- 2:11Speaker 2: Chris Higgins, a bearded film guy, as always your host,
- 2:13Speaker 2: but I'm always joined by the ever so lovely Steve
- 2:16Speaker 2: from After Hours Video.
- 2:18Speaker 6: What's Happening guys.
- 2:20Speaker 2: And we have another guest. You've seen him here before
- 2:23Speaker 2: a bunch of times, Jordan from the movie Den. Thanks
- 2:26Speaker 2: for coming back, dude.
- 2:27Speaker 7: It's going on, guys, Thanks, thanks for having me on.
- 2:30Speaker 2: Yeah, of course we've just spent We intended to start
- 2:32Speaker 2: recording like forty five minutes ago, but we spent this
- 2:36Speaker 2: last time sending links to each other on VHS's. That's
- 2:40Speaker 2: what we've been doing.
- 2:41Speaker 6: The Dream's not dead.
- 2:44Speaker 2: I hope, I hope you boys are doing okay. You
- 2:46Speaker 2: guys been spending a lot of money on physical media.
- 2:48Speaker 7: Lately, yes, as always, no comment, a lot of money
- 2:54Speaker 7: on that and cough drops and suit of fed for me,
- 2:58Speaker 7: I'm just getting over hold.
- 3:00Speaker 2: So you're feeling better, I mean you're sounding thank you.
- 3:06Speaker 2: I put my hand to your head to feel your temperature. Yeah,
- 3:09Speaker 2: pretty good.
- 3:10Speaker 6: I'm saving up all my money for the Faces of
- 3:12Speaker 6: Death box set.
- 3:13Speaker 2: Yeah, if anybody knows, if anybody has a hook up
- 3:16Speaker 2: on the Face of Death HS box at Steve here
- 3:19Speaker 2: is willing to pay you one hundred dollars for it.
- 3:21Speaker 6: No more, no more, no more.
- 3:24Speaker 2: What it was like ten dollars shipping, I mean okay,
- 3:31Speaker 2: no shipped, and hopefully Jordan. Jordan's just left the twenty
- 3:36Speaker 2: five dollars offer on an eight thousand dollars halloweid VHS
- 3:39Speaker 2: on Eveay. He has Maybe at some point during this
- 3:42Speaker 2: episode he'll get accepted.
- 3:44Speaker 7: Dude, if that happens, yeah, you guys will know.
- 3:50Speaker 2: I mean, I thought it was a I was the
- 3:52Speaker 2: one who gave you the idea, and I thought it
- 3:54Speaker 2: was I was just joking, but yeah, you know if
- 3:58Speaker 2: you get it. Ever is what I'm saying.
- 4:00Speaker 6: Man, I respect that.
- 4:03Speaker 2: But it's always we're here to chat about some stuff
- 4:05Speaker 2: we've been watching on physical media. New old, doesn't matter.
- 4:08Speaker 2: We're just here to talk about what we've been watching.
- 4:11Speaker 2: I have four picks. I know, these lovely gentlemen here,
- 4:13Speaker 2: I have four or five picks, sometimes six seventy eight.
- 4:15Speaker 2: I don't know. They've been showing tons of stuff over
- 4:17Speaker 2: the last forty five minutes. So I'm unsure how long
- 4:20Speaker 2: this episode is going to be. But I'm ready to
- 4:24Speaker 2: kick it off. Do you guys mind if if I
- 4:26Speaker 2: start with uh, with with with some shit real quick?
- 4:31Speaker 7: Yeah?
- 4:31Speaker 2: No, okay, go for it, lay it out all right.
- 4:34Speaker 2: So I got a couple. I got a couple of
- 4:37Speaker 2: DVDs that I've been watching, and one of them, which
- 4:41Speaker 2: I want to say, I was gonna post. I was
- 4:43Speaker 2: gonna post this on Instagram. Our buddy Garrett co hosts
- 4:47Speaker 2: an incredible podcast called The Anchor Bay Archives Podcast. I
- 4:52Speaker 2: was gonna post this and tag him and do all that,
- 4:55Speaker 2: you know, fun stuff, and I was like, I cannot
- 4:58Speaker 2: post about this movie. You can't do it. And I
- 5:02Speaker 2: don't have a whole lot to say other than, you know,
- 5:05Speaker 2: not good things. But Day of the Dead two Contagium.
- 5:11Speaker 2: This is from I don't evenmember what you hear. This
- 5:14Speaker 2: is from. This is from CHESA five. I think, yeah,
- 5:17Speaker 2: two thousand and five. I see Jordan's face, this little
- 5:21Speaker 2: tiny smirk that he has. This is a I don't
- 5:26Speaker 2: know if this is I think this is a prequel
- 5:29Speaker 2: that yes, it is in nineteen sixty eight. This takes
- 5:33Speaker 2: place in and it's a big pile of shit. I
- 5:42Speaker 2: don't even really know what to say. It's there's there's
- 5:47Speaker 2: a hospital and they have they put this virus in
- 5:52Speaker 2: a in a thing that gets put into a water
- 5:55Speaker 2: bottle that gets discovered years later, and these people in
- 6:00Speaker 2: a home and like one person turns into a zombie,
- 6:04Speaker 2: and starts killing people, and yeah, they're the back of
- 6:09Speaker 2: this box that I'm reading right now says part prequel,
- 6:13Speaker 2: part sequel, and a total gut ripping gorse viewing homage
- 6:16Speaker 2: to the original.
- 6:17Speaker 6: And none of that is true, Chris, be honest, what's
- 6:21Speaker 6: better Day of the Dead two or Zombie three?
- 6:27Speaker 2: Uh? I would say, well, I would definitely say Zombie three,
- 6:32Speaker 2: but yeah, this is uh. I don't know what I
- 6:35Speaker 2: was thinking. I remember when I bought this, it was
- 6:37Speaker 2: it was mostly out of like nostalgia, because I did
- 6:39Speaker 2: see this so many times when I was young at
- 6:43Speaker 2: rental stores or whatever the case. And I do think
- 6:46Speaker 2: it's interesting to own movies like this because it's so
- 6:51Speaker 2: fucking weird that they even exist, that like Day of
- 6:54Speaker 2: the Dead two was made in that there's multiple like
- 6:57Speaker 2: unofficial sequels and spin offs and all kinds of stuff.
- 7:00Speaker 2: For David, one of them has said, haig, and it's
- 7:02Speaker 2: in three D or no, that's not either Living Dead.
- 7:05Speaker 2: I'm sorry Georgia Romero Films. But yeah, I figured I
- 7:09Speaker 2: kicked this off on a positive note and talk about
- 7:11Speaker 2: this this movie. But good news is for anybody who
- 7:14Speaker 2: is interested, there's an audio commentary with the writer and
- 7:20Speaker 2: co director, the producer and co director, and then the cinematographer,
- 7:24Speaker 2: which I don't know what he did. Was he hugriphied
- 7:28Speaker 2: for this? But there's also a making of as well
- 7:32Speaker 2: on this disc and it's presented in a widescreen presentation.
- 7:35Speaker 7: Can I please can we please get a beyond the
- 7:39Speaker 7: Blood commentary episode on David Dead two Contagium?
- 7:43Speaker 6: Oh boy, it would just be.
- 7:47Speaker 2: I don't I don't know. There's not enough whiskey in
- 7:49Speaker 2: the world for that. Man. I get like, you know, genuinely,
- 7:53Speaker 2: I watched stuff in our collection and I say, like,
- 7:57Speaker 2: if I'm never gonna watch this again, I'm gonna get
- 7:58Speaker 2: rid of it. And if I don't get rid of it,
- 8:01Speaker 2: if I don't like it, I keep it because, in
- 8:03Speaker 2: my opinion, like certain movies hold historical context or value,
- 8:07Speaker 2: and I think like it's a cool piece to kind
- 8:09Speaker 2: of have for curation. This kind of doesn't fall into
- 8:13Speaker 2: either category. And I just don't know why I'm going
- 8:16Speaker 2: to keep it, but I'm going to keep it. And uh,
- 8:19Speaker 2: that's that's That's all I have to say about the
- 8:21Speaker 2: Day of the Dead two.
- 8:22Speaker 7: It'll be worth a lot of money one day.
- 8:25Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm sure. I'm sure. Like everything else, at some
- 8:28Speaker 2: point this movie will have like a reevaluation and suddenly
- 8:32Speaker 2: it'll be like YouTube video that's like the on the
- 8:37Speaker 2: unsequeled or the The Requel of the Century reanalyzing Day
- 8:42Speaker 2: of the Dead.
- 8:42Speaker 6: Two they'll bring down for the commentary.
- 8:46Speaker 2: I hope. So I'm there day one. So that was
- 8:52Speaker 2: my first selection for tonight, Jordan, What did you bring
- 8:58Speaker 2: for us?
- 9:00Speaker 7: Yeah, I've got a few here. I'll uh, let's see here,
- 9:06Speaker 7: let's start with uh, we'll start with this here. Since
- 9:10Speaker 7: on the top of the stack. This one actually got
- 9:12Speaker 7: a while ago from eighty eight Films, and it's a
- 9:16Speaker 7: from Alan Clark and it is his movie Scum Eightio
- 9:20Speaker 7: Films announced this quite a while ago. I picked it
- 9:22Speaker 7: up and just it sat on my shelf and never
- 9:23Speaker 7: watched it. And I think, was it like a week
- 9:26Speaker 7: or so ago. I popped it in tried to check
- 9:28Speaker 7: it out, and actually I really enjoyed it. It's a
- 9:32Speaker 7: very it's a it's a story that follows mainly this
- 9:39Speaker 7: I forget his name in the movie, him right there,
- 9:42Speaker 7: and he's it follows these group of kids that are
- 9:45Speaker 7: in this We would call it like a juvenile detention
- 9:47Speaker 7: center or you know, like a juvie. I forget what
- 9:51Speaker 7: they call it over in England and stuff, but it's
- 9:56Speaker 7: essentially it's that's what it is. But it's it's way
- 10:00Speaker 7: way worse than anything you can think.
- 10:01Speaker 2: So a juvenile offender institution.
- 10:04Speaker 7: Yeah, I forget what they call it. There's a name.
- 10:06Speaker 7: There's a certain name they call it in this movie
- 10:11Speaker 7: is say on the back.
- 10:13Speaker 6: Uh.
- 10:16Speaker 2: This movie was originally banned.
- 10:18Speaker 7: Yeah it uh it. So it follows a kind of
- 10:22Speaker 7: a story of a bunch of these kids with the
- 10:24Speaker 7: main kid his name in here, Carlin is his name.
- 10:29Speaker 7: He kind of becomes the ring leader of this uh
- 10:34Speaker 7: detention center, and it just follows their lives. The the
- 10:40Speaker 7: the guards are incredibly just horrendous people. The ending is
- 10:47Speaker 7: is is pretty wild. I don't want to say too much.
- 10:49Speaker 7: It's hard because this is one of those movies going
- 10:52Speaker 7: in blind I think is the best way to watch it. Yeah,
- 11:00Speaker 7: I really there's not much I could say without spoiling
- 11:03Speaker 7: too much. Like I guess part of this one's in
- 11:08Speaker 7: the trailer. Like this one kid, he's like eighteen, he's
- 11:11Speaker 7: in there and he gets a letter from home and
- 11:14Speaker 7: they kind of make fun of him about it, and
- 11:16Speaker 7: the letter is I don't know if it's his parents
- 11:20Speaker 7: or his wife's parents saying, hey, you know, basically we
- 11:23Speaker 7: had to bury her. She's dead. I haven't heard from
- 11:25Speaker 7: a while, so I thought i'd let you know why.
- 11:28Speaker 7: And he's like, what's going on? Who? She goes, well,
- 11:30Speaker 7: who is that? And he goes, that was my wife?
- 11:32Speaker 7: And it just has I mean, it's it's a rough
- 11:37Speaker 7: it's it's just a rough watch, you know. I know. Yeah,
- 11:42Speaker 7: I don't want to say too much about the movie.
- 11:43Speaker 7: It's just it's a great one. I really enjoyed it.
- 11:47Speaker 2: How is that release like as a whole? Did you
- 11:50Speaker 2: watch any of the bonus features?
- 11:51Speaker 7: I didn't get a chance to watch much of the
- 11:52Speaker 7: bonus features, to be honest. It's it's a rigid you know,
- 11:57Speaker 7: like limited edition eighty eight Films release four K four
- 12:00Speaker 7: K looks great. I'm looking on the back here, so
- 12:07Speaker 7: it's a new four K remaster. What I'm actually gonna
- 12:11Speaker 7: open this up here real quick and see of course
- 12:15Speaker 7: see fright in the back has nothing on it. Uh. Yeah,
- 12:20Speaker 7: I didn't get a chance to go through all the
- 12:22Speaker 7: special features on this. Unfortunately, the first time watch for you.
- 12:26Speaker 6: Or it was it was.
- 12:27Speaker 7: Yeah. I watched the trailer when they announced this, and
- 12:30Speaker 7: I was like, okay, Actually the reason I bought this
- 12:32Speaker 7: was so I thought, you know, my wife might like this.
- 12:36Speaker 7: I mean, she's into these type of just so she deals.
- 12:42Speaker 7: My wife does is a mental health therapist for teenagers
- 12:47Speaker 7: and stuff like, oh man, this might be good for it.
- 12:48Speaker 7: She did not like it. So it's that rough of
- 12:52Speaker 7: a movie. Yeah, it's it's just a hard look at
- 12:58Speaker 7: the lives that these kids have. And I think it's
- 13:00Speaker 7: based off of a true story too, if I remember correctly.
- 13:03Speaker 7: They since have closed down this, uh, these facilities that
- 13:07Speaker 7: they had at the time, but it was just a
- 13:12Speaker 7: way that they tortured these kids.
- 13:14Speaker 6: Yeah, terrible.
- 13:15Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 13:16Speaker 2: Is it barstool prison? Is that what the yes it
- 13:20Speaker 2: sounds about right, Yeah, yeah, named named. I think the
- 13:24Speaker 2: inspiration for Barstool sports.
- 13:28Speaker 7: Stop.
- 13:30Speaker 6: I will say eighty eight films, I feel like is
- 13:33Speaker 6: usually pretty consistent with all their releases, just with how
- 13:36Speaker 6: packed they are with you know, special features and just
- 13:39Speaker 6: how nice the releases look.
- 13:41Speaker 7: Yeah, so says Scum is a stark study of institutional
- 13:44Speaker 7: power and state sanctioned violence that refuses to bolts punches.
- 13:49Speaker 7: It's pretty accurate description.
- 13:55Speaker 2: Hell yeah, man, well thanks for bringing us some depth
- 13:57Speaker 2: for your first choice today.
- 13:58Speaker 7: Yeah, I'm not I'm not gonna promise it's gonna stay
- 14:02Speaker 7: that way, but start off at a serious note.
- 14:08Speaker 2: I'm just messing with you, man, Steve. I know you
- 14:11Speaker 2: always bring some hot and steamy stuff.
