Transcript
- 0:17Speaker 1: Welcoming to Dagsam today. Training camp continues. This is our
- 0:21Speaker 1: seventh practice day as we enter week two or midway
- 0:24Speaker 1: through week two, i should say, at this point. But
- 0:26Speaker 1: started last week. Things are getting good as pads went
- 0:30Speaker 1: on on Monday, so we've got some real football to
- 0:31Speaker 1: talk about.
- 0:32Speaker 2: Scrimmage at the stadium on Friday night. That's the countdown
- 0:36Speaker 2: to the first preseason game a week prob.
- 0:38Speaker 3: Yeah, we're into it now. I mean it's Tuesday was
- 0:41Speaker 3: the first what I consider like real training camp practice
- 0:43Speaker 3: because they not only practicing pads, they went deep. They
- 0:47Speaker 3: did about two hours, so it felt like they were
- 0:50Speaker 3: going on Tuesday, and I'm sure we felt like it's
- 0:52Speaker 3: going the rest of the week too.
- 0:53Speaker 1: All right, let's go over some of our big things
- 0:55Speaker 1: from the last week that we saw seeing at practice
- 0:57Speaker 1: so far. Big thing number one is keep it clean.
- 1:00Speaker 1: As we've mentioned, there's new offense, new defense being installed here,
- 1:03Speaker 1: and a lot of pressure being put on Trevor Lawrence Brian.
- 1:06Speaker 1: We've talked a ton about what we expect from him
- 1:08Speaker 1: this season, but so far, he's been keeping it clean
- 1:09Speaker 1: and he looks like he's an understanding of what the
- 1:12Speaker 1: say system is going to require from him.
- 1:14Speaker 2: Well, we heard about the test that they took when
- 1:16Speaker 2: they first reported and how well he did, and Liam
- 1:18Speaker 2: Cohen is said all through the offseason, John that Trevor
- 1:21Speaker 2: is progressing and understanding what they're asking him to do.
- 1:26Speaker 2: You know, you'd like to see a couple of those
- 1:27Speaker 2: practices where the ball never hits the ground, right. We
- 1:29Speaker 2: haven't seen that yet, so it's not been entirely clean.
- 1:32Speaker 2: But there's a lot to like from just the very
- 1:34Speaker 2: early days of camp about where Trevor says he is
- 1:37Speaker 2: and where he's showing it when he's on the practice field.
- 1:39Speaker 3: Yeah. I don't know that you need to see a
- 1:42Speaker 3: no hit the ground practice when they're going full like this,
- 1:45Speaker 3: because you can't. You sort of hope the defense makes
- 1:47Speaker 3: a player too, because then you're giving up fun.
- 1:50Speaker 2: I don't want them to drop it either.
- 1:51Speaker 3: So it's uh. Somebody asked me yesterday, how's Trevor look?
- 1:57Speaker 3: Not spectacular, not bad? My guess is if you ask
- 2:01Speaker 3: Liam Cohen away from the media, he'd be like, I'm
- 2:03Speaker 3: fine with that. Trevor is. He looks like he's getting it.
- 2:06Speaker 3: He looks in control. He doesn't look lost to me.
- 2:10Speaker 3: If he progresses and knows what he's doing. This spectacular
- 2:14Speaker 3: will come as he has knowledge and confidence in his
- 2:17Speaker 3: footwork in this offense. So I'm encouraged because it looks
- 2:20Speaker 3: like he's fine.
- 2:21Speaker 2: We heard the center Robert Hasey after practice on Monday,
- 2:23Speaker 2: talk about his command in the huddle, the way that
- 2:27Speaker 2: he's holding guys accountable, play to play, some of the
- 2:30Speaker 2: little things that you not expect to have to look for.
- 2:33Speaker 2: But we are here in his fifth season and it's
- 2:36Speaker 2: good to hear that he's doing that.
- 2:38Speaker 1: Let's go to our second big thing, which is physicality.
- 2:40Speaker 1: As we mentioned, the pads went on earlier this week.
- 2:42Speaker 1: Liam Cohen weighed in on what he thought of the
- 2:44Speaker 1: first day of paddish practice.
- 2:48Speaker 4: I thought that the offense came out and kind of
- 2:51Speaker 4: set the tone a little bit offensively in the run
- 2:54Speaker 4: game throughout the course of the day. Now, there were
- 2:56Speaker 4: still some good plays here and there on both sides,
- 2:59Speaker 4: but I was pleased to see physicality but taking care
- 3:02Speaker 4: of one another like it didn't get sloppy or stupid.
