- 0:14Welcome into the Treehouse Football Podcast. If my counting serves me correctly, this
- 0:23would be Treehouse Football Podcast number four, one, two, three, yeah,
- 0:29four. We're up to four now, gentlemen. Congratulations, Yeah we
- 0:33made it. Yeah one said we wouldn't, and here we are. It
- 0:43was a big, big weekend or North Texas Sports, obviously mainly discussing the
- 0:51Dallas Cowboys shellacking of the vaunted New England Patriots. Turns out, so far
- 1:00into this early season, the Cowboys will either kick the ship out of you
- 1:04or let you kick the ship out of them, so at least there's not
- 1:08a whole lot of middle ground so far this season. It's either or.
- 1:11There is really only one thing I know for certain at this point in this
- 1:18football season, and that's it. Chicago Bears are absolute garbage. I mean
- 1:25that's really yeah. Yeah, that right there is one of those. Is
- 1:29another one of those hot takes that this year football podcast is known for.
- 1:33All right, good, okay, I wasn't. I'm not the only one
- 1:36that, by episode four is only the only one that's been slow clapped.
- 1:41Yes, thank you, that was medium clap. That was a medium clap.
- 1:45I'll tell I'll till I'll still take it. You're in the middle of
- 1:48it, you're rushed, You're in the middle of a tropical storm. So
- 1:52that's a slow clap. If it wasn't flooding, they got them on the
- 1:57side of a mountain. Is a small river flowing down the past my driveway.
- 2:06So not only is Philippe kind of a dick because he's French, he's
- 2:09also a dick because he's just sitting around on top of my house out here
- 2:14in the Caribbean. But don't worry about me. I'll be fine. Yeah.
- 2:19It was interesting, man. It was the first time with this Cowboys
- 2:22game because it was Belichick's largest defeat in history. It's the first time I've
- 2:25ever heard people talking about how his job was in danger because of just how
- 2:30bad they look. And I never thought people need to stop that they really
- 2:36do this. It is a very rare thing in the NFL period. Historically,
- 2:43there's only a handful of examples where coaches were able to hang onto their
- 2:46jobs for as long as they wanted them. And it's damn near impossible by
- 2:51today's NFL standards to hang onto your job as a head coach for as long
- 2:53as you want it. Bill Belichick is one of those very few who has
- 2:58earned it. And I'm pretty sure by Craft would agree. It's hard for
- 3:01me to fathom someday Bob Kraft saying, you know what, I'm done with
- 3:07you, I mean his I mean Belichick's girl did it like, I mean,
- 3:10she's like, I'm done with you, and that now you know,
- 3:14that's what you know? That's well she leaves, hey, and then the
- 3:17team confidence leaves like, I don't know what, Like he's given it to
- 3:22Bob Craft far better than he ever did to his girlfriend. Well, I
- 3:27mean, no, no, that's a very that's a very strong statement,
- 3:30because Bob likes to go to the Rubin tugs and so I don't know.
- 3:35And maybe the reason why is because he's not getting it good enough from from
- 3:38from old Belichick. So maybe you're right there, Roj. That's what I'm
- 3:42saying, man. And he's like, hey, man, if you're gonna,
- 3:44if you're gonna let me down on the field, you better step it
- 3:46up in here. And he's like, hey, man, if you if
- 3:47we're not if we're not getting wins and we're not getting o's, they're they're
- 3:52both kind of in the same boat. They lost their their favorite wingman,
- 3:58and they're realizing that Max's not the it's not going to do it, so
- 4:02they'll stay around. They asked him nicely. I think he was on double
- 4:10secret probation and just failed. Anyway, let's backtrack. It's good to be
- 4:16a Cowboys fan right now ish, and it's a bad time to be a
- 4:20Bears fan. I'm not sure who I feel sorry or for right now,
- 4:26Bears fans or Justin Fields personally, but there's nothing we can do about that
- 4:30in this Yere Treehouse Football podcast. So let's go back to focusing on what
- 4:34the Cowboys are able to do against the Patriots, which was a visibly distraught
- 4:39Bill Belichick by did you guys see it? They? I think they showed
- 4:43it a couple of times where he's just rubbing his face. Oh God,
- 4:46I don't want to be here. Yeah. I think the difference was from
- 4:53the week before with at Arizona was Trayvon Diggs had gone out, and I
- 4:59think the whole team was like, like, maybe subconsciously, maybe consciously,
- 5:02we're like, you know what, we don't have him there, so are
- 5:05we vulnerable on defense? In the defensive backfield. I think when Bland stepped
- 5:11up this week. It was like, Okay, we can we can play
- 5:15as hard as we want to now because we have somebody. I'm not saying
- 5:18he's as good. I mean, that was a great debut for that guy,
- 5:23phenomenal. I'm not saying, excuse me, as good as Treyvon Diggs.
