- 0:10Speaker 1: Devon in the building.
- 0:12Speaker 2: Hello.
- 0:13Speaker 1: Hello, And he's already made my first, I would say,
- 0:17Speaker 1: my first round of dish. He made me smoothie with
- 0:21Speaker 1: what is pineapple, banana, ginger, root, rasberry, raspberries, blueberries, berries,
- 0:27Speaker 1: manuka oil oil, manuka honey honey.
- 0:31Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 0:32Speaker 1: So I'm already drinking good No, no, you who's for
- 0:35Speaker 1: the table this round? And now we're cooking something else
- 0:39Speaker 1: for me? I feel really really special right now. So
- 0:43Speaker 1: what are you making for me? Right now?
- 0:45Speaker 3: I'm like some garlic, kale, garlic, kale, fresh garlic. Thet
- 0:50Speaker 3: things heat up over here, you know, cooking it up.
- 1:15Speaker 1: So we talked before and we were talking about how
- 1:18Speaker 1: this show is all about eating while broke. But what
- 1:20Speaker 1: I loved what you said was like, no matter how
- 1:22Speaker 1: it broke, I was, I still made sure to eat healthy, healthy.
- 1:25Speaker 3: Yeah, to eat healthy like you know, I believe it
- 1:28Speaker 3: or not. You know, mushrooms and you know one red pepper,
- 1:34Speaker 3: you know, maybe a little bushel of kale, it's not
- 1:38Speaker 3: as expensive as one may think, you know what I mean.
- 1:41Speaker 1: It really wasn't. So some of the team was like, oh,
- 1:44Speaker 1: oyster mushrooms, it's so expensive. It was three dollars. Now
- 1:47Speaker 1: the question is what are you gonna make for me? Officially,
- 1:51Speaker 1: that's a real question because I was over here thinking
- 1:53Speaker 1: it was scrambled eggs, mushrooms.
- 1:56Speaker 3: Little mystery, little mystery mystery dish.
- 2:00Speaker 1: We're excited about it. Yeah, So take me back to
- 2:03Speaker 1: the beginning days. That's the hard times for him, you know.
- 2:08Speaker 3: I well, I always been hard working, you know what
- 2:10Speaker 3: I mean, even in the hardest of times. You know,
- 2:13Speaker 3: I've been working since I was fifteen, sixteen years old,
- 2:16Speaker 3: you know what I mean. So, like my first job
- 2:18Speaker 3: was Giant Food and Calverton, Maryland, uh, which is like
- 2:23Speaker 3: right there adjacent to uh Feltsville, Maryland.
- 2:28Speaker 1: Is that like grocery store? No?
- 2:30Speaker 3: What w Well you're a Giant Yeah, absolutely, yeah, so
- 2:33Speaker 3: your partial pick up and eventually you know, graduated to
- 2:36Speaker 3: doing you know, uh, customer service and.
- 2:41Speaker 2: And working a register and all the things. You know.
- 2:43Speaker 3: Well, every job I always had was in you know,
- 2:45Speaker 3: like customer service. I think it it like prepared me
- 2:48Speaker 3: for to be able to you know, be interact with people,
- 2:54Speaker 3: which is one of my favorite things to do, you know,
- 2:56Speaker 3: at the concerts.
- 2:58Speaker 1: And uh it did you know early on that you
- 3:01Speaker 1: wanted to be in music?
- 3:05Speaker 3: Yeah, I think that's something I always was drawn to,
- 3:11Speaker 3: you know, even as it even as you know, as
- 3:15Speaker 3: a kid young, you know what I mean. I mean,
- 3:17Speaker 3: I think I remember seeing like was it Motown twenty five?
- 3:22Speaker 3: You know, the Grammy Awards. I think I think right
- 3:25Speaker 3: around like eighty four eighty five is when I really
- 3:27Speaker 3: got that that itch.
- 3:29Speaker 2: You know.
- 3:30Speaker 1: Yeah, now you you grew up with music in the house, right.
- 3:34Speaker 3: Oh, absolutely, no single parent household. My father wasn't in
- 3:38Speaker 3: the household, but he was definitely was in my life.
- 3:41Speaker 3: He was a He was a classically trained child prodigy.
- 3:44Speaker 3: Cellis no No a boy, the artist name Ebduai dude.
- 3:50Speaker 2: My mother worked you know for I.
- 3:52Speaker 3: Guess you could say like a law enforcement no immigrations
- 3:58Speaker 3: was a was an officer for a long time.
- 4:00Speaker 2: Uh.
- 4:00Speaker 3: And but mom had the mom had the vinyl you know,
- 4:03Speaker 3: the dope vinyl collection. You know, go through her vinyl collections.
- 4:06Speaker 3: It's kind of just checking out, you know, different different artists,
- 4:10Speaker 3: discovering artists like Bob Molly.
- 4:12Speaker 2: You know, Quincy Jones as a producer, of course.
- 4:15Speaker 3: A lot of Marvin Gay, uh, you know, and then
- 4:18Speaker 3: I would and then and then I you know, spending
- 4:20Speaker 3: time with my dad, uh you know, in his background,
- 4:24Speaker 3: uh classically you know, and going through his collection and
- 4:27Speaker 3: stuff like that.
- 4:28Speaker 2: Uh.
- 4:29Speaker 3: I discovered Prince at a young age. You know, the
- 4:32Speaker 3: Purple Wing album. I totally probably shouldn't have been listening
- 4:34Speaker 3: to that, to that album at that age, but uh,
- 4:38Speaker 3: I was just fascinated and blown away, you know by Prince.
- 4:41Speaker 1: Did your parents know you could sing yet? Or did
- 4:43Speaker 1: they were they? Did they have an idea? No?
- 4:45Speaker 3: I kind of really just like kept that to myself.
- 4:49Speaker 3: I think singing. I was a late bloomer, like, you know,
- 4:54Speaker 3: pursuing the singing, singing thing, you know, first year of
- 4:56Speaker 3: college going to Copper State College. I graduated from High
- 4:59Speaker 3: Point and uh Peg County and you know, going to
- 5:04Speaker 3: Confidence where I really kind of like literally like found myself.
- 5:08Speaker 3: You know.
- 5:10Speaker 1: So before then, they didn't hear a like they didn't
- 5:13Speaker 1: have any idea that. Like they sent you off to
- 5:16Speaker 1: college and like it's gonna go get a college degree.
- 5:18Speaker 1: Did you tell them what you were going to college for.
- 5:22Speaker 3: I originally went to college, I was I was red shirted,
- 5:25Speaker 3: but I had I had a track scholarship. Yeah uh,
- 5:30Speaker 3: you know, as a distance runner, and and.
- 5:36Speaker 2: I thought I wanted to be in law enforcement.
- 5:38Speaker 3: And I went for three semesters I felt, you know,
- 5:41Speaker 3: I joined the singing group. I fell in love with
- 5:43Speaker 3: the art of like singing. And next thing, you know,
- 5:49Speaker 3: you know, I dropped out and here we are.
- 5:52Speaker 1: And before you now in that transition, you because I
- 5:56Speaker 1: read online, you know, you had kind of john harmonize
- 6:01Speaker 1: with this group on campus, and that was kind of
- 6:03Speaker 1: like the beginning is that cract? And then but at
- 6:07Speaker 1: what point do you go home and you say, hey, mom, dad,
- 6:10Speaker 1: this is the this is the the road change I'm making.
- 6:15Speaker 3: Well, it wasn't going back home at that point. I'm
- 6:17Speaker 3: an adult, you know, I kind of had kind of
- 6:19Speaker 3: figured it out. I slept on a few couches here
- 6:20Speaker 3: and then you know, I had some great friends who
- 6:24Speaker 3: you know, who definitely helped along the way in that process.
- 6:28Speaker 3: But I had to figure it out, you know. You know,
- 6:31Speaker 3: at some point I became a dad. You know, I'm
- 6:33Speaker 3: gonna try.
- 6:35Speaker 1: Well, we're cooking for two cool? I want you to
- 6:40Speaker 1: eat with me?
- 6:41Speaker 2: I kind of.
