- 0:05Welcome to The Hypnotist, the show that gives you inside
- 0:09access to cutting edge hypnosis with real clients facing.
- 0:12Genuine issues. Brought to you by The
- 0:14Hypnotherapist, Demanded by celebrities, CEOs and even
- 0:18royalty, Adam Cox. These recordings took place live
- 0:22from Adam Smith in London's world famous Harley Street.
- 0:29So get yourself comfortable and enjoy today's episode of The
- 0:33Hypnotist. Hi, it's Adam here and you're
- 0:41about to listen to a hypnosis session all about self
- 0:45acceptance and also dealing with those perilous risks that feel
- 0:51like they might be causing problems at any moment.
- 0:55A lot of people have heard of the metaphor or the story of the
- 0:58Sword of Damocles and Damocles was living his life and there
- 1:03was a God dangling a sword over their head and at any point they
- 1:07could drop it and that's it Damocles life is over.
- 1:11But the sword of Damocles is still used in everyday modern
- 1:15language to represent something that feels precarious that
- 1:20actually something could just go wrong.
- 1:23Some people will use the phrase that they're waiting for the
- 1:25shoe to drop. This is also a proxy for this
- 1:30Sword of Damocles metaphor. It's something could go wrong.
- 1:33It's a a risk or a connotation or some kind of problem or
- 1:38unfinished business. And the client I was working
- 1:41with felt that they had multiple swords over their head.
- 1:44Not just one, but multiple. Now think how precarious you
- 1:48would feel if there was actually a sword hanging over your head
- 1:51and it could drop at any moment. And then imagine 5 or 6 or 7 or
- 1:558 swords. It's going to feel daunting.
- 1:58You would feel on edge all of the time.
- 2:00And this client felt that way. And this client also had had a
- 2:04recent dream where there was a woman in the river tied to a
- 2:08rope around her waist and got a sense that there was something
- 2:12about this woman that was them from when they were five years
- 2:16old. And this hypnosis session fuses
- 2:20these two metaphors together. So we deal with the swords over
- 2:24the head using submodality shifts and reframes and distance
- 2:30and even material, and then actually we turn the sword,
- 2:34rather than a source of danger into something useful.
- 2:38The sword then becomes a tool, and that tool is the ability to
- 2:44have full self acceptance and to be untethered from whether
- 2:49whatever is preventing that life beyond that self acceptance.
- 2:54Because there's a wonderful thing that if you don't accept
- 2:57yourself fully, then how can you expect other people to accept
- 3:02you? And if you're trying to hide or
- 3:06be discreet about who you really are, actually, that can be used
- 3:11as a weapon of shame or judgement against you.
- 3:15And one of the most empowered things that you can do is be
- 3:18immune to that by having full self acceptance of who you are.
- 3:24But it can feel daunting. It can feel daunting because
- 3:27what if other people reject or humiliate or.
- 3:30Shame. And that's.
- 3:31Why it's such a courageous thing to do.
- 3:34This session does not obligate the client to Cut the Rope, but
- 3:38gives them the option to Cut the Rope when they feel the time is
- 3:42right. It's very, very important about
- 3:45issues of identity level acceptance that happens on the.
- 3:50Terms that the client. Wants If you force someone into
- 3:54accepting, then that is not self acceptance, that is forced
- 3:59acceptance and that quite often creates resistance.
- 4:03So the invitation is there, but whether or not they do that,
- 4:06that's down to the individual. What I would encourage you to do
- 4:10is to think of something that you haven't fully accepted yet.
- 4:14And one of my favourite frames of reference for self acceptance
- 4:18is my hairline, which as you can see I have none.
- 4:21But there was a time in my late 20s, early 30s, I was.
- 4:25Losing my hair. And I was doing what a lot of
- 4:28men would do, and that would kind of fluff up their hair and
- 4:30try and mask it, and it wasn't fooling anyone.
