- 1:08SPEAKER_02: If you keep telling yourself you'll finally get serious about your cleaning business when things calm down, I need you to hear me.
- 1:17SPEAKER_02: Things are not going to magically calm down ever unless you do something.
- 1:23SPEAKER_02: The clients will keep calling, employees will keep needing answers, fires will keep popping up.
- 1:29SPEAKER_02: And if your business doesn't have the structure, every new opportunity will feel like one more thing that you have to carry.
- 1:39SPEAKER_02: That is exactly what the Structure Scale and Profit Cleaning Business Academy is designed to change.
- 1:45SPEAKER_02: Over 400 businesses have gone through the program.
- 1:48SPEAKER_02: This scholarship isn't for the person with the saddest story or the most perfect application.
- 1:54SPEAKER_02: It's for the cleaning business owner who is ready to stop winging it, start implementing, and build a company that can actually support the life that you want.
- 2:04SPEAKER_02: You do not need to have everything figured out before you apply.
- 2:08SPEAKER_02: That's the whole damn point.
- 2:12SPEAKER_02: The scholarship application is officially open on my website, Clean Freaks University.
- 2:18SPEAKER_02: Applications close on Veterans Day, November 11th, and the recipient will be announced on Black Friday.
- 2:26SPEAKER_02: Stop deciding for me that you won't be chosen.
- 2:34SPEAKER_02: Tell me where you are, where you want to go, and why you're ready to do the work.
- 2:42SPEAKER_02: Talk to you soon.
- 2:51SPEAKER_02: This is Shani Miller with Cleaning Business Life, and I am with my wonderful co-host, Miss Jamie Renko from Northern California from Above All Cleaning.
- 2:59SPEAKER_02: Yay! I have my own sound studio.
- 3:03SPEAKER_02: And today, and today, we're gonna talk about shiny object syndrome.
- 3:10SPEAKER_02: And you might hear us reference squirrel, squirrel, it's just the squirrel.
- 3:15SPEAKER_02: And then in the story behind the premise behind that is that the squirrel goes, We have one, his name is Fred.
- 3:21SPEAKER_02: He's actually a red tail squirrel, and his tail turns blonde in the summer.
- 3:26SPEAKER_02: So we'll see Fred because we have bird feeders and we have birds.
- 3:29SPEAKER_02: Um, we'll see him all over our front porch.
- 3:31SPEAKER_02: And it's a freaky thing if you're not used to seeing Fred on our porch, because all you see is his blonde tail.
- 3:38SPEAKER_02: But I've watched him go to get a nut or something, and then he gets sidetracked by something else.
- 3:42SPEAKER_02: And that's what I mean about shiny object syndrome.
- 3:45SPEAKER_02: And when we go squirrel, it's because we got off track of what we're talking about and we're trying to get back on track.
- 3:53SPEAKER_00: What are some shiny object syndrome things that you do, Miss Jamie?
- 3:57SPEAKER_00: Oh gosh.
- 3:58SPEAKER_00: I look, you guys, my cheeks hurt so bad right now because Jamie buys shit.
- 4:07SPEAKER_00: And so a lot of my shiny objects are, especially in the cleaning business industry.
- 4:15SPEAKER_00: In the beginning, it was the newest, latest product.
- 4:18SPEAKER_00: How to try it.
- 4:19SPEAKER_00: All of the tools.
- 4:21SPEAKER_00: I remember not necessarily like the trend.
- 4:24SPEAKER_00: Like I never did uh toilet bowl cleaner and all that.
- 4:29SPEAKER_00: That that I never seen that shiny object, but like apps and subscriptions and stuff like that.
- 4:42SPEAKER_02: I think I had shiny object syndrome when I first started to dabble into coaching.
- 4:48SPEAKER_02: So I went with, or and I'm still guilty of this, I'll buy a program, and then I never I it's all about buying the program.
- 4:54SPEAKER_02: I never actually do anything with the program.
- 4:57SPEAKER_02: So then you don't really need all of the programs, right?
- 5:01SPEAKER_02: You just need to decide where you're going from point A to point B and map out all of the steps to get from point A to point B.
- 5:09SPEAKER_02: And you might not even have the steps.
- 5:10SPEAKER_02: You just know that you are starting here and you want to end up there and you want to mimic whoever, who whatever it is that you are mimicking, right?
- 5:19SPEAKER_02: I I want to go on vacation four times next year.
- 5:22SPEAKER_02: Will I make it?
- 5:23SPEAKER_02: I don't know, but it's a goal.
- 5:25SPEAKER_02: I still have to resolve my passport issue, so I'm working on that still.
- 5:30SPEAKER_02: No traveling for Shannon, right?
- 5:33SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 5:34SPEAKER_02: And shiny object syndrome actually looks a little different in a cleaning business because you do want to try all of the new things.
- 5:45SPEAKER_02: I have seen several people try out those little plastic containers that you put your your sponge daddy or your sponge mommy in.
- 5:54SPEAKER_02: I've seen the caps for the barkeeper's friend, and I just laugh every time.
- 5:59SPEAKER_02: And these are great tools and these are great ideas, but when you've been doing this a long time, we all know with barkeeper's friend or any cleanser, you pull the sticker off, you put it halfway, and you slap it back on so that you only in case it were to spill, only half of it would come out instead of the full amount.
- 6:17SPEAKER_02: Some of you might like or on the fold on the powder, you put the glove on there.
- 6:22SPEAKER_02: Right, or you put a glove that with the or you can do a glove with a rubber band, or maybe you use saran wrap, or whatever it is you're using, there are several ideas and concepts.
- 6:32SPEAKER_02: And when you buy extra things that you don't use, it ends up being a drain on your profit because you're trying to get from a goal.
- 6:41SPEAKER_02: But I get it.
