- 0:14Speaker 3: The hard to nail down, good to be here. I'm good.
- 0:21Speaker 3: I am good.
- 0:21Speaker 2: Good summer brilling, summer eye holidays.
- 0:25Speaker 4: Don't That's what I've done for My memory is terrible,
- 0:26Speaker 4: but I mean the cut a holidays.
- 0:28Speaker 3: I no longer wear it enough. It has been good here.
- 0:31Speaker 4: I went away for a week, but two separate holidays,
- 0:34Speaker 4: calidor you have been holiday ady myself, well twice. I've
- 0:39Speaker 4: done it just during your own just me, myself, you.
- 0:41Speaker 2: Yourself and I. I just golf.
- 0:44Speaker 4: I've done it once, noney golf, just four days, just
- 0:49Speaker 4: one night of sitting for dinner. But right, so it's
- 0:51Speaker 4: obviously a vulnerable place to be, but it's brilliant.
- 0:53Speaker 5: It's just you.
- 0:54Speaker 4: You get to them, you want, you walk about, you
- 0:55Speaker 4: will have a wonder, you have a beer, you have
- 0:57Speaker 4: a coffee to whoever you're it's brollying. The one that
- 1:02Speaker 4: I'm sitting right, and there's one table left in the restaurant.
- 1:04Speaker 4: The guys that you can sit here, I saw right,
- 1:07Speaker 4: says I are sort of right at the very front
- 1:09Speaker 4: cala door, looking at to perfect looking at why his.
- 1:12Speaker 3: Name sat here?
- 1:12Speaker 4: Anyway, next minute I'm sitting something has me tap the
- 1:16Speaker 4: heat and acons fell at the trees. So I'm like, gee,
- 1:19Speaker 4: what's the chance of that next minute shoutowing shadowing? Holding
- 1:24Speaker 4: my shirt's telling you fuck ten minutes I first, no
- 1:28Speaker 4: move shouting again. Families in that turning room like so
- 1:32Speaker 4: I know they know, the kids in that looking and
- 1:34Speaker 4: snigger and the numb each and I'm just sat myself.
- 1:36Speaker 3: I thought I can't sit here on it and get shadowing.
- 1:38Speaker 4: So I waited a laugh with the sparkling water with
- 1:40Speaker 4: my hanging on that, and then just went and moved.
- 1:42Speaker 3: But I hold myself, man, brother, I could do that.
- 1:46Speaker 5: Could you do?
- 1:47Speaker 2: You know something?
- 1:48Speaker 1: Just when you're talking about that, I went down to
- 1:49Speaker 1: Crawley when I was injured at Sheffield Wednesday. I went
- 1:52Speaker 1: down to get treatment myself and I went to cineray
- 1:54Speaker 1: myself and I went for a table for one myself.
- 1:56Speaker 1: It is it's a it's a weird feeling.
- 1:58Speaker 5: I don't know, I don't.
- 1:59Speaker 4: Things going holiday going hold. I know it's the first
- 2:03Speaker 4: time I done it. A few year ago three years ago,
- 2:05Speaker 4: I just retired.
- 2:06Speaker 3: He was gone.
- 2:07Speaker 4: I was like, I'm away and I flew a ten
- 2:09Speaker 4: an eef for four days. I was just going to
- 2:10Speaker 4: go traveling myself sat about you got in the morning,
- 2:13Speaker 4: you're go for breakfast, then where they're going it, I'll
- 2:16Speaker 4: just walk them twenty twenty thousand steps a day with
- 2:19Speaker 4: your phones in and then.
- 2:22Speaker 3: Brilliant.
- 2:22Speaker 4: So you don't need to.
- 2:23Speaker 5: Worry about talking to your selling or that.
- 2:27Speaker 3: I talked to myself anyway.
- 2:29Speaker 4: Different, No, genuinely, but yeah, you don't need worry about
- 2:34Speaker 4: md els what they want to do. What do I
- 2:36Speaker 4: mean Obviously I love going to people as well. I'm
- 2:38Speaker 4: not I'm not a recluse, you know. I like I've
- 2:41Speaker 4: been holiday with You've be being to things abroad that
- 2:44Speaker 4: as well, so I like to like to do that
- 2:46Speaker 4: as well. But see going yourself, it's something completely.
- 2:49Speaker 5: It's mad.
- 2:50Speaker 4: You go up at night, right, so you during the
- 2:52Speaker 4: day and you got at night, either have a week sleep,
- 2:53Speaker 4: I've a wake up shower, gone for dinner. You you're
- 2:56Speaker 4: like you're leaving the hotel to go for then yourself.
- 2:59Speaker 3: Like you're popping.
- 2:59Speaker 4: That was good?
- 3:00Speaker 6: Was that?
- 3:00Speaker 4: The World Cup was then? So I supported about four
- 3:03Speaker 4: different nations, so I was on that night. I was
- 3:05Speaker 4: in the pub.
- 3:05Speaker 3: Supporting that team. I mean, jump my book when Holland
- 3:08Speaker 3: scored the World Cup.
- 3:10Speaker 4: After watch loads of games, I know people are up
- 3:12Speaker 4: with to in them all and no I watching loads
- 3:13Speaker 4: of them, but I was the one of them. I
- 3:14Speaker 4: watched the big games and you know what, I'm happy
- 3:16Speaker 4: to say it. I wanted England to go all the
- 3:18Speaker 4: way to the final because I love see Scotland.
- 3:21Speaker 3: I'm not playing.
- 3:21Speaker 4: I love my next TV to watch is England because
- 3:25Speaker 4: you watch them every week. So was like, you're investing
- 3:27Speaker 4: with her dad and I wanted to get all the
- 3:29Speaker 4: way at the final and maybe lose it in penalties
- 3:31Speaker 4: or something.
- 3:31Speaker 3: I didn't.
- 3:32Speaker 4: I was gut even the Bok against think.
- 3:37Speaker 2: They were involved in two the best get I think
- 3:38Speaker 2: the Mexico game had ever ittten. I don't know if
- 3:40Speaker 2: you stayed up for that Mexico.
- 3:41Speaker 4: I saw the highlighted. I did to stay up for it.
- 3:42Speaker 1: Everything in that game and listen from an English point
- 3:46Speaker 1: of view, I don't know like Argentine again, but it
- 3:48Speaker 1: was an exciting.
- 3:49Speaker 2: Game as well.
- 3:49Speaker 4: When then I had to watch them, do you know
- 3:52Speaker 4: like see that feeling you're getting during the day when
- 3:54Speaker 4: I get a good fight of games and you go, yes,
- 3:55Speaker 4: that's on the night and you what you.
- 3:57Speaker 3: Want to watch it. I used to get that with England.
- 3:59Speaker 4: I would get up Scotland game and then the next
- 4:00Speaker 4: team is England and then see a part of that.
- 4:02Speaker 4: It would need to be like a France or a
- 4:04Speaker 4: Spain or two biggings going together.
- 4:07Speaker 6: I think it's always been the case through the years.
- 4:10Speaker 6: Like our biggest bug bearers obviously the commentators and the media,
- 4:15Speaker 6: but actual players have no issues with them.
- 4:18Speaker 5: They had good players, the Beckhams, you know, the Schools.
- 4:21Speaker 5: He's all the all the years of.
- 4:23Speaker 6: Watching them and Lampards, but you just it's it's the
- 4:27Speaker 6: backlash of them doing well.
- 4:29Speaker 5: Is you know you're still showing sixty six and.
- 4:31Speaker 3: Them and don't want to win to day.
- 4:33Speaker 6: That's and how they how we are with the Scots
- 4:37Speaker 6: when we get knocked to a wee bit underwhelming, honestly, right, I.
- 4:43Speaker 3: Don't know how you when I'm watching them.
- 4:45Speaker 4: We little only nation turned up at the World Cup,
- 4:47Speaker 4: right and we go can make it beat here and
- 4:49Speaker 4: still we through we like have the other team had
- 4:53Speaker 4: turn up anybody and need.
- 4:54Speaker 2: To be beat by here one we'll be through it.
- 4:57Speaker 4: It's almost all the like has it done yet? Are
- 5:00Speaker 4: we through it? But it's every other team you watch,
- 5:02Speaker 4: their wingers are try to get play to them, the strikers,
- 5:04Speaker 4: I try to score. Everybody's trying to look good and
- 5:06Speaker 4: we're almost just wanted to be over. What's frying this?
