- 0:24Speaker 1: Ovation Hall. Aaron Lewis from Stained will be there on
- 0:27Speaker 1: April seventeenth, Comedian Tony Hitchcliffe on April the twenty fourth,
- 0:32Speaker 1: and we will be there ourselves with the Draft party
- 0:36Speaker 1: this year. Adam Kaplin's here on a Friday. It's football
- 0:38Speaker 1: at four. It's a happy hour Friday. There's not been
- 0:40Speaker 1: a happy week if you've been in the Jalen Hurts camp.
- 0:43Speaker 1: By the way, the Eagles had their two days mandatory
- 0:47Speaker 1: mini camps and their OTAs announced today. April twentieth will
- 0:50Speaker 1: be the first and then OTAs on May twenty six,
- 0:53Speaker 1: twenty seventh, twenty ninth, June one, June two, June fourth,
- 0:56Speaker 1: and a mandatory mini camp on June nine and ten.
- 0:59Speaker 1: Will keep our on that. But Adam, let's go inside
- 1:03Speaker 1: the week that was for Jalen Hurts, the Eagles and
- 1:06Speaker 1: this organization which man, I feel like dejah Vou with
- 1:09Speaker 1: a piece on the quarterback and he's uncoachable. And you know,
- 1:14Speaker 1: let's start with the Jeffrey Lorie stuff. What do you
- 1:17Speaker 1: make of how this week evolved for Jalen Hurts.
- 1:20Speaker 3: Yeah, look, we'll get to Hurt in a second. Because
- 1:23Speaker 3: you said Loriie. First, I was this is one of
- 1:26Speaker 3: Jeffrey's best press conferences he's had at the owners meetings.
- 1:28Speaker 3: I've been to a ton of them going back to
- 1:30Speaker 3: the early two thousands, so I thought he was the
- 1:33Speaker 3: most open. He's been very transparent. I was admitted how
- 1:40Speaker 3: involved he is. As a matter of fact, the club
- 1:42Speaker 3: privately has tried to downplay that to me over the years.
- 1:45Speaker 3: They told me I was wrong this, that and the other.
- 1:47Speaker 3: I know I wasn't, but I understand why they try
- 1:49Speaker 3: to defend their turf and their boss. But he was
- 1:52Speaker 3: right out in front. He told that story about he
- 1:54Speaker 3: would text Howi about you know, he might text Howie
- 1:57Speaker 3: like three or four am about you know, backup player,
- 2:00Speaker 3: whatever the case may be. He was very open. I
- 2:03Speaker 3: thought that was good. The stadium situation was interesting. You know,
- 2:05Speaker 3: their expiration on the on the lease on Lincoln Financial Field,
- 2:09Speaker 3: it expires in twenty thirty two. They're looking at a
- 2:13Speaker 3: variety of options, whether it's to refurbish the stadium or
- 2:16Speaker 3: to have a new one. So that I thought that
- 2:18Speaker 3: was interesting. And you're to finish that office, and we'll
- 2:21Speaker 3: move on to Jalen Hurts. He's a big Jalen Hurts fan.
- 2:25Speaker 3: We've talked about this before. We've known for years that
- 2:27Speaker 3: he's very close to Hurts. He gets close to a
- 2:29Speaker 3: lot of the key players. Fletcher Cox that one I
- 2:31Speaker 3: always thought was interesting that Fletcher's talked about it, Jeffrey's
- 2:37Speaker 3: talked about it, and you know what, that's I have
- 2:40Speaker 3: no problem with that, but Jeffrey knows, because he's owned
- 2:42Speaker 3: this team since nineteen ninety four. Sometimes you have to
- 2:45Speaker 3: walk away from your best players. I'll not talk about
- 2:47Speaker 3: Hurts specifically, but he's had to do that over the years,
- 2:50Speaker 3: and I know it's been tough for him.
- 2:52Speaker 1: Yeah, And I mean obviously, you know he came out
- 2:55Speaker 1: and spoke glowingly of Jalen not so lonely about Jalen Carter.
- 2:59Speaker 2: By the way, that weird. Yeah, but that was a
- 3:02Speaker 2: weird situation.
