- speaker-0: Hey, welcome back to the Mark Workman Show. And really it's the Mark W Kathy Workman show. So it's really the truth of it. But this is our well within series where we try to encourage you to be well within and wholeness sinking, that whole thing you are. today's show is gonna be a great show. It's I've thought about it quite a bit, even just the last few days, and just in terms of the philosophy. and the idea of hunger and how we just literally travel through this life in America especially it's really an American thing from a little less full to a little less full we never really get to that hunger point so our body never really messages us learn how to read the messages of our body. you know Kathy will talk quite a bit about the idea of how We've kind of turned our health journeys into a set of rules, check boxes that we click off. I did this, I counted my calories, I weighed on a scale, I did my exercise, and all those things. And what if it was just as simple as understanding that we earn our food, we earn our energy, and we eat when we're hungry? The idea of that we don't really eat till we're hungry is really foreign to us. It's actually revolutionary. And it's a simple concept, but really largely untalked about. So in today's show, we're going to discuss. dive into this subject. I think it's gonna bring up a lot of questions in your own mind if you listen to the end. And I I think you're just gonna love the show. So anyway, welcome back Kathy. Here we go and let's just talk about hunger and really what's going on here. What are some of your first thoughts? speaker-1: Well, I I think this was all sparked where again I've been reading books and older books from the nineteen hundreds and it's really interesting to hear their perspective because we get lost in this food noise of counting calories, of moving more, of all of these different things. And we kind of forget that God already put a little monitor in us on how to how our bodies work. And so coming back to some of the basics of Don't eat until you've earned your earned hunger or got to hunger. And I I guess I just have to equate it to the car. If I filled my car every day, but I I never leave the garage, it's causing problems. It and it makes things flammable. It makes things about to explode. And that same parallel happens in our own bodies because we're not understanding the gauges and not understanding how the how the systems of the car work. Like you gotta drive it to use the gas to put more in it. speaker-0: Right. The body has messaging systems, right? I read years ago a book I've shared with you a couple of times is the idea that even the cells have memory, they even have information and and they hold a a bank of information in themselves, the in the individual cells, not and that's our whole body. Right. So our body can send us messages and and when we're trained in you mentioned habits or automaticity or in different shows and the idea that we're okay, I'm gonna have breakfast at seven Lunch at noon, dinner at five, I do this, and and we're doing things on external schedules or external, and then those form habits when if we're just listening to the body, we might not eat lunch because I'm not hungry. I might not eat dinner. I'm just gonna have an apple and call it a day. We're not making those choices and listening to those messages, right? We're just we're just firing off on a schedule that has been formed in us by habit. speaker-1: Yeah. And they call it the I really like the new word, the hypnotic rhythms and recognizing that those rhythms, if we're not evaluating them and thinking about them, is it harming me or is it helping me? Because we can get automaticity and these hypnotic rhythms can work for us or against us. We just have to take the time to evaluate them and see what they're doing for us. speaker-0: Right. and so and I I think too one of the things I want to talk about, we're gonna I'm bringing up here and you can speak to it is the idea that the focus of our mindset, motivation, mental wellness and positive thinking will really be a big part of our ability to lose weight and all and there's total truth in that, but it really focuses down focuses down to some simple behaviors that the body's saying, I need I'm say I run For a couple miles and now I'm thirsty. The body's telling me I need to drink fluids, right? Right. And I think there's messages there that are ignored in our bodies in terms of food as well. Not just running, sweating, and I'm now I'm thirsty. It's I've not done anything all day. I've kind of sat on my butt in my office and I'm probably shouldn't be hungry, right? speaker-1: Right. Yeah, our culture has changed dramatically. Obviously, our ancestors that came before us, they were doing the hunter hunting and gathering. They were, you know, working physically hard just to survive, hauling water, you know, taking care of the animals, gardening, all those things. Well, most of us are not doing that. So we're not burning that energy. However, the same thing that's happened in our culture is now we have all these processed, convenient foods. Our food environment has changed dramatically. So now Now we have all this excess of availability, which and then we're marketed