- 0:05Speaker 1: and Karen.
- 0:07Speaker 2: Hey, welcome to another episode of the Black Hotels podcast.
- 0:10Speaker 2: I'm your host, Rod Geordia is always by my cost,
- 0:14Speaker 2: and we're live on a Tuesday, the last Tuesday of
- 0:21Speaker 2: twenty twenty five.
- 0:23Speaker 3: And you can see from Karen's festive gear.
- 0:27Speaker 4: I should have never.
- 0:28Speaker 5: Stopped this motherfucking trend, because Lord knows, I love these
- 0:32Speaker 5: motherfucking things that glitter and blink and shit.
- 0:37Speaker 2: But we're in a festive mood as we are, and
- 0:40Speaker 2: like all festivities, it's better with guests. And we have
- 0:43Speaker 2: a guest today, first time guest that we that he's
- 0:46Speaker 2: had ever been on our show. We were just on
- 0:48Speaker 2: his show last week. You can check it out on YouTube.
- 0:52Speaker 2: I'll posted the feed. I shared it on our social media's.
- 0:56Speaker 2: But he is a stand up comedian, professional speaker, radio
- 1:00Speaker 2: show host and now host of the stand Up with
- 1:05Speaker 2: Pete Dominic podcast. Pete motherfucking Dominique.
- 1:08Speaker 3: What's up man?
- 1:10Speaker 1: Yeah, riding Karen, great to be here. I think I
- 1:13Speaker 1: should have been warned about my pacemaker. I'm not sure
- 1:16Speaker 1: that that strobe light is helping at all other viewers.
- 1:20Speaker 6: Probably there you go, I'm just kidding. I'm just kidding.
- 1:29Speaker 2: I like we're doing everything but getting drunk, like seeing
- 1:32Speaker 2: in right, Pete Man, First of all, we're going to
- 1:36Speaker 2: be hanging out with you in April, yes, for a
- 1:39Speaker 2: thing called pod Jam three. Uh what is pod Jam three?
- 1:43Speaker 2: Can you tell our audience?
- 1:45Speaker 3: Uh?
- 1:45Speaker 2: From firsthand experience, because we've just been telling them what
- 1:48Speaker 2: we think it's gonna be.
- 1:49Speaker 1: But you know, yes, it's a show and an experience.
- 1:54Speaker 1: So it's like two to three day event, depending on
- 1:56Speaker 1: how long people want to come. If you want to
- 1:59Speaker 1: come and just see the podcast taping, you can do that.
- 2:02Speaker 6: But there are just parties we hang out.
- 2:06Speaker 1: There's my friend has an awesome house with an amazing
- 2:10Speaker 1: pool and a DJ, and we go and we eat
- 2:13Speaker 1: and we drank and we dance and it's just people
- 2:16Speaker 1: hanging out. My goal since Covid, since I left Serious XM,
- 2:21Speaker 1: my corporate media career kind of like aenning and starting
- 2:24Speaker 1: this own independent thing, was not actually to create community,
- 2:28Speaker 1: but it accidentally became that as a result of COVID.
- 2:31Speaker 1: Because I started having these zoom hangouts during lockdown.
- 2:35Speaker 6: More and more people would come.
- 2:36Speaker 1: We created this kind of online community and We're like,
- 2:39Speaker 1: is it's gonna be weird if we get the better
- 2:40Speaker 1: together in person?
- 2:41Speaker 6: Right?
- 2:42Speaker 1: But we were like, we put our social anxiety and
- 2:45Speaker 1: our introversion away if we had that and people met
- 2:49Speaker 1: up in the first time was two years ago and
- 2:53Speaker 1: it was amazing, And the second time was last year
- 2:56Speaker 1: it was even better in many ways. And this year
- 2:59Speaker 1: inviting you guys, trying to connect our community to your community.
- 3:03Speaker 1: The goal being the thing that fights loneliness, which kills people.
- 3:08Speaker 1: Is every single philosophy, religious or moral or psychological says
- 3:13Speaker 1: that community matters. I'm reading Victor Frankel's uh Man Search
- 3:17Speaker 1: for Meaning right now. You know, Holocaust victims and community
- 3:21Speaker 1: in the concentration camps. So not to get too dark,
- 3:24Speaker 1: but you got to go as dark about it as
- 3:27Speaker 1: you can to talk about the importance and the light,
- 3:29Speaker 1: which is what we bring.
- 3:31Speaker 6: A lot of light like that on Karen's.
- 3:33Speaker 1: Head of people connecting meeting and you know, like, I
- 3:37Speaker 1: think it's fair to say that they're similar values. They're
- 3:40Speaker 1: generally they're progressive. I guess it's the easiest way.
- 3:44Speaker 6: Uh.
- 3:44Speaker 1: There's a lot of ethnic diversity, there's a lot of
- 3:48Speaker 1: age diversity, gender. We got a lot of members of
- 3:51Speaker 1: the LGBT community, and then we have like a lot
- 3:54Speaker 1: of male models like me.
- 3:56Speaker 2: Oh nice, listen, we all we could always use more
- 3:59Speaker 2: apacs and come gutters and all that good stuff to see.
- 4:03Speaker 5: I am here for when you talk about community, community
- 4:05Speaker 5: is very important, and I think for a lot of people,
- 4:09Speaker 5: COVID kind of killed community because people kind of went
- 4:13Speaker 5: inward and they never came back out, you know what
- 4:16Speaker 5: I'm saying, Like they never came out to society and
- 4:19Speaker 5: to reality and the things around them. So community is
- 4:23Speaker 5: great because it allows people to talk, It allows people
- 4:26Speaker 5: to open up, It allows them to realize that.
- 4:30Speaker 4: You actually are not alone. We guess what, we all are.
- 4:32Speaker 5: Struggling, We all going through something, We all are facing difficulties,
- 4:36Speaker 5: and so sometimes it's good to realize that you're not alone.
- 4:38Speaker 2: I also think community is what a lot of people
- 4:42Speaker 2: are gonna have to lean on to get through this
- 4:44Speaker 2: era of the Trump administration. Yes they are, because they
- 4:47Speaker 2: have so many of the levers of power right now
- 4:51Speaker 2: and they're passing laws and stuff that the only way
- 4:54Speaker 2: around those laws it is for us to help each
- 4:57Speaker 2: other to look past like a law or rule and
- 5:00Speaker 2: be like I just see you as a person, right,
- 5:03Speaker 2: how can I help you get something to eat today today?
- 5:07Speaker 3: Like like, rather than be like, well, don't worry.
- 5:09Speaker 2: In a couple of years, it'll be time to vote again.
- 5:12Speaker 2: Like that shit's not going to do it for a
- 5:13Speaker 2: lot of people.
- 5:15Speaker 1: It's Those are all really important points. And I can't
- 5:19Speaker 1: say enough about the importance of community and community building.
- 5:22Speaker 1: And I can't also say enough about how rewarding it
- 5:24Speaker 1: feels to be involved in connecting people with each other.
- 5:29Speaker 1: And I think that part of as you said, car
- 5:31Speaker 1: like COVID really killed community in a lot of ways.
- 5:35Speaker 1: The Internet, did you know, the kind of degradation of
- 5:40Speaker 1: religion and churches where people had community did And there's
- 5:44Speaker 1: a lot of different reasons for it. But as you said,
- 5:48Speaker 1: it's so important, it's so valuable to your life, to
- 5:52Speaker 1: your life force.
- 5:53Speaker 6: We all have a bag of rocks that we're.
- 5:55Speaker 1: Dragging, and more specifically, when it comes to politics and
- 5:58Speaker 1: the political and technolgical world we're living in, it's important
- 6:02Speaker 1: to be like connect with other people in other parts
- 6:04Speaker 1: of the country, in the world.
- 6:05Speaker 6: And be like, hey man, are you seeing this?
- 6:07Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 6:08Speaker 1: Absolutely, what I see looks cray cray.
- 6:15Speaker 6: But I can't even believe that it's today, and good did.
- 6:20Speaker 1: And here's the thing when you I call it Earth one,
- 6:24Speaker 1: we're connecting people who live on Earth one.
- 6:26Speaker 6: We don't agree on everything.
- 6:27Speaker 1: We have some pretty good arguments, some fun arguments about
- 6:30Speaker 1: stupid shit, and some important arguments about important stuff. But
- 6:34Speaker 1: we do agree on a certain set of ideas critical thinking,
- 6:39Speaker 1: open mindedness, expertise, trust, and we communicate in such a
- 6:44Speaker 1: I think, nuanced way that we're not We're not trying
- 6:47Speaker 1: to like blow each other up.
- 6:49Speaker 6: So we're over here on Earth one saying are you
- 6:51Speaker 6: seeing this?
- 6:51Speaker 1: Because it's important that we recognize with the rise of
- 6:54Speaker 1: AI and this political narrative and movement that is so
- 6:58Speaker 1: hard to to wake up and be in it every day,
- 7:01Speaker 1: but it's harder to eat to wake up and find
- 7:03Speaker 1: people that you know and love that are in it. Yes,
- 7:05Speaker 1: and so a lot of are you seeing this? Are
- 7:08Speaker 1: you okay?
- 7:08Speaker 6: Am? I?
- 7:09Speaker 1: You know, through COVID, through Trump, fascism, through the rise
- 7:13Speaker 1: of AI, all these other things that scare us connecting
- 7:16Speaker 1: with other people and being like, hey man, I'm a
- 7:19Speaker 1: fifty year old white guy, I live in the Burbs.
- 7:23Speaker 1: You're a forty three year old black woman, you live
- 7:26Speaker 1: in Houston, you're a older white woman who lives all.
- 7:31Speaker 6: Over the country. All types of people who all are
- 7:34Speaker 6: on Earth one. That's what we're going for.
- 7:37Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 7:37Speaker 5: And also something I realized too is when I talked
- 7:41Speaker 5: about it killing community, it also created community, but it
- 7:45Speaker 5: created a lot of toxic community for people.
- 7:48Speaker 4: So it's a lot of people that.
- 7:49Speaker 5: Were looking for community and couldn't found that positive community.
- 7:52Speaker 5: So they found a negative community because they wanted a community,
- 7:55Speaker 5: like like they wanted a.
- 7:56Speaker 2: Group of like what happened with QAnon, Yes, what happed
- 7:59Speaker 2: my dad could not have happened without the pandemic happening
- 8:02Speaker 2: at the same time.
- 8:02Speaker 4: Yes, And so you have a collective of people.
- 8:05Speaker 5: It's like, Hey, I want to be a part of
- 8:07Speaker 5: a community so bad that I will sacrifice my morales,
- 8:11Speaker 5: I will sacrifice my humanity, I will seck, I will
- 8:14Speaker 5: do things that I normally would not do to be
- 8:18Speaker 5: a part of this community versus taking it and making
- 8:21Speaker 5: like you said, make something more positive out of it.
- 8:23Speaker 5: Because you're gonna end up in a community whether you
- 8:25Speaker 5: want to be or not. I ain't not trying funny
- 8:27Speaker 5: you like you're gonna be in somebody's community. You're either
- 8:29Speaker 5: gonna be in the community somebody.
- 8:30Speaker 4: Created for you or one did you create it for yourself.
- 8:36Speaker 2: What was it like going from like stand up to
- 8:39Speaker 2: radio to your own podcast, because as you said, I
- 8:44Speaker 2: think community changes based on like being a stand up
- 8:48Speaker 2: comedian is almost like a lone wolf, right, you don't
- 8:51Speaker 2: you have followers and fans that you don't have to
- 8:53Speaker 2: create a community if you don't want to. You could
- 8:54Speaker 2: be like, man, I just get up here and kill
- 8:56Speaker 2: my joke, take my ass home. Radio is kind of
- 9:00Speaker 2: like a community because you your callers and stuff, but
- 9:03Speaker 2: you know they can be anywhere and all that stuff.
- 9:05Speaker 3: But sometimes you get regulars. But I feel like.
- 9:07Speaker 2: A podcast you start having a real community, Like these
- 9:12Speaker 2: are the people that are talking to you every week,
- 9:13Speaker 2: These are the people that are listening to you, These
- 9:15Speaker 2: are people that come out to events. So like it
- 9:18Speaker 2: hasn't been different for you at different stages.
- 9:20Speaker 1: I mean each stage that you mentioned just there is
- 9:23Speaker 1: a huge chapter of my life that I could, you know,
- 9:26Speaker 1: have fun talking about for a long time. But I
- 9:29Speaker 1: think the specifically to answer your question, I think live
- 9:31Speaker 1: radio builds community all the way back when I was
- 9:35Speaker 1: growing up when we were growing up, and I worked
- 9:38Speaker 1: at Here six M and so I worked with all
- 9:39Speaker 1: the Howard Stern show guys and Arti Lang was Howard
- 9:42Speaker 1: Stern's psychic and Arti Lang and I were really good friends,
- 9:45Speaker 1: and I was Arti Lang's opening act for years, and
- 9:49Speaker 1: during that time I was also hosting my own radio
- 9:52Speaker 1: show and then opening for Artie. And I watched the
- 9:56Speaker 1: listeners of Howard Stern come up to him, you know,
- 9:59Speaker 1: after show or just on the street, and the way
- 10:01Speaker 1: they talk to him guys was like they knew him
- 10:04Speaker 1: and that he was their friend. And then we learned
- 10:06Speaker 1: there's a word for that, a parasocial relationship, where you
- 10:09Speaker 1: think your friends with the show host in this case.
- 10:12Speaker 6: And I saw that and I was like, I want
- 10:16Speaker 6: something similar. I want to create something similar.
- 10:18Speaker 1: What I learned basically was if you're on the air
- 10:21Speaker 1: live the way I was and still am every day,
- 10:23Speaker 1: and you share stuff about your personal life, if you're
- 10:26Speaker 1: vulnerable on the air, you talk about your struggles, your suffering,
- 10:31Speaker 1: you make fun of yourself, it connects you with an
- 10:34Speaker 1: audience in a way that nothing else can. The opposite
- 10:36Speaker 1: of that is overwhelming bravado and genius and brilliance, which
- 10:41Speaker 1: is what had so many of the right wing radio
- 10:43Speaker 1: show hosts of my day did and still do.
- 10:45Speaker 6: The great one Brain is on loan from God. Now
- 10:51Speaker 6: my show is like Pize's an idiot, let's do.
- 10:55Speaker 1: My show was interviewing experts to say that and still
- 10:58Speaker 1: is the shortest way to explain it. But it created
- 11:01Speaker 1: the community live radio, old school you know, terrestrial radio,
- 11:07Speaker 1: satellite radio to a large too. And I think podcasts
- 11:10Speaker 1: are probably create that community even more niche, and I
- 11:14Speaker 1: think there's probably a safety element in it where you
- 11:17Speaker 1: actually start to get to know people.
- 11:18Speaker 6: You see them at virtual.
- 11:19Speaker 1: Hangouts, you meet them and events, and I think there
- 11:23Speaker 1: can be like I have a deep personal relationship with
- 11:26Speaker 1: lots and lots of people who've been listening to my
- 11:28Speaker 1: show from Serious XM to now I mean hundreds of friends.
- 11:31Speaker 1: I have a like just an embarrassment of riches of
- 11:35Speaker 1: people in my life.
- 11:35Speaker 6: And yet Roden Careen I get lonely.
- 11:37Speaker 3: Too, we all do.
- 11:41Speaker 2: I think also, like with podcasts, you opted for our
- 11:49Speaker 2: audio listeners, you got to go back to.
- 11:52Speaker 3: Minute mark.
- 11:54Speaker 2: But the I think also like podcasts is such an
- 11:58Speaker 2: opt in format and you have to find it too.
- 12:01Speaker 3: That's what I mean. You have to want to get it.
- 12:04Speaker 2: Like radio can be passive sometimes like not as much
- 12:07Speaker 2: so it's serious, like you gotta pay for that ship
- 12:09Speaker 2: and then you start finding your channels and then that
- 12:11Speaker 2: become like who you fuck with.
- 12:13Speaker 4: But like.
- 12:15Speaker 3: A lot of stuff is just.
- 12:16Speaker 2: Kind of like, oh, this is on TV, this on
- 12:18Speaker 2: A this is what I was listening to. I got
- 12:20Speaker 2: in the car. Podcast is like I want to find
- 12:23Speaker 2: your voice. So I feel like that's one of the
- 12:25Speaker 2: reasons that the community gets so tight for podcasts.
- 12:28Speaker 4: Will.
- 12:29Speaker 1: I mean, for sure, I think it's true, though still
- 12:32Speaker 1: of a political radio show, it's a specific plan of
- 12:35Speaker 1: politics where you have as similar values as that person
- 12:39Speaker 1: on the right and the left or whatever else, conspiracy whatever.
- 12:41Speaker 1: But you're absolutely right. I think we can talk about,
- 12:45Speaker 1: you know, the pros and cons of that. But for me,
- 12:47Speaker 1: it's just been who I never thought that, Mike. Because
- 12:52Speaker 1: I started as a stand up comic, I was living,
- 12:54Speaker 1: I lived my dreams. I did everything I wanted to
- 12:55Speaker 1: do in comedy, I really did, and I'm super proud
- 12:58Speaker 1: of everything I accomplished and my career in broadcasting, radio
- 13:01Speaker 1: and television, and most importantly I'm proud of my girls.
- 13:06Speaker 1: My wife and I and are separated, but we have
- 13:07Speaker 1: an awesome relationship. My girls are eighteen or twenty one.
- 13:09Speaker 1: That's what I'm most proud of. But like to build
- 13:12Speaker 1: a community and to have that be basically my job,
- 13:16Speaker 1: and to try to maintain and nurture that community.
- 13:19Speaker 6: It's really hard because I'm like the HR Department.
- 13:21Speaker 1: We don't have a lot of problems, but you know,
- 13:22Speaker 1: and I try not have to get overly invested in them,
- 13:25Speaker 1: and I try to see people connected. I try to
- 13:27Speaker 1: create a safe space, keep people connected to reality and
- 13:31Speaker 1: to our suffering as we help navigate it with.
- 13:33Speaker 6: Each other, especially if we get older. You know, we're
- 13:35Speaker 6: just getting older. Is the real deal too?
- 13:37Speaker 5: Yeah, how was it when you first got recognized? Because
- 13:42Speaker 5: you know, you're watching other people get recognized, but it's
- 13:45Speaker 5: completely different when it's you, because I know it was
- 13:47Speaker 5: very different when it was me. When I was kind
- 13:49Speaker 5: of out in public as somebody yelp my name and
- 13:51Speaker 5: I had to look at them and I had to
- 13:52Speaker 5: go down my mental road to day I was like.
- 13:54Speaker 4: Okay, I don't know you're here. I don't know here, here,
- 13:56Speaker 4: I don't know here. Then they say I know you're
- 13:57Speaker 4: from the show.