- 14:15Speaker 6: I don't think this first choice is gonna be like that.
- 14:17Speaker 6: I figured I'd ride off of Jordan's wave with this
- 14:20Speaker 6: next one. You know, definitely another feel good movie that
- 14:24Speaker 6: we could discuss. I've got none other than The Ugly
- 14:28Speaker 6: step Sister from Second Sight. I have heard nothing but
- 14:32Speaker 6: good things about this film from not only Jordan, but
- 14:36Speaker 6: a number of friends in our circle, and I said,
- 14:39Speaker 6: you know what, what the hell ended up picking it
- 14:43Speaker 6: up as a blind byb And for those of you
- 14:46Speaker 6: guys that aren't familiar with this film basically revolves around
- 14:50Speaker 6: a young woman who dreams of marrying the kingdom's prince,
- 14:52Speaker 6: but her beautiful stepsister becomes her greatest rival, and this
- 14:59Speaker 6: kind of revolves around the quest for physical perfection, which
- 15:03Speaker 6: she believes will win the prince's heart. I think would
- 15:06Speaker 6: be a way of putting it nicely, this is a
- 15:09Speaker 6: movie that I didn't really know what to expect with
- 15:13Speaker 6: it right off the bat. I had a good feeling
- 15:16Speaker 6: about this as soon as the score hit for this film.
- 15:20Speaker 6: Definitely felt like that there is some Eighties influence in
- 15:24Speaker 6: whether it's with the music or certain dream like sequences
- 15:28Speaker 6: throughout it. And I found myself just pulled into this one.
- 15:33Speaker 6: It was everything I was hoping for, especially as a
- 15:37Speaker 6: blind buy and more with it. But what really caught
- 15:41Speaker 6: my eye was the sequences of body horror. For it.
- 15:47Speaker 6: As somebody that is a big fan of like Cronenberg's
- 15:49Speaker 6: films and plenty of other notable body horror movies, this
- 15:53Speaker 6: was one that definitely caught my attention and I loved it.
- 15:58Speaker 6: I thought the four K transfer looked incredible. Definitely a
- 16:03Speaker 6: stacked release. Either of you guys seen I know Jordan
- 16:07Speaker 6: has Chris have you seen it?
- 16:09Speaker 2: I have not.
- 16:09Speaker 6: No, this one was a good one. I'm so happy
- 16:13Speaker 6: that I picked this one up. With this release, there's
- 16:17Speaker 6: a number of new audio commentaries that have been included
- 16:19Speaker 6: in on here. We've got a couple of new interviews
- 16:22Speaker 6: with uh the director and some of the actors in
- 16:27Speaker 6: this film, and it comes in a rigid slipcase or
- 16:33Speaker 6: like a hard box. I I just I was thoroughly
- 16:39Speaker 6: impressed with this release, and this is definitely going to
- 16:43Speaker 6: be a film that I'm going to be coming back
- 16:45Speaker 6: to time and time again.
- 16:46Speaker 2: Well, there's no US release right for Ugly Stepsister.
- 16:52Speaker 6: Not that I know. Yeah, not that I'm aware of.
- 16:55Speaker 2: Damn.
- 16:55Speaker 7: I wonder why it's I know it's on shutter, so
- 16:59Speaker 7: you know, maybe either it will be a blueberry.
- 17:00Speaker 2: Or something doing vinegar syndrome.
- 17:02Speaker 7: Blueh No vineger syndrome is too worried about all their
- 17:06Speaker 7: other other c.
- 17:11Speaker 6: I will I will say, Chris, I know you would
- 17:13Speaker 6: be thoroughly happy with this. There's one hundred and twenty
- 17:17Speaker 6: page booklet with it, and the riches slipcase features new
- 17:21Speaker 6: artwork by am Bembi, which I thought was pretty cool.
- 17:25Speaker 6: But overall, I mean second Sight delivers as always. I
- 17:29Speaker 6: really really love this release.
- 17:31Speaker 7: Did you watch the special features on this one? Did
- 17:34Speaker 7: you get a chance to check them out?
- 17:36Speaker 6: I watched. I was well, I was watching a few
- 17:39Speaker 6: of the interviews, ones with the director and one one's
- 17:42Speaker 6: with the actor or one of the actors. I think
- 17:44Speaker 6: it was uh Leah Mirren.
- 17:48Speaker 7: Yeah, she is I don't remember which one. She's the
- 17:53Speaker 7: Elvira right, Yes, the main character.
- 17:59Speaker 6: The girl that go for hell dude mildly.
- 18:04Speaker 7: Yeah. What's so crazy is this movie actually got nominated
- 18:06Speaker 7: for an oscar in Special Effects. Mm hmm, yeah, because
- 18:13Speaker 7: I definitely gonna watch. You should watch the They have
- 18:16Speaker 7: two special features, one with the interview that they like
- 18:20Speaker 7: they did with the other ones with these special effects
- 18:22Speaker 7: makeup artists, but also one where he breaks down every
- 18:26Speaker 7: effect that he used in the movie. And even like
- 18:29Speaker 7: early on all the when she's you know, I hate
- 18:33Speaker 7: to use this word, but she's she hasn't grown into
- 18:36Speaker 7: her body, so she's younger. She's got some you know,
- 18:38Speaker 7: little puffy r cheeks. All that stuff is practical effects
- 18:41Speaker 7: of prosthetics they put on her face. M wild, it looked,
- 18:46Speaker 7: it looked real. How well it was.
- 18:49Speaker 2: I remember I showed my wife the trailer for this,
- 18:53Speaker 2: like not long ago, and the music in the trailer
- 18:57Speaker 2: threw me off so much. It was like a tech No.
- 19:01Speaker 2: It reminds me of like the Substance trail.
- 19:03Speaker 7: They do a lot of like dream sequences. They're so
- 19:07Speaker 7: good where that music comes in and there's even a
- 19:10Speaker 7: dance number where it kind of has that as well.
- 19:13Speaker 2: Interesting okay, okay.
- 19:20Speaker 7: But what I say it's so cool about that movie though,
- 19:23Speaker 7: is it flips the Cinderella story on its head. Like
- 19:27Speaker 7: there are aspects in the film of the whole magical,
- 19:30Speaker 7: whimsical pumpkin and at the more at the end, but
- 19:35Speaker 7: it's almost as everyone. So the Disney one is basically
- 19:43Speaker 7: the story goes the beautiful perfect one you know, wins
- 19:48Speaker 7: that's you know, and you see Cinderella as this fair
- 19:52Speaker 7: perfect version of Cinderella, and this one's not really not
- 19:57Speaker 7: really the case. She's not the greatest of a person
- 20:00Speaker 7: in this movie.
- 20:01Speaker 6: Okay, okay, So what you're saying is this makes for
- 20:04Speaker 6: the perfect double future with Cinderella. The Disney One.
- 20:07Speaker 7: Yeah, yeah, you know, play that and then when we
- 20:10Speaker 7: came to bed watch The Ugly Stepsister.
- 20:12Speaker 2: Yeah, well great pick. Second side is always knocking it
- 20:17Speaker 2: out of the part.
- 20:17Speaker 6: Oh my god.
- 20:18Speaker 2: Sure, I'm sure it's a stellar, stellar release.
- 20:22Speaker 6: It gave me some confidence going in on this blind by,
- 20:27Speaker 6: especially with them backing it, and I feel like that
- 20:29Speaker 6: they always do outstanding work. So here's to another exceptional release.
- 20:35Speaker 6: Second Site with this one.
- 20:37Speaker 2: Yeah, I feel like I can pretty much confidently buy
- 20:39Speaker 2: anything they put out really without you know, I mean,
- 20:43Speaker 2: I didn't rush to pick this one up because, to
- 20:45Speaker 2: be fair, it wasn't a movie I was overly interested
- 20:48Speaker 2: in outside of like, it wasn't, you know, but like
- 20:51Speaker 2: I already pre ordered The Devil's Candy and Insomnia, and
- 20:54Speaker 2: I've actually never seen Insomnia, but I'm very familiar with
- 20:57Speaker 2: The Devil's Candy.
- 21:01Speaker 6: I think that there's a certain standard, at least I
- 21:04Speaker 6: feel like with a lot of these Second Site releases,
- 21:06Speaker 6: even the past ones, it just feels like they very
- 21:10Speaker 6: carefully curate their collection with the films that they choose
- 21:13Speaker 6: to bring in there. And this wasn't a movie I
- 21:16Speaker 6: heard a lot about prior to its release. So to
- 21:20Speaker 6: see it get all this praise afterwards, and to hear,
- 21:23Speaker 6: especially within the horror community, just how many people seem
- 21:26Speaker 6: to really, you know, latch onto this one. I don't know.
- 21:30Speaker 6: It's always cool. It's a movie the winner to the
- 21:32Speaker 6: radar for me. Yeah.
- 21:34Speaker 2: Yeah. What's now available on Shutter also now available available
- 21:38Speaker 2: physical media from Second Size Films. I think most of
- 21:41Speaker 2: your retailers should probably still have it in stock. I
- 21:44Speaker 2: haven't heard going out or anything, how many of you
- 21:48Speaker 2: guys are are fans of the Hitcher remake.
- 21:54Speaker 6: You're giving me a reason to go back and revisit it,
- 21:57Speaker 6: just like you did with Final Destination.
- 22:00Speaker 7: It's been so long since I've seen the remake.
- 22:03Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, we talked about it very lightly on our
- 22:07Speaker 2: interview with Clark Callis for his book. I kind of
- 22:10Speaker 2: mentioned that I had just watched this, But yeah, I
- 22:13Speaker 2: have a DVD copy of The Hitcher from twosy and seven.
- 22:16Speaker 2: This is directed by I think David Burr or Dave
- 22:19Speaker 2: Myers is a director. Such an interesting movie and kind
- 22:23Speaker 2: of the history. Like two thousand and seven, I was
- 22:27Speaker 2: a sophomore in high school. This came out the Platinum
- 22:30Speaker 2: Dunes Films. Really gave me like a lot of like
- 22:37Speaker 2: I call it my gateway drug into the original films. Right,
- 22:40Speaker 2: obviously already knew Texas Chainsaw Mascer, but amite Villeharr the
- 22:43Speaker 2: original I saw through the remake and so forth. The
- 22:48Speaker 2: Hitcher was a movie I loved back like two thousand
- 22:52Speaker 2: and seven to like twenty ten, I would have told
- 22:56Speaker 2: you this was one of my favorite like films of
- 23:00Speaker 2: all time. You had Sophia Bush, She's incredible. You have
- 23:04Speaker 2: Sean Bean as the Hitcher. You have some pretty cool
- 23:10Speaker 2: like car crash chase sequences, of course, the iconic moment
- 23:16Speaker 2: where a character is pulled in half when he's attached
- 23:18Speaker 2: to a truck and a trailer pulled in half. And
- 23:24Speaker 2: I still want to say that I enjoy it, Like,
- 23:27Speaker 2: I still think this is an enjoyable remake, but the
- 23:31Speaker 2: original Hitcher is just so good it kind of I
- 23:37Speaker 2: have a hard time putting them anywhere near in the
- 23:40Speaker 2: same category. And I think, what's most interesting that I
- 23:43Speaker 2: thought about for a long time after I watched this
- 23:46Speaker 2: was how like the Hitcher is pretty like consistent with
- 23:56Speaker 2: the original, Like it doesn't do a whole lot different
- 23:59Speaker 2: from the orig Joannal, you know, and times have changed
- 24:05Speaker 2: so much from eighty six to twenty seven, and that
- 24:09Speaker 2: twenty year gap and the X excessive I would say
- 24:17Speaker 2: violence actually kind of turned me away from this remake
- 24:21Speaker 2: a little bit. It's almost like too much. It feels
- 24:25Speaker 2: like it's trying to be a classical like suspenseful thriller story,
- 24:29Speaker 2: but it has to be a like a torture of
- 24:32Speaker 2: porn film at the same time.
- 24:33Speaker 6: Very much at the time, I feel like, yeah.
- 24:36Speaker 2: It's kind of trying to be both and trying to
- 24:38Speaker 2: appease both. It also has this like of the time
- 24:42Speaker 2: music video kind of visual quality to it. It starts
- 24:46Speaker 2: right away. It's so funny. Man. I was watching this
- 24:48Speaker 2: and for the first twenty five minutes I had no
- 24:51Speaker 2: idea that our two characters were a couple because they
- 24:54Speaker 2: never kiss, They just hug. And then at some point
- 24:59Speaker 2: they mentioned boyfriend Chris.
- 25:00Speaker 6: Maybe they're taking it slow.
- 25:02Speaker 2: Yeah, maybe they are. Maybe they're taking it incredibly slow.
- 25:06Speaker 2: But I just I had no idea. I thought they
- 25:08Speaker 2: were brother's sister. I was like, oh wow, really close
- 25:10Speaker 2: brothers and brother and sister. Obviously I knew they were
- 25:14Speaker 2: a couple from seeing the movie before. I was like,
- 25:18Speaker 2: I was like, interesting that this is a couple who
- 25:21Speaker 2: he picks her up from college, so clearly it's been
- 25:23Speaker 2: a while since he's seen her, and she didn't even
- 25:26Speaker 2: give him a kiss.
- 25:27Speaker 7: M just give a little high five. What's up?
- 25:35Speaker 2: So yeah, yeah, you know, it's an enjoyable watch. I
- 25:38Speaker 2: do feel like it's kind of interesting how my brain
- 25:40Speaker 2: is turning away from this era so much. There's still
- 25:44Speaker 2: you know, Texas Chainsmasker I Love from three Friday The
- 25:47Speaker 2: thirteenth nine. I love, but the Abityville horror with the
- 25:51Speaker 2: Ryan Reynolds one I've actually turned away from. I've become
- 25:55Speaker 2: less of a fan of, and I do feel like
- 25:57Speaker 2: that a little bit. With The Hitcher, I do feel
- 26:00Speaker 2: like I've kind of gotten to the age where I'm like,
- 26:02Speaker 2: you know, I prefer the original, But just for the
- 26:05Speaker 2: sheer impact that this movie had on me at the
- 26:07Speaker 2: time that it came out, I needed to have it
- 26:10Speaker 2: in a collection, and you know, revisiting it was nostalgic.
- 26:13Speaker 2: And I will say too, the o Lad does a
- 26:17Speaker 2: very nice job with these DVDs.
- 26:20Speaker 6: I can imagine it.
- 26:21Speaker 2: Looked pretty good. They don't look fantastic. They of the
- 26:23Speaker 2: Dead too, look like shit.
- 26:28Speaker 6: I don't know how much you could do for that movie.
- 26:30Speaker 2: The Hitcher looked pretty good. So yeah, my second pick
- 26:34Speaker 2: was The Hitcher from two thousand and seven.
- 26:37Speaker 6: So where would the stack up in some of the
- 26:39Speaker 6: horror remakes that we got around that time, It's like
- 26:43Speaker 6: mid tier.
