- 0:00Speaker 1: This now past flown off Seattle.
- 0:03Speaker 2: Welcome to Seattle Kraken Hockey on the Global Credit Union
- 0:07Speaker 2: Krakennaudio Network, Brought to you by Coor's Life, Your Western Washington,
- 0:12Speaker 2: Toyota Dealers, Virginia Mason, Franciscan Health, Muckleshoot Casino Resort, and
- 0:17Speaker 2: by Luna and Symetra.
- 0:20Speaker 3: Seattle return home on Sunday to take on the Buffalo Sabers,
- 0:24Speaker 3: looking to rebound from a top loss in Utah on Friday.
- 0:28Speaker 3: Despite some good chances early, it was the Sabers who
- 0:31Speaker 3: took a one nothing lead after the first and extended their.
- 0:34Speaker 1: Advantage to nothing midway through two.
- 0:37Speaker 3: Chandler Stevenson lit the lamp on the power play, giving
- 0:40Speaker 3: the Kraken some life moments later. However, an empty goal
- 0:44Speaker 3: in the final minutes of the third sealed the krakens
- 0:47Speaker 3: fate three to one. Tonight, in the final home game
- 0:50Speaker 3: before the holiday breaks, Seattle welcomes in the cream of
- 0:53Speaker 3: the NHL crop in the Colorado Avalanche, who have dropped
- 0:57Speaker 3: just two games all season in regulation. Good evening, ladies
- 1:02Speaker 3: and gentlemen, Happy holidays. Welcome inside of Climate Pledgerina alongside
- 1:07Speaker 3: al Kaniski, I am ever it fits you. This is
- 1:09Speaker 3: Seattle Crack and Hockey on the Global Credit Union Cracking
- 1:12Speaker 3: Audio Network. You are listening to the pregame show served
- 1:15Speaker 3: up by Frost Brew Corse Late Choose Chill.
- 1:17Speaker 1: A three to one loss for.
- 1:19Speaker 3: Seattle at home on Sunday against the Buffalo Sabers. The
- 1:23Speaker 3: Cracking getting their power play going once again one for
- 1:26Speaker 3: four on the night or the Crack on the power
- 1:28Speaker 3: play was not enough for Seattle, who still have struggled.
- 1:32Speaker 1: To find the offense.
- 1:33Speaker 3: I guess a saving Grayson that game partner Kraken out
- 1:36Speaker 3: shooting Buffalo by.
- 1:37Speaker 1: A twenty four to twenty three margin.
- 1:39Speaker 3: Now four power play goals or five power play goals
- 1:42Speaker 3: in their last four games, however, not enough for Seattle.
- 1:44Speaker 4: Yeah, the bottom line is you lost the game, but
- 1:46Speaker 4: that the Cracking were in it again. It was a
- 1:48Speaker 4: tight game. They were two for two on their penalty killed.
- 1:50Speaker 4: They did get that power play goal as you mentioned,
- 1:52Speaker 4: so special teams were checkmark. As far as I'm concerned,
- 1:56Speaker 4: it was the even strength that hurt the crackend. The
- 1:58Speaker 4: other night in that loss, Channel Stevens had an excellent
- 2:01Speaker 4: game and Seattle actually had eleven high danger chances, they
- 2:05Speaker 4: were just not able to finish them at even strength,
- 2:07Speaker 4: and that was the difference.
- 2:08Speaker 3: You'll listen to a number of players after that game
- 2:11Speaker 3: against Buffalo and overall the last handful of games, cracking
- 2:14Speaker 3: now one seven and one in their last nine, you
- 2:17Speaker 3: can really sense the frustration that this team is so close.
- 2:20Speaker 3: They're not getting blown out every night there every The
- 2:24Speaker 3: effort is there, the identity is there, but the results
- 2:28Speaker 3: have not matched that effort. And going up against a
- 2:31Speaker 3: team here tonight in the Colorado Avalanche, you're going to
- 2:33Speaker 3: need every bit of that effort here again, you absolutely are.
- 2:36Speaker 4: And if we've heard Lame Lambert talk about playing a
- 2:38Speaker 4: perfect game, and I'm okay with striving for that perfect game,
- 2:41Speaker 4: because you know you're gonna have to play as close
- 2:43Speaker 4: to a perfect game you can here to give yourself
- 2:45Speaker 4: a shot at winning.
- 2:46Speaker 5: But it's gonna start at your own end.
- 2:48Speaker 4: You've got to have the defensive structure that he is
- 2:51Speaker 4: inserted into this into this team.
- 2:52Speaker 5: You've got to have good goaltending. You've got to have
- 2:54Speaker 5: good putt clears.
- 2:55Speaker 4: You start to limiting those odd man rushes for Colorado,
- 2:58Speaker 4: you limit their goals against it. If you can keep
- 3:00Speaker 4: this game to three or less goals against, it puts
- 3:03Speaker 4: you in a position to win it.
- 3:04Speaker 1: And on the other side of the red line.
- 3:06Speaker 3: Speaking of the Colorado Avalanche, they are on a historic
- 3:10Speaker 3: pace twenty three to two and seven fifty three points,
- 3:13Speaker 3: first in the NHL overall, Nathan McKinnon first to fifty
- 3:18Speaker 3: fifty five points in just thirty two games.
- 3:21Speaker 5: The Avs lead the.
- 3:22Speaker 3: NHL in just about every statistical category. The only area
- 3:26Speaker 3: where they have struggled this season has been on the
- 3:29Speaker 3: power play.
- 3:29Speaker 1: They are twenty eighth in the NHL on.