- 6:43SPEAKER_02: When you first start indicating a business and you're having the cash flow, you're like, what can I buy?
- 6:48SPEAKER_02: Totally, what am I gonna buy today?
- 6:50SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 6:51SPEAKER_02: I'm like, I'm gonna try this.
- 6:53SPEAKER_02: And then you might have flat mops versus um Tovar mops.
- 6:57SPEAKER_02: Tovar mops were really popular for a long, long time and now they're not popular because they're not in business anymore.
- 7:03SPEAKER_02: But I've always been a hardcore flat mop girl.
- 7:06SPEAKER_00: Uh it's harder, but it works.
- 7:09SPEAKER_00: Less complex.
- 7:10SPEAKER_00: I agree.
- 7:10SPEAKER_00: Um, and we we are too, but yeah, tools was a big thing in the beginning for the shiny objects.
- 7:22SPEAKER_00: Then it became uh apps and subscriptions.
- 7:26SPEAKER_00: I want to exp oh CRMs.
- 7:28SPEAKER_00: I cannot tell you.
- 7:32SPEAKER_00: So I think you tried them all.
- 7:35SPEAKER_00: I in the very beginning, I sure did, and um uh just like just like with Gusto, I left I left uh Jabber and then um I tried everything out there and it just wasn't a fit, so but I I sat there and I tried to implement and try to do things and you know so subscriptions and apps were really marketing for me marketing uh well because I was too new, I don't think marketing was huge until I learned gosh, I'm like in the beginning.
- 8:22SPEAKER_00: It was uh boosting up my Facebook page, my business page.
- 8:28SPEAKER_00: So I you know, I've used a lot of money on that.
- 8:33SPEAKER_00: Um, I've always ran a small percentage for and we're talking uh seriously, deep dark secret here on this podcast right now.
- 8:45SPEAKER_00: I only spend about a hundred bucks a month on my marketing on Google until I learn how to do like SEO and all that other stuff better.
- 8:57SPEAKER_02: But it was And the problem with Google is they keep changing the algorithm.
- 9:03SPEAKER_02: I mean, they just did a major update.
- 9:04SPEAKER_02: So if you're advertising with them, if you didn't tweak your stuff, you might want to go back and look at the email they mailed.
- 9:10SPEAKER_02: They mailed an email to everybody.
- 9:11SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and said if you were changing on such and such a date, you need to beware, blah, blah, blah, blah.
- 9:16SPEAKER_00: Um, and that's smart we have it on a smart campaign.
- 9:21SPEAKER_00: So it'll bend and flex to what and you gotta learn that stuff.
- 9:27SPEAKER_00: Yeah, well, what's a smart campaign?
- 9:29SPEAKER_00: I mean, we could do a whole episode about that.
- 9:32SPEAKER_00: It's uh, geez.
- 9:34SPEAKER_01: You buy into this stuff, uh coaching.
- 9:41SPEAKER_00: Not even coaching, but um programs that could have not it m might not necessarily worked for you, you know.
- 9:51SPEAKER_02: Or you buy the program and you buy the premium, no knowing that if you don't even know if you need the premium, you didn't get the low end because you're like, well, I'm just gonna get the premium.
- 9:59SPEAKER_02: Because it'll teach you all the things.
- 10:02SPEAKER_00: It's gonna do all the things, and then you're like and it'll fix everything.
- 10:05SPEAKER_00: That my friends, in the cleaning business industry, is shiny object syndrome, and that's what we're talking about today.
- 10:14SPEAKER_02: So, like software, products, coaching, um, apps, tools, microfibers versus non-microfi, Norwex.
- 10:26SPEAKER_02: I mean, it's it's all it's all the things.
- 10:28SPEAKER_00: It is and it's I can't I can get messy.
- 10:34SPEAKER_00: There's things in in in the um the storage area, like in my storage area here at the office.
- 10:42SPEAKER_00: I have not used you guys since the beginning whenever I first opened this.
- 10:47SPEAKER_00: Still, still, I'm like, I want to throw it away.
- 10:51SPEAKER_00: Remember, I told you a couple of episodes back that I went to the the Dollar Tree and took pictures of to my sister and sent it like I'm opening a cleaning business.
- 11:04SPEAKER_00: I still have the bottle of awesome.
- 11:09SPEAKER_00: That's the worst chemical guy.
- 11:11SPEAKER_00: And then I looked as we went and grew along the way, I was like, well, that's not what I want to use in my my business as you scale and whatnot, because it's different, you know?
- 11:22SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 11:23SPEAKER_02: Or watching another business owner succeed and assuming that you need to copy and mimic whatever it is they're doing because they're successful.
- 11:32SPEAKER_02: And we've talked a lot about numbers, especially with Jamie doing the thing she's doing with Erica, that just because on the outside they look successful doesn't mean that they're actually successful on the inside.
- 11:42SPEAKER_02: And you've all heard me mention how I was a member of the um women entrepreneur group, I believe it has 300,000 people in it, and I paid for a year and a half$97 a month to be able to promote my stuff.
- 11:56SPEAKER_02: And then I started to see the same patterns, and then I realized that the people who said that they were successful never once showed us a PL.
- 12:04SPEAKER_02: They only showed us next to a plane or a limo or a Lamborghini living the life, air quotes.
- 12:10SPEAKER_02: And I was like, this is all this is all fake.
- 12:13SPEAKER_02: There's no successful people in here.
- 12:14SPEAKER_02: There's just 300,000 of us who are paying 97 bucks a month.
- 12:19SPEAKER_02: Like the only people, right?
- 12:22SPEAKER_00: It's like an MSM.
- 12:24SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 12:25SPEAKER_00: Kinda.
- 12:26SPEAKER_00: No offense if you guys do that.
- 12:28SPEAKER_00: I I do, you know.
- 12:30SPEAKER_00: But I know exactly what you mean.
