- 1:49Valentine. Right, puld it to Standard Oil Company of California invites you to
- 2:16let George do it. In a moment, we'll begin tonight's adventure of George
- 2:30Valentine. But first, which one of these gasoline qualities do you think your
- 2:36car could do without? Bull power, quick starting, fast, warm up
- 2:40area, blending, vaporlock prevention at enough, smooth acceleration or economy milate.
- 2:49Right, your car needs all of these qualities. That's why it's important to
- 2:53you to know that you get not one, not two, but all eight
- 2:58of these high performance qualities in correct balance when you buy Chevron Supreme Gasoline,
- 3:04drive in soon and fill up with Chevern Supreme Gasoline at any Standard station or
- 3:08independent Chevron gas station where they say and mean we take better care of your
- 3:15car. And now tonight's story Come to the Cosbar, A transcribed adventure of
- 3:28George Valentine. Oh, there's nothing like terriss, George, you kind of
- 3:51like it. I love it, you know, our dream just sitting in
- 3:54a little cafe like this, it's like they do in the movie. Well,
- 3:59that's too badly, I have to go home tomorrow, back to the
- 4:00old routine. You. It's so peaceful here that I never lived. Look,
- 4:08if you'd look where you are going. Don't make a scene, George.
- 4:11The man said he was sorry. Sorry, I hope so I'll spelling
- 4:14our drinks. He dropped something on the table. It's a card with something
- 4:17written on it. It's a stupid way to everything. It's your Valentine.
- 4:20I am taking this way of approaching you because I do not want to do
- 4:26so openly. If you are interested in an assignment renownerative for dangerous, please
- 4:30follow me. I will be waiting across the street. We're kind of waiting,
- 4:34George. Yes, so I see it right, I'm on a job.
- 4:38It might mean we could stay longer in Paris, and I'm going to
- 4:40follow in George, or I'll follow him, all right, there's only a
- 4:43punch him in the nose. Come on the building, all right, I'm
- 5:00down this hall. Yeah, this way, let me look into this.
- 5:08If you think I'm going to let you go in there these books and sorry
- 5:14that I had to reach you this way, please quickly kind of a strange
- 5:20way to try to engage your man's services, if that's your idea. Again,
- 5:25my apologies to sit down, won't you. Okay? I have made
- 5:31inquiry for Dutch mister valentinin and these books, and I think you adjusted people.
- 5:36I am well at all depends I don't know who you are. Again,
- 5:42meet up, I am pr carrol Age and distorted here are made.
- 5:47Ah, yeah, I suppose it's okay. You will do not speak frank
- 5:55at all. This books here is a better Skarlar than I am. That's
- 6:00all right to me. I picked up a little friendship for us in the
- 6:02invasion of Africa and the drive food France during the last war. Ah,
- 6:09you know I was there. My government has made a thorough check of your
- 6:13record. I think this is a complete dossier that's quite full. Starts off
- 6:23with a lot of things I've forgotten. Never mind, okay, I still
- 6:29advent you've covered my career quite early. You will forgive the necessity. I
- 6:32am sure this matter is something in which my department cannot appear officially, but
- 6:40it is nevertheless very important. Perhaps it's something I wouldn't care about it,
- 6:45orhaps it's something I couldn't do. Oh no, no, no. All
- 6:47you have to do is to eat a man and get a small package of
- 6:51papers from me and return them to me. Sounds a home But I suppose
- 6:56there's a catching it somewhere of than. I do not understan tending the catch,
- 7:00as you say, but it may not be as easy as. One
- 7:05reason we have chosen you is your familiarity with Algiers. Your record shows that
- 7:10you were there ideas would you say, ideas? Well, yeah, that
- 7:17is right, do not the casba of course? Seven Well, as a
- 7:21matter of fact, it was our bounds for us when I was stationed.