- 3:32Speaker 3: The power play, but first and goals for first, and
- 3:35Speaker 3: goals against first in PK. This is a team that
- 3:37Speaker 3: so far this season has allowed four or more goals
- 3:41Speaker 3: just eight times all year.
- 3:42Speaker 5: Yeah, and only that too. But they're high at plus minus.
- 3:45Speaker 4: Nathan McKinnon himself as a plus forty, And you think, well,
- 3:47Speaker 4: you know, does that mean his defensive game is fantastic
- 3:51Speaker 4: in addition to his offensive game. No, what it could
- 3:53Speaker 4: mean he's out there for goals against, but he's out
- 3:56Speaker 4: there for a.
- 3:56Speaker 5: Lot more goals for. And I think that's moore of
- 3:59Speaker 5: the case.
- 4:00Speaker 3: If you're a player that's got twenty six and twenty
- 4:02Speaker 3: nine through thirty two games. You're gonna eat a couple
- 4:05Speaker 3: of goals, but you know what you're good far outweighs
- 4:09Speaker 3: you're bad.

- 7:34Speaker 6: for offense Chandler Stevenson getting warmer, Plus we'll catch up
- 7:38Speaker 6: with Brandon Montur Jason Botterol as well with some injury updates.
- 7:42Speaker 6: And but look at the Avalanche and what's gearing them
- 7:45Speaker 6: to the best record in the NHL right now and
- 7:48Speaker 6: how to the Kraken find a way to slow them down.
- 7:52Speaker 6: The Kraken coming in twelve, twelve and six in this
- 7:55Speaker 6: two game homestand finale at thirty points or five back
- 7:58Speaker 6: of the cut line in the West, Colorado owning top
- 8:01Speaker 6: record in the entire NHL twenty three two and seven
- 8:05Speaker 6: fifty three points on the year, they're by the way
- 8:08Speaker 6: four zero to one in the last five games. Looking
- 8:11Speaker 6: back to Sunday of Buffalo, first of two straight games
- 8:15Speaker 6: on the road, the Kraken facing a Sabers team where
- 8:18Speaker 6: matters favor in the cracking as far as their home
- 8:21Speaker 6: record against the Sabers, But the tough part in this
- 8:24Speaker 6: one a team battling illness, plus also Jayden Schwartz, Jared
- 8:27Speaker 6: McCann and Bertley Catton out of the lineup due to injuries,
- 8:31Speaker 6: and the Kraken found themselves down to nothing and looking
- 8:34Speaker 6: for anything offensively. And finally, the power play had to
- 8:39Speaker 6: say in the matter.
- 8:40Speaker 5: Right here, here's.
- 8:41Speaker 3: Vince Dunn left side cracking with the face off. Steven
- 8:45Speaker 3: said left circle shots. Taylor Stevens said on the power
- 8:56Speaker 3: play has put the cracket.
- 8:58Speaker 5: On the board.
- 8:59Speaker 1: They trim that deficit in half two one seven thirty
- 9:03Speaker 1: six to play.
- 9:04Speaker 5: In the second well Matty Pinier's with a faced off win.
- 9:07Speaker 4: Jordaniblei taps it back defense to the point done down
- 9:10Speaker 4: to Stevenson with a se ice shot from the left side,
- 9:14Speaker 4: short side on Alex Lyon two to one.
- 9:18Speaker 6: Perhaps an indication special teams are finding daylight. That Stevenson
- 9:22Speaker 6: goal gave him points now in five straight games, but
- 9:26Speaker 6: it was the only source of offense for the entire day.
- 9:28Speaker 6: On the Kranken side they filled three to one to
- 9:30Speaker 6: Buffalo is Alex Lyon at twenty three saves in that
- 9:33Speaker 6: opposite side, Joey to coord tofending for him despite his
- 9:36Speaker 6: efforts with twenty saves on twenty two shots. But about
- 9:39Speaker 6: the special teams the power play, they now scored a
- 9:42Speaker 6: goal by the way for the fourth time last six games,
- 9:45Speaker 6: going seven of twenty two in that span, and the
- 9:47Speaker 6: penalty kill for good measure, killing off both sabers power
- 9:51Speaker 6: play chances, and they have now killed off ten of
- 9:54Speaker 6: the last twelve opposition opportunities. But of course the offense
- 9:58Speaker 6: we talked about this still searching for solutions. It was
- 10:02Speaker 6: eight time this year the Kracking were held to a
- 10:04Speaker 6: goal or less and now they're trying to break out
- 10:06Speaker 6: of a slide of just one win in the past
- 10:09Speaker 6: nine games. So for this evening it's about locking in
- 10:12Speaker 6: for what's worked so far, because defensively the Krakens still
- 10:15Speaker 6: continue to be dialed in for the most part. They
- 10:17Speaker 6: moved up to twelfth in the NHL and fewer shots
- 10:20Speaker 6: allowed at twenty seven. The penalty kill, as we said,
- 10:23Speaker 6: they change their structure. Lane Lambert has more on that later.
- 10:27Speaker 6: Plus goaltending still very strong for best right now in
- 10:30Speaker 6: the NHL five on five team save percentage that's at
- 10:33Speaker 6: nine to two five. Of course, the penalty killed maybe
- 10:36Speaker 6: drops a bit overall for the entire season, but for
- 10:39Speaker 6: the Kracking, when you can stay out of the box,
- 10:41Speaker 6: goaltending certainly has been there a ton this year. For
- 10:45Speaker 6: as far as offense is concerned, the road remains tough.