- 12:32SPEAKER_00: I I've seen that, been I I've done that way back in a long time ago.
- 12:40SPEAKER_00: And comparing your messy middle to someone else's polished final result.
- 12:46SPEAKER_00: Don't do that.
- 12:46SPEAKER_00: Don't be tempted.
- 12:49SPEAKER_00: The end result?
- 12:50SPEAKER_00: We uh we we don't know what the end result really is.
- 12:54SPEAKER_02: But well, everybody has different end results.
- 12:57SPEAKER_02: Some people just want to buy a car, some people want to get their kid through college, other people want to buy properties and short-term rentals.
- 13:03SPEAKER_02: Everybody's different in what they want.
- 13:06SPEAKER_00: And and those can change through time.
- 13:08SPEAKER_00: Like I I wanted to I wanted to buy a house.
- 13:12SPEAKER_00: This business allowed me to it took a lot of work, but it allowed me to finally be able to purchase my home.
- 13:25SPEAKER_00: So, and that's I that's not my end result, though.
- 13:28SPEAKER_00: You know, that's not my end result, and then it was the next goal.
- 13:32SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 13:32SPEAKER_00: And then it's the next goal, you know?
- 13:34SPEAKER_00: Uh, then it was the office, and then it's like, wow, all with this business.
- 13:40SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 13:40SPEAKER_00: But there is a lot of uh shiny, shiny object syndrome going on too.
- 13:45SPEAKER_02: There totally is.
- 13:46SPEAKER_02: Or comparing your messy middle to someone else's, it's like I said, it's all it's all on the journey, right?
- 13:52SPEAKER_02: Life is what do they say?
- 13:53SPEAKER_02: Life is the destination.
- 13:55SPEAKER_02: What is it?
- 13:55SPEAKER_02: What is the saying?
- 13:56SPEAKER_02: I forgot.
- 13:57SPEAKER_02: Oh, I I know what it is.
- 13:58SPEAKER_02: I know it, it'll come to me later.
- 13:59SPEAKER_02: I'm like, I got it, I got it.
- 14:01SPEAKER_02: I know.
- 14:02SPEAKER_00: Not the final destination.
- 14:04SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 14:04SPEAKER_02: It's it's about the journey, not the you know, the final destination.
- 14:07SPEAKER_02: And then starting is always exciting.
- 14:10SPEAKER_02: I still to this day get excited when school starts.
- 14:16SPEAKER_02: I like to go through the whole process of getting the kids' supplies, buying the new clothes, because I was trained like a parrot with my and my grandma.
- 14:27SPEAKER_02: I still get excited when school starts.
- 14:29SPEAKER_02: So when I'm starting something new, I get excited with that.
- 14:32SPEAKER_02: Like it's a new thing.
- 14:33SPEAKER_02: Like I'm getting ready to launch in-person classes here locally, because I've been asked over and over and over and over and over and over and over again.
- 14:42SPEAKER_02: So I'm excited about that, right?
- 14:44SPEAKER_02: So that's another shiny object syndrome.
- 14:46SPEAKER_02: And in re in reality, if you know, if you continue to do the same thing and you don't build it up, then is it really worth your time and is it making you any profit?
- 14:57SPEAKER_02: So the messy middle can be different.
- 14:59SPEAKER_02: And then every new idea creates hidden work.
- 15:03SPEAKER_02: So you have to, and and this will be our next episode that we talk about, less we we want, we're not adding, we're subtracting.
- 15:11SPEAKER_02: Then we can go at length about what we're adding and we're subtracting, but don't add more to your bottom line until you've gotten control over what is there, right?
- 15:21SPEAKER_02: Don't keep starting fresh new, fresh new, fresh new, fresh new.
- 15:25SPEAKER_02: And then pretty soon you have 57 other projects going and you never finish project number one.
- 15:29SPEAKER_00: Or yeah, no, you need to that's uh something you have to do.
- 15:33SPEAKER_00: You have to follow through with your implementation, you know.
- 15:38SPEAKER_00: But you know, it can't it trying to implement something that you're excited to buy and fresh and new, it takes your the the expense becomes your time, right?
- 15:52SPEAKER_00: That's that's what becomes your time is trying to implement this and knowing that it ain't gonna take your business to the next level.
- 16:01SPEAKER_00: So your time is valuable.
- 16:03SPEAKER_02: Ver very much so.
- 16:04SPEAKER_02: It's your your it's actually your most precious commodity because we only get to have so much time here on the planet that we're aware of.
- 16:12SPEAKER_02: And if you're wasting your time going over here and then going over there, you're you've and then I you may have learned something from it, but did it get you to where you want to go?
- 16:21SPEAKER_02: And that's the point that I'm getting to with Jamie is Jamie is now super laser focused on is this activity going to get me to the next level that I want to achieve?
- 16:33SPEAKER_02: Not the, oh look, I started this new class.
- 16:36SPEAKER_02: Oh, look, I have this new coach.
- 16:37SPEAKER_02: Oh, look, I bought this really cool app.
- 16:39SPEAKER_02: What do you think of this?
- 16:40SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 16:41SPEAKER_02: And we're all we're all guilt.
- 16:42SPEAKER_02: I'm we're both guilty of it.
- 16:44SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but look, my cheeks are it's so true.
- 16:49SPEAKER_00: It because we are guilty of it.
- 16:51SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 16:52SPEAKER_00: My cheeks are hurting from smiling as the truth.
- 16:56SPEAKER_02: Also, it could be another service.
- 16:58SPEAKER_02: Sometimes I it's like going to the restaurant that has the menu that's 17 pages long.
- 17:04SPEAKER_02: When people have too many decisions, they have decision fatigue and they don't know what service they need.
- 17:08SPEAKER_02: They're like, I just need cleaning.
