 2: bike riders.
- 5:40Speaker 3: Let's see h D Jammers as Hi guys D jammers
- 5:45Speaker 3: and then uh, let's see the Trek reviewer. But the
- 5:48Speaker 3: Wicked Witch rode a bike. Uh like a bicycle, I thought,
- 5:53Speaker 3: not a motorcycle.
- 5:54Speaker 2: That's true. Yeah, yeah, that rebinds. That reminds me of
- 5:57Speaker 2: that old Yellow Pages commercial where the guy shows up
- 6:03Speaker 2: at a ted speed. It says bike rally and he
- 6:05Speaker 2: shows up at a ted speed and then a bunch
- 6:07Speaker 2: of Harley riders show up and they like kind of
- 6:10Speaker 2: add him on the helmet and it said the tagline
- 6:12Speaker 2: is phone first.
- 6:16Speaker 3: The the the the amount that you dated yourself with
- 6:20Speaker 3: the I know, Yellow Pages commercial.
- 6:27Speaker 2: Phone first.
- 6:29Speaker 3: I've never seen this commercial.
- 6:33Speaker 2: I'll put a link to it. I have seen that YouTube.
- 6:35Speaker 2: I'll put a link to it. The cast Facebook group.
- 6:37Speaker 3: All right, well see, and that's a good reason guys
- 6:39Speaker 3: to join our Facebook group and our social media's crazy
- 6:43Speaker 3: stuff like that happens all the time. So you definitely
- 6:46Speaker 3: want to be part of that.
- 6:48Speaker 2: Oh boy, okay, so do we want to get into
- 6:51Speaker 2: this what's going on? You got all the all the crazy.
- 6:57Speaker 3: We're definitely gonna be talking about it. And I don't
- 6:59Speaker 3: know how much longer I'll be able to use this
- 7:01Speaker 3: sound effect, but so I'm going to use it. Of course,
- 7:11Speaker 3: that's our sound effect with stir Fleet Academy.
- 7:14Speaker 2: Right, yeah, I don't I don't want to talk about this. Yeah,
- 7:19Speaker 2: I want to change the subject. Can we talk about
- 7:21Speaker 2: your haircut?
- 7:22Speaker 3: I mean, it's a pretty bad haircut.
- 7:24Speaker 2: I think it looks great.
- 7:25Speaker 3: It looks like a Manchi gie man. They left me,
- 7:29Speaker 3: they left me looking looking pretty rough.
- 7:31Speaker 2: Oh boy, all right.
- 7:35Speaker 3: Yeah yeah, So all right, So, like I said, we
- 7:37Speaker 3: don't have a a news segment. This is more of
- 7:40Speaker 3: the main topic. So we're going to talk about the cancelation,
- 7:43Speaker 3: the fallout up thereof and and where we're at right
- 7:47Speaker 3: now with Stargic. So here we go. Let's get right
- 7:49Speaker 3: to our main topic.
- 7:51Speaker 4: Fun will now comment.
- 7:57Speaker 3: All right, So, if you did not hear the news
- 8:00Speaker 3: earlier this week, Variety reported that Starfleet Academy was to
- 8:06Speaker 3: end after its second season. You know, the second season
- 8:11Speaker 3: has already been shot. They are now in the process
- 8:13Speaker 3: of editing it. So yeah, so Starfid Academy will have
- 8:18Speaker 3: only ten more episodes and then it's over. The news
- 8:22Speaker 3: on this came out on let's see March twenty third,
- 8:26Speaker 3: so what just six days ago? And the it's really
- 8:31Speaker 3: interesting that they let this slip so early, especially right
- 8:35Speaker 3: after the first season, like literally like a week or
- 8:37Speaker 3: two after the first season ended.
- 8:40Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 8:41Speaker 3: Yeah, if you, if you know about about TV and
- 8:47Speaker 3: viewing patterns and everything, you generally do not say that
- 8:52Speaker 3: a show has ended before it airs, because most viewers
- 8:58Speaker 3: will not watch that show then because they think, what's
- 9:01Speaker 3: the point in investing in it right? Point in watching it?
- 9:05Speaker 2: Right? So we're certainly not going to attract any new viewers.
- 9:09Speaker 2: Nobody's gonna be like, oh, maybe I'll go watch the
- 9:11Speaker 2: Starfleet Academy and see what it's all about. Now they
- 9:13Speaker 2: already canceled it, right.
- 9:14Speaker 3: Yeah, perfect, I'm gonna watch it now. No, yeah, that's
- 9:19Speaker 3: the thing. The the article sites that the big problem
- 9:23Speaker 3: with Academy was the lack of viewership. It had failed
- 9:28Speaker 3: to make the top ten of the Nielsen ratings for
- 9:31Speaker 3: streaming shows. It never cracked that.
- 9:33Speaker 2: Uh.
- 9:34Speaker 3: And they even did a bit where remember the first episode,
- 9:38Speaker 3: they released two episodes, right, Oh, snap, there's an intruder alert.
- 9:46Speaker 3: Hold on, I think he's getting situated. Hold on, but
- 9:49Speaker 3: intruder alert here we go. Bring him in. There he
- 9:52Speaker 3: is look at all snazzy on his way to church.
- 9:55Speaker 5: That's right, well, Space Louis, No, hey.
- 10:06Speaker 3: Audi, oh we lost him? Oh there you go.
- 10:12Speaker 2: Yes, Section thirty one cut them off.
- 10:15Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, they cut him off that section for us. Yeah.
- 10:21Speaker 3: So yeah, it's interesting that they would announce that the
- 10:26Speaker 3: show is over before it aired. Like I said, that's
- 10:31Speaker 3: something that typically will completely kneecap your audience. But what
- 10:36Speaker 3: Variety was reporting though, is the big problem was the ratings. Right,
- 10:42Speaker 3: it never cracked the top ten of the Nielsen. Like
- 10:44Speaker 3: I said, They even did the deal where they released
- 10:47Speaker 3: two episodes the first premiere, right, they had two episodes
- 10:51Speaker 3: back to back. And typically the reason you do that
- 10:54Speaker 3: is you are definitely trying to crack the top ten
- 10:56Speaker 3: because one of the ways to crack the top ten
- 10:58Speaker 3: is the amount of minutes that you watched. So if
- 11:02Speaker 3: you have two episodes, you will have more opportunity for
- 11:07Speaker 3: people to watch minutes of your show, so thereby doubling
- 11:10Speaker 3: your numbers. Okay, it's one of the reasons why Amazon
- 11:15Speaker 3: will release like three episodes of a show before you
- 11:18Speaker 3: know at the start, because they're trying to triple their amount.
- 11:22Speaker 3: There is, there's Dan, there's yeah, what's going on?
- 11:28Speaker 6: I'm in a red Book par and uh I had
- 11:31Speaker 6: the phone plugged in.
- 11:32Speaker 2: I must have been going.
- 11:33Speaker 6: To the to the vehicle.
- 11:34Speaker 2: I didn't realize it.
- 11:35Speaker 3: Oh okay, okay, you look at.
- 11:40Speaker 6: Thank you got a special mention today.
- 11:44Speaker 2: I can tell you about it, but i'd have to
- 11:45Speaker 2: kill you fair enough understood space Force got it? Got it?
- 11:49Speaker 6: And and I can't, And I, like like half the
- 11:52Speaker 6: people on this show, so I don't want to.
- 11:55Speaker 3: You can decide what you have. That's right, think about it.
- 11:59Speaker 2: I don't think that's a secret.
- 12:02Speaker 3: I nearly likes that each of us halfway so between.
- 12:05Speaker 2: The that I listened to the show when you're when
- 12:08Speaker 2: I've got odd So Scott, you know it comes from
- 12:13Speaker 2: a place of love, of course I do.
- 12:17Speaker 3: Jasmin says, you're going to church Force church. That's it.
- 12:21Speaker 2: I like it.
- 12:22Speaker 3: That's what it is.
- 12:23Speaker 2: That's it. I'm slinging from slinging away. First, Le's going
- 12:28Speaker 2: to the temple to worship the profets.
- 12:30Speaker 3: That's right, that's right, this celestial temple.
- 12:35Speaker 6: He I only have a few minutes, but I wanted
- 12:38Speaker 6: to pop in and just go on the record.
- 12:40Speaker 3: My prediction, Uh, they're going to back Girl this thing.
- 12:45Speaker 3: Oh yeah, we're going to get into that. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 12:48Speaker 3: we're going to get into that. There is strong potential
- 12:52Speaker 3: for that. Yeah yeah, yeah. And I'm okay with that.
- 12:59Speaker 3: Yeah yeah, I'm.
- 13:00Speaker 6: Okay with the franchise resting for a bit after Strange
- 13:04Speaker 6: New Worlds. We don't get cos re.
- 13:09Speaker 3: Ducts or whatever or call it.
- 13:12Speaker 6: Yeah, but that's my short and dirty. Okay, I gotta
- 13:17Speaker 6: get back. But I miss you guys. Yeah, I'll talk
- 13:22Speaker 6: to you soon, all right, take.
- 13:23Speaker 3: Care, okay. But yeah, So that was one of the
- 13:27Speaker 3: things I was gonna get into is Dan's theory that
- 13:30Speaker 3: they're going to Backgirle this thing and just never never
- 13:33Speaker 3: release it because it costs so much to do this show.
- 13:40Speaker 3: And right now they're in post production of making season two.
- 13:45Speaker 3: I think the estimates where it was right around eight
- 13:47Speaker 3: to ten million in an episode for the first season. Now,
- 13:53Speaker 3: because the sets were already built, that cost actually drops
- 13:57Speaker 3: a little bit for season two. So there is potential
- 14:01Speaker 3: that the cost per episode is you know, a little
- 14:03Speaker 3: bit lower, but even at what like six and eight
- 14:08Speaker 3: somewhere in there, you know, or.
- 14:10Speaker 2: Five guy, He says they're going to fund it by
- 14:15Speaker 2: having Nala Egg open a pay less shoe source on Vulcan.