- 6:43Speaker 3: Yeah, I like to do it kind of like you know,
- 6:46Speaker 3: and appetizers or oh is this you can kind of
- 6:50Speaker 3: eat it?
- 6:51Speaker 2: You know what I mean?
- 6:53Speaker 1: Sports team shout outs to them, We're gonna eat it
- 6:55Speaker 1: a school from now. You don't watch y'all back here?
- 6:59Speaker 1: So I could try this, Yeah, absolutely, I'm gonna try it.
- 7:05Speaker 1: So before I try, I gotta ask you the road
- 7:10Speaker 1: of couch surfing. Was there any part of you that
- 7:12Speaker 1: was questioning whether this was your purpose?
- 7:15Speaker 2: Oh?
- 7:15Speaker 3: I mean I think I think definitely. Through life we
- 7:17Speaker 3: question what our purpose is. You know some people, some
- 7:20Speaker 3: people go to go through their entire life, uh, you know,
- 7:25Speaker 3: trying to figure out their their purpose. You know, some
- 7:29Speaker 3: people find it criocket than others. You know, how was
- 7:35Speaker 3: I think I went? I went through the process of
- 7:38Speaker 3: from from from from knowing to believing or from believing
- 7:44Speaker 3: in knowing.
- 7:44Speaker 2: Excuse me?
- 7:46Speaker 1: Oh man?
- 7:47Speaker 3: So, so you know that there's a process of like
- 7:48Speaker 3: believing that you can do something, and then there's something
- 7:51Speaker 3: like you know, absolutely knowing that hey, this is what
- 7:54Speaker 3: I want to do. I'm going to figure out how
- 7:57Speaker 3: to do it, you know, and uh, I think once
- 8:02Speaker 3: I mastered the art of like knowing and manifestation understanding
- 8:06Speaker 3: you know, the power of prayer. And when what was.
- 8:10Speaker 1: That epiphany of knowing? Like when did you know? You knew?
- 8:14Speaker 3: For me, it was like doing the open mics and
- 8:17Speaker 3: just seeing how people responded, okay, yeah to the you know,
- 8:20Speaker 3: to the music responded to me. You know, I always
- 8:25Speaker 3: was an artist that uh, I always had to have,
- 8:30Speaker 3: you know, even in my early career. You know, I
- 8:33Speaker 3: had I had product, I had CDs, I had, you know,
- 8:36Speaker 3: something that was tangible that people could you know, take
- 8:39Speaker 3: me home.
- 8:39Speaker 2: With them verse a. You know what I mean.
- 8:42Speaker 1: Uh.
- 8:42Speaker 3: And once I once I saw that or you know,
- 8:45Speaker 3: or a perform a song and I would see how
- 8:46Speaker 3: people would respond to it or ask me how could
- 8:48Speaker 3: they buy the song?
- 8:49Speaker 2: Then I knew I was on the something.
- 8:51Speaker 1: Now. Typically during that whole process, I would assume you
- 8:55Speaker 1: weren't were you were? You were still struggling financially. So
- 8:59Speaker 1: was there anybody around you that's like whoa you know,
- 9:04Speaker 1: is the is the math math making sense? Are you
- 9:07Speaker 1: still doing side hustles to No?
- 9:09Speaker 3: Definitely, definitely still working, uh day job, shy hustle stuff
- 9:13Speaker 3: you know jobs jobs that I have. Oh man, I
- 9:18Speaker 3: worked at UH, Like I said, giant food.
- 9:20Speaker 2: I worked at.
- 9:21Speaker 1: UH after college, after having baby and still pursuing music.
- 9:26Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, this is like, you know, definitely first son
- 9:29Speaker 3: in the picture at this point, you know, working, you know,
- 9:34Speaker 3: just trying to figure it out. I worked for I
- 9:37Speaker 3: worked for a long Fence. I worked for Chevy J's
- 9:39Speaker 3: bank telemarketing.
- 9:40Speaker 1: While still doing music.
- 9:42Speaker 3: Yeah, while still doing music. And is your go to
- 9:44Speaker 3: get this word stout? Where's where's my where's my shoe?
- 9:49Speaker 2: My shoe? Chef?
- 9:51Speaker 3: Tasha?
- 9:52Speaker 2: Help? Can we get that renched out for me? Thank you?
- 9:59Speaker 1: Yeah, thanks Tasha. So you're just just for all our listeners.
- 10:05Speaker 1: He's made a beautiful kaoe garlic salady like thing that
- 10:12Speaker 1: was like heated over the stove. Now he chopped up
- 10:15Speaker 1: the scallions, the onions, and the red peppers.
- 10:18Speaker 2: Tell her to bring some forks too.
- 10:20Speaker 1: Tell Tasha to bring forks. We're definitely going over your time,
- 10:24Speaker 1: because I feel like the story is starting to heat
- 10:26Speaker 1: up just as good as these dishes.
- 10:28Speaker 2: Sorry, yeah, it's all good.
- 10:32Speaker 1: So you're pursuing this is your the mother of your
- 10:35Speaker 1: child signaling any type of pressure on you to like
- 10:39Speaker 1: maybe possibly give up music. Is there anything?
- 10:41Speaker 3: Nah, I'm I'm, I'm, I'm I'm yeah, that's not that.
- 10:44Speaker 3: That's never a parent you know, whether it's co parenting
- 10:48Speaker 3: or my parents or whoever. Like at this point, I
- 10:52Speaker 3: got my in my mind what I'm doing, you know
- 10:54Speaker 3: what i mean? Okay, So yeah, as long as I'm
- 10:55Speaker 3: able to provide and you know, for my son, you know,
- 10:59Speaker 3: and take care of my my father's responsibilities. That was
- 11:03Speaker 3: never an option to like kind of dictate, like you know.
- 11:06Speaker 1: Like at this point you also know you know for sure.
- 11:09Speaker 3: Right, Yeah, I mean I'm yeah, I'm you know, it's
- 11:12Speaker 3: it's tunnel vision, you know what i mean, like not
- 11:14Speaker 3: having a backup plan, knowing that you know, this is
- 11:18Speaker 3: something that you want to do. Uh, and then and
- 11:21Speaker 3: and figuring out you know, like you know, you figure
- 11:24Speaker 3: it out, you master it, You figure out what works
- 11:26Speaker 3: for you, and you know, and then and then and
- 11:29Speaker 3: it's putting the right time, you know, the right team
- 11:31Speaker 3: around you too, you know.
- 11:33Speaker 1: Yeah. So was it early on in your career where
- 11:36Speaker 1: you got your first like publishing or writing.
- 11:40Speaker 3: So so so initially I was signed to a label.
- 11:46Speaker 3: H We're not signed to a label, excuse me. Initially,
- 11:50Speaker 3: I want to I won a contest, uh and at
- 11:56Speaker 3: open mic contest, and and when in that contests, I
- 12:01Speaker 3: used that money to get a CD burner and kind
- 12:03Speaker 3: of like start burning my own music, selling out of
- 12:06Speaker 3: the trunk another local artist and.
- 12:09Speaker 1: I'll bring you recording the music to burn it.
- 12:12Speaker 3: Well, another local artist and producer from the area. We
- 12:14Speaker 3: we teamed up and mobbed up and ended up getting
- 12:17Speaker 3: apartment together, and uh we formed a group called Urban
- 12:20Speaker 3: AF thirty one, which we went on to, uh, you know,
- 12:24Speaker 3: make a lot of great music. I need my cooking
- 12:26Speaker 3: oil was my cooking oil.
- 12:29Speaker 2: I think they brought something from the uh yeah, cooking.
- 12:35Speaker 3: Tasha cooking oil called Tasha Jajah come back here and
- 12:40Speaker 3: say it was we need cooking oil, cooking oil.
- 12:44Speaker 1: No, that's olive oil.
- 12:45Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 12:46Speaker 3: So we so we started, So we started, you know,
- 12:48Speaker 3: we started this group Urban After thirty one, we put
- 12:50Speaker 3: out a project called The Healing. Uh. You know, I
- 12:54Speaker 3: also teamed up with a phenomenal artist from DC.
- 12:58Speaker 2: It's kind of thank you, thank.
- 12:59Speaker 3: You, phenomenal artists from DC by the name of West Felton.
