- 0:16Speaker 1: I don't know if you know this about us, but
- 0:17Speaker 1: we hear we like anime. We also like spoiling anime,
- 0:21Speaker 1: which we're gonna be doing a ton of in this video.
- 0:23Speaker 1: But you know, anime is pretty great, full of so
- 0:26Speaker 1: much action and in a lot of other cases, full
- 0:28Speaker 1: of so much heart and emotion. But among the many
- 0:30Speaker 1: emotions that anime tends to play on, one of the
- 0:32Speaker 1: biggest is our sense of sorrow. They have a bad
- 0:35Speaker 1: tendency to make extremely sad moments, and these moments are
- 0:38Speaker 1: supposed to have many different effects on us as well
- 0:41Speaker 1: as the story, like the death of Median maid an Abyss.
- 0:44Speaker 1: This death was sad, but it had a strange air
- 0:46Speaker 1: about it, as if we weren't crying for the small
- 0:48Speaker 1: hollow that just died, but instead crying for Nanacci, who
- 0:51Speaker 1: was the one who had to make reg pull the trigger.
- 0:54Speaker 1: Mercy killings be like that sometimes. And further, this death
- 0:57Speaker 1: was designed to edify the main characters and help them
- 0:59Speaker 1: grow not only as people, but as a group as
- 1:01Speaker 1: a whole. We also realized that the life Midi was
- 1:04Speaker 1: living was full of pain after having lost her humanity
- 1:06Speaker 1: at Ittofront. This death made sense, and while we all
- 1:09Speaker 1: cried with Nanachi and reg we all know it would
- 1:11Speaker 1: have been sad or if she hadn't died. This is
- 1:13Speaker 1: one example of a death that is used to further
- 1:15Speaker 1: the plot of an anime series. But then there are
- 1:17Speaker 1: some deaths that actually end a series. One such death
- 1:21Speaker 1: would be that of Spikespiegel and Cowboy Bebop, who dies
- 1:24Speaker 1: after his final battle with Vicious. While he manages to
- 1:26Speaker 1: shoot Vicious and kill him, he's cut across the abdomen
- 1:29Speaker 1: during the battle and stumbles out into the street, where
- 1:32Speaker 1: he raises his hand to form a finger gun bang
- 1:36Speaker 1: and then just falls forward. This is one example of
- 1:39Speaker 1: a death that didn't push the story your characters forward,
- 1:41Speaker 1: but just ended the series on a sad note. And
- 1:45Speaker 1: while it is a sort of poetic end to the series,
- 1:48Speaker 1: as it is sort of what Cowboy Bebop was eventually
- 1:50Speaker 1: building to, it's also the kind of death that just
- 1:53Speaker 1: sort of makes you think, what the hell? Why would
- 1:55Speaker 1: they do this to us? And moreover, why do we
- 1:58Speaker 1: like it as much as we claim to hate it?
- 1:59Speaker 1: The tree is sad as these endings are. We love
- 2:02Speaker 1: this stuff, We enjoy the heartrending moments, and anime almost
- 2:05Speaker 1: as much as the good moments. They make us feel
- 2:07Speaker 1: closer to the characters and thus become more invested in
- 2:09Speaker 1: the story. And when we see a character we like
- 2:12Speaker 1: die at the end of a series, we want them
- 2:13Speaker 1: to come back to life. And then we realize that
- 2:16Speaker 1: in this world, we can go back in time, literally
- 2:19Speaker 1: rewinding the moments leading up to that death and rewatch
- 2:22Speaker 1: the best parts of their life and the worst. These
- 2:24Speaker 1: deaths are a literary tool that break the mold of
- 2:27Speaker 1: the belief that all endings have to be good endings.
- 2:30Speaker 1: People don't always live happily ever after, and sometimes their
- 2:32Speaker 1: death buys the happiness of others. Whatever the case, though,
- 2:35Speaker 1: these are moments that we love to hate feeling, and
- 2:38Speaker 1: so because we're all twisted and enjoy animated pain, let's
- 2:41Speaker 1: do a good old fashioned top ten list. Okay, maybe
- 2:44Speaker 1: not a top ten list because there's way too many
- 2:47Speaker 1: moments to choose from. So let's do a list of
- 2:50Speaker 1: ten sad anime moments that we're selected by our writer.
- 2:56Speaker 1: Welcome to the Amagi. Before we begin, we publish a
- 2:58Speaker 1: new video basically every day, so be sure to subscribe
- 3:00Speaker 1: to our channel and ring the bell to get notified
- 3:02Speaker 1: about our latest videos. The Boggis reach stretches beyond just
- 3:05Speaker 1: this channel, so if you're a fan of us, please
- 3:07Speaker 1: consider subscribing to our other channels and following us on
- 3:09Speaker 1: all of our social media help us reach our goal
- 3:12Speaker 1: of passing one hundred thousand followers on all of our
- 3:14Speaker 1: accounts by the end of the year. And also, I
- 3:16Speaker 1: would like to say that this list is one hundred
- 3:18Speaker 1: percent subjective based on what our writer has provided. If
- 3:21Speaker 1: there's a scene you feel as sadder than these, then
- 3:23Speaker 1: the possibilities are that either we don't know what they
- 3:26Speaker 1: are or disagree. So if a scene you think is
- 3:29Speaker 1: sadder doesn't show up here, then post it in the
- 3:31Speaker 1: comments below and we can talk about it. Be sure
- 3:33Speaker 1: to be respectful and kind in your comments, though, we're
- 3:35Speaker 1: all fans here. So with this small disclaimer out of
- 3:37Speaker 1: the way, let's start the list. Number ten Naruto Shibuden
- 3:41Speaker 1: the Tale of Juria. The Gallant Juriah was the godfather
- 3:45Speaker 1: of Naruto and one of the few adults that Naruto
- 3:47Speaker 1: had actually received parental guidance and affection from. He was
- 3:50Speaker 1: responsible for teaching Naruto Rasungan how to summon toads like
- 3:54Speaker 1: Amapunta and was also responsible with helping Naruto perfect hiss
- 3:57Speaker 1: chakra control. So it came as a shock to our
- 3:59Speaker 1: system when Jiyah was killed, and he was killed by
- 4:03Speaker 1: his own pupils. No less, during the Second Shnoby War, Juria, Arochimaru,
- 4:07Speaker 1: and Sunade gained the titles Sanan when they were the
- 4:09Speaker 1: only ones of Konaha's forces to face Hanzo of the
- 4:12Speaker 1: Salamander and live, and because they managed to do this,
- 4:14Speaker 1: they were named Sanan. However, this war ravaged Damagakua, and
- 4:18Speaker 1: a young boy named Nagato found his family slain by
- 4:21Speaker 1: accident when they confronted Leif Snoby. Sticking close to his
- 4:24Speaker 1: friends Yahiko and Conan, they sought out the Seinan in
- 4:26Speaker 1: hopes of learning to become Shnoby. Juriah, racked with guilt,
- 4:30Speaker 1: decided to stay back in Ame when the war ended
- 4:32Speaker 1: and decided to train his kids. When he felt that
- 4:34Speaker 1: they were sufficiently ready for not only life, but defending themselves,
- 4:38Speaker 1: he left Ame behind. These kids go on to form
- 4:40Speaker 1: the Yakatski, which had good intent but became twisted into
- 4:43Speaker 1: an international terrorist organization that Jiiah found himself having to
- 4:47Speaker 1: investigate on behalf of Konoha It was then that he
- 4:50Speaker 1: needed to face off against his former students, taking them
- 4:53Speaker 1: all on, He found himself overwhelmed and he ended up
- 4:55Speaker 1: perishing there in the battle. The scene became somber. Naruto
- 4:59Speaker 1: was called into the hokag office as he's surrounded by
- 5:01Speaker 1: those he's loved and all those Juria loved, and he's
- 5:04Speaker 1: informed that Juriah has passed. Naruto would indeed cycle through
- 5:08Speaker 1: the stages of grief until he reaches the end stage.