- 14:20Speaker 3: Oh god, yeah, nice nice. So yeah, So I mean
- 14:27Speaker 3: there you can kind of like there's reasons to believe
- 14:32Speaker 3: for both, right, that you could batgirl this thing, take
- 14:35Speaker 3: the tax cut and cut your losses, but also at
- 14:40Speaker 3: a lower cost rating, maybe it's worth it to put out.
- 14:44Speaker 3: But when you but when you handicap your your viewership
- 14:48Speaker 3: by saying, hey, there's no more of this thing, that
- 14:51Speaker 3: also like you're gonna have a lot less viewers, your
- 14:54Speaker 3: return on investment just isn't possible at that point, or
- 14:57Speaker 3: significantly less possible. So it's it's kind of interesting that
- 15:02Speaker 3: they let it out like this, right.
- 15:05Speaker 2: And this is the first Star Trek series that's going
- 15:09Speaker 2: to go down in history as a failure. I can't
- 15:15Speaker 2: think of another series that failed. I mean, if you
- 15:22Speaker 2: look at Enterprise, Enterprise did and early, but I don't
- 15:26Speaker 2: think anybody considered it a failure. It's still out there.
- 15:29Speaker 2: I still rewatch it, even you know, Discovery. I don't
- 15:34Speaker 2: think Discovery is considered a failure. Five seasons and it
- 15:39Speaker 2: sort of lasted almost as long as they kind of
- 15:42Speaker 2: wanted it to This was meant for at least four seasons,
- 15:47Speaker 2: four years, four college years, and and it got cut.
- 15:51Speaker 2: It failed. Yeah, you know, the original series was canceled
- 15:57Speaker 2: and then was reborn. That's had a rebirth, so it
- 16:01Speaker 2: didn't fail. This is a failure. This is gonna get
- 16:04Speaker 2: swept under the rug. This is this is section thirty
- 16:07Speaker 2: one area, you know. And it's too bad because you
- 16:13Speaker 2: can tell these the people that made this. You know,
- 16:17Speaker 2: you look at the actors, these younger they're very passionate
- 16:21Speaker 2: about it. They're they're they're talented. You know. The the
- 16:25Speaker 2: lead kid is a. I think is A is a
- 16:27Speaker 2: great actors weren't the problem, man, No, the actors were
- 16:31Speaker 2: They did. Yeah, these guys are good. I love Robert
- 16:36Speaker 2: Piccardo and I love Tak Nataro. You know, these these
- 16:42Speaker 2: guys have some talent. Yeah, it's fun to watch them
- 16:45Speaker 2: on screen, you know. And I I hate to complain
- 16:51Speaker 2: about you know, there's there's this bandwagon about complaining about
- 16:57Speaker 2: you know, the showrunners, but they're they. I don't know
- 17:01Speaker 2: who else to blame.
- 17:03Speaker 3: Well, yeah, I mean the bucks got us up somewhere, right.
- 17:05Speaker 2: And I made a I made a comment on Facebook.
- 17:10Speaker 2: I said you know, we like to complain about the show.
- 17:14Speaker 2: And I I I was actually following a thread. I
- 17:19Speaker 2: got it up right here. I was commenting on something
- 17:23Speaker 2: that Darren Benjamin said, Darren and Dave Ivy the original
- 17:29Speaker 2: Trek Cast, the Ogs, and and they don't they don't
- 17:34Speaker 2: get on the trek Cast thing often, especially Dave. But
- 17:41Speaker 2: I said complaining. I was responding to Dave. I said,
- 17:44Speaker 2: complain about the thing we love is part of the
- 17:46Speaker 2: thing that we love, and and Dave responded, I could
- 17:51Speaker 2: not agree more. That's right, you know. I I love
- 17:53Speaker 2: complaining about this. But then you know, they also talked
- 17:56Speaker 2: about it just gets toxic when you complain about it
- 18:01Speaker 2: too much. And you just you know, Alex Kurtzman this
- 18:03Speaker 2: and Alex Hirtsman that, and I get that, I get that,
- 18:06Speaker 2: but you know, yeah, the buck has to stop somewhere,
- 18:09Speaker 2: and right, you know, I don't know if there's somebody
- 18:12Speaker 2: above Alex Kurtzman at Paramount, that's that's you know, putting
- 18:18Speaker 2: pressure on the showrunners. I don't know, you know why
- 18:24Speaker 2: they I know Terry Metallis is off kind of doing
- 18:27Speaker 2: something else right now.
- 18:28Speaker 3: Yeah, he's doing the vision show for Marvel.
- 18:30Speaker 2: And and I know that Jonathan Fraakes has said, I'm
- 18:33Speaker 2: sort of done directing, you know, but I don't know. Yeah,
- 18:41Speaker 2: I'm disappointed with what's going on. And Dan's right, I
- 18:44Speaker 2: guess we need a break, We need to build up well.
- 18:48Speaker 3: And we'll see how much of a break we get.
- 18:50Speaker 3: Because remember they are working on that reboot movie. So
- 18:54Speaker 3: if they're in pre production of it now, well in
- 18:56Speaker 3: development of it now, it's technically not even pre production.
- 19:00Speaker 3: So let's say a year, year and a half maybe
- 19:04Speaker 3: two years of development, So that's what twenty twenty eight,
- 19:09Speaker 3: a year of then pre production twenty twenty nine, then
- 19:13Speaker 3: shooting it and editing it. So you're looking at like
- 19:15Speaker 3: twenty thirty eighty one. Yeah, that's four or five years
- 19:20Speaker 3: right that that Star Trek's on ice. That's really not
- 19:24Speaker 3: that long of a time between between you know, one
- 19:29Speaker 3: iteration to another. Plus, when that movie comes out, you
- 19:34Speaker 3: know they're.
- 19:35Speaker 2: Going to have other shows to go with it, sure
- 19:37Speaker 2: and this and if it if it does happen like that,
- 19:40Speaker 2: it needs to be a big deal blockbuster. It can't
- 19:43Speaker 2: be like streaming now on Paramount Plus. It needs to
- 19:46Speaker 2: be oh nine, Star Trek. It needs to be something
- 19:50Speaker 2: big Yeah, it needs to be big rejuvenate the franchise. Yeah,
- 19:55Speaker 2: like like JJ did in nine right right, you know,
- 20:01Speaker 2: and like they did in twenty seventeen when when Discovery
- 20:04Speaker 2: came came out. I mean that that brought some interest
- 20:07Speaker 2: back to Star Trek. Yeah, people started watching again.
- 20:10Speaker 3: And and you know, I have some of the reactions
- 20:13Speaker 3: from some of the some of the actors on the show.
- 20:17Speaker 3: Let's see. Robert Riccardo said that he was, you know,
- 20:21Speaker 3: truly sad that that that they're not gonna be able
- 20:24Speaker 3: to produce any more of the show.
- 20:26Speaker 5: Uh.
- 20:27Speaker 3: He also said that he felt Starfleet Academy was very
- 20:30Speaker 3: much a traditional Star Trek show. You know, he's close
- 20:35Speaker 3: to it, so I get it. I get why he
- 20:37Speaker 3: wants to protect that. I'm sure he also feels like
- 20:40Speaker 3: a fatherly role to the younger actors, so probably wanting
- 20:45Speaker 3: to defend his kids, you know for sure. William Shatner,
- 20:49Speaker 3: grandpa of Star Trek, he came out too, very supportive
- 20:55Speaker 3: of the show and very supportive of the cast and crew,
- 20:59Speaker 3: and just said how it was sad that that it
- 21:01Speaker 3: would be lost. Uh. Jayden Kareem Diane, uh you know
- 21:09Speaker 3: who plays Jayden. He he was pretty fired up. Did
- 21:15Speaker 3: did you know? Said he loved the show and that
- 21:17Speaker 3: he was proud of it, which, you know, good for him.
- 21:19Speaker 3: He worked on a on a hard show and you know, yeah,
- 21:23Speaker 3: did did slip a little bit about season two? Uh so? Yeah,
- 21:28Speaker 3: a little bit, a little bit. Uh he says it's
- 21:31Speaker 3: all turned up to eleven.
- 21:33Speaker 2: You know.
- 21:35Speaker 3: His his quote is it's gay as fuck and bows
- 21:39Speaker 3: to go out in flames.
- 21:40Speaker 2: So at this point, you know, might as well just
- 21:45Speaker 2: go for it. But they might as well just Stephen
- 21:48Speaker 2: Colbert the hell out of it.
- 21:49Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, just do it just so.
- 21:53Speaker 2: Yeah, it's like what Steven Colbert is doing right now.
- 21:56Speaker 2: He doesn't give an f no whatever he wants. He's
- 22:02Speaker 2: saying crab about air, about CBS.
- 22:06Speaker 3: Oh ja, Chaz says we should bad girl it. What
- 22:10Speaker 3: does that mean?
- 22:12Speaker 2: Whoa uh, I've seen that version.
- 22:15Speaker 3: Yeah, what are you talking? It's a little early for such.
- 22:18Speaker 2: Talk, right, Yes, Chad by Bob watches the show, that's right,
- 22:23Speaker 2: his mom, how dare you sir? Oh boy? Uh So
- 22:30Speaker 2: the Trek Reversey is speaking of Star Trek t O
- 22:32Speaker 2: s have you guys watched the fan film series Star
- 22:35Speaker 2: Trek continues I've watched a couple of pieces of it
- 22:40Speaker 2: on on YouTube. I've watched a little bit of X
- 22:45Speaker 2: ANDAR and a little bit of stuff like that, you know,
- 22:50Speaker 2: Paramount a.
- 22:51Speaker 3: Couple of fan films on here for reviews.
- 22:53Speaker 2: Yeah, I just I just listened to my boy, uh
- 22:58Speaker 2: Robbie mcdunk, Robbie doucle Neil and uh yeah, my best
- 23:03Speaker 2: friend and and my my homie Garrett Wang. They were
- 23:06Speaker 2: talking about Garrett being in one of the Star Trek
- 23:11Speaker 2: fan films with with like Tim Russ and and company.
