- 0:01Speaker 1: Has gone, has shown up fine turn into dold grit,
- 0:08Speaker 1: and so we all must have been it were we
- 0:20Speaker 1: are make a red jade sole Sackey. I gotta hear
- 0:26Speaker 1: Steve Perry right here.
- 0:29Speaker 2: There he is, well, Daryl Hall on the explamation part
- 0:34Speaker 2: of it right here, Okay, well point of the explanation
- 0:40Speaker 2: here it is a Texan Tuesday here on a thirteen.
- 0:44Speaker 2: Michael Jackson is not. It was not a native Texan.
- 0:48Speaker 2: Daryl Hall is not a native Texan. Steve Perry not
- 0:50Speaker 2: a Native Texan. Dion Warwick not a native Texan. Bruce
- 0:53Speaker 2: Springsteen nodded, Cindy Lauper you hear hitting the high notes there,
- 0:58Speaker 2: None of those are native tech Billie Nelson is and
- 1:01Speaker 2: he was there on that.
- 1:02Speaker 1: The reason why I had Jake pull this up.
- 1:05Speaker 2: It was nineteen eighty five and I saw a documentary
- 1:09Speaker 2: on this. It was called The Greatest Night and Pop
- 1:12Speaker 2: and what it was was about the compilation of We
- 1:17Speaker 2: Are the World, this song and the whole movement. And
- 1:20Speaker 2: it came literally on the same night they had the
- 1:23Speaker 2: American Music Awards and Lionel Richie was hosting, and Lionel
- 1:27Speaker 2: Richie won Light five by there were six American Music
- 1:32Speaker 2: Awards that night, and then he had to cobble all
- 1:35Speaker 2: of these musicians he'd been working on it for a
- 1:37Speaker 2: few weeks to get them all in LA for one
- 1:40Speaker 2: night overnight after the awards show. They knew they were
- 1:44Speaker 2: all going to be in LA or at least a
- 1:45Speaker 2: lot of them, and they got them all into the
- 1:48Speaker 2: studio and it was amazing all this footage about what
- 1:51Speaker 2: they went through to crank that out in one night
- 1:54Speaker 2: about eight hours. All of those prints didn't show up.
- 1:58Speaker 2: He didn't want to be around all those people afterwards.
- 2:00Speaker 2: Some said it is because he was mad because he
- 2:01Speaker 2: lost out to Lionel Richie on a few things. But anyway,
- 2:04Speaker 2: so there was It was that we are the World thing.
- 2:07Speaker 2: That was nineteen eighty five. That was before Greg Temper
- 2:10Speaker 2: was even born. I think we'll ask him now, the
- 2:12Speaker 2: editor in chief of Dave Campbell's Texas Football Magazine were
- 2:15Speaker 2: even alive in nineteen eighty five.
- 2:17Speaker 1: I was not no, that's what I thought. I duped it.
- 2:23Speaker 3: I gotta be honest, So I do I do?
- 2:26Speaker 1: You know?
- 2:27Speaker 3: This is my favorite radio show, my favorite radiohead. I
- 2:29Speaker 3: do a couple of them, especially like in the in
- 2:32Speaker 3: the especially when we're promoting the magazine, sure and stuff
- 2:35Speaker 3: like that.
- 2:35Speaker 1: Yeah, that is the first time I've ever been introduced.
- 2:39Speaker 3: To with we are the world has been my open
- 2:42Speaker 3: but I yeah, I sure appreciate it.
- 2:44Speaker 2: Well when it comes to football in this state, Dave
- 2:48Speaker 2: Campbell's Texas Football.
- 2:49Speaker 1: Magazine is the world I might have.
- 2:52Speaker 2: I might add off of that, off the magazine and
- 2:56Speaker 2: and what is the most commonly asked question you get
- 3:00Speaker 2: annually about the magazine?
- 3:02Speaker 1: And is there in does that include this year or
- 3:06Speaker 1: are there.
- 3:06Speaker 2: Some things about this year's magazine that you've been asked
- 3:09Speaker 2: that might be unique?