- 3:04Speaker 1: But then the Eagles story drops essentially almost the next day,
- 3:09Speaker 1: one from ESPN, A follow up from Jeff McLain from
- 3:12Speaker 1: the Inquiry. Let's summarize the ESPN story though, that kind
- 3:16Speaker 1: of you know, rock the Eagles fan base on Wednesday.
- 3:21Speaker 3: So I thought it was see Jeff and I know,
- 3:25Speaker 3: we've known about the issues that why Hurts has not
- 3:29Speaker 3: been as good as a passers as he should be.
- 3:30Speaker 3: It's not a secret. We've broken it down. Your were
- 3:34Speaker 3: feudal evidence by the tape. We've been are inside the
- 3:37Speaker 3: tape show with Greg co Sell. We we've got a
- 3:39Speaker 3: lot of people in the league tell us what the
- 3:41Speaker 3: tape looks like. And that's unbiased.
- 3:43Speaker 2: Now.
- 3:43Speaker 3: I know on our message board, our message board on YouTube,
- 3:47Speaker 3: you people called the call on. Are you know? Tim
- 3:52Speaker 3: McManis is a friend of Jeff and I. He's a
- 3:53Speaker 3: very good reporter. He's no biases. Jeff, I know Jeremy Fowler.
- 3:57Speaker 3: Jeremy was there when I was to ESPN. I work
- 4:00Speaker 3: closely with Tim for three or four years. Is a
- 4:02Speaker 3: good reporters. They all they wanted to do and they should,
- 4:07Speaker 3: especially Tim, because that's his team. But Jeremy's had some
- 4:10Speaker 3: good stuff with the Eagles over the years. Is find
- 4:11Speaker 3: out what the hell happened to their offense last season?
- 4:13Speaker 3: What why? What has happened to their passing game? Well,
- 4:17Speaker 3: Jalal Hurts as the quarterback. It's not like they're going
- 4:18Speaker 3: to talk about Tanner McKee. Tanner McKey started one game,
- 4:21Speaker 3: the Washington game, right, So let's let's be real here. So, yeah,
- 4:25Speaker 3: the offense of Osroun the quarterback with thirty two teams
- 4:27Speaker 3: and a lot of what I found interesting is they
- 4:30Speaker 3: did say team sources. They're not going to, of course
- 4:32Speaker 3: say who told them, what the information they got, But
- 4:35Speaker 3: I just thought the whole thing was interesting, Mike, to
- 4:37Speaker 3: be honest with you, I didn't disagree with any of it. Now,
- 4:42Speaker 3: the thing about coach being uncoach hurts being uncoachable. We
- 4:46Speaker 3: said this on our show that dropped today on Friday morning. Yeah,
- 4:50Speaker 3: we've heard over the years that he's difficult to coach.
- 4:51Speaker 3: He's stubborn, he wants to do some things his way
- 4:55Speaker 3: at times, like all veteran quarterbacks do. Sometimes it's like
- 5:01Speaker 3: he just I don't want to see rebels. He goes
- 5:02Speaker 3: you know what, this is what I'm going to do,
- 5:05Speaker 3: and the tape shows that when the play is supposed
- 5:08Speaker 3: to be something and he doesn't run it the right way,
- 5:10Speaker 3: that's just that's part of the Jaalenhart's experience. It's a fact, folks,
- 5:14Speaker 3: it's not really you can't refut it because it's a fact.
- 5:18Speaker 3: Now probably also open the two Super Bowls and one
- 5:21Speaker 3: to one, but it's not like he's playing on one
- 5:23Speaker 3: and eleven. I think the Hurts supporters, although a lot
- 5:29Speaker 3: of them have kind of they kind of a lot
- 5:30Speaker 3: of them have told us over the years, once they
- 5:33Speaker 3: we break down the tape, they've kind of like they
- 5:34Speaker 3: haven't thrown the talent. They've said, Okay, I get it,
- 5:36Speaker 3: he's still our guy, but we know he's got to
- 5:38Speaker 3: be a better passer. But sometimes they're like not some
- 5:42Speaker 3: of them are just not wanting to give it up.