- 13:57Speaker 1: Was like, oh, okay, well, well let's just talk about
- 14:01Speaker 1: let's just talk about the racial component of that, which
- 14:03Speaker 1: is black people will overwhelmingly Black people have called black
- 14:07Speaker 1: people overwhelming because it's not like an Indian guy. Black
- 14:11Speaker 1: people in America will stop you and recognize you and
- 14:17Speaker 1: pay you really nice compliments, and you can almost see
- 14:20Speaker 1: it coming. It's often in an airport, white people will whisper,
- 14:25Speaker 1: not bother It wouldn't it wouldn't be bothersome for a
- 14:30Speaker 1: white person stop me in react same way a black
- 14:32Speaker 1: person doesn't. But my first like you know, I would
- 14:35Speaker 1: get from doing stand up to a certain extent after
- 14:38Speaker 1: shows and stuff like that. But that was like and A.
- 14:40Speaker 1: But once I started doing I started doing CNN every night.
- 14:43Speaker 1: I was on at eight pm every night, Live on,
- 14:47Speaker 1: and so during and and then after that year, I
- 14:49Speaker 1: was on TV a lot. But during that year and
- 14:51Speaker 1: after that year, for those those couple of years, I
- 14:53Speaker 1: was getting recognized like everywhere I went, and it.
- 14:58Speaker 6: Was mostly black folks who would say stuff.
- 15:00Speaker 1: And I love that, And I just want to talk
- 15:03Speaker 1: about why that is.
- 15:04Speaker 3: Why I love this too.
- 15:07Speaker 1: We're funny guys, think, but white people are more likely like, hey.
- 15:11Speaker 6: I think that's the good guy from seeing them James
- 15:15Speaker 6: Carvel or Daughtry Like it's either black people say hey.
- 15:21Speaker 3: Man, you're the guy.
- 15:24Speaker 6: I'm like yes, and then I have a new friend
- 15:27Speaker 6: at the airport.
- 15:28Speaker 3: What were you doing on CNN?
- 15:30Speaker 6: Every day eight I did a Man on the Street segment.
- 15:34Speaker 1: I got hired to do, like a like an Andy
- 15:36Speaker 1: Rooney commentary piece at the end, that's what they wanted
- 15:39Speaker 1: me to do. But I'm not a good writer, so
- 15:41Speaker 1: I could knew unless I had help, I couldn't write something.
- 15:44Speaker 6: Like that every night. That would be worse.
- 15:46Speaker 1: But I but I'm my other skill sets like hosting
- 15:49Speaker 1: and talking to people, you know, interviewing people.
- 15:50Speaker 6: So I go, how about I do a man on
- 15:52Speaker 6: the Street thing?
- 15:53Speaker 1: So literally every morning I went into the streets of
- 15:56Speaker 1: several cities in the country. CNN sent me all over
- 15:59Speaker 1: the place, and I put a microphone in people's face
- 16:01Speaker 1: like I was the original. Not the original. Sorry, there
- 16:03Speaker 1: was a lot of people did Man on the Street
- 16:05Speaker 1: before me, but I was one of the first people
- 16:07Speaker 1: to really do it the way I did it on
- 16:08Speaker 1: cable television. It was like twenty ten, but I did
- 16:11Speaker 1: it in a lighthearted way too. We cut it up,
- 16:13Speaker 1: we edited it, and then at the end of and
- 16:15Speaker 1: then at night they would air at the end of
- 16:17Speaker 1: the show to end the hour in kind of a
- 16:19Speaker 1: lighthearted note asking people on the streets.
- 16:20Speaker 6: Hear it, and it was called Pete on the Street.
- 16:22Speaker 6: Let's go to Pete on the Street.
- 16:23Speaker 1: And then John King, who was the host of the
- 16:26Speaker 1: show and hate laughing and comedy, he and I would
- 16:34Speaker 1: close it live. We would do would we would show
- 16:37Speaker 1: them show my Man on the Street piece, and then
- 16:39Speaker 1: he would go back to me, and then I would
- 16:40Speaker 1: give my daughter's a signal that they can go tonight
- 16:42Speaker 1: on live TV.
- 16:43Speaker 6: They can go to bed dead.
- 16:44Speaker 1: He loves you, go to bed and then I would
- 16:47Speaker 1: talk to John and then they would throw to the
- 16:50Speaker 1: eight pm hour.
- 16:51Speaker 4: Man.
- 16:51Speaker 2: That's always interesting too, in the mix of comedy and
- 16:54Speaker 2: serious stuff. Like I'm a guest on this podcast Marvel's
- 17:00Speaker 2: in Nomadic University.
- 17:01Speaker 3: I love it. It's all nerd stuff. I love talking
- 17:03Speaker 3: to Marvel.
- 17:03Speaker 2: But okay, so Howard Bryant is a guest on there
- 17:08Speaker 2: sometimes too. Howard Bryan is a very studious, serious like writer,
- 17:13Speaker 2: like he writes books about sports and race and he's
- 17:17Speaker 2: and when he's on there, the amount of effort I'm
- 17:22Speaker 2: putting into trying to get this motherfucker to laugh is insane.
- 17:26Speaker 3: It is insane. I take it as a challenge because
- 17:29Speaker 3: it is the mix.
- 17:30Speaker 2: I'm like, he wants to come in here and be like, listen,
- 17:32Speaker 2: the very serious function of Galactus is about racial disparity.
- 17:36Speaker 3: And I want to be like, oh, man, how big
- 17:38Speaker 3: you think his underwear are? Whatever?
- 17:40Speaker 2: Just to see if I can break this man. Did
- 17:43Speaker 2: you take that challenge when you were working there?
- 17:46Speaker 1: I to describe it because we would be live, you know,
- 17:48Speaker 1: when you're on the air with someone live like we
- 17:50Speaker 1: are now. Like, I think my style at least is
- 17:55Speaker 1: to throw the ball to you and hope that you
- 17:57Speaker 1: see it coming and hit it, like setting you up.
- 18:00Speaker 1: I'm off in the setup guy, And I also think
- 18:02Speaker 1: if you set me up, I better see it, catch it.
- 18:06Speaker 6: And do what I need to do with it. To
- 18:07Speaker 6: continue the sports metaphor.
- 18:09Speaker 1: I'm on Live TV with John King, who God loved him.
- 18:12Speaker 1: He was real good to me and he does have
- 18:13Speaker 1: a great sense of humor, but he too had that
- 18:15Speaker 1: issue where I don't think he ever really wanted to
- 18:18Speaker 1: do that segment.
- 18:18Speaker 6: He's a serious news man. I don't think he wanted
- 18:20Speaker 6: to report all the things he's reporting and throw this
- 18:22Speaker 6: dumb dumb be fair. But I would set him up.
- 18:26Speaker 6: I'd throw him the ball.
- 18:27Speaker 1: I'm out, you know, via satellite outside always freezing my
- 18:30Speaker 1: ass off, and he's in the studio in DC. I
- 18:32Speaker 1: was usually in New York, so I would throw him
- 18:34Speaker 1: the ball, guys, and it would just hit him in
- 18:35Speaker 1: the chest and bounce off.
- 18:38Speaker 3: Don't worry.
- 18:41Speaker 2: You being a correspondent on the street, What is up
- 18:46Speaker 2: with that one one to four second fucking delay?
- 18:49Speaker 3: How have we not solved that?
- 18:51Speaker 6: Oh? Have we not? Really?
- 18:52Speaker 1: I don't know what that, but I can tell you,
- 18:54Speaker 1: like being live on the street, the way that people
- 18:57Speaker 1: come up to you is it's it's a lot worse
- 19:00Speaker 1: for women, but it's it can be really weird and
- 19:04Speaker 1: it can make you feel uncomfortable, but it's mostly like
- 19:06Speaker 1: when you're live, you're terrified someone's gonna like jump into
- 19:10Speaker 1: your shot.
- 19:12Speaker 6: Got worse. But one time, you, guys, this is true story.
- 19:14Speaker 1: You could find the clip I was live on CNN
- 19:17Speaker 1: and Michael Richards, who played Kramer and Seinfeld, walks up
- 19:22Speaker 1: into my live shot like, and I go, Michael Richards
- 19:29Speaker 1: is here, and then John interviewed him, but I had
- 19:34Speaker 1: the earpiece so I had to like repeat the question.
- 19:36Speaker 6: But he was like, I don't want any problems or something,
- 19:39Speaker 6: I'll clip.
- 19:41Speaker 3: That's crazy.
- 19:42Speaker 6: A lot of things happened, but that was the craziest
- 19:45Speaker 6: one that ever happened.
- 19:45Speaker 2: It's always it's always funny to me with the news
- 19:48Speaker 2: because they're like, you know, we're gonna go to live
- 19:49Speaker 2: on the scene to so and so, and it's always
- 19:51Speaker 2: that like we're we're like everything else has been fixed,
- 19:58Speaker 2: and we have a we have fucking like flyovers. You
- 20:02Speaker 2: can send a drone and kill somebody in another country tonight,
- 20:05Speaker 2: but we cannot stop the one fucking second delay. We
- 20:09Speaker 2: can't edit that out in post or nothing. We just
- 20:12Speaker 2: got to deal with this delay for the rest of
- 20:13Speaker 2: our life.
- 20:14Speaker 3: Oh man, that's fucking crazy.
- 20:16Speaker 6: I don't know who's still got that delay. Who you're noticing?
- 20:18Speaker 6: You gotta. I mean, it happened, It does happen. But
- 20:20Speaker 6: I local news.
- 20:22Speaker 1: I was just on with Australian show earlier, celebrating New
- 20:25Speaker 1: Year's eat with them on an Australian news show, and
- 20:29Speaker 1: I was just I was like, I can't believe there's
- 20:31Speaker 1: no delay. We have such a strong connection, no delay
- 20:34Speaker 1: all the way to the bottom of the earth and back.
- 20:37Speaker 1: And I was also lying to their whole audience that
- 20:40Speaker 1: I was in Times Square. I was like, it was
- 20:41Speaker 1: just in my backyard.
- 20:44Speaker 3: Where are you located in the United States?
- 20:45Speaker 6: Now, it's called Rockland County, New York.
- 20:48Speaker 1: It's just north of New York City, on the border
- 20:51Speaker 1: of New Jersey and on the Hudson River, the beautiful
- 20:54Speaker 1: Hudson Valley, New York.
- 20:56Speaker 2: And also I saw that you used to open for
- 21:00Speaker 2: like The Daily Show and stuff too.
- 21:02Speaker 3: Is that is? What was that like? Was that was?
- 21:05Speaker 3: Is that like hard? Is it? Does it get repetitive likes?
- 21:08Speaker 3: How's that work?
- 21:10Speaker 6: Oh? Man?
- 21:10Speaker 1: Well, I was the audience warm up comedian for The
- 21:13Speaker 1: Daily Show with John Stewart and then I did that
- 21:17Speaker 1: for about a.
- 21:18Speaker 6: Year, and then Stephen Colbert's show spun off.
- 21:20Speaker 1: He was a correspondent and they spun off the Colbert
- 21:22Speaker 1: Rapport and I went with Steven and did that show
- 21:25Speaker 1: for six years and then I left for CNN. But
- 21:29Speaker 1: I did like eight years of radio audience warm up TV.
- 21:34Speaker 1: But I had to get there is the interesting part
- 21:36Speaker 1: to get the Daily Show and the Colbert. I also
- 21:38Speaker 1: worked on John Oliver's show for three years last Week
- 21:40Speaker 1: Tonight at HBO, So.
- 21:41Speaker 6: I worked on all those shows.
- 21:42Speaker 1: I've always been part of that kind of political comedy
- 21:45Speaker 1: world and staff and family, and I created a channel
- 21:49Speaker 1: in that, in that image on serious XM. You know,
- 21:53Speaker 1: politics done by comedians right left. I didn't care what
- 21:56Speaker 1: you want. I just wanted to try to bring more
- 21:58Speaker 1: entertainment to it. But those jobs were the greatest, man,
- 22:02Speaker 1: those were the smartest shows in television, and they were
- 22:04Speaker 1: the smartest audiences on television. They were young, they were diverse,
- 22:08Speaker 1: they were experimenting in so many different ways.
- 22:10Speaker 6: They were just brilliant writing staffs. And I was the fluffer.
- 22:14Speaker 1: I was the audience warm up comedian and it was
- 22:16Speaker 1: an amazing God. The money was amazing, first of all,
- 22:19Speaker 1: but it wasn't repetitive because you couldn't be contrived. You
- 22:23Speaker 1: couldn't make that audience think that you had done this before.
- 22:26Speaker 6: I mean I did, but I usually.
- 22:29Speaker 1: I mean it was all improv every night in front
- 22:32Speaker 1: of this really smart audience.
- 22:33Speaker 6: So it's really challenging.
- 22:34Speaker 1: It made me a much better comedian, smarter person also
- 22:38Speaker 1: made me way more judgmental and sensitive.
- 22:40Speaker 2: But when I did when I wrote for Game Theory
- 22:43Speaker 2: with Mionnie Jones Sidney Castillo sometimes with warm up the audience,
- 22:48Speaker 2: and they'd sometimes bring in comedians the warm up the audience,
- 22:51Speaker 2: and it was so funny because like this there was
- 22:52Speaker 2: all these stand up comics on staff.
- 22:54Speaker 3: There were writers and shit, and they always would be like.
- 22:57Speaker 2: Looking down on the idea of doing the warm up,
- 22:59Speaker 2: like they're like, I gotta fucking do that, and then
- 23:02Speaker 2: they go out there and start doing their thing, and
- 23:03Speaker 2: I'm just like, this is like, I don't know why
- 23:06Speaker 2: y'all are shitting on this. Not everybody can do this.
- 23:10Speaker 2: These people don't fucking know you. They're coming to have
- 23:12Speaker 2: an experience on this show. They're not even looking forward
- 23:15Speaker 2: to you personally, like you kind of in the way.
- 23:17Speaker 4: Yes, they're like, okay for something else, and I'm getting.
- 23:20Speaker 2: Comedy, and like between between like different segments, you gotta
- 23:24Speaker 2: come back out there and be like, all right, guys,
- 23:26Speaker 2: we're about to do this.
- 23:27Speaker 4: You know the warm up up.
- 23:29Speaker 5: You got the plays because I've attended several of the
- 23:31Speaker 5: live tapers and that's what happens. You have a comedian
- 23:34Speaker 5: come out on you up, the host comes, they take
- 23:37Speaker 5: a break because you know, you're filming, and then they
- 23:38Speaker 5: gotta be like, hey, y'all, we're taking.
- 23:40Speaker 4: A break of Hey y'all, something happened. It's a delay.
- 23:42Speaker 4: Waka wa.
- 23:44Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 23:46Speaker 1: I could, and so could other warm up comics. We
- 23:49Speaker 1: could do a show just about warm up. At the
- 23:50Speaker 1: history of it, the different shows, Uh, it is really hard.
- 23:54Speaker 1: You have to have a certain skill set, certain talent
- 23:56Speaker 1: for it. Luckily I got to the point where I
- 23:59Speaker 1: was working on the best shows, had the best guess,
- 24:02Speaker 1: the best audiences that people, you know, tickets were free,
- 24:05Speaker 1: but there was always a long wait to get a
- 24:08Speaker 1: ticket because the shows was such a big deal. So
- 24:10Speaker 1: those audience came to laugh. They were comedy shows. But
- 24:13Speaker 1: I worked on shows where the audience did not plan
- 24:17Speaker 1: to be there that day, you know eight Sometimes they
- 24:20Speaker 1: were sometimes they were homeless. I asked the guy in
- 24:22Speaker 1: the audience one time, I'm doing crowd work. That's what
- 24:24Speaker 1: you do and warm up. Where are you from? He
- 24:27Speaker 1: said outside? I go what brought you here?
- 24:32Speaker 6: That? He said?
- 24:33Speaker 1: They said there would be pizza. I mean, it can
- 24:38Speaker 1: be really depressed and it can be really sad. The
- 24:41Speaker 1: one moment you talk about when you have to come
- 24:42Speaker 1: back out. I usually didn't do that. I usually could
- 24:45Speaker 1: get mental.
- 24:45Speaker 6: Production staff to no.
- 24:47Speaker 1: It was so awkward to have to come back out
- 24:49Speaker 1: during a break and try something new.
- 24:52Speaker 6: I just I just couldn't so, but one time I
- 24:54Speaker 6: did have to do that.
- 24:55Speaker 1: This was on a show for the New York Yankees
- 24:57Speaker 1: television network in New York, and the episode of the
- 25:02Speaker 1: show was called Captains, and they had on panel four
- 25:05Speaker 1: of the most famous New York athletes ever Harry Carson,
- 25:09Speaker 1: New York Giants, Michael Ruzzioni, New York Rangers, US Olympic
- 25:13Speaker 1: team to beat Russia, Derek Jeeter, Dom Mattingly, the Yankees.
- 25:17Speaker 6: Okay, I'm backstage with them.
- 25:20Speaker 1: These are my boyhod idols, especially the baseball players, and
- 25:23Speaker 1: I introduced my dad to Yogi Bearra that night. It
- 25:26Speaker 1: was an amazing, magical night, but there was a production
- 25:30Speaker 1: is shoot. There's a light lighting issue, and they go, Pete,
- 25:32Speaker 1: get back out there. So I walk out and now
- 25:35Speaker 1: I'm standing in front of these four legends trying to
- 25:38Speaker 1: get this audience's attention, like how why would you want
- 25:41Speaker 1: to hear.
- 25:42Speaker 6: From this guy? They've never heard of me. I'm a monkey.
- 25:44Speaker 1: I'm just out there shuggling trying to make but I'm
- 25:48Speaker 1: too smart for that. I'm like, I'm not going to
- 25:50Speaker 1: act like I can do anything to distract these people
- 25:54Speaker 1: from those legends.
- 25:56Speaker 6: So I start to say, I'm gonna to these guys.
- 26:00Speaker 1: Let's do a little Q and A with these guys
- 26:02Speaker 1: while you know, the lights are down and or while
- 26:05Speaker 1: the tech issue was being fixed. And that's when Don Maddingly,
- 26:09Speaker 1: whose poster I had as a twelve year old, who
- 26:12Speaker 1: I went to New York City's first time to see him,
- 26:14Speaker 1: sat on the first baseline whose rookie card I saved
- 26:17Speaker 1: up to buy. He said, Dom Manley, my boyhood idle,
- 26:21Speaker 1: yelled to me, Hey Derek, he goes, hey, Jeter doesn't
- 26:25Speaker 1: think you're funny.
- 26:26Speaker 3: Shit.