- 4:35And when people would mock, let's say my increasing
- 4:39boldness. It used to.
- 4:41Sting because I hadn't accepted it myself at the point where I
- 4:47shaved all my hair off and personally I think I.
- 4:49Look pretty good. Without having any hair, it was
- 4:54impenetrable. If someone tried to mock me for
- 4:56having no hair, honestly wouldn't have any impact on me
- 5:00whatsoever. Because if you fully accept
- 5:02something, it becomes immune to kind of.
- 5:05Shame judgement. Humiliation and contrast that.
- 5:09I mean, I think I would look ridiculous if I here I am in 47
- 5:13years old with a comb over. It would fool no one.
- 5:17It would be evidence that I haven't accepted myself and it
- 5:20could easily be used as a weapon to cause shame or humiliation.
- 5:25So that's my personal reference. I want you to think of what is
- 5:30it in your life that you haven't fully accepted yet, even more so
- 5:36if it's something that you can't really change.
- 5:38Or don't. Want to change?
- 5:40That's the ideal thing. If it's your weight, you could
- 5:44accept that weight. Or you could accept your weight
- 5:47while making a decision to change it, if you decide to do
- 5:50that. So that's what I want you to
- 5:52think of. What is the thing that you
- 5:54either want to accept or make a resolution to change?
- 5:57But they're not mutually exclusive.
- 5:59You could accept something while attempting to change it.
- 6:02You could accept that you have the intelligence that you have
- 6:06or that you are the kind of personality that you have and
- 6:09still work on changing some things that might improve and
- 6:13give you more of what you want. That's my challenge for you.
- 6:17If you like the idea of working with me, I would encourage you
- 6:20to look in the description. There is a suitability test.
- 6:24And there are. Different ways that you can work
- 6:26with me and there's a link there in the description.
- 6:30So check that out. And where to find that, by the
- 6:32way, is the more info. There tends to be like a little
- 6:35two line summary, but if you click more info, it kind of
- 6:38expands and then you've got all the links to different
- 6:41resources. So check that out.
- 6:43And for now, find a quiet, comfortable place where you
- 6:45won't be distracted or disturbed.
- 6:48Relax and enjoy the session. Take a deep breath in, and as
- 7:29you breathe in, breathe in that resourceful feeling of calm and
- 7:34relaxation. And as you exhale, feel a
- 7:43wonderful feeling of relaxation, as if any tension, stress and
- 7:54worries. Are starting to.
- 7:57Leave your body every time you breathe out.
- 8:04Breathing in, relaxation, exhaling tension.
- 8:11That's it. Scan your body for any clues of
- 8:15tension, maybe in your forehead, your jaw, your neck, or your
- 8:21shoulders, and just allow yourself to let go.
- 8:29That's it. And the deeper you breathe, the
- 8:35more relaxed you feel. And the more relaxed you feel,
- 8:41the deeper you breathe. And as you breathe out, just let
- 8:47everything you've been carrying, all of it, rest for now.
- 8:56Just for now. Because you've been carrying so
- 9:02much for so long and you're allowed, entitled, justified to
- 9:11put it down, even if it's just for a few minutes.
- 9:21And with each breath you drift down deeper into this quiet,
- 9:27comfortable, restful state. As I countdown from 5:00 to
- 9:341:00, I want you to imagine drifting deeper down to a place
- 9:43in nature, deep down within your mind, your imagination.
- 9:50Field, perhaps close to a river. Five.
- 9:58Drifting down to that field 4 Even deeper 3 So comfortable
- 10:09now. 2 Almost all the way there, one just resting here.
- 10:28Perhaps you could imagine yourself standing in a vast open
- 10:33field. The sky above you is wide and
- 10:39still, and the light is soft. Not too bright, not too dark.
- 10:50This field is your field, and you are safe here.
- 10:58Maybe, maybe there's a gentle breeze.
- 11:04Maybe the field is grass or a Meadow.
