- 0:00Speaker 1: For some, prison is where it ends. For all, court
- 0:05Speaker 1: is where it begins.
- 0:06Speaker 2: This ain't no TV show.
- 0:10Speaker 1: This is the real world.
- 0:12Speaker 3: And this is what's happening at the courthouse on KFM
- 0:16Speaker 3: Mornings with Ramiz.
- 0:19Speaker 4: This is when you slap your hands together and you
- 0:22Speaker 4: rub them going, oh, this is going to be juicy.
- 0:25Speaker 5: It's nice when you're the one listening and not the
- 0:27Speaker 5: one being stopped by Ramiz at the courthouse.
- 0:30Speaker 4: In trouble.
- 0:31Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 0:33Speaker 7: And you say lots happening today, Ramiz.
- 0:36Speaker 1: There's a lot going on, yes.
- 0:37Speaker 4: Has anyone on this team ever been served papers by
- 0:40Speaker 4: the court?
- 0:41Speaker 6: No.
- 0:42Speaker 5: No.
- 0:43Speaker 4: No. Just me then.
- 0:47Speaker 7: For what?
- 0:48Speaker 5: And also when you say served papers, that could mean
- 0:50Speaker 5: many things.
- 0:53Speaker 7: But do they actually do it like they do it
- 0:55Speaker 7: in the movies, like Rameez Khan?
- 0:57Speaker 1: You've been served.
- 0:58Speaker 7: You've been served.
- 0:59Speaker 4: That's right. I've been served a couple times. Once they
- 1:03Speaker 4: came and knocked on my door at the house. Boom,
- 1:05Speaker 4: there we go.
- 1:06Speaker 7: And then what does that mean? You just have to
- 1:08Speaker 7: go to court?
- 1:09Speaker 4: Yeah, well, that's the start of the process. That's the
- 1:12Speaker 4: whole summons.
- 1:14Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 1:14Speaker 4: I was once served by former President Zuma.
- 1:19Speaker 1: Prank related.
- 1:22Speaker 4: Slander related.
- 1:25Speaker 7: Outside of the prank.
- 1:27Speaker 2: So you're catching on nonsense even outside of the prank, Darren.
- 1:31Speaker 4: You must know what it's like when you get served
- 1:34Speaker 4: a lawsuit that says you are being sued by the
- 1:37Speaker 4: president of the country for 49 million rand.
- 1:42Speaker 1: You should have just paid that money, Darren.
- 1:45Speaker 7: Imagine. Well, clearly you came out victorious.
- 1:50Speaker 4: Yes. No, he ended up dropping the case.
- 1:52Speaker 7: Did you frame the paper?
- 1:55Speaker 4: No, let me tell you, it's a scary thing.
- 1:59Speaker 1: And it is a scare tactic.
- 2:01Speaker 5: Absolutely.
- 2:01Speaker 4: A lot of the time, hey? It was very much a...
- 2:05Speaker 4: They believed it was a gagging tactic.
- 2:07Speaker 7: Interesting.
- 2:12Speaker 4: But yeah, it's an experience that everybody needs to experience
- 2:16Speaker 4: once in their life.
- 2:16Speaker 1: Just to feel alive.
- 2:18Speaker 2: No, guys, there's already too much happening in the world.
- 2:24Speaker 7: Let's now not still be served.
- 2:27Speaker 1: Like you said, I just want a boring life.
- 2:30Speaker 4: That's it. Nothing else. What you hear here is... is
- 2:34Speaker 4: everything but boring. All right, so this is what's happening
- 2:37Speaker 4: at the courthouse. This is where Ramiz goes and patrols
- 2:40Speaker 4: the steps of the various courthouses. The one that he
- 2:43Speaker 4: was at yesterday was Deparel. What is happening in Deparel?
- 2:48Speaker 4: Ramiz asking everybody one simple question.
- 2:50Speaker 1: What are you doing at the courthouse today?