- 23:15Speaker 2: So oh that's right, Yeah, yeah, Garrett Wong was in. Uh,
- 23:20Speaker 2: he was in. He was in one where he played
- 23:25Speaker 2: like Commander so and so, I think Commander Derrett and
- 23:32Speaker 2: now he didn't play in fact when when when there
- 23:34Speaker 2: he was at when I think it was Tim Russ
- 23:36Speaker 2: asked him, will you do this fan film with Garrett
- 23:40Speaker 2: was like no, and and Tim Russ is like, well,
- 23:42Speaker 2: you're not gonna play Uh, You're not gonna play Harry Kim.
- 23:45Speaker 2: You're gonna play command or so and so. And I
- 23:47Speaker 2: think he was playing on the Enterprise b uh to
- 23:52Speaker 2: Captain Harriman. And it was like a mere universe type
- 23:56Speaker 2: of thing and so I haven't seen it, and I
- 23:59Speaker 2: know that Paramount got pretty lawyery about those yeah, yeah,
- 24:06Speaker 2: which you know, Garrett and Rob were saying. You know,
- 24:11Speaker 2: I get it with the money and the and the
- 24:14Speaker 2: copyright and stuff, but the let the fans make these
- 24:18Speaker 2: films if they're not gonna you know, profit off of them,
- 24:20Speaker 2: because it just gets people talking about Star Trek, right,
- 24:24Speaker 2: And we've talked about it on the show before, about
- 24:26Speaker 2: fan films and you know, copyright and intellectual property and
- 24:30Speaker 2: things like that. You're a writer, I mean, how do
- 24:32Speaker 2: you feel about those fan films.
- 24:35Speaker 3: I I get where they're coming from about wanting to
- 24:40Speaker 3: protect your IP and you don't want certain things in
- 24:43Speaker 3: different light, and you know, have people thinking bad things
- 24:47Speaker 3: about your your IP based off of something that was
- 24:50Speaker 3: completely out of your control. But at the same time,
- 24:56Speaker 3: part of when you write and when you develop, you're
- 24:59Speaker 3: trying to create something that goes out into the world
- 25:01Speaker 3: and hopefully resonates with people. And so to have such
- 25:05Speaker 3: a passionate fan base that they want to spend their
- 25:08Speaker 3: free time and money recreating your product and recreating your
- 25:14Speaker 3: IP because they love it so much, I mean, that's
- 25:17Speaker 3: that's nothing but good things. You know, I think you
- 25:21Speaker 3: could make kind of like what they did, a list
- 25:25Speaker 3: of like here, here's what's acceptable, here's what's not.
- 25:28Speaker 2: Right.
- 25:30Speaker 3: I think that would be good. I think it would
- 25:32Speaker 3: be kind of interesting if they had released like official,
- 25:36Speaker 3: like three D modeling so that people could use for
- 25:39Speaker 3: their fan films. Like here are some ships. It's not
- 25:41Speaker 3: our mainline ships, but these are you know, ships that
- 25:46Speaker 3: that are designed for fan films. You can call them
- 25:49Speaker 3: whatever you want, but here's a here's a twelve pack
- 25:52Speaker 3: of different federationships, a twelve pack of kling On and
- 25:55Speaker 3: like just give like something like that, right, Yeah, And
- 25:59Speaker 3: then that way you can and say, you know, these
- 26:01Speaker 3: are the acceptable pieces to use and and go with
- 26:05Speaker 3: God on that.
- 26:06Speaker 2: Right.
- 26:07Speaker 3: So you're you're limiting but fostering at the same time.
- 26:11Speaker 2: Sure, yeah, I just want some good stories.
- 26:17Speaker 3: Yeah. So, so the big question now is what happens
- 26:24Speaker 3: next with Star Trek and what happens next with Alex Kurtzman. Right,
- 26:28Speaker 3: So I read this the Big Variety article where they
- 26:35Speaker 3: had mentioned that, you know, the cancelation and why it
- 26:37Speaker 3: was canceled. Uh, but also in conjunction with that Variety
- 26:41Speaker 3: of what's one of the big trade magazines in Hollywood.
- 26:44Speaker 3: They also have got a daily podcast, and the day
- 26:48Speaker 3: this article dropped, they also did a podcast about what's
- 26:52Speaker 3: next for Star Trek and what's next for Alex Kurtzman.
- 26:55Speaker 3: And in that podcast they speculated because right now there's
- 27:00Speaker 3: no confirmation, I don't care where you're looking on the internet,
- 27:03Speaker 3: there's no confirmation of this right now. They but they
- 27:06Speaker 3: speculated that this is an indication that the Kurtsman era
- 27:10Speaker 3: of Star Trek is over. You would not say that
- 27:14Speaker 3: the show is being ended like this. You would wait
- 27:18Speaker 3: until after it aired to say that the show has ended.
- 27:23Speaker 3: So that to them was a big indication that it's.
- 27:25Speaker 2: Over, right.
- 27:28Speaker 3: But the one thing they did point out is that
- 27:31Speaker 3: they don't think that means that that Kurtzman is being
- 27:35Speaker 3: booted out of Paramount. If anything, they think he will
- 27:40Speaker 3: get another deal, but that deal would be to produce shows,
- 27:45Speaker 3: not Star Trek shows, because he does have a track
- 27:48Speaker 3: record of success of other types of shows as well,
- 27:52Speaker 3: and this entire time that he's been making Star Trek shows,
- 27:54Speaker 3: he has made other shows as well, like one of them,
- 27:59Speaker 3: I have the list here. One of them was The
- 28:01Speaker 3: Man who Fell to Earth. Right that that started in
- 28:04Speaker 3: twenty twenty two and it's got eighty seven percent for
- 28:08Speaker 3: critics and a seventy eight percent with fans, so pretty
- 28:12Speaker 3: pretty big show. Another show that he's got is Clarice,
- 28:16Speaker 3: which is, like, I think, a Science of the Lambs
- 28:18Speaker 3: type of show. But he's got a few other ones, yeah,
- 28:23Speaker 3: that that have been doing well or well enough.
- 28:27Speaker 2: I don't hate Alex Kurtzman. No, No, to paraphrase Stewie
- 28:31Speaker 2: from Family Guy, it's not that I want him to die.
- 28:34Speaker 2: It's that I want him not to live any longer.
- 28:37Speaker 3: Right, I just.
- 28:43Speaker 2: I might be mistaken when I when I see that
- 28:46Speaker 2: Star Trek's failure being Kurtzman's fault. Maybe maybe it's not
- 28:49Speaker 2: Kirtsman's fault, but I like a lot of people see
- 28:53Speaker 2: it as Kurtzman's fault. I might be wrong, but well,
- 28:58Speaker 2: see like here, we like the lot of stuff that
- 29:00Speaker 2: Metallists did and a lot of things that Freaks directed.
- 29:03Speaker 3: And Guy gad Boys twenty or thirty ten says, wasn't
- 29:10Speaker 3: Disney hinting at making room for fan creation on their
- 29:13Speaker 3: streaming service? Yes, oh that was another big news story
- 29:16Speaker 3: that happened this week, So yes, you are correct, sir,
- 29:21Speaker 3: Disney was going to allow fans to use Sora to
- 29:27Speaker 3: create AI content using I think they had like two
- 29:31Speaker 3: hundred characters that Soro would be allowed to use to
- 29:34Speaker 3: create just fan content on Disney Plus. However, the big
- 29:40Speaker 3: news this week, even bigger than what happened with Star Trek,
- 29:44Speaker 3: is that the what the chat GBT Sora is no more.
- 29:49Speaker 3: The AI company has decided to pull the plug on Sora.
- 29:51Speaker 3: It just wasn't profitable enough for AI slop videos and
- 29:55Speaker 3: so they're they're getting rid of it.
- 29:59Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 30:00Speaker 3: So so that has has stopped that that idea, But that's
- 30:07Speaker 3: not to say that's not something Disney wouldn't do in
- 30:09Speaker 3: the future. Just right now that that idea of it.
- 30:13Speaker 2: Is done, Yeah, because I've seen some on like TikTok
- 30:18Speaker 2: and and YouTube shorts and things. I've seen some AI
- 30:21Speaker 2: created short films that, yeah, like involving like Luke Skywalker, Yeah,
- 30:28Speaker 2: and and and and like filling in some story gaps. Yeah.
- 30:33Speaker 2: I mean the CG is not perfect, but it's it's
- 30:36Speaker 2: it's enough where it doesn't take you out of the
- 30:38Speaker 2: story and it just it just tells a story about Uh,
- 30:42Speaker 2: this is what he did after Return of the Jedi
- 30:44Speaker 2: and this is how he dealt with the just after
- 30:46Speaker 2: the funeral of Darth Vader and right, stuff like that,
- 30:50Speaker 2: and it's like, oh, this is kind of interesting, and
- 30:52Speaker 2: the dialogue is a little bit eh, but it's like,
- 30:55Speaker 2: you know, with a little bit of spit and polished,
- 30:57Speaker 2: this could I would like to watch ninety minutes of this.
- 31:01Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, it's that. That's one of the
- 31:05Speaker 3: things they said about AI is that it would be
- 31:08Speaker 3: a way to lower the cost and threshold to make
- 31:12Speaker 3: quality films. So it just hasn't worked out that way
- 31:17Speaker 3: so far.
- 31:19Speaker 2: You know.
- 31:19Speaker 3: We do also have more reaction about the cancelation of
- 31:24Speaker 3: Starfleet Academy. Let me pull this up. This is from
- 31:28Speaker 3: Bleeding and Cool. But, uh, do you know who Andy
- 31:31Speaker 3: wear Is?
- 31:33Speaker 2: Name sounds familiar, Okay.
- 31:35Speaker 3: He is the author behind The Martian and most recently
- 31:40Speaker 3: projectail Mary.
- 31:41Speaker 2: Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, okay.
- 31:43Speaker 3: So he's out there making the rounds, you know, promoting
- 31:47Speaker 3: Project Hail Mary. But he talked about how he did
- 31:50Speaker 3: not like the new Star Trek shows. In fact, in
- 31:53Speaker 3: one interview he said they were shit. Yeah. He he
- 32:00Speaker 3: went on to say that you know, he stranger the
- 32:03Speaker 3: world is Okay, he thought that Lower Decks was fun
- 32:07Speaker 3: and entertaining, but all the other stuff just you can
- 32:11Speaker 3: throw it in the bin. It wasn't working for him.