- 26:27Speaker 6: Oh no, Maddingly.
- 26:29Speaker 1: Yelled to me that another New York legend didn't think
- 26:32Speaker 1: it was funny. So these two guys are talking about me.
- 26:35Speaker 1: I go, oh no, Derek, Jeter doesn't think I'm funny.
- 26:39Speaker 1: All that matters to me right now is that my
- 26:41Speaker 1: boyhood idol just said my other idol doesn't.
- 26:46Speaker 4: This is right, yall know I exist.
- 26:50Speaker 1: And then in that moment I realize what my strategy
- 26:53Speaker 1: is gonna be, and it was what I what every
- 26:55Speaker 1: comedian does. It doesn't matter who it is, it is
- 26:59Speaker 1: time him to attack for Jeter's family. He was wearing
- 27:07Speaker 1: a yellow suit. I go, I can't believe Derek Jeter
- 27:11Speaker 1: is making fun of me. I would never want to
- 27:13Speaker 1: say anything that would upset him, certainly not the fact
- 27:15Speaker 1: that he's dressed like a mustard packet.
- 27:19Speaker 6: Oh fa.
- 27:25Speaker 3: No, that's that's hilarious man.
- 27:26Speaker 2: It's it's also like such a vulnerable thing to be
- 27:30Speaker 2: on the microphone talking in front of people, uh in
- 27:33Speaker 2: the first place. And I think, you know, especially in
- 27:36Speaker 2: that situation, you kind of get a little bit of
- 27:38Speaker 2: a boost if you're a gamer, Like it's it's like,
- 27:40Speaker 2: all right, I gotta get up for this. And like,
- 27:42Speaker 2: it was so funny watching these you know, veteran comedians
- 27:47Speaker 2: that at my job be like, oh, fucking normous and
- 27:50Speaker 2: then they just fucking turn it on like a muscles,
- 27:52Speaker 2: Like what the fuck?
- 27:53Speaker 5: You were just back here, And I was gonna ask
- 27:56Speaker 5: you that, as you've been on live TV, like ready,
- 28:00Speaker 5: on all these other different things, what is what is
- 28:03Speaker 5: it that drives you to continue to go like as
- 28:06Speaker 5: a muscle, because I didn't even realize I have.
- 28:08Speaker 4: A muscle for this.
- 28:09Speaker 5: Because for those of you that don't realize, we you know,
- 28:11Speaker 5: we do Bottels Deep, which is our sports show with
- 28:13Speaker 5: Justin and just one time Justin told me, he said,
- 28:16Speaker 5: you have a switch.
- 28:17Speaker 4: I said, what do you mean?
- 28:18Speaker 5: He say, we could be casually talking and he said,
- 28:21Speaker 5: the second we go live, he say, it's just something
- 28:24Speaker 5: kind of changes and all of a sudden, I don't.
- 28:27Speaker 4: I don't even realize I'm doing it.
- 28:29Speaker 5: Like when is it that things became so automatic that
- 28:32Speaker 5: you go, okay, I can adjust to anybody.
- 28:35Speaker 6: Well, it's a.
- 28:36Speaker 1: Very that's a great question and a very flattering suggestion
- 28:39Speaker 1: that that's a talent that I possessed.
- 28:41Speaker 6: But I think it is I can get to survival.
- 28:43Speaker 1: I mean I I definitely fashioned myself to be the
- 28:47Speaker 1: kind of comedian who could entertain any audience anywhere. So
- 28:51Speaker 1: what corporate you know, gig at an industry event, or
- 28:56Speaker 1: you know all black people in Harlem, or Jewish like
- 29:00Speaker 1: a synagogue or like even I used to do this
- 29:02Speaker 1: gig every summer, young kids at a synagogue. I'm not Jewish.
- 29:06Speaker 1: I didn't know anything about grown up Jewish or being
- 29:09Speaker 1: in a second they had boys and one side girls.
- 29:10Speaker 1: On the other side of it was religious. And I
- 29:12Speaker 1: just went in there and did an impression of a
- 29:14Speaker 1: cat barfing, got my two hundred bucks and went home.
- 29:16Speaker 1: I wanted to make money, so I made myself as
- 29:19Speaker 1: adaptable and I want it and I love people, all people,
- 29:22Speaker 1: so I want to make everybody laugh. I want to
- 29:24Speaker 1: entertain everybody. And I also think, like you're the reason
- 29:27Speaker 1: why you have that quality, why anybody does, is because
- 29:31Speaker 1: when the lights turn on when you go live, in
- 29:32Speaker 1: this case, there are people watching. We should be entertaining.
- 29:35Speaker 1: We should do our job. Our job is to entertain.
- 29:37Speaker 1: I hate these people are like, you know.
- 29:39Speaker 6: I don't want to promote my show, you know, I
- 29:40Speaker 6: just wan like, no people.
- 29:43Speaker 1: Are there because you have a microphone and there's a camera,
- 29:46Speaker 1: and you should use all of it and you should
- 29:48Speaker 1: be interesting and entertaining and smart or whatever or don't
- 29:52Speaker 1: waste people's time.
- 29:53Speaker 6: So that's the job.
- 29:54Speaker 1: The lights go on when when you go live, be good,
- 29:57Speaker 1: be be interesting, be engaging.
- 30:00Speaker 5: If you want their money, because it's like, oh, people
- 30:02Speaker 5: are paying to be here or paying for whatever this
- 30:06Speaker 5: thing is at a later date or yeah, we would
- 30:09Speaker 5: have everyone so while we'd have a podcast guest back
- 30:11Speaker 5: in the day who was like too cool for school. Yes,
- 30:14Speaker 5: it's like, dude, you're fucking killing me, Like what are
- 30:17Speaker 5: you doing?
- 30:17Speaker 6: Man?
- 30:18Speaker 5: You're giving me nothing to work with and so not
- 30:20Speaker 5: time time because me and Roger got professionals. If you
- 30:22Speaker 5: are a droughtwall, we will look at each other and
- 30:25Speaker 5: act like you ain't in the room.
- 30:26Speaker 3: Yeah, we'll bounce.
- 30:27Speaker 2: We'll just bounce off each other if it gets that bad.
- 30:29Speaker 2: I remember once as a joke, though this was on purpose.
- 30:32Speaker 2: This is when we were still experimenting with what is
- 30:34Speaker 2: a podcast? It's sixteen years ago, and my brother came
- 30:38Speaker 2: on as a joke because we were like me and
- 30:41Speaker 2: here were riffing one day in real life and we
- 30:43Speaker 2: were like, dude, you know what fucking sucks rappers who
- 30:46Speaker 2: do radio interviews and they just fucking are so vague
- 30:50Speaker 2: because they're trying to be cool. I fucking hate I
- 30:53Speaker 2: was like, I love hip hop, I hate a rap interview.
- 30:56Speaker 2: Now it's changed over my lifetime because all these motherfuckers
- 30:59Speaker 2: got old and they went to therapy, and now I
- 31:00Speaker 2: opened up and ship. Now you just you know like
- 31:03Speaker 2: the method man is talking about depression and ship. But
- 31:05Speaker 2: back in the day, it used to be like, yeah,
- 31:07Speaker 2: you know what I'm saying on me. And so one
- 31:09Speaker 2: time we have usual words. We had my brother come
- 31:11Speaker 2: on the show and pretend to be this rapper that
- 31:15Speaker 2: we just made up the name like it was like
- 31:17Speaker 2: MC no name remember that years ago and.
- 31:19Speaker 3: The audience guys, because we did. We didn't tell the
- 31:22Speaker 3: audience it was a skit. They got so mad.
- 31:26Speaker 4: It was like, what is this ship?
- 31:28Speaker 3: And I was like it sucks. I was like, we
- 31:29Speaker 3: learned two lessons today.
- 31:31Speaker 2: One that was much funnier to me and my brother
- 31:33Speaker 2: than it was to everyone else.
- 31:35Speaker 3: Too.
- 31:35Speaker 2: You gotta let the audience in on the joke because
- 31:37Speaker 2: that was it was. It's still funny to me, but man,
- 31:40Speaker 2: that did not that did not rogue.
- 31:43Speaker 1: But it's also just like one of the coolest things
- 31:46Speaker 1: about working at Serio six M almost fifteen years but
- 31:49Speaker 1: I hosted a live show there, and at first it
- 31:51Speaker 1: was on the comedy channels, that was on the political channels.
- 31:53Speaker 6: Then it was on like this hybrid channel.
- 31:55Speaker 1: So I had all types of people coming in being
- 31:57Speaker 1: guests on the show and huge big name stars acts musicians,
- 32:01Speaker 1: comedians obviously, artist, journalists, politicians.
- 32:04Speaker 6: You name it. You know, anybody who's promoting any book.
- 32:07Speaker 1: I got to interview everybody, and so I have a
- 32:11Speaker 1: billion stories just about that.
- 32:13Speaker 6: But the point that I.
- 32:14Speaker 1: Think is really, you know, relevant, when an actor or
- 32:17Speaker 1: a rapper or a musician especially come in and they're
- 32:21Speaker 1: they're not interesting, It's like, yeah, because someone wrote your
- 32:23Speaker 1: shit for you.
- 32:24Speaker 6: Yes, comedian isn't interesting. That's just sacris saying.
- 32:28Speaker 1: And here's no compassion to that guy because he's he
- 32:30Speaker 1: should be good.
- 32:31Speaker 6: He writes his own stuff. He's supposed to be able
- 32:33Speaker 6: to improv right, and be good in a woman.
- 32:35Speaker 1: But I was always so excited when someone came in,
- 32:38Speaker 1: whether they were a big name or not, and they
- 32:42Speaker 1: they could banter, they could play, they knew how to
- 32:44Speaker 1: how to improv.
- 32:45Speaker 6: And I just one quick one, and there's so many.
- 32:48Speaker 1: My favorite moment probably ever was the actor Jeffrey Tambour,
- 32:52Speaker 1: who was in Larry Sanders Show and Arrested.
- 32:55Speaker 6: Development and so many other things.
- 32:57Speaker 1: One of the funniest guys ever in the moment and
- 33:01Speaker 1: when you get him, he's just he's a master. So
- 33:05Speaker 1: he would those guys would come in and they didn't
- 33:07Speaker 1: know me. I knew them, but they would always test me.
- 33:09Speaker 1: Another example would be Norm McDonald or William Shatner or
- 33:13Speaker 1: Bob Sagett like coming in and boom boom, boom boom,
- 33:17Speaker 1: Kevin Hart like, oh, I knew him because he's a comic,
- 33:20Speaker 1: but like some of these guys, so they would test me.
- 33:23Speaker 1: And once they knew I got the game, then we
- 33:27Speaker 1: danced right. The third time Tamboor comes in. He knows
- 33:32Speaker 1: that I know. The rule is comedy, don't matter who
- 33:35Speaker 1: gets hurt, that's the rule. Top of the interview, he goes, Pete,
- 33:41Speaker 1: I'm glad to see that you're still here.
- 33:45Speaker 6: A little surprised.
- 33:48Speaker 1: Why why are you saying that, Jeffrey, I mean, right
- 33:52Speaker 1: away he said he opened the interview. I go, things
- 33:54Speaker 1: are going great. I actually just launched this new channel.
- 33:56Speaker 1: I spearheaded it. It's going great. Things have not been
- 33:59Speaker 1: going better. Why are you saying it like that?
- 34:01Speaker 6: He goes, no, no, no, I'm just surprised. I well,
- 34:03Speaker 6: why are you surprised? And he goes, because you're not good.
- 34:11Speaker 3: Off the top road and starting to show.
- 34:15Speaker 6: Of the opening of the interview.
- 34:17Speaker 1: No even he had to be there for another thirty
- 34:18Speaker 1: minutes he said, you're not good. He was like, just
- 34:23Speaker 1: like such a pro move and such a it was
- 34:27Speaker 1: a test for me. And so many other people did
- 34:30Speaker 1: that same thing right at the top because they didn't.
- 34:32Speaker 6: They needed to know if they could have fun.
- 34:34Speaker 1: They didn't care at that point about what side they're
- 34:36Speaker 1: so famous this person or that person.
- 34:38Speaker 6: Jeff Goldbloom's another one.
- 34:39Speaker 1: I mean I could think of they just come in
- 34:41Speaker 1: and they play, and if you play with them, they're happening.
- 34:43Speaker 6: If you don't, by the way, they don't come back.
- 34:44Speaker 2: Yeah, And they've been doing it so often. Some of
- 34:47Speaker 2: these people when they're promoting shit.
- 34:48Speaker 4: That just stuff gets boring, especially.
- 34:50Speaker 3: Those guys who promote books because like if.
- 34:52Speaker 2: You know, if you guys on this side of the
- 34:54Speaker 2: al I know fans, y'all might not know this, but
- 34:57Speaker 2: we get like pr releases and shit, and it's like
- 34:59Speaker 2: so so has a book and they'll even send you
- 35:02Speaker 2: like here's the ten questions to ask and and like
- 35:06Speaker 2: you know, so it doesn't you don't even have to
- 35:07Speaker 2: read the book. You just go in and you ask
- 35:09Speaker 2: them some basically, so the economy, what's going on with that?
- 35:14Speaker 3: And it fucking sucks?
- 35:16Speaker 6: I don't. One of the suggested questions is, so the economy,
- 35:20Speaker 6: what is up?
- 35:21Speaker 2: Yeah, it's like Barron Allen. It's like Barron Allen. It's
- 35:24Speaker 2: just like, I know you have a joke about airplanes.
- 35:27Speaker 2: It's like, so you've ever been on an airplane? It's
- 35:29Speaker 2: like where could this possibly go by?
- 35:31Speaker 4: It?
- 35:31Speaker 5: And the thing is, whenever Roger has authors on, he
- 35:34Speaker 5: actually reads the books and they're shocked in surprised because
- 35:37Speaker 5: he's like.
- 35:38Speaker 4: These very in depth and deep questions. That's like, oh you.
- 35:41Speaker 2: It does take a lot longer for them to be
- 35:43Speaker 2: guessed though, because I'm like, I'm gonna read the shit.
- 35:46Speaker 2: I'm not gonna bullshit you. But maybe you gotta wait
- 35:49Speaker 2: a month come on the show. But you know, if
- 35:55Speaker 2: you give me an advanced copy, you know, hey, it's
- 35:57Speaker 2: still gonna line up with when it's time to sell
- 35:59Speaker 2: the books.
- 35:59Speaker 3: Man.
- 35:59Speaker 2: But yeah, I do like that stuff. But it's mostly
- 36:02Speaker 2: because I hate so many of these.
- 36:04Speaker 4: Generic r and they all sound the same.
- 36:07Speaker 2: They're just they're just doing the thing. They're holding up
- 36:09Speaker 2: the book to the camera and being like, so it's
- 36:11Speaker 2: a book about this.
- 36:12Speaker 6: I always try to be different.
- 36:13Speaker 1: I always try to make the guests my show, and
- 36:16Speaker 1: that's what I've been doing for years. I mean, you
- 36:18Speaker 1: should do three guests a day, five days a week.
- 36:20Speaker 1: Now I do one or two to day, but either
- 36:22Speaker 1: way you can see it's just like some of the
- 36:24Speaker 1: books behind me. I have thousands of books whose authors
- 36:27Speaker 1: I've had the great privilege to interview, and I love
- 36:31Speaker 1: it and I try to give them as much respect
- 36:33Speaker 1: as I can and the prep, but also I try
- 36:35Speaker 1: to give be different and make sure the audience isn't
- 36:38Speaker 1: bored by this subject matter this guest, because a lot
- 36:41Speaker 1: of times the guest is a real good writer, right,
- 36:43Speaker 1: a journalist, but not.
- 36:45Speaker 6: A good.
- 36:48Speaker 5: I've heard terrible interviews, like you're writing it's beautiful.
- 36:50Speaker 2: But I'm not gonna say no names, man, But like
- 36:53Speaker 2: I was one time, I was in a situation where
- 36:57Speaker 2: I was so disappointed because I read this book and
- 37:00Speaker 2: this dude was so fucking funny. I was like, oh
- 37:03Speaker 2: my like crying, laughing reading this book and it's like, oh,
- 37:06Speaker 2: he's gonna be here today.
- 37:07Speaker 3: I was like, oh shit, this is fucking but he was.
- 37:10Speaker 2: He didn't have the he didn't have the gift of gab.
- 37:13Speaker 2: He had the book, the gift.
- 37:14Speaker 4: Of right, And I was like that this.
- 37:17Speaker 2: Interview would be awesome if you could like maybe type
- 37:20Speaker 2: out a page and then come back in ten minutes
- 37:22Speaker 2: and then say.
- 37:22Speaker 3: To answer to this question. But like, right now, I
- 37:25Speaker 3: just want to fucking jump out.
- 37:26Speaker 2: The studio and go to commercial and never come back
- 37:29Speaker 2: and just pretended to like, this is not selling your book.
- 37:32Speaker 2: This is on getting your book return. No one's believing
- 37:35Speaker 2: me when I'm like, no, this guy fucking Lyris. You
- 37:37Speaker 2: guys got to read the book. Okay, you know what,
- 37:38Speaker 2: shut up, let me read your book. Okay, but yeah,
- 37:41Speaker 2: it is the worst. How'd you grow up?
- 37:44Speaker 3: Like? Were you in the theater? Were you into sports? Like?
- 37:48Speaker 1: What did you?
- 37:49Speaker 3: How'd you grow up and get into this lane of entertainment?
- 37:53Speaker 1: Uh?
- 37:53Speaker 6: I was into everything.
- 37:55Speaker 1: I was a social butterfly, but I was both a
- 37:57Speaker 1: jock and a theater kid. I went from lacross practice
- 37:59Speaker 1: to play with her. I did the morning announcements, that's
- 38:02Speaker 1: very rare. I was ski club president, student government president.
- 38:06Speaker 1: I made it my business to know everybody. I never
- 38:08Speaker 1: missed a day as school. I did the morning announcements
- 38:11Speaker 1: like my junior and senior year. I hosted the talent
- 38:14Speaker 1: show my junior and senior year. It was a graduating
- 38:16Speaker 1: class like five hundred upstate New York outside Syracuse, a
- 38:18Speaker 1: pretty pre rural area, almost entirely white Christian, so very
- 38:24Speaker 1: homogeneous and very country.
- 38:26Speaker 6: And I grew up that way. My dad grew up
- 38:29Speaker 6: in the city of Syracuse.
- 38:30Speaker 1: My mom was a public school teacher in the city
- 38:33Speaker 1: of Syracuse. But there's two types of people who become comedians.
- 38:36Speaker 1: My theory, if I want to be so binary, those
- 38:38Speaker 1: who didn't get enough hugs and seek it out and
- 38:41Speaker 1: those who had too many hugs and seek constant love.