- 5:09Speaker 6: It's I don't know about it. Just your game is
- 5:13Speaker 6: a whole survival. You know, look at a Premier League.
- 5:17Speaker 6: Everybody was striving to get in top six. It's one
- 5:21Speaker 6: of my bug bearers when I was managing, I end
- 5:23Speaker 6: up finding myself saying, and all we did when you
- 5:25Speaker 6: get the top six, we get a top six, we
- 5:27Speaker 6: have budget.
- 5:28Speaker 5: It's just surviving.
- 5:29Speaker 4: What is that culture? Like, sh what's going on?
- 5:32Speaker 1: It's assume because you get sucked into it for the
- 5:35Speaker 1: three games, you're full of hope and optimism and then
- 5:39Speaker 1: five minutes.
- 5:40Speaker 6: Out of the game year but it wasn't even five minutes,
- 5:43Speaker 6: two minutes. I know, we can hardly try to play
- 5:45Speaker 6: off in the first minute about five.
- 5:48Speaker 4: I was then the hydro, so you imagine atmosphere there.
- 5:50Speaker 4: I have days on it, golen bananas and it's just flat.
- 5:54Speaker 4: It's likely. The last thing I've on that second game
- 5:56Speaker 4: was it was a the first game, the second game
- 5:59Speaker 4: and English gone.
- 6:01Speaker 3: The second had an English commentary after the radio and
- 6:04Speaker 3: in Iigrol for.
- 6:05Speaker 2: The head again with US one.
- 6:07Speaker 4: That's what it was. Second was in Morocco, so it
- 6:09Speaker 4: was just it was anti Scotland the whole time.
- 6:12Speaker 3: The atmosphere it was hard.
- 6:15Speaker 4: So see if I see see when I look at space,
- 6:17Speaker 4: look at Spain, look at Argentina. Right, the two teams
- 6:21Speaker 4: in the final young right their culture. Argentinian are playing
- 6:25Speaker 4: little culture and it's like empty wind and Spain are
- 6:30Speaker 4: like nice and tidy and football and in small players
- 6:34Speaker 4: we should I feel like we grewing circles, right, copying
- 6:36Speaker 4: our nations.
- 6:37Speaker 3: So we had the Dutch guy you after a bat
- 6:38Speaker 3: and then you get let go. We're putting these performance schools.
- 6:42Speaker 4: We're trying to be I don't know, we're always we
- 6:44Speaker 4: feel like we're always chasing a tail, trying to be
- 6:46Speaker 4: somebody else one never one never.
- 6:48Speaker 2: Especially.
- 6:51Speaker 6: When we're at it on the front foot, getting on
- 6:54Speaker 6: them in their faces, pushing and like we did with
- 6:57Speaker 6: certain games to get over the line. But then the
- 6:59Speaker 6: minute start trying to do things like the rest of them.
- 7:02Speaker 6: As you say, we get caught at the back with
- 7:05Speaker 6: set of halves. The LA's people you want on the
- 7:07Speaker 6: ball in the team who get caught. Didn't they see
- 7:10Speaker 6: him yet? You don't get that time and.
- 7:13Speaker 4: I think you're in between that speak.
- 7:14Speaker 5: He caught.
- 7:15Speaker 4: So if you're saying let's play for the bat, we're
- 7:16Speaker 4: going to be a team at places. But he don't play.
- 7:18Speaker 4: M Ken a left and a half. He played on
- 7:20Speaker 4: Tilney and he is r Kenna does. He does what
- 7:22Speaker 4: he does, but he limited. He said, he's simple and
- 7:24Speaker 4: he keeps it simple. Guns know the best of his
- 7:26Speaker 4: body's feet. He's playing short passes. You've got Louise Fergus
- 7:29Speaker 4: the midfield, who's brilliant the tournament for what he'd done,
- 7:31Speaker 4: but he's no a. He take the boss six to
- 7:33Speaker 4: dictate again and I try to play it to him.
- 7:35Speaker 4: We lose it. They score.
- 7:36Speaker 3: It's like, have you better just gone right?
- 7:38Speaker 4: It's time up the kilt, so you right, let's have
- 7:41Speaker 4: you shot a whiskey before we go, maybe two right,
- 7:44Speaker 4: and let's get in people's faces and maybe have a
- 7:47Speaker 4: laugh well, because we like I laugh as an acient
- 7:50Speaker 4: and well after people.
- 7:52Speaker 1: You look at all those countries that have been there
- 7:54Speaker 1: that they've had three moments that they kept Verde, yeah,
- 7:57Speaker 1: the goal against Argentina, he actually took.
- 7:59Speaker 2: The game to Argentina.
- 8:00Speaker 1: I'm getting back to the Spanish manager just talks about
- 8:03Speaker 1: that team playing together since about eight nine, ten years
- 8:06Speaker 1: of age. They all know what they're doing and they
- 8:08Speaker 1: actually you see that against France, they choked the life
- 8:11Speaker 1: out of France.
- 8:12Speaker 2: They can read where things are going and then when
- 8:14Speaker 2: they get the ball they just keep it for them.
- 8:16Speaker 5: The same with Spain. Every year it's the same groups.
- 8:19Speaker 5: The younger ones come through.
- 8:21Speaker 4: Me.
- 8:21Speaker 6: Look at our twenty ones, no we near it. Acted
- 8:25Speaker 6: in my last time they won again. You know, I've
- 8:27Speaker 6: just changed the manager now. But like the players that
- 8:30Speaker 6: they select and the players that we've got, what they're playing,
- 8:32Speaker 6: whether they're no playing perhaps some of them now played
- 8:35Speaker 6: men's football and they're supposed to be going through.
- 8:38Speaker 5: I mean ninety six we got to the finals. The
- 8:41Speaker 5: twenty ones, you know, eighty six, it was like the four.
- 8:44Speaker 6: Teams in Barcelona and there was only a maybe four
- 8:49Speaker 6: or five came through through twenty one.
- 8:53Speaker 5: As to Presley, there was.
- 8:57Speaker 2: Out that squad there was only four I think.
- 8:59Speaker 6: Christia Deili the World Cup night, yeah yeah, Christian Daily
- 9:03Speaker 6: it was too and.
- 9:06Speaker 5: Who's it on again? And the World Cup squad?
- 9:10Speaker 1: Can I mind that the French team that was in
- 9:12Speaker 1: that last four, half of them went and won the
- 9:14Speaker 1: World Cup two years later. And see the time, he
- 9:17Speaker 1: didn't know who you were because under twenty one you
- 9:20Speaker 1: knew Della Penna and you knew Raoul because they were
- 9:23Speaker 1: both playing Real Madrid.
- 9:26Speaker 2: Nobody else you really knew.
- 9:27Speaker 1: And then you're looking and it was like, well todd
- 9:29Speaker 1: boys like that, Viera and stuff won the World Cup,
- 9:33Speaker 1: had it was amazing.
- 9:35Speaker 5: It won it.
- 9:35Speaker 6: Italy won that one gentleman, they won the two Canavarro
- 9:39Speaker 6: Panucci and then the France.
- 9:41Speaker 3: Team was part of that went one France nint eight
- 9:43Speaker 3: two years later.
- 9:44Speaker 2: But we didn't know what the time.
- 9:46Speaker 5: Then I'm saying that's that's but again that was that
- 9:51Speaker 5: was ninety eight.
- 9:52Speaker 6: When you look at all the the we've had a
- 9:54Speaker 6: lot of good players over the years, you know what
- 9:56Speaker 6: I mean, A good group coming through Hibs or kind
- 10:00Speaker 6: of went onto good things. Brunie and that kind of
- 10:03Speaker 6: Tomson what it kills.
- 10:06Speaker 4: I just wonder what happens. I look at you. I
- 10:09Speaker 4: watched that locks my boys playing in it. He's eighteen,
- 10:11Speaker 4: and I've watched it for the last four or five years.
- 10:13Speaker 4: And again talking back to copying nations, but even you
- 10:16Speaker 4: go to copy nations or you think this is the
- 10:18Speaker 4: way to date, So take this. You need to know
- 10:21Speaker 4: exactly what they're doing, because if you don't, I'm seeing
- 10:24Speaker 4: goalkeepers pass it the cent and a half back to
- 10:26Speaker 4: the goalkeeper till all cent and a half till cent
- 10:27Speaker 4: a half back and forth, back and forth and no
- 10:30Speaker 4: gone anywhere. Yeah, to throw back back to center half
- 10:33Speaker 4: back by back, throw back back, and you're like sixty
- 10:37Speaker 4: five percent vision, but you've not went anyway.
