Transcript
- 0:02[SPEAKER_00]: Hi, folks.
- 0:03[SPEAKER_00]: Welcome to the episode of Film Study.
- 0:04[SPEAKER_00]: This is Candidacusic, and it's time for Friday morning GM this week with my co-host, Vasile Rico's Voss.
- 0:09[SPEAKER_00]: How you doing?
- 0:10[SPEAKER_01]: Life is good, Ken.
- 0:11[SPEAKER_01]: After very disappointing week to showing, the Ravens have poured into a four-way tie.
- 0:16[SPEAKER_01]: It's top the AFC North with a thrilling, absolutely thrilling, a three-wheel.
- 0:21[SPEAKER_00]: Unbelievable, wasn't it?
- 0:22[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, just it was a back and forth game.
- 0:25[SPEAKER_00]: The game had everything in terms of great offense and whatnot.
- 0:29[SPEAKER_00]: You know, one of the things that's interesting about this is the Ravens left a lot of points on the field in that game.
- 0:33[SPEAKER_00]: They could have easily won this game by three touchdowns.
- 0:35[SPEAKER_00]: They had five drives that gave away with an errand pass or a two-fourth-down conversions that didn't work out.
- 0:43[SPEAKER_00]: So, unfortunate, and you know, some things to certainly pick up from that, but you know, a great outcome anyway.
- 0:51[SPEAKER_01]: for sure.
- 0:52[SPEAKER_01]: I was really just thrilling.
- 0:53[SPEAKER_01]: I gave a brief personal story.
- 0:55[SPEAKER_01]: We're throwing a 70th birthday party for my mother in the restaurant.
- 0:59[SPEAKER_01]: Of course, I brought the iPads, so my kids and I could watch it.
- 1:02[SPEAKER_01]: The party was breaking out, we're keeping an eye on the game, and then we're in the car on 695, and then we get to the light at my exit.
- 1:08[SPEAKER_01]: Literally, Rick wouldn't loop, he's lining up, so I have a chance to turn my head and look at it.
- 1:12[SPEAKER_01]: And as as soon as I saw, come off his foot, I said, it's good, everybody's just going nuts in the car.
- 1:15[SPEAKER_01]: That was awesome.
- 1:17[SPEAKER_00]: You know, it looked for our angle.
- 1:20[SPEAKER_00]: It looked like the ball was going to go through the uprights.
- 1:23[SPEAKER_00]: But I really wanted to wait for the signal.
- 1:25[SPEAKER_00]: And then when I saw on TV, it was like really close to that left upright.
- 1:29[SPEAKER_01]: So, anyway.
- 1:31[SPEAKER_01]: Had the right draw, I could tell that other right draw was fun.
- 1:33[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, all right, we'll fair enough, come back to Rio in a second year because there's some things about the trip back that certainly present challenges for the Ravens this next week, but the Ravens did have some transactions so far this week.
- 1:46[SPEAKER_00]: Carl Jones was cut, obviously back up in some linebackers, I don't know if the Ravens really need him anymore, but you can in fact, they've got four healthy bodies there and that's really all they need.
- 1:55[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, I think we predicted that last show that they brought them up to preserve future elevations down the road, and as soon as we can, on the back, you would be demoted.
- 2:03[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, so a private demoted, probably resigned, I would think, and then would have a couple of elevations remaining, I believe, should be two, should be two, okay.
- 2:14[SPEAKER_01]: at least one.
- 2:14[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 2:14[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 2:15[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 2:16[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not sure if the if if the same game is on a 53 or not, I think that's really what comes down to.
- 2:21[SPEAKER_00]: Um okay.
- 2:22[SPEAKER_00]: Now we are presuming that both Gwyn and Pocic will head die are.
- 2:26[SPEAKER_00]: They're both of already been, you know, chalked up as long-term injuries.
- 2:30[SPEAKER_00]: Uh Gwyn had a fractured fibula that he already cut operated on.
- 2:33[SPEAKER_00]: So certainly added IR.
- 2:35[SPEAKER_00]: And Pocic, uh, don't know the extent of the damage in terms of what appear to be a fairly
- 2:44[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yeah, I look like he got speared in the knee by some by the defenders helmet and that potential obviously You know, just terrible terrible luck there.
- 2:53[SPEAKER_01]: Quinn He surprised if he returns this season post sick depends on the severity You know, you know, you're not gonna pay linder bomb all that money.
- 3:02[SPEAKER_01]: It just didn't make any sense for the team
- 3:04[SPEAKER_01]: You don't get the guys you want on the draft.
- 3:05[SPEAKER_01]: Could they have drafted a different guy to later round?
- 3:07[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, probably.
- 3:09[SPEAKER_01]: Then you go out and you get three veterans who have all played some extent.
- 3:13[SPEAKER_01]: And then all three are when I are by week four.
- 3:16[SPEAKER_01]: I know the cost has taken heat in the fan base from some, but I mean, that's definitely some just cluster injury bad luck there for sure.
- 3:26[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, if you're blamed the cost of this, I've got no real.
- 3:32[SPEAKER_00]: respect for your opinion.
- 3:33[SPEAKER_00]: Honestly, it's just, this is a case of, uh, there's only so much bad luck you can take, you can plant, and there's only so much bad luck you can plan for.
- 3:41[SPEAKER_00]: Um, you know, they, they had to have two backups at each of those positions, which is basically what they had with Gwen Posick and Pinter.
- 3:49[SPEAKER_00]: Now, if you want to claim, Gwen wasn't playing well enough, that's another matter.
- 3:52[SPEAKER_00]: If you're claiming Posick wasn't really ready, and they knew it, that's another matter.
- 3:56[SPEAKER_00]: But I don't think Posick's into, I think Posick's injury was completely independent of the injury already had.
- 4:01[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so we didn't really get a chance to tell that project wasn't ready.
- 4:05[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so, you know, Adlock, and we'll get to how to reshift the online later.
- 4:11[SPEAKER_01]: Fortunately, it looks like Vega might be able to play some Sarah.
- 4:14[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 4:14[SPEAKER_00]: So three open spots currently on the roster with Jones cut and those two we expect to go, which would take the roster down to 50.
- 4:22[SPEAKER_00]: I don't ever remember the roster being at 50 before.
- 4:25[SPEAKER_00]: There have been some seasons when the ravens have been tried to be really chancy with cap space and leave the open roster spot.
- 4:31[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 4:32[SPEAKER_01]: That would be the reason why you don't fill all 53 this week, maybe you're a couple hundred thousand here, a couple hundred thousand there.
- 4:40[SPEAKER_01]: The other thing is
- 4:41[SPEAKER_01]: Yep, so now we're approaching the window where Balakone and out of Randall can be turned after we before.
- 4:47[SPEAKER_01]: So that could potentially be two of the spots they might just want to hold them and hold them on that cap space.
- 4:53[SPEAKER_01]: I think they'd like to add a veteran offensive lineman.
- 4:56[SPEAKER_01]: According to Joseph Rebeck, they had a try out with Graham Blaskam, who was a former center, and a big name that I think a lot of people are hoping for is Kevin Zitler, but unfortunately he latched on with the packers, I think today or yesterday, apparently there was mutual interest between the ravens, but four million dollars, I guess the ravens were willing to go there.
- 5:16[SPEAKER_00]: The Packers paid him 4 million.
