- 0:01Speaker 1: Welcome to Real Talk with Mike D. Alright, welcome back
- 0:07Speaker 1: to Real Talk with Mike D. I am the one,
- 0:09Speaker 1: the only, and the original Mike D. Where we say
- 0:13Speaker 1: what we mean, we mean what we say, and sometimes
- 0:17Speaker 1: we need a cup of coffee before we're emotionally prepared
- 0:20Speaker 1: to do either one. And today, ladies and gentlemen, we're
- 0:24Speaker 1: talking about something extremely important, something powerful, something that has
- 0:28Speaker 1: gotten millions of people through early mornings, long work days,
- 0:32Speaker 1: bad moods, traffic, meetings, responsibilities, and the people who just
- 0:36Speaker 1: won't shut up. That's right. I am talking about coffee.
- 0:41Speaker 1: And I'm just going to say it right here, right now.
- 0:45Speaker 1: Coffee is God. Now, before anybody gets offended, let me
- 0:50Speaker 1: explain myself. I'm not saying coffee literally created the universe. Although,
- 0:57Speaker 1: have you ever had that first sip at 5 o'clock
- 0:58Speaker 1: in the morning? You might swear it did. Because before
- 1:03Speaker 1: that first sip, you're barely a human being. You're just
- 1:07Speaker 1: a body walking around with responsibilities. Your eyes are open,
- 1:12Speaker 1: but your brain is still loading. You don't want to talk.
- 1:16Speaker 1: You don't want to think. You don't want to hear
- 1:18Speaker 1: about anybody's problems. Hell, you don't even want to hear
- 1:21Speaker 1: about your own problems. And then you take that first
- 1:23Speaker 1: sip and suddenly, boom, you get your life back. You
- 1:28Speaker 1: have thoughts. You have opinions. You might even have hopes.
- 1:32Speaker 1: That is powerful. Think about what coffee does for us.
- 1:36Speaker 1: Coffee doesn't ask questions. Coffee doesn't judge you. Coffee doesn't
- 1:41Speaker 1: care what kind of day you're having. You can wake
- 1:45Speaker 1: up miserable. You can wake up exhausted. You can wake
- 1:48Speaker 1: up wondering how in the hell you're going to make
- 1:51Speaker 1: it through this day. And coffee is sitting there like,
- 1:56Speaker 1: don't worry, Mike. I got you. Now that's friendship. That's loyalty.
- 2:01Speaker 1: That is commitment. And that is a relationship I can
- 2:06Speaker 1: depend on. You know who else shows up in the morning? Coffee. Rain. Snow.
- 2:16Speaker 1: Monday mornings, maybe you're having a bad day. Maybe you're
- 2:22Speaker 1: having a great day. Maybe you're going to work. Maybe
- 2:26Speaker 1: you're coming home from work. But you know what? Coffee
- 2:30Speaker 1: always puts you in a great day. You know? Because
- 2:36Speaker 1: I think coffee is secretly in charge. And let's talk
- 2:41Speaker 1: about the first cup in the morning. There's something almost
- 2:43Speaker 1: spiritual about it. You get up, you walk into the kitchen,
- 2:47Speaker 1: you're still half asleep, you turn on the coffee maker,
- 2:52Speaker 1: and then you hear it, that beautiful, beautiful sound. The
- 2:56Speaker 1: coffee is brewing. The smell starts filling the room, and
- 3:02Speaker 1: you're standing there like, yep, now this is what I'm
- 3:05Speaker 1: talking about. And you haven't even taken a sip yet,
- 3:10Speaker 1: but you're almost feeling better. That's not a beverage. Ladies
- 3:15Speaker 1: and gentlemen, that is an experience. That is therapy in
- 3:19Speaker 1: a mug. And let's be honest. Some people don't even
- 3:23Speaker 1: want to talk to you until they've had their first cup.
- 3:26Speaker 1: I am one of them. If you see me early
- 3:30Speaker 1: in the morning and I don't have my coffee in
- 3:32Speaker 1: my hand, you better keep walking. I'm not mad at you.
- 3:36Speaker 1: I'm not ignoring you. I am just not operational yet.
- 3:42Speaker 1: Come back in 15 minutes. Probably with coffee. Coffee has
- 3:48Speaker 1: taught us something about life. Sometimes you just need to
- 3:51Speaker 1: take things one cup at a time. You don't have
- 3:55Speaker 1: to figure everything out at 7 o'clock in the morning.
- 3:57Speaker 1: You don't have to solve every problem. You don't have
- 4:01Speaker 1: to know exactly where your life is going. Sometimes you
- 4:04Speaker 1: just need to sit down, drink your coffee, take a
- 4:07Speaker 1: breath and say, Okay, let's see what today brings. And
- 4:13Speaker 1: that's something I think we forget. We're always rushing. We're
- 4:16Speaker 1: always worrying about tomorrow. We're thinking about everything in our life.
