- 0:12Hello friends, It's Sean here, and it is so good that you have
- 0:17chosen this moment to invite me into your day.
- 0:20I wonder where you're at, what you're up to, how you're going.
- 0:25Are you just starting out the day and this is as your brain
- 0:29wakes up? Or is this as you are in the car
- 0:31driving somewhere? Or perhaps you are going for a
- 0:34job? Good for you if you are
- 0:36currently exercising. I am not.
- 0:38Well, it's hard to read the Bible while exercising, which is
- 0:41the beauty of podcasts, but but wherever you are at the
- 0:44beginning, middle, or end of your day, busy, active, or
- 0:48chilled, great to have your company.
- 0:51As we will read another chapter of God's Word together.
- 0:55And as we read, we will be learning more about this young
- 1:00man named David, and in doing so, learning more about what God
- 1:06has planned for his kingship over our lives and how Jesus
- 1:13wants to be king. In your heart and mine, and over
- 1:17each person who walks the face of this earth, we have a big,
- 1:22loving God and King, my friends, and it is so great that we can
- 1:28come before him this morning. Come, Holy Spirit, Teach us,
- 1:33Shape us. Use your word to bring us closer
- 1:37to you. Well, with all that said, let's
- 1:42read, shall we? First Samuel, Chapter 19.
- 1:56Saul now urged his servants and his son Jonathan to assassinate
- 2:01David. But Jonathan, because of his
- 2:04strong affection for David, told him what his father was planning
- 2:08tomorrow morning. He warned him he must find a
- 2:11hiding place out in the fields. I'll ask my father to go out
- 2:15there with me and I'll talk to him about you.
- 2:17Then I'll tell you everything I can find out.
- 2:22The next morning, Jonathan spoke with his father about David,
- 2:26saying many good things about him.
- 2:28The king must not sin against his servant David, Jonathan
- 2:32said. He's never done anything to harm
- 2:35you. He has always helped you in any
- 2:38way he could. Have you forgotten about the
- 2:40time he risked his life to kill the Philistine giant and how the
- 2:45Lord brought a great victory to all Israel as a result?
- 2:49You were certainly happy about it.
- 2:51Then why should you murder an innocent man like David?
- 2:55There is no reason for it at all.
- 2:59So Saul listened to Jonathan and vowed as surely as the Lord
- 3:03lives, David will not be killed. Afterward, Jonathan called David
- 3:10and told him what had happened. Then he brought David to Saul,
- 3:14and David served in the courts as before.
- 3:18War broke out again after that, and David led his troops against
- 3:22the Philistines. He attacked them with such fury
- 3:26that they all ran away. But one day, when Saul was
- 3:30sitting at home with a spear in hand, a tormenting spirit from
- 3:35the Lord suddenly came upon him again.
- 3:38As David played his harp, Saul hurled his spear at David, but
- 3:44David dodged out of the way and leaving the spear stuck in the
- 3:48wall, he fled and escaped into the night.
- 3:53Then Saul sent troops to watch David's house.
- 3:57They were told to kill David when he came out the next
- 4:00morning. But Michael, David's wife,
- 4:03warned him if you don't escape tonight, you will be dead by
- 4:08morning. So she helped him climb out
- 4:10through a window, and he fled and escaped.
- 4:14Then she took an idol and put it in his bed, covered it with
- 4:18blankets and put a cushion of goat's hair at its head.
- 4:21When the troops came to arrest David, she told them he was sick
- 4:25and couldn't get out of bed. But Saul sent his troops back to
- 4:29get David. He ordered.
- 4:30Bring him to me in his bed so I can kill him.
- 4:35But when they came to carry David out, they discovered that
- 4:39it was only an idol in the bed with a cushion of goats hair at
- 4:42its head. Why have you betrayed me like
- 4:45this and let my enemy escape? Soul demanded of Michael.
- 4:50I had to, Michael replied. He threatened to kill me if I
- 4:54didn't help him, so David escaped and went to Rama to see
- 4:59Samuel and he told him all that Saul had done to him.
- 5:03Then Samuel took David with him to live in Naya off.
- 5:07When the report reached Saul that David was in Naioth in
- 5:11Ramah, he sent troops to capture him.
- 5:14But when they arrived and saw Samuel leading, a group of
- 5:17prophets who were prophesying, the Spirit of God came upon
- 5:22Saul's men, and they also began to prophecy.
- 5:26When Saul heard what had happened, he sent other troops,
- 5:29but they too prophesied the same thing happened a third time.
- 5:34Finally, Saul himself went to Ramah and arrived at the great
- 5:39well in Seco. Where are Samuel and David?
- 5:43He demanded. They are in Neath in Rama,
- 5:47someone told him. But on the way to Naioth in
- 5:51Ramah, the Spirit of God came even upon Saul, and he too began
- 5:57to prophecy. All the way to Nayon, he tore
- 6:01off his clothes and lay naked on the ground all day and all
- 6:05night, prophesying in the presence of Samuel.
- 6:08The people who were watching exclaimed.
- 6:11What Is even Saul a prophet? Jesus, we thank you that you
- 6:27have a plan for us, and that plan is good.
- 6:31And your plan didn't begin when we got out of bed this morning,
- 6:34but your plan began aeons ago. So many generations ago you were
- 6:42preparing the way to come and save us, and that we could live
- 6:47this life in your presence, growing in our relationship with
- 6:52you and in our service of you, our Triune God.
- 6:59You are amazing and our small human minds.
- 7:02As much as we try to understand just how vast your plans are and
- 7:05how deep your love is for us, we just cannot do it.
- 7:10So we just surrender to Your magnificence and enormity, and
- 7:17we love you and we are grateful for you.
- 7:20And it's in your name we pray all of these things.
- 7:23Jesus. Ah man.
