- Canon Stogner: Welcome back to Thursday's episode of the Saturday Sleep Podcast. Andrew, as a Cubs fan, you have to be feeling incredible about how the playoff went. Andrew Wright: Yeah. Glad it's over. Canon Stogner: Yeah. I'm just told Braves got a big one tonight. Night game, which I think is good. I think it's good to kind of recover. But anyways, previewing a lot of the games this week. we got Few SEC games. A lot of SEC teams are on buys this week, which I thought was Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: odd. Or not odd, but you know, just weird this early in the season 'cause it does still feel early. we'll be previewing the Iowa State game and a bunch of others. and then we'll also be doing our spread picks at the end. we're about middle of the pack right now. Nobody's really separating themselves or, you know, breaking away with it. but first and foremost, like always, we are going to break down the South Carolina game first. number twenty-four, Kentucky will travel to Columbia at Willie B. And it's this game will kick off at four fifteen. Kentucky is ranked number twenty-four, first time being ranked under Will Stein. they are three and one while South Carolina is two and two. these programs have lot of history. They've played thirty eight times. Sarcalon leads the series twenty two and fourteen. and one. And Sarkalon has won the last four meetings. they won ten straight from like two thousand, two thousand nine. And then Kentucky won five straight from twenty fourteen to twenty eighteen. And then like I said, Sarcon has won the last four. Sarkalon won last year's game thirty five to fourteen at home. Or 35-13 at home. so had a pretty good history against him. Shane Beam has been really well against him. but this is a massive game for South Carolina, Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: not necessarily for like the rankings or you know, playoff or anything, but it's that game where like you probably have a better roster than Kentucky. You probably have the better quarterback on paper. You probably Probably have the better defense. And now it's time to, you know, put up or shut up. Because I think a lot of people are fighting for jobs this week. I think Shane Bamer, if they lose this game, he's done. Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: I think it's the last game of his tenure. if Lenore Sellers plays bad, could be the last game of his career. I just Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: don't s I think the noise is getting a little too loud. About Cutter Woods and I think a lot of fans are pushing to see him. and then lastly, I think if they were to lose this game and all else goes wrong, then like you said on Monday, this could be the last we've seen of Dylan Stewart. Just because if you go into this game, you're two and two. which to be fair, a lot of people, at least n national media people, probably expect you to be three and one Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: at this point. So if you go into this game and you're two and two, if you lose this game, it's it's over with. It's wraps. Andrew Wright: Right. Yep. Canon Stogner: Nothing, nothing to come back from. Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: but if you win this game, you're three and two. You got a ranked win at home and you're kinda right back into it because then you head to Florida at a noon game, which favors the way team. Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: And then you go into your bye week. So if you can somehow rattle off the next two going into your bye week, I think things could look fine. Andrew Wright: Yeah. Canon Stogner: but we'll see. I've been talking a lot of smack about Will Stein, so hopefully he doesn't just, you know, drag me across the field. Andrew Wright: Yeah. Canon Stogner: But yeah, what do you what are what's your take? Andrew Wright: yeah, like you said, this is such a massive game for coaches and their futures with the program. just really at this point with the roster that they've had going through the season and kind of what we were expecting, you just can't lose to Kentucky in year six under Shane. I just that like you said, that's just not acceptable. And it probably is his last game if he loses. I think and I could be wrong in this, I think Shane Beamer's first SEC loss was to Kentucky back in twenty twenty-one. So how fitting would that be if his first and last Canon Stogner: Yeah, but I that that game got vacated. Yeah. Andrew Wright: did it? Okay, well, all right, never mind, Shane Paper. Good for you. Canon Stogner: Undefeated. Andrew Wright: Yep. I do think it's it is kind of crazy basically what we've seen from South Carolina over the last two weeks and then what we've seen from Kentucky over the last two weeks that South Carolina is favored in this game. That is that's a little that's a little fishy, kinda like we saw the Florida old miss line, Florida's favored, like wide in the world is this the case and they hunk fifty. So I guess that's something to be happy about, look forward to. Vegas usually knows what they're doing in these spots, so there's there must be a reason that we're favored. But yeah, just just have to win this week at home. I'm excited to see what the crowd's like. Just to kinda see who shows up, who's bought in, at what point do they start booing. I'm I'll be very Canon Stogner: it's gonna be it's it's gonna be a loud crowd. Andrew Wright: I'll be very excited to see that and watch that. But yeah, have to win. Lenores has to play well. I just, yeah, we the fan base cannot handle a loss to Kentucky in year six under Shane B. Mercy, I completely agree with you. If he loses, he's done. And then you don't know what the interim coach is going to do with the quarterback situation. So like that's up in there. Like you said, so yeah, just very, very, very important game for him and his future with the program. And