- 3:07Speaker 4: It it was just good quality work. We put the
- 3:09Speaker 4: pads on. That doesn't mean we have to cheap shot
- 3:11Speaker 4: each other or do anything ridiculous, and I thought it
- 3:14Speaker 4: was just good quality work from both sides and got
- 3:17Speaker 4: our first day of pads in John.
- 3:19Speaker 1: One of your favorite days of practice. They put the
- 3:21Speaker 1: pads on, they got after it for real a little bit,
- 3:23Speaker 1: saw some real football out there. It's nice to see
- 3:25Speaker 1: that intensity back into the game.
- 3:27Speaker 3: Yeah, I thought you could really see it. And I
- 3:30Speaker 3: don't want to overplay it, but I thought Monday was
- 3:33Speaker 3: as physical a first day in pads quickly. I'm not
- 3:39Speaker 3: gonna say as I've ever seen because Brian, we were
- 3:41Speaker 3: there in the nineties when you saw pads go on
- 3:43Speaker 3: in May. But I'm exaggerating. But but I thought that
- 3:52Speaker 3: Liam Cohen's coming in here and he wants to establish
- 3:55Speaker 3: the run, he wants to establish physicality. I thought there
- 3:57Speaker 3: was a message on Monday and Tuesday to be physical.
- 4:00Speaker 3: They're gonna hit. It felt like real football, and I
- 4:03Speaker 3: thought he was exactly right. But you didn't see him
- 4:05Speaker 3: going to the ground. It felt like smart, good practice
- 4:09Speaker 3: that day. It fit to me what he wants to be.
- 4:13Speaker 2: I wasn't surprised that the first live team drill was
- 4:19Speaker 2: running the ball right. I mean, in fact, I was
- 4:21Speaker 2: encouraged by because I wanted to see with all these
- 4:23Speaker 2: new people that are engaged in the offensive line, I
- 4:27Speaker 2: wanted to see how they would come together in a
- 4:31Speaker 2: physical sense. And I was listen. Travis etn who's not
- 4:34Speaker 2: a guy who you think of as being a physical back,
- 4:36Speaker 2: was banging it up in there behind them, and Ted Bigsby,
- 4:39Speaker 2: who you know is a physical guy, was showing you
- 4:41Speaker 2: what he's got. And then some of the younger running
- 4:43Speaker 2: backs all were able to show it too. This team
- 4:47Speaker 2: has got to establish the run. We've gone over and
- 4:49Speaker 2: over on that. They've been so poor kai on third
- 4:52Speaker 2: down and one or two yards and it's really thrown
- 4:56Speaker 2: the offense off the last two seasons. They've got to
- 4:59Speaker 2: get it fixed, and that step on Monday look like
- 5:01Speaker 2: they're a long way towards getting it where they want to.
- 5:04Speaker 1: Be, absolutely, and offensive line is a huge part of that.
- 5:06Speaker 1: We're going to talk a little bit more in depth
- 5:08Speaker 1: on that later in the show. Let's do our final
- 5:10Speaker 1: big thing today though that's missing an action. Obviously this
- 5:12Speaker 1: time of the year, you get injuries that happens. We
- 5:15Speaker 1: have heard throughout the week some things that are racking
- 5:18Speaker 1: up a little bit. Monterrek Brown will miss the remainder
- 5:20Speaker 1: of training camp with a foot of injury. We've seen
- 5:23Speaker 1: Patrick McCary banged up on the offensive line. Liam Cohen
- 5:25Speaker 1: talked a little bit about when those people are out
- 5:28Speaker 1: what that means for other players.
- 5:30Speaker 4: Gives us an opportunity to get guys reps, you know,
- 5:33Speaker 4: I mean we expect them back for the season obviously,
- 5:36Speaker 4: and so gives a great op for Jarion Jones obviously,
- 5:40Speaker 4: Travis to continue to get quality reps, and Trey Prince
- 5:43Speaker 4: and some of these guys to continue to get rev
- 5:45Speaker 4: Zach McPherson and saying with Christian Brad as well. So
- 5:49Speaker 4: it just gives us ops. Yeah, it's a bummer a
- 5:50Speaker 4: little bit for Buster. I love Buster, but it is
- 5:53Speaker 4: always when anytime that happens, it is completely a new
- 5:56Speaker 4: window and opportunity for somebody else. So the reps are
- 5:59Speaker 4: quality for us.