- 5:17[SPEAKER_01]: That's the number that I think I think you can go up to five with incentives, but it's at least four, which is, you know, big money parent Johnsonson, but it wouldn't have we're not to get on that that grow again.
- 5:30[SPEAKER_00]: But it's, it's big money for assigning this time of year.
- 5:33[SPEAKER_00]: You've already lost some games off the thing.
- 5:34[SPEAKER_00]: And normally, this is a time when you any vet, you sign off the street would be a vet minimum signing.
- 5:40[SPEAKER_00]: And Zaitler's just a very rare, rare case that he's available.
- 5:44[SPEAKER_00]: He might have, you know, it's might have been the plan all long for him.
- 5:47[SPEAKER_00]: He's like, let's maximize the dollars and get out of one more contract.
- 5:50[SPEAKER_00]: Also maximize the situation.
- 5:52[SPEAKER_01]: That's just what I'm telling also.
- 5:53[SPEAKER_01]: He's from Wisconsin, I believe.
- 5:54[SPEAKER_01]: He want to Wisconsin.
- 5:56[SPEAKER_00]: That makes sense.
- 5:57[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 5:59[SPEAKER_00]: All right, so the Ravens have some additional rosters juggling to do.
- 6:02[SPEAKER_00]: We'll find out about all that.
- 6:03[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I think on Saturday.
- 6:05[SPEAKER_00]: So Friday, they'll have an injury report Saturday.
- 6:08[SPEAKER_00]: They'll have the pregame transactions and that's when I expect when and post it to both go on IR as well as any other move to the 53 necessary.
- 6:15[SPEAKER_00]: We'll get to some other transactions.
- 6:17[SPEAKER_00]: They did sign a couple of line men after tryouts, not in the last scale, but others and we'll talk about them.
- 6:23[SPEAKER_00]: We'll get to the offensive line in a few minutes.
- 6:28[SPEAKER_00]: wanted to talk about the game coming up against the Titans because it's played under special circumstances.
- 6:32[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, obviously, they've, we just did the trip ourselves.
- 6:36[SPEAKER_00]: It's a 36 hour commitment in just travel time.
- 6:40[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm talking door to door travel time.
- 6:42[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if you guys think of it this way, but I mean, I'm like, what time that I actually have to leave the house to go to the airport to get on that damn flight to, by the time I get to my hotel on the other side, that's total travel time.
- 6:53[SPEAKER_01]: It's about APM connection, yeah, or if you have a connection, that's exactly the way I look at it too, because traveling abroad sometimes you have to drive the Philadelphia or dollars and then you have a layover and one dinner or something I've had that previous times and yeah, yeah.
- 7:06[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I have assumed the team had more of a direct route, but that's a long time on a plane.
- 7:11[SPEAKER_01]: There were reports that they got in Monday morning and something like 50 of the players hit the weight room, as soon as they landed or something, it got to be her dad, the facility.
- 7:20[SPEAKER_01]: So that was good.
- 7:22[SPEAKER_01]: Apparently, I'm not just coming from back to Gil, but when they got to Rio, they all kind of, a swimming pool, when they were jumping around, kind of reactivating the legs.
- 7:31[SPEAKER_01]: So anyway,
- 7:33[SPEAKER_01]: It's a long flight, you know, that does take a toll.
- 7:35[SPEAKER_01]: Long flights exhaust me, I don't feel right for a couple days after a 10 hour flight.
- 7:39[SPEAKER_01]: And 18 is, I can even imagine.
- 7:41[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, even we break it up into two, six to the roughly, and the, the, the flights to South America, I'm gonna say specifically.
- 7:50[SPEAKER_00]: absolutely suck.
- 7:51[SPEAKER_00]: The airlines that go there if you don't fly a major US airline or sardine cans, Avianco, which we went on, has a business class that's three rows of you get that are basically southwest with fees.
- 8:08[SPEAKER_00]: And they're no different.
- 8:09[SPEAKER_00]: The seats are exactly the same as the R for the back.
- 8:11[SPEAKER_00]: It's just a middle seat has replaced kind of by a table between the two seats.
- 8:16[SPEAKER_00]: So it's not any, it's really no difference at all from flying coach, other than maybe a couple inches of leg roll.
- 8:23[SPEAKER_00]: And even that is not much, guys leaning back into you are not comfortable if you're my size anyway.
- 8:29[SPEAKER_00]: And the people in the back, they're seeing the seats up front and they're saying, you know, oh my god, could I buy this seat?
- 8:35[SPEAKER_00]: You know, whatever is in the back, unbelievably bad.
- 8:39[SPEAKER_00]: So the concept complaints from all of us people in the flight.
- 8:42[SPEAKER_00]: So anyway, that's true of Latam Airlines too.
- 8:45[SPEAKER_00]: If you can fly, if you fly to South America, highly recommend you fly at American Airlines to get there that will give you a little more legroom on a longer flight.
- 8:55[SPEAKER_01]: Good advice.
- 8:56[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, the seats are tight.
- 8:59[SPEAKER_01]: I've been a little whiny.
- 9:00[SPEAKER_01]: I've taken some long flights and it takes a toll on your body.
- 9:03[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it really does.
- 9:04[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I've been a toll on the time, so I can definitely relate.
- 9:08[SPEAKER_00]: We've got the Ravens come back as 11 and a half point favorites against the Titans.
- 9:12[SPEAKER_00]: This has trap game written all over for it, you know, anytime you're favored by as much as Ravens are.
- 9:17[SPEAKER_00]: It has trap game written all over it.
- 9:19[SPEAKER_00]: Ravens are 35 and oh, in their history, when they've been favored by 11 plus.
- 9:24[SPEAKER_00]: The rest of the league loses about 13.4% of their games and such situations.
- 9:28[SPEAKER_00]: They're 866 winning percentage over the last 30 years, 1996 to the present.
- 9:38[SPEAKER_00]: I, this is not a zero chance to lose this game and, you know, there's a whole bunch of, if they can't do this, they're not even a series contender.
- 9:45[SPEAKER_00]: If they can't, if they live above the, you know, the truth of the matter is there is a risk.
- 9:50[SPEAKER_00]: And these circumstances are exceptionally bad to come back to this sort of a game.
- 9:54[SPEAKER_00]: I think a point spread is probably too high given what it is.
- 9:58[SPEAKER_00]: And yet, you know, what I really want to see, I want to see a runaway game.
- 10:02[SPEAKER_00]: where the ravens, let's just put it this way.
- 10:05[SPEAKER_00]: I hope one team wins this game 35 to 7 because I think the chances got about 95 to 97% that is the ravens.
- 10:13[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, the Clayton staff maybe.
- 10:16[SPEAKER_01]: less than a handful of players don't start on the Ravens, I think, Simmons, and maybe a couple of their off-lots of Lyme and Skoranel Dave take, but he hasn't gotten off to the Gristart.
- 10:27[SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, I think the Ravens have our highly motivated to give the home fans a victory after blowing home opener, and I think it was
- 10:37[SPEAKER_01]: I don't recall one of the players said, I came under the last time we went home and that's just, you know, going back to the, you know, the Ray Lewis area, they would sometimes win E games, all E games at home, or seven out of eight, that was, they won the best home winning percentages and to now have this major turnaround, you know, you hear the more at the podium, I think they're, I think they're offset a little bit of the trap game, you know, liability.