- 10:38Speaker 3: I know.
- 10:39Speaker 4: It's if this is if I think possession is good.
- 10:43Speaker 4: Now the possession is my purpose. I'll try to get
- 10:45Speaker 4: to the end of the pit. So if it means
- 10:47Speaker 4: sometimes good a tap, yeah, Because I don't know. We
- 10:49Speaker 4: need to we need to get back to us who
- 10:52Speaker 4: we is a nation? What is our culture? I don't know.
- 10:54Speaker 5: I don't know anybody. If you look at it.
- 10:56Speaker 6: Even last year, the best team on view my mother
- 11:00Speaker 6: well nice best entertained football, and what happened to the
- 11:03Speaker 6: guy got a move because he was brave. He was there,
- 11:07Speaker 6: had a philosophy to play football, attacking football. You got
- 11:11Speaker 6: you off your seat or the mother will fans must
- 11:14Speaker 6: have been buzzing last year to go and watch every game,
- 11:16Speaker 6: you know, I like watching them, even though they popped them.
- 11:20Speaker 6: And that's where the same kind of group of players
- 11:22Speaker 6: and not just the manager he's moved, but a few
- 11:25Speaker 6: of the players got to move in the back because
- 11:27Speaker 6: he was brave.
- 11:28Speaker 5: And the new guy that's come in.
- 11:29Speaker 6: I know it's only one game against Tubs, but some
- 11:31Speaker 6: of the stuff there he's just sort of picked.
- 11:33Speaker 5: Up from that.
- 11:34Speaker 6: And it's the only think it's going to change because
- 11:37Speaker 6: you're improving players in the process, Guys that have been there,
- 11:40Speaker 6: guys of rework with boy Steven, O'Donnell, you know, and
- 11:44Speaker 6: McGinn pull McGinn and all that, playing set a half,
- 11:47Speaker 6: playing it for the back then there but having a structure.
- 11:54Speaker 6: But what happened to the guy's now outgrowing Scottish football.
- 11:57Speaker 6: He's away, Frans. We need more of these people in
- 12:03Speaker 6: and being brave, but that only comes by changing the
- 12:06Speaker 6: league for me, making it bigger. I mean, you obviously
- 12:09Speaker 6: had a shot in management and all albeit Kelly part time,
- 12:15Speaker 6: but I don't think there's ever such a thing as
- 12:16Speaker 6: part time management.
- 12:18Speaker 5: Was it did.
- 12:20Speaker 6: Like obviously we've been in at like six just over
- 12:23Speaker 6: six years in total in management. I don't miss it
- 12:26Speaker 6: as we bits are enjoyed, you know, he bits a
- 12:29Speaker 6: part of us, a wee bits it Dunde United. But
- 12:33Speaker 6: for me it was just a frustration with all the
- 12:36Speaker 6: non football stuff and when you're trying to change things,
- 12:39Speaker 6: you're trying to get boys to do things right, to
- 12:42Speaker 6: help them.
- 12:42Speaker 4: You're hoping they're.
- 12:43Speaker 6: Going to be brave, take the ball, take responsibility, give
- 12:46Speaker 6: them that freedom to play in the right areas, you know,
- 12:50Speaker 6: to use their intuition and not be robots. But when
- 12:54Speaker 6: you get there and then it's hard to keep doing
- 12:56Speaker 6: it and then fighting against I.
- 12:59Speaker 2: Do you find that.
- 13:00Speaker 1: I remember listening to your comments once it was over,
- 13:03Speaker 1: and you sounded hugely frustrated.
- 13:06Speaker 2: Just everything.
- 13:08Speaker 4: To be fair, you know, because I've spoke to you
- 13:10Speaker 4: about about it. I was just about five years last
- 13:14Speaker 4: five year my caay, I was passionate to be a manager.
- 13:17Speaker 4: I was like, this is what I want to do,
- 13:18Speaker 4: this is this is how I see the game. And
- 13:20Speaker 4: I want to put that in practice. But I realized
- 13:22Speaker 4: in management quickly it was only ten percent of that.
- 13:25Speaker 4: I was putting a game plan in place and watching
- 13:28Speaker 4: it go. Now I was going, I said, distablationment of
- 13:31Speaker 4: times I would rather lose games playing the way I
- 13:33Speaker 4: see the game, then didn't win and no know how
- 13:37Speaker 4: I've won, right, But that was only ten percent of
- 13:41Speaker 4: the rest of the stuff that goes beside it, dealing
- 13:43Speaker 4: with the board, Who are who are sound? What I say?
- 13:49Speaker 1: Sound?
- 13:50Speaker 4: One day I've come out and my fitness coach, who
- 13:52Speaker 4: was buying news is they've just been asking me for
- 13:57Speaker 4: starts for training. You've lost a few in arrows Lap?
- 14:01Speaker 4: Have I asking for stats and training? I says, I'm
- 14:04Speaker 4: not just told them this, I just lost it as
- 14:08Speaker 4: had to an assistant tape training. I went in and
- 14:11Speaker 4: the two of them are it's kelty. So everybody's all
- 14:13Speaker 4: hands to the decks. So I'm moving goals. The two
- 14:15Speaker 4: BOLD members are moving goals.
- 14:17Speaker 3: Right lap with tv T with the crossfather Lap. Can
- 14:22Speaker 3: I get one?
- 14:24Speaker 4: They speak to you, said, why did you you spent
- 14:26Speaker 4: to my fixt coach and asked for stats and asked
- 14:27Speaker 4: if the boys are training hard. But you used to
- 14:30Speaker 4: been speaking to me for the last half an hour.
- 14:31Speaker 4: And in the management room, why are you going behind
- 14:34Speaker 4: my back to my fix score. Yeah, come to me
- 14:37Speaker 4: and we'll sort of it. I'm nothing to hide here. Yeah,
- 14:40Speaker 4: oh no, but I'm sorry. We should have went to
- 14:42Speaker 4: I try to go with ruin a books and.
- 14:45Speaker 3: Oh my god.
- 14:46Speaker 4: I never realized until about the coaching and management. It's
- 14:50Speaker 4: mad because you have a twenty one years foot barean
- 14:52Speaker 4: and you don't see it because you're only focused on
- 14:53Speaker 4: you and the team and the boys and everything's a book.
- 14:55Speaker 4: The players, aren't it the minute step out of that side.
- 14:59Speaker 4: It's fo rats.
- 15:00Speaker 5: I know, it's horrible.
- 15:01Speaker 4: It's everybody made for each other. And I'm like my
- 15:04Speaker 4: assistant Hammled when I was eighteen coach, and i'most saying
- 15:09Speaker 4: I'm most saying to his face, I says, isn't him?
- 15:11Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 15:12Speaker 4: And it's like when you see that side that if
- 15:16Speaker 4: you can do that to me and wow, and then
- 15:19Speaker 4: your boulder on easy face and they go behind it.
- 15:22Speaker 2: It's had.
- 15:22Speaker 1: It's hard enough job if you've got everybody on the
- 15:26Speaker 1: same page, staff that are all going towards the same direction.
- 15:31Speaker 1: But if you've got one or two, which we found
- 15:33Speaker 1: as well. If you've got one or two that I
- 15:35Speaker 1: was going the other ways.
- 15:37Speaker 4: It's impossible. My captain was My captain went for the
- 15:40Speaker 4: job at the same time as me, who, by the way,
- 15:41Speaker 4: I had met before, because he's I had heard he
- 15:45Speaker 4: was a good coach. I'd met him and he wanted
- 15:46Speaker 4: to be my assistant wherever I went. He and first Jobe,
- 15:51Speaker 4: I get and heard it him his captain, and I
- 15:52Speaker 4: find it just before I get the job, that he's
- 15:54Speaker 4: went for the job.
- 15:55Speaker 3: But had he told me?
- 15:56Speaker 4: But why would you just tell me? Then actually told me,
- 16:00Speaker 4: But it was because he knew I knew it. And
- 16:03Speaker 4: then that was But then you go there you go.
- 16:06Speaker 4: I should get rid of him first day or two
- 16:08Speaker 4: days in or a weekend. But that's what good management
- 16:11Speaker 4: is into usual no us have been successful, and and
- 16:13Speaker 4: that in management and coaching. I should get rid of
- 16:16Speaker 4: him first week. By anever, I thought he's my best player,
- 16:19Speaker 4: hanging on him, see what he does, but it doesn't
- 16:21Speaker 4: matter how good and if he's knife and in the background,
- 16:23Speaker 4: and again I'm most saying the motal time his face,
- 16:25Speaker 4: I told her for the boy's my last day. I
- 16:27Speaker 4: know he was then that you're done.