- 13:03Speaker 2: We formed a group called The Crossroads. So I always been.
- 13:06Speaker 3: Part of these like you know groups, and just even
- 13:10Speaker 3: in the early stages of my career, I understood what
- 13:12Speaker 3: it was to like reinvent myself as an artist, you
- 13:16Speaker 3: know what I mean, and and that and that there's
- 13:19Speaker 3: you know a lot of different genres of music that
- 13:21Speaker 3: that that that that you know, that I liked and
- 13:23Speaker 3: I wanted to participate in and you know that whole thing.
- 13:26Speaker 2: So it's kind of like, you know.
- 13:28Speaker 3: Figuring out how to do that being an independent artist
- 13:32Speaker 3: at the same time, you know, through the process of it,
- 13:35Speaker 3: and eventually, you know, what ended up happening was what
- 13:40Speaker 3: had happened was that you know, uh, I met some
- 13:45Speaker 3: producers from the area locally who were like super dope
- 13:49Speaker 3: and their managers and people that they did business with,
- 13:54Speaker 3: uh managed Genuine at the time, and uh you know,
- 13:58Speaker 3: I asked, I asked the dre Vons and Cliff Jones
- 14:02Speaker 3: at the time to manage me, which they which they
- 14:05Speaker 3: agreed to do, and you know, I just kind of
- 14:07Speaker 3: expressed them that I just wanted to kind of just
- 14:09Speaker 3: like do music full time, you know, and if there
- 14:12Speaker 3: was any opportunities to like you know, sing background for
- 14:17Speaker 3: any artist, you know, genuine whomever did I'd be interested
- 14:22Speaker 3: in doing it, and you know, I ended up getting
- 14:25Speaker 3: a call for the gig and touring with him still
- 14:28Speaker 3: while all while pursuing, you know, my career being part
- 14:32Speaker 3: of these different groups stuff as well.
- 14:33Speaker 1: And but at this point you're no back and there's
- 14:35Speaker 1: no us. You don't have a day.
- 14:38Speaker 3: Job, right, Nah, at this point there's no jay job.
- 14:41Speaker 3: So yeah, so you know, now you got past that hurdle.
- 14:44Speaker 3: Yeah so now so now so now it's like monetizing,
- 14:48Speaker 3: you know, in real time, you know.
- 14:50Speaker 1: So how long would you say that journey was that spam?
- 14:54Speaker 3: Oh man, you're talking anywhere between two thousand and you're
- 14:59Speaker 3: saying from like two thousand and.
- 15:02Speaker 2: Two too, like two thousand and two, I did the deal.
- 15:08Speaker 3: So you're talking, you're talking about this is right between
- 15:11Speaker 3: like nineteen ninety nine, say, or ninety eight through like
- 15:16Speaker 3: two thousand, like two thousand and one, you know where
- 15:23Speaker 3: you know, you know, just figuring it out, yeah, you know,
- 15:27Speaker 3: figuring it out and during that recording, what recording at
- 15:35Speaker 3: the time what would become the love experience, not knowing
- 15:38Speaker 3: at the time that that's what it would be, you know,
- 15:41Speaker 3: and just never putting all my all my options in
- 15:47Speaker 3: one you know, one basket, you know what I mean,
- 15:51Speaker 3: I think, you know, allowed me to be able to
- 15:53Speaker 3: do I could just be part of different things, you know,
- 15:55Speaker 3: I in this group I'm doing my solo thing is
- 15:57Speaker 3: Rahiem Devon, like you know, the option to that, you know,
- 16:03Speaker 3: you never know what's going to kind of take off,
- 16:05Speaker 3: you know, so you know, I was just just having
- 16:09Speaker 3: fun doing it the entire time, you know, because I
- 16:12Speaker 3: believe that anything, you know, what we do, it should
- 16:14Speaker 3: definitely be fun.
- 16:15Speaker 2: Right and.
- 16:18Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, the interest, the buzz started to really
- 16:22Speaker 3: start happening, you know, around two thousand and one, golding
- 16:25Speaker 3: over into two, I started to go to a lot
- 16:27Speaker 3: of artist showcases, RCA Records, whoever would have me. Like,
- 16:34Speaker 3: we went, we got a lot of we got it,
- 16:35Speaker 3: We got a lot of no's until we finally got it.
- 16:38Speaker 1: Yes, okay, you know how did you handle those no's?
- 16:42Speaker 3: I mean we just never gave up, you know, you
- 16:45Speaker 3: know I just kind of always like looked at it like, hey,
- 16:48Speaker 3: if it's not going to happen here, then hey stay lost,
- 16:53Speaker 3: stay what it's their loss.
- 16:55Speaker 1: It's their loss. Yeah of course, yeah, yeah, you know
- 16:59Speaker 1: were there's some lessons in there that you had to
- 17:01Speaker 1: learn about the industry.
- 17:03Speaker 3: Yeah, I just, I just I just I never gave up,
- 17:08Speaker 3: you know what I mean. I wouldn't say it was
- 17:09Speaker 3: it was that anything was like painful, like you know,
- 17:13Speaker 3: I you know, even then I understood that it was like,
- 17:15Speaker 3: you know, timing involved like I like, you know, I was,
- 17:18Speaker 3: I still was popping, you know what I mean. Yeah,
- 17:20Speaker 3: So you know we were doing at that point, We're
- 17:23Speaker 3: doing college gigs with the you know, with Urban after
- 17:28Speaker 3: thirty one, and you know, I'm I'm I'm when I'm
- 17:32Speaker 3: not out on the road doing my independent stuff, I'm
- 17:34Speaker 3: on the road with g vir Ginuine.
- 17:36Speaker 1: So it's you know, you're still moving in that forward motion.
- 17:41Speaker 3: It seems oh no, for sure.
- 17:42Speaker 1: And it sounds like you kept busy.
- 17:44Speaker 3: Yeah, absolutely absolutely, That's that's the name of the gang.
- 17:48Speaker 2: Like even like now, you know what I mean.
- 17:49Speaker 3: Like, yeah, you gotta stay busy and work and nobody's
- 17:53Speaker 3: gonna give you that.
- 17:54Speaker 2: You gotta work for it. You got ground for it,
- 17:56Speaker 2: you know, and you gotta.
- 17:57Speaker 1: Eat and you gotta eat to ask because this part
- 18:01Speaker 1: of the show, I have to say, have me the
- 18:04Speaker 1: most interested is the mushrooms. I know, this is a
- 18:07Speaker 1: sidebar for everyone. But I've never really cooked mushrooms like this,
- 18:10Speaker 1: so I'm just curious.
- 18:12Speaker 3: You we got so we got a little cornmeal, right,
- 18:15Speaker 3: and I saw you season it.
- 18:17Speaker 2: Yeah, we got the mushrooms popping. But the oyster, the
- 18:22Speaker 2: oyster mushrooms.
- 18:23Speaker 3: I use a little jets egg, okay, right, just to
- 18:26Speaker 3: get it, just to get it popping.
- 18:29Speaker 1: And then you let us sit in there, right, yeah,
- 18:30Speaker 1: let it.
- 18:31Speaker 3: Sit in there, marinate a little bit, season it a
- 18:33Speaker 3: little bit, and then we got the flour happening.
- 18:36Speaker 1: And yeah, I'm so excited. I've never seen it. So
- 18:40Speaker 1: if you would have left here and you would have
- 18:42Speaker 1: like not gotten to this part, I promise you I
- 18:46Speaker 1: would have been texting your management like it is, right.
- 18:50Speaker 3: I just want to thing about the kel you know,
- 18:53Speaker 3: even as it gets a little cool.
- 18:56Speaker 2: Mm hmm, there we go. That sound like.
- 19:00Speaker 3: Yes, I've been waiting for that.
- 19:02Speaker 1: I was waiting for it when you first put it in.
- 19:04Speaker 1: I've seen someone on this show took water and did it,
- 19:07Speaker 1: and I was scared.
- 19:08Speaker 2: This is not the move.
- 19:09Speaker 3: Yes, that's not the move.
- 19:11Speaker 1: She made some really great onion rings.