- 26:45Speaker 2: Yeah, I would say if top tier is Texas is
- 26:47Speaker 2: Texas Chainsaw three, then I would say this is like
- 26:51Speaker 2: mid tier.
- 26:52Speaker 6: Okay, what about you?
- 26:53Speaker 2: Where would you guys? Where would you guys like what
- 26:55Speaker 2: do you think is the best of the remake?
- 26:59Speaker 7: Oh? Man, well, touch shows on Asker three is definitely
- 27:03Speaker 7: up there. Bet. Yeah, I really like the Friday the
- 27:06Speaker 7: Thirteenth three. I do too, you know, That's that's one
- 27:09Speaker 7: that's up there for me too. So that's hard.
- 27:12Speaker 6: That's like a comfort movie for me. I don't know
- 27:14Speaker 6: what it is. I think it's especially around the time
- 27:16Speaker 6: for either of those films, more so Friday the Thirteenth.
- 27:19Speaker 6: I remember going with like a whole group of friends
- 27:21Speaker 6: went to the theater to go see it. You know,
- 27:23Speaker 6: it's just kind of have that association with it, you know,
- 27:28Speaker 6: just kind of in the midst of really getting into
- 27:30Speaker 6: horror like that at that specific moment in time.
- 27:34Speaker 2: Yeah, I feel like growing up too is realizing that
- 27:38Speaker 2: the Friday the Thirteenth remake is also a continuation of
- 27:40Speaker 2: Trent's story from Transformers and this is who he becomes.
- 27:45Speaker 7: Oh what are you talking?
- 27:49Speaker 2: The same actor, same name, asshole a dick in both movies.
- 27:57Speaker 2: Hey man, the Michael Bay Universe.
- 28:00Speaker 6: Listen, Derek Mears. Derek is a unit.
- 28:04Speaker 2: He is a unit. I will never forget that shot
- 28:07Speaker 2: at the end of the campfire scene in like the
- 28:09Speaker 2: prologue of the movie. Oh when he runs, yes, terrifying. Yeah,
- 28:15Speaker 2: that's great. And in fact that he hung her up
- 28:17Speaker 2: in the sleeping bag over the fire.
- 28:20Speaker 6: It's a shame that we never got to follow up
- 28:22Speaker 6: to that.
- 28:25Speaker 2: Yeah, we should have. Now we have an eight twenty
- 28:28Speaker 2: four television show.
- 28:29Speaker 7: Hey, what's her name?
- 28:31Speaker 6: Cautiously optimistic, Yeah, we'll say.
- 28:37Speaker 2: Jordan or Chris.
- 28:40Speaker 6: He's not doing well. First Day of the Dead two.
- 28:43Speaker 2: Now I'm getting there, right, just slowly getting I promise
- 28:47Speaker 2: you this, this next one is going to be exceedingly positive.
- 28:50Speaker 6: From it, probably the thirteenth TV series HEAs it down.
- 28:54Speaker 2: They'd be like, were I'm gonna I'm gonna talk about
- 28:55Speaker 2: episode four of season two of Friday the series, Jordan,
- 29:00Speaker 2: what do you got for me?
- 29:01Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 29:02Speaker 7: The next one I have here it is a new
- 29:04Speaker 7: Vinegar Cinder release and it is going to be Demon Warp.
- 29:08Speaker 7: This is a fun uh starts off as a bigfoot
- 29:13Speaker 7: creature feature in film, and it quickly turns into like
- 29:18Speaker 7: the last half hour, maybe it becomes a zombie alien
- 29:25Speaker 7: cult movie. It completely flips on you right at the end.
- 29:29Speaker 7: I mean it kind of opens up as kind of
- 29:31Speaker 7: a cult opens up with a priest walking his horse
- 29:34Speaker 7: to where this meteor falls into the earth. I don't know.
- 29:41Speaker 7: Maybe it's a priestly thing to walk a horse. I
- 29:43Speaker 7: don't know. He's riding this horse or see now you
- 29:47Speaker 7: got to me messed up. He's walking this horse over
- 29:50Speaker 7: as he's saying a prayer. And that's how it opens.
- 29:54Speaker 2: But you have.
- 29:57Speaker 7: George Kennedy is that his name. He's kind of the
- 30:02Speaker 7: main actor or the star actor of this movie. He
- 30:07Speaker 7: plays this guy whose daughter gets killed and taken away
- 30:14Speaker 7: by this bigfoot creature, and so he has become this
- 30:18Speaker 7: mountain man that lives in these hills looking for her
- 30:22Speaker 7: and this creature and warning off anybody who comes in
- 30:25Speaker 7: the area. Interesting. The main story is there's these group
- 30:30Speaker 7: of friends are going up to this guy's cabin where
- 30:34Speaker 7: that his uncle owns. Who they think they're gonna go
- 30:37Speaker 7: have a party and hang out, and really the kid
- 30:41Speaker 7: is going there to find his uncle because his uncle disappeared,
- 30:46Speaker 7: and he finds out, they find out quickly, you know
- 30:50Speaker 7: what happens. But it's a fun movie. It's not a
- 30:55Speaker 7: good movie. I'm gonna tell you that. It's one of
- 30:58Speaker 7: those so bad it's good type of films. What's funny
- 31:02Speaker 7: is the Bigfoot creature is literally they said they got
- 31:06Speaker 7: a gorilla costume and got him in watronic lips, so
- 31:11Speaker 7: could start. And that's about the peak of the out
- 31:14Speaker 7: the costume for this Bigfoot character. But in this you're
- 31:19Speaker 7: getting some interviews, some really great ones. You're getting uh
- 31:22Speaker 7: trying to find uh where we got on here? Uh
- 31:26Speaker 7: So you're getting ah interview called uh so, so there's
- 31:32Speaker 7: hold on all over the place. Best some breasts with
- 31:36Speaker 7: actress Michelle Michelle Bauer, So you got one with her,
- 31:41Speaker 7: and she has a very small role in this. You've
- 31:45Speaker 7: got one. Some of it was stupid, which is the writer.
- 31:48Speaker 7: And then this one, which was my favorite of Aesthetic
- 31:51Speaker 7: Beauty and Bigfoot, which is with the DP Michael Stringer,
- 31:55Speaker 7: and he talks about the main guy in this movie,
- 31:58Speaker 7: and he's the one where his uncle owns cabin. He
- 32:01Speaker 7: like did went into method acting for this movie. And
- 32:04Speaker 7: in this movie, this guy he's he's you could tell
- 32:07Speaker 7: he's got some gun handling experience, the character. And so
- 32:11Speaker 7: he's sitting there with a rifle and the DP goes
- 32:14Speaker 7: up to him to talk to him, and he sees
- 32:15Speaker 7: a box of live rounds of ammunition that the actor
- 32:19Speaker 7: put in the rifle. He's like, what are you doing?
- 32:22Speaker 7: He goes, why, God, I have motivation to use this.
- 32:26Speaker 7: He goes, you're you can't do that. So he's like,
- 32:29Speaker 7: I had to go to the armor and like, hey,
- 32:31Speaker 7: you know what, keep an eye on him the whole time. Anyways, dude,
- 32:36Speaker 7: there's some stories in this, but man, it's uh, it's
- 32:40Speaker 7: a lot of fun. There's a there's a character in
- 32:43Speaker 7: there where he kind of becomes a zombie near the inn.
- 32:46Speaker 7: It almost reminds me of an American War from London
- 32:49Speaker 7: where his friend is kind of just his cracking jokes
- 32:54Speaker 7: kind of character who's slowly rotting away. That's what he
- 32:57Speaker 7: kind of reminded me of in this movie. Yeah, this
- 33:00Speaker 7: movie is a trip. I had a lot of fun
- 33:02Speaker 7: with it. It's a four K from vinegar syndrome, so
- 33:04Speaker 7: you know it's gonna look good.
- 33:06Speaker 2: I've heard nothing, Yeah, I've heard nothing but the zeniest
- 33:09Speaker 2: about this movie.
- 33:10Speaker 7: Dude. I mean to go from a bigfoot story to
- 33:16Speaker 7: going into a cave seeing zombies walk around, and then
- 33:20Speaker 7: turning a corner and going into an alien space space
- 33:23Speaker 7: craft with like a demon scorpion king looking thing sitting there.
- 33:29Speaker 7: It's it's pretty wild.
- 33:32Speaker 2: Well is this is this still available from Vinegar Syndrome?
- 33:36Speaker 6: Do you know?
- 33:36Speaker 7: Off? I'm sure it is. It's one. It's from their
- 33:39Speaker 7: main Vinegar Syndrome line, so I think it's like there's
- 33:41Speaker 7: probably like two thousand on the left.
- 33:43Speaker 2: Jesus, all right, it's called Demon Warp, right, Demon Warp Okay, yeah,
- 33:49Speaker 2: Demon Warp from there.
- 33:51Speaker 7: Is uh, let's see where is the I don't even
- 33:58Speaker 7: see I mean I have it, Okay, doesn't even have
- 34:02Speaker 7: the list, I don't see it. And they made seven thousand,
- 34:04Speaker 7: so I know there's quite a bit of them.
- 34:06Speaker 2: Seven thousand. Yeah, funny, how like they make seven thousand
- 34:10Speaker 2: of this, but the most in demand stuff, they're like,
- 34:12Speaker 2: we made two.
- 34:13Speaker 7: Over two thousand left in socks, so you guys are
- 34:15Speaker 7: good on Vender Central's website.
- 34:18Speaker 2: Okay, all right, Demon Warp plenty available over at Vinegary
- 34:21Speaker 2: Syndrome dot com.
- 34:22Speaker 7: Yeah, it's uh yeah, it's a movie for sure.
- 34:26Speaker 6: Steve.
- 34:26Speaker 2: I'm begging for hot and see me here please.
- 34:33Speaker 6: Okay, I've got you covered then, Okay, you want hot,
- 34:38Speaker 6: see me, I've got you covered with none other than.
- 34:43Speaker 2: Shade, thank god.
- 34:45Speaker 6: Imprint, don't. I don't know if I would classify that
- 34:51Speaker 6: as hot or see me. But so this four K
- 34:56Speaker 6: box set from Imprint, I was super stoked to get
- 34:59Speaker 6: my hands it finally. I know I'd alluded to it,
- 35:02Speaker 6: I think on the last episode because we talked about
- 35:04Speaker 6: the Last Deduction and plenty of other erotic thrillers. That
- 35:08Speaker 6: was a very steamy episode of After Hours. But coming
- 35:13Speaker 6: at you guys, live with Jade this time around, and
- 35:17Speaker 6: for either of you guys, you guys have bost seen
- 35:19Speaker 6: this movie? Right?
- 35:20Speaker 2: Oh? Yeah, I love this movie.
- 35:22Speaker 6: What was your impressions of this? On first watch?
- 35:27Speaker 2: It feels like, uh, and maybe it's just the David
- 35:30Speaker 2: Cruzo of it all, but it just feels like a
- 35:32Speaker 2: really long episode of CSI.
- 35:34Speaker 7: Yeah, it does.
- 35:37Speaker 6: A little bit more erotic.
- 35:39Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean it's like a CSI was put on
- 35:42Speaker 7: HBO or something.
- 35:44Speaker 2: Yeah, it is, Oh dude, it is like, uh, it
- 35:47Speaker 2: is kind of like a Skinamax.
- 35:49Speaker 6: Yes.
- 35:49Speaker 2: Oh, look, we got William Freakin to direct an episode
- 35:52Speaker 2: of CSI Criminal Sex Investigators. You know what I mean?
- 35:57Speaker 6: I definitely will say Jade I don't think is one
- 36:00Speaker 6: of Freakin's better films. But I appreciate it for what
- 36:07Speaker 6: it is.
- 36:08Speaker 2: You know, I will say that Jade doesn't. It didn't
- 36:13Speaker 2: lean as much into the erotic part as I was
- 36:16Speaker 2: expecting it to.
- 36:17Speaker 6: For sure.
- 36:18Speaker 2: If everything the most of the erotic thriller part is
- 36:23Speaker 2: shot through like voyeurism style through recorded, you know what
- 36:27Speaker 2: I mean. Like it it feels a little bit more background.
- 36:30Speaker 7: Well it's not even but you don't even get any
- 36:33Speaker 7: of that till the end. Really like the latter part
- 36:35Speaker 7: of the film.
- 36:37Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I mean there is an excellent car chase. Well, yeah,
- 36:43Speaker 2: that's pretty hot.
- 36:44Speaker 7: Well how about that.
- 36:46Speaker 6: I mean, Chris has been watching Crash many times.
- 36:49Speaker 7: I don't know, Sorry this is a spoiler, but that
- 36:52Speaker 7: lady gets just destroyed by that car. Yeah, she's walking
- 36:57Speaker 7: across the street.
- 37:00Speaker 2: Yeah, this is like I remember really liking it, but
- 37:06Speaker 2: I definitely remember being a little bit like I felt
- 37:08Speaker 2: like I was a little over sold on some elements
- 37:14Speaker 2: of it. But as always, and I think I said
- 37:16Speaker 2: this on the last episode, Linda Fiarantino is incredible, and
- 37:20Speaker 2: I love that Chaz Commonaris in this as well.
- 37:24Speaker 6: Yeah he's incredible.
- 37:25Speaker 2: Yeah, so he's great. But the David Caruso of it
- 37:27Speaker 2: all is just.
- 37:29Speaker 6: Two.
- 37:29Speaker 2: It's like you can't look at him without thinking about
- 37:32Speaker 2: CSI Miami. I don't care how young he is. He's
- 37:34Speaker 2: one of those weird guys where like it's like the
- 37:37Speaker 2: only distinguishing feature of him getting older is like his hair.
- 37:40Speaker 2: I don't know so, but you know if you have
- 37:45Speaker 2: some bonus features on there produced by our podcast, that's
- 37:49Speaker 2: true owners, So.
- 37:52Speaker 6: It's very true.
- 37:53Speaker 7: My bean's in there too. I forgot m hm.
- 37:57Speaker 6: This release is stacked. You've got so you got three
- 38:01Speaker 6: different discs that are on here. So you obviously got
- 38:04Speaker 6: the four K restoration, which provides both theatrical and director's cut.
- 38:10Speaker 6: You get the audio commentaries on here. You actually have
- 38:13Speaker 6: I believe three in the four K, including Will Dotson
- 38:18Speaker 6: from Someone's Favorite Productions on there. Ye, let's see disc two.
- 38:23Speaker 6: We have the Blu Ray. This also has a handful
- 38:28Speaker 6: of commentaries on it as well, so quite a few
- 38:32Speaker 6: of these are actually newer. There's a video essay from
- 38:36Speaker 6: film critic Michelle Kissner. And then we also have the
- 38:42Speaker 6: Blu Ray documentary on disc three called The Kid Stays
- 38:45Speaker 6: in the Picture also features an audio commentary on here
- 38:50Speaker 6: by directors Nannette Bursting and Brett Morgan, and then there's
- 38:55Speaker 6: a number of featurettes on here. So if you know
- 38:59Speaker 6: anyone listening, if you're a fan of erotic thrillers of
- 39:03Speaker 6: the nineties, this one is definitely no exception. I think
- 39:08Speaker 6: of this as probably one of the more important ones
- 39:11Speaker 6: that come to mine around this time. I won't say
- 39:14Speaker 6: it's the best, but I appreciate it for what it is.