- 5:27But I think they're now confident, like, okay, we got we
- 5:30got that covered, so we're good, We're good to go. And I
- 5:34think they played like that. There was a sigh of relief that they have
- 5:40him back there now, and then they played all out because a thirty five
- 5:44point defeat has never happened in the history of Bill Belichick's career. I think
- 5:48it's important to point out also that you now have when you look at who
- 5:53has scored touchdowns for the Cowboys so far this season, you have defensive guys
- 5:57that have more touchdowns than offensive guys, which makes for a fun locker room.
- 6:02And I think what may have happened is you may be you may be
- 6:05circling on something there Raj that they lost Trayvon Diggs a few days before the
- 6:10game in Arizona. Maybe that affected them, whether it was game planning or
- 6:14whatever, it was a mental state can't really speak to that. That's on
- 6:16that's that's an inside thing there. They would of course say, no,
- 6:20it didn't. But however, when you get an additional week to plan for
- 6:26his absence and those guys behind him get more reps in practice, then maybe
- 6:30that's part of the reason Deron Bland had such a big game and the defense
- 6:33felt a little more confident. It also helps when you know you you just
- 6:38kind of play good all the way around and not lay a turd in the
- 6:43middle of the desert. And I also want to, you know, give
- 6:46credit to Vandoresh for scoring a touchdown before he gets injured at some point,
- 6:49because he did you have the same thought I did, because he only he
- 6:54only had like he only had like seven or eight yards between when he scooped
- 6:58that ball to get to the end zone, afraid that something would get him
- 7:01in those seven or eight yards. As soon as he crosses the end zone,
- 7:04he starts reaching fred his hammy or something that I was worried he was
- 7:11gonna start doing some celebration dance and then all of a sudden that hammy was
- 7:14gonna pope. He goes to he goes into his wolf hallet. He just
- 7:17breaks his entire spine. Yeah. I was when when when the when the
- 7:21ball spike, I was like, check his shoulder, somebody check his shoulder.
- 7:25He's out. He's out for the season. He's out for He pulled
- 7:28a Martine gramatica the field goal win and touring his he l it is.
- 7:33It is an interesting tradition so far in recent years, the white linebackers of
- 7:40the Cowboys seem to be made of glass. Between Van Dersh and Sean Lee,
- 7:46both very good players, and Sean Lee, if it wasn't for injuries,
- 7:49might be uh, you know, steamrolling into the Ring of Honor,
- 7:54maybe even you know, a Hall of Fame type of thing. Yeah,
- 7:57Whereas you get teams like the Steelers where their linebacking uh cores is scary.
- 8:03So there's been a shift from the old linebackers of the Cowboys day, you
- 8:09know, in the Cowboys history, to today where it's like, man,
- 8:11you just got to keep them in a bubble. Yeah, I just you
- 8:16know, when you're when your last name is vander Esh like, I don't
- 8:20know, I'm like, who put you up to this? Who wanted?
