  Speaker 1: talk about something that's a little deeper. Something that's a

  Speaker 1: little bit more personal. And something that really, really bothers me.

  Speaker 1: You know, when you're trying to build something from nothing,

  Speaker 1: when you're chasing a dream, when you're putting your heart
• 0:37
  Speaker 1: and soul into something, one of the hardest things you
• 0:41
  Speaker 1: can deal with isn't failure. It's feeling like nobody believes
• 0:46
  Speaker 1: in you. And I've got to be honest with you.

  Speaker 1: I have had times when I've wondered, does anybody really
• 0:53
  Speaker 1: believe in what I'm doing? Does anybody care? Does anybody
• 0:57
  Speaker 1: really think I can actually make this work? And sometimes
• 1:02
  Speaker 1: the answer feels like no. But you know what? I
• 1:05
  Speaker 1: keep going. And that is exactly what I want to
• 1:09
  Speaker 1: talk about today. Not the glamorous side of chasing a dream.

  Speaker 1: Not the bullshit you see on social media where everybody
• 1:16
  Speaker 1: makes success look easy. I'm talking about the nights when
• 1:19
  Speaker 1: you're sitting there by yourself wondering if you've wasted your time.

  Speaker 1: I'm talking about putting your heart into something and getting
• 1:26
  Speaker 1: almost nothing back. I'm talking about looking at your numbers
• 1:30
  Speaker 1: and thinking, is anybody even listening? I'm talking about telling
• 1:37
  Speaker 1: people about your podcast and getting that look. Yeah, you
• 1:40
  Speaker 1: know that look. That look that says, oh, that's nice.
• 1:44
  Speaker 1: But you can tell they don't really believe in it.
• 1:47
  Speaker 1: And maybe they don't say anything negative. Maybe they don't
• 1:51
  Speaker 1: tell you to quit. But they don't encourage you either.
• 1:55
  Speaker 1: And sometimes silence hurts people. more than criticism. Because at
• 2:01
  Speaker 1: least when somebody criticizes you, they're paying attention. But when
• 2:06
  Speaker 1: nobody says anything, when nobody shares your work, when nobody
• 2:12
  Speaker 1: asks how it's going, when nobody says, hey Mike, I
• 2:16
  Speaker 1: listened to your latest podcast, that can hurt. Especially when
• 2:21
  Speaker 1: you care so damn much. But here's what I've learned.

  Speaker 1: You can't build your dream based on somebody else's approval.
• 2:32
  Speaker 1: Because if you need everybody to believe in you before
• 2:35
  Speaker 1: you believe in yourself, you're probably going to quit. And
• 2:39
  Speaker 1: I refuse to quit. I refuse. Because I've come so
• 2:45
  Speaker 1: far already. I've already put so much of myself into this.
• 2:49
  Speaker 1: And more importantly, I found something that gives me a voice.
• 2:54
  Speaker 1: A podcast. gives me a place to say what I
• 2:59
  Speaker 1: want to say. I'm going to talk to you about
• 3:02
  Speaker 1: real life and struggles and loneliness and money. I'm going
• 3:05
  Speaker 1: to talk to you about mental health, relationships, being a father,
• 3:08
  Speaker 1: getting older. I'm going to talk to you about dreams
• 3:11
  Speaker 1: and failures. I'm going to talk to you about life.
• 3:14
  Speaker 1: And I am not going to pretend that everything is
• 3:16
  Speaker 1: perfect because it is not. My life is not perfect.

  Speaker 1: Your life probably isn't perfect either. And that is exactly
• 3:25
  Speaker 1: why I created Real Talk with Mike D. Because I
• 3:31
  Speaker 1: am not trying to pretend. I'm trying to be real.