- 11:03[SPEAKER_00]: It has been a long time November 23rd of last year against the New York Chets as the last win in home.
- 11:08[SPEAKER_00]: They went 23 to 10.
- 11:09[SPEAKER_00]: They lost their last lost the Cincinnati lost a Pittsburgh lost in New England to finish the regular season at home and they lost their first game this year.
- 11:18[SPEAKER_00]: So for game home losing streak that is really a nasty
- 11:23[SPEAKER_01]: You want to go back to March of Broder for that, to be honest, or maybe the ill exhaust year, because that's highly unusual for this franchise.
- 11:30[SPEAKER_01]: That's also how the Derek Henry revenge game narrative as well.
- 11:35[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so we got that, and maybe that's maybe that's a motivator.
- 11:38[SPEAKER_00]: It's really nice to hear that they're hitting the weight room when they get back.
- 11:41[SPEAKER_00]: That sounds like a, it actually sounds like it might have been something that Gil recommended again, like the swimming pool thing to try and get people the circulation flowing properly again, but definitely a positive thing.
- 11:54[SPEAKER_00]: Um, in terms of the Tyler loop kick, do you think this changes the leash he has?
- 12:00[SPEAKER_01]: Absolutely.
- 12:00[SPEAKER_01]: How could I not?
- 12:01[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, you know, hit a long one on the road under pressure.
- 12:07[SPEAKER_01]: It's got to give them, or at least, I mean, I would say it probably erases all of the tightening of the leash that occurred throughout the summer.
- 12:16[SPEAKER_01]: I would say it's probably back to square one as far as when he entered the league and everyone was optimistic.
- 12:21[SPEAKER_01]: At least that's, if I was evaluating him, that would be my evaluation.
- 12:25[SPEAKER_00]: He's been extremely successful during the regular season, so it's multiple things.
- 12:30[SPEAKER_00]: It just really extends the observed range that he's had career, so that's a big positive.
- 12:39[SPEAKER_00]: He's been given some tougher kicks this year and he's generally made him.
- 12:42[SPEAKER_00]: He did have a short one in this game too, right?
- 12:44[SPEAKER_00]: From about 25, 27 yards, I think, on one of the field drives early, so anyway, a good, very good moment for him.
- 12:54[SPEAKER_00]: What I want to mention this to, absolute pleasure to be around resilient people in general.
- 12:59[SPEAKER_00]: They're very, very nice people.
- 13:01[SPEAKER_00]: They're friendly and you don't talk the same language.
- 13:04[SPEAKER_00]: You constantly have Google Translate out on your phone and you're trying to get messages across to them.
- 13:09[SPEAKER_00]: But some of them speak a little bit of English and the funny thing about this is they really don't know anything about football.
- 13:17[SPEAKER_00]: So it's kind of like going to a football game where everybody in your
- 13:23[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, and they just they everything is new and foreign to them to get all these questions that like we'll take your own back to your own first football game in the magic that went with it, you know, the Aubrey kicked the ball through the uprights.
- 13:37[SPEAKER_00]: on the seven seconds and so that that's fairly remarkable and big, you know, flex from Aubrey in the case that turned out to work out.
- 13:46[SPEAKER_00]: But, you know, the guy next to Marina asked where he did, did they get points for that?
- 13:50[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 13:52[SPEAKER_00]: And so, you know, flags are on the field.
- 13:54[SPEAKER_00]: You know, there was a time when a marker's on the field is like, oh, I hope that's on the defense.
- 13:58[SPEAKER_00]: As if, you know, there's ever really any doubt.
- 14:00[SPEAKER_00]: Now that we're watching game what the flag is, it's a surprise when you're surprised by what the flag
- 14:06[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and as soon as I see the location of the flag and who it came from, you know what to call this.
- 14:11[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, for sure.
- 14:12[SPEAKER_01]: You know, when I told you, you know, when it's, I thought it was, well, just from the topic of the kicking through the engine.
- 14:19[SPEAKER_01]: I thought it was interesting that Minter was kind of making a point like, hey, if they didn't do that, we wouldn't have had enough time.
- 14:24[SPEAKER_01]: I think kind of defending his decision at the end of the first half and the Saints gave.
- 14:29[SPEAKER_01]: where they did kick the short, and they got a return, but I think he was kind of saying, play on the odds.
- 14:36[SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, I thought reading between the lines, I thought they were interested in it, they're made a remark of that, because you don't normally hear a coach criticize another head coach, so I think he was kind of...
- 14:45[SPEAKER_01]: Defending himself a little bit there.
- 14:46[SPEAKER_00]: It's interesting, because it's a different situation with 24 seconds left, certainly.
- 14:49[SPEAKER_00]: But I would like to have our clinical psychologist analyze that particular comment and see what he has to say.
- 14:57[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe he's got two or three to do it.
- 14:59[SPEAKER_00]: We'll have to do an episode this week.
- 15:02[SPEAKER_01]: All right, there's an episode for that episode.
- 15:04[SPEAKER_00]: Thanks, I appreciate that he's very observant.
- 15:08[SPEAKER_00]: And he really breaks it down into things people understand from their own work relationships and whatnot that are doing very good.
- 15:15[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, so let's talk about the injury report here and it's extensive, but it got a little better today than it was yesterday, so you've probably seen by the time this episode is that you've probably seen the Thursday injury report, but we'll go through it.
- 15:28[SPEAKER_00]: So, Gwen and Posec were both DMP times two and both were expected to go to IR, so it's not like there's no expectation that goes with those players.
- 15:37[SPEAKER_01]: The only question is, is Posec,
- 15:40[SPEAKER_01]: on a trifecta or is it something where he may be able to return at some point in the season.
- 15:45[SPEAKER_00]: That's a sort of tendency L strain would be the likely one that he could maybe come back after four or six weeks or whatever.
- 15:53[SPEAKER_00]: The fact that
- 15:55[SPEAKER_00]: does the fact that Mintra has already said this is a long-term injury, color in any way what's going on, or do you think, hey, it's still could be three weeks, and maybe it doesn't even have to go to IR.
- 16:06[SPEAKER_01]: I think Mintra said a good poker face with the injuries, and he was saying the long-term, but not season ending necessarily.
- 16:12[SPEAKER_01]: I think he's doing well with the poker face aspect of that stuff.
- 16:15[SPEAKER_01]: I don't really have a take on that one or another.
- 16:19[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, but a guy has already had surgery for a fractured fibula.
- 16:23[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, part of the problem is he didn't play that well while he's here in terms of going.
- 16:28[SPEAKER_00]: The second part is that if you've got a three month injury, it's probably not something you're all that excited about getting it back for the playoffs, because you don't know what kind of football shape he'd be in at that.
- 16:39[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, he'd have to build up rebuild the strength, you know, that's he's going to have a lot of atrophy, that would that kind of time off his feet.
- 16:45[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm pretty much considering Gwyn done for the year.
- 16:49[SPEAKER_01]: We've probably done red is uniform.
- 16:51[SPEAKER_00]: Well, you know, this actually brings up the possibility that Gwyn is a 90 man guy next year because he's a fourth year player and an RFA, but I think there will be a fairly strong
- 17:04[SPEAKER_00]: Sentiment is not the really the right work.