- 10:49Speaker 6: So for the kracking, how much can they dig deep
- 10:51Speaker 6: right now? Two point four goals a game they're trying
- 10:54Speaker 6: to raise that is right now in the NHL's basement,
- 10:57Speaker 6: And when you factor in Jared mccannon Jayden Schwartz out
- 10:59Speaker 6: of the lineup, it is tough right now because the
- 11:01Speaker 6: two combining for thirteen goals mccam by the way, five
- 11:05Speaker 6: goals in eleven games, which accounts right now for those
- 11:08Speaker 6: two seventeen percent of the entire goal scoring in the
- 11:11Speaker 6: Craken lineup. So the reinforced message for the kracking is
- 11:15Speaker 6: where they're trying to hunt for offense in location. They'll
- 11:18Speaker 6: also potentially get a boost here with Mason Marshmen back
- 11:21Speaker 6: in practice the other day looking like he could begin
- 11:24Speaker 6: here for tonight. He had two goals against Utah in
- 11:26Speaker 6: his previous game and was out due to illness on Sunday.
- 11:30Speaker 6: That here brings us into our conversation with Brandon Montor
- 11:33Speaker 6: about how the Crack and react from Sunday's game, where
- 11:36Speaker 6: energy and emotion were certainly a part of the conversation
- 11:40Speaker 6: and in practice, Montors said that moving on begins with
- 11:44Speaker 6: the right mindset.
- 11:45Speaker 10: Yeah, I mean, I think again it's it's you know,
- 11:48Speaker 10: going the wrong way right now, it's you know, things
- 11:50Speaker 10: that we don't like. We're obviously losing games. I just
- 11:54Speaker 10: thinking in the nature of just for forgetting about the
- 11:56Speaker 10: past and working kind of towards you know, what we've
- 12:00Speaker 10: done well and try to get that as quick as
- 12:02Speaker 10: you can.
- 12:02Speaker 6: When you're a team trying to figure out the smooth
- 12:05Speaker 6: pat back offensively, how do you figure the small stuff
- 12:08Speaker 6: when it comes to you know, screens, rebounds, other things
- 12:10Speaker 6: that are making the biggest key and the biggest difference
- 12:13Speaker 6: as far as offense.
- 12:13Speaker 10: Yeah, I mean, I think we're a team that's not
- 12:15Speaker 10: gonna you know, score those you know, individual like nice,
- 12:19Speaker 10: nice goals. I think we obviously struggle to score goals,
- 12:22Speaker 10: so we got to get in those dirty areas. We're
- 12:24Speaker 10: not doing that nearly enough. And I think obviously this
- 12:27Speaker 10: this season we haven't scored enough, which you know, you
- 12:30Speaker 10: need that to score, you know, you need to to
- 12:31Speaker 10: win the games, and we struggle in that category. But
- 12:35Speaker 10: I think you know, we got players in this you
- 12:37Speaker 10: know locker room that can score goals, can shoot the puck,
- 12:39Speaker 10: and we just got to find ways to you know,
- 12:41Speaker 10: be more desperate, you know, neft front, like you said,
- 12:45Speaker 10: getting screens, getting dirty goals. I think, you know, we
- 12:48Speaker 10: might have a lot of you know, I'm talking to
- 12:50Speaker 10: some of the coaches B and C chances, but we
- 12:52Speaker 10: don't have a lot of A chances and when you
- 12:55Speaker 10: obviously need to get more of those.
- 12:56Speaker 6: The power play getting a goal the other night. It
- 12:58Speaker 6: seems like matters are gradually turning a corner here for
- 13:01Speaker 6: the units. What's working more when it comes to shop volume.
- 13:04Speaker 10: Just being aggressive. I think you know again, you know what,
- 13:09Speaker 10: it doesn't go the right way or slow, not necessarily
- 13:13Speaker 10: processing it. You're trying to make the right play, the
- 13:15Speaker 10: cute plays sometimes you know, shoot shooting more.
- 13:18Speaker 5: Mentality is better, And yeah, that's that's That's what I
- 13:23Speaker 5: could say about.
- 13:23Speaker 6: That practice on Monday. How'd you feel about it? And
- 13:26Speaker 6: what's getting this team geared from the right direction again?
- 13:29Speaker 10: Try to again forget about you know, obviously you gotta
- 13:31Speaker 10: work towards what we've been you know, lacking, but you
- 13:35Speaker 10: gotta keep the mentality of just kind of another game.
- 13:38Speaker 10: We got another tough opponent. It's not supposed to be easy,
- 13:41Speaker 10: so you guys should be excited about tonight.
- 13:43Speaker 6: What's the biggest key with hand when the schedule right now,
- 13:45Speaker 6: being that you're playing so many games and just so
- 13:47Speaker 6: little time.
- 13:47Speaker 5: Before the holiday break.
- 13:48Speaker 10: Yeah, recover, you know obviously, when you you have bumps
- 13:52Speaker 10: and bruises, you gotta you know, maintain them. But again,
- 13:55Speaker 10: just stay mentally physically, you know, within the game, and
- 13:59Speaker 10: you know, be ready ago just because there's so many games,
- 14:01Speaker 10: like you said, and you gotta be ready.
- 14:04Speaker 6: The team coming up on the other side of the
- 14:06Speaker 6: ice is quite the challenge in Colorado. It seems like
- 14:08Speaker 6: as a lot going for him. But you know it's
- 14:10Speaker 6: not the first time that you know, you and these
- 14:12Speaker 6: other guys have faced a team rolling like they are.
- 14:15Speaker 6: So what's the difference in how you defend, first off,
- 14:18Speaker 6: a guy like Nathan McKinnon versus other superstars in this league.
