- 2:29Speaker 2: beautiful disaster. How many of us have been involved with
- 2:33Speaker 2: one of those? My beautiful disaster created a ten year
- 2:42Speaker 2: old who is up forget grabs. If anybody wants her,
- 2:47Speaker 2: just give me a coat. But tonight, you guys have
- 2:51Speaker 2: another wonderful author who is here with us. She's gonna
- 2:55Speaker 2: tell us a little bit about this beautiful book that
- 2:59Speaker 2: I must say. Guess what, you guys. She's gonna tell
- 3:02Speaker 2: you all about her publishing how she would who I love?
- 3:06Speaker 2: Oh my God, which is one of my favorite publishing houses.

- 3:13Speaker 2: Facebook group, and the way they interact keeps the readers involved. Okay,
- 3:20Speaker 2: So I am about to bring up author tay Leise Nicole.
- 3:25Speaker 2: Come on up.
- 3:27Speaker 3: Hey, it's like that intro girl.
- 3:39Speaker 2: Welcome to sc bookyuds and friends. How is your day been?
- 3:45Speaker 3: Thank you so much. It's been okay today. I've been
- 3:48Speaker 3: traveling this weekend, so stillo jet lag, and then I
- 3:53Speaker 3: had to get home traveling, I had to get home
- 4:01Speaker 3: go to work. So I'm just I'm glad to just
- 4:04Speaker 3: sit down and you know, relax.
- 4:08Speaker 2: Well, see, we thank you for going to these events
- 4:12Speaker 2: and just blessing us with your talents. So thank you
- 4:17Speaker 2: for all the hard work you do.
- 4:20Speaker 3: Thank you, thank you. I appreciate that.
- 4:23Speaker 2: So, since we got all that nice stuff out the way,
- 4:26Speaker 2: tell us a little bit about yourself.
- 4:29Speaker 3: Okay, a little bit about me. I'm Talise Nicole. I
- 4:33Speaker 3: am very very very new as a writer. I started
- 4:38Speaker 3: off doing coaching, so life coaching, self love coach, and
- 4:44Speaker 3: then I had a blog on talisaquote dot com that
- 4:47Speaker 3: did pretty good. And then I would write short stories
- 4:51Speaker 3: here and there and put them out. I put one
- 4:54Speaker 3: out to this Facebook group. I think it's black Girls
- 4:58Speaker 3: right too. I want to say that's the one. And
- 5:02Speaker 3: I came across this other author named Samira Alexander. I
- 5:06Speaker 3: always shout her out every time because she really, she's
- 5:09Speaker 3: very Uh, she's my career wouldn't have I wouldn't have
- 5:14Speaker 3: started without her. But she read that the short story
- 5:17Speaker 3: of a beautiful disaster, and she reached out to me
- 5:21Speaker 3: and she was like, you know, I'm very active just
- 5:23Speaker 3: as a reader in the community. So she was like,
- 5:27Speaker 3: Bata read for her, which I did, and she put
- 5:31Speaker 3: me in this other group I see you reading whose
- 5:34Speaker 3: event I was at this weekend and she was like,
- 5:38Speaker 3: they do freestyle Fridays. I want you to just you know,
- 5:41Speaker 3: sign up for one. Just it's a random topic. You
- 5:44Speaker 3: don't know what it is until Friday, and then writes
- 5:47Speaker 3: a story. Then I wrote one and she was like, no,
- 5:50Speaker 3: you're not sitting on this no more. This is a gift.
- 5:53Speaker 3: She was like, let's do this, and we me and
- 5:55Speaker 3: her got together and we did. We co authored a
- 5:57Speaker 3: book called Silent Night, Dark Desires that happened in November
- 6:03Speaker 3: and ever since then. It's a it's actually a Christmas book,
- 6:05Speaker 3: so but it's a it's a it's a horror. So
- 6:11Speaker 3: it's like a Christmas you think Christmas time, you think
- 6:13Speaker 3: it's cute, but no, it's like what could go wrong
- 6:15Speaker 3: at Christmas? Everything can go wrong in this book, everything
- 6:19Speaker 3: did go wrong, so and yeah, so ever since then,
- 6:25Speaker 3: I was like, okay, I'm gonna do this, you know.