to for consumption. And then the food has been changed also to add addictive things to it. And so we're not just fighting our own willpower. There's a lot of different things, but you had mentioned there are just some real basics. And so our body, we're we're kind of we need to do the eating, the drinking, the breathing, and the sleeping. And how we do those four basic physical things is going to impact our overall health. You know, we're always talking about how to lose weight, but technically we shouldn't have been in a place to gain it if we'd have been reading the the signs, you know, listening to the signs, listening to our body. And so those are the things that I guess I think are important to kind of come back to. And that's what we're gonna talk about today. speaker-0: Yeah, you know, it the and and and I and I I'm probably a little critical of this 'cause I I don't necessarily bite onto some of this positive mental thinking thing all the time. Saying mantras like, I'm okay, you're okay, whatever. The mantra thing, the positive mental attitude, the positive thinking, again, it's totally true. One hundred percent. You need to keep a positive mental attitude about life and 'cause it just keeps coming at you, it's challenging. But really the body when it gets down to there's just basic functions in terms of muscles and movements and and the cells and how they transfer this and amino acids and the brain and neurons and synapses, all the physical parts of who we are, a lot of times they're sending messages and I think in some ways we've been trained to just have a positive mental attitude and n ignore the the messages sometimes we're getting from our own bodies. Absolutely speaker-1: Yeah. I think I like this. they call it the internal intelligence that our body is intelligent. It is fearfully and wonderfully made. And I would say the more I learn, the more I can appreciate how amazing our bodies are. and the hunger is your body's signal that it needs to repair the tissues, it's building new cells, it's producing energy, and it's min maintaining all our body functions. But if we're just Covering up all those messaging and not learning, I think it puts us in this place of confusion and I don't know what to do. Give me a tell me what to do. And so all these programs or protocols have come from tell me what to do. I'll do it. Well, obviously our bodies are all different, our lifestyles are different. And so if we don't evaluate that, then we're just doing a checklist and not really doing what's best for our bodies, our situation, our activity level. speaker-0: Yeah, I I'm not hidden the fact that I believe that even right down to anything we do in life, it should kind of become part of our lifestyle as an automatic response without even thinking, like that I could recognize that I'm not hungry, so I'm not going to eat a meal as a habit, as a way of life, as a lifestyle, and I'm not having to make a choice. It's just I go through a meal because I'm not hungry. But the what what ch what challenges me about this subject is that I can relate it to it spiritually, is the the Bible says the hunger and thirst. After the Lord, right? So it's just spiritually as Christians, if we never understand actually what hunger is, because we never get there as Americans, we're always full. We go from a little less full to a little less full. I'm full at breakfast, and by 11 o'clock I'm a little less full, so I eat again and I'm full again. I never get to the hunger. So I think this subject can transfer to a lot of subjects. I might not even understand how to hunger and thirst after the Lord because I don't even know what hunger is. Yeah. speaker-1: Well, and I think, you know, if you do that all of that body, mind and spirit, I like too. It says hunger is not the enemy. And as I thought about that, Hunger has been demonized and maybe because some of our ancestors came through some very scarce s situations, and so they don't ever want, you know, they grew us we grew up in a different era because we wanted that abundance. We didn't ever want to go through it. But when we have a fear of hunger, and I was just recognizing this in myself the other day, I thought, okay, I'm gonna take a walk. Well, I don't want to get hungry, so I'm gonna have a piece of cheese, you know, and it's like I had to evaluate like. Why am I so afraid of hunger? We where did that come from? And that's maybe a whole nother topic we can talk about, but really embracing speaker-0: Like the hunger games. You got groups everywhere. Feed the hungry. Food pantries, feed the hungry. And a lot of that's driven on this point is we're never gonna let people get to hunger. Right. So their body never gets the message, can give the message that you're hungry or not. Yeah. You you're speaker-1: Well, we don't want any pain either. And we so we don't want any pain. We don't want any inconvenience. And I think too, there's that piece of just needing to fill space out of out of that fear of lack. It's it's it's really a lack mentality that we're fighting instead of this abundance mentality, so we don't really have to hoard it up and eat it all the time because it'll be available to us, but somehow we Tend to I don't know. No speaker-0: No, it