- 5:10Speaker 1: He sits upon a bench with a popsicle, just as
- 5:13Speaker 1: he had with Juria, and lets it melt. The scene
- 5:15Speaker 1: itself punches home what was lost that bond, not a
- 5:18Speaker 1: student and master, not lost knowledge and teachings. What was
- 5:22Speaker 1: lost that moment sitting on a bench with a popsicle.
- 5:25Speaker 1: Naruto could never do it again, and the tears streaming
- 5:28Speaker 1: down his face almost made us want to transcend the
- 5:30Speaker 1: Fourth Wall and give the Snoby a hug. Number nine
- 5:35Speaker 1: Naruto Shipaden the ties that bind the fourth Shnoby World
- 5:39Speaker 1: War is in full swing and the allied Shenobi forces
- 5:42Speaker 1: are facing off against the ten Tails and those who
- 5:44Speaker 1: would control it. Neji Huga, in a moment of self sacrifice,
- 5:47Speaker 1: jumps out and ends up stabbed by the ten Tails,
- 5:49Speaker 1: taking the shot in Naruto's stead. He perishes there in
- 5:52Speaker 1: his arms beside he Natza. This seem is very emotional,
- 5:55Speaker 1: and our rider teered up at it. The scene is
- 5:57Speaker 1: even present to Naruto Ultimate Inja Storm four and yeah,
- 6:00Speaker 1: it still hurts there too hard to play through the
- 6:02Speaker 1: next mission when you're staving off tears, Neiji Huga's cursed
- 6:05Speaker 1: sela death activates sealing his biakugan to ensure that he
- 6:08Speaker 1: can never be used by the enemy. This is a
- 6:10Speaker 1: controversial seal and a source of much contention between Neji
- 6:13Speaker 1: and the rest of the Yuga clan. Neji was an
- 6:15Speaker 1: embittered child, while kind and sweet at a younger age.
- 6:18Speaker 1: He ends up taking on the seal when his cousin
- 6:19Speaker 1: Hinata reaches age three. It's around this time that a
- 6:22Speaker 1: war was threatened by the Kumagakhare. An incident took place
- 6:25Speaker 1: that nearly led to a new Snoby World War. The
- 6:28Speaker 1: leaders of Kumogakare wanted Hyashi Huga dead for retribution, causing
- 6:32Speaker 1: an incident known as the Huga Affair. Kuma was one
- 6:34Speaker 1: hundred percent at fault, but the Huga clan were the
- 6:36Speaker 1: ones who needed to bite the bullet for the sake
- 6:38Speaker 1: of peace. A head snoby of Kumagakhare, who showed up
- 6:41Speaker 1: in the leaf to sign a peace treaty to end
- 6:43Speaker 1: the Kumo Konaha war, attempted to kidnap the toddler Hinata.
- 6:46Speaker 1: Given that she was one of the few Huga to
- 6:48Speaker 1: not possess a curse mark. This meant that they could
- 6:50Speaker 1: steal her byakugan without them being sealed away. Hyashi Huga,
- 6:54Speaker 1: like any good father would, sought her out to rescue
- 6:56Speaker 1: her and ended up killing the Kumonin. However, this had
- 6:59Speaker 1: kicked back. Kumo denied all allegations of this event and
- 7:02Speaker 1: pinned it as an attack on Kumo and were about
- 7:04Speaker 1: to withdraw the peace treaty unless they got the body
- 7:07Speaker 1: of Hiyashi Huga. Kiyashi was willing to oblige, but his
- 7:10Speaker 1: brother Hizashi, Neji's father, decided to take the punishment in
- 7:13Speaker 1: his stead, and was killed and sent to Kumo. Neji
- 7:16Speaker 1: was bitter about this and felt that the main branch
- 7:18Speaker 1: had killed him coldly and never realized that this was
- 7:20Speaker 1: his own father's doing. His attitude toward the main branch
- 7:23Speaker 1: was dark, and he took any chance he could to
- 7:25Speaker 1: hurt Hi Nata as bad as possible. Such times would
- 7:28Speaker 1: be during his training of her, as well as during
- 7:30Speaker 1: the tune in exams. However, the truth would be revealed
- 7:33Speaker 1: to him through the tears of the uncle he blamed
- 7:35Speaker 1: and the bitter prideful Neji would slowly develop into a strong,
- 7:38Speaker 1: caring and wise man. Forgiving the main branch, he began
- 7:42Speaker 1: to take his position as he not as guardian, more seriously,
- 7:44Speaker 1: and that was what this moment symbolized, Neji realizing that
- 7:48Speaker 1: it was merely his destiny to die for Hi Nata and,
- 7:50Speaker 1: by extension, Naruto. This is one reason why this scene
- 7:53Speaker 1: is so sad. For so long, Neji fought against his fate,
- 7:56Speaker 1: taking on a fatalist view that nothing he could do
- 7:59Speaker 1: would change his life. And despite everything and every good moment,
- 8:02Speaker 1: we learned through tearful eyes that he could never change
- 8:05Speaker 1: his fate. Rest in peace, Negi, You've earned it. Number eight.