- 2:53Speaker 7: For assault case.
- 2:55Speaker 9: My child's boyfriend threw out my window and assaulted us
- 2:58Speaker 9: with a knife in our house.
- 3:00Speaker 1: He threatened you with a knife?
- 3:02Speaker 7: Yes, he came in our house.
- 3:03Speaker 9: He was drunk, and me and my husband and my children,
- 3:06Speaker 9: we don't drink. We are very peaceful people, but he
- 3:10Speaker 9: came in.
- 3:11Speaker 6: Why?
- 3:12Speaker 9: He was looking for my daughter. She was hiding in
- 3:15Speaker 9: the bathroom, scared of him.
- 3:17Speaker 1: It's her boyfriend?
- 3:19Speaker 4: It's her boyfriend, yes.
- 3:20Speaker 1: Is she still with him?
- 3:21Speaker 7: She's still with him.
- 3:23Speaker 4: Why?
- 3:23Speaker 9: Because they love each other. I tell her, love don't hurt.
- 3:29Speaker 9: Love don't give you marks on your body. That is
- 3:32Speaker 9: not love. You are confusing yourself with this guy.
- 3:37Speaker 1: And where is she now?
- 3:38Speaker 9: She's there in the court. She's sitting next to him.
- 3:41Speaker 4: No. And his mother.
- 3:43Speaker 1: And she's supporting him, not you.
- 3:45Speaker 4: Yes, she's supporting him.
- 3:47Speaker 1: I'm sure you didn't raise her to be this way. No, no, no, no.
- 3:51Speaker 9: I raised her very well. But when she met this
- 3:54Speaker 9: boy in school... They're from a school together. So she
- 3:58Speaker 9: thinks it's going to be a husband one day. I
- 4:01Speaker 9: don't know what is wrong with her. I don't know
- 4:03Speaker 9: what's going on in her head. But she is madly
- 4:06Speaker 9: in love with this boy that don't work. He's sitting
- 4:11Speaker 9: all the day at the corners asking for money, drink
- 4:15Speaker 9: and smoke.
- 4:16Speaker 1: How does she think that he's going to provide for her?
- 4:20Speaker 9: I think that she thinks that he's going to change.
- 4:24Speaker 9: But when he's going to change, I don't know when
- 4:26Speaker 9: he's going to change.
- 4:27Speaker 1: So what did he say? Like, why did he do
- 4:29Speaker 1: that to you?
- 4:30Speaker 9: He didn't give me explanation. I don't want explanation. I
- 4:34Speaker 9: want this to be sorted out here by court.
- 4:37Speaker 1: What did he tell your daughter? What he did? Why
- 4:39Speaker 1: he did it?
- 4:40Speaker 7: He's so sorry what he did.
- 4:42Speaker 4: And he want to ask me for forgiveness.
- 4:45Speaker 1: I hope that your daughter, she's able to leave this
- 4:51Speaker 1: man alive. Thank you very much for your time and
- 4:54Speaker 1: have a good day.
- 4:55Speaker 4: Bye-bye.
- 4:55Speaker 1: What are you doing at the courthouse today?
- 4:58Speaker 8: I've got various cases open. Maintenance, a parent plan that
- 5:02Speaker 8: I'm trying for three years to settle. The delay is
- 5:05Speaker 8: because of the Hague Convention, an international agreement that South
- 5:09Speaker 8: Africa signed in which the father claims.
- 5:13Speaker 3: That I abducted the children.
- 5:15Speaker 8: But according to the Hague, it's not abduction, it's wrongful retainment.
- 5:19Speaker 1: International case as well, which means that you were living overseas, correct?
- 5:24Speaker 8: How it works with the Hague Convention is usually for
- 5:27Speaker 8: international parents, right?
- 5:29Speaker 3: But just to be clear.
