- 0:00Hey y 'all, I'm Hannah Liz, a coastal living,
- 0:02Jesus living, NC native, and this is the Living
- 0:05Free podcast, where we discuss intentionally
- 0:09living our lives to the fulls that God has intended,
- 0:12having those late night open heart friend combos,
- 0:15not letting others, ourselves, or ideas hold
- 0:17us down, allowing Jesus to free us of the chains
- 0:20that we didn't know we were holding onto. You
- 0:23can see the full show notes attached to this
- 0:25episode, and if you love this episode, please
- 0:27leave me a review. Hello, hello, and welcome
- 0:32back to another episode of the Living Freed podcast.
- 0:37What a time to be alive. The Knicks won the championship.
- 0:42I don't know anything about basketball if you
- 0:44can't tell, but it looked hyped. The Carolina
- 0:48Hurricanes won the Stanley Cup. That's my favorite
- 0:51hockey team. I love hockey and only if I'm watching
- 0:55it live, not on TV, but fully invested in my
- 0:58team. Love it. And I'm so pumped that they won.
- 1:02Raleigh's been going crazy. What a time to be
- 1:04alive. I wish I lived back in Raleigh just for
- 1:07this small moment and I'd come right back to
- 1:09Wilmington. And then the U .S. is hosting the
- 1:12World Cup series. And I know absolutely nothing
- 1:15about soccer, but it seems really exciting. It
- 1:19does. So, I'm pumped for everybody else that's
- 1:22involved and excited. I just like taking it all
- 1:25in and watching it unfold in front of my eyes.
- 1:28And honestly, when you're single, what's the
- 1:30worst time to have a bunch of foreign men in
- 1:32your country? Like, should I get back on the
- 1:34dating apps? I don't know. Maybe. Probably not.
- 1:40Actually, definitely not. There's no need for
- 1:42me to do that. More power to those who do. Speaking
- 1:46of... power. This whole episode is actually going
- 1:51to be about being single money to mingles. So
- 1:53I feel like we're sliding right into it. But
- 1:55before we do that, let me tell you what's been
- 1:57going on in my world. So last time we checked
- 2:01in was literally last week, and I haven't done
- 2:04anything. Honestly, I don't live an interesting
- 2:07life. I haven't lived an interesting life. My
- 2:09friend Kate invited me over for dinner. That
- 2:11was amazing. Y 'all knew I was going to that.
- 2:15I went to Raleigh the very next day and spent
- 2:17the weekend with my family and with the babies.
- 2:19And let me tell you, I'm a professional actor.
- 2:23I'm pretty sure the two year old thought I knew
- 2:24what he was saying and I had no clue what he
- 2:27was saying. Not a clue. Not a shot. But we had
- 2:31some solid conversations where he said a lot.
- 2:34And I said, yeah, wow, okay. And then he said
- 2:40a lot more after that. The baby baby obviously
- 2:44thinks he's talking to, and I don't have to put
- 2:47as much effort into talking to him. So it was
- 2:50great. And then me and my sister did a baby shower,
- 2:53beautiful, as you knew we were going to. But
- 2:56y 'all on the way to my mom's, picture this.
- 2:58First off. Wilmington to Raleigh is a two hour
- 3:02drive, okay? Just that, just two hours. I already
- 3:05had a full tank. I just replaced my tires three
- 3:09weeks ago now. So brand new tires, amazing. Cars
- 3:14driving like, I don't know how cars should drive,
- 3:17I guess. And I'm cruising. And then I thought,
- 3:20you know what? My tank's halfway empty. I should
- 3:23probably just go out and get gas just in case,
- 3:25because I don't know how much gas is in Raleigh,
- 3:27but I know at the halfway point it's still pretty
- 3:29cheap. So I filled up my gas and I thought, I
- 3:32have to use the bathroom, but I don't want to
- 3:34use this bathroom. A gas station bathroom in
- 3:37the middle of Garner? No thank you. I'm okay.
- 3:40I'll hold it. I'm only like 40 minutes out from
- 3:42my mom's house. So I get back in the car. I'm
- 3:45flying down the highway, 540, and my tire blows.
- 3:49Straight -up blows going 65 miles an hour just
- 3:52blows. I don't know. I didn't see anything in
- 3:54the road So I don't think I hit anything but
- 3:56truthfully I'm just a girl What do I have to
- 4:00say? I was listening to my crime podcast. I could
- 4:02have been I could have hit something but I'm
- 4:0490 % sure I did not hit a thing How else would
- 4:07it blow? I don't know. I'm not a car person.