- 5:44Speaker 3: They think there's a bias, that there's there's a there's
- 5:49Speaker 3: a hit squad out. You know what I'm saying, Mike,
- 5:51Speaker 3: not not what I mean, tim we're doing. They just
- 5:53Speaker 3: were not doing that.
- 5:54Speaker 2: Well right because there was some insinuation.
- 5:56Speaker 1: And I'd like to get your take on this is
- 5:57Speaker 1: the timing of the article, some suggesting that the message
- 6:01Speaker 1: that the organization wanted to get the message to Hertz
- 6:05Speaker 1: that hey, we know that you're tough to coach. We're
- 6:09Speaker 1: not getting through to you. Now we're gonna get through
- 6:11Speaker 1: to you. And this is really a make or break
- 6:14Speaker 1: type of season him. If he's unwilling to acquiesce to
- 6:17Speaker 1: Sean Mannion, it sounds like, well.
- 6:19Speaker 3: My teams don't purposely semesters by changing offense. It doesn't
- 6:24Speaker 3: work that way. It may be sending a message indirectly, sure, absolutely,
- 6:28Speaker 3: but you're doing it because they've run this offense. They
- 6:31Speaker 3: try to Nick Sirianni tried to run his offense. It
- 6:35Speaker 3: got severely scaled down. We've outlined this time after time
- 6:39Speaker 3: after time. We had a pro personnel. Sources. Source tell
- 6:43Speaker 3: us last season that he called it a high school
- 6:45Speaker 3: offense based on the concepts. He was embarrassing for an
- 6:49Speaker 3: NFL offense to run this way. How he knows it.
- 6:52Speaker 3: Nick knew it, The former OC knew it was. Now
- 6:55Speaker 3: in Miami, Kevin Batullo, it's got to change, that's all.
- 6:58Speaker 3: They're trying to have a modern offense.
- 7:01Speaker 2: Now.
- 7:02Speaker 3: I know there are some people think that hurts can't
- 7:03Speaker 3: run an offense like this. I understand that, but I
- 7:06Speaker 3: would argue in Jalen's defense, if you look at I'm
- 7:10Speaker 3: not saying consistently. We point out that the Charger game
- 7:12Speaker 3: where he had two picks, the Pittsburgh game two years ago,
- 7:16Speaker 3: he was brilliant, the the opener in twenty four in Brazil,
- 7:21Speaker 3: he was phenomenal. There are certain games where you go
- 7:24Speaker 3: the Minnesota game this past season, Mike on the road
- 7:27Speaker 3: made some great throws. Despite what aj Brown said on
- 7:31Speaker 3: on X, he had some great throws. So he can
- 7:34Speaker 3: throw on time, but he never has done it consistently.
- 7:37Speaker 3: That's a fact that absolutely. I might be in the minority,
- 7:42Speaker 3: but I think what's gonna happen is and he's gonna
- 7:44Speaker 3: he knows this because he knows what kind offense they're
- 7:47Speaker 3: gonna run, which is an old school West Coast offense,
- 7:51Speaker 3: new school concepts they're gonna see. He's gonna see in
- 7:53Speaker 3: OTAs in May Mike and the mandatory camp in and
- 7:56Speaker 3: winning the training camp. The old offense is not gonna
- 7:59Speaker 3: work where he's gonna scramble around and try to make
- 8:01Speaker 3: a deep throat that that bleep ain't working. I just
- 8:04Speaker 3: believe I might be the minority mic, but I think
- 8:07Speaker 3: he's actually going to do well in it. But we'll see.
- 8:10Speaker 2: Well and that we will see.
- 8:11Speaker 1: But you know, what is your feeling when you is
- 8:14Speaker 1: this normal to hear that you'll he seemingly went off
- 8:17Speaker 1: script a lot, called his own plays, was making plays
- 8:20Speaker 1: off essentially, Is that normal?
- 8:24Speaker 3: Well, I see, Mike, it's I'm not gonna refute it.