- 8:24Who wanted? Whose dreams are you fulfilling? Why are you messing with Layton's
- 8:28last name? To me, his first name is wimper. But yeah,
- 8:33but then you combined the whole thing and it's like, yeah, he says
- 8:35his name and something gets torn, Like that's that's like he just tears his
- 8:41throat and he's out for the season again. Yeah. I was. When
- 8:50I saw him scoop up the ball, was like, slow, slow,
- 8:54slow down, buddy, Just you're there, You're there, nobody's behind you.
- 8:58And then he went up and he went to spike that ball. I
- 9:01was like, hey, yeah, he's gonna f something up right now.
- 9:03And then he ran off the field and then he played it great for the
- 9:07rest of the game. I was like, all right, I'm just waiting
- 9:07for the news to come out. Like you know what it was he adrenaline.
- 9:11He didn't realize that he had lost an arm. Uh. After the
- 9:16celebration, we saw it on the field. We didn't know whose it was.
- 9:20We picked it up, we assumed it was his, and we kept
- 9:24just put it on ice in the blue tint. But I mean, how
- 9:28clutch. I mean, let's just I mean, how fun is it to
- 9:31watch ceedee lamb Like that is just he's just so much fun to watch,
- 9:37and he's you know what, I'm really glad you brought him up because who
- 9:41I'm actually very finally excited for is Michael Gallup. Yeah, and not just
- 9:46because he's coming off that knee injury last year, but because for so much
- 9:50of his career they've basically just said all right, you go along. And
- 9:54I've heard before because it wasn't like he didn't he didn't understand, or he
- 10:01didn't know the playbook or the plays well enough, or he wasn't good at
- 10:03certain routes, so he had to improve on running you know, all the
- 10:07other routes that are available besides the all right, just go deep. But
- 10:11that for so long seemed like that's all they used him for. Lately,
- 10:16though, they've been using him in uh, in space and he's a physical
- 10:20receiver, yeah, like Ceedee lamb Is. You know, he's more of
- 10:24the speed and shifty guy, whereas Michael Gallop, he's he can make you
- 10:28miss, but he also just run your ass over. So I've actually enjoyed
- 10:31them putting the ball in his hands in space and watching him do things with
- 10:35it, as opposed to just all right, Michael, you just you just
- 10:37go along, Yeah, I mean Gallup was more of a like a brute
- 10:39force. And then you got Ceedel Lamb, who's like finesse. He's like
- 10:43fun, like he's the fun guy to watch, like you like when you
- 10:46know, like it's like Jerry Rice, like it was fun to watch Montana
- 10:48and Rice like when that ball was in the area, like, Okay,
- 10:52he's got it unless something bizarre happens, like he would catch things that you
- 10:56don't think you can catch. And Ceedee Lamb reminds me of that where it's
- 11:01like it's in the air and you're like, ah, he's got it,
- 11:03and then he comes down with it and he just looks. He looks around
- 11:05like what y'all think I wasn't gonna get it. I got it. Like
- 11:09that's how we like. That's how he like tosses the ball back to the
- 11:13rets like this is yours. I had it for a second, like you
- 11:16know what I mean. And that's kind of it's fun to overall the great
- 11:20man that it's a great feeling. I mean, if you had said at
- 11:24the beginning of the year, the Cowboys will be off to a three and
- 11:28one start, we all would have said, I'll take it. Yeah,
- 11:31However, once you learned that one loss was against a winless Arizona team,
- 11:35You're like, yeah, four and oh but I think that's also the life
- 11:41of a Cowboys fan, is you always have higher expectations. Yeah, but
- 11:43didn't it. I mean, your two blowout wins are we're so much fueled
- 11:48by defense, you know, I mean your offense offense is still so sketchy.
- 11:54It is, and it's it is something that the Cowboys have to contend
- 11:58with the fact that the the Cowboys defense has a better red zone scoring percentage
- 12:03than the offense does. Yeah, but hopefully they'll get that figured out.
- 12:11Yeah, They've got time. And I think for the most part, everyone's
- 12:13fairly healthy. So I think it's uh, oh, well that was weird.