- 38:44Speaker 1: I had constant love in my home growing up, and
- 38:46Speaker 1: I wouldn't change that or trade that for the world.
- 38:49Speaker 1: Maybe makes it harder to establish resilience when you struggle
- 38:51Speaker 1: when you're.
- 38:52Speaker 6: Older, I've found.
- 38:53Speaker 1: But my parents are still alive and still love me
- 38:56Speaker 1: and are still super proud of me, and so I
- 38:58Speaker 1: think I've always kind of s album.
- 39:00Speaker 3: But it is weird. It is weird having good parents.
- 39:04Speaker 6: It is.
- 39:04Speaker 2: I didn't think it would be weird, But the older
- 39:07Speaker 2: I get, the weirder that I see it is because
- 39:09Speaker 2: there's so many people that are just like, oh man,
- 39:12Speaker 2: my parents fucking suck, right, don't they all suck? They're
- 39:14Speaker 2: just the god damn worse. Oh Thanksgiving shit, I gotta
- 39:16Speaker 2: fucking see these motherfuckers get And I'm.
- 39:19Speaker 3: Just like, I'm not gonna say anything because it's just gonna.
- 39:21Speaker 2: Feel like I'm either rubbing it in or being trying
- 39:23Speaker 2: to be contrarian. You know, this is not when we
- 39:26Speaker 2: were growing up and there were movies about this. It
- 39:28Speaker 2: was supposed to be like a cool time.
- 39:30Speaker 3: But it is cool for me. But I'm sorry it's
- 39:32Speaker 3: not cool for you.
- 39:34Speaker 2: But you're right, a lot of funny people, I feel
- 39:37Speaker 2: like it's all like h coping.
- 39:39Speaker 3: Mechanism or trauma response or whatever.
- 39:42Speaker 2: I think a lot of my humor comes from when
- 39:45Speaker 2: my parents would argue. I would kind of be this
- 39:48Speaker 2: weird mediator between them, and.
- 39:50Speaker 3: I think that's like how it's like. But if we're
- 39:52Speaker 3: all laughing, nobody's mad.
- 39:54Speaker 6: You know, it's always interesting, weird. You're dancing in the
- 39:58Speaker 6: corner distracted that too.
- 40:00Speaker 1: My brother my dad had some issues, but more than
- 40:04Speaker 1: anything else. And I think the answer to your question,
- 40:06Speaker 1: I didn't quite like why humor. I was tiny, little fella.
- 40:12Speaker 1: I was the smallest person in my class for sure,
- 40:16Speaker 1: and almost every year, including high school when it really mattered,
- 40:19Speaker 1: especially to boys. Junior high and in high school, I
- 40:22Speaker 1: went to.
- 40:23Speaker 6: Pretty late and lost my hair early, which was a
- 40:25Speaker 6: bit my actual year. Shit, And yeah, the simp, thank you,
- 40:29Speaker 6: thank you for the right.
- 40:34Speaker 1: God.
- 40:35Speaker 6: What kind of a god would do that.
- 40:38Speaker 1: I was small and so being small, you know, and
- 40:41Speaker 1: wanting to people to like me, and also just as
- 40:44Speaker 1: a protection mechanism as a boy to not be bullied
- 40:47Speaker 1: by their boys if if they bullied me, you know,
- 40:52Speaker 1: they were all they could beat me in a in
- 40:54Speaker 1: a fight, and I got beat up plenty, but they
- 40:57Speaker 1: were more likely to want to be friends with me
- 41:00Speaker 1: than to suffer my verbals, so I would be I
- 41:04Speaker 1: would take them down. And also my brother was bullied,
- 41:07Speaker 1: My older brother was bullied, and I watched that happen.
- 41:09Speaker 6: It's very much a part of who I.
- 41:11Speaker 1: Am today why I'm very much into righteousness and justice
- 41:15Speaker 1: and equal rights and human rights and civil rights.
- 41:17Speaker 6: I mean because it started with my brother being.
- 41:19Speaker 1: Bullied, and he was also got radicalized by Noam Chomsky
- 41:22Speaker 1: and made me like an anti racist, anti sexist when
- 41:25Speaker 1: I was younger. I'm still racist and sexist, don't get
- 41:27Speaker 1: me wrong, but I understand the idea, and I'm trying
- 41:28Speaker 1: not to be all the time, especially against Malaysians.
- 41:31Speaker 6: I don't know if you meant any Dominicans either.
- 41:33Speaker 2: I don't know many, but you know, I mean, I
- 41:37Speaker 2: can I can be talking to being racist against people
- 41:40Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 41:40Speaker 3: I think that's the easiest way, is if you know him.
- 41:43Speaker 3: It's harder to be racist.
- 41:44Speaker 4: It is.
- 41:46Speaker 1: I lived in a Dominican neighborhood and I didn't know
- 41:49Speaker 1: anything about them, and then I learned and not all I.
- 41:52Speaker 6: Needed, and I was out of there because the music horrible.
- 42:00Speaker 3: Oh you had you can't? You can't? Is it that
- 42:02Speaker 3: you can't dance?
- 42:03Speaker 6: Pete?
- 42:03Speaker 3: Is that we're gonna find out?
- 42:04Speaker 4: Let us know you got two left feet?
- 42:06Speaker 2: It is the Dominican music to too. Is it too
- 42:08Speaker 2: much for you?
- 42:10Speaker 6: I'll have you know, m h.
- 42:12Speaker 1: If there's a dance floor, I'll have everybody in a
- 42:15Speaker 1: circle around me. Which is another early of me as
- 42:20Speaker 1: a performer roller skating parties. Dance in the middle of
- 42:23Speaker 1: the gym. The whole entire class was watching me break dance.
- 42:28Speaker 1: I made it my business for everybody to know who
- 42:30Speaker 1: I was. I was the center of attention whenever I
- 42:32Speaker 1: could be, and I used that, like I say, a
- 42:35Speaker 1: skill set.
- 42:36Speaker 6: To punch up.
- 42:37Speaker 1: So when the bullies were in my age and younger
- 42:41Speaker 1: bullying kids who are nonconformist artists, whatever, I would crush
- 42:47Speaker 1: those kids.
- 42:47Speaker 6: Right were my friends already, so I just had it. Recently.
- 42:51Speaker 1: I'm still very good friends Loud. I got my buddies
- 42:53Speaker 1: from high school. And one of the biggest meanest jocks
- 42:56Speaker 1: he said I was mean to him in high school.
- 43:00Speaker 1: I go, well, you probably deserved it. You would probably
- 43:01Speaker 1: be mean to me or somebody else, marginalizing somebody else,
- 43:05Speaker 1: and he goes, you don't understand. I go, what, this
- 43:07Speaker 1: guy's still like six', five good looking, guy very, successful
- 43:11Speaker 1: and he, goes you.
- 43:12Speaker 6: Called me disproportionate body.
- 43:14Speaker 5: Boy he remembered that that.
- 43:20Speaker 4: You sketched that on that man's.
- 43:22Speaker 1: Heart as soon as he said, THAT i just started
- 43:26Speaker 1: dying laughing because it was my.
- 43:27Speaker 6: JOKE i was, like that's look at.
- 43:29Speaker 3: You, YEAH i, mean it's. Good gotta give it up.
- 43:31Speaker 5: That that's hilarious and for me AND i SOMETIMES i
- 43:35Speaker 5: think about me And. Roger roger actually helped me get into.
- 43:40Speaker 5: COMEDY i feel bad For roger BECAUSE i grew up
- 43:44Speaker 5: in a non funny, Household like literally everything was, serious.
- 43:48Speaker 4: Everything was taking the heart like all that.
- 43:50Speaker 5: Stuff so When roger's first started dating, me he actually
- 43:53Speaker 5: had to be, like, hey calm, down it's a. Joke
- 43:56Speaker 5: like he actually actually had to do that several, times
- 43:58Speaker 5: and father was, like, oh, oh you're not.
- 44:00Speaker 2: SERIOUSLY i THINK i think one of the STILL i
- 44:04Speaker 2: still live by THE i still live by THIS u
- 44:07Speaker 2: comedy only really works in safety when you feel. Safe
- 44:12Speaker 2: i'm not saying you are, safe BECAUSE i don't think
- 44:14Speaker 2: anything safe in comedy just one fucking thing and you're, Like, god,
- 44:17Speaker 2: damn fuck that one. Up but the idea we're, collaborating
- 44:23Speaker 2: you're you're in a place where the intentions are good
- 44:25Speaker 2: and we're having that's it's hard to build that with,
- 44:28Speaker 2: people but once you build, IT i, mean it's basically it's,
- 44:31Speaker 2: sacred you.
- 44:31Speaker 3: Know like AND i think.
- 44:35Speaker 1: Speak to the different cultures of, comedy AND i would
- 44:40Speaker 1: talk about three in, particular like kind of white boy
- 44:44Speaker 1: comedy like WHERE i grew, Up jewish, comedy and black.
- 44:49Speaker 1: Comedy we can do, gender BUT i don't think it
- 44:52Speaker 1: really changes any of these things BECAUSE i think it's
- 44:54Speaker 1: more about the. Culture AND i can see to each
- 44:57Speaker 1: Of my opinion of each of those genres, is But
- 45:00Speaker 1: i'll just say.
- 45:00Speaker 6: THIS i grew up in my, culture.
- 45:03Speaker 1: The homogeneous culture THAT i grew up in the eighties
- 45:05Speaker 1: and nineties And Upstate New. York LIKE i, said, white Mostly,
- 45:07Speaker 1: christian very little. Diversity AND i was exposed to more
- 45:11Speaker 1: diversity because my mom was a public school, teacher and
- 45:14Speaker 1: cousins who were mixed, race and a couple of other
- 45:16Speaker 1: experiences my parents luckily put me. Into but, mostly you,
- 45:19Speaker 1: know pretty much just, SO i grew up with that,
- 45:21Speaker 1: humor which is still within itself. Diverse six of my
- 45:25Speaker 1: closest friends were all funnier than, me funny, guys really funny.
- 45:28Speaker 1: Guys then there was another tier guys who were also,
- 45:30Speaker 1: funny but not as funny as. Us and then there
- 45:32Speaker 1: was the other guys that tried to be but they.
- 45:33Speaker 1: Weren't THEN i went to college and that's WHEN i
- 45:39Speaker 1: BECAME i KNEW i wanted to be a, comedian SO
- 45:40Speaker 1: i became a student of. Comedy and in COLLEGE i
- 45:43Speaker 1: met a lot of gay, people On jewish people out
- 45:46Speaker 1: Of hispanic, people BUT i gravitated towards black, people and
- 45:50Speaker 1: it was.
- 45:51Speaker 6: Because of humor.
- 45:53Speaker 1: AND i could talk about that. EXPERIENCE i kind of
- 45:56Speaker 1: want to write a book about, it BUT i would
- 45:58Speaker 1: want to write it with, them those guys Who i'm
- 46:01Speaker 1: still friends, with and they taught me a whole different
- 46:05Speaker 1: brand of comedy THAT i can speak. To and then
- 46:09Speaker 1: WHEN i moved To New york and lived in The
- 46:10Speaker 1: Upper West side and was around on the, comedians so
- 46:12Speaker 1: many More jewish comedians that were very.
- 46:13Speaker 6: Influential gay, comedians different.
- 46:15Speaker 1: Women for, Sure but that's SOMETHING i THINK i always
- 46:19Speaker 1: was curious.
- 46:20Speaker 6: About what made people.
- 46:21Speaker 1: Laugh and obviously culturally there are similar. Experiences nobody's monolithic
- 46:26Speaker 1: blah blah. Blah but let's be, Honest like we have
- 46:29Speaker 1: jokes about hunting deer and and it's mostly a white person.
- 46:34Speaker 6: Thing well what about my, friend my black friend who's hunts.
- 46:36Speaker 6: Deer all, right he can laugh, too.
- 46:37Speaker 3: But right, right this is not gonna kill in this black.
- 46:41Speaker 2: Room and you know, it, yes like you had.
- 46:45Speaker 3: To figure it out.
- 46:46Speaker 6: EARLIER i wanted to make every audience.
- 46:49Speaker 1: Laugh and best, comics to, me the best white comics
- 46:53Speaker 1: there kind of was like black comics and white, comics,
- 46:55Speaker 1: right like the black and on The pantheon of The
- 46:59Speaker 1: beast it's mostly black, comics, Right it's then It's George
- 47:04Speaker 1: carlin and you know a couple of others.
- 47:08Speaker 6: Whatever BUT.
- 47:10Speaker 1: I thought Watching Bill Bill BURN i came up together
- 47:14Speaker 1: and Watching bill and a couple of other white comics
- 47:17Speaker 1: who name you probably don't, know but everybody Knows. Bill
- 47:20Speaker 1: he worked those black, rooms AND i was, LIKE i
- 47:23Speaker 1: want to work those black. Rooms and because of my college,
- 47:26Speaker 1: experience like those guys brought me. Up and then ONCE i,
- 47:30Speaker 1: did it was it was the greatest. Achievement it felt
- 47:33Speaker 1: the greatest just Because i'm white and they're all, black
- 47:37Speaker 1: AND i think everybody knows what that's.
- 47:39Speaker 3: Like and there's a bump to get over when you
- 47:41Speaker 3: walk in that room because.
- 47:43Speaker 5: People will photo, arms look at you and and it's.
- 47:46Speaker 5: Different it's that make me.
- 47:47Speaker 2: Laugh but as with all things, too there's also the
- 47:50Speaker 2: curve the other, way, right there's like the bounce that
- 47:52Speaker 2: you get off of, it because it's it's like white
- 47:55Speaker 2: people being good at anything that black people feel like
- 47:57Speaker 2: we're the best. At, Right if you can, dance there's
- 47:59Speaker 2: an extra level like the white boy can. Dance if
- 48:03Speaker 2: you can play, back if you can play basketball is
- 48:06Speaker 2: like an extra level.
- 48:07Speaker 3: Like, hey check out the white, dude you could actually play.
- 48:09Speaker 1: Basketball there's there's always a make me laugh posture for any,
- 48:14Speaker 1: audience but black people have the righteous like opinion of,
- 48:18Speaker 1: like why WOULD i laugh at? You, yeah and so
- 48:22Speaker 1: and and it's also true for black comics.
- 48:25Speaker 6: Too don't get me.
- 48:25Speaker 1: Wrong it's certain of a white comic walks in front
- 48:28Speaker 1: of the black, room but if a black, comic black
- 48:30Speaker 1: people are just as afraid to perform in front Black.
- 48:32Speaker 6: Everybody knows what happens when you when you bomb in
- 48:34Speaker 6: front of a black, audience it. Happens it's the, worst
- 48:37Speaker 6: and it hurts real.
- 48:38Speaker 3: Bad it's the.
- 48:39Speaker 1: Worst white audiences are far less, verbal more, patient but
- 48:45Speaker 1: the true you just, said the bounce if you if
- 48:48Speaker 1: you're a white person or a black, person but if
- 48:50Speaker 1: you're any, comic but especially if you're a white gyle
- 48:52Speaker 1: say it seems a little better to make other people
- 48:55Speaker 1: who aren't your, quote people people who don't look like
- 48:57Speaker 1: you haven't lived.
- 48:58Speaker 6: Your, experience to go and kill.
- 49:02Speaker 1: In front of a black, room WHICH i did a
- 49:04Speaker 1: lot in the late nineties and early. Arts there is nothing.
- 49:08Speaker 1: Better the people are running, around.
- 49:11Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah it's the, Best yeah we have it's the, expressions,
- 49:15Speaker 5: yeah physically react kicking.
- 49:18Speaker 1: Legs, yeah kind of the kind of, like, uh physical
- 49:24Speaker 1: jubilation that you get from a black audience is so,
- 49:29Speaker 1: wonderful and.
- 49:30Speaker 2: It's only you can only get that from stand up
- 49:33Speaker 2: and sleight of hand.
- 49:34Speaker 3: Magic those are the only two Times i've seen.
- 49:37Speaker 4: It, now we love slight of hand magic because.
- 49:40Speaker 3: It's not even it's not even like on. Purpose.
- 49:43Speaker 2: No, remember we went to that fucking bowling alley thing
- 49:46Speaker 2: and that dude came home and started doing slighter hand
- 49:48Speaker 2: magic in front of us and some weird ship with
- 49:49Speaker 2: the phone. Man it took everything from me AND i
- 49:53Speaker 2: could get up and. RUN i was, LIKE i want
- 49:57Speaker 2: to clap at him.
- 49:59Speaker 6: More i'll give you two. MORE i can't attest to.
- 50:02Speaker 1: It but do you think black folks will watch a
- 50:05Speaker 1: hilarious TikTok video where someone slips some falls to get
- 50:07Speaker 1: scared and run. AROUND i think they'll laughed At, yeah black,
- 50:12Speaker 1: people not all black, people but a lot of black
- 50:14Speaker 1: people will laugh at black people beating up white people with.
- 50:17Speaker 6: Chairs that was.
- 50:18Speaker 3: Good that was a good. One that was a great.
- 50:20Speaker 3: Name and we don't have enough of.
- 50:22Speaker 2: Those to be, honest we do not like we should we,
- 50:25Speaker 2: should we, should we should make that an annual. Tradition
- 50:29Speaker 2: you don't find some allies that are willing to reenactment
- 50:32Speaker 2: Like Civil war. Reenactments but it's just the chair at the,
- 50:35Speaker 2: dock never.
- 50:36Speaker 3: Forget, yeah like we're both.
- 50:39Speaker 2: Like, hey we get some cool white people to line,
- 50:41Speaker 2: up we will beat you too.
- 50:42Speaker 3: Hard you.
- 50:43Speaker 2: Know it's it's just like The Civil. War there's no
- 50:44Speaker 2: good there's no real bullets in the.
- 50:46Speaker 5: Musket why did you name the boats folding chair because
- 50:50Speaker 5: that was the name of the.
- 50:51Speaker 4: Boat it was, not, sir but that's what we. GONA
- 50:53Speaker 4: i love.
- 50:53Speaker 3: It we had a whole alternate.
- 50:55Speaker 6: History.
- 50:55Speaker 3: Man, yes.
- 50:57Speaker 6: The first time you're watching, it like, damn the second
- 50:59Speaker 6: time you watch, it you were.
- 51:01Speaker 3: Die, yes, yeah.
- 51:03Speaker 2: Yeah that is another thing, too BECAUSE i feel, like you,
- 51:07Speaker 2: know the gallows humor of like having to go through
- 51:11Speaker 2: like oppression for any, group, right not just black, people
- 51:14Speaker 2: any group like you.