- 8:29Speaker 3: I'm just gonna say I don't. It's not like he's
- 8:30Speaker 3: making it up. But as one source told me, they'd
- 8:33Speaker 3: run the play in the game, excuse me, in practice
- 8:37Speaker 3: very well, it's not like they call script and practice.
- 8:40Speaker 3: You don't do that. You running in practice in the game.
- 8:44Speaker 3: He doesn't like the way it's going and he changes
- 8:46Speaker 3: the play that that did happen, and I think that's
- 8:49Speaker 3: part of the piece. But my my information is a
- 8:51Speaker 3: little different. But we Jeremy and Tim arrive at the
- 8:54Speaker 3: same conclusion. I did that he just from the people
- 8:59Speaker 3: they spoke with what we've heard on inside the Birds,
- 9:04Speaker 3: he just has not run the offense twenty three to
- 9:08Speaker 3: twenty four to twenty five the last two years, especially
- 9:11Speaker 3: consisting like it should have. And that's now as I
- 9:14Speaker 3: did drop this nugget on today's show. We haven't really
- 9:16Speaker 3: to our patron people know this, but I'll I went
- 9:19Speaker 3: public with it. We had a coaching source tell us
- 9:22Speaker 3: that Petullo's reputation is sharp guy, good person, very detailed,
- 9:29Speaker 3: but might be too nice of a guy, which tells
- 9:33Speaker 3: me is sewn Mannion, Mike, this guy's been coaching for
- 9:37Speaker 3: two years. He's thirty three years old. Could he coach hard?
- 9:40Speaker 3: I don't know about that.
- 9:42Speaker 1: And that leads us to the last thing I want
- 9:44Speaker 1: to ask you about Adam kaplan with US Football at four,
- 9:47Speaker 1: which is the reporting that there were tense moments in
- 9:50Speaker 1: twenty twenty four with Kellen Moore as the coach. They
- 9:54Speaker 1: ended up winning the Super Bowl that year. And that
- 9:58Speaker 1: makes me think of the Carson Wentzton. You guys have
- 10:00Speaker 1: John d Philippo on Inside the Birds all the time,
- 10:04Speaker 1: and when de Philippo left, we heard the reporting about
- 10:08Speaker 1: Carson and unwillingness to really be coached and he needed
- 10:11Speaker 1: to be co charge. Does this bring any thoughts about that?
- 10:15Speaker 3: Well, we actually reported at the time. We were the
- 10:16Speaker 3: first word to put in fact our first ever show
- 10:18Speaker 3: in twenty eighteen, we talked about how Flip coach Carson
- 10:22Speaker 3: hard and Carson at first, from what we understood, he
- 10:27Speaker 3: kind of brushed back and then accepted it. And you
- 10:29Speaker 3: know how great he was before he got hurt, and
- 10:31Speaker 3: he was never the letter yet. And we're not taking
- 10:33Speaker 3: anything from a way that De Filippo coach John's brilliant.
- 10:37Speaker 3: But Carson also broke his He had the back fracture.
- 10:41Speaker 3: He was couped from major knee injury, one of the
- 10:43Speaker 3: most devastating the injuries because he also tore the side
- 10:47Speaker 3: of his leg. It wasn't just the multi ligament injury.
- 10:51Speaker 3: He tore the it band that like that never happens.
- 10:53Speaker 3: So he's never really the same physically, Mike, And you know,
- 10:56Speaker 3: he's had a It's crazy how many injuries Carson had.
- 10:59Speaker 3: This latest one was your shoulder surgery he had with
- 11:01Speaker 3: the Vikings and he's back. There's a third three quarterback,
- 11:03Speaker 3: but going back to this thing to finish it off. Yeah,
- 11:08Speaker 3: I'm very interested to see in Scott Leffler by the way,
- 11:10Speaker 3: he coaches hard and he did a good job when
- 11:12Speaker 3: I understand, I know that they gave him they wanted
- 11:16Speaker 3: to give and too. The Eagles credit Mike. They wanted
- 11:18Speaker 3: to give Sean Manning the ability to bring whoever he
- 11:20Speaker 3: wanted the too the Eagles credit. They've always done that.