- 39:17Speaker 2: Did this pour over any of the Vinegar Syndrome bonus features? Oh,
- 39:21Speaker 2: that's a good question, because there was, As if.
- 39:25Speaker 7: I remember quickly, it does minus like one because.
- 39:28Speaker 2: There there's an interview on the Vinegar Syndrome disc with
- 39:31Speaker 2: the editors. It's I think it's called like something on Freaking,
- 39:36Speaker 2: and it's this incredibly honest, fun interview about what it
- 39:40Speaker 2: was like working with William Freaking and how the editor
- 39:42Speaker 2: kind of became Freaking's main editor. And it's a lot
- 39:47Speaker 2: of fun to kind of hear the antecdotes about what
- 39:50Speaker 2: it was like working with him and sort of the
- 39:52Speaker 2: pressures of working with him. It's very, very fun, very
- 39:56Speaker 2: very great.
- 39:57Speaker 7: Watch interview with assistant editor Darren Navarrow.
- 40:00Speaker 2: Yeah, there's two of them in the In the interview,
- 40:05Speaker 2: I think it was the editor and the assistant interview
- 40:07Speaker 2: editor for the for the Vinegar Syndrome, I'm curious.
- 40:14Speaker 6: I will say either way, you know, if you like
- 40:18Speaker 6: this movie, you want to pick it up. There's a
- 40:19Speaker 6: four K that's from Vinegar Syndrome that I think is
- 40:23Speaker 6: just as good.
- 40:24Speaker 2: Yeah, it's called Erical Blindness. William Freaking a Paramount a
- 40:27Speaker 2: feature with editor algi hess An, assistant editor Darren Navarro. Sorry,
- 40:31Speaker 2: Steve Good.
- 40:32Speaker 6: Oh no, no, it's all good. But I feel like
- 40:34Speaker 6: if you really love a movie like this, same with
- 40:37Speaker 6: the Last Deduction, these are movies that I felt like
- 40:40Speaker 6: I could justify getting the larger box set, totally recommend.
- 40:45Speaker 6: I don't regret getting either of them.
- 40:46Speaker 2: So I think my main complaint about the Vinegars Yndrome
- 40:51Speaker 2: one is just the artwork.
- 40:53Speaker 6: Yeah, it kind of missed the mark for me.
- 40:56Speaker 2: It's very strange.
- 40:57Speaker 7: To answer your question, Chris, I don't see it in
- 41:01Speaker 7: the imprint.
- 41:03Speaker 2: Okay, okay, So yeah that that's such a great, like
- 41:08Speaker 2: twenty minute interview with them that I wish, you know,
- 41:10Speaker 2: they were able to pour it over for people. But
- 41:12Speaker 2: if you have the video Cinder one and you haven't
- 41:14Speaker 2: listened to that yet, absolutely worth it.
- 41:17Speaker 7: I just want to say though, for Jade, I think
- 41:20Speaker 7: that has one of the best openings. The opening was
- 41:23Speaker 7: it the POV shot going up the stairs. You got
- 41:26Speaker 7: the mask taking the shot or taking the turn, and
- 41:29Speaker 7: you hear the guy getting murdered.
- 41:31Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, very good.
- 41:34Speaker 7: It's it's almost a horror film opening shot. That's how
- 41:37Speaker 7: it feels.
- 41:38Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, it really leans into that thriller.
- 41:41Speaker 6: Yeah genre Jordan, you got the last production right? Did
- 41:45Speaker 6: you get the box set?
- 41:45Speaker 2: I did?
- 41:46Speaker 7: Yeah, from imprint.
- 41:47Speaker 6: Did you watch it?
- 41:48Speaker 7: I haven't had a chance to yet. Okay, that's on
- 41:51Speaker 7: my list. I actually I think I haven't supposed to
- 41:53Speaker 7: watch it this week.
- 41:55Speaker 6: Next month, we'll circle back. I just want to see
- 41:57Speaker 6: which one you like out of the two.
- 41:58Speaker 2: We'll circle back. So for my next pick, I decided
- 42:04Speaker 2: that I wanted to get into the Halloween spirit a
- 42:08Speaker 2: little bit earlier, and I decided to sit down and
- 42:11Speaker 2: watch Halloween three Season of The Witch on four K
- 42:15Speaker 2: from Screen Factory.
- 42:17Speaker 7: That's so good.
- 42:18Speaker 2: And I am pretty much I feel like sold that
- 42:22Speaker 2: this is my favorite Halloween film. I mean, every time
- 42:27Speaker 2: I watch it, I love it even more. And it's
- 42:30Speaker 2: so like you have Dean Kundi returning right after shooting
- 42:34Speaker 2: Halloween and Halloween two. You have Tommy Lee Wallace stepping
- 42:38Speaker 2: up as director. You have what Halloween two was supposed
- 42:43Speaker 2: to be originally, which is a movie that takes place
- 42:46Speaker 2: in a world where Halloween exists, but it's a new
- 42:49Speaker 2: story taking place on Halloween. And the scale of Halloween
- 42:53Speaker 2: three is gigantic. So for those who don't know Halloween three,
- 42:57Speaker 2: we follow Tom Atkins, who plays a doctor who kind
- 43:03Speaker 2: of gets entangled in a mystery that unfolds to be
- 43:07Speaker 2: about a stolen Stonehenge plate and world domination by an
- 43:13Speaker 2: Irish bad guy.
- 43:15Speaker 7: Hey, and he is just slinging dick.
- 43:17Speaker 2: He is. Yeah, tom Akins is always slinging dick. Yeah,
- 43:20Speaker 2: tom Akins is on the case. He he's look, dude,
- 43:24Speaker 2: look he's he's the man in this movie. He's he's uh,
- 43:27Speaker 2: he's a supplying the homeless with with alcohol.
- 43:32Speaker 6: What does he say? Uh? He's like, I don't got
- 43:35Speaker 6: no diseases or nothing. I'm like, okay, okay, so it
- 43:38Speaker 6: checks out.
- 43:38Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm gonna.
- 43:41Speaker 6: It was a different time back then.
- 43:43Speaker 2: I would love to know the average age gap between
- 43:47Speaker 2: tom Akins and every woman he sleeps with in any
- 43:50Speaker 2: of his movies.
- 43:51Speaker 7: I feel like tom Akins has been the same age
- 43:54Speaker 7: since Halloween three.
- 43:55Speaker 2: Yes not aged, Yes, yeah, he has since like the
- 43:59Speaker 2: fog you know know what I mean, the same it's.
- 44:03Speaker 7: That mustache man telling you ever since Croup show holds
- 44:07Speaker 7: all his power.
- 44:09Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, No, He's great. I just love I love
- 44:14Speaker 2: this movie's ability to build fantastic suspense. And when I
- 44:22Speaker 2: say that, I say that mostly concerning the ending sequence,
- 44:28Speaker 2: which I think is one of the greatest moments in
- 44:31Speaker 2: eighties horror just in general, which is like, I'm gonna
- 44:36Speaker 2: spoil this old ass Halloween film for anybody who hasn't
- 44:40Speaker 2: because I don't feel like looking a few year and.
- 44:42Speaker 6: I envy anyone who hasn't seen this movie.
- 44:45Speaker 2: Yeah, the ending of the movie, we learn that basically
- 44:50Speaker 2: every single child who has purchased these shamrock masks is
- 44:54Speaker 2: going to wear them in front of the TV and
- 44:56Speaker 2: their head's gonna get squished and turned into bugs and
- 44:59Speaker 2: they're all gonna And there's this incredible moment when tom
- 45:02Speaker 2: Atkins finally makes it to the same gas station from
- 45:07Speaker 2: the beginning of the film to call the network to
- 45:11Speaker 2: have them to try to convince them to turn off
- 45:13Speaker 2: the channel because the commercial is beginning and the sequence
- 45:17Speaker 2: doesn't just go once they they stop that, and then
- 45:20Speaker 2: he changes channel and it's on the next channel, and
- 45:23Speaker 2: he's urging them to turn off, to shut it off.
- 45:25Speaker 2: It's on the second channel. Shut it off, shut it off,
- 45:28Speaker 2: and then they shut it off and he flips it
- 45:30Speaker 2: and it's still on channel three.
- 45:32Speaker 6: Screen and stop it at the end, well top it.
- 45:35Speaker 7: All the while this little kid is watching.
- 45:37Speaker 2: Yeah, because the parents pulled up and he runs in
- 45:40Speaker 2: to see it.
- 45:41Speaker 7: Which my thing is, why didn't you just unplug the TV?
- 45:45Speaker 2: Well? I think he's not trying to save directly the
- 45:48Speaker 2: kids standing there, but in general all the kids save one.
- 45:52Speaker 7: Yeah, only one.
- 45:54Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 45:55Speaker 6: Shout out to don Post with those masks.
- 45:58Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, yeah. It's uh, it's an incredible moment that
- 46:02Speaker 2: still I've seen this movie one hundred times and I
- 46:05Speaker 2: know what that ending sequence is, but it still gets me. Yeah,
- 46:08Speaker 2: it's so tom Akins' performance is incredible. It's it's this
- 46:13Speaker 2: perfect moment of just cutting back and forth between him
- 46:15Speaker 2: and the commercial playing. And we've seen the commercial so
- 46:18Speaker 2: many times leading up to the scene that we know
- 46:22Speaker 2: where we're at in the commercial, and we know that
- 46:24Speaker 2: we're only getting closer to the official all right, kids,
- 46:28Speaker 2: I to put on the masks ending doom.
- 46:31Speaker 6: Yeah about that opener, Oh dude, it's it's so oh man.
- 46:38Speaker 6: This movie is easily probably one of the high points
- 46:41Speaker 6: from the decade, and it's it's again. It's another comfort
- 46:45Speaker 6: movie that you can come back to, whether it's close
- 46:48Speaker 6: to Halloween or you know, even with Chris watching it
- 46:51Speaker 6: in March, I still think that this movie just there's
- 46:55Speaker 6: so much to love about it, and the score it
- 46:58Speaker 6: just takes us to another level in this.
- 47:00Speaker 2: The score is incredible, and I do think that the
- 47:04Speaker 2: practical effects in this movie are fantastic. I mean, there's
- 47:07Speaker 2: not a lot of them. This movie is not as
- 47:11Speaker 2: violence heavy as the rest of the franchise, but it's
- 47:13Speaker 2: violence that really fucking hits. Like when the homeless guy
- 47:17Speaker 2: gets or unhoused guy gets his head ripped off in
- 47:22Speaker 2: the junk yard. I know it's far the actual ripping
- 47:26Speaker 2: of the head off is far, but on the four
- 47:27Speaker 2: K you can see the crazy splatter of blood in
- 47:31Speaker 2: its crazy blood spray, and you can see the effects well.
- 47:35Speaker 7: You know, one of it, and it's not even that
- 47:37Speaker 7: much of a flashy effects scene, but it's when they
- 47:44Speaker 7: break the guy's like nose right up here and between
- 47:48Speaker 7: the yeah, just sees you you see a pop out.
- 47:52Speaker 7: Oh gosh.
- 47:54Speaker 2: And Dean Kundy's photography in this movie is incredible. Man.
- 47:57Speaker 2: There's there are some gorgeous landscape shots and this there's.
- 48:01Speaker 6: The sunset sequences.
- 48:03Speaker 2: Yeah, dude, Like this movie is shot incredibly well, and
- 48:08Speaker 2: everybody talks about how well he You know, how Halloween
- 48:11Speaker 2: two did such a good job at at continuation that
- 48:13Speaker 2: was because of Dean Coundy's photography. But I think Dean Condy,
- 48:17Speaker 2: I think he's my favorite of the three that he shot.
- 48:19Speaker 2: It's Halloween three. I think it looks incredible. I love
- 48:24Speaker 2: the internal set uh, where you know where this main
- 48:26Speaker 2: operation is going. I even love the tour through the
- 48:29Speaker 2: making of the mask where it shows you know, the
- 48:31Speaker 2: plaster and everything being put together for the masks. There's
- 48:36Speaker 2: just so much that I love about this movie. And
- 48:38Speaker 2: the screen Factory four K looks incredible. Obviously the design
- 48:42Speaker 2: of the three masks is iconic mm hm. But yeah,
- 48:46Speaker 2: I definitely think I think you can expect Halloween three
- 48:49Speaker 2: to pop up and Beyond the Blood sometime soon because
- 48:51Speaker 2: there's also a great time Lee Wallace commentary on this disc.
- 48:55Speaker 7: So where where do you stand on the I remember
- 49:01Speaker 7: her name in the movie, the main girl he's with
- 49:03Speaker 7: that he and her partner up to take.
- 49:05Speaker 6: Down Oh Ellie played by Stayson Elkin.
- 49:09Speaker 7: What do you what's your take? Was she always an android?
- 49:17Speaker 1: No?
- 49:17Speaker 2: I don't think so.
- 49:18Speaker 7: You don't think so. I think they took her and
- 49:21Speaker 7: created one.
- 49:23Speaker 2: He does have sex with her multiple times.
- 49:27Speaker 7: Hey man, these things are real realistic. I don't know.
- 49:30Speaker 6: Yeah, I'm wrong anything out?
- 49:32Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I don't, I don't you know. And
- 49:34Speaker 2: what's funny is I didn't even really think about it
- 49:36Speaker 2: that much. Yeah, you know what I mean. When the
- 49:38Speaker 2: car crash happens and it's revealed right that that she
- 49:43Speaker 2: is an android, I thought. I remember thinking like, oh
- 49:46Speaker 2: that sucks, Like I really kind of would have liked
- 49:48Speaker 2: to have seen this play out, But it makes sense
- 49:51Speaker 2: that nobody around him would be.
- 49:54Speaker 6: It just keeps getting worse.
- 49:56Speaker 2: It does. Yeah, the last act of this movie is
- 49:58Speaker 2: just like bad, bad, bad, and I love I do
- 50:02Speaker 2: love that Halloween that is playing before the commercial comes on,
- 50:09Speaker 2: you know what I mean. It's like and then he's
- 50:10Speaker 2: locked in a room. He's just watching Halloween. Really yeah,
- 50:15Speaker 2: it's it's a really cool, like just little you know,
- 50:18Speaker 2: uh kind of like meta thing going on there. It's
- 50:21Speaker 2: a little ahead of its time.
- 50:23Speaker 6: So I have to say the the theatrical poster by
- 50:28Speaker 6: ed Riveria, Oh my gosh, it's it. It's just such
- 50:34Speaker 6: a iconic shot.
- 50:37Speaker 2: The why right, it's like the with them on the.