- 7:26Sorry, all right, all right, doesn't mean I didn't get there anyone
- 7:30in Algiers who didn't see the cans. But am I supposed to go there
- 7:34to pick up this package? Yes, you will go to a place which
- 7:39I will tell you are later. You will pick up this package and return
- 7:43it to me. And that's all. Not quite all that the man you
- 7:46will meet there will have to be sure that you other one expects. I
- 7:51suppose I'll have the proper identification. That is very difficulty. Lines you will
- 7:57not identify yourself George Valon inpact as Frank Bennam an English science. Please,
- 8:05I'm afraid that's not too easy. I don't know a molecules. Maybe we've
- 8:09got to call the whole thing off, or at least tell me what's black
- 8:13of all is? Why why can't this fellow Bannam go himself? Cannot go
- 8:18in the coast? It is impossible. And do you get this prost's to
- 8:22meet insticular? We'll try and get hold of something in the fall, speaking
- 8:26very cisely, but after all my country is friendly with England. Expect a
- 8:31little more dytain. In one month, fed Dack took certain plants from the
- 8:37briefcase we were supposed to deliver to the American embassament. So far we have
- 8:41not reported the dead, but we have located feddak in Algeo. I see
- 8:46you want to get those plans back Bend and planned to meet feddak in algy
- 8:52received the plans and then take them somewhere behind the iron cuttain. Denn an
- 8:58Englishman, had a great miss Brooks that there are a number of English scientists
- 9:03just as there are French American scientists who believe, sincerely, perhaps that's the
- 9:09best way to keep the world from war is to secure every plan of secret
- 9:15ways for the Eastern Channel. Yeah, so I've heard. As I said,
- 9:20my country cannot act officially, not cannot. But if you consecure these
- 9:26plans so the time I return them to the American Embassy will save us needless
- 9:31explanation and much embarrassed you understand, Yeah? Sure, right, so then
- 9:37you will take the assignment to the guys. No, no, no,
- 9:43I introduced the right there, Oh, contram should Professor Bendom was traveling with
- 9:48his assistant, a Miss Moncrieft. Now where did you find a lesson?
- 9:54Suppose Professor Bennam as Moncrift got their first. That would be impossible, Miss
- 9:58Brooks the Professor's date and the Moron Creek piece in jet. You're very thorough
- 10:05the official to be. I suppose this Fade Dark doesn't admit I'm the professor?
- 10:11Will I have been in his identity card? And of course fade Doc
- 10:15will ask you such a question. I hope you'll give me the answers.
- 10:20Now, how about your plans? You would take the plane from the bullshit?
- 10:43You think I'm going to see the cars bart last Yeah, well you're
- 10:46going to be very disappointed. Angel I'll tell you that right now, most
- 10:50of the streets are all up and downstairs. They're narrow and dirty and smelly.
- 10:56Dramatic. A man doesn't keep his hands in his own pockets, he's
- 10:58not able to find someone else's hands there. Let me see if I have
- 11:03this code business right. I go to the shopping the casbon. Two short
- 11:07knocks, one long. I ask every money souvenirs. He replies, what
- 11:11kind of souvenes is? I say, paintings of the CASBA. And if
- 11:15he asked me and I say, the color scheme of my room is red.
- 11:18And if he replies, I'll ah bless you. I handed my identification
- 11:20card and get the package. Sounds simple, almost two simple. George Gorton,
- 11:26who seemed to be known everything, famous, but I don't forget what
- 11:30this is. Imagine saying you here, George, I beg your pardon.
- 11:35Oh come on, George, shouldn't say you've forgotten me after all the time
- 11:39we spent together. Bill Turner, Well yeah, yeah, Bill Turner,
- 11:46coming back to live over your old experiences. Well no, no, not
- 11:48exactly, Honey Moore. And I suppose this is Claire Brooks, my assistant
- 11:54Bill Turner. Did you know George and I were together in the late and
- 12:00pleasant. So I guess I thought you were on your honeybone. Not yet.
- 12:05Oh you you mean you're on an assignment. I've seen those ads of
- 12:09yours. But job's too tough for you to handle. You've got a job
- 12:13for me. That's the way he was in the Army of Miss Broggs,
- 12:18always shaming the rest of us, my volunteer. Yeah, well, I
- 12:20I can't remember what brings you to this part of the world building. Oh,
- 12:24I'm just a tourist. Well, just like us. See, how'd
- 12:28you have to come to Algiers? Oh? We were in Paris on businesses
- 12:31and had a few days off. And what she wanted to see the casbar?