- 6:28Speaker 3: So she took me under her wing. I learned a
- 6:30Speaker 3: lot in a short time. And yeah, that's pretty much
- 6:35Speaker 3: my story of becoming a writer. So I like to
- 6:39Speaker 3: write thrillers. Thrillers are thriller and horror is probably gonna
- 6:43Speaker 3: be my first love. But I like romance too, so.
- 6:48Speaker 2: Thrillers and horrors. So when the purge happened, I'm gonna
- 6:52Speaker 2: need you to come down here in so see.
- 6:55Speaker 3: I know I know what's gonna happen because if I
- 6:58Speaker 3: write that, oh, I got you.
- 7:02Speaker 2: You can give me all kinds of ideas. How you're
- 7:06Speaker 2: right here? Were so tell us about a beautiful disaster.
- 7:14Speaker 3: Okay. So it started off as that short story and
- 7:19Speaker 3: black Girl's right too, and I wrote it. I was
- 7:23Speaker 3: very upset. I actually named the character and from the
- 7:29Speaker 3: short story after the person I was upset with. So yeah,
- 7:34Speaker 3: and he gets ended with the hammer, very very brutally.
- 7:39Speaker 3: So I wrote that and I put it out there
- 7:45Speaker 3: and everybody loved it. It's something that you can really
- 7:48Speaker 3: relate to just anybody, women, men. Once you are scorned
- 7:53Speaker 3: or you know, you put so much into something a
- 7:56Speaker 3: relationship or anything and you just you it's like you
- 8:01Speaker 3: just snapped, Like no, I've been doing this this whole time.
- 8:04Speaker 3: So it's more I like, I like to write stories
- 8:09Speaker 3: that blend with twisted, like beautiful with the twisted, because
- 8:14Speaker 3: that's really just what life is. Life is just beautiful
- 8:17Speaker 3: moments mixed with unfortunate things. And I wanted to be realistic.
- 8:23Speaker 3: But at the same time, I was very angry, so
- 8:26Speaker 3: it was like, no, you're about to get it. So
- 8:29Speaker 3: that's how the story came about. But when I published
- 8:32Speaker 3: the full novel, I really got into a lot. I
- 8:40Speaker 3: went through a little crime, a little crime, thriller, a
- 8:45Speaker 3: lot of thrills, and I just made it. I made
- 8:48Speaker 3: it a full story. So it's it's I like it.
- 8:51Speaker 3: I'm proud of what it came to.
- 8:54Speaker 2: So in other words, you like, I like to say,
- 8:58Speaker 2: you kill them softly?
- 9:00Speaker 3: Yes, yes, okay, She.
- 9:08Speaker 2: Says she wrote the book about someone in the end
- 9:11Speaker 2: with the Hamilton, How in the world did you do it?
- 9:18Speaker 2: I was just about to ask, do the characters talk
- 9:21Speaker 2: to you? But I'm scared to ask.
- 9:24Speaker 3: Yeah, they do they talk, they do they talk. I'm like,
- 9:29Speaker 3: there's a one one detective in there that is really
- 9:33Speaker 3: he's just a grumpy old detective. And I was up late,
- 9:38Speaker 3: I was I don't I didn't know what direction I
- 9:40Speaker 3: wanted to go with him. And I was just like,
- 9:42Speaker 3: if I was just a like a forty five year
- 9:45Speaker 3: old man that's just hit it like a brick wall
- 9:49Speaker 3: in my career and some little young guy comes around
- 9:52Speaker 3: and takes all thunder, well, how would I feel? So yep,
- 9:56Speaker 3: I had to stay up with him, with that detective
- 9:59Speaker 3: Roland Greer, stay up with him and really figure him out.
- 10:02Speaker 3: But I liked how it all came.
- 10:06Speaker 2: So you started out with your blog Life Coach blog
- 10:12Speaker 2: Short Stories. How has been a life coach? And we
- 10:17Speaker 2: just talked backstage at your mother. How has that played
- 10:22Speaker 2: into your writing? Do you use some of the things
- 10:26Speaker 2: for your writing or how? How does it tie in? Yeah?
- 10:30Speaker 3: Yep, it all times in when I was coaching and
- 10:34Speaker 3: just listening to other people's issues and what they wanted
- 10:38Speaker 3: to get sorted out, I will put myself in their
- 10:41Speaker 3: place too. I would say, you know, I maybe would
- 10:46Speaker 3: not have done that that way, but I understand why
- 10:49Speaker 3: you did because of you know what you were going through.