- 6:01Speaker 1: So unfortunately, Buster Brown will be out for trading camp.
- 6:03Speaker 1: As mentioned some other injuries around, obviously Mason Smith starting
- 6:06Speaker 1: out the season on pupp as well, Brian, but gives
- 6:09Speaker 1: extra reps to some of these other guys that we
- 6:10Speaker 1: don't know quite yet well, and.
- 6:12Speaker 2: I saw Trey Prince early on Monday, and you know,
- 6:14Speaker 2: I was banging that drum last year because he's a
- 6:16Speaker 2: guy that I think has a lot of talent and
- 6:18Speaker 2: can contribute, and now he's going to get an opportunity.
- 6:20Speaker 2: Whether he's ready for it or not, we're going to
- 6:22Speaker 2: find out. The one thing about injuries, John, is we
- 6:24Speaker 2: know there's more on the way. Right when you get
- 6:26Speaker 2: into the preseason games. There will be guys that get
- 6:29Speaker 2: banged up. So far, nothing appears to be so serious
- 6:32Speaker 2: that you know you're gnashing your teeth and gripping your
- 6:36Speaker 2: hands and all of that stuff. But it's football.
- 6:39Speaker 3: It's a league of attrition. But I think a positive
- 6:43Speaker 3: early has been that McCary went out. My understanding is
- 6:47Speaker 3: that Chima Adoga has played very very well in his place.
- 6:53Speaker 3: I think you're going to see during camp the after
- 6:58Speaker 3: effects of what they did in the offseason. Offensive line,
- 7:00Speaker 3: although they did a nice job of not only you know,
- 7:03Speaker 3: filling out their first team depth chart, but getting guys
- 7:06Speaker 3: in here who not only can compete the other side
- 7:08Speaker 3: of competition is being there in case there's an injury.
- 7:12Speaker 3: They feel pretty deep and balanced on the offensive line.
- 7:16Speaker 3: I don't know how great they're going to be. They
- 7:17Speaker 3: have to prove that they're going to be a good
- 7:19Speaker 3: to great offensive line, but they do feel like they
- 7:22Speaker 3: had the pieces in place to withstand a few training
- 7:24Speaker 3: camp injuries.
- 7:25Speaker 1: All right, stay with us here, we got a ton
- 7:26Speaker 1: to talk about. We'relied from training camp here at the
- 7:28Speaker 1: Miller Electric Center. We're gonna go over the offensive line
- 7:31Speaker 1: and all of the changes when we come back.
- 7:32Speaker 2: After the break.
- 7:37Speaker 1: Jack xam tag brought to you by Field Auto Group
- 7:39Speaker 1: Seafields First, Jacksonville's premier luxury auto group. Go to Fieldsauto
- 7:43Speaker 1: dot com.
- 7:46Speaker 5: It's absolutely helpful the flexibility of those guys to be
- 7:49Speaker 5: able to fill different spots. I think you probably saw
- 7:51Speaker 5: Tumas play tackle, play some guard past couple of days,
- 7:54Speaker 5: and really we have a bunch of guys who can
- 7:55Speaker 5: play different positions. It's a testament to their work and
- 7:59Speaker 5: their ability to be a to play in those multiple spots.
- 8:01Speaker 5: It's not easy to go from playing on the left
- 8:02Speaker 5: side to playing on the right side, let alone from
- 8:04Speaker 5: the left side outside to the right side inside. So
- 8:07Speaker 5: that takes a lot of work, not only in the
- 8:09Speaker 5: drill work with Coach Sirett and the rest of the staff,
- 8:12Speaker 5: but from studying and knowing my calls at guard are
- 8:14Speaker 5: different than my calls at tackle. So to have that
- 8:17Speaker 5: group that has the flexibility mentally and physically is really
- 8:20Speaker 5: nice for us to know. It's a little bit of
- 8:22Speaker 5: depth and security blanket, but also we can mix and
- 8:25Speaker 5: match different groups of guys and see that chemistry kind
- 8:27Speaker 5: of build out throughout camp.
- 8:29Speaker 1: So fends a coordinator Grant Yeddinski weighing in a lot
- 8:31Speaker 1: of moving parts here at training camp. We're live outside,
- 8:34Speaker 1: well inside technically at the Miller Electric Center.
- 8:36Speaker 2: Just enough inside to get the air conditioning.