- 12:35That's the way with me. Where are you stopping that big hotel on
- 12:39the hill you're letting? Oh good good, I'll see you on Maybe we
- 12:43can see the casbar together. Yeah, sure thing, give me a ring,
- 12:46Yeah, will, I'm very glad to metch Thank you. That's too
- 12:50bad. Why he seems like an expella, and he probably is. It's
- 12:56going to be hard to avoid when I call him on fada sho. You're
- 13:20right, George, because by is smelly. It's even worse than I remember
- 13:22it. Come on, I want to get this thing over and get out
- 13:26of here. You don't mean I'm not going to have a chance to shop
- 13:28now that we're here. Anything you see here, Angel, you can buy
- 13:31it cheaper at home. Besides, we're here on a job. Remember,
- 13:35Yeah, I know, George, but a few minutes can't matter. And
- 13:37there's so many things I want to see and women never be here again.
- 13:46If I do, we'll have him following us around like flies. Speaking about
- 13:52flies, you'd think all that meat hanging out and the fun would be unhealthy.
- 13:54I got news for your book. See it is unhealthy. Are the
- 13:56people here mcwell enough? Well it's all right for them. We could live
- 14:00here. Now. If you're satisfied, I'll take you down the hill and
- 14:03get your taxi back to the hotel, and then i'll look up fade one.
- 14:05You can't get rid of me like that. Listen, Angel, you
- 14:07can't go in there with me? Why not? Professor Benham has an assistant,
- 14:11miss me. I know that getting on everything. Look, see,
- 14:15please don't try to be calming. I said, you'll have to postpone you
- 14:18the souvenir shop. Look who's coming? Oh good lord? Bill Turner.
- 14:22Hi, there, don't never get rid of him? Oh? Hi,
- 14:26Bill, Hey, how'd you get away so early? It? Stop by
- 14:28your hotel? If I'm not, you're gone. We don't believe missing a
- 14:31moment. Quite excited, Quite a smell, mister Turner. Do you know
- 14:37what all those blue hands are stamped on the meat? No? I can't
- 14:41say that I do, but you'll see those blue hands on the houses as
- 14:43well as the meat all over. As a matter of fact, they call
- 14:46it the hand of fun of mine. It's supposed to bring luck. Oh,
- 14:50there are some little ones in the window. Hey, Bill, I
- 14:54wonder if you do with your favorite Sure, George, Well, I saw
- 14:56something in the shop back at the books she wanted. She didn't think she
- 15:00it afford it, and i'd like to get it for as a surprise.
- 15:03If you'll keep an eye on her for a minute, I'll go back and
- 15:05get it. Well, sure, Joe, I won't be a vnet.
- 15:07But George, if you'll wait, it's the right time this happen. Yes,
- 15:35good morning. Have you any suns? What kind of souvenirs or paintings
- 15:41of the casbon call me miss you? I thank you. The color scheme
- 15:50of my room is red. I'll bless you. I will see they don't
- 15:54have to be very large. But that's a venom. Guess that's right,
- 15:58Joe fad Yes, comrade, thank you had a hard time getting keep No,
- 16:03no, I'm quite simple. This con creep and I had a very
- 16:06pleasant trip. She's waiting for me at the hotel. I will get you
- 16:08what you want. Where are you followed? Would follow me? I tak
- 16:15an asus your name. I assure you. The arm of the French shirte
- 16:19is long. Here you are, thanks, you know where you are to
- 16:26take it? Actually, but the address? Please? Oh, frankly,
- 16:30comrade, I wasn't supposed to tell you. Just throw it here and keep
- 16:34your hands hill throw it down, I say, oh no, I'm energy.
- 16:37You won't get it. Hey, pill Bill, stop him, he's
- 16:44getting away. Just stay where you are, George. I wouldn't want to
- 16:47shoot you, but I will if you moved in just a moment. Will
- 17:04return to tonight's adventure. George Valentine. Maybe you're one of the ever increasing
- 17:11number of motorists who drive cars equipped with an automatic transmission. If so,
- 17:15you know that it makes driving easier, smoother, practically effortless, because you
- 17:21don't have to shift, but it is one of the most delicately engineered units
- 17:26in modern cars, and it needs to be checked every one thousand miles.