- 19:14Speaker 2: That's what's up.
- 19:16Speaker 1: The kale is really good, So you just eat the
- 19:20Speaker 1: mushrooms all by itself on the plate with the kale.
- 19:23Speaker 2: Well do you yeah, I mean it's like kind of
- 19:25Speaker 2: like a.
- 19:27Speaker 3: Th This is like like a vegan chicken nugget, you know,
- 19:32Speaker 3: finger fool you know, do you know.
- 19:35Speaker 1: If there's any benefits to the mushroom.
- 19:38Speaker 3: That's I think there's always beneficial to rushrooms.
- 19:40Speaker 1: Oh okay, So where do you see yourself going from here?
- 19:47Speaker 1: Like what's next on the milestones for you?
- 19:49Speaker 2: You know, it's crazy.
- 19:50Speaker 3: It's crazy because after nineteen years, I'm on a I'm
- 19:54Speaker 3: on a any client still you don't want to pivot?
- 19:57Speaker 2: Like it's been great.
- 19:58Speaker 3: I just finished a nineteen city tour let us uh
- 20:01Speaker 3: you know, which was which was amazing. You know, I'm
- 20:06Speaker 3: putting out music quarterly. Quarterly, yeah, quarterly, you know, been
- 20:10Speaker 3: putting out the seasonal projects, you know, Summer of Love,
- 20:13Speaker 3: Fall in Love, Winter and Love, you know, for spring,
- 20:16Speaker 3: we're doing a series of.
- 20:18Speaker 2: Of singles you know, which are being received. Well. So yeah,
- 20:24Speaker 2: I mean, it's it's it's it's God's a limit.
- 20:27Speaker 3: Definitely what I definitely see myself doing more television and
- 20:30Speaker 3: film and and things of that nature. But it's still
- 20:33Speaker 3: so much of the world that I haven't seen touring
- 20:48Speaker 3: as a recording artist, you know, and uh, and possibilities
- 20:52Speaker 3: that are out there. Definitely get into some strategic partnerships.
- 20:55Speaker 3: Shout out to Gilead Sciencest, who was phenomenal, uh, you know,
- 21:00Speaker 3: you know for the Raheem Devon brand and their brand
- 21:03Speaker 3: and all the wonderful work that they're doing in the community,
- 21:05Speaker 3: you know, advocating and you know, they invested over twelve
- 21:09Speaker 3: million dollars in grants, you know, to create awareness and
- 21:13Speaker 3: break down the stigmas about HIV and age and house
- 21:15Speaker 3: affecting black women and girls you know, here in the country,
- 21:19Speaker 3: here in the state with them. Well, you know, I
- 21:21Speaker 3: you know, I do a lot of community work.
- 21:23Speaker 1: Yeah, I didn't know that.
- 21:24Speaker 2: Yeah. When I'm not you know, praying.
- 21:27Speaker 1: For me gomet eating Wall Broke episode. I promise you
- 21:32Speaker 1: I'm gonna go home and try to do all of this.
- 21:34Speaker 2: Listen, you can do it. You can do it.
- 21:36Speaker 3: You can you can you can eat while broke and
- 21:39Speaker 3: still be you know healthy.
- 21:41Speaker 2: You know what I mean, which is the name of
- 21:43Speaker 2: the game.
- 21:43Speaker 1: You know, I'm gonna be really judging the muscrooms really hard.
- 21:47Speaker 1: By the way, I have another random question when it
- 21:49Speaker 1: comes to the mushrooms. Earlier, I had said, when I
- 21:51Speaker 1: was looking at the packs of mushrooms, one of them
- 21:53Speaker 1: they look like really wet. Is that like a sign
- 21:57Speaker 1: you shouldn't buy mushrooms if the package is look I
- 22:00Speaker 1: looked at them.
- 22:00Speaker 2: I think they were They're pretty good.
- 22:02Speaker 3: Pick the one that was Oh yeah, I mean yeah, yeah,
- 22:05Speaker 3: I think if it's I think, if it's ever in question,
- 22:08Speaker 3: if you ever have to ask, then yeah, yeah.
- 22:11Speaker 1: I was sitting there like, I don't know.
- 22:12Speaker 3: I would definitely say, trust your impulse on that, you know.
- 22:15Speaker 1: But the ones I got you.
- 22:16Speaker 3: Did you did good.
- 22:17Speaker 2: You did good, you did good.
- 22:19Speaker 1: I love how you're really chefing it, you know. So
- 22:22Speaker 1: who are you currently signed to?
- 22:24Speaker 2: I'm currently signed to myself.
- 22:27Speaker 1: That's what I want to talk about. So what was
- 22:30Speaker 1: you You were signed the Jibe at one point.
- 22:34Speaker 3: Right, Yeah, so Jibe was from two thousand and two,
- 22:38Speaker 3: the first album came out of five and then by
- 22:44Speaker 3: two thousand and eleven, you know, January first, twenty eleven when.
- 22:50Speaker 2: I became independent again. So about fifteen fifteen years give
- 22:55Speaker 2: a take that I've.
- 22:57Speaker 1: Been indy, you know, And what would you say the
- 23:01Speaker 1: pros and the cons of being indie.
- 23:02Speaker 3: R Man, I mean, definitely you make more money long
- 23:10Speaker 3: long term. I mean, I think the main thing is
- 23:14Speaker 3: about the ownership of it, you know, and just being
- 23:17Speaker 3: able to just kind of just just dictate your destiny.
- 23:19Speaker 2: You can put out music when you want, you know.
- 23:24Speaker 3: Yeah, it's just something about having your own you know,
- 23:27Speaker 3: you know, and being having ownership.
- 23:29Speaker 2: It's so important.
- 23:31Speaker 1: You know, on the first record, on that record that
- 23:34Speaker 1: you put out with Jove, though, was your deal? Did
- 23:38Speaker 1: you not get your own majority of it or what
- 23:40Speaker 1: was that deal? Well?
- 23:41Speaker 3: No, I mean, I'm I'm I'm a I'm a published
- 23:43Speaker 3: writer and producer and all these things, you know what
- 23:45Speaker 3: I mean. So it really, you know, being independent comes
- 23:47Speaker 3: down to having ownership of the master like you know.
- 23:50Speaker 2: Yeah, so you know bucket lists.
- 23:52Speaker 3: I want to I definitely want to go back and
- 23:53Speaker 3: get the masters for the Love Experience album, Love Behind
- 23:56Speaker 3: the Melody, and the Level More Masterpiece in particular. You know, uh,
- 24:01Speaker 3: which were the three releases that I had with you
- 24:03Speaker 3: you know, yeah.
- 24:05Speaker 1: I know when we interviewed, I interviewed Bone Thugs and
- 24:08Speaker 1: Harmony here and they rush still waiting. I think they
- 24:10Speaker 1: had like another year before they can get their masks
- 24:13Speaker 1: something like that, and it was really important to them, too.
- 24:17Speaker 2: Very important thing. I got a baked potatoes your stove, so.
- 24:23Speaker 3: This is really cook You're gonna have to excuse me
- 24:26Speaker 3: and get them. I'm gonna go. I just want to.
- 24:29Speaker 3: I'm hoping prayerfully that they're that they're did that go,
- 24:32Speaker 3: We're gonna take a quick love king break, ladies, gentlemen,
- 24:34Speaker 3: not be right back.
- 24:35Speaker 2: The two finger snaps.
- 24:40Speaker 1: And I was just really good garlic direct.
- 24:44Speaker 2: Are they ready? Yeah? I don't know if they're ready.
- 24:48Speaker 2: That one might be ready. They're not. That's that's yea.
- 24:52Speaker 3: It must have. It looked like it cut off on you. Yeah,
- 24:55Speaker 3: it keeps cutting off. Oh wow, yeah, he keeps cutting off.
- 25:02Speaker 2: Let's do this.
- 25:07Speaker 1: So guys, just so you know a little behind the
- 25:08Speaker 1: scenes about Rahee. He's really into this cooking thing. Okay.
- 25:12Speaker 1: We try to like tell him, you know, you don't
- 25:14Speaker 1: have to make smoothies.
- 25:15Speaker 2: I don't know what that means.