- 3:11Speaker 3: Yeah, So the question that I get asked the most
- 3:15Speaker 3: every year is how in the heck do you guys
- 3:18Speaker 3: do this? Like, how in the heck do you gather
- 3:20Speaker 3: all of the information that goes into it with fifteen
- 3:23Speaker 3: hundred high schools and you know, you know, fifty college
- 3:28Speaker 3: football programs and stuff like that. That's the one, and
- 3:30Speaker 3: that's when we go through and we talk a little
- 3:32Speaker 3: bit about the just the process of the questionnaire and
- 3:36Speaker 3: getting the in our relationship with coaches and stuff like that.
- 3:39Speaker 3: The one that I've gotten the most this year was
- 3:41Speaker 3: about our cover and specifically about who isn't on our
- 3:44Speaker 3: cover with Brendan Sorosby as opposed to it to Ben
- 3:48Speaker 3: Roberts and did where are we going to do Brendan Sorosby? Yes,
- 3:53Speaker 3: you know, we pivoted and stuff like that. So that's
- 3:55Speaker 3: been the thing that I have done the most talking
- 3:57Speaker 3: about in the lead up to football season has been So.
- 4:01Speaker 1: You did a photo shoot with Brinton's horse behind. I
- 4:03Speaker 1: was like, yeah, yeah, that's in the.
- 4:05Speaker 2: Topic of the compensation, and we unearthed that tidbit a
- 4:08Speaker 2: couple of weeks ago talking about the backup play. It
- 4:10Speaker 2: always important to have a backup plan, no question about. Okay,
- 4:14Speaker 2: along the lines of what you just talked about about
- 4:18Speaker 2: compiling the information, and for folks who want to copy
- 4:21Speaker 2: the magazine, like I said, we gave away a copy
- 4:23Speaker 2: of Last Hour, We're going to give away a copy
- 4:24Speaker 2: of this Hour. We're gonna give away a copy of
- 4:26Speaker 2: Next Hour. The great folks at DCTF give us some
- 4:29Speaker 2: promotional copies to give away every year. We did it
- 4:31Speaker 2: all last week, We're doing it all this week, We're
- 4:34Speaker 2: doing it all next week. One copy per hour on
- 4:37Speaker 2: the show, three per day, fifteen per week. We're doing
- 4:40Speaker 2: it all the way up through the end of next week.
- 4:44Speaker 2: One of the things that goes into the compilation, like
- 4:48Speaker 2: you said, the questionnaires and the information that you get.
- 4:53Speaker 2: How different, and I would imagine it's going to be
- 4:56Speaker 2: vastly different. How different is the questionnaire with the high
- 5:01Speaker 2: school coaches compared to I Like, for example, I just
- 5:05Speaker 2: happened to just open the magazine randomly. You open the
- 5:08Speaker 2: page one thirty six and it's on the Southland Conference
- 5:11Speaker 2: and the predictions where Steven F. Austin is predicted to
- 5:14Speaker 2: win the league and so on and so forth. How
- 5:16Speaker 2: different is the information gathering and the questionnaires and stuff
- 5:20Speaker 2: like that the collegiate level, where they have media relations
- 5:22Speaker 2: departments as opposed to high schools, most of which have
- 5:26Speaker 2: nothing of the kind.
- 5:28Speaker 3: Yeah, so the lion's share, the large majority of stuff
- 5:32Speaker 3: that we get from from from high school ranks comes
- 5:35Speaker 3: straight from the horse's mouth, right, I mean where we're
- 5:38Speaker 3: reaching out. And yes, in the high school ranks, you've
- 5:40Speaker 3: got some of the bigger programs which will say, hey, you,
- 5:45Speaker 3: you know, running backs coach, You're going to be the
- 5:47Speaker 3: one who fills out the questionnaire. It's going to be
- 5:49Speaker 3: on you, but we'll tell you what to fill out
- 5:50Speaker 3: to do the actual fill information. But for the most part,
- 5:53Speaker 3: you're getting it direct from the head coach. You're getting
- 5:57Speaker 3: it direct from the source because we can just call
- 6:00Speaker 3: them up. The college side requires more of going through
- 6:04Speaker 3: the jumping through hoops, you know, especially with bigger programs
- 6:08Speaker 3: Texas and Texas A and M and Tech, and in
- 6:10Speaker 3: some of those programs, you have to do a little
- 6:12Speaker 3: bit more due diligence on the back end to make
- 6:15Speaker 3: sure that you get the.