- 17:30This frequent inspection is necessary for your protection. Loss of fluid, vapor condensation,
- 17:37and metal particles in the automatic transmission can greatly impair its performance and possibly
- 17:41ruin the unit, so it's important that the automatic transmission be drained and refilled
- 17:47at regular intervals. That's where our car savers come in. The men at
- 17:52standard stations and independent Chevron gas stations are specially trained to give expert service to
- 17:56automatic transmission units. It's more, they have the fluids that meet factory specifications
- 18:03for your make and model unit. This is a car saver service you can
- 18:07purchase with your Chavern National credit card, so take advantage of the convenience of
- 18:11your nearby car savers. Efficient, dependable automatic transmission service is only one of
- 18:18the many things you'll find at independent Chevron gas stations and standard stations where they
- 18:22say and mean we take better care of your car. An official of the
- 18:47French Surete Police sends you to Algiers on a diplomatic mission to pick up a
- 18:51package that has been stolen from a diplomatic griefcase. You are to pose as
- 18:56an Englishman Professor Benham and get in touch with a man Fadak. You meet
- 19:02Fadak in a hole in the wall and the famous caspar and you almost get
- 19:06your hands on the package. When Bill Turner, whom you met in the
- 19:08army, appears and demands the package. Fadak escapes. If your name is
- 19:14George Valentine, you wonder which side Bill is on when he says so you're
- 19:18pretending to the professor Venom no comments. I might have guessed you, and
- 19:22this Brooks sensors the description, but I never thought, Bill, what's your
- 19:25interest in this thing? If I had an authority over here, I'd have
- 19:27you in jail so fast. I never thought you'd turn against your country,
- 19:32Not after you're right? Oh what bull blazes you talking about turning against my
- 19:34country? You were trying to get those papers that were stolen from the French
- 19:37embassy working, so were you? You came here posting as professor. I
- 19:41heard you outside the door. I knew someone was going to show up,
- 19:44but I didn't think it would be you. I don't know what to say
- 19:48you, of all people, will you please stop acting like a fool.
- 19:49I'd known you needed money, I'd have been glad to lend. Said it
- 19:52was money, wasn't well, Yes, I took the jump for money.
- 19:56Shure a course, But what's your excuse here? Look at this m oss
- 20:06that explains things. I hate to do this, George, but I got
- 20:07to turn you over to the authority. So before you do, let me
- 20:10ask you something. You happen to know. A man named Carol says he's
- 20:14in the French surattack. That's right, he's the man who sent me.
- 20:17I only wanted to get those plans back before our embassy knew they were missing.
- 20:21He was afraid his government would get in trouble, so he wanted it
- 20:22done secretly. I was to pretend I was Benemlon. I never thought you'd
- 20:26fall for that phony. Carol was working for the other side. I represent
- 20:30our embassy. Our embassy knows the plans are missing. Naturally, my job
- 20:34is to get them back. No thanks to your eagan. This's the stuff
- 20:37is gone. We'll get it back. We'll work together. I should have
- 20:41known you were okay, obvious suggests we go about it. The authorities know
- 20:44about this fellow Fadak. He'd be picked up if he shows his nose and
- 20:47Algiers can hiding definitely in the caspot. But meanwhile he may be handing the
- 20:52plants to someone else to take on to Egypt. Yeah, I guess you're
- 20:56right. You have to search the casbot from top to bottom. But that's
- 20:57a needle in the haystacks. Stuff. Better idea, Look, fed,
- 21:03I thinks I'm better. If I could let him think I'd gotten rid of
- 21:06you, I might try to contact him again. Oh, drop a hint
- 21:10here and there and leave word at the shop. Maybe you and I can
- 21:12stage a fake fight. I'll get away and get hold of Brooksie. Brooksie.
- 21:17What did you do with Brooksie? I looked her out there, looking
- 21:18at those little blue hands. What did you fall him? The hands are
- 21:22funnym I yeah, I wanted to see where you were going, and said
- 21:25you hurry. You mean she's out there in the cosba along he'll be safe.