- 32:14Speaker 3: But one of the things that he let slipped was
- 32:17Speaker 3: that he had a failed Star Trek show pitch or
- 32:22Speaker 3: rejected pitch, and that he pitched it to Alex Kurtzman.
- 32:28Speaker 3: So I thought that was interesting. He says, here's the thing.
- 32:31Speaker 3: I pitched a Star Trek show to Paramount. It was
- 32:34Speaker 3: on Zoom with the showrunners with all the shows, and
- 32:38Speaker 3: I spent a lot of time talking to Alex Kurtzman.
- 32:42Speaker 3: I don't like a lot of the new Star Trek show,
- 32:45Speaker 3: but he as a person is a really nice guy.
- 32:47Speaker 3: But at the same time, those shows are shit, but
- 32:50Speaker 3: he has a nice guy. They didn't they didn't accept
- 32:54Speaker 3: my pitch, so you know, fuck them.
- 32:59Speaker 2: Okay, Well, I guess you know how he feels about it.
- 33:02Speaker 3: Yeah, So take all that with a massive grain of salt,
- 33:04Speaker 3: because you know, right, I just thought that was so funny.
- 33:09Speaker 2: That kind of echoes the way a lot of us
- 33:10Speaker 2: feel about alse curse. I guess he's a nice guy,
- 33:13Speaker 2: but fam yeah, I mean, and I kind of feel
- 33:18Speaker 2: like if that's true, that, yeah, I would like him
- 33:22Speaker 2: to go ahead and be successful somewhere else in here. Amount.
- 33:27Speaker 3: Yeah, let him do his shows, let him you know
- 33:29Speaker 3: something else. Uh, the Star Trek reviewer, here's the thing
- 33:33Speaker 3: that Elvis Chritsman might be might not be the problem.
- 33:36Speaker 3: The problem could be the fact that most writers are
- 33:38Speaker 3: not sci fi writers. And the fact is that I
- 33:41Speaker 3: heard that the producers do not care about pre existing
- 33:44Speaker 3: Star Trek cannon.
- 33:45Speaker 2: Yeah, that's another point. That's another point, Star Trek Cannon.
- 33:49Speaker 2: You've got two camps when it comes to canon, you know,
- 33:53Speaker 2: and and and we I think we can eliminate like
- 33:58Speaker 2: we can take the news the brand new ones that
- 34:02Speaker 2: that were not Star Trek fans a year ago or
- 34:04Speaker 2: two years ago, and they I don't want to say
- 34:08Speaker 2: that they don't have they don't have any seniority here.
- 34:14Speaker 2: But if you take the the old US, old school Trekies,
- 34:17Speaker 2: there's two camps. Those that care about canon, those that
- 34:19Speaker 2: don't really care about canon, you know. The ones that
- 34:22Speaker 2: don't care about canon are like, just give me a
- 34:23Speaker 2: good story and we can get behind it, right. And
- 34:26Speaker 2: then there's those of those of us that do care
- 34:28Speaker 2: about canon because we think about old Star Trek and
- 34:33Speaker 2: We're like, well, wait a minute, if he does this
- 34:36Speaker 2: or they did that back, then why are they doing
- 34:39Speaker 2: it like this here? And and it's it's a symptom
- 34:43Speaker 2: of yeah, these start these writers are not not just
- 34:46Speaker 2: not sci fi writers, they're not Star Trek fans. What
- 34:50Speaker 2: seems like, you know when they come up with with
- 34:53Speaker 2: things like the Burn and they don't think to themselves,
- 34:57Speaker 2: you know, like a simple concept like uh, Romulans don't
- 35:01Speaker 2: use di lithium, they use quantum singularities. Why wasn't that
- 35:07Speaker 2: written into the show. It would have been cool to
- 35:09Speaker 2: be like, oh, there was this thing where after the
- 35:11Speaker 2: Burn the Romulans had like this big power trip you know,
- 35:16Speaker 2: or something like that. They should have thought about that.
- 35:18Speaker 3: They conquered a lot.
- 35:19Speaker 2: And yeah, did they not see that episode or those
- 35:23Speaker 2: two episodes or whatever? You know. So it's it's like
- 35:27Speaker 2: that because Star Trek fans like us, we start screaming
- 35:31Speaker 2: at our TVs, going did you not see the Enemy?
- 35:35Speaker 2: Did you not see the Next Generation episode dealt with that?
- 35:39Speaker 2: Like hello, yeah, so we're passionate about it. So, yeah,
- 35:45Speaker 2: care a little bit about Cannon.
- 35:48Speaker 3: I like this comment we got how does we get
- 35:50Speaker 3: rejected when Colbert gets to make a Tolkien fan film.
- 35:56Speaker 2: Yeah I saw that too. Yes, for those who don't know,
- 35:59Speaker 2: Stephen Colbert is uh gonna be writing a new Lord
- 36:05Speaker 2: of the Rings movie. Mm hmm yeah yeah, okay, I guess.
- 36:11Speaker 3: With Peter Jackson producing it.
- 36:13Speaker 2: Yeah, all right, well he's gonna land on his feet
- 36:17Speaker 2: then I guess.
- 36:19Speaker 3: Oh, here we go, Sean, Dilithium isn't a it's used
- 36:24Speaker 3: as control rods to stop energy, stop engines exploding. Sean.
- 36:29Speaker 3: I normally don't do this for commons, but that buddy
- 36:33Speaker 3: that completely deserves this warning warning NERD alert, nerd alert.
- 36:42Speaker 2: Here, that's Sean. I know that di lithium isn't the
- 36:44Speaker 2: power source. I know that the lithium crystals are used
- 36:47Speaker 2: to regulate the reaction because dialathium crystals are the only
- 36:51Speaker 2: material known to the Federation that doesn't react to anti matter,
- 36:55Speaker 2: Thank you very much. But uh, the point was that
- 36:59Speaker 2: the uh, the romulins don't use delithium to regulate their reactions.
- 37:05Speaker 2: They use a quantum singularity to produce their power.
- 37:07Speaker 3: First off, the romulins should only be flying to the
- 37:11Speaker 3: song regulators if they're gonna regulate, and they should always
- 37:16Speaker 3: say regulators mount up.
- 37:18Speaker 2: Yeah, they fly into battle.
- 37:20Speaker 3: Yeah. Secondly, the chat is now getting filled with a
- 37:24Speaker 3: lot of well actually well yeah, as as the star
- 37:30Speaker 3: Trek reviewer says. Also, the Enterprise should not be as
- 37:32Speaker 3: big as it is in Strange New Worlds.
- 37:35Speaker 7: Right, Oh yeah, why do we need starships if there's
- 37:46Speaker 7: all the portal technology as as shows.
- 37:48Speaker 3: In startfe in Starfleet Academy. Uh yes, well, don't forget
- 37:53Speaker 3: we also have the makeover machine on Starfleet Academy. You know,
- 37:58Speaker 3: there's all sorts of portals that you can go through.
- 38:00Speaker 3: Its business is very happy with shouting out Nate Dog
- 38:07Speaker 3: and Warren g.
- 38:08Speaker 2: So, I mean if we want to if we want
- 38:10Speaker 2: to go over you know, the the warp technology uh
- 38:15Speaker 2: uh huh for uh, I've got the star Technical Manual
- 38:19Speaker 2: right here. So if we want to go over di
- 38:22Speaker 2: lithium crystals and uh warp chambers.
- 38:27Speaker 3: So hey, ay, Chad, if you want to join us
- 38:30Speaker 3: on this discussion, feel free to x up in the
- 38:33Speaker 3: chat to put an X and I will send you
- 38:34Speaker 3: a link and you can join us. We just asked
- 38:37Speaker 3: that you have a camera and a mic so that
- 38:39Speaker 3: we can hear you and see you. Oh, Sean also
- 38:43Speaker 3: says quite simply, the burn was the stupidest idea and not.
- 38:48Speaker 2: I agree, Yeah, yeah, I agree. Yeah, it was poorly
- 38:53Speaker 2: execute well, and I I don't mind the idea of
- 38:58Speaker 2: like a catastrophic federation galaxy wide event. Yeah, its cause
- 39:05Speaker 2: was dumb.
- 39:06Speaker 3: Oh yeah, the crying out for mommy.
- 39:09Speaker 2: Yeah yeah. The Kelpian temper temper tantrum, Yeah yeah, that
- 39:16Speaker 2: was I mean, because that was a Q level catastrophe.
- 39:21Speaker 2: Yeah really, yeah, that that should have been a Q
- 39:24Speaker 2: having a temper tantrum, you know, not a Kelpian. That
- 39:28Speaker 2: that should have been a some kind of omnipotent being. Not.
- 39:33Speaker 3: Yeah, but see, I don't even think that, like if
- 39:36Speaker 3: you wanted to say that somehow all the di lithium
- 39:40Speaker 3: is somehow connected, because you know, that's basically what they're
- 39:43Speaker 3: saying with the crying. Yeah, you gotta say like it
- 39:47Speaker 3: was an accidental discovery or or something. Right, you got
- 39:51Speaker 3: to give a reason for that connection. I can't just
- 39:56Speaker 3: throw that out there.
- 39:58Speaker 2: They could have connected it to the mycelium network and right, right,
- 40:06Speaker 2: and that would have been a good way also to
- 40:09Speaker 2: uh get rid of the jumping ability of discovery. Yeah,
- 40:14Speaker 2: because the writers really painted themselves in the corner with that.
- 40:18Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, you know, so.
- 40:22Speaker 2: Especially in Starfleet Academy, Can Discovery help us? No? Why not?
- 40:27Speaker 2: Well we got to come up with excuse every other episode.
- 40:31Speaker 3: That's right, that's right, dry dock.
- 40:35Speaker 2: Yeah, right now, we can't use it for reasons.