- 10:53Speaker 3: So yeah, a lot of that, and just being a
- 10:58Speaker 3: mom and having to figure things out. You know, I
- 11:00Speaker 3: was a young mother. We talked about that too. I
- 11:03Speaker 3: was a young mom, a teen mom, and I had
- 11:06Speaker 3: to figure out everything. I had to figure out relationships,
- 11:10Speaker 3: how to be a mom, how to cope with the
- 11:14Speaker 3: reality of you're gonna do this by yourself that wasn't
- 11:17Speaker 3: the plan. And just learned a lot of different life skills.
- 11:22Speaker 3: And I always loved writing. I wrote all types of papers,
- 11:29Speaker 3: and I want awards. When I think I was like
- 11:31Speaker 3: third or fifth grade, I wrote something about Lisa Left
- 11:36Speaker 3: Eye Lopez. I wrote something about her when she died,
- 11:40Speaker 3: and it won some kind of award. I can't really remember.
- 11:44Speaker 3: My mom she talks about it a lot. So yeah,
- 11:48Speaker 3: I just blended all my life experiences. And some of
- 11:53Speaker 3: the characters are a lot of me myself, but others
- 11:57Speaker 3: are the other people. If I, if I was going
- 12:01Speaker 3: through this, you know, these actions that this character does
- 12:06Speaker 3: in this story will make sense, So I try to
- 12:09Speaker 3: make them very relatable.
- 12:11Speaker 2: That makes sense. That makes a lot of sense. And
- 12:14Speaker 2: I know a lot of authors they they use their
- 12:18Speaker 2: life experience, So I like that that gives the book
- 12:22Speaker 2: a personal touch, personal feel, So you know, I sometimes
- 12:27Speaker 2: feel that reading in the author, sometimes you're looking at
- 12:30Speaker 2: a part of their soul. So I like that.
- 12:33Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, definitely.
- 12:35Speaker 2: Why why killing them? Why horror? It's a very genre
- 12:47Speaker 2: when it comes to African American readers. So why that genre?
- 12:56Speaker 3: That's a good question. I just first of all, I'm
- 13:01Speaker 3: a little different than a lot of people. I like
- 13:03Speaker 3: to be scared. I like to that thrill of not
- 13:07Speaker 3: knowing what's about to happen. It gets me like my
- 13:10Speaker 3: heart gets it pumping, and I like it.
- 13:16Speaker 2: No, we cannot go two movies together because I'm talking
- 13:18Speaker 2: to you about to die? What about to happen?
- 13:23Speaker 3: Yeah? And then it's so funny because I'm the one
- 13:25Speaker 3: that's under the blanket. I'm at the movies like this
- 13:28Speaker 3: under the blanket. They're like, you the one one to
- 13:30Speaker 3: come see this, movies like yep, and we're gonna stay.
- 13:33Speaker 3: We don't stay. But I just like I like that thrill.
- 13:37Speaker 3: I like to not know and I like to really
- 13:41Speaker 3: be surprised. And I'm like, oh, that's you know that?
- 13:45Speaker 3: So I think thriller and horror just does that for me.
- 13:49Speaker 2: So I guess your book has a lot of twists
- 13:51Speaker 2: and turns.
- 13:52Speaker 3: Yes, the Beautiful Disaster does. Yeah, even in the opening
- 13:56Speaker 3: you didn't You would never see it coming if I
- 13:59Speaker 3: didn't just tell you.
- 14:02Speaker 2: So, you, guys, I'm gonna be totally honest with you.
- 14:04Speaker 2: I have not read this book. This book is on
- 14:06Speaker 2: my to be read list. Did y'all know me? Your
- 14:09Speaker 2: girl was a cover girl and this book by itself,
- 14:12Speaker 2: with that cover, which we won't talk about a little later,
- 14:16Speaker 2: was enough for me to add it to my list.
- 14:18Speaker 3: I appreciate.
- 14:20Speaker 2: You're welcome, but we're going any father. Let's talk about Nicole.
- 14:28Speaker 3: M hm.
- 14:29Speaker 2: I understand by the synopsis Botanical Shop, which is I
- 14:35Speaker 2: love the fact that your characters are not the typical
- 14:40Speaker 2: African American characters. Thank you because it makes me. It
- 14:48Speaker 2: makes me think more. Okay, I have to really put
- 14:52Speaker 2: myself in the book, bical what are you doing? Plaints for?