it's good it's a good philosophical question because this is gonna sound critical, but you know, a lot of times you can be in a situation that over the years we've given to organizations that feed people and you know, we're generous that way and think that way. And and then when we've seen the results, sometimes we're like, Man, they're huge. my gosh. speaker-1: Dealing with the plague of prosperity, really. A lot of the health issues and things that we're all physically dealing with. They say 270 million people are on medications for lifestyle issues. We ate ourselves into the health issues. The only way out, you can't medicate yourself out of a lifestyle-induced thing. But we don't recognize all the time that we didn't just catch something, it's something that we did. And so to go back and learn those listen to our the intelligence, the internal intelligence, I think, is really a a huge place of coming to freedom. the other thing is we've can we've totally appetite has hijacked hunger. So we think we're hungry because we see it and that looks so good. And, you know, you even internally start salivating and so you think you're hungry, but it's really just that appetite of pleasure and not that Need of hunger for fuel. speaker-0: Right. Appetite is a you know, the hedonistic pleasure principle. I'm gonna really serve my own you know desires, right? You know, you you wanna feel good by eating you know, I always make use you know, the strudel or donut or whatever it makes you feel good, right? But but speaker-1: Dopamine right. speaker-0: really we see hunger as an inconvenience and it's really a message. It's a message to our body from our body that hey, we I need to rebuild some tissue. your muscles are fatigued. Or right? Yeah. The body's sending is a messaging system to you about what's really going on and what you need. And we ignore that message or never get to that message. So appetite is has replaced hunger and we Again, we're operating off the wrong messages. Right to me, as I think about this, we're operating off the wrong messages from the start. speaker-1: Well I love too how it says hunger is basically telling you your body is ready to process what you give it. So if we're taking in fuel when our body isn't ready to process it, it doesn't know what to do with it. So what does it do? It stores it. we've talked about this before. It's storing it in, you know, obviously body fat, it's storing it in visceral fat, it's storing it in your your joints, it's storing it in your organs, all of those things. So recognizing that. that when we get to this place of true hunger, true hunger is your body saying, all right, let's go, bring it on. speaker-0: Right. Yeah. It's it's fascinating. I think this is maybe a crux of some of the things that you deal with in terms of as you promote health and promote well n well within. this is maybe an underlying foundational brick. That needs to be returned to are you even hungry? Right. When you're talking to people about their health or their diabetes or whatever they're dealing with, you know, and and tell me about how you eat. Well, I eat three meals a day. And I, you know, that's that checklist, right? Right. I think this is a way for you to get into anytime you want to help people and encourage them. I think we can encourage them with getting to the brick foundational piece, are you even hungry when you're eating? speaker-1: Well, when you're sitting and watching TV and they bring ads up and you see the pizza and the cheesy, I mean, it they know exactly how to market to us to even give just this false sense of, let's order a pizza, you know. and and and you'll hear me say all the time, if you can name the game, then you have a choice to whether you want to play it. And when you understand how they're marketing to us and how the there's additives, addictive additives to our food now, the playing field isn't it's not fair anymore. Where, you know, generations ago it was about, hey, we don't have all this excess bagged stuff sitting around. We've got to go get a chicken, get an egg, cut a chicken up, whatever. You know, it was it required some work to get the food too. And now it's just this overabundance. So if we're not in tune to what the game is, we're gonna be Taken advantage of and lose every time. speaker-0: Well, it's it's almost gets down to situational ethics in some ways, like you know, when you go to a movie you have popcorn. When you you know, in in business world, you have a business lunch. And you know what I mean? And we create these environments and situations to that justify why I'm gonna have food, you know, like watching a football game and having chips and queso. speaker-1: Call it what wires together, fires together. So when we do something, like and for an example, like your brain's always trying to get you to do things automatically so it doesn't have to think and power up all the time. So let's say I'm having an emotional day and I go and I'm like, I go through the drive-up, I'm like, there's that dollar menu. I'm just gonna grab one of those. Well, I get the dopamine rush and it fires that together, and your brain puts it together like, hey, anytime you're having an emotional day, that worked pretty good. Let's do