- 16:31Speaker 5: It's not how you want to operate either's know who
- 16:34Speaker 5: you are.
- 16:34Speaker 6: You just I mean you go into way to do
- 16:38Speaker 6: well and to help and teach and improved footballers and
- 16:43Speaker 6: one games of football.
- 16:44Speaker 3: That's Jack. I sat time, looked in the eye.
- 16:45Speaker 4: I said to him, if you get my back because
- 16:47Speaker 4: I don't feel it. I'm feeling wee bits for it.
- 16:50Speaker 4: Have you twice?
- 16:50Speaker 5: I says to me.
- 16:51Speaker 4: They looked at me and went I after I have
- 16:53Speaker 4: says I'm no fucking feeling it. Tell me the new No,
- 16:57Speaker 4: I have so got away and he would he would
- 16:59Speaker 4: I would feel again. I bring them in a black tom.
- 17:02Speaker 4: I've ad gin before fucking look at me, nig because
- 17:04Speaker 4: I'm seeing things your limp math training was so fucking
- 17:07Speaker 4: HAPs and you and then you you're find for the Saturday.
- 17:10Speaker 4: Have you got my back or not?
- 17:11Speaker 6: I I.
- 17:13Speaker 3: Leave and he's got the joke right, It's like.
- 17:18Speaker 2: That's not for me, Manna, It's not.
- 17:21Speaker 1: It's the way the next question, so you would never
- 17:23Speaker 1: have a reconsidering him back end, No, you don't.
- 17:26Speaker 6: Feel it's a that's a hard one to start with.
- 17:31Speaker 6: I think because people there I mean we started. We
- 17:34Speaker 6: started Thistle. Although it was full time, it wasn't if
- 17:38Speaker 6: it was part of time wages.
- 17:40Speaker 5: It was all we get.
- 17:41Speaker 6: So what we did in that first bit with the
- 17:44Speaker 6: budget and everything else was got out. I want to
- 17:47Speaker 6: We looked at all the boys that have been released
- 17:50Speaker 6: for all the Premier League clubs.
- 17:52Speaker 5: Mostly he had Stephen o'donnal if your Celtic. So I
- 17:57Speaker 5: need to touch so.
- 17:59Speaker 6: Lawless Stevie Ollis for mother Well, Rose Forbes and mother Well.
- 18:05Speaker 6: I took about a couple of boys for university and
- 18:07Speaker 6: college football because that's all we could have four.
- 18:10Speaker 3: You know, I meant time and then did you enjoy it?
- 18:12Speaker 3: Enjoy the management side?
- 18:13Speaker 5: The first the first wee bit I did.
- 18:16Speaker 6: This was a constant fight because I was trying to
- 18:18Speaker 6: play football and I actually pinned up my wall, didn't.
- 18:22Speaker 6: It was a Jim Traynor's brother John Traynor in the
- 18:25Speaker 6: headline because we were pitch was murtherer with a rugby
- 18:29Speaker 6: and I but I wanted him to play and first
- 18:32Speaker 6: we bit so the first kind of bits coming through it.
- 18:36Speaker 6: It was the headline was beach bombing Samba Stars was
- 18:40Speaker 6: the boy's headline. John Trayner and I dug him up.
- 18:43Speaker 5: In the next But what's all right about it?
- 18:46Speaker 6: I don't write a headline, I says, yeah, but you're saying,
- 18:49Speaker 6: like these boys I'm trying to get let me do
- 18:51Speaker 6: things they can't do. I say, we ConTroll and pass
- 18:54Speaker 6: the ball every day and training, so they can't replicate
- 18:57Speaker 6: that on the pitch.
- 18:58Speaker 5: You can't pass the ball.
- 18:59Speaker 6: I don't want to see boys just smashing the bond
- 19:01Speaker 6: of corner on survivings, and they pointed, I wouldn't be
- 19:04Speaker 6: doing this. I want to try and prove them, get
- 19:06Speaker 6: me play a certain style that we want to watch
- 19:09Speaker 6: and get people to come. And then you fast forward,
- 19:13Speaker 6: you know, and they all start getting better. The football
- 19:16Speaker 6: is better. It's that's a football and playing team, right.
- 19:21Speaker 6: If you ask most fans at that point, you know
- 19:23Speaker 6: the football we played Steven Taylor sink Clark boys like that.
- 19:28Speaker 6: They came in from the Crows left back, was it yeah,
- 19:32Speaker 6: intros thinky. But they all went on and he got promotion.
- 19:37Speaker 6: You know, we left in the Janey. He got to United,
- 19:40Speaker 6: which which was another challenge in itself. We are the cuts,
- 19:45Speaker 6: but that's why he took us up there. And then
- 19:46Speaker 6: to take turn all that around. But you're you know,
- 19:51Speaker 6: the previous manager leaves because he couldn't deal with your cuts.
- 19:54Speaker 4: How did it come about you getting Andy Robertson. That's
- 19:56Speaker 4: what I'm interested in.
- 19:57Speaker 5: I actually try to get them. I was taking the party.
- 20:01Speaker 3: So how did you hear about them?
- 20:02Speaker 6: I've seen them play it against them, watched them, watched
- 20:06Speaker 6: them a few times, and maybe Skinny boy when he
- 20:09Speaker 6: left either he's up against sod in the game in
- 20:12Speaker 6: the League Cup at Hampden.
- 20:14Speaker 4: Just do you like me, stunny boys because you're a
- 20:16Speaker 4: skinny boy?
- 20:16Speaker 6: Ye?
- 20:17Speaker 4: Just that.
- 20:18Speaker 6: It's just desire, the skinny boys seeing the game, the
- 20:21Speaker 6: modern game, that thing is made more than anything now
- 20:25Speaker 6: because you see, like guys like Mada, they seell like fans.
- 20:30Speaker 6: They are technically sometimes no great, but fucking every game,
- 20:35Speaker 6: run run represent you as a person. She's a manager.
- 20:39Speaker 6: Somebody represent you first and nobody what. But that used
- 20:42Speaker 6: to be a given, a shift, you know, somebody giving
- 20:46Speaker 6: you everything there and chasing everything and fucking making every
- 20:50Speaker 6: every ball it's a bad ball, a good ball, and
- 20:53Speaker 6: that used to be a given. Now it's like, well,
- 20:55Speaker 6: that's a player of the year, you know, that's that's
- 20:59Speaker 6: the difference now in today's game, it's the thing he's
- 21:02Speaker 6: up there and the bits and surviving.
- 21:06Speaker 5: That's why I just did a little lot of player.
- 21:07Speaker 4: They're actually been a player, I think as Gards. That
- 21:10Speaker 4: for me a wee bit. I just look at them
- 21:13Speaker 4: and I think he's got a special moment in number.
- 21:16Speaker 4: It's few and far between.
- 21:17Speaker 3: For me, it was like a player with the big
- 21:20Speaker 3: legs and there he's got. It looks like he's he's
- 21:23Speaker 3: going to see it.
- 21:25Speaker 5: But then how do you get I'm angry.
- 21:27Speaker 6: You know, that's a couple of players there united and
- 21:31Speaker 6: I was just saying me, if you do get to
- 21:33Speaker 6: the next bit. I had to drop them GMS member
- 21:37Speaker 6: the first game against Partic, so reg and he comes
- 21:40Speaker 6: on the second half from Madge, but he's got the
- 21:44Speaker 6: fire and the belly.
- 21:44Speaker 5: That's I've got to drop you to get that fire
- 21:46Speaker 5: in here that should be.
- 21:48Speaker 6: I said, you want to got to Celtic, which he
- 21:50Speaker 6: did him and Stewart when they both do then left
- 21:52Speaker 6: to go.
- 21:53Speaker 5: I says, now you'll understand what I've been saying to you.
- 21:56Speaker 5: To get there on the sterea. That fire has to
- 21:59Speaker 5: be in every there's no one in five or you
- 22:02Speaker 5: know the one and three. I was quite good. Now
- 22:04Speaker 5: next game. You need to be on it every game
- 22:08Speaker 5: and that's what it takes to get.
- 22:10Speaker 4: If you could get that and players, the young players,
- 22:12Speaker 4: it would be worth its wit and gold, go for
- 22:15Speaker 4: a thought and getting that fire, and.