- 40:39Speaker 3: Yeah, it'd be hilarious and they would have been like, well,
- 40:42Speaker 3: the plot won't allow us to do it, right.
- 40:47Speaker 2: Yeah. I was a little disappointed that we didn't see Discovery.
- 40:51Speaker 2: I get why they didn't because it would have been
- 40:52Speaker 2: pretty expensive to bring partial Yeah. We I mean that
- 41:00Speaker 2: could have been honestly that they could have taken the
- 41:03Speaker 2: Enterprise D and and like doing done a little refit
- 41:06Speaker 2: and we wouldn't have noticed the difference.
- 41:09Speaker 3: Yeah. Man, you're always thinking about the d.
- 41:11Speaker 2: I'm always thinking about the d that's right.
- 41:15Speaker 3: Well, we got jobs joining us. Yeah, let me bring
- 41:19Speaker 3: him in here. He wants to be part of the discussion.
- 41:21Speaker 3: Jazz Viz. How are you doing? Are you sad after
- 41:25Speaker 3: the announcement.
- 41:28Speaker 2: Today?
- 41:29Speaker 4: So you're what I'm in mourning that they It was like,
- 41:34Speaker 4: oh no, yeah, can start. Starfeete Academy is over.
- 41:39Speaker 3: It's over. The long national nightmare is over.
- 41:43Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I mean.
- 41:49Speaker 4: Everybody saw the writing on the wall, like even in
- 41:51Speaker 4: the previews. Yeah, like uh, and it's like this is
- 41:57Speaker 4: what they're giving us, Like that could have done so
- 41:59Speaker 4: much more Starfleet Academy, like that could actually gone through
- 42:04Speaker 4: how their training really is. And they I don't know.
- 42:08Speaker 4: There's no philosophical moments in the show this season. Nothing.
- 42:15Speaker 3: The truck reviewer Discovery can't be used because there needed
- 42:17Speaker 3: to cut a pizza. What's hilarious about this is they
- 42:22Speaker 3: sent me, Yeah, a Discovery pizza cutter, did they really? Yeah?
- 42:29Speaker 3: I have one.
- 42:30Speaker 2: That's great. That's great. Yeah, I.
- 42:35Speaker 4: Think they had one like that. I don't think Geek
- 42:39Speaker 4: was open.
- 42:40Speaker 2: Yeah they have. And that that saucer section spins, doesn't
- 42:44Speaker 2: it right? Right?
- 42:46Speaker 4: Yes? Yeah, that worked perfectly?
- 42:47Speaker 2: Is pizza cutter?
- 42:49Speaker 3: Yeah in theory, but when I've tried cutting pizzas with it,
- 42:53Speaker 3: it's not that great.
- 42:54Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 42:54Speaker 4: I have an enterprise bottle opener.
- 42:56Speaker 3: So oh nice nice?
- 42:58Speaker 4: Yeah yeah works as the model of there, it's kind
- 43:01Speaker 4: of cool.
- 43:02Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 43:03Speaker 2: So now you have to get the programmable matter detachable
- 43:06Speaker 2: U cell version.
- 43:07Speaker 3: That's right. Do you think Alex Kurtzman's will get a
- 43:13Speaker 3: new Star Trek deal or just a regular deal.
- 43:16Speaker 4: I think his ten years over, it's it's you know,
- 43:20Speaker 4: he's he's done right now. They're gonna sunset him, and
- 43:25Speaker 4: then he'll probably be like J. J. Abrams, being Director's
- 43:28Speaker 4: Jail for a while, and then maybe five years from
- 43:32Speaker 4: now he'll do something else.
- 43:34Speaker 3: So well, I mean, he's got other shows that are
- 43:36Speaker 3: successful right now. So I don't think throwing him in
- 43:39Speaker 3: director's jail is the thing. Yeah, I think the focusing
- 43:45Speaker 3: him on other stuff.
- 43:46Speaker 2: M h. Yeah.
- 43:48Speaker 4: So they'll bring in somebody different, and let's hope whoever
- 43:51Speaker 4: they bring in is faithful to the source material, and
- 43:58Speaker 4: let's quit banking prequels and let's go forward.
- 44:03Speaker 3: Yeah. I think one of the things that they're going
- 44:08Speaker 3: to say, and I think you'll hear in the fallout
- 44:10Speaker 3: whenever we start hearing about it, is there going to
- 44:13Speaker 3: cite the cost of the show more than the rating,
- 44:17Speaker 3: which is a very fair point that the cost of
- 44:20Speaker 3: these shows in relation to the audience just isn't worth it.
- 44:25Speaker 4: Well, I mean, they looked great, but the thing is
- 44:30Speaker 4: is they never traveled anywhere. We never saw any strange
- 44:33Speaker 4: new worlds, never saw any different alien species, never really
- 44:37Speaker 4: saw anything, you know. Yeah, the one kidn't start Flight Academy.
- 44:41Speaker 4: He's a fish creature. But it only showed his face once,
- 44:46Speaker 4: Like that was what second episode or first episode you
- 44:49Speaker 4: got to see his face and then after that you
- 44:50Speaker 4: never got to see what his actual race looked like,
- 44:54Speaker 4: Oh yeah, yeah, well we got we got want and
- 44:57Speaker 4: everybody was you know, human when they went to his planet. Yeah.
- 45:03Speaker 4: I I was like, it's like, if you're gonna have
- 45:06Speaker 4: an alien world, you're gonna have an alien wedding, everybody.
- 45:08Speaker 3: Should be you know and something again. Yeah, well, I
- 45:13Speaker 3: think one of the big mistakes is that they they
- 45:17Speaker 3: interpreted wacky for interesting, yeah, in wacky is not.
- 45:22Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 45:23Speaker 4: I think the thing is they had too many lower
- 45:26Speaker 4: decks maybe writers on here, even though I love lower decks,
- 45:31Speaker 4: but it doesn't fit for a live action yea Our
- 45:34Speaker 4: Trek show correct, Like, I don't.
- 45:37Speaker 3: Doubt that they had a blast writing it, coming up
- 45:40Speaker 3: with wacky things for the aliens, but but that doesn't
- 45:44Speaker 3: translate to sci fi. That translates to comedy.
- 45:50Speaker 4: Yeah, and it's I don't know, well, it's kind of
- 45:53Speaker 4: like they try to do wacky this year on Strange
- 45:57Speaker 4: New Worlds and it didn't pay off either. On some.
- 46:02Speaker 2: And I don't know.
- 46:03Speaker 4: I wonder if they're rethinking some of the episodes next season,
- 46:07Speaker 4: like what are they gonna do?
- 46:08Speaker 3: I mean they got two.
- 46:11Speaker 2: I'm bracing.
- 46:12Speaker 4: Yeah, And that's the thing they're doing all these seasons.
- 46:15Speaker 4: But they can't course correct because they're all set on
- 46:18Speaker 4: one trajectory and they can't like, hey, we need to
- 46:22Speaker 4: back up here, reshoot, redo this.
- 46:24Speaker 3: You know, you would be amazed how much you can
- 46:27Speaker 3: get away with an editing and how much you can
- 46:30Speaker 3: change editing.
- 46:31Speaker 4: But let's let's well, and if they're gonna release the
- 46:36Speaker 4: second season of this show, at least give it closure. Yeah,
- 46:41Speaker 4: show them like where they wish.
- 46:42Speaker 2: They can with reshoots. They can do they can do
- 46:44Speaker 2: a two year time jump. They can do a graduation scene.
- 46:47Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 46:48Speaker 4: I would like to them graduate, and I like to
- 46:50Speaker 4: see them like go somewhere and what they do and
- 46:55Speaker 4: if they get promoted or whatever, they can play.
- 46:58Speaker 2: That Discovery will show up next season, Yeah, I think
- 47:02Speaker 2: there will be. I think there will be a graduation ceremony.
- 47:05Speaker 2: I think you're going to see an end montage of
- 47:08Speaker 2: you know, going off to different ships. I think you're
- 47:09Speaker 2: gonna see the new Voyager. I think you're gonna see Discovery.
- 47:12Speaker 2: I think you're gonna see you know, all these you know,
- 47:15Speaker 2: there was a like a uss dog. I think you know,
- 47:17Speaker 2: I think you're gonna see all these ships.
- 47:18Speaker 3: Which which graduation song are you gonna hear at the end?
- 47:21Speaker 3: Is it going to be that one from from Green Day?
- 47:24Speaker 3: Green Day going to be the Yeah time of your life? Yeah? Yeah,
- 47:31Speaker 3: there's all.
- 47:32Speaker 2: Sort of jumper. It's gonna be jumper from Third Eye Blood.
- 47:35Speaker 5: Yeah, there you go.
- 47:36Speaker 2: Which you would step back from this ledge by frame?
- 47:39Speaker 4: You know, it's got to be the Beastie Boys, Oh god, yeahs.
- 47:43Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, school or School's Out, Schools Out forever?
- 47:48Speaker 7: Yeah, oh, the trick reviewer.
- 47:51Speaker 3: Here's the thing. If you write good stories, you do
- 47:54Speaker 3: not need new you don't need special effects or c g.
- 47:57Speaker 3: Every episode that's true, that's right, that's one of a
- 48:00Speaker 3: bottle episode.
- 48:02Speaker 4: Some of the bottle episodes are the best.
- 48:04Speaker 3: Yeah, agreed, Yeah, yeah, they were the best.
- 48:09Speaker 4: They went on acting alone and writing.
- 48:12Speaker 3: Really good Drumhead. There's not a lot of special effects
- 48:15Speaker 3: on that show.
- 48:16Speaker 4: Oh yeah, and it's one of the most the one
- 48:19Speaker 4: where I if data is sentient or whatever, what's it called.
- 48:26Speaker 2: The measure of a man measure of a man.
- 48:31Speaker 3: I was thinking Data's Day, but I'm like, that's not
- 48:33Speaker 3: the one.
- 48:34Speaker 2: Yeah, Data's Day is one of my favorite episodes. And
- 48:38Speaker 2: then the other one that I just thought about was
- 48:40Speaker 2: Disaster is a fantastic episode.