- 51:16Speaker 1: Have like THAT'S i think it's fair to say that
- 51:19Speaker 1: that that's a lot of truth to why The jewish
- 51:21Speaker 1: community in The black community, right are so funny and
- 51:25Speaker 1: obviously art comes out of not always not always out of,
- 51:28Speaker 1: suffering but a lot of times out of suffering obviously
- 51:31Speaker 1: a lot of the best. ART i usually Think i'm
- 51:32Speaker 1: never gonna be a great comedian BECAUSE i had a
- 51:34Speaker 1: lot of privilege AND i had a good, childhood AND
- 51:35Speaker 1: i was always, LIKE i always felt Like i'm a good,
- 51:38Speaker 1: comedian But i'm not a great comedian BECAUSE i didn't
- 51:40Speaker 1: HAVE i wasn't. Molested you, KNOW i Watched Emmy norton
- 51:44Speaker 1: go up and talk about being. Molested nobody's like Dying
- 51:46Speaker 1: louvor suicide Or i'm just like all the, worse you,
- 51:49Speaker 1: Know BUT i think, that, yeah human suffering is where
- 51:52Speaker 1: a lot of times the lotus flower grows out of the,
- 51:55Speaker 1: mud and so did the, jokes and people have.
- 51:57Speaker 6: Studied that pretty.
- 51:58Speaker 1: Well but it's also like through solidarity, Too and you,
- 52:02Speaker 1: know that's like hanging out with all those black guys in,
- 52:04Speaker 1: College like they taught me a kind of humor and
- 52:08Speaker 1: a brand and almost a way to, laugh a way to,
- 52:11Speaker 1: react facial, expressions, noises you name, it AND i couldn't
- 52:16Speaker 1: LIKE i never wanted to, appropriate But i'm SURE.
- 52:20Speaker 6: I did, it And i'm SURE i do a little.
- 52:22Speaker 2: Bit BUT i, think like so appropriation has gotten like
- 52:26Speaker 2: a weird rep BECAUSE i DON'T i think some stuff isn't.
- 52:30Speaker 3: Appropriation it's like cross. CULTURAL i agree with.
- 52:33Speaker 6: YOU i agree with. YOU i mean LIKE i didn't
- 52:35Speaker 6: want to be appear to be.
- 52:38Speaker 2: Like you don't want to be like an art like
- 52:39Speaker 2: a cultural, archivist like Like Indiana jones of, Comedy like
- 52:43Speaker 2: you just show up and be, like, oh so, well
- 52:44Speaker 2: what y'all think is? Funny Are you're just writing in
- 52:46Speaker 2: this corner with a notepad.
- 52:50Speaker 6: From them and wear it if it wasn't, mine you, know?
- 52:52Speaker 3: Right what was that?
- 52:53Speaker 6: Great is THAT i.
- 52:56Speaker 1: Was this kind OF i wasn't myself such a. REDNECK
- 52:58Speaker 1: i was in between kind of. Like but but they
- 53:02Speaker 1: the WAY i dressed versus the way that all the
- 53:04Speaker 1: black eyes dressed in nineteen ninety five three to ninety
- 53:08Speaker 1: five WHEN i was in, college those guys all had
- 53:10Speaker 1: a very similar fashion with their.
- 53:12Speaker 6: Clothes LIKE i don't have to explain it to you or.
- 53:14Speaker 1: ANYBODY i was more, filthy tight all the, things my,
- 53:18Speaker 1: hats all my hats are all beata.
- 53:20Speaker 6: And like that gave them jokes every.
- 53:23Speaker 1: Day but also they also the rules were very quickly, established,
- 53:28Speaker 1: Right and that's WHY i was let.
- 53:29Speaker 6: In that's why you, KNOW i lived with them they.
- 53:31Speaker 1: Were my roommates AND i ate with them every, day
- 53:34Speaker 1: and they were BECAUSE i knew the, rules just LIKE.
- 53:37Speaker 2: I think a, big a big part of that two
- 53:39Speaker 2: IS i went after them.
- 53:41Speaker 3: Hard, YEAH i think a big part of that two,
- 53:44Speaker 3: is like.
- 53:46Speaker 2: There's this thing that happens where like some of my
- 53:49Speaker 2: favorite white people are just regular white. PEOPLE i don't
- 53:52Speaker 2: like the like it's like How eminem is respected in
- 53:56Speaker 2: rap Because eminem never really tried to be. Black eminem
- 53:59Speaker 2: is just about LIKE i fucking hate my mom And
- 54:02Speaker 2: i'm on these pills and you're, LIKE i don't even
- 54:04Speaker 2: relate to, this But i'm appreciate you staying in your
- 54:07Speaker 2: lane and you are fucking your.
- 54:09Speaker 5: Skill and my thing is he was authentic to hisself
- 54:11Speaker 5: and that's kind of all that.
- 54:13Speaker 2: Mattered and like when there would be a rap, battle
- 54:15Speaker 2: be for this black people with This eminem sometimes and
- 54:19Speaker 2: he come back, hard but it would you you respected
- 54:21Speaker 2: it because he wasn't like trying to come at it
- 54:23Speaker 2: from a lane of Like i'm a better black person than,
- 54:26Speaker 2: you which which can often be the like death. Knel
- 54:29Speaker 2: like that's the thing that will kill everything is WHEN
- 54:31Speaker 2: i remember once back WHEN i had white friends.
- 54:34Speaker 3: Uh this one dude told.
- 54:35Speaker 2: Me he was, like uh, hey Uh, rid you know, what,
- 54:40Speaker 2: Man i'm blacker than. You AND i was, like how?
- 54:43Speaker 2: So and he was, Like i've been to. JAIL i was,
- 54:45Speaker 2: like you stupid.
- 54:46Speaker 3: Motherfucker LIKE i was slapping ship out of. You what
- 54:52Speaker 3: are you talking? About he's, LIKE i probably have sex
- 54:55Speaker 3: with more black women than. YOU i was, like what is?
- 54:58Speaker 3: This what what does that? Mean what does that? Mean,
- 55:01Speaker 3: like let's talk about.
- 55:01Speaker 2: It AND i just made it get very LIKE i
- 55:04Speaker 2: JUST i could have bailed him out, laugh but INSTEAD
- 55:06Speaker 2: i just got very serious at the, table and so
- 55:09Speaker 2: it just got real, quiet and everybody's leaning forward waiting
- 55:11Speaker 2: for the, answer, like, Yeah, ben what does it mean
- 55:13Speaker 2: to go to jail and have sex makes you more?
- 55:15Speaker 2: Black and he's, like, oh never, MIND i was just.
- 55:17Speaker 2: Joking but if if you just kind of stay more
- 55:21Speaker 2: in your, lane, like there's a love of respect that
- 55:24Speaker 2: comes and a level acceptance that.
- 55:26Speaker 3: Comes that's WHY i say it's not really.
- 55:28Speaker 2: Appropriation it's like cross cultural exchange.
- 55:33Speaker 6: Exactly all, that and if you be, real you will be.
- 55:37Speaker 1: Respected and so when it came to, me hanging out
- 55:40Speaker 1: was not only a lot of black. Men there's a
- 55:41Speaker 1: lot of black. Women as a matter of, FACT i
- 55:42Speaker 1: JUST i just got together with five black women THAT
- 55:47Speaker 1: i went to college with and just me at a
- 55:49Speaker 1: house Of Martha's vineyard for a, weekend and it was
- 55:53Speaker 1: like one of the most we reconnected on the.
- 55:55Speaker 6: Way but the humor was back right away and to the,
- 55:58Speaker 6: point LIKE i was always just.
- 56:01Speaker 1: Me AND i think what was different from me with
- 56:03Speaker 1: humor WHEN i was with all those black folks in
- 56:05Speaker 1: the nineties WAS i was less inhibited.
- 56:09Speaker 6: Than, them the men.
- 56:10Speaker 1: ESPECIALLY i was a silly goose and the best thing
- 56:15Speaker 1: you could hear for, me the nicest comment Was, pete
- 56:18Speaker 1: you so stupid the.
- 56:19Speaker 6: Girl that's a. Compliment, yeah it was always a. Compliment
- 56:23Speaker 6: it was as an. Acceptance and you, know BUT i,
- 56:27Speaker 6: NEVER i, never.
- 56:28Speaker 1: You, know you talked about the guy that says he's
- 56:30Speaker 1: blacker than, you LIKE i did anti racist jokes with,
- 56:34Speaker 1: them OR i asked them ignorant questions to set them
- 56:38Speaker 1: up for a. Joke like one time we were like
- 56:40Speaker 1: walking back from cafeteria dorms nine of us AND i
- 56:45Speaker 1: finally just Go and there's always like like always In
- 56:47Speaker 1: alpha and he was my closest friend and the biggest,
- 56:51Speaker 1: guy AND i just my dad told me to make
- 56:52Speaker 1: friends with the biggest guy in, school and that will always.
- 56:54Speaker 1: Worked AND i said to, HIM i, go, hey his
- 56:56Speaker 1: name Is. TAEKWAN i, go, hey, man why do why
- 56:59Speaker 1: do black people walk so? Slow why are we walking so?
- 57:04Speaker 6: Slow it's? Cold it's?
- 57:05Speaker 1: Cold and he stopped like it should be in a
- 57:08Speaker 1: movie that she seems to be in a. Movie he
- 57:10Speaker 1: has stopped and everybody, stopped and he just looked at
- 57:12Speaker 1: me and he, goes why do white people walk so?
- 57:16Speaker 6: Fast?
- 57:16Speaker 1: Yeah and there was that was. All it was always
- 57:20Speaker 1: stuff like, that like about your friends Saying i'm blacker than.
- 57:25Speaker 1: YOU i was in LIKE i made like anti racist.
- 57:27Speaker 1: JOKES i don't know where this came, from BUT i
- 57:28Speaker 1: remember going to, him you are black and AND i am.
- 57:32Speaker 6: White you'll be blamed for a, CRIME i commit to night.
- 57:39Speaker 1: Hilarious doing stuff like that On they were just always
- 57:45Speaker 1: taking shots at each other in the most brutal, ways
- 57:47Speaker 1: and it was such An it was like an. Internship
- 57:50Speaker 1: it was like a cultural experience you could never. Design
- 57:53Speaker 1: BUT i give myself credit for diving into people who
- 57:56Speaker 1: weren't like, me always the case the gay, Community jewish.
- 57:59Speaker 1: Community i've always been more interested in them than the
- 58:01Speaker 1: PEOPLE i came. From to a certain, extent you're not
- 58:04Speaker 1: as interested in the people you come. From and to another,
- 58:06Speaker 1: extent white people.
- 58:07Speaker 6: Are they can be.
- 58:08Speaker 2: Boring, yeah well they're kind of, default, right salt and pepperty,
- 58:11Speaker 2: taste they're they're the you, know it's, like who doesn't
- 58:14Speaker 2: even for? Us, right we have to know white culture
- 58:17Speaker 2: to move in and out Of. America so it's like
- 58:21Speaker 2: it's like more of a survival, skill, like, yeah you gotta,
- 58:23Speaker 2: know you, know like you'll see this often with certain,
- 58:26Speaker 2: People like people will be, like you know the secret
- 58:28Speaker 2: to such and, such and like WHAT i know how
- 58:30Speaker 2: to talk to these white. People it's just, like hey,
- 58:32Speaker 2: man it's a valuable, skill but you, know it's not
- 58:35Speaker 2: necessarily something a white person has to have in other
- 58:39Speaker 2: areas unless they decide to go into those. Areas like you,
- 58:42Speaker 2: like if you just, Decide i'm staying in my.
- 58:44Speaker 3: Pond i'm never.
- 58:45Speaker 2: LEAVING i can be a mainstream success without ever really
- 58:49Speaker 2: trying to explore other.
- 58:51Speaker 3: Areas but once, again once you step out of.
- 58:54Speaker 2: Those, areas it does behoove you to know how to
- 58:57Speaker 2: talk to other people.
- 59:01Speaker 1: The simplest way to illustrate what you just said is
- 59:05Speaker 1: we could you could do a segment as guests on
- 59:08Speaker 1: my show WHERE i take callers and, say ask black
- 59:11Speaker 1: people a, question and white people would call in and
- 59:13Speaker 1: ask all.
- 59:14Speaker 6: Kinds of, fun, ignorant maybe racist.
- 59:16Speaker 1: Questions but you would never be me on your show
- 59:20Speaker 1: and be, like black people ask white people a? Questions
- 59:23Speaker 1: could you already know the answer than we? Do you
- 59:27Speaker 1: know the answer better than we do about. Us if
- 59:31Speaker 1: you were, like do white people watch their? Legs i'd be, LIKE, i,
- 59:34Speaker 1: HONESTLY i don't. Know IF i don't, know, yeah the
- 59:39Speaker 1: answer is, no you missed.
- 59:40Speaker 2: It just because you wash your legs doesn't, Okay we've.
- 59:45Speaker 1: Done black people have to know if you're the we're
- 59:49Speaker 1: not supposed use to the word.
- 59:50Speaker 6: Minority i'm toldy.
- 59:50Speaker 1: More but if you're the minority in a, room you
- 59:53Speaker 1: need to be able to protect. Yourself so you need
- 59:55Speaker 1: to know who's in the room and what they might.
- 59:57Speaker 1: Do women know more about, Men black people know more
- 59:59Speaker 1: about white people to protect themselves from generations of.
- 1:00:05Speaker 6: PREDATION i, MEAN i don't think that's breaking any new.
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: GROUND i don't think that's a genius, thing BUT i
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: think it's it's why you would never be, LIKE.
- 1:00:11Speaker 6: I don't know about these white. PEOPLE i just don't
- 1:00:13Speaker 6: understand white.
- 1:00:13Speaker 2: People but white people are also mean to white people
- 1:00:16Speaker 2: in a way that's so. Weird like as a white,
- 1:00:18Speaker 2: Dude i'm sure you've experienced this or at least seen.
- 1:00:21Speaker 2: It but it's like the dude that gets drunk around
- 1:00:23Speaker 2: the homies and they're just, like, uh fold them, up
- 1:00:26Speaker 2: throw them in the, fridge.
- 1:00:27Speaker 3: Whatever god dick on his.
- 1:00:28Speaker 4: Face.
- 1:00:29Speaker 2: Wow back WHEN i had white, FRIENDS i remember one
- 1:00:31Speaker 2: time they sent me a picture on my phone of
- 1:00:34Speaker 2: one of the. Homies, uh and he was but ass,
- 1:00:37Speaker 2: naked folded, up sat into a sink and like drawing
- 1:00:44Speaker 2: on and they sent it to me like ha, Ha
- 1:00:47Speaker 2: AND i was, like is he?
- 1:00:49Speaker 3: Okay where's?
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: He?
- 1:00:50Speaker 2: He?
- 1:00:50Speaker 3: Do we need to go get? Him and they're, like,
- 1:00:52Speaker 3: no it's fucking. FUNNY i was, like who did this to?
- 1:00:54Speaker 3: Him and they're, like we.
- 1:00:55Speaker 4: Did it was, like, fuck y'all, right that's that's not.
- 1:00:59Speaker 6: Funny my friend got.
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: Drunk he had a bad issue with the. Alcohol he
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: would drink you pass. Out we did a lot of
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: camping and, drinking and so we stood him up against
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: the tree and we duc taked him to the, tree
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: and then of course.
- 1:01:15Speaker 6: The obligatory white guy think we drew a deck in his.
- 1:01:17Speaker 6: Face that's kind of. Me and then we took A.
- 1:01:20Speaker 4: Why is that a? Culture i've never understood. That do
- 1:01:24Speaker 4: you do this? Right i'm, like that's supposed to.
- 1:01:26Speaker 2: Be, listen what happens when you don't have apex? Predators
- 1:01:30Speaker 2: you just start doing weird shit to each other because you,
- 1:01:32Speaker 2: like no what we're we're enforcing our own, rules like
- 1:01:35Speaker 2: polar bears.
- 1:01:36Speaker 6: BLACK i would say that black humor the JOKE i.
- 1:01:40Speaker 6: HAD i had a fun argument With Van, nathan you, Know,
- 1:01:45Speaker 6: Lathan Yeah nathan about.
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: THIS i, said black comedy is meaner than white. Comedy
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: it is much. Meaner he disagrees with. Me and but
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: what you're saying is, like why do white guys do
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: that to each? Other it's a white guy thing, more
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: but it's a white thing pranks and stuff like.
- 1:01:58Speaker 6: That AND i don't know if this is along those,
- 1:02:01Speaker 6: lines but All i'll say.
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: About black culture or black people is they don't like
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: that very. Much and to a certain. Extent let's get
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: to specifically eating in. Food so there we, Were i'm,
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: eighteen sitting next to this guy grew up in The
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: bronx around almost entirely black, people AND i reached onto
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: his tray to take some of his, food to take
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: A french, fry and.
- 1:02:27Speaker 6: Do you know what he?
- 1:02:28Speaker 3: Did slapped your hand?
- 1:02:29Speaker 6: Away worse what not as? Bad spit in the? Food
- 1:02:36Speaker 6: what do you? Do stab my hand with his.
- 1:02:38Speaker 3: Fork, okay that's, okay that'll teach into.
- 1:02:42Speaker 6: FOOD i will say.
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: This, then all those black guys did have a prank
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: that wouldn't work on white people because we wouldn't. Care
- 1:02:52Speaker 1: but the prank was. This when you got your, food
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: usually your dessert at the cafeteria in the dorm at,
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: college you'd sit down a piece of. Cake one guy
- 1:02:59Speaker 1: would have his finger into the, cake and then the
- 1:03:02Speaker 1: guy couldn't eat. IT i would not happen to a
- 1:03:05Speaker 1: white guy if you jammed your finger into my, CAKE
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: i would be LIKE i WOULD i would just be,
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: like eat.
- 1:03:10Speaker 6: IT i would.
- 1:03:11Speaker 2: See, WELL i THINK i think the thing with white
- 1:03:15Speaker 2: comedy and mean IS i feel LIKE i feel like
- 1:03:19Speaker 2: white comedy is mean to people who aren't in the.
- 1:03:22Speaker 2: ROOM i feel like black comedy everybody in the room
- 1:03:25Speaker 2: is on the menu like.
- 1:03:26Speaker 3: That and that's the that's the.
- 1:03:27Speaker 2: Rule that's the. Deal like we can fuck everybody up in.
- 1:03:31Speaker 2: Here like the amount of times you watched like Either
- 1:03:35Speaker 2: Deaf Comedy jam or you go to a comedy club
- 1:03:37Speaker 2: and you just, realize oh, Shit i'm on the menu
- 1:03:41Speaker 2: like these like like they're looking around the room like
- 1:03:43Speaker 2: and look at this. Motherfucker you're, Like god. DAMN i
- 1:03:46Speaker 2: did not want to be part of.