- 8:09Speaker 1: Attack on Titan season three, episode eighteen, Midnight Sun. We
- 8:14Speaker 1: all know that Attack on Titan is a series specifically
- 8:16Speaker 1: designed to be dark. The author doesn't believe in true
- 8:19Speaker 1: plot armor and you can never expect any character, no
- 8:22Speaker 1: matter who, to be safe. This is what we learned
- 8:24Speaker 1: from this episode. The episode is a close contender to
- 8:27Speaker 1: another on this list due to the sheer amount of bloodshed.
- 8:30Speaker 1: In this episode, we find that Erwin Smith dies after
- 8:33Speaker 1: his last charge against the beast Titan zike Jeger, as
- 8:36Speaker 1: well as the entirety of his squad, a suicide run
- 8:38Speaker 1: meant only to serve as distraction. That was the type
- 8:41Speaker 1: of man Irwin was. He literally commanded his men to
- 8:44Speaker 1: march to the gates of Hell, and they obliged, knowing
- 8:47Speaker 1: full well where they were going. But really did they
- 8:50Speaker 1: have the choice to stay behind? Yeah, and Irwin likely
- 8:53Speaker 1: would have accepted it if they had decided, Yet not
- 8:56Speaker 1: a single one chose to stay behind, all marching into
- 8:59Speaker 1: the meat grinder, with the only survivor being Flock, who
- 9:01Speaker 1: would later take on the mentality that the only thing
- 9:04Speaker 1: that the world needed was a devil. This is what
- 9:06Speaker 1: would lead Flock to Erin's new Jagarists group and cause
- 9:09Speaker 1: him to follow so fervently behind him. Berthold was also killed,
- 9:13Speaker 1: with Armin being the one that just barely got out
- 9:15Speaker 1: of it, consuming Berthold. This episode was one where we
- 9:18Speaker 1: were shown that as two of our favorite characters lay
- 9:20Speaker 1: on the ground dying, were told that we can only
- 9:23Speaker 1: save one. But who would it be? Would it be
- 9:25Speaker 1: Armin the one? Erin and Mikasa were willing to break
- 9:28Speaker 1: command for attacking Levi to force him to save Armin.
- 9:31Speaker 1: Or would they save Erwin, the devil himself, who would
- 9:34Speaker 1: march all of humanity to their deaths just to complete
- 9:36Speaker 1: his mission. Levi was forced to decide between dreams, love, strategy,
- 9:40Speaker 1: and experience. He was about to choose Erwin, but Irwin
- 9:44Speaker 1: quickly pulled his hand back as if to say, no,
- 9:46Speaker 1: let me die. In the end, Levi decided to let
- 9:49Speaker 1: Irwin have his rest and saved Armin. Still, we can't
- 9:52Speaker 1: help but wonder what would have happened if they had
- 9:54Speaker 1: chosen Irwin instead. Imagine Erwin as the colossal Titan. How
- 9:57Speaker 1: would that change things? In the end, he choose arm
- 10:00Speaker 1: and armand, taking on a pure Titan form, grips Berthold.
- 10:04Speaker 1: This is itself a sad scene because we witnessed Berthold,
- 10:06Speaker 1: who had finally mustered the guts to deny his friends,
- 10:09Speaker 1: suddenly backtracking in an attempt to beg for forgiveness and
- 10:12Speaker 1: ask them to save him. The pure terror in his
- 10:14Speaker 1: eyes and in his voice, screaming for help as Armand
- 10:17Speaker 1: placed him in his mouth, was something that shook us,
- 10:19Speaker 1: all of our core. It was sorrowful because of all
- 10:22Speaker 1: of the warriors and even the scouts, Berthold was the
- 10:24Speaker 1: one who was the most scared and fragile. While Reiner
- 10:27Speaker 1: and Zeke fought, he just stood there crying like a
- 10:30Speaker 1: four year old watching his parents argue, begging them to stop.
- 10:33Speaker 1: And despite him by Marley Leadership being stated to be
- 10:36Speaker 1: in possession of the most powerful Titan besides the Founder,
- 10:39Speaker 1: he still wasn't able to usurp the title of war
- 10:41Speaker 1: chief from Zeke, despite him being the one who wanted
- 10:44Speaker 1: to save Annie. Instead, he left the fighting to Reyner.
- 10:48Speaker 1: The contrast between Berthold's weak and emotional state and his
- 10:51Speaker 1: incredible Titan is something mirrored by Armand, who would inherit
- 10:54Speaker 1: not only the form but his dreams. Certainly a crushing moment.
- 10:58Speaker 1: Number seven Attack on Titan sees it four episode eight
- 11:01Speaker 1: Assassin's bullet Ah Yes, setting them up two by two
- 11:05Speaker 1: like Noah's Ark. Well, what can we say? Attack on
- 11:07Speaker 1: Titan is just one of those series with a lot
- 11:09Speaker 1: of sad moments, and there are very few moments with
- 11:12Speaker 1: as much impact as the death of Sasha. Blouse being
- 11:15Speaker 1: active in the attack on Titan discussion threads during that time,
- 11:17Speaker 1: I can tell you it was certainly a shock. Plenty
- 11:20Speaker 1: of posts talking about how bad Gabby was, as well
- 11:22Speaker 1: as a few other things probably too harsh to mention here.
- 11:25Speaker 1: To be honest, while obviously we hated seeing the death
- 11:28Speaker 1: of Sasha, I also realized that Gabby's actions weren't unwarranted.