- 50:40Speaker 7: Yeah, it's a montage in that movie, that scene.
- 50:45Speaker 2: Mm hmm. Yeah. Yeah, it's a good one. Man. Very
- 50:49Speaker 2: ballsy to kill off the kid in the scene with
- 50:52Speaker 2: the parents in the mocker room. Very ballsy to do,
- 50:56Speaker 2: but tons of fun. I love this movie. I think
- 50:59Speaker 2: it's probably, like I said, probably become my favorite Halloween
- 51:04Speaker 2: movie to watch. So and Jordan, I know that you
- 51:07Speaker 2: take that, uh you know, I know you take the
- 51:10Speaker 2: Halloween franchise very seriously. Halloween is your verite movie of
- 51:13Speaker 2: all time. So No.
- 51:15Speaker 7: Three is definitely it's It's an incredible movie.
- 51:18Speaker 2: Definitely better than two by a long shot.
- 51:21Speaker 7: I really like too though. That's the thing. Those first
- 51:24Speaker 7: three or the first three are.
- 51:26Speaker 6: Like pretty good.
- 51:27Speaker 2: Where's a love for Halloween?
- 51:28Speaker 6: Four?
- 51:28Speaker 7: Not as good as.
- 51:32Speaker 2: You shut your dirt? You know what?
- 51:35Speaker 6: Man?
- 51:35Speaker 2: Why don't you shut up and go over your next pick?
- 51:37Speaker 7: All right, right, Well, we had a good time with
- 51:40Speaker 7: Halloween three and stuff, but I want to bring it
- 51:42Speaker 7: back and you know, set the mood a little bit,
- 51:45Speaker 7: and I want to talk about uh this film right here.
- 51:48Speaker 7: Uh his name uh Uli. I never say his name,
- 51:53Speaker 7: right uh Uli? Whatever? Anyways, body of evidence. I can't
- 52:01Speaker 7: remember how to say his last name. But this movie
- 52:06Speaker 7: I thoroughly, thoroughly enjoyed. This is a lot of people
- 52:13Speaker 7: see this as a basic instinct kind of rip off movie,
- 52:16Speaker 7: which I could I could see where they're coming from.
- 52:19Speaker 6: It's similar, It's so much more than that.
- 52:21Speaker 7: But exactly, and the story of this goes is there's
- 52:27Speaker 7: this man gets killed and Madonna is the main suspect
- 52:32Speaker 7: in this murder, and Willem Dafoe represents her in this
- 52:35Speaker 7: murder trial, and during this murder trial that's taken place,
- 52:40Speaker 7: they end up having a very very steamy affair with
- 52:46Speaker 7: each other. And what cracks me up about this movie
- 52:49Speaker 7: is it goes from a very intense court case where
- 52:53Speaker 7: the judge has to call them up to the stand
- 52:56Speaker 7: to rip into them because they're not listening, you know,
- 52:59Speaker 7: constantly fighting, then them going into a into an elevator
- 53:04Speaker 7: with him getting a handy and them going down into
- 53:07Speaker 7: the into a dimly lit garage and they just kind
- 53:12Speaker 7: of go at it.
- 53:12Speaker 2: That's what the nineties were like, man oh Man and this.
- 53:16Speaker 7: But what I do love about this movie is a
- 53:19Speaker 7: cinematographer in this uh, the way this movie is lit,
- 53:24Speaker 7: I think is incredible a shot. There's an interview in
- 53:28Speaker 7: here with him where he talks about how for the
- 53:30Speaker 7: courtroom scenes you could see he put lights in the
- 53:33Speaker 7: windows and what he would do is he would shoot
- 53:37Speaker 7: haze into the courtroom to get the light streaking effect
- 53:42Speaker 7: to show into the room. I didn't notice. I mean,
- 53:44Speaker 7: I not that you could see it when I first
- 53:47Speaker 7: saw But after watching that interview, going back, you can
- 53:50Speaker 7: really start to appreciate all the stuff. He actually was
- 53:55Speaker 7: a camera op. I was telling Chris earlier, he's a
- 53:58Speaker 7: camera op for the Shining. He was camera like a
- 54:03Speaker 7: bunch of Stanley Kubrick films.
- 54:05Speaker 6: And then.
- 54:09Speaker 7: Yep, and then he jumped in. After that he became
- 54:13Speaker 7: the the was it the cinematographer I think for for
- 54:21Speaker 7: Full Metal Jacket. So he did a lot. He kind
- 54:24Speaker 7: of cut his teeth with Stanley Kubrick.
- 54:27Speaker 6: His uh, his biggest feet was taking on rumble Stiltskin.
- 54:34Speaker 7: Hell yeah, uncle Rumble.
- 54:39Speaker 6: An uncle for uncle to all of us.
- 54:41Speaker 2: Rumble Rump.
- 54:43Speaker 7: But Madonna, Man, that's why I bought this.
- 54:48Speaker 2: And I haven't watched it and I haven't seen it
- 54:51Speaker 2: like before. But when I looked up Madonna just in this,
- 54:57Speaker 2: I was like sold, dude, Okay.
- 54:59Speaker 7: Well then you got both cut to the movie in
- 55:00Speaker 7: four K obviously watched the unrated cuts when you're gonna
- 55:04Speaker 7: want to see.
- 55:05Speaker 2: Obviously, but.
- 55:08Speaker 7: Huh, why is that Jordan for It's just everything is there,
- 55:12Speaker 7: like they they take it to the next they push
- 55:15Speaker 7: the envelope with this Will and Dafoe in his own right,
- 55:18Speaker 7: great actor, but in this movie he's at the will
- 55:22Speaker 7: of Madonna's character. She she runs the show, and it's
- 55:29Speaker 7: she's she's crazy. She's she's pretty crazy in this movie,
- 55:33Speaker 7: and she's essentially a dominatrix in this movie. Is really
- 55:36Speaker 7: what she is? Yeah, I thought that was a great
- 55:42Speaker 7: great you have, uh, the the other attorney that's representing
- 55:47Speaker 7: I guess I don't know the other side. That would
- 55:49Speaker 7: be the state or you know whoever. He was the
- 55:52Speaker 7: guy that was in Godfather three. I can't think of
- 55:54Speaker 7: his name right now. Tom there's Tom or Joe Joe
- 55:58Speaker 7: Joe Mantegna.
- 56:00Speaker 2: Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, I mean I know him from
- 56:06Speaker 2: uh I'm blinking right now.
- 56:09Speaker 7: But yeah, this movie, it's got a lot of good
- 56:13Speaker 7: red herrings. You don't you start to question yourself of Okay,
- 56:18Speaker 7: you know, maybe she did do it, maybe she didn't
- 56:20Speaker 7: do it. You're not quite sure.
- 56:22Speaker 2: Criminal Minds is what he's from.
- 56:26Speaker 7: Uh he he, I didn't watch Criminal Minds, but he like,
- 56:29Speaker 7: he would definitely be in that show.
- 56:31Speaker 2: And Baby's Day Out.
- 56:34Speaker 7: He's in that movie.
- 56:36Speaker 2: Yeah, he's the main the main the main guy that
- 56:39Speaker 2: that it's like him, Joe Pontalano and the other guy.
- 56:41Speaker 2: I forget the other.
- 56:42Speaker 7: Guy's name anyways, Body of Evidence, dude. That movie it's
- 56:46Speaker 7: it's a trip for sure. And I was I was
- 56:49Speaker 7: looking at the Rotten Tomatoes score and this thing has
- 56:53Speaker 7: holding a nine percent.
- 56:54Speaker 6: It doesn't do this film just so I'm.
- 56:57Speaker 7: Yeah, it's it's a great movie. There's an also an
- 57:00Speaker 7: interview with the director, brand new interview, and he had
- 57:04Speaker 7: talked about how you know, Madonna was really the one
- 57:09Speaker 7: push that pushed this movie, and he was saying, how
- 57:15Speaker 7: the issue, the reason this movie didn't do so well,
- 57:18Speaker 7: he thinks, is because it was put up against basic instinct,
- 57:25Speaker 7: and people when they saw this movie, they were seeing
- 57:27Speaker 7: it through the lens of basic instinct, and so it
- 57:29Speaker 7: just didn't do good well.
- 57:31Speaker 6: I feel like between that and Fatal Attraction, those two
- 57:34Speaker 6: films kind of set the standard for the subgenre in
- 57:37Speaker 6: a lot of ways.
- 57:37Speaker 7: He had Sharon Stone, I mean incredible, right, so you
- 57:43Speaker 7: put her up against Madonna, I mean that's tough.
- 57:46Speaker 6: Another film that actually came out the same year, and
- 57:50Speaker 6: I actually watched this recently is Abel Frera's Dangerous Game,
- 57:54Speaker 6: So it came out in same year obviously in ninety three,
- 57:58Speaker 6: but Madonna's as well, and Harvey Kaite tells in it
- 58:03Speaker 6: excellent movie, really out there, kind of almost feels like
- 58:08Speaker 6: it has some David Lynch influence to it. But if
- 58:13Speaker 6: you liked a Body of Evidence, that's another another great
- 58:18Speaker 6: movie with Madonna in it.
- 58:20Speaker 2: And Leave Their.
- 58:21Speaker 7: Room, Yes, Tom Hanks movie. I don't know.
- 58:27Speaker 2: I just thought, what is it? In my head? I'm like,
- 58:30Speaker 2: what is a Madonna movie that I know? Leave their Own?
- 58:35Speaker 7: You know what, that's a good movie, though.
- 58:37Speaker 2: Their Own is great. Yeah, is great, Steve, I don't
- 58:42Speaker 2: know Jordan. Jordan brought the hot and heavy there. I'm
- 58:45Speaker 2: curious of what you're gonna bring next.
- 58:48Speaker 6: Oh, I gotta ask you, guys, do you believe in
- 58:50Speaker 6: time travel?
- 58:53Speaker 2: Depends?
- 58:54Speaker 6: Because I got Donnie Darko for you guys the four
- 58:56Speaker 6: K box set from Arrow Video. And this isn't a
- 59:03Speaker 6: recent release, but I had the opportunity to go back
- 59:05Speaker 6: and rewatch it recently, and it just made me appreciate
- 59:09Speaker 6: this movie on a whole new level. When did you
- 59:15Speaker 6: guys find out about this movie or when did you
- 59:17Speaker 6: initially watch it? Was it back when? Initially when it
- 59:20Speaker 6: came out?
- 59:20Speaker 2: Oh dude, I when did it come out? Two thousand
- 59:25Speaker 2: and two thousand and one dozen one? Right? Yeah? I
- 59:28Speaker 2: probably saw it within a year or so after it
- 59:32Speaker 2: came out. Man, my mom really liked this movie, and
- 59:37Speaker 2: I remember her telling me explicitly like it's just really
- 59:39Speaker 2: fucking weird, you know. And then I think a lot
- 59:43Speaker 2: of people were shocked about with the Patrick Swayzee kind
- 59:45Speaker 2: of being a child preditor, you know, aspect of it.
- 59:49Speaker 2: But this movie was like kids older than me, like
- 59:54Speaker 2: Chosen One. Let's say I saw in Chosen two. I was,
- 59:57Speaker 2: you know, twelve kids older than me like made this
- 1:00:01Speaker 2: their personality, this movie, like this is what people loved.
- 1:00:07Speaker 2: It was so weird and out there. And I remember
- 1:00:11Speaker 2: just seeing Frank everywhere. The Frank was so iconic, the
- 1:00:15Speaker 2: bunny costume. It was. Yeah, this was an important one.
- 1:00:20Speaker 6: Jordan, what about you?
- 1:00:21Speaker 7: Yeah, I knew about this movie. Frank was the reason
- 1:00:25Speaker 7: I knew about this movie. It was one of those
- 1:00:26Speaker 7: you saw it everywhere. I mean I saw that Bunny.
- 1:00:29Speaker 7: I didn't know what it was. I actually didn't see
- 1:00:32Speaker 7: it until I got that era release, to be honest,
- 1:00:34Speaker 7: I was I'm ever seeing it? Yeah. Yeah. It was
- 1:00:38Speaker 7: actually one of my first early videos on my YouTube
- 1:00:41Speaker 7: channel that I talked about that movie. It's it's that
- 1:00:46Speaker 7: movie's nuts. It's makes you It's one of those that
- 1:00:49Speaker 7: really makes you think, it makes you question. You know.
- 1:00:54Speaker 6: Now, do you guys like the theatrical or director's cut.
- 1:00:58Speaker 6: I do this.
- 1:00:58Speaker 2: Director's cut, director's cut, yeah, Richard Kelly, Richard like when
- 1:01:03Speaker 2: it comes to Richard Kelly, like when it comes to
- 1:01:06Speaker 2: Donny Darko's the director's cut. When it comes to Southland Tales,
- 1:01:09Speaker 2: I do the can cut.
- 1:01:14Speaker 6: I don't know because I remember the director's cut that
- 1:01:18Speaker 6: was initially how I saw it, went back and watched
- 1:01:20Speaker 6: as a theatrical cut. I just there's something about with
- 1:01:24Speaker 6: the theatrical cut. It leaves things so much more kind
- 1:01:28Speaker 6: of dream like, open ended. Is it really holding your
- 1:01:31Speaker 6: hand through the entire film that I think That's why
- 1:01:35Speaker 6: I appreciate it's kind of open to interpretation, not to
- 1:01:38Speaker 6: mention that there's some significantly changed songs like I know,
- 1:01:44Speaker 6: the Killing Moon by echoing the Bunnyman that's used in
- 1:01:48Speaker 6: the opening scene in the theatrical cut, and the director's
- 1:01:50Speaker 6: cuts never tear us apart by inexcess, which I feel
- 1:01:55Speaker 6: like it just kind of changes the you know, kind
- 1:01:58Speaker 6: of set in what's going to happen after that point.
- 1:02:01Speaker 6: But yeah, I mean this movie, I don't know, I
- 1:02:07Speaker 6: just have I have nothing but great things to say
- 1:02:09Speaker 6: about it. I mean, it refalls around Donny Darko, who's
- 1:02:11Speaker 6: a troubled high school student. He's in therapy, he's prone
- 1:02:15Speaker 6: to sleepwalking and basically in possession of an imaginary friend
- 1:02:20Speaker 6: who happens to be basically a six foot tall rabbit
- 1:02:24Speaker 6: named Frank Yep and Frank tells him that the world's
- 1:02:28Speaker 6: going to end, and I believe it's twenty eight days,
- 1:02:32Speaker 6: six hours, forty two minutes and twelve seconds. So during
- 1:02:35Speaker 6: this time, he's basically trying to navigate through being a teenager.