- 5:30Speaker 8: I didn't take the kids in the middle of the
- 5:32Speaker 8: night and fled and he doesn't have access to them,
- 5:36Speaker 8: doesn't know where they are.
- 5:38Speaker 3: In my case, it was we were in South Africa, we.
- 5:41Speaker 8: Went to Germany for holiday and then.
- 5:44Speaker 3: COVID kept us there. We couldn't return.
- 5:48Speaker 8: That's the time our relationship broke down. And then he
- 5:52Speaker 8: kept the children's passports away from me. My father fell ill.
- 5:56Speaker 8: I came to South Africa. He brought the children to
- 6:00Speaker 8: South Africa. And that's when I decided, hey, I've got
- 6:04Speaker 8: a gap.
- 6:05Speaker 3: Keep the passports. I'm keeping the kids.
- 6:07Speaker 8: And that's actually how I managed to then stay in
- 6:10Speaker 8: South Africa with the children. And that's when he went
- 6:13Speaker 8: to the Hague Convention because he didn't give permission to.
- 6:16Speaker 3: But it's going into the fourth year now. And I'm
- 6:19Speaker 3: today here at the local court because.
- 6:21Speaker 8: I'm just trying to get a maintenance and a parent
- 6:24Speaker 8: plan and structure, which has been a three-year struggle.
- 6:28Speaker 1: But where are they now, though?
- 6:30Speaker 3: They're with me. I'm their primary caretaker. I've always been.
- 6:33Speaker 1: How did you meet this guy?
- 6:34Speaker 3: We met at the Ops Festival. okay in in cape
- 6:38Speaker 3: town in.
- 6:39Speaker 1: 2006 so he was.
- 6:40Speaker 8: Here basically yeah he was here and we've always lived
- 6:42Speaker 8: in south africa he's got south african id he's he's
- 6:46Speaker 8: german national oh yes and he's got a residence permit
- 6:51Speaker 8: he's got a paid off house so if the children
- 6:53Speaker 8: would go to germany i don't have that i don't
- 6:55Speaker 8: have a house waiting there for me it's a.
- 6:57Speaker 1: Bit messy this whole thing.
- 6:59Speaker 8: Very messy And because you ran to the Hague, I'm
- 7:02Speaker 8: not getting any support. They can't assist because they say, well,
- 7:06Speaker 8: it's a high court matter. I can't go to the
- 7:08Speaker 8: family advocate. So I had to really.
- 7:10Speaker 3: Work on my own. I litigated on my own. The
- 7:13Speaker 3: case was dismissed. I was up against four advocates all
- 7:17Speaker 3: by myself. I'm not a lawyer. I'm only a mom
- 7:19Speaker 3: speaking the truth.
- 7:21Speaker 8: But now there's this big appeal and it's just dragging
- 7:24Speaker 8: on and dragging on.
- 7:25Speaker 3: In the meantime, he comes back. on average six to
- 7:28Speaker 3: nine times a year to South Africa.
- 7:29Speaker 8: To visit the boys. I don't know, I like to
- 7:31Speaker 8: call him a trust fund child, you know, just.
- 7:34Speaker 1: Okay, okay.
- 7:35Speaker 3: Obviously he's got the means to do that.
- 7:37Speaker 8: That's why I'm fighting for the children to remain here
- 7:40Speaker 8: because if they would go, I can't visit nine times.
- 7:44Speaker 8: When you look at the statistics, it's 90% of moms
- 7:47Speaker 8: facing these charges and the Hague do not ask why
- 7:51Speaker 8: did the mom flee. Because the Hague decides what court
- 7:56Speaker 8: should handle the parental dispute. They literally ask a central question,
- 8:02Speaker 8: which is, where's the habitual residence of the children?
- 8:06Speaker 3: Where are they settled?
- 8:07Speaker 8: And based on that answer, they say, okay, now you
- 8:10Speaker 8: go to that country and sort out your business.
- 8:13Speaker 3: But now he says.