- 11:31Speaker 1: I mean, the Scouts were in Liberio that day to
- 11:33Speaker 1: help Erin who was ripping it apart. Aaron literally shows up,
- 11:35Speaker 1: eats the president, collapse a building that he himself stated
- 11:38Speaker 1: was packed full of innocent women and children, kills Udo
- 11:41Speaker 1: and Sophia and makes the Warriors look like big babies
- 11:43Speaker 1: in the middle of their homeland. This was an atrocity
- 11:46Speaker 1: on par with the fall of the Shiganshina in terms
- 11:48Speaker 1: of bloodshed. We didn't blame Aaron, Armin and Mikassa for
- 11:51Speaker 1: seeking revenge against the Warriors, so why would we blame
- 11:53Speaker 1: Gabby for doing the same. There are no real heroes
- 11:57Speaker 1: or villains. An attack on Titan, just besides the original
- 12:00Speaker 1: King Fritz, who started the cycle of hatred. But you know,
- 12:03Speaker 1: even though I understand Gabby, though it doesn't make the
- 12:05Speaker 1: episode feel any better. After watching innocent women and toddlers
- 12:09Speaker 1: die an indoctrinated child soldiers perish, it only hurt more
- 12:12Speaker 1: when Sasha took the bullet. Watching Connie cry begging her
- 12:16Speaker 1: not to give up was so painful. For so long,
- 12:19Speaker 1: Sasha was the other half of Connie, and when she died,
- 12:21Speaker 1: I feel like a part of Connie died with her.
- 12:23Speaker 1: Later on in the season, when Annie shows up and
- 12:26Speaker 1: starts stuffing her face with pie, Connie laughs at her,
- 12:28Speaker 1: and it hurts so much because we know that this
- 12:32Speaker 1: laugh is a callback to Sasha, who used to do
- 12:34Speaker 1: the same. The laugh is bittersweet because the scene is funny,
- 12:37Speaker 1: but it also reminds us that Sasha's gone and will
- 12:40Speaker 1: never witness her eat another unless, of course, we watch
- 12:43Speaker 1: Attack on Titan Junior High. Then we get to see
- 12:45Speaker 1: all of our favorites return in She beforem which is fun,
- 12:47Speaker 1: but we're not here for fun today. We're here to suffer.
- 12:50Speaker 1: So the death of Sasha is what we're focusing on
- 12:52Speaker 1: right now, and after her death, Gabby ends up escaping
- 12:55Speaker 1: and staying with the Blouse family, which is ironic. But
- 12:58Speaker 1: from here we witness Gabby breaking away from her indoctrinated
- 13:01Speaker 1: views that all Eldeans are devils. As the moment that
- 13:03Speaker 1: she admits that she killed Sasha, the patriarch of the
- 13:06Speaker 1: Blause family is offered the opportunity to kill Gabby and Falco,
- 13:09Speaker 1: and yet he denies it and decides to forgive them.
- 13:12Speaker 1: The rest of the family isn't much the same, but
- 13:14Speaker 1: the actions taken there are the actions of passion due
- 13:17Speaker 1: to a broken heart. In the end, the Blause family
- 13:19Speaker 1: still forgives them and Gabby would be left speechless. Number
- 13:23Speaker 1: six Demon Slayer Mugen train. The Demon Slayer series has
- 13:28Speaker 1: always been one to bring unexpected levels of heart to
- 13:30Speaker 1: the table. Protagonist Tanjirokamado has been searching for a long
- 13:33Speaker 1: time for a way to heal his little sister Nesko
- 13:36Speaker 1: of her demonification at the hands of the villainous demon
- 13:38Speaker 1: king Kibutsuji Muzan. During this journey, Tanjiro trains to become
- 13:42Speaker 1: a demon slayer, and despite it being his job to
- 13:44Speaker 1: kill the murderous demons who seem to devour humans without remorse.
- 13:48Speaker 1: His kindness is so great that even when his demonic
- 13:50Speaker 1: opponents perish, he's always there to see them off with
- 13:53Speaker 1: tears in his eyes. Tanjiro truly makes every demon death
- 13:56Speaker 1: of tragedy in this way, as we realize all of
- 13:58Speaker 1: the victims of the demon, and the demon themselves being
- 14:01Speaker 1: the grand victim who had merely become twisted by someone else. However,
- 14:05Speaker 1: one of the saddest scenes that made waves through the
- 14:07Speaker 1: fandom was the death of kio Jiro Rengoku during the
- 14:09Speaker 1: Mugen Train movie as well as the Mangan anime arcs
- 14:12Speaker 1: of the same name. Kyojiro was the Flame Hashira, a
- 14:14Speaker 1: title he inherited from his father, and was one of
- 14:16Speaker 1: the many pillars to the Demon Slair Corps, whose sole
- 14:19Speaker 1: job it was being to kill demons, most specifically the
- 14:22Speaker 1: twelve Kizuki, who stood directly under Kibutsaji Musan. While on
- 14:26Speaker 1: the train, they may contact with one of the twelve Kizuki,
- 14:28Speaker 1: a demon named Akaza, the upper rank three demon of
- 14:31Speaker 1: the twelve Kizaki. Over the course of the movie, the
- 14:34Speaker 1: train is beset by demons, and Kyojiro makes a vow
- 14:36Speaker 1: that not a single one of them will die, them
- 14:39Speaker 1: being the people the demons, not the demons. He's gonna
- 14:43Speaker 1: kill the demons, and to that point he's led to
- 14:45Speaker 1: face off against a Kaza. However, the battle concludes with
- 14:48Speaker 1: Kyojiro taking a fatal shot. Despite his grand power, which
- 14:52Speaker 1: is even hailed by the likes of Inoske, he still
- 14:54Speaker 1: falls and dies under the upper rank third demon. In
- 14:57Speaker 1: his last moments, Kyojiro would witness his death mother asking
- 15:00Speaker 1: if he did okay, to which he would state he
- 15:02Speaker 1: did wonderfully. Then the flamboyant Hashira offers one last smile
- 15:06Speaker 1: before dying. This hit hard. While we hadn't seen all
- 15:09Speaker 1: too much of Kyojuro before this, we did witness the
- 15:12Speaker 1: Hashira standing there above Tanjurou along with the rest of
- 15:14Speaker 1: the pillars of the Demon Slair Corp, wondering if a
- 15:17Speaker 1: trial was even necessary for Tanjiro, given that the boy
- 15:19Speaker 1: was responsible for protecting a demon Neziko, from being slayed
- 15:22Speaker 1: by another member of their corps. He trained hard under
- 15:25Speaker 1: his father beside his little brother, in an attempt to
- 15:27Speaker 1: become a Hashira himself. His hard work eventually brought him
- 15:30Speaker 1: up to the rank he desired. His character was loved
- 15:33Speaker 1: enough that despite us not seeing all too much of him,
- 15:35Speaker 1: we still felt a hole in our hearts when he perished.
