- 1:34Speaker 8: you back to the future!
- 1:36Speaker 9: What's up and.
- 1:40Speaker 8: Welcome to Movie Meltdown. I am Brian.
- 1:42Speaker 10: I am Misty.
- 1:43Speaker 8: I am still Jay.
- 1:45Speaker 10: I was not done introducing myself.
- 1:47Speaker 8: You've done that.
- 1:48Speaker 10: I'm Lucy.
- 1:51Speaker 8: Don't interrupt third squabble.
- 1:53Speaker 10: I'm going to start. My name is Misty.
- 1:56Speaker 8: There you go. That's where you're going with it? After
- 1:59Speaker 8: all that?
- 2:00Speaker 11: I had to make sure I was done.
- 2:01Speaker 10: I feel justified. Oh, Lord.
- 2:03Speaker 11: I knew it until he was drinking water first so
- 2:05Speaker 11: he couldn't interrupt me again.
- 2:09Speaker 10: Cagey.
- 2:11Speaker 8: Well, with that, we're obviously back here at the previously
- 2:15Speaker 8: unnamed touring convention. It's like we never left. It seems
- 2:19Speaker 8: like it, doesn't it? We may or may not still
- 2:21Speaker 8: be invading Randy's room.
- 2:23Speaker 11: We totally are.
- 2:24Speaker 10: We're still staring at his kiwis.
- 2:26Speaker 8: Seems inappropriate, but whatever.
- 2:31Speaker 10: It could be Lisa's kiwis. I don't know. Now you're
- 2:35Speaker 10: just starting rumors. There's six of them. Maybe they each
- 2:38Speaker 10: have three kiwis.
- 2:39Speaker 8: More celebrity rumors this week.
- 2:42Speaker 10: Randy and Lisa are celebrities.
- 2:44Speaker 8: They are celebrities on this show. They are.
- 2:47Speaker 10: They are rock stars.
- 2:49Speaker 8: Alright, so let's head into the geek activities this week.
- 2:54Speaker 8: Aside from the movie I watched that we'll be discussing later,
- 2:58Speaker 8: there wasn't a whole lot. There's one that I'm going
- 3:01Speaker 8: to mention, but I still don't think we should talk
- 3:03Speaker 8: about it at great length, because I almost think we
- 3:04Speaker 8: just need to go ahead and do a whole episode,
- 3:06Speaker 8: because we're geeks and we'll talk about it enough anyway.
- 3:09Speaker 8: I did watch The Ward.
- 3:11Speaker 10: I love that movie.
- 3:12Speaker 8: See, and as we've said before, we need to talk
- 3:14Speaker 8: about it, but it's like nothing but spoilers and mobs.
- 3:17Speaker 10: Can we talk about how Amber Heard runs in that movie?
- 3:20Speaker 8: Go ahead.
- 3:21Speaker 10: She runs.
- 3:22Speaker 8: No.
- 3:24Speaker 10: It's fantastic. She runs in everything. She either runs or
- 3:26Speaker 10: rides a bike. She has fabulous legs.
- 3:29Speaker 8: I don't want to argue that. Amber's quite the looker.
- 3:34Speaker 10: And she has fantastic legs. I mean, seriously.
- 3:37Speaker 8: She'll have to bring them over. I don't know.
- 3:39Speaker 10: Did I have a better shot than you do?
- 3:41Speaker 8: Not necessarily. Not according to TMZ the other day.
- 3:44Speaker 12: Oh, they lie.
- 3:45Speaker 8: I think they lie. Because she was also getting into
- 3:47Speaker 8: a car with a chick when they said this.
- 3:49Speaker 10: Her and her chick have been together for years.
- 3:50Speaker 8: That's what I'm saying. I was like, TMZ's full of shit.
- 3:54Speaker 11: Anyways, I like the movie. I like the movies that
- 3:57Speaker 11: it ripped off.
- 3:59Speaker 8: We'll get to that later. Anyway, so yeah, I did
- 4:02Speaker 8: watch The Ward, but I think we just need to
- 4:04Speaker 8: break down and have a little thing on that one.
- 4:06Speaker 8: So we'll come back to The Ward later. So between
- 4:08Speaker 8: now and then, go watch it. So about the only
- 4:10Speaker 8: other thing I watched was I watched Peep World.
- 4:14Speaker 13: What?
- 4:14Speaker 8: Which is probably different than what you're thinking. Peep shows? No,
- 4:18Speaker 8: it doesn't.
- 4:19Speaker 10: Marshmallows?
- 4:21Speaker 8: Not that I can remember.
- 4:23Speaker 10: I really want.
- 4:24Speaker 8: That movie made, by the way.
- 4:26Speaker 10: That's the one tie-in film that's never happened.
- 4:28Speaker 8: Or peep shows and marshmallows.
- 4:30Speaker 11: Well, peeps.
- 4:30Speaker 10: The peeps films.
- 4:32Speaker 3: Hmm.
- 4:33Speaker 10: I hate peeps, but.
- 4:33Speaker 8: But would it be, like, a peep show involving peeps?
- 4:36Speaker 10: Grandmas do love them.
- 4:37Speaker 11: She sits them out for a week until they get hard.
- 4:39Speaker 11: She opens them up, leaves them on the cabinet for
- 4:41Speaker 11: a week until they get, like, crunchy.
- 4:42Speaker 8: And then she eats them.
- 4:43Speaker 13: Wait, purposefully?
- 4:44Speaker 8: Purposefully.
- 4:45Speaker 10: Wow.
- 4:45Speaker 11: She will open them and leave them out just so
- 4:47Speaker 11: they don't get hard.
- 4:47Speaker 10: So she'll eat them. I love my grandma. I love
- 4:50Speaker 10: that eccentricity. She's special.
- 4:54Speaker 11: See, if Marlena was here, she would tell you about
- 4:55Speaker 11: the time she ate a whole thing of peeps, like,
- 4:57Speaker 11: from the right of the store to her house, and then.
- 5:00Speaker 10: She felt sick. I'll tell it to you instead. I
- 5:03Speaker 10: was with her.
- 5:06Speaker 8: Her telling crazy stories on her show? Never.
- 5:09Speaker 11: She brought, like, several things of peeps.
- 5:12Speaker 10: And she ate them all.
- 5:14Speaker 8: But were they involved in some sort of peep show action?
- 5:16Speaker 11: I don't think they were. Not that I'm aware of.
- 5:19Speaker 8: None of this took place in this movie. It's actually
- 5:21Speaker 8: a much different movie than the title would lead you
- 5:25Speaker 8: to believe. It's like a family drama comedy show. mostly
- 5:29Speaker 8: comedy well that sounds lame but sort of a depressing
- 5:32Speaker 8: comedy it's a family that's like completely messed up and
- 5:36Speaker 8: it's actually not bad i guess i watched it mostly
- 5:39Speaker 8: because michael c hall's in it and i do remember
- 5:42Speaker 8: the trailer i remember seeing that he was making something
- 5:44Speaker 8: else and i was just like oh okay he's trying.
- 5:47Speaker 11: Was he downstairs was he at the convention he was
- 5:48Speaker 11: supposed to be here wasn't he michael c.
- 5:50Speaker 10: Hall no i'm thinking of Anthony Michael.
- 5:52Speaker 8: Yeah, you're right. Anthony Michael Hall.
- 5:54Speaker 12: He wasn't here, was he?
- 5:55Speaker 8: He was there.
- 5:56Speaker 10: I actually saw him when we first walked in.
- 5:57Speaker 8: Yeah, he walked past me. Oh, crap. I was going
- 5:59Speaker 8: to say, hey, what's up?
- 6:00Speaker 10: What's up, Rusty?
- 6:01Speaker 11: You didn't say anything last time you saw him.
- 6:04Speaker 13: Did I?
- 6:04Speaker 10: He was at the Comic Con.
- 6:06Speaker 8: Yeah, I did saw him there. Was he at the
- 6:07Speaker 8: Comic Con?
- 6:08Speaker 10: Yes, he was at the Comic Con. He looks a.
- 6:10Speaker 8: Little different now. Yeah, he does look different now. He
- 6:13Speaker 8: looks very different than back in the day when he
- 6:15Speaker 8: was a goofy teenage boy.
- 6:17Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 6:18Speaker 8: I guess that's good, really.
- 6:19Speaker 10: Who's Michael C.
- 6:20Speaker 4: Hall?
- 6:20Speaker 10: It's Dexter. I like Dexter.
- 6:22Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 6:22Speaker 10: But I don't like his face.
- 6:23Speaker 11: I like him on the show. I'm okay with him
- 6:28Speaker 11: on the show, but I don't like all the box
- 6:30Speaker 11: art for the DVDs or any of the promotionals for Dexter.
- 6:33Speaker 11: He has this little smarmy, smug little smirk that I
- 6:37Speaker 11: want to beat.
- 6:37Speaker 10: Off his face.
- 6:38Speaker 12: I have a hard time getting past him from.
- 6:42Speaker 12: Six feet under, because I remember six feet under, and
- 6:45Speaker 12: he was good in that.
- 6:46Speaker 8: I like that show.
- 6:50Speaker 12: But yeah, the Dexter thing, I still expect him to
- 6:53Speaker 12: run a funeral home.
- 6:57Speaker 10: It would be pretty convenient.
- 6:58Speaker 8: Yeah, that would come in handy. I don't know. Working
- 7:02Speaker 8: homicide might come in a little more handy. He has
- 7:04Speaker 8: a lot of really convenient things at his fingertips working
- 7:09Speaker 8: at the old homicide. But no, in this one, he's
- 7:11Speaker 8: a total normal guy, and he's sort of the oldest
- 7:15Speaker 8: child in this family, this massively dysfunctional family. You've got
- 7:20Speaker 8: some of the other kids. You've got Rainn Wilson as
- 7:22Speaker 8: the next brother.
- 7:23Speaker 10: Oh, my God.
- 7:24Speaker 8: Then Sarah Silverman. It's a messed up family. I like
- 7:28Speaker 8: Sarah Silverman. Yeah.
- 7:30Speaker 10: I think I vaguely remember seeing that trailer.
- 7:31Speaker 8: Yeah. When I first saw it listed, I was like,
- 7:34Speaker 8: what the hell is that? And then I saw the rundown.
- 7:36Speaker 8: I was like, No, I do remember a trailer of this.
- 7:39Speaker 8: I don't remember much about it, but I remember that
- 7:42Speaker 8: it got made last year at some point.
- 7:44Speaker 10: Yeah, was that ever released?
- 7:45Speaker 8: That's what I don't know. I don't remember seeing it
- 7:47Speaker 8: come out in theaters. It just showed up on the
- 7:49Speaker 8: TV one day.
- 7:50Speaker 10: Magically.
- 7:51Speaker 8: I watched it in the magic box in my house.
- 7:55Speaker 8: It's good. It's not great. I think that's what it is.
- 7:58Speaker 8: It's got potential there. I mean, it's supposed to be... This,
- 8:02Speaker 8: you know, kind of crazy. To me, it's almost kind
- 8:04Speaker 8: of working like a Royal Tenenbaums kind of feel. Like,
- 8:06Speaker 8: it's trying to get this big family, and they're massively dysfunctional,
- 8:10Speaker 8: and it's got this kind of really rapid-fire witty dialogue
- 8:14Speaker 8: a lot of the time, but somehow it's like it
- 8:16Speaker 8: misses somewhere along the way. I don't know what it is.
- 8:18Speaker 8: It's like a lot of the stuff that's in it
- 8:21Speaker 8: is really funny, and there's stuff that's really well-written, but
- 8:24Speaker 8: at the same time, somewhere along the way, it just
- 8:26Speaker 8: seems like it doesn't finish when it starts. I don't know.
- 8:30Speaker 8: It seems like it's got potential to be really good
- 8:33Speaker 8: with all those people involved and with some of the writing,
- 8:36Speaker 8: and then it just sort of fizzles out midway in?
- 8:39Speaker 10: I don't know. Is one of the characters, like, writing
- 8:41Speaker 10: a tell-all book about the family?
- 8:43Speaker 8: Yeah, the youngest brother writes a book that's supposedly fictional,
- 8:48Speaker 8: but everybody knows it's about his family, and he goes
- 8:51Speaker 8: on talking about it. And, yeah, I mean... I don't know.
- 8:54Speaker 8: The younger brother's kind of obnoxious, too. They're all really, like,
- 8:57Speaker 8: they're not the most, I mean, Michael C. Hall's probably
- 8:59Speaker 8: the most likable of the bunch. The rest of them
- 9:00Speaker 8: are just a mess. So, I guess that, again, you
- 9:04Speaker 8: have to get into the comedy style more than the characters,
- 9:07Speaker 8: because you can't really get on board with most of
- 9:08Speaker 8: the characters. So, it's interesting. I'm glad I watched it,
- 9:13Speaker 8: but it's not a great movie. It's just, it was
- 9:17Speaker 8: a fun watch. I like the people in.
- 9:19Speaker 11: It, but.
- 9:20Speaker 10: You don't make me want to see it.
- 9:22Speaker 8: You probably wouldn't like it anyway.
- 9:23Speaker 10: Why would not?
- 9:26Speaker 8: But that's pretty much all I watched.
- 9:28Speaker 10: My turn?
- 9:29Speaker 8: How about you?
- 9:31Speaker 11: Me and Jay watched a shitload of Supernatural.
- 9:34Speaker 8: Imagine?
- 9:34Speaker 10: I know, right? I know, right? So yeah, we are, what,
- 9:41Speaker 10: almost halfway through season six now?
- 9:43Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 9:44Speaker 11: We watched at least one episode a day. That's why
- 9:46Speaker 11: it's taking us a little while. Because sometimes we just
- 9:48Speaker 11: don't have time to watch a lot. And so far,
- 9:50Speaker 11: season six is kind of a disappointment. It's kind of lacking.
- 9:53Speaker 11: It's not as, I don't know, it just seems to
- 9:56Speaker 11: be missing something. Probably because it was supposed to end
- 9:58Speaker 11: at the end of season five.
- 9:59Speaker 10: I don't know. They're just reaching for shit now.
- 10:04Speaker 11: We've been watching a lot of Supernatural, so we really
- 10:06Speaker 11: haven't watched that many movies. We watched Psycho on Halloween.
- 10:10Speaker 11: That's kind of what we do now.
- 10:11Speaker 8: It's a tradition. I love Psycho.
- 10:12Speaker 11: As long.
- 10:15Speaker 8: As you don't say, I love Vince Vaughn in the
- 10:17Speaker 8: next sentence.
- 10:19Speaker 10: I hate Vince Vaughn.
- 10:19Speaker 8: Not that psycho. That's not psycho.
- 10:23Speaker 11: That movie is why I hate Vince Vaughn.
- 10:25Speaker 8: It did kind of, it was a turning point for me.
- 10:28Speaker 8: I was like, oh, yeah, this guy's got potential. No,
- 10:30Speaker 8: fuck that guy.
- 10:31Speaker 10: Yeah, fuck that guy.
- 10:31Speaker 8: And then he kind of fucked up his own career.
- 10:35Speaker 8: Now he makes a lot of questionable comedies.
- 10:38Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 10:40Speaker 11: Then, by myself, I watched the Wonderfall series. Which is
- 10:44Speaker 11: still one of my favorite shows. I loved that show
- 10:46Speaker 11: when it came on. And it got canceled after like
- 10:48Speaker 11: four episodes.
- 10:49Speaker 10: Which they made like.
- 10:50Speaker 11: 13 episodes, I guess, maybe. So there was a whole
- 10:53Speaker 11: bunch that just didn't air.
- 10:55Speaker 10: It's fun.
- 10:55Speaker 11: It's quirky. And it was really well written. And most
- 10:59Speaker 11: people don't know what the hell I'm talking about when
- 11:00Speaker 11: I mention Wonderfall.
- 11:02Speaker 8: I remember it being on.
- 11:03Speaker 11: Who worked at Niagara Falls. And she gets hit in
- 11:05Speaker 11: the head with a penny. Or a quarter or something.
- 11:08Speaker 11: And then animals start talking to her. But not like
- 11:10Speaker 11: real animals. like fake animals like stuffed animals or any
- 11:15Speaker 11: kind of like figurine anything that has a face I
- 11:17Speaker 11: think that's what she decides any animal with a face
- 11:20Speaker 11: figurine talks to her and tells her to do things
- 11:23Speaker 11: it's awesome and it's funny even though it really sounded
- 11:25Speaker 11: lame from what I just said.
- 11:28Speaker 8: I remember the promos where it looked kind of interesting
- 11:31Speaker 8: very different than what normally ends up on network TV which.
- 11:33Speaker 11: Is why it didn't last it was very quirky and
- 11:36Speaker 11: it was really funny and it was really it was
- 11:38Speaker 11: kind of a sweet show she falls in love with
- 11:40Speaker 11: a guy.
- 11:41Speaker 8: It always makes no sense when they shoot an entire
- 11:45Speaker 8: season with the stuff and just don't ever play it.
- 11:47Speaker 8: I'm like, there's a lot of useless crap on TV.
- 11:49Speaker 10: Really?
- 11:50Speaker 8: You can't work this in for another season? That's it?
- 11:53Speaker 8: Just take some of the other nonsense off. Take a
- 11:55Speaker 8: couple of reality shows off.
- 11:57Speaker 11: Yeah, fuck a bunch of reality shows.
- 11:58Speaker 8: Jesus.
- 11:59Speaker 11: But I watched a couple movies by myself because they
- 12:02Speaker 11: had Jensen Ackles in them.
- 12:04Speaker 8: Imagine that. I know, right?
- 12:06Speaker 11: I re-watched My Bloody Valentine 3D. I tried to watch
- 12:11Speaker 11: it with the little 3D glasses and the 3D version,
- 12:14Speaker 11: and the 3D still looks halfway okay, but it just
- 12:16Speaker 11: makes everything else look retarded. It made Jensen Nichols look
- 12:19Speaker 11: like purple, and nobody wants to see a purple Jensen Nichols.
- 12:21Speaker 10: It's just weird, you know? And the movie, it's still fun.