- 4:10So that's not my world. I have a pink collar
- 4:13job I'm not a blue, so I don't know anything
- 4:16about tires and I don't need to. Anyways, my
- 4:19mom and my brother -in -law come and fix the
- 4:20tire. I still really have to pee. I'm counting
- 4:23down the minutes to get to my mom's house. We
- 4:24get to her house. I use the bathroom. Me and
- 4:27my sister go to my new favorite coffee shop,
- 4:29as everyone knows, which is Summer Moon in Wake
- 4:32Forest. Let me tell you, if you're in that area,
- 4:35I'm obsessed. Summer Moon. best coffee in town
- 4:38truly best i could drink it black i can drink
- 4:40it with creamer i can drink it with flavors it
- 4:43is the best coffee in town if you've not and
- 4:46now you guys i know i know it's a franchise no
- 4:48one has to tell me it's a franchise but i'm pretty
- 4:51sure it's the only one in north carolina and
- 4:53i will hold on to that it's truly my favorite
- 4:56it goes summer moon now my coffee at home Probably
- 5:02them social in Wilmington social coffee is really
- 5:04good Everyone wants to go to Casablanca listen
- 5:07Casablanca is good, but the girls that work there
- 5:09are rude They're literally so rude and I could
- 5:12go at a whole rant about that, but I won't Casablanca
- 5:15has good coffee. I just don't like the people
- 5:17that work there So I don't go there if I don't
- 5:19have to except I did go Thursday with Nikki and
- 5:24Devin so there is that but my friends were there
- 5:26I had to show up What else would I do? You know?
- 5:31So there is that. That's the one time I've gone
- 5:33recently. Yeah. So you know what's out? Let me
- 5:36tell you what's out. Casablanca is out. The people
- 5:38that work at Casablanca, out. The energy and
- 5:42attitude at Casablanca, out. That's what's out.
- 5:46And today, what's in? Still talking about it.
- 5:48Summer Moon Coffee, the best. The girls are,
- 5:50you know what? The girls there complimented my
- 5:52dress. Okay, and then they complimented my hair
- 5:55and then I show them that my dress is actually
- 5:57a romper and where to get it because that's what
- 5:59girls do and then The next day I went back again
- 6:04because I have a problem But I brought my mom
- 6:06this time and they complimented something else
- 6:08again, and I love a compliment And I love summer
- 6:12moon and their coffee because we all know I was
- 6:15trying to wean off a coffee But when you're there
- 6:16you have to get the coffee. So yeah, that's what's
- 6:19out. That's what's in and that's what's out um
- 6:24anything i don't know i just went on a whole
- 6:27rant about that but yeah oh i go to florida next
- 6:31week yeah for the interview and to see my besties
- 6:34so wish me luck uh wish me the best and that
- 6:40god is in control of whatever i'm supposed to
- 6:41do with my future because i have no idea i have
- 6:44zero clue what i'm supposed to do with my future
- 6:46at this point as i'm sure a lot of people feel
- 6:48that way Most times unless you're married with
- 6:50kids then your whole future is your marriage
- 6:53and your kids Being single is rough with that
- 6:57actually, because like at least when you're married,
- 6:58you have an idea of like what y 'all are working
- 7:01towards as a team. When you're single, you're
- 7:03like, Oh, I could genuinely y 'all I was up at
- 7:062am looking at jobs on olive farms in Italy the
- 7:11other night, because that's what I can do when
- 7:12you're single. Like how cool is that that I could
- 7:14do that, but at the same time, I have no one
- 7:17to keep me in check. So I genuinely could do
- 7:19anything. And then that's overwhelming. So then
- 7:22I want to do nothing. You know what I mean? Like
- 7:25that's that that is a hard part about being singles
- 7:27You don't have someone to make choices with you
- 7:29or like focus your choices around you're like
- 7:32Wow, I could go work on a dude ranch in, Wyoming
- 7:35I'm not gonna do that, but I could I Genuinely
- 7:39could what else could I do? I could I have my
- 7:42brain is blinking now But that those are my options.