- 12:18Uh that a phone call? Okay, did you did you see it
- 12:24light up? And then before the full ring happened you silenced it? That
- 12:28was that was lightning fast cat like I have, I have ceedee lamb like
- 12:33reflexes. He's piloting the millennium falcon. Uh. Yeah, I think they're
- 12:43I think they're, you know, fairly healthy as far as the offense goes,
- 12:46and I think that takes time over week by week and they've had that
- 12:50time, They've had time to get everybody on that side healthy, and they've
- 12:52got nothing as far as the debut, seeing that if you play all out
- 12:56like that every week, I think the the debut of Trump Bland, I
- 13:01think that's I mean, I think they can have some confidence and rest kind
- 13:03of easy that they got that side of the game figured out. So Yeah.
- 13:09The on the downside, though, is not everything on the offensive side
- 13:11is healthy because Tyron Smith is now injured, which I mean, I'm not
- 13:16really that surprised. I don't think anyone is. And there's a reason.
- 13:20There's a reason why they've made changes that they have, because they've been planning
- 13:22for him not to you know, go through a full season and it's and
- 13:26it's it's sad when those things happen, but it's also not surprising. As
- 13:30someone that's been left tackle in the league for a long time, I'm surprised
- 13:33you can still walk at all. Yeah, but you know, it is
- 13:39an interesting thing, Raj, because you brought up, you know, the
- 13:41old school forty nine ers, and that leads us into the matchup this week,
- 13:45which is the big test early on in the season. Is Yeah,
- 13:48you know, three and one Cowboys undefeated forty nine ers at San Francisco,
- 13:54and you know during the game they're going to be playing all the old montages
- 13:58from the nineties of this Steve Young forty nine Ers and the Akman Cowboys going
- 14:03head to head in playoff games and title games, and you know, the
- 14:05road to the Super Bowl went through those two teams for so many years,
- 14:09and now maybe, just maybe it might happen again instead of in the divisional
- 14:15round where they keep kicking the crap out of us. Yeah, and hang
- 14:20on and all of that in the you know ninety See, you don't think
- 14:22they're gonna you know, you don't think you'll see the catch at least one
- 14:26hundred times. Yes, it's better enough as a Cowboys fan to be sick
- 14:31of the catch for this, for the catch's sake, just just for what
- 14:33it meant in that one damn game. But the fact that you then have
- 14:37to be subjected to it for the rest of your living life is unnecessary.
- 14:45Unless they unless they handle a win, then they won't show that. Then
- 14:48we'll be like, oh, you know, they've overcome that. Whatever they
- 14:52just optics wise, I don't think they would. But the I mean the
- 14:56the the guy who had the game of the week last week is Christian mccaff
- 15:00I mean, you gotta, you gotta, you gotta shut him down completely.
- 15:05And I don't know how you do it. I don't know what the
- 15:07game plan is, but that guy is just the real deal when it comes
- 15:11to San Francisco. I mean he basically between him and brod Perty they won't.
- 15:16Those two won that game last week for those guys. So if we
- 15:20can, if you can, if you can, shut him down, and
- 15:22I don't care if you have to have ninety the defense just on that one
- 15:26guy. I don't know what you do. I'm not I'm not there calling
- 15:30the place. I'm not trying to figure out strategy. I'm just saying,
- 15:33if somebody's got a a club and doesn't mind going to prison, I'm just
- 15:37saying, if we can, you know, if we can, I guess
- 15:43I I guess. Yeah. You could pull a Tanya Harding, or you
- 15:48call up one of those phone numbers in the back of a in the back
- 15:50of a magazine somewhere to yeah, have someone do it for you, whatever
- 15:54it is. Yeah, wherever wherever you find hit Man. I don't know
- 15:58how it goes Uh, or you guys are white. Where do you find
- 16:03it? Man? Uh, come on, that's not fair. I watch
- 16:07a lot of investigation Discovery, It's very fair. I don't know about it
- 16:15then, But because of Trey's affection for crazy women, I guarantee you he
- 16:19knows chicks. Just just just yeah, just just tell one of your crazy
- 16:25exs that you now play for San Francisco and your name is Christian Mcca and
- 16:30you'll be at this particular location at this particular time, ice skating around as
- 16:36Trey calls up every single Tanya Harding in his little Black book to come get
- 16:41him. Probably just called Tanya Hearty. She's not doing anything. Maybe cheap
- 16:49too, Yeah, you probably get her on cameo. All right. So,
- 16:59speaking of uh going back Cowboys against forty nine Ers. So the media
- 17:03has been chewing up, has been chewing up that storyline all week because of
- 17:07the recent woes the Cowboys have had against the forty nine Ers in the playoffs.
