- 2:44Speaker 2: You have a most memorable event from any of the
- 2:47Speaker 2: shows that's coming.
- 2:48Speaker 3: Up, Trying to think. You know, the one of the
- 2:57Speaker 3: cooler episodes I thought was the Alaska Bear Hunt. Just
- 3:03Speaker 3: that that backcountry stuff up there in interior Alaska is
- 3:08Speaker 3: so cool. I just love that country.
- 3:11Speaker 2: Which do you know what order that will be? Which
- 3:14Speaker 2: one that'll be? I don't have any idea.
- 3:16Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 3:17Speaker 1: I do know. I believe it'll be episode four, episode
- 3:21Speaker 1: four weeks from this Monday.
- 3:23Speaker 2: Okay, A lot of good stuff Africa Alaska.
- 3:27Speaker 3: Or else Africa, Alaska, Texas, Turkey hunting down there with
- 3:33Speaker 3: Luke Comb's Africa Uh Montana muzzleloader hunt.
- 3:40Speaker 2: Oh yeah, if.
- 3:42Speaker 3: You watch the the last mussl order hunt that Steve did,
- 3:46Speaker 3: you'll have to watch this one to see if there's any.
- 3:48Speaker 2: Redemption ah little tea.

- 4:05Speaker 2: a new episode and Meat Eater Shed's is coming out
- 4:10Speaker 2: or is out right now? I think the last episode?
- 4:13Speaker 1: Yeah, Ben out the Jeff Fox were of the episode,
- 4:15Speaker 1: which has been a hit, but it has been really
- 4:17Speaker 1: popular checked out out on the meat Eater YouTube channel.
- 4:20Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, I've got I got my own shed
- 4:23Speaker 2: from the folks at store More and I'm putting together
- 4:26Speaker 2: a studio podcast studio that I'm going to be recording
- 4:32Speaker 2: my stuff out of. Right now, I'm recording in a
- 4:35Speaker 2: bedroom upstairs in my house. And these folks were kind
- 4:38Speaker 2: enough to work with us and be a partner with
- 4:40Speaker 2: meat Eater. Now I've got a full fledged studio out
- 4:44Speaker 2: in the backyard and ore Is Alexis calls it my
- 4:49Speaker 2: Brent's house where I'll be staying, where all my toys
- 4:52Speaker 2: will be hey, and I'll be out there, But I'm
- 4:55Speaker 2: excited about working with those folks. As a matter of fact,
- 4:57Speaker 2: they issued or posted on their Instagram page today a
- 5:02Speaker 2: video of them delivering that thing, which was an event
- 5:05Speaker 2: all in itself so nice. Yeah, it was pretty cool.
- 5:07Speaker 3: Cool.
- 5:08Speaker 2: You can see that on I think my Instagram, but
- 5:10Speaker 2: the store More Instagram too. It's STO R M O R.
- 5:15Speaker 2: I think buildings, but it's yeah.
- 5:17Speaker 1: They look like some high quality little storage units.
- 5:19Speaker 2: Man.
- 5:20Speaker 4: Uh.
- 5:20Speaker 2: The electrician got actually wrote on the fuse box when
- 5:23Speaker 2: they looked electricity at Brent's house. That's that's how where
- 5:26Speaker 2: they labeled that that connection there. So it's nice, very nice. Uh,
- 5:33Speaker 2: Tony Peterson, he's got a one is he's got it
- 5:36Speaker 2: shows it dropping today.
- 5:37Speaker 1: It just dropped five minutes ago on the Meat Eater
- 5:40Speaker 1: YouTube channel. Yeah, whitetail hunt in Iowa. Ooh, it's an
- 5:43Speaker 1: emotional roller coaster.
- 5:45Speaker 2: Really.
- 5:45Speaker 1: Yeah, you should check that out for the deer and
- 5:48Speaker 1: for Tony. Oh boy, for Tony mostly deer really didn't
- 5:51Speaker 1: know what was going on.
- 5:53Speaker 2: Okay, we've got uh what else we got going Oh?
- 5:56Speaker 2: The Meat Eater Live tour, this Chris us that they
- 6:01Speaker 2: say it's a Southern tour. I say they are dipping
- 6:04Speaker 2: their toes in the South.
- 6:06Speaker 3: It's like the shallow South.
- 6:07Speaker 2: Yeah, the shallow South. But it's a move in the
- 6:10Speaker 2: right direction. And who knows where the next one will be.
- 6:13Speaker 2: We're gonna be in like five different places or six. Birmingham, Alabama,
- 6:19Speaker 2: we will be there on December the seventeenth, Nashville will
- 6:23Speaker 2: be the next day on the eighteenth, Memphis the next
- 6:26Speaker 2: day on the twentieth, Fayetteville, Arkansas, which is sold out
- 6:31Speaker 2: on the twentieth, and then Dallas and Austin on the
- 6:34Speaker 2: twenty one, and twenty first and Austin being the being
- 6:36Speaker 2: the final show there. But it is. I'm looking forward
- 6:40Speaker 2: to it. It's gonna be fun. It's gonna be me,
- 6:42Speaker 2: Steve Yannie, Doctor Randall and Clay bow fun and it
- 6:47Speaker 2: should be a should be a fun time. I'm looking
- 6:50Speaker 2: forward to getting out and seeing folks.
- 6:52Speaker 1: Yeah, well, Seth and I'll make sure the lights are
- 6:54Speaker 1: on and Phil, yea the lights.
- 6:57Speaker 2: Tour in the South. So hunting season, Corey, tell me
- 7:04Speaker 2: a hunting story.
- 7:06Speaker 1: Man this fall. This fall, we're just about to wrap
- 7:09Speaker 1: up Montana's archery season, and it's been a grind for
- 7:13Speaker 1: me at least. I just haven't been able to pick
- 7:15Speaker 1: my ideal weather. I'm just, you know, don't get to
- 7:18Speaker 1: pick your weather, as they say, and have gone out
- 7:20Speaker 1: eleven days now and it's just either been raining or sleeping,
- 7:23Speaker 1: and I just haven't been able to get into too
- 7:25Speaker 1: many fired up elk. I say that because I've been
- 7:28Speaker 1: pretty spoiled the last couple of years, actually having some
- 7:30Speaker 1: amazing encounters on public land. But this year's just been
- 7:34Speaker 1: a little bit tougher, which just makes me appreciate bow
- 7:36Speaker 1: hunting and the grind of it all. And Luckily, rifle
- 7:40Speaker 1: season opens up a week from Saturday, so I can't
- 7:43Speaker 1: wait to watch one fall over at two hundred yards
- 7:46Speaker 1: A number of giant bowls that I've had under one
- 7:49Speaker 1: hundred yards. I just can't do anything about knowing.
- 7:51Speaker 2: Any close encounters, getting them called in close, so they're
- 7:53Speaker 2: just they're not not leaving them.
- 7:55Speaker 1: I've had a few certainly close encounters, just not yet
- 7:59Speaker 1: have yet to draw my bow back.
- 8:01Speaker 2: Did you say where that was at? Because I can't
- 8:02Speaker 2: remember if you told me where that was?
- 8:04Speaker 1: By that tree under the stage brush, the brown tree. Yeah, okay,
- 8:08Speaker 1: all right, it's been It's been good though, but I'm
- 8:10Speaker 1: excited about rifle season.
- 8:12Speaker 2: What about you?
- 8:14Speaker 3: I actually haven't a hunted once so far. Really did
- 8:18Speaker 3: you quit?
- 8:19Speaker 2: No? I didn't quit.
- 8:20Speaker 3: I I my fall kind of got all messed up.
- 8:24Speaker 3: I had a lot of plans to uh do some
- 8:27Speaker 3: a lot of fall fishing this year, so I wasn't,
- 8:30Speaker 3: you know, doing any practice at all with the with
- 8:33Speaker 3: the old bow, and then some stuff. One thing led
- 8:38Speaker 3: to another, stuff happened with the boat. Couldn't use the boat,
- 8:41Speaker 3: still can't use the boat. So I ended up getting
- 8:45Speaker 3: out on the buddies boat though, we just me and some.
- 8:47Speaker 2: Buddies did uh uh I saw some pictures. Yeah.
- 8:50Speaker 3: We did a big fall fishing trip to Fort Peck
- 8:55Speaker 3: and where's that central Montana. Ye went out there, caught
- 9:00Speaker 3: a bunch of small mouth, some nice ones, the biggest
- 9:04Speaker 3: one with six pounds.
- 9:06Speaker 2: Nice.
- 9:08Speaker 3: Yeah, but no, it was it was fun just fall fishing,
- 9:12Speaker 3: you know, for anything is awesome, but fall small He's
- 9:15Speaker 3: just one of my favorites.
- 9:16Speaker 2: Well, everybody that killed a moose this year, raise your hand.
- 9:20Speaker 2: That's right. It was me. Nice incredible adventure in northern
- 9:26Speaker 2: Manitoba with some friends of mine that we're going to
- 9:29Speaker 2: talk to you in a minute. But when uh a
- 9:33Speaker 2: little lead into it. Over a year ago, Garrett at
- 9:38Speaker 2: Garrett Long asked, my boss asked me. He said, what's
- 9:40Speaker 2: what's your dream hunt? And I just spit out there.
- 9:43Speaker 2: I like to kill a moose in Canada. And he said, okay,
- 9:47Speaker 2: find an outfitter, because you got to have an outfitter
- 9:49Speaker 2: in Canada. And I'm like, sir, he said, yeah, let's
- 9:53Speaker 2: let's start working on it. So a year later it
- 9:56Speaker 2: all come to Fruition and we went to me and
- 9:59Speaker 2: Dave Gardner cameraman for me to eat contractor and good
- 10:03Speaker 2: friend of mine that I've been hunting with for probably
- 10:06Speaker 2: five years now on different projects. We go up there,
- 10:10Speaker 2: and it was from the time we left the bank
- 10:14Speaker 2: on that floatplane until we got back, it was just
- 10:16Speaker 2: one incredible adventure after another. And I think, mister Taylor,
- 10:21Speaker 2: we want to pull up pictures. Do we have some pictures?
- 10:23Speaker 3: Do you have some pictures?
- 10:24Speaker 2: Yeah? Moose?
- 10:27Speaker 3: Nice?
- 10:28Speaker 1: Look at that handsome Yeah?
- 10:30Speaker 2: Yeah, and that moose.
- 10:32Speaker 3: That is a nice moose. Brent.
- 10:34Speaker 5: It was.
- 10:35Speaker 2: It's just an incredible encounter had all come about. I
- 10:40Speaker 2: don't want to give it all away because it was
- 10:42Speaker 2: just so so cool, but I will anyway, he surprised us,
- 10:47Speaker 2: just slipped out in the river while we were waiting
- 10:50Speaker 2: and four hundred and sixty yard shot. That's a ham
- 10:56Speaker 2: or shoulder. I can't remember which that is.
- 10:58Speaker 3: So you guys were you were hunting out of cabins,
- 11:01Speaker 3: like you're staying cabins up there.
- 11:03Speaker 2: We flew flew in on a floatplane, yep, and they
- 11:06Speaker 2: dropped us off and we had a cabin there. In
- 11:08Speaker 2: the cabin there's a plywood floor and plywood walls and
- 11:12Speaker 2: a tarp over the over the top because you can't
- 11:14Speaker 2: have a permanent structure. I think it has a roof,
- 11:18Speaker 2: it's counted as a permanent structure there. So so the
- 11:22Speaker 2: craigging them built this thing earlier this year, I think,
- 11:26Speaker 2: and or last year. We'll asking about it in a minute.
- 11:29Speaker 2: But we was flying there and then we were headquartered
- 11:33Speaker 2: and hunted out of that thing out of a boat,
- 11:35Speaker 2: and we wound up killing that thing by boat like
- 11:39Speaker 2: a mile and a half from where we were staying,
- 11:42Speaker 2: God and put straight through the woods. It was probably
- 11:46Speaker 2: three quarters of a mile. But it's just man, it's
- 11:49Speaker 2: wild country. That northern lights were shining.