- 12:24Speaker 11: Granted, it's not a great masterpiece or whatever, but I
- 12:28Speaker 11: enjoy it.
- 12:29Speaker 8: I liked that one. For that type of movie, it
- 12:31Speaker 8: was pretty well made.
- 12:32Speaker 11: Watching it in the theater was awesome. I still think
- 12:35Speaker 11: it's some of the best 3D in a horror movie.
- 12:37Speaker 8: It is. Well, I mean, it's, again, I've only seen
- 12:40Speaker 8: a handful of 3D movies, half of which have been terrible.
- 12:43Speaker 8: The 3D-wise, I've just, as far as the 3D technology goes,
- 12:47Speaker 8: that was still to this day.
- 12:49Speaker 10: Yeah, it wasn't even just, like, the gimmicks.
- 12:50Speaker 11: Like, the whole scenes, like, The foreground and the background, everything,
- 12:54Speaker 11: it felt real. You know, like, real, but, you know,
- 12:56Speaker 11: better than.
- 12:57Speaker 10: They put a.
- 12:57Speaker 8: Lot of time in just the 3D aspect of that one.
- 13:00Speaker 10: And it was fun.
- 13:01Speaker 8: I enjoyed it.
- 13:02Speaker 10: And then I watched Devour.
- 13:05Speaker 8: Which is great.
- 13:06Speaker 10: It was stupid. And, like, I watched it because it
- 13:11Speaker 10: had Jensen Eccleston in it. I don't want to keep
- 13:12Speaker 10: saying his name just because it's kind of fun.
- 13:14Speaker 8: You just like saying it.
- 13:15Speaker 11: I do.
- 13:15Speaker 10: It said Jensen Eccleston.
- 13:17Speaker 11: But it's about.
- 13:20Speaker 10: They start off.
- 13:21Speaker 11: The premise as being, like, oh, it's one of them
- 13:23Speaker 11: crazy computer games, and the internet, and oh man, and
- 13:28Speaker 11: the computer, and you sign up for this game, and
- 13:30Speaker 11: then you start getting phone calls, and it starts to
- 13:32Speaker 11: tell you to do stuff.
- 13:34Speaker 8: Or any of them Samuel L.
- 13:35Speaker 10: Jackson.
- 13:36Speaker 11: No.
- 13:37Speaker 8: Telling you to go see Snake Son.
- 13:38Speaker 10: That would be awesome. That was awesome, by the way.
- 13:41Speaker 8: It was awesome.
- 13:42Speaker 11: But yeah, it's just him, and apparently, I think he's the.
- 13:47Speaker 10: Son of the devil, maybe?
- 13:48Speaker 14: Maybe.
- 13:49Speaker 10: Or a witch?
- 13:50Speaker 11: We're never really sure on the premise here.
- 13:53Speaker 8: I like these kind of premises.
- 13:55Speaker 11: Satanic beast or whatever. Yeah, apparently he's the son of this. Yeah,
- 14:02Speaker 11: that's all I got for that, really.
- 14:05Speaker 10: It was just... It was retarded, is what it was.
- 14:08Speaker 11: I don't think I watched anything else. I probably did,
- 14:12Speaker 11: I just can't remember right now.
- 14:15Speaker 10: What about you, Honey Bunny? Did you watch anything?
- 14:16Speaker 12: I didn't watch anything. I spent most of my time
- 14:20Speaker 12: Forging a blade for Randy.
- 14:22Speaker 10: A magnificent blade.
- 14:24Speaker 8: That's a very geeky activity, so you can go into
- 14:26Speaker 8: that slightly.
- 14:29Speaker 12: I don't know how that started. Actually, I think it
- 14:31Speaker 12: started with me making a comment about making Randy a
- 14:34Speaker 12: grappling hook.
- 14:35Speaker 10: Which is so totally not a machete.
- 14:37Speaker 8: Yeah, well.
- 14:39Speaker 12: I don't know why I didn't make him a grappling hook.
- 14:43Speaker 8: Maybe because.
- 14:44Speaker 10: You decided it wouldn't be practical.
- 14:45Speaker 8: Yeah, I figured it wouldn't be practical. Because, I mean,
- 14:48Speaker 8: you know.
- 14:49Speaker 12: It's a grappling hook. Why do you want to climb
- 14:51Speaker 12: trees and kill zombies?
- 14:53Speaker 8: Yeah, I want something, you know, whatever. Who knows? First
- 14:56Speaker 8: you have to make him that Batman gun that fires
- 14:59Speaker 8: the grappling hook.
- 14:59Speaker 13: Yeah, well.
- 15:01Speaker 8: Please do that. I don't know.
- 15:03Speaker 12: But we got a bunch of crap at my work
- 15:05Speaker 12: for people who don't know what I do. I do
- 15:07Speaker 12: a lot of metalworking. And so I kind of figured, hey,
- 15:12Speaker 12: I'll just take this piece of steel and, Make a
- 15:16Speaker 12: blade out of it, and we fired it in the oven, and,
- 15:21Speaker 12: you know, heat treated it, and tool hardened it, sharpened it,
- 15:26Speaker 12: and formed a nice, cool-looking blade. Kind of reminds, well,
- 15:31Speaker 12: just to describe it, I guess, if you don't have
- 15:33Speaker 12: a picture of it. Looks a bit like an orc sword.
- 15:37Speaker 8: We can... had a picture in our Secret Circle exclusive.
- 15:41Speaker 12: Yeah, you can add it in there. It's kind of
- 15:43Speaker 12: a pry bar, kind of a machete, kind of an
- 15:45Speaker 12: orc sword, kind of a butcher knife.
- 15:47Speaker 11: And all kinds of awesome.
- 15:49Speaker 12: And all kinds of awesome.
- 15:52Speaker 8: Misty did the handle for it. I helped.
- 15:54Speaker 12: You did more than help. You wove the handle for
- 15:57Speaker 12: it because I was getting ready to throw it through
- 15:59Speaker 12: the living room window.
- 16:01Speaker 8: More than anything, you kept him from using it. That
- 16:03Speaker 8: was the most important part.
- 16:05Speaker 11: You almost impaled our couch.
- 16:07Speaker 12: Yeah, I'm kind of disappointed I didn't get to kill
- 16:09Speaker 12: any coconuts with it, but that's usually how I test
- 16:13Speaker 12: out stuff. I figure coconuts are the closest thing I
- 16:15Speaker 12: can get to human skulls.
- 16:18Speaker 10: Wow.
- 16:19Speaker 8: That you can talk about on here.
- 16:21Speaker 7: Well, yeah.
- 16:22Speaker 9: I mean, really.
- 16:23Speaker 8: But, yeah.
- 16:26Speaker 7: It's done.
- 16:26Speaker 12: And I'm Making another one.
- 16:30Speaker 8: Place your orders now.
- 16:31Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 16:33Speaker 8: Send lots of cash.
- 16:34Speaker 12: Maces, Warhammers, and Blades of Destruction.
- 16:40Speaker 8: PayPal account is set up. That's what I did this week.
- 16:46Speaker 8: Instead of taking a break. Awesome.
- 16:50Speaker 12: I didn't watch anything.
- 16:52Speaker 11: You watched something with the kid.
- 16:54Speaker 8: I did? Oh yeah, I did, didn't I? I watched...
- 17:00Speaker 8: I don't know what I watched.
- 17:01Speaker 10: You watched an episode of Mystery Science Theater.
- 17:03Speaker 8: Yeah, but which one?
- 17:05Speaker 10: I don't remember.
- 17:06Speaker 14: Me neither.
- 17:07Speaker 10: It's a good story. I don't know why I brought
- 17:10Speaker 10: it up then.
- 17:11Speaker 7: Crap.
- 17:12Speaker 8: What did we watch?
- 17:13Speaker 12: Oh, we went back and re-watched Cave Dwellers.
- 17:17Speaker 8: She loves that damn movie. She loves Cave Dwellers, and
- 17:20Speaker 8: I'm not even sure why.
- 17:24Speaker 12: Maybe she needs to graduate to Beastmaster, because Cave Dwellers?
- 17:27Speaker 8: Not Beastmaster.
- 17:28Speaker 10: Not so much. Beastmaster is the best movie ever or.
- 17:32Speaker 12: It may just be because she thinks that's one of
- 17:35Speaker 12: the funniest episodes but whatever you need to introduce her.
- 17:38Speaker 15: To Mitchell starring John Sexton she's probably already seen Mitchell
- 17:44Speaker 15: Mitchell's awesome I think she has because we've watched just
- 17:50Speaker 15: about every single mystery science theater there is some she
- 17:56Speaker 15: likes more than others uh some she's punching me on
- 18:01Speaker 15: the couch telling me to wake up she's like.
- 18:04Speaker 12: Dad come on you're falling asleep again.
- 18:06Speaker 8: Yeah they're still dwelling in the cave.
- 18:08Speaker 12: Yeah i'm like what no i was totally awake your
- 18:11Speaker 12: eyes were shut i was.
- 18:13Speaker 8: That guy said something funny yeah yeah i remember.
- 18:18Speaker 12: So yeah i think that's all i watched uh no
- 18:22Speaker 12: no i went back and watched old uh All things
- 18:26Speaker 12: of Max Hedrum on YouTube.
- 18:27Speaker 8: Oh, that's right. You were talking about that earlier.
- 18:29Speaker 1: So, yeah.
- 18:30Speaker 12: Max Hedrum, he's great.
- 18:31Speaker 8: As usual, a lot of things in the 80s don't
- 18:33Speaker 8: seem to live up to the way they used to.
- 18:35Speaker 12: No, because I remember thinking Max Hedrum was the coolest.
- 18:38Speaker 12: But then I was just like.
- 18:39Speaker 8: I don't know. Even back in the day, I was
- 18:41Speaker 8: kind of like, he just is annoying. Stop with the
- 18:43Speaker 8: stuttering already.
- 18:45Speaker 10: I don't know.
- 18:45Speaker 8: I thought it was cool.
- 18:46Speaker 12: But I was annoying when I was a kid.
- 18:48Speaker 8: I mean, yeah. Those cool backgrounds and those shades. Sure, but... Yeah. Yeah.
- 18:52Speaker 12: Well, it's like me and you were talking about on
- 18:54Speaker 12: the way up here about how, like, during the 80s,
- 18:58Speaker 12: older people were cool. Rodney Dangerfield, Max Hedrum. He was
- 19:04Speaker 12: rapping Rodney for you. Yeah, but, I mean, people that were, like,
- 19:07Speaker 12: in their 40s and 50s were cool with kids.
- 19:09Speaker 8: But, like, nowadays, kids don't give a crap about adults.
- 19:13Speaker 8: Adults don't get them. They're not cool.
- 19:15Speaker 10: Adults are dumb.
- 19:16Speaker 8: They're not going to be doing anything. They kind of are, really.
- 19:18Speaker 8: They are.
- 19:19Speaker 12: That is one of my major complaints about certain people.
- 19:22Speaker 12: kids tv programming and it's the reason why my daughter
- 19:24Speaker 12: doesn't watch uh i carly anymore because all the adults
- 19:29Speaker 12: are portrayed as idiots in it and they don't know
- 19:31Speaker 12: what's going on the kids are constantly pulling fast ones
- 19:34Speaker 12: on them and my kids started getting an attitude and
- 19:37Speaker 12: i was like you know what this shit's gonna stop
- 19:39Speaker 12: right now there you go carly yeah no i carly
- 19:44Speaker 12: for you because you get you get a little sassy
- 19:47Speaker 12: attitude and i don't like that don't put up with
- 19:50Speaker 12: that crap. I'm sorry. I'm generally pretty cool about stuff. But, yeah,
- 19:56Speaker 12: don't start sassing me.
- 19:57Speaker 10: You draw the line at iCarly.
- 19:58Speaker 8: I draw the line at iCarly, yeah.
- 20:01Speaker 12: But that's the extent of my geek week. Mostly just
- 20:03Speaker 12: making weapons. That's always a good activity. Making weapons and
- 20:07Speaker 12: repairing barber chairs.
- 20:11Speaker 8: Well, put those together and have Sweeney Todd. You could.
- 20:17Speaker 8: All right, Lucy, what was yours?
- 20:19Speaker 10: Okay, here's the thing. So I had got my wisdom
- 20:21Speaker 10: teeth out.
- 20:22Speaker 8: Which was fun, if I heard correctly.
- 20:25Speaker 10: So my pain medicine was only semi-effective. What did they
- 20:29Speaker 10: give you? Lortab? I'm not a big advocate, honestly. I'm
- 20:34Speaker 10: not somebody that does pills recreationally, and I really hated them. Yeah, actually,
- 20:39Speaker 10: there's plenty left. But it didn't seem prudent to drink heavily,
- 20:42Speaker 10: which was what I wanted to do because I was
- 20:45Speaker 10: in excruciating pain. So instead, the prudent escapism seemed to
- 20:49Speaker 10: be going to the movie theater, which it is generally.
- 20:52Speaker 10: So I saw a lot of theatrical releases this last week.
- 20:56Speaker 10: I needed Mindless Entertainment. Fortunately, there's a surplus of that
- 21:02Speaker 10: right now.
- 21:02Speaker 8: The theatrical run usually takes care of that for everybody.
- 21:05Speaker 10: Did you see anything that had Tyler Perry in it?
- 21:08Speaker 10: I do draw a line somewhere.
- 21:09Speaker 8: You know I have standards. Thank God.
- 21:15Speaker 10: But had he had something out right now, I can't promise.
- 21:18Speaker 10: That's the level of pain I was in.
- 21:20Speaker 8: You were hopped up on the dress. The idea is hilarious.
- 21:25Speaker 10: Oh, but speaking of cross-dressing men, I did see Eddie
- 21:28Speaker 10: Murphy in Tower Heist.
- 21:29Speaker 8: Oh, and did he in this one, too?
- 21:32Speaker 10: I'm going to tell you what. Okay, here's the thing.
- 21:34Speaker 10: I've been very conflicted. Now it's a non-issue, fortunately. But
- 21:38Speaker 10: the whole thing about the Oscars, I am an Oscar watcher.
- 21:41Speaker 10: I'm thick and thin. I'm not going to stop. This
- 21:43Speaker 10: was the one year. I'm never going to watch the
- 21:45Speaker 10: Oscars again.
- 21:46Speaker 9: Really?
- 21:46Speaker 10: I am boycotting them. What turned you?
- 21:49Speaker 11: They did their fucking tribute and they did not put
- 21:51Speaker 11: Corey in it.
- 21:53Speaker 10: Yeah, that was wrong. Fuck them.
- 21:56Speaker 11: No, you're right.
- 21:57Speaker 10: I'll never watch them again. Did they ever apologize or
- 21:59Speaker 10: acknowledge it or nothing?
- 22:00Speaker 8: They never do. They always leave people out and they're
- 22:03Speaker 8: just like, eh, whatever.
- 22:04Speaker 10: But they left out Corey, god damn it. But didn't
- 22:06Speaker 10: his mom sort of lobby and say that they needed to...
- 22:09Speaker 10: And nothing.
- 22:10Speaker 12: They're the Oscars. They can do whatever the fuck they want.
- 22:13Speaker 10: Well, here's the thing. I honestly felt like maybe with
- 22:16Speaker 10: this choice, they were purposefully trying to alienate people. Like,
- 22:20Speaker 10: maybe they don't really want people watching. Like, maybe they're
- 22:23Speaker 10: kind of over it and, like, this institution and they
- 22:26Speaker 10: just want it to die and they don't.
- 22:28Speaker 8: They're just shooting themselves in the foot.
- 22:30Speaker 10: So after, like, the James Franco, which actually I enjoyed
- 22:33Speaker 10: him as the host. I'm going to be honest, just
- 22:35Speaker 10: because it was so weird. But, you know, people hated it.
- 22:37Speaker 8: They hated it.
- 22:37Speaker 10: They were turning against the Oscars and they were like, okay, well,
- 22:40Speaker 10: next year... Instead, we're gonna have Eddie Murphy? Like, what? Like,
- 22:43Speaker 10: the guy that picked up the transvestite? Like, the guy that.
- 22:46Speaker 8: Beat up Scary Spice? The guy who was funny 20-some-odd
- 22:48Speaker 8: years ago?
- 22:49Speaker 10: So, anyway, he's loathsome, I find. And half or some time,
- 22:53Speaker 10: all the movies, they're terrible, they're.
- 22:55Speaker 8: He beat up Scary Spice?
- 22:57Speaker 10: Well, there was that whole thing with the baby and the.
- 23:00Speaker 8: Oh, Baby Spice?
- 23:01Speaker 10: Yeah, they made a baby together.
- 23:03Speaker 11: What?
- 23:03Speaker 8: Yeah, they dated. Had babies?
- 23:06Speaker 10: Yeah, they procreated.
- 23:07Speaker 8: Oh, man, I like Scary Spice. Now she's ruined now.
- 23:11Speaker 8: Damn it.
- 23:13Speaker 10: They dated for like a substantial period of time. And
- 23:15Speaker 10: then one day she's like, you know, maybe they'd already
- 23:17Speaker 10: broken up, but she was like, I'm pregnant. He was like, well,
- 23:19Speaker 10: it's not mine. And she was like, yeah, it's yours.
- 23:21Speaker 10: You're my boyfriend.
- 23:22Speaker 8: It's your baby. He's like, no, it's not mine.
- 23:24Speaker 10: And she was like, dude, it's totally yours. I haven't
- 23:26Speaker 10: done anything. It's your easy cast, not mine. When it
- 23:28Speaker 10: pops out, we'll get a test, but it's not mine.
- 23:30Speaker 10: And so the kid pops out, and she's like, okay, well,
- 23:33Speaker 10: here's the test.
- 23:34Speaker 8: It's yours.
- 23:34Speaker 10: I told you. And he's like, well, I guess I'll
- 23:36Speaker 10: pay you, but, you know, whatever.
- 23:38Speaker 8: So he's a bad dude. I know as much about
- 23:40Speaker 8: that as I knew that transvestite that I picked up while... Yeah, exactly.