- 17:05[SPEAKER_00]: There are there are reasons why you stay with the same team after you get injured in your fourth year and a lots of things happened and Yeah, I think this could you could be a 90 man guy next year, but they'll also probably expect a draft pick at the position too.
- 17:18[SPEAKER_01]: So I hope so.
- 17:20[SPEAKER_01]: I think Watch in the first three games of the season my off season plans already form a lady if you can't do an investing on the online at the expense.
- 17:28[SPEAKER_01]: I may be some deep of the defense
- 17:30[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, all right, let's let's talk about some of the other players, tray Hendrix and DNP times two with his finger, but he was also DNP times two last week.
- 17:40[SPEAKER_00]: I don't really consider it a serious risk that he won't be able to play and he's been very good in all three games in terms of his past for his skills.
- 17:47[SPEAKER_00]: Any reason why are you pessimistic?
- 17:51[SPEAKER_01]: No, I think he was DMP the first two weeks ago, also.
- 17:55[SPEAKER_01]: No, there was trying to let it rest.
- 17:57[SPEAKER_01]: There is a lot of hand fighting that goes only even in a non-taxing practice.
- 18:02[SPEAKER_01]: So there's trying to let it rest.
- 18:03[SPEAKER_01]: He's been great.
- 18:04[SPEAKER_01]: A lot of pressures.
- 18:05[SPEAKER_01]: I saw some Raiders fan trying to take a victory lab saying, look, Elia's won't suck.
- 18:09[SPEAKER_01]: And this and that.
- 18:11[SPEAKER_01]: What do you not understand about the pressures and the hurries are the sticky stat there?
- 18:15[SPEAKER_01]: You know, it's, anyway.
- 18:17[SPEAKER_00]: They need, they really, really need his first pressures to get their, to get their, um, sacks going.
- 18:25[SPEAKER_00]: And the other thing, they need is, they need an interior presence.
- 18:27[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that's where they've really missed Travis Jones.
- 18:29[SPEAKER_00]: So far, being on the inside in their past rush sets.
- 18:34[SPEAKER_00]: And my guess is, this week, we're going to see Travis Jones and Matt Ipeke playing together and playing on some of the passing down.
- 18:41[SPEAKER_00]: So that'll be fun.
- 18:42[SPEAKER_01]: And since we're on top of the injury report, how remarkable for me to be able to lead the defensive line, I heard on another one of your shows, you said, zero to 60.
- 18:49[SPEAKER_01]: If I goodness, what is zero to 60 that was?
- 18:52[SPEAKER_01]: The slowest ramp up imaginable, and then all of a sudden, you know, a ton of snatch in this first game, so, yep.
- 18:57[SPEAKER_00]: like it's all these, all these, you know, the 11 man pit crew or whatever it is are pushing the Ferrari to try to get it going.
- 19:04[SPEAKER_00]: And then all of a sudden, boom, it's an excellent project.
- 19:09[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, anyway, with Matt at BK, you know, answers a huge question about where he was and what this really means to the team.
- 19:18[SPEAKER_00]: But, you know, we had the three questions.
- 19:20[SPEAKER_00]: Is he going to play at all?
- 19:22[SPEAKER_00]: We're good on that.
- 19:23[SPEAKER_00]: Is he going to play as much?
- 19:26[SPEAKER_00]: You didn't play 47 Saps at his first game back, and I think also the is he going to play as well.
- 19:31[SPEAKER_00]: He certainly, he had plays in this game.
- 19:33[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think he played as well as PFF.
- 19:35[SPEAKER_00]: Grades would indicate because I don't really give him credit for that fumble, and also the rough the pass was a very serious flag just been a problem for him.
- 19:45[SPEAKER_00]: But I do think it was, you know, there's probably enough of a signal in there that he's going to return to some level of effectiveness this year, so I'm
- 19:56[SPEAKER_01]: After a year off, that's a pretty good debut, you know, there's only he should be able to build upon that.
- 20:01[SPEAKER_01]: I would say after I think it was a full year right full year without almost exactly played in the second week.
- 20:07[SPEAKER_00]: I believe last year was his last stabs.
- 20:12[SPEAKER_00]: All right, so Campbell's been D&P the first game first day and then full rest.
- 20:18[SPEAKER_00]: I don't have any fear about that being anything meaningful.
- 20:21[SPEAKER_00]: Flowers was limited and then very importantly, full today with the hamstring.
- 20:25[SPEAKER_00]: So that's a major upgrade given the way he was limited limit.
- 20:30[SPEAKER_00]: Sorry, D&P D&P limited last week, and he's limited full something this week.
- 20:35[SPEAKER_00]: You pretty confident he'll play.
- 20:37[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, he finished the game.
- 20:39[SPEAKER_01]: I was not necessarily expecting into play.
- 20:41[SPEAKER_01]: I think on the show last week we were saying that maybe a lot of rest They made it.
- 20:45[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, they he's really the the the the magnet of the office the answer to the offense right now So it was great to see him get through the game and You know, it was a limited right, but but Mentor said I want to try to sell the ramp from up and he didn't play a ton of snaps
- 21:02[SPEAKER_01]: It's production, all the snaps you played there as remarkable as you in vacuum out the idea.
- 21:07[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 21:08[SPEAKER_00]: Still only run 25 routes, the whole year, which is incredible.
- 21:12[SPEAKER_00]: John Simpson, this was good news and it was new news, limited than full with a growing.
- 21:17[SPEAKER_00]: John Simpson does not look like a healthy man going out there and for all of the things about John Simpson in terms of penalties and other limitations to the player, the man is a warrior and he's out there really Friday's artist and the Ravens need him in multiple reasons this coming week.
- 21:36[SPEAKER_00]: The, you know, one of the things we're seeing on the offensive line is it appears he's making the line calls going right for your one A.
- 21:43[SPEAKER_00]: So he's like, you know, the snap cadence of that kind of thing.
- 21:46[SPEAKER_00]: He's, he's do the pat on the butt move.
- 21:49[SPEAKER_00]: That's a big increase in responsibility.
- 21:51[SPEAKER_00]: And I wonder if that maybe could help Simpson focus on on reducing some penalties, maybe it just goes the other way, but you know,
- 22:00[SPEAKER_01]: Who knows, he would think that if he's the one that's, I mean, could it go the other way?
- 22:06[SPEAKER_01]: We remember all those years, Marshall Yandell was kind of the one that would put the left arm out, okay, it's time, or that sort of thing, and so yeah, he would think it would prove it, but who knows?
- 22:17[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, very good to see Simpson playing hard and obviously he had some difficulties in this last game, but that's for another show.
- 22:25[SPEAKER_00]: Lamar Jackson limited with a back injury, and I didn't look like he took kind of another one of these prototypical kind of near shoulder in the back on one of his run plays.
- 22:35[SPEAKER_00]: So I guess that might be what that was from, but he was full again today.
- 22:40[SPEAKER_00]: It was reported that he hadn't practiced yesterday,
- 22:45[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, he's back full any any fear at all that he won't play
- 22:50[SPEAKER_01]: No, I think he's going to play the more place who injury and this doesn't seem like a major one.
- 22:55[SPEAKER_01]: It's unfortunately has any injury at all, but let's hope that doesn't, you know, hinder him at any further.