- 4:22Speaker 1: And sometimes that cup of coffee gives you five quiet minutes.
- 4:27Speaker 1: And believe me, I think I can speak for everybody.
- 4:30Speaker 1: We all need five quiet minutes in the morning. Five
- 4:35Speaker 1: minutes where nobody needs anything from you. Five minutes where
- 4:38Speaker 1: you can just sit there and breathe. And maybe that's
- 4:43Speaker 1: why we love coffee so much. It's not just the caffeine.
- 4:47Speaker 1: It's the ritual. It's the pause. It's that moment of
- 4:51Speaker 1: peace before the world starts demanding things from you. And
- 4:56Speaker 1: now let's talk about coffee at work. Oh, man. I
- 5:00Speaker 1: know we all need coffee when we're working. I can't
- 5:03Speaker 1: make it through a day without having coffee. Coffee at
- 5:08Speaker 1: work is different. You can walk into work completely exhausted.
- 5:13Speaker 1: You don't want to be there. And you might be
- 5:15Speaker 1: thinking to yourself, why am I awake right now? Then
- 5:22Speaker 1: somebody says, you want a cup of coffee? And you're like, yes.
- 5:27Speaker 1: Suddenly we're co-workers again. We're friends. We're functioning members of society.
- 5:33Speaker 1: You give me coffee and I might actually listen to
- 5:36Speaker 1: what you're saying. That is a miracle. Then there's always
- 5:42Speaker 1: that one person at work who says, I don't drink coffee.
- 5:47Speaker 1: I don't understand those people. I don't trust those people. Well,
- 5:53Speaker 1: shut up! Go drink tea then. How do you wake
- 6:00Speaker 1: up and just raw dog in the morning? How? You
- 6:05Speaker 1: wake up, you get dressed, you walk outside and face
- 6:08Speaker 1: the world with absolutely no caffeine. That is courage. Or
- 6:15Speaker 1: is that insanity? I'm not sure which one that is.
- 6:17Speaker 1: And you know what? How many forms does coffee come in?
- 6:25Speaker 1: Black coffee? I can't drink black coffee. Cream and sugar?
- 6:32Speaker 1: Ice coffee? Flavored coffee? Espresso and cappuccino? Latte or cold brew?
- 6:41Speaker 1: What is your favorite? Because there's basically a coffee for
- 6:45Speaker 1: every personality. And don't even get me started on the size. Small, medium, large,
- 6:53Speaker 1: extra large. Then there's a size where the cup is
- 6:57Speaker 1: basically a bucket. How can you drink a bucket of coffee?
- 7:02Speaker 1: You order it and the person behind the counter looks
- 7:04Speaker 1: at you like, are you planning on sleeping tonight? No. No,
- 7:08Speaker 1: I'm not. I got things to do. But here's the
- 7:13Speaker 1: real reason I think coffee is so important. Coffee represents
- 7:18Speaker 1: something bigger. It represents getting up and trying again. Every
- 7:24Speaker 1: morning you wake up, and regardless of what happened yesterday,
- 7:27Speaker 1: you get another day. Maybe yesterday sucked. Maybe yesterday was stressful.
- 7:35Speaker 1: Maybe you made a lot of mistakes. And maybe things
- 7:39Speaker 1: didn't go the way you wanted. Maybe you're dealing with
- 7:42Speaker 1: stuff that nobody else knows about. But you woke up
- 7:46Speaker 1: and you made your coffee and you take that first
- 7:49Speaker 1: sip and you say, all right, today's a new day.
- 7:53Speaker 1: Let's try it again. That's powerful. Because life isn't always easy.
- 7:59Speaker 1: Sometimes life beats the hell out of you. Sometimes you
- 8:03Speaker 1: feel exhausted. Sometimes you feel like you're carrying the weight
- 8:06Speaker 1: of the world on your shoulders. And sometimes the best
- 8:10Speaker 1: you can do is get out of bed, make a
- 8:12Speaker 1: cup of coffee, and take the next step. And you
- 8:16Speaker 1: know what? That is enough. You don't have to conquer
- 8:22Speaker 1: the world today. You just need to get through today.
- 8:25Speaker 1: One cup, one breath, one step, one day at a time.
- 8:32Speaker 1: Ladies and gentlemen, I hope you all have a wonderful Monday.
- 8:37Speaker 1: Go get that cup of coffee, take five minutes to
- 8:40Speaker 1: yourself and just relax in complete silence. If you don't
- 8:47Speaker 1: drink coffee, get a beverage of your choice and just
- 8:51Speaker 1: take that five minutes to just relax. No sound, no talking,
- 9:01Speaker 1: just you. That's going to do it for today. I
- 9:07Speaker 1: greatly appreciate you all being here. I greatly appreciate you listening.
- 9:11Speaker 1: And until the next episode, please be the reason someone smiles. Peace!