- 15:38Speaker 1: The Demon Slair Corp Will never be the same, and
- 15:40Speaker 1: he certainly will never be replaced. There's a gaping hole
- 15:43Speaker 1: in the Demon Slayer's ability to protect the world from
- 15:45Speaker 1: demons now, and that poses a large threat, which insinuates
- 15:48Speaker 1: that the series will only grow more and more dangerous
- 15:51Speaker 1: from here on out and shows us that no matter
- 15:53Speaker 1: how strong you get, there's always someone stronger, and eventually
- 15:57Speaker 1: even the mightiest of us are toppled. A Kaza does
- 16:00Speaker 1: still die, though it is through suicide, so I guess
- 16:02Speaker 1: Akaza avenged Kyojirou on himself. Number five. Full Metal Alchemist's Brotherhood,
- 16:08Speaker 1: Episode ten, Separate Destinations, Mays Hughes, That's all I need
- 16:13Speaker 1: to say, right, No, Well, I guess I'll explain it
- 16:16Speaker 1: for you if you missed Full Metal Alchemist. Mays Hughes
- 16:19Speaker 1: was a soldier and alchemist in the Amestry and military
- 16:22Speaker 1: who served the series for comedy relief. Mays Hugh's biggest
- 16:25Speaker 1: yag was that he was so proud of his family.
- 16:27Speaker 1: He had a beautiful wife named Gracia and a daughter
- 16:30Speaker 1: named Alicia. He had a habit of pulling out an
- 16:32Speaker 1: image of these two and showing them to his compatriots
- 16:34Speaker 1: in an almost compulsive manner. In the two thousand and
- 16:37Speaker 1: three anime, he even goes so farest to show the
- 16:39Speaker 1: crowd a large picture of his family during the duel
- 16:41Speaker 1: between Edward Elrick and Roy Mustang, which garnered him much scorn,
- 16:45Speaker 1: mays Hughes was upbeat, and his love for his family
- 16:47Speaker 1: was so great that you couldn't help but love the man.
- 16:49Speaker 1: But as anybody who has a shred of media literacy
- 16:52Speaker 1: knows anybody who's happy with their family and can't wait
- 16:55Speaker 1: to go back to them, this is a pretty big
- 16:57Speaker 1: death flag. Things began to grow more and more serious
- 17:00Speaker 1: as he continues his various investigations. As Hughes begins to
- 17:03Speaker 1: look through the records of every major war that has
- 17:06Speaker 1: occurred in the history of Amestress, he realizes with utter
- 17:08Speaker 1: horror that each battle corresponds to a single point on
- 17:11Speaker 1: a transmutation circle that is normally used to create a
- 17:14Speaker 1: philosopher's stone, an object formed from the blood and souls
- 17:17Speaker 1: of sacrificed human beings. He's confronted by Lust, who tells
- 17:21Speaker 1: him that he's learned too much and attempts to kill him. However,
- 17:24Speaker 1: Hughes manages to survive the attack, burying a knife he
- 17:27Speaker 1: had concealed into Lust's forehead. He rushes to the telephone,
- 17:30Speaker 1: where he attempts to call fear her King Bradley and
- 17:33Speaker 1: inform him of it. When he suddenly realizes that this
- 17:35Speaker 1: sort of operation couldn't go on without the notice of
- 17:38Speaker 1: the Amestrian government and Bradley's involvement uncovering the conspiracy, He
- 17:42Speaker 1: hangs up the phone and attempts to escape, hoping to
- 17:44Speaker 1: find a phone booth with which he can call someone
- 17:46Speaker 1: he trusts. However, as he flees, he drops an image
- 17:49Speaker 1: of his wife and daughter. This leads the other Hamunculus
- 17:52Speaker 1: envy to him, who is disguised as Second Lieutenant Maria Ross.
- 17:56Speaker 1: She points a gun at him and tells him to
- 17:57Speaker 1: hang up the phone. Hughes mentions that she isn't the
- 18:00Speaker 1: real Maria Ross, as she's missing the mold under her eye,
- 18:03Speaker 1: which suddenly materializes to Hughes's amazement. Hughes attempts to stab
- 18:07Speaker 1: her with another knife he had concealed. However, the homunculus
- 18:09Speaker 1: spies the photograph of Hughes's family on the ground and
- 18:12Speaker 1: suddenly transforms into his wife, Gracia. The idea of stabbing
- 18:16Speaker 1: his wife causes Hughes to hesitate for a moment, a
- 18:18Speaker 1: moment that Envy uses to shoot him in the heart,
- 18:21Speaker 1: killing him. He's then posthumously promoted to the rank of
- 18:24Speaker 1: brigadier general for dying in the line of duty. Sad yeah, well,
- 18:28Speaker 1: it only gets worse. We get to witness Hughes's funeral,
- 18:30Speaker 1: and during this funeral, Elicia, Hughes's daughter, doesn't understand the
- 18:34Speaker 1: concept of death and is wondering why they're burying her
- 18:37Speaker 1: father when he still has so much work to do.
- 18:40Speaker 1: She cries out for them to stop burying her father,
- 18:42Speaker 1: an action which causes all of those nearby to cry,
- 18:45Speaker 1: including Armstrong and even King Bradley, who's practically responsible for
- 18:48Speaker 1: Hugh's death. Mustang later notes that he finally understands why
- 18:52Speaker 1: Edward and Alphonse Elric attempted to use human transmutation to
- 18:55Speaker 1: bring back their mother, and as he looks up to
- 18:57Speaker 1: the clear skies, he notes that today's a terror day
- 19:00Speaker 1: for rain, before proceeding to cry himself. This scene is heartbreaking,
- 19:04Speaker 1: but there is one more scene from this series that
- 19:06Speaker 1: I'm sure you're wondering where the hell on this list
- 19:09Speaker 1: it is. It's in the next slot, number four. Full
- 19:12Speaker 1: Metal Alchemist Brotherhood Episode four, An Alchemist's anguish look. You
- 19:16Speaker 1: knew it was coming. This one is so sad that
- 19:19Speaker 1: it's actually kind of become a meme. And I think
- 19:21Speaker 1: I share it so much because I don't want you
- 19:23Speaker 1: face the horrific truth of the scene, so I make
- 19:26Speaker 1: a stupid little joke about it so I don't have
- 19:28Speaker 1: to think too hard and start spiraling. Anyway. The name
- 19:32Speaker 1: of our subject of sorrow now is Nina Tucker. She
- 19:36Speaker 1: was the daughter of the state alchemist Showtucker, who was
- 19:38Speaker 1: down on his luck. He was hoping to find a
- 19:40Speaker 1: grand discovery to allow him to keep his funding to
- 19:43Speaker 1: continue his research. However, he had reached a roadblock in
- 19:45Speaker 1: his studies and was working on chimeras at this time.