that again. I use the example of my kayak. Every time I'd kayaking, I'd have it stocked with salt and vinegar chips and red licorice. Well, I remember when I was trying to change habits, I'm like, well, will my boat even float? Like, what's the point of going? And, you know, I just having to change those habits. And it feels hard at first. And now it's not something that I even think about. But We just get in those automatic habits. Every time you get in the car, you're taking a road trip. What are you going to stop and get? We all have our little things through our little Rolodex in our mind of what we want to do. or like you said, a movie. gotta get the popcorn. We've they've wired foods together with events. And so that makes it even more, more powerful and more part of our hypnotic rhythm. speaker-0: Yeah, like my dad could not go to a Cleveland Indians baseball game. Cleveland Guardians, excuse me. Cleveland Indian Guardians game when we were kids without having a hot dog. A foot long hot dog with chili on it. That's that's the I mean the park provided that. And he would I think he was going to the game to get a hot dog. speaker-1: Well, I wasn't going to the No, I I used to say, I'll go watch a bad movie just to get some popcorn. Right. And so it wasn't about the movie, it was about the popcorn. And even sometimes when, you know, we're going out to dinner with our friend, it's not even about the friend. It's like who's gonna go eat dinner with me? You know, we can we these things can be hijacked. it's just being mindful and thoughtful and what's the real point. And, you know, so if it was really about my friend, do I have to go eat with her? You know, can we just go visit? Can we go walk? Can we talk? But if it's about the food, then it doesn't matter who I take with me. speaker-0: Well there's spirit there's a spiritual principle we've mentioned on the show before is taking every thought captive, the idea of thinking about what you're thinking and what's the source of those thoughts. You know, a lot a lot of times there's things outside of us trying to define us. someone else, situations, food, that kind of thing. Something else to try and to define us. And I think that th with this subject, as we try to explore, and there's probably a lot here to explore over the in many shows over the and and I'll I'll remember this forever, like reading this. Is that w we have to think about am I actually hungry or is this appetite? And make a choice. And I think if we can do that, it just will simplify things and become a lifestyle of when someone presents you, hey, do you want this or that? Do you want a piece of pie or what? No, I'm not really that hungry. You know, you know what I mean? I'm not hungry. You know when you're hungry or not. Right. speaker-1: I liked how the guy said earned hunger. And so he goes, Nobody wakes up from sleeping all night hungry. you gotta earn it. And so if we look back really before the 70s and earlier, you didn't see a lot of obesity. We have seen it skyrocks rocket since the 70s for a number of reasons. But to go back to that point where, you know, our ancestors would get up in the morning, they'd go do their chores, then they would come back in. probably have a good hearty, what they would have called a breakfast, you know, the bacon and the eggs and all of that. But they earned it. They earned that hunger. But we, we, you know, maybe snack at night, go to bed, wake up in the morning, we eat an another high carb breakfast. And even if we're thinking we're doing it healthy, we're having oatmeal, but it's spiking that blood sugar that just keeps pushing the petal on hunger. And so understanding how your biology works, what's happening under the hood with The choices that we make are accelerating that false cravings, what we have perceived as hunger, and it's really not accurate. speaker-0: No, and and and what we've been trained to do is operate our our eating patterns based on a schedule. Seven, noon, six, snack at nine o'clock at night, right? You know, and and when you look at that, we're following a schedule and we're really the body's saying, Hey, your hunger is a message it we're gonna operate off of need, right? Right. When you need something, I'll tell you. And what are we doing? We're operating off of a weird schedule that someone else set up defining us. Yeah. And then we wonder what and we're not near as active. We watched that show years ago. Remember the Frontier show? And the one guy's full job was to cut fire could to be be prepared for winter. Sure. One of the part members of the camp had to cut firewood all day long just to have enough wood to get through the winter. Right. And he was he lost a ton of weight eating five you know they know they were eating tons of fat, 5,000 calories, still losing weight. Right. And they were really concerned about his weight and he was eating like crazy. Right. We're just not as active speaker-1: No, and I I think those are the things that we've not as as the food environment has pounded more and more opportunity, you we don't have a lack of food. It is everywhere. The office space now is got the candy bowl, the candy dish. and those are just automatic things. You pick it up and then you just keep