- 22:17Speaker 5: That's that they're dying breed me.
- 22:18Speaker 6: You know. That's why you say certain boys that we
- 22:21Speaker 6: know we look after, like Gannon dope, that's why I
- 22:24Speaker 6: love them, Like doesn't matter who's up against I'm going
- 22:26Speaker 6: to do.
- 22:27Speaker 5: I'm just going to take you. I'm going to get
- 22:28Speaker 5: at you. It's a throwback and it gets you off
- 22:31Speaker 5: your seat and go got on son, fucking get out,
- 22:34Speaker 5: you know. And I just that's why they're the kind
- 22:38Speaker 5: of players that excite me.
- 22:39Speaker 6: You know, no and a halfs that can take the
- 22:42Speaker 6: side and pass it back to the goalie and get
- 22:43Speaker 6: their clip it in there.
- 22:45Speaker 5: It's the ones that are going.
- 22:47Speaker 3: To go and you're that Scotland Matger, Scotland Matger, take it.
- 22:52Speaker 3: I would have a long time go no now.
- 22:57Speaker 4: Just at that end's going to doesn't it? I can't
- 22:59Speaker 4: think of one. Can did it? Like your stand up?
- 23:01Speaker 5: Can you no?
- 23:02Speaker 6: No?
- 23:02Speaker 1: No?
- 23:03Speaker 5: From here? Not from here. You know, that's easy in
- 23:07Speaker 5: it because it's it's I think you look at it.
- 23:12Speaker 6: Would be someone for him coming in, they would excite,
- 23:15Speaker 6: well something different again.
- 23:18Speaker 5: But the problem is how much they get.
- 23:20Speaker 6: To work with them because you know if you look
- 23:23Speaker 6: at the boy, but ask you how much if you
- 23:27Speaker 6: can how can much could he change that time? If
- 23:30Speaker 6: he's going to that you get the body and you
- 23:32Speaker 6: do that like two sessions. So it takes it takes
- 23:35Speaker 6: time to grow it. But there's so many things that
- 23:39Speaker 6: it needs change in our game.
- 23:42Speaker 5: You know.
- 23:42Speaker 2: That's where the of it as well. I'm talking about
- 23:46Speaker 2: the Spain players that have done it.
- 23:48Speaker 5: They come through.
- 23:49Speaker 1: There's there's an identity there and they all know what
- 23:51Speaker 1: they're doing. Do they get to that stage the technical really.
- 23:55Speaker 4: Have that and it kind of suits the culture as well.
- 23:57Speaker 4: Then I mean you maybe get back to what we
- 24:01Speaker 4: have we've been for years.
- 24:02Speaker 2: Weird.
- 24:03Speaker 6: It's we look, we try to look for athletes first
- 24:06Speaker 6: now before technical, you know, and then robots.
- 24:10Speaker 3: That Britton is as well as Scotland. That England it probably, but.
- 24:14Speaker 5: Then said the ones have come into England.
- 24:16Speaker 4: I still thought.
- 24:17Speaker 2: I still thought all the teams of the world couple
- 24:19Speaker 2: are stronger and quicker than us as well. They were.
- 24:22Speaker 1: But you looked at the teams, and I'm talking about
- 24:24Speaker 1: that Cape Verde, there was other so called small the
- 24:27Speaker 1: odd pace merchants.
- 24:29Speaker 4: The youth that I know we've like's only one.
- 24:32Speaker 1: Was the one that kind of puts defense on the
- 24:35Speaker 1: back foot because he can he can get there his pace.
- 24:38Speaker 4: But do you think when you're when you're playing fear
- 24:40Speaker 4: and you're apprehensive and you just wanted to get me end,
- 24:42Speaker 4: you look slower and you look weach are and you.
- 24:44Speaker 2: Looked mab maybe back we I did the game?
- 24:47Speaker 5: Was it the Brazil game?
- 24:48Speaker 2: In Morocco game? I did it? The Boyd tam Boyd
- 24:51Speaker 2: around the town.
- 24:52Speaker 1: Maybe it looks for money good enough for the hydro
- 24:55Speaker 1: And I said to Boyd that half time it was
- 24:57Speaker 1: a Moroccle game.
- 24:58Speaker 2: In fact, I says, what what is it? Defender? Do
- 25:00Speaker 2: you fear the most?
- 25:01Speaker 1: They says pace. It says, why do we get Dock
- 25:03Speaker 1: on the bench? Docks sitting on the bench here, get
- 25:05Speaker 1: them on because he's only one that has the real
- 25:08Speaker 1: threat card of the ball as well. But as you
- 25:11Speaker 1: look at all the other teams, and I'm talking about
- 25:13Speaker 1: the lesser teams is that they all had two or
- 25:14Speaker 1: three speed merchants that got their team up the pitch
- 25:17Speaker 1: and put that back line under pressure.
- 25:20Speaker 4: Don't seem no goat as a nation traditionally, as I
- 25:23Speaker 4: don't remember the last a Partfay.
- 25:24Speaker 5: Doc, there's not really anything of the rics.
- 25:29Speaker 4: Point was always playing him, even if it's half the front,
- 25:31Speaker 4: even if it's somewhere, just for that.
- 25:33Speaker 6: But you know what you started started to put well,
- 25:36Speaker 6: actually the bonus pre season there they moved them on
- 25:39Speaker 6: the left.
- 25:41Speaker 5: I once see once.
- 25:42Speaker 4: The goals start. How did he leave Celtic.
- 25:45Speaker 6: It was again at the time between the first team
- 25:50Speaker 6: and there. They put them in and brought him in.
- 25:53Speaker 6: He'd never seen him, put him into.
- 25:56Speaker 4: It, and you just this was his first year full
- 25:59Speaker 4: time lever.
- 26:01Speaker 6: Well. He was he just turned sixteen, but he thought
- 26:05Speaker 6: had been in there. But the kids trained Barrowfield, the
- 26:08Speaker 6: first teams Town Andrew have never seen him. He's like, Ben,
- 26:11Speaker 6: I had big things about you, and I was like,
- 26:13Speaker 6: he's the best young thing I've seen. You know, I
- 26:16Speaker 6: grew up obviously as a first team player. When Aidennidy
- 26:20Speaker 6: came through, I think he's I know, Edin was really
- 26:23Speaker 6: really technical, but it Ben's just what I'd seen. I
- 26:26Speaker 6: thought he's special. I don't come along very often. And
- 26:32Speaker 6: the B team in the first team, you know they
- 26:35Speaker 6: can worry was getting injured and the lone league, Yeah,
- 26:40Speaker 6: because you know yourself and these guys are part time
- 26:44Speaker 6: and the wee guys would make them look stupid and
- 26:47Speaker 6: they're running past him like they're not there.
- 26:49Speaker 4: So dance take Kimpy Barrowfield right to the first team.
- 26:51Speaker 6: Training first team and then he put them in the
- 26:54Speaker 6: bench begat. Then he came off against Rangers and they're like, what.
- 27:01Speaker 5: Do we do it to keep them?
- 27:02Speaker 6: I just keep him and show them that you'll not
- 27:04Speaker 6: just get them to sign a day and then put
- 27:06Speaker 6: them back down again because you lose them. And then
- 27:10Speaker 6: that weekend they were playing mother Well away for park
- 27:13Speaker 6: and and you said to him to then you can
- 27:16Speaker 6: go and play with it Scotland seventeens. That was it
- 27:21Speaker 6: came back. I mean, he's let them go rather than
- 27:23Speaker 6: keep them in the first team. And then they played
- 27:25Speaker 6: a couple of big team games and then he wouldn't.
- 27:28Speaker 6: It wasn't he didn't sign the contract and I told
- 27:30Speaker 6: them me go.
- 27:32Speaker 5: Basically did not to see him Jesus it.
- 27:35Speaker 4: Went to Liverpool. But I just wonder how low at
- 27:40Speaker 4: that is talented players, Scottish players. I just think there's
- 27:43Speaker 4: no one off opportunity for them.
- 27:44Speaker 5: I think every kid's different.
- 27:46Speaker 6: I think, and you know, if you when they stand them,
- 27:48Speaker 6: some kids at sixteen, at his age, you're only ready
- 27:51Speaker 6: physically m m. You know they might be ready mentally,
- 27:54Speaker 6: but physically, but he was. You know, I always compared
- 27:57Speaker 6: him like a Rooney at sixteen. But when you see kids,
- 28:00Speaker 6: I just said, there's one and I've not seen it
- 28:03Speaker 6: like them all my time at Celtics. Aidan's probably. I
- 28:06Speaker 6: know there are different types, but when.