- 11:52Speaker 3: On us, and it was just so were you guys
- 11:54Speaker 3: going out and calling for him?
- 11:55Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 11:56Speaker 3: Every day?
- 11:56Speaker 2: Yep, every day. I killed that moose on the third
- 11:59Speaker 2: day of third day. I was there the second full
- 12:03Speaker 2: day that we hunted, and then everything else, I mean
- 12:06Speaker 2: we had the biscuit and everything else was the gravy
- 12:08Speaker 2: that we shot after that, and it's I'm really proud.
- 12:11Speaker 2: I'm think it's going to be really good. It was
- 12:14Speaker 2: fun from start to finish.
- 12:15Speaker 3: What's the legal requirements for a bull moose up? There is?
- 12:19Speaker 3: There is? There is that to be certain with brow
- 12:22Speaker 3: tinns like Alaska's. You know some units you have to
- 12:25Speaker 3: have like four brow tinns.
- 12:26Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, I don't know. I wouldn't ask the
- 12:29Speaker 2: man here in a minute, because when he stepped out there,
- 12:32Speaker 2: he said, that's a shooter. And that's the last thing
- 12:34Speaker 2: I remember. Remember. Yeah, that's all I needed to hear
- 12:38Speaker 2: because that one picture that Craig put up, I mean
- 12:41Speaker 2: that Pheel put up there of the backstrap. Can you
- 12:44Speaker 2: put that back up there? Yeah?
- 12:46Speaker 1: Yeah, that is massive.
- 12:47Speaker 3: It's the size of a deer.
- 12:48Speaker 2: That's one backstrap. Now, I brought all this I'm bringing
- 12:51Speaker 2: all this meat home. I brought uh, we dropped off
- 12:55Speaker 2: everything at a meat processor, the meat station in Eric's day,
- 13:00Speaker 2: Old Manitoba, and I to get processed. And Craig's going
- 13:03Speaker 2: to bring that down to me later. But that is
- 13:06Speaker 2: one backstrap. And I brought both backstraps home and one
- 13:12Speaker 2: in each in each soft cooler. One of them weighed
- 13:15Speaker 2: forty nine pounds and the other one weighed fifty one.
- 13:19Speaker 2: I was talking to Alexzanmer last night that runs the
- 13:22Speaker 2: meat at or store here in Bozeman, and he said
- 13:24Speaker 2: that he cut up a antelope and had sixty four
- 13:27Speaker 2: pounds of meat. I thought, my gosh, two backstraps weighed
- 13:32Speaker 2: almost twice as much.
- 13:33Speaker 1: As that's great, incredible, it's really really good and delicious too.
- 13:38Speaker 1: I imagine, Oh.
- 13:39Speaker 2: Man, we started eating on it. We was not on
- 13:41Speaker 2: it that night, so I killed and we ate it
- 13:43Speaker 2: every night for supper. Then it just got better and better,
- 13:46Speaker 2: which brings me to the guy I want to talk
- 13:49Speaker 2: to about it, mister Craig McCarthy. Craig is Craig.
- 13:54Speaker 1: Are you there, buddy, I'm there, I'm here there there
- 13:59Speaker 1: he is Craig.
- 14:00Speaker 2: And his wife Melanie. Their family run North Mountain Adventures.
- 14:04Speaker 2: That's a guide service there in Manitoba. Is that southern
- 14:08Speaker 2: Manitoba where you would be for Central Manitoba, in Central Manitoba.
- 14:15Speaker 2: And then his father has a concern, a guide in business, uh,
- 14:22Speaker 2: for moose up in the northern part, and that's where
- 14:25Speaker 2: and Craig guides for him up there, and that's that's
- 14:28Speaker 2: where we went up there. Craig, great to talk to you,
- 14:31Speaker 2: my friend. You've been a friend of mine for going
- 14:35Speaker 2: on two years now, I guess, but uh, we just
- 14:39Speaker 2: had a wonderful trip up there, and I appreciate, appreciate
- 14:43Speaker 2: you coming out here today.
- 14:46Speaker 5: I appreciate you inviting me.
- 14:48Speaker 2: What tell us about about the guide in life? It's
- 14:52Speaker 2: not it's not easy, is it?
- 14:55Speaker 5: Uh?
- 14:56Speaker 3: It's uh.
- 14:58Speaker 5: Actually it's probably the most fun and I have all
- 15:00Speaker 5: years what I'm guiding. But yeah, sometimes you got to
- 15:03Speaker 5: be away from home. But that's just part of the job.
- 15:08Speaker 5: It had something I love to do since I was
- 15:10Speaker 5: since my parents started doing it when they I was
- 15:13Speaker 5: probably around ten twelve years old, helping out and it's
- 15:17Speaker 5: just progressed from there and now it's a huge part
- 15:20Speaker 5: of my life and my family's life.
- 15:24Speaker 3: Craig, I had a question for you, what all like,
- 15:27Speaker 3: what hunts do you offer up there?
- 15:30Speaker 5: We do black bear and white tailed deer out of
- 15:36Speaker 5: our home and we started doing I started guiding for
- 15:41Speaker 5: caribou up north, which is an addition this year. And yeah,
- 15:47Speaker 5: then I guide for my parents and anybody else that
- 15:49Speaker 5: needs help.
- 15:51Speaker 1: Cool do any fishing trips up there too? Or are
- 15:53Speaker 1: you just just hunting?
- 15:56Speaker 2: You know what?
- 15:56Speaker 5: We can We have a good walleye fishing and pike
- 16:00Speaker 5: fishing ten minutes away from here, but that's usually we
- 16:04Speaker 5: just offer our cabins and people come and stay and
- 16:07Speaker 5: go fishing. If they need a nice shock or something,
- 16:10Speaker 5: I have them here that they can use them.
- 16:12Speaker 3: Yeah, that sounds fun.
- 16:13Speaker 2: Yeah, that's an adventure. See the ice fishing thing. That's
- 16:16Speaker 2: totally foreign to me. I bet yeah, no idea.
- 16:20Speaker 3: You don't get too many opportunities to do that down
- 16:22Speaker 3: in Arkansas.
- 16:23Speaker 2: No, not many at all. And the water's clear where
- 16:26Speaker 2: we were at up there, we caught some walleye, we
- 16:30Speaker 2: caught some pike. That's right, pike, isn't it. Yeah? And
- 16:36Speaker 2: the pike up there that I mean, they're just like
- 16:38Speaker 2: a what we call a jackfish at home, but our
- 16:43Speaker 2: guar and oh yeah up there, man, golly, in that
- 16:46Speaker 2: clear cold water, they were so good. We ate them.
- 16:49Speaker 2: Craig flayed them out and took the bones out of them,
- 16:52Speaker 2: and we had those one night with some with some
- 16:55Speaker 2: moose and it was nice, fantastic. But you're not you're
- 17:00Speaker 2: a second generation guide now falling, you know, with your dad.
- 17:03Speaker 2: And your dad's still active. What about your kids, Hayden
- 17:09Speaker 2: and Kirsten. He's got two kids that are like Tier
- 17:14Speaker 2: one rodeo kids right now.
- 17:15Speaker 3: Nice?
- 17:16Speaker 2: Wow, will they be joining? And you think in the
- 17:18Speaker 2: in the Guiden.
- 17:19Speaker 5: Business, I think it's probably pretty much a guarantee that
- 17:25Speaker 5: Hayden's gonna follow. He's an avid at doorsman. My daughter
- 17:30Speaker 5: is starting to be, but she's heavy in the role
- 17:34Speaker 5: with her mom when everybody comes out for cooking and
- 17:37Speaker 5: bacon stuff and yeah, bugging the guys.
- 17:42Speaker 2: Yeah, they're absolutely they're a fun family. Craig that that
- 17:45Speaker 2: cabin there is where is on Craigs? Where is his
- 17:49Speaker 2: home place where he lives. And that's where we were
- 17:52Speaker 2: when I bear hunted with him, when I met him
- 17:54Speaker 2: last year and killed a big old four hundred and
- 17:56Speaker 2: forty pound chocolate bear up there. We were staying right there,
- 18:00Speaker 2: and man, for bears, they're just they're just they're everywhere
- 18:04Speaker 2: up there. Yanni. I think Yanni filmed a filmed a
- 18:08Speaker 2: bear hunt up there with you this year, Is that right?
- 18:11Speaker 1: Yes, sir.
- 18:12Speaker 5: He shot a three hundred and eighty nine pound black
- 18:15Speaker 5: I believe on the third night.
- 18:17Speaker 3: Of his hunt.
- 18:19Speaker 2: Yeah, that's that's fantastic. Yeah, it's also not four hundred
- 18:23Speaker 2: and forty pounds. Sorry, Yannie. And he also y'all y'all
- 18:28Speaker 2: went on a caribou hunt with with Yanni too.
- 18:31Speaker 5: Yeah, we just uh, that was two weeks before you
- 18:35Speaker 5: came up.
- 18:35Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, Craig was. Craig was hunting up. They were
- 18:39Speaker 2: in Now I'm going to pronounce this wrong, but it
- 18:41Speaker 2: looks like none of it, is that right? Nun of it?
- 18:46Speaker 2: How you pronounce it?
- 18:47Speaker 5: Yeah, we're in Manitoba and the Nuna. It close to
- 18:50Speaker 5: the Nunavate border.
- 18:52Speaker 2: Yeah, they were, They were up there and then so
- 18:55Speaker 2: when I met Craig and when I went up there
- 18:58Speaker 2: at the end of Septe, he had been away from
- 19:01Speaker 2: homes like twenty six days at that point, is that right?
- 19:05Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 19:05Speaker 6: When I got home was twenty six or twenty seven days.
- 19:09Speaker 2: It's grind you clean up well, bud it because uh
- 19:12Speaker 2: you don't. You didn't look as cleaning. Uhh, that's all
- 19:15Speaker 2: you used to do right now?
- 19:17Speaker 5: Yeah, I think I think at like day eighteen or
- 19:21Speaker 5: nineteen is when you quit carrying how you look?
- 19:25Speaker 2: Well, it was a great adventure. The Dave captured some
- 19:30Speaker 2: outstanding stuff. I think it's going to be really good.
- 19:32Speaker 2: I think the folks are going to enjoy that video
- 19:35Speaker 2: or film, whatever you want to call it. It'll be
- 19:38Speaker 2: a feature one next year, so it's gonna be like
- 19:40Speaker 2: a forty five minute deal.
- 19:42Speaker 3: So cool.
- 19:43Speaker 2: It'll be good. But Yanni's Yannie's bear hunt, Yannie's caribou hunt,
- 19:48Speaker 2: and my moose hunt will all be stuff that'll coming
- 19:52Speaker 2: out next year when when it's time for it to
- 19:55Speaker 2: come out there. So it was it's incredible. Now where
- 20:01Speaker 2: we flew into like two hours away from there's like
- 20:05Speaker 2: a two hour ride in there to to where we
- 20:08Speaker 2: were camped, no roads. How are you getting all? What's
- 20:11Speaker 2: the tell me? The logistics are described to the folks
- 20:14Speaker 2: that they might not know the logistics about getting how
- 20:18Speaker 2: hard it is to get just plywood in there because
- 20:21Speaker 2: you got to fly it all in right.
- 20:24Speaker 5: Yeah, you bet. We Obviously, otters are our main are
- 20:29Speaker 5: the main flights that we use because they can hold
- 20:32Speaker 5: a lot of weight. So it depends on how far
- 20:37Speaker 5: the camp is for how much fuel they need, but
- 20:41Speaker 5: usually you're looking at you can usually put about thirty
- 20:44Speaker 5: five hundred pounds in a plane. So plywood's got to
- 20:49Speaker 5: be flown in two by fours, two by six as
- 20:52Speaker 5: the whole works, which you can never get on one flight,
- 20:54Speaker 5: so it's multiple flights in to build one camp. So
- 20:59Speaker 5: you're arounds probably two to three hunts before you can,
- 21:06Speaker 5: you know, start getting your money back.