- 23:44Speaker 8: He just denies a lot of crazy stuff now.
- 23:46Speaker 12: If he's like that, then fuck that guy, man. Fucking
- 23:50Speaker 12: hate that shit.
- 23:51Speaker 10: The transvestites?
- 23:52Speaker 12: No, I can't fucking stand people who can't own up
- 23:56Speaker 12: and fucking be a dad.
- 23:57Speaker 8: That's what I'm saying.
- 23:58Speaker 12: Or at least be halfway fucking responsible.
- 24:01Speaker 8: Or at least go on Maury and get a DNA test.
- 24:04Speaker 10: You see that Maury has invited Bieber onto his show?
- 24:08Speaker 13: Oh, shit.
- 24:10Speaker 8: That's beautiful.
- 24:11Speaker 12: I got a long list of people I want to
- 24:13Speaker 12: fucking punch in the face.
- 24:15Speaker 8: You just joined that list.
- 24:16Speaker 10: Well, maybe I won't say what I was about to say.
- 24:19Speaker 10: Tower Heist did. I mean, it's like the Eddie Murphy, remember?
- 24:22Speaker 10: It really did kind of erase the last 25 years
- 24:26Speaker 10: for me. I was like, oh, this is the charming
- 24:28Speaker 10: guy that I remember from Trading Places. He won me
- 24:33Speaker 10: back for a little bit. It was vintage Eddie Murphy.
- 24:37Speaker 8: He's an actor. It would be really good a long
- 24:41Speaker 8: time ago. And had his moments, like we were talking
- 24:43Speaker 8: about a few weeks ago. I mean, there's, when he's,
- 24:46Speaker 8: the one time when I would say somebody's doing a
- 24:49Speaker 8: good job in makeup because they put too much stupid
- 24:52Speaker 8: giant fat suit, usually women makeup on him, but this
- 24:55Speaker 8: one when he's playing the Klump's character, it's like he
- 24:58Speaker 8: actually plays a different character. Like, he is an actor
- 25:01Speaker 8: there for a minute and he does something impressive and
- 25:04Speaker 8: When he's himself, when he's doing his role, he's terrible.
- 25:08Speaker 10: Didn't he already drop out of the Oscars?
- 25:10Speaker 8: Yeah, so it's all moving.
- 25:11Speaker 10: And I'm a little confused about that, too.
- 25:14Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 25:15Speaker 10: I mean, was it like a solidarity move? Was he saying,
- 25:17Speaker 10: Brett Ratner should be allowed to say stuff like that?
- 25:19Speaker 10: I'm jumping out.
- 25:21Speaker 8: I don't know. I didn't hear much else other than
- 25:24Speaker 8: they went with their fallback.
- 25:26Speaker 10: Oh, yeah, so wait, who is?
- 25:28Speaker 8: Well, as of the other day, it wasn't confirmed, but
- 25:32Speaker 8: that's what they said they were considering at this point.
- 25:34Speaker 8: I was like, anytime shit goes wrong, they go with
- 25:36Speaker 8: their safety post.
- 25:38Speaker 4: Billy Crystal.
- 25:39Speaker 8: I'm not a fan.
- 25:39Speaker 10: Of Billy Crystal either.
- 25:41Speaker 8: I mean, he was good at that, but again, that's
- 25:44Speaker 8: played out. He was good at that like in the 80s. Yeah,
- 25:46Speaker 8: it's like that ran out a long damn time ago,
- 25:49Speaker 8: and they need to just find something else and own
- 25:51Speaker 8: up to it. Is he going to say, you're marvelous?
- 25:53Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 25:55Speaker 8: His cutting edge comedy.
- 25:56Speaker 11: Isn't that that one guy who didn't do it again?
- 25:59Speaker 10: You're that one guy who didn't do the Oscars. The
- 26:03Speaker 10: one they pissed off.
- 26:03Speaker 8: I know who you're talking about.
- 26:05Speaker 10: What's his name?
- 26:06Speaker 8: Seth Rogen?
- 26:07Speaker 11: No.
- 26:07Speaker 10: Wait, what are you talking about? He hosted something else.
- 26:10Speaker 8: He hosted the... Ricky Gervais. Yeah, Ricky Gervais. He pissed
- 26:18Speaker 8: everybody off. Because he didn't lie. He just stood up
- 26:22Speaker 8: there and said the horrible things everybody thinks about the
- 26:26Speaker 8: people sitting in the audience. He just actually said it
- 26:28Speaker 8: in front of the microphone. Oh, awesome. He got himself
- 26:31Speaker 8: in trouble doing that. You're not supposed to do that.
- 26:34Speaker 10: He might be doing it again next year.
- 26:38Speaker 8: They probably should.
- 26:39Speaker 10: Oh, wow.
- 26:39Speaker 8: Brutal honesty.
- 26:41Speaker 11: I'm not watching Golden Globes anymore either.
- 26:43Speaker 10: They fucking snubbed Corey too.
- 26:45Speaker 8: Did they even do one of those?
- 26:47Speaker 11: Yes, they did.
- 26:47Speaker 10: They didn't have Corey, though.
- 26:48Speaker 8: Yeah, they all do them. Fuck them all. Who cares?
- 26:53Speaker 8: I don't fucking care. Sit around.
- 26:55Speaker 12: Why don't you give awards to real people that do
- 26:57Speaker 12: real shit? Like fucking soldiers and firemen and maybe cops.
- 27:03Speaker 8: I don't know. It depends.
- 27:04Speaker 10: They have that. CNN does that. CNN Hero Awards. Thank you.
- 27:09Speaker 10: That's my gift to you.
- 27:10Speaker 8: It's not big enough. Not big enough.
- 27:13Speaker 10: Better. Anderson Cooper. I love Anderson Cooper.
- 27:16Speaker 8: Garbage man. He's a really.
- 27:18Speaker 10: Talk about a fine, upstanding individual. I love Anderson Cooper.
- 27:23Speaker 8: Do you guys know?
- 27:23Speaker 10: No, seriously. I'm about to just jump onto an Anderson
- 27:26Speaker 10: Cooper tirade if I have the floor for a moment. Like,
- 27:28Speaker 10: do you know, like, how he got to be where
- 27:31Speaker 10: he got to be? Like, he's rich, right? He's like
- 27:33Speaker 10: a Vanderbilt or whatever. And he had all this family money. But,
- 27:37Speaker 10: you know, this very tragic life. But I guess he
- 27:39Speaker 10: was working for Channel One. And they were like, dude,
- 27:42Speaker 10: you do not have the face for TV.
- 27:45Speaker 8: I'm sorry.
- 27:45Speaker 10: You're not the guy. You're not the guy. You're the
- 27:47Speaker 10: guy that writes. You're the guy that, like, you know,
- 27:49Speaker 10: does the digging, the investigative stuff. But you're not camera material.
- 27:53Speaker 7: Really?
- 27:54Speaker 8: Yeah. I know.
- 27:55Speaker 13: Well, I don't know.
- 27:56Speaker 8: He's kind of a little funny looking.
- 27:56Speaker 12: It's like every woman I know is in love with
- 27:58Speaker 12: Anderson Cooper.
- 27:59Speaker 10: They're just no good. So anyway, so this is what
- 28:02Speaker 10: he did. He took his money. He heard about this
- 28:04Speaker 10: little situation in the 90s happening in Rwanda that nobody
- 28:07Speaker 10: was reporting on, that not one single person had reported on.
- 28:10Speaker 10: So he decides, you know what? I got some money.
- 28:12Speaker 10: I'm going to grab this camera guy, and we're going
- 28:14Speaker 10: to go to Rwanda. And so he starts covering the
- 28:17Speaker 10: genocide in Rwanda when there is no U.S. media outlet
- 28:20Speaker 10: there whatsoever. And he starts sending the coverage back to
- 28:23Speaker 10: Channel 1. So this crappy, I mean, I don't know
- 28:26Speaker 10: if people are familiar with Channel 1 news, but it's
- 28:27Speaker 10: the thing that they show at, like, schools in the
- 28:29Speaker 10: morning or whatever. It's, like, fake news with lots of, like,
- 28:33Speaker 10: commercials and stuff that piss parents off. But anyway, so
- 28:37Speaker 10: all of a sudden Channel 1 got an exclusive on
- 28:39Speaker 10: the Rwandan genocide. And so they're like, okay, well, keep
- 28:43Speaker 10: them coming, Anderson. And so he was like, all right, well,
- 28:45Speaker 10: when I get back, do I have a job? And
- 28:46Speaker 10: they're like, yeah, dude, you got a job. So I
- 28:49Speaker 10: don't know. The guy's cool.
- 28:51Speaker 12: And he's handsome.
- 28:52Speaker 10: And he's handsome. He's just dreamy. I know.
- 28:55Speaker 8: But he doesn't have a face for TV.
- 28:57Speaker 10: I don't get it. He's handsome. He's convinced us with
- 29:00Speaker 10: his charisma that he's handsome, but I'm not entirely sure
- 29:02Speaker 10: he's actually handsome.
- 29:03Speaker 8: Yeah, you know how Brian feels about Amber.
- 29:05Speaker 10: It's not fair. And he doesn't like the Kardashians, so that.
- 29:11Speaker 8: Works out for me, too.
- 29:12Speaker 3: Wow.
- 29:12Speaker 8: Does anybody really like him?
- 29:13Speaker 10: Or maybe it's Lindsay Lohan he doesn't like.
- 29:16Speaker 8: Either way, it's fucking hilarious.
- 29:18Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 29:20Speaker 11: I have nothing educational to say about him. If you
- 29:23Speaker 11: don't like the Kardashians, they're that low-hanging girl. That's okay
- 29:27Speaker 11: for me.
- 29:27Speaker 8: Sorry.
- 29:27Speaker 10: But yeah, Tyra is not terrible. I think that's where
- 29:33Speaker 10: I started, but that was like three hours ago. Yeah,
- 29:38Speaker 10: it was actually interesting because I saw that and Tyra's
- 29:40Speaker 10: back to back, and I feel like I was wondering
- 29:42Speaker 10: if they were sort of speeding up, because both of
- 29:44Speaker 10: those films sort of address the same thing, which is
- 29:46Speaker 10: sort of the Occupy Wall Street movement. I mean, really,
- 29:48Speaker 10: they're sort of like taking the power back to the people,
- 29:51Speaker 10: redistribution of power. you know, things, resources. Like, it was actually, like, sociologically,
- 29:56Speaker 10: I think they both came at interesting times.
- 29:59Speaker 8: Neither of them are great movies.
- 30:00Speaker 10: Actually, the in-time premise is kind of interesting. I don't
- 30:03Speaker 10: like that it had to have Justin Timberlake in it.
- 30:05Speaker 10: I don't hate him, but I think I should. I
- 30:08Speaker 10: can hate him enough for both of us, honestly.
- 30:12Speaker 8: I'm kind of like, eh.
- 30:15Speaker 11: He's one hell of a beatboxer.
- 30:16Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 30:18Speaker 12: Nothing's worse than a white guy's beatbox, and I'm sorry.
- 30:21Speaker 8: You cannot convince Justin of that.
- 30:23Speaker 12: Unless you're the damn Beastie Boys, you need to shut
- 30:25Speaker 12: the fuck up.
- 30:27Speaker 10: And then I saw Sarah's Key because I felt like
- 30:30Speaker 10: maybe a movie about the Holocaust would put my wisdom
- 30:32Speaker 10: to pain and perspective. So it was actually disappointing, though. See,
- 30:38Speaker 10: my dentist is handsome. I didn't have any dental pain
- 30:41Speaker 10: when I had my teeth pulled out.
- 30:43Speaker 8: You've got dreamy dentists.
- 30:44Speaker 10: I do.
- 30:46Speaker 11: I went back three.
- 30:46Speaker 10: Times to have teeth pulled. There's not going to be
- 30:50Speaker 10: a tooth left in your mouth. I just had four
- 30:53Speaker 10: wisdom teeth. I did one this time. I got another
- 30:57Speaker 10: tooth that's causing me pain. You're going to be chewing
- 30:59Speaker 10: bubble gum all the time.
- 31:00Speaker 12: But you've got all false teeth.
- 31:02Speaker 8: That's causing me pain.
- 31:04Speaker 10: Ghost pain.
- 31:05Speaker 8: I'll just hand them to you. Work on them. Well,
- 31:13Speaker 8: I think that you paid the ultimate price, really, for
- 31:16Speaker 8: having wisdom teeth taken out, because you watched Police Academy,
- 31:21Speaker 8: and then you didn't get to come to the episode.
- 31:23Speaker 10: I did. Honestly, I really wanted to have that conversation, though,
- 31:27Speaker 10: especially on Lortab.
- 31:28Speaker 8: Well, that would have been interesting.
- 31:30Speaker 11: I've done plenty of shows on Lortab.
- 31:34Speaker 8: This show, not sponsored by Lortab, so send money, because
- 31:38Speaker 8: pharmaceutical companies have all the money.
- 31:40Speaker 10: Or pills.
- 31:42Speaker 8: Don't send pills, because we'll never get anything done.
- 31:44Speaker 12: I don't think War Tap affects me.
- 31:47Speaker 10: But yeah, I wanted... The Steve Guttenberg.
- 31:50Speaker 8: I don't know. Did you get into.
- 31:51Speaker 10: This about the Steve Guttenberg appeal and what happened to
- 31:54Speaker 10: it and where it went and how he.
- 31:56Speaker 8: Where did it go?
- 31:57Speaker 12: There were a lot of chicks I knew that dug
- 32:01Speaker 12: Steve Guttenberg.
- 32:02Speaker 10: He was beloved. And then he overnight became a joke.
- 32:06Speaker 10: I don't know if it was all the sequels. I
- 32:07Speaker 10: don't know what it was.
- 32:09Speaker 8: I don't know.
- 32:09Speaker 10: If it was just... changing society.
- 32:12Speaker 8: It was something. It went from chicks thinking.
- 32:15Speaker 12: He was hot to, like you said, thinking he was
- 32:17Speaker 12: a joke.
- 32:17Speaker 8: There was a lot of changing society from that movie.
- 32:21Speaker 10: Yeah, the casual homophobia was shocking to me.
- 32:24Speaker 8: See, I had problems with the casual racism, so it's
- 32:28Speaker 8: a fun movie for everybody. But that was the 80s.
- 32:31Speaker 8: It was the 80s. It was the 80s. They made
- 32:34Speaker 8: fun of everything.
- 32:36Speaker 12: They made fun of everything. But it's okay, because we're
- 32:40Speaker 12: We're cool with it.
- 32:42Speaker 10: Maybe that's why I'm the way I am. I'm stuck
- 32:44Speaker 10: in the 80s. I can blatantly be mean and make
- 32:47Speaker 10: fun of everybody. I don't care. That's why people hate me.
- 32:53Speaker 10: Except for Randy.
- 32:53Speaker 11: He said earlier I was awesome.
- 32:57Speaker 10: So what did come out of that conversation? What did
- 33:00Speaker 10: we learn about ourselves from Police Academy? I don't want
- 33:02Speaker 10: to revisit it too much.
- 33:04Speaker 8: We've grown since. You learned lessons.
- 33:07Speaker 10: Okay.
- 33:08Speaker 12: Nobody wears half shirts anymore.
- 33:10Speaker 8: Why not?
- 33:10Speaker 10: That one guy did.
- 33:12Speaker 8: I'm getting me a one in the oven shirt. Yeah.
- 33:15Speaker 8: You know, I had no idea.
- 33:17Speaker 12: What that meant when I first saw that. I was like, oh.
- 33:20Speaker 12: And then I was like, oh, okay.
- 33:23Speaker 8: All right. Duh.
- 33:24Speaker 10: I love that when you revisit stuff later and you're like, oh,
- 33:27Speaker 10: that's what that means.
- 33:28Speaker 8: Yeah, that's what that meant.
- 33:29Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 33:30Speaker 5: Jeez.
- 33:31Speaker 10: All right.
- 33:31Speaker 8: Does that round out our geek week?
- 33:32Speaker 10: That's all I got.
- 33:34Speaker 8: That's a big old geek week.
- 33:35Speaker 11: Holy crap, there's a duck in this water.
- 33:37Speaker 10: Where?
- 33:38Speaker 8: Right there.
- 33:40Speaker 10: Oh.
- 33:41Speaker 8: He's cute.
- 33:43Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 33:44Speaker 10: Never mind. There is a duck in my bottle of water.
- 33:49Speaker 12: It's a picture of a duck.
- 33:52Speaker 8: It's not like a real duck. Full-sized duck. And it's
- 33:56Speaker 8: a rubber duck at that.
- 33:57Speaker 10: No, it's not. It's got little feet. Rubber ducks don't
- 34:00Speaker 10: have feet.
- 34:01Speaker 8: Some could.
- 34:02Speaker 10: Hey, it's all it's quacked up to be. I actually
- 34:06Speaker 10: used that logo as a slogan.
- 34:11Speaker 8: We'll take a break and be back with this week's movie.
- 34:37Speaker 16: It's been the longest winter without you I didn't know
- 34:44Speaker 16: where to turn to.
- 34:49Speaker 17: See, somehow I can't forget you After all that we've
- 34:56Speaker 17: been through Don't be.
- 35:00Speaker 10: Coming Thought I heard it out.
- 35:02Speaker 18: Who said no one Thinking that I deserve it And
- 35:07Speaker 18: now I realize that I really didn't know You didn't
- 35:11Speaker 18: know this Mean everything quickly, I'm learning To love again, all.
- 35:18Speaker 4: I know is.
- 35:19Speaker 18: I will be okay It's gonna hurt when it heals too.
- 35:29Speaker 4: Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. Better in time.
- 35:36Speaker 18: You know I really love you. Gonna smile cause I
- 35:41Speaker 18: deserve to.
- 35:42Speaker 11: Oh.
- 35:48Speaker 4: Oh, the time.
- 35:51Speaker 13: Is now, the time is here.
- 35:57Speaker 8: Now's the time to abide a cheer. A tasty life
- 36:00Speaker 8: where the price is right.
- 36:01Speaker 10: Well, look in here, you'll dig this site.