- 48:46Speaker 4: What's the one is the d S nine episode where
- 48:49Speaker 4: the Pardassian is trying to act like he was the murderer.
- 48:54Speaker 4: It's like the first season.
- 48:55Speaker 2: Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 48:59Speaker 4: On Trial. I forget the name of the episode, and
- 49:01Speaker 4: it's it's freaking one of the best.
- 49:04Speaker 2: Yeah. He ends up getting killed at the end by
- 49:06Speaker 2: a Bajoran.
- 49:07Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 49:09Speaker 3: What's the episode where Goldycot wakes up Cure in the
- 49:12Speaker 3: middle of the night and says, Hey, I slept with
- 49:13Speaker 3: your mom. Hangs up.
- 49:16Speaker 2: I love that one. I'm my Voyager rewatch.
- 49:24Speaker 3: Imagine being in the writer's room, all right, I got
- 49:26Speaker 3: an idea for an episode.
- 49:30Speaker 4: Cares Mom and it's gonna be pissed at him.
- 49:32Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm about to do a d S nine rewatch.
- 49:38Speaker 2: So I'm I'm I'm watching. Uh, I'm watching. I'm almost
- 49:41Speaker 2: done with my Voyager rewatch. I'm I'm doing it, and
- 49:45Speaker 2: it's coinciding with my listening to uh the de Yeah,
- 49:49Speaker 2: they're about yeah, and they're doing and at the end
- 49:55Speaker 2: of their Voyager rewatch, they're they're gonna start up they
- 49:58Speaker 2: this I about two years behind on their podcast, but
- 50:04Speaker 2: right now they're about in season five or six of
- 50:07Speaker 2: Deep Phase nine currently. And so after they did Voyager,
- 50:12Speaker 2: they they they hooked up with I think armand Shimmerman
- 50:15Speaker 2: and Terry Farrell maybe Okay, they alternate doing Terry Farrell
- 50:21Speaker 2: and arm and Shimmerman and they rewatch each episode of
- 50:24Speaker 2: Deep Face nine.
- 50:25Speaker 4: See Soften and Nog were doing one and then you know,
- 50:29Speaker 4: Nog passed away halfway actually I think it was a
- 50:33Speaker 4: second season or so he passed away.
- 50:35Speaker 3: So earlier. The Star Trek viewer did ask a question,
- 50:39Speaker 3: and I meant to bring this up, but we were
- 50:41Speaker 3: talking about other stuff at the time, but he did ask.
- 50:44Speaker 3: So here's the question. Do they release all the Starfleet
- 50:46Speaker 3: Academy season two at one time instead of weekly weekly
- 50:51Speaker 3: and he spelled it as in week not.
- 50:56Speaker 4: Well, I bet, you know, yeah, I bet they dump
- 51:00Speaker 4: it all at once, like because some of the shows
- 51:03Speaker 4: they don't care about, they'll just.
- 51:06Speaker 2: There. I think that.
- 51:10Speaker 3: If if they do do the editing and actually make
- 51:14Speaker 3: it happen because that's millions and millions and millions of
- 51:17Speaker 3: dollars of investment to throw into a show that you've
- 51:21Speaker 3: already said is dead. Right, So I still I kind
- 51:26Speaker 3: of agree with Dan. I think putting it, you know,
- 51:29Speaker 3: batgirling it is is a possibility.
- 51:32Speaker 4: Well bunch of tax right off.
- 51:34Speaker 3: So with this, if they merge, yeah, that's the thing.
- 51:38Speaker 4: Because Oracles, you know, stock's gone down quite a bit.
- 51:41Speaker 3: And right yeah, they're gonna have.
- 51:46Speaker 2: They're gonna have to bring some closure to it because
- 51:48Speaker 2: if they just ended on you know on okay, see
- 51:50Speaker 2: you next year, or god forbid a cliffhanger.
- 51:53Speaker 3: Well, here's the thing. Allegedly all the the sets have
- 51:57Speaker 3: already been put into storage. So it's not as simple
- 52:00Speaker 3: as let's just go do reshoots. It's we have to
- 52:03Speaker 3: get pull the sets back out. We have to rebuild,
- 52:06Speaker 3: like that whole machine to create Star Trek has been
- 52:12Speaker 3: shut down. So if you're going to go do research
- 52:16Speaker 3: reshoots for like a week or two, it's getting the
- 52:19Speaker 3: entire crew back because now at this point the crew
- 52:22Speaker 3: is onto other jobs, right. It's getting all the departments
- 52:26Speaker 3: up and running because they've they've had to have closed
- 52:29Speaker 3: down their offices too. It's not just that the sets
- 52:32Speaker 3: are down, so it's it's firing up that whole big
- 52:36Speaker 3: machine instead of like we'll bring the actor in and
- 52:39Speaker 3: have them do a voice line and we'll just cut
- 52:41Speaker 3: away to a starship or something while their voice line
- 52:43Speaker 3: says something.
- 52:45Speaker 2: Right. And it's not like any other show can help
- 52:47Speaker 2: them out either. It's not like Strange New Worlds can
- 52:51Speaker 2: help them tie up loose ends, right, you know, Star
- 52:54Speaker 2: Trek Legacy can't help them tie up loose ends. Yeah, exactly,
- 52:58Speaker 2: you know, unless they did some kind of time travel episode.
- 53:00Speaker 2: But how ridiculous would that be?
- 53:03Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 53:04Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't see that. That's leading me to believe
- 53:07Speaker 2: more and more that they are gonna uh batgirl it
- 53:11Speaker 2: because especially if they did some kind of uh you know,
- 53:16Speaker 2: the thing where the last episode is a cliffhanger. I mean,
- 53:21Speaker 2: that's gonna be so disappointed. Yeah, and if and if
- 53:24Speaker 2: they try to edit the cliffhanger out, it's gonna it's
- 53:28Speaker 2: gonna be a disaster.
- 53:29Speaker 4: I I okay, gonna show up at the end.
- 53:34Speaker 3: Let me have this all right, complete conspiracy. This is
- 53:37Speaker 3: based off of nothing, you know, one hundred you know,
- 53:41Speaker 3: grain of salt. But if you're Paramount and you're negotiating
- 53:44Speaker 3: with Alex Kurtzman. Because one of the other issues is
- 53:47Speaker 3: allegedly the the the way the contract was written to
- 53:51Speaker 3: seek rideout is any characters or or shows they created.
- 53:56Speaker 3: They maintained the characters too, So in the future right
- 54:01Speaker 3: now as it sits, allegedly, Paramount cannot use Discovery or
- 54:06Speaker 3: or Strange New Worlds any of those characters right that
- 54:11Speaker 3: weren't previously a part of Star Trek, So they could
- 54:16Speaker 3: be hanging over Alex Kurtzman head. Look, you want season
- 54:20Speaker 3: two to come out, you got to give us back
- 54:23Speaker 3: the rights. We maintain all the rights, we clean up
- 54:26Speaker 3: the IP issues, we own it all straight forward, and
- 54:30Speaker 3: then we will let season two come out. I could
- 54:34Speaker 3: see that happening. And then the fact that they said
- 54:36Speaker 3: it's over is also another thing over them, saying, look,
- 54:40Speaker 3: do you want this thing to come out or not?
- 54:42Speaker 3: Because it doesn't have to.
- 54:45Speaker 2: You know, yeah, understand there's already an online petition to
- 54:48Speaker 2: bring to save it.
- 54:50Speaker 3: Yeah there is.
- 54:51Speaker 4: Well I mean that, Yeah, if you shot it, just
- 54:54Speaker 4: just release it and at least give it closure. I'd say, like,
- 54:58Speaker 4: at least have it in see where the kids go Yeah,
- 55:04Speaker 4: I'll be the end of that era and then we'll
- 55:07Speaker 4: move along from there.
- 55:08Speaker 2: They're gonna have to spend some money to do it.
- 55:11Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I'm pointing in some shots.
- 55:13Speaker 4: It's like, if it's already shot, just either finish it or.
- 55:18Speaker 3: So there's the petition. It's sitting at nineteen thousand, four
- 55:21Speaker 3: hundred and sixty.
- 55:22Speaker 2: One the viewers, viewers, that's every viewer.
- 55:28Speaker 3: Whi's really funny is like two three days ago when
- 55:31Speaker 3: this went live, Like I watched it for a couple
- 55:34Speaker 3: of days, and it was like at one thousand, fifteen hundred,
- 55:39Speaker 3: and then only recently did it really just shoot up.
- 55:43Speaker 2: You know who we should put on this if we
- 55:45Speaker 2: want this to gain some momentum?
- 55:47Speaker 3: Who's that?
- 55:47Speaker 2: We should put my wife on it? Because I have
- 55:51Speaker 2: she's really good at skewing the results of these kinds
- 55:55Speaker 2: of things, So we should.
- 55:56Speaker 3: That's right, That's right.
- 55:57Speaker 2: She talked to her. If we want to save Starfleet, Academy.
- 56:00Speaker 4: Shall have her pot form working on its three hundred
- 56:05Speaker 4: cell phones like different IP addresses.
- 56:11Speaker 3: Yeah, so what do we got left? We've got three seasons, right,
- 56:15Speaker 3: We've got two seasons of Strange New Worlds. We got
- 56:19Speaker 3: one season of Starfleet Academy allegedly, and then that's it, man.
- 56:25Speaker 4: Kind of sad, Yeah, it really is.
- 56:28Speaker 3: This is the first time in a decade new, no,
- 56:30Speaker 3: new Star Trek is in production.
- 56:34Speaker 4: Did you think a decade ago you would crane when
- 56:38Speaker 4: you heard a new Star Trek show, a new Star
- 56:41Speaker 4: Wars show, a new Marvel no, a new Lord of
- 56:45Speaker 4: the Rings project. Because a lot of people are about
- 56:48Speaker 4: that right now, you like, not another It's just like
- 56:54Speaker 4: we almost see news.
- 56:56Speaker 3: To be honest with you, Yeah, here's the big question.
- 56:59Speaker 3: I want to ask that now that you know, let
- 57:03Speaker 3: let's hypothetically if this is over, if if the Kurtzman
- 57:06Speaker 3: era of Star Trek is over, was it a success?