- 17:10SPEAKER_02: I don't need commercial cleaning or laundry cleaning or, you know, RV cleaning or boat cleaning or, you know, yacht cleaning.
- 17:16SPEAKER_02: I mean, there's all of these different cleans, right?
- 17:19SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 17:46SPEAKER_00: Adding revenue streams before the original business is stable can multiply chaos instead of profit.
- 17:53SPEAKER_00: And that's true.
- 17:55SPEAKER_00: That's true.
- 17:56SPEAKER_00: You need to build your business first.
- 18:02SPEAKER_00: And we're talking about adding on a new service.
- 18:05SPEAKER_00: Yes, it's exciting.
- 18:06SPEAKER_00: Yes, it's new, but guess what?
- 18:08SPEAKER_00: I gotta go now.
- 18:10SPEAKER_00: I'm kind of prepared of okay, if I add this service on, I need to do some market research first.
- 18:17SPEAKER_00: Like I you know what I'm saying?
- 18:19SPEAKER_00: I know not to buy all the shiny objects.
- 18:23SPEAKER_00: I I know how to pump the brakes now because I just was there not even five years ago yet.
- 18:34SPEAKER_00: Stop implementing as much as you can before going on to the next thing.
- 18:45SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 18:45SPEAKER_02: And some things you can do to prevent you from jumping on the shiny uh object syndrome is create a not now list of good ideas.
- 18:55SPEAKER_02: Um, a lot of us use Chat GPT for this.
- 18:58SPEAKER_02: I always say, you know, hey, I'm just putting this in here as an idea, and it says ideas 2026.
- 19:04SPEAKER_02: I'm not taking any action on this now, but when I ask you later, it will actually go back and recall.
- 19:09SPEAKER_02: Hey, you had this wonderful idea.
- 19:11SPEAKER_02: Do you think that you want to do this now or in 2027 or not at all?
- 19:15SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 19:15SPEAKER_02: It gives you time to kind of ruminate to see if it's actually just a brilliant idea or it actually can have some momentum and pull you an income.
- 19:23SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 19:24SPEAKER_00: Uh brain dumping, I have learned it, you guys.
- 19:30SPEAKER_00: I'm showing you guys all these brain dumps that I have been working on.
- 19:35SPEAKER_00: I'm crossing off as we're going along.
- 19:38SPEAKER_00: I also, if you're into putting it all implementing, look right here.
- 19:44SPEAKER_00: I wrote implementation relay, gusto, run, payroll, uh, team meeting.
- 19:54SPEAKER_00: It's a brain dump.
- 19:55SPEAKER_00: And if you can't think of it, it won't start manifesting as true and work its way towards that actual goal.
- 20:05SPEAKER_00: It's also a kind like a reminder.
- 20:07SPEAKER_00: It kind of well for me, it keeps me on a on a short leash, I should say.
- 20:14SPEAKER_00: It keeps me focused versus versus squirrel, you know, going over here where I used to, if you guys remember in the beginning of this podcast, I would go off on these tangents sometimes because I, you know, not tangents, but just talking all over the place.
- 20:36SPEAKER_00: Now it's more focused.
- 20:40SPEAKER_00: Does that make sense?
- 20:42SPEAKER_00: There there's I'm not so much squirrel as I was before because I brain dumped and and I don't know.
- 20:52SPEAKER_00: Maybe it's because I just learned that something new for myself that it works.
- 20:58SPEAKER_00: Those brain dumps work and keeps you focused.
- 21:03SPEAKER_00: AI too.
- 21:04SPEAKER_00: You can go back and look at your your chats, and and they have a great way of structuring and organizing your thoughts for the business, right?
- 21:20SPEAKER_02: And I legit, if you were to go into my chat GPT, I have 400 projects going.
- 21:25SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 21:26SPEAKER_02: Priority middle and then not a priority at all.
- 21:28SPEAKER_02: Because, like, legit, the shower gods will deliver something, or I'm out walking and I'm like, hey, can you just remember this for me?
- 21:35SPEAKER_02: Because I'm not carrying a pen and paper.
- 21:37SPEAKER_02: Um, and then, you know, I love the concept, Jamie, as well of writing it down.
- 21:43SPEAKER_02: When you write it down on paper, you are connecting with the universe and you're using your creative and cognitive brain, which helps attract, and I know this is woo-woo, it helps attract in what you are focusing in on and it makes it easier for you.
- 21:58SPEAKER_02: If you do not journal, and I highly recommend that you do, take the time and journal for 30 minutes in the morning, or if the evening is better for you after the kids have gone to bed, do that.
- 22:08SPEAKER_02: Then it becomes a habit and it helps keep you focused on what it is you want.
- 22:14SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you can drop it in Chat GPT, depending on if you're it goes out to the chat.
- 22:19SPEAKER_02: It just is there, it's a marker for you.
- 22:20SPEAKER_02: But when you have it on paper and you're scribbling all over the place and you're sticking in this magazine piece that you saw, and that, you know, there's chocolate because your kid was looking at it.
- 22:31SPEAKER_02: Are you looking at this?
- 22:32SPEAKER_02: No, I got chocolate on my face.
- 22:34SPEAKER_02: You know, those moments are all there in the book, and you can start to catalog them and store them for future reference and or get rid of them.
- 22:43SPEAKER_02: Some people have.
- 22:46SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 22:47SPEAKER_00: And then it really takes me a long time to finally go, I can shred this piece of paper.
- 22:53SPEAKER_01: You know what?
- 22:59SPEAKER_01: It keeps me for me focused.
- 23:01SPEAKER_00: And your your brain dump can look ever different.
- 23:05SPEAKER_00: You can journal.
- 23:06SPEAKER_00: You've seen that I um I just showed a journal.
- 23:08SPEAKER_00: A lot of people like to do that.