- 36:04Speaker 8: The moment's handy for a piece of candy. Just name
- 36:06Speaker 8: your brand, they're all so grand.
- 36:08Speaker 5: Hey, what do you.
- 36:09Speaker 8: Think of a nice cool drink?
- 36:10Speaker 4: The time is 1893, and.
- 36:11Speaker 8: Novelist and inventor H.G.
- 36:13Speaker 4: Wells invites you.
- 36:14Speaker 8: To join him on a flight from London.
- 36:16Speaker 1: To San Francisco.
- 36:39Speaker 19: In under a minute, you will be transported to a
- 36:42Speaker 19: bizarre and fantastic new age.
- 36:49Speaker 8: Today.
- 36:53Speaker 1: Time after time.
- 36:59Speaker 7: For H.G.
- 37:00Speaker 6: Wells, the modern world offers a spectacular array of revelations, embarrassments,
- 37:09Speaker 6: and delights.
- 37:10Speaker 10: Well, hello there.
- 37:13Speaker 8: Hello. What's up, Doug?
- 37:15Speaker 11: I beg your pardon?
- 37:16Speaker 8: You were saying, where to?
- 37:17Speaker 6: Could you please take me as quickly as possible to
- 37:20Speaker 6: the Hyatt?
- 37:21Speaker 1: But Wells has not come here as a tourist.
- 37:24Speaker 6: His visit will be somewhat more dangerous, for he is
- 37:27Speaker 6: pursuing Jack the Ripper, a villain who has eluded his
- 37:31Speaker 6: fate by escaping into time.
- 37:33Speaker 11: Ninety years ago, I was a freak.
- 37:38Speaker 10: Today, I'm an amateur.
- 37:40Speaker 6: A romantic adventure, a breathless chase around the world and
- 37:44Speaker 6: across a century.
- 37:48Speaker 1: Time after time.

- 38:39Speaker 4: Time is on my side.
- 38:45Speaker 8: Yes, it is. Time is on my side. Yes, it is.
- 38:56Speaker 12: All right, we're back.
- 38:57Speaker 8: And before we go to our remote recording here, we
- 39:01Speaker 8: just need to discuss the fact that it is... Lucy,
- 39:06Speaker 8: do you want to discuss... I don't even think we
- 39:08Speaker 8: need to discuss the person because you're going to get
- 39:10Speaker 8: that in the recording. You definitely get the excitement that
- 39:14Speaker 8: comes along with this segment. But I do want to
- 39:16Speaker 8: set the scene because... This is probably the first time
- 39:20Speaker 8: I've done a specifically celebrity interview seated in the floor
- 39:25Speaker 8: in the middle of a hallway as people are streaming past.
- 39:30Speaker 8: now I did do the porn game show with Andy
- 39:33Speaker 8: in the hallway and I think it's that same hallway
- 39:35Speaker 8: actually midway in while I was sitting there and I
- 39:38Speaker 8: watched the kids streaming by in their swimwear ready to
- 39:41Speaker 8: go jump down the water slide I was like this
- 39:44Speaker 8: is the one we were talking about porn in when
- 39:46Speaker 8: we were scarring those children so many years ago Anyway, so,
- 39:52Speaker 8: but yeah, I think it's that same hallway that somehow
- 39:55Speaker 8: we ended up there. Mostly because they kicked us out
- 39:57Speaker 8: of the room that I originally hoped we would do
- 40:00Speaker 8: it in. But no, it would be much easier if
- 40:02Speaker 8: they just booted us from there. So we ended up
- 40:05Speaker 8: sitting in the hallway with Doug Jones talking about Jane
- 40:10Speaker 8: Seymour being hot.
- 40:11Speaker 10: And can we add that he actually mentioned at first
- 40:15Speaker 10: he invited us up to his room to do it
- 40:16Speaker 10: there because that's how cool he is.
- 40:17Speaker 8: He's like literally the coolest dude ever.
- 40:19Speaker 10: And you turned that down?
- 40:21Speaker 8: There was a rush for the elevators. Yeah, there was
- 40:23Speaker 8: like 400 people sitting at the elevator.
- 40:24Speaker 11: Dude!
- 40:24Speaker 10: That's when we could use the grappling hook.
- 40:26Speaker 11: He made me walk up eight fucking flights of stairs.
- 40:29Speaker 12: It's only eight flights of stairs.
- 40:32Speaker 10: It's eight whole fucking flights of stairs.
- 40:35Speaker 8: You're okay.
- 40:36Speaker 11: I thought I was going to have a goddamn heart attack.
- 40:38Speaker 12: How will you make it through the fucking zombie apocalypse
- 40:40Speaker 12: if you can't conquer eight flights of stairs?
- 40:42Speaker 10: We're not running upstairs, probably.
- 40:44Speaker 11: If there are zombies, it'll be a completely different thing.
- 40:49Speaker 11: Going upstairs for no reason is one thing. Being chased
- 40:52Speaker 11: by a fucking herd of zombies is another.
- 40:54Speaker 12: Gotta be in shape.
- 40:56Speaker 10: I'm in shape. It's round.
- 40:58Speaker 8: You're not round. Come on, I'm falling apart.
- 41:02Speaker 12: I hit my fucking cars and trucks and I'm still okay.
- 41:06Speaker 8: Maybe I'll be flights of steps.
- 41:08Speaker 10: Well, good for you.
- 41:09Speaker 8: Damn straight.
- 41:10Speaker 10: Fucking A.
- 41:10Speaker 8: Hell yeah. Yeah.
- 41:12Speaker 11: Okay.
- 41:13Speaker 5: All right then.
- 41:15Speaker 8: Well, as I was saying before, I thought it might
- 41:17Speaker 8: be interesting to try to suggest coming back up here.
- 41:21Speaker 8: I was going to offer up Randy's room.
- 41:23Speaker 10: It was crowded.
- 41:23Speaker 8: I was like, I'm just dragging up some random famous
- 41:27Speaker 8: movie people. That's cool, right? But I thought it would
- 41:30Speaker 8: seem really creepy on our part to suggest that. You
- 41:33Speaker 8: can come back to our room. It's totally fine if
- 41:36Speaker 8: he suggests that we go back to his room.
- 41:39Speaker 12: He didn't slam a room key down in front of you?
- 41:44Speaker 8: Maybe. We'll get to that later. But, yeah, instead.
- 41:48Speaker 10: The point being, this guy's all just sweetness and light
- 41:51Speaker 10: and love.
- 41:52Speaker 8: Which I think is going to come through in this segment.
- 41:55Speaker 10: Was there rainbows involved? I felt maybe a unicorn.
- 41:59Speaker 11: Did he ride a unicorn at some point?
- 42:01Speaker 10: On a rainbow?
- 42:04Speaker 8: He's pretty damn awesome. So with that, yeah, we'll go
- 42:06Speaker 8: to this week's movie. Are you all.
- 42:08Speaker 7: Comfortable on the floor? Let's just sit on the floor.
- 42:11Speaker 8: Like kids. We are back here. This is Brian and Lucy.
- 42:16Speaker 8: And we have a... Do you want to say hi? Hi.
- 42:20Speaker 8: We have a special guest with us. We have actor,
- 42:23Speaker 8: you have many titles, but we'll go with actor Doug Jones.
- 42:26Speaker 7: I think actor, yeah, actor sums it up.
- 42:27Speaker 8: Okay.
- 42:29Speaker 7: Thank you for having me today.
- 42:30Speaker 14: By the way.
- 42:30Speaker 7: No problem.
- 42:32Speaker 8: Did you want to give, I guess, a quick rundown of,
- 42:35Speaker 8: you know, I don't know. I'd say most people know
- 42:37Speaker 8: you from probably like Pan's Labyrinth and then the Del
- 42:39Speaker 8: Toro stuff.
- 42:41Speaker 1: Guillermo Del Toro is kind of synonymous with my name
- 42:44Speaker 1: a lot, but he's like my Tim Burton if I
- 42:46Speaker 1: was Johnny Depp. We did Pan's Labyrinth together. Yes, I
- 42:50Speaker 1: played the faun and the pale man, both in that.
- 42:52Speaker 1: I also played Abe Sapien, the blue fish guy, in
- 42:54Speaker 1: his Hellboy movies, one and two. And I also played
- 42:58Speaker 1: the angel of death in Hellboy 2.
- 43:01Speaker 7: And I also met him on Mimic, actually.
- 43:05Speaker 1: But you also might know me as the Silver Surfer
- 43:07Speaker 1: in the Fantastic Four sequel.
- 43:09Speaker 7: Or Billy Butcherson, the.
- 43:10Speaker 1: Goofy zombie guy in Hocus Pocus, that Halloween classic now
- 43:14Speaker 1: with Bette Midler.
- 43:15Speaker 7: And Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy.
- 43:18Speaker 1: Also, I was the leader of the Gentleman on the
- 43:21Speaker 1: famous Hush episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
- 43:23Speaker 14: A classic.
- 43:24Speaker 7: A classic TV moment.
- 43:24Speaker 8: If ever there was.
- 43:25Speaker 7: Joss Whedon, genius.
- 43:27Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 43:27Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 43:28Speaker 7: The list goes on and on. I'm under lots of
- 43:30Speaker 7: rubber bits a lot of the time.
- 43:32Speaker 1: Speaking of rubber bits, I'm actually working on a movie
- 43:34Speaker 1: right now called Neighborhood Watch with Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn,
- 43:37Speaker 1: and Jonah Hill and me as an.
- 43:39Speaker 7: Alien from outer space. So think naughty boy humor mixed
- 43:44Speaker 7: with an alien. So there you go.
- 43:48Speaker 8: All right. Sounds good. I guess, unless you have anything
- 43:51Speaker 8: else to tell them beforehand, we can get into the movie. Sure, sure, sure.
- 43:55Speaker 1: Well, you know what? If we have a minute, this
- 43:59Speaker 1: has been a year of diversity for me. I've enjoyed
- 44:02Speaker 1: very much doing web series, which is kind of a
- 44:04Speaker 1: new medium that I've been happily dived, dove.
- 44:09Speaker 7: In, divved into.
- 44:10Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 44:13Speaker 1: I've very much enjoyed the web series format. It's like television,
- 44:17Speaker 1: but for short attention spans. And so right now I'm
- 44:21Speaker 1: currently on the current season five of The Guild, which
- 44:24Speaker 1: is a very popular web series by Felicia Day, starring her,
- 44:28Speaker 1: written by her. And I got to play a steampunk
- 44:32Speaker 1: dandy in season five. I'm in about four episodes. So
- 44:35Speaker 1: if you watch Season 5, the whole thing takes place
- 44:39Speaker 1: at a convention, which we're at right now, by the way.
- 44:41Speaker 7: I know the convention circuit really well.
- 44:42Speaker 1: So when I read the script for Season 5 and
- 44:44Speaker 1: the whole thing takes place at a gaming convention, Felicia
- 44:47Speaker 1: Day knows the convention circuit. She knows gaming. She's a
- 44:50Speaker 1: very smart writer. So she wrote it with all of
- 44:53Speaker 1: that back knowledge. And every cliche of a convention is
- 44:57Speaker 1: in this season, including the steampunk booth. And I'm one
- 45:02Speaker 1: of the steampunk dandies that's sort.
- 45:04Speaker 7: Of like very.
- 45:05Speaker 1: but I went over the top and I hope steampunkers
- 45:08Speaker 1: don't hate me for this, but I, I kind of
- 45:09Speaker 1: affected a fake British accent and an.
- 45:11Speaker 7: Attitude that was, you know, a little bit snooty.
- 45:14Speaker 1: But when you put those clothes on that, that style,
- 45:17Speaker 1: the steam, I love steampunk. It does make you want
- 45:20Speaker 1: to act different. Um, and you, you do feel like
- 45:22Speaker 1: you're the cool kid of the con.
- 45:23Speaker 11: You do.
- 45:23Speaker 1: You kind of do.
- 45:24Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 45:24Speaker 7: So I enjoyed exploring that.
- 45:26Speaker 1: Uh, she has another web series called dragon age redemption
- 45:29Speaker 1: right now.
- 45:30Speaker 7: Uh, uh, It's currently running.
- 45:32Speaker 1: It's six episodes, and I think episode five just came out.
- 45:35Speaker 1: Episode six comes out this coming, well, Tuesday, November 15th
- 45:40Speaker 1: will be the last episode that comes out. So whenever
- 45:43Speaker 1: this airs, I don't know.
- 45:45Speaker 8: Probably within the next week or so.
- 45:46Speaker 7: There you go.
- 45:47Speaker 1: So if you go to the Machinima channel on YouTube,
- 45:51Speaker 1: that's a channel on YouTube that's devoted to gaming, the
- 45:55Speaker 1: Dragon Age series is found there. Or if you do
- 45:57Speaker 1: a YouTube search for Dragon Age Redemption, you'll find it.
- 46:01Speaker 1: I play Cerebus, the main nemesis bad guy in that,
- 46:05Speaker 1: which is another heavily made-up character with rubber on my face.
- 46:08Speaker 1: I'm kind of bluish-grayish with a long white wig and
- 46:11Speaker 1: some horns on my head that were sawed off because
- 46:13Speaker 1: I'm a slave. It's a long story. But I have
- 46:15Speaker 1: magic in my hands. I'm a Qunari mage. For those
- 46:19Speaker 1: of you out there who know the Dragon Age lore,
- 46:22Speaker 1: Qunari mage will mean something to you. It didn't to
- 46:24Speaker 1: me because I don't know games. But the story was
- 46:26Speaker 1: written really well, and it was a great acting piece
- 46:28Speaker 1: to delve into, so I took it with open arms.
- 46:32Speaker 1: And again, working with Felicia Day was just brilliant and wonderful.
- 46:35Speaker 1: I also have a book coming out in February. Now
- 46:39Speaker 1: this I'm excited about. It is a coffee table photo
- 46:42Speaker 1: book that takes me back to my roots as a mime.
- 46:46Speaker 1: It's called Mime Very Own Book. And so it's full
- 46:50Speaker 1: of punny humor like that. You'll find images in there
- 46:53Speaker 1: that would depict a.
- 46:54Speaker 7: Mime as a terrible thing to waste. Once upon a mime.
- 46:58Speaker 7: Mime over matter. Mime after mime. Are you with me?
- 47:02Speaker 7: And also somewhere in mind, but.
- 47:03Speaker 1: That kind of leads us to our next topic, but
- 47:09Speaker 1: my very own book will be coming. It's available, uh, uh, February, 2012,
- 47:14Speaker 1: and you can go to amazon.com right now and preorder
- 47:18Speaker 1: and they'll deliver it in February. And if you go
- 47:20Speaker 1: to Amazon now, you get a really good deal. They'll
- 47:22Speaker 1: knock $ 10 off the list price.
- 47:24Speaker 7: So that's a good deal.
- 47:25Speaker 5: Very cool.
- 47:26Speaker 7: Excellent, right? I know, I know, I know.
- 47:28Speaker 8: Fantastic. All right, well, since we did the lead-in, I
- 47:33Speaker 8: guess if we want to roll into the movie.
- 47:35Speaker 10: Yes.
- 47:35Speaker 8: Or do our little set-up here.
- 47:36Speaker 7: It's time for Sofa Theater.
- 47:42Speaker 10: Arthur. Hi.
- 47:44Speaker 1: Yes, Mr.
- 47:44Speaker 8: Collier?
- 47:46Speaker 11: Arthur.
- 47:46Speaker 8: You know, in the Hall of History, there's a photograph.
- 47:49Speaker 8: A young woman. There's no nameplate.
- 47:51Speaker 1: Yes, that's Elise McKenna.
- 47:54Speaker 11: She was a famous actress in her day.
- 47:57Speaker 10: Starred in a play in the hotel theater.
- 47:59Speaker 1: I'm sorry, did you say there was a theater here?
- 48:03Speaker 1: Down by the lake. Really?
- 48:06Speaker 5: When was this play done?
- 48:08Speaker 13: Oh, uh, 1912. 1912.
- 49:01Speaker 1: Sofa Theater, I like it. Favorite place to watch a movie.
- 49:04Speaker 8: Definitely. So, it is time for a movie out on
- 49:06Speaker 8: Sofa Theater. This week's Sofa Theater feature is Somewhere in Time.
- 49:09Speaker 8: Somewhere in Time. The year is 1980. The plot, and
- 49:13Speaker 8: this is IMDb, and it's thin at best.
- 49:15Speaker 7: Okay.
- 49:16Speaker 8: A Chicago playwright uses self-hypnosis to find the actress whose
- 49:20Speaker 8: vintage portrait hangs in the Grand Hotel.
- 49:22Speaker 10: Yes.
- 49:24Speaker 8: Scratches the surface a little.
- 49:26Speaker 1: It happens.
- 49:26Speaker 10: Long and short of it.
- 49:27Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 49:28Speaker 10: Mostly short.
- 49:29Speaker 8: So, spoiler alert, I'm assuming we're going to go into
- 49:32Speaker 8: some very specific areas here. So if you need to,
- 49:35Speaker 8: stop now. Go watch the movie, because we don't want
- 49:37Speaker 8: to ruin it for you.
- 49:37Speaker 7: There you go. But it came out in 1980, so
- 49:40Speaker 7: I think it's been spoiled.
- 49:41Speaker 8: You're dragging your feet.
- 49:43Speaker 5: Come on.
- 49:45Speaker 8: So where should we begin with this one?
- 49:48Speaker 7: First of all, thank you for watching Somewhere in Time.
- 49:50Speaker 7: That's my suggestion.
- 49:51Speaker 8: It's been a while, but I've seen it.
- 49:53Speaker 10: I've never seen it, so thank you for introducing me
- 49:55Speaker 10: to it.
- 49:55Speaker 7: Did you not love it?
- 49:56Speaker 10: I did, but I was amazed that it was your choice,
- 49:59Speaker 10: and I love that it was your choice. So I
- 50:01Speaker 10: have to know why it was your choice.
- 50:03Speaker 7: There you go.