- 6:16Speaker 1: Access that you need.
- 6:18Speaker 3: That's not the same as like, you know, if we
- 6:20Speaker 3: go to Tarleton or we go to Harden Simmons or
- 6:23Speaker 3: something like that, we can more or less pick up
- 6:25Speaker 3: the phone and then call those guys and get pretty
- 6:27Speaker 3: much anything we need.
- 6:28Speaker 1: So there is a difference.
- 6:31Speaker 3: One thing that I am growing more and more appreciative
- 6:35Speaker 3: of is that there are definitely some high school football
- 6:38Speaker 3: programs across the state that are run like college programs,
- 6:41Speaker 3: and they have got information departments and they've got people
- 6:44Speaker 3: that you go through to get in touch with people.
- 6:47Speaker 1: Those are still.
- 6:48Speaker 3: Fewer as opposed to that's not happened in that meridian,
- 6:51Speaker 3: right and that's happening in maybe some of the Big
- 6:54Speaker 3: six days is where you get that, but certainly there
- 6:57Speaker 3: has been more of a structure change in some of
- 7:01Speaker 3: the ways these high school football programs operate. And you know,
- 7:03Speaker 3: we're happy to We're just happy to get information. We
- 7:05Speaker 3: just want to have the best information. Whatever hoops we
- 7:07Speaker 3: got to jump through.
- 7:08Speaker 1: We're willing to do.
- 7:09Speaker 2: And you and I both know this from having work
- 7:12Speaker 2: state championship games, and our producers for these telecasts do
- 7:15Speaker 2: a fabulous job of trying to coordinate conference calls or
- 7:18Speaker 2: video calls with these coaches to do it. And some
- 7:23Speaker 2: it's easier to line up than others with regard to that.
- 7:26Speaker 2: But there are some programs you point out Katie an
- 7:31Speaker 2: information factory and Fountain when John k was coaching, and
- 7:34Speaker 2: even beyond that with Willie Gaston. All of the things
- 7:38Speaker 2: we've gotten when Katie has been in state championship this
- 7:40Speaker 2: goes chap this goes all the way back, trust me
- 7:42Speaker 2: on this one. The first to really do it on
- 7:45Speaker 2: a wholesale level a big large was DW.
- 7:48Speaker 1: Rut Legit Coverence Judson.
- 7:50Speaker 2: He was the first to do and I was like, wow, here,
- 7:52Speaker 2: I'm getting ready to call the nineteen ninety five state
- 7:55Speaker 2: championship game between Judson and Odessa Permian and I got
- 7:59Speaker 2: this whole file us. Meanwhile, Permian, you know, I'm trying
- 8:02Speaker 2: to just pull the information out therefore before I get it.
- 8:06Speaker 2: But we always appreciate because it but because it helps.
- 8:09Speaker 2: And and you're probably discovering the more you work with
- 8:13Speaker 2: the high schools. I know you're you're going to be
- 8:15Speaker 2: calling games for d C t F on a weekly
- 8:17Speaker 2: telecast this year, that that the head coaches more and
- 8:22Speaker 2: more are getting people designated to handle that information dispensation,
- 8:27Speaker 2: aren't they.
- 8:29Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 8:29Speaker 3: I think one of the things that's just worth mentioning
- 8:32Speaker 3: is that, And and probably the core of all this
- 8:35Speaker 3: is that there's just more interest in high school football
- 8:37Speaker 3: from a variety of different outlets now it used to be,
- 8:41Speaker 3: you know, back in in you know DW you mentioned DW.
- 8:43Speaker 3: Rev Lage as being well kind of on the on
- 8:45Speaker 3: the bleeding edge of that. Certainly that is true, and
- 8:48Speaker 3: part of it is because they were really good and
- 8:51Speaker 3: and and certainly at that point everybody in the state
- 8:54Speaker 3: was trying to get information from them, So it made
- 8:56Speaker 3: it more beneficial to the most number of people to
- 8:59Speaker 3: kind of institutionalize all of that that information gathering.
- 9:03Speaker 1: Now there is.