- 14:57Speaker 1: What is this?
- 14:58Speaker 2: But it's the way from the more so I like that.
- 15:02Speaker 2: And Detroit Botanical shop in Detroit. I'm gonna tell you
- 15:07Speaker 2: what I'm thinking. We shop in Florida. But tell me
- 15:15Speaker 2: about this character in the inspiration for her hmmm.
- 15:20Speaker 3: Okay, Nicole was inspired a lot from Talis Nicole. For myself,
- 15:28Speaker 3: she's very there's a part of me which I feel
- 15:32Speaker 3: like is every woman where you can be very, very
- 15:36Speaker 3: very sweet and very naive. And you know, you put
- 15:42Speaker 3: yourself in these situations, these relationships with people that you
- 15:46Speaker 3: know you don't need to be around. You know you
- 15:49Speaker 3: should have been stopped, but you keep going anyway, and
- 15:53Speaker 3: it's like you cutting yourself. You already hurting yourself by
- 15:57Speaker 3: just saying, but you stay anyway because you really want
- 16:00Speaker 3: it to work. But when you get tired, when you
- 16:03Speaker 3: get to that point and you snap, it's like I
- 16:09Speaker 3: did everything that I could do. Why would you do that?
- 16:13Speaker 3: And this is the consequence of doing that? So, yeah,
- 16:16Speaker 3: Nicola is she's very soft, she's very fragile. She's been
- 16:22Speaker 3: hurt a lot, and when she gets hurt, people start
- 16:28Speaker 3: going missing, people go missing. And her plants are shining
- 16:37Speaker 3: even brighter and healthier.
- 16:45Speaker 2: And the plant is what kind of murderous stuff you
- 16:48Speaker 2: got going on here?
- 16:50Speaker 3: The plants are healthy, vibrants and beautiful and bouncy. You
- 16:56Speaker 3: can buy them, sometimes they don't.
- 16:57Speaker 2: Sell, y'all. This is okay, this is getting scary. The
- 17:09Speaker 2: next thing, you know, I'm gonna ask this question because
- 17:12Speaker 2: y'all don't mean is she fleeting feeding the plants the blood?
- 17:16Speaker 3: Please say no, I don't know. You gotta read the book.
- 17:22Speaker 2: You gotta read author, like, look the book. I'm working
- 17:30Speaker 2: on a review right now. Your book might be pushed
- 17:32Speaker 2: to side. I'm sorry, but this isn't kind of interesting.
- 17:36Speaker 3: I understand my TBR.
- 17:40Speaker 2: Girl, I don't. I don't even want to talk about
- 17:42Speaker 2: a TVR list. I just's laun jesus, I can't even
- 17:49Speaker 2: go down that road. So Detective Eric Robinson tell us
- 17:55Speaker 2: a little about about him, says, my understanding is that
- 18:01Speaker 2: there's some nopsist and I'm like, y'all know that I've
- 18:04Speaker 2: not read the book. But he meets the poet and
- 18:09Speaker 2: I'm far fetching she not killed a poet?
- 18:14Speaker 3: Oh, yeah, he's gone in chapter one. Yeah. The whole
- 18:20Speaker 3: story is about Detective Eric Robinson trying to solve the
- 18:25Speaker 3: case of a missing person who happens to be Jamal
- 18:29Speaker 3: the poet. What she had to kill him? Dad? In
- 18:34Speaker 3: the first chapter, you know what, I asked a question,
- 18:41Speaker 3: I said, what what makes a thriller book a five star?
- 18:45Speaker 3: For you? And everybody? Most people were like somebody needs
- 18:48Speaker 3: to die immediately. Okay, I get people what they want.
- 18:56Speaker 2: In the first chapter. Come on, first.
- 19:00Speaker 3: Chapter to give you people what they want.
- 19:03Speaker 2: Y'all know what it's always them offers with the smile
- 19:07Speaker 2: that will kill you with the pen and then come
- 19:09Speaker 2: back to you the next day. How you doing, girl?
- 19:12Speaker 2: You know, kill we with the opinion? Yep.