- 28:09Speaker 4: You swinded and up, who was better at sixteen? Aiden
- 28:11Speaker 4: A dope.
- 28:14Speaker 5: Was I don't get wrong, dope.
- 28:17Speaker 2: On here sitting.
- 28:21Speaker 4: Listen. I'll call you here, aid I been what I've
- 28:25Speaker 4: done him before. I've done James Forrester him and he
- 28:27Speaker 4: will see it. Don't worry.
- 28:29Speaker 2: So you go back to your then.
- 28:31Speaker 1: Obviously I had an idea of your career passing my
- 28:35Speaker 1: head un told until we deal.
- 28:39Speaker 3: I'd love to hear about you your no, but I didn't.
- 28:41Speaker 2: I forgot.
- 28:42Speaker 3: I will be thinking I went to Celtic Tabertean.
- 28:43Speaker 4: When I was younger, I forgot Celtic.
- 28:45Speaker 2: And Wills and Eve went back to Celtic. So you've
- 28:49Speaker 2: come through the youth itself.
- 28:50Speaker 4: So I came through the youths I signed when I
- 28:52Speaker 4: was signed there. I started boys club when I was
- 28:55Speaker 4: ten until I was twelve, and then it was the
- 28:57Speaker 4: first under twelve team and I can't to me at
- 29:00Speaker 4: the time, and they took five or six points for
- 29:04Speaker 4: the boys Club to the core of the team when
- 29:05Speaker 4: I was part of that, and then they broke boys in.
- 29:07Speaker 4: They brought aid and and they brought boys for a
- 29:09Speaker 4: different places. We made the first on the twelve team
- 29:10Speaker 4: up come through there. At Celtic fifteen, I was close
- 29:14Speaker 4: to getting released and then Tommy Buns came in, took
- 29:16Speaker 4: over ahead academy for George Adams, and then basically Tommy buncaid,
- 29:21Speaker 4: I've got five games to earn my cell a contract,
- 29:25Speaker 4: and I went and had five really good games.
- 29:26Speaker 3: They earned mysel a two year deal. So got a
- 29:28Speaker 3: two year contract.
- 29:29Speaker 4: Buzzing went, went signed there, done my two years and
- 29:32Speaker 4: then I got offered another year. One of the talking
- 29:34Speaker 4: gesture years was let's see how he develops. This next year,
- 29:37Speaker 4: almost like hanging.
- 29:38Speaker 3: On for another year.
- 29:39Speaker 4: So I got a year and then I went to
- 29:41Speaker 4: the Jersey tournament and who man United Sporting Lisbon taught them.
- 29:46Speaker 4: Everybody was there my third year at eighteen's and I
- 29:49Speaker 4: went on to get like second to player the tournament.
- 29:51Speaker 4: We go to the final beatfoot ballcle Juniors one now
- 29:54Speaker 4: and I played really well and as soon as.
- 29:56Speaker 3: I come back.
- 29:57Speaker 4: This is the beauty of having an agent at the time.
- 29:59Speaker 4: I don't think I had an age at the time,
- 30:02Speaker 4: and an agent's Danny Jobe. I come back and Celtic
- 30:04Speaker 4: went I'd only signed a year a month before, not
- 30:07Speaker 4: from a three year deal. I was like, obviously, I
- 30:11Speaker 4: I never even clicked to go. But somebody that told
- 30:14Speaker 4: them had inquired about me, and this day I don't
- 30:16Speaker 4: know who it was, but he'd asked me.
- 30:17Speaker 3: Who I was, what the script is.
- 30:21Speaker 4: The one that got away? And then I am I
- 30:24Speaker 4: signed that three year deal? How long that that age?
- 30:27Speaker 4: My new The reserve team was even hard to get
- 30:30Speaker 4: into them because the boy didn't playing first team under
- 30:32Speaker 4: Martinel playing the reserve, so you'd like you're up againstvul
- 30:35Speaker 4: Harmond that sometime to get in the reserve to yeah,
- 30:39Speaker 4: and then I went wanted Unde United come back for them,
- 30:42Speaker 4: and I was like, right, it was two thousand and five.
- 30:44Speaker 4: Martini had left the constract I had come in two
- 30:45Speaker 4: thousand and six. Sorry, of course I had had any
- 30:47Speaker 4: second year and I'd been loan and they had done
- 30:50Speaker 4: well Dunde and eighted and I come back and done
- 30:53Speaker 4: pre season playing shares testimonial Keen's testimonial, And was trying
- 30:58Speaker 4: to break into the first team at Celtic and I
- 31:00Speaker 4: wasn't an idiot away for pre season and you just felt.
- 31:04Speaker 3: Like the manager.
- 31:05Speaker 4: Then they fully believe in you. Probably rightly smokes, I
- 31:08Speaker 4: probably wasn't ready.
- 31:09Speaker 6: And then.
- 31:11Speaker 3: I'm nine twenty twenty.
- 31:14Speaker 4: I played first team for six months and then I
- 31:17Speaker 4: see why I stay in that curve playing first team football.
- 31:20Speaker 4: And then the chance for Celtic to sign neither lee
- 31:24Speaker 4: Ella come up and made you go to the Wolves
- 31:26Speaker 4: is a part of the deal.
- 31:28Speaker 3: So it was twelve million.
- 31:31Speaker 4: Plus lee Ella for me to go to the Wolves,
- 31:35Speaker 4: be playing for me.
- 31:37Speaker 3: They paid six a grand from.
- 31:40Speaker 4: I played when he was as bad, I'll stopped paying
- 31:44Speaker 4: for me and then off forly that joke.
- 31:46Speaker 3: So I went down there Net obviously went to Wolves,
- 31:49Speaker 3: so went Goldens tracking.
- 31:52Speaker 4: He knew mc McCarthy fire Planet of the Fire, hard man,
- 31:58Speaker 4: no nonsense. But I swear by they who were mem
- 32:01Speaker 4: then turned me into somebody understood where it was to
- 32:05Speaker 4: be a professionalis I mean I remember going and playing
- 32:07Speaker 4: playing against Hall and Danny Mills was right back for
- 32:10Speaker 4: Holl was talking that's yesterday.
- 32:11Speaker 3: First one reason it's like a quick fire coon. Hey,
- 32:14Speaker 3: I get asked. Danny Mills just abused me for the
- 32:16Speaker 3: full forty five minutes.
- 32:18Speaker 4: But he seeing the tunnel, He's fucking shitting hisself point
- 32:22Speaker 4: and I'm hanging going. How does he know he can
- 32:25Speaker 4: see right through me? Anyway, I get tear a hal
- 32:27Speaker 4: half time. I'm sure you can own it left back
- 32:30Speaker 4: at Hull, I'm sure you can on a halftime. Mt
- 32:33Speaker 4: macarthy put you on and potentially or maybe you were
- 32:37Speaker 4: playing right back and it was clapping it come on. Anyway.
- 32:41Speaker 4: I had a bad field time there, but they failed.
- 32:44Speaker 4: It was like one of them where you learned a lot.
- 32:46Speaker 4: And then I went to South End on loan. So
- 32:49Speaker 4: South End on loan, came back to Wolves, signed for Aberdeen.
- 32:52Speaker 4: That scored against Carlile for South End, so Aberdeen signed
- 32:55Speaker 4: me and I went there. Actually you went through Wolves
- 32:57Speaker 4: to Abledeen, didn't you must have just had left who
- 32:59Speaker 4: came from me about way to Alveledean and they spent
- 33:04Speaker 4: two years there, then saying that after eighty Celtic are.
- 33:06Speaker 6: You joined auble range? After I left a site I
- 33:09Speaker 6: lasted eight months. I had signed a two year lasted
- 33:11Speaker 6: eight months.
- 33:12Speaker 4: I remember you leaving moved to go to Aberdeen. I
- 33:14Speaker 4: was sinking, lucky man, he's getting back up the road.
- 33:18Speaker 5: I wasn't lucky one.
- 33:19Speaker 6: There was a nightmare because that when I was leaving Wolves,
- 33:23Speaker 6: I had agreed or two year day to go to Sydney. See,
- 33:27Speaker 6: I was ready to go away Australia and the big
- 33:30Speaker 6: terry butcher was some hands and got sacked. So that
- 33:33Speaker 6: fell through and I was about to sign way for it.