- 9:05Speaker 3: Similarly, I think that there is just more interest and
- 9:08Speaker 3: more media outlets try you know, they are covering high
- 9:11Speaker 3: school football, and that the one of you information and
- 9:13Speaker 3: that's great, Like that's the rising tide that raises all
- 9:15Speaker 3: the boats. You know, you and I have been, uh,
- 9:18Speaker 3: we would be covering it if we were the only
- 9:20Speaker 3: two people who were covering it. But but but certainly
- 9:22Speaker 3: there is a lot more people who are interested in
- 9:24Speaker 3: Texas high school football because it's showing up on their doorstep.
- 9:27Speaker 3: Because there's more media interests. That also has more requirements
- 9:31Speaker 3: for coaches to get more information to more people. And
- 9:34Speaker 3: and so yeah, I don't I don't begruts these coaches
- 9:36Speaker 3: for making it easier on themselves and institutionalizing it and
- 9:40Speaker 3: kind of streamlining the information process simply because I understand
- 9:44Speaker 3: that they're getting pulled in a lot of different directions
- 9:46Speaker 3: that is, by the way, outside of the actual job
- 9:48Speaker 3: that they have to do. So that's one of the
- 9:50Speaker 3: things that I'm I'm I'm sympathetic to them and certainly
- 9:53Speaker 3: understanding that hey, coach, you need nextra day, you need
- 9:56Speaker 3: you know, you you've got I got to jump through
- 9:57Speaker 3: a couple extra hoops to make your job your life.
- 9:59Speaker 1: Liberty is or that's something I'm willing to do.
- 10:01Speaker 2: Yeah, And let me also give a tip of the cap,
- 10:04Speaker 2: not only historically to the people that I that I
- 10:07Speaker 2: worked with, whether it's Fox Sports Southwest or Valley's and
- 10:13Speaker 2: the different names that went went through a fan duel
- 10:15Speaker 2: and then most recently Victory plus uh that sort of
- 10:18Speaker 2: stuff with what they've done, but even what you guys
- 10:21Speaker 2: have done with the whole text and live uh you know, uh,
- 10:26Speaker 2: the the grand exposition of it all across the state.
- 10:29Speaker 2: I mean, I'm a producer. Jay Carman here has worked
- 10:32Speaker 2: uh called games for Taxing Live. Cameron Park of our
- 10:35Speaker 2: staff is called games uh for tex Now. You and
- 10:38Speaker 2: I did a game uh but for Taxing Live back
- 10:40Speaker 2: a few years ago, uh as well. And and so
- 10:44Speaker 2: those schools are getting more and more used to having
- 10:48Speaker 2: to work that information angle because there's there's more exposure.
- 10:52Speaker 2: When the U I L after the pandemic said you
- 10:54Speaker 2: can go ahead and keep live streaming telecast. That just
- 10:58Speaker 2: accelerated this uh say, disbursement of information.
- 11:01Speaker 1: Everybody exactly right.
- 11:04Speaker 3: And now I think that because of that there is
- 11:08Speaker 3: now coaches are getting better at it. Coaches are getting
- 11:12Speaker 3: understanding of like if Jake were calling the game this weekend,
- 11:16Speaker 3: they would.
- 11:17Speaker 1: Know more or less what Jake needs.
- 11:19Speaker 3: Jake is gonna need a depth chart, he's going to
- 11:21Speaker 3: need a roster and then ideally he'd need maybe five
- 11:24Speaker 3: ten minutes of your time to ask a.
- 11:25Speaker 1: Couple of questions, you know what I mean. And so
- 11:27Speaker 1: they they understand it.
- 11:29Speaker 3: And I think what you're seeing now is that with
- 11:32Speaker 3: I think the me My guess is this. I want
- 11:36Speaker 3: to be very clear, I don't know this for a fact.
- 11:38Speaker 3: I'm just speculating here. My guess is that the median
- 11:42Speaker 3: age of head football coaches across the state of Texas
- 11:45Speaker 3: has come down recently, like in the past like ten
- 11:47Speaker 3: years or so.
- 11:47Speaker 1: I think it's kind of come down.