- 50:04Speaker 1: Because I'm kind of known for playing monsters in the horror, fantasy,
- 50:07Speaker 1: sci-fi comic book genres. So, of course, my favorite movie
- 50:10Speaker 1: is Somewhere in Time, which is this romantic set.
- 50:13Speaker 8: Swimmingly romantic.
- 50:14Speaker 7: Swimmingly romantic.
- 50:15Speaker 1: With the great music and the great location on Mackinac
- 50:18Speaker 1: Island in Michigan.
- 50:19Speaker 8: Oh, it's gorgeous.
- 50:20Speaker 7: Jane Seymour is in it, and I fell in love
- 50:23Speaker 7: with her in a minute. Stunning.
- 50:25Speaker 1: Christopher Reeve, of course. It was at the height of
- 50:27Speaker 1: his Superman fame when this came out, too. So in
- 50:30Speaker 1: the theater, the theatrical experience for me was.
- 50:31Speaker 7: Right?
- 50:34Speaker 1: And it did bring a little sci-fi in with the
- 50:36Speaker 1: time travel.
- 50:37Speaker 8: Come on, now.
- 50:38Speaker 10: A little Richard Matheson.
- 50:39Speaker 8: Definitely. Okay.
- 50:40Speaker 7: So it was a great mix of everything that I
- 50:42Speaker 7: did love.
- 50:43Speaker 1: And if I was banished to a deserted isle for
- 50:47Speaker 1: the rest of my life and was allowed one movie,
- 50:49Speaker 1: that would be the one I would take with me.
- 50:51Speaker 1: There you go.
- 50:51Speaker 10: I love that.
- 50:52Speaker 8: It would be really sad if you were by yourself.
- 50:54Speaker 10: Yeah, I know. You'd be like Christopher Reeve by the
- 50:57Speaker 10: end of the movie.
- 50:58Speaker 8: Yeah, I know.
- 50:59Speaker 10: The same thing out the window.
- 51:04Speaker 8: Wait, that was you in Skin and Bones. Wait a minute.
- 51:05Speaker 1: Oh, I know.
- 51:07Speaker 10: You look pretty close to that, actually.
- 51:08Speaker 1: A shell of myself, I know, pale and on my deathbed.
- 51:11Speaker 5: Yes, I was.
- 51:12Speaker 8: That's pretty close. Let's see. Where should we begin with
- 51:18Speaker 8: the plot? I mean, I think the most interesting thing
- 51:21Speaker 8: really is the sci-fi element. Because, I mean, it could
- 51:24Speaker 8: otherwise just be a very straight romance, but it's... It
- 51:28Speaker 8: enters into almost some weird territory.
- 51:32Speaker 1: Here's the thing that grabbed me about it was that
- 51:34Speaker 1: this modern-day, at the time 1980, this modern-day writer is
- 51:41Speaker 1: fed up with his current life.
- 51:43Speaker 7: Things aren't going well.
- 51:44Speaker 1: He needs to get out of Chicago, goes on a
- 51:46Speaker 1: road trip, and finds himself on Mackinac Island at the
- 51:51Speaker 1: Grand Hotel there, which is a gorgeous piece of.
- 51:54Speaker 7: Architecture set on Lake Michigan. Beautiful setting.
- 51:58Speaker 1: And so it just sets up, like, to me, that's like, oh, yes,
- 52:03Speaker 1: I want to get away to that place and clear
- 52:05Speaker 1: my head like he was doing in the movie. So
- 52:07Speaker 1: I could relate to that bit of it. And the
- 52:10Speaker 1: fact that he's looking through the Hall of History in
- 52:13Speaker 1: the Grand Hotel there, things that have happened in the
- 52:16Speaker 1: hotel over time.
- 52:18Speaker 7: And he sees that portrait on the wall.
- 52:20Speaker 1: And something about that portrait was kind of calling to him.
- 52:23Speaker 1: It was this beautiful woman, of course, Jane Seymour, with
- 52:26Speaker 1: a sepia-tone, old-style portrait. whatever year she came from. What
- 52:30Speaker 1: year do you go back to?
- 52:30Speaker 8: 1912.
- 52:31Speaker 1: 1912, there you go. And that moment was just so
- 52:36Speaker 1: chilling for me.
- 52:37Speaker 7: Oh my God, sorry, I didn't mean to.
- 52:39Speaker 1: He hadn't even seen the portrait yet, and it's calling
- 52:41Speaker 1: to him from sort of behind him.
- 52:43Speaker 7: And that music stirs, and your heart's pumping, like, what's
- 52:46Speaker 7: he going to see?
- 52:46Speaker 1: What's he going to see? What's behind him? What's behind him?
- 52:48Speaker 1: And it's that picture of this gorgeous woman, and it
- 52:50Speaker 1: gets closer, and he goes, ah. And he has to know,
- 52:54Speaker 1: who is she? Where did she come from? How do
- 52:56Speaker 1: I find her? So he's on this quest to meet
- 52:59Speaker 1: this love of his life that he feels in her
- 53:02Speaker 1: eyes something.
- 53:03Speaker 7: About that portrait was haunting him.
- 53:07Speaker 1: Can any of us relate to this where we've seen
- 53:09Speaker 1: a picture in a magazine of someone that's like that
- 53:12Speaker 1: haunts you and you wonder why do I feel a
- 53:14Speaker 1: connection to this person or whatever?
- 53:15Speaker 7: Well, he found out why he felt a connection to that.
- 53:18Speaker 7: Spoiler alert.
- 53:20Speaker 1: He finds his old college professor that had theorized that
- 53:24Speaker 1: maybe he could go back in time And so he did,
- 53:27Speaker 1: and he sort of hypnotized himself into believing that it
- 53:31Speaker 1: actually was 1912, and he falls asleep, wakes up, and
- 53:35Speaker 1: it is 1912. And he's still in the Grand Hotel,
- 53:37Speaker 1: but many, many years earlier. After dressing the part, and
- 53:42Speaker 1: getting his hair cut, and finding old coins to put
- 53:46Speaker 1: in his pockets, and doing the whole thing, the whole setup, I.
- 53:49Speaker 7: I just loved it. I loved it. Let's remember, the
- 53:54Speaker 7: beginning of the film, though, right? The beginning of the
- 53:58Speaker 7: film was him in college.
- 54:00Speaker 8: Yeah. His first directing play. Right, yeah.
- 54:02Speaker 1: And the critics loved it, and maybe someone from Broadway
- 54:05Speaker 1: might be showing up to put this up on a
- 54:08Speaker 1: bigger theater. And it was kind of like after the
- 54:11Speaker 1: play they were celebrating. This old woman is sitting in
- 54:13Speaker 1: the back of the theater just kind of watching, and
- 54:16Speaker 1: she slowly gets up and walks through the crowd, the
- 54:19Speaker 1: party crowd, after the show, comes up to him and says,
- 54:24Speaker 1: come back to me, as she places a pocket watch
- 54:27Speaker 1: in his hand, right? Now, the pocket watch becomes a
- 54:30Speaker 1: player in the film, right? Because later, as we go through,
- 54:36Speaker 1: he meets, now, okay, so this old woman was the
- 54:40Speaker 1: Jane Seymour character who had grown old, right, waiting for
- 54:44Speaker 1: him And.
- 54:44Speaker 7: So that's what I love.
- 54:46Speaker 1: There's this, who is that woman? Why does she want
- 54:48Speaker 1: him to come back to her? How could he have
- 54:50Speaker 1: ever met her before? And so we find out, oh,
- 54:53Speaker 1: the portrait, and that was her, and she's an actress
- 54:56Speaker 1: from back then, and oh, gosh, ah! So he goes back,
- 55:00Speaker 1: he finds her, they meet, and they're both the same
- 55:02Speaker 1: age then, back in time.
- 55:04Speaker 7: So, ah, ah, the love, the love. And then what
- 55:09Speaker 7: I love, though, is that.
- 55:12Speaker 1: he's got that pocket watch that the old lady gave
- 55:14Speaker 1: him as a part of his 1912 look. And so
- 55:21Speaker 1: when he finally, he and Jane Seymour consummate their love affair,
- 55:26Speaker 1: and it's like, oh, we're going to have a great
- 55:27Speaker 1: life together, and they're talking about it. And she says, oh,
- 55:30Speaker 1: what time is it? And she pulls out his pocket watch,
- 55:32Speaker 1: and she's holding it, when the dastardly horrible thing happens
- 55:35Speaker 1: in the film where he forgot and left a 1979
- 55:38Speaker 1: penny in his pocket. And he pulls it out, and
- 55:41Speaker 1: that brings him out of his state. And he sees
- 55:44Speaker 1: a modern-day thing in the palm of his hand. And
- 55:47Speaker 1: so he fades out of her view. She's screaming, Richard!
- 55:50Speaker 13: Richard!
- 55:52Speaker 7: Chilling moment in the film for me. It's kind of frightening.
- 55:54Speaker 7: In the theater, I was like, I goosebumped him.
- 55:56Speaker 10: I was like, what?
- 55:58Speaker 1: And then he all of a sudden wakes up in
- 56:00Speaker 1: modern day again, like just devastated that he'd lost. He
- 56:04Speaker 1: captured the love of his life and lost her within
- 56:06Speaker 1: a day. This is horrible.
- 56:08Speaker 7: This is horrible.
- 56:11Speaker 1: But the pocket watch was in her hands while she's
- 56:13Speaker 1: screaming and fading away. So the pocket watch becomes this
- 56:17Speaker 1: character that, where did it start?
- 56:19Speaker 8: That's what I was going to ask, actually. I love that.
- 56:22Speaker 1: And no, you can't define it because he got it
- 56:25Speaker 1: from this woman who came from yesteryear. She gave it
- 56:29Speaker 1: to him in modern day. He goes back in time
- 56:31Speaker 1: with it, gives it to her. She screams as he leaves.
- 56:34Speaker 1: and then she grows old and brings it back to him,
- 56:36Speaker 1: and it's on a continuous loop, isn't it?
- 56:39Speaker 8: It becomes a time loop.
- 56:40Speaker 1: In the car all the time.
- 56:42Speaker 8: It's like, where does that watch come from? Who made it?
- 56:44Speaker 7: Where did it get bought?
- 56:46Speaker 8: It becomes this weird mystery element to the movie. Right, right, right.
- 56:52Speaker 8: What can I do for you?
- 56:53Speaker 5: I have a question for you, sir.
- 56:55Speaker 1: Shoot, is time travel possible?
- 56:58Speaker 8: That is a question. Let me tell you something.
- 57:04Speaker 14: Richard, is it? Yes, sir.
- 57:07Speaker 8: I was in Venice in 1971, staying.
- 57:14Speaker 20: In a very old hotel. But I mean very old. Structured, furnishings, everything.
- 57:24Speaker 20: The atmosphere was aged, if you follow me. In my room,
- 57:31Speaker 20: I felt as though It was a century or more
- 57:34Speaker 20: earlier than 1971.
- 57:36Speaker 8: You understand?
- 57:38Speaker 5: Yes, sir.
- 57:39Speaker 8: So, in other words, then the location is very important.
- 57:42Speaker 8: Not all important, but essential. The rest is here. And
- 57:47Speaker 8: I don't know, just the whole, I thought that was
- 57:49Speaker 8: interesting in itself, the time travel without the conventions of
- 57:53Speaker 8: a machine. I mean, there's always some sort of, machinery involved.
- 57:57Speaker 7: It was more about the power of the mind.
- 57:58Speaker 10: Yeah, I like that they didn't bother with any sort
- 58:00Speaker 10: of like convoluted pseudoscience. It was just like, no, you
- 58:02Speaker 10: can just think about it and then you go there.
- 58:03Speaker 10: But I love how the book was like this really
- 58:05Speaker 10: thick book and it's like, well, wait, if that's the theory,
- 58:08Speaker 10: I'm pretty sure that could have been a pamphlet.
- 58:11Speaker 8: Just boil it down.
- 58:13Speaker 1: It was like, lie there and say it's that year.
- 58:15Speaker 10: He was like, I have to take you to another
- 58:17Speaker 10: room to tell you how it is. And then he
- 58:18Speaker 10: was like, okay, just lie there and think about 1912.
- 58:20Speaker 8: Do you have a tape recorder? You're almost there. You
- 58:23Speaker 8: are almost in 1912 right now.
- 58:29Speaker 7: Oh dear me.
- 58:30Speaker 10: Right?
- 58:30Speaker 14: Right?
- 58:31Speaker 8: But yeah, I think that's kind of the most interesting
- 58:34Speaker 8: element is that the whole time travel aspect. And yeah,
- 58:37Speaker 8: the fact that Well, I think there's some fun things, too.
- 58:40Speaker 8: The fact that for most of it, I kept going,
- 58:43Speaker 8: isn't somebody calling him out for wearing the same clothes
- 58:45Speaker 8: every day?
- 58:45Speaker 10: He's there for two or three days.
- 58:46Speaker 7: He bought one outfit at an antique shop, I know.
- 58:49Speaker 8: It's funny that by the end of the movie, she does, actually.
- 58:52Speaker 1: She's making fun of how dating. Yeah, we've got to
- 58:53Speaker 1: get you some new clothes.
- 58:54Speaker 10: And that becomes an important plot point. So it's actually
- 58:57Speaker 10: really beautifully constructed, I thought, the way all the pieces
- 59:00Speaker 10: sort of work. Yeah, yeah.
- 59:02Speaker 1: And that's why it lives on and on for me.
- 59:04Speaker 1: I'm not a multiple movie watcher. I'm a multiple watcher
- 59:07Speaker 1: of one movie. This is one that I can watch.
- 59:10Speaker 1: again and again and never tire of.
- 59:11Speaker 10: How many times do you think you've seen it?
- 59:13Speaker 7: Countless now. I own it on the DVD. I had
- 59:17Speaker 7: it on the VHS before that.
- 59:18Speaker 11: I did.
- 59:18Speaker 1: It's been through all the different incarnations.
- 59:20Speaker 8: Laser disc somewhere.
- 59:22Speaker 1: Well, here's the thing. When it came out in 1980,
- 59:24Speaker 1: the home video market is not what it is now.
- 59:26Speaker 7: And so I didn't know.
- 59:27Speaker 1: In fact, I didn't know it We didn't have one
- 59:29Speaker 1: back then. In 80, I don't think we had the
- 59:31Speaker 1: home video market.
- 59:32Speaker 8: It was right about there. It was coming on.
- 59:34Speaker 1: Didn't it kind of come into 83-ish, 82-ish?
- 59:37Speaker 8: It started hitting its drive then, yeah.
- 59:40Speaker 1: So in 80, I didn't know that I would ever
- 59:42Speaker 1: be able to see it again, so I went back
- 59:43Speaker 1: to the theater.
- 59:44Speaker 7: I did the same thing with Grease, by the way.
- 59:46Speaker 7: I went back to the theater, back to the theater,
- 59:49Speaker 7: because I thought, this is my only chance.
- 59:51Speaker 1: We're catching it on TV one day if they play it,
- 59:54Speaker 1: and I happen to be at the right spot.
- 59:56Speaker 8: Wow.
- 59:57Speaker 1: So I went back to the theater and had that
- 59:59Speaker 1: dark room, big screen experience with Somewhere in Time several
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: times before it left the theaters.
- 1:00:04Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: And it dragged all my friends back with me. You go, no, no, seriously,
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: trust me, you're going to see this. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:00:10Speaker 5: That's awesome.
- 1:00:11Speaker 8: Well, it does have, I mean, I was looking just visually.
- 1:00:15Speaker 8: I mean, it has the most lush cinematography. Like, they
- 1:00:18Speaker 8: really put so much time and effort into this.
- 1:00:20Speaker 7: The art direction.
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: And I think, and the music is such a big player.
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: I have the soundtrack as well on vinyl record.
- 1:00:28Speaker 10: Yes, I do.
- 1:00:28Speaker 7: Cause that's when it came out. Um, I now have
- 1:00:32Speaker 7: the CD as well.
- 1:00:32Speaker 8: I do. I do.
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: I've updated, but, uh, but, uh, the music, the, the,
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: the main theme.
- 1:00:38Speaker 8: Song, John Barry. Yeah.
- 1:00:44Speaker 7: Oh, gorgeous.
- 1:00:46Speaker 1: And, uh, but there's many, many, you know, uh, variations
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: of that song going or that, that, melody going through
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: the entire soundtrack and I again I can put that
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: soundtrack on a continuous loop and just drift away it's
- 1:00:59Speaker 1: good driving music good napping music you know what I'm
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: saying good stare.
- 1:01:03Speaker 8: Out the window you'll wake up in 1920 good napping
- 1:01:06Speaker 8: music oh no and hear the clip-clop of horses outside
- 1:01:09Speaker 8: my window.
- 1:01:10Speaker 7: That could happen awesome that'd be awesome.
- 1:01:16Speaker 8: Oh, let's see.
- 1:01:20Speaker 1: I'm going to sip my coffee now while you're looking
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: at your little.
- 1:01:23Speaker 8: Trying to think of other stuff we needed to address.
- 1:01:26Speaker 8: I don't know.
- 1:01:27Speaker 7: Well, I think I ruined the entire movie for anybody.
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: Point by point, here it goes.
- 1:01:31Speaker 8: Since we've already gone to that big movie, I mean,
- 1:01:34Speaker 8: that was almost my takeaway because it is this very
- 1:01:38Speaker 8: romantic movie, and it became. It has this huge following
- 1:01:41Speaker 8: even to this day of hardcore fans. Rabid fans, yes.
- 1:01:45Speaker 7: That do conventions.
- 1:01:46Speaker 10: Oh, my gosh.
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: I didn't realize that.
- 1:01:49Speaker 8: They have one at the hotel, too.
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: At the hotel.
- 1:01:52Speaker 8: Right, right.
- 1:01:52Speaker 7: Which I've never.
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: I didn't know there was a fan club or a society.
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: I think they call themselves a society. When I got
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: the DVD, finally, I watched the bonus features, and the
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: whole background of the crazy fan people are in that.
- 1:02:08Speaker 8: Hello, baby doggy.