- 8:38Speaker 1: It's enough. That was very crucial to this whole outside
- 8:42Speaker 1: show thing. But let's talk a little bit about you know,
- 8:44Speaker 1: we're talking about versatility. So many of these guys that
- 8:46Speaker 1: have been brought in were brought in for that, and
- 8:49Speaker 1: as we mentioned, some people out with injury right now,
- 8:51Speaker 1: there's some names to focus on and some new faces.
- 8:54Speaker 1: So we wanted to mention but who's a name that
- 8:56Speaker 1: maybe people aren't familiar with yet or is new to
- 8:58Speaker 1: the team, that you think is imtant for them to know.
- 9:00Speaker 2: Well, John talked to about him at the end of
- 9:02Speaker 2: the A bloc and we just heard Grant Yudinsky talk
- 9:04Speaker 2: about Chuma Ydoga. But he's a guy that is two years,
- 9:10Speaker 2: seven million dollars. So he comes in and he pushes
- 9:13Speaker 2: Anton Harrison all spring at right tackle. They were wanting
- 9:16Speaker 2: the former first round pick to be pushed and challenged.
- 9:18Speaker 2: He did just that. He's played right tackle in Jacksonville,
- 9:22Speaker 2: and now the other day, with the injury to Patrick McCary,
- 9:25Speaker 2: has to step inside to guard. I was told by
- 9:27Speaker 2: someone who knows that he is really good at a
- 9:30Speaker 2: position that he hasn't played a lot. He's a guy
- 9:33Speaker 2: who is a former third round pick. Kai didn't work
- 9:35Speaker 2: out in New York, didn't work out in Atlanta, but
- 9:38Speaker 2: he found himself in Dallas and here he is. I
- 9:41Speaker 2: think he's the epitome of what they've done on the
- 9:42Speaker 2: offensive line. You talked about depth. They may need him
- 9:45Speaker 2: to start if Patrick McCarry isn't able to get back
- 9:47Speaker 2: into the lineup soon with his back, he may be
- 9:50Speaker 2: a guard because he's only six foot three and he's
- 9:53Speaker 2: just a very valuable guy. And when you start talking
- 9:55Speaker 2: about Travis Hunter and all the big name additions that
- 9:57Speaker 2: this franchise made, this guy is quietly one of the
- 10:00Speaker 2: most important ones. At least early in camp, it appears.
- 10:03Speaker 3: He will be Yeah, if you look at the the
- 10:06Speaker 3: entire season, and I just looking right now, it's hard
- 10:09Speaker 3: at this point to imagine him not playing a role somewhere.
- 10:13Speaker 3: At some point, you're gonna have injuries. I don't know
- 10:15Speaker 3: if he keeps this job that he's working at right
- 10:18Speaker 3: now over McCary, but there's so many injuries and he's
- 10:21Speaker 3: so versatile that at some point he's gonna matter a lot.
- 10:25Speaker 3: He feels like a guy who may be playing well
- 10:27Speaker 3: enough and maybe good enough that when he gets that opportunity,
- 10:30Speaker 3: it's not just an opportunity, it's a job.
- 10:32Speaker 2: I know they're missing him at Dallas this week because
- 10:34Speaker 2: Tyler Goeyton, their first round pick last year, he couldn't
- 10:37Speaker 2: handle the job, and sho Chiuma went in and played
- 10:39Speaker 2: left tackle a year ago, and Geyton got hurt last
- 10:42Speaker 2: week on the practice field, And now I doogo who's
- 10:45Speaker 2: a guy that they were relying on last year is
- 10:47Speaker 2: in Jacksonville and jackson glad to.
- 10:49Speaker 1: Have it, hopefully to our benefit. John, When you were
- 10:51Speaker 1: looking at some of the new players, maybe fans aren't
- 10:54Speaker 1: familiar with who's someone that's really stood out to you?
- 10:56Speaker 3: Well, I think people know about Jamy Brown. I mentioned
- 11:00Speaker 3: him because I think he's so important. Is a piece.
- 11:03Speaker 3: We talk about Travis Hunter, We know about Brian Thomas Junior.
- 11:07Speaker 3: I think about last year when it was Brian Thomas Junior.
- 11:11Speaker 3: At the end of the season, Parker Washington had emerged
- 11:15Speaker 3: as a second guy. Brian very quickly. Who's the third guy?