- 1:02:40Speaker 6: He nearly avoids death, and he's following Frank's instructions and
- 1:02:46Speaker 6: tries to kind of maintain like the space time continuum
- 1:02:52Speaker 6: with everything. It sounds really weird, it definitely is, but
- 1:02:57Speaker 6: it's definitely a cult classic for a reason. And this
- 1:03:01Speaker 6: is this four K Releases is top tier, so obviously
- 1:03:07Speaker 6: it comes with the four K transfer. Let's see what
- 1:03:11Speaker 6: else it's got on it. So it's got one hundred
- 1:03:13Speaker 6: page hardcover book, included the writings of Nathan Raven, Anton Biddle,
- 1:03:21Speaker 6: and Jamie Graham on it got a number of different interviews,
- 1:03:26Speaker 6: let's see. And it's got both cuts of the film,
- 1:03:30Speaker 6: which is pretty cool. But overall, I mean, I just
- 1:03:33Speaker 6: I love this movie and just seeing it get the
- 1:03:38Speaker 6: love that it truly deserves. I just I'm happy to
- 1:03:41Speaker 6: have this in my collection.
- 1:03:43Speaker 2: Yeah, do you remember have you had this since it
- 1:03:45Speaker 2: came out? Or is this something that you acquired later
- 1:03:47Speaker 2: on a.
- 1:03:49Speaker 6: Little bit later on? It wasn't when initially was released,
- 1:03:52Speaker 6: but I know that there weren't there issues with one
- 1:03:54Speaker 6: of the discs.
- 1:03:55Speaker 2: Yeah, I remember. I remember this kind of being like
- 1:03:56Speaker 2: one of the first big like disc recall issues like
- 1:04:03Speaker 2: before this, I'd heard of it before, but this was
- 1:04:05Speaker 2: like a big deal at the disc and this was
- 1:04:07Speaker 2: messed up like for some reason, and it wasn't even
- 1:04:10Speaker 2: I think it was one of the Imber Correctly, it
- 1:04:13Speaker 2: wasn't even one of the I think it was just
- 1:04:14Speaker 2: a theatric cut disc that had of error. But I
- 1:04:18Speaker 2: remember it being big like now, when it happens, it
- 1:04:22Speaker 2: kind of gets spread around everywhere. This was kind of
- 1:04:24Speaker 2: like whoa hold on Arrow? Made him as big? No,
- 1:04:28Speaker 2: but it's a beautiful set for sure.
- 1:04:31Speaker 6: And the good thing is, I think from when this
- 1:04:34Speaker 6: initially was released all the way up until now, most
- 1:04:36Speaker 6: of the boutique labels are pretty quick to you know,
- 1:04:39Speaker 6: correct things that there's a mistake on them, or send
- 1:04:41Speaker 6: you a replacement disc or I know we recently had
- 1:04:44Speaker 6: that with a Bay of Blood and Leprechaun. They're working
- 1:04:48Speaker 6: on the replacement disc for that.
- 1:04:50Speaker 2: So I was a watch to g a video earlier
- 1:04:52Speaker 2: and somebody was like, man, it's a leprechaon on four
- 1:04:55Speaker 2: looks terrible there's no color, and then it's like they're like,
- 1:04:59Speaker 2: oh wait about to add color timing to the Wow.
- 1:05:03Speaker 6: Thankfull I didn't pick it up yet.
- 1:05:05Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, so yeah. I love Donnie Darko man and
- 1:05:09Speaker 2: Drew great early, Drew Barrymore performance, jenam alone. My favorite
- 1:05:18Speaker 2: line of the whole movie is tell me how does
- 1:05:19Speaker 2: one suck a fuck? That's my favorite. My favorite line
- 1:05:23Speaker 2: of the movie. I love that and getting crushed in
- 1:05:27Speaker 2: your sleep by an airplane motor pretty good way to.
- 1:05:30Speaker 6: Go nightmare fuel that your sister and mother were on right, Yeah,
- 1:05:37Speaker 6: well they pray that never happens to me.
- 1:05:39Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, great pick man. I love Donnie Darko. I
- 1:05:43Speaker 2: was actually just talking about this with with somebody at
- 1:05:45Speaker 2: work the other day. Man, so I'm happy to talk
- 1:05:47Speaker 2: about it twice.
- 1:05:48Speaker 6: That soundtrack Man Tears for Fears.
- 1:05:51Speaker 2: What do you guys think about the Patrick Swayze subplot.
- 1:05:56Speaker 6: I like that it kind of goes against if I
- 1:06:00Speaker 6: had not been familiar with what happens in this movie.
- 1:06:04Speaker 6: I feel like seeing it for the first time definitely
- 1:06:07Speaker 6: goes against the green I feel like for most of
- 1:06:09Speaker 6: the other roles that he's done previously, so it's I
- 1:06:12Speaker 6: think of this as a standout for him.
- 1:06:16Speaker 2: Yeah, I agree, I agree. Yeah, awesome, man, thank you
- 1:06:21Speaker 2: for the great pick that Still, I was just checking
- 1:06:23Speaker 2: eBay prices. I didn't know if this thing was like
- 1:06:25Speaker 2: crazy out of print. It looks like it's like hovering
- 1:06:27Speaker 2: around like the sixty to seventy dollars range. It's a
- 1:06:29Speaker 2: thick box, it's a thick release, and I haven't dove
- 1:06:33Speaker 2: into at booklet yet because it's pretty daunting. But yeah,
- 1:06:38Speaker 2: I love those colors too, man. I think that artwork
- 1:06:40Speaker 2: they chose for this one was phenomenal, especially over the
- 1:06:43Speaker 2: Blu ray that they had already done.
- 1:06:46Speaker 6: This was I think one of the earlier four K
- 1:06:51Speaker 6: box sets I got from from Errol because I remember
- 1:06:55Speaker 6: getting deep Red tenebray Bird with crystal plumage, and then
- 1:07:02Speaker 6: Dinny dark O roughly all around the same time. He'lls
- 1:07:04Speaker 6: Have Eyes was another one.
- 1:07:05Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah too.
- 1:07:10Speaker 6: I didn't. I didn't grab that.
- 1:07:12Speaker 7: I have that.
- 1:07:13Speaker 6: I can confirm I have that.
- 1:07:15Speaker 2: So for my last pick, I'm gonna go over something
- 1:07:18Speaker 2: a little bit less talked about than most things. But Steve,
- 1:07:22Speaker 2: I know this is right up your alley. Jordan. You
- 1:07:24Speaker 2: have become a fan of this director, we're so I'm
- 1:07:27Speaker 2: very very proud of you. And this is from nineteen
- 1:07:30Speaker 2: eighty one. This is Lucio Fulci's The Black Cat. And
- 1:07:34Speaker 2: this kind of came between, if I remember correctly, this
- 1:07:40Speaker 2: movie kind of came out in between The Beyond and
- 1:07:44Speaker 2: like around like the Contraband time, so it kind of
- 1:07:46Speaker 2: fell into this weird midway for his career, and this
- 1:07:50Speaker 2: movie kind of went under the radar, mostly because I
- 1:07:53Speaker 2: don't feel like it's as gory as the other films
- 1:07:57Speaker 2: kind of around it. But The Black Cat is a very,
- 1:08:02Speaker 2: like I'm talking about, very loose adaptation of the Edgar
- 1:08:05Speaker 2: Allan Poe story, and it tells the story of an
- 1:08:09Speaker 2: investigator into a small town who goes on a hunt
- 1:08:13Speaker 2: looking for two missing teenagers. And while on the hunt
- 1:08:17Speaker 2: for these two missing teenagers kind of begins to unravel
- 1:08:20Speaker 2: a series of murders that have been happening, and all
- 1:08:24Speaker 2: of these murders are kind of being circled around this
- 1:08:27Speaker 2: black cat who somehow keeps appearing. Which, by the way,
- 1:08:29Speaker 2: as I said that, my cat is yelling at me
- 1:08:31Speaker 2: through the door which I'm going to open for him
- 1:08:35Speaker 2: right now.
- 1:08:40Speaker 6: It's an omen he knew he knew.
- 1:08:44Speaker 2: And yeah, I mean I love this movie, like I
- 1:08:49Speaker 2: this is the first time I watched it on the
- 1:08:50Speaker 2: Errow video set, which is and then he walked away.
- 1:08:53Speaker 2: All he wanted me to do was open the door
- 1:08:55Speaker 2: by way. This came out of the Black Cats set,
- 1:08:59Speaker 2: which also include dudes Sergio Martinez. Your advice is a
- 1:09:03Speaker 2: locked room and only I have the Cake, which is
- 1:09:06Speaker 2: another Eggar Allan Poe adaptation of that story.
- 1:09:09Speaker 6: Another great movie.
- 1:09:11Speaker 2: Yeah, yes, yes, another great movie. But yeah, I really
- 1:09:14Speaker 2: just kind of fell in love with this movie. I
- 1:09:16Speaker 2: think that it it still packs that full gie punch.
- 1:09:20Speaker 2: There's some really nasty stuff in this movie. There's a
- 1:09:23Speaker 2: great fire stunt the beginning of the movie. There's this
- 1:09:26Speaker 2: wicked car crash sequence where somebody goes through a windshield.
- 1:09:31Speaker 2: There's some pretty pretty rough stuff in this movie. And
- 1:09:34Speaker 2: I do feel like as a whole, it doesn't it
- 1:09:37Speaker 2: doesn't reach the heights of some of Fulgi's other highest points.
- 1:09:42Speaker 6: Where would you rank this in those films? I mean
- 1:09:45Speaker 6: I think you could probably or we could probably all agree.
- 1:09:49Speaker 6: It doesn't go up there with like the Gates of
- 1:09:51Speaker 6: Hell or Zombie.
- 1:09:52Speaker 2: But no, no, I would put it like it's better
- 1:09:55Speaker 2: than Pneumonia, It's better than Manhattan Baby kind of falls
- 1:09:59Speaker 2: on like that middle area where kind of like I
- 1:10:02Speaker 2: feel like bad Lucille Folchi is still.
- 1:10:06Speaker 6: Good Lucille Folger, you know, compared to some directors.
- 1:10:09Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, it still has you know, exactly what you're
- 1:10:13Speaker 2: looking to get out of full g film, Maybe just
- 1:10:15Speaker 2: not to the extremity, but I thought Jordan would be
- 1:10:19Speaker 2: really happy to hear. This has a score by Pino
- 1:10:20Speaker 2: di Nagio oh Man, Yeah, which dude, very very good,
- 1:10:26Speaker 2: very funky, very beautiful. It's one of the highlights of
- 1:10:32Speaker 2: the film for me, that score. But I also want
- 1:10:35Speaker 2: to shout out one of the bonus features on here,
- 1:10:38Speaker 2: which is like a twenty five minute conversation with Stephen Thrower.
- 1:10:42Speaker 2: Stephen Thrower is mostly known for I just want to
- 1:10:46Speaker 2: make sure I have the name right. Yeah, Steven Thrower,
- 1:10:50Speaker 2: he wrote pretty much literally the book on Lucille Fulcie,
- 1:10:54Speaker 2: and he also wrote a great book that called Nightmare USA,
- 1:10:58Speaker 2: which is kind of the rise of the American exploitation film.
- 1:11:02Speaker 2: And he gives incredible insight for about twenty three minutes
- 1:11:05Speaker 2: about this movie and kind of talks about how the
- 1:11:08Speaker 2: movie was never released theatrically, so they had to watch
- 1:11:12Speaker 2: it on this really terrible panin scan VHS that came
- 1:11:15Speaker 2: out in the UK, and there are as typical full
- 1:11:19Speaker 2: Chiat films do. There are these stunning shots of eyes,
- 1:11:24Speaker 2: and during those scenes on the VHS they were just
- 1:11:28Speaker 2: looking at bridges of noses because the pantin scan wasn't,
- 1:11:34Speaker 2: you know, lining up, It was just doing the center
- 1:11:36Speaker 2: of the frame, and most of these shots are kind
- 1:11:39Speaker 2: of like off center that I might be on the
- 1:11:40Speaker 2: left or the right. So he talks about how much
- 1:11:44Speaker 2: how wonderful the work on this arrow restoration was to
- 1:11:47Speaker 2: finally get this movie looking the way it needed. But
- 1:11:50Speaker 2: had a ton of fun with this one, so I
- 1:11:52Speaker 2: hope more people will get a chance to check it out.
- 1:11:54Speaker 2: I wish we would get another release that wasn't tied
- 1:11:57Speaker 2: to this double box set. That way people didn't have
- 1:12:00Speaker 2: to buy the Sergio Martino film teams with this or
- 1:12:02Speaker 2: have to put out the money for this box set.
- 1:12:04Speaker 6: I feel like it's just a matter of time because
- 1:12:06Speaker 6: I feel like a lot of well, his bigger works
- 1:12:10Speaker 6: have already gotten boutique, you know, releases. I feel like,
- 1:12:14Speaker 6: you know that Manhattan Baby could be one set. Maybe
- 1:12:19Speaker 6: the foreseeable future could could end up getting you.
- 1:12:22Speaker 7: Know about a four K. Yeah, see cat in the Brain? Yeah,
- 1:12:27Speaker 7: where's that four K?
- 1:12:29Speaker 2: Yeah? I mean I hope. So there's a brand new
- 1:12:31Speaker 2: commentary on this disc by Chris Alexander. At the time,
- 1:12:34Speaker 2: he was editor in chief for Fangoria. Now he's owner
- 1:12:38Speaker 2: of Delirium Magazine, which is a full moon magazine. There's
- 1:12:44Speaker 2: a location look at. There's a career interview with Aghmar
- 1:12:47Speaker 2: or with actress Dagmar Lazander. There's an archive interview with
- 1:12:50Speaker 2: one of the Black Hat stars. You know, there was
- 1:12:53Speaker 2: a lot of work put in to this movie coming out,
- 1:12:57Speaker 2: and yeah, I think it does. I think it does
- 1:13:00Speaker 2: deserve a little bit of a of a better kind
- 1:13:03Speaker 2: of standalone edition. I just hope more people will give
- 1:13:05Speaker 2: this one a chance somehow if they can find it.
- 1:13:09Speaker 6: It's a great pick.
- 1:13:10Speaker 2: Thank you, sir, thank you. That's my last pick.
- 1:13:14Speaker 6: Joan, what you got for us?
- 1:13:15Speaker 7: Yeah? I have this one right here, This one I
- 1:13:19Speaker 7: simply actually got because of Steve.
- 1:13:25Speaker 6: One. He got.
- 1:13:30Speaker 7: This movie. So I watched this in two two nights.
- 1:13:34Speaker 7: I started it late one night, fish the next day,
- 1:13:38Speaker 7: an amazing, amazing movie. I was completely blown away by
- 1:13:43Speaker 7: this movie. And that's going to be at close range.
- 1:13:47Speaker 6: This was it.
- 1:13:48Speaker 7: Let's go, I've never seen this movie. What a stacked cast.
- 1:13:52Speaker 7: First off, I just want to say Christopher Walk and
- 1:13:54Speaker 7: Sean Pinn, Michael Penn, Key for Subtle and uh uh
- 1:14:00Speaker 7: what's his name? Crispin Glover's in this. I mean I
- 1:14:04Speaker 7: was shocked when I I mean they just kept coming,
- 1:14:07Speaker 7: you know of that of this era when this movie
- 1:14:10Speaker 7: came out, all the you know, kind of teenage heart
- 1:14:13Speaker 7: throb actors were in this.