- 23:02[SPEAKER_00]: It's not a lower body injury, so at least there's that in terms of how effective he's been with his legs.
- 23:07[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that's really a key for Lamar is they need to re-incorporate him and the deception that he brings the table into their offense right now.
- 23:15[SPEAKER_00]: They don't have enough deception and it's making their fourth down.
- 23:18[SPEAKER_00]: play calling particularly at all short yardage playing much weaker than in other wise movies.
- 23:24[SPEAKER_01]: Henry's just hasn't traditionally been a great short notice back is it was kind of seems the opposite of what you would think, but it's just kind of true.
- 23:33[SPEAKER_01]: And how do you think is playing banged up?
- 23:34[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm actually surprised he didn't get a veteran day like Campbell has gotten one of these weeks because he seems a little bit banged up.
- 23:40[SPEAKER_01]: I think he was a little banged up in the same scheme and that's why he was kind of didn't get a big workload.
- 23:44[SPEAKER_01]: And Hill Hill looked pretty explosive this last game.
- 23:47[SPEAKER_01]: Hill Hill had maybe more explosive runs than Henry.
- 23:50[SPEAKER_01]: They kind of had one or two
- 23:53[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so Henry ran, he had 29 otherwise he had a very tough day because he was 11 of 26 and successes after being 14 of 16 against the Saints.
- 24:01[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, it was a tough day for him and you're right, I mean, that makes it would make sense for him to have a maybe a limited or a Campbell DNP rest day.
- 24:12[SPEAKER_00]: I hope those are coming at some point for Henry, but I guess he's got one more year involved or more as it stands right now, and he's a lifting fanatic, so he's always doing that anyway.
- 24:26[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not sure, I'm not sure what else you could do for somebody like that at that point.
- 24:30[SPEAKER_00]: You know, if they want to be on the field, you know, you let it happen.
- 24:33[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, I could have break the bank with the top five on a back contract, but for
- 24:39[SPEAKER_01]: A veteran contract towards a television career, as far as I can turn up, I'll have to pay that to them.
- 24:44[SPEAKER_00]: Are you, let's talk that.
- 24:49[SPEAKER_00]: If you wanted an extension now, what would be your two year number on Derek Henry to be extended for the 28 and 29 seasons?
- 24:58[SPEAKER_00]: Because he's side through 27.
- 25:01[SPEAKER_00]: about 16 total.
- 25:03[SPEAKER_00]: I was going to say 20.
- 25:05[SPEAKER_00]: That was my high end.
- 25:09[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 25:10[SPEAKER_00]: You're going to negotiate me up to that point.
- 25:11[SPEAKER_00]: Or to negotiate me down to that point.
- 25:14[SPEAKER_00]: The 20 and 29 seasons are two years removed.
- 25:16[SPEAKER_00]: So actually getting this on here, it's worth a little bit less than that.
- 25:19[SPEAKER_00]: So all the people who want to defer cap, then you got to be okay signing a guy in the future for a few less dollars, too.
- 25:26[SPEAKER_00]: idea.
- 25:26[SPEAKER_00]: But there's definitely risk associated with what's going on.
- 25:29[SPEAKER_00]: I just think right now, Dear Canary is certainly a phenomenon, and you know, you and I both were not excited about this this move when they originally made it.
- 25:41[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, just lukewarm to the entire thing, particularly the money and so on.
- 25:46[SPEAKER_00]: And I have now, I think I bought into the notion that, you know, you're getting Nolan Ryan and you're just going to ride this train as long as it'll go.
- 25:55[SPEAKER_01]: So my whole kind of positional value stick kind of pivoted once they began optimizing wood years.
- 26:07[SPEAKER_01]: Because when it was a finite pie and they wouldn't dip in the future years, I said, there's no way.
- 26:12[SPEAKER_01]: You can't spend money on a run-of-back.
- 26:14[SPEAKER_01]: You can't sell money on a linebacker.
- 26:15[SPEAKER_01]: But if you are opening it up to wood years, I can see how.
- 26:20[SPEAKER_01]: you know, some of these players and we're of course having a good year so far too, so I like that as well.
- 26:24[SPEAKER_01]: I'm much more forgiving to that sort of expenditure.
- 26:29[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, so I will just say this because you've opened up the possibility of a whole lot of comments.
- 26:33[SPEAKER_00]: I don't want to answer on Twitter.
- 26:35[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm going to do it right here.
- 26:36[SPEAKER_00]: If you've got this question based on what Vost just said, the pie remains finite.
- 26:40[SPEAKER_00]: It's just finite over an extended period of time.
- 26:42[SPEAKER_00]: So you can look at your cap as I've got, say,
- 26:46[SPEAKER_00]: One point five billion to spend over the next five years and probably a little bit more than that.
- 26:52[SPEAKER_00]: And so if you spend an extra 10 million that you end up losing, you're not as concerned about it under those circumstances.
- 26:57[SPEAKER_00]: But I do think it's the wrong way to look at it to ever say the the the pie is infinite or that you you so have access to an infinite amount of money.
- 27:07[SPEAKER_01]: I think the place we differ is that I'm willing to accept rebuild here once in a while.
- 27:13[SPEAKER_01]: So that's what we, so in that under that umbrella or that philosophy, I'm okay with it.
- 27:20[SPEAKER_01]: Ideally, they would spend on only premium positions and be cap conservative perpetuity and hit it in one of several months, every five years.
- 27:27[SPEAKER_01]: That would be the way I would do it, but given the circumstances, I'm okay with it.
- 27:32[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you lose the march accent and you immediately in your quarterback year, you have to exchange.
- 27:38[SPEAKER_00]: Then I can accept a rebuild year and it makes a lot of fiscal sense to maybe do that.
- 27:43[SPEAKER_00]: And hopefully that's your only down cap year.
- 27:45[SPEAKER_00]: And hopefully, you know, you have one of those every 15 years because you draft the right quarterback every time.
- 27:51[SPEAKER_00]: And they, I don't ever want to rebuild with Lamar Jackson.
- 27:55[SPEAKER_00]: I don't want ever want that to happen.
- 27:56[SPEAKER_00]: That's great.
- 27:57[SPEAKER_00]: You know, people talk about wasting Lamar Jackson's career.
- 27:59[SPEAKER_00]: You know, at least understand your,
- 28:02[SPEAKER_00]: absurd, extreme, not you, personally, us, the extreme, absurd, cap expectations of the fan base.
- 28:09[SPEAKER_00]: And we need to get Lamar wide receivers because we're wasting his career.
- 28:13[SPEAKER_00]: Wait, waste his career is to bag yourself a whole bunch of those bad contracts.
- 28:17[SPEAKER_00]: And then force Lamar into a rebuilding year, which is, it would not be fun.
- 28:21[SPEAKER_00]: And Lamar might not want to do it.
- 28:24[SPEAKER_00]: He'll want to play for a winner, I think, no matter what.
- 28:28[SPEAKER_01]: That's kind of where I thought Zayla was going to come here because Green Bay is going through, right?
- 28:31[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, I guess the hometown team went out, but we have some teams apparently the Rams had been
- 28:39[SPEAKER_01]: cash over cap like bottom five until this year after going hyper aggressive and now they have cash to spend and they get gared and whatever and and New Orleans kind of, you know, they they didn't really bottom out and now they're back on the upswing.