- 25:15Speaker 3: You don't have to.
- 25:18Speaker 1: Hey, we'll pre cook, we'll preachop everything. He was like, no,
- 25:21Speaker 1: I got this really into cooking. Wondered if he was
- 25:24Speaker 1: really into cooking. He's really into cooking. He seems like
- 25:28Speaker 1: real legit with this. Most guess we could talk them
- 25:30Speaker 1: out of it.
- 25:31Speaker 2: Really, they don't have.
- 25:45Speaker 1: I'm sure Tony is back there having a heart attack
- 25:47Speaker 1: over the time. I feel the pressure, Tony. I could
- 25:51Speaker 1: feel you, and you come. Rahine's back, everybody. I was
- 25:58Speaker 1: talking to the camera. I was telling him what I
- 26:00Speaker 1: thought about you. Oh yeah, I was just telling Tony.
- 26:04Speaker 1: I could feel his energy. I feel you, Tony pressuring me.
- 26:12Speaker 2: I'm bad.
- 26:14Speaker 1: He's enjoying this cooking. Okay, do you want me to
- 26:17Speaker 1: open these? Do you want me to do anything?
- 26:20Speaker 2: You can't do that? Don't be messing around in my kitchen.
- 26:23Speaker 1: Now, he's enjoying this. Do you see this? So when
- 26:27Speaker 1: you're at home by yourself, do you cook like this? Oh?
- 26:30Speaker 2: I cook in spurts.
- 26:32Speaker 3: I'm you know, yeah, life is you know, it's it's interesting.
- 26:37Speaker 3: This is the busiest I ever been in my entire career.
- 26:41Speaker 3: So yeah, so to uh so to you know, to
- 26:48Speaker 3: have time is always the challenge, you know. Uh yeah,
- 26:53Speaker 3: so you know that's the challenge. Time is the challenge.
- 26:56Speaker 1: So what's your cheap meal when you're this busy?
- 27:00Speaker 3: Sorry? I mean this is like a go to like
- 27:01Speaker 3: if you get it, if you get if you get like,
- 27:03Speaker 3: you know, a hotel room, uh with the kitchen, you
- 27:09Speaker 3: know what I mean. You don't have to have the
- 27:10Speaker 3: gas stove. You know, you have a couple of ingredients
- 27:14Speaker 3: and just do your thing, you know what I mean.
- 27:16Speaker 3: It's just like it's just like a is.
- 27:17Speaker 1: There a reason why you choose them?
- 27:19Speaker 3: Malayan salt.
- 27:23Speaker 1: I feel like it's also a little saltier.
- 27:25Speaker 3: No, I don't know.
- 27:28Speaker 2: I mean it could be.
- 27:29Speaker 3: It could be a little saltier, but it's definitely a
- 27:32Speaker 3: lot healthier though, Okay, yeah, definitely a lot healthier.
- 27:37Speaker 2: Yeah, definitely a lot healthier.
- 27:38Speaker 1: But you're not vegan.
- 27:40Speaker 3: I have been vegan most of my life. I have
- 27:43Speaker 3: periods where you know, I do I'm currently like I
- 27:47Speaker 3: guess I would say pro tarry, you know, and yeah
- 27:50Speaker 3: in the sense of, uh you.
- 27:52Speaker 1: Dip your pinky into the.
- 27:57Speaker 3: Yeah, I'll do I'll do lamb and I'll do wild
- 28:00Speaker 3: caught fish like evident that It just I just feel
- 28:04Speaker 3: like it agrees with my digestive track. I mean, yeah,
- 28:08Speaker 3: it just agrees with me, you know what I mean.
- 28:11Speaker 3: You know, me being a blood type that I am
- 28:13Speaker 3: and just blood type absolutely.
- 28:17Speaker 1: I want to get one of those done because I
- 28:19Speaker 1: I a doctor told me I was alerted to red meat.
- 28:22Speaker 1: So do you hear enough episodes of eating while broken?
- 28:25Speaker 3: Hear me say yeah, I mean yeah, yeah, yeah. The
- 28:27Speaker 3: thing that yeah, the thing is so it's just like,
- 28:29Speaker 3: you know, it's good to know like what your you know,
- 28:32Speaker 3: what what agrees with your body and what you know
- 28:35Speaker 3: what serves your body best?
- 28:36Speaker 2: You know what I mean?
- 28:37Speaker 1: What made you get me?
- 28:38Speaker 3: I feel I feel like you kind of like are
- 28:41Speaker 3: indirectly slowly poisoning yourself by doing anything other than that? Yeah,
- 28:46Speaker 3: you know what I mean?
- 28:47Speaker 1: I agree with that.
- 28:47Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 28:47Speaker 1: So it also takes I think maturity because I was
- 28:50Speaker 1: telling my friends I knew I was alerted to red
- 28:52Speaker 1: meat at the age of twenty four, but I didn't
- 28:54Speaker 1: stop till I was like thirty six. And why do
- 28:57Speaker 1: you think Why do you think I was just immature?
- 29:00Speaker 1: It's an immaturity.
- 29:01Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 29:01Speaker 1: Now, if I see oxtail or short rep, I'm like,
- 29:04Speaker 1: no matter how much I love you, I'm not doing it.
- 29:09Speaker 1: This is the part I've been dying to try it.
- 29:11Speaker 1: Can we show it to the camera?
- 29:12Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, I get that.
- 29:13Speaker 1: Guys, that looks legit.
- 29:16Speaker 2: Yeah, where's my oh my dog, my dog my dollar.
- 29:20Speaker 1: I'm excited about this. Here we go, Here we go.
- 29:25Speaker 2: You got some options of.
- 29:27Speaker 1: Do we have dipping sauces?
- 29:29Speaker 2: Sorry?
- 29:29Speaker 1: Options?
- 29:30Speaker 2: Yeah, you have difference. You have dipping sauces too. Absolutely
- 29:36Speaker 2: shut that right there.
- 29:39Speaker 1: I'm gonna try and make this at home. I'm gonna
- 29:41Speaker 1: send your team some pictures of it.
- 29:43Speaker 3: So you got oh, okay, we got we got sauces.
- 29:47Speaker 2: Okay, yeah, I just want to try.
- 29:50Speaker 1: I'm gonna try it. Here we go.
- 29:57Speaker 2: So we got cherioockey sauce right there, and we'll do so.
- 30:05Speaker 1: Who was your favorite collab in your career?
- 30:09Speaker 3: My favorite collab? Yeah, man, I worked with a lot
- 30:12Speaker 3: of people, of course, you know, uh ghost Face and
- 30:16Speaker 3: Ray Kwan, you know, definitely always bucket list stuff, DJ Jazzy,
- 30:21Speaker 3: Jeff Kenny, Dope. I can't say like I have a
- 30:24Speaker 3: necessarily a favorite.
- 30:26Speaker 1: Bless you do you have a favorite at least collaboration
- 30:31Speaker 1: where it was a g overall just great experience from
- 30:33Speaker 1: beginning to end, or experience that surprised you.
- 30:40Speaker 3: Man.
- 30:41Speaker 4: Uh.
- 30:41Speaker 3: I think the roots, the roots, you know, me working
- 30:43Speaker 3: with the roots and just the way that whole Uh,
- 30:47Speaker 3: that whole situation happened with rich uh Nicholas, who was
- 30:52Speaker 3: kind of like the hidden member Slash. I guess you
- 30:55Speaker 3: could say manager uh for the group, you know, being
- 30:59Speaker 3: this being the studio with Raymond Angry and Black Thought
- 31:02Speaker 3: working on these records one on one at the time,
- 31:06Speaker 3: rich Rich kind of being very specific about what type
- 31:09Speaker 3: of records he wanted me to make.
- 31:13Speaker 2: There's a song on They're called.
- 31:14Speaker 3: A Man with No Future Future and the irony, the
- 31:17Speaker 3: irony of the song is that I didn't know at
- 31:22Speaker 3: the time, and I don't I'm not sure how many
- 31:24Speaker 3: people know at the time, but Rich was Rich was
- 31:26Speaker 3: uh was was was was.
- 31:29Speaker 2: Uh terminally ill.
