- Welcome to The Sports Hangover Daily, I'm Michael Benatar. Today on the show: Josh Jacobs arrested on felony charges and released the next day, Vrabel faces the media and somehow makes it worse, Vegas sweeps Colorado behind a coach they hired two months ago, and the A.J. Brown saga still won't die. Let's get into it. Let's start with the Josh Jacobs situation because this is serious. The Packers' starting running back was arrested Tuesday in Brown County, Wisconsin. The charges — strangulation and suffocation, which is a felony, plus battery-domestic abuse, criminal damage to property, disorderly conduct, and intimidation of a victim. That is a long list. That is not a bar fight that got out of hand. Those are specific, ugly charges. Now here's where it gets complicated. Jacobs was released from jail Wednesday afternoon. The district attorney said his office wasn't ready to make a decision on filing charges. Jacobs' attorneys put out a statement saying they're "extremely pleased" and confident no charges will come once all the evidence is gathered. Matt LaFleur got asked about it and basically said nothing — let the process play out, wouldn't even say if he'd talked to Jacobs. Look, I'm not gonna sit here and play judge and jury. But I will say this — nine hundred twenty-nine yards and thirteen touchdowns last year. Third Pro Bowl selection. This is the Packers' best offensive weapon not named Jordan Love. If charges DO get filed, Green Bay's season takes a massive hit before it even starts. And if they don't get filed, this story still lingers. There's no clean version of this for the Packers. You're either dealing with a legal nightmare or a PR nightmare. Probably both. Sticking with the NFL — Mike Vrabel talked to the media Wednesday for the first time since the draft scandal. And honestly, it went about as well as you'd expect. When asked if he expects to miss any other offseason activities, Vrabel said — and I need you to hear this — "Who knows what's gonna come up? And so, I'm gonna focus on today." Who knows what's gonna come up? THAT is your answer? My guy, the correct answer is "No. I will not miss anything else. I am locked in." Instead he leaves the door open like he's got a reservation somewhere. Russini already resigned from The Athletic over this. Vrabel missed the final day of the draft. And now he's giving "who knows" answers at the podium. New England fans deserve better than this. Eliot Wolf is trying to build something and his head coach is out here acting like his calendar is a mystery to him. In other NFL news — Aaron Rodgers confirmed this week that twenty twenty-six is his final season. He's reuniting with Mike McCarthy in Pittsburgh for one last ride. Say what you want about Rodgers and the drama, but the idea of him and McCarthy back together, trying to win a playoff game, is genuinely fun. Those two ran Green Bay for years. Now they get one more shot in a completely different city. I'm here for it. The A.J. Brown trade watch continues. Jalen Hurts and Saquon Barkley are "laser-focused on the season," which is what every teammate says when they know a guy might get shipped out. Bleacher Report says the Patriots are still the primary destination but other teams could jump in after June first when the cap mechanics change. This one's been simmering for weeks and it feels like it's close to boiling over. And the Giants had a team meeting Wednesday after Jaxson Dart introduced President Trump at a rally last week. Dart addressed his teammates directly. Brian Burns, Kayvon Thibodeaux, and Jameis Winston all spoke up. The team says they're moving forward. Boomer Esiason called it a "boneheaded error." I think the fact that they handled it in-house, face to face, is the right move. Whether it sticks is a different question. Over in the NHL — Vegas swept Colorado in the Western Conference Finals. Four games. Done. The Golden Knights are headed to the Stanley Cup Final. Carter Hart stopped twenty of twenty-one shots in the clincher. Mark Stone scored in his second game back from injury. Cole Smith, a deadline pickup, got the game-winner with about five minutes left. And Nathan MacKinnon — fifty-three goals in the regular season — didn't score in ANY of the four games. Colorado managed just seven goals the entire series. Vegas did this after firing Bruce Cassidy with eight games left in the regular season and bringing in John Tortorella. Two months ago this team was falling apart. Here's my Hangover Take for today. Daniel Jones told reporters Wednesday that he fully expects to be ready for Week one. He's six months removed from his injury and he was out there going through drills at Colts OTAs. And I want to say something that might sound crazy — I think Daniel Jones in Indianapolis could work. Not because Jones suddenly became a different quarterback. But because the Colts are the perfect low-pressure landing spot. No one expects anything. The roster around him is decent. Shane Steichen knows how to scheme for mobile quarterbacks. If Jones can stay healthy — which, yeah, massive if — he could quietly have the best season of his career simply because no one's watching. Every other comeback story this offseason has a spotlight on it. Rodgers has the farewell tour. Watson's got the legal baggage. Jones? Nobody cares. And sometimes that's exactly what a guy needs. Don't be shocked if Indianapolis is competitive and Jones is the reason why. That's your hangover. Go hydrate. I'll see you tomorrow.