like you said, if if they can somehow Canon Stogner: This isn't this is an all tale week. Andrew Wright: If they can somehow rattle off two in a row, like you said, they have s they get so much more momentum heading into that bye week into the back half of a schedule that has lightened up from what it looked like at the beginning of the season. So yeah, just yeah, just Canon Stogner: That's what that yeah, that's what I'm s that's what I'm saying. When you I would argue this part of the schedule they're in right now is tougher than the Andrew Wright: Has been yeah, and it's been tougher than what the back half should or the middle the the Canon Stogner: Yeah. Andrew Wright: beginning of the back calf should be against like Oklahoma and A Canon Stogner: Cause you got you've got Andrew Wright: and Canon Stogner: you got a bye week, and then you have the Oklahomas and the AM, then you got Arkansas. Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Yeah. Canon Stogner: Who else am I missing? Tennessee. You Andrew Wright: Tennessee, yep. Canon Stogner: have Tennessee, and then you got Georgia Clemson. Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: I mean, obviously you have Georgia that you're wor worried about, but other than that, everybody else looks beatable. And ever Andrew Wright: Right. Yeah. Canon Stogner: and the teams that Sarkon's playing is the same is saying the exact same thing. So we're Andrew Wright: yeah. Canon Stogner: we're not being biased here. I mean, this is just the truth. Andrew Wright: Right. Canon Stogner: But yeah, it's gonna be a toxic fan base. And here's the thing. They're probably gonna run a play on the first play and get a yard or two or maybe even lose some yards. And fans are gonna boo and yell at Beamer. And like I just hope I don't want to out their names. They may not want to be known to be out there. But Andrew Wright: Yeah. Canon Stogner: the people that are the friends that are sitting in our seats, I just hope they turn around and tell them just shut up. Like just Andrew Wright: That's right. Canon Stogner: shut up. Watch the game. Why'd you come if you're gonna do this? Andrew Wright: Yep. That's right. Canon Stogner: so yeah. we'll see. I don't it won't be no sold out crowd. They haven't announced that yet, have they? Andrew Wright: No, not that I've seen. Not that I've it's getting late in the week too. Canon Stogner: Yeah. they might do on Friday night. But just a little in last year's matchup, Saccom's defense dominated Kentucky. They had four turnovers, six sacks and eleven tackles for loss, and only allowed two hundred and thirty two yards. A lot different this year without Dylan Stewart playing. That was kinda like his okay, Dylan Stewart's finally here last year's game. Andrew Wright: Yeah. Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: but yeah, so Sarcons defense is going to have to hold their ground and not miss assignments because Will Stein is an offensive coach and he will exploit that if given the chance. all right. Let's move on to the biggest game in the Big Ten this week. between number five, Ohio State, and number 14, Iowa. With the Buckeyes traveling to Iowa City for the Hawkeyes to take on the Hawkeyes at Kennick Stadium. it will start at 3 30. Iowa is undefeated at 4-0 while Ohio State is 3-1, although their only loss came to Texas. This is the first time since 2006 that these teams will meet with both ranked in the top 15. And it's also the first time since 2006 that Game Day is returning to Iowa City. Ohio State leads the all-time series 48 to 15 and 3, and they've won the last two meetings, including the most previous one in 2024. Iowa comes in hot, just came down to the wire against Michigan, last play of the game. big pass, like to the corner to end zone, and got his feet in, touchdown, win the game. you know, I feel like I was a little different this year with the way that they're throwing the ball. I feel Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: like they run it a ton, but I feel like they're not as run heavy. They're run happy, but not as run heavy. Andrew Wright: Yeah, there go. Canon Stogner: to run it. I mean, Iowa is averaging 32 points a game and 430 yards per game. And they've also pitched two shutouts already on defense this year. So they're pretty well-rounded football team. I mean, they complement each other, play well on both sides of the ball. Their quarterback has not thrown an interception this year. Hank Brown, he's thrown for 700 yards and five touchdowns. And he threw for seventy-eight of his ninety one yards on the game winning drive on Saturday. However, Ohio State's gonna thrash him in this. Nobody can stop Jeremiah Smith at all. probably had his best game in his career last week, would you say? Andrew Wright: either either that or the game against Oregon and the Rose Bowl a couple of years ago. Canon Stogner: Yeah, he caught twelve for two seventeen with four touchdowns Andrew Wright: Yeah. Canon Stogner: against Illinois. he leads the country in like all categories now in receiving. And that's the guy that you would expect. Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: but dude, do you remember like whenever Marvin Harrison was coming out of the draft, like how hyped up he was? Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. absolutely. Canon Stogner: I I feel like him and Jeremiah Smith are completely different. Like there's not Andrew Wright: yeah. Yeah, like Canon Stogner: a world for a bust in this guy. He is Andrew Wright: No, never. And I I really don't think anybody expected that with Marv either though. But like, still, like we've seen that there was one, there ain't one with Jeremiah Smith. There's never a world where he's not good in the NFL. Ever. Canon Stogner: Yeah, but like Marv. I don't know, he's got problems catching the ball, and then he's letting it affect him and running lazy routes and stuff, but he's got problems catching the ball. Jeremiah Smith's got them hands. Andrew Wright: Yeah, he does. Canon Stogner: Jeremiah Smith got hands. He's really he's go he's yeah. We will talk about that later on this year whenever the draft comes up. But yeah. Andrew Wright: Yeah. Canon Stogner: Jeremiah Smith, Brandon Ennis, Julian Saiyan, Bo Jackson, keep it going. Playing at Iowa, I feel for Andrew Wright: Yeah. Canon Stogner: I feel for Iowa City. But go ahead. Andrew Wright: yeah, really good win for them last week, obviously. You get all this momentum build up. And like you said, you get game day for the first time in twenty years. That place is gonna be electric. Like it'd be better for them if it was a night game. But three thirty is still not a bad start time. That place will be rocking. It'll won't be the toughest environment how the state's played in. They're kinda already built for that with the game at Texas. And yeah, like you said, I feel bad for Iowa and those fans because they just don't have anybody that can stop Jeremiah Smith and anybody that can stop Julian Saiyan from getting him the ball. So it'll be interesting to see if they can kind of keep it close in the first half just to see if there is something they can do to kind of at least slow him down and try to keep the ball away for a little bit. Like you said, they have thrown the ball more. I wouldn't be surprised to see them go back to just like a really, really, really run heavy just to try to churn out yards and churn out the clock and keep the ball away from Ohio State because Ohio State can't score if they don't have the ball. But yeah, at the end of the day. the more talented team, the more talented quarterback and the more talented skill poster players and the way better defense probably is going to, I think, probably win in a runaway victory. I'm thinking like a thirty one to ten Ohio State, thirty four to ten Ohio State. Canon Stogner: Okay. I wish we had Will in here 'cause Will would have defended Iowa, the Hawkeye in Iowa City. Andrew Wright: Ha ha ha. Canon Stogner: last week was a great matchup for Michigan. And I even said it like before the game, I was like, this is a great matchup for Michigan. I mean for Iowa against Michigan. This is not a great matchup for Iowa. No, no, Andrew Wright: Yeah. No, not at all. Mm mm. Mm mm. Canon Stogner: no. so yeah. Maybe that'll be one of our spread picks this week. But yeah. We'll see. Could be a blowout, but I'm happy that Game Day's finally going to a Big Ten school Andrew Wright: Yeah. Canon Stogner: and getting away from the SEC because a lot of people have been complaining about it. But you know why you why Game Day's been going there? 'Cause that 'cause Andrew Wright: Tell Tell why. Canon Stogner: they produce the most game the best games every week because they're the deepest conference. So Andrew Wright: That's right. That's right. Canon Stogner: stop complaining. If you come if you get mad about where they're going every week, host your own college football show. Go get your guys and take somewhere. but anyways, all right, let's move on to Miami versus Clemson. number four travel to Memorial Stadium, Death Valley. this game's set for 730 on ABC. Miami comes in at 4-0 while Clemson is 3-1 and 2-0 in conference play with their only loss coming to LSU in the opener. Miami's averaging 361 passing yards a game and 230 rushing yards. And they're just allowing nine points and two twenty five yards per game. Clemson's averaging twenty-one points and three hundred and fourteen total yards per game, which is funny to say because like Miami's averaging more yards and one offensive category than that. Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: but they are three one. defense is allowing just twenty two points and three hundred and seventy two yards per game. Twenty two, a lot of that has to do with the LSU game. Darien Minsa has thrown for 1,200 yards, 14 touchdowns, and zero interceptions through four games. He's completed 86% of his passes. Tate Reynolds thrown for 521, one touchdown and two picks. He's completed 62% of his passes. My or the all-time series between these two is tied at 7 and 7. Clemson won four straight meetings from 2015 to 2022. Miami won the most recent matchup in overtime in 23. but yeah, both teams in S ACC are two and But you know, on paper, this game should be a blowout. Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: On paper it should be. if you look at the names, you know, you're probably like, that's a good big game to watch. Should be a blowout. It is at Clemson. It's a night game. Their defense has looked really good. Teams have had a very hard time throwing the ball. Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: so yeah, this game kind of gives me the critter jitters. Andrew Wright: Yep, I'm yeah, I'm I'm about the same way about that. Just this feels like a just a weird spot and something that's really lining up for Clemson, like you said, night game at home. They got the big prime time crew calling the game. And then we kinda know how Dabo is with kind of building his team up and playing like the underdog role and that plays into his hands perfect this week 'cause they are the biggest underdog they have Canon Stogner: huh. Andrew Wright: ever been in his tenure as head coach. So he's got all week to pump that into them, make them make make sure they know that like, hey guys, like this team I'm coaching right now, this is the biggest underdog we've ever been since I've been here. Like we gotta make we gotta make that count for something. So yeah, just I don't like the way I feel about the game. Like you said, Miami should win on paper. There's a reason the spread is what, sixteen and a half, seventeen points. So there's Canon Stogner: Eighteen it was, Sunday. Andrew Wright: there and there's a reason that that is to spread. But yeah, I just very, very, very weird feeling about this. I think I saw