- 23:12SPEAKER_00: But always the question is does this support the business I'm intentionally building, or is it distracting me from it?
- 23:22SPEAKER_00: If I Taking the time out to write it down, I believe that is intentionally building because it's like, okay, no, that idea not gonna work.
- 23:32SPEAKER_00: Next, oh, here's one we're gonna do, and we work on that, or I do, I work on that and build off of that.
- 23:42SPEAKER_02: And I think staying off social media as well.
- 23:46SPEAKER_02: I'm not saying that social media does not have its purpose, but when you spend an exorbitant amount of time, and I'm guilty of it, when you're going through schools and the next thing you look up, an hour has been wasted.
- 23:57SPEAKER_02: It might be time that you have to turn it off for a while because you're not focused on anything.
- 24:02SPEAKER_02: You're just doom scrolling, is what they call it.
- 24:05SPEAKER_02: And I'm not saying it's a bad thing, it's just the dopamine hit, dopamine hit, dopamine hit, dopamine hit.
- 24:11SPEAKER_02: And the algorithm sees what you're watching and it'll feed you more of the same thing because they want you to stay.
- 24:16SPEAKER_02: It's like going to a casino when there's no clock.
- 24:20SPEAKER_00: Oh, and it's dark inside.
- 24:21SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and it's dark.
- 24:22SPEAKER_00: You can't make out what time it is.
- 24:24SPEAKER_02: You're like, I've been in here for 24 hours.
- 24:26SPEAKER_02: I need to go outside.
- 24:28SPEAKER_02: So boredom can be evidence of consistency, not evidence that something is broken.
- 24:34SPEAKER_02: That is something to think about.
- 24:36SPEAKER_02: So if things are running smoothly and you're bored and there's no major fires to put out, it's time for a vacation.
- 24:43SPEAKER_00: Yeah, no.
- 24:45SPEAKER_00: I'm like, yeah, I really need one.
- 24:48SPEAKER_00: But um, yeah, whenever I'm into this, you won't see me on social media anymore.
- 24:55SPEAKER_00: It's like I'm working.
- 24:58SPEAKER_00: And then it's like, wow, I I used to be on it so much, and then now it's like I'll look and I have 150 notifications because I haven't checked my social media for so long because I have my nose down to the ground implementing.
- 25:15SPEAKER_00: I am on the computer though.
- 25:16SPEAKER_00: I mean, I am on the computer, but I am building out something, right?
- 25:22SPEAKER_00: And social media can definitely that's that is a shiny object syndrome right there.
- 25:31SPEAKER_00: It can't, it definitely can be.
- 25:33SPEAKER_02: And like I finally had to, and I'm sure if you're Facebook friends with me, you saw my really obnoxious no-soliciting post.
- 25:41SPEAKER_02: Um, if for those of you who don't know, I've had we have a new internet being installed in our area.
- 25:46SPEAKER_02: Yay, that's great.
- 25:48SPEAKER_02: Because that means that the one internet company or the two that offer semi-okay service, now they don't have a monopoly, so there's a couple more choices.
- 25:57SPEAKER_02: But the people that they're sending are super aggressive.
- 26:01SPEAKER_02: And one of them was actually when I was on a Zoom with somebody, and for seven minutes I listened to their spiel.
- 26:06SPEAKER_02: I'm like, look, I am on a Zoom downstairs.
- 26:10SPEAKER_02: I need to go, but thanks so much for popping by.
- 26:13SPEAKER_02: And then he he said something off-handed to me.
- 26:15SPEAKER_02: I'm like, well, screw off.
- 26:16SPEAKER_02: I'm not interested.
- 26:17SPEAKER_02: And then a fall a week later, I got a girl and she was just as aggressive.
- 26:23SPEAKER_02: And she's like, Well, you don't have a sign-up.
- 26:25SPEAKER_02: I'm like, I guarantee I'm gonna be putting a sign up after you.
- 26:27SPEAKER_02: She's like, all of your neighbors have signed up, you know, FOMO, right?
- 26:30SPEAKER_02: All of your neighbors signed up, you're you're missing out.
- 26:33SPEAKER_02: I'm like, Oh yeah, I already I've already told you I renegotiated my contract with my current internet thing.
- 26:39SPEAKER_02: But if if I had not done that, my internet company would not have called me and said, I have this great deal, right?
- 26:46SPEAKER_00: Yeah, right.
- 26:47SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 26:48SPEAKER_00: So you just never know.
- 26:50SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna tell you guys whenever you become a business owner, and if you market anywhere, you're gonna get a lot of solicitation.
- 27:00SPEAKER_00: Be prepared.
- 27:01SPEAKER_00: You will get a lot of solicitation.
- 27:03SPEAKER_00: Um, if your personal phone and you're scaling, your personal phone number no longer becomes your personal phone number.
- 27:09SPEAKER_00: It is the business.
- 27:10SPEAKER_02: You will have to get a different number.
- 27:13SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 27:13SPEAKER_00: Uh um uh that we that would be great for us to talk about about which apps that have worked well for a lot of people in the end in this industry, one time you know, somewhere down the lay the the way.
- 27:33SPEAKER_02: So definitely so I think that creating a not well, we already talked about a not now list, picking one primary goal per quarter and measure opportunities against that primary goal, because it could be that it and we're all guilty of this.
- 27:48SPEAKER_02: You get to the beginning of the year and they're like, What what are your your goals?
- 27:52SPEAKER_02: Right?
- 27:52SPEAKER_02: Goals what are you gonna do to celebrate the new year?
- 27:54SPEAKER_02: And what do you are you gonna do this, this, and this?
- 27:56SPEAKER_02: And then I think that usually you should check in at least quarterly.
- 28:01SPEAKER_02: And sometimes the bit the goal at the beginning of the year is not the same goal in third quarter, right?