- 19:49Speaker 1: Edward Elric and Alphonse Elrich show up here to do
- 19:52Speaker 1: some research and meet the girl. She's sweet, playful, and
- 19:55Speaker 1: quickly befriends Alfonse, who himself is still a child at heart.
- 19:58Speaker 1: Together they play with her dog Alexander and have a
- 20:00Speaker 1: grand time while Edward focuses on studying bioalchemy. Show Tucker's
- 20:04Speaker 1: dedication to his fields of study, though, required quite a
- 20:06Speaker 1: bit of his attention, leaving him unable to play with
- 20:09Speaker 1: his daughter as much as he should, and Edward and
- 20:11Speaker 1: Alphonse both understand this, as they were children of an
- 20:13Speaker 1: alchemist as well their father, Van o'enheim. It's revealed by
- 20:16Speaker 1: Nina that their mother abandoned her and her father in
- 20:19Speaker 1: the past, and now it was just the two of them. However,
- 20:21Speaker 1: what she didn't know is that Show had used her
- 20:23Speaker 1: as a test subject in his experiments, transforming her into
- 20:26Speaker 1: a chimera, leading to her death. As the yearly inspection
- 20:30Speaker 1: is coming closer, Show makes a desperate move and transmutes
- 20:33Speaker 1: both Nina and her dog Alexander into a single chimera,
- 20:37Speaker 1: which is his second chimera capable of speech. He shows
- 20:40Speaker 1: Edward and Alphonse the chimera, which at first amazes Edward,
- 20:44Speaker 1: but when the chimera begins to innocently utter the words
- 20:47Speaker 1: Edward seeking to play with him, Edward understands what's truly happened.
- 20:51Speaker 1: In his rage, he turns around and beats Shoe Tucker
- 20:53Speaker 1: within an inch of his life, all while Nina cries,
- 20:56Speaker 1: begging him to not her daddy. Edward acquiesced to her desires,
- 20:59Speaker 1: which all Show to survive the encounter. However, he would
- 21:02Speaker 1: report this incident to Mustang at Eastern HQ, Roy Mustang
- 21:06Speaker 1: shows up and Show Tucker and Nina are to be
- 21:08Speaker 1: taken into custody, with Show being planned to pay for
- 21:10Speaker 1: his crimes. However, before they do that, a rogue alchemist
- 21:13Speaker 1: Scar appears and goes ghost rider on the man, using
- 21:16Speaker 1: his destructive alchemy technique to kill Show. Nina cries over this,
- 21:20Speaker 1: speaking only the words daddy is hurt over and over again.
- 21:23Speaker 1: Scar laments the fate of the child and believes that
- 21:26Speaker 1: the best thing he can do is free her with
- 21:27Speaker 1: a mercy killing using alchemy, which he performs on the
- 21:30Speaker 1: girl the same as he did on Show Tucker. As
- 21:33Speaker 1: he leaves, he utters a prayer for their souls and
- 21:35Speaker 1: disappears into the rain Man. Man. We're getting into like
- 21:39Speaker 1: the real heavy stuff. Now. This whole videos is a
- 21:41Speaker 1: big bummer. Speaking of number three Neon Genesis Evangelion, the
- 21:46Speaker 1: end of Evangelian Ava hardly needs an introduction. Hidiakiano's magnum
- 21:51Speaker 1: Opus of Mechanime depression, creative frustration. It's a historic series.
- 21:58Speaker 1: If you haven't, if you're an anime fan and you
- 21:59Speaker 1: have it, watch Neon Genesis Avangelian. You really owe it
- 22:02Speaker 1: to yourself to do that because it's a huge part
- 22:04Speaker 1: of like the anime canon, the series focused on a
- 22:07Speaker 1: highly depressed boy with plenty of emotional baggage who somehow
- 22:10Speaker 1: gets chosen to pilot a massive mechanical cyborg creature known
- 22:13Speaker 1: as an Evangelian. The whole crux of the series is
- 22:16Speaker 1: that sometime in the past actually was September tenth, two thousand,
- 22:19Speaker 1: Humanity accidentally awakens a being known as Adam, who was
- 22:22Speaker 1: a planetary seed that was designed to create life on
- 22:25Speaker 1: the planet but was usurped by Lilith, who was the
- 22:27Speaker 1: basis of human beings. The beings, known as Angels, then
- 22:30Speaker 1: begin to awaken to reclaim their progenitor Adam from Humanity
- 22:34Speaker 1: to initiate Third Impact to end Humanity. Instead, Humanity destroys
- 22:38Speaker 1: all of the Angels and initiates Third Impact all on
- 22:41Speaker 1: their own. The series originally ended with a two episode
- 22:43Speaker 1: story arc known as Human Instrumentality. I'm fully going offscript
- 22:46Speaker 1: here because the writer said that this ending is stupid,
- 22:48Speaker 1: but I will defend this ending with my life. You
- 22:51Speaker 1: can fight me on this and I will die on
- 22:53Speaker 1: this hill. Yes it was confusing, Yes it was basically
- 22:56Speaker 1: two entire episodes of Shinji's therapy. Yes, the entire art
- 23:00Speaker 1: direction and art style the series fell apart. But if
- 23:02Speaker 1: you watch the series knowing what Hideakiana was going through
- 23:05Speaker 1: during the production of the series, it makes so much sense.