- 17:11So they decided to instead of let the Cowboys and Dak Prescott enjoy the
- 17:17win over the Patriots at home last week. Yeah, they decided to then
- 17:22ask Dak in the post game about the lead up to the forty nine ers
- 17:26rematch, Dak, what was the film leaving that locker in last January against
- 17:33those guys. At this point Dak starts to answer, he looks, he
- 17:40looks back down towards the middle of the room, and then he cocks his
- 17:45head back to the right towards that reporter with the face of you serious.
- 17:51Yeah. Yeah, but it's not very often you see that killer look from
- 17:56Dak out, you know, off the field. But that's intimidating. Yeah,
- 18:03I love it. I didn't know because I saw, I didn't know
- 18:07where it was like. When he thought thought about his answer, I'm like,
- 18:11where is this gonna go? Well, let's find out. Yeah,
- 18:15I mean it's obvious. I mean we're so far past that, to be
- 18:18honest with you, but that's obvious. I mean, you just want to
- 18:22piss me off going to this weekend. I appreciate that. I do,
- 18:23Actually I do, so Trey knows from dealing with crazy women. Yeah,
- 18:30when they look at you with that look in their eyes and they tell you,
- 18:33I appreciate you doing this for me. I don't care what you're wearing,
- 18:41what you're not wearing. You do not stop and grab anything you run,
- 18:45run. Yeah, you don't stop running, and you do not look
- 18:49back because she'll be there. And if you're this reporter, you don't look
- 18:56back because Dak will be there, apparently, but that lets you know how
- 19:00well they're doing when that's the only question you can come up with is well,
- 19:06what about last January? And like, hey, how about we enjoy
- 19:08this moment? How about it? Also? And also to point out last
- 19:11January's last January, they're a different, somewhat different team this year. We're
- 19:17a somewhat different team this year. Although to be fair, the forty nine
- 19:22ers actually look better right now than they did last January. Let's get back
- 19:27to what Dak had to say about the reporter. You just want to piss
- 19:33me off going to this weekend. I appreciate that. I do, Actually
- 19:34I do. Yeah, I appreciate that. Appreciate that lost drive. You
- 19:40guys, I mean every day, every day, every day time, every
- 19:45day. And then he shifts to the smile and the laugh, like,
- 19:48Okay, yeah, I've been in situations in my stand up where I've had,
- 19:53you know, a predominantly black audience and I've picked on a guy a
- 19:56little too long. I get that, Like, oh, it's cool,
- 20:00man, keep going, it's cool, keep going. And I'm like,
- 20:03oh, he doesn't mean keep going, he means stop right damn now before
- 20:07I punch you in your face. And I'm like, oh man, we're
- 20:11good. I was just kidding, man, we're good. And then this
- 20:14smile happens, like not mag you're fine. I'm like, okay, we're
- 20:15good. Now. Now now we're good. He's smiling. Uh, And
- 20:18I'm gonna move on and I'll never talk to that person again. And usually
- 20:22they'll come up afterwards and like that was good man. I was like,
- 20:25I appreciate not murdering me, thank you. So yeah, I've witnessed that
- 20:32look firsthand. And for that reporter, I'm sure he was just like please,
- 20:36we're they're filming this show, some show, some yeah. Well yeah.