- 7:46I could be a nomad in Hawaii. I could I could
- 7:52be a hairstylist in Wilmington, oh wait, I'm
- 7:54doing that right now. Anyways, so that's what's
- 8:00going on. Anyways, to speak more into that, let's
- 8:04dive into this week's episode. Here we are again.
- 8:21It probably feels like an exhausted topic that
- 8:24us Christian girls seem to not be able to stop
- 8:27talking about. But let's talk about being single
- 8:30anyways. But this time, let's focus on the wanting
- 8:35to mingle part. Last time we talked about singleness,
- 8:38we talked about how to enjoy it, how to produce,
- 8:41I can't speak anymore, how to produce fruit through
- 8:44it and what that looks like. I gave suggestions
- 8:47on hobbies and how to get comfortable in your
- 8:50own skin. But this time we're going to talk about
- 8:53a different side of singleness that every single
- 8:57one of us, I would say 99 % of Christian girls
- 9:00experience, which is the desire to mingle and
- 9:04get married. I just went to two out of five weddings
- 9:09for 2026 single. And the next three, I can almost
- 9:14definitely, probably 100 % guarantee I will be
- 9:18going to solo. as well. Listen, I've gone to
- 9:24weddings in the past, single, dating, engaged,
- 9:29and then single again. And as you get older,
- 9:33it doesn't necessarily get easier. You think
- 9:37you would get used to it, but you just don't.
- 9:40Now, when going to a wedding as a single person,
- 9:44there are two sides of this coin. One side, you
- 9:47are so excited for your friends. I mean, truly,
- 9:51with your whole entire heart, you are so excited
- 9:54for your friends. But the other side is you also
- 9:59devastatedly wish that was you. You do. You see
- 10:04them walking down the aisle and you go, wish
- 10:07that was me. You don't want their husband, trust
- 10:08me. But you're like, wish that was me. And the
- 10:11truth is, is you can be feeling both. You can
- 10:13be happy for your friends and sad for yourself.
- 10:16Just like we can still enjoy being single. You
- 10:20use your time. Well, do things your married friends
- 10:22can't when they are married or and if they have
- 10:26kids But at the same time you probably also wish
- 10:30you were married with a baby, too Like when you're
- 10:34single, it's great because you can sleep in but
- 10:37I'm also sure a small part of you would happily
- 10:39give up the sleeping in Part if it meant that
- 10:43you had your own little one to wake up to but
- 10:45not having to give up shopping for yourself is
- 10:48so Nice. And not planning a meal every single
- 10:52night of the week for our whole family is also
- 10:55so nice. Like, I hate having to even feed myself
- 11:00every single night. And sometimes I come home
- 11:02tired from work and I just don't eat because
- 11:04I can. Now, there is a part of us who wants our
- 11:08person to start the next stage of our life. To
- 11:11not be alone anymore or worry about dying alone.
- 11:15which was not a fear I had until a client brought
- 11:18it up to me that I should be worried about dying
- 11:19alone. And I thought, why would you introduce
- 11:24this fear to me? I'm too young to worry about
- 11:27this. But alas, apparently I'm not. Being single,
- 11:31especially if you're basically the only single
- 11:34friend in the whole friend group, gets really
- 11:37lonely. You all started off in this together,
- 11:41and now, well, it's just you. They go on double
- 11:44dates, your married friends want to hang out
- 11:46with other married people, and you're invited
- 11:50as the fifth or seventh wheel, but it feels like
- 11:52a pity invite. Now, don't get me wrong, don't
- 11:54get me wrong, we'll take the pity invite, but
- 11:57it still feels that way nonetheless. And you
- 12:00can't help but sit there and imagine what it
- 12:01would be like to be in the group with your own
- 12:03partner right next to you. You ache, you yearn,
- 12:07you dream of doing life with someone, creating
- 12:10a life with someone. So... Just like anything
- 12:14we do in insanity, we just keep trying to date.
- 12:18But dating has changed a lot, especially since
- 12:22COVID, I will say. I remember in 2019 and 2020,
- 12:26I was seeing two guys at once. I know, scandalous.
- 12:30I decided to move forward with one of them, wrong
- 12:33choice by the way, and then ended it to move
- 12:37to SoCal. But dating back then was fun. It was
- 12:41easy. It was actually enjoyable. Now, not so
- 12:45much. You have to avoid the socially Christian
- 12:48guys, red -pilled men, and the boys whose parents
- 12:52forgot that they were raising future adults.