- 1:03:48Speaker 1: THIS i mean the great talking about in, COLLEGE i
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: mean that's WHERE i learned. That but then sitting at
- 1:03:55Speaker 1: the table at the comedy cellar With patresea O'Neill And
- 1:03:58Speaker 1: Keith robinson and AND i MEAN i could just name,
- 1:04:01Speaker 1: it you.
- 1:04:03Speaker 6: KNOW i mean When Kevin hart.
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: Started Kevin hart used to come up From philadelphia With
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: Big Jay operson and you come in to comedy. Club
- 1:04:08Speaker 1: we every knew he's, funny and but he was obvious
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: as you, know he's. Tiny he would get roasted By
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: patrice was, huge and so many other kind of everybody
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: and we all would and it was just it was
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: always a firing, squad and you, know whatever your insecurity,
- 1:04:22Speaker 1: was that's what they were coming. For LIKE i Remember
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: college's tall BLACK i couldn't. DUNK i thought he was
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: going to kill himself with the, insults but they were.
- 1:04:32Speaker 2: Buddy, yeah, racism we love.
- 1:04:37Speaker 3: It it's given us so.
- 1:04:40Speaker 6: Much.
- 1:04:41Speaker 2: Uh, now what about with politics and, comedy BECAUSE i feel, like,
- 1:04:46Speaker 2: uh there's definitely been a tightening of the like political
- 1:04:50Speaker 2: like what what what can we?
- 1:04:51Speaker 4: Love we're doing?
- 1:04:52Speaker 3: Here like don't you?
- 1:04:54Speaker 2: Know over the, Years AND i think a lot of
- 1:04:56Speaker 2: that's because the advent of social. MEDIA i always THINK
- 1:04:58Speaker 2: i always say bloggers and stand up comedians were like
- 1:05:02Speaker 2: the worst fucking Ben diagram to ever, meet because it's
- 1:05:05Speaker 2: like two myopic people that are, like only my point
- 1:05:08Speaker 2: of view is, valid and then they're both just shitting
- 1:05:11Speaker 2: on each other and it JUST i feel like that
- 1:05:13Speaker 2: just bloomed into the Entire internet, now and that's kind
- 1:05:16Speaker 2: of like a lot of the. Culture it's definitely not
- 1:05:19Speaker 2: that way in the, room, Right, so like you go
- 1:05:21Speaker 2: to a stand up comedy special or just, whatever just
- 1:05:24Speaker 2: stand up comedy in your, area it doesn't feel like.
- 1:05:27Speaker 2: That it's not tight like. That but a lot of
- 1:05:30Speaker 2: the way we consume comedy now is not in the room.
- 1:05:33Speaker 2: Anymore it's for everyone outside the. Room so like going
- 1:05:36Speaker 2: into politics after coming out of, comedy did you feel
- 1:05:40Speaker 2: that tightening do you feel it loosening it?
- 1:05:43Speaker 3: Back is like how does it feel to you?
- 1:05:45Speaker 6: Now?
- 1:05:47Speaker 1: Ah such a really important question and end conversation to.
- 1:05:52Speaker 1: Have BUT i MEAN i generally have always felt like
- 1:05:54Speaker 1: a lot of that has been. OVERBLOWN i feel like
- 1:05:59Speaker 1: the main prime rule of comedy is still the, truth
- 1:06:03Speaker 1: which is don't punch. Down the greats didn't really do.
- 1:06:08Speaker 1: That you, Know George carlin didn't go after vulnerable. Communities you,
- 1:06:13Speaker 1: Know Richard pryor didn't go after your own. People you can,
- 1:06:17Speaker 1: say you, can you can punch down to a certain,
- 1:06:18Speaker 1: extent make a funny, joke but like you, know partying,
- 1:06:22Speaker 1: Today like there's so many comedians like going after trans.
- 1:06:25Speaker 1: People it's so LIKE i find that so uninteresting and
- 1:06:30Speaker 1: almost always not funny because if you just knew anything
- 1:06:33Speaker 1: about the, transmmunity you, know like a lot of them
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: are really really struggling and suicidal the suicide. Rates it's,
- 1:06:41Speaker 1: like why would you go after our, community who you,
- 1:06:42Speaker 1: know like is has a lot of suicidal, ideation or
- 1:06:46Speaker 1: going after.
- 1:06:47Speaker 6: Like the gay community and making gay.
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: Jokes like WHEN i started as a comedy a, COMEDIAN
- 1:06:51Speaker 1: i didn't even like to put like my then girlfriend
- 1:06:54Speaker 1: and then wife THAT i.
- 1:06:55Speaker 6: Never punched down at.
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: Her my jokes were about me being like, short my
- 1:07:01Speaker 1: shortcomings in the, marriage poor, her she has to deal with.
- 1:07:05Speaker 1: Me BECAUSE i just felt like that kind of overt
- 1:07:07Speaker 1: sexism of male comedians some about their, WIVES i just
- 1:07:12Speaker 1: felt like that was over and SO i just never
- 1:07:15Speaker 1: was really impressed with. That SO i think like the
- 1:07:17Speaker 1: that whole idea of punching down and punching, UP i
- 1:07:19Speaker 1: still feel.
- 1:07:20Speaker 6: Like that should be the.
- 1:07:21Speaker 1: Rule there are exceptions of, sexism and racism can be.
- 1:07:25Speaker 1: Funny The holocaust could be, funny cancer can be anything
- 1:07:28Speaker 1: can be. Funny if it's done the right way by
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: the right, person that might be. Home BUT i think
- 1:07:34Speaker 1: that you need to know who you are and who
- 1:07:36Speaker 1: you're talking to and who your audience, is and not
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: all comedy obviously has a political.
- 1:07:42Speaker 6: BENT a lot of, it doesn't you.
- 1:07:43Speaker 1: Know ard Of George carland's act was fart jokes and
- 1:07:46Speaker 1: observational humor and and and and jokes on, language brilliant
- 1:07:49Speaker 1: jokes on, language and then a lot of the other
- 1:07:52Speaker 1: stuff with social and culture and. Political but it depends
- 1:07:55Speaker 1: on who you are and how you fashion. Yourself but
- 1:07:57Speaker 1: it has really interestingly changed in terms of like from
- 1:08:00Speaker 1: liberal to, conservative the left of the right in the,
- 1:08:02Speaker 1: spectrum in terms of what we.
- 1:08:04Speaker 6: Laugh, at what we're allowed to laugh, at, Right.
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: AND i think the one thing that is so often
- 1:08:09Speaker 1: we believe narratives because they seem to. Fit but like
- 1:08:13Speaker 1: the idea that liberals are more, sensitive it is probably
- 1:08:18Speaker 1: true in a lot of, ways at least in that
- 1:08:20Speaker 1: we care about.
- 1:08:21Speaker 6: Strangers.
- 1:08:22Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah it's like When Rob reiner died and people were,
- 1:08:27Speaker 2: LIKE i didn't agree with his, politics but let me
- 1:08:29Speaker 2: And i'm like his politics of.
- 1:08:31Speaker 3: Inclusion, diversity, care.
- 1:08:34Speaker 2: Empathy you should kind of be a little bit ashamed
- 1:08:38Speaker 2: to say that part out. Loud you should just go
- 1:08:39Speaker 2: straight to the, like, man it's sad that he's. Dead
- 1:08:42Speaker 2: you should just skip that part ABOUT i didn't like
- 1:08:45Speaker 2: that he.
- 1:08:45Speaker 3: Was like such a nice. GUY i wanted everyone to have.
- 1:08:47Speaker 3: Equality that was kind of.
- 1:08:48Speaker 1: CRAZY i just think that the difference Between, yeah it's,
- 1:08:53Speaker 1: ridiculous the difference between like a liberal and conservative comedian
- 1:08:55Speaker 1: to a certain extent or.
- 1:08:57Speaker 6: Person, yeah when it comes To, county it's like they
- 1:08:59Speaker 6: can't laugh at. Themselves no they.
- 1:09:01Speaker 5: Can't and a lot of the you don't have a
- 1:09:03Speaker 5: sense of. Humor they're like like they, Trumper LIKE.
- 1:09:06Speaker 6: I had a. Trumper come, on you, know some maga
- 1:09:09Speaker 6: guy in the live.
- 1:09:10Speaker 1: CHAT i was doing A i think it's WITH, jl
- 1:09:13Speaker 1: and some guy in the comments said some. Nonsense but
- 1:09:17Speaker 1: then he said some stupid maga. Nonsense but then he called.
- 1:09:20Speaker 1: Me he SAID i look like a baby, hamster AND
- 1:09:25Speaker 1: i was, like, Funny.
- 1:09:27Speaker 6: YEAH i. DO i.
- 1:09:29Speaker 1: Do, LOOK i do think that about. MYSELF i do
- 1:09:32Speaker 1: think that's. FUNNY i can laugh at that.
- 1:09:34Speaker 6: Joke which is a direct insult HOW i, look AND
- 1:09:37Speaker 6: i think it's. Funny so you can definitely make fun
- 1:09:39Speaker 6: of my. Beliefs you can make fun of all kinds
- 1:09:42Speaker 6: of things about.
- 1:09:42Speaker 1: Me And i'm able to laugh at myself BECAUSE A
- 1:09:44Speaker 1: i'm confident BE I i don't take myself so. Serious
- 1:09:47Speaker 1: but those, guys they they can't laugh at. Themselves they
- 1:09:50Speaker 1: that's why also why.
- 1:09:51Speaker 6: They're not very.
- 1:09:52Speaker 1: Funny they're not very many conservative comedians are very funny at.
- 1:09:56Speaker 2: All it's much more like cultural, signifying, Right like it's
- 1:09:59Speaker 2: a lot of a lot of the conservative stand up
- 1:10:02Speaker 2: now is very much like because we all agree on
- 1:10:05Speaker 2: and it's a premise that only if you're in like
- 1:10:07Speaker 2: a certain circle of the, world would you be, like
- 1:10:10Speaker 2: this premise makes. Sense so if you're, like, look, man
- 1:10:14Speaker 2: these trans people are shooting up.
- 1:10:15Speaker 3: Schools there's no factual basis for that. Joke but if
- 1:10:21Speaker 3: you're in.
- 1:10:21Speaker 2: A certain of a certain belief system and you're in that,
- 1:10:23Speaker 2: room you're, like we are going with that. Premise now
- 1:10:27Speaker 2: you make the funny joke about trans people shooting up
- 1:10:29Speaker 2: schools where even though it's not fucking, true and that
- 1:10:32Speaker 2: does suck because it feels like they have taken the
- 1:10:37Speaker 2: universal appeal of what comedy is supposed to.
- 1:10:39Speaker 3: Do they just kind of bastardize. It like it's LIKE
- 1:10:43Speaker 3: i prefer that even if you.
- 1:10:45Speaker 2: FAIL i prefer you're attempting to make us all. Lad i'm, like,
- 1:10:49Speaker 2: hey it's. Hard it's not an easy, job BUT i
- 1:10:52Speaker 2: understand the attempt when you're like, BOOM i said this. Thing,
- 1:10:55Speaker 2: fuck it didn't, work as opposed to JUST i know
- 1:10:58Speaker 2: this joke is not that, funny BUT i know it'll
- 1:11:01Speaker 2: work because the people in this room want it to
- 1:11:04Speaker 2: work more than they wanted to be.
- 1:11:05Speaker 1: Funny the rules are the, Rules LIKE i, said you
- 1:11:09Speaker 1: can make comedians and satirists and everybody you know the
- 1:11:12Speaker 1: rules are.
- 1:11:14Speaker 6: Anything so the example that you gave is a tough
- 1:11:17Speaker 6: one to make. Funny school shooting tough to make.
- 1:11:20Speaker 1: Funny BUT i will help you and everybody who wants
- 1:11:22Speaker 1: to think about making a. Joke if you want to
- 1:11:24Speaker 1: make a joke about school, shooting best to make it,
- 1:11:27Speaker 1: truest which is about a white. Guy those are the
- 1:11:30Speaker 1: jokes about school shootings that. Work it's why is it
- 1:11:32Speaker 1: always a white? Guy why is it always a white?
- 1:11:34Speaker 1: Guy it's always you, Know and and that's.
- 1:11:37Speaker 6: Where the comedy and that.
- 1:11:38Speaker 1: Subject there's not a lot of, it but if you
- 1:11:40Speaker 1: want to find, it it's in why is it white?
- 1:11:42Speaker 6: Guy lots of comedians are doing that?
- 1:11:44Speaker 2: Joke, Right, yeah it's the people that GO i pick on,
- 1:11:48Speaker 2: Everybody And i'm, like not a lot of dead cop
- 1:11:51Speaker 2: comedians out, here not a lot of not a lot
- 1:11:54Speaker 2: of motherfucker's making that premise work. Hard, Yeah no one
- 1:11:57Speaker 2: picks on. Everybody you pick on war jokes out? Here come, on,
- 1:12:02Speaker 2: now get, soldiers what are you?
- 1:12:04Speaker 4: Doing you want to?
- 1:12:05Speaker 3: Leave you want to leave the fucking you want to
- 1:12:07Speaker 3: leave the room, alive.
- 1:12:08Speaker 6: Bitch alex soldiers or?
- 1:12:11Speaker 2: Don't speaking of, which, man how'd you meet jail covid,
- 1:12:16Speaker 2: Man how how did because we are meeting you through, jail,
- 1:12:20Speaker 2: yes which is uh probably the first positive thing.
- 1:12:24Speaker 3: That's happened through us knowing. Jail so how did how
- 1:12:27Speaker 3: did you meet a stand up?
- 1:12:29Speaker 1: COMEDY i was probably five, six maybe a few your
- 1:12:32Speaker 1: few years more ahead of, him and.
- 1:12:35Speaker 6: You, KNOW i, started meaning like five or ten years
- 1:12:38Speaker 6: maybe even ahead.
- 1:12:39Speaker 1: HIM i THINK i recognized his talent right, away AND
- 1:12:42Speaker 1: i also recognize his, character and we became.
- 1:12:44Speaker 6: Friends LIKE i like this. GUY i think he's, funny
- 1:12:47Speaker 6: he's helpful to.
- 1:12:47Speaker 1: Me I'm i'm gonna help. Him and ALSO i, think
- 1:12:51Speaker 1: IF i, THINK i probably had him open for me
- 1:12:53Speaker 1: a lot of a lot of, events or at least
- 1:12:55Speaker 1: a few BECAUSE i recognized how funny he wasn't, be
- 1:12:58Speaker 1: how smart he wasn't for. ME i wanted to give
- 1:13:00Speaker 1: opportunities to all kinds of, people but IF i was
- 1:13:05Speaker 1: gonna be on the road with, somebody or If i'd
- 1:13:07Speaker 1: be doing a gig with, somebody in a car with,
- 1:13:08Speaker 1: SOMEBODY i wanted it to be with somebody who, is you,
- 1:13:11Speaker 1: know better than. Me in, general those are my. Friends
- 1:13:13Speaker 1: they're better than. Me their, character their, intellect their. HUMOR
- 1:13:17Speaker 1: i Think jail's better than me in all those, ways
- 1:13:20Speaker 1: and SO i probably you know THAT'S i gravitated towards,
- 1:13:24Speaker 1: him AND i always just thought he was, underrated still
- 1:13:28Speaker 1: do and always wanted to promote.
- 1:13:30Speaker 6: Him he's always good to come on my.
- 1:13:31Speaker 1: Show he always knocks it out of the park then and,
- 1:13:33Speaker 1: now and SO i JUST i love, HIM i admire.
- 1:13:36Speaker 1: HIM i feel bad for him when he's in, pain
- 1:13:39Speaker 1: which is most of the.
- 1:13:40Speaker 3: Time when is he not in?
- 1:13:42Speaker 2: Pain in one, question Like karen always tried when he
- 1:13:45Speaker 2: comes on, Here karen tries to like fix, Him i'm just, like,
- 1:13:49Speaker 2: no let.
- 1:13:50Speaker 4: Him i'm, SORRY i let you stay.
- 1:13:52Speaker 2: Broken he needs the misery in the way that Like
- 1:13:55Speaker 2: Michael jordan made up that people used to talk bad about,
- 1:13:58Speaker 2: him and then later we will find out in the,
- 1:14:01Speaker 2: documentary like that guy never even said that shit To Michael.
- 1:14:03Speaker 2: Jordan Michael jordan fucking made up that that guy called
- 1:14:06Speaker 2: him a piece of shit just so he could put
- 1:14:08Speaker 2: fifty points on.
- 1:14:08Speaker 3: HIM i feel like That's.
- 1:14:10Speaker 2: Jail you just gotta let him cook and then eventually
- 1:14:13Speaker 2: life will throw him from curve balls and a little
- 1:14:15Speaker 2: great great comedy out of.
- 1:14:16Speaker 3: It and that's What i'm in it. For, okay good.
- 1:14:19Speaker 4: Comedy, Yes i'll get.
- 1:14:21Speaker 2: Excited WHEN i hear something bad happen In New. Jersey i'm, like,
- 1:14:23Speaker 2: ooh a train was. Late all, right let me turn
- 1:14:26Speaker 2: into the, podcast see what's going on over.
- 1:14:29Speaker 6: THERE i, MEAN i think he's happiest when he's making people.
- 1:14:33Speaker 6: Laugh that's what damn. Sure if you've seen him performing
- 1:14:35Speaker 6: live and seeing him killing, like he also is happiest to.
- 1:14:39Speaker 1: Laugh he's happy To he's as happy to appreciate your
- 1:14:42Speaker 1: joke as he is to make a.
- 1:14:44Speaker 6: Joke he loves.
- 1:14:46Speaker 1: Humor and, comedy especially when it's good and when it's.
- 1:14:48Speaker 1: ORIGINAL i think he's probably happy when he's around his.
- 1:14:52Speaker 6: Dogs he seems to really like a. Girl he has
- 1:14:56Speaker 6: moments of.
- 1:14:57Speaker 1: JOY i wish for him and for all of us,
- 1:15:00Speaker 1: to you, know have more moments of. Joy BUT i
- 1:15:02Speaker 1: think it's important to recognize that life is filled with.
- 1:15:04Speaker 1: Suffering it's mostly suffering a lot of. It so when
- 1:15:07Speaker 1: you find the, joy it's awesome and and get to.
- 1:15:09Speaker 1: It that's my practice and certain Imit's, buddhism and that's
- 1:15:13Speaker 1: that's WHY, i you, know focus ON i try to
- 1:15:15Speaker 1: spread that to. Him BUT i, also you, know try
- 1:15:18Speaker 1: to get get him to leave That catholic. Church but
- 1:15:20Speaker 1: he's he's the real deal.