- 1:02:09Speaker 1: Hilarious. So all of the fan folk get together, and
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: I learned that from the DVD thing. So now I
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: want to find them, and I want to go to
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: one of these conventions and dress up.
- 1:02:24Speaker 7: I want to do it.
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: I want to do the whole do.
- 1:02:26Speaker 8: In his really dated suit, don't you?
- 1:02:29Speaker 7: Yes, yes.
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: Because of my steampunk connection with the Guild now, the
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: woman who outfitted me for that show, she owns a
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: business called Clockwork Couture in Los Angeles.
- 1:02:43Speaker 7: In Burbank. And they'll ship all over the world, by
- 1:02:46Speaker 7: the way. But anyway, the pants I'm wearing right now
- 1:02:48Speaker 7: actually are from.
- 1:02:49Speaker 10: I was admiring those earlier.
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: Those are fantastic. The steampunk thing throws back to about
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: the right era. So I think I can wardrobe myself
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: for one of those conventions for some wearing time.
- 1:02:59Speaker 7: I can do it. I can do it.
- 1:03:00Speaker 8: Just show up in the full gear. The metal attachments
- 1:03:03Speaker 8: and all of it.
- 1:03:04Speaker 14: Right.
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: With computer gadgetry that's gas-powered or whatever.
- 1:03:08Speaker 8: On an island that won't let you drive a car.
- 1:03:11Speaker 7: Yeah, I know.
- 1:03:12Speaker 8: They had to make that adjustment, it said. It said
- 1:03:15Speaker 8: for him to work in that scene where he drives
- 1:03:17Speaker 8: up to the hotel and decides to stay there. They
- 1:03:19Speaker 8: had to get special permission from the government.
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: Right, because it's all bicycles and horse carriages and that
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: kind of thing on the island to this day. So
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: have you been there?
- 1:03:27Speaker 10: I've been there.
- 1:03:27Speaker 8: You've been to the Grand Hotel.
- 1:03:29Speaker 11: Yes.
- 1:03:29Speaker 10: And was it inspired by the movie, your voyage there?
- 1:03:31Speaker 1: No, it was inspired by the annual Jones family vacation.
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: We vacation somewhere different every summer. And that year it
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: happened to be in northern Michigan. And we're like, oh,
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: we've got to go to Magda Island.
- 1:03:44Speaker 7: So we rented the bikes.
- 1:03:48Speaker 1: Now, you can't just walk through the Grand Hotel lobby
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: like the hotel we're in right now. You can't just
- 1:03:54Speaker 1: walk in and go, oh, yeah, because it's a tourist
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: trap now. So they want you to pay to just
- 1:03:58Speaker 1: walk into the lobby and have a look around.
- 1:04:00Speaker 7: So I'm like, I'm not going to pay.
- 1:04:01Speaker 1: So I snuck through the horse carriage area, the horse
- 1:04:05Speaker 1: stables area. This is a very old hotel that had
- 1:04:08Speaker 1: horse drive-ups and horse stables for the guests.
- 1:04:12Speaker 7: That was their parking lot. So I went through there.
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: And it reminded me, like, oh, this is where Christopher
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: Reeve woke up after he was knocked in the head
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: by the bad guy, by Elise McKenna's manager. Jane Seymour's
- 1:04:24Speaker 1: a manager guy. He was the bad guy in the
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: movie that was trying to keep Christopher and Jane Seymour apart,
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: which was just an evil plot. And so I went
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: through that horse stable like, oh, my gosh, yes. And
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: then I kind of wound my way through the back
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: maid's entrance and the thing that, I ended up in
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: the offices area and this woman found me and she said,
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: do you need help? I said, I was just looking.
- 1:04:50Speaker 7: Around and I think I lost my way from the lobby.
- 1:04:52Speaker 7: Can you get me back there? So she's like, oh, yeah, honey.
- 1:04:56Speaker 1: That way, that way, make it right, make it left,
- 1:04:57Speaker 1: make it downstairs. So I end up in the lobby
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: for free.
- 1:05:00Speaker 13: Yes, I did.
- 1:05:02Speaker 7: Which I wouldn't advise. I shouldn't advertise to the kids.
- 1:05:04Speaker 7: What am I teaching the kids?
- 1:05:06Speaker 8: I'm sure now they've learned their lesson. They put a
- 1:05:08Speaker 8: big lock on that door.
- 1:05:10Speaker 7: No more horse stables.
- 1:05:11Speaker 8: No more of that Jones character wandering in.
- 1:05:13Speaker 7: You know what I'm saying?
- 1:05:14Speaker 8: Yeah, exactly, exactly.
- 1:05:16Speaker 11: Aw.
- 1:05:17Speaker 8: Well, we can get into the villain there.
- 1:05:21Speaker 7: Played by Christopher Plummer. Yes, who did a great job,
- 1:05:24Speaker 7: as he always does.
- 1:05:25Speaker 8: A very weird moment between the two, between Jane Seymour
- 1:05:30Speaker 8: and Christopher Plummer, where they're having that sort of conversation of,
- 1:05:33Speaker 8: is it him, and is this going to be it?
- 1:05:37Speaker 7: That was the fun part.
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: Okay, so when Christopher Reeves goes back in time, and
- 1:05:42Speaker 1: he finally sees her, he's going around the Grand Hotel asking,
- 1:05:46Speaker 1: is Elise McKenna here? She was a traveling actress with
- 1:05:49Speaker 1: a traveling touring company, a theater company. And they had
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: landed at the Grand.
- 1:05:54Speaker 7: Hotel to do their show.
- 1:05:56Speaker 1: And he knew that because he knew the history of
- 1:05:58Speaker 1: her whereabouts in 1912. So he went back to that
- 1:06:01Speaker 1: specific date to find her at that hotel specifically. So
- 1:06:05Speaker 1: looking around, looking around, and he finally finds her out
- 1:06:08Speaker 1: on her evening walk that she normally takes out by
- 1:06:11Speaker 1: the lake. And so, of course, the music stirs up.
- 1:06:14Speaker 1: And then he approaches her. He sees her from behind.
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: And she turns around by a tree. And the reveal
- 1:06:20Speaker 1: of the beautiful, glorious, angelic Jane Seymour.
- 1:06:23Speaker 7: And then he's approaching her slowly. And they come face
- 1:06:27Speaker 7: to face in a beautiful profile shot, backlit by the
- 1:06:30Speaker 7: sun and the lake.
- 1:06:31Speaker 1: And she says, is it you?
- 1:06:33Speaker 10: Right?
- 1:06:34Speaker 1: And after we see in modern day this old woman say,
- 1:06:37Speaker 1: come back to me, we're thinking, wait.
- 1:06:39Speaker 7: So it screws with your head, doesn't it?
- 1:06:41Speaker 8: It's still Canada.
- 1:06:44Speaker 1: And so he said, yes. Like, how did you know?
- 1:06:47Speaker 13: But yes.
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: And so then she's like, oh, oh. And she grabs her,
- 1:06:51Speaker 1: you know, pats her hair. And then the evil manager
- 1:06:55Speaker 1: comes up and says, at least it's time for dinner.
- 1:06:56Speaker 1: And takes him away from Christopher. So then he asks
- 1:07:01Speaker 1: her later in the.
- 1:07:02Speaker 7: Story, like the next day, why did you ask if
- 1:07:05Speaker 7: it was me? And she said, because.
- 1:07:07Speaker 1: The evil manager, Christopher Plummer, has talked about the one
- 1:07:11Speaker 1: man that will come and take her away. Because he
- 1:07:14Speaker 1: sort of groomed her from a teenager into this beautiful
- 1:07:17Speaker 1: actress that she is and the successful actress that she is.
- 1:07:21Speaker 1: And he didn't want anyone taking that away from him.
- 1:07:23Speaker 1: He was a very selfish man who had groomed and
- 1:07:25Speaker 1: wanted to take full credit for this woman's career.
- 1:07:28Speaker 8: So do you read it like he was just assuming
- 1:07:31Speaker 8: she would fall in love and quit acting? Like he
- 1:07:34Speaker 8: wasn't really tied into the time travel aspect?
- 1:07:38Speaker 11: Right.
- 1:07:38Speaker 1: Because Christopher Plummer, he had no idea that Christopher Reeve
- 1:07:42Speaker 1: had come from the future, of course. But he was
- 1:07:46Speaker 1: just worried that, because back in that day, in that era,
- 1:07:49Speaker 1: a woman falls in love, gets married, and whatever endeavor
- 1:07:51Speaker 1: she had of her own, quit.
- 1:07:53Speaker 7: And then she became all about the husband.
- 1:07:54Speaker 11: Right.
- 1:07:55Speaker 7: So he was worried that that would happen.
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: But Christopher Reeve came from a modern time when, hey, no, no, no,
- 1:07:58Speaker 1: women can do whatever they want, right?
- 1:08:00Speaker 7: So he was saying, of course she'll keep acting, of course.
- 1:08:02Speaker 1: And so Christopher Plummer, though, that didn't enter his mind
- 1:08:05Speaker 1: that that was a possibility. So that was a nice little,
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: that's why it worked.
- 1:08:09Speaker 13: Interesting, yeah.
- 1:08:09Speaker 8: That's why it worked.
- 1:08:10Speaker 10: Yeah, and he was so manipulative by saying that it
- 1:08:12Speaker 10: was going to be a bad thing, that this person
- 1:08:14Speaker 10: that came into her life, there was going to be
- 1:08:15Speaker 10: sort of an evil component to it. So that whenever
- 1:08:17Speaker 10: somebody did come into her life, she would immediately be wary.
- 1:08:20Speaker 1: That's why she.
- 1:08:20Speaker 7: Reached the age of 30 without ever dating anybody.
- 1:08:23Speaker 8: Looking like that.
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: And the fact that she had never dated anybody, your woman,
- 1:08:29Speaker 1: that first kiss.
- 1:08:30Speaker 10: Oh, oh, oh, yes. It went on forever.
- 1:08:33Speaker 8: The reach in.
- 1:08:34Speaker 7: Yes, the tentative, slow. And the way she said, it's
- 1:08:39Speaker 7: really happening, right?
- 1:08:40Speaker 13: Oh, oh, oh, oh.
- 1:08:42Speaker 8: This doesn't even seem like something they could make in 1980, really. No,
- 1:08:45Speaker 8: I know, I know, I know.
- 1:08:47Speaker 1: But I remember first kisses are like that, where it's like,
- 1:08:51Speaker 1: is it really happening? Is this really going to... I've
- 1:08:53Speaker 1: seen it on movies. I've read about it. I've dreamt
- 1:08:56Speaker 1: about it. Is it really happening? So here's this grown woman...
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: looking as gorgeous like she should have been macking out
- 1:09:01Speaker 1: with everybody. But I love the innocence of that moment.
- 1:09:06Speaker 7: I did, I did, I did.
- 1:09:07Speaker 10: Yeah, it's a great first kiss moment.
- 1:09:09Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:09:10Speaker 8: But, yeah, that part was like bringing the villain in
- 1:09:13Speaker 8: where he seemed almost aware of it because Jane Seymour's
- 1:09:16Speaker 8: character does seem aware of it, which is weird for
- 1:09:19Speaker 8: a time traveler. Usually the older version of yourself doesn't
- 1:09:22Speaker 8: have any idea what's going on. It's only like the
- 1:09:24Speaker 8: modern day that then goes back in time. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:09:27Speaker 8: So this time loop somehow has like informed her, I guess.
- 1:09:30Speaker 11: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:09:31Speaker 8: It's very strange. It did seem like it. It doesn't
- 1:09:33Speaker 8: explain it, but she seems to have this feeling of
- 1:09:36Speaker 8: something going on.
- 1:09:37Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 1:09:38Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 1:09:38Speaker 7: Because she kind of recognizes him in a certain way, too,
- 1:09:40Speaker 7: doesn't she?
- 1:09:41Speaker 8: But then sort of puts it off and doesn't want
- 1:09:43Speaker 8: him around, and it goes back to her normal thing.
- 1:09:45Speaker 8: But there's this feeling that she knows something's there.
- 1:09:49Speaker 14: Right.
- 1:09:50Speaker 1: And let's bring, now the photo that he's mesmerized by
- 1:09:53Speaker 1: in modern day that inspires him to go back in time.
- 1:09:56Speaker 10: That was a great moment.
- 1:09:57Speaker 7: Was that not a cool moment?
- 1:09:58Speaker 10: Yes, that was fantastic.
- 1:09:59Speaker 1: Because that photo was taken backstage during the play that
- 1:10:01Speaker 1: he was watching back in time.
- 1:10:03Speaker 7: He travels back in time, and he gets front row
- 1:10:05Speaker 7: seats to watch her in the show.
- 1:10:07Speaker 1: And so then at intermission, he goes backstage to find
- 1:10:12Speaker 1: her and say, great job. And she's getting a publicity
- 1:10:15Speaker 1: photo taken for the show backstage, and she couldn't really
- 1:10:18Speaker 1: find her motivation to pose for this. She was tired
- 1:10:21Speaker 1: and she was thinking about him and just wanted to
- 1:10:23Speaker 1: get on with it. And then she sees her beyond
- 1:10:26Speaker 1: the photographer and looks at him with that sort of
- 1:10:29Speaker 1: look in her eye, and then that's when click, and
- 1:10:32Speaker 1: that's the photo that was hanging in the modern-day Hall
- 1:10:35Speaker 1: of History. So that's why he recognized the look in
- 1:10:38Speaker 1: her eyes because it was at him. Isn't that an
- 1:10:40Speaker 1: awesome twist?
- 1:10:41Speaker 8: Oh, gosh. That was a good moment. It was a
- 1:10:43Speaker 8: good moment.
- 1:10:44Speaker 5: Come on now.
- 1:10:44Speaker 8: The other thing. that seems odd.
- 1:10:50Speaker 7: Because this all just seems odd to you.
- 1:10:52Speaker 8: Well, there's moments when I was just like, again, I
- 1:10:55Speaker 8: think I'm just a geek and I'm trying to figure
- 1:10:57Speaker 8: out the science of it. Yeah, don't do that.
- 1:10:59Speaker 10: You're going to have the.
- 1:11:00Speaker 11: World's biggest headache.
- 1:11:00Speaker 7: You're going to ruin the romance of it. You see
- 1:11:02Speaker 7: what I'm saying?
- 1:11:03Speaker 8: I kind of have a headache. I think that's what
- 1:11:04Speaker 8: it is.
- 1:11:05Speaker 7: Bless your little heart.
- 1:11:07Speaker 10: I think the idea is that it was always fated.
- 1:11:09Speaker 10: That it was just, it was what it was. Perhaps.
- 1:11:12Speaker 5: It was fated.
- 1:11:14Speaker 10: As all the great love stories are.
- 1:11:15Speaker 7: Exactly.
- 1:11:16Speaker 8: I will agree with her.
- 1:11:17Speaker 7: I'm going to agree with her.
- 1:11:19Speaker 8: Well then it I guess just to go into the
- 1:11:22Speaker 8: again the visuals it was funny they go through that
- 1:11:25Speaker 8: like scene of them walking out in the field there
- 1:11:28Speaker 8: almost and they've got all these people around them and
- 1:11:30Speaker 8: it does seem like I'm watching I'm like It seems
- 1:11:32Speaker 8: like they're working in every little cliche of the time.
- 1:11:34Speaker 8: They've got, like, guys doing the old-timey boxing. I was like,
- 1:11:38Speaker 8: it couldn't get any more cliche if a kid wheels
- 1:11:39Speaker 8: a wheel by with a stick, and then he does,
- 1:11:42Speaker 8: and I'm just like.
- 1:11:42Speaker 5: Right, right, right.
- 1:11:43Speaker 8: And then I found out that was on purpose. Like,
- 1:11:46Speaker 8: it actually said that the director said he wanted them
- 1:11:49Speaker 8: to reenact poses from, like, Impressionist painting.
- 1:11:52Speaker 10: I was wondering that.
- 1:11:53Speaker 8: It's exactly that.
- 1:11:54Speaker 10: I was wondering that because I noticed that and I
- 1:11:56Speaker 10: was like, oh my gosh. And then also there's like
- 1:11:57Speaker 10: a Whistler's Mother sort of thing at the beginning where
- 1:11:59Speaker 10: she's looking, where the older, when she's wearing the black
- 1:12:02Speaker 10: dress and she's holding the.
- 1:12:03Speaker 1: Yeah, so she comes back after the come back to
- 1:12:05Speaker 1: me moment.
- 1:12:05Speaker 10: I feel like there are lots of painterly moments throughout
- 1:12:08Speaker 10: the film.
- 1:12:08Speaker 7: And the lighthouse and the boat and the way it
- 1:12:10Speaker 7: was docked.
- 1:12:11Speaker 10: Oh my gosh, that was stunning.
- 1:12:13Speaker 1: Yeah, on their day of love walking out in the park.
- 1:12:16Speaker 1: A lot of painting moments in that day.
- 1:12:18Speaker 10: I'll tell you the one moment that I was reminded
- 1:12:20Speaker 10: that it was a European director. And I was like, oh,
- 1:12:22Speaker 10: only a European director would do that. It was amazing.
- 1:12:24Speaker 10: It was when he's coming out before he sees her
- 1:12:26Speaker 10: for the first time. And he walks out of the
- 1:12:28Speaker 10: building and there's somebody painting inside a room. And they
- 1:12:31Speaker 10: shut the blind. And so it's black. And so you
- 1:12:35Speaker 10: see the reflection of her. So you're seeing her for
- 1:12:37Speaker 10: the first time. in the same shot as him seeing
- 1:12:40Speaker 10: her for the first time and it's stunning and it
- 1:12:42Speaker 10: was a good touch it was a really beautifully composed
- 1:12:45Speaker 10: moment yes yay.
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: Who is it?
- 1:12:54Speaker 8: Richard Collier good morning um you sleep alright? wonderfully oh
- 1:13:07Speaker 8: sorry I didn't sleep too well either.
- 1:13:11Speaker 7: But I was on a porch chair, so, you know.
- 1:13:13Speaker 10: Don't you even have a room?