- 28:52[SPEAKER_01]: So I think there is could do that one of the time comes when one of the more get it towards Twilight.
- 28:56[SPEAKER_00]: New Orleans has the benefit of playing in the AFC South.
- 28:59[SPEAKER_01]: So I don't know if the NFC, NFC, sorry.
- 29:01[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
- 29:02[SPEAKER_00]: All right, let's go through the main of these injuries here.
- 29:03[SPEAKER_00]: Smite limited than full with a heal.
- 29:06[SPEAKER_00]: I don't have a strong feeling whether or not he'll play but the Ravens do need him because they don't really have another guy who is a good blocker or in a good in line blocker.
- 29:14[SPEAKER_00]: I guess it would be quite as if that was a situation.
- 29:17[SPEAKER_00]: Humphrey limited then full with a hamstring I would expect him to be back this week too and again another player They really need and they almost they're a few of these guys They have to play regardless just even if they're just walking wounded and and sitting on the sideline writing a stationary bike or whatever They might be doing because the ravens you know are you have to have 49 players including their guinea three that are active
- 29:41[SPEAKER_01]: On the top of the smite, I think he's underwhelmed with my expectations at least that I wish they had maybe look a Scott, but they don't.
- 29:48[SPEAKER_01]: So that is what it is.
- 29:49[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and that's an interesting thing.
- 29:51[SPEAKER_00]: Lucas Scott is out there somewhere I assume not on somebody's practice or no better than on somebody's practice while I let's put it that way.
- 29:57[SPEAKER_00]: He probably could be somebody the Ravens could bring back if they if they had any further injury concerns for smite or or at the position in general.
- 30:06[SPEAKER_00]: I think that would be a really good choice.
- 30:09[SPEAKER_00]: Humphrey we already talked about him more limited twice with the ankle now That's get a second limited as bad and there are two guys who were limited limited They're more and Stanley with ankle and toe now in more his case I think it's just a question of whether it's him or Sirat that's active and honestly I'm not that's strong on on it either direction But more did have a nice touchdown catch in this game to keep that kind of a redemption game
- 30:33[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I want to see more targets to Tesla Walker.
- 30:37[SPEAKER_01]: That's kind of what my mind is.
- 30:39[SPEAKER_01]: Good things happen when you throw a Tesla ball, it seems, whether it's a DPI, whether it's a contested catch, and his touchdown rate is remarkable.
- 30:47[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe one of the best of all time.
- 30:49[SPEAKER_01]: Stanley is the interesting one.
- 30:52[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously, I didn't want to play him on that turf that stitched together turf in Brazil.
- 30:56[SPEAKER_01]: Do you want to give him another game?
- 31:01[SPEAKER_01]: Now he's got a little less wear and tear and he couldn't want to have him help me for the remainder of the season.
- 31:07[SPEAKER_01]: I thought Vincent played ad really well.
- 31:09[SPEAKER_01]: I haven't seen your grades by the way, Ken, is that something that got lost and shuffled with the dress?
- 31:13[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so when we have a travel day like that, I'll just explain that to folks here.
- 31:16[SPEAKER_00]: We have to sacrifice both articles.
- 31:19[SPEAKER_00]: It's just not in a time in the week.
- 31:21[SPEAKER_00]: And so we do have that information and it'll probably be published next time, but I'll just tell you right now, Vincent had a B game.
- 31:27[SPEAKER_00]: And it was a you know a plusking it gave up one and a half pressures you missed I think seven blocks on the game But it was it was extremely good.
- 31:36[SPEAKER_00]: You did have a quarterback hitting a loud that was wiped out by the flowers DPI at the goal line so that was one where you know unfortunately he gave up some pressure there But the you know good game and and one that gives us a lot of hope I think for what Vincent could be I think it could
- 31:53[SPEAKER_00]: drive the decision whether or not against a set of fairly mediocre past pressures, whether you decide that against Tennessee, you, you sit in another week.
- 32:02[SPEAKER_01]: I, given, I mean, that, that, you know, my I test set pretty a game, you're, you're creating, verifies that I would give, sailing another game of considering that.
- 32:12[SPEAKER_01]: Let's, let's see what it has, you know, let's see what he has.
- 32:15[SPEAKER_00]: So would you, and this is something we'll go to and we'll get back to this by the way, in the second part of this show is talking about how you first of all reshape the offensive line, but also, all right, we'll talk about that in this part of the show, get right to it.
- 32:29[SPEAKER_00]: So let's talk about how they reshape this offensive line.
- 32:31[SPEAKER_00]: So we talked about Gwen and Posek and basically they're, they now are ghosts at this point, they won't be around.
- 32:38[SPEAKER_01]: And unfortunately,
- 32:40[SPEAKER_01]: Cory Bullock, a player who you and I both had a head of Andrew Voorhees when we did our 53 projection is what Carolina and I think he actually played some snap for Carolina because they suffered some injuries.
- 32:52[SPEAKER_01]: He would have been the ideal man, you know, you want to be deep.
- 32:55[SPEAKER_01]: You made the point that you don't have another guy that had a center experience and I was I thought that might have been a little bit overly cautious or prophylactic but
- 33:06[SPEAKER_01]: came to pass.
- 33:06[SPEAKER_01]: So it looks like Vega is going to be the guy who's playing center and it's not ideal, you know, you draft a first round guard, you wanted to stick it as one spot and become a start in a pro baller, but maybe you can play all three into your spots and that's how he's really a stud.
- 33:23[SPEAKER_00]: I think, here's the funny thing, I think it could be ideal.
- 33:26[SPEAKER_00]: I think that, you know, you basically, first of all, then get it now, whatever first round draft capital you put, put it's sunk cost and if we agree that you can play either guard or center, then he really should have the value of a guard, maybe even a little bit higher, because of the versatility, this certainly should have the value of a guard in terms of how you're willing to pay him after four years or after three years we would hope, right?
- 33:47[SPEAKER_00]: It gets extended early.
- 33:49[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm not too concerned about a loss of positional value is what I'm saying there.
- 33:54[SPEAKER_00]: And this division has all behemoths on the interior.
- 33:58[SPEAKER_00]: This game is the ideal chance to figure out it gets Jeffrey Simmons going to yield up you know under under that circumstance.
- 34:05[SPEAKER_00]: And, you know, it's a, it could be a match made in heaven to have another big physical interior lineman.
- 34:12[SPEAKER_00]: You need a simpson who has some of that and certainly, you know, is a warrior at left guard.
- 34:18[SPEAKER_00]: And then we get a right guard at it.
- 34:19[SPEAKER_00]: It would have been great if it had been like that.
- 34:21[SPEAKER_00]: But maybe it could be another guy who has some, you know, real power, he brings to the position, whether that's this year via some signing or, or, or,
- 34:29[SPEAKER_00]: that they get during the off season because of a chance to draft a guard or a center next you're just in a little more, you know, positional flexibility there as well.
- 34:37[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, looking long-term tackles in pretty good shape.
- 34:39[SPEAKER_01]: I think Rosenberg was very well to start the season and with Vincent having his best games as a professional last week and Ronnie, you know, being Ronnie,
- 34:49[SPEAKER_01]: Um, so if, and I'm probably operating under the assumption that both postsick and go in or down for the year, um, I'd rather, I'd rather be pleasantly surprised than, uh, get my hopes up.