- 11:49Speaker 3: So there is this new generation of coaches that I
- 11:51Speaker 3: think we're are. This is more normal for them that
- 11:55Speaker 3: they're going to need to be able to give the
- 11:56Speaker 3: information to somebody who's going to be broadcasting in the game,
- 12:00Speaker 3: uh as opposed to you know, back in you know,
- 12:03Speaker 3: nineteen ninety when maybe if you made to the state
- 12:05Speaker 3: city final or May State championship game, then they're gonna
- 12:07Speaker 3: ask you for a ton of information. Now, it's it's
- 12:10Speaker 3: it can be their Week four game. You know that
- 12:12Speaker 3: they're gonna have that information out there. So I think
- 12:14Speaker 3: coaches are getting better at understanding that.
- 12:16Speaker 1: And and and.
- 12:16Speaker 3: They've a lot of these guys just have a package
- 12:18Speaker 3: and be like, hey, go here's here's everything you need.
- 12:20Speaker 3: If if there's someone missing, give me a call it.
- 12:22Speaker 3: But other than that, like these these coaches have have
- 12:24Speaker 3: in a lot of ways and met us.
- 12:26Speaker 1: Part of the way as well.
- 12:27Speaker 2: True true enough, you know, like you said, some of
- 12:29Speaker 2: the basic stuff, roster too deep, updated stats, and that's
- 12:33Speaker 2: where Max Preps has helped out because they say all
- 12:35Speaker 2: our stuff'sloaded on max Preps. Go to max preps dot com.
- 12:38Speaker 2: You can find that, so there's a clearinghouse. It helps.
- 12:40Speaker 2: And then I used to always kind of butter them
- 12:42Speaker 2: up a little bit by saying that I'd like your
- 12:44Speaker 2: bio too. It's funny, you know, So we talk about
- 12:47Speaker 2: that on the broadcast. Jake gets all of this stuff
- 12:50Speaker 2: as the voice of the bass Drop Bears.
- 12:51Speaker 1: He does he does the same thing as well.
- 12:53Speaker 2: All right, let's uh, let me get your thoughts as
- 12:57Speaker 2: we move to Class four A. Uh and and you
- 13:00Speaker 2: did the preview of four a Yeah, it's a broken record.
- 13:05Speaker 2: It's a broken record when we talk about Carthage every
- 13:07Speaker 2: year in for a D two, it has become a
- 13:09Speaker 2: broken record. But in this case, uh, not only were
- 13:14Speaker 2: we talking about Carthage and for a D two, but
- 13:16Speaker 2: steven villein for a D one, got a pair of
- 13:19Speaker 2: returning undefeated state champions, and judging from what you have
- 13:25Speaker 2: laid out here in grand detail, there's probably not much
- 13:28Speaker 2: reason to think that those two won't be.
- 13:31Speaker 1: At or near the top of the heap.
- 13:32Speaker 3: Again, yeah, I think they deserve to start there. Sometimes
- 13:36Speaker 3: you can kind of think yourself into a more problem
- 13:42Speaker 3: in the problems, whereas like, hey, you've got two undefeated
- 13:46Speaker 3: defending state champs, each of them bring back a fair amount,
- 13:50Speaker 3: and each of them have plenty of pedigree.
- 13:52Speaker 1: Don't overthink and just stick them at number one, you know,
- 13:54Speaker 1: in four a Division two.
- 13:55Speaker 3: Kind of the animating question for probably the last decade
- 13:59Speaker 3: has been is it a car the year or is
- 14:00Speaker 3: it not a Carthag year? Right? And more often than not,
- 14:03Speaker 3: it's been a Carthage year. Here is a fun fact that,
- 14:07Speaker 3: for you, Carthage over the last nine seasons is one
- 14:10Speaker 3: hundred and thirty one and four one. They have won
- 14:14Speaker 3: one hundred and thirty one of their last one hundred
- 14:17Speaker 3: and thirty five ballgames. And look, there is reason there
- 14:21Speaker 3: are questions about Carthage.
- 14:23Speaker 1: I want to be clear, this is nuts.
- 14:24Speaker 3: I think last year they looked like a runaway freight
- 14:27Speaker 3: train with a lot of what they brought back the
- 14:29Speaker 3: it was. It was pretty It would have been pretty
- 14:31Speaker 3: shocking if they had lost this year. It's not the case.