- 1:15:22Speaker 6: And that he he, yeah.
- 1:15:26Speaker 1: HE i Mean i've seen him and know a lot
- 1:15:28Speaker 1: of things he does privately that are part OF i
- 1:15:32Speaker 1: think influenced.
- 1:15:33Speaker 6: At least by his.
- 1:15:34Speaker 1: FAITH i like to THINK i do similar things and
- 1:15:36Speaker 1: don't have to be a member of an institution that
- 1:15:38Speaker 1: is protects.
- 1:15:38Speaker 2: Pedophiles, saying but, well you, know, look some people need
- 1:15:43Speaker 2: to you, know they need to fight to fight the
- 1:15:46Speaker 2: system from the, INSIDE i, guess BUT i prefer to
- 1:15:49Speaker 2: be on the, outside like to be part of.
- 1:15:51Speaker 6: The church that would allow my daughter to rise to
- 1:15:54Speaker 6: a position of. Leadership that would be, nice you.
- 1:15:56Speaker 3: Know just, basically we weren't patting the pope on the
- 1:15:59Speaker 3: back for being Like. Gabe they are, right.
- 1:16:02Speaker 4: Like what.
- 1:16:05Speaker 3: Human, yeah, Listen i'm Aw i'm a different type of. Pope.
- 1:16:09Speaker 2: OKAY i take the money from the gay, People i'll
- 1:16:11Speaker 2: take the money from the straight.
- 1:16:12Speaker 3: PEOPLE i don't give a. Fuck black people bring the.
- 1:16:15Speaker 2: Money we need ten percent of. Everything but but it, is,
- 1:16:19Speaker 2: uh it is funny that to see him like earnestly
- 1:16:24Speaker 2: running for office like cause, like on the one, Hand i'm, Like,
- 1:16:28Speaker 2: damn this dude is so funny and he's such a
- 1:16:31Speaker 2: but also like he's such a he's so.
- 1:16:35Speaker 3: Used to running up against this brick wall of.
- 1:16:37Speaker 2: Comedy yes THAT i feel like politics can't be that
- 1:16:41Speaker 2: much harder than ever brickwall than what he's already been.
- 1:16:45Speaker 2: DOING i feel like him coming up to people Called
- 1:16:47Speaker 2: turkey to, say sign this, petition how's that different than
- 1:16:51Speaker 2: A bringer?
- 1:16:51Speaker 3: SHOW i think he was built for.
- 1:16:52Speaker 1: THIS i think THAT i think that there's been parts
- 1:16:56Speaker 1: of his career that are obviously really his impressions have
- 1:17:01Speaker 1: gotten him a lot more attention than his stand up
- 1:17:04Speaker 1: and it's it's only because like he's not for enough.
- 1:17:08Speaker 6: People it's not because he's not, funny it's not because
- 1:17:10Speaker 6: he's not.
- 1:17:10Speaker 1: Brilliant it's like there are certain people who always have
- 1:17:13Speaker 1: smaller cult followings because you, know they don't have that
- 1:17:16Speaker 1: kind of universal. Appeal and part of that is because
- 1:17:18Speaker 1: he's so. SMART a lot of his jokes are too
- 1:17:21Speaker 1: high prow for a larger mass audience and, appeal and
- 1:17:25Speaker 1: his style and his demeanor and a lot of those.
- 1:17:27Speaker 1: Things but, also And i've always said, this you, know
- 1:17:30Speaker 1: at his, part he's a public.
- 1:17:32Speaker 6: Servant he's always done.
- 1:17:34Speaker 1: Service acts of service as a volunteer as a student
- 1:17:40Speaker 1: for all different kinds of, communities and that's what he's doing,
- 1:17:44Speaker 1: now this nonprofit that he's working in to fight homelessness and.
- 1:17:46Speaker 1: Eviction and that's why he went to law, school and
- 1:17:49Speaker 1: that's what his family brought him up to. Be is you,
- 1:17:52Speaker 1: Know dad was very influence on. Him and you, KNOW
- 1:17:55Speaker 1: i THINK i think that this is really suited for.
- 1:17:58Speaker 1: Him AND i think in This Dan angel politics where
- 1:18:02Speaker 1: you need people who can fight and can, banter who
- 1:18:04Speaker 1: can you, know that's he's the kind of person you.
- 1:18:07Speaker 1: Need you need people who are good performers and who
- 1:18:09Speaker 1: are good fighters and who are.
- 1:18:11Speaker 6: Smart he's all those. Things And New jersey's eleventh district
- 1:18:15Speaker 6: would be real lucky to have him. Represented.
- 1:18:17Speaker 2: ABSOLUTELY i think so. Too LIKE i definitely agree with
- 1:18:19Speaker 2: the fighter part.
- 1:18:20Speaker 6: Too.
- 1:18:20Speaker 2: Man i'm really focused on that in twenty twenty six
- 1:18:23Speaker 2: Because I'm i'm tired of arguing with people over degrees
- 1:18:27Speaker 2: of difference on the.
- 1:18:28Speaker 3: Left it's it's so.
- 1:18:29Speaker 2: Fruitless we're not getting much out of it except eroding
- 1:18:33Speaker 2: the goodwill we have for each.
- 1:18:34Speaker 3: Other, YES i Think.
- 1:18:37Speaker 2: I'm just gonna practice the next year is just when
- 1:18:40Speaker 2: somebody says something AND i would have normally been, like,
- 1:18:43Speaker 2: well wouldn't it be, Better i'm just gonna be, LIKE
- 1:18:44Speaker 2: i don't know you're, gonna but you're gonna vote for
- 1:18:46Speaker 2: The democrat when it's time to.
- 1:18:47Speaker 3: Vote fuck?
- 1:18:48Speaker 6: It no.
- 1:18:48Speaker 2: COOL i, Like i'm tired of arguing about shit that's
- 1:18:53Speaker 2: just Not it's, like ultimately it would be a luxury
- 1:18:57Speaker 2: for it to, matter but we need to get in
- 1:18:58Speaker 2: a position to be in a, luxury like to have
- 1:19:01Speaker 2: that luxury of, like, no seventeen dollar minimum, wage rather
- 1:19:05Speaker 2: than starting with this motherfucker says sixteen dollar minimum, Wage
- 1:19:10Speaker 2: i'm staying, Home, like we gotta figure a way out
- 1:19:13Speaker 2: of that part so we can get to this other.
- 1:19:16Speaker 6: PART i fully agree with.
- 1:19:18Speaker 1: THAT i would only add along the line that's like,
- 1:19:21Speaker 1: politics LIKE i have lost my patience with at least
- 1:19:24Speaker 1: certain people in certain. Situations i'll say around scientific, consensus
- 1:19:31Speaker 1: specifically obviously Climate i've never had any patience for people's
- 1:19:34Speaker 1: skepticism about the.
- 1:19:36Speaker 6: Census consensus around climate, change but specifically on the. VACCINES
- 1:19:41Speaker 6: i was talking to a friend of, mine a guy
- 1:19:43Speaker 6: hadn't talked to in.
- 1:19:43Speaker 1: Years GUY i used to be really good friends with
- 1:19:46Speaker 1: the colleagues with work in, media did.
- 1:19:48Speaker 6: A lot of good things for.
- 1:19:49Speaker 1: Me but he also looked up to me and admired,
- 1:19:51Speaker 1: me and SO i decided when he was said some
- 1:19:54Speaker 1: ignorant nonsense about, VACCINES i was just, Like he's, like
- 1:19:57Speaker 1: we just had our. Daughter you just had a. KID

- 1:20:05Speaker 1: about the? Vaccines it's like What he's, LIKE i don't.
- 1:20:06Speaker 1: Think we're not gonna do. Them we're not gonna do
- 1:20:08Speaker 1: them all at.
- 1:20:08Speaker 6: Once.
- 1:20:08Speaker 1: Whatever so myra this, time because of who he was
- 1:20:11Speaker 1: in my life and because of what his background, does

- 1:20:41Speaker 6: Variable do you know how many studies they were on
- 1:20:43Speaker 6: that one?
- 1:20:45Speaker 1: Studies do you know any of the words That i'm
- 1:20:46Speaker 1: saying BECAUSE i just learned him from a guy who does,
- 1:20:48Speaker 1: RESEARCH i don't know you, stupid fuck.
- 1:20:51Speaker 2: STUPID i feel LIKE i, uh and it seems like

- 1:21:02Speaker 2: hyper vigilance part THAT i try to keep in, check
- 1:21:06Speaker 2: but it pops out like that because and it's it
- 1:21:09Speaker 2: pops out more with IF i care about, you like
- 1:21:12Speaker 2: like IF i, don't IF i, don't like If i'm
- 1:21:14Speaker 2: at the basketball court you say some ignorant shit or,
- 1:21:16Speaker 2: whatever it's, LIKE i don't know this. Motherfucker but if
- 1:21:19Speaker 2: it's like my brother and he's, like, Yeah i'm not

- 1:21:24Speaker 2: CRANGE i, can't LIKE i can't stop myself from. It
- 1:21:28Speaker 2: AND i think that does come from being a nerdy
- 1:21:31Speaker 2: kid that got picked on and and and all that
- 1:21:34Speaker 2: type of shit, Too like it's still in me to this,
- 1:21:37Speaker 2: day like like there's, times matter of, fact my friend
- 1:21:42Speaker 2: justin one of my best. Friends we became cool because
- 1:21:46Speaker 2: we were playing basketball against these guys and the guy
- 1:21:50Speaker 2: goes to Insult justin and he Called justine he's some
- 1:21:54Speaker 2: form of like. GAY i don't think it was a,
- 1:21:56Speaker 2: slur but it was like the implication Is justin is.
- 1:21:58Speaker 2: Gay and we're in the middle of the game and
- 1:22:01Speaker 2: we just stopped the clock AND i was just, like,
- 1:22:03Speaker 2: so what would be the problem if he was? Gay it's, like,
- 1:22:07Speaker 2: man just you, know, man just check.
- 1:22:08Speaker 3: Up, man that's just we're like.
- 1:22:10Speaker 2: No but like like so if he was, gay like
- 1:22:12Speaker 2: what he he wouldn't be as good at basketball or.
- 1:22:15Speaker 2: Whatever and everybody's like take the ball, up just fucking
- 1:22:17Speaker 2: play the.
- 1:22:18Speaker 3: Ball AND i was, like, nah but it's serious because
- 1:22:20Speaker 3: like why would you do?
- 1:22:20Speaker 2: That and like another, time there were these two girls
- 1:22:23Speaker 2: that waited all day to play with us and all the.
- 1:22:26Speaker 3: Guys there's like ten guys and they're just, like.
- 1:22:29Speaker 2: Nah, man we got, ten AND i was, like, well
- 1:22:31Speaker 2: the girls have next, Right, no they can't, play. MAN
- 1:22:34Speaker 2: i was, like they're gonna play or no one's gonna, play,
- 1:22:38Speaker 2: Right and it's LIKE i part of me is like
- 1:22:42Speaker 2: life would be fucking easier if that didn't. Exist in,
- 1:22:45Speaker 2: Me but it'd be harder for, them, right it'd be
- 1:22:47Speaker 2: harder for those two girls cause they never get to
- 1:22:49Speaker 2: fucking play because the guys are just so fucking.
- 1:22:52Speaker 3: Selfish and it was an easy. Solution one girl on
- 1:22:55Speaker 3: one team weren't girl on the other.
- 1:22:56Speaker 2: Team oh, FUCK i just solved the goddamn they pay each.
- 1:23:00Speaker 2: OTHER i just, solved for fucking. Pie it wasn't even
- 1:23:03Speaker 2: fucking hard to. Solve but it's just that unwillingness and
- 1:23:08Speaker 2: selfishness that people. Have And, yeah LIKE i, said part
- 1:23:11Speaker 2: of ME i hate. THAT i can't stop, it but
- 1:23:14Speaker 2: part of ME i. DON'T i can't imagine being a
- 1:23:17Speaker 2: person that didn't have it BECAUSE i look at those
- 1:23:20Speaker 2: people as like.
- 1:23:20Speaker 1: Cowards, YEAH i love the way that you talked about
- 1:23:25Speaker 1: that quality of, yours and it makes me like you
- 1:23:28Speaker 1: a lot. MORE i admire you a lot more and
- 1:23:29Speaker 1: probably think that might be why we are connected to
- 1:23:33Speaker 1: a certain, extent BECAUSE i live by a couple of simple.
- 1:23:37Speaker 6: Ideas be the change you want to see in the.
- 1:23:40Speaker 1: World so if someone is putting someone, down treating someone,
- 1:23:45Speaker 1: poorly what.
- 1:23:45Speaker 6: Are you doing in that?
- 1:23:47Speaker 1: Moment if you don't if you want to say the,
- 1:23:50Speaker 1: environment what are you doing about. It another one is
- 1:23:53Speaker 1: surround yourself with people who fight for you in rooms
- 1:23:56Speaker 1: that you're not.
- 1:23:57Speaker 6: In, right, someone If i'm in a room with all.
- 1:24:00Speaker 1: White guys and they say something about black people or
- 1:24:03Speaker 1: more likely you, KNOW i guess the best examples in
- 1:24:06Speaker 1: the nineteen GUYS i talked to in a text chain
- 1:24:08Speaker 1: from high school After Charlie kirk. Died the one there's
- 1:24:12Speaker 1: a couple of trumpers in. THERE i hate them and
- 1:24:14Speaker 1: didn't want them, invited but they're in, there But i'm
- 1:24:17Speaker 1: there to confront.
- 1:24:18Speaker 6: Them So.
- 1:24:19Speaker 1: Charlie this guy went off On Charlie kirk and how
- 1:24:21Speaker 1: good he, was AND i was, like wrong. PLACE i
- 1:24:25Speaker 1: let him on fire and we haven't heard from him,
- 1:24:26Speaker 1: since And i'm proud of. That At, like you, know
- 1:24:30Speaker 1: surround yourself with people who fight for you in the
- 1:24:33Speaker 1: rooms that you're not. In and, finally the one THAT
- 1:24:36Speaker 1: i think about all the, TIME i heard This australian
- 1:24:39Speaker 1: general say it years.
- 1:24:40Speaker 6: Ago was covering this issue in the.
- 1:24:41Speaker 1: News it was during they had some horrible incident of sexual,
- 1:24:46Speaker 1: harassment which all militaries have an epidemic of, it men
- 1:24:49Speaker 1: harassing women and other men generally.
- 1:24:51Speaker 6: Speaking but there was some horrible.
- 1:24:53Speaker 1: Issue and so This australian general in his Cool australian,
- 1:24:57Speaker 1: accent basically he, said the standard you walk, past he's
- 1:25:02Speaker 1: the standard you. Accept the standard you walk past is
- 1:25:06Speaker 1: the standard you. Accept so if someone's over, here you,
- 1:25:08Speaker 1: know making gay jokes and you're just allowing, it or
- 1:25:11Speaker 1: making raisist jokes and you're just allowing, it there's a
- 1:25:13Speaker 1: million ways to handle.
- 1:25:14Speaker 6: IT i know it's, uncomfortable BUT i know that.
- 1:25:18Speaker 1: If if My jewish, friends my gay, friend my black
- 1:25:22Speaker 1: friend or loved one knew THAT i stood by and allowed,
- 1:25:27Speaker 1: that they would be disappointed in the shame of.
- 1:25:30Speaker 6: Me AND i personally can't live with their.
- 1:25:34Speaker 1: Disrespect So i've been that way pretty much my whole,
- 1:25:37Speaker 1: life and it has made me a lot more, friends
- 1:25:41Speaker 1: then it's lost. Me it's gave me a lot more,
- 1:25:42Speaker 1: respect then it's lost. Me and it's my favorite quality.
- 1:25:46Speaker 2: Because in some ways like it like in a way
- 1:25:50Speaker 2: it's not even really about the.
- 1:25:52Speaker 3: Other it's about.
- 1:25:53Speaker 2: Me Like i'll just like in a way it is
- 1:25:55Speaker 2: about me Where i'm just Like i'm not gonna be
- 1:25:57Speaker 2: in a place where this is Where AND i don't
- 1:26:01Speaker 2: know if you found this, too But, uh all this
- 1:26:04Speaker 2: talk like alpha mal this all this. Shit men are
- 1:26:08Speaker 2: so fucking easy to just be, like, no we're not doing,
- 1:26:11Speaker 2: that and the vast majority of the time are just, like, oh,
- 1:26:14Speaker 2: OKAY i see what you.
- 1:26:14Speaker 3: Mean like it's like it's not always a. Fight like.
- 1:26:17Speaker 3: Uh the WAY i lost my white friends was when
- 1:26:20Speaker 3: they When trump was.
- 1:26:20Speaker 2: RUNNING i, remember uh he was saying the first, Time
- 1:26:24Speaker 2: he's Like mexican's a rapists and, shit AND i was,
- 1:26:26Speaker 2: like this guy's a fucking. Racist what the? Fuck no,
- 1:26:29Speaker 2: one you can't vote for this. Shit it was, like,
- 1:26:31Speaker 2: well you, KNOW i, Mean i'm more about the. ECONMYE
- 1:26:33Speaker 2: i was, like fuck, you and fuck. That don you
- 1:26:36Speaker 2: vote for this. Dude we won't be hanging out. Anymore
- 1:26:39Speaker 2: and uh one of them like got a little chippy
- 1:26:42Speaker 2: and was like what do you? Know you just have
- 1:26:44Speaker 2: like a podcast and and all this.
- 1:26:46Speaker 3: Shit you don't know what the fuck you're talking.
- 1:26:48Speaker 2: About AND i was, like, oh, okay my little, podcast okay.
- 1:26:51Speaker 3: Cool SO i was, like, Uh i'm gonna Read i'm
- 1:26:55Speaker 3: gonna read this.
- 1:26:56Speaker 2: Email on our, pod little podcast that no one listen,
- 1:27:00Speaker 2: too that you don't. Respect and the way this man
- 1:27:04Speaker 2: got SCARED i didn't say his name or anything.
- 1:27:07Speaker 3: Like he was just, like, man take it, down take it.
- 1:27:09Speaker 2: DOWN i was, like, Now i'm just gonna post screenshots
- 1:27:11Speaker 2: without your name and it just And i'm just gonna
- 1:27:14Speaker 2: say on my little, platform, hey this is what the
- 1:27:16Speaker 2: fuck white people are talking about With trump and excuses
- 1:27:19Speaker 2: they're making for his racism and. Bigotry and that's and
- 1:27:23Speaker 2: that was when the other white friends popped up to be,
- 1:27:26Speaker 2: like hey, man you maybe take it down man or.
- 1:27:28Speaker 3: Whatever AND i was, like fuck.