- 21:09Speaker 2: So it's just now the whole process is hard. It's
- 21:11Speaker 2: it's everything about that is hard, but it's it's so
- 21:17Speaker 2: worth the effort it was. It's just an incredible to
- 21:22Speaker 2: think about how hard it is to get boats out there.
- 21:26Speaker 2: I mean, because you got to fly boats in, you
- 21:28Speaker 2: got the boat motors, gas, and it's an on going
- 21:31Speaker 2: back and forth of of of of supplies back and forth,
- 21:36Speaker 2: you know, and then you got you know, the moost
- 21:40Speaker 2: that the most that we killed there, all the meat
- 21:42Speaker 2: that you got to take back on it, you know,
- 21:44Speaker 2: and there's other camps with other moos. So it's just, man,
- 21:47Speaker 2: it's just a it's a big deal getting all that
- 21:50Speaker 2: stuff in and out of there, more even more so
- 21:53Speaker 2: than I than I realized about it.
- 21:55Speaker 3: How do you get boats in?
- 21:56Speaker 2: There?
- 21:57Speaker 3: Are the otters on floats? You strap into the floats
- 21:59Speaker 3: or how how does that work?
- 22:01Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 22:01Speaker 5: Yeah, absolutely, And as soon as you put a boat
- 22:03Speaker 5: on any size of boat, you reduce your weight by
- 22:07Speaker 5: twenty five percent instantly, even though the boat doesn't weigh
- 22:10Speaker 5: that much. It's just the wind and the dragon stuff
- 22:15Speaker 5: got cha. But we flew every single boat in on pontoons,
- 22:20Speaker 5: one boat at a time, and yeah, you just planned.
- 22:23Speaker 2: Well, well you can hear me talk a lot about
- 22:28Speaker 2: actually describing detail that hunt. My podcast last week was
- 22:33Speaker 2: the first part, and the one that's coming out tomorrow
- 22:36Speaker 2: is the second part of that hunt. And I think
- 22:38Speaker 2: folks will enjoy it. I hope. So it was. It
- 22:41Speaker 2: was so much fun. I think the most rugged thing
- 22:45Speaker 2: we did was sitting in that seat on that thirty
- 22:49Speaker 2: forty year old airplane or whatever. They obviously put all
- 22:53Speaker 2: the design thought into making that thing safe to get
- 22:57Speaker 2: you from one spot to the other, but how you
- 22:59Speaker 2: got there, if you were comfortable A lot I ain't
- 23:02Speaker 2: really care about.
- 23:03Speaker 1: Sure, Yeah, but it was.
- 23:06Speaker 2: It was so much fun, Craig. I can't tell you
- 23:08Speaker 2: how much I enjoyed it. I mean I've talked to
- 23:11Speaker 2: you nearly every day since then, since we got back home.
- 23:15Speaker 2: Looking forward to you coming down in the States later
- 23:18Speaker 2: on in hunting season and and doing some hunting down here,
- 23:21Speaker 2: and hopefully I'll get to get to see you.
- 23:24Speaker 5: Then yeah next week, Colorado, Yep.
- 23:28Speaker 2: Nice, it'll be fun. Thank you, buddy. I appreciate you
- 23:31Speaker 2: being here, and thank you for everything for helping me.
- 23:34Speaker 2: I appreciate it.
- 23:36Speaker 5: Thank you, appreciate it.
- 23:39Speaker 3: Thanks Greg, Thanks Craig.
- 23:40Speaker 2: And they're great folks. That's the whole family. I just
- 23:44Speaker 2: absolutely love them, all right. Our next segment is show
- 23:51Speaker 2: and Tell shut Out. I wish I had that CD
- 24:08Speaker 2: rock what else?
- 24:11Speaker 1: I feel like you probably could put out an album
- 24:13Speaker 1: by now.
- 24:14Speaker 3: Yeah, when this, when this.
- 24:15Speaker 4: Show ends, I'll put out a I'll put out like
- 24:18Speaker 4: a either a just a big medley of everything or
- 24:20Speaker 4: like a playlist or something. I'll put it on the Reddit.
- 24:22Speaker 4: You guys can download it for those freaks that want
- 24:25Speaker 4: to listen to that.
- 24:29Speaker 3: Yeah, I love all of you. It's more you love
- 24:32Speaker 3: all four.
- 24:35Speaker 2: All right. Show and Tale, everybody, Show and Tale, just
- 24:39Speaker 2: like kindergarten for me, which was like three years. Is
- 24:42Speaker 2: uh where you bring something to school or to show
- 24:45Speaker 2: all you pals? What uh something you want to show
- 24:48Speaker 2: and talk about? So Corey, you're first in line.
- 24:51Speaker 7: All right.
- 24:52Speaker 1: Then I was going to bring in some boring stuff
- 24:54Speaker 1: like a giant elk shed or a mountain lion skull,
- 24:57Speaker 1: but instead I made a quick trip over to our
- 25:01Speaker 1: office free table.
- 25:03Speaker 2: Don't just know the folks what the free table is, Well, it's.
- 25:06Speaker 1: Exactly what it sounds like. If anybody's got some old
- 25:09Speaker 1: gear that they're not using anymore, or you know, sometimes
- 25:12Speaker 1: there's some partnerships hats and hoodies that might end up
- 25:15Speaker 1: on there.
- 25:15Speaker 3: Sometimes people use that free table as just a place
- 25:18Speaker 3: to get rid of shit they don't.
- 25:20Speaker 1: That's Yanna. Yanni's got all sorts of old clothes in there.
- 25:24Speaker 1: I mean, if the if the local Goodwill won't take it.
- 25:27Speaker 3: There's a pair of boots that's falling apart on the
- 25:29Speaker 3: free table. They came from Yon.
- 25:31Speaker 1: Well, speaking of old boots that are falling apart here,
- 25:33Speaker 1: I got a pair of size ten Corker wave fishing boots,
- 25:37Speaker 1: which these are actually also great. It's got it's a
- 25:40Speaker 1: felt soul, but it's removable. You can put a rubber
- 25:42Speaker 1: sole on. Oh nice, which I might snag these. There
- 25:45Speaker 1: are size ten, which is right up my alley, So
- 25:47Speaker 1: I thought that was pretty cool. I just grabbed one
- 25:49Speaker 1: of those.
- 25:49Speaker 2: What else do we got?
- 25:50Speaker 1: I got there's a couple of DVDs up there. The
- 25:53Speaker 1: first one I snagged was the Will Ferrell and John Header.
- 25:57Speaker 1: I probably pronounced that wrong. Th heater hit Blaze of Glory.
- 26:01Speaker 1: It doesn't look like can we take open?
- 26:03Speaker 2: Can we take a poll in here? Who we think, yeah,
- 26:05Speaker 2: who put that there? Put that on there?
- 26:06Speaker 1: I thought it would have been philed, but he already
- 26:08Speaker 1: said no.
- 26:09Speaker 2: My first choice would be doctor Randall.
- 26:12Speaker 3: That's what I was going to say. Oh, could be
- 26:15Speaker 3: I feel like random might hold onto something like that.
- 26:18Speaker 3: I don't know if Randall's a big, a big, a
- 26:20Speaker 3: big heater head heater header.
- 26:23Speaker 1: Yeah, classic film, though, if anybody has a DVD player,
- 26:27Speaker 1: I think that's probably the problem these days. Uh, primost Truth,
- 26:30Speaker 1: Big bull sixteen, Go are you in this one? I
- 26:35Speaker 1: think I'm in Big Bulls seventeen because and eighteen, but
- 26:39Speaker 1: not this one.
- 26:39Speaker 3: I had to look it up.
- 26:41Speaker 2: Like the six Degrees of Kevin Bacon or whatever. That
- 26:43Speaker 2: thing is the elk shed that you had, yeah, that
- 26:48Speaker 2: you thought about bringing in, is in one of these
- 26:52Speaker 2: with you and Will Primos?
- 26:53Speaker 1: Yeah right, It would have made a preview in Big
- 26:55Speaker 1: Bulls seventeen.
- 26:56Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 26:56Speaker 1: I actually tripped over that shed when I was calling
- 26:58Speaker 1: it a bowl for Will. It almost knocked me down.
- 27:01Speaker 2: It was so big.
- 27:03Speaker 3: Uh.
- 27:03Speaker 1: There is, speaking of Primos, the terminator elk bugle sitting
- 27:07Speaker 1: up there, there's actually another bugle sitting up there right now,
- 27:10Speaker 1: there pack bugle. But this is the terminator. If anybody
- 27:12Speaker 1: ever remembers that, is it.
- 27:14Speaker 3: A built in red it's got that blue read to it.
- 27:17Speaker 1: Oh yeah, oh oh, it's not very a condition.
- 27:23Speaker 2: Look out the windo.
- 27:27Speaker 1: And Houci Mama, more primo stuff. The cow call that
- 27:32Speaker 1: ruined elk hunting?
- 27:36Speaker 3: Is there?
- 27:36Speaker 2: Some is there that the cow?
- 27:40Speaker 1: It just it's so simple to you. It's kind of
- 27:42Speaker 1: like the can. If you ever remember you can, Just
- 27:45Speaker 1: so easy to use. And then everybody started squeaking on them.
- 27:48Speaker 1: I think I have nine of these, no kidding. I
- 27:51Speaker 1: found so many of them in the woods. It's one
- 27:53Speaker 1: of those that should fit in your pocket or obviously
- 27:55Speaker 1: around your neck, and somehow it falls out of your pocket.
- 27:58Speaker 1: But I have so many of these just to the collection.
- 28:00Speaker 1: It's pretty funny. Got some musket nipples.
- 28:04Speaker 2: Oh you should see a doctor about that.
- 28:07Speaker 3: I was looking for some busket nipples.
- 28:09Speaker 2: Real.
- 28:09Speaker 3: There you go.
- 28:10Speaker 1: It's on a free table, a H and S strut striker.
- 28:13Speaker 2: Yep, turkey call the.
- 28:17Speaker 1: Half of what you need. No, no pod up, no
- 28:19Speaker 1: pot on the free table's got to be.
- 28:21Speaker 3: Oh there's a.
- 28:24Speaker 1: Rodeo rope rope and rope Garrett.
- 28:27Speaker 3: Long, Yeah, that's got to be. It's gotta be Garrett.
- 28:29Speaker 1: Yeah, I thought that was pretty cool. There was there
- 28:31Speaker 1: was a pile of them up there, and there's.
- 28:32Speaker 2: Just one left humanity. That's it.
- 28:36Speaker 1: And then it's really cool. Wicker basket.
- 28:38Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 28:39Speaker 1: I bought one of these at World Market the other day.
- 28:41Speaker 1: It was thirty bucks, So I'm what are you putting
- 28:43Speaker 1: in that?
- 28:44Speaker 4: I put it kind of looks like a turkey fan.
- 28:46Speaker 4: Oh yeah, probably could decorate that. You can put a
- 28:49Speaker 4: turkey fan on either side.
- 28:50Speaker 2: Oh, look at that.
- 28:52Speaker 3: That'd be great. Okay, you could use that as a
- 28:54Speaker 3: decoy for real.
- 28:55Speaker 1: Yep, all right, do some reaping or weather.
- 28:58Speaker 4: So yeah, if you want to get a job at
- 28:59Speaker 4: mege Q, you too could have access to all this
- 29:03Speaker 4: killer gear.
- 29:04Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 29:04Speaker 2: It'll still be there when you Yeah, because nobody wants.
- 29:08Speaker 3: Yeah, some of the stuff under underemployment perks. It says
- 29:11Speaker 3: access to the free table.
- 29:13Speaker 1: Oh yeah, you never know, though, I swear when Steve
- 29:16Speaker 1: comes in and drops off a pile of stuff.
- 29:18Speaker 3: I know it's a good day. Yeah.
- 29:20Speaker 2: He was telling the swings at the giving away a
- 29:22Speaker 2: swing set the other day that also included an in
- 29:25Speaker 2: reach right, yeah, Oh I missed that part. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 29:29Speaker 2: it was. You got to read the whole thing.