- 23:08Speaker 1: The story and production of Avangellian is so tied into
- 23:11Speaker 1: Hideakiano's personal life that it seems impossible to try to
- 23:14Speaker 1: disconnect the two. Shinji's emotional journey was clearly the main
- 23:18Speaker 1: focal point of the series, and also, I'm not really
- 23:21Speaker 1: a huge fan of mech anime anyway, so I was
- 23:23Speaker 1: all for the ending. I was completely behind it. I
- 23:26Speaker 1: stand by it anyway. Congratulations you made it to the
- 23:29Speaker 1: end of the rant. But because of Ava's enduring popularity,
- 23:32Speaker 1: the story of course couldn't have ended there. So they
- 23:34Speaker 1: gave us a new ending in the form of a
- 23:36Speaker 1: movie that depicts how Instrumentality began and better yet, how
- 23:40Speaker 1: it stopped. The movie is pretty heavy and pretty dense,
- 23:44Speaker 1: with a lot of iconic moments in the AVA franchise
- 23:47Speaker 1: involving Oscar versus the mass produced avas that Sela created,
- 23:50Speaker 1: as well as the birth of Actually, I don't know
- 23:52Speaker 1: if this has a name. Most of the fan base
- 23:54Speaker 1: just call it Naked Ray. This is an interesting concept,
- 23:57Speaker 1: as the being gathers the souls of all humans on
- 23:59Speaker 1: Earth into itself to experience love as a single, perfect
- 24:02Speaker 1: being with no flaws, well, one flaw being that it
- 24:05Speaker 1: invited Shinjy to be a part of it. Shiny in
- 24:07Speaker 1: the end rejects human instrumentality to return to the real world,
- 24:10Speaker 1: and in doing so, kills the massive angel as its
- 24:13Speaker 1: body falls apart onto the devastated planet Earth. We're shown
- 24:16Speaker 1: that the only survivors of the worldwide mass extinction event
- 24:19Speaker 1: are Shinjy and Osca, who we assume are set up
- 24:22Speaker 1: to repopulate the ruined Earth, covered in massive body parts
- 24:25Speaker 1: and deposing Evangelians. However, we are absolutely wrong, as Shinjy
- 24:29Speaker 1: immediately gets on top of Osca and begins to strangle her.
- 24:32Speaker 1: When he finally gets off, she just calls himpathetic. The
- 24:35Speaker 1: scene has truly earned its place. We're left with a
- 24:37Speaker 1: world that has no life left on it besides Shinji
- 24:39Speaker 1: and Osca, and the two hate each other, an absolutely
- 24:43Speaker 1: destructive ending number two made an abyss. Dawn of the
- 24:48Speaker 1: Deep Soul made an abyss is a notoriously dark show.
- 24:52Speaker 1: While it is a show with plenty of adventure and
- 24:54Speaker 1: scenes that make us question how legal it is for
- 24:56Speaker 1: the author to even be writing the sort of show,
- 24:58Speaker 1: it also has some scenes that are quite dark and gory.
- 25:01Speaker 1: As previously stated, the death of Middi was the one
- 25:03Speaker 1: that struck the fan base pretty hard. But then I
- 25:06Speaker 1: made the mistake of watching Dawn of the Deep Soul
- 25:08Speaker 1: after this and only gets struck by an even darker storyline.
- 25:11Speaker 1: But what did I expect? Middy was a byproduct of
- 25:13Speaker 1: edo front of which the movie is all about. Not
- 25:16Speaker 1: only do we have to sit through a torture scene
- 25:18Speaker 1: with one of the protagonists, reg which really made me
- 25:20Speaker 1: think that the author gets a kick out of writing
- 25:22Speaker 1: torture stories, but were introduced to the movie's ultimate villain, Prushka.
- 25:25Speaker 1: You see edofront is ran by a mad scientist known
- 25:28Speaker 1: as Bondru the novel Sovereign of the Dawn. He's a
- 25:30Speaker 1: white whistle who has no value for human life whatsoever,
- 25:33Speaker 1: and continuously reincarnates Arochi Maru style through the use of
- 25:37Speaker 1: his relic, the soul slave machine Zoahalic. He has a
- 25:40Speaker 1: group of delvers with him, known as the Umbrahans, who
- 25:43Speaker 1: are all puppets of the Sovereign. His experiments generally revolve
- 25:46Speaker 1: around finding ways to enter the sixth Layer and leaving
- 25:49Speaker 1: it alive, which is generally impossible due to the curse,
- 25:51Speaker 1: which causes anything ascending from the sixth layer to lose
- 25:54Speaker 1: their humanity and become a flesh blob like Middy did. However,
- 25:58Speaker 1: his experiments on homeless orphan chill ldren such as Nanachi
- 26:01Speaker 1: allowed him to discover that if you sacrifice someone who
- 26:03Speaker 1: loves you, you may ascend from the sixth layer and receive,
- 26:06Speaker 1: instead of a curse, a blessing which turns you into
- 26:08Speaker 1: an adorable, fluffy rabbit person thing. He seemed to value
- 26:12Speaker 1: the lives of none of the children. However, he did
- 26:14Speaker 1: have one child that was special, a girl named Prushka
- 26:18Speaker 1: who was born in the Abyss. She was the daughter
- 26:20Speaker 1: of one of the Umbra hands and was claimed as
- 26:22Speaker 1: Bondrud's own daughter when he first meets her. An accident
- 26:26Speaker 1: involving bringing her up through the fifth layer, causes her
- 26:28Speaker 1: to lose her mind and go insane, ripping out all
- 26:30Speaker 1: of her own hair. One of the umbrahnds says it's
- 26:33Speaker 1: probably best to euthanize her to spare her the pain,
- 26:35Speaker 1: but Bondru decides that all it takes to save her
- 26:37Speaker 1: is a little love. He picks up the child and
- 26:40Speaker 1: hugs her, causing her to calm down. As her hair
- 26:42Speaker 1: begins to grow. He continues to love her, but as
- 26:44Speaker 1: she hides in a small alcove refusing medication, Bondrey brings
- 26:48Speaker 1: her a new friend, a pet named Mania. This causes
- 26:51Speaker 1: Prushka to come out of the hole as she displays
- 26:53Speaker 1: her first signs of affection of something. This day is
- 26:56Speaker 1: the day Bondrud dedicates as her true birthday, the day
- 27:00Speaker 1: she learned how to enjoy life. She continues to grow
- 27:02Speaker 1: and make progress, even becoming a normal girl, talking with
- 27:05Speaker 1: Manya about all the things that she wants to learn
- 27:07Speaker 1: about and experience. However, Mania leads her to a steep staircase, which,
- 27:12Speaker 1: as she climbs, forces her to experience the fifth Layir's curse,
- 27:15Speaker 1: once more, returning her to an invalid state. However, Bondrud
- 27:18Speaker 1: declared that she has come from an even darker state
- 27:21Speaker 1: and continues to show her affection. She returns to her
- 27:23Speaker 1: happy state, noting that her hair oddly is now curly.