- 20:41I think I think he found a little bit of solace in the fact
- 20:44that he was surrounded by people. So there's safety in numbers, and you
- 20:47know, there's also a number of cameras and things recording devices in general.
- 20:52However, I think you need to be careful when you make fun of a
- 20:55grown NFL player who's wearing a suit from the way, sup. Yeah,
- 21:00but no longer are suit pants the norm now they just wear shorts or suit
- 21:11shorts that match the jacket. Yeah, and that's it. That's it.
- 21:17Yeah, that's a confident look. I mean, because you know someone's gonna
- 21:22say something, or you want somebody to say something about your suit shorts.
- 21:26That's why it's NFL players that and some NBA players that wear it, because
- 21:32only professional athletes can get can wear that. When everybody goes, oh,
- 21:36that looks good, deep down you want to make fun of it, but
- 21:38you're like, what are the odds of them whooping my ass? And you're
- 21:41like, man, that's pretty good. Let's compliment. I've actually thought about
- 21:47buying one of those and sending it to Trey. He just looks looked like
- 21:53one of those kids from the nineteen twenties outside of a school. That's his
- 22:00year book photo from from nineteen twenty six. No thought, sorry, try,
- 22:08I thought, looks like you're about to say something that I couldn't tell
- 22:11if your screen locked up or you did. I did. Well, let's
- 22:17hope it's limited to just you and not the Cowboys against the forty nine ers
- 22:19this week. Yeah. I don't like I, none of us. Let's
- 22:25just be honest, none of us can pull that suit look off. I've
- 22:27seen a few. I've seen it like Lebron pulls it off because he's Lebron.
- 22:33Uh, and nobody's gonna say anything to him. Look, you can
- 22:34accomplish great things with enough money, and then that includes buying people around you
- 22:40not to tell you how stupid you look. Yeah, and I just and
- 22:44hats off to the maker of that or the designer of that combination because they
- 22:48went in like, you know what, someone is gonna wear this well,
- 22:52not only that it's it's brilliant because they're charging more for less material. Had
- 22:59There's the most any thing you've ever said. Let's call it like I said,
- 23:07you listening to the Treehouse. Visit us online, that Treehouse on air
- 23:12dot com. You're listening to the Treehouse. Visit us online, that Treehouse
- 23:37on air dot com. You are back in the Treehouse Football Podcast. I'm
- 23:45Daniel Maling along with Trede Trenholm and Raj Sharma. Now that we have covered
- 23:52the Cowboys forty nine ers very minimally, let's move on to the next big
- 23:56matchup this weekend. I'm speaking, of course, about our very own trade
- 24:03trend Holmes Longhorns going up against the Sooners of Oklahoma. Yeah, this would
- 24:11be one of those great times where if I really wanted to fabricate some conflict
- 24:15inside the treehouse, I could say, you know what, I was born
- 24:19in Oklahoma. Some people think I've moved back as opposed to living on a
- 24:25Caribbean island. That's not true, but whatever. Most people don't willingly move
- 24:29back to Oklahoma. In fact, I don't think I know anyone that ever
- 24:32has. So if I wanted to, I could say I was born in
- 24:36Oklahoma, and I'm a Sooner till I die and f those Horns. And
- 24:40but I really don't give a damn except I do love this game because it
- 24:48is one of the all time great college football matchups. Every single year,
- 24:52it doesn't typically matter what the rankings are for either team. It's you just
- 24:57have no idea, roll all the expectations, what you think should happen out
- 25:02the window, and you just sit back and just watch two schools play each
- 25:04other that absolutely hate each other's guts. Yeah, and and and it's such
- 25:10a cool, uh visually when you look at the Cotton Bowl and it's half
- 25:15of orange, half red, and it's such so much fun, and this
- 25:18it just has all the ear markings of just breaking my heart. And that's
- 25:22why I am just a nervous wreck this week because any time, I mean
- 25:26especially, I mean it seems like most years, oh you has the momentum
- 25:32and even if we're both ranked and whatever, both but this year with Texas
- 25:36has like a little more momentum and they're higher ranked. It's like this is
- 25:40when Texas just usually guts me. And so I'm I'm looking forward to the
- 25:45game, but man, I am so nervous because I just it has all
- 25:49the everything in the history of Texas just of being just a huge letdown,
- 25:53and I'm gonna be crying. It's a good thing that it It's a good
- 26:00thing that the Cotton Bowl doesn't have a roof, because your anxiety would be
- 26:03going through it. Yes, are you going to the game? Probably not?