- 11:19Speaker 3: I can't remember right, and I'm not knocking who it was.
- 11:22Speaker 3: My point is, once you got past anybody, and Parker
- 11:26Speaker 3: Washington's really probably a three or four, there really wasn't
- 11:29Speaker 3: a guy the defenses had to worry about. It looks
- 11:32Speaker 3: like Jammy Brown. He had a really good practice I
- 11:34Speaker 3: think it was Monday, where he caught three or four
- 11:36Speaker 3: passes and did things that look like they're going to translate.
- 11:40Speaker 3: Trevor hit a deep ball to him right down here,
- 11:42Speaker 3: about a forty five yard pass in situational. This guy
- 11:46Speaker 3: looks like he's gonna matter. I don't know if that
- 11:48Speaker 3: means eleven hundred yards. If defenses have to worry about
- 11:52Speaker 3: him and they're already worried about the other two guys,
- 11:54Speaker 3: he could have some games where he sneaks up on
- 11:57Speaker 3: people and has huge games.
- 11:59Speaker 2: If if he's anywhere close to the numbers that you
- 12:02Speaker 2: just mentioned, he's the most significant third receiver in franchise history.
- 12:06Speaker 2: I mean you have to go back to Willie Jackson
- 12:08Speaker 2: when Jimmy and Keenan were on the field together to
- 12:10Speaker 2: find a guy that was as dependable and could make
- 12:13Speaker 2: big plays. And I think he's got that field stretching ability.
- 12:17Speaker 2: We've seen it out here that the Jaguars have long
- 12:20Speaker 2: looked forward, no matter who the head coach was, to
- 12:22Speaker 2: have in the passing attack. And this guy, if Hunter
- 12:25Speaker 2: steps up into the role that we expect at number
- 12:28Speaker 2: two with Brian at number one, Brown, I think he's
- 12:32Speaker 2: got a chance to be the best third receiver. This
- 12:34Speaker 2: franchise is a I think.
- 12:35Speaker 3: About the one year in recent years where they've had
- 12:37Speaker 3: something close to that kind of balance, and it is
- 12:39Speaker 3: in twenty two and you had Marvin Jones Christian and
- 12:42Speaker 3: you had z A. Jones going. I think this group
- 12:46Speaker 3: can be better than that group. But that group, for
- 12:48Speaker 3: a while had that thing where you weren't sure who
- 12:51Speaker 3: to guard. All three of them could do it. This
- 12:54Speaker 3: feels like a bunch that can do that if they
- 12:56Speaker 3: can stay healthy and they're if they're what they're showing
- 12:59Speaker 3: so far, absolutely.
- 13:00Speaker 1: Have to remember he's on a one year proven deal
- 13:02Speaker 1: as well, so he'll have that internal motivation to want
- 13:05Speaker 1: to prove himself and get another long term deal locked up.
- 13:08Speaker 1: For me, I went to the defensive side of the ball.
- 13:10Speaker 1: Jordan Lewis coming in from the Cowboys as well. Just
- 13:13Speaker 1: his leadership that we've seen immediately in the back end
- 13:16Speaker 1: of the field. I think we put so much focus on,
- 13:18Speaker 1: you know, whether it's the linebackers to lead the defense. Obviously,
- 13:21Speaker 1: I think you need someone in each section of the defense,
- 13:23Speaker 1: whether it's Josh heinz Allen or Treyvon up front, and
- 13:27Speaker 1: then kind of the linebacker group with waya Luke and
- 13:29Speaker 1: but Jordan Lewis to me, is certainly that in the secondary.
- 13:32Speaker 1: So far, he's played nickel, he's played outside where he
- 13:36Speaker 1: will be and this defense will kind of see when
- 13:38Speaker 1: that comes together when game time comes. But having that
- 13:40Speaker 1: veteran presence and having kind of someone just as a
- 13:45Speaker 1: coach on the field like we like to talk about,
- 13:47Speaker 1: I think has already shown itself, even in just a
- 13:49Speaker 1: week of training camp.
- 13:51Speaker 2: Leadership can sometimes get overblown. He's showing it. And for
- 13:55Speaker 2: all the things that you just said on the field.
- 13:57Speaker 2: I heard that when the team was presented with the
- 13:59Speaker 2: concept of it in Ingram's comments right, that he was
- 14:02Speaker 2: the first one to stand up and say that isn't
- 14:04Speaker 2: us right, that's he's in here from Dallas. He is
- 14:08Speaker 2: the leader in that secondary, clearly from a veteran perspective,
- 14:12Speaker 2: and I was encouraged to hear you. I love that
- 14:15Speaker 2: in Ingram. I was encouraged to hear that he stood
- 14:17Speaker 2: up and pushed back to his teammates.