- 11:23Speaker 3: They didn't do that with Kelli Moore to be to
- 11:25Speaker 3: be perfectly clear, but they're giving Sean Manning helps here,
- 11:29Speaker 3: so we'll see how it happens.
- 11:31Speaker 1: Well, that one's interesting because, right you know, the tense
- 11:34Speaker 1: moments between Kellen Moore and Kellen Moore is a guy.
- 11:36Speaker 1: Now I don't know, you may have heard about killing.
- 11:39Speaker 1: He doesn't come off as the kind of guy who
- 11:40Speaker 1: was very confrontational.
- 11:42Speaker 3: No, I know for a fact, Yeah, Mike that I
- 11:47Speaker 3: wouldn't use the word they used. I would use exasperated,
- 11:51Speaker 3: which means he tried hard. There were times I was
- 11:53Speaker 3: told by multiple sources that he just could not get
- 11:56Speaker 3: Hurts to play the way he wanted. But then you
- 11:59Speaker 3: saw the per game where out of the blue, he
- 12:01Speaker 3: played out of his mind. He was great.
- 12:03Speaker 2: Well, did you see.
- 12:04Speaker 1: The quoting from McLean's article that said a scout said,
- 12:08Speaker 1: you know, every once in a while, he'll play a
- 12:10Speaker 1: game like he did in the Super Bowl, But that's
- 12:12Speaker 1: one out of ten.
- 12:14Speaker 3: Yeah, I didn't see it, but that's perfectly submitated. That's
- 12:17Speaker 3: what I've been saying this whole interview Mike, is that
- 12:20Speaker 3: it's so random his success. It's man name because I
- 12:24Speaker 3: would say to our Patreon members, why can't he do this?
- 12:27Speaker 3: So I ad Steve Flippa, I'll just give you and
- 12:29Speaker 3: I got to run in a minute. I said to John,
- 12:31Speaker 3: how do you coach these guys when you're when it's random,
- 12:34Speaker 3: Like he goes, Look, what you do is you can't
- 12:37Speaker 3: do it during the game. You can't if something's bothered
- 12:39Speaker 3: you as a coach, you can't yell at him you're
- 12:41Speaker 3: watching the tape, like he gave me an example of Carson.
- 12:44Speaker 3: When Carson would to go off script or things weren't ready,
- 12:47Speaker 3: go hey, that's not the way we coached it. This
- 12:49Speaker 3: is what we want and Carson would you know, Carson
- 12:52Speaker 3: would do it, but they'd have to point it out.
- 12:54Speaker 3: Because I think what happens to Mike is to finish
- 12:57Speaker 3: this off. When you have high level success like kurtzz
- 13:00Speaker 3: had and then he got a contract. Sometimes you think, well,
- 13:03Speaker 3: you know what, I don't know what the war to
- 13:06Speaker 3: be entitled. You could come up with every verb without
- 13:09Speaker 3: our object if you want. But you think you're the man, now,
- 13:13Speaker 3: and that's been a little bit of hurts here. And
- 13:15Speaker 3: remember when he said it was probably after that Pittsburgh game. Oh,
- 13:19Speaker 3: this is what you guys wanted to see what they took.
- 13:22Speaker 3: They took this straight jacket off, he said, which I love,
- 13:24Speaker 3: by the way, I thought that was awesome. Yeah, but
- 13:27Speaker 3: he's basically saying, whatn't me? It was them call the coaches.
- 13:30Speaker 3: Let's let's face, don't you.
- 13:31Speaker 2: Think so a little bit? Yeah? Yeah, they finally, y,
- 13:36Speaker 2: they finally let me rip a little bit there.
- 13:39Speaker 1: Adam Kaplan Inside the Birds podcast dropped this morning. You
- 13:42Speaker 1: can check that out and of course on all podcasting platforms.
- 13:45Speaker 1: This offseason will be more interesting by the day as
- 13:49Speaker 1: the draft comes up.
- 13:50Speaker 2: Adam, we'll talk again next week. Man, you got it.
- 13:52Speaker 3: Thanks,