- 28:06SPEAKER_02: Don't it's different or something else has come up to light, and you're like, Oh, well, what does this mean?
- 28:11SPEAKER_02: Why is that?
- 28:12SPEAKER_02: So I think that comparing what your end results is and having a very specific, not loose-ended goal is important.
- 28:21SPEAKER_02: So, like if your financial goal is$500,000, take that, divide it by 12, and then divide that by 52 weeks.
- 28:29SPEAKER_02: So you know what that financial goal is, right?
- 28:32SPEAKER_02: I gotta hit, you know, whatever, I can't remember what 50, 500,000 is.
- 28:36SPEAKER_02: Jamie, do you know what that is?
- 28:37SPEAKER_02: But 40 and stuff on the calculator because I can't do it.
- 28:41SPEAKER_00: 47,000 a month or something.
- 28:43SPEAKER_00: Yeah, five.
- 28:44SPEAKER_00: I know 50,000 would be a hundred and or um, I'm sorry, 50,000.
- 28:51SPEAKER_02: Go ahead.
- 28:52SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 28:52SPEAKER_02: So if you were to do 500,000, if that was your goal, hypothetically, you would want to hit 9700, 90, 9600 a week to make that 500,000 goal.
- 29:07SPEAKER_02: So then you're you're you're marking it, you're starting to track in your job or whatever CRM you're doing so that you know and you're paying attention.
- 29:14SPEAKER_02: And then when you're not meeting it, there might be some tweaking that has to happen.
- 29:18SPEAKER_02: Maybe you had an accident and someone broke something that was expensive.
- 29:22SPEAKER_02: Maybe you lost a Jamie mentioned she lost a really good client that she'd had for four years at 275 bucks a pop.
- 29:29SPEAKER_02: What is that?
- 29:29SPEAKER_02: Like seven grand, six grand for the year?
- 29:32SPEAKER_02: That's an expensive.
- 29:32SPEAKER_02: It's a lot of money.
- 29:34SPEAKER_02: It's a lot of money.
- 29:35SPEAKER_02: And it's it's a lot of money.
- 29:37SPEAKER_02: So you got to start tracking all that stuff so that you can make sure that you are not getting sidetracked by the shiny objects.
- 29:46SPEAKER_02: And then finishing, systemizing, and intentionally abandon what you already started before you add more.
- 29:53SPEAKER_02: So don't add in 400 projects like I have ChatGPT, unless you're able to finish, you know, you have to get really intentional.
- 30:03SPEAKER_00: You have to really get intentional, or at least for me, some people can run 400 projects at a time.
- 30:11SPEAKER_00: I cannot.
- 30:13SPEAKER_00: And this my whole heart and focus is this business and making it to where this is a great place to work.
- 30:24SPEAKER_00: Now now it's like instead of get get all the clients, now it's I want to be the best employer in this area, you know.
- 30:34SPEAKER_02: Um so implementing what you're you're purchasing and buying and not having four or five hundred different things, you know, so don't have 400 projects in Chat GPT.
- 30:51SPEAKER_02: I have them because I come up with ideas, but doesn't mean I'm completing 400 projects in a year.
- 30:56SPEAKER_02: It just means that I have them there to keep track of in case I pull out another brilliant idea and want to work on it.
- 31:02SPEAKER_02: I legitimately only work on six to seven projects in a year.
- 31:07SPEAKER_02: Like when I did the books last year, those were like, oh, I'm gonna do another book, oh, I'm gonna do another book.
- 31:11SPEAKER_02: So I did those.
- 31:12SPEAKER_02: That was my projects for last year.
- 31:15SPEAKER_02: And but it's it's good to have a place, a resource to go back and reference from because if you don't finish what you started, then you then you have you know all of these projects that are open.
- 31:24SPEAKER_02: It can be overwhelming.
- 31:25SPEAKER_02: You could have a panic attack.
- 31:27SPEAKER_02: And I also think, well, go ahead.
- 31:29SPEAKER_00: Yeah, no, panic attacks don't yes.
- 31:33SPEAKER_00: There's times whenever I'm like, and that's those you've heard me say it before, you put one foot in front of the other.
- 31:40SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 31:44SPEAKER_02: It's I get this a lot.
- 31:46SPEAKER_02: It's always at third quarter, and they're like, I'm attrition is a huge part of our industry.
- 31:52SPEAKER_02: It ebbs and flows.
- 31:53SPEAKER_02: But I don't know why it's more prevalent in third quarter, maybe because we're gearing up to fourth quarter.
- 31:58SPEAKER_02: I I'm not sure, but it's the slow sales isn't always another offer.
- 32:04SPEAKER_02: Slow sales could be that maybe your marketing needs to be tweaked.
- 32:08SPEAKER_02: We just talked about how Google changed the algorithm, right?
- 32:10SPEAKER_02: Every time Google does something, everybody else has to do a different dance.
- 32:14SPEAKER_02: They no longer get to do the same dance, they have to do a different dance, right?
- 32:18SPEAKER_02: Now and if you're not paying attention, six months can go down the road.
- 32:23SPEAKER_02: And you're like, why am I eating all this money, right?
- 32:26SPEAKER_02: So you gotta pay attention to what's working versus not working.
- 32:29SPEAKER_02: Sorry, I keep getting all these calls, and then it kicks the drive out of the way.
- 32:33SPEAKER_00: Um, so and it ends up taking Yeah, it ends up taking more time and money away from something else that you could be doing.
- 32:44SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 32:44SPEAKER_02: And if it's not working, don't hold on.
- 32:47SPEAKER_02: If you're paying three grand and it's not working, don't keep paying three thousand dollars to Google.
- 32:53SPEAKER_02: Like begging it for to to work for you.
- 32:56SPEAKER_01: Take my money, take my money.
- 32:59SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 33:02SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you don't need to pursue every opportunity just because you're capable of doing it.
