- 0:00Speaker 1: The Mark Simone show. Well, let's talk to the great
- 0:07Speaker 1: Steve Forbes, chairman of Forbes Media, author of some great books.
- 0:11Speaker 1: You should get his latest book, Inflation. He'll explain it.
- 0:14Speaker 1: A lot of stuff to but of course you should
- 0:17Speaker 1: be reading Forbes every day. Steve Forbes, how you doing well?
- 0:22Speaker 2: I'm personally doing fine. I stayed up to watch a
- 0:27Speaker 2: certain soccer game last night. I'll just leave it at that,
- 0:30Speaker 2: and watched before that the Yankees lose to Boston. So
- 0:36Speaker 2: not a good way to begin Friday. But hopefully things
- 0:40Speaker 2: will get better. The Mets now are getting a new
- 0:42Speaker 2: manager after a miserable season, so things are astirring.
- 0:47Speaker 1: I know, but you had the Knicks. That's enough for
- 0:49Speaker 1: one year. What more could you ask for?
- 0:53Speaker 2: Well, the Knicks just your what your appetite? They performed
- 0:56Speaker 2: the miracle of one of the great miracles in the
- 0:58Speaker 2: whole history of sports. You figure, well, let's have some more.
- 1:02Speaker 1: Well that's the problem. We get greedy, That's that's the problem.
- 1:06Speaker 2: Hay, No, no, no, we get excited. If the Knicks
- 1:10Speaker 2: can do it, even the Mets might do it someday.
- 1:14Speaker 1: Well that's a good point. If the Knicks can do it,
- 1:15Speaker 1: anybody can do it. Hey, I'm looking at the price
- 1:18Speaker 1: of oil right now, sixty nine dollars a barrel. That's
- 1:20Speaker 1: pretty amazing, isn't it. That's that's almost back to pre war. Yeah.
- 1:26Speaker 2: I think the when when the war began in February,
- 1:30Speaker 2: you obviously had the huge spike, but what was interesting
- 1:33Speaker 2: was the futures markets going months out, six months, twelve
- 1:37Speaker 2: months out. He had oil back in the seventies. So
- 1:41Speaker 2: I think most people figured one way or the other. However,
- 1:45Speaker 2: this thing is resolved. When the markets reached some as
- 1:47Speaker 2: semblance of normalcy, prices were going to come down, and
- 1:52Speaker 2: the US has still doing all it can to ramp
- 1:55Speaker 2: up production. And I think what's happening in the Strait
- 1:58Speaker 2: of Hormuz, you're going to see in the next few years.
- 2:01Speaker 2: It's happening already the building of pipelines. So the dependence
- 2:07Speaker 2: of those countries on the Strait of Hermos is going
- 2:09Speaker 2: to decline dramatically. So the markets look to the future,
- 2:13Speaker 2: and so we're going to be able to worry about
- 2:16Speaker 2: other things than the price of gasoline.
- 2:18Speaker 1: Yeah, you're not a big fan of the you know,
- 2:21Speaker 1: going after Iran, but nobody's a big.
- 2:25Speaker 2: Far I thought, if you're going to go after it,
- 2:27Speaker 2: you do it and not pause and cease fire and
- 2:29Speaker 2: negotiating all that kind of stuff. They're stringing us along.
- 2:33Speaker 2: And I've seen this movie before and we know what
- 2:37Speaker 2: they've been for forty seven years. So you either do
- 2:39Speaker 2: it or you don't. Yeah, I understand, of course you're right.
- 2:43Speaker 2: But if you could stay in this holding pattern through
- 2:45Speaker 2: the next few months, why not gives us a chance
- 2:47Speaker 2: to restock, rearm and pick more targets. It's not a
- 2:52Speaker 2: bad thing to get through the summer with this.
- 2:53Speaker 1: Is it.
- 2:55Speaker 2: Well, he'll find a way to get through it, the president.