- 35:00[SPEAKER_01]: So if they go to the center and direct, this is quite a test because Simmons is maybe one of the only details better than Travis Jones, you know, no stackels.
- 35:11[SPEAKER_01]: Who's your right guard?
- 35:12[SPEAKER_01]: And for he's, I think, kind of nice block on the goal line.
- 35:17[SPEAKER_01]: Um, I've been underwhelmed for his play the last, you know, last year, plus the preseason.
- 35:25[SPEAKER_01]: Let's not forget our mid-Jones, third round pick.
- 35:27[SPEAKER_01]: He was a 20 year old draft or 21 year old.
- 35:30[SPEAKER_01]: Um, definitely go out and get a veteran, but we see a rotation between the two in-house guys.
- 35:37[SPEAKER_00]: Well, first of all, I'd be fine with that.
- 35:39[SPEAKER_00]: But second of all, what does it tell you that Emory Jones isn't the guy who came in at right guard?
- 35:43[SPEAKER_00]: When all the time, Vory has spent all his time at left guard.
- 35:46[SPEAKER_00]: And we've been talking the whole time like Emory Jones, first of all, is a more of a natural size and shape fit to play the right guard because you'll little longer and more able to turn that defensive tackle.
- 35:57[SPEAKER_00]: I would think open the front gate.
- 35:59[SPEAKER_00]: And now all of a sudden, Vory's is the guy over Jones at right guard.
- 36:03[SPEAKER_00]: That does not speak volumes to what's led to.
- 36:07[SPEAKER_01]: exactly two different coaching staffs and two different offensive line coaches thought that, which is a knock on Jones, you know, you know, I'm still, I'm going to sell all my stock and Jones just because you're a rompick.
- 36:20[SPEAKER_01]: That is because you don't grow guys still.
- 36:22[SPEAKER_01]: I hope they can get something out of him.
- 36:24[SPEAKER_01]: If they bring a veteran and it's just a stock gap, I mean,
- 36:28[SPEAKER_01]: But Ravens, a lot of teams do that.
- 36:30[SPEAKER_01]: You bring in a guy who's not the best, but he can be slightly below average.
- 36:35[SPEAKER_01]: He could be a deep player and you have one week's proud of your online.
- 36:38[SPEAKER_01]: And you can still make a deep run.
- 36:41[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 36:42[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 36:42[SPEAKER_00]: Well, certainly a possibility.
- 36:44[SPEAKER_00]: Now, the Stanley and Simpson injuries within this context are interesting.
- 36:49[SPEAKER_00]: Now, Simpson is full and I believe he'll be back as we talked about early, but Stanley, you know, there's a real question and they might sit him out if they do then they've got, you know, players like Lichtenhand, they could bring up again, they could.
- 37:03[SPEAKER_00]: go with either of their other practice squad offensive tackles.
- 37:07[SPEAKER_00]: One of them I was reminded by a fan actually, it played with some guard.
- 37:10[SPEAKER_00]: That'll be in the questions, but we certainly want to talk about that.
- 37:14[SPEAKER_00]: And they signed two guys from their tryouts yesterday.
- 37:17[SPEAKER_00]: Interestingly enough, they didn't go for Graham Glasgow, but they did sign Audrey James, who is a 29-year-old senator.
- 37:24[SPEAKER_00]: He played four years as a starter with Las Vegas.
- 37:27[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't really see played that much, but he's got a lot of NFL experience.
- 37:31[SPEAKER_00]: And he was actually a pretty damn decent pass blocker by PFF standards over that period.
- 37:36[SPEAKER_00]: And he didn't have a lot of penalties either.
- 37:38[SPEAKER_00]: He had an OK number of penalties over his last three seasons as a starter, which is very positive for a center, that probably indicates a certain cerebral nature to not be an illegal downhill guy.
- 37:51[SPEAKER_00]: And coming off a week where Gwen has two of these sloppy ass penalties is really a big deal.
- 38:01[SPEAKER_01]: For my perspective in knowledge, she's been a solid player in this league and probably a better option than you would expect maybe only on the wave of wire at this point.
- 38:13[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's exactly what I, how I would frame it up is, you know, I'd expect what they get to be last.
- 38:17[SPEAKER_00]: Kyle Hergel has almost no NFL experience, he's in his third year, he's 27 in a few days and he has 325 career preseason snaps and 45 in the regular season.
- 38:29[SPEAKER_00]: So he sounds a lot like win in terms of his relative preseason, a regular season experience.
- 38:35[SPEAKER_00]: There's something they like about him.
- 38:36[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not sure exactly what it is, but, but
- 38:39[SPEAKER_00]: Somebody's got an experience with him, and I assume it's Doyle with Chicago last year, and maybe Doyle from talking to his friends in New Orleans about what might he might have done over the three years.
- 38:52[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I don't know anything about purple, but Doyle seems to he's talking about cleaning up the mistakes, and it's all everybody, and he definitely
- 39:09[SPEAKER_00]: or the Titans this week, and might have to be facing non-divative BK-1 or 1.
- 39:15[SPEAKER_00]: It'd be a good test to see what's going on with him.
- 39:19[SPEAKER_00]: Now, you know, I would say the Raven's hope would have been the delinger was not a guy that had to play at this point, probably, but,
- 39:28[SPEAKER_00]: You know, things happen.
- 39:30[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I'm not sure even a player like Berenson or somebody else, if they had them available, might be a guy that they wouldn't give a shot, a head of going to the waiver while I try to get a hergal, for example.
- 39:41[SPEAKER_01]: So, Berenson just popped in on my mind as you were talking about Dellinger and seemed like a wasted pick, but that's okay.
- 39:58[SPEAKER_01]: So, a lot of injuries on the offensive line pretty much throughout the league, this, you know, the first quarter of the season, a lot of teams are desperate.
- 40:06[SPEAKER_01]: You know, Griebe is decimated, so, you know, if they sign like three or four better into this event, that's, that's loud.
- 40:15[SPEAKER_00]: Never I've never seen anything like that before, and that's it.
- 40:17[SPEAKER_00]: It was it was crazy So there is the question of whether or not the Ravensine and other offensive tackle maybe on a 53 and if licked an hand as their guys They've used up one of his elevations, but I would assume they'll elevate him this week for the second and then they can make a decision over whether or not
- 40:34[SPEAKER_00]: The ravens need another guy and I don't think they really need another guy if Jones is the fourth and they have Vincent who they now Maybe have a little more trust in if Stan Lee certainly the with the possibility he'll come back and they've Rosengart news the the anchor of the two tackle spots They need to they don't have that they're not facing an appending doom there But that you're always one injury away from from doom at offensive tackle if you're in the kind of a depth of the ravens at currently
- 41:02[SPEAKER_01]: Well, you know, having Vincent, if you could be a capable backup swing, I mean, that's a luxury that a lot of teams don't have.
- 41:08[SPEAKER_01]: So let's hope that he continues on his upper trajectory.
- 41:12[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 41:13[SPEAKER_00]: And, you know, the last thing we'll talk about at this episode is the possibly the problems that have occurred at safety.
- 41:19[SPEAKER_00]: And, you
- 41:20[SPEAKER_00]: Does anything need to be done at this point?