- 14:21Speaker 10: Yeah, you gotta maintain his speed. Obviously, he's gonna create chances.
- 14:24Speaker 10: He's gonna get his chances, but you gotta limit them
- 14:26Speaker 10: as best you can. Get in his face, play him hard,
- 14:29Speaker 10: get your stick in his lane, you know. But like
- 14:32Speaker 10: a guy that got you got to maintain stay out
- 14:34Speaker 10: of the box. Obviously, they're really huge there. But they're
- 14:36Speaker 10: a heck of a team out there. And you know,
- 14:38Speaker 10: I think for our team, our Josh, play smart, be
- 14:41Speaker 10: in their face, play with speed, and make a challenging
- 14:44Speaker 10: for their top guys. And if we do that, I
- 14:46Speaker 10: think it should be a really good game.
- 14:48Speaker 6: Finally, at this point of the season, what have you
- 14:49Speaker 6: appreciated about the value of leadership in this room and
- 14:52Speaker 6: especially others underhead coach Land Lambert ere in this first year.
- 14:55Speaker 10: Yeah, Lan's mcgutt. He's a communicator. He's not obviously happy
- 14:59Speaker 10: we're with that, and he's not going to accept that.
- 15:01Speaker 10: So I think that's you know, good for us to have,
- 15:04Speaker 10: you know, a guy that you know we can lead,
- 15:06Speaker 10: lean on, lead us, you know, to getting us in
- 15:09Speaker 10: the right direction. And again he's positive, but you know
- 15:13Speaker 10: when we need to you know, kicking the uh kicking
- 15:16Speaker 10: the butt, he's he's there to kind of be ready
- 15:18Speaker 10: for us, and obviously it's nice to have.
- 15:21Speaker 5: Him on our side. Appreciate this, Brandon, thank you, Yeah,
- 15:23Speaker 5: thank you.
- 15:24Speaker 6: So the crack and looking for a boost from that
- 15:26Speaker 6: mindset against Colorado first of three meetings and after this evening,
- 15:30Speaker 6: these two teams won't need to get until after the
- 15:32Speaker 6: trade deadline. Right back Aaron Seattle on March twelfth. Your
- 15:35Speaker 6: cracking story lines first up again with Chandler Stevenson and
- 15:38Speaker 6: his impact potentially up against Nathan McKinnon. That could be
- 15:42Speaker 6: a big match up to watch. He's got points now
- 15:44Speaker 6: in each of the last five games, up to seventeen
- 15:47Speaker 6: points now third on the Crack and in scoring. Secondly,
- 15:50Speaker 6: Philip Grubauer back in it, and once again can he
- 15:53Speaker 6: give his former team fits against Colorado. He's held his
- 15:57Speaker 6: own five five and one thirteen games, so that doesn't
- 15:59Speaker 6: all include the first round of the twenty twenty three
- 16:02Speaker 6: Stanley Cup playoffs where he was sensational in the seven
- 16:06Speaker 6: game upset. And to win this evening a miss a
- 16:08Speaker 6: turnaround year, would mean his first win since the twenty
- 16:12Speaker 6: second of November that was at Pittsburgh. He's looking forward
- 16:15Speaker 6: to that certainly. And finally, the Krack and defense where
- 16:18Speaker 6: a big test is coming in this trained versus straight
- 16:21Speaker 6: matchup five on five goals the Krack and typer third
- 16:24Speaker 6: fewest allowed in the league with forty nine up against Colorado.
- 16:28Speaker 6: Ninety two goals scored at five on five, that is
- 16:30Speaker 6: most in the NHL last five krack and wins overall,
- 16:34Speaker 6: they've allowed three goals or less. So no Jayden Schwartz,
- 16:37Speaker 6: no Jared mccamb Berkeley Catton or goaltender Matt Murray on
- 16:41Speaker 6: IR and GM. Jason Botterill joined ninety three to three
- 16:44Speaker 6: KJRFM and our friend Ian Furness on Monday for a
- 16:48Speaker 6: look on the return of Schwartz, m McCann and five
- 16:52Speaker 6: more games to go before the holiday break.
- 16:56Speaker 11: Jane Schwartz is maybe the most underrated player that this
- 17:00Speaker 11: NHL has right now. I mean, and his importance to
- 17:02Speaker 11: your team is is we see it every night now
- 17:04Speaker 11: without him out there?
- 17:05Speaker 5: Yep.
- 17:05Speaker 11: Jared McCann as well, huge huge absences right now with
- 17:09Speaker 11: those two guys, specifically how close are they to coming back?
- 17:12Speaker 11: And when I ask you about all these things about
- 17:14Speaker 11: can you add top six guys and all that, how
- 17:16Speaker 11: much of it is just kind of like making sure
- 17:18Speaker 11: you kind of stay steady where you are because when
- 17:20Speaker 11: you get those guys back, that's like two massive roster.
- 17:23Speaker 5: Editions as well.
- 17:23Speaker 12: Well, there are two massive roster dishes, and there's still
- 17:26Speaker 12: gonna be a little bit of time before coming back
- 17:27Speaker 12: from that standpoint, but you know, they just they add
- 17:31Speaker 12: so much depth to our organization and to our team.
- 17:33Speaker 12: You know, whenever you have those two guys in the lineup,
- 17:35Speaker 12: they create so much out there. They both in play,
- 17:38Speaker 12: power play, penalty killing, even strength. You know, Jaden's a
- 17:42Speaker 12: you know, we're a team that needs to improve on
- 17:43Speaker 12: our NetFront presence. He's one of our best there. He's
- 17:45Speaker 12: always in and around the crease, creating an havoc out there.