- 12:54It's exhausting. But you still keep trying. You
- 12:58keep putting yourself out there. Or if you're
- 13:01like me, you gave up and you put yourself on
- 13:04the top of the shelf and you're just watching
- 13:05the chaos go on around you. But you still can't
- 13:08help but wonder. Is it me? Am I the problem?
- 13:12And then again, you look at the chaos in the
- 13:14world around you and you realize, no, it's definitely
- 13:17not you. I personally have tried it all, y 'all.
- 13:22Meeting someone at a small group, out on the
- 13:25town, a dating app, speed dating events, you
- 13:28name it, I've done it. And it feels hopeless.
- 13:31But being single and wanting to mingle in this
- 13:34day and age, what does that even look like? They
- 13:38Whoever they is said that one out of four people
- 13:41in this generation will not end up getting married
- 13:44Low -key a scary thought But I want to remind
- 13:49you when you hear statistics like this that not
- 13:52everyone wants to get married like Genuinely
- 13:55ever so don't assume you will be the one when
- 13:58you might know the one already That has no desire
- 14:01to get married or have kids. They also say there's
- 14:05eight billion people in this world And you really
- 14:08think that you're the most special person in
- 14:09the world to never meet someone to marry? Probably
- 14:12not, babe. I hate to break it to you. I know.
- 14:16That's all I feel. Sometimes I'm like, wow, it's
- 14:18just me and it's always going to be just me.
- 14:19And then I'm like, if I'm willing to settle,
- 14:22there are 8 billion people on this earth. I probably
- 14:24could settle for someone. Anyways, how do we
- 14:28find someone in this day and age? Well, Jonathan
- 14:32Poluca, who I respect a lot, by the way, says
- 14:36to just run after Jesus, to serve in church,
- 14:39and look to your left or to your right and just
- 14:41marry the guy next to you. Honestly, that's not
- 14:45it. I tried that and then spent two years in
- 14:47therapy. Just because they go to church and serve
- 14:50doesn't actually mean they love Jesus, much less
- 14:53that they would be a good fit for you. I just
- 14:55can't help but feel though that it wasn't meant
- 14:57to be this way. They say we have a male loneliness
- 15:00epidemic, and I think they forget that we have
- 15:03a Christian girl loneliness epidemic as well,
- 15:06but the male loneliness one doesn't seem like
- 15:10they're lonely enough, because I see how they
- 15:12treat women, and they aren't treating us any
- 15:14better, and I don't know about you, but I refuse
- 15:17to lower my standards, even though I do think
- 15:21about it sometimes. Every once in a while I think
- 15:23about if the bar can go deeper than hell, but
- 15:26I do believe hell is the bottom. Recently though,
- 15:31I was talking to Jesus, as we all do. As I was
- 15:35leaving one of the weddings I was at, Loki crying
- 15:38in the car, but that is not the important part
- 15:41right now, so don't sit on that. I had just spent
- 15:44an amazing day at a beautiful wedding celebrating
- 15:47a very sweet couple. There were drinks and dancing
- 15:51and great food. You know, just the usual things
- 15:54at amazing weddings. So anyways... I'm driving
- 15:59home and just thought, why not me? Girl, I know
- 16:03you've had that thought. I said, am I not good
- 16:05enough? Am I not skinny enough? Am I ugly? And
- 16:10then I called my brother and I said, am I ugly?
- 16:13I went back to talking to Jesus and I said, have
- 16:15I not grown enough for you, Jesus? Are you just
- 16:20trying to keep me to yourself? Because that's
- 16:23hella selfish, if so. Like, don't you want to
- 16:26share me with someone great too and we can like
- 16:28be great together?" And then it hit me. I heard
- 16:33the Holy Spirit say, am I not a good father?
- 16:36Do I not give good gifts to my children? I was
- 16:40like, okay, well, all right, let's keep going.
- 16:45So then I said to him, am I not deserving of
- 16:48a good gift? Is marriage not a good gift for
- 16:51me? He said, is not my timing perfect? I was
- 16:55like, okay, okay, you right, you right, my B.
- 16:58You are a good father with good timing who gives
- 17:00good gifts. Sorry, I ever doubted it. I left
- 17:03that conversation and found a little bit of peace
- 17:06to hold on to after that. But it doesn't take
- 17:10away from the want that I feel and that's okay.
