- 0:35Speaker 3: Getting Ready for Christmas?
- 0:38Speaker 1: Getting ready for Yead was like the baby Jesus born
- 0:43Speaker 1: at Christmas Day in swaddling clothes.
- 0:47Speaker 4: That's what mother says. My mother tell the story.
- 0:50Speaker 5: She's like I was out shopping in my water Brook
- 0:53Speaker 5: on the subway.
- 0:54Speaker 1: I thought she was going to say, we were looking
- 0:55Speaker 1: for a place to stay and no one would. We
- 0:58Speaker 1: finally found barn. When you lose anyone who is a
- 1:02Speaker 1: starter or a next in game like every other team.
- 1:06Speaker 3: But it's when it's when you lose Joe Burrow that
- 1:08Speaker 3: you separate.
- 1:09Speaker 1: But can you can you let me finish?
- 1:11Speaker 4: He had never identified a mic point in his life
- 1:14Speaker 4: until he came to New England.
- 1:15Speaker 3: I don't think he knows much about. But anyway, go ahead, right,
- 1:18Speaker 3: you're all out of your mind. I really do think
- 1:21Speaker 3: you're out of your mind. Do you think he didn't
- 1:23Speaker 3: know how to read a defense?
- 1:25Speaker 1: I don't.
- 1:25Speaker 4: Okay, this playbook was as sophisticated as anything for anybody,
- 1:32Speaker 4: for him, for anybody beside him.
- 1:34Speaker 3: To give you a laundry Tory Holt said the same thing.
- 1:37Speaker 1: I just think identifying the mic is overrated. Don't you
- 1:40Speaker 1: think it's like, you know, is it a kind of
- 1:42Speaker 1: a guess?
- 1:43Speaker 3: You know?
- 1:44Speaker 1: This is Patriots Unfiltered.
- 1:47Speaker 6: Presented by Toyota's official website. For deals, buy a Toyota
- 1:50Speaker 6: dot com.
- 1:53Speaker 1: Hey, Mike, I just identified the mic.
- 1:56Speaker 3: It's it's overrated.
- 1:57Speaker 1: It's overrated.
- 1:58Speaker 4: Why don't we go into a game and never identify
- 2:00Speaker 4: the MICAE Let's see how it goes?
- 2:02Speaker 7: Okay, but if you just identified something else, like the Paul.
- 2:05Speaker 1: Yeah, there is no point.
- 2:06Speaker 3: Yeah, well.
- 2:08Speaker 1: About what I'm going to identify the Sam.
- 2:10Speaker 3: The problem is when you when you point to Will
- 2:13Speaker 3: and it's there is a say it's the mic, right
- 2:16Speaker 3: now you have Sam. That's not how I'm gonna I'm
- 2:18Speaker 3: gonna identify the robber.
- 2:20Speaker 7: Oh yeah, yeah, with the Star. You should because you might.
- 2:23Speaker 7: You know, all of this is just day here.
- 2:29Speaker 3: It's football one with this is this is the last thing.
- 2:34Speaker 7: It's a preview of illustrator.
- 2:37Speaker 4: I'm just that the mic is not actually the mic linebacker.
- 2:40Speaker 4: We're all aware, correct, right.
- 2:41Speaker 7: Yes, I thought it was just a guy named Mike
- 2:43Speaker 7: on the defense.
- 2:44Speaker 4: Right, No, no, no, Michael, when you it's a bit,
- 2:47Speaker 4: it's a misconception that when he says, oh, fifty four
- 2:50Speaker 4: is the mic, that that means that he's the mic
- 2:52Speaker 4: linebacker in the defense. It's not.
- 2:54Speaker 1: So why do they call it the mic?
- 2:56Speaker 4: Just the terminology.
- 2:57Speaker 3: It's the middle of yeah.
- 3:00Speaker 4: And you know the Patriots they have playing.