- 17:48Speaker 12: You know, McCann's a player that you saw it in
- 17:50Speaker 12: the game before last week against LA before he left
- 17:53Speaker 12: with an injury, like he can beat it goalie cleanly.
- 17:56Speaker 12: He's got that that heart of a shot from that standpoint.
- 17:59Speaker 12: So we certainly us but put other people in those opportunities,
- 18:03Speaker 12: and we need some of our younger players and our
- 18:05Speaker 12: other players to step up. And you know, when we
- 18:08Speaker 12: get those players back, they'll certainly help us out a lot.
- 18:11Speaker 12: Big stretch coming up before Christmas break. Nice thing the
- 18:14Speaker 12: NHL does, though, They do shut down during the Christmas break,
- 18:16Speaker 12: which is kind of good for a few days.
- 18:17Speaker 5: So they do do that. But how important are these
- 18:19Speaker 5: next five games?
- 18:20Speaker 12: Well, look, it's gonna be a game, It's gonna be
- 18:23Speaker 12: a real challenge against Colorado. Obviously, they're the best team
- 18:25Speaker 12: in the league right now by a long shot, and
- 18:28Speaker 12: you talk about parody, they're the one exception stuff for sure,
- 18:30Speaker 12: So it will be a challenge there. And then look,
- 18:32Speaker 12: we have to I think in our first road trip
- 18:35Speaker 12: out east. You know, Lane brought a road warrior mentality.
- 18:39Speaker 12: That's what we'll have to do for the four game
- 18:41Speaker 12: road trip as we go up to Calgary and then
- 18:43Speaker 12: down to California there. So it's going to be imperative
- 18:45Speaker 12: that we find ways to continue to improve our special teams,
- 18:48Speaker 12: continue to find in a little extra goal out there,
- 18:51Speaker 12: and to have success.
- 18:52Speaker 5: You're leading to Christmas.
- 18:54Speaker 6: That's Crack and GM Jason Bottorol. We'll come back in

- 21:50Speaker 6: We have the crack in an Avalanche coming up in
- 21:51Speaker 6: about a half an hour in time to ask what
- 21:53Speaker 6: are the odds? That's brought to you by the Evergreen
- 21:55Speaker 6: Council on Problem Gambling in your Odds courtesy bet MGM.
- 21:59Speaker 6: The line with Colorado at minus three twenty five and
- 22:02Speaker 6: the over under is six. The pregame show is served
- 22:05Speaker 6: up by Frostcrewed Corps, Light Chews, Chill, Mike Benton with
- 22:09Speaker 6: you in time now for a look at the Avalanche
- 22:11Speaker 6: and they are a challenge and here are your reasons why.
- 22:15Speaker 6: They own the league's top record twenty three to two
- 22:18Speaker 6: and seven lead the NHL in regulation wins five on
- 22:22Speaker 6: five goal ratio goals four goals against. No one's beaten
- 22:26Speaker 6: them at home in regulation yet this year plus they
- 22:29Speaker 6: own the number one PK in the NHL. They are
- 22:33Speaker 6: certainly rolling. They beat Nashville for two last time outs
- 22:37Speaker 6: courtesy goals from Jack Dury, Victor Olivson, Valari Nachushkin and
- 22:40Speaker 6: Sam Gerard. But we learn one thing. You can't let
- 22:43Speaker 6: them get rolling fast. Because they're now up to nine
- 22:46Speaker 6: times scoring a goal in the opening ninety seconds of
- 22:50Speaker 6: a game this season. That is a new franchise record.
- 22:53Speaker 6: And after that win, their head coach Jared Bedner explained
- 22:56Speaker 6: on what they're doing with getting out of the gates
- 22:58Speaker 6: so fast.
- 23:00Speaker 15: They weren't ready to go focused. I think, you know,
- 23:02Speaker 15: like it's all you always want to try to get
- 23:04Speaker 15: to a good starting at home. I think we're doing
- 23:06Speaker 15: a better job of that, like scoring early anyway. But
- 23:11Speaker 15: I think it's just yeah, it's it's guys getting prepared
- 23:15Speaker 15: and their focus and getting ready to play with some
- 23:17Speaker 15: energy and getting some good looks early on in games.
- 23:21Speaker 6: So the crack and no, they got to get out
- 23:22Speaker 6: to their own fast start because Colorado's pretty good at it.
- 23:25Speaker 6: They have led fifty four percent of the time this season,
- 23:28Speaker 6: that leads the NHL. They have trailed in games only
- 23:31Speaker 6: seventeen percent of the time, that is lowest in the NHL.
- 23:35Speaker 6: But the one thing about Colorado, they've gone firepower. But
- 23:38Speaker 6: after that it's kind of a drop off because you
- 23:40Speaker 6: have Nathan McKinnon of course, twenty six goals and arguably
- 23:44Speaker 6: a hard Trophy favorite. But then martin Age's fourteen goals
- 23:47Speaker 6: after that are Tory lekin In brock Nelson with twelve,
- 23:51Speaker 6: Cale mccarr with ten, and plus McKinnon and mccar at
- 23:54Speaker 6: times we'll get a full two minutes of power play
- 23:56Speaker 6: time according to Bedner based on their energy level, and
- 23:59Speaker 6: that power is struggling right now, twenty eighth in the
- 24:02Speaker 6: NHL and also lasts in the NHL on the road.
- 24:06Speaker 6: Your Avalanche story lines, first off, containing Nathan McKinnon, the
- 24:10Speaker 6: league's leading score He was NHL First Star of the Month.