- 29:31Speaker 3: Oh I stopped at swing set. I should have slapped.
- 29:36Speaker 1: So that's what I brought in today.
- 29:38Speaker 3: Nice story.
- 29:39Speaker 4: Somehow, despite you grabbing something off the free table, still
- 29:42Speaker 4: more effort put into it than Ryan Callahan.
- 29:46Speaker 1: Thought about sharing my phone case.
- 29:49Speaker 2: Okay, Sath, what you got?
- 29:53Speaker 3: I got? I got an old Winchester rifle.
- 29:55Speaker 2: Where did you come by this unit?
- 29:57Speaker 3: So? This this was it's yeah, sorry, it's it's empty.
- 30:01Speaker 3: I figured, trust me, it's empty.
- 30:03Speaker 2: I'll just stand there.
- 30:05Speaker 3: This is a it's a Winchester Model fifty five random
- 30:10Speaker 3: serial number, built in nineteen thirty one.
- 30:12Speaker 2: Nice.
- 30:13Speaker 3: This was my great grandfather's rifle. Really, and he, from
- 30:17Speaker 3: what I hear, he bought this to feed his family
- 30:23Speaker 3: and neighbors and friends during the depression.
- 30:27Speaker 2: Was he hunting or robin folks?
- 30:29Speaker 3: He was hunting? He shot from what? I don't I
- 30:32Speaker 3: don't have an exact number, but what I'm told is
- 30:34Speaker 3: he shot a pile of deer with this.
- 30:36Speaker 2: Really, Yeah, functional can you shoot it?
- 30:40Speaker 3: Yeah you can't. I haven't shot it. Yeah, I just
- 30:42Speaker 3: recently inherited this.
- 30:44Speaker 2: You got to kill a deer with it? Man?
- 30:45Speaker 3: Yeah, I would love to kill a deer with it.
- 30:49Speaker 3: Great grandfather, great grandfather, yep. And then when he passed away,
- 30:53Speaker 3: it got handed down to my great uncle and he
- 30:56Speaker 3: had it for a while. There's actually some of his
- 30:59Speaker 3: old hunting license Pennsylvania hunting licensees in here from the eighties.
- 31:05Speaker 2: Oh man, that's really nice. That's a legacy item there.
- 31:09Speaker 3: Yeah, so it's pretty cool. It's chamberdayin it says thirty
- 31:14Speaker 3: w CF, which is thirty thirty when w CF is
- 31:19Speaker 3: Winchester Center Fire Center Fire. So yeah, that's my show
- 31:23Speaker 3: and tell item. That's a bet I like, I'd like
- 31:26Speaker 3: to take this up to southeast Alaska and shoot a
- 31:28Speaker 3: bear with it.
- 31:29Speaker 2: Oh yeah, yeah yeah. Now you're from Pennsylvania, right, Yes,
- 31:34Speaker 2: you got to go back and kill it deer now too.
- 31:36Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, that'd be cool.
- 31:38Speaker 2: Deer season is just getting ready to start out there,
- 31:40Speaker 2: isn't it.
- 31:41Speaker 3: Yeah, The archery season just started, and rightful season starts
- 31:43Speaker 3: the Saturday after Thanksgiving, which I'm going back for.
- 31:48Speaker 2: So I'm going home pretty well after we get done
- 31:52Speaker 2: here today, because tomorrow I've got to do what I
- 31:56Speaker 2: brought on a video show and tale that. Oh yeah,
- 31:59Speaker 2: me bring up here that Phil can can show us.
- 32:05Speaker 2: This was filmed last March. This is my brother Tim
- 32:11Speaker 2: and I what we like, how we like to catch
- 32:13Speaker 2: cat fish. And you can hear my brother Tim narrating
- 32:16Speaker 2: in the background.
- 32:21Speaker 1: That's a pile of cat fish.
- 32:22Speaker 2: Look at them. It surprises both.
- 32:34Speaker 3: He should narrate your film.
- 32:36Speaker 2: He should, he should narrate everything. Net we're gonna pull,
- 32:42Speaker 2: I had to say about the same amount in there,
- 32:45Speaker 2: but we'll, of course, we don't keep all. We throw
- 32:47Speaker 2: a lot of them back, but if, like if we're
- 32:49Speaker 2: doing a fish fry or something we can, we'll we'll
- 32:52Speaker 2: skin them all. And we we did for that one.
- 32:54Speaker 2: That one was our first foray into net fishing. We
- 32:59Speaker 2: both got commercial fishing licenses and we've probably caught I
- 33:05Speaker 2: don't know how many pounds of filats and we ain't
- 33:08Speaker 2: sold the first one yet. We give fish away to
- 33:11Speaker 2: friends and family, but we also eat a lot of
- 33:13Speaker 2: it too. But it's just so much fun to do that.
- 33:16Speaker 2: And that's it's a barrel net. And that net is
- 33:19Speaker 2: shaped around a roll of kind of the concrete reinforcement wire,
- 33:27Speaker 2: so it's pretty thick, you know, and you roll it
- 33:30Speaker 2: over and there's a man down in Louisiana. That makes
- 33:32Speaker 2: some force and it's welded together and then that net
- 33:35Speaker 2: is slipped over the top of it, and it's got
- 33:37Speaker 2: two throats on the inside of it where the fish
- 33:39Speaker 2: go in to go after the bait. And the bait
- 33:42Speaker 2: we use is in the shape and the size of
- 33:45Speaker 2: a block of velvet. The cheese and it's actually soybeans
- 33:49Speaker 2: and cheese mashed together in that block.
- 33:51Speaker 1: That'd be one of those catfish trying to get in there.
- 33:54Speaker 2: And you just put that in there and then and
- 33:56Speaker 2: then lay it on the bottom where you think catfish
- 33:59Speaker 2: will be and it.
- 34:01Speaker 3: Looks like it works.
- 34:02Speaker 5: Well.
- 34:02Speaker 2: Let me tell you the surprise in my brother's voice
- 34:05Speaker 2: when we pulled that first one up. It was beyond anything.
- 34:09Speaker 2: It was. It was surprised us both. And then we
- 34:12Speaker 2: had two more.
- 34:13Speaker 3: Just like, did you ever get by catch in there?
- 34:15Speaker 2: Yeah, you'll catch some some buffalo which we like to eat.
- 34:18Speaker 2: Those two in there, and we've caught turtles in there before,
- 34:21Speaker 2: and during different times of the year, like in the summertime.
- 34:25Speaker 2: You got to check them regularly. And it's about an
- 34:29Speaker 2: hour and a half from our house where we fish,
- 34:31Speaker 2: so during the wintertime, the cold months, there's more oxygen
- 34:35Speaker 2: and the fish or the survivability of them is We
- 34:38Speaker 2: had never lost any fish in there. We check them
- 34:40Speaker 2: before you're mandated to like. But he puts some nets
- 34:44Speaker 2: out Wednesday. He's back checking them today, and then when
- 34:50Speaker 2: I get home tonight in the morning, I'm want to
- 34:52Speaker 2: load the boat up. We're gonna go and run them
- 34:54Speaker 2: again cold and try to put some fish. But that's
- 34:57Speaker 2: that's our show and tell. That's it. A lot of fun,
- 35:00Speaker 2: fun way to catch him. Yeah, I'm a better barrel
- 35:05Speaker 2: net fisherman than Nyama cane cane rod fisherman. But it's
- 35:09Speaker 2: a lot of fun.
- 35:10Speaker 1: He looks like you got to figure it out.
- 35:12Speaker 2: Yeah, that's good. Those are channel cats and that's in
- 35:14Speaker 2: the Arkansas River. Oh where we where we catch those at?
- 35:18Speaker 2: Nice Phil, Yes, mister Reeves listener feedback.
- 35:24Speaker 4: Have we got any Yeah, you can't have any questions
- 35:26Speaker 4: for for Brent since he's not here very often. He
- 35:29Speaker 4: flew in just for just for you guys, So get
- 35:31Speaker 4: those questions in, but we have a few. Garrett Springer
- 35:35Speaker 4: wants to know how your your East Coast trip was
- 35:37Speaker 4: seth any highlights?
- 35:38Speaker 3: Oh yeah, it was great. Yeah, at a wedding in
- 35:42Speaker 3: the York Maine. My cousin was getting married. So we
- 35:45Speaker 3: flew into Boston and uh spend a day there checking
- 35:49Speaker 3: out all the things in Boston. Saw the tea party party,
- 35:53Speaker 3: Bunker Hill. Yeah, just hung out downtown and Paul Revere's house.
- 35:59Speaker 3: Saw that cool.
- 36:01Speaker 2: That's one part I've never been to the same. I'd
- 36:04Speaker 2: love you to.
- 36:05Speaker 3: I was impressed with Boston. I'm not a city guy,
- 36:08Speaker 3: but that city was like clean and quiet and and
- 36:12Speaker 3: was Yeah, it was like pleasant.
- 36:14Speaker 1: Are there still cobblestone streets?
- 36:17Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 36:17Speaker 4: Yeah, it's cool because you're walking through skyscrapers and all
- 36:20Speaker 4: of a sudden you'll walk upon some old building.
- 36:21Speaker 3: It's been there since like the sixteen hundred. Yeah, that's fun.
- 36:24Speaker 2: That's cool.
- 36:25Speaker 3: Yeah, go visit. So from there went up to Maine, York, Maine,
- 36:30Speaker 3: which from Boston, New York's about an hour drive and
- 36:34Speaker 3: was right on the coast there. Did the wedding thing.
- 36:37Speaker 3: Stopped at Kittery Trading Post just check that out, which
- 36:40Speaker 3: is like this big outdoor store just right there in
- 36:44Speaker 3: Maine and Kittery, Maine. They got some first light for
- 36:48Speaker 3: sale there. Nice actually hit up the they had a
- 36:52Speaker 3: big old barget been there for some fishing baits, so.
- 36:57Speaker 2: I stocked up brought some back for the free table. Buddy.
- 37:01Speaker 1: Yeah, there's as up there stuff that obviously doesn't work.
- 37:05Speaker 2: It was just the right fisherman ain't fishing with.
- 37:08Speaker 3: And then I on their way back to Boston, I
- 37:10Speaker 3: stopped in Salem, where the witch trial stuff went down. Scary.
- 37:14Speaker 3: Let me tell you, this time of year in Salem,
- 37:17Speaker 3: it's a weird place. It is a weird place. It
- 37:22Speaker 3: was cool, but very busy.
- 37:25Speaker 2: My wife, yeah, very love that spooky scary movies all that.
- 37:31Speaker 2: I'm out, bro, Yeah, I don't like none of that.
- 37:34Speaker 2: I was.
- 37:35Speaker 3: We went there with like the intentions of, you know,
- 37:39Speaker 3: seeing some historical stuff and reading some plaques that kind
- 37:41Speaker 3: of stuff, you know.
- 37:42Speaker 2: Yeah, and it was just it was a circus.
- 37:45Speaker 3: Just yeah, there was, I mean, thousands of people.
- 37:50Speaker 2: There really like witches and oh yeah really yeah.
- 37:54Speaker 1: Must be the upcoming holiday, I guess.
- 37:56Speaker 3: Yeah. I mean I thought it wouldn't have been crazy
- 37:59Speaker 3: busy being early October, but I can't imagine what it's
- 38:02Speaker 3: like on Halloween. But it was cool, extra spooky.
- 38:05Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I'm out.
- 38:07Speaker 3: All right.
- 38:07Speaker 4: Matt is looking for tips for still hunting fall black bears.
- 38:11Speaker 4: Pennsylvania doesn't allow bating, and I finally found a spot
- 38:13Speaker 4: with some bear trails. How do you know you're in
- 38:15Speaker 4: the right place at the right time.
- 38:16Speaker 2: Mmmmm, Well you can look for bear scat yep, and
- 38:22Speaker 2: the fresher obviously the better, and find out what I mean,
- 38:26Speaker 2: find out what they're feeding on this time of year.
- 38:28Speaker 2: I know in Arkansas now it's it's acorns.
