- 0:00Speaker 1: Back with Gino Oriama here on the Women's Basketball Coaches
- 0:02Speaker 1: show We've got yukon Women's basketball on Saturday, part of
- 0:05Speaker 1: a doubleheader day, women will take on either Butler or
- 0:08Speaker 1: Saint John's in the Big East quarter Finals with a
- 0:11Speaker 1: noon tip eleven thirty on the radio, and then as
- 0:13Speaker 1: soon as we're done, we'll flip it over to Gamble
- 0:15Speaker 1: for the men's Senior Day festivities when they take on
- 0:18Speaker 1: Seat and Haul in their regular season finale. Gino, I
- 0:21Speaker 1: guess we should talk a little bit about Page because
- 0:23Speaker 1: she has really picked things up both offensively being efficient
- 0:27Speaker 1: as she always has been, but the assists have really
- 0:29Speaker 1: piled up. The assist a turnover ratio for Page has
- 0:32Speaker 1: been really good. I think she's the national leader right
- 0:34Speaker 1: in the top three, as she has been all season long.
- 0:37Speaker 1: But it seems like, and I think we touched about
- 0:39Speaker 1: this on the last show, when you're trying to get
- 0:42Speaker 1: the pace pushed up a little bit, she's recognizing getting
- 0:45Speaker 1: out in transition, making that stretch pass a lot more,
- 0:48Speaker 1: and we saw that, I guess starting with South Carolina
- 0:50Speaker 1: becoming more of a regular thing. Offensively, Yeah, it really
- 0:54Speaker 1: has been.
- 0:55Speaker 2: You know, we always try to figure out like what's
- 0:58Speaker 2: our you know, what's our best way to attack the
- 1:02Speaker 2: other teams? And you know, we certainly like to play quickly.
- 1:06Speaker 2: You know, I think our transition games as good as
- 1:08Speaker 2: anybody's in the country. You know, we like to play quickly.
- 1:11Speaker 2: And sometimes, you know, you give the ball to KK
- 1:15Speaker 2: and she pushes the ball up the floor fast, and
- 1:18Speaker 2: that is one way. You put the ball in Page's
- 1:21Speaker 2: hand and she's able to get the ball foul on
- 1:24Speaker 2: the felon in won dribble because she passes and sees
- 1:27Speaker 2: the floor so well. So we've had a lot more
- 1:29Speaker 2: opportunities to attack and transition. And then because Page has
- 1:34Speaker 2: the ball in her hands, we don't have to work
- 1:37Speaker 2: so hard to get her open against teams that you
- 1:40Speaker 2: know are going to be physical with her and not
- 1:42Speaker 2: let her get open. So there's both ways to do it.
- 1:46Speaker 2: You know. Right now, I think KK and asy Titl
- 1:52Speaker 2: and Chen, you know, they're pretty comfortable just you know,
- 1:55Speaker 2: we rearound the ball and there's Page, so just take
- 1:58Speaker 2: off and get up the floor and let's see what happens.
- 2:01Speaker 2: But we are doing more with her. With Page, there's
- 2:05Speaker 2: been more plays run for her lately. Yeah, I think
- 2:10Speaker 2: since the South Carolina game, I don't think Easy and
- 2:13Speaker 2: Ash have shot the ball particularly well. You know, like
- 2:16Speaker 2: they were shooting. You know, they're not even getting the
- 2:19Speaker 2: number of shots that they used to be getting. You know,
- 2:21Speaker 2: I don't think they're And He's funny the way that works.
- 2:24Speaker 2: You know, when you're making a lot of shots, you
- 2:26Speaker 2: just work your butt off to get more shots. You know,
- 2:28Speaker 2: when your girls are funny. You know, when when you
- 2:31Speaker 2: start missing a couple, they hide like I don't want
- 2:33Speaker 2: to miss anything.
- 2:34Speaker 1: That's weird because they started to for tenants South Carolina,
- 2:37Speaker 1: and look what happens.