- 24:13Speaker 6: He comes in with a streak of five straight games
- 24:16Speaker 6: with a point nine in that total. Second story line
- 24:20Speaker 6: handling Kale mccarr. You ask fans here he is still
- 24:23Speaker 6: getting plenty of attention when he touches the puck and
- 24:26Speaker 6: the krack, and want to keep as much attention on
- 24:28Speaker 6: him As far as defense, he owns six straight games
- 24:31Speaker 6: with a point six in total and thirty eight points
- 24:35Speaker 6: in thirty games, leads all NHL defenseman. Third story line
- 24:39Speaker 6: McKenzie Blackwood in that he was solid recent outing for
- 24:42Speaker 6: him twenty three saves in a six to two win
- 24:44Speaker 6: over Florida. This will be the second time he'll face
- 24:47Speaker 6: the crack and in an Avalanche Jersey, but has seen
- 24:49Speaker 6: them as well previously. Seven games in his career. He
- 24:53Speaker 6: owns a four to one and one record with San
- 24:55Speaker 6: Jose and New Jersey, and he has won his last
- 24:58Speaker 6: three decisions. You come back after this and back upstairs

- 27:16Speaker 3: their pre holiday home schedule tonight with a meeting against.
- 27:20Speaker 1: The NHL's best, Colorado Avalanche.
- 27:23Speaker 3: We're gonna break it down here more in a second,
- 27:25Speaker 3: but first slips bas for a station id on the
- 27:28Speaker 3: Global Credit Union Crackadanio Network. All right, partner Colorado twenty three,
- 27:43Speaker 3: two and seven. They've cooled off a little bit as
- 27:46Speaker 3: of late, seven to one and two in their last
- 27:48Speaker 3: ten games, so they've been struggling a bit as uh,
- 27:51Speaker 3: you know, for Colorado Avalanche purposes.
- 27:54Speaker 5: Uh, for Seattle.
- 27:55Speaker 3: We've seen all year long, this team has played good teams. Well,
- 27:59Speaker 3: they've got some big wins against some seemingly unbeatable teams.
- 28:04Speaker 3: What do the Kraken have to do here tonight to
- 28:07Speaker 3: add the Avalanche to that list?
- 28:09Speaker 5: Well, the first one is slay the goalie matchup. Slay.
- 28:13Speaker 5: It's apelled eigh.
- 28:15Speaker 4: Colon brings firepower, so the krack and need the expected starter.
- 28:19Speaker 4: Philip Rubauer dialed in, calm and ready to steal a
- 28:23Speaker 4: moment or two big saves at big times. Take the
- 28:25Speaker 4: air out of the avs and crank up the volume
- 28:27Speaker 4: inside this building. One statement save can stuff Colorado's offense
- 28:32Speaker 4: like a Christmas turkey. Secondly, wrap up Nathan McKinnon like
- 28:36Speaker 4: a Christmas present. You're not stopping him, You're annoying him.
- 28:40Speaker 4: You're containing him. Gap control, body position and layers through
- 28:44Speaker 4: the neutral zone. Turn his north south north south rocket
- 28:47Speaker 4: speed into rush hour traffic. Play him tight, play them physical,
- 28:51Speaker 4: and angle him off pucks. If he's thinking instead of flying,
- 28:54Speaker 4: the Kraken are doing something very right. And then third,
- 28:58Speaker 4: special teams without the seasonal stress. This is not the
- 29:02Speaker 4: night for sloppy penalties or power play or a power
- 29:04Speaker 4: play that needs assembly instructions. Stay out of the box,
- 29:07Speaker 4: and when you do get the man advantage, move it quick,
- 29:10Speaker 4: shoot with shoot with purpose, simple, sharp, and slightly ruthless.
- 29:15Speaker 4: Special teams does the trick bottom line get goultening that
- 29:19Speaker 4: makes Colorado frustrated, turn McKinnon's night into a grind and
- 29:23Speaker 4: keep the special teams tidy. Do that and CPA becomes
- 29:27Speaker 4: a very unfriendly holiday holiday stop for the Apps. Think
- 29:30Speaker 4: more ugly sweater party than elegant dinner, Loud, chaotic, and
- 29:35Speaker 4: hard to leave early. When tonight, everyone heads done on
- 29:38Speaker 4: the road with two points, smiling like they just found
- 29:40Speaker 4: an extra present under the tree.
- 29:41Speaker 1: That was the best. I was always one hidden. How
- 29:45Speaker 1: don't you gonna look over there next to the TV?
- 29:47Speaker 3: I think there's one over there, you know, Colorado. We
- 29:51Speaker 3: this is the first time in the crack and I'm
- 29:52Speaker 3: seeing Colorado. They'll see him twice more, both after the deadline.
- 29:56Speaker 3: So these two teams could.
- 29:58Speaker 5: Be wildly different.
- 30:00Speaker 1: I've gone in.
- 30:01Speaker 3: I went into the season saying the last matchup of
- 30:04Speaker 3: the year, the last game game eighty two, April sixteenth,
- 30:08Speaker 3: kracking in Colorado potentially could be a playoff implicating matchup,
- 30:13Speaker 3: And I think I'm gonna still stand by that lot
- 30:16Speaker 3: of hockey to go.
- 30:16Speaker 1: But man, they've gotten off to.
- 30:18Speaker 5: A hot start.
- 30:19Speaker 3: Looking at their roster, no weaknesses on this team. Only
- 30:22Speaker 3: one player has an even rating, no minus ratings on
- 30:25Speaker 3: this team. And they just keep on rolling in and
- 30:28Speaker 3: they're very healthy as well.