- 31:32Speaker 3: So he had me so so I remember having this
- 31:34Speaker 3: conversation with him on the phone about creating this record
- 31:39Speaker 3: about a man with no future, not knowing that I
- 31:42Speaker 3: was making basically like the soundtrack of his life. Oh wow. Yeah.
- 31:45Speaker 3: And I don't know if I don't I don't know
- 31:47Speaker 3: if he ever shared that with Black Thought.
- 31:51Speaker 2: But it just uh yeah.
- 31:53Speaker 3: So it's kind of well, when when when the album
- 31:57Speaker 3: when like literally he passed, like the week that the
- 32:00Speaker 3: album dropped, or like I want to say, like right
- 32:02Speaker 3: before the album dropped. Like maybe maybe maybe within that
- 32:06Speaker 3: thirty day. I can't remember the timeline, but like and
- 32:08Speaker 3: it was just like wow, like Rich pat and then
- 32:10Speaker 3: and then it came out like, hey, Rich had been sick.
- 32:12Speaker 2: I didn't.
- 32:13Speaker 3: So then so then I started going back to the
- 32:14Speaker 3: conversations that we had that we had been having about
- 32:19Speaker 3: the music and how specific he was he you know,
- 32:23Speaker 3: when he told me the concept of what he wanted
- 32:28Speaker 3: and what, you know, what what the production was saying
- 32:30Speaker 3: to him. And then I say and then I'm like, yo, wow,
- 32:35Speaker 3: this was about him.
- 32:36Speaker 2: How's your How's I.
- 32:37Speaker 1: Want to try it? I'm gonna try it right now, guys,
- 32:39Speaker 1: I'm gonna try it without seasoning.
- 32:41Speaker 2: I'm going there. Really, you're going there.
- 32:45Speaker 3: We shouse chicken, Rob it's schuey.
- 32:49Speaker 2: It was not dry like chicken tender tender.
- 32:57Speaker 1: Yeah, it's tender. Well, it's chewy, a little bit.
- 33:02Speaker 2: Chew.
- 33:03Speaker 1: I wasn't too sure if I could like actually successfully
- 33:06Speaker 1: bite it, so I shoved the whole thing in. Guys.
- 33:08Speaker 1: Which one was the cheriochy? This one? This one?
- 33:13Speaker 2: Yeah, I think that that's.
- 33:15Speaker 1: Yeah old I tried. I feel like this would go
- 33:18Speaker 1: really good with.
- 33:19Speaker 3: Ranch by the way, guys, Yeah, a ranch would do
- 33:24Speaker 3: me and myself, I'd have to do like a vegan ranch.
- 33:28Speaker 1: I think that's barbecue. You tried this one?
- 33:32Speaker 2: Yeah, that's that's barbecue. And that's yeah.
- 33:36Speaker 1: I'm gonna eat all of these, guys. I don't know
- 33:40Speaker 1: if I'm hungry or if I just like it.
- 33:42Speaker 3: I think I think I like it.
- 33:43Speaker 2: I think I might be onto something.
- 33:44Speaker 1: Guys, something gonna come in to my house and be like,
- 33:47Speaker 1: what are you making? I'm making?
- 33:50Speaker 2: It's banging with the barbecue. Barbecue, that's it.
- 33:55Speaker 3: Yeah, barbecue is quite better, but the barbecue gives it
- 34:03Speaker 3: the pop.
- 34:04Speaker 1: Is there a reason why you chose to cornmeal? Holding?
- 34:08Speaker 1: I'm gonna eat all of these? Did you? Did you
- 34:10Speaker 1: have more? But did I? There's more. I don't want
- 34:14Speaker 1: to be that person that like eats all the food
- 34:16Speaker 1: and the guy looks up and he's like, wait, did
- 34:18Speaker 1: you eat it all? That happened to me one time.
- 34:22Speaker 1: It was really embarrassed, really embarrassed.
- 34:25Speaker 3: That's really good. Where's my sous where's my shoe chef?
- 34:30Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 34:32Speaker 3: I need I need the sour cream and the sour
- 34:35Speaker 3: cream and cheese out of the out of the fridge.
- 34:39Speaker 1: Yep, And uh does your team know that you're passionate about.
- 34:45Speaker 2: Personal Okay, what do you think? I'm here, but.
- 34:48Speaker 1: I'm saying because I think Tony's gonna murder us. No,
- 34:52Speaker 1: you gotta be a You're.
- 34:54Speaker 2: Not gonna even speak that into assistance.
- 34:57Speaker 3: I feel the pressure.
- 34:59Speaker 1: I'm gonna eat all of Is there a reason why
- 35:02Speaker 1: you chose the corn meal holding?
- 35:05Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean no, no, no, no, no no no, no, no
- 35:08Speaker 3: no no.
- 35:10Speaker 1: It's like on the table. It's on the table. It
- 35:13Speaker 1: looks like a little.
- 35:17Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 35:19Speaker 2: And what we're gonna do because we're gonna have.
- 35:22Speaker 1: To don't do this one.
- 35:25Speaker 2: We're gonna have to.
- 35:26Speaker 1: I just don't.
- 35:27Speaker 2: Improvise a bit. Where's my knife? Where's my knife? Myna?
- 35:34Speaker 1: Oh here?
- 35:34Speaker 2: Sorry, yes, yeah, you can just sit it right here.
- 35:38Speaker 1: I need to keep basking this. But is there a
- 35:40Speaker 1: reason why you keep why you use the corn meal
- 35:43Speaker 1: outing but the corn meal outside on the and versus
- 35:48Speaker 1: any other bredding for the mushroom?
- 35:52Speaker 2: I just like the texture. How do you like it?
- 35:56Speaker 1: I like the texture? But I was just curious, like
- 35:58Speaker 1: if it was a flavor thing or was a texture.
- 36:01Speaker 2: A flavored texture?
- 36:02Speaker 1: You know, I'm curious if you were to do this
- 36:04Speaker 1: corn meal outing with a different bread.
- 36:08Speaker 3: Now, if I'd have had more time, I probably would
- 36:10Speaker 3: have did a I probably would have did a.
- 36:17Speaker 2: A U.
- 36:19Speaker 3: I probably would have fried it and then put it
- 36:22Speaker 3: in the oven for a little bit too.
- 36:24Speaker 2: Why just to give it a little more, For a little.
- 36:28Speaker 1: More, I'm waiting for more. It's good though.
- 36:33Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 36:33Speaker 1: So the only reason why I'm saying that is either
- 36:35Speaker 1: it's like I like the texture, but I feel like
- 36:40Speaker 1: either mixing it with another breadcrumb or maybe maybe adding
- 36:45Speaker 1: like garlic powder and onion powder or something maybe to it.
- 36:50Speaker 3: Bro You know the thing is too it's in the
- 36:53Speaker 3: keys in seasoning. You know you could seizon your flower.
- 36:57Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 36:57Speaker 3: So again, you know, it's really about how much time
- 37:00Speaker 3: you have. No Usually when you're eating broke, you're trying
- 37:03Speaker 3: to get to somewhere to make some money.
- 37:04Speaker 1: This is so good. This ain't eating this ain't this
- 37:07Speaker 1: is this is I'm glad you did this because it's
- 37:10Speaker 1: teaching all of us that we can eat healthy and
- 37:13Speaker 1: on a budget, and that being you could also be
- 37:17Speaker 1: vegan and.
- 37:18Speaker 3: Also eat on a budget, absolutely.
- 37:21Speaker 1: Which I never thought. I never knew. But I've been
- 37:23Speaker 1: watching these new videos that people are like turning like
- 37:25Speaker 1: lion mushroom. Have you ever seen a lion mushom?
- 37:30Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 37:30Speaker 3: Yeah, absolutely, you do that. Yeah, absolutely, that was a
- 37:35Speaker 3: potential actual d the DMV.
- 37:44Speaker 1: Just come back every day and just show us a
- 37:45Speaker 1: new vegan lesson. Okay, I mean.
- 37:49Speaker 3: That that sounds good. It sounds like it's good to
- 37:51Speaker 3: the pilot.
- 37:52Speaker 1: It's amazing, Like I'm.