- 38:30Speaker 3: Yeah, an, that's all I was gonna say, acorn flats
- 38:34Speaker 3: or you know, anywhere where there's a bunch of white
- 38:36Speaker 3: oaks still on through that, especially like white oak stuff
- 38:40Speaker 3: adjacent to thick mountain Laurel or you know, good cover,
- 38:45Speaker 3: the wind yep, get the wind right, just slip through
- 38:48Speaker 3: the woods quietly. It's nice to if you're gonna do
- 38:51Speaker 3: that in Pa where there's a bunch of leaf duff
- 38:53Speaker 3: on the ground, try and pick times where it's like wet, damp,
- 38:58Speaker 3: rainy you through quietly.
- 39:01Speaker 2: I know that when this last, this last bear season
- 39:06Speaker 2: in Arkansas, Bear John was hunting on public land and
- 39:11Speaker 2: he was still hunting like that, and he was you
- 39:13Speaker 2: got to look up in the trees too, because the
- 39:15Speaker 2: first bear that he encountered was already up in a
- 39:17Speaker 2: tree knocking acrons out.
- 39:19Speaker 1: Oh really that's cool.
- 39:20Speaker 2: Wow, So I had something to keep in mind when
- 39:22Speaker 2: you're slipping around. Good luck.
- 39:25Speaker 4: Leland is like, I'm gonna pose this to seth but
- 39:28Speaker 4: open field. Best practical use for fox? First, do you
- 39:32Speaker 4: have a lot of experience do anything with fox?
- 39:34Speaker 2: Socks fox, fox, sox, fox and socks?
- 39:38Speaker 3: H All, My I have foxes just hanging up in
- 39:42Speaker 3: in my house. They're just pretty red foxes. And I
- 39:46Speaker 3: have a great fox too hanging up. But I mean
- 39:50Speaker 3: you they're they make like a nice red fox makes
- 39:56Speaker 3: pretty cool trim around like a coat, a coat, a
- 39:59Speaker 3: coat hood or something like that or collar. Yeah, but
- 40:03Speaker 3: you can kind of do whatever you want with them.
- 40:06Speaker 7: Really, yeah, I just like the natural pelt hanging up
- 40:08Speaker 7: like yeah, yeah, scarf maybe scarf fox, scarf, blindfold, blindfold.
- 40:16Speaker 2: Sure, it's all good.
- 40:23Speaker 3: Let's see here we have.
- 40:25Speaker 4: There's a lot of questions a fe you, Brent, just
- 40:27Speaker 4: they want more details about your trip in Manitoba. Steven
- 40:31Speaker 4: asks for just like a specific highlight the best part
- 40:33Speaker 4: that's his his dream hunt, and then Al asked specifically
- 40:38Speaker 4: about the landscape. Some major differences about other places you've
- 40:41Speaker 4: been or what you're used to. Would you like would
- 40:43Speaker 4: you dislike.
- 40:44Speaker 2: The high I tell you the the thing that was
- 40:47Speaker 2: hardest to get used to is walking on that spongy ground,
- 40:51Speaker 2: the smile on my back. It took me about two
- 40:53Speaker 2: or three days to get acclimated to that. And just
- 40:56Speaker 2: because it's not you think it's easy, like walking on
- 40:59Speaker 2: big shag car marpet, but it'll if you're not used
- 41:01Speaker 2: to it, it's it'll it'll play on the smaller back
- 41:04Speaker 2: a little bit. But the landscape was similar. The trees
- 41:08Speaker 2: were shorter, I think than than where I was at
- 41:11Speaker 2: in Saskatchewan bear hunting or filming for play several years ago,
- 41:16Speaker 2: back in the Bear Hunting magazine days. So we were
- 41:19Speaker 2: a little farther north on this hunt. But the uh,
- 41:23Speaker 2: the high light I think would probably be after we
- 41:28Speaker 2: killed that moose. We had it all loaded in the boat.
- 41:31Speaker 2: Craig was obviously driving the motor, and Dave Gardner, our cameraman,
- 41:36Speaker 2: was sitting beside me, and the moose was all in
- 41:38Speaker 2: the front and we had headlights to drive by, but
- 41:42Speaker 2: it was it was kind of dusky dark and the
- 41:44Speaker 2: sun wasn't up, but you could kind of still see
- 41:46Speaker 2: a little bit, and the Northern lights were on top
- 41:49Speaker 2: of us, so we turned our lights out and actually
- 41:52Speaker 2: drove back to camp in that boat with that load
- 41:55Speaker 2: of moss by the by the Northern lights, and they
- 42:00Speaker 2: took a picture and you can see the silhouette of
- 42:03Speaker 2: the elk antlers in the front of the boat and
- 42:06Speaker 2: I'm sorry, the moose antlers in front of the boat,
- 42:09Speaker 2: and then the lights and it was just, yeah, it
- 42:14Speaker 2: was that would be probably the highlight.
- 42:17Speaker 3: Is there grizzly bears up in that country? No?
- 42:20Speaker 2: About now, we were like, we wasn't that far from Churchill.
- 42:26Speaker 2: I'm not going to say the mileage, but it was
- 42:29Speaker 2: just a little over one hundred miles from Churchill where
- 42:32Speaker 2: they have those polar bear yeah expeditions or whatever. And
- 42:38Speaker 2: there wasn't any seals there. But I even said that
- 42:41Speaker 2: in the podcast there wasn't a fence to keep them
- 42:44Speaker 2: from coming down there to see what a moose takes
- 42:46Speaker 2: or a guy from Arkansas either, But we didn't see any.
- 42:49Speaker 2: And there's black bears there, but we didn't see any.
- 42:52Speaker 2: So all wolf had an opportunity at a wolf had
- 42:56Speaker 2: a good opportunity at a wolf. I've heard that before
- 42:59Speaker 2: and it stay. It's still it's still was an opportunity
- 43:04Speaker 2: a wolf and I absolutely missed him.
- 43:06Speaker 1: Oh it was terrible, sounds like an adventure.
- 43:10Speaker 2: It was.
- 43:11Speaker 3: It is what it is.
- 43:12Speaker 2: Luckily the most is a lot bigger. I hit him.
- 43:16Speaker 4: All right, I'll do one more quick one before we
- 43:18Speaker 4: move on to the next segment. But people are asking
- 43:20Speaker 4: how the buck Hunter trip was that random?
- 43:21Speaker 3: And I went on it. It was a lot of fun.
- 43:24Speaker 3: It was so it was so much fun.
- 43:25Speaker 4: We got a lot of footage I need to start
- 43:26Speaker 4: sifting through and we're gonna put together a little video
- 43:28Speaker 4: that's mostly about Randall and his journey competing in the
- 43:32Speaker 4: Big Buck Hunter Amateur Open tournament. But we also we
- 43:36Speaker 4: got an interview with the creator of the game, which
- 43:39Speaker 4: is I mean, he was an awesome guy. The community
- 43:41Speaker 4: there it was unbelievable, like everyone like they're playing for
- 43:44Speaker 4: real money, but everyone's just having a blast, you know.
- 43:47Speaker 4: It was it was a really cool environment, a lot
- 43:49Speaker 4: of stimuli, just surrounded by arcade games and loud music
- 43:52Speaker 4: for for ten hours a day.
- 43:54Speaker 3: But it was It was a lot of fun. So
- 43:56Speaker 3: is the guy who made Big Buck Hunter? Is he
- 44:00Speaker 3: a real big Buck hunter. Uh no, he is not.
- 44:05Speaker 4: But there were a lot of people there who were
- 44:08Speaker 4: real hunters. A few of their pictures there were gripping grins,
- 44:11Speaker 4: and that was my question.
- 44:13Speaker 2: Yeah, well, what was the percentage of hunters there to
- 44:16Speaker 2: just game players?
- 44:17Speaker 3: It was hard to say. I mean, we didn't interview everybody.
- 44:20Speaker 4: There were one hundred and twenty eight players, but but man,
- 44:24Speaker 4: all the best players lived in like the middle of
- 44:26Speaker 4: nowhere in Saskatchewan. So we kind of just assumed that
- 44:28Speaker 4: those people probably do some real hunting.
- 44:31Speaker 3: But I don't know.
- 44:33Speaker 4: I'd say it was probably around like twenty percent hunters
- 44:36Speaker 4: eighty nine hunters. Yeah, so they're they're scattered in there.
- 44:38Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 44:39Speaker 1: I can't wait to watch.
- 44:40Speaker 2: It's gonna be fun.
- 44:41Speaker 3: All right.
- 44:42Speaker 2: Our next segment is called craig Listing, and Corey kind
- 44:47Speaker 2: of pulled this rabbit out of his hat, or was
- 44:50Speaker 2: a good one. I know that any other orifice you
- 44:52Speaker 2: can name.
- 44:54Speaker 3: And that hat is my favorite.
- 44:56Speaker 2: That is probably the best thing. And so what we
- 45:00Speaker 2: did was Corey Seth and I last night. Our homework
- 45:05Speaker 2: was to find something unique on a craigs list somewhere
- 45:09Speaker 2: in the US, and we did that and got some
- 45:12Speaker 2: screenshots of it. We're going to show and Corey, you're
- 45:15Speaker 2: you're on, you're in the box man. Okay, what'd you find?
- 45:17Speaker 3: Phil?
- 45:18Speaker 1: Which one you got first? There doesn't matter, I'll pull
- 45:20Speaker 1: it up here. I'm going to share two of them
- 45:23Speaker 1: just because they're so so great.
- 45:24Speaker 3: It was fun.
- 45:26Speaker 1: Corey, Yep, I definitely went down the Craigslist rabbit hole
- 45:29Speaker 1: last night with a couple of whiskeys.
- 45:31Speaker 3: Uh.
- 45:31Speaker 1: This one's just funny because it's I can't really tell
- 45:34Speaker 1: what they're selling, but it's titled hunting smoke pole.
- 45:38Speaker 3: Smoke pole with cope mountain.
- 45:40Speaker 1: Obviously a rifle, yeah, because that's what I call a gun,
- 45:44Speaker 1: is a smoke pole. Got a picture of a dandy
- 45:46Speaker 1: white tail buck on a tailgate there, but there's no
- 45:49Speaker 1: picture or anything of.
- 45:50Speaker 3: Oh it's a tradition's buckstock, Okay, traditions buck stalker.
- 45:55Speaker 1: Yeah, be great to have a photo of that. I
- 45:57Speaker 1: feel like, if you're trying to sell something, look what
- 45:58Speaker 1: it does.
- 46:00Speaker 3: Showing you the results.
- 46:01Speaker 2: Yes, yeah, it will make a deer lay down in
- 46:03Speaker 2: the back.
- 46:03Speaker 3: Fifty caliber size size fifty. Yeah.
- 46:07Speaker 1: Oh that's everything you need.
- 46:08Speaker 3: A condition excellent, We'll take his word for it.
- 46:11Speaker 1: Yeah, but a smoke pole, three hundred and twenty five bucks. Yeah,
- 46:15Speaker 1: that was uh somewhere between West Virginia and East Virginia.
- 46:20Speaker 1: Okay from somebody from Montana.
- 46:22Speaker 2: Doesn't know.
- 46:23Speaker 1: That was great though, Okay, and then this one really
- 46:26Speaker 1: caught my eye. It's advertised as a hunting blind or
- 46:30Speaker 1: an extra at the pool, but it's a porta potty.
- 46:34Speaker 2: We're there, phones, don't fall in, don't.
- 46:40Speaker 1: Fall in, hunting blind extra at the pool, guests who
- 46:43Speaker 1: are messy for businesses. I'm not sure what kind of business.
- 46:46Speaker 2: It's a weird post to do your business. Never used.
- 46:49Speaker 1: I mean it does look very clean on the inside.
- 46:52Speaker 3: Uh.
- 46:52Speaker 1: This was in Florida, which that was the first place
- 46:56Speaker 1: I looked for funny hunting Craigslist ad right, I'm not
- 47:00Speaker 1: sure why, but it says it's ready to go, never used, clean,
- 47:04Speaker 1: never used, but it's been cleaned out.