  Speaker 1: Maybe that's why this means so much to me. Because
• 3:38
  Speaker 1: this isn't just a podcast. It's something I built. Something
• 3:43
  Speaker 1: I started. Something I believed in enough to say, I'm
• 3:47
  Speaker 1: going to do this. And when nobody was standing behind
• 3:52
  Speaker 1: me saying, Go for it, Mike. I had to say it.

  Speaker 1: To myself. Go for it Mike. Keep going Mike. Don't

  Speaker 1: quit Mike. You can do this. Even when nobody else
• 4:05
  Speaker 1: said it. I had to say it to myself. And
• 4:10
  Speaker 1: maybe that's what growing up really teaches you. Sometimes you
• 4:14
  Speaker 1: have to become your own support system. Sometimes you don't
• 4:19
  Speaker 1: have your own cheerleader. Sometimes you have to wipe your
• 4:23
  Speaker 1: own tears. Get back up and say alright. Let's Do
• 4:26
  Speaker 1: this again. I've had moments where I've questioned whether this
• 4:32
  Speaker 1: podcast is going anywhere. I'm not going to lie. I've
• 4:36
  Speaker 1: wondered if I'm talking into a microphone for no damn reason.
• 4:41
  Speaker 1: I've wondered if I'm wasting my time. I've wondered if
• 4:45
  Speaker 1: people think I'm crazy for chasing this. But, then something happens.

  Speaker 1: I record another episode, and I remember... This is what
• 4:56
  Speaker 1: I love doing. I love talking. I love telling stories.
• 4:59
  Speaker 1: I love making people laugh. I love being honest. I
• 5:03
  Speaker 1: love knowing that maybe, maybe, somewhere out there, somebody is
• 5:09
  Speaker 1: listening who needed to hear exactly what I said. And
• 5:15
  Speaker 1: that's enough to make me hit record again. That's enough
• 5:19
  Speaker 1: to keep me moving. Because maybe the audience isn't where
• 5:22
  Speaker 1: I want it to be yet. And that's an important word, yet.
• 5:28
  Speaker 1: But ladies and gentlemen, I will tell you something. My
• 5:32
  Speaker 1: podcast has grown more than I could have ever imagined
• 5:37
  Speaker 1: over the past month. People all across the United States
• 5:42
  Speaker 1: are listening to me. People in other countries are listening
• 5:46
  Speaker 1: to me. I am on basically every major podcast platform
• 5:53
  Speaker 1: there is. And that alone is something I could never,
• 5:59
  Speaker 1: ever have imagined. But with that being said, I'm not
• 6:06
  Speaker 1: where I want to be yet. The podcast isn't where
• 6:12
  Speaker 1: I want it to be yet. The numbers aren't where
• 6:15
  Speaker 1: I want it to be yet. Because I have high hopes.

  Speaker 1: I have big dreams. And I will not settle until
• 6:27
  Speaker 1: I reach those goals. You know, the recognition isn't where
• 6:34
  Speaker 1: I want it to be yet. But that doesn't mean
• 6:37
  Speaker 1: it won't happen. It just means I'm still building. And
• 6:42
  Speaker 1: I'm willing to build brick by brick, episode by episode,
• 6:47
  Speaker 1: listener by listener, day by day. I am willing to
• 6:52
  Speaker 1: put the work in. Because I know what happens when
• 6:55
  Speaker 1: you quit. Nothing. Absolutely nothing. At that point, you guarantee
• 7:02
  Speaker 1: that your dream will never happen. But if you keep going,
• 7:06
  Speaker 1: there's at least a chance. There's a possibility. There's a
• 7:10
  Speaker 1: door that could open. There's a person who could hear you.

  Speaker 1: There's an opportunity that could come along. And that's why
• 7:19
  Speaker 1: I'm staying in the fight. Maybe nobody believed in me
• 7:25
  Speaker 1: when I started. Maybe some people still don't and that's okay.

  Speaker 1: I'm not angry about it. It's fuel for my fire.