- 33:37Speaker 6: Not in forest coming. I'm sure I went there, but
- 33:39Speaker 6: I wanted to get back up the road. The family
- 33:41Speaker 6: didn't settled down there. I remember the house had the
- 33:44Speaker 6: house back in Edinburgh and they moved back after a year,
- 33:47Speaker 6: so I thought right, I tried to get to Hobs
- 33:51Speaker 6: when they take his joy.
- 33:52Speaker 4: See, I've got a funny memory about you driving up
- 33:54Speaker 4: the road. It's my time house things stick made. You
- 33:57Speaker 4: know the song driving home. I used to play that
- 34:02Speaker 4: driving up the road and every time that comes on
- 34:03Speaker 4: now I think you drive.
- 34:04Speaker 3: Up to Wolves, remember it as a long drive.
- 34:08Speaker 6: When I murder, I mean I enjoyed, enjoy to be
- 34:11Speaker 6: back doing the first year was better, obviously, even though
- 34:14Speaker 6: I'd done my my a c l under Hoddle. But
- 34:17Speaker 6: Hoddle was Hoddle was good. I heard that it was
- 34:20Speaker 6: different in terms of the off the field, but on
- 34:23Speaker 6: the football stuff. He was way ahead age years.
- 34:26Speaker 5: Was Mick.
- 34:27Speaker 6: You know Mic is some New yorukction Mo and boxing
- 34:30Speaker 6: chain and all that and like no for me, but
- 34:34Speaker 6: I did. I came on the second bit with him
- 34:36Speaker 6: because I'd obviously been injured and I did play left
- 34:39Speaker 6: back under him.
- 34:41Speaker 5: Michael mckindough it was now Edinburgh manager Kara.
- 34:47Speaker 1: Yep many years was a different senced.
- 34:51Speaker 4: To come back. So I left when I was twenty
- 34:53Speaker 4: and I was back I was twenty four, twenty four.
- 34:56Speaker 5: That's right.
- 34:56Speaker 4: Better.
- 34:57Speaker 2: I quicked different guy.
- 34:59Speaker 3: Different guy.
- 34:59Speaker 4: I mean when I played the Wolves, when I first
- 35:01Speaker 4: come then to then to the guy that signed for
- 35:04Speaker 4: Aberdeen was a completely different character, changing back it Celtic
- 35:08Speaker 4: new Learning phone me in the March. I've done two
- 35:10Speaker 4: years that. Then I got a phone Coffee New when
- 35:13Speaker 4: the March number of dinner. When I went and answered
- 35:14Speaker 4: it in the Plethodre and they said, listen, don't don't
- 35:18Speaker 4: say it anywhere until you spoke to me in the summer.
- 35:20Speaker 3: We're interested.
- 35:21Speaker 4: I was. I said, I don't know if I'm getting
- 35:22Speaker 4: the job, but we'll see. He was intern at the time,
- 35:25Speaker 4: if you remember. He to go offrough Mowbray and he
- 35:27Speaker 4: had a good nine games or whatever. I'm watching every
- 35:29Speaker 4: game like desperate for me win. And then the summer came.
- 35:38Speaker 4: My agent was then looking at different teams. I went
- 35:40Speaker 4: to meet Sheffield United chef United had finished eighth in
- 35:43Speaker 4: the championship. Much more ready to go back down there,
- 35:46Speaker 4: I felt, I was. I was a lot more established
- 35:48Speaker 4: than maybe nearly one hundred games agents at that point.
- 35:53Speaker 4: Was Kevin Drinkle im before that I will not see
- 36:02Speaker 4: his name, but I don't need to. And the reason
- 36:05Speaker 4: ended up with Kevin Drinkle's because I had an agent
- 36:08Speaker 4: when I was at Wolves. He'd got who took me
- 36:10Speaker 4: to Wolves in that and then I was looking for
- 36:14Speaker 4: a loan move, and I was never a good time
- 36:15Speaker 4: at Wolves and my loan move was looking at League
- 36:18Speaker 4: onely two. What I've also says to him Alana was
- 36:21Speaker 4: pregnant at the time, and I says, can you get
- 36:25Speaker 4: me a Walsaw like it's just on the road, and
- 36:28Speaker 4: they'd phoned me in October. This was typical me when
- 36:30Speaker 4: he view training, fell asleep in the couch, but hoose
- 36:32Speaker 4: I stayed and had no phone signal and I woke up. Honestly,
- 36:36Speaker 4: I woke up at five past five or something. Gee,
- 36:39Speaker 4: So he stayed. I was like a big way and
- 36:40Speaker 4: he stay enviously trained sleep fossy blood times about three
- 36:43Speaker 4: or four, and I had it twenty miscals. I went
- 36:46Speaker 4: Macarthy was strong with him so inside and I phoned
- 36:49Speaker 4: them when I had a signal, he was like it
- 36:51Speaker 4: was gone nuts. Walsall tried to get me a emergency
- 36:54Speaker 4: alone Ontoba, but the window shut at five five o'clock that.
- 36:56Speaker 3: Night, five past five.
- 37:00Speaker 4: Honestly, so looking the I remember Mit m Cathy saying
- 37:03Speaker 4: to me it was almost I remember, I'm saying to me,
- 37:05Speaker 4: you you meant that, That's what it felt like to me.
- 37:08Speaker 4: But all I wanted was to go and play games.
- 37:11Speaker 3: That sums me up.
- 37:12Speaker 4: I fell asleep in the couch and I said, have
- 37:13Speaker 4: been sat at the training ground waiting for that window shut.
- 37:16Speaker 4: And I even know it was the last day anyway,
- 37:19Speaker 4: So I'd said to me at the time, could you
- 37:20Speaker 4: get me wal socks? They wanted October. He phoned me back.
- 37:23Speaker 4: He says, listen, you give me a favor and get
- 37:25Speaker 4: me Walsall's number. He said, I've got a page. I've
- 37:28Speaker 4: got a book with all the team's numbers in it,
- 37:31Speaker 4: and my W pages ripped it. I promise you, I
- 37:38Speaker 4: promise you. Like that's a lie, right, that's that's a
- 37:41Speaker 4: that's I went to let Joe what. I don't worry
- 37:44Speaker 4: about it. You're all good. So I hung the phone
- 37:46Speaker 4: up and I tell people, why don't believe me? Right?
- 37:50Speaker 3: I believe him?
- 37:51Speaker 5: Did you believe him?
- 37:52Speaker 3: The w page was no, No, didn't.
- 37:55Speaker 4: They And even if it was right, even if Doug
- 37:58Speaker 4: dits W page, get the mumble, that's year job, you know.
- 38:02Speaker 4: I was like, I said, that's fine, and I understood.
- 38:04Speaker 4: I was in the value, have the time and that's fine.
- 38:07Speaker 4: So ah, and then this other guy for me said,
- 38:10Speaker 4: would you go to South End. Stevie Hammill had just
- 38:12Speaker 4: left to go to morrow and this other guy phoned me,
- 38:16Speaker 4: called Scott Young, who's partner. Way, I says, I'll go
- 38:19Speaker 4: to South End. So for that moment I thought a
- 38:20Speaker 4: bit a lot towards him because he had actually got
- 38:22Speaker 4: and I went, I'll sign with him, A sign with him.
- 38:23Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 38:24Speaker 4: Anyway, it was Kevin Drinkle that I was on holiday
- 38:26Speaker 4: in Turkey. I'd met Sheffield Gated. He said, they need
- 38:29Speaker 4: an answer, Kevin Blackwell once and answer. They finished date's
- 38:31Speaker 4: in the championship. I thought they've got a chance then
- 38:33Speaker 4: all right next year and I went, you know what,
- 38:36Speaker 4: I'm glad that showed a wee bit of balls. I went,
- 38:40Speaker 4: you're a wee bit of apprehensive you I play get
- 38:42Speaker 4: a bit of don't to be Yeah, it's still have
- 38:44Speaker 4: a step in the mart. I like, you know what.
- 38:45Speaker 4: I'm phoning him. It's a phone Neil Lenning and it
- 38:48Speaker 4: just says it, am I I come about the same
- 38:52Speaker 4: chef generated they want an answer their pester. Maybe it's
- 38:54Speaker 4: something sniggling me inside, and he says, don't get it
- 38:57Speaker 4: so thin tours. Peter Love spoke to my agent and
- 39:02Speaker 4: it was done a Celtic. I was back to the pooling,
- 39:04Speaker 4: back to the pooling Turkey. Remember we boys to say,
- 39:08Speaker 4: I says the Alana says, say for Celtic. That's all
- 39:12Speaker 4: kind of kind of done. And I went back there
- 39:14Speaker 4: and it was although I couldn't be reviewed until a
- 39:19Speaker 4: decent name had come in the door and then underwhelmed
- 39:22Speaker 4: the fans by saying Charlie mcgrews signing the new lenin here.