- 33:09SPEAKER_00: The business that looks boring behind the scenes are often the ones making the most consistent profit.
- 33:15SPEAKER_00: You haven't seen me a lot on um if you know, inside the groups like I was giving, you know, more experiences, and that's because I did a lot this summer and I had to pump the brakes and implement what I'm actually learning instead of going on to the next shiny thing, you know?
- 33:41SPEAKER_02: It's just interesting.
- 33:43SPEAKER_02: And then the I think a big question is how do you tell the difference between a genuine opportunity and a shiny object?
- 33:52SPEAKER_00: I I think that if you can't see that that thing is going to push your business forward, cut it.
- 34:02SPEAKER_00: You gotta cut it.
- 34:04SPEAKER_00: Cut the strings and learn to, you know, pick because uh again, we're we're wasting our time on you know, if the Lego fit or if the puzzle piece does not fit, don't keep trying to punch it in there because that is whenever you know that it's not working, and then you're gonna find that puzzle piece that will put it be put in just simply and you're like, Oh, well, there it is.
- 34:38SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 34:38SPEAKER_02: There it is, and it always comes from the most unexpected avenue, too.
- 34:42SPEAKER_02: You're like, Well, I didn't see it.
- 34:46SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it just uh it's such a gradual thing, but there's also moments whenever you know that something is working because boy, you get you get I get at least I do, I'm like on fire.
- 35:01SPEAKER_00: I'm like, yes, yes.
- 35:04SPEAKER_00: Like almost like after you give birth.
- 35:08SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 35:08SPEAKER_02: You're like celebrate with me.
- 35:10SPEAKER_02: I totally love that.
- 35:11SPEAKER_02: And then what have you stayed consistent with long enough to finally see it work?
- 35:19SPEAKER_02: I know this summer has been different than other seasons in the p past.
- 35:25SPEAKER_00: I think taking small actionable steps right, taking small actionable, yeah, um staying constantly feeding my brain and learning that is what I have stayed consistent with.
- 35:45SPEAKER_00: And whenever I am not in coaching or something, I'll you know, once this subscription, we'll call it like that, ends, I'm gonna pump I'll pump the brakes.
- 35:58SPEAKER_00: Even though I'm still implementing, I will pump the brakes and let myself breathe for a second, stabilize, and then learn, keep learning, like keep pumping my brain and implementing, and then I'll go back to whatever shiny object I, you know, but it has to propel the business forward.
- 36:25SPEAKER_02: That is if it's not meeting your financial goals or providing more stable employment goals or whatever goals you have for your business, it might not be worth getting because it's easy, it's easy when someone comes up to you, especially with marketing and you've never marketed before and you're still trying to figure it out.
- 36:44SPEAKER_02: Like you guys have all heard me talk about marketing on a pizza box or marketing on the shopping cart.
- 36:49SPEAKER_02: Those are not avenues for cleaning businesses.
- 36:52SPEAKER_02: I don't think they're really avenues for anything.
- 36:53SPEAKER_02: Nobody, I I've never heard of anyone going, I found you on a pizza box.
- 36:59SPEAKER_00: That's I see them on the shopping carts or uh right.
- 37:03SPEAKER_02: And nobody's looking there unless you have a kid and you're plopping your kid in there, and even then you're putting a cover on it now.
- 37:09SPEAKER_02: So that's not working either, right?
- 37:11SPEAKER_00: Right, exactly.
- 37:12SPEAKER_00: No, it's not.
- 37:13SPEAKER_00: Well, no, I I don't think that would work.
- 37:16SPEAKER_00: I I even thought about advertising on the bus, and I was like, no.
- 37:23SPEAKER_00: There's some things that trust me, I I I have to probably usually go to Shannon and be like, so let me run this by you.
- 37:34SPEAKER_00: And and she'll tell me to pump the brakes, you know, like wait.
- 37:38SPEAKER_00: Uh I think it was one of them was um billboard.
- 37:46SPEAKER_00: I th long, long way before I was ready for a billboard.
- 37:52SPEAKER_00: I think you're getting close to it though now.
- 37:54SPEAKER_00: Yeah, we're we're now a little different, but then I wasn't I w the I wasn't ready for that, you know?
- 38:01SPEAKER_00: And learning how to do all this cash flow and stuff, I think that we need to have a little idea of QuickBooks, just you know, at least the bare basics of of or um marketing, the bare basics before you go on to the shiny object and hire, go straight to hiring.
- 38:25SPEAKER_00: If you can afford that and you're like, hey, I got it, cool, but small, let's take small baby steps.
- 38:32SPEAKER_00: Not everybody, um not everybody is fortunate enough to like, you know, they're just taking care of themselves.
- 38:44SPEAKER_00: A lot of us are parents, and they're no shade to anybody that is solo and by themselves out there, and they just need to take care of them themselves.
- 38:56SPEAKER_00: But we have families we run a household and we run a business as well.
- 39:05SPEAKER_00: Um so small but baby steps as we go along is right.
- 39:14SPEAKER_02: I think especially with marketing, uh, there the evolution of marketing back in the day in the 80s and 90s and 2000s, you went to a marketing agency and you paid the marketing agency to advertise with you, and they especially loved when you came up to them and said, I have 50 grand.
- 39:30SPEAKER_02: What can you do for me?
- 39:31SPEAKER_02: And they're like, hot damn, this person just told me that they have 50 grand, 50 fucking grand.
- 39:37SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 39:37SPEAKER_02: And then you're like, they're dumping around, doing the dance because they're like, yeah, I get commission off all this.
- 39:41SPEAKER_02: When in reality, you didn't specifically say what you wanted to spend the 50 grand on.
- 39:45SPEAKER_02: And then we had the evolution of Photoshop.