- 14:19Speaker 3: Yeah, Jordan Lewis gets his hand on the football and
- 14:21Speaker 3: he's made plays. I don't want to say every practice
- 14:23Speaker 3: we've had, what six or seven so far, at least
- 14:26Speaker 3: four or five times he's he's defense passes or he's mattered.
- 14:31Speaker 3: I almost hesitate to city. We're all talking about free agents.
- 14:33Speaker 3: Everybody knows how I feel about free agency, and everybody
- 14:36Speaker 3: knows what happened last year when free agency was sort
- 14:38Speaker 3: of a washout. But don't all three of these guys
- 14:42Speaker 3: have this feel in training camp of I don't know
- 14:44Speaker 3: if they're gonna be Pro Bowlers. I don't know if
- 14:46Speaker 3: they're gonna be you know, guys that we remember in
- 14:49Speaker 3: ten years. But don't they all feel like they're gonna
- 14:52Speaker 3: matter and be able to contribute. If they get that
- 14:55Speaker 3: sort of production and reliability out of free agency, then
- 14:59Speaker 3: this team can take steps.
- 15:00Speaker 2: Maybe they're going to get the same sort of production
- 15:02Speaker 2: that they got in twenty twenty two, which helped push
- 15:04Speaker 2: this team into a position at the end of the
- 15:06Speaker 2: year to make a playoff front.
- 15:08Speaker 1: Nice this he's a mentorship from him as well. I've
- 15:10Speaker 1: seen with Jarian Jones all the time Travis hunder talks
- 15:12Speaker 1: about the influence kind of working with him, so not
- 15:14Speaker 1: only you know, bringing in his perspective, but helping those
- 15:17Speaker 1: around him, which bringing everybody up.
- 15:19Speaker 2: I think there's something to play in the Dallas too,
- 15:21Speaker 2: you know, where the spotlight is so bright all the time,
- 15:24Speaker 2: no matter what. And he was a guy that really
- 15:26Speaker 2: valued in that secondary. He knows what it's like to
- 15:29Speaker 2: play on a big stage and a lot of these
- 15:30Speaker 2: young guys don't, so there's something he really adds.
- 15:33Speaker 3: He's also guys had to warn He's had to earn
- 15:36Speaker 3: his way here. He was not necessarily an elite player
- 15:41Speaker 3: or a premium draft pick when he came out, so
- 15:44Speaker 3: he has had to earn his way into this position.
- 15:48Speaker 3: From listening to him a couple of times when he's talked,
- 15:51Speaker 3: it seems like he's really enjoying and valuing being sort
- 15:55Speaker 3: of that veteran that guys can look up to. He's
- 15:57Speaker 3: probably looked forward to that role, knows this role does
- 16:00Speaker 3: forever in this league, so you take advantage of it,
- 16:02Speaker 3: and I think he's embracing that.
- 16:04Speaker 1: We're gonna talk about the specific position groups throughout the
- 16:07Speaker 1: rest of training camp, and coming up next, we're gonna
- 16:09Speaker 1: talk about the offensive line and tell you what you
- 16:11Speaker 1: need to know. Set Up Moving and Storage is Florida's

- 16:41Speaker 1: We are finally back out here at training camp, excited
- 16:44Speaker 1: to see these guys in action. So we're gonna start
- 16:46Speaker 1: by going through all of the position groups throughout Jags
- 16:49Speaker 1: AM and we're gonna start off with the offensive line.
- 16:51Speaker 1: It always starts in the trenches, so why not start
- 16:54Speaker 1: talking there. We heard from Robert Hainsey earlier this week.
- 16:57Speaker 1: Because we presume will be the center. I don't know
- 17:00Speaker 1: if we can presume many of the positions because as
- 17:02Speaker 1: we've just discussed, there's a lot of competition throughout the line,
- 17:05Speaker 1: but we presume he'll be the starting center. He talked
- 17:07Speaker 1: a little bit about, Yes, there are injuries, there are
- 17:09Speaker 1: people moving around, but most of this is just about consistency, John,
- 17:13Speaker 1: and kind of getting you to who you're working with
- 17:14Speaker 1: and all pulling the right way.