- 11:09And here, in this place, your unconscious mind can reveal
- 11:14things to you with perfect clarity.
- 11:21And as you stand there, you become aware of something above
- 11:28you. And just imagine being there in
- 11:32the field and looking up. Floating above you, suspended in
- 11:40the air, are a number of swords. Perhaps these are ancient
- 11:50medieval swords, each one representing something you've
- 11:57been carrying, something that has demanded your attention,
- 12:05your energy, your worry. And they just hang there, as if
- 12:14held by invisible threads. And you already know the
- 12:23different things that each sword represents.
- 12:29A problem to solve, a risk, unfinished business, echoes or
- 12:37attachments of the past difficulties.
- 12:46You know what those swords represent, but look at them
- 12:51without fear. Just look at them honestly and
- 13:00notice how heavy the air feels beneath them, how long you've
- 13:08been standing beneath them, how much of your energy has gone
- 13:15into simply watching them, anticipating whether or not they
- 13:23may drop. And now, as you keep watching,
- 13:35something interesting begins to happen.
- 13:40The swords, without you doing anything, begin to change.
- 13:51The steel, bright and hard, begins to soften just a little,
- 14:03just at the edges first, and then more.
- 14:10And they are still there. You can still see them, but
- 14:17somehow they feel less sharp, less threatening.
- 14:25They are still part of your. Life, but less scary, less
- 14:33precarious. And one by one you notice some
- 14:40of them drifting higher, just a little further away, as if the
- 14:48threads were pulling on the swords, taking them away from
- 14:53you. And they don't need to
- 14:58disappear, but they give you room to breathe, to stand, to
- 15:06exist, to live without needing to flinch or brace.
- 15:18And I want you to appreciate that some of those swords and
- 15:24mirages, echoes of the past, they look real, but only because
- 15:31they were in the past, and now perhaps less so.
- 15:40And at least one of these swords is close to being resolved. 1
- 15:47less sword to worry about. And I want you to imagine some
- 15:53of these swords, even in a worst case scenario, are harmless.
- 16:02And those swords you can turn to wood.
- 16:07I want you to imagine less swords.
- 16:11Blunt swords, wooden swords, or just almost a hallucination of a
- 16:21sword. It looks real, but if it ever
- 16:25did drop, it would pass straight through you like a figment of
- 16:32your imagination. And I want you to feel.
- 16:39Feel that it is less precarious now you feel more resourceful.
- 16:50In fact, one of the swords was metal was real.
- 16:57But I want you to imagine it drops not on to you, but by your
- 17:01side. There is one less sword to worry
- 17:06about, and now you get to use it for you rather than against you.
- 17:15Feel the weight of that sword and I want you to imagine there
- 17:22you are in that open field, and not far away from the field is a
- 17:30river. You can hear the running water.
- 17:37Take that sword with you, the metal 1 You may need it.
- 17:47So walk toward the sound of that water, and there before you is
- 17:53the river, moving fast, powerful but not frightening.
- 18:01And there, in the middle of the current, you see her.
- 18:08You see a woman and it feels like you recognize her, maybe in
- 18:15a dream, or maybe there's a quality in the face that reminds
- 18:21you. You can see yourself in her and
- 18:29see that woman standing in the rushing water, a rope around her
- 18:35waist, feathered to a firm metal pole upstream, and she is still
- 18:48steady, not swept away and not drowning, just holding.
- 19:00She looks at you and you recognise her, almost like
- 19:07there's a part of you that's been standing there since the
- 19:10age of five, just holding on, because holding on felt like the
- 19:17only safe thing to do. And this woman there in the
- 19:27dress, there in the river, has been so brave for so long to
- 19:36stand in that current and not be swept away, to hold the rope,
- 19:45not out of fear or weakness, but sheer endurance.
- 19:53This is simply what she does. And you can imagine walking into
- 20:03the water now. You move toward her.