Clemson hasn't given up a touchdown on defense in about twenty straight drives. So yeah, their defense is like really, really kind of showed up and stepped up. So yeah, very Miami better not take this game lightly. It's kind of the way I look at it. They better not go in there thinking they just go walk all over Clemson because we've seen Clemson do this before. And we could look up in the fourth quarter on Saturday night and Clemson could have a 23 to 21 lead with the ball or something. We're like, my God, are they about to do it again? So yeah, Miami should definitely like take this serious and not kind of go in there just treading lightly and thinking they're going to run all over Clemson because that's that's not going to happen. Canon Stogner: Yeah. I haven't gotten to watch a lot of their like recent games. I watched the Wait Forest game and a little bit of their first game. But I just know that during those games, Mark Flesher wasn't really carrying the ball a ton. Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: He's more of the power back, you know, slower and just gonna run over you. But Clemson just does such a good job of like selling out for the run and stacking Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: the box and making you throw the ball. And I'm not gonna say they're not good. I'm not saying they're not good. And I'm not saying like they get away with stuff, which I think all most teams get away with the same thing. But Clemson's corners are always very good. They're very good at getting away with the holds that most Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: refs can't see. I Andrew Wright: Yeah. Canon Stogner: think I don't know if it's the angles or like whatever, but they under s it feels like they understand a lot on how to cover receivers and get away with the handsy stuff. Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: which when you're doing that, you can sell out for the run. Andrew Wright: Yeah. Canon Stogner: And just bank on your guys to, you know, cover the receivers. so Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: yeah, Clemson's very good at that. They're gonna have to keep Malachi Tony in check. I mean, he's been running away. But this does feel like the game, I mean, because we said before the season started, Mario Cristobal has never been to the ACC championship, never won the ACC championship. Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: and he always has those hiccup games. Andrew Wright: Yeah. Canon Stogner: Doesn't look like they're gonna have those hiccup games against the teams that they shouldn't have those hiccup games against, which leads me to the belief that it could be Andrew Wright: Yeah, we could. Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: And it's gonna it is it it pains me that this could happen because I will be with Clayton during this game. Andrew Wright: Mm. Canon Stogner: And after the text messages, the disgusting, horrific, unwarranted. Could didn't fill the room messages that he sent me Sunday after that Panthers game. He he Andrew Wright: Yeah. Canon Stogner: one of us is in for a long night. It ain't it it ain't gonna be it it's not gonna be all like raises roses and daisies. Cause here's the thing, Clayton's win the Clayton's gonna be like if they lose by like two points, but at least we're lost by two. man, he's one of those. No, Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: I love love Clayton. All right. Alabama, Mississippi State. Big matchup number seven, Alabama sixteen, Mississippi State. this game sp will s start at noon. both teams come to the game undefeated at four and two and in conference play. Alabama's averaging forty eight points per game through four games. Alabama is at s they've had 1900 yards so far this year on offense through four games. 1100 passing yards and seven fifty rushing yards and they're allowing 20 points per game. Mississipp State is averaging 43 a game, and they have 2100 yards, 1200 passing, and 900 rushing, and they're allowing 21 points per game. So both teams are pretty much identical in offensive and defensive stats. the quarterback in this game, I think the winner of it, the winner of who plays better in this game is going to be the team that wins. Keelan Russell has been absolutely dominant since probably since those first two turnovers against Kentucky. Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: He may as well be the one of the best quarterbacks in college ball right now. Andrew Wright: Yeah. Canon Stogner: After that, after that. Not over Camaro Taylor, not over Darien Minsa, but he's been very good. he's playing confident, he's trusting his receivers, his line's blocking for him, and he's running the ball. And that was the thing. If you if you go and watch South Carolina against Mississippi State, Camario Taylor made some big time throws under heavy pressure. Andrew Wright: Mm. Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: Like in his face. Keelan Russell was making big time throws while he was at church. I mean. They wa and there was nobody back there. Andrew Wright: Right. Canon Stogner: and you gotta remember Mississippi State only had one sack on Lenoris and Andrew Wright: Mm. Canon Stogner: Miss Alabama's offensive line's a lot better than South Carolina's. So I think Kamara Taylor's gonna have make the same amount of big throws. Kane Womak's more drop back in coverage and kinda let your D line get there. So he's Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: gonna have to do that, but like We said it, Mississippi State runs that tough offense that's really you gotta sell out for one thing and hope that you're where you're down a number can step up and make a big play. Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: so very good game. The Cowboys are gonna be ringing or dinging. I'm very happy for Mississippi State, like just to see them in this position. 