- 47:06Speaker 3: So never used for relieving yourself or never used for hunting.
- 47:10Speaker 2: There you go, Well, grammar matters, I do.
- 47:15Speaker 1: I would love to see this in the woods and
- 47:16Speaker 1: all of sudden you just throw open the door and pow.
- 47:21Speaker 2: And in both directions.
- 47:24Speaker 1: So that was random obviously pretty good stuff.
- 47:27Speaker 2: All right, seth, what do you get, buddy.
- 47:31Speaker 3: Let's see, I don't remember which one you use. That
- 47:32Speaker 3: mine's the farmhouse with acre there it is farmhouse with
- 47:38Speaker 3: acre thirty nine dollars, which I felt was fair m anyway,
- 47:47Speaker 3: the description is what kind of attracted me to this
- 47:50Speaker 3: post old fashioned farmhouse high in the private mountain side,
- 47:55Speaker 3: West Virginia. Need work as is? And now this is
- 47:59Speaker 3: confus using it I read. I read this as uh
- 48:03Speaker 3: four feet two inches by appointment only, No r t O.
- 48:11Speaker 3: I don't know what that is? Cash only, must sell quickly.
- 48:14Speaker 3: My loss is your gain near Rock, West Virginia. Great
- 48:19Speaker 3: hunting spot and four wheel trails, cool selling, baker selling point.
- 48:25Speaker 3: Oh this this here, grab my attention. It says country
- 48:29Speaker 3: road take me.
- 48:30Speaker 2: Home, all right, that'll make a great song.
- 48:33Speaker 3: And then he reiterates again it needs work, and it
- 48:40Speaker 3: says again it needs work and a handyman dream as is.
- 48:47Speaker 3: Seriously interested buyers only?
- 48:51Speaker 2: What's rto stand for?
- 48:53Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 48:53Speaker 2: You can't have any of that thing.
- 48:54Speaker 3: People with more craiglist experience that No r t O.
- 48:59Speaker 2: What is rto stand for?
- 49:00Speaker 3: Return return to.
- 49:01Speaker 1: Off, recovery time objective?
- 49:05Speaker 2: Oh yeah, that sounds good.
- 49:07Speaker 3: I don't know, but the where he says, well, hunting property.
- 49:11Speaker 3: I like that, and then he adds country road take
- 49:13Speaker 3: me home, yes, lovely.
- 49:16Speaker 2: Yeah, that's like that's marketing right there. I like it.
- 49:20Speaker 1: It does sound like a dream.
- 49:24Speaker 3: Handyman dream.
- 49:25Speaker 2: Yeah. I'm not a handyman. I don't like to do
- 49:27Speaker 2: that stuff. But there are handyman. Yes.
- 49:30Speaker 3: But if you want a great hunting spot farmhouse with acre,
- 49:36Speaker 3: I don't know if you meant to say acres are
- 49:38Speaker 3: not it's there's no the acres are not listed here.
- 49:43Speaker 3: So you know the chat.
- 49:44Speaker 4: The chat's yelling at all of us, mostly me because
- 49:46Speaker 4: I wasn't reading it. It means rent to own, no,
- 49:51Speaker 4: rent to own.
- 49:51Speaker 1: All right, all right, this guy sounds like he's in
- 49:54Speaker 1: a pickle and he needs cash now.
- 49:55Speaker 2: Oh yeah, yeah, it's his money. He needs cash now,
- 49:59Speaker 2: he needs yeah, called went with all this is, uh,
- 50:03Speaker 2: this is what I found. My first perusal last night
- 50:09Speaker 2: was oh yeah, now this is in Council Bluffs, near
- 50:13Speaker 2: Council Bluffs, Iowa. Oh man, this guy, it's fifty percent
- 50:18Speaker 2: off all of this stuff that you're seeing. And and
- 50:22Speaker 2: I highlighted two things. That big old pike right there
- 50:25Speaker 2: with a that's a jack of diamonds spoon bait hanging
- 50:30Speaker 2: out of his mouth. Now that is that is in Canada.
- 50:33Speaker 2: That's like the Gordon Lightfoot of fishing baits. Yep, you
- 50:36Speaker 2: can catch everything.
- 50:37Speaker 3: That's called millions of pike.
- 50:39Speaker 2: You can catch anything on there except pneumonia. I mean
- 50:43Speaker 2: it is. That's what we fished with when I was
- 50:45Speaker 2: bear hunting up there. That's what we fished wished when
- 50:48Speaker 2: I was with Craig two weeks ago when we caught
- 50:52Speaker 2: some pike and walleye. And so if you can't catch
- 50:56Speaker 2: a fish, you can buy one and hang on your
- 50:59Speaker 2: wall and x thing, which is not going to be
- 51:02Speaker 2: that big of a deal to y'all, but the folks
- 51:04Speaker 2: that know me. I first thought that was for like
- 51:08Speaker 2: twin papooses, that you'd put that in babies on your back.
- 51:13Speaker 2: But that's snow shoes. That is foreign to me. Yeah,
- 51:19Speaker 2: but they're made out of wood, and I thought it
- 51:21Speaker 2: was really cool, and that'd be cool hanging up in
- 51:23Speaker 2: a hunting cabin or wearing them because it's snowing outside
- 51:27Speaker 2: right now. But anyway, Council Bluffs, Iowa, everything is fifty
- 51:31Speaker 2: percent off. You're actually losing money by not going to
- 51:34Speaker 2: buy this stuff. You don't want to lose money?
- 51:37Speaker 3: Now does he does he say how much each item
- 51:39Speaker 3: is or just everything's.
- 51:43Speaker 2: You just? I mean, I mean, what are the what
- 51:45Speaker 2: the would you need? That seems to lure my wife
- 51:48Speaker 2: into every shoe store.
- 51:50Speaker 3: Bogo, that's what got me in that uh that fishing
- 51:53Speaker 3: Bend Kittery trading post.
- 51:56Speaker 2: You just start picking up stuff. So anyway, pretty cool
- 51:59Speaker 2: Craigslist times. You can find everything on there. He was
- 52:01Speaker 2: also selling the washer and dryer in there, but oh really,
- 52:04Speaker 2: I was more impressed with that dead fish and the snow.
- 52:07Speaker 1: Shoes fifty percent off. He could get the washer for free.
- 52:10Speaker 2: It's like, oh yeah, well you're you're you're going to
- 52:13Speaker 2: paying for one snowshoe right left right now that comes in.
- 52:17Speaker 3: You can probably turn those around make a profit.
- 52:19Speaker 2: I like it. I like it.
- 52:23Speaker 3: Now.
- 52:23Speaker 2: The next folks, we're ready to go to on r
- 52:27Speaker 2: we Phil. Yeah, I want to talk with my friends
- 52:31Speaker 2: from Case Knives, John Pantusso and Tom Taylor. They were
- 52:37Speaker 2: the folks that reached out to me at first when
- 52:39Speaker 2: I first did a podcast and just organically mentioned Case Knives,
- 52:43Speaker 2: and these guys have been they come on as the
- 52:46Speaker 2: whole as a sponsor for the show, but they've become
- 52:50Speaker 2: dear friends of mine and my families. We've been out
- 52:52Speaker 2: there to visit with them and talk to them. And
- 52:54Speaker 2: I talked to these guys almost daily, but absolutely weakly,
- 53:00Speaker 2: and they're just they couldn't be better. I've been on
- 53:02Speaker 2: some events with them and been to shows that were
- 53:07Speaker 2: sponsored by CASE and it's just a it's a big
- 53:10Speaker 2: family group of folks and I just absolutely love it.
- 53:14Speaker 2: And they're from your neck of the woods, Pennsylvania, but
- 53:17Speaker 2: in Bradford, Pennsylvania coming to us live. There is Tom
- 53:22Speaker 2: Taylor on the right and the t move Josh Allen
- 53:25Speaker 2: on the left. That is John Tusa.
- 53:29Speaker 1: Hello, boys, Hey, thanks, hey guys, thanks for having us.
- 53:33Speaker 6: I was I was wondering how long it was going
- 53:35Speaker 6: to take you to crack that one. Brandon oh Man, Yeah,
- 53:37Speaker 6: thank you, thank you guys for having here.
- 53:40Speaker 2: I've been sitting on that one just waiting then waiting.
- 53:43Speaker 2: But you could absolutely do stunts for that guy, especially
- 53:48Speaker 2: before you got your haircut. But you guys are out
- 53:51Speaker 2: in Bradford, Pennsylvania. Case nows they're making pocket knives for
- 53:56Speaker 2: one hundred and how many years now? One hundred and
- 54:00Speaker 2: thirty six, one hundred and thirty six years. Yeow. We
- 54:04Speaker 2: went out there last summer summer or last year, Alexis
- 54:10Speaker 2: and Bailey and I went out. They invited us to
- 54:12Speaker 2: come out for a Maiden Bradford event that they have
- 54:16Speaker 2: out there, and they took us on a tour of
- 54:20Speaker 2: the where they make all the knives, and a case
- 54:22Speaker 2: pocket knife that I towed in my pocket goes through
- 54:26Speaker 2: like one hundred and sixty seven steps from the time
- 54:29Speaker 2: the raw materials come in there till that knife goes
- 54:32Speaker 2: out the door. And there's all the people that work
- 54:35Speaker 2: in there, and they got a hue mangous American flag
- 54:38Speaker 2: in the background on it. And when I was in there,
- 54:41Speaker 2: I asked the guy who was giving me the tour,
- 54:45Speaker 2: Tony Defaisio, who was an engineer. Is that right engineer
- 54:49Speaker 2: with case? He was giving us the tour, And I
- 54:52Speaker 2: asked him if I could film in there, you know,
- 54:53Speaker 2: for like social media stuff, and he said, yeah, man,
- 54:56Speaker 2: you film anything you want to. He said, but make
- 54:58Speaker 2: sure you get that big America flag that's hanging on
- 55:01Speaker 2: the wall back there, because we're really proud of that.
- 55:05Speaker 2: I'm just proud to be here and connected with y'all
- 55:08Speaker 2: associated with you. Tell me what y'all got going on
- 55:12Speaker 2: that's new out in case right now.
- 55:15Speaker 8: Well, I was just looking on Craigs. Let's try to
- 55:18Speaker 8: buy that hunting blind. But seriously, we've got a lot
- 55:25Speaker 8: of good stuff going on. We just launched a cool
- 55:28Speaker 8: new product, the Crossroads Barlow with our hunting hunting season
- 55:31Speaker 8: around here, so making sure all our partners have the
- 55:34Speaker 8: right hunting knives.
- 55:35Speaker 6: I know our dads are always asking.
- 55:38Speaker 2: Us, you know, for new equipment to use.
- 55:41Speaker 6: But yeah, yeah, and obviously, like you know, Christmas is
- 55:45Speaker 6: already around the corner.
- 55:46Speaker 1: Right so the gift giving season.
- 55:48Speaker 6: I mean, who doesn't love getting a knife as a present,
- 55:51Speaker 6: you know, And it's our product, especially like Brenton, you
- 55:54Speaker 6: can attest to this. It's it's generational, right so you know,
- 55:57Speaker 6: you got dads buying knives for their sons and so
- 56:00Speaker 6: on and so forth. So this is this is our
- 56:03Speaker 6: kind of a busy season right now.
- 56:04Speaker 2: But we love it.
- 56:05Speaker 1: We can sell knives every day.
- 56:06Speaker 2: It's great. Well I'm happy to report that they were
- 56:10Speaker 2: at once sold out about a month ago, but they're
- 56:14Speaker 2: back in stock now. My the Brent Reeves Signature case
- 56:18Speaker 2: Mini Trapper is back in stock here at at in
- 56:21Speaker 2: the Mediator on the online store, and they'll be getting
- 56:23Speaker 2: them in the Bozeman store here in the next couple
- 56:26Speaker 2: of days, a few days, but you can get them
- 56:28Speaker 2: now on the on the store. And that is an incredible,
- 56:33Speaker 2: uh tribute to my family, not to me, but to
- 56:36Speaker 2: my family's relationship with case knives and now the relationship
- 56:41Speaker 2: that we have with the folks that make them. And
- 56:44Speaker 2: I just couldn't be more proud to call you guys
- 56:48Speaker 2: friends first of all, and and business partners secondly. So
- 56:53Speaker 2: it's just I appreciate it so much. I know that
- 56:56Speaker 2: I know that we have a text thread, these two
- 56:59Speaker 2: guys right here and me and my wife have a
- 57:02Speaker 2: text three.