- 14:33Speaker 3: They were really hit hard by graduation. kJ Edwards has gone,
- 14:37Speaker 3: Cleeve Beck has gone, Carson Crawford has gone, Junior Henderson,
- 14:41Speaker 3: their coordinated They have a new quarterback. With that said,
- 14:45Speaker 3: a lot of things we really like. Scott'sarada said he
- 14:47Speaker 3: thinks it's the best wide receiver corps they've ever had
- 14:49Speaker 3: a carthage, which is scary. A lot of it to
- 14:51Speaker 3: fall on quarterback Jacob Dixon the new guy. And we
- 14:54Speaker 3: know that that defense is going to be very good.
- 14:56Speaker 3: Outside of them, you look at teams like Pleasant Grove
- 14:59Speaker 3: going going through a coaching change with Josh Gibson leaving.
- 15:02Speaker 3: They promote from within with Jonathan Darby. Their defensive line
- 15:05Speaker 3: is going to be great. West George Stark is going
- 15:07Speaker 3: to be in that mix as well. Of course, the
- 15:09Speaker 3: team that played for a state championship a year ago
- 15:11Speaker 3: bringing back their running back Kelby Jefferson for coach Hiawatha
- 15:14Speaker 3: Hippins Ball Club.
- 15:15Speaker 1: And then Wakel Levega.
- 15:16Speaker 3: Wakel Levega, I think is going to be really really
- 15:18Speaker 3: good in all of the wake Levega ways. They bring
- 15:21Speaker 3: back a three year starter in Courtney Parr quarterback, and
- 15:23Speaker 3: their defense is going to strike you.
- 15:25Speaker 1: There're gonna be a lot of fun at the four
- 15:27Speaker 1: A Division one level. The same thing you know for Stephenville.
- 15:30Speaker 3: One of the interesting things I think if you go
- 15:31Speaker 3: back and listen to like all the preview stuff heading
- 15:35Speaker 3: into the twenty twenty five season, one of the questions
- 15:37Speaker 3: about Steven Bill's at All Boy, Yeah they got to
- 15:39Speaker 3: find a quarterback, got a lot to like, they got
- 15:41Speaker 3: to find a quarterback. Well, all they have is trot Jordan,
- 15:43Speaker 3: who was I think one of the breakout stars of
- 15:46Speaker 3: Texas high school football last year. He's back in the
- 15:49Speaker 3: mix along with Zyler and Clendon their star running back.
- 15:52Speaker 3: And I do think what's interesting their defensive line was
- 15:57Speaker 3: such an outstanding playmaker for such an outstanding you know
- 16:01Speaker 3: unit for them last year with Colton Darth Vader, their
- 16:04Speaker 3: big defensive tackle leading the way, and their defensive language
- 16:07Speaker 3: was just absolutely suffocated Kilgore in that state championship game.
- 16:11Speaker 3: There's some holes to fill there, but their offense is
- 16:14Speaker 3: gonna humt and I trust Turling Jody to put it together.
- 16:17Speaker 3: The team that I'm really interested in in FOY Division
- 16:20Speaker 3: one is Lyndale out in East Texas, a ton coming back,
- 16:23Speaker 3: a team that made a state championship game back in
- 16:26Speaker 3: twenty twenty I believe it was, and so they've got
- 16:30Speaker 3: that that that history of GM there. Their quarterback David Lindig,
- 16:33Speaker 3: has been a real breakout start for them. That's a
- 16:34Speaker 3: team to keep an eye on, But for now it
- 16:37Speaker 3: looks like those boys from the Big Country and Stephen
- 16:39Speaker 3: Bill are probably.
- 16:40Speaker 1: The early favorites. See what you think about this?
- 16:42Speaker 2: If I like every year to have what I call
- 16:45Speaker 2: a category of the breakthrough teams, teams that have never
- 16:48Speaker 2: been in the state or it's been decades or a
- 16:50Speaker 2: long long time, but they've been in the neighborhood over
- 16:54Speaker 2: the past several years. And if this is going to
- 16:58Speaker 2: be the breakout year, it would be four and fill
- 17:00Speaker 2: in the blank and uh for for.