- 1:14:17Speaker 5: Now.
- 1:14:19Speaker 7: I love Chris Walking in this movie. He is just
- 1:14:21Speaker 7: this crazy. So he is Sean Penn's father kind of
- 1:14:27Speaker 7: a uh was never really there for him.
- 1:14:30Speaker 2: Was off.
- 1:14:31Speaker 7: He he was a thief, he went off and did
- 1:14:33Speaker 7: his own stuff.
- 1:14:34Speaker 6: He's kind of like a dead beat pretty much.
- 1:14:36Speaker 7: Yeah, Sean Payn gets kicked out of his house and
- 1:14:39Speaker 7: so he goes to his dad, and his dad is
- 1:14:42Speaker 7: basically takes him under his wing to show him the
- 1:14:45Speaker 7: ropes and gets to the point where it's a little
- 1:14:48Speaker 7: too much for Sean Penn's character. There's a very this scene.
- 1:14:56Speaker 7: Just talking about it gives me chills. When they're taking
- 1:14:59Speaker 7: this guy into this into water, this water to kill him.
- 1:15:02Speaker 7: And Sean Penn is kind of behind some trees watching
- 1:15:07Speaker 7: and you see Christopher Walker just look over him and
- 1:15:09Speaker 7: just kind of whisper it, put his finger over his
- 1:15:12Speaker 7: mouth says, you know, don't say anything. Anyways, one thing
- 1:15:17Speaker 7: leads to another, and Sean Penn and his buddies they
- 1:15:22Speaker 7: get arrested and people they get out, and now Christopher
- 1:15:29Speaker 7: Walkin's character and his group of friends, his buddies are
- 1:15:34Speaker 7: scared that they're going to talk. So I guess I'm
- 1:15:38Speaker 7: giving away the movie. They're just they're they're pretty much
- 1:15:42Speaker 7: gonna take him out one by one, and it you
- 1:15:47Speaker 7: want to talk about anxiety and just on the suspense.
- 1:15:51Speaker 7: And there's a Latin near the the shot of the
- 1:15:54Speaker 7: movie when Christopher Walking and Sean Pin are in the
- 1:15:58Speaker 7: kitchen of his dad's house. There's a conversation they have
- 1:16:01Speaker 7: with each other and it is some of the greatest
- 1:16:04Speaker 7: things on film I have seen. And I'm not kidding.
- 1:16:08Speaker 7: It was incredible. I was so blown away by it.
- 1:16:12Speaker 6: It's a movie that I think doesn't get talked about
- 1:16:14Speaker 6: nearly enough. And Let's Not Forget also features Madonna's Love
- 1:16:23Speaker 6: to Tell Oh Yes, a pretty crucial song that's used
- 1:16:27Speaker 6: in the movie.
- 1:16:28Speaker 7: That's that's in the movie.
- 1:16:31Speaker 6: Did this slip up to your did this live up
- 1:16:33Speaker 6: to your expectations?
- 1:16:34Speaker 5: Oh?
- 1:16:34Speaker 7: Dude, it blew it out of the water. I was look.
- 1:16:38Speaker 7: I knew Seampa was a phenomenal actor. I knew that,
- 1:16:42Speaker 7: but I'm telling you, man, he just he just impressed
- 1:16:48Speaker 7: me even more than he already has. I think it's
- 1:16:56Speaker 7: just crazy to see. What shocks me is how far
- 1:17:01Speaker 7: Christopher Watkins's character goes in this movie. Oh yeah, he
- 1:17:04Speaker 7: doesn't care. He is about himself by no means necessary.
- 1:17:10Speaker 7: When you know, when they're taking them out to the
- 1:17:12Speaker 7: field and his brother is saying, you know, if you
- 1:17:16Speaker 7: ever got if you ever had to take the stand, basically,
- 1:17:20Speaker 7: would you speak against.
- 1:17:21Speaker 2: Me or raight?
- 1:17:22Speaker 7: Mangoes no, and he goes you liar. You know just
- 1:17:25Speaker 7: that scene, man, it gets to you.
- 1:17:29Speaker 6: It's a Uh, it's a movie that I definitely don't
- 1:17:31Speaker 6: think it's talked about nearly enough. Yeah, and I have
- 1:17:36Speaker 6: to say, just to point out vinegar syndrome sub label,
- 1:17:41Speaker 6: I believe it's cinematograph. Yeah, that's what I Oh God,
- 1:17:44Speaker 6: some of their releases are just I've been so impressed.
- 1:17:48Speaker 6: The ones I have so far are obviously at close Range,
- 1:17:52Speaker 6: married to the mob, Dangerous Game, the Gambler, drop Zone.
- 1:17:58Speaker 6: They're I don't know, I've been thoroughly impressed with with
- 1:18:04Speaker 6: just They're giving us something different. And you know these
- 1:18:08Speaker 6: movies that they've they've been highlighting and giving the boutique treatment.
- 1:18:14Speaker 6: It's definitely allowing these films to get the audience of
- 1:18:17Speaker 6: the love.
- 1:18:18Speaker 2: While I don't own any I remember I remember Justin's
- 1:18:26Speaker 2: like when when Cinematograph was announced and him talking about
- 1:18:30Speaker 2: what the label is meant to be, like what he's
- 1:18:33Speaker 2: trying to focus on. And I remember at first, like
- 1:18:38Speaker 2: the first couple of releases, I was like, I don't know,
- 1:18:39Speaker 2: this doesn't feel like what he said it was going
- 1:18:41Speaker 2: to be. And now I feel like it has become
- 1:18:44Speaker 2: what Justin said it was going to be. So I'm
- 1:18:47Speaker 2: very happy it's found. It's it's found, it's putting because
- 1:18:50Speaker 2: the last five or six seven have really felt like
- 1:18:55Speaker 2: these essential like gaps in you know, seventies to nineties
- 1:19:03Speaker 2: history that aren't stuck to a particular genre.
- 1:19:06Speaker 7: Yeah, there's their newest one with Robert Davall. No. I
- 1:19:10Speaker 7: saw that I can't remember what it's called, but I
- 1:19:12Speaker 7: want to see that. I want to get that so bad.
- 1:19:13Speaker 7: But I want to talk about the special features on
- 1:19:15Speaker 7: this release because I think that's one that blew me away.
- 1:19:20Speaker 7: So you're getting a new audio commentary with Bill Ackerman
- 1:19:22Speaker 7: and Jim Lekowski. There's an archival audio commentary, but so
- 1:19:27Speaker 7: these two are one I want to highlight. It's called
- 1:19:29Speaker 7: Hillbilly Lucifer, which is a new video interview with Christopher
- 1:19:33Speaker 7: Walking and Controlling Your Desky, a new video interview with
- 1:19:36Speaker 7: Sean Penn. So that that's still wild to me that
- 1:19:42Speaker 7: now these labels are starting to get the actors, someone
- 1:19:46Speaker 7: like Christopher Walk and someone like Sean Penn to come
- 1:19:49Speaker 7: back and talk about these movies.
- 1:19:52Speaker 6: That's surprising, right. Sometimes I don't know about you guys,
- 1:19:56Speaker 6: but I feel like with some of these movies, the
- 1:19:58Speaker 6: actors or actresses, maybe even the director is so far
- 1:20:01Speaker 6: removed from that movie at that point their career that
- 1:20:04Speaker 6: they I feel like it's sometimes kind of hard for
- 1:20:07Speaker 6: them to try to get them to revisit it.
- 1:20:10Speaker 7: Yeah, what else are you getting in this? You're getting
- 1:20:14Speaker 7: a new interview with the casting director, some archival stuff
- 1:20:19Speaker 7: in here, a bunch of archival interviews. There's a short
- 1:20:24Speaker 7: locations video. Yeah, great stuff in this release, So I
- 1:20:31Speaker 7: not recommend this movie enough. Now Ero Video did a
- 1:20:36Speaker 7: blu ray like pretty recently. You know, if you have that,
- 1:20:41Speaker 7: that's awesome, But if you don't have it, this is
- 1:20:44Speaker 7: the vendor Syndromes.
- 1:20:46Speaker 6: Is the way to go. Those releases out of that
- 1:20:49Speaker 6: line feel like you're getting something special. I think that's
- 1:20:51Speaker 6: what I love about them so much. They have like
- 1:20:55Speaker 6: a very unique style box set that makes it feel
- 1:20:57Speaker 6: more premium. I look forward to each one that I
- 1:21:01Speaker 6: was picking up, but I think that that is probably
- 1:21:04Speaker 6: the high point out of them. I also strongly recommend
- 1:21:07Speaker 6: The Gambler definitely carries that uncut gems energy to it.
- 1:21:18Speaker 7: Yeah, I have the Gambler, so I got that's the
- 1:21:20Speaker 7: next one I had to watch. Pick that one up.
- 1:21:23Speaker 6: You won't regret it. Well, I've got a movie that
- 1:21:27Speaker 6: I feel like is probably the perfect segue, and I've
- 1:21:31Speaker 6: got none other than Abel Ferira's Bad Lieutenant from One
- 1:21:37Speaker 6: to One Films. I'm a big fan of this movie.
- 1:21:40Speaker 6: I absolutely love this movie. Huge fan of Harvey Kaitel.
- 1:21:45Speaker 6: And where does this rank for you? Guys like as
- 1:21:52Speaker 6: far as like maybe out of maybe Abel for A's
- 1:21:56Speaker 6: films or movies that were coming out around this time.
- 1:22:02Speaker 2: You know, I've only seen Bad Lieutenant once. I have
- 1:22:04Speaker 2: the Keno.
- 1:22:06Speaker 7: Four K.
- 1:22:07Speaker 2: I think I have the Kino four K. I remember
- 1:22:12Speaker 2: being shocked that this movie was rated a NC seventeen.
- 1:22:19Speaker 2: Like I for some reason didn't remember how brutal this
- 1:22:23Speaker 2: movie was until I revisited it on that Keno release.
- 1:22:28Speaker 2: I still think, I mean, I still have some gaps
- 1:22:31Speaker 2: in my Abel fer Era knowledge. I still put I think,
- 1:22:37Speaker 2: probably like Miss forty five over it and stuff, but
- 1:22:42Speaker 2: I need to give it another go.
- 1:22:45Speaker 6: Miss forty five. I'd probably put this Miss forty five
- 1:22:53Speaker 6: in King of New York. I think all up there.
- 1:22:56Speaker 7: For me, where would you put like the addiction.
- 1:23:02Speaker 6: I would probably like in the next tier down. I
- 1:23:06Speaker 6: don't think it's a bad movie by any means, but
- 1:23:11Speaker 6: as far as rewatchability for me, I'd probably put those
- 1:23:15Speaker 6: three smidge ahead, like maybe it's tough a driller killer
- 1:23:20Speaker 6: and the addiction kind of in the same tier.
- 1:23:24Speaker 2: Really do drill like that?
- 1:23:25Speaker 5: Low?
- 1:23:27Speaker 6: Not low? But I think that, uh, I don't know,
- 1:23:31Speaker 6: It's not a movie that I could come back to
- 1:23:32Speaker 6: a lot to watch it. You have to be like
- 1:23:34Speaker 6: in the specific mood to watch that type of movie.
- 1:23:36Speaker 2: I feel like that's all able for era films that
- 1:23:38Speaker 2: I've seen, though, I feel like they're all so specific
- 1:23:42Speaker 2: to how you feel when you watch them. Yeah, you know,
- 1:23:46Speaker 2: it's like there's no right time to just I was
- 1:23:49Speaker 2: just funny. I was just thinking about Bad Lieutenant today
- 1:23:52Speaker 2: and I was like, I don't know when I'm in
- 1:23:53Speaker 2: the mood to watch this again. But you have the
- 1:23:57Speaker 2: one on one films really there, right.
- 1:24:00Speaker 6: Yep yep. So this has some new extras in it,
- 1:24:05Speaker 6: So just so you guys, for those of you listening
- 1:24:08Speaker 6: who aren't familiar with this, movie stars Harvey Kaitel basically
- 1:24:12Speaker 6: as the Lieutenant, and he is basically a corrupt police
- 1:24:20Speaker 6: officer who has been rolling the streets through gambling, stealing,
- 1:24:24Speaker 6: using killing. He's addicted to drugs. He falls deeper into
- 1:24:29Speaker 6: his vices will investigating the brutal assault of a young
- 1:24:33Speaker 6: nun and so he's basically forced to confront his own
- 1:24:37Speaker 6: sins and walks the line of self destruction. And I
- 1:24:43Speaker 6: would say probably the elusive promise of redemption it. I
- 1:24:47Speaker 6: don't know about you, guys, I feel like for Abel Ferira,
- 1:24:50Speaker 6: he mirrors a lot of the themes I feel like
- 1:24:54Speaker 6: Martin Scorsese touches on in his movies. Yeah. So, but
- 1:25:00Speaker 6: real quickly, we've got a number of new extras. So
- 1:25:03Speaker 6: there's an interview with the Abel Ferira as well as
- 1:25:06Speaker 6: with the cinematographer. There's a limited edition booklet, and I'm
- 1:25:14Speaker 6: making of an audio commentary with Abel Ferira and cinematographer
- 1:25:18Speaker 6: Ken kelsh So overall, I highly recommend this, whether it's Keno.
- 1:25:24Speaker 2: Larber or this one.
- 1:25:26Speaker 6: I just really really love this film.
- 1:25:28Speaker 2: So what do you think of Are you a fan
- 1:25:31Speaker 2: of the one on one films style of their releases.
- 1:25:35Speaker 6: Of like the yeah, slim there's slimmer box sets. I
- 1:25:40Speaker 6: would consider them. Yeah, I like them. Trying to think what.
- 1:25:43Speaker 7: Other Well, they're kind of like that Bay of Blood.
- 1:25:48Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, they're nice.
- 1:25:51Speaker 2: They remind me of like the Indicator or like the
- 1:25:53Speaker 2: not Indicator, I'm sorry, like the powerhouse films, like the
- 1:25:56Speaker 2: Genrellin releases and stuff like that. Jordan, I know you
- 1:26:00Speaker 2: have a few of them.
- 1:26:01Speaker 7: Well that well, well, the genre on ones those are
- 1:26:04Speaker 7: like a little more rigid. These are like Cannibal Holocaust
- 1:26:09Speaker 7: from Grindhouse. It's that kind of outer, outer thinner paper
- 1:26:16Speaker 7: like cardboard, but I don't know I explain it.
- 1:26:19Speaker 6: It's like the kind of the glossy material for the
- 1:26:22Speaker 6: box set. I have Castle Freak, Tourist Trap, and Trancers.
- 1:26:31Speaker 7: The Tourist Trap one's really good. I have that one.
- 1:26:34Speaker 6: Yeah, Yeah, I have like I have.