- 21:29Maybe she will and maybe she won't. I'm gonna look for say,
- 21:38have you seen anything of an American lady? Look? I was standing right
- 21:47here with a lady. Did you see where she went on? I?
- 21:52Look, please, there was a lady here with me A few minutes ago.
- 21:56Did you see no, non't sign up a bill? Maybe she went
- 22:07back to the hotel. I called that she hadn't come in meanwhiles plan.
- 22:11I don't think fad. I could give him to anyone who has the identification
- 22:14card. Maybe we'll learn something if we stage that fake fight right now.
- 22:18Hey, what are you fighting? I havn't time play right. Sorry,
- 22:23I have places to go. See you later. Come on, come on,
- 22:34hey, hurry up? Operated would you This is important? I want
- 22:37to speak to the American Embassy in Paris. No, no, I said,
- 22:41the American Embassy in Paris. Yes, a minute, what is it?
- 23:00I beg your pardon. But I was looking for a friend of mine,
- 23:03Professor Dennem He was coming to the shop. Have you seen you don't
- 23:08understand? Professor Bennom is the name. I'm his assistant. It's mon creep.
- 23:14I'm looking for souvenirs. What kind of souvenirs? Well? Painting is
- 23:18the car? Thank you? I want them for my room at home.
- 23:22The color scheme is red. I love bless you. Well, you have
- 23:26your identification the professor has card. I'm sorry, young lady. I can't
- 23:30do any business with you unless you show me your card. But i'm miss
- 23:33Moncreep, professor's assistant. The professor was arrested you, now you better get
- 23:37out of here, arrested by who? I don't know. Well, if
- 23:40he's been arrested, I'll have to carry on for him. Give me the
- 23:42package. How can I know you are a miss moncree Well wait, maybe
- 23:47the professor came to see you. He and the other man had a fight.
- 23:52The man who came to see your n awake. Thank you our son,
- 23:56bless oh, I will keep watching. That means the professor escaped.
- 24:03We will wait for you. Okay, yeah, I gotta thank you now.
- 24:14That's all I wanted. I don't want to do now, No,
- 24:17no, please, don't worry. I don't handle it my way. Just
- 24:18sit tight. I'll call you a letter. George, where have you been
- 24:30looking for brooks Stave you seen all I have? I thought from this high
- 24:33point in the cosmo here I might be able to pick her out and say,
- 24:36look, I've been thinking it might be a good idea if I went
- 24:38and saw this fellow fade. Give me your dentification card. I'll try my
- 24:42one. Give you what your dentification card? Yeah, that's what I thought
- 24:47you said I've been doing. Look, I don't want to have to take
- 24:49it from you and who else. I don't want to get rough George way,
- 24:53I'm gonna go owe you one for that second book out though that's really
- 24:57get very strong. If it breaks, fall on someone give me that.
- 25:02I know I won't when I told you that's skylight. I won't wait any
- 25:22longer me to fade. I don't think the professor's coming back. You are
- 25:25not going anywhere, Lady. You can't keep me here if I want to
- 25:27go. He waiting until the professor comes. Sit down good, No,
- 25:33it's not his knock. I would shut the door. Bill, Well,
- 25:41this bro thanks to that boyfriend of yours. He wouldn't listen. He's taking
- 25:45care of I mean you and George had a fight. Yeah, it's lucky
- 25:48for me. I was on top when we crashed through that skylight. You
- 25:51mean George's hurt, whereas I'm a Scot. Say where you are, I'll
- 25:56take that package, fade identification. I have a time to go through all
- 25:59that. Regamar, Well, here's the identification card, here's mine. Just
- 26:02give the stuff to me so I can get out of here before Valentine.
- 26:03Comes to Valentine. Valentine is the man who was posing as Professor Nam.
- 26:08He's representing the French government. This girl is Miss Brooks, not Miss monk
- 26:12No, not Miss Moncrief. Police must have grabbed Miss Moncreeve. So give
- 26:17me that package. I don't understand. Just tell George what he comes to
- 26:21that. I'm really sorry I had to do this. I liked him a
- 26:25lot when I met in Germany in spite of politics. Tell him that.