- 30:29Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 30:30Speaker 4: Absolutely, they own the top or the top four positions
- 30:34Speaker 4: on the plus minus. Yeah for the league. For the league,
- 30:37Speaker 4: the top four, So I look that up, but starts
- 30:39Speaker 4: with Nathan McKinnon at the top, but at number one.
- 30:42Speaker 4: But the last two times they've lost in regulation three
- 30:44Speaker 4: two to Boston in November. Tight game, right, low scoring game.
- 30:48Speaker 4: That's what the crackling gotta do. Yeah, they lost in
- 30:50Speaker 4: regulation to the Islanders as well, six to three. Blackwood
- 30:53Speaker 4: goaltender you're gonna see tonight for Colorado. He gave up
- 30:56Speaker 4: five of those six goals and guess Nembers nifty enter
- 30:58Speaker 4: there as well. So this is a go that we're
- 31:00Speaker 4: expecting to see tonight that the Kraken could have some
- 31:03Speaker 4: success against kracking.
- 31:04Speaker 3: Earlier this year in Winnipeg, beat Winnipeg three nothing. They
- 31:07Speaker 3: came back the very next game at home to beat
- 31:09Speaker 3: the Oilers by a three to two score. They beat
- 31:11Speaker 3: Winnipeg here at home five to three. They beat Toronto
- 31:14Speaker 3: in Toronto four to three in overtime. Game two of
- 31:17Speaker 3: the season. They beat the Vegas Golden Knights by a
- 31:19Speaker 3: two to one score, and then of course, they open
- 31:21Speaker 3: up the season with a three to one win against Anaheim.
- 31:24Speaker 3: I say all that the same those teams are all
- 31:26Speaker 3: now at near the top of their division. They have
- 31:28Speaker 3: been in a playoffs spot, they are amongst the league's
- 31:32Speaker 3: elite this season. So it's been done before and there's
- 31:36Speaker 3: no reason to think that it can't be. Then again,
- 31:38Speaker 3: here's to night. No, this team knows how to play
- 31:40Speaker 3: that way. But as we've talked about, you cannot take
- 31:42Speaker 3: a shift off. You cannot not take a period off
- 31:44Speaker 3: every single shift. You have to know what your job
- 31:47Speaker 3: is and go out and execute.
- 31:48Speaker 4: And your job might be on the fourth line where
- 31:50Speaker 4: you just need to not hurt the team defensively in
- 31:52Speaker 4: your own end, take advantage of offensive it comes, but
- 31:55Speaker 4: not hurt the team that might put your job or
- 31:57Speaker 4: maybe your Chandler Stevenson or many paniers where you know
- 32:00Speaker 4: you've got to lead some offense out there. So go
- 32:02Speaker 4: out and do your job. You know, don't make any
- 32:05Speaker 4: drastic mistakes. You'll find yourself in the tight game you're
- 32:07Speaker 4: in the third period.
- 32:08Speaker 3: Finally, al from a player perspective, the Cracking have got
- 32:11Speaker 3: seven eight guys who are sick dealing with whatever has
- 32:16Speaker 3: been going on around the league.
- 32:17Speaker 1: I'm sure you've had to play sick before. How where
- 32:20Speaker 1: do you find it?
- 32:21Speaker 3: How do you how do you muster in a in
- 32:24Speaker 3: a sixty minute game against a team like Colorado when
- 32:27Speaker 3: all you want to do is go in the back,
- 32:29Speaker 3: take some night quill and go to bed.
- 32:30Speaker 4: Yeah, well that's the opposite. It's it's day, well the day, Yeah,
- 32:36Speaker 4: fluids in sleep. Man like like, rest is a weapon,
- 32:39Speaker 4: especially when you're sick, don't I know? So, I'm I'm
- 32:42Speaker 4: sure the guys that are fighting in that battle right
- 32:44Speaker 4: now have been getting a lot of rest. But when
- 32:46Speaker 4: it comes to game time, you've just got to grind
- 32:48Speaker 4: through it.
- 32:49Speaker 5: Listen.
- 32:49Speaker 4: You know, if you're buckled over and throwing up, that's different, right,
- 32:52Speaker 4: But if but if you're under the weather and you
- 32:54Speaker 4: just feel grungy and you you don't feel you know,
- 32:57Speaker 4: one hundred percent, you play that through that stuff every
- 33:00Speaker 4: single game.
- 33:00Speaker 1: So what you're saying is you have to be a gamer.
- 33:02Speaker 5: Right, You have to be a gamer. Sometuff that would
- 33:04Speaker 5: keep us away, Yeah, doesn't keep these guys away.

- 35:33Speaker 6: Like betting with you back at Climate Plage Arena, Crackin
- 35:36Speaker 6: and Avalanche coming up and the Cracking are trying to
- 35:39Speaker 6: get out of a tough stretch record wise illness and injuries.
- 35:43Speaker 5: So how do they find solutions?
- 35:44Speaker 6: Well, heading into this one, Lane Lambert has more in
- 35:47Speaker 6: our conversation crack an Avalanche coming up here and back
- 35:50Speaker 6: now with cracket head coach Lane Lambert and Land. It
- 35:52Speaker 6: seems like that it's that time of the year right
- 35:54Speaker 6: now where more meds are on the menu here to
- 35:56Speaker 6: essentially combat illness. So how valuable first off can your
- 36:00Speaker 6: sport staff to get as many guys back on the
- 36:02Speaker 6: right path, whether it's be a hands on approach or
- 36:05Speaker 6: just their intel as well.