- 39:26Speaker 4: But I was in the care that I had signed
- 39:27Speaker 4: the contract. I was just happy to be back and
- 39:29Speaker 4: it must.
- 39:29Speaker 1: Have been buzzing though, because you don't you don't get
- 39:32Speaker 1: the got opportunities to crack the Celtic.
- 39:35Speaker 2: I was a successful one for you as well.
- 39:39Speaker 4: I was so bad.
- 39:39Speaker 2: I was on personal levels, you win the team.
- 39:42Speaker 4: I was buzzing.
- 39:42Speaker 3: So when I went to I was lied to get
- 39:44Speaker 3: back up the road.
- 39:44Speaker 4: That's a great feeling to get back up and the
- 39:47Speaker 4: family and that although it's still two and a half
- 39:48Speaker 4: was away every second week, you're doing their own ya.
- 39:51Speaker 4: You feel like you're back up the road. To then
- 39:53Speaker 4: sign for Celtic, who had my team for being younger,
- 39:57Speaker 4: was to play for Celtic. You think that's maybe disappear
- 40:00Speaker 4: as you leave, and then it comes back for you.
- 40:01Speaker 4: Right in the premier career, who was.
- 40:03Speaker 2: Still in the death rooms from the time he'd been
- 40:04Speaker 2: there was a still boys.
- 40:05Speaker 4: There when I was first there. Oh mcghida was still there,
- 40:09Speaker 4: but he was He left a month or so later.
- 40:12Speaker 4: He saw me when of the all met this fubsy
- 40:13Speaker 4: go in the right direction. I'm out. Borich was still there.
- 40:18Speaker 4: He left obviously a couple of weeks late as well.
- 40:20Speaker 4: He'd done the same. He went to Fontinas. We were
- 40:21Speaker 4: flying somewhere. He got a phone call on the airport.
- 40:24Speaker 4: He left. Obviously Forest was there, but he was young,
- 40:29Speaker 4: but he'd have been really young when I was first there.
- 40:33Speaker 5: That was that a lot of the staff in twenty
- 40:36Speaker 5: twelve was your best season minute.
- 40:38Speaker 4: So then so I went back in twenty ten, summer
- 40:41Speaker 4: twenty eleven. So again people look at my careers and
- 40:45Speaker 4: and and go, oh, it's brilliant and everything's on the up,
- 40:49Speaker 4: and everything's success, and everything's they see the typical picture.
- 40:52Speaker 4: You see the type of iceberg, but the amount of
- 40:54Speaker 4: failures underneath it and the amount of times you need
- 40:56Speaker 4: he got up to gear. That's trying to get there,
- 40:58Speaker 4: go back to Celtic Kings and I have a bad start.
- 41:03Speaker 4: New Lennon phones me up and says, listen, I've got
- 41:05Speaker 4: your back, Like, don't worry, we believe in you. So
- 41:07Speaker 4: I trained my way back into the team and got
- 41:09Speaker 4: in the January and the team twenty ten eleven season
- 41:11Speaker 4: finished it strongly and I remember watching as a Gary
- 41:14Speaker 4: getting the Play of a Year sitting and ruining the
- 41:16Speaker 4: table the Player a Year awards and they played his
- 41:19Speaker 4: music and they played He's videoing on that, and I says,
- 41:21Speaker 4: I was thinking, ill, I'd love that to me next year.
- 41:25Speaker 4: And I was in the team. I was playing It's
- 41:26Speaker 4: less and a half started the season, was in the
- 41:28Speaker 4: team Kelvin Wilson. Levin's with the two cent and a half.
- 41:32Speaker 4: So right away you're like, right, you're fighting your way
- 41:33Speaker 4: in even though you've you've ended. Is it probably one
- 41:35Speaker 4: of the main set of a half? I know the
- 41:36Speaker 4: main one? And then as a Geary breaks his leg
- 41:40Speaker 4: up at Aberdeen and I get pulling it left back
- 41:42Speaker 4: against Peter Pollett, who I was at Aberdeen when I
- 41:45Speaker 4: know he's quick, and I was like, done well, gaining
- 41:48Speaker 4: confidence and that wee things that happened like I traveled
- 41:51Speaker 4: back don for Aberdeen when he used to play the
- 41:52Speaker 4: game back on the screen and the bus watching it
- 41:57Speaker 4: and if you'd been beating by Cananes, but if you'd won,
- 41:59Speaker 4: he would be compliments. And I would sit near the
- 42:01Speaker 4: front of the bus and b group as it would
- 42:02Speaker 4: sit in the front, the near the front, and he
- 42:05Speaker 4: was saying some nice things that we met some pieces
- 42:08Speaker 4: and he just took confidence for that and for that
- 42:10Speaker 4: moment in and have left the team. And I've got
- 42:13Speaker 4: all the plenty of years that year sports writers and
- 42:14Speaker 4: never I so mental phil phils are co coming back
- 42:18Speaker 4: to them.
- 42:19Speaker 3: Good good dressing room amazing because.
- 42:22Speaker 2: I've obviously been a baby a few years. And that
- 42:25Speaker 2: were you, the the joker and the one.
- 42:29Speaker 3: For asking me, I don't know it was me.
- 42:31Speaker 4: Scott Brown, Joel Ledley, Chris Commons with Paddy mccott, Matt
- 42:34Speaker 4: Wilson with a Corra Scottish British Gary Hooper, they Daryl
- 42:40Speaker 4: Murffay at the startway. I mean I could go through
- 42:42Speaker 4: them all, but would I don't want to miss him
- 42:44Speaker 4: do it. But with such a great good group in
- 42:46Speaker 4: the January sign Luistic Adam Matthews is James Forrest is
- 42:51Speaker 4: in the in the building there at the time. Calm
- 42:56Speaker 4: is a young boy. He's he's nowhere near at this point.
- 42:58Speaker 4: He might be a loan.
- 43:00Speaker 2: Because when we came through, I was fortunate enough.
- 43:02Speaker 1: We but we had a good dress room for a
- 43:06Speaker 1: probably the last two or three years of my time
- 43:08Speaker 1: at Celtic. But I've seen that when I got away
- 43:09Speaker 1: with you guys. I'm a wee bit older than news,
- 43:11Speaker 1: but I can see the chemistry. But yes, he's all
- 43:13Speaker 1: got one bell with I can envisage that dressing room
- 43:16Speaker 1: being a good.
- 43:17Speaker 5: Way to dressing them and all.
- 43:19Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, that must have been tough for young kids.
- 43:23Speaker 4: I love that. Man, Well, it was tough, but I
- 43:25Speaker 4: loved it because my heroes.
- 43:27Speaker 3: So it was like to just be able to clean
- 43:28Speaker 3: your books and take take abuse for you. It was
- 43:31Speaker 3: an honor.
- 43:32Speaker 4: So I mean, that's it's mental, but that's that's that's
- 43:34Speaker 4: how I felt. So it was brilliant. I had to
- 43:38Speaker 4: be involved in it and amongst that, and i'd go
- 43:40Speaker 4: back and I remember end of the season, but we've
- 43:43Speaker 4: got all your gear, so your gear you should love
- 43:45Speaker 4: for the full season. I would take about ten bin
- 43:47Speaker 4: bags back to the house and dish the book to
- 43:50Speaker 4: family and.
- 43:51Speaker 3: People are thinking about len it's to me.
- 43:56Speaker 5: People then.
- 43:58Speaker 4: Oh midget no, but to sign back and get an opportunity.
- 44:02Speaker 4: It was I can imagine amazing.
- 44:05Speaker 6: So now you're doing the golf in your podcast. So
- 44:08Speaker 6: we were talking about before you came in there.
- 44:10Speaker 1: Well, first of all, First of all, it was a
- 44:14Speaker 1: no shown. It was just after your holiday, so we
- 44:19Speaker 1: were teeing off it quarters past four.
- 44:22Speaker 2: I've woke up at one o'clock said I'm not going
- 44:24Speaker 2: to make.
- 44:25Speaker 4: Us just back for my holiday, Just get in my bed.