- 17:16Speaker 3: It takes time, and you know, I think this will
- 17:19Speaker 3: be a process that you watch as training camp goes on.
- 17:22Speaker 3: I anticipated Robert Hainsey starting. I would also anticipate Anton
- 17:27Speaker 3: being on on the right side and walk a little
- 17:29Speaker 3: bit on the left, or there's gonna be a competition there.
- 17:32Speaker 3: You know. It's it's encouraging that we've seen it so far.
- 17:37Speaker 3: I thought on Monday and Tuesday it looked closer to
- 17:41Speaker 3: like you want it to look. Then maybe I expected
- 17:45Speaker 3: it too early. Look, this is the storyline. We're not
- 17:51Speaker 3: gonna know during pre season. If Trevor's there, we may
- 17:55Speaker 3: not even know about the secondary, we can get a
- 17:57Speaker 3: good idea how the offensive line is going to be.
- 18:00Speaker 3: So it's really the preseason storyline to me in terms
- 18:02Speaker 3: of you are also seeing competition Ryan Well.
- 18:05Speaker 2: He's such a critical component of this offensive line, ky
- 18:08Speaker 2: because he was peppered with questions about Liam Cohen, about
- 18:11Speaker 2: the running game in Tampa that improved so dramatically last
- 18:14Speaker 2: year and really tilted their fortunes towards success and if
- 18:18Speaker 2: they were playoff teams. So he understands what the offense is,
- 18:22Speaker 2: what the expectation of the quarterback is, and how the
- 18:25Speaker 2: offensive line has to function in order for the running
- 18:28Speaker 2: game to be as good as they were in Tampa
- 18:30Speaker 2: last year. So I agree with you. I think he's
- 18:32Speaker 2: I'm not sure that he specifically was that important of
- 18:35Speaker 2: a storyline, or at least we didn't talk about him
- 18:37Speaker 2: in those terms throughout the spring, but it's becoming clear
- 18:40Speaker 2: that if Trevor is going to get where he's going
- 18:42Speaker 2: to get to, that guy's going to have a lot
- 18:44Speaker 2: to say about it.
- 18:45Speaker 3: Yeah, the center's got to be the voice, and he's
- 18:47Speaker 3: the voice.
- 18:48Speaker 1: Mentioned Anton Harrison, who this is his third season rookie
- 18:51Speaker 1: season looked good last year, a little bit of regression there.
- 18:55Speaker 1: Head coach Liam Cohen talked earlier this week about their
- 18:57Speaker 1: expectations for him.
- 19:00Speaker 4: Definitely for the for the first few I've been I've
- 19:02Speaker 4: been very pleased with Anton, and you know, we've mentioned
- 19:05Speaker 4: that to him and I asked him, you know, the
- 19:07Speaker 4: other day in the hall, I said, Hey, is this
- 19:09Speaker 4: going to be every day? Is this how it's going
- 19:11Speaker 4: to be every single day? And you know he was
- 19:13Speaker 4: very adamantly yes and so and that's what we have seen.
- 19:17Speaker 4: So for him to take a step in the right
- 19:21Speaker 4: direction in our eyes, for sure, I think is only
- 19:23Speaker 4: going to help us moving forward because he's so talented
- 19:26Speaker 4: and when he plays locked in, he plays with great
- 19:28Speaker 4: effort and he strains through the end the echo of
- 19:30Speaker 4: the whistle, good things typically happen.
- 19:34Speaker 1: Talent is certainly there obviously last year trying in many
- 19:36Speaker 1: ways for many of us. So I don't know if
- 19:39Speaker 1: there was that going on, but you know, when they're
- 19:41Speaker 1: talking to him about effort and they're seeing that, now,
- 19:43Speaker 1: that's buy in.
- 19:44Speaker 3: As far as I'm concerned, Well, I just.
- 19:46Speaker 2: Think Liam mailed it with the locked in right. I
- 19:48Speaker 2: know there were a couple of plays on the practice
- 19:50Speaker 2: field the other day where he wasn't as locked in
- 19:52Speaker 2: as he had been, and it was pointed out to
- 19:54Speaker 2: me that that's it with him, that's what they've been
- 19:56Speaker 2: driving him towards. That's why they had Chuma brought in
- 19:59Speaker 2: to push him there, to teach him about focusing from
- 20:02Speaker 2: the first part of the whistle to the second whistle
- 20:05Speaker 2: right