that, like I said, that foot on the pedal. I was thinking about how when we're fasting, fasting exposes to you. How much we think about food. We're constantly if we use food when we're bored, we use food when we're happy, we use food when we're sad, we're thinking about food, we're thinking about groceries, getting them, preparing them, just tons with food. And when you take the time to actually fast, you realize how much time we have left. So it's really a time killer as well. You know, and then we sit in front of the television and we veg out. But years ago it was, you know, grandma was making doilies, grandpa was, you know, there was just all that other type of filler in there that I'm guessing they spend a whole lot less time thinking about food in terms of the way we do in this appetite. speaker-0: Again, we don't want to demonize a blessing. Like you know, I've taught on fasting many times, read a number of books, fasting for health, and then I've done spiritual disciplines of fasting and talk quite a bit about that. And and really the idea of fasting is to teach you about hunger. It's really interesting. You know, food is great, it's a blessing from God, right? Nutrition is so good from it. It's from God, He's our source, He's taking care of us. But when we absolutely reject the blessing of food. on our table for the reality of him alone fasting, that I'm gonna go feast on the very character and nature of God, get to know him, spend time with him, and come back better, right? In that fasting, by denying my body the food it needs, I'm learning about hunger. Sure. I'm being taught what hunger is. And at that point I can truly maybe understand my relationship with the Lord and understand my relationship with food. Yeah. He's teaching us two things in fasting. Right. And and people that are afraid of fasting, I would encourage you to get over that. It's a pretty powerful tool to help you move your life forward, in my opinion. speaker-1: And it's kinda cool. I use a a fasting app and the app will tell you What's happening inside your body within those hours? So, you know, the first eight hours, your body is just using up the carbs that I put in it. Then after that, it moves into this different stage where, okay, now we're burning up some some fat. We're using fat because your body is always using fuel, but it doesn't need to always be filling because it can use the fuel that you've stored. Then you go longer and you get into this autophagy, which is a cleanup system. Your body is so amazing, God put it its own. own cleanup system in it that'll take out the dead cells and all that. But most of us never go without to ever get to that point. So now we've got our bodies that are full of toxic excess stuff because your body can't do its cleanup job. And that's the beauty of understanding fasting. You're like, this is really good. And it just makes me think of the scripture that said, fast and your healing will come quickly. And Those are pieces that again, we're afraid of going too long. I'm gonna get weak. I'm gonna get lightheaded and and and you might, but it's not gonna kill you. It's actually healing you. speaker-0: Yeah, 100% a fact. And I think it's here healing you in every way. That's that wholeness piece we talk about with well within too. The the the mind, body, and spirit. But I think it helps you clear your mind, helps your spirit connect with God and his creation and what he does. And so it's pretty powerful thing. Speak to a little bit, you mentioned earned hunger. Speak about that a little bit more in terms of earning hunger, you know, the idea of Yeah, are we not you know, in terms of activity, work, what you know, how are we earning it? speaker-1: Let me just say again, use the car as an example. If I'm in this habit of every five days a week I drive a hundred miles, right? So then I'm gonna I'm gonna be able to put some fuel in my car. But if I spend a week and I don't take the car out of the garage, I can't s keep with that same habit. So being able to work, move, you know, earn it, actually use your body, using the fuel, getting things stirred up to do it. But if we're just fueling and is sticking it in. We're just in that storage and damage mode, what we call. And you're not you're not using it. You're not allowing your body to do the cleanup and the reset. And that's really what happens when we do a l even a little bit of fasting. Your body is resetting its healing itself. It's like sleep. Sleep is another sort of a natural reset. So that's where those things are so important. speaker-0: Yeah. So yeah, well earning i it it's kind of a weird you know, no one wants to feel like they gotta earn the next meal. Right. I think that's in some ways what it's saying. But your body signals and possesses the ability to signal you that you need it or don't. And we've gotta learn to hear that. But speaker-1: put gas in my car when I haven't used it, it hasn't earned it. speaker-0: No. speaker-1: And that's 100% so earn might be a wrong word, but you know, knowing what our fuel tank is, and hey, I just had a really big dinner last night. I don't need to wake up and have breakfast first thing in the morning. It's it's an automatic thing to get up and make breakfast because well