- 57:10Speaker 3: What is it a failure? Or was it just maintaining
- 57:13Speaker 3: the status quo? What do you guys think? It's hard
- 57:21Speaker 3: to say, man, well, it's not hard to say. Personally,
- 57:24Speaker 3: I think it's a failure. Personally, I think it's a
- 57:28Speaker 3: failure because they went in with the mandate right when
- 57:31Speaker 3: when he first signed on, the mandate was expand the
- 57:34Speaker 3: fan base grow it. You know, the the movies at
- 57:39Speaker 3: this point had had done a pretty good job of
- 57:42Speaker 3: introducing Star Trek and now the point was to keep it,
- 57:45Speaker 3: keep it going, and now we're in an error where
- 57:50Speaker 3: the shows are not breaking into the top ten, very
- 57:54Speaker 3: few of them have. It just never was as popular
- 57:57Speaker 3: as it could have been.
- 57:59Speaker 4: And if this saw on network TV, they were would
- 58:01Speaker 4: already pulled it maybe second or third.
- 58:03Speaker 3: Oh yeah, yeah, the merc guys, he isn't there.
- 58:07Speaker 4: Yeah, you know.
- 58:08Speaker 3: They they did one official Star Trek convention. We went
- 58:13Speaker 3: to it, strong Beard and yeah, the one in Chicago. Yeah,
- 58:17Speaker 3: they did one official convention. They said they were going
- 58:19Speaker 3: to do another one and they never did it. Like
- 58:22Speaker 3: it just it never grew.
- 58:25Speaker 2: Well. That one that the the it wasn't debund done
- 58:28Speaker 2: by the same people. But the one Star Trek convention
- 58:30Speaker 2: I went to in Chicago last year was official. Yeah,
- 58:36Speaker 2: but it's it was inconsistent. It was I don't know,
- 58:43Speaker 2: I it I would like to have seen it advertised more.
- 58:49Speaker 2: I found out about it kind of last minute. Yeah,
- 58:55Speaker 2: you know, there was a little bit of confusion at
- 58:57Speaker 2: the place about what was going on. It was. It
- 58:59Speaker 2: wasn't done like a typical like comic con. It was,
- 59:05Speaker 2: so it was a little bit The way they had
- 59:07Speaker 2: it going on was a little bit confusing. But I
- 59:10Speaker 2: think once they do a few more of them, they'll
- 59:11Speaker 2: you know, kind of get everything, you know, nice and
- 59:15Speaker 2: and polished.
- 59:17Speaker 3: But a Waiting Game makes a really good point. When
- 59:20Speaker 3: your latest show doesn't even trend on your own platform,
- 59:24Speaker 3: your show is dead.
- 59:25Speaker 4: Yeah yeah, all like when when you have like old
- 59:30Speaker 4: TV shows, old movies. Yes, yeah, and you're like wow O.
- 59:40Speaker 3: Trek reviewer gives this the Kurtzman era and f and
- 59:45Speaker 3: A Waiting Game says it's gigantic failure creatively, business wise,
- 59:49Speaker 3: ratings and everything.
- 59:50Speaker 4: Uh, how do you feel about the the other fan
- 59:54Speaker 4: base that like likes everything that Star Trek puts out.
- 59:57Speaker 4: You know, Star Trek can't do anything wrong, but they're
- 1:00:00Speaker 4: coming after rest and blaming us for the cancelation of
- 1:00:04Speaker 4: the show. How do you feel about that?
- 1:00:05Speaker 2: I it's all Trek casts fault.
- 1:00:10Speaker 4: Yeah, they're doing it to all the other podcasts too,
- 1:00:14Speaker 4: that are you know, blaming Kurtzman And you're like, well,
- 1:00:17Speaker 4: you got to put the finger at someone that hates said.
- 1:00:19Speaker 2: Look, we're not the only ones that had this opinion
- 1:00:21Speaker 2: of this show is crap.
- 1:00:22Speaker 3: Yeah, and there wasn't.
- 1:00:24Speaker 2: Not all of it was crap, and not all parts
- 1:00:26Speaker 2: of it were crap. We we just said at the
- 1:00:28Speaker 2: beginning of the show. We liked the acting, we liked
- 1:00:30Speaker 2: the you know, certain parts of it. Yeah, it looked great.
- 1:00:34Speaker 3: The looks were amazing, Like the shows looked amazing, all
- 1:00:39Speaker 3: of them, even of Academy, Like it had a great look.
- 1:00:42Speaker 3: But but that wasn't enough, Like.
- 1:00:45Speaker 4: No, you have something spend that camera around like thirty times.
- 1:00:50Speaker 3: Yeah, and you know, I didn't agree with every like story, storyline, structures,
- 1:00:58Speaker 3: the way like like when they had what's her name
- 1:01:01Speaker 3: Sam talked to the camera, you know and do that,
- 1:01:05Speaker 3: Like that's not something I would have written. But at
- 1:01:09Speaker 3: least they tried something different with such an old show.
- 1:01:13Speaker 3: So that's cool. They're taking swings. But but it just
- 1:01:19Speaker 3: didn't work. Yeah, it was just it just didn't work.
- 1:01:24Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:01:27Speaker 3: I think the other thing you can argue is, look,
- 1:01:31Speaker 3: Kurtzman has been at this for about ten years, right
- 1:01:33Speaker 3: with Star Trek. I don't care how good of a
- 1:01:36Speaker 3: producer you are, ten years of making a show, stay
- 1:01:39Speaker 3: at top. It's it's a very difficult thing to do
- 1:01:43Speaker 3: multiple and multiple shows. So a million, yeah, multimillion dollars.
- 1:01:50Speaker 4: Look at the cost of Section thirty one last year. Yeah, well,
- 1:01:57Speaker 4: that's was that in the one hundred million. It was
- 1:02:00Speaker 4: because they paid out Michelle Yo twelve million dollars. Yeah,
- 1:02:03Speaker 4: it was just a one off and it was completely awful.
- 1:02:07Speaker 2: I felt so bad for her too, because she's she's
- 1:02:10Speaker 2: got a lot of talent.
- 1:02:11Speaker 4: She paid, she took the money and Ry and I
- 1:02:15Speaker 4: don't blame the money. And ran I was like, twelve
- 1:02:19Speaker 4: min okay, you know, yeah, it's like I'll be in
- 1:02:22Speaker 4: a bad project.
- 1:02:23Speaker 3: Was Michael Kane was in uh, I want to say
- 1:02:26Speaker 3: he was in Jaws three, the Revenge. Yeah, and they
- 1:02:30Speaker 3: asked him like, what was it like making such a
- 1:02:32Speaker 3: terrible movie and he was all like, oh, I don't
- 1:02:36Speaker 3: you know. I don't really know, but I'll tell you
- 1:02:37Speaker 3: about the house I bought with.
- 1:02:38Speaker 2: The check, right, yeah, the.
- 1:02:41Speaker 4: Bahamas or or whatever.
- 1:02:43Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:02:44Speaker 4: Yeah, they had like a really cool destination. Yeah, it
- 1:02:47Speaker 4: was actually kind of nice.
- 1:02:49Speaker 2: Yeah. Harrison Ford said something similar. He's like, don't you
- 1:02:51Speaker 2: feel silly when you're playing like the Red Hulk and
- 1:02:54Speaker 2: blah blah. He goes, that's what the money's for.
- 1:02:58Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, and get off excuse a matter of fact?
- 1:03:04Speaker 2: Yeahs yeah, yeah, when you're backing up Briggs trucks to
- 1:03:10Speaker 2: your house. It's like, uh, yeah, I don't feel so
- 1:03:13Speaker 2: silly anymore. Yeah.
- 1:03:14Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm sure his wife and kids are like thanks dad.
- 1:03:18Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:03:20Speaker 2: But well I've got two things at the end here. Yeah,
- 1:03:24Speaker 2: go bring up two things. I don't know if we're
- 1:03:26Speaker 2: winding down one. Okay. I had mentioned to you offline
- 1:03:31Speaker 2: that I was gonna mention a little a little new
- 1:03:34Speaker 2: segment that I was just gonna bring up Trek birthdays
- 1:03:37Speaker 2: if anybody would be And I was just gonna mention
- 1:03:41Speaker 2: half a dozen March birthdays since we're coming up on
- 1:03:43Speaker 2: the end of March. I was just gonna mention some birthdays,
- 1:03:47Speaker 2: notable birthdays, Trek birthdays and March Gates, McFadden, James Doing,
- 1:03:54Speaker 2: John Delancy. We all know these names. Michael Westmore, he
- 1:03:59Speaker 2: was he's a makeup designer for TG AT D S nine,
- 1:04:03Speaker 2: DC Fontana h She was an author in T O
- 1:04:07Speaker 2: S and TG Leonard moy and Big Papa himself. William
- 1:04:15Speaker 2: Shatner turned ninety five on the twenty second of March.
- 1:04:22Speaker 2: Those are those are all the birthdays.
- 1:04:23Speaker 3: For Mars for them, That's right. So there we go.
- 1:04:29Speaker 2: You need and uh, I have a news story I
- 1:04:33Speaker 2: wanted to bring up to this was this was a
- 1:04:36Speaker 2: big one. Okay, so, uh, Firefly is back.
- 1:04:43Speaker 3: Oh yeah, I saw that.