- 41:22[SPEAKER_00]: There actually was a comment on it today that from Anthony Weaver, I think, was mildly veiled about players not meeting expectations.
- 41:32[SPEAKER_00]: And he said, one of the places that has to be addressed is not necessarily by me, but by the players on the field.
- 41:40[SPEAKER_00]: So maybe it's a mild thing that
- 41:42[SPEAKER_00]: Camelton needs to be saying something those other two safety's or Rokuan does or whoever is the appropriate guy because that's the place things are breaking down I don't really believe it's at corner back.
- 41:53[SPEAKER_00]: It's a very very tough
- 41:55[SPEAKER_00]: three matchups set versus Dallas and and I thought, you know, rivers is completely outsized by Floor Noi who's the smurf of that group.
- 42:02[SPEAKER_00]: He's still 6-1.
- 42:04[SPEAKER_00]: So he's he's big and then you have pickings on wagons, which is a tough thing that we can sit in outstanding job dealing with him in the game.
- 42:12[SPEAKER_00]: And then Humphrey had a tough game, but it really was one big play allowed to CD lamb.
- 42:18[SPEAKER_00]: I'm sorry to, yeah, to see me land on the X.
- 42:21[SPEAKER_00]: And the part of the reason that occurred is that the Ravens are allowed the cowboys to basically make the choice about how they wanted a match-up.
- 42:31[SPEAKER_01]: right yeah you would have rather had probably wiggins on lamb and well conference had a strolls with pickins over the years too yeah they're great they're me there they're two number ones there might be two of the top 15 best receivers in league it's a tough match up you know and they have prosecutors of veteran quarterback and is that a redeefence press card i thought it was interesting gave a shout out the mentor for calling the tag out at the right time
- 42:53[SPEAKER_01]: when they had him in their look.
- 42:55[SPEAKER_01]: And then he called timeout.
- 42:57[SPEAKER_01]: I really like Menter's style.
- 42:59[SPEAKER_01]: He's very direct.
- 43:00[SPEAKER_01]: And he can be, he can challenge the players in the media without coming off, I don't know the word, argumentative, I'm not sure quite the word, but the,
- 43:13[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, you know, standoffish, maybe?
- 43:15[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 43:17[SPEAKER_00]: It's the standoffishness that it doesn't have, like the standoffishness of horrible because he wasn't meddling in the defensive meetings directly.
- 43:24[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 43:25[SPEAKER_00]: It meant that it made it more difficult for him to give tough love certainly through the media to a player.
- 43:31[SPEAKER_00]: And he didn't really do it.
- 43:32[SPEAKER_00]: But mentor is close enough to these guys that I think he can occasion it pull it out.
- 43:35[SPEAKER_00]: You know, we've had these discussions and the certain players who need to improve their play is something that I don't think
- 43:43[SPEAKER_01]: So the Hamilton's, go on, I'm sorry.
- 43:46[SPEAKER_00]: Like, if it had hard, I said it, I think we would have described that to the grade three communication where you get the grade two coach speak all the time, you get a little relation when he really loves the guy and you get the saltiness when he's ready to get quite the blues.
- 44:00[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and they're still honeymoon, you know, yeah, Menter has been in her 18 years.
- 44:04[SPEAKER_01]: Hamilton's comment says her the game was almost like they lost.
- 44:06[SPEAKER_01]: He's just that this is not up to the standard of defense
- 44:12[SPEAKER_01]: And he is a leader, we've seen him do post-game stuff and that sort of thing, one of the direct topic of the safety is, I think they get a couple of movies.
- 44:22[SPEAKER_01]: I thought the tackling was a little bit better.
- 44:24[SPEAKER_01]: I saw clips from practice today where they were really emphasizing tackling.
- 44:28[SPEAKER_01]: We had to remember that the beginning of the season is always a little bit of an adjustment because they're not tackling a camp.
- 44:34[SPEAKER_01]: None of these guys played on preseason, but now's the time they got to get under control.
- 44:39[SPEAKER_01]: Um, starts.
- 44:41[SPEAKER_01]: He got to give him some more runaway.
- 44:42[SPEAKER_01]: He's going to first off pick on him.
- 44:44[SPEAKER_01]: Hawkins will see if he doesn't really improve a couple weeks.
- 44:50[SPEAKER_01]: I think, uh, I don't know probably making a change going to Jackson or or going to Wallace Wallace.
- 44:56[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 44:57[SPEAKER_01]: So we'll see.
- 44:58[SPEAKER_01]: But this I am.
- 45:01[SPEAKER_01]: disappointed by how the defense has become the season.
- 45:04[SPEAKER_01]: They have a lot of money invested at all three levels.
- 45:08[SPEAKER_01]: And they have a lot of draft picks on top of that high-round first-round picks.
- 45:11[SPEAKER_01]: They did the third-most expensive defense in league this year.
- 45:15[SPEAKER_01]: And that's not including first-round picks that are still in the rookie deal, second-round picks too.
- 45:18[SPEAKER_01]: They have quite a few plus a defensive wizard had coach.
- 45:23[SPEAKER_01]: I do expect them to put it up and start creating more turnovers, but we need to start seeing it pretty soon
- 45:31[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, all right, very, very well said.
- 45:33[SPEAKER_00]: I don't, I really have much to add to that.
- 45:35[SPEAKER_00]: I want to see them, I think they need to be open to that.
- 45:39[SPEAKER_00]: They waited way too long on Marcus Williams and E. Jackson.
- 45:42[SPEAKER_00]: And at some point, you have to make changes.
- 45:45[SPEAKER_00]: And man, do I really hope this is not a evolve move of Hamilton?
- 45:49[SPEAKER_00]: They seem to have the players that it shouldn't.
- 45:52[SPEAKER_00]: But that's my big thing about making a change here.
- 45:57[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 45:57[SPEAKER_01]: No, I agree.
- 45:58[SPEAKER_01]: You are not a book on the same page.
- 45:59[SPEAKER_01]: How much in close your line is optimizing his impact?
- 46:03[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 46:03[SPEAKER_00]: We'll come back in the second part of the show, by the way, listen for that episode.
- 46:07[SPEAKER_00]: And we'll talk about the projected inactive for week three, as well as a very deep nail bag.
- 46:11[SPEAKER_00]: Vass always appreciate doing this show with you.
- 46:13[SPEAKER_00]: Tell folks where they can find your work or talk football with you online.
- 46:17[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so I don't write any more, but I do podcast with you.
- 46:21[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm on Twitter X at Basile Slerico's VAS, ILIS, LER, IKOS, always a talk and Ravens ball.
- 46:29[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, you'll have a big mail bag in the second part of the show.
- 46:32[SPEAKER_00]: Filmstudy mailbag at gmail.com is where you'd like the questions sent, and they will be directed appropriately.
- 46:37[SPEAKER_00]: More income comes in here with a big stack of papers, and she asks me what you want this, what do you want this?
- 46:41[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so it's a slave driver behind this, making sure these questions get to the right spot, I'll say.
- 46:49[SPEAKER_01]: Well, you appreciate you, Marie, we appreciate you.
- 46:51[SPEAKER_00]: We do appreciate more intrametously, and for Vassarikos, this is Kevin Kusik.
- 46:57[SPEAKER_00]: It's taken by, we'll talk to you next time, one Friday morning GM.
- 47:00[SPEAKER_01]: You