- 8:14Speaker 8: It's Germany because we were there for over two years.
- 8:18Speaker 3: And that's the crux of the issue.
- 8:21Speaker 1: Where were they born though?
- 8:22Speaker 7: South Africa.
- 8:23Speaker 3: And I'm building here as a single mom. And I'm
- 8:26Speaker 3: making progress.
- 8:27Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 8:27Speaker 1: All the best. Thank you very much for sharing your story.
- 8:31Speaker 1: Thank you very much for your time.
- 8:32Speaker 7: You're welcome.
- 8:33Speaker 1: Bye-bye.
- 8:34Speaker 4: Bye. That sounds very complicated.
- 8:36Speaker 7: Sure, but also what a fighter, hey?
- 8:40Speaker 4: Yes, yes.
- 8:40Speaker 7: And this fight has been going on for years.
- 8:44Speaker 2: I'm pleasantly surprised to hear how optimistic she is.
- 8:47Speaker 7: The fight continues.
- 8:48Speaker 1: 100%.
- 8:50Speaker 4: Taking on four advocates herself. You go, man.
- 8:54Speaker 7: A fight across continents, essentially.
- 8:56Speaker 1: That's it, yeah.
- 8:57Speaker 3: You know?
- 8:58Speaker 2: And it's always so sad, especially when there's a partner
- 9:01Speaker 2: involved with money who could make your life significantly easier
- 9:07Speaker 2: and who chooses not to. Even if you're not together,
- 9:09Speaker 2: but we've got children together.
- 9:11Speaker 3: Yep.
- 9:13Speaker 4: A friend of mine is in court at the moment
- 9:16Speaker 4: and he said he'll represent himself. And the judge strongly advised, sir,
- 9:23Speaker 4: you need to rethink. You are going to come up
- 9:28Speaker 4: against highly skilled advocates that know the law and you
- 9:31Speaker 4: don't know the terminology in this courtroom, sir. Do you
- 9:34Speaker 4: still want to represent yourself? Yes, I do. I will
- 9:39Speaker 4: caution you again and advise you.
- 9:42Speaker 1: And that judge has seen things, eh? He's seen things.
- 9:45Speaker 5: And that's an ego decision, that. That wanting to represent yourself.
- 9:50Speaker 4: No, this is an affordability thing.
- 9:52Speaker 7: But there's also affordable options for representation. But then you
- 9:55Speaker 7: also get the likes of like a taboo bester. I
- 9:57Speaker 7: can do it. I can do it.
- 9:58Speaker 1: I can do it.
- 9:59Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah.
- 10:00Speaker 4: Yeah, so, wow, okay. International courts at The Hague. I
- 10:04Speaker 4: thought she was saying at The Hague. At The Hague court.
- 10:07Speaker 1: No, no.
- 10:07Speaker 4: The Hague.
- 10:08Speaker 2: Also, how heartbreaking that first story, Ramiz.
- 10:12Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 10:13Speaker 5: And it's not unique, you know?
- 10:15Speaker 2: Who are you, a boyfriend coming into the house drunk
- 10:18Speaker 2: to beat up my mother?
- 10:20Speaker 5: And I'm hiding in the bathroom.
- 10:22Speaker 2: What?
- 10:23Speaker 5: Because I'm terrified as well and I'm back with him
- 10:26Speaker 5: the next day.
- 10:27Speaker 2: If we are dating and this is what you are
- 10:29Speaker 2: already showing me, why would I dream up a future
- 10:32Speaker 2: with you?
- 10:33Speaker 7: Why am I waiting for potential? Why am I not
- 10:36Speaker 7: listening to my mom?
- 10:38Speaker 4: Because he'll get a job tomorrow. No.
- 10:41Speaker 7: Also, how is he drinking and smoking if he's unemployed?
- 10:44Speaker 4: Tomorrow he'll change.
- 10:45Speaker 7: Who is funding this man's life? Other people.