'Cause I do think if there is one team in SEC that I had to cheer for and it wasn't Sac Carolina, Mississippi State probably be there. Or I wouldn't say that. They're they're just the least hated. Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Yeah. Canon Stogner: Alabama has won sixteen consecutive games against Mississippi State. They lead the all time series eighty eight and eighteen and three. and they're also twenty two and four all time in Starkville. last time Mississippi State beat Alabama was two thousand seven, and this will be the Alabama's first trip to Starkville in Four years. Andrew Wright: This is I think this is definitely like my favorite game of the weekend to watch. Just because the two quarterbacks we're gonna have playing with Keelan Russell and with Camario Taylor, probably two of the I'd say probably two of the three best in the SEC so far this year. I think you have Trinidad, you have Camario, and you have Keelan Russell so far in the SEC that's really kind of played the best. I do think, and this is something I kind of saw last night, just scrolling, I think the weather forecast Saturday is pretty nasty. Like lot of rain, lot of wind. So we could go if if that is the case and if that does play a factor like it potentially could, we could go from seeing two really, really good quarterbacks that we like seeing throw the ball that can really, really spin it down the field, to both of them using their legs, to those run games getting involved. And I think I don't know how much that how much you think that changes the game if it goes from Camario with Keelan throwing it to Fluff Bothbell and Alabama having to run the ball. Canon Stogner: Definitely favors Alabama. Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: I think it changes things for Mississippi State with the fact that like every play they run is an option route Andrew Wright: Yeah. Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: and play action. But if you can't throw the ball, then that same tech that same offensive Andrew Wright: Yeah. Canon Stogner: game plan is not gonna work. But one thing about Camaro Taylor, he kinda he reminds me he gives off the same mannerisms as Cam Ward. Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: Kinda that he's just so lax back there and like Not that he doesn't care, 'cause he obviously cares, but it's just like he doesn't I don't know. I don't know. What's that? Andrew Wright: He's not he's not phased by a pass rush in his face. He's c he's comfortable in the pocket, is what he is. Canon Stogner: Yeah, but s yeah, but sometimes it's like it's a little too much. Like Cam War Cam Ward does a little too much. Camario Andrew Wright: It it can be, yeah. Right. Canon Stogner: Taylor, I'm not saying he does a little too much, but I think he gets so relaxed back there that he doesn't look to run much at all. Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Yeah. Canon Stogner: It's very rare that you see him take off. He I mean, he d honestly didn't take off that much against South Carolina. I mean a couple of times he did, he it paid off, but Andrew Wright: Yeah. Canon Stogner: yeah. So I don't know how much It changes yeah, I think it changes Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: it more for Mississippi State though. I think Alabama's run Andrew Wright: Yeah, so it's it Canon Stogner: run game is a lot better. Andrew Wright: and if that is the case, then you they'll have a a tough uphill battle to climb. I I hope I guess I would say my hope is that the weather clears up and that we do get to see Keelan Russell and Kamara Taylor launch the ball thirty five times apiece, 'cause that would make for fun TV and a really fun game. And what a win this potentially could be for Mississippi State. I'm not I seriously do not know how I think this game plays out yet, but what a win that could be f with all the stats you said. Lost sixteen straight. Bambo's twenty-two and four all time on Starkville. Like that could be such if Bisco State hasn't already announced that they're real, like this would be the one. Like, hey, like we are here. Like we are a legit football team. And like they'll move up inside the top ten. If they went to a very, very big spot, that place will be insane. Rain or shine. That place will be nuts on Saturday afternoon. And like we always talk about noon games, usually favors. the road team and even with this being ranked, like Alabama would have a much tougher time going in there at night like Missouri had to do last week. So yeah, I would defin I would lean Alabama just a bit just because of noon start, potential weather, but I would not be stunned Mississippi State won at all. Canon Stogner: I Andrew Wright: Let's see, yeah. Canon Stogner: I'm I'm pulling for Mississippi State. I really am. Andrew Wright: a hundred percent. That'd be s that'd be so big for them. Canon Stogner: all right, for our second ranked matchup of the week, SEC matchup, we have number 25 Missouri taking on number eight Florida at 3:30. All these games are in the afternoon or lunch. Andrew Wright: Mm, yeah. Canon Stogner: What are we doing? Florida comes into the game four and And two and in the conference, Missouri's three and one and one and or and one in SEC play after losing to Mississippi State last week. Florida's averaging fifty four points a game. they have twenty one hundred yards, thousand passing yards, thousand rush yards, which they're averaging the same amount of yards as Mississippi State. But a lot more passing yards for Mississippi State. they're allowing just twenty two points a game. both quarterbacks have Played really well this year. Both running backs have played really well with their this year, even without Ahmad Hardy for Missouri. the Gators rushed for three hundred and two yards against R the Rebels last week. Jaden Ball had three touchdowns in that game. and then obviously Missouri coming off that loss to Mississippi State. The series is all time seven to seven. Missouri won in twenty twenty-one in overtime by one point. And then Missouri also won thirty-three to thirty-one on a field goal with five seconds remaining in twenty twenty-three. So Eli Drankwitz has been pretty good against Florida. I think this is a whole different Florida team he's messing with. Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: the only thing about Drankowitz that although I can't stand the guy, it's very rare that he gets blown out. Andrew Wright: Right. Canon Stogner: He usually has like he's usually in it for a while against a lot of these SEC teams. but this is a game where I think he could get blown out. Andrew Wright: Yeah. Canon Stogner: I just don't know how good their defense is. I mean, obviously Ole Miss's defense is not that great. Andrew Wright: Right. Canon Stogner: Hasn't looked that great all year, to be honest. but I don't think they have more talent than Ole Miss does. And I really don't think I don't really don't know if it does matter who's on your defense. Andrew Wright: Yeah, I I'm I'm not sure it does it. That that Florida running back duo is insanity with Jaden Ball and Duke Clark. Like they definitely Canon Stogner: Yeah. Andrew Wright: have been like the top duo in the country so far this year, 'cause when you have the best running back in the country, it's pretty easy to have the best duo in the country. Canon Stogner: Yeah. Andrew Wright: So they've been very good. I'm not too concerned about it. It could be a letdown spot for Florida. Could be if things kinda go awry at the beginning of the game. Like you're coming off such an emotional, humongous win last week. So you could it could be a little bit of a letdown spot and you have Missouri on the other side trying to rebound from a loss on the road. Tough one that they had a lead in the fourth quarter. So that there is like a slight concern about that, about Florida kind of just coming in, still emotional off last week and kind of being sloppy, but I don't think that happens. Like you said, this is just such a completely different Florida team. I know before the season, I thought Florida would be good. Like I and I kinda said that like I had them right inside top twenty five when we had our question of who could be ranked higher at the end of September, I said Florida. I didn't think they'd be this good. And like I was I reflected that when we did our season long picks with Will and them like I only had them at eight wins because I knew they'd be good. I didn't know they'd be this. And yeah, this this is just a completely different Florida team. And I do see them are they a home or on the road? Canon Stogner: Is that Missouri? Andrew Wright: At Missouri okay. So that that makes it a little tougher. But I do still see Florida going in there getting what would be somehow another ranked win, because you know, Missouri just never drops out of the rankings ever. Canon Stogner: Yeah. Andrew Wright: I think I saw a stat that Drinkwits when they're ranked is like one in thirty-one against SEC opponents. And they're always ranked. I'm like, how's that possible? So yeah, that would be a good resume booster for Florida, I guess, if they could say they got another ranked win. So yeah, I fully expect Jaden Ball, Duke Clark for them to if it's close to the beginning for those for them to at least kind of Help them pull away late. Canon Stogner: I I I just spas Eli Dranquit. Andrew Wright: Me too. And I think I think Austin Simmons has played really good football this year. I Canon Stogner: Yes. Andrew Wright: thought he was really good last week. So like he can keep them in the game if they can get down the field and score. I just don't see him being able to score enough. Canon Stogner: Yeah. All right. We gotta start talk stop talking about drink with so I'm gonna lose my mind. Andrew Wright: Mm. Canon Stogner: let's jump into the last game. By the way, this isn't gonna be a long episode. so we only got this game and then our spread picks just not as good as slate this weekend. that ties into that. And also Will couldn't make it, so another voice that would take up time is just not here. Auburn number 17, Tennessee, 330 at Neyland Stadium. both teams are three and one right now. Auburn one and one in SEC play while Tennessee is an O one. Tennessee's come off their loss to Texas where they couldn't really get the running game going. Fazine branded like he's never thrown a four pass. and then all of a sudden you look and Tennessee's recovering onside kick and then throwing a Hail Mary. at the end of game. Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: which kind of showed down Texas is, but yeah, I don't Auburn's defense has been I don't want to say bad this year, but like they win a game early on against Baylor seventeen to sixteen. So they've won the close game. Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: And then you go and play Florida. It is a home game, but you play Florida and you lose forty four to thirty nine, which was a lot closer than the old miss game against Florida. Andrew Wright: Yeah. Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: You go and beat Southern Miss 43 to 18. And then you beat Vanderbilt 21 to 15. So it really looks to me that Auburn's scoring how they want to. They want to score if if defense ain't gonna stop. I they're playing good complimentary football. You know, maybe Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: defense has a tough night. I mean, like we said, Auburn or Florida scored forty-four on them, they go and score forty. You know. Or they've w shown that they can win games 17 to 16, 21 to 15. So Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: I think Auburn's more built for this moment. I think Tennessee's playing at home, you know, coming off an emotional loss last week, you know, where everybody's talking about your game the whole week, and now you got Auburn. I think this is one of those games where Aubur Tennessee could, you know, settle down and really Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: go out there and win how they're supposed to. But I don't know. Auburn I haven't w gotten to watch any of Auburn this year, just the schedule hasn't worked out to be around at the same time as they're playing. But they seem to be a decent team this year with Alex Golish. What do you Andrew Wright: Yeah, they do. They seem to be playing pretty well. I mean, like I said, just been a lot of box score looking at with them. And it seems like Byron Brown's playing well for the most part. I think he's throwing the ball well. Looks like he's running the ball well. They're still kind of using them the same way. Goal is used in a South Florida last year. I do think, like you said, this could be a spot where Tennessee comes home and they settle down and they get a game against a much less Of a ho much less of a quality opponent and Faison Brandon can settle back in and hit some throws that he was missing last week. I don't think he's going to get sacked ten times on Saturday like he did last week. So I think that'll help calm him down a little bit. But again, like you said, it could be a game where they're still reeling from that loss last week. And Auburn comes in there and Byron Brown goes on the road into probably what's the probably the toughest environment he's played in in his career at Tennessee. And he does somehow show like he's a he's a real good SEC quarterback, and they can go in there and pull off away. So yeah, I would I would think Tennessee wins. I would think they come back home in front of their fan base and they get things back going and kind of get themselves back on the right path down the stretch. But would not be surprised in the slightest to see Auburn go in there and pull off an upset. And kind of that would basically almost end Tennessee season if they lose on Saturday to Auburn because that would put at two SEC losses already. So yeah, I would Canon Stogner: Yeah. Andrew Wright: like to not be surprised at all to see Auburn go in there and get a pretty big upset win. Canon Stogner: Auburn does leave the all lead the all time series twenty-nine and twenty-two. Auburn won the most recent meeting in twenty twenty. Thirty to seventeen. this is Auburn's first trip to Needland Stadium since twenty eighteen. So be nice to see them two get back at it. I don't know if I mentioned it, but this game starts at three thirty. Another three thirty game. What the heck? all right, Andrew. Go ahead and review our spread picks from last week and what our overall is. Andrew Wright: so yeah, last week, first under 500 week for us, I believe we went seven and eight. I was three and two. Cannon and Will, we're both two and three. So for the season, Will still has the season lead. He is seventeen and thirteen. for me, I don't have it right in front of me. I'm trying to remember what it was before last week. I know Will seventeen and thirteen. Will was ten and five before, fifteen and ten before last week. I think I was thirteen. Canon Stogner: thirteen twelve. Andrew Wright: I was thirteen, twelve, you were twelve and thirteen. So I'll I would that would put me at sixteen and fourteen and you would be at fourteen and sixteen. So yeah, we'll Canon Stogner: Okay. Andrew Wright: still have the lead in terms of record and points. And then me and you were kind of fighting for second with points. So yeah. Seventh. Canon Stogner: And you won last week? Andrew Wright: yeah, I won last week. Canon Stogner: So you get to go first. Andrew Wright: All right, if I'm first, I'll I'll take the honors. I'll take I'll take Penn State minus two and a half against Northwestern tomorrow night. I think I think they bounce back from a really, really tough loss. I this Northwestern is a like sneaky, like that's a tough game tomorrow night with the way they played Indiana last week and kind of had a chance almost the entire fourth quarter. But I'll take Matt Campbell and Penn State to bounce back because I do still think they're a really good team. I just think they let a game get away from them last week. Canon Stogner: Okay. I'll take Mississippi covers the spread versus Alabama at five and a half. And then on the wraparound. Give me pit versus Virginia Tech. Virginia Tech's favored by three. Andrew Wright: Hey, shout out to that game by the way. First game ever of two powerful undefeated teams n unranked. Which is nuts, by the way. Canon Stogner: Wait, say that again? Andrew Wright: So they're both four and This will be the first time ever that two power four teams that are four and play each other when they're both unranked. Canon Stogner: Okay. You said four note, okay. Andrew Wright: Yep. So you had Mississippi and Pitt. All right, I will take Louisville minus three and a half against NC State. I think the spread's way too low, just to be completely honest with you. This was one Canon Stogner: Yeah, I did too. Andrew Wright: this was one of those games before the season we kinda looked at as like, man, this could be a really big game in the ACC. And then even though Louisville's two and two, they're still a really good football team. They Canon Stogner: Yeah, they they ran into a buzz all last week. Andrew Wright: did. And like, yeah, like Lake Force is really good football team. You know who's not a really good football team? NC State. Canon Stogner: Ha ha Andrew Wright: NC State's not a really good football team. Canon Stogner: Yeah, I agree. Andrew Wright: So yeah, I just I think three and a half is too low. I think Louisville beats them pretty handily. So I'll take Louisville and then coming back around the other way. A game I think the wrong team's favored in. I'll take West Virginia plus three against Iowa State. That we really I don't think we really discussed it much. That West