- 2:58Speaker 2: But Iran, and this now feels incredibly the world they
- 3:03Speaker 2: live in that they've won this war. Yeah, they took
- 3:05Speaker 2: a huge beating militarily. Our military performed superbly, as did
- 3:10Speaker 2: the Israeli military, but they're still standing that regime and
- 3:14Speaker 2: they figure that they've won strategically, that they've established deep
- 3:18Speaker 2: facto control over the Strait and so we're gonna have
- 3:22Speaker 2: trouble with them down the road, and it's going to
- 3:26Speaker 2: be an irritant out there, a big bad one. And
- 3:28Speaker 2: by the way, to show the world that we're not
- 3:32Speaker 2: taking a powder on the world. I wish President Trump
- 3:35Speaker 2: would it's on his desk, would approve the fourteen billion
- 3:39Speaker 2: dollar arm sales to Taiwan, which Congress approved last January,
- 3:44Speaker 2: just to show the world where where we're a player
- 3:47Speaker 2: and we're not going to let the bad guys run around.
- 3:49Speaker 1: Yeah, that's a very good point. Hey, Momdani and all
- 3:53Speaker 1: these crazy young socialists. You know, well he just stacked
- 3:56Speaker 1: the rent board and now they passed this rent freeze.
- 3:59Speaker 1: And why don't they ever realize that, you know, the smart,
- 4:02Speaker 1: educated young politicians, Well don't they realize all this stuff
- 4:06Speaker 1: they're doing has been tried a billion times, always fails.
- 4:08Speaker 1: All this stuff they're doing for housing will create less housing.
- 4:13Speaker 1: Why don't they ever see that?
- 4:16Speaker 2: Well, part part of it is one they're dissatisfied and
- 4:22Speaker 2: so they look for saviors of the wrong kind. But
- 4:26Speaker 2: also there's not been effective opposition, and I think the
- 4:31Speaker 2: people with resources in the city are realizing it's not
- 4:35Speaker 2: just enough to say, oh, well, back another candidate. You've
- 4:38Speaker 2: got to have people out there making the case, doing
- 4:41Speaker 2: what the left is done, organizing, go door to door.
- 4:44Speaker 2: I mean, you know, New York City, it's amazing. Mondami's
- 4:48Speaker 2: wants to wreck a few private landlords left New York.
- 4:52Speaker 2: As you known, you've made the point is the biggest
- 4:54Speaker 2: slum lord around. You don't want to be in a
- 4:56Speaker 2: city owned apartment. Try getting you know, with the rats
- 5:00Speaker 2: and everything else running around, not talying about the politician,
- 5:03Speaker 2: trying about the real rodents in those buildings, the lack
- 5:07Speaker 2: of maintenance, and so the socialism is not working even now,
- 5:12Speaker 2: and we've got to highlight that and this anti semitism
- 5:17Speaker 2: that goes unanswered. I mean that coffee shop. That guy
- 5:21Speaker 2: should be prosecuted. You know, if you're open, if you
- 5:24Speaker 2: have a facility for the public, you're supposed to serve
- 5:28Speaker 2: the public.
- 5:29Speaker 1: Period.
- 5:30Speaker 2: You don't want to serve the public shut down. But
- 5:33Speaker 2: he should be prosecuted for not serving that congressman who
- 5:37Speaker 2: now is going to be looking for work sadly. And
- 5:40Speaker 2: I didn't like his politics, but he didn't like the
- 5:42Speaker 2: reason he lost.
- 5:45Speaker 1: Hey, you bring up a good point. Democrats and these
- 5:48Speaker 1: crazies that won in the primaries, incredible ground game. They
- 5:52Speaker 1: had amazing talent on the ground, knocking on doors, getting
- 5:55Speaker 1: voters to the pulse. The problem with the Republican Party
- 5:58Speaker 1: in NEUK is not big enough. They don't have the
- 6:00Speaker 1: kind of resources. And why is that? Is it because
- 6:02Speaker 1: the National RNC just doesn't do anything. They're not paying
- 6:05Speaker 1: attention to it?
- 6:06Speaker 2: Yeah? Yeah, part of it is it's sort of a
- 6:08Speaker 2: self defeating circle. You feel you've got other more promising
- 6:12Speaker 2: races around the country, So why poor resources in here?