- 10:48Speaker 5: Other people, yeah.
- 10:49Speaker 4: Enablers.
- 10:50Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 10:50Speaker 4: You probably know there's a few other things involved there too. Okay.
- 10:54Speaker 4: Good job, Ramiz. That's what's happening at the courthouse.
- 10:56Speaker 1: Thank you very much.
- 10:57Speaker 4: In Paul.
- 10:58Speaker 9: In Paul.
- 10:58Speaker 4: You think it's just a quiet little town there. There's
- 11:01Speaker 4: a lot going on there. There's a lot happening. Okay.
- 11:05Speaker 4: Let's grab a song now. Oh, this is a good tune. Yoga.
- 11:08Speaker 4: 9 to 5. The remix for 2026. Love this. Long
- 11:15Speaker 4: live Dolly Parton. Forever in our memories. It's Yoga with
- 11:21Speaker 4: 9 to 5 here on KFM Mornings. Alright, here we've
- 11:25Speaker 4: got some messages from the gallery about what's happening at
- 11:29Speaker 4: the courthouse this morning. Dead first until the morning thing.
- 11:32Speaker 4: Dead nowadays is reality. The better you are, the more
- 11:38Speaker 4: Give us a love for you.
- 11:39Speaker 1: Bring that boyfriend to me. Bring him to me.
- 11:42Speaker 6: That first lady has a lot to deal with.
- 11:44Speaker 10: I actually feel very sorry for that mother. Yo, guys,
- 11:48Speaker 10: this is hitting quite close to home here. I've had
- 11:51Speaker 10: an argument with my in-laws. They also don't want me
- 11:54Speaker 10: in their house. They also don't want to accept my apology.
- 11:57Speaker 10: I'm busy getting divorced with my wife now as well.
- 12:01Speaker 10: And yeah, I'm about.
- 12:03Speaker 6: To do the court thing.
- 12:05Speaker 10: That lady sounds like she's paying a hell of a
- 12:07Speaker 10: lot of money to go through all those trials and stuff.
- 12:10Speaker 10: Sounds like I'm in for quite the hectic chapter coming
- 12:14Speaker 10: up in my life.
- 12:15Speaker 6: Guys, I'm sure there's an underlining story. The fact that
- 12:19Speaker 6: this man is fighting so much. And even though I
- 12:22Speaker 6: respect the woman for fighting, but there must be some
- 12:25Speaker 6: underlining story that we'd never heard of.
- 12:27Speaker 4: So let's take this at face value.
- 12:29Speaker 6: That case with the mother, something there is so dodgy.
- 12:33Speaker 6: She kept the kids away from the dad. You can't
- 12:36Speaker 6: just do that. You have to come up with an
- 12:38Speaker 6: arrangement first and not just keep the kids away and
- 12:41Speaker 6: then try to set it up in court after.
- 12:43Speaker 4: As is always the case, we only hear one side
- 12:49Speaker 4: of the story.
- 12:49Speaker 1: So, yeah.
- 12:51Speaker 4: But thank you for your comments from what's happening at
- 12:55Speaker 4: the courthouse.
- 12:56Speaker 7: Sure, Amis. You always get us talking and thinking.
- 13:00Speaker 4: Oh, and that guy that had a bit of a
- 13:03Speaker 4: reality check, he's going to go fight that battle right now.
- 13:06Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 13:08Speaker 4: Strap in for four years. Four years of in and
- 13:12Speaker 4: out the courts.
- 13:13Speaker 1: Seems so.
- 13:14Speaker 4: That's more than likely what's going to happen.
- 13:15Speaker 1: Clear the calendar, yeah.
- 13:17Speaker 7: And hopefully things become easier.
- 13:18Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 13:20Speaker 7: When we never forget about the children.
- 13:22Speaker 4: Well, that's the main priority, isn't it?
- 13:24Speaker 1: And their safety.
- 13:25Speaker 4: That's priority number one.