I don't want to be hungry before lunch. And so learning those things and resetting our mind, I think our body sometimes trains our mind. when our mind needs to be training our body. speaker-0: Yeah, we you and I have not had breakfast literally for a couple of years, maybe a year or so, right? Wouldn't you say we stopped speaker-1: Consistently. speaker-0: Doing breakfast and we were recently on a trip w and some friends joined us and they wanted to cook breakfast early in the morning. Remember and we don't do breakfast. And they just stared at us like didn't he? Yeah. They were like shocked that what do you mean? I said, Well then you s you made a you covered pretty quick, well let's have brunch. Yeah. You know speaker-1: Yeah, we'll just bump it out a little bit. speaker-0: and then we skipped lunch. Yeah. And you and I waited for dinner. But the thing of it is I I do think it's a shock to peop people's system when they hear you don't eat breakfast? Most important meal of the day? Yeah. speaker-1: That was Mr. Kellogg. And that just sparks those hunger hormones again because it's just sparking your insulin. And when insulin is high, you're gonna have the crashes and the cravings. And those are the things that have changed. That's if you want to know what it's like to be healthy, we gotta look back at a healthy generation. What's changed? Because we can't just keep doing the same thing hoping for a different result. I think they call that insanity. And so until we look back, and that's why I've really appreciated reading authors from years ago that have this different perspective, and you're like, well, that makes perfect sense. And and it is hard in our culture where Everything is connected to food. Like you said, the football, the games, the even the the holidays, all of those things that we've created, we've really created around food and marketing for more and more consumption. And so the thought of less quiet, all of those things are really hard for all of us to accept. speaker-0: And as we've done the unicity program and the protocol and this the you know fighting cravings and with the unicity in the morning and all that kind of stuff, I've caught myself, I I think I did it last week actually, is no, you know, we don't have breakfast, but I I remember saying to myself about eleven AM one day last week, I'm ready to eat. Yeah. You know what I mean? There is and I I guess my ga my my response to that is that maybe I am being trained by fasting to understand the signal. Yes. speaker-1: Right. Yeah. Though there'll be times I would say I wake up in the morning, I'm like, you know what? I think I'm gonna have an a couple eggs this morning. I think is what we fuel with is as important as when we fuel. So if you're fueling with good quality fuel, you can go a long way. But just like your car, if I put in, I'm gonna put the garden hose in because I'm gonna go cheap and fast, I'm not going very far on that tank. and the same with the quality of food that we put in and what we've been again marketed to that the healthy food, you know, it's oatmeal and your cereals, those are not, those are spiking your blood sugar. You're not going to be satisfied. We really need to focus on the fats and the proteins and all of those things have kind of been demonized. when you understand the food companies are owned by Big Pharma, you can see that wheel of torture that we can maybe talk about. speaker-0: In just a few minutes. Yeah. I I wanna wrap it up with the idea of listening to your body. I'm y you know you know I feel like it's probably screaming at us actually. You know, yeah, it is. And we're doing that exactly. We're b got our e fingers in our ears. But there's a you know, listening to our bodies, what signals is it telling us? I don't think we're trained in that. I don't think we're even think about it. We've total disconnect. I used to teach about taking thoughts captive and one of the things I would teach the the the the classes that I was teaching is we're not trained to think about what we're thinking about. Right. We're always in reaction. mode to everything else outside of us, the exteriors, when there's an internal dialogue occurring inside our minds and in our bodies that is speaking to us and we don't know how to hear it. And then once you open your ears and start hearing it, everything else kind of falls away and you say, okay, I hear you, Lord. I hear that still small voice or whatever you want to identify with. But my point is is that thinking about what you're thinking about is not trained. And neither is this. I think this is an absolute important subject. People are not hearing the signals from their own bodies at all. speaker-1: Or I think we're taking in every voice we hear and we think it's ours. So every advertisement for the food or driving by the drive-bys, we're just taking it in. When we need to realize, no, there's an exit ramp, there's a stop sign. Nope, no thanks. Not taking that one in, not thinking about that. I'm gonna change that. I'm not, you know, and getting that as our automaticity. instead of, come on in, come on in. Yeah, yeah, we'll just, you know, crave to whatever's in front of us. But once you get some of those habits in place, again, it's hard