- 57:04Speaker 6: It goes back, shout out to Eles, give a shout out.
- 57:09Speaker 2: There goes on periodically and we we have a we
- 57:14Speaker 2: have a good time.
- 57:15Speaker 1: Uh.
- 57:16Speaker 2: The Barlow, y'all just came back out. Tell us about
- 57:19Speaker 2: the Barlow and the history of the of the Barlow
- 57:22Speaker 2: and how that's the Barlow pocket knife, which should be
- 57:25Speaker 2: common knowledge to folks probably my age and older. And
- 57:27Speaker 2: it maybe y'all may not know what I'm talking about,
- 57:29Speaker 2: but tell us about the Barlow knife.
- 57:33Speaker 6: So the Barlow we we call like the knife, the
- 57:36Speaker 6: Barlow is a pattern, right, so like the trappers a pattern,
- 57:38Speaker 6: many trappers of pattern, the Barlow is probably one of
- 57:41Speaker 6: the oldest jackknife patterns. You know that even predates case, right,
- 57:46Speaker 6: and so everybody knows. You know, our product we make
- 57:50Speaker 6: pin together with the bone handles, brass liners, we used
- 57:55Speaker 6: stainless carbon steel. But recently last year we started a
- 57:59Speaker 6: new product line, the Crossroads, and so now we're reintroducing
- 58:03Speaker 6: the Barlow pattern with sort of like a modern touch
- 58:06Speaker 6: to it. So it's it's screwed together kind of like
- 58:09Speaker 6: a modern flipper would be, and it's got some more
- 58:12Speaker 6: modern materials, like the handles are rich light and G ten,
- 58:14Speaker 6: so they're super light, and they're they're pretty strong and
- 58:17Speaker 6: durable as well. And it's an upgraded steal too, so
- 58:19Speaker 6: it's S thirty five m, so it's got super good
- 58:21Speaker 6: edge retention, GROSI and resistance. And it doesn't take away
- 58:26Speaker 6: from what we what our bread and butter is, which
- 58:28Speaker 6: is you know, your your favorite the mini trapper with
- 58:32Speaker 6: the bone handles, and we were always going to do that,
- 58:33Speaker 6: but this just gives us sort of a different product
- 58:36Speaker 6: offering for those that are looking to carry a pocket
- 58:39Speaker 6: slip joint, but with something that's a little bit more modern.
- 58:42Speaker 8: Yeah, our slip joints will be around forever, but just
- 58:44Speaker 8: putting a modern span on a traditional pattern, keeping that
- 58:47Speaker 8: heritage of the one hundred and thirty six years, but
- 58:49Speaker 8: you know, just bringing it into you know, twenty twenty six.
- 58:55Speaker 1: Absolutely it's a beautiful knife.
- 58:57Speaker 3: Yeah. I got question for you guys, like how many
- 59:05Speaker 3: different knives do you like? Different styles of knives do
- 59:07Speaker 3: you make? Oh?
- 59:11Speaker 2: A lot.
- 59:12Speaker 8: I think there's I think it's in the twenty that
- 59:14Speaker 8: we call them patterns. So there's twenty twenty two different
- 59:17Speaker 8: patterns we make of flip joints, and then we've got
- 59:20Speaker 8: fixed blades.
- 59:20Speaker 6: We've got some modern flippers.
- 59:25Speaker 8: If you walk through that factory, I think it'd be
- 59:27Speaker 8: amazed that not only the people that are working there,
- 59:30Speaker 8: but just the operation and the amount of intricacies that
- 59:34Speaker 8: go into every single different knife.
- 59:36Speaker 6: Yeah, it's pretty crazy, I think, like with all the
- 59:38Speaker 6: different because we love using natural materials, so so bone
- 59:42Speaker 6: we use from a zebu cattle from South America, So
- 59:46Speaker 6: we use that bone on quite a bit of our stuff.
- 59:48Speaker 6: We like using woods as well, buffalo horn, buffalo horn,
- 59:52Speaker 6: and we've done a lot of other avalon a lot
- 59:54Speaker 6: of other really like pretty natural materials. So I mean
- 59:57Speaker 6: with all the different bone die and variations we do,
- 59:59Speaker 6: there's probably what like six to seven hundred different individual
- 1:00:03Speaker 6: skews that we made.
- 1:00:05Speaker 3: Yeah, and like you mentioned that Barlow was that predates case.
- 1:00:09Speaker 3: But like how many patterns or whatever you want to
- 1:00:13Speaker 3: call them, or or did like case come up with?
- 1:00:17Speaker 8: Oh, I don't know what exact number, but there's a
- 1:00:20Speaker 8: lot of them, just like the copper lock, the Sidebuster,
- 1:00:25Speaker 8: Sidebuster Junior, the rust lock. Yeah, there's definitely patterns specific
- 1:00:30Speaker 8: the case that are trademarked.
- 1:00:32Speaker 3: Nice.
- 1:00:34Speaker 2: I know that you mentioned about walking in how incredible
- 1:00:38Speaker 2: it is to walk in and see all the different
- 1:00:40Speaker 2: knives in the factory. And I was like my wife
- 1:00:43Speaker 2: Alexison hobby lobby. I had to touch everything in there.
- 1:00:46Speaker 2: I couldn't go buy a shelf with that laying my
- 1:00:49Speaker 2: hands on it. It was. It was absolutely incredable.
- 1:00:52Speaker 8: We had a guy following Brent taking the fingerprints off.
- 1:00:55Speaker 2: They waved me on the way in and wighed me
- 1:00:57Speaker 2: on the way out make sure I did and stiff
- 1:00:59Speaker 2: sticking my pocket. It's full, but there was the people
- 1:01:02Speaker 2: was really was what was really heartfelt. And I met
- 1:01:06Speaker 2: a man in there, and I talked about this on
- 1:01:08Speaker 2: the on the podcast, I tell a real quick story.
- 1:01:12Speaker 2: When they invited us to come out, I wanted to
- 1:01:14Speaker 2: take some knives out there that was special to me.
- 1:01:16Speaker 2: So I took the first knife that John sent me
- 1:01:19Speaker 2: in the mail for the just like, hey, we appreciate
- 1:01:22Speaker 2: what you said about our knives. So I took that knife,
- 1:01:25Speaker 2: and then I took one that I bought for my
- 1:01:27Speaker 2: dad when I was fourteen, and I got that got
- 1:01:30Speaker 2: that knife back after he passed away. So I carried
- 1:01:33Speaker 2: that knife and we went in the factory and the
- 1:01:34Speaker 2: first guy that they introduced us to that's working, and
- 1:01:37Speaker 2: there's a man by the name mister Dave Jackson. I
- 1:01:39Speaker 2: think he worked like fifty three years, and at that
- 1:01:42Speaker 2: time he had worked like fifty one years. So I
- 1:01:45Speaker 2: was talking to introduce me to him. I was thinking.
- 1:01:47Speaker 2: I started doing a little math in my head and
- 1:01:49Speaker 2: I pulled that knife out of my pocket. And on
- 1:01:52Speaker 2: case knife, there's a you open up the blade on
- 1:01:55Speaker 2: the tang, which is right next to where it clips
- 1:01:58Speaker 2: into the into the knife itself. There's always codes and
- 1:02:02Speaker 2: dots on there that you can tell from what when
- 1:02:05Speaker 2: that knife was made on there if you have a
- 1:02:07Speaker 2: key to it. So I handed I pulled that knife
- 1:02:10Speaker 2: out of my pocket and I handed it to mister Jackson.
- 1:02:12Speaker 2: I said, would you have worked on his knife? And
- 1:02:15Speaker 2: he pulled it, opened it up and handed it and said,
- 1:02:17Speaker 2: oh yeah, I worked on that knife and handed it
- 1:02:19Speaker 2: back to me. And it was really cool to be
- 1:02:22Speaker 2: there and talk with the man that built the knife
- 1:02:25Speaker 2: that I gave to my dad, the first knife I
- 1:02:27Speaker 2: ever bought. I gave it to him and then I
- 1:02:30Speaker 2: got that knife back and to take it that on
- 1:02:32Speaker 2: that that's cool. Big circle of taking it back out
- 1:02:36Speaker 2: there was really cool. And he went there. I talked
- 1:02:38Speaker 2: to several folks man and been working there like thirty years,
- 1:02:42Speaker 2: over thirty years and generational employees. It truly is one
- 1:02:46Speaker 2: big family out there.
- 1:02:48Speaker 3: That's cool.
- 1:02:48Speaker 2: It's really cool.
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: Yeah, they're beautiful knives. My son Marshall has a knife
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: that his grandfather gave him and Marshall always asked about
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: It's a case knife. I couldn't tell you which model
- 1:02:59Speaker 1: it is, but it says grandfather and grandson on it,
- 1:03:02Speaker 1: and that'll be his first tont knife. Hopefully in about
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: three years when we get to go deer hunting, he'll
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: get to break that out. He asked about it all
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: the time.
- 1:03:09Speaker 2: Nice, beautiful, It's awesome, man, it's good stuff. Well, I
- 1:03:14Speaker 2: certainly appreciate, Uh, you guys being on here. Anything else
- 1:03:19Speaker 2: we need to cover before we move along? You guys
- 1:03:23Speaker 2: got anything?
- 1:03:26Speaker 6: Oh, Brett, how did you like?
- 1:03:27Speaker 5: I do got to ask?
- 1:03:28Speaker 6: How how did you like that that ridge back when
- 1:03:31Speaker 6: you were processing that moose.
- 1:03:33Speaker 2: Up in Canada? Man, let me tell you. You see
- 1:03:36Speaker 2: the pictures of that. Yeah, I'm gonna put those pictures
- 1:03:38Speaker 2: up on my Instagram so folks can see it.
- 1:03:41Speaker 5: It was.
- 1:03:43Speaker 2: The first thing is I don't know why we didn't
- 1:03:45Speaker 2: call that knife the razorback. But after that being said,
- 1:03:51Speaker 2: that being said, Craig was very impressed with that, with
- 1:03:55Speaker 2: that knife, and Dave Gardner as well, and Dave, I
- 1:03:58Speaker 2: don't know how many moosies, but he scanned a lot
- 1:04:01Speaker 2: of elk, but uh, they were very impressed. We I went,
- 1:04:05Speaker 2: we went through that whole moose and I didn't have
- 1:04:07Speaker 2: to sharpen it. After all, we were cutting meat on it,
- 1:04:10Speaker 2: cutting meat up on it the third day and I
- 1:04:13Speaker 2: finally put it on a wet rock. But it was
- 1:04:15Speaker 2: really good, really held the edge and really easy to use.
- 1:04:20Speaker 2: And uh, yeah, I loved it. But I'm I'm saying,
- 1:04:24Speaker 2: you know, razorback Ridge back I could have. I think
- 1:04:28Speaker 2: I think we missed the opportunity there. We can do that,
- 1:04:34Speaker 2: all right. Thank you, guys. I appreciate you so much,
- 1:04:37Speaker 2: and uh look forward to talking to you probably before
- 1:04:41Speaker 2: I get home today.
- 1:04:44Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, thank you, guys, appreciate it.
- 1:04:46Speaker 2: Take thank you. Oh man. Those dudes they're they're great
- 1:04:51Speaker 2: people there, and they're they're a lot of fun, a
- 1:04:53Speaker 2: lot of fun. If we got any more listening.
- 1:04:58Speaker 3: Uh this is from you. Guys. Have a favorite headlamp
- 1:05:02Speaker 3: anything you want to?
- 1:05:04Speaker 2: I do?