- 20:10You stand with her, not trying to pull the rope, not telling
- 20:17her what to do, just being there beside her.
- 20:25And perhaps for the very first time, she doesn't feel alone in
- 20:32the current. Maybe you could imagine looking
- 20:38at her in those deadpan eyes, not needing to say words but
- 20:45conveying them. I see you.
- 20:51I have always been you, and you are not something to be ashamed
- 20:57of. as you accept her, see her expression change, but feel
- 21:11something shift within you. Because as you accept her, you
- 21:19accept that five year old within you.
- 21:27As she feels it, you feel it. And now you become aware that
- 21:36you are still holding something in your hand.
- 21:41One of the swords. The sword is no longer a threat.
- 21:49It's a tool. And this sword is not sharp with
- 21:56fear anymore, but it is clear and honest.
- 22:00It carries the weight of everything you have endured and
- 22:08the wisdom of all you have learned and survived.
- 22:15And you look at the rope, the one tied around her waist, and
- 22:23you understand something, something important, that the
- 22:31rope is not the attraction. The rope is not who she is.
- 22:40The rope is simply the shame, the secrecy, the need to hold so
- 22:48still for so long that she almost forgot what it felt like
- 22:55to simply be herself. And you know, in this moment,
- 23:03that the rope can be cut. Not because you have to, and not
- 23:11because anyone is forcing you, but because you are the one who
- 23:20wields the sword and you are the one who gets to choose.
- 23:29This is your river, your sword, your rope, and if and when the
- 23:40time is right, whenever that is, you have the means and the right
- 23:50to set her free. She could spend forever in that
- 23:56river. She can manage that.
- 23:59She can endure that. She has for so long.
- 24:01But what if she wants to live life beyond the river?
- 24:14You don't have to cut it today, right here in this moment.
- 24:20It's simply knowing that you can, that the choice belongs to
- 24:27you. And maybe one day, in a dream,
- 24:33she asks you to set her free. A message from your intuition,
- 24:41or maybe God, that the time is now right.
- 24:47That it is no longer a choice of one or the other, but a way.
- 24:55A way of bringing 2 important things together.
- 25:02The choice is yours and only yours.
- 25:06And that sword that once hung above you, threatening, is now
- 25:11in your hand, ready to serve you whenever you are ready.
- 25:23And as you stand there in the river beside her, look up and
- 25:29see. For now, there are no swords
- 25:32hanging over you and the water rushing past, but manageable, no
- 25:44longer overwhelming. Give yourself permission to feel
- 25:51something. Space, room to breathe, that was
- 26:07once feeling like pressure now feels like acceptance.
- 26:15And your faith, that relationship with God that has
- 26:20always been yours, is here too. How could it not be?
- 26:31It's there with you. It is the river, it is the rope,
- 26:37it is the sword. It is you.
- 26:39It is the woman. It never left.
- 26:46And you hear something quietly underneath the sound of the
- 26:51water. Not a voice of condemnation, but
- 26:59something softer, something that is no new since before you were
- 27:075. It has never once stopped
- 27:13knowing you. So allow that that voice of
- 27:24acceptance to settle into your body.
- 27:26Now. Let it move into your chest,
- 27:31your shoulders, your hands, because you are not diminished
- 27:39by what you carry, but you are remarkable because of how long
- 27:46you have carried it and how much life you have built in spite of
- 27:52it. and I wonder what those final
- 28:16few chapters of that life will reveal.
- 28:23So you leave the river knowing you can return to Cut the Rope
- 28:29whenever you choose. And imagine floating up into the
- 28:36sky and returning into your body as you take a deep breath in
- 28:45through your nose and out through your nose and wiggle
- 28:50your fingers and wiggle your toes, connecting and calibrating
- 28:54into the here and the now as I now count from 1:00 to 10:00 to
- 29:01awaken you starting to count. 123.
- 29:07Waking up 456 More alert 7-8 Open your eyes.