- 27:26Speaker 1: This path leads her to meet Rico Regan Nanucci, who
- 27:29Speaker 1: are on their way to the Sixth Lair. However, as
- 27:31Speaker 1: they get there, a conflict is instigated by Bondrude in
- 27:34Speaker 1: which he tortures Rag to learn more about him and
- 27:36Speaker 1: saws off his arm to learn more about the Incinerator.
- 27:39Speaker 1: This leads to a battle in which Bondrud's body is
- 27:41Speaker 1: dropped into the Sixth Lair by the small Android and
- 27:44Speaker 1: forced to take on the curse of the Sixth Lair
- 27:46Speaker 1: before being crushed by a boulder. Pushka cries for him,
- 27:49Speaker 1: only for Bondrud's soul to pass into the umbra hand
- 27:51Speaker 1: protecting her. He says he'll never leave her and is
- 27:54Speaker 1: immortal so long as he has her love. However, this
- 27:56Speaker 1: is all a ploy. Bondrude wanted to gain the Blessing
- 27:59Speaker 1: Life anoogy, and it's revealed that he never loved Prushka
- 28:02Speaker 1: and wanted to use her as an experiment as well.
- 28:05Speaker 1: He takes her into a room, strips her down and
- 28:07Speaker 1: puts her under anesthesia, where he proceeds to mark off
- 28:09Speaker 1: areas for her body that are no longer necessary. Pusha
- 28:12Speaker 1: begins to sleep, though she awakens every once in a
- 28:15Speaker 1: while to make note of the body parts Bondrood is
- 28:17Speaker 1: removing from her. Even witnessing him removing her legs and
- 28:20Speaker 1: internal organs made an abyss fun adventures for the whole family.
- 28:25Speaker 1: In the end, it's revealed by Nanachi when they enter
- 28:27Speaker 1: a room that Bondrud takes children, removes all unnecessary parts
- 28:31Speaker 1: save their brains, spinal cords, select organs, and then closes
- 28:34Speaker 1: them up in their own flesh and places them in cartridges,
- 28:37Speaker 1: which he uses for experiments into entering the sixth Lair
- 28:40Speaker 1: and exiting without dying. He had just made Prushka one
- 28:43Speaker 1: of these, and during his final battle with reg it's
- 28:45Speaker 1: shown that when Bonvroud returns with the blessing that he
- 28:48Speaker 1: had used Prushka, Bondrood is defeated and killed, though he
- 28:52Speaker 1: reincarnates again later because the zooholic is still active. However,
- 28:56Speaker 1: Prushka isn't so lucky. She takes the curse and it
- 28:59Speaker 1: is only through Ma that Rico Reagan Nanucci recognized her.
- 29:02Speaker 1: Rico cries out for her as blood gushes out of
- 29:04Speaker 1: the cartridge, and even at this point she still thinks
- 29:07Speaker 1: only of Bondrud. Rico screams at how unfair this was
- 29:10Speaker 1: and all the lost adventures that they had planned. However,
- 29:13Speaker 1: the one saving grace here is that Pushka becomes a
- 29:15Speaker 1: life reverberating stone, which would later become Rico's white whistle.
- 29:19Speaker 1: From this white whistle, Pushka can still experience everything Rico
- 29:22Speaker 1: does and still talk with her and select others such
- 29:25Speaker 1: as Fapwitza. So, now that I've basically detailed to you
- 29:28Speaker 1: the plot of an entire movie, what could the number
- 29:31Speaker 1: one spot be? I'm sure a lot of you are
- 29:33Speaker 1: already screaming at me. So here it is number one.
- 29:37Speaker 1: Grave of the Fireflies. Also the whole movie Lord Give
- 29:42Speaker 1: Me Strength. Released April sixteenth, nineteen eighty eight. The anime
- 29:46Speaker 1: is Sadly a semi autobiographic film based on the book
- 29:49Speaker 1: Barefoot Again. The story revolves around Japan post World War Two,
- 29:52Speaker 1: where a family surviving the end of the war, having
- 29:55Speaker 1: their home firebomb during the war, are left starving. Put simply,
- 29:59Speaker 1: this is a movie about two children starving to death,
- 30:02Speaker 1: and that's not really a spoiler. The opening scene tells
- 30:04Speaker 1: us where this movie is going. The story starts out
- 30:07Speaker 1: with the main characters, Sata and Setsko, escaping their home
- 30:10Speaker 1: during a firebombing air raid by American B twenty nine.
- 30:13Speaker 1: He rushes to the sea to protect himself and his
- 30:15Speaker 1: little sister, but his mother is killed. She's subsequently thrown
- 30:18Speaker 1: into a mass pit and cremated. He gathers a few
- 30:20Speaker 1: bones in a tin and carries it with him. He
- 30:22Speaker 1: and Setsko move in with their aunt, who's a bit
- 30:24Speaker 1: demanding and Sata pretty much avoids all responsibilities. Setsko cries
- 30:28Speaker 1: at night, and this all causes friction between the two
- 30:31Speaker 1: and their aunt. At some point, they decide to leave
- 30:33Speaker 1: and live in an old refuge that survived the bombings. There,
- 30:36Speaker 1: they release fireflies within to provide light. However, the next day,
- 30:39Speaker 1: he awakens to find his sister digging a hole for
- 30:42Speaker 1: what she claims to be a grave for the fireflies.
- 30:45Speaker 1: This causes Sata to cry, remembering that his mother was
- 30:47Speaker 1: denied the same. He begins to barter for food from farmers,
- 30:50Speaker 1: but they slowly start running out of money, and Sata
- 30:53Speaker 1: begins to start stealing food and loot bombed buildings for
- 30:55Speaker 1: more supplies, but Setsko starts to grow ill. Sata finally
- 30:59Speaker 1: takes her to a doc who informs him that she's

- 31:55Speaker 1: forgotten and died in the middle of something they had
- 31:58Speaker 1: no control over. It was as if they never existed
- 32:00Speaker 1: at all, and nobody cared. War is an uncaring beast
- 32:04Speaker 1: that meets human suffering with indifference, and Grave of the
- 32:07Speaker 1: Fireflies is a sober reminder of the humanity behind the statistics.