- 1:05:05Speaker 3: Yeah, I have it, Brenton, I do.
- 1:05:06Speaker 2: I've got my friend Michael Roseman makes sunspot lights all
- 1:05:10Speaker 2: coon oat lights, and Steve loves him as well, but
- 1:05:15Speaker 2: he also makes one called a ben Oak light and
- 1:05:18Speaker 2: it's like a head just just got the straps of
- 1:05:21Speaker 2: going your nagin instead of having the the you know,
- 1:05:24Speaker 2: the helmets. Yeah, and I actually used it up in
- 1:05:30Speaker 2: Manitoba on that moose hunt. And I'll put some pictures
- 1:05:33Speaker 2: in up there. That's that's my favorite. You can get
- 1:05:35Speaker 2: them from uh sunspot hunting lights dot com. I think
- 1:05:39Speaker 2: it is.
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: We had him at the Mediator store for a hot minute,
- 1:05:41Speaker 1: but I don't know if we do anymore. That might
- 1:05:43Speaker 1: be my favorite headlamp too, because I was bear hunting
- 1:05:46Speaker 1: black bear hunting in Montana with Clay and his son
- 1:05:48Speaker 1: Bear John, and we had a grizzly bear that I
- 1:05:50Speaker 1: had bumped three times and she seemed like she was
- 1:05:53Speaker 1: just kind of hanging around us. Plus we had a
- 1:05:54Speaker 1: dead bear on the back of our backs right And
- 1:05:57Speaker 1: when the sun went down, my little black diamond head
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: lamp was doing great at least being able to see
- 1:06:02Speaker 1: one step ahead. But then Claybow broke out that big
- 1:06:05Speaker 1: coon light holee cowt.
- 1:06:07Speaker 2: Yeah that was what you want.
- 1:06:10Speaker 1: Felt like the sun came back up.
- 1:06:11Speaker 2: Yeah, it was on spotlights that reason it is.
- 1:06:14Speaker 1: I need to get one of those.
- 1:06:15Speaker 2: That's my favorite. Cool thanks.
- 1:06:17Speaker 3: Uh.
- 1:06:18Speaker 4: Devin just wants to let us notice his eight year
- 1:06:20Speaker 4: old son Dylan cut his first fish yesterday, big Northern pike.
- 1:06:23Speaker 3: He's watching the show.
- 1:06:26Speaker 2: Congrats, congrats, congratulations Dylan.
- 1:06:28Speaker 3: That's awesome.
- 1:06:30Speaker 2: And the last, oh not the last, sure it won't be.
- 1:06:33Speaker 3: This one's just for me.
- 1:06:34Speaker 4: Brian asks, do you all let your wives decorate the
- 1:06:36Speaker 4: shoulder mounts around the house for Christmas? I don't know
- 1:06:38Speaker 4: why we have to, you know, relegate that to just
- 1:06:40Speaker 4: the wives. You know, I'd love to do that too,
- 1:06:43Speaker 4: But do you guys decorate your mounts for holidays?
- 1:06:46Speaker 2: Alexis tried to put a Santa Claus hat on a
- 1:06:48Speaker 2: deer I had one time, and I said, nope, we're
- 1:06:50Speaker 2: not doing that. Disrespect tough.
- 1:06:52Speaker 1: It's I agree, it's a little disrespectful, but my wife
- 1:06:55Speaker 1: is just have a funny agreement where I get to
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: put them pretty much wherever I want, but she gets
- 1:07:00Speaker 1: to hang stuff.
- 1:07:02Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:07:02Speaker 1: My elk has a Rudolph Christmas ornament hanging on it
- 1:07:06Speaker 1: since last Christmas. Right, it's too awkward to reach without
- 1:07:09Speaker 1: a ladder.
- 1:07:10Speaker 2: And I'm not judging folks. That's just my opinion. I
- 1:07:13Speaker 2: don't do it, but you can if you won't do
- 1:07:15Speaker 2: yeah and be wrong.
- 1:07:19Speaker 4: This was for Corey from Chase. I don't know if
- 1:07:21Speaker 4: you have an answer, Corey, but he seems to think
- 1:07:22Speaker 4: you will. What clothing type is best for early season
- 1:07:26Speaker 4: archery hunting? Polyester lightweight Marino or some type of blend.
- 1:07:30Speaker 1: Oh, Marino all the way, because for tempts in the
- 1:07:33Speaker 1: like seventy to ninety degree range. Yeah, I'd say Marino
- 1:07:37Speaker 1: all the way. I mean, there are some great synthetic polyesters.
- 1:07:43Speaker 1: First Light makes the Yuma, which is great too, but
- 1:07:45Speaker 1: you just can't beat First lights Wick. If you like
- 1:07:49Speaker 1: the hoodie like I do, keep the sun off your
- 1:07:51Speaker 1: ears and all not, or you can just get the
- 1:07:53Speaker 1: quarter zip or the long sleep. But lightweight Marino. I
- 1:07:55Speaker 1: always have a backup in my backpack just in case
- 1:07:58Speaker 1: I get too sweaty. If it's that hot, you probably
- 1:07:59Speaker 1: don't you eat a backup this time of year. That's
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: always against myself.
- 1:08:03Speaker 3: Well, that's the nice thing about Marino is when it's
- 1:08:06Speaker 3: seventy to ninety and you're hiking around the Elk Woods,
- 1:08:09Speaker 3: you're not gonna stink. Yeah, but you will stink it.
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: Synthetic gets pretty ripe after half a day, where Marino will.
- 1:08:16Speaker 2: Last year was a little spicy.
- 1:08:17Speaker 1: Yeah, spicy to the nostril, get a little spicying.
- 1:08:21Speaker 3: I like Marino for everything every time of the year.
- 1:08:23Speaker 3: Me too hot, cold in between.
- 1:08:26Speaker 1: Bass layer, mid layer, Yeah, go Marino.
- 1:08:29Speaker 3: A really quick one from Russell. That was from Chase
- 1:08:31Speaker 3: by the Russell's asking what caliber you.
- 1:08:33Speaker 4: Use for your moose? He said, sorry if this was asked,
- 1:08:34Speaker 4: but he had to leave the show to help a
- 1:08:36Speaker 4: youth deer hunter.
- 1:08:36Speaker 1: Great, well, that's a.
- 1:08:37Speaker 2: Good reason to reason to believe. But it was a
- 1:08:40Speaker 2: three hundred PRC and I had to shoot that rascal
- 1:08:43Speaker 2: three times with it, all three of them, more than
- 1:08:45Speaker 2: I was in the ball of room, and he acted
- 1:08:48Speaker 2: like he didn't even phase him. It was tremendous, tremendous round.
- 1:08:52Speaker 2: It performed wonderfully, and I got one of them back
- 1:08:56Speaker 2: to Tech. The guy that's Tan and the hide found
- 1:08:58Speaker 2: one of them. Oh cool, So that'll be a little
- 1:09:01Speaker 2: a little good nugget of gold. I'll get to keep
- 1:09:05Speaker 2: the antlers.
- 1:09:05Speaker 1: And a nice little mushroom.
- 1:09:07Speaker 2: Oh yeah, yeah, it was good. Yeah, two hundred and
- 1:09:10Speaker 2: twelve grains of stop and lay down.
- 1:09:15Speaker 4: Cameron's asking, if you guys put in for Eastern Elk
- 1:09:18Speaker 4: Quota hunts, have you ever done that any I put
- 1:09:22Speaker 4: in for Pennsylvania.
- 1:09:23Speaker 1: Yeah, Seth and I were just looking at some Yeah,
- 1:09:25Speaker 1: I was just showing Pennsylvania bowls. Good Lord on a
- 1:09:28Speaker 1: different level here, but for them in Pennsylvania.
- 1:09:33Speaker 3: Yeah, and I know Kentucky is that's probably your best
- 1:09:39Speaker 3: odds of getting You're right, Yeah, I don't know the
- 1:09:42Speaker 3: other states. There's a handful of states that have you know,
- 1:09:47Speaker 3: Eastern Elk. I should say Elk in the east or
- 1:09:50Speaker 3: not Eastern Elk. But yeah, there's and seems like more
- 1:09:55Speaker 3: and more states are starting to have seasons, and more
- 1:09:59Speaker 3: and more states are starting to have hell these days.
- 1:10:03Speaker 3: So they do well back East, they do real well
- 1:10:05Speaker 3: in Pennsylvania. I know that big. Let's do one more here.
- 1:10:10Speaker 3: I thought this one was fun. This is from Leland again.
- 1:10:12Speaker 3: He's asking what the oldest rifle that you have used
- 1:10:15Speaker 3: to harvest game is. If you know the answer this question.
- 1:10:18Speaker 2: It'd probably be a thirty thirty Winchester. Thirty thirty I
- 1:10:23Speaker 2: think that's probably killed more deer than C. W. DU.
- 1:10:27Speaker 2: In South Arkansas where I grew up, it was a
- 1:10:30Speaker 2: thirty to thirty lire action rifle. Whether it was a
- 1:10:33Speaker 2: Marlin or a Winchester, yep, And that was probably And
- 1:10:36Speaker 2: it was my oldest brother, Tim is his brother in law,
- 1:10:42Speaker 2: and it was his grandfather's gun. I think. So it
- 1:10:46Speaker 2: was like three generations that and I got to bar
- 1:10:51Speaker 2: it and kill a deer with it.
- 1:10:53Speaker 3: My first dear rifle was a Huskvarna three h eight.
- 1:10:59Speaker 2: Really yeah, the chainsaw folks.
- 1:11:01Speaker 3: Yep, same company used to make rifles.
- 1:11:04Speaker 2: I did not know.
- 1:11:04Speaker 3: I don't know the year of that rifle. I still
- 1:11:06Speaker 3: have it had had a straight red or straight four
- 1:11:10Speaker 3: power red field on it, And yeah, I kill a
- 1:11:12Speaker 3: lot of dealer with that thing until I bought a
- 1:11:16Speaker 3: different rifle.
- 1:11:17Speaker 2: But that was a steal rivele you bought after that?
- 1:11:21Speaker 3: Yeah, real loud, so loud. I had to put oil
- 1:11:25Speaker 3: in it, but no I should, I should. I'd never
- 1:11:29Speaker 3: looked up the year of that rifle, the Huskvarno. That
- 1:11:32Speaker 3: should I should never even heard of it. So that
- 1:11:34Speaker 3: gives me something. But I'm sure that's the that's the
- 1:11:36Speaker 3: oldest rifle that I've ever killed something.
- 1:11:39Speaker 1: Yeah, a lot less exciting. It would have been an
- 1:11:41Speaker 1: old two forty three.
- 1:11:42Speaker 3: That was my dad's.
- 1:11:43Speaker 1: That would have been my first big game harvest, which
- 1:11:45Speaker 1: would have been an antelope when I was twelve. I
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: couldn't tell you the brand, but I do remember it
- 1:11:51Speaker 1: was a two forty three.
- 1:11:52Speaker 3: It nice, my father does.
- 1:11:53Speaker 2: Yeah, you got it, yep, little man, Marshall, get on that.
- 1:11:57Speaker 1: That'd be a great first gun.
- 1:11:58Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, Well, if you shoots it half as good
- 1:12:01Speaker 2: as he writes a book, it's gonna be outstanding.
- 1:12:04Speaker 1: Watch out, Stephen Ranella.
- 1:12:06Speaker 2: He's coming for you. Phil. Is that it?
- 1:12:09Speaker 3: Yeah, it's gonna call it there.
- 1:12:10Speaker 2: We're gonna We're gonna put the cork in it or
- 1:12:12Speaker 2: pull the plug or whatever it is. Alexis and Bailey
- 1:12:15Speaker 2: get ready, Daddy's coming home. Thank you boys to catch,
- 1:12:19Speaker 2: I got a plane to catch. Thank y'all for being here,
- 1:12:22Speaker 2: and thank everybody for tuning in and listening. Hopefully I'll
- 1:12:25Speaker 2: be back soon. Do it again.
- 1:12:27Speaker 1: Thank you Phil, Thanks, thanks guys,