  Speaker 1: I'm not going to sit around waiting for somebody to
• 7:37
  Speaker 1: validate me. I'm going to keep doing the work because
• 7:40
  Speaker 1: one day I want to look back. I want to
• 7:45
  Speaker 1: look back at these early episodes and I want to
• 7:48
  Speaker 1: remember the days when I had almost no audience. I
• 7:51
  Speaker 1: want to remember the days when I questioned myself. I
• 7:56
  Speaker 1: want to remember the days when I thought, is this
• 7:59
  Speaker 1: really going to work? And I want to be able
• 8:02
  Speaker 1: to say, yep, I kept going. That's the story I want.

  Speaker 1: Not that everything came easy. Not that everybody supported me.

  Speaker 1: Not that I had all the answers. But that I
• 8:18
  Speaker 1: kept showing up when nobody cared. I showed up when
• 8:22
  Speaker 1: nobody believed. or disappointing. I even showed up when I
• 8:30
  Speaker 1: doubted myself. I showed up when I was tired. I
• 8:33
  Speaker 1: showed up when I wanted to say, fuck it, I'm done.
• 8:37
  Speaker 1: I showed up. That's the part people don't see. They
• 8:42
  Speaker 1: see the finished product. They don't see the struggle behind it.
• 8:46
  Speaker 1: They don't see the hard work, the hours, and the
• 8:50
  Speaker 1: energy that it takes to make a 10 or 15
• 8:54
  Speaker 1: minute episode. They don't see the doubt. They don't see
• 8:59
  Speaker 1: the frustration. They don't see the nights where you're sitting
• 9:02
  Speaker 1: there thinking about whether any of this matters. You know what?
• 9:06
  Speaker 1: I know because I live it. And maybe that's why
• 9:10
  Speaker 1: I'm proud of myself. Not because I made it. Because
• 9:15
  Speaker 1: I haven't. I'm still climbing and I'm a hell of
• 9:19
  Speaker 1: a lot further than I was when I first started.

  Speaker 1: I'm still hustling. You know why? Because I want the dream.
• 9:28
  Speaker 1: I want to be bigger and better. And I want
• 9:35
  Speaker 1: to say, you didn't quit. You did it. You achieved
• 9:41
  Speaker 1: something that nobody thought was possible. You did it. You
• 9:47
  Speaker 1: had the dream. You executed that dream. Now you are
• 9:51
  Speaker 1: living the dream. When every person Doubted you? I refuse.

  Speaker 1: to give up and ladies and gentlemen that alone is
• 10:04
  Speaker 1: a victory anybody listening right now who's chasing something and
• 10:10
  Speaker 1: you feel like nobody believes in you I get it

  Speaker 1: I understand 100% I really do And I'm not going
• 10:18
  Speaker 1: to give you the same bullshit and tell you that
• 10:20
  Speaker 1: it's always going to be easy because it's not. There's
• 10:23
  Speaker 1: going to be days when you question yourself. There's going
• 10:25
  Speaker 1: to be people who don't understand your dream. And there
• 10:29
  Speaker 1: are definitely going to be people who don't support you.
• 10:34
  Speaker 1: There are going to be people who think you're wasting
• 10:37
  Speaker 1: your time. Let them think it. Who cares? You don't
• 10:44
  Speaker 1: have to convince everybody. You just have to keep moving
• 10:47
  Speaker 1: because sometimes the person who believes in you has to
• 10:52
  Speaker 1: be you. And if that's all you've got right now,
• 10:57
  Speaker 1: that's enough. Start there. Believe in yourself. Work your ass off.

  Speaker 1: That's exactly what I'm doing. I'm hustling. I'm learning. I'm failing.

  Speaker 1: I'm improving. I'm getting back up. And most importantly, I'm

  Speaker 1: keeping this podcast alive. Because I believe there's something here.

  Speaker 1: I believe Real Talk with Mike D can become something.

  Speaker 1: I believe that it's already becoming something. And I'm willing