Virginia Oklahoma State game last week was incredible. Canon Stogner: Yeah. Andrew Wright: And West Virginia's a really good team. And I I just don't think that Iowa State is. We saw them go play Iowa, who looks better than we might have thought, but they only put up thirteen points against Iowa. So I just I just think West Virginia is the better team. So I'll take the underdog there that I think is the better team. Canon Stogner: Well, Mesta Maker and the boys are ranked now, right? Andrew Wright: Yeah, they are like number nineteen. So yeah, give me Louisville in West Virginia. Canon Stogner: Okay. I got two picks right here, right off the dome. U N L V is favored versus Cal at two and a half. Give me Cal. Andrew Wright: See, we keep going back to that cow well and they ain't done nothing for us all year. Canon Stogner: And then on the wrap round, Virginia is favored by two and a half against Florida State. Gimme gimme Virginia. Andrew Wright: Yeah Yeah. Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: Give me Virginia. Andrew Wright: All right, my last two, I will take Minnesota plus five and a half against Michigan. I I don't know if you saw PJ Fleck on Friday on Saturday after they beat Washington or not. Did you see that? I just think Canon Stogner: Yeah. Drop wiping blood on his face. Andrew Wright: yeah. I think that that like it really seems like that culture and that program is kind of back to where it was twenty one, twenty two ish, when they were rowing the boat and he was going on McAfee show every other week talking about it. I do think they're back there. And I think They get Michigan at home with Michigan coming off a really tough loss. And I just think five and a half is a lot of points. I wouldn't be surprised Michigan wins like a really close game, but I will take Minnesota to cover the five and a half. And then just for the sake of just hopefully doing something the way it always works out, give me Kentucky to cover two and a half on Saturday against South Carolina. I'm hoping the re Canon Stogner: It's three, it's three right now, it's three. Andrew Wright: So give me Kentucky to cover three. I hope the reverse jinx works. That's all I'm hoping for there. Give me Kentucky plus three. Canon Stogner: That was what I was gonna take too. Andrew Wright: Yeah, you took my virginity pick. I really didn't have anything ready off for it. Canon Stogner: All right. Both of these teams right here are one and three. Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: But I've watched this other team play twice. They've had a tough schedule and they're not a bad football team. Give me Georgia Southern to beat Coastal, the spread is two and a half. Georgia Southern. It is at coastal, but Andrew Wright: All right. There they are, so yeah, good good call, good call. Piotr, you probably wore. Canon Stogner: Hey Will Morris, you're live on the Saturday Slate Show. we're doing our spread picks right now. Have you given your spread picks? Give me We'll let him we'll let him do some some of those games. you got Mississippi State, Bama, Sarkalina, Kentucky. Yeah. He takes Bama. Andrew Wright: Goodbye. Okay. Canon Stogner: Andrew has. Andrew Wright: I'll pick K tell them tell them I pick Kentucky though. Canon Stogner: But he picked Kentucky. Andrew Wright: Yeah. Canon Stogner: Course. Okay. you got Iowa Michigan if you want to flirt with that game. It's sixteen now, sixteen and a half. Yeah, a lot of games seem to be getting poured on this week. Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: But What's what's the Florida Missouri spread? Have of y'all picked that? and a half Florida. Three and a half Florida. no, maybe five and a half. So Dang it. it's five and a half Florida. Take take your gators. Take your gators. Okay, give me the gators there. Gators, five and a half stoops. Andrew Wright: Alright. I need one more. Canon Stogner: One more. No, Andrew Wright: No. Canon Stogner: we didn't mess with that. Andrew Wright: Thirteen or fourteen, yeah. Canon Stogner: I think now is let me see. It's fourteen. Fourteen and a half? Yeah. Okay. You Andrew Wright: Okay, there it is. Canon Stogner: know, I said we were not trashing on Iowa, but we said like this is just a bad matchup for them and I was Ohio State's gonna dog and we were like, Man, we really w we really wish Will was here to defend his guys. My heart's involved out so I'm on the outlets. I gotta I gotta go with the Hawkeyes. Yeah, yeah, yeah. All right. Well appreciate it. We'll see you. Andrew Wright: Yeah. Canon Stogner: all right. Andrew Wright: All right. Canon Stogner: So we got our spread picks in. breaking news, breaking news. We do have breaking news. Andrew Wright: Okay. Canon Stogner: I'm saddened to say. Heartbroken. we are either not going to have a podcast out on Monday because I will not be here. I will be in Buffalo going to watch the Bills Patriots game. So we'll either not have a podcast at all for the recap. Or It won't be posted until Tuesday. Maybe looking towards a Tuesday slate. Andrew Wright: I don't appreciate getting the breaking news the same time as everybody else did, but that's okay. Canon Stogner: Listen, man, you know you know Andrew Wright: That's okay, I guess. Canon Stogner: You know how I am. I I play the game like I play the game. I can't let I can't let any rats or any leeks get out if my own guys don't know, you know what I'm saying? Andrew Wright: Yeah, I gotcha. Canon Stogner: That's that's how I do it. But anyways, we'll probably be out on Tuesday, but I'm confirming to you right now there will be no episode on Monday. No episode. and by Andrew Wright: Okay. All right. Canon Stogner: the way, we did an incredible job on our last video. I don't know what happened. I don't know if it was the caption or what, but we did Andrew Wright: Yeah. Canon Stogner: an excellent job on analytically analytically wise wise. Analytically. Is that am I saying that right?
