- 0:40And as mentioned, Andrew joins us this morning. Andrew, you're keeping dry
- 0:44out there, well I am today. Yes, there was some nice rain
- 0:48the other night, sure was. For the second time in a matter of
- 0:52weeks, my son has been held in his school's basement because of tornado sirens
- 0:58going off. So it's a little uh, a little uh scary and some
- 1:03of those winds can be can be pretty nasty, but rain also can do
- 1:07some pretty uh, pretty terrible things to a house that's not prepared. It
- 1:11can't it it can and you know, the weather just just odd. You
- 1:15know that. When I this past fall, when they said, you know,
- 1:19we have an El Nino winner, and I said, yeah, I
- 1:21wonder what that means. I have no idea. I said it should be
- 1:23dry and mild. Well it was dry and it was mild. But now
- 1:30it's like we're a month ahead. Doesn't it seem like we're like a month
- 1:33a hell? Yea? And I mean we had tornadoes and hail in February
- 1:38and now we had severe thunderstorms. A lot of people might not know this,
- 1:42but I am a admittedly, I'm a dance dad. So I've got
- 1:47two daughters who are competitive dancers, and they dance and wanta key and I
- 1:52live in Lodi, and they have dance four to five nights a week through
- 1:57the entire year. We are constantly running back and forth and back and forth.
- 2:01And my older daughter gets picked up at nine o'clock at night on Monday
- 2:06nights. She yeah, right, and she never complained. She loves it.
- 2:09So I give her some props for that. But so I was driving
- 2:14through that storm on Monday night and the lightning was insane, and after I
- 2:21picked her up, it had been raining the whole time. But it started
- 2:23to rain to whereas I actually had to pull over, I could not see
- 2:25anything. I started the hydroplane and I'm thinking, holy crap, some people's
- 2:30basements are going to get flooded and not. We had no less than three
- 2:35calls the next day people to set appointments to get their gutters looked at because
- 2:39they had water in their basement. And this wasn't like a you know,
- 2:44yeah, if our gutters don't work right, we always get hot water in
- 2:46the basement. No, they had never had water in their basement, but
- 2:51early spring gutters hasn't been cleaned out from last winter, gutters overflowing water and
- 2:57basement And I just wonder how many people were out there thinking, oh,
- 3:00man, I hope everything's working right because gutters start to overflow in a rain
- 3:07like that, and say your some pump can't keep up, or you don't
- 3:09have a some pump, or the some pump stops working, or God forbid,
- 3:14the power goes out. People get water in their basement. So I
- 3:17kind of want to touch on the importance of a gutter system, the importance
- 3:22of a properly functioning gutter system that is the right size, with the proper
- 3:25amount of downspouts and kind of what we do and how we make sure that
- 3:30that's going to work properly for you all the time, because there's nothing worse
- 3:36than us. It's dark out, we've got a storm coming, or it
- 3:38is storming, it's pouring rain, and you're just thinking, oh, man,
- 3:44I hope my gutters are working properly. You know. One of the
- 3:46things that I've learned from you Andrew over the years is the importance of not
- 3:52just having great gutters. Gutter shut are the best out there. Having that
- 3:55like the part that you think of and see, but also things like the
- 3:59downs and making sure that where they're located and attached to the to the roof
- 4:03and how they're attached is important. And then of course that that that run
- 4:08to get that water away from the house. It's it's obviously it all starts
- 4:13with the gutters because they're doing the sorting, separating and catching, but everything
- 4:16every other piece has to be top notch as well, or else the system
- 4:20will not perform as great as it can. And that's one of the great
- 4:24things about working with the folks your team ELERSALM Services. They know these products,
- 4:28They know this stuff inside and out. We do. And and so
- 4:31when we start with the gutter system, first of all, if we come
- 4:34out to your house and do a free estimate, it's not just walk around,
- 4:40you know, run the measuring wheel around the house and go here,
- 4:42it's going to be X. It's a it's a full inspection. We're going
- 4:46to inspect the gutters that you have and let you know why they might not
- 4:50be working properly because let's take out the factor of the non clock. Okay,
- 4:57a lot of people can put a gutter up that works, that works,
- 5:00but it has to be flashed properly. What I mean by flash properly
- 5:02is there has to be a piece of metal flashing that goes up under the
- 5:05shingles and then drops down into the gutter. That can be custom made or
- 5:11typically what a contractor is going to use is your drip edge, which with
- 5:15your current roof system, which is great, works perfect because that water needs
- 5:19to be able to come off the shingles. It will roll off the shingles,
- 5:24it will roll around the shingles, I should say, kind of surface
- 5:26tension will happen and it can actually then go behind the gutter. But if
- 5:29it's flashed properly, it's going to go into the gutter. Next thing that
- 5:31needs to happen is that those gutters need to have a slight slope to a
- 5:35pitch, so as soon as the water hits the bottom of the gutter,
- 5:38it is running the direction that we want it to go, which is towards
- 5:42your down spout or where the exit point is in the gutter. Then we
- 5:47need to have enough down spouts because if it rains too hard you don't have
- 5:51enough down spouts, the gutter can become overwhelmed and it will then overflow,
- 5:57and that's where we see real problems. Now, if it's flashed properly,
- 6:00it's sloped properly, you've got the proper amount of down spouts. The next
- 6:03thing that has to be looked at is the extension where it comes away from
- 6:08the house. That has to go out far enough and make sure that it
- 6:12hits an area of your property that has a negative or a positive grade,
- 6:16meaning it's going away from your house, so it's not going to come out
- 6:20and then come straight back to the house. Now, all of that has
- 6:25to be in proper working order and they have to not be clogged. Yeah,
- 6:30so that's where gutter shutter comes into play. We're going to take a
- 6:33look at all of that stuff, and our trained technicians who have been installing
- 6:38this, I say for hundreds of I have a technician who's been installing for
- 6:43us since twenty eleven. He's installed over a million feet of gutter. He's
- 6:47been there, done that, scene it all. So now we're going to
- 6:51take a properly flashed gutter. We're going to make sure that the gutter is
- 6:56sloped properly. You're going to have the proper amount of down spouts with proper
- 7:00drainage away from your house, and we're going to use gutter shutter and we
- 7:04guarantee it will never clog. So what do I mean by all of that
- 7:08pure peace of mind? We can get a rain like we got Monday night.
- 7:12There's absolutely nothing that anyone has to worry about. So that's that's peace
- 7:18of mind. It's worth every penny that it costs. It's pretty amazing too.
- 7:23And you talk about and for folks that don't know how deep this stuff
- 7:27goes, hear Andrew talk about all the different areas where things all have to
- 7:31be done absolutely right and perfectly. For people who don't know, there's actually
- 7:35many, many more. But to do a radio show on that, it
- 7:40would be people be like, okay, all right, we get The cool
- 7:43thing is the guys at Larks and they know all of those points and they