- 17:02Speaker 1: A Division two.
- 17:04Speaker 2: Uh, maybe it's a Lubbic Liberty, which is a relatively
- 17:07Speaker 2: new program. Most of the other ones have have already
- 17:10Speaker 2: been there at one point. You could probably to Robinson
- 17:13Speaker 2: into that and then in four A D one, uh
- 17:15Speaker 2: the two the thing and you've got him ranked third.
- 17:17Speaker 2: Springtown was one that hadn't mine and and Davenport from
- 17:20Speaker 2: just off the north side of San Antonio, a couple
- 17:23Speaker 2: out of.
- 17:23Speaker 1: Four A D one.
- 17:25Speaker 3: I think those are those are really really good pulls there.
- 17:28Speaker 3: You know, this is the Lubic Liberty for those who
- 17:30Speaker 3: don't know in in Cooper I, SD, outside of Lubbock,
- 17:34Speaker 3: a fast growing area. Actually one of the things we
- 17:37Speaker 3: talked about for for Lubbic Liberty, this is a I'm
- 17:42Speaker 3: actually really surprised they're still in for a D two.
- 17:44Speaker 1: I think they're right under the cutoff. Uh.
- 17:46Speaker 3: They bring that forty five lettermen for for a Division
- 17:49Speaker 3: two team, which is a Tommy.
- 17:50Speaker 1: Those are is like six a time numbers that you
- 17:53Speaker 1: bring back.
- 17:54Speaker 2: Uh.
- 17:54Speaker 3: They are a program that I think kind of announced
- 17:57Speaker 3: that they're uh there intent last year with a ten
- 18:00Speaker 3: win season.
- 18:01Speaker 1: They bring back fifteen starters.
- 18:02Speaker 3: I think that you know they are going to be
- 18:05Speaker 3: a fast, explosive team that will be a ton of fun.
- 18:10Speaker 3: I would throw in you know you mentioned Robinson. Bryce
- 18:12Speaker 3: McCurdy is the name to know. Their quarterback has been
- 18:15Speaker 3: absolutely outstanding in a breakout year.
- 18:17Speaker 1: I believe he's committed somewhere.
- 18:20Speaker 3: Bryce Curtis is a legit prospect out there as well.
- 18:23Speaker 1: Springtown and fourtieas Vision one. The Port to Pines.
- 18:26Speaker 3: You know, Pojo has been kind of knocking on the
- 18:28Speaker 3: door for a couple of years, and there's reason to
- 18:30Speaker 3: believe that this is going to be the year that
- 18:32Speaker 3: they break through. If they can find some young skill
- 18:34Speaker 3: guys who can step up in a big way, I
- 18:35Speaker 3: think the nuts and bolts for them are there. And
- 18:37Speaker 3: then you're right, you know Davenport. The funny thing about
- 18:40Speaker 3: Davenport is that they have been one of those you know,
- 18:44Speaker 3: we talked about it, those quick rising programs, those programs
- 18:48Speaker 3: that they don't take long to get their feet underneath them.
- 18:50Speaker 3: I mean, the last four seasons they have won a
- 18:53Speaker 3: grand total of forty four games. They've been really, really good,
- 18:57Speaker 3: including a thirteen and one run to a regional final
- 19:00Speaker 3: a year ago when they were when they came came
- 19:02Speaker 3: up short to eventual tental to Lavernium in the regional final.
- 19:06Speaker 1: I think Davenport your spot on.
- 19:08Speaker 3: I think that's a team that now in a fifth
- 19:11Speaker 3: varsity season, is going to be really really dangerous there
- 19:14Speaker 3: in region for in kind of new look Region four
- 19:17Speaker 3: where it's going to be them Lavernia and nade Austin
- 19:20Speaker 3: LBJ in that next there and the Region four.
- 19:23Speaker 2: Did you say that Carentage record of the last nine
- 19:28Speaker 2: years is one thirty one and four.
- 19:29Speaker 1: Is that correct? That's correct? Okay, correct? All right.