- 19:18Speaker 3: I was just yeah. So the whole book is just
- 19:22Speaker 3: based off that short story. So that's what happened in
- 19:24Speaker 3: the short story, and it's already out there, so you know,
- 19:28Speaker 3: they're like, well, what happens next? So I just continued
- 19:31Speaker 3: it from what happened next? But the chapter one is
- 19:34Speaker 3: just a short recap of what happened and then we
- 19:38Speaker 3: go into what happens next.
- 19:41Speaker 2: Oh god, she's kevin people and then she talking about
- 19:43Speaker 2: short recaps. I just don't even understand what to do
- 19:46Speaker 2: with my life with you with this book. So we
- 19:52Speaker 2: already told y'all a little bit about the book. So
- 19:55Speaker 2: now we're about to go to these funs questions I've
- 19:57Speaker 2: been telling you about. Okay, okay, alrighty. I love music,
- 20:03Speaker 2: I love movies mhm, and I like to incorporate that
- 20:08Speaker 2: into my books.
- 20:09Speaker 3: Mm hmmm.
- 20:12Speaker 2: Who would pay Nicole if your book was turned to
- 20:18Speaker 2: a movie, and why would they play her?
- 20:24Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 20:27Speaker 2: I'm gonna tell you a little bit of what I'm thinking,
- 20:31Speaker 2: and I know it's not the situation of the book,
- 20:34Speaker 2: but I'm thinking about that chicken acrimony because Nicole sound
- 20:39Speaker 2: three read How do you see three winds shy of
- 20:44Speaker 2: a sale or something like that?
- 20:49Speaker 3: Mm hmmm, yeah, so you mean Taragia Taragi.
- 20:55Speaker 2: There you go. I'm thinking that.
- 20:57Speaker 3: Would be I could see Taragi playing call. I could
- 21:01Speaker 3: see that. Yeah.
- 21:03Speaker 2: But if you can get as who would it be?
- 21:08Speaker 3: Whom? That's so hard? If I could get anybody. I
- 21:13Speaker 3: was thinking me Along at first in my head. She
- 21:16Speaker 3: still looks so young, Nicole is. She's a little young,
- 21:19Speaker 3: she's like thirty. But me along still, but she's still
- 21:22Speaker 3: a good.
- 21:23Speaker 2: Okay, me along, I can see that. I can see that. Okay,
- 21:29Speaker 2: I can see me along. I can see that. Okay,
- 21:33Speaker 2: So we did an actress. Let's think of a singer.
- 21:37Speaker 2: Who would she be? Singer? Huh? I'm thinking Monica. And
- 21:44Speaker 2: the only reason why I'm thinking Monica because I know
- 21:47Speaker 2: there is something not right upstairs with Monica.
- 21:51Speaker 3: She's from Atlanta. So she a hood for sure?
- 21:58Speaker 2: Monica or little more or Michelle she's another one that.
- 22:05Speaker 3: Yeah, probably Ca Michelle. I could seek Michelle doing it
- 22:16Speaker 3: because you know, you seek Michelle in a movie you like,
- 22:19Speaker 3: because she she's already a little some screw's missing, so
- 22:24Speaker 3: you already expect, like, okay, she about to be somebody. Yeah,
- 22:29Speaker 3: I would say Michelle, that's a good Yeah, Ca Michelle, alrighty?
- 22:34Speaker 2: Which Rapper would play Detective Eric?
- 22:39Speaker 3: Who somebody fine? Because Detective Eric Robinson was fine in
- 22:43Speaker 3: my head when I was writing, Man, I know that
- 22:49Speaker 3: would be that would be that would be really nice.
- 22:53Speaker 2: Man. Yeah, yeah, I just had a moment I apologize.
- 23:04Speaker 3: Oh Rapper, Oh I'm bad with this. I'm so bad
- 23:13Speaker 3: with it.
- 23:14Speaker 2: You know That's why I don't give you all these questions.
- 23:19Speaker 3: You got me want to look up Rapper. I can't
- 23:21Speaker 3: even think of nobody.
- 23:25Speaker 2: I also saw k R S one.
- 23:33Speaker 3: KRS maybe.
- 23:38Speaker 2: Yeah, I know. I don't think he can be a
- 23:42Speaker 2: DMX DMS is this bad boy all the way. I
- 23:46Speaker 2: can't see DMX ever being any type of law enforcement figure.
- 23:57Speaker 2: But if you can't think of Rapper, how about I'm
- 24:00Speaker 2: male actor? Who would it be? And why.