- 36:06Speaker 22: Yeah, well, you know, obviously, like you said, there's there's illness,
- 36:11Speaker 22: but I think it. You know, there's illness going throughout
- 36:13Speaker 22: the league right and you know you see on a
- 36:17Speaker 22: nightly basis, you know two or three guys from each
- 36:19Speaker 22: team that are you know, out maybe because of illness.
- 36:23Speaker 22: But what you don't see is you know the other
- 36:25Speaker 22: six or eight guys that we had the other night
- 36:27Speaker 22: that we're playing and we're sick, you know, So that
- 36:30Speaker 22: support staff is huge for us in terms of trying
- 36:32Speaker 22: to get these guys healthy as much as possible, do
- 36:36Speaker 22: the right things, and combat it, you know, sort of
- 36:39Speaker 22: be a little bit more proactive than reactive. But certainly
- 36:43Speaker 22: this is the time of year for this kind of
- 36:45Speaker 22: thing right now.
- 36:46Speaker 6: We often hear more and more of these days that
- 36:49Speaker 6: rest is a weapon, and there's five games here to
- 36:51Speaker 6: play in this next week before the holidays. So to you,
- 36:54Speaker 6: how much has this game changed over the years is
- 36:56Speaker 6: approached to rest time and rest days as well, I.
- 37:00Speaker 22: Think it's changed a lot, to be honest with you,
- 37:04Speaker 22: which is really kind of strange, because you know, back
- 37:07Speaker 22: in the old days when I was playing, we used
- 37:09Speaker 22: to fly commercial, so it would stay overnight after the game,
- 37:13Speaker 22: get up, go to the airport, go through security, all
- 37:15Speaker 22: that stuff. Now we just jump on a plane and
- 37:17Speaker 22: we're gone, you know, And so I feel like we
- 37:21Speaker 22: even practiced a little bit more back then. But the
- 37:24Speaker 22: schedule right now, the travel, you know, how demanding it
- 37:29Speaker 22: is on the players and each individual game itself. You
- 37:34Speaker 22: have to put everything you have into that. And it's
- 37:38Speaker 22: one thing that you know, I want fans to understand
- 37:42Speaker 22: is that you know they're giving everything they have and
- 37:46Speaker 22: at the end of the game they're spent, and so
- 37:49Speaker 22: the rest ratio is super important. You know, we practiced yesterday,
- 37:54Speaker 22: which was our in between day. You know, who knows
- 37:58Speaker 22: what we're going to do tomorrow, and you know in
- 38:01Speaker 22: San Jose and then again in Anaheim, because we play
- 38:04Speaker 22: so many games that if you don't have energy for
- 38:08Speaker 22: the game, you'd decrease your chances of winning right off the.
- 38:11Speaker 6: Hop if we can go back to the penalty kill.
- 38:13Speaker 6: On Sunday, they get two of two against Buffalo, which
- 38:15Speaker 6: in theory is good of course for no goals allowed.
- 38:17Speaker 6: But what are you noticing about how the fores and
- 38:19Speaker 6: defensemen are reacting to what's been thrown at them.
- 38:22Speaker 22: Yeah, they're doing good. We changed it clearly needed to,
- 38:29Speaker 22: you know, and it was to the point where, you know,
- 38:33Speaker 22: you hate to change something on an in between day
- 38:37Speaker 22: and make it a real significant change, But we just
- 38:42Speaker 22: weren't able to grasp the concepts that we wanted to
- 38:45Speaker 22: go with, and so we've had to make some adjustments
- 38:48Speaker 22: to that. And I think those adjustments have put more
- 38:52Speaker 22: onus on our defense and less onus on our forwards.
- 38:57Speaker 22: And so what we've done is we've tried to take
- 39:00Speaker 22: our veteran defensemen and make them have more of the
- 39:05Speaker 22: reads than our young forwards, some guys that haven't even
- 39:08Speaker 22: killed in this league before, or killed very minimally in
- 39:11Speaker 22: this league, and we're continuing to make mistakes, and so
- 39:16Speaker 22: we've had to make that adjustment.
- 39:18Speaker 6: You must to say, Colorado is rolling right now. And
- 39:20Speaker 6: we talk with Brandon Monteur the other day about Nathan
- 39:23Speaker 6: McKinnon saying that he'll get his chances, but close attention
- 39:26Speaker 6: matters when it comes to defensive covers. So what's the
- 39:29Speaker 6: mindset you want the guys going out with here for tonight?
- 39:31Speaker 22: Uh? Well, I mean, we obviously have to be aware
- 39:34Speaker 22: of these guys. They're dynamic. You know they will get chances.
- 39:38Speaker 22: We have to give them this few chances as possible.
- 39:41Speaker 22: Our mindset is pay close attention to those guys, don't
- 39:44Speaker 22: give them too much time and space. And in saying that,
- 39:47Speaker 22: that doesn't mean you're backing up. We've got to play.
- 39:50Speaker 22: We've got to play north, we've got to play on
- 39:52Speaker 22: the attack, and you know we don't want to be
- 39:56Speaker 22: on our heels. So this is clearly the best hockey
- 40:00Speaker 22: team in the league by a mile, right, now you
- 40:04Speaker 22: know McKinnon's already plus forty. Usually you know plus forty
- 40:09Speaker 22: wins the plus minus over an eighty two game schedule.
- 40:12Speaker 22: It's mind boggling to me what this team has done
- 40:15Speaker 22: so far with two regulation losses. It's going to be
- 40:19Speaker 22: a great challenge for us and we're looking forward to it.
- 40:23Speaker 6: That's Lane Lambert. Your lineups are next. You're listening to