- 1:13:15Speaker 1: Yes, I will, at 918.
- 1:13:16Speaker 8: Room 416.
- 1:13:20Speaker 5: I mean, would you like to go to breakfast?
- 1:13:24Speaker 10: It's 6 a.m.
- 1:13:25Speaker 5: Oh, well, later?
- 1:13:27Speaker 10: I don't eat breakfast on performance days.
- 1:13:29Speaker 8: Oh, no, of course not.
- 1:13:31Speaker 10: Lunch?
- 1:13:32Speaker 8: Mr.
- 1:13:32Speaker 11: Collier.
- 1:13:33Speaker 1: No, no, no, it's not Mr.
- 1:13:34Speaker 5: Collier.
- 1:13:35Speaker 8: Isn't that your name?
- 1:13:36Speaker 1: Well, yes, that's my name.
- 1:13:37Speaker 8: Shh, shh, shh.
- 1:13:37Speaker 10: What?
- 1:13:38Speaker 8: Marie, she's sleeping in the other room.
- 1:13:40Speaker 9: Marie?
- 1:13:41Speaker 4: My maid.
- 1:13:42Speaker 5: Oh, I'm sorry.
- 1:13:45Speaker 1: Of course, my name is Mr.
- 1:13:47Speaker 5: Collier, but I was hoping maybe you'd call me by
- 1:13:48Speaker 5: my first name, Richard.
- 1:13:50Speaker 10: Why should I?
- 1:13:51Speaker 5: I don't know. Just hoped you would.
- 1:13:56Speaker 1: When can I see you today?
- 1:13:58Speaker 8: I shall be rehearsing all day.
- 1:14:00Speaker 7: All day?
- 1:14:00Speaker 8: That's crazy.
- 1:14:03Speaker 1: Will you walk with me?
- 1:14:04Speaker 5: Can you do that much?
- 1:14:08Speaker 1: Woman, if you do not walk with me, I shall
- 1:14:09Speaker 1: go mad.
- 1:14:10Speaker 8: Hostilely insane and do crazy things to myself.
- 1:14:15Speaker 5: Walk with me. Please. Say, Richard. That's me.
- 1:14:21Speaker 8: Thank you.
- 1:14:22Speaker 1: I would love to walk with you and talk with
- 1:14:23Speaker 1: you and get to know you and not be afraid
- 1:14:25Speaker 1: of you and resolve everything.
- 1:14:27Speaker 8: Say yes.
- 1:14:31Speaker 10: Yes. One o'clock.
- 1:14:35Speaker 8: Outside the hotel.
- 1:14:39Speaker 5: She's crazy about me.
- 1:14:40Speaker 10: I remember.
- 1:14:41Speaker 8: There was something that I was thinking, viewing it from
- 1:14:44Speaker 8: today's perspective. And it's funny, even in 1980, it wasn't
- 1:14:47Speaker 8: as much of an issue as definitely not in 1912.
- 1:14:49Speaker 8: But like.
- 1:14:52Speaker 8: Looking at it from this perspective, I was like, this
- 1:14:53Speaker 8: guy just seems like a crazy stalker. He would.
- 1:14:56Speaker 13: He was.
- 1:14:57Speaker 7: And he was.
- 1:14:58Speaker 8: He knew all about her. He followed her there. And
- 1:15:01Speaker 8: I was like, everything he kept saying to her, I
- 1:15:03Speaker 8: was like, if you said this to a woman now,
- 1:15:05Speaker 8: you would be on the floor and security would be
- 1:15:07Speaker 8: hauling you out.
- 1:15:08Speaker 1: Hauling you out.
- 1:15:08Speaker 5: Exactly.
- 1:15:09Speaker 10: Well, it actually reminded me of a movie. Have either
- 1:15:11Speaker 10: of you seen the movie Happy Accidents? A Brad Anderson movie.
- 1:15:14Speaker 10: It came out probably 2000. And it's a fascinating film.
- 1:15:17Speaker 10: I think really overlooked. It has Vincent D'Onofrio and Marissa
- 1:15:20Speaker 10: Tomei in it. And he plays this man who has
- 1:15:22Speaker 10: come from the future. I can't remember exactly what the
- 1:15:24Speaker 10: premise is. I think he sees a photo of her, actually,
- 1:15:27Speaker 10: and comes back from the future to find her. This
- 1:15:29Speaker 10: is his true love. He comes back to find her.
- 1:15:31Speaker 10: And so at one point, he decides to tell her,
- 1:15:33Speaker 10: I came from the future. She can't figure out. She's
- 1:15:35Speaker 10: always had bad luck with men. And there's this man,
- 1:15:37Speaker 10: and he's perfect. And then he says... Honey, I just
- 1:15:39Speaker 10: need you to know that I came from the future.
- 1:15:41Speaker 10: And she's like, WTF? What is going on here? I'm
- 1:15:45Speaker 10: in love with this crazy person. This person's a lunatic
- 1:15:48Speaker 10: just like all the others. And it turns into this
- 1:15:50Speaker 10: really beautiful movie about trust and how much love does
- 1:15:53Speaker 10: it take to trust somebody that when they say I
- 1:15:55Speaker 10: came from the future, you believe them. And it's a
- 1:15:59Speaker 10: fascinating film.
- 1:16:00Speaker 1: I like that.
- 1:16:00Speaker 8: You might want to see it.
- 1:16:02Speaker 14: Nice.
- 1:16:02Speaker 7: Because we would think someone was crazy.
- 1:16:04Speaker 8: Yeah, absolutely. That's the natural reaction.
- 1:16:06Speaker 7: It works on film, but not in this hallway. I
- 1:16:07Speaker 7: know what you're saying. I know what you're saying.
- 1:16:10Speaker 8: So, yeah, so many of these, that element of him
- 1:16:13Speaker 8: just following her around and knowing so much about her
- 1:16:15Speaker 8: seemed weird from today's perspective.
- 1:16:17Speaker 7: There would be a court order that comes with that.
- 1:16:19Speaker 8: Definitely, definitely.
- 1:16:20Speaker 7: It's true.
- 1:16:21Speaker 8: And then, yeah, just telling someone that you're from the
- 1:16:23Speaker 8: future would probably not pan out well either. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:16:27Speaker 8: The other thing, I guess just the wrap-up, and this
- 1:16:30Speaker 8: I thought was interesting because, I mean, it is. It's
- 1:16:33Speaker 8: considered one of the greatest romances, at least of modern times.
- 1:16:37Speaker 8: And I don't know. Again, me being the cynical bastard
- 1:16:40Speaker 8: I am, I was just like, so wait, really? Other
- 1:16:44Speaker 8: than these couple of days they were together, their lives
- 1:16:46Speaker 8: were horrible.
- 1:16:48Speaker 10: Like, she lived, like, for years.
- 1:16:49Speaker 8: Like a prisoner. Like a prisoner. Her career just died,
- 1:16:53Speaker 8: and she lived, like, old and lonely and depressed for, like,
- 1:16:57Speaker 8: how many years there, waiting for him to come back around. Right, right, right.
- 1:17:00Speaker 8: And then he starved himself to death.
- 1:17:02Speaker 10: Spoiler alert.
- 1:17:02Speaker 7: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:17:04Speaker 10: It was a much more grisly finale than I was anticipating.
- 1:17:07Speaker 8: I was not expecting it. Again, it had been years
- 1:17:09Speaker 8: since I'd seen it, so I was just like, I
- 1:17:11Speaker 8: remembered it being a little more romantic, and then it
- 1:17:13Speaker 8: got to the end, and I was like, this is
- 1:17:14Speaker 8: kind of sad. Other than that last shot, it could
- 1:17:19Speaker 8: be a very more Romeo and Juliet kind of a romance.
- 1:17:23Speaker 7: Well, let's make something positive out of it.
- 1:17:25Speaker 1: Like, live each one day at a time, and if
- 1:17:29Speaker 1: you love someone, tell them today, because you may not
- 1:17:31Speaker 1: have tomorrow.
- 1:17:31Speaker 8: There you go.
- 1:17:32Speaker 7: There's our lesson.
- 1:17:32Speaker 8: That's a good spin on it.
- 1:17:34Speaker 1: Yay, okay.
- 1:17:35Speaker 8: And then in the end, the clouds will part, and
- 1:17:37Speaker 8: Jane Seymour will be waiting for you.
- 1:17:38Speaker 10: And unfortunately, she'll still be young, hot Jane Seymour, not
- 1:17:42Speaker 10: crazy old Whistler's mother Jane Seymour.
- 1:17:44Speaker 8: Exactly.
- 1:17:45Speaker 1: Great.
- 1:17:47Speaker 10: Oh, man.
- 1:17:49Speaker 8: Were there any other things we needed to hit on
- 1:17:51Speaker 8: that one? I think, yeah, it's definitely interesting. I found
- 1:17:55Speaker 8: a lot more in the time travel.
- 1:17:58Speaker 10: Yes, you did.
- 1:17:58Speaker 8: But, again, I mean, I think I knew the romance
- 1:18:01Speaker 8: end of it. So I think I was going in
- 1:18:03Speaker 8: trying to find other stuff and trying to find some
- 1:18:05Speaker 8: other interesting spins on it. Right, right. But, yeah, it
- 1:18:09Speaker 8: is ridiculously well shot. The score is amazing.
- 1:18:12Speaker 13: Yep.
- 1:18:12Speaker 7: Both of them.
- 1:18:13Speaker 8: I mean, as good as Jane Seymour looks, this is
- 1:18:15Speaker 8: Christopher Reeve in his prime.
- 1:18:17Speaker 1: He's a beautiful man.
- 1:18:18Speaker 8: It's hard not to like anything that's on screen.
- 1:18:21Speaker 7: Two perfect people going at it with each other. Of
- 1:18:23Speaker 7: course you're going to watch that.
- 1:18:26Speaker 1: Who wouldn't watch that?
- 1:18:27Speaker 8: So, yeah, it definitely hits all the notes it needs
- 1:18:30Speaker 8: to on this. It's an interesting movie.
- 1:18:33Speaker 7: Well, thank you for approving of my choice. I appreciate it.
- 1:18:36Speaker 10: Thank you so much.
- 1:18:36Speaker 1: You're precious.
- 1:18:37Speaker 8: Definitely. So, yeah, anything else? I guess, do you want
- 1:18:41Speaker 8: to tell people to find you online? Yes.
- 1:18:44Speaker 7: Very good.
- 1:18:45Speaker 1: Yes, if you're looking for me on the interweber net,
- 1:18:48Speaker 1: you can find me at the.com. That is the clearinghouse
- 1:18:53Speaker 1: for all things Dougie on the web.
- 1:18:54Speaker 8: And possibly the best website name I've ever heard.
- 1:18:58Speaker 10: Right.
- 1:18:58Speaker 7: Webmaster Helen came up with it. She runs it from Scotland.
- 1:19:01Speaker 7: I love her madly. She's like a sister to me.
- 1:19:05Speaker 1: But there will be a button there for Twitter, which
- 1:19:08Speaker 1: is actordougjones on Twitter.
- 1:19:10Speaker 7: You can find me on the Facebook.
- 1:19:12Speaker 1: I can't befriend you, unfortunately, anymore on my personal page
- 1:19:15Speaker 1: because I have too many. But you can subscribe to
- 1:19:18Speaker 1: that personal page, or you can hit the Like button
- 1:19:21Speaker 1: on my fan page or my professional page. Both are
- 1:19:24Speaker 1: Doug Jones, and it will be a picture of me.
- 1:19:28Speaker 1: But you'll know it's me because I post every day
- 1:19:30Speaker 1: almost on there. So it's really me if you see
- 1:19:33Speaker 1: the Doug Jones person talking.
- 1:19:35Speaker 7: That's me.
- 1:19:35Speaker 8: Sounds good. All right, well, we'll tell them to go
- 1:19:38Speaker 8: find you and look for you at upcoming conventions.
- 1:19:40Speaker 1: Yes, yeah, well, there's an appearances page on thedougjonesexperience.com, and
- 1:19:44Speaker 1: I'll have all my upcoming conventions, which I do the
- 1:19:47Speaker 1: circuit around the country as much as I possibly can
- 1:19:49Speaker 1: between movies.
- 1:19:50Speaker 5: Definitely.
- 1:19:51Speaker 7: Yay, all right.
- 1:19:52Speaker 8: All right, I think that is it. So thank you
- 1:19:55Speaker 8: once again for talking to me.
- 1:19:56Speaker 7: This has been great fun, yeah.
- 1:19:57Speaker 8: Thank you.
- 1:20:08Speaker 14: Where there is time there is tomorrow Somewhere in time
- 1:20:22Speaker 14: all sorrows pass to memory And so.
- 1:20:32Speaker 7: The end is the.
- 1:20:35Speaker 9: Beginning Somewhere in time, we are as we're meant to be.
- 1:20:55Speaker 7: Where there is time.
- 1:20:58Speaker 1: No cards to book, just go get it.
- 1:21:00Speaker 11: You'll be sorry you missed your chance to enjoy it.
- 1:21:23Speaker 2: Dear Mr.
- 1:21:23Speaker 19: Vernon, we accept the fact that we have to sacrifice
- 1:21:26Speaker 19: a few hours a week to podcast about whatever you
- 1:21:28Speaker 19: find important. But we think you're crazy asking us to
- 1:21:31Speaker 19: write an essay telling you who we think we are.
- 1:21:33Speaker 19: You see us as you want to see us, in
- 1:21:35Speaker 19: the simplest terms and the most convenient definitions. But what
- 1:21:39Speaker 19: we found out is that each of us is a
- 1:21:40Speaker 19: podcast about other podcasts.
- 1:21:42Speaker 8: A podcast about television.
- 1:21:44Speaker 10: A podcast about films.
- 1:21:46Speaker 5: A podcast about music.
- 1:21:48Speaker 8: A podcast about books.
- 1:21:49Speaker 19: Does that answer your question?
- 1:21:51Speaker 8: Sincerely yours, The Podcast Podcast.
- 1:21:55Speaker 19: The Podcast Podcast is your one-stop source for all the
- 1:21:57Speaker 19: podcasts on the internet. Each week we have very special
- 1:22:00Speaker 19: guests from some of the best shows on iTunes so
- 1:22:01Speaker 19: that you can decide if you should check them out
- 1:22:03Speaker 19: or keep on moving. Find us at thepodcastpodcast.com or search
- 1:22:07Speaker 19: for us in the iTunes store by looking for me,
- 1:22:10Speaker 19: Fozzie Bear.
- 1:22:10Speaker 10: That's F-O-Z-Z-I-E-B-A-R-E.
- 1:22:16Speaker 8: Hi, this is Emma Caulfield, and you're listening to Movie Meltdown.
- 1:22:51Speaker 11: It's part of your problem, you know.
- 1:22:52Speaker 10: You haven't seen enough movies.
- 1:22:54Speaker 8: All of life's riddles are.
- 1:22:55Speaker 5: Answered in the movies.
- 1:22:58Speaker 10: And now, on with the show.
- 1:23:05Speaker 4: You and I together in our.
- 1:23:13Speaker 21: Lives Secret times we're never free Then why can't I.
- 1:23:40Speaker 6: Let myself tell lies And watch you die.
- 1:23:45Speaker 21: Every day I think back to the times.
- 1:23:51Speaker 6: When dreams were what mattered Talk, talk, and youth, naivete.
- 1:24:02Speaker 10: You said you'd never let me down.
- 1:24:05Speaker 6: But the horror stampede rages in the name of desperation.
- 1:24:13Speaker 10: Is it all.
- 1:24:15Speaker 6: Just wasted time? Can you look at yourself when you think.
- 1:24:22Speaker 4: Of what you left behind?
- 1:24:25Speaker 6: Is it all just wasted time? Can you live with
- 1:24:30Speaker 6: yourself when you think of what you've left behind?
- 1:24:45Speaker 8: All right, we are back. Do we have any rounding out?
- 1:24:49Speaker 8: I mean, we had the whole Doug Jones experience, literally. So,
- 1:24:53Speaker 8: I mean, do we have any other fun memories from
- 1:24:56Speaker 8: the unnamed convention?
- 1:24:59Speaker 10: No, I thought he winked at me. And don't you
- 1:25:01Speaker 10: say that he winks at every girl.
- 1:25:03Speaker 8: I was going to say he's done that before.
- 1:25:05Speaker 12: You know, I'm not going to say that he winks
- 1:25:06Speaker 12: at every girl.
- 1:25:08Speaker 10: Thank you.
- 1:25:11Speaker 8: I saw him. I don't think he winked at me.
- 1:25:12Speaker 10: He winked at me. It's all good. Nobody creepy we
- 1:25:16Speaker 10: can be this time, so that's okay.
- 1:25:20Speaker 12: I saw my friend Chuck.
- 1:25:22Speaker 8: If you're ever at these movie conventions, buy a magnet
- 1:25:24Speaker 8: from Chuck.
- 1:25:26Speaker 12: Skull 13.
- 1:25:27Speaker 11: I would say something about that one guy who did
- 1:25:29Speaker 11: the Johnny Egg painting, but I really don't remember his name.
- 1:25:32Speaker 8: It's out in the car. We'll look and see.
- 1:25:35Speaker 10: But he's awesome.
- 1:25:36Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 1:25:37Speaker 8: Shop at his booth, too.
- 1:25:38Speaker 12: He does all kinds of cool paintings.
- 1:25:40Speaker 10: Except for the clowns.
- 1:25:41Speaker 12: Not so many clowns as much.
- 1:25:42Speaker 8: Anymore, but yeah, he'll do more stuff.
- 1:25:46Speaker 10: That guy's awesome.
- 1:25:48Speaker 11: There's a lot of people.
- 1:25:50Speaker 10: There was a lot of people this time.
- 1:25:52Speaker 12: And there were some with questionable hygiene, which kind of
- 1:25:55Speaker 12: threw me back into Comic-Con. But then even Comic-Con didn't
- 1:26:00Speaker 12: smell that bad.
- 1:26:01Speaker 10: I don't know. It smells like a dead skunk out
- 1:26:04Speaker 10: in the hallway.