- 26:08Okay, probably end up having to work. Oh gosh, I was.
- 26:11I just thought you were that nervous, like you couldn't Well, it's
- 26:15not just nerves on his part. If Tray was actually go to the game
- 26:18and and Texas was to let him down in the way that he is so
- 26:22fearful, then there'd be more red in the stands, but not from the
- 26:26ou Crimson. Yeah, you know, and again going back to just looking
- 26:32good? Uh u two? Does you two looks really really good? Every
- 26:37game I've watched this year so far, so good man? They oh time
- 26:40out. I'm not. I'm not, I'm not. I'm not saying.
- 26:44The last time you said they look really good, Yeah, it was about
- 26:48the Cowboys and then like four dudes got hurt, including Trayvon Diggs for the
- 26:52year. So are you are you putting are you putting that your hex on
- 26:56on Trey's longhorns? No, I'm just saying, oh, you looks good,
- 27:00and let's yeah, I said, oh you look actually yeah, let
- 27:06him say, oh you looks great. Yeah, that's what I'm fine.
- 27:07What do you What did you guys think I was talking about? Oh you
- 27:10looks fantastic. And I think they're gonna everybody's gonna stay healthy throughout the entire
- 27:14game and nobody's gonna go down with a massive injury. That's that's my prediction
- 27:18for the Oklahoma Sooners. Trey, how do you feel about going to the
- 27:22game now? Much better? So, at least if you go to the
- 27:29game right now, your expectations are to have a happy cordy dog afterwards,
- 27:33as opposed to a sad Yeah. I you know, I've always That's why,
- 27:37you know, when out of high school, I applied to UT and
- 27:41uh, you know I got in. I missed, I missed, uh
- 27:45registering for classes by an hour because of the grid. It's so weird to
- 27:48follow, but they don't let you have to wait till the next semester.
- 27:52So I ended up going to Southwest with the idea of transferring over just because
- 27:55of like watching growing up watching UT football and seeing that that pageantry in that
- 28:02and that uh and that rivalry and and the team spirit. And then I
- 28:06went to Southwest and when you're like seeing the stadium is half red and half
- 28:10orange, and I'm like seeing a stadium that's like the one half has you
- 28:14know, four people in it and the other half. Uh. You know
- 28:18our vagrants that wandered in, just the homeless from Austin. They didn't have
- 28:21anywhere to go. Uh. And then no, no, no, it's
- 28:25not that they didn't have anywhere else to go. It's because Austin busted them
- 28:27to you for the weekend so they wouldn't bother all the Longhorn fans and and
- 28:33and I'm curious about this because I've never really been to the Southwest Texas campus
- 28:37and what is now Texas State. But from all the stories I've heard throughout
- 28:41the years, not just from the uage, but from anybody that's ever been
- 28:44there or attended school there, it's not that Texas State or Southwest Texas doesn't
- 28:49have its own pageantry and traditions. They're just very different than the ones to
- 28:55its big brother to the north. Yes, very very different. You guys
- 29:00like Longhorns have a long pedigree of successful football and athletics, whereas Southwest Texas
- 29:07has a pedigree of its own chlamydia stream yes, which which somebody and a
- 29:11listener actually posted h to my page. It was like, you know what,
- 29:15I went to Southwest Texas and he's like, I was really good at
- 29:19talking to women and he got chamydia twice in the same semester. So I
- 29:25think he's in our ring of honor or in some sort of or some or
- 29:29he had ringworm of honor. I don't know what. I don't know what
- 29:30happened, but it's more of a circle of chlamydia. Yeah. He I
- 29:37was like, man, I was like, you are a legend. We've
- 29:38heard about you on campus like two time. Committee dude, Yeah we got
- 29:41you. Uh but like yeah, but you see, you see all this
- 29:45this great stuff and now you know Texas State is now. They're like I
- 29:49remember going back the first time years and years and years ago and seeing like
- 29:53the kids on campus wearing like Texas State shirts like with the because they changed
- 29:59the logo on it, and people were walking around. I'm like, what
- 30:03is this bolt of school pride? What is happening right now? We do
- 30:08not do this? Uh? What is this thing about going to class?