- 3:03Speaker 1: Here's the guy that we're going to key our blocking
- 3:05Speaker 1: scheme on. It's not key.
- 3:08Speaker 4: This is none of this is right, guys.
- 3:10Speaker 3: Otherwise you could just point to like John Bentley every
- 3:13Speaker 3: place it's the mic because he's the middle linebacker in
- 3:17Speaker 3: the Patriots defense.
- 3:17Speaker 7: Like the millennials like this guy's mid right, here's mid. Yeah,
- 3:21Speaker 7: I talk the language. Now, I'm hip.
- 3:24Speaker 3: You are very you are very hip.
- 3:27Speaker 1: All right, welcome that filtered. It is Wednesday here at
- 3:33Speaker 1: Gillette Stadium. I feel my mic is hot hot hot.
- 3:37Speaker 3: Like I got to turn down by still you are
- 3:40Speaker 3: coming out of the show spitting fire.
- 3:42Speaker 7: Yeah, sure could identified me.
- 3:47Speaker 1: Denver just got under another day closer. We're thinking maybe
- 3:51Speaker 1: snow in Denver for Sunday.
- 3:54Speaker 7: I mean, I hope so for you guys, that'll be beautiful.
- 3:56Speaker 3: A member of the football stat I want to be
- 3:58Speaker 3: able to get home. Tell me that they thought there
- 4:00Speaker 3: was a chance was like snow showers during the game.
- 4:03Speaker 1: I remember remember Buffalo when they would have snow showers,
- 4:06Speaker 1: was like a blizzard.
- 4:07Speaker 3: Snow showers in Buffalo. Man, you weren't getting home the next.
- 4:10Speaker 4: Day, right, That's what I'm worried about it.
- 4:11Speaker 7: Imagine Denver's pretty bad that too, right with the showers
- 4:13Speaker 7: and stuff.
- 4:14Speaker 1: Well, like I know the day before the game is
- 4:16Speaker 1: going to be like in the sixties. That's that's what
- 4:18Speaker 1: happens in Denver. It is.
- 4:20Speaker 3: That's not sexy, wild sexy at all.
- 4:22Speaker 7: I had a friend who lived in Colorado, and it
- 4:23Speaker 7: was always amazing to me how she talked about the
- 4:26Speaker 7: climate there, because you think it's cold, but it really
- 4:28Speaker 7: swings very warm, very cold, Like it's not what you
- 4:30Speaker 7: would think being up there in the Rockies, Right, My.
- 4:32Speaker 8: Sister lived there for a couple of months and she
- 4:34Speaker 8: said it was kind of like New England.
- 4:36Speaker 7: Yeah, she come, does she brag about how warm it
- 4:37Speaker 7: actually is. That's what I got a lot of them
- 4:39Speaker 7: from my friend. She was always saying how great it
- 4:41Speaker 7: is there, but a lot of bitterness whatever from my
- 4:44Speaker 7: stupid Colorado.
- 4:46Speaker 1: Yeah. I think I think if there's any Inland place
- 4:49Speaker 1: I had to live, it would be like Denver would
- 4:51Speaker 1: be one of them.
- 4:52Speaker 7: Oh it's beautiful there. I've been there a couple of times.
- 4:55Speaker 4: I've never been, so I'm never you're going to check
- 4:57Speaker 4: one off.
- 4:57Speaker 3: You're going to check one off.
- 4:58Speaker 4: I am. I'm excited about that. That's about it cool.
- 5:04Speaker 5: Inland.
- 5:04Speaker 3: I think I live in Tennessee.
- 5:06Speaker 1: Really Yeah, why country music?
- 5:10Speaker 7: Taxes beautiful?
- 5:13Speaker 3: You have a lot of wealth that you yet But
- 5:17Speaker 3: she's taking ahead about the contest that she's gonna win.
- 5:21Speaker 3: She's trying to figure out what's she going to do
- 5:22Speaker 3: with all that to hide this money.