- 24:07Speaker 3: It had to be somebody that plays like really noble characters,
- 24:11Speaker 3: like really noble.
- 24:12Speaker 2: Men, noble characters.
- 24:18Speaker 3: I'm not gonna I would say Loreen's taped, Yeah, Loreene
- 24:22Speaker 3: s Yeah.
- 24:23Speaker 2: He's a cute lit shit or the one, Yeah, I
- 24:25Speaker 2: can see that, or what's the dude who Makai Pfiffer.
- 24:30Speaker 3: Yeah, Makai Pfiffer. Yep.
- 24:34Speaker 2: Yes, from what I've read, I can see those two characters.
- 24:39Speaker 3: Yep.
- 24:40Speaker 2: But wait, hold up, Lifetime is on the line and
- 24:45Speaker 2: they love the fact that your movie about a beautiful
- 24:51Speaker 2: disaster was a hit, so they say, you know what,
- 24:54Speaker 2: We're gonna do a biopic on you. Who would you
- 24:58Speaker 2: give the honor of playing you? And why?
- 25:02Speaker 3: Oh dang see I oh man, And I keep thinking
- 25:13Speaker 3: about just like local Detroit actresses and things like that.
- 25:23Speaker 3: So I would hope, you know, because if something like
- 25:25Speaker 3: that wasn't happen, I would definitely be all hometown. Like
- 25:28Speaker 3: I'm starting from home first, you know, black black authors, writers.
- 25:35Speaker 3: I want like a full black studio, and I want
- 25:38Speaker 3: Detroit first. So I keep thinking about, Shoot, I'm gonna
- 25:43Speaker 3: mess her name up, makiwa Albritton. She does some local movies,
- 25:49Speaker 3: she do a lot of local movies.
- 25:50Speaker 2: I would think her and why did you choose her?
- 25:54Speaker 3: I feel like our personalities are similar on the screen.
- 25:59Speaker 3: She's a great actress. And then just even like her
- 26:03Speaker 3: tiktoks and her or her skit videos and stuff, she
- 26:07Speaker 3: just seems so like she seems a lot like me.
- 26:10Speaker 3: So I would think I would think she'll do good job.
- 26:14Speaker 2: Well if she seems to not like you, she seems
- 26:16Speaker 2: like she is a wonderful and great person.
- 26:19Speaker 3: Thank you, I appreciate it.
- 26:21Speaker 2: I try to be she you know what. You can't
- 26:25Speaker 2: see that, and you a horror writer and you be
- 26:27Speaker 2: killing people in your book.
- 26:30Speaker 3: To be I try. I'm nice. I let people, you know,
- 26:34Speaker 3: go out, and I'm like, okay, and keep talking. You're
- 26:37Speaker 3: gonna be next in the book, so listen.
- 26:41Speaker 2: I can see her at the desk right now. Yeah,
- 26:47Speaker 2: she kill your characters smaller at you're like, yeah, you did.
- 26:53Speaker 3: When I first wrote A Beautiful Disaster, that's short story,
- 26:55Speaker 3: I was on this laptop and I was just going
- 26:58Speaker 3: and it had got dark. I didn't even notice. I
- 27:02Speaker 3: started in the daytime and it got dark and it
- 27:04Speaker 3: was just the light from my laptop. I said, oh,
- 27:07Speaker 3: it's like, oh, shoot, I ain't feed my child baby
- 27:17Speaker 3: like you, coach. She said, yeah, I was some chicken
- 27:20Speaker 3: nuggets and okay.
- 27:23Speaker 2: Right after just get finished killing this person, we're going
- 27:25Speaker 2: to McDonald's need Okay.
- 27:26Speaker 3: Right, I was going, Man, So.
- 27:33Speaker 2: What does literary success look like in me?
- 27:37Speaker 1: To you?
- 27:39Speaker 3: Oh? See, that is so loaded, But it's really a
- 27:42Speaker 3: simple answer. It's whatever you want it to be. It's
- 27:45Speaker 3: different for everybody, and for me, it just looks like
- 27:49Speaker 3: people really enjoying my book. That means that I've done
- 27:53Speaker 3: all the research to make great characters. I keep taking
- 27:59Speaker 3: these different writers versus trying to expand how I write.