- 17:13If marriage is a good gift for you or me, wouldn't
- 17:17he give it to us in his timing? Here's the thing.
- 17:21The church did not set a singles up for success.
- 17:24In fact, it has failed us. Once you get to a
- 17:27certain age, there's nowhere for you to go group
- 17:30wise. You're not married or divorced, not a single
- 17:34parent, and at some point you grow out of the
- 17:37college and young adult group. If you grew up
- 17:39in church culture, then you were basically raised
- 17:42to be a wife. But then you look around and you
- 17:45can't find a husband. The bar scene is a no -go.
- 17:48No one is striking up conversation with strangers
- 17:50anymore and it feels like the world just isn't
- 17:54safe enough of a place for it anyways. Dating
- 17:57apps are treated like Sims games or online shopping.
- 18:01The team sport thing just isn't for everyone,
- 18:03even though some of us have tried and failed
- 18:06and speed dating events, one word, gross. So
- 18:10yeah, mingling isn't easy. Single and wanting
- 18:13to mingle? Definitely not easy. Single Christian?
- 18:18and mingling in hopes to meet someone to marry
- 18:21one day? Definitely not easy. But if you're single
- 18:26and not even close to being in a relationship,
- 18:29look at how you're spending your time. Are you
- 18:31the best version of yourself? If not, what are
- 18:34you doing with your time? If yes, how can we
- 18:38keep growing? You aren't just becoming the best
- 18:40version of yourself for a future partner or your
- 18:44future children, even though you are. You're
- 18:46becoming the best version of yourself so that
- 18:48you enjoy yourself and being by yourself in the
- 18:51meantime. Girl, pick up a hobby. Do things you've
- 18:55never done before. Enjoy your time. Don't wait
- 18:58around for someone to just live life with. Live
- 19:01life. Alright, now that I went on my little tangent,
- 19:04let's get back to why I'm bringing this up. I
- 19:07want to remind you of this thing. We have a good
- 19:10father that gives good gifts. He wants to give
- 19:14good gifts. He will not withhold a good gift
- 19:17from you that is for you. Matthew 7 verse 7 through
- 19:2111 says, Ask, and it will be given to you. Seek,
- 19:25and you will find it. Knock, and it will be open
- 19:27to you. For everyone who has asked receives,
- 19:30and the one who seeks finds. And to the one who
- 19:33knocks, it will be open. Or which of you, if
- 19:37his son asks for bread, will give him a stone?
- 19:40Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent?
- 19:43If you then, who are evil, know how to give good
- 19:46gifts to your children, how much more will your
- 19:49Father who is in heaven give good things to those
- 19:52who ask him? Ecclesiastes part A of this verse
- 19:55says in chapter 3 verse 11 that says, He has
- 20:02made everything beautiful in its time. Which
- 20:05means He has divine timing. You can't rush it.
- 20:08Do you rush a flower to grow? Probably not. because
- 20:12it wouldn't get anywhere very far. No, for something
- 20:15to be beautiful, it has to take its time. 2 Peter
- 20:19chapter 3, 8 -9 says, But do not overlook this
- 20:23one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day
- 20:27is a thousand years, and a thousand years is
- 20:29one day. The Lord is not slow to fulfill his
- 20:32promise, as some count slowness, but is patient
- 20:36towards you. This verse goes on to talk about
- 20:38repentance, but we also see in this part that
- 20:41we're talking about, it talks about promises.
- 20:44That what feels like a delay is good timing from
- 20:47a good Father to fulfill a promise. So, all I
- 20:51can say with encouragement for you and for me
- 20:54is, hold on to faith that He will give you a
- 20:58good thing in His own divine timing. Let's pray.
- 21:02Dear Jesus, I ask that you just give peace over
- 21:05the girls who are struggling with singleness,
- 21:08that you open their eyes to ways that we can
- 21:10all grow, grow closer to you, grow to know ourselves,
- 21:15that ways that we can produce fruit, ask that
- 21:18we continue to not just find peace in our singleness,
- 21:20but we find joy in our singleness, and that we
- 21:23have faith that you are a good father and a good

- 21:29will provide that which we are asking, that as
- 21:32we knock, you will open that door, that you give
- 21:36good gifts, that you aren't giving us a stone
- 21:38or a serpent, but that you show up and you show
- 21:42up with love. Have them know your love, Lord,
- 21:47and have faith that you will follow through.