to think about at first any sort of change, but you set one boundary and then you move it a little bit and a little bit and a little bit. And I'd have to say, when I heard this, it challenged me a little bit, 'cause the first time I heard about fasting, I was like, Well, I'm not giving up my breakfast. And then once I accomplished that, I'm like, Well, that wasn't so bad. And so I know this is possible. But I can't tell you that I've really let my body get to a place of hunger. And in this book, he rec he says, you can stay there for a couple hours. You don't have to respond right away. And really learning, and that's I'm gonna mentally work on that and find a time when I can actually really understand what hunger is. speaker-0: Yeah, I I believe that's the l learning mode we all need to be in, but I I'm pretty excited about this content because I think it transfers to every area of our life, in my opinion. The idea of the signals that we get that we're ignoring from our own mind, body and spirit. Right. All three are signaling us something and we're not listening sometimes. So it as again, we could t this subject we could do every week most likely and find a different layer of the of the onion on this. What would be one of your key takeaways from some of our and we gotta keep it brief because we've got to get to the protocol. What is some of your key takeaways that you would focus on as you know, just to remind people as what we talked about today about hunger? speaker-1: Well, I would say listen for your natural signals, you know, and just consider, do I need that? Have I earned my my keep basically earned the fuel? True hunger and appetite are not the same thing. I mean, I just remember having this Rolodex of ooh, what sounds good? And now I just stock my refrigerator with things that I know that are good. I don't think a lot. I don't spend a lot of extra e brain energy thinking about food. 'cause Good fuel is good. eating should be driven by need rather than habit. We talked about that's a tack takeaway. Awareness of fig physical hunger can improve our relationship with food. I think a lot of us have really sick, abusive relationships with food that we just keep going back to over and over. That's a whole nother session. And then speaker-0: didn't really talk about that. And there is a relationship with food. I always my first thought always goes to a frosty at Wendy's. You know, I I I would drive home from work and have a frosty. You know what I mean? And there is a relationship there. There's a connection, right? And it's negative. speaker-1: Yeah. Well, and we all are looking for the magic pill of health, but it says learning to listen to your body may be one of the simplest health practices available. It's free. And right now everybody's complaining about the cost of groceries. You can cut the cost of your groceries by a lot when you're not eating to every little appetite, not eating to overfueling and all those things. So it there's a lot of great benefits, whether Health, wealth, all of those things. So I would encourage you to just at least think about it. speaker-0: Right. Well, let's let's do this. I think it's important to do this every week, to talk about insulin resistance and its powerful effect on our lives and how it shows up in so many ways. So I'm gonna have you talk about that and we will just maybe, you know, feed off of wherever you go, but there it goes. It's up there for you. It's the problem. speaker-1: It's the problem. And honestly, it's the plague of prosperity. I always say we're drowning in the blessing and begging for more. And this is a perfect example of this. Until we were again, look back before the seventies. Most of these were not an issue at all. We didn't have the o diabetes, the cancers, the PCOS, the fatty liver, the heart disease, high blood pressure, Alzheimer's, migraines, erectile dysfunction, neuropathy, and obesity. And that's just some of them. You know, the the skin tags, the belly fat, all of those things are fairly new. And we got to look back and say why. And so The big problem is 93% of us now are having some sort of a metabolic issue. Metabolic just means how does your body process energy? Because we're overfueling all the time, constantly. And that's where I guess I'm excited about the solution is we don't have to chase the symptoms of all of these things. If you go to the doctor, they're gonna spend break you into body parts and they're gonna send you to a specialist who's gonna give you a pill to manage you the symptoms, but they're never getting to the root of it. But if we can get to the root, which we know is insulin resistance, and this simple little protocol that I'm using that has just three simple packets is and it's an actual nutraceutical. It's been studied by the Cleveland Clinic. It is in the physician's desk reference, but because it's a natural nutraceutical, it doesn't make money. But it's extremely effective. And I feel like we all need to know there's other options out there. This comes with you drink two of these simple little teas a day. It's gonna help with inflammation, energy, mood, all of those things that help you feel better and keep that inflammation down, keep the cravings down. speaker-0: It's