- 2:38Speaker 2: That's what I mean, you know, and so I just
- 2:41Speaker 2: think you've got to keep after them, keep after them
- 2:43Speaker 2: to you know, not worry about the outcome and just
- 2:46Speaker 2: make sure that we get enough of them. I mean,
- 2:48Speaker 2: that's been my mantra the whole season. You know, it's
- 2:51Speaker 2: not about the ones that don't go in, you know,
- 2:54Speaker 2: you know, being asked a lot, you know, hey, you're
- 2:55Speaker 2: concerned about the ones that you know, what your shooting
- 2:58Speaker 2: percentage is and the two points. No, I get concerned
- 3:00Speaker 2: when we don't get enough of them. And you know,
- 3:02Speaker 2: the Market game I think was one example you know,
- 3:05Speaker 2: we didn't get enough of them. Now you say, wow,
- 3:07Speaker 2: you shot sixty eight percent or whatever because you got
- 3:09Speaker 2: a bunch of twos that were easy, which is true.
- 3:12Speaker 2: And oun't mind that at all. I'm not one of
- 3:14Speaker 2: these analytic nerds that says threes are better than twos
- 3:17Speaker 2: and we should take fifty threes every night. Sorry, that's
- 3:20Speaker 2: not me, you know, but you like to get our share,
- 3:24Speaker 2: you know, twenty five at least every night, because I
- 3:28Speaker 2: figure if we do get twenty five, we're going to
- 3:30Speaker 2: make in double figures, and if our defense is pretty good,
- 3:35Speaker 2: we're gonna I hope. Now that's the other bonus contention.
- 3:39Speaker 2: When you press, you're not careful or you know, you
- 3:43Speaker 2: don't get back on d you know, we're not the
- 3:45Speaker 2: greatest three point fuel goal percentage defensive team, right. You know.
- 3:50Speaker 2: So one of the areas of focus going in not
- 3:53Speaker 2: just to this weekend but the tournament is we got
- 3:56Speaker 2: to get more threes, make sure we get our share
- 3:58Speaker 2: every night, and then we got to do a great
- 4:01Speaker 2: job of not giving up any open trees. Yeah.
- 4:04Speaker 1: I think you talked about that on Sunday. G You know,
- 4:06Speaker 1: the ball screen coverages and I know the three point
- 4:08Speaker 1: defense hasn't been great. We've talked about that, but you
- 4:10Speaker 1: also put an emphasis on the ball screen coverage.
- 4:13Speaker 2: Yeah, and you know who helps us with that. Ice
- 4:15Speaker 2: helps us with the ball screen coverage. And she hasn't
- 4:17Speaker 2: played in a while. She's really smart, you know, she's
- 4:21Speaker 2: you know, been here, played all last year and understands
- 4:24Speaker 2: has gotten really really good and understanding when where to
- 4:27Speaker 2: be position wise, how to move, you know, kind of
- 4:31Speaker 2: anticipate where's the guard going, where's the big guy going.
- 4:35Speaker 2: Jenna's still kind of trying to find her way in that.
- 4:38Speaker 2: But we switch a lot on ball screens, and the
- 4:42Speaker 2: other thing that we have to get better at is
- 4:44Speaker 2: our guys. Our guys run into ball screens. Our guys,
- 4:49Speaker 2: our guys think ball screens are like swimming pools. They
- 4:51Speaker 2: just go face first. Somebody sets a ball screen, that
- 4:54Speaker 2: guy just turns around and gets it right in the
- 4:56Speaker 2: face with the ball skreen. I'm like, look, I don't
- 4:59Speaker 2: care if we're and you have to get over it
- 5:01Speaker 2: and you go under it, or we're going under and
- 5:03Speaker 2: you go over it. We can still figure that out
- 5:05Speaker 2: one out. I don't know what to do when you
- 5:08Speaker 2: guys keep hitting the thing phase first, it's confounding.
- 5:13Speaker 1: I can't so anyway, it's a lot of well as
- 5:15Speaker 1: far going a minute here onlearfield