- 37:54Speaker 3: Doing a good job here, ladies, gentlemen.
- 37:56Speaker 1: What is some things that fans would be shocked to
- 37:59Speaker 1: know about you side is the fact that you love
- 38:01Speaker 1: to cook.
- 38:06Speaker 3: Maybe I guess my love for you know, community and
- 38:08Speaker 3: just the work that I you know, how passionate I
- 38:10Speaker 3: am about the community work that I do. And then
- 38:13Speaker 3: and then and then I guess just you know, just
- 38:15Speaker 3: a passion too for the passion that I have for
- 38:19Speaker 3: working with you know, uh well community. But it also
- 38:25Speaker 3: just like the fans, like you know what I mean,
- 38:27Speaker 3: the meet and greets and just the whole the way
- 38:29Speaker 3: you know, that exchange it happenings live like something that is.
- 38:32Speaker 2: Very important, you know, very very important to me.
- 38:36Speaker 1: Was there anything that happened during your career or life
- 38:39Speaker 1: that was like a major pivotal moment?
- 38:41Speaker 3: Yeah, the loss of my dad you know, is going
- 38:44Speaker 3: on two years and my dad passed and and I
- 38:48Speaker 3: I can say that it's definitely been, uh been a
- 38:52Speaker 3: pivot for me, you know, in the sense of, I'm
- 38:56Speaker 3: gonna kind of do do you do you some thing
- 39:01Speaker 3: because we're pressed for time and we are eating while
- 39:04Speaker 3: we're broke. I'm gonna do like a dice. Uh you
- 39:11Speaker 3: are really like, we're gonna do like you a dice.
- 39:15Speaker 1: Potatoe.
- 39:16Speaker 3: We're gonna call it a dice. Uh, it's not mashed
- 39:19Speaker 3: a dice, baked potato.
- 39:21Speaker 2: You know what I mean.
- 39:22Speaker 1: Okay, this looks legit.
- 39:24Speaker 2: Yeah, we call it a Mexican.
- 39:25Speaker 1: I've never seen anybody do this. Yeah, let's see how
- 39:29Speaker 1: that you're really showing off?
- 39:31Speaker 2: How that? How that? How that? We'll see how that?
- 39:33Speaker 1: How that?
- 39:33Speaker 2: How that does you did? Let's see and uh, let's
- 39:37Speaker 2: take that off there. So we're gonna burn things?
- 39:40Speaker 1: Do you have to take those out and burn.
- 39:41Speaker 2: The house down?
- 39:42Speaker 1: Stay all right?
- 39:45Speaker 2: I think we pretty much Tony's gonna be excited because
- 39:49Speaker 2: we pretty much.
- 39:50Speaker 1: To hear the rest of pretty much done here about
- 39:52Speaker 1: your dad?
- 39:54Speaker 3: Yeah, so so yeah, about that, it's basically where's my
- 39:58Speaker 3: sour cream? So it's basically like you know, that's a
- 40:02Speaker 3: when you lose you know, a parent, child, you know,
- 40:06Speaker 3: a loved one, something.
- 40:10Speaker 2: Of that magnitude.
- 40:11Speaker 3: Will you know, it can break your spirit m like completely,
- 40:15Speaker 3: Like you know, some people don't bounce back from from
- 40:17Speaker 3: situations like that, you know what I mean, like mentally
- 40:20Speaker 3: you know, just talk about depression and just like all
- 40:23Speaker 3: the things right, so you know, but for me, it's
- 40:27Speaker 3: definitely been part of my my pivot one one me
- 40:30Speaker 3: knowing that you know, that energy is always.
- 40:33Speaker 2: Around me.
- 40:35Speaker 3: And just you know, just just just knowing that you know,
- 40:39Speaker 3: the spirit lives forever. So I feel, I I f
- 40:41Speaker 3: I I feel my dad and my loved one and
- 40:44Speaker 3: my ancestors and you know and and all that I do.
- 40:48Speaker 1: Do you feel like your dad was very proud of you?
- 40:50Speaker 3: And oh?
- 40:50Speaker 2: Absolutely absolutely.
- 40:52Speaker 3: I think the the tough the toughest part for me
- 40:54Speaker 3: is probably having has been having to has been having
- 40:59Speaker 3: to it's after the show. My dad was the type
- 41:16Speaker 3: of person. Yeah, my dad would be the person that
- 41:20Speaker 3: would like call me, you know once the show was
- 41:23Speaker 3: once the show was done, like you know what I mean, Like, hey,
- 41:25Speaker 3: I was to show the night type vibes you.
- 41:31Speaker 1: I like the way it looks. But I know what
- 41:33Speaker 1: that tastes like, right, that's yeah, but they're not. Yeah,
- 41:36Speaker 1: let's do the thin one that's farthest from the seed.
- 41:39Speaker 3: Let's do this. I break you, I break you down
- 41:43Speaker 3: one into like just for the presentation.
- 41:46Speaker 1: I love how passionate you are about this. What would
- 41:52Speaker 1: you say your secret ingredient would be to life? Like,
- 41:56Speaker 1: if you had to say one secret ingredient to life,
- 42:00Speaker 1: what would you say it is? Am I allowed to
- 42:01Speaker 1: try this?
- 42:01Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 42:02Speaker 3: Yeah, that's the dude, he govin. Yeah, I would say
- 42:08Speaker 3: it's my secret ingredient to life. Uh is No, it's
- 42:16Speaker 3: it's it's you know, it's the I think. I think
- 42:18Speaker 3: it's the art of hustling, you know what I mean,
- 42:20Speaker 3: like like just you know, it's the art of hustling.
- 42:23Speaker 3: Understand that you're gonna go out and you gotta get
- 42:25Speaker 3: out and go go get it. And you know part
- 42:29Speaker 3: part part of the art of hustling is like it's uh,
- 42:34Speaker 3: it's it's not only manifestation, but it's about at the
- 42:37Speaker 3: end of the day, you know, it's about ownership, you know.
- 42:40Speaker 3: And uh, for me, you know, my one of the
- 42:44Speaker 3: greatest intellectual properties is my is my music, you know,
- 42:51Speaker 3: so for the so for example, the deal that I
- 42:53Speaker 3: have with even Diabez and how I'm usializing that new
- 42:56Speaker 3: platform that's out there for great artists or any any
- 42:59Speaker 3: artists out there. If you're independent artists, you want to
- 43:02Speaker 3: make eighty percent of the revenue. You want to go
- 43:04Speaker 3: from zero point zero three percent streaming wise and have
- 43:09Speaker 3: exclusiveivity to where to where you can bring your fanship
- 43:12Speaker 3: to one place and and and and and see your
- 43:15Speaker 3: and see your streams go from you know, get paid
- 43:18Speaker 3: off of your streams, you know, a fraction of a
- 43:20Speaker 3: penny versus versus two dollars. I think the two dollars
- 43:23Speaker 3: or a dollar twenty five sounds.
- 43:25Speaker 2: Good than me on what platform?
- 43:26Speaker 3: And that's even dot biz e V E N dot
- 43:29Speaker 3: biz b I Z. And you know, I released the
- 43:33Speaker 3: Winner of Love project there first, uh, which is which
- 43:37Speaker 3: is still doing extremely well. And now you know, I'm
- 43:40Speaker 3: doing side artists deals with with with phenomenal artists like
- 43:43Speaker 3: the poet Rob Brown who just dropped her project. There's
- 43:46Speaker 3: no place like knowing, you know side.
- 43:52Speaker 1: What does that mean?
- 43:53Speaker 3: So that's like Raheem Devon presents. Okay, yeah, yeah, So
- 43:57Speaker 3: so you know presenting other artists and using my platform
- 44:00Speaker 3: to you know, uh, to to to to expose my
- 44:03Speaker 3: fans and music lovers to to new art, you know,
- 44:06Speaker 3: new new poetry, you know, phenomenal poets, musicians, you know.
- 44:11Speaker 1: You know see this, They're gonna ask, well, how do
- 44:14Speaker 1: we get our music in front of you so we
- 44:16Speaker 1: can get on that radar?