- 28:04Speaker 3: That means I really took it serious and I really
- 28:07Speaker 3: put it all in and that people like it. So
- 28:11Speaker 3: I mean, yeah, you know, money and stuff that would
- 28:13Speaker 3: be nice. I don't want to work. I would rather
- 28:17Speaker 3: have I'd rather write full time. I mean, that's the goal.
- 28:20Speaker 3: But to be successful in it, I just feel like
- 28:25Speaker 3: you are somebody's favorite author. That to me, that's success
- 28:29Speaker 3: right there.
- 28:29Speaker 2: So, and the fact that you're actually still evolving your
- 28:34Speaker 2: craft is beautiful. A lot of people, once they put
- 28:39Speaker 2: out that first book, they don't think to go back
- 28:42Speaker 2: and take writing classes. They don't think to go back
- 28:45Speaker 2: and read other authors. They just think, Okay, I did
- 28:48Speaker 2: and I've arrived and that's it. But the fact that
- 28:50Speaker 2: you are investing in yourself, investing in your craft, that's
- 28:57Speaker 2: for me a reader like me. That makes me want
- 29:00Speaker 2: to go get your book and just be like, I
- 29:02Speaker 2: read it. I just bought it because she cool like that,
- 29:04Speaker 2: you know what I'm saying.
- 29:07Speaker 3: I appreciate it. I do. Yeah, I'm always a student.
- 29:12Speaker 3: I'll forever be a student. And I love all these
- 29:16Speaker 3: indie authors. I'm just I'm obsessed with them. I think
- 29:20Speaker 3: they threw me in the group with them, so we
- 29:22Speaker 3: have like little messages every day, and I learned so
- 29:25Speaker 3: much from them. They always throwing things that they probably
- 29:28Speaker 3: don't even realize, and I'm like, oh that makes sense,
- 29:31Speaker 3: So I take it, I apply it, I forever. I
- 29:36Speaker 3: love different elements in all of them, so the best
- 29:40Speaker 3: parts of them, I try to take it and make
- 29:43Speaker 3: it my own. Like Octavia Grant, She's so unhinged her characters,
- 29:49Speaker 3: like you think what I did with a hammer? She
- 29:52Speaker 3: doing all kind of stuff and I'm just like, how
- 29:55Speaker 3: you even think of that? So she makes me want
- 29:57Speaker 3: to oh, Octavia Grant, hold on, I'm gonna get Grant.
- 30:10Speaker 3: And then there's Kenya mass Dime. She is like, she's
- 30:13Speaker 3: a O G. I don't even see how I didn't
- 30:15Speaker 3: know about her prior to last year. So when I
- 30:18Speaker 3: first found out about her, her stories are timeless, They're
- 30:22Speaker 3: so well crafted.
- 30:24Speaker 2: Uh.
- 30:24Speaker 3: Samirah Alexander, she's the one that put me on. She
- 30:28Speaker 3: brought me into the the reader's world. She opened that
- 30:32Speaker 3: door her hers the first story that I read by her,
- 30:37Speaker 3: she has so much going on. It was all psychological
- 30:40Speaker 3: and I like to think. So I was like, Wow,
- 30:42Speaker 3: this is amazing, keep on going. Then there's Kara and James,
- 30:49Speaker 3: She's amazing. There's Anna j Anna j was I think
- 30:55Speaker 3: I believe she started off Rodica. Yeah see, uh huh,
- 31:04Speaker 3: and now she writing thriller and so she when I
- 31:06Speaker 3: got from her was that if you want to write,
- 31:09Speaker 3: just write. You don't have to be boxed into one
- 31:11Speaker 3: genre if you want to expand. So like my new
- 31:14Speaker 3: book that's coming out September ninth is a romance. So oh,
- 31:20Speaker 3: I'm trying to find where I'm you know, my love
- 31:25Speaker 3: after man.
- 31:26Speaker 2: I love authors that do not put theirself in a box.
- 31:29Speaker 2: Because what you don't think you might be successful in
- 31:32Speaker 2: you may be way successful than you thought. So I
- 31:36Speaker 2: love the fact that that's happening.
- 31:38Speaker 3: Yep.
- 31:39Speaker 2: So we're getting close to the end of our time.
- 31:42Speaker 2: But before we let you go, please tell us how

- 33:23Speaker 2: So should I go with that mindset in your book

- 34:31Speaker 2: I'm going to read the book, but I'm also scared