- 39:48SPEAKER_02: Photoshop came around, then everyone started to become an expert on what worked and what didn't work.
- 39:53SPEAKER_02: And then Canva came on board, right?
- 39:56SPEAKER_02: Canva was like, woo, oh my God, this is way easier to operate than Photoshop, right?
- 40:01SPEAKER_02: Because it came with tutorials, it came with a scheduling planner, it came with all the things.
- 40:06SPEAKER_02: And then at the same time with Canva, Facebook also had their own like DIY thing.
- 40:11SPEAKER_02: So then we had all of these DIY people who could do all of these graphic designer type things.
- 40:16SPEAKER_02: And now, now it's I don't even, I hardly ever go into my chat, not my chat GPT, my Canva account.
- 40:24SPEAKER_02: I still do for certain things, but mostly everything is generated in ChatGPT.
- 40:28SPEAKER_02: It doesn't take very long.
- 40:29SPEAKER_02: You don't have to figure out where they put things, where they didn't put things.
- 40:33SPEAKER_02: It's become more instantaneous.
- 40:36SPEAKER_02: But you have to have a path and proof, right?
- 40:40SPEAKER_02: If you just take money and you throw it certain here and throw it over there, it it may work, it may not work.
- 40:46SPEAKER_02: Then then now we have not just Chat GPT, we have bots.
- 40:50SPEAKER_02: I talked to someone the other day who has a hundred different bots doing 100 different things.
- 40:56SPEAKER_02: I was like, right.
- 40:57SPEAKER_02: I'm like, they're all agents.
- 40:59SPEAKER_02: Is that working for you?
- 41:00SPEAKER_02: Is that not working for you?
- 41:02SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 41:02SPEAKER_02: And then you go, well, we're a human-based industry.
- 41:06SPEAKER_02: I don't want to talk to a bot when I'm calling a cleaning company.
- 41:09SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 41:09SPEAKER_02: Well, will having a bot be norm now in the next year or so?
- 41:12SPEAKER_00: We'll see.
- 41:13SPEAKER_00: Well, yeah, we are let me tell you, we're talking about shiny object syndrome.
- 41:19SPEAKER_00: It's not um, I have a bot.
- 41:22unknown: Right.
- 41:22SPEAKER_00: I have a bot.
- 41:23SPEAKER_00: I have a do I need a bot?
- 41:25SPEAKER_00: Right?
- 41:26SPEAKER_00: Everybody put us a bot.
- 41:27SPEAKER_00: How come I don't have one?
- 41:28SPEAKER_00: I've gotten to where I die, I can't even answer my phone.
- 41:32SPEAKER_00: It's just I I let my bot answer.
- 41:37SPEAKER_00: Her name's Emily.
- 41:39SPEAKER_00: And then I make it funny.
- 41:41SPEAKER_00: I'm like, how'd you like talking to Emily?
- 41:43SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 41:44SPEAKER_02: And you you made your own bot, or you have someone who made a bot for you who made previously is uh open phone.
- 41:53SPEAKER_00: So yeah.
- 41:54SPEAKER_00: And and it's same, I tried to use Jobber's bot and just wasn't there.
- 42:02SPEAKER_00: No, it just at that time though, and it's coming so fast.
- 42:08SPEAKER_00: Things are coming so fast, it's like, well, I'm gonna go ahead and grab on this before I get left behind in the dust, too, because that's the that's where we're at, you guys, nowadays.
- 42:20SPEAKER_00: But you don't have to buy everything, do learn stuff to a degree.
- 42:25SPEAKER_00: Learn your numbers is huge.
- 42:29SPEAKER_00: And learning how to use like QuickBooks or whatever's uh software you use, but um yeah, you don't need another ideal, you just simply need to finish, repeat, and promote the one you already have.
- 42:46SPEAKER_00: It's the same business, right?
- 42:48SPEAKER_00: Everybody, we're all running the same business.
- 42:53SPEAKER_00: And get the get different ideas and put it, you know, from definitely so don't get sucked into all the shiny objects.
- 43:04SPEAKER_00: Thank you.
- 43:05SPEAKER_02: And um and don't be tempted because it is.
- 43:07SPEAKER_02: You're like, woohoo, I'm gonna do it, I'm gonna do it.
- 43:10SPEAKER_02: And then sometimes the shiny objects is like a bad date, right?
- 43:14SPEAKER_02: So you're like, this isn't working out, it gotta go, man.
- 43:18SPEAKER_02: See you later.
- 43:20SPEAKER_02: But yeah, we're always happy if you have questions for us.
- 43:24SPEAKER_02: I do have the application for the scholarship of the structure scale and profit cleaning business academy.
- 43:29SPEAKER_02: For those of you who do not know, I think I still am the only cleaning business coach that does this once a year.
- 43:35SPEAKER_02: It's my signature program valued at over$3,000.
- 43:38SPEAKER_02: And then it comes with monthly group coaching.
- 43:41SPEAKER_02: So you can add another, hypothetically, two grand on top of that.
- 43:45SPEAKER_02: So it is a$5,000 scholarship that you should apply.
- 43:49SPEAKER_02: If you've applied in the past, we've gone over some um basic tutorials on how to make your application more appeasing to the people who read the applications.
- 44:01SPEAKER_02: Last year we had 381 people apply, and Jenny Bean won it last year.
- 44:06SPEAKER_02: So I'm super excited.
- 44:07SPEAKER_02: And it's right on my website, cleanfreaksuniversity.com.
- 44:12SPEAKER_02: That's K L E A N F R E A K S University.com.
- 44:17SPEAKER_02: I look forward to your questions.
- 44:18SPEAKER_02: Jamie always likes to have questions when she's not in the thick of whatever's going on right now in her business, and we look forward to hearing from you guys soon.
- 44:27SPEAKER_02: So take care.
- 44:28SPEAKER_02: You guys.
