- 0:12SPEAKER_00: Hey my friend, thanks for joining me for today's episode of the Daily Rider Podcast.
- 0:17SPEAKER_00: This is part of a series that we're doing on the writer's path, seven steps to building a writing business.
- 0:22SPEAKER_00: And you can go back to the beginning of the series on June 27th and listen to the whole thing if you want, or if you've been following along day to day, congrats.
- 0:29SPEAKER_00: I so appreciate it.
- 0:30SPEAKER_00: And we're going to pick up right where we left off yesterday.
- 0:33SPEAKER_00: So we've talked about several steps in the writer's path, and today we're going to focus on milestone number five, which is expanding your network of friends, fans, and connections.
- 0:43SPEAKER_00: So why is this important?
- 0:44SPEAKER_00: Well, it's important because one of the biggest things that holds back great writers is not knowing how to network and build relationships.
- 0:52SPEAKER_00: And I have learned a lot from my friend Vincent Puglisi in this regard.
- 0:56SPEAKER_00: He leads the Total Life Freedom Community and Mastermind, and he's recently released a fantastic book called The Wealth of Connection, which I highly, highly recommend.
- 1:05SPEAKER_00: That book is going to help you develop a mindset of networking and building relationships.
- 1:10SPEAKER_00: Now, a network is critical because these are the people who will support your work, they'll share your work, and they will refer others to you and you'll refer other people to them.
- 1:19SPEAKER_00: Whether it's friends, fans, readers, collaborators, or connections, you need other people in your life and in your business if you're going to do anything significant.
- 1:29SPEAKER_00: Now, the challenge here is that it's hard for a lot of introverted writers to do networking.
- 1:34SPEAKER_00: We'll have a lot more to say about this later on, but for now, I want to challenge you to simply reach out to three people a day just to say hello and to see how they're doing.
- 1:42SPEAKER_00: No other agenda, no other reason.
- 1:45SPEAKER_00: You're just networking.
- 1:46SPEAKER_00: You're just building relationships, you're just checking in on people.
- 1:49SPEAKER_00: People love it when you check in on them, just to say hello and to see what's going on in their world.
- 1:54SPEAKER_00: No other agenda, you don't want anything, you're just checking in because you value that person and the relationship that you have with them.
- 2:01SPEAKER_00: Remember this.
- 2:02SPEAKER_00: This might be the most important thing that I say in this whole series, honestly.
- 2:05SPEAKER_00: Remember this.
- 2:06SPEAKER_00: Our greatest emotional need as human beings is for other people to affirm and acknowledge us.
- 2:13SPEAKER_00: Now let me say that again because this is really important.
- 2:15SPEAKER_00: Our greatest emotional need as human beings is for other people to affirm and acknowledge us.
- 2:22SPEAKER_00: I promise you, whenever you go home, whenever you go to church, whenever you go to work, whenever you get on Zoom meetings, whenever you talk to clients or customers, you will not meet a single person in your life this week or today.
- 2:35SPEAKER_00: You will not meet a single person who does not want to be affirmed and acknowledged and loved and appreciated.
- 2:42SPEAKER_00: That is our number one emotional need as human beings.
- 2:45SPEAKER_00: And if you can do that for people, if you can get past your introverted nature, and if you can strategically and systematically reach out to people and build your connections and affirm them, acknowledge them, appreciate them, amazing things will happen for you, I promise.
- 3:00SPEAKER_00: I believe this is one of the main things that holds back writers.
- 3:03SPEAKER_00: You can be the greatest writer in the world, but if you don't have connections, if you don't love people, and if you don't have a network, you're dead in the water, and there's no other way to say it.
- 3:12SPEAKER_00: I've known a lot of talented writers who are not good with people, and therefore that really, really hurts them.
- 3:18SPEAKER_00: It doesn't matter if you're the most talented person.
- 3:21SPEAKER_00: If you can't get along with people and if you don't love people and want to serve people and want to relate with them, that's gonna really, really hurt you.
- 3:27SPEAKER_00: So your relationships and your network is one of the biggest difference makers in this whole deal of having a successful writing business, but also just having a successful life.
- 3:37SPEAKER_00: Now, the big challenge here, and I've already alluded to this, the big challenge here, especially for introverted writers, is that we mistakenly believe that writing success is all about being a good writer.
- 3:47SPEAKER_00: It's about being the most innovative person or the most creative person or having the best written content or the most books or whatever.
- 3:54SPEAKER_00: And that's just not true.
- 3:56SPEAKER_00: We have to get out of our comfort zones and take initiative to build and nurture those relationships.
- 4:00SPEAKER_00: That's really where the rubber meets the road.
- 4:02SPEAKER_00: That is such a key factor in all of this.
- 4:04SPEAKER_00: Again, it doesn't matter if you're a great writer, if you can't get along with people, and if you if you don't have a network of relationships with people.
- 4:12SPEAKER_00: So here's my question for you today.
- 4:14SPEAKER_00: Who are three people that you can check in on today?
- 4:16SPEAKER_00: Whatever you're doing right now, well, if you're driving, don't do this.
- 4:19SPEAKER_00: But if you're not driving, stop what you're doing if you can and just check in on three friends or three people that you know.
- 4:26SPEAKER_00: Shoot them an email or a text or a Facebook message.
- 4:28SPEAKER_00: Hey, how's it going?
- 4:29SPEAKER_00: Just thought I'd check in and say hi.
- 4:31SPEAKER_00: What's going on in your world?
- 4:32SPEAKER_00: It's really that simple.
- 4:33SPEAKER_00: Don't make this a big complicated thing because you won't do it.
- 4:35SPEAKER_00: But if you can just do this every day and do it consistently, I promise this will change your life and it'll change your writing business.
- 4:41SPEAKER_00: All right.
- 4:42SPEAKER_00: Thanks for listening, and I will see you tomorrow.