- 30:14Yeah? What is what are you guys graduating? What are you talking about?
- 30:18That's all this that is not the point of this university. There's a
- 30:22river, let's go float it and let's reassess. Okay, we need to
- 30:26get our priorities back in line. We have a drive through beer barn that
- 30:30doesn't even they don't even. Yeah, I mean when you have a director
- 30:33that sells booze like you can get like you can get a Dacora to go,
- 30:36I'm like, what do you mean, Like, oh, we just
- 30:37put tape across the top. I'm like, I love this place. So
- 30:42is the drive through Booze Barn at Southwest Texas. Was it actually across the
- 30:48street from campus on campus or was it like in the bookstore. Uh,
- 30:52yes, there's a bar. There's a bar on campus in the student union.
- 30:59There there's a full on bar. And they had this whole They had
- 31:02this brilliant idea. It's just when your brain works faster than technology. They
- 31:07had this brilliant idea. When they open it with thing it's called the lines
- 31:11that are the something den. I don't know what it's called. I think
- 31:15it's the Den. Maybe. I'm pretty sure your mascot's the Bobcats, right,
- 31:18Yeah, so that's the den. Uh. And uh, they had
- 31:22this thing like where you had to scan your ID and if you had a
- 31:26class within a certain amount of time, it wouldn't it wouldn't allow you to
- 31:30buy a beer. Well that's cool and in theory, it's fantastic. Uh,
- 31:34they just didn't have the technology to do it. So you had people
- 31:38showing up just rip roaring, wasted classes. I'm like, now, this
- 31:42is what I signed up for. I appreciate this. I mean, I'm
- 31:45gonna mess up. I'm gonna be fair. They were a fair There were
- 31:48a fair number of history makers throughout time that were drunk when they did some
- 31:52major things. It's more it's more like Southwest Texas cosplay. I was like,
- 31:57I'm gonna ruin the curve for everybody in this room. All right,
- 32:01trade, you have a prediction for Texas, so you which, By the
- 32:05way, if anyone can say red River Rivalry any times fast, you should
- 32:09get a trophy. I hate that name, but they have to be PC
- 32:14because they can't. They couldn't call it the Red River Shootout anymore. Oh
- 32:17yeah, uh prediction. I'm gonna go out on a limb and I'm gonna
- 32:22say forty five thirty five Texas. Wow, I dig it. It's interesting
- 32:29all that anxiety that you mentioned earlier, you're still going with a ten point
- 32:32win. I think, be really close and then Texas will get a like
- 32:37kind of a trash time touchdown. But you'll take it, of course,
- 32:44absolutely. Yeah. Those things sometimes can push you, Yeah, you over,
- 32:49So they're important push your Oh puh oh you mean push the over the
- 32:53over? Yes? So, so do you have money on this game?
- 33:00Yet? You're going to put money on the game. Yeah, that's always
- 33:06it. I'll wake up Saturday see how I feel. If I've for some
- 33:13reason I'm really overconfident, then yes, wow, okay, I dig it
- 33:16man, and and go ahead. It'll probably just like salt in the wound
- 33:22of not only do we lose, but then I you know, when I
- 33:25pay my bookie here. Now, I think the salt in the wold would
- 33:30be when your bookie's wearing as Sooner's jersey and he welcomes you with an open
- 33:40wallet, and he went to ut Now he went to Southwest Texas. All