- 1:04:45Speaker 2: Yes, Firefly is back. Nathan Fillion miss uh there, Well
- 1:04:50Speaker 2: yeah they're missing Uh so okay, so this comes back
- 1:04:54Speaker 2: to uh yeah, they're coming back. It's on TikTok and
- 1:04:59Speaker 2: all the art form video platforms. Nathan Fillion, who played
- 1:05:03Speaker 2: Captain mal Reynolds, Malcolm Reynolds, you know him, he's on
- 1:05:08Speaker 2: the rookie. He's been doing these little short films where
- 1:05:13Speaker 2: he's been filming himself going up and knocking on doors
- 1:05:18Speaker 2: to all of his former cast mates of Firefly and
- 1:05:21Speaker 2: teasing something. And they've been opening the door and saying,
- 1:05:24Speaker 2: oh is it time, Yes, it's time. And every single
- 1:05:31Speaker 2: cast member, with one notable exception, Ron Glass, who's a
- 1:05:36Speaker 2: Star Trek alumni who unfortunately passed away a few years ago,
- 1:05:41Speaker 2: has been in this teaser and up until it was
- 1:05:45Speaker 2: some kind of con Mega Con or Dragon Con or
- 1:05:48Speaker 2: comic Con something. That was last week. They announced what
- 1:05:53Speaker 2: it was and there was a lot of speculation. Is
- 1:05:56Speaker 2: it a bobblehead, is it a podcast? Is it offs
- 1:06:00Speaker 2: over comic book? Uh? No, they are going to do
- 1:06:05Speaker 2: an animated series for Firefly that takes place between the
- 1:06:13Speaker 2: one season of Firefly and the movie Serenity, and it's
- 1:06:18Speaker 2: going to fill in that gap. They're gonna have that's yes. Yes,
- 1:06:24Speaker 2: I was like, wait, like, so that's how wash wash
- 1:06:29Speaker 2: is going to be back and they're gonna have They're
- 1:06:32Speaker 2: going to recast Shepherd book.
- 1:06:34Speaker 3: That's right.
- 1:06:34Speaker 2: So that's right. So yeah, Firefly, Firefly's back, baby. Yeah.
- 1:06:40Speaker 4: I think that that's a show that would have made
- 1:06:43Speaker 4: it on streaming.
- 1:06:44Speaker 3: Yeah, politically, John will not be part.
- 1:06:47Speaker 4: Of the viewership and it just did not take off,
- 1:06:50Speaker 4: and that could have gone so much further.
- 1:06:54Speaker 2: No, Josh Whedon won't be part of it. Uh. From
- 1:06:57Speaker 2: what the rumors say is that they have his blessing
- 1:06:59Speaker 2: though he's.
- 1:07:00Speaker 3: Yeah, they apparently they have his blessing. There are reports
- 1:07:04Speaker 3: that that Joss Whedon actually is still pretty active in Hollywood,
- 1:07:08Speaker 3: but that he does everything as a ghostwriter.
- 1:07:11Speaker 2: Mm hmm okay, so yeah, And it sounds like Nathan
- 1:07:15Speaker 2: Filling himself is doing a lot of the writing, especially
- 1:07:17Speaker 2: for the pilot, and it looks like the first episode
- 1:07:21Speaker 2: has already written.
- 1:07:22Speaker 3: Yeah, and I'm sure they have writers that help him out.
- 1:07:26Speaker 4: Oh, yeah, Yeah, who's gonna produce it and who's going.
- 1:07:31Speaker 2: To they are? They said, I Yeah, they said they've
- 1:07:34Speaker 2: got showrunners, they've got backing. I think Disney owns all
- 1:07:37Speaker 2: the properties now.
- 1:07:38Speaker 4: So they got like the Vampire Slayer, like they had
- 1:07:41Speaker 4: that all written and they're about to start shooting.
- 1:07:45Speaker 3: Does that make River Tam a Disney princess?
- 1:07:48Speaker 2: I think it does. I think that. Yeah, so everybody's
- 1:07:53Speaker 2: excited about that. Hmm. Yeah, they're they're bringing everybody back.
- 1:07:58Speaker 2: Yeah everybody. So yes.
- 1:08:01Speaker 4: I saw the movie before I ever saw the same
- 1:08:04Speaker 4: a lot of people did. Everybody was talking about this
- 1:08:06Speaker 4: movie and I was like, there's a TV show. I
- 1:08:08Speaker 4: had no idea.
- 1:08:10Speaker 3: I thought the movie was great man walking in not
- 1:08:12Speaker 3: knowing anything.
- 1:08:13Speaker 4: Yeah, I went in there completely blind, knowing absolutely nothing.
- 1:08:18Speaker 3: Yeah. Buddy who loved Firefly and he was like grinning
- 1:08:22Speaker 3: ear to ear because he knew all the references. And
- 1:08:24Speaker 3: I was like, I have no idea what's going on?
- 1:08:25Speaker 3: But this is awesome?
- 1:08:27Speaker 2: Yeah. I I downloaded I think I illegally downloaded all
- 1:08:32Speaker 2: the episodes onto my iPod ok and I watched it
- 1:08:38Speaker 2: on that two inch screen when I was overseas, and
- 1:08:42Speaker 2: I must have watched the series the thirteen episode series
- 1:08:46Speaker 2: a dozen times on my little iPod.
- 1:08:50Speaker 3: You know, man, you were just dating yourself left and right.
- 1:08:55Speaker 2: I know, I know this, yeah, back in like wait oh.
- 1:08:58Speaker 7: Yeah, so yeah, it's not as bad as watching paper
- 1:09:03Speaker 7: V with the little squiggly line.
- 1:09:07Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:09:07Speaker 4: Yeah, scramble like I almost get half the movie.
- 1:09:10Speaker 3: Hey man, I used to watch movies on my zoom.
- 1:09:14Speaker 2: Oh yeah, okay, I have. Yeah. People were making fun
- 1:09:18Speaker 2: of me overseas, are like, oh, you got yourself an iPod.
- 1:09:21Speaker 2: The zoon is the thing that's really going to take off,
- 1:09:23Speaker 2: and I'm like, whatever, I loved my zoo.
- 1:09:26Speaker 8: Man.
- 1:09:29Speaker 2: So this summer, my my son's coming home from college.
- 1:09:31Speaker 2: She's gonna be nice moving back in here. We're all
- 1:09:35Speaker 2: gonna be sitting down and watching h the whole series together.
- 1:09:38Speaker 2: Firefls coming back, that's right, he's coming back from Starfleet Academy,
- 1:09:42Speaker 2: and uh, we're gonna be watching Firefly all the way
- 1:09:46Speaker 2: through and surendity. So I'm very excited because it's to me,
- 1:09:49Speaker 2: it's the single greatest season of television ever. Ye come
- 1:09:53Speaker 2: from a Star Trek fan.
- 1:09:54Speaker 3: As we're wrapping up, I gotta make a recommendation out
- 1:09:57Speaker 3: in the movie theaters right now. I just went nice Undertone.
- 1:10:02Speaker 3: If you're a horror fan.
- 1:10:04Speaker 4: Yeah, you're gonna say Project Till Mary.
- 1:10:06Speaker 3: No, I might be going to see that tonight.
- 1:10:09Speaker 4: Oh my gosh, it's so good.
- 1:10:10Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:10:11Speaker 2: No, we might go see that too next weekend.
- 1:10:15Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:10:17Speaker 3: Undertone is a very cheap horror film that was made.
- 1:10:21Speaker 3: I think they made it for like about five hundred
- 1:10:23Speaker 3: thousand dollars, which is like nothing for a movie. And like,
- 1:10:28Speaker 3: I am very desensitive to horror films, right, Like I
- 1:10:31Speaker 3: I love them. I watch them all the time. Nothing
- 1:10:34Speaker 3: scares me. This is the first movie in years, literal
- 1:10:37Speaker 3: years that really creeped me out.
- 1:10:41Speaker 2: M Yeah. So I will pass that on to my wife.
- 1:10:45Speaker 4: Yeah, it's showing ten ten pm tonight if I go see.
- 1:10:49Speaker 3: It Undertone, Yeah, yeah.
- 1:10:52Speaker 2: She loves horror films. I can't stand them.
- 1:10:55Speaker 4: Yeah, I know my wife hates horror films.
- 1:10:58Speaker 8: Dude.
- 1:10:58Speaker 3: It is creepy. It is so done, honestly, Like, if
- 1:11:02Speaker 3: you want to watch it at home, it's not gonna
- 1:11:05Speaker 3: have the same effect because a lot of this movie
- 1:11:08Speaker 3: is dependent on audio, Like it's it's an audio based movie,
- 1:11:13Speaker 3: and so the sound in the theater, especially in that
- 1:11:16Speaker 3: dark room really amplifies the scary. So if you're gonna
- 1:11:20Speaker 3: watch it, highly suggest in the theaters.
- 1:11:23Speaker 2: Okay, okay, yeah, so all right, well I guess that.
- 1:11:28Speaker 4: In it just sucks as at ten ten pm. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:11:32Speaker 4: that's kind of a bad time.
- 1:11:34Speaker 2: It means we'll get out of.
- 1:11:35Speaker 3: There about midnight. Yeah, it's only like an hour and
- 1:11:39Speaker 3: the movie, Yeah.
- 1:11:41Speaker 4: They like those twenty five minutes worth of preview.
- 1:11:43Speaker 3: That's true, so you're looking at it about two hours.
- 1:11:46Speaker 3: But yes, yeah, but.
- 1:11:48Speaker 4: Hey see Project Hill Mary if you haven't seen it, Yeah, yeah,
- 1:11:51Speaker 4: it is excellent movie. Have you seen The Popcorn Bucket? Yes, yes,
- 1:11:57Speaker 4: it's well that is probably the best movie I've seen
- 1:12:00Speaker 4: all year. I mean talking about like if you like
- 1:12:04Speaker 4: sci fi.
- 1:12:05Speaker 3: Yeah, oh I want to see it. I just haven't yet.
- 1:12:10Speaker 4: And the book's great too. I mean I can't put
- 1:12:12Speaker 4: that book down when.
- 1:12:13Speaker 2: I read it. We're thinking about going to see it.
- 1:12:14Speaker 2: There's actually a couple of towns over there's a drive
- 1:12:17Speaker 2: in movie theater that's nice playing it. I've never been
- 1:12:20Speaker 2: to a drive in movie theater. And my wife mentioned it.
- 1:12:23Speaker 6: Oh she wants to dig you to drive in huh yeah.
- 1:12:28Speaker 3: Yeah, things are getting serious.
- 1:12:30Speaker 2: Yep, I guess yeah, yeah, you're.
- 1:12:34Speaker 3: Like they've been married for years. I guess I don't know.
- 1:12:37Speaker 4: I got your popcornbucket right here.