- 19:33Speaker 2: I just because my mind doesn't work fast enough, I
- 19:36Speaker 2: pulled out the calculator for folks. When it's one hundred
- 19:38Speaker 2: and thirty five games divided by nine, that's an average
- 19:42Speaker 2: of exactly fifteen games per year. So they're playing fifteen
- 19:48Speaker 2: games per year in some seasons, that's enough to be
- 19:51Speaker 2: playing for the state championship if you wound up with
- 19:53Speaker 2: a nine game regular season or whatever. But fifteen games,
- 19:58Speaker 2: you're in the final four least every year.
- 20:00Speaker 1: And that's Carttage. Yeah. I mean, that's the thing and
- 20:04Speaker 1: the thing.
- 20:05Speaker 3: About Carthage, and and I'm sure we'll talk about it
- 20:08Speaker 3: whenever we get to the playoffs with them. If you're
- 20:11Speaker 3: gonna get them, you gotta get them early. If you're
- 20:13Speaker 3: gonna beat them, you gotta beat them, generally.
- 20:15Speaker 1: Speaking, Thanksgiving weekend.
- 20:18Speaker 3: If they make it to December, it's it's probably too late.
- 20:22Speaker 3: I think they they lost to I think they lost
- 20:25Speaker 3: to Gilmer in a regional final. But Pleasant Grove has
- 20:28Speaker 3: been the team that's been on the business end of
- 20:29Speaker 3: them for a number of years. I can only recall
- 20:32Speaker 3: one time when they lost in December, because remember Scott's
- 20:36Speaker 3: ratt very famously eleven.
- 20:37Speaker 1: And oh in state championship games.
- 20:39Speaker 3: He is also the only, you know, the only coach
- 20:42Speaker 3: to ever coach in eleven state championship games, and.
- 20:44Speaker 1: He's eleven and oh in them.
- 20:46Speaker 3: The only time I recall, I believe Liberty Hill beat
- 20:50Speaker 3: them in a semi final, in a super windy semi final.
- 20:56Speaker 3: Oh now, I can't pull that the number of the year.
- 21:00Speaker 3: I'm sure Liberty Hill fans remember it fondly. I remember
- 21:02Speaker 3: it being a high scoring shootout that you know, for
- 21:06Speaker 3: some reason, carth that just could not find an answered
- 21:07Speaker 3: and slot team for some reason.
- 21:10Speaker 1: You know, not that anybody needs a reason.
- 21:12Speaker 3: That is, but yeah, that that I recall being the
- 21:15Speaker 3: last time I remember them losing in December.
- 21:17Speaker 1: They've come close.
- 21:18Speaker 3: Glen Rose gave him a run in a semi final
- 21:20Speaker 3: a couple of years ago that I recall being pretty
- 21:23Speaker 3: locked in on kind of down the stretch, but once,
- 21:26Speaker 3: especially once they make it to Arlington, it is over.
- 21:29Speaker 3: And most of those state championship games are not close either.
- 21:32Speaker 2: No, you mentioned Gilmour. They beat him one year. I
- 21:34Speaker 2: remember because I was calling the game. It was seventy
- 21:36Speaker 2: to fourteen and Gilmour was up fourteen nothing.
- 21:38Speaker 1: Remember twenty twenty, I think it was I think it
- 21:45Speaker 1: was that that That was twenty.
- 21:46Speaker 3: Twenty where Gilmour goes up, they score, they get the ball,
- 21:50Speaker 3: get the kickoff, they score, they can on site kick,
- 21:53Speaker 3: they score again and then carved into rentles off seventy
- 21:57Speaker 3: unanswered and in Yeah, I remember, like they woke up.
- 22:02Speaker 1: It was that was that was quite a quite a
- 22:05Speaker 1: quite quite a team. Jake. Did you find the game
- 22:08Speaker 1: that TEP was referring to?
- 22:09Speaker 3: Yeah, December of twenty eighteen, Liberty Hill forty four, Carthage
- 22:14Speaker 3: forty one in a semi final game at FCU Stadium. Yeah, yeah,
- 22:19Speaker 3: and it was, if I remember correctly, it was a
- 22:21Speaker 3: howling Wind. So if you're and so if you are
- 22:25Speaker 3: Liberty Hill, you're thinking jackpot.
- 22:28Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, don't have to worry about throwing the pass,
- 22:31Speaker 2: just line up and go all right. He's Greg Temper,