- 1:27:30Speaker 2: Everybody and that's HOW i lost, him BECAUSE i was,
- 1:27:32Speaker 2: Like i'm not gonna be an environment where him saying
- 1:27:36Speaker 2: that to, me y'all didn't say shit Right WHEN i was,
- 1:27:39Speaker 2: like hey, man this guy's, racist AND i thought you guys.
- 1:27:41Speaker 3: Weren't y'all were like, crickets Like rod'll handle.
- 1:27:44Speaker 2: It but then When i'm, like hey, Man i'm gonna
- 1:27:46Speaker 2: put you on, blast they're like, whoa, whoa.
- 1:27:48Speaker 3: Whoa, now let's not go too.
- 1:27:50Speaker 2: Far AND i, think you, Know i'd Rather i'd rather
- 1:27:53Speaker 2: be like this than to be like.
- 1:27:55Speaker 6: That you.
- 1:27:55Speaker 1: KNOW i think one of the major issues that we've
- 1:27:57Speaker 1: seen lost as, results specifically If trump and the genre
- 1:28:01Speaker 1: of the movement that there's a loss of. Shame, yes
- 1:28:04Speaker 1: and you can say anything you want to anyone you.
- 1:28:07Speaker 1: Want and So i'm always for putting someone on. Blast
- 1:28:10Speaker 1: oh if, if, if that doesn't, matter if YOU i
- 1:28:12Speaker 1: love these videos when someone just says some horrible stuff
- 1:28:15Speaker 1: and people tape it and you know they they have their,
- 1:28:19Speaker 1: lives you, know. DESTROYED i wouldn't wish that on, somebody
- 1:28:23Speaker 1: but it's important that the rest of us see.
- 1:28:25Speaker 6: That be, LIKE i should keep some things for, myself you,
- 1:28:28Speaker 6: KNOW i would be out.
- 1:28:29Speaker 1: Here shame is a really really important. THING i, MEAN
- 1:28:33Speaker 1: i try to change AND i could tell, you you,
- 1:28:36Speaker 1: know we all should be able to have a lot
- 1:28:38Speaker 1: of stories where we stood up and did the right.
- 1:28:40Speaker 1: Thing it's, like you, know like when the woman's being
- 1:28:42Speaker 1: cat called in the street one time In New York.
- 1:28:44Speaker 6: City this you, know guy's leaning out of his. Truck he's,
- 1:28:47Speaker 6: like hey, Mommy Hey, poppy why don't you come over
- 1:28:49Speaker 6: here To? Poppy he gets something that, whatever and the
- 1:28:51Speaker 6: woman's like looking at. Him he's walking AND i just
- 1:28:53Speaker 6: walk up to, him lean up to his. TRUCK i was,
- 1:28:55Speaker 6: like Hey, poppy.
- 1:28:58Speaker 4: And it don't feel good due when.
- 1:29:00Speaker 2: Unwonted, yeah one TIME i was at the court and
- 1:29:02Speaker 2: my BOY mt saw some chick walking.
- 1:29:05Speaker 6: Up let me.
- 1:29:06Speaker 2: Finish oh of, course, yeah, NO i assume that that's
- 1:29:10Speaker 2: WHY i didn't cut you, off BECAUSE i was, like
- 1:29:12Speaker 2: you don't even need to tell.
- 1:29:13Speaker 3: HER i know how.
- 1:29:13Speaker 4: THIS i hope you charge the fair price for your.
- 1:29:16Speaker 4: Services don't do it for.
- 1:29:17Speaker 3: Now, yeah the game's to be so not. Told BUT
- 1:29:21Speaker 3: i remember.
- 1:29:24Speaker 2: My Friend empty there was some girl walking up on
- 1:29:27Speaker 2: the track when we were playing, ball and she was.
- 1:29:29Speaker 3: Attractive but he was, like, hey hey girl or.
- 1:29:31Speaker 2: Whatever empty's, white by the, way but he's, like hey, girl,
- 1:29:34Speaker 2: Hey AND i was, like what are You are you doing.
- 1:29:37Speaker 3: That to impress?
- 1:29:38Speaker 2: Me like she can barely hear, you and she's definitely
- 1:29:41Speaker 2: not gonna be, like oh my, GOD i need to
- 1:29:44Speaker 2: run downstairs and give this guy some. Buzzy so what
- 1:29:47Speaker 2: like WHAT Id you're clearly just doing this so THAT
- 1:29:50Speaker 2: i know that you think that girl's.
- 1:29:51Speaker 3: ATTRACTIVE i can see from down.
- 1:29:53Speaker 6: Here.
- 1:29:53Speaker 2: Motherfucker now you just got us looking. Corny AND i
- 1:29:56Speaker 2: just kept calling him corny but like a. Lot LIKE i,
- 1:29:59Speaker 2: said it's so. Funny people get so worried about not
- 1:30:04Speaker 2: fitting in or. Whatever then since we were like, kids
- 1:30:08Speaker 2: and it is so funny how you flip the power like,
- 1:30:11Speaker 2: that and almost every time it's, like oh, yeah, noah,
- 1:30:14Speaker 2: No i'm much cooler than. THAT i actually could have
- 1:30:16Speaker 2: walked up there and got her, number Because i'm a
- 1:30:18Speaker 2: real cool kyle like.
- 1:30:19Speaker 3: That i'm, like, yeah you were, corny and don't let
- 1:30:21Speaker 3: me catch me at corny in front of me. Again.
- 1:30:23Speaker 1: Yeah, well it's, sexist and, like we're all, sexists and
- 1:30:26Speaker 1: we need to recognize it and see it for what
- 1:30:28Speaker 1: it is and try to be. Better and the best
- 1:30:31Speaker 1: example of that behavior you just, mentioned the best national
- 1:30:34Speaker 1: example Was Billy bush on The Access hollywood Tape Oh
- 1:30:37Speaker 1: god And hot mic catches then Celebrity trump, saying, yeah your,
- 1:30:41Speaker 1: fingers you can grab him by the, pussy And Billy
- 1:30:43Speaker 1: bush just laughs and doesn't say, anything and then the
- 1:30:45Speaker 1: world finds that out. Later, WELL i was On Real
- 1:30:48Speaker 1: time With Bill maher ON hbo And Billy bush was
- 1:30:51Speaker 1: on that. Episode oh you go watch the, clip Because
- 1:30:55Speaker 1: Billy bush still didn't seem controlled even Though Bill maher
- 1:30:59Speaker 1: brought him back to like to a rehabilitation, time you.
- 1:31:01Speaker 1: Know AND i went After Billy bush similar to the
- 1:31:04Speaker 1: WHAT i said here about the PRINCIPLES i lived. BY
- 1:31:06Speaker 1: i said that quote the standard walk past is the.
- 1:31:08Speaker 1: Standard except mar did not like WHAT i.
- 1:31:11Speaker 6: Said so he talks to me.
- 1:31:12Speaker 1: And he's, like, Oh, pete you've always been great with,
- 1:31:15Speaker 1: women and you've never this and, that AND i, said, no, man,
- 1:31:19Speaker 1: NO i absolutely objectified women in my. Life i've absolutely
- 1:31:24Speaker 1: thought about women as vessels to be. CONQUERED i still
- 1:31:27Speaker 1: catch myself doing it and thinking and saying inappropriate. Things
- 1:31:31Speaker 1: BUT i did mature at a certain.
- 1:31:34Speaker 7: Point and more, IMPORTANTLY i was never in a group
- 1:31:38Speaker 7: of friends or with a bunch of men that talked
- 1:31:41Speaker 7: about taking sex or joking about assaulting.
- 1:31:44Speaker 6: Women what we, did what most GUYS i.
- 1:31:47Speaker 1: Know do locker room talk was, THIS i want to
- 1:31:51Speaker 1: fuck that, girl and then your buddy's, going she'll never fuck.
- 1:31:54Speaker 6: You and at this.
- 1:31:57Speaker 3: The real locker on, top they, talk they.
- 1:32:01Speaker 4: Talk i'm not primitives, too sometimes. Ragitment we don't talk like. That.
- 1:32:05Speaker 2: Yeah that was actually the most offensive thing about That
- 1:32:07Speaker 2: trump shit was when they were like his locker room.
- 1:32:09Speaker 2: TALK i was, like, no it's not, WELL i don't
- 1:32:11Speaker 2: know what the fuck you guys talk about in the locker.
- 1:32:13Speaker 2: Room that is not the locker room. Talk is like
- 1:32:15Speaker 2: put your old balls.
- 1:32:16Speaker 1: Away like even my, TWENTIES i don't know how you
- 1:32:22Speaker 1: were raised or how that guy was. Raised but in
- 1:32:24Speaker 1: my twenties or my, thirties obviously NOW i have. Daughters
- 1:32:27Speaker 1: For god's. Sake sometimes people, like, oh you shouldn't be
- 1:32:29Speaker 1: like a pro woman feminist type of person just because
- 1:32:32Speaker 1: you have. Daughters i'm, like, WELL i would care more
- 1:32:34Speaker 1: about cerebral palsy if my kid had.
- 1:32:35Speaker 6: That SO i have. DAUGHTERS i think a lot about, women.
- 1:32:37Speaker 1: And i've worked on, issues you, know with women's equity
- 1:32:41Speaker 1: and reproductive rights and domestic violence and all these. Things
- 1:32:43Speaker 1: and the bottom line is like in my twenties or
- 1:32:45Speaker 1: thirties are now like IF i knew a, MAN i
- 1:32:48Speaker 1: knew whether if he was a stranger even as we're
- 1:32:51Speaker 1: talking about much LIKE i knew touched a woman right
- 1:32:54Speaker 1: woman right, That like my what would my? REACT i
- 1:32:58Speaker 1: probably slapped the shit out of, him BUT i would
- 1:33:00Speaker 1: certainly say, something.
- 1:33:01Speaker 6: And it would be. HORRIBLE i don't know IF i,
- 1:33:03Speaker 6: would like who's doing?
- 1:33:05Speaker 3: That and that's definitely not the homeless.
- 1:33:08Speaker 2: Like like he's definitely also not the guy that's like
- 1:33:12Speaker 2: you're kicking it, With like he comes, back and he's, like,
- 1:33:15Speaker 2: DUDE i just grabbed so many pussies and you're, like, whoa,
- 1:33:18Speaker 2: Whoa i'm gonna.
- 1:33:20Speaker 6: OUT i will out my.
- 1:33:21Speaker 1: Friend this, SUMMER i was at a birthday party for
- 1:33:23Speaker 1: my buddy's fifty so we're all, fifty and my friend's
- 1:33:26Speaker 1: eighty year old mom was, there and he is so
- 1:33:29Speaker 1: drunk that he put his arm around her and WHAT
- 1:33:32Speaker 1: i thought was not an appropriate, way but she didn't.
- 1:33:35Speaker 1: CARE i don't think because he's.
- 1:33:36Speaker 6: So small and non threatening and so, drunk but it
- 1:33:41Speaker 6: is weird that he put his arm around.
- 1:33:43Speaker 1: An eighty year old our friend's mom like he basically
- 1:33:47Speaker 1: in the past as a fifty year old at our
- 1:33:49Speaker 1: friend's eight year old MoMA was, like what ARE i?
- 1:33:51Speaker 6: MEAN i grabbed him and pulled him out of the,
- 1:33:53Speaker 6: tuition but still, like what are you?
- 1:33:55Speaker 5: Doing she's, bro mama gotta have a life time trying
- 1:34:00Speaker 5: to find him a sugar?

- 1:34:17Speaker 3: Like a. Gentleman. YAKAY i was sober, consent, like, yeah
- 1:34:22Speaker 3: you're absolutely.
- 1:34:23Speaker 2: Okay, LISTEN i hear what's going on in these old

- 1:34:49Speaker 1: care about and so much less time to live THAT
- 1:34:51Speaker 1: i would sign up to live in a nursing home
- 1:34:53Speaker 1: called The.

- 1:38:05Speaker 4: FRIENDS i never saw. FRIENDS i have.
- 1:38:06Speaker 3: Such huge cultural holes in my.
- 1:38:09Speaker 2: Life meet too in the nineties BECAUSE i went through
- 1:38:12Speaker 2: like the Nineties Spike, Lee MALCOLM x hat days WHERE
- 1:38:16Speaker 2: i would just be, like that's white people, shit and
- 1:38:18Speaker 2: THEN i just wouldn't watch.
- 1:38:19Speaker 4: IT i never saw, friends they never Saw. Sinfield and
- 1:38:21Speaker 4: THEN i REMEMBER i got.
- 1:38:23Speaker 3: A tv in my room with me and my little,
- 1:38:24Speaker 3: brother and it couldn't get.
- 1:38:26Speaker 2: Cable it could only get the like regular over the air,
- 1:38:29Speaker 2: channels and so every DAY i would Watch.
- 1:38:33Speaker 3: SEINFELD i was, like this is the fucking funniest Shit
- 1:38:37Speaker 3: i've ever seen in my.
- 1:38:38Speaker 1: Life the opposite like growing up white and nnies and
- 1:38:42Speaker 1: the access you, Had like the REFERENCES i had the
- 1:38:44Speaker 1: black people in black culture were mostly, television, entertainment, music
- 1:38:47Speaker 1: AND i was never a big music person of any.
- 1:38:49Speaker 1: Genre but a lot of WHAT i thought about used
- 1:38:52Speaker 1: to do this joke with my standing back in front
- 1:38:54Speaker 1: of black. AUDIENCES a lot about WHAT i thought about
- 1:38:55Speaker 1: black people in black culture was SOMETHING i learned, from you,
- 1:38:58Speaker 1: know a predominantly black, show which you, know most of
- 1:39:00Speaker 1: the time did a pretty good job in the seventies
- 1:39:02Speaker 1: and eighties of. Representing but the show that was most
- 1:39:06Speaker 1: indelible to, me the show THAT i laughed the hardest,
- 1:39:09Speaker 1: at AND i wouldn't say it was like typical of black.
- 1:39:10Speaker 6: Culture whatever it was mixed with The.
- 1:39:12Speaker 1: Jeffersons, YES i Love The jeffersons is a show to this,
- 1:39:16Speaker 1: day AND i can still hear my. Brother we would
- 1:39:18Speaker 1: what we call scream laugh screaming laughing At George jefferson
- 1:39:23Speaker 1: And florence whose, name what's her?
- 1:39:25Speaker 6: Name after's? Name she's still, Alive, Marla.
- 1:39:28Speaker 1: And that show for me Was Marla, GIBBS i Think Marla.
- 1:39:33Speaker 1: Gibbs and there were a lot of, other you, know
- 1:39:35Speaker 1: predominantly black shows too that, YEAH i. LIKED i liked
- 1:39:38Speaker 1: black like sitcom and comedy and oh.
- 1:39:41Speaker 3: That's the, thing.
- 1:39:42Speaker 2: Dude black culture is Basically american, culture, Right like so
- 1:39:45Speaker 2: much of our cultural expert In america has just been
- 1:39:48Speaker 2: like black people. Shit like even stuff that's white people
- 1:39:51Speaker 2: shit now was black people shit.
- 1:39:52Speaker 3: There it was rock and, roll it was.
- 1:39:54Speaker 1: Jazz and Think i'm just speaking Of i'm speaking out
- 1:39:58Speaker 1: of a lot of, agents BUT i think it's.
- 1:39:59Speaker 6: TRUE tv was overwhelmingly.
- 1:40:02Speaker 1: Dominated by white actors and white shows, always so the
- 1:40:05Speaker 1: point where you could talk about the first black on
- 1:40:07Speaker 1: screen kiss with Like Sidney, poitieri the first black, lead
- 1:40:11Speaker 1: or or even on The, awards we.
- 1:40:13Speaker 6: Could it's just more.
- 1:40:13Speaker 1: Nonsense but like so four white people who were at
- 1:40:16Speaker 1: least trying to be open mind or curious whether they
- 1:40:18Speaker 1: knew anything or.
- 1:40:19Speaker 6: Not but CERTAINLY i was GROWN i was curious that,
- 1:40:21Speaker 6: Way like it was hard FOR tv was your. Thing
- 1:40:25Speaker 6: music was never my.
- 1:40:26Speaker 1: Thing if music was more of the, thing music radicalizes
- 1:40:28Speaker 1: people in all kinds of, ways AND i just never
- 1:40:30Speaker 1: got into. It it's white cultural blind, spot but television
- 1:40:33Speaker 1: and particularly comedy that was.
- 1:40:36Speaker 2: Weird AND i guess WHAT i mean to say with
- 1:40:37Speaker 2: that is like you would Think The jeffersons would be
- 1:40:41Speaker 2: like a niche show because but it's it was like
- 1:40:44Speaker 2: a lot of people Love The jeffersons because it WAS i,
- 1:40:47Speaker 2: mean it was just.
- 1:40:47Speaker 1: Dope there was a, thing and a lot of black,
- 1:40:50Speaker 1: COMEDIANS a lot of comedians have done this, joke but
- 1:40:52Speaker 1: there was there is a there was also a. Thing
- 1:40:54Speaker 1: it's all kinds of things that it did that didn't
- 1:40:57Speaker 1: help white, folks. Right, yeah used to be able to
- 1:41:00Speaker 1: jokes that you know, WHAT i thought black people didn't
- 1:41:02Speaker 1: this or. That, Right but but one of the jokes
- 1:41:05Speaker 1: is that like growing up white In america watching a
- 1:41:08Speaker 1: lot OF, tv you might have been vulnerable to the
- 1:41:10Speaker 1: idea that there were a lot of young black boys
- 1:41:13Speaker 1: with that disease where they didn't grow into full Men's
- 1:41:17Speaker 1: there was only like nine shows ON, tv and one
- 1:41:20Speaker 1: Was Emmanuel lewis and one Was Harry. Coleman why would
- 1:41:25Speaker 1: casting these cute young black boys because they had the
- 1:41:30Speaker 1: maturity of an older boy and they could play a,
- 1:41:33Speaker 1: kid and they had those funny.
- 1:41:34Speaker 6: Lines they were so good at.
- 1:41:35Speaker 1: Comedy as a, result what you talk about willis but
- 1:41:38Speaker 1: it was also where white people were, like what's wrong
- 1:41:41Speaker 1: with Little why are those little black boys not?
- 1:41:43Speaker 6: GROWING i think that agent like.
- 1:41:46Speaker 2: CARTOONS i Think Larry wilmore in his BOOK I Wish
- 1:41:50Speaker 2: We Got. CASINOS i think he's called Those shetland. Negroes that's,
- 1:41:55Speaker 2: hilarious like a Little.
- 1:41:57Speaker 6: Oh, god that's not.
- 1:41:59Speaker 4: Nice that is.
- 1:42:00Speaker 3: Hilarious, YEAH i remember reading that.