- 1:26:05Speaker 8: Yeah, that's just out in the hallway there. I don't
- 1:26:06Speaker 8: know what's going on.
- 1:26:07Speaker 12: No, I'm talking about a couple people that had body
- 1:26:10Speaker 12: funk odor, and I was just like, God, really?
- 1:26:12Speaker 8: Come on, man. Oh, geez. There was one moment where
- 1:26:17Speaker 8: I was walking down the hallway, and I'm behind a
- 1:26:24Speaker 8: seven-foot man with a pig head on, and I'm passing
- 1:26:28Speaker 8: by all these other random monsters and creatures and bloody faces,
- 1:26:32Speaker 8: and then there's a lady that passes by me on
- 1:26:35Speaker 8: the other side going the opposite direction, and she's got
- 1:26:38Speaker 8: a baby in a backpack. I was like, oh, this
- 1:26:41Speaker 8: poor child. What a scarred little bastard this kid is
- 1:26:45Speaker 8: going to be. I mean, think about it. He's just
- 1:26:48Speaker 8: at the point of probably remembering stuff right about now.
- 1:26:51Speaker 8: Because he wasn't a newborn. He was big enough that.
- 1:26:54Speaker 12: I kind of think that kids, depending on how they're
- 1:26:57Speaker 12: brought up, if they're brought up to be scared of
- 1:27:00Speaker 12: stuff like that, then yeah, they're going to be scared
- 1:27:01Speaker 12: of it. But if they're brought up not to be
- 1:27:03Speaker 12: scared of stuff, I mean, come on. My kid grew
- 1:27:06Speaker 12: up with Beetlejuice and mostly Buffy.
- 1:27:08Speaker 11: And yet still afraid of stormtroopers.
- 1:27:10Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 1:27:10Speaker 8: Why stormtroopers?
- 1:27:11Speaker 12: Why stormtroopers? Because they scare her for some weird reason.
- 1:27:14Speaker 8: Well, they're evil. They are. But luckily they're a bad shot,
- 1:27:18Speaker 8: so you don't have to worry. Yeah. Vampires? Not so much. Beetlejuice?
- 1:27:23Speaker 8: She loves Beetlejuice. He's your friend if you watch the cartoon. No,
- 1:27:26Speaker 8: I'm talking about the movie. He's a jackass in the movie.
- 1:27:29Speaker 8: But she loved him. I love him too, but he's
- 1:27:31Speaker 8: a jackass.
- 1:27:33Speaker 11: I think we should talk about how excited Lucy was
- 1:27:38Speaker 11: to see Alex Winter come.
- 1:27:40Speaker 10: It took me aback. I was not anticipating being that excited.
- 1:27:46Speaker 10: I mean, I think he's fantastic. I think he actually
- 1:27:49Speaker 10: might be a genius. But I wasn't expecting to, like, get.
- 1:27:52Speaker 8: All gushy and weird. I expect that when I meet everybody.
- 1:27:57Speaker 11: Yeah, it's very rare that I get, I mean, I
- 1:27:59Speaker 11: have social anxiety, so it's weird for me to be
- 1:28:00Speaker 11: able to talk to people, but for me to get that, like,
- 1:28:02Speaker 11: oh my god, oh my god, shaking, like, it's, yeah,
- 1:28:06Speaker 11: that's only happened like a handful of times.
- 1:28:08Speaker 10: Yeah, it was just this completely involuntary thing. I still
- 1:28:11Speaker 10: don't really understand what was happening.
- 1:28:13Speaker 8: I don't think it ever happens to me. No, it doesn't.
- 1:28:17Speaker 10: You have to stop and think and make sure.
- 1:28:21Speaker 8: Just to double check, yeah.
- 1:28:22Speaker 10: Okay.
- 1:28:23Speaker 8: I can talk to anybody pretty much.
- 1:28:25Speaker 11: Dude, you are the most friendly talking to damn anybody
- 1:28:28Speaker 11: person I've ever met. You talk to me for God's sake.
- 1:28:32Speaker 11: But yeah, it was pretty funny.
- 1:28:33Speaker 10: She was so happy.
- 1:28:34Speaker 11: It was pretty good i was excited for her. And
- 1:28:38Speaker 11: I got his autograph too. He didn't seem very pleased.
- 1:28:42Speaker 10: But I guess he was nice enough.
- 1:28:44Speaker 11: He just seemed kind of like he didn't really care
- 1:28:46Speaker 11: to be there, I guess.
- 1:28:48Speaker 8: He seemed like he was ready to go.
- 1:28:49Speaker 12: I wanted to talk to him about Freak, but he
- 1:28:52Speaker 12: just looked like he didn't really want to get into.
- 1:28:54Speaker 8: Any kind of conversation. I don't think it was just here,
- 1:28:57Speaker 8: because I've seen other stuff of him out there and
- 1:29:00Speaker 8: Even then, he seems very uncomfortable. And I don't know
- 1:29:03Speaker 8: that it was, like, people talking to him about that,
- 1:29:05Speaker 8: because he seemed okay with the fans. I think it
- 1:29:07Speaker 8: was just, like, the whole situation. Like, he just, I
- 1:29:10Speaker 8: don't know. He always seems kind of like, eh, do
- 1:29:14Speaker 8: we have to? He never really seems excited about it,
- 1:29:18Speaker 8: but he does. He's a good sport about it.
- 1:29:19Speaker 11: I didn't like that I had to hand my money
- 1:29:22Speaker 11: to the douchebag next to him.
- 1:29:24Speaker 10: He wouldn't actually take my money.
- 1:29:25Speaker 8: I had to hand it to the douchebag.
- 1:29:26Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 1:29:27Speaker 8: That's his job.
- 1:29:28Speaker 10: But I don't like that guy. He's a douchebag. But,
- 1:29:33Speaker 10: I don't know. I guess we didn't really have any
- 1:29:35Speaker 10: bad experiences. I didn't punch anybody. That's good.
- 1:29:39Speaker 8: I didn't get punched.
- 1:29:39Speaker 10: That's pretty exciting.
- 1:29:40Speaker 8: It was a good day.
- 1:29:42Speaker 11: Randy gave me a hug and I didn't punch him.
- 1:29:44Speaker 8: My headache's slowly going away. The time continuum's time loop
- 1:29:49Speaker 8: space barrier broke my brain. Oh, it'll come back as
- 1:29:53Speaker 8: soon as we get in the car. Yeah, probably. I
- 1:29:55Speaker 8: was trying to decide which one brought it on the
- 1:29:58Speaker 8: time loop or the car ride here. I don't know which,
- 1:30:00Speaker 8: but I'm slowly recovering.
- 1:30:03Speaker 10: I'm blaming the skunk smell in the hallway.
- 1:30:06Speaker 8: Nice. Anything else from this fun-filled activity?
- 1:30:12Speaker 10: I'm trying to think. Hold on.
- 1:30:15Speaker 11: Nope.
- 1:30:16Speaker 10: I got a free shirt.
- 1:30:17Speaker 11: And a free pen.
- 1:30:19Speaker 8: I had to get a syringe pen. That's pretty awesome.
- 1:30:22Speaker 8: I somehow managed not to buy anything. Yay.
- 1:30:25Speaker 13: Mm-hmm.
- 1:30:26Speaker 8: Yay for me.
- 1:30:29Speaker 11: I bought Alex Winter's autograph, but he signed it over
- 1:30:31Speaker 11: somebody else, so it's like if I ever meet that guy,
- 1:30:33Speaker 11: he's screwed because he can't sign over himself.
- 1:30:35Speaker 8: You just got to pretend like he's Alex Winter.
- 1:30:38Speaker 10: He signed over the blonde, Brooke... I forget that guy's name.
- 1:30:43Speaker 10: Brooke McAllister. I'm totally making that shit up. I was
- 1:30:46Speaker 10: about to say, if you're even close, I'm so impressed.
- 1:30:48Speaker 10: You should totally Google that shit. I'm pretty sure it's
- 1:30:52Speaker 10: Brooke something.
- 1:30:53Speaker 8: I know the other one. But I keep forgetting.
- 1:30:56Speaker 10: Billy Wirth.
- 1:30:57Speaker 8: Yeah, Billy Wirth.
- 1:30:58Speaker 10: I like that Billy Wirth. Whatever happened to Billy Wirth?
- 1:31:00Speaker 10: He did a convention a couple years ago.
- 1:31:01Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:31:02Speaker 8: That was a good potential. They were both at work.
- 1:31:04Speaker 11: Yeah, now that I got that picture and I want
- 1:31:05Speaker 11: to get the other two to sign it. See, I
- 1:31:07Speaker 11: think the blonde could just sign over Kiefer Shudderlund's face
- 1:31:09Speaker 11: because I'm never going to see him anyway. No.
- 1:31:11Speaker 8: Oh, then 24 convention. It'll happen. No, it won't.
- 1:31:15Speaker 10: And everybody but him will be there. Yep.
- 1:31:17Speaker 8: Because he's Kiefer Nam Sutherland.
- 1:31:19Speaker 12: And he'll still be making more of these off-the-man fucking
- 1:31:22Speaker 12: TV shows. So he won't have to do conventions.
- 1:31:26Speaker 4: Exactly.
- 1:31:27Speaker 11: I wanted to go get back on the elevator because
- 1:31:29Speaker 11: I saw that Sean Patrick Flannery and Michael Rooker were
- 1:31:32Speaker 11: getting ready to get on. I was like, dude, Jay,
- 1:31:34Speaker 11: go get on the elevator. So we can see we've
- 1:31:36Speaker 11: been on the elevator with Michael Rooker and Sean Patrick Flannery.
- 1:31:38Speaker 10: And he was like, no. Especially because it was a
- 1:31:43Speaker 10: really scary elevator that seemed to stop and start at
- 1:31:46Speaker 10: strange times. You could have been stuck in an elevator.
- 1:31:48Speaker 10: With Sean Patrick Flannery. With his face.
- 1:31:51Speaker 12: It's not like you could tell he'd be worried or anything.
- 1:31:54Speaker 10: I can mold it for him to a different.
- 1:31:59Speaker 10: What look do you want now?
- 1:32:00Speaker 11: Worried? Concerned?
- 1:32:01Speaker 10: Let me mold that into your face.
- 1:32:04Speaker 8: You're going to be his personal face assistant.
- 1:32:08Speaker 10: Watch his room be like one door over.
- 1:32:11Speaker 8: Hey Sean, what's up? Face wrangler.
- 1:32:15Speaker 10: I want to be Sean Patrick Flannery's face wrangler. That
- 1:32:17Speaker 10: would be so awesome. Book him with a stick.
- 1:32:21Speaker 8: Oh, Lord.
- 1:32:24Speaker 10: Michael Rooker.
- 1:32:26Speaker 8: He is cool.
- 1:32:27Speaker 13: He is.
- 1:32:28Speaker 11: But I couldn't go to his room. They wouldn't let
- 1:32:30Speaker 11: me in the Michael Rooker room.
- 1:32:32Speaker 8: Cheers.
- 1:32:32Speaker 10: I know. Because I wouldn't get in the line.
- 1:32:34Speaker 8: I don't know who's in there. Why am I getting
- 1:32:36Speaker 8: in this line?
- 1:32:37Speaker 10: Bitch wouldn't tell me who was in there.
- 1:32:38Speaker 11: I'm like, I was trying to look at the door.
- 1:32:39Speaker 11: She's like, you can't go in there unless you're in
- 1:32:41Speaker 11: the line.
- 1:32:41Speaker 10: I'm like, well, who's in there? He had me in
- 1:32:43Speaker 10: a line to get in.
- 1:32:43Speaker 8: I'm like, but I'm... I know that. That's not what
- 1:32:45Speaker 8: I'm talking about.
- 1:32:46Speaker 10: What line? I can't see who's in the room.
- 1:32:48Speaker 8: You're not allowed to see. You just wait in a line.
- 1:32:51Speaker 8: It's like a grab bag. You wait in a line
- 1:32:53Speaker 8: and you get somebody's autograph. Like, I'll tell you who.
- 1:32:55Speaker 11: I'm not that bad for Sean Patrick Flannery because they
- 1:32:57Speaker 11: put him in the Walking Dead room because I figured
- 1:32:59Speaker 11: they had Norman Reedus from Walking Dead.
- 1:33:01Speaker 10: And him together.
- 1:33:02Speaker 11: That way you get the Boondock Saints thing.
- 1:33:04Speaker 10: But then Norman Reedus canceled.
- 1:33:06Speaker 11: So it was just Sean Patrick Flannery sitting in the
- 1:33:08Speaker 11: Walking Dead room.
- 1:33:09Speaker 8: I didn't hear Norman's canceled.
- 1:33:11Speaker 10: Yeah, he wasn't there.
- 1:33:12Speaker 9: Hmm.
- 1:33:13Speaker 10: Hmm.
- 1:33:14Speaker 11: He was having trouble anyway from what I was reading
- 1:33:15Speaker 11: online about his plane wasn't coming in until like today
- 1:33:18Speaker 11: or late last night or some shit.
- 1:33:20Speaker 8: He's become like kick ass on The Walking Dead now.
- 1:33:23Speaker 10: I haven't watched the new season yet.
- 1:33:24Speaker 8: He is awesome on it. Like he just I don't know.
- 1:33:28Speaker 8: He's kind of stepped up in the plot line a
- 1:33:31Speaker 8: little bit.
- 1:33:31Speaker 11: Awesome.
- 1:33:32Speaker 10: Because he is awesome.
- 1:33:32Speaker 8: I think I work with the real life his character.
- 1:33:37Speaker 10: But can't be as awesome.
- 1:33:38Speaker 12: This guy's eh I don't know but he's He's pretty
- 1:33:42Speaker 12: whacked out. He's fucking 900.
- 1:33:46Speaker 7: Degrees of crazy.
- 1:33:47Speaker 10: Because he carries around squirrels.
- 1:33:50Speaker 8: You know what?
- 1:33:50Speaker 12: I wouldn't be half surprised. He does do a lot
- 1:33:53Speaker 12: of hunting. And he's just, like I said, he's.
- 1:33:58Speaker 8: Wacky as all hell. Kind of looks a little bit
- 1:34:01Speaker 8: like him, too.
- 1:34:05Speaker 10: I like Norman Reedus now. At first, he was just
- 1:34:07Speaker 10: the weird-looking brother.
- 1:34:09Speaker 11: And now Sean Patrick Flannery has become.
- 1:34:10Speaker 8: The weird looking brother. I'm telling you.
- 1:34:13Speaker 11: I switched to the second movie because we started watching
- 1:34:16Speaker 11: Boondock Saints 2 and we're like, who's that chunky guy
- 1:34:20Speaker 11: playing Norman Reedus' brother?
- 1:34:22Speaker 10: Oh, wait. That's Sean Patrick Flannery.
- 1:34:25Speaker 8: I'm telling you, he's definitely stepped up on The Walking Dead.
- 1:34:28Speaker 8: He's a lot more likable this time around and just
- 1:34:32Speaker 8: a little cooler as well.
- 1:34:34Speaker 10: I liked him the first season, though.
- 1:34:36Speaker 8: He just, well, I mean, he was... sort of caught
- 1:34:38Speaker 8: up in the whole Michael Worker thing. So, you didn't
- 1:34:41Speaker 8: like Michael Worker. Oh, you weren't supposed to, mind you,
- 1:34:43Speaker 8: but you didn't like Michael Worker's character. So, he's the
- 1:34:46Speaker 8: brother and he's sort of caught up in the whole
- 1:34:48Speaker 8: family thing and you didn't trust him because of that. So,
- 1:34:52Speaker 8: he's sort of proving himself as a character this time around.
- 1:34:55Speaker 10: It's pretty interesting.
- 1:34:57Speaker 12: Your shoes kind of remind me of xylophones.
- 1:34:59Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 1:35:01Speaker 8: I was just like looking at your shoes.
- 1:35:03Speaker 13: I hadn't thought of that.
- 1:35:04Speaker 8: And I was like thinking, I was like, if I
- 1:35:05Speaker 8: had a thing, I would go ding, ding, ding.
- 1:35:07Speaker 10: You're right. You're absolutely right.
- 1:35:10Speaker 8: Will that round up the convention here? Yeah.
- 1:35:14Speaker 10: Convention, which will not be named.
- 1:35:15Speaker 8: Convention-filled activities.
- 1:35:17Speaker 10: Yeah, I think so.
- 1:35:21Speaker 8: All right. Otherwise, that about does it. We will return
- 1:35:25Speaker 8: next week. Same geek time, same geek feed. Thanks for listening. Bye.
- 1:35:29Speaker 10: Bye.
- 1:35:30Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:36:01Speaker 13: We'll be right back.
- 1:36:26Speaker 6: Have the time to lose an open mind a time
- 1:36:31Speaker 6: to choose would you care to take a look at
- 1:36:34Speaker 6: how you read.
- 1:36:35Speaker 4: Me like a book you're.
- 1:36:38Speaker 13: In the wind on my.
- 1:36:41Speaker 8: Side you're.
- 1:36:46Speaker 13: Can I take you?
- 1:36:48Speaker 6: Come with me We'd never make a fulfilling dream If
- 1:36:55Speaker 6: I say I'd take you there Would you go?
- 1:36:58Speaker 13: Would you be scared?
- 1:37:00Speaker 4: Time is always on.
- 1:37:03Speaker 13: My side Time is always on my side Don't be afraid,
- 1:37:10Speaker 13: you're safe with me.
- 1:37:12Speaker 10: Safe as any soul could be.
- 1:37:23Speaker 13: Thank you. Thank you.
- 1:40:21Speaker 6: Like a wolf in sheep's clothing You try to hide
- 1:40:26Speaker 6: your deepest sins Of all the things that you've done
- 1:40:29Speaker 6: wrong And I know where you belong Death is always
- 1:40:35Speaker 6: on my side Death is always on my side Make
- 1:40:44Speaker 6: you an offer you can't reach You've only.
- 1:40:47Speaker 10: Got your soul to lose.
- 1:40:49Speaker 13: Eternally into my mind Oh Oh Oh.