- 44:17Speaker 3: Oh It's so easy. I mean, I'm not I'm not
- 44:19Speaker 3: hard to find. I would say definitely start with the
- 44:21Speaker 3: Graham Instagram, Rahiem underscored devon uh official website, Raheem Devon
- 44:27Speaker 3: Online doc Global. You know, I'm you know, sliding the dms.
- 44:34Speaker 1: Some of those dms have blockers? Does your How do
- 44:37Speaker 1: you know if yours does or doesn't?
- 44:38Speaker 3: Well, I mean one only have one page artist page,
- 44:41Speaker 3: and and and those and if you know, you know,
- 44:43Speaker 3: I'm very very engaging, you know.
- 44:47Speaker 2: On the platform.
- 44:48Speaker 3: So yeah, it's you know, how at me, you know
- 44:51Speaker 3: what I mean, part of part of, part of, part
- 44:53Speaker 3: of being an independent artist. And I think a successful
- 44:56Speaker 3: independent artist is it's uh, it's it's it's it's about
- 45:02Speaker 3: being accessible to the fans. How how do you like
- 45:06Speaker 3: your I just want to say, nice baked potato.
- 45:08Speaker 1: This is the most inappropriate question I will ever ask
- 45:10Speaker 1: a guest.
- 45:11Speaker 3: But are you?
- 45:12Speaker 1: Are you single? And the only reason why I'm saying
- 45:15Speaker 1: this is, ladies, I'm dating it, Ladies. I gotta say this. Okay,
- 45:19Speaker 1: I have to say this. This man cooks for you.
- 45:22Speaker 1: It's the end.
- 45:24Speaker 3: Why is it?
- 45:25Speaker 1: What's sweetness? Is it the potato that has this a
- 45:27Speaker 1: sweet kick to it?
- 45:28Speaker 2: You got a little sweet kick.
- 45:30Speaker 3: It's probably the sour.
- 45:31Speaker 2: It's the vegans sour queer.
- 45:33Speaker 1: Well, Jared, you're back there. I promise you this is
- 45:37Speaker 1: the best potato you'll ever have in your life. I
- 45:41Speaker 1: was nervous for you. Put in that concoction of pepper
- 45:44Speaker 1: that that.
- 45:45Speaker 2: Is your average baked potato.
- 45:48Speaker 3: But did that's a that's a that's a dice, slice
- 45:52Speaker 3: and dice mm mm.
- 45:55Speaker 1: This when's best potato by far. This can win award competition.
- 46:03Speaker 2: I'm gonna have to come back.
- 46:04Speaker 1: Are you gonna try it? You're gonna try it? Have
- 46:06Speaker 1: you had this before?
- 46:07Speaker 2: I got to have a little bit.
- 46:08Speaker 1: Let me just tell you something. I'll be honest, the
- 46:11Speaker 1: best potato I've ever had in my life. And I
- 46:14Speaker 1: am stealing this recipe for life.
- 46:16Speaker 2: Guys.
- 46:16Speaker 1: It's vegan sour cream.
- 46:18Speaker 3: I be I'll be honest with you, peppers, I'll be
- 46:21Speaker 3: honest with you. I pulled an audible because I know
- 46:24Speaker 3: that we you know, we got time constraints, so I
- 46:29Speaker 3: had to be you know, I had to pull audible.
- 46:32Speaker 3: What an audible? I had to pull an audible. I
- 46:34Speaker 3: had to had to pull up. I had to call
- 46:37Speaker 3: a play.
- 46:38Speaker 1: This is the best play of my life.
- 46:41Speaker 3: Your your your your stove. The electric stove in the
- 46:47Speaker 3: other room was not being.
- 46:50Speaker 1: So I had to how long did you bake those
- 46:52Speaker 1: potatoes for?
- 46:55Speaker 3: I did the best I could what I had over there,
- 46:58Speaker 3: and it just stove over there.
- 46:59Speaker 1: All I know own is that I texted. I told
- 47:02Speaker 1: him this. I texted the booker while I was driving.
- 47:05Speaker 1: I was like, I can't believe we forgot some ingredients.
- 47:07Speaker 1: I'm personally driving to get him, and I texted her
- 47:09Speaker 1: I said, whoever is dating this man is eating good.
- 47:14Speaker 1: And then I tried the potato and this is amazing.
- 47:22Speaker 1: This was amazing because I would have never thought to
- 47:23Speaker 1: mix cheese with the peppers the way you did. You
- 47:33Speaker 1: may have to release a cookbook. There's something to go
- 47:36Speaker 1: out with the albums. You think I'm playing. Is it
- 47:41Speaker 1: not delicious?
- 47:42Speaker 2: Okay, hell delicious?
- 47:44Speaker 4: Right?
- 47:44Speaker 1: Yeah, it's something different, right, yeah, this is the best
- 47:48Speaker 1: it is, right? Have you made this at home before?
- 47:52Speaker 1: It tastes good right in my tripping.
- 47:56Speaker 3: Now I'm trying to figure out that's maybe No, I didn't.
- 48:01Speaker 3: I know, I didn't use his plate to cut ginger. Oh,
- 48:04Speaker 3: I know what it is.
- 48:07Speaker 2: I used the mints, garlic paste and the ginger paste.
- 48:16Speaker 2: That's where you get to kick the sweet kick.
- 48:19Speaker 1: Where in the when you were doing the onion.
- 48:21Speaker 3: When I marinated the vegetables. So this is a good
- 48:26Speaker 3: like marinate. It's like kind of like my go to
- 48:28Speaker 3: so I married, I marinated the vestments and then we
- 48:31Speaker 3: topped it with, you know, with the topics.
- 48:34Speaker 1: The bigger I was thinking it was could have it
- 48:36Speaker 1: could have been that you chose red potatoes.
- 48:38Speaker 3: Mm hmm.
- 48:39Speaker 2: That's what it did.
- 48:40Speaker 1: That's what it is. It is bomb right, that was
- 48:43Speaker 1: the keys.
- 48:43Speaker 3: You can't use too much though, you know, ginger can
- 48:47Speaker 3: be overbearing, you know, garlic ginger.
- 48:50Speaker 1: Look at the way he's eating at best best, one
- 48:53Speaker 1: of the best dishes on the show. I'm glad that
- 48:56Speaker 1: you were passionate.
- 48:57Speaker 2: Jallapeno in there. You know what I mean.
- 49:00Speaker 1: And you know what this also says about you, is
- 49:01Speaker 1: that anything that you put your hands to or touch,
- 49:05Speaker 1: it seems like you go one hundred percent. Because even
- 49:07Speaker 1: you could have we gave you. I try to give
- 49:09Speaker 1: you a lot of Hey, you don't have to do
- 49:11Speaker 1: all this, but I noticed you. We're like, no, if
- 49:13Speaker 1: I'm gonna do it, I'm gonna do it.
- 49:15Speaker 2: No, we gotta do it right. We gotta do it right.
- 49:16Speaker 2: You gotta do it right. Yes.
- 49:18Speaker 1: And I had to listen to Bulletproof the whole time
- 49:21Speaker 1: I was shopping for you.
- 49:23Speaker 2: Oh, this is amazing.
- 49:25Speaker 1: I like this, This is amazing. Right, Yeah, it sucks
- 49:28Speaker 1: because oh because I always try to share some with
- 49:31Speaker 1: Jared Dark camera guy.

- 49:36Speaker 3: Hands on, Beth, the slice baked potato.
- 49:38Speaker 2: This was just.
- 49:40Speaker 1: Whom you ever streuch it too. Yeah, it's the best potato.
- 49:46Speaker 1: Everything else was great. The potato is the number one
- 49:49Speaker 1: best potato and the entire three seasons of Eating Wall Broke. Wow, Yeah,

- 50:11Speaker 1: see if I covered everything or if I'm missing anything.
- 50:19Speaker 1: Once the cameras go down, I'm like wolfing all this
- 50:21Speaker 1: stuff down. Can you sing us too? Oh? And he
- 50:27Speaker 1: was singing like a little eating while broke song earlier too,
- 50:31Speaker 1: you were harmonizing us. You could close out with a song. Look,
- 50:35Speaker 1: he's trying to swallow.
- 50:36Speaker 3: I'm sorry you can't.