also a natural GLP one producer. speaker-1: Natural GLP one boosters. So yep. Everybody's taken the shots. Yeah. But there's natural things that we can do all the time to boost our own. But when you're taking it synthetically, your body actually stops making it altogether. That's why you have to be on it for life and all the other side effects come along. The other great little packet that we have is fiber. Fiber has been taken out of our food, so we're never getting full and feel full. So this little fiber packet is gonna make me feel full. It's going to keep my blood sugar from spiking. And so it's an amazing simple solution. It's about $5 a day. It replaces the drinks that you're already drinking. So it really is a cost neutral thing. The other cool part is you get a 90-day trial. If at the end of 90 days you give it a good adult try and you're not having some feel-great symptoms of better energy, lower inflammation, weight loss. blood pressure coming down, your blood sugars leveling out, your your your blood panels, your A one C coming down, then get your money back. So it's really a win win. And the company is so confident in the product that it'll it'll give that guarantee. And I like to be a part of that. And I like to be a part of just letting people know there's other solutions out there. speaker-0: Well, it's a good reminder, that now that Halloween is just a week away and then Thanksgiving right after that and then Christmas and all the snacks and all the the football games and it just never ends. The next two months are gonna be brutal, right? speaker-1: is we have three holidays that we blur into three months. Yep. And so that's the caution. Don't I'm not telling you not to participate, but you need to know when you're eating those, it's just a little candy bar. It's just one little one and one more little one. You are triggering the sugar receptors, the addiction receptors, and it just makes it harder to stop. Sometimes the abstinence is the best method. If you can have one and stop, more power to you. But understanding what's going on inside and a lot of times I always say our inner me is our worst enemy. And until we can get control of our inner man, we might always be a victim to that inner me. speaker-0: Yeah, that's a great line to kind of move on and close the show. I gr I think this was a great discussion. I think it's one I would like to return to. you know, and keep talking about this idea and the philosophy of are we even hungry? You know, it's not about eating more or less. Like if I drive my car across South Dakota, I'm gonna need more fuel. If I if you like you say, if it's parked in the garage, I don't need a lot of fuel. So there's signals being sent on how much. fuel you need and we're not listening right you know and listening to those signals and rhythms and auto automaticity and you know all the different words we use here it it's pretty powerful this idea of kind of just start start being aware of your own signals it's pretty powerful yeah I think it's a great message speaker-1: Here's a line that says, We develop discipline and awareness, and then we can learn to trust the remarkable intelligence of the human body. Getting back speaker-0: Amen. I love that. I love that. speaker-1: to that, trusting the hu the internal intelligence. speaker-0: Yeah, God's speaking to us through even through our bodies, isn't he? speaker-1: It says use it as your reasonable it's it's just a reasonable and acceptable service. I can't remember how the scripture but speaker-0: Yeah. speaker-1: us maintaining and taking care of our bodies is just I mean, it's just reasonable. speaker-0: Yeah, and you know, you can have shame about that. There's seasons in my life that I didn't focus on it quite as much. And even now as I focus on I still have challenges and that are frustrating. speaker-1: You can't do better till you know better. And and it's pushing us to learn and do better. And even when we don't get the response that we think we want, we've got to be our own scientist and our own that keeps you learning more. Because if we had it all figured out, we wouldn't keep learning. speaker-0: No, that's right. That's good. So as we close today, I just thankful for you guys joining us. that we want to encourage you to be well within mind, body, and spirit. Those are slogans in some ways in modern culture in the health world, but because everyone kind of claims they want that. But we really do. We want you to think about what you're thinking about. We want you to understand the principle of hunger as we've talked about it today. We're gonna talk about it more. And you know, if you are interested in trying the unicity protocol, you won't regret it. I Wish you could see some of the calls we get with testimonies, and people's lives are absolutely transformed. They're powerful. it's one of my favorite things to listen to each week. I try to catch those calls. you know, some of it can be repetitive on the protocol side, you know, different things, but the testimonies are always fresh and new, and they are powerful, life changing things that encourage me to keep going, to be honest with you. and so it's just any anyway, it's just really encouraging. Thanks for joining us today.