- 1:26:36Speaker 2: I have some of the I've been collecting them because
- 1:26:37Speaker 2: they're numbered, so I have like Existens, roller Coaster, the
- 1:26:42Speaker 2: New Kids, like a bunch of the earlier ones that
- 1:26:45Speaker 2: are they're super nice Manze, but like their first one
- 1:26:47Speaker 2: was what's that film called the Grifters?
- 1:26:53Speaker 6: Did they do? Spookies?
- 1:26:55Speaker 2: Was that they did?
- 1:26:56Speaker 6: Okay?
- 1:26:57Speaker 2: Yeah they did?
- 1:26:57Speaker 6: Ye?
- 1:27:00Speaker 2: Great pick Man, great pick real Quick? Anything before you
- 1:27:04Speaker 2: got before we head off, Anything that you guys want
- 1:27:06Speaker 2: to touch on Jordan, Any final titles you want to chang? Yeah.
- 1:27:10Speaker 7: The last one I wanted to talk about, real Quick
- 1:27:12Speaker 7: is it's a New Era release. It's kind of the
- 1:27:14Speaker 7: one everyone's talking about right now. I didn't get a
- 1:27:17Speaker 7: chance to watch all the special features yet, but their
- 1:27:20Speaker 7: release four K release of Salem's Lot one of my
- 1:27:23Speaker 7: most anticipated releases. What is so incredible one? It looks
- 1:27:30Speaker 7: so good. This is a thick fix set. You're getting,
- 1:27:34Speaker 7: of course both the TV mini series as a mini series,
- 1:27:37Speaker 7: so part one and Part two also as a continuous movie,
- 1:27:41Speaker 7: but you're also getting the really shortened theatrical version on
- 1:27:47Speaker 7: this and then some really good special features and here
- 1:27:50Speaker 7: as well, Chris Alexander has an audio commentary. Brand new
- 1:27:53Speaker 7: audio commentary by Chris Alexander.
- 1:27:55Speaker 2: Please tell me it's a mini series cut right, not
- 1:27:59Speaker 2: the theatric.
- 1:28:00Speaker 7: It doesn't say it does It is on disc two,
- 1:28:05Speaker 7: which is the theatrical version and extras. Because it's it's
- 1:28:09Speaker 7: interesting because they list it on here as the disc
- 1:28:12Speaker 7: one original TV Mini series version. That's all. It says,
- 1:28:16Speaker 7: Disc two theatrical version and extra So I don't know, Okay,
- 1:28:20Speaker 7: it's version, then I would assume. I mean, you know,
- 1:28:24Speaker 7: four hours of talking, you know, that's that's a lot.
- 1:28:26Speaker 2: We'll do it. Yeah, there you go, We'll take it
- 1:28:29Speaker 2: on ourselves.
- 1:28:30Speaker 7: Let's see a new interview with Stephen Kane biographer Douglas Winter.
- 1:28:35Speaker 5: Uh.
- 1:28:35Speaker 7: You're also getting second coming in New Appreciation by author
- 1:28:38Speaker 7: and critic Grady Hendricks.
- 1:28:40Speaker 2: Oh so good do Grady Hendrix is on this.
- 1:28:43Speaker 7: Hell yeah, New England US Fara to a new interview
- 1:28:46Speaker 7: with filmmaker Mick Garris is on here. New featurette looking
- 1:28:51Speaker 7: at the locations of the sales lot. Heather Wixon has
- 1:28:55Speaker 7: a featurette on here, Joe Lipsett has one, or so
- 1:29:04Speaker 7: the co host of Harror Queer's Joe Lipset and Trace Thurman.
- 1:29:08Speaker 7: So it's it's a pack set.
- 1:29:10Speaker 6: I can't wait to watch it.
- 1:29:11Speaker 7: It's I love this movie so much. It's you know,
- 1:29:16Speaker 7: we've all seen Salem's Lot, the Stephen King novel. It's
- 1:29:20Speaker 7: so this movie. The way Toby Hooper wrote directed this,
- 1:29:25Speaker 7: it just feels so rich and lived in the town itself,
- 1:29:30Speaker 7: the people and everyone about it. Atmosphere, everyone feels like
- 1:29:36Speaker 7: they're supposed to be there.
- 1:29:37Speaker 6: It's not.
- 1:29:38Speaker 7: No one's a shoe in the town. Drunk is probably
- 1:29:41Speaker 7: one of my favorite characters for this movie. He's just great.
- 1:29:46Speaker 7: I love this movie so much. It's it's amazing. Salem's
- 1:29:49Speaker 7: Lot is an incredible movie.
- 1:29:51Speaker 6: I just got that in plus a few other titles,
- 1:29:55Speaker 6: so that I'm definitely excited. I've been I've been pacing myself.
- 1:29:58Speaker 6: I've been I've been saving and getting to the point
- 1:30:01Speaker 6: where I'll be watching Salem slot because I want to. Hell,
- 1:30:04Speaker 6: I might watch it night. You know you got four hours,
- 1:30:07Speaker 6: all right, listen, I'll make the time.
- 1:30:09Speaker 7: I will say. The only knock I think is kind
- 1:30:12Speaker 7: of weird to me on this movie is the ending.
- 1:30:14Speaker 7: The very ending is just a little I don't know
- 1:30:17Speaker 7: how I feel about it to this day, but that's
- 1:30:21Speaker 7: about it.
- 1:30:22Speaker 2: Oh man, Well, at least it's better than the uh
- 1:30:25Speaker 2: it a Gary Duberman remake that it was on Hbo'll.
- 1:30:29Speaker 6: Talk about it. Oh god.
- 1:30:30Speaker 7: I remember my wife and I we had to go somewhere.
- 1:30:33Speaker 7: We were at a hotel and I took had Apple
- 1:30:38Speaker 7: TV and I took my Apple TV because I knew
- 1:30:41Speaker 7: that was premiering that night to watch it. Very disappointed.
- 1:30:45Speaker 2: Yeah, sounds about right. I didn't even watched it. When
- 1:30:47Speaker 2: I heard they cut it from like three hours down
- 1:30:49Speaker 2: in ninety minutes, I was like, I'm not gonna get this.
- 1:30:51Speaker 2: I'm gonna give this a try. Yeah, I'm waiting for
- 1:30:54Speaker 2: mine to come in. I did pre order that with
- 1:30:56Speaker 2: the Arrow hard Boiled, so I got a little bit
- 1:30:58Speaker 2: more time to wait until mine comes in. But very
- 1:31:02Speaker 2: excited for that. As you guys, just watch me stop
- 1:31:04Speaker 2: my cat from ending this episode, Steve, what about you men,
- 1:31:11Speaker 2: any last minute picks to go over?
- 1:31:13Speaker 6: Okay, I wanted to say the best for last And
- 1:31:16Speaker 6: you guys know how long I've been looking for this
- 1:31:19Speaker 6: for this is easily. I feel like I say, a
- 1:31:25Speaker 6: lot of movies are my favorites, and this movie was
- 1:31:29Speaker 6: so influential to me, especially just because of I would
- 1:31:33Speaker 6: say how unsettling it was when I first saw it,
- 1:31:35Speaker 6: and that is none other than Larry Clark's Kids nineteen
- 1:31:40Speaker 6: ninety five. I fucking love this movie.
- 1:31:46Speaker 5: It is a very.
- 1:31:49Speaker 6: Controversial, gritty look at a group of New York City
- 1:31:55Speaker 6: teens over the course of a single day, and we're
- 1:31:59Speaker 6: basically founding them around, capturing their aimless routines, a skateboarding, partying,
- 1:32:05Speaker 6: casual relationships. And so we start to see over the
- 1:32:09Speaker 6: course of the movie, over the twenty four hours, that
- 1:32:11Speaker 6: these actions ripple outward and that there's definitely consequences. So,
- 1:32:17Speaker 6: like I mentioned, directed by Larry Clark, written by Harmony Krinn,
- 1:32:21Speaker 6: and it just kind of presents a snapshot of youth
- 1:32:24Speaker 6: and recklessness. I had the slipcover version of this and
- 1:32:30Speaker 6: it was one, as I confess to you guys, one
- 1:32:33Speaker 6: of my biggest regrets not getting the box set, and
- 1:32:35Speaker 6: I was finally able to add that to my collection.
- 1:32:39Speaker 6: Comes with the Blu ray. The documentary We Were Once
- 1:32:42Speaker 6: Kids comes in a rigid, ridgid case with a slipcase
- 1:32:48Speaker 6: inside or by Tony Stella. Comes with Chris specifically, a
- 1:32:53Speaker 6: forty eight page booklet and a reversible poster. I'm just
- 1:32:59Speaker 6: so beyond thrilled to finally have this, and I just,
- 1:33:03Speaker 6: I don't know, I just love this movie more more
- 1:33:05Speaker 6: than I could describe it.
- 1:33:06Speaker 2: We got to talk offline about what you're gonna do
- 1:33:08Speaker 2: with that slip covered version.
- 1:33:13Speaker 6: TVD.
- 1:33:15Speaker 2: I don't own Kids, so I don't know.
- 1:33:18Speaker 6: You don't know.
- 1:33:18Speaker 2: I don't, I don't. I wish I did, I I had,
- 1:33:21Speaker 2: I had a DVD that that fell to disc rop. Oh,
- 1:33:26Speaker 2: so I lost that and I actually would have loved
- 1:33:29Speaker 2: I wanted that and the Bully, like the limited editions,
- 1:33:32Speaker 2: and at that time I just didn't pull the trigger
- 1:33:35Speaker 2: on them quick enough.
- 1:33:35Speaker 6: As long I know, Bully is another one. That Bully
- 1:33:40Speaker 6: is another one that I would like to eventually get
- 1:33:43Speaker 6: my hands on, and a couple real quickly before we
- 1:33:47Speaker 6: wrap up that I just wanted to touch on so Uh,
- 1:33:51Speaker 6: I know that Jordan already mentioned some of the ones
- 1:33:53Speaker 6: I recently got in and haven't had a chance to
- 1:33:55Speaker 6: watch him yet. So Salem's a lot demon warp body
- 1:33:59Speaker 6: of evidence, but also finally got in a bay of blood,
- 1:34:04Speaker 6: Mario Baba's classic Hell Yeah, and last but not least,
- 1:34:09Speaker 6: I got this on sale. Funny. We were talking about
- 1:34:13Speaker 6: this four K of the addiction from Abel Ferira, so
- 1:34:18Speaker 6: pretty pumped to dive into all these.
- 1:34:22Speaker 2: Yeah, I haven't been getting much at all, man, I
- 1:34:24Speaker 2: got the uh, what's the last thing that I got in?
- 1:34:28Speaker 2: I think the large Ventrere curison set.
- 1:34:32Speaker 6: You got your work cut up for you with that.
- 1:34:34Speaker 2: Yeah, No, Between that and the Hannikey box set, I
- 1:34:38Speaker 2: feel like I'm gonna be depressed for a long time.
- 1:34:40Speaker 6: You will be Oh no, that's not good.
- 1:34:43Speaker 2: It's actually funny. I was looking at like some of
- 1:34:45Speaker 2: the because I have I have a bunch of uh
- 1:34:48Speaker 2: not a bunch. I have like a probably a half
- 1:34:52Speaker 2: of Vontreer's films on various formats, like I'm Breaking the
- 1:34:57Speaker 2: Waves in Antichrist from Criterion. I'm gonna hold onto those
- 1:35:00Speaker 2: for the bonus features, and those are great, So I'm
- 1:35:04Speaker 2: excited to get into that set and kind of look
- 1:35:06Speaker 2: at some of the other movies that he's put out
- 1:35:08Speaker 2: that weren't kind of the biggest stuff, you know. No, boys,
- 1:35:12Speaker 2: thank you for another excellent time here on After Hours,
- 1:35:17Speaker 2: a lot of fun talk about what we've been watching.
- 1:35:20Speaker 2: I do want to plug really quick. If you guys
- 1:35:22Speaker 2: are listening to this. Jordan and I have a brand
- 1:35:28Speaker 2: new podcast. I've decided that I wasn't spread thin enough
- 1:35:31Speaker 2: already needed to do something else. No, I'm just kidding.
- 1:35:37Speaker 2: I have been kind of itching for a while to
- 1:35:41Speaker 2: do something in the podcast format where I can just
- 1:35:43Speaker 2: kind of do this, you know, kind of what we
- 1:35:46Speaker 2: do on here on after Hours, but whittle it down
- 1:35:49Speaker 2: to more of a weekly thing where I just kind
- 1:35:52Speaker 2: of talk about what I've been watching for the week.
- 1:35:54Speaker 2: And I want to make like this very cozy show
- 1:35:56Speaker 2: that just kind of celebrates physical media in a different way.
- 1:36:00Speaker 2: So I reached out to Jordan about doing something and
- 1:36:04Speaker 2: we announced it a few days ago, a brand new
- 1:36:06Speaker 2: podcast called The Fireside Collection So Cool, which is Jordan
- 1:36:11Speaker 2: and I a weekly show where we just kind of
- 1:36:13Speaker 2: sit back and talk about what we watched for a week.
- 1:36:16Speaker 2: You know, all this stuff on physical media or in
- 1:36:18Speaker 2: movies or in streaming, whichever way we've been watching movies.
- 1:36:22Speaker 2: And as of yesterday, we have also officially joined Someone's
- 1:36:26Speaker 2: Favorite Productions podcast network. So wherever you can find Beyond
- 1:36:31Speaker 2: the Blood, you'll also be able to find Fireside Collection. Jordan,
- 1:36:35Speaker 2: thanks for doing that with me.
- 1:36:36Speaker 7: Man, Yeah, dude, thank you, Thank you for reaching out
- 1:36:39Speaker 7: to me. I know we were. This has kind of
- 1:36:41Speaker 7: been in the works and various iterations for a while,
- 1:36:45Speaker 7: and I'm just happy to finally pull the trigger on it,
- 1:36:49Speaker 7: unveil it to the world and you know, be able
- 1:36:52Speaker 7: to talk just have a good time, a couple of
- 1:36:55Speaker 7: couple of dudes just talking about movies they enjoy, you know. Yeah,
- 1:37:00Speaker 7: no crazy, crazy, nothing to it. Just have a good time.
- 1:37:03Speaker 2: No, yeah, it's just gonna be the sound of the
- 1:37:05Speaker 2: sound of a campfire and you know, just hanging out
- 1:37:09Speaker 2: talking movies. That was a whole goal. Was a great
- 1:37:11Speaker 2: kind of a cozy, kind of reflection of what we
- 1:37:13Speaker 2: watch for a week, and it's something that I like
- 1:37:15Speaker 2: to do kind of on my own time anyway. I
- 1:37:17Speaker 2: really like to kind of sit back every once in
- 1:37:19Speaker 2: a while and just kind of take the movies in
- 1:37:21Speaker 2: this kind of gives us a chance to do that
- 1:37:23Speaker 2: and kind of discuss them at the same time. So
- 1:37:27Speaker 2: I'm very excited to get that rolling. Of course, we'll