- 6:16Speaker 2: But the Democrats too, there are still some sensible ones
- 6:20Speaker 2: left have got to get organized. You know, I'll be
- 6:23Speaker 2: blunt about it. What you see organized here with these
- 6:26Speaker 2: socialists we haven't seen on the far left since the
- 6:30Speaker 2: communist days of the forties, early fifties, late thirties, where
- 6:33Speaker 2: they were extremely well organized. You know, Ronald Reagan headed
- 6:36Speaker 2: the Actors Guild in Hollywood and one of his big
- 6:40Speaker 2: task was fighting the attempt to take over by the communists.
- 6:43Speaker 2: They're taking over in those days, the unions and other institutions.
- 6:48Speaker 2: We beat them back. We're going to have to do
- 6:49Speaker 2: the same thing with this version today.
- 6:52Speaker 1: Wow. So the fact that they were so successful and
- 6:56Speaker 1: they got all these left wing socialist kooks in there
- 7:00Speaker 1: in short term game. But in the long term, isn't
- 7:02Speaker 1: that going to bring down the Democrats?
- 7:05Speaker 2: Yes, because the Democrats are going to be in a
- 7:09Speaker 2: tough position because even though most Democrats don't buy into
- 7:13Speaker 2: this lunacy we saw in the primary here in New York,
- 7:16Speaker 2: but the activists control the party. And so if you're
- 7:22Speaker 2: going to run in twenty twenty eight, are you going
- 7:25Speaker 2: to come out in favor of Israel other than a mumble,
- 7:30Speaker 2: maybe not even a mumble. Are you going to come
- 7:32Speaker 2: out against a national version of a national wealth tax?
- 7:36Speaker 2: You know, these extremists being well organized, knowing that they
- 7:40Speaker 2: can take a primary where no one votes, but the
- 7:43Speaker 2: activists they can take you down. So they're going to
- 7:46Speaker 2: be setting the tone of the party and that's not
- 7:48Speaker 2: going to be a winning issue. So for Republicans get
- 7:52Speaker 2: their act together, we should win in twenty twenty eight.
- 7:55Speaker 2: And you know, you see Newsom now squirming out in
- 7:59Speaker 2: California with this wealth tax on the ballot, which looks
- 8:03Speaker 2: like it might pass. He tried to find ways to
- 8:05Speaker 2: try to get it off the ballot by bribing the
- 8:08Speaker 2: union thing, I'll give you money if you take it off.
- 8:11Speaker 2: So this stuff doesn't This stuff is not going to
- 8:15Speaker 2: go well nationally, and the Republicans have to come up
- 8:18Speaker 2: with their own positive agenda, including health care, and we
- 8:23Speaker 2: can beat these guys in twenty twenty eight resoundingly.
- 8:26Speaker 1: Hey, Steve Forbes, we only go about thirty seconds left.
- 8:28Speaker 1: Kevin Walsh off to a good start at the FED.
- 8:31Speaker 2: The answer, The answer is yes, he's attacking this crazy
- 8:34Speaker 2: idea that prosperity caused inflation. I think he's next going
- 8:38Speaker 2: after and by bringing an outside task forces, which is
- 8:43Speaker 2: usually a political punt. In this case, he's using outside people,
- 8:47Speaker 2: recognize experts to bring about changes and attack the institution.
- 8:52Speaker 2: The institution, you can't do it from within, but when
- 8:54Speaker 2: you have these outside task forces, they can't attack their credibility.
- 8:59Speaker 2: And so he's going to bring about positive changes. Finally
- 9:02Speaker 2: he knows how to do it, which is good. We
- 9:05Speaker 2: seek for us and for the world. Steve Forbes brilliant
- 9:07Speaker 2: as always. Everybody should be reading the Forbes. Steve is
- 9:10Speaker 2: the chairman of Forbes Media. Forbes of course online you

- 9:16Speaker 2: You learn a lot from that book. It's a great book.