- 26:29Tell him yourself his bloody bent on Vard. Okay, busted. The gendarmes
- 26:33can take over you. You two fate acts, George and Bill. I'd
- 26:37hate to have you think I felt for that fake oss card. Many automobile
- 26:52manufacturers now recommend a heavy duty motor oil for top protection under all driving conditions
- 27:00keep modern engines running better. Our scientists subjected hundreds of motor oils to grueling
- 27:06laboratory and road tests. Even atomic energy was used in this search. Treated
- 27:11piston rings in test cars helped unlock new secrets of motorware as it occurred.
- 27:17The result was heavy duty RPM, which actually exceeds all manufacturers requirements for a
- 27:22heavy duty motor oil compared to premium type motor oils as designated by the American
- 27:27Petroleum Institute RPM actually doubles engine life time between major overhauls due to lubrication.
- 27:34So buy what's best for your car. Get heavy duty RPM motor oil at
- 27:40independent Chevron gas stations and standard stations where they say and mean we take better
- 27:47care of your car. You're sure you feel all right, George? Oh
- 28:02sure, I'm fine now that I was Plansburg. I'll be mighty happy when
- 28:06you were able to turn them over to Monsieur Carol. So will I imagine
- 28:10Bill Turner turned to tell me Carol was a fon. You know, I
- 28:12can't understand Bill Turner, a good looking young Americans, like Carrol said,
- 28:18there even some Americans who preferred to play ball with the other side. I
- 28:21remember now, Bill was very friendly when we met Uncle Joe's boys in Germany,
- 28:25frannizing them. When did you start to suspective no money? He didn't
- 28:29know about the Hand of Fatima. I remember them from Germany, but not
- 28:33from Algiers. First I thought perhaps he'd been in Algiers with another outfit and
- 28:37he didn't know anything about the Hand of Fatima. I was sure he'd never
- 28:40been to the casbah. That's one of the first things everyone answered. It's
- 28:44funny how little things are the line that was only the beginning. I didn't
- 28:47know what these papers were supposed to be taken, but Bill didn't know Egypt.
- 28:51When he tried to tell me Carol was a phony. I checked with
- 28:52the American embassy by phone. I'm glad when he fell through that skylight.
- 28:56Did you landed on something? Some ship someone bed? And it's too bad
- 29:00the lady wasn't still there for me to thank you. But when I go
- 29:04back to the casbar, I'll look it up. Huh. Now home with
- 29:11me to the cosbar. Perhaps I'd consider it on a honeymoon. That was
- 29:15one good idea Bill had, and my headaches. I think I'll take him
- 29:18now. Oh, George. Mike's transcribed adventure George Valentine has been brought to
- 29:45you by Standard Oil Company of California, on behalf of independent Chevron Gas Stations
- 29:49and Standard Stations throughout the West. Robert Daley is starred as George, with
- 29:55Virginia greg as brooksy Let. George Good was written by Davis Kent and directed
- 30:00by Kenneth Webb. Ted de Corcia was hurt as Carol, Harry Bartell as
- 30:04Bill Turner, and Larry Dopkin as FATA. Music was composed and presented by
- 30:08Eddie Dunsteader, your announcer John Heaston. Listen again next week, same time,
- 30:26same station to Let George Do It. Let George Do It as hurt
- 30:33Overseas through the worldwide facilities of the Armed Forces Radio Service. This is the
- 30:45mutual Don Lee broadcasting system. Welcome back, Well, I love conveniently placed
- 31:08mattresses to break falls, truly a old standby for getting heroes out of situations
- 31:18that they would normally end up dead in. It is kind of an interesting
- 31:23casting choice to have Harry Bartell play a communist spy. I don't know if
- 31:30anyone else had made that somewhat interesting casting decision previously or later. I've not
- 31:37heard all the episodes of I Was a Communist for an f for the FBI,
- 31:41so it's possible they had all sorts of actors playing communist agents on there.
- 31:48Well, we don't have one listener comment before we go. This is