- 5:24Speaker 4: That is the most alex answer I've ever heard, not like,
- 5:28Speaker 4: oh it's beautiful there. The taxes wait, like you don't
- 5:32Speaker 4: have to all the time. You can just think about it,
- 5:35Speaker 4: not that practically, am I Yes?
- 5:38Speaker 8: I like my money in my bank account count. I
- 5:43Speaker 8: just think Tennessee is a beautiful city. I think it's
- 5:44Speaker 8: really underrated Nashville.
- 5:47Speaker 1: Yeah about the rest of skirts, she said tenn is
- 5:51Speaker 1: not a city.
- 5:52Speaker 3: Oh I thought she said beautiful skirts of Nashville for sure.
- 5:55Speaker 4: Yeah, it's a pretty state.
- 5:56Speaker 7: I don't know.
- 5:57Speaker 5: We're talking Inland. I wouldn't want to live anywhere Inland.
- 6:00Speaker 1: Yeah, right right, but if I had to, sure, Denver
- 6:04Speaker 1: would be a place.
- 6:05Speaker 7: Yeah, it's a place.
- 6:06Speaker 4: This is the start of a three and eleven shows.
- 6:09Speaker 1: Okay, So David and he just saw Zappy.
- 6:14Speaker 4: I did see him, Yeah, yeah, he was there.
- 6:15Speaker 1: And what did he have to say?
- 6:17Speaker 4: Well, you know, I think a lot of people right now,
- 6:20Speaker 4: fans us, everybody is just wondering, you know, what are
- 6:24Speaker 4: you playing for? Well, what's what's sort of your motivation
- 6:27Speaker 4: at this point of the season with the record being
- 6:29Speaker 4: what it is. And he just mentioned that he would
- 6:32Speaker 4: like to put together four quarters of of good football.
- 6:35Speaker 4: And I think that that's what we're all looking to
- 6:37Speaker 4: see if can you do it? You know, he's played
- 6:40Speaker 4: two good halves. Really, I mean I can. I don't
- 6:43Speaker 4: know about the Chiefs half was it was good. It
- 6:45Speaker 4: wasn't as good as Pittsburgh, but it was good. And
- 6:47Speaker 4: he's been a good quarterback in both those halves, and
- 6:50Speaker 4: in the second half he's a completely different person. It's
- 6:52Speaker 4: it's completely.
- 6:54Speaker 1: Somebody one of the players should say, well, what's your
- 6:56Speaker 1: motivation for covering us? I say, well, it's our job.
- 6:58Speaker 1: Saying it's my job.
- 7:01Speaker 4: That's fair, you know, Yeah, I mean he just said,
- 7:03Speaker 4: you know, they're they're playing for themselves at this point,
- 7:06Speaker 4: which I get. But I think that in some areas
- 7:10Speaker 4: of the team, some people are playing for themselves a
- 7:12Speaker 4: little bit too much, if you catch my drift.
- 7:15Speaker 1: But freelancing, I caught that drift.
- 7:19Speaker 4: He said, what for ourselves? Like playing for pride? Thank you?
- 7:24Speaker 4: That's what That's what he was insinuating. But when he
- 7:28Speaker 4: when he said that, I thought of a few people
- 7:30Speaker 4: that I thought might be playing for themselves themselves, you know.
- 7:35Speaker 7: Care to elaborate at all?
- 7:36Speaker 3: Maybe okay, maybe then they'll apologize tomorrow.
- 7:40Speaker 7: Yeah I was wrong to call them out.
- 7:44Speaker 3: Yeah, Fred, I get your you know, the your job,
- 7:48Speaker 3: you know that, that's why we're all doing this too.
- 7:50Speaker 3: But don't you feel like we're doing it differently than
- 7:52Speaker 3: we normally would at this time of year, like we're
- 7:54Speaker 3: talking about different, that's right, And I think that's a
- 7:58Speaker 3: fair question from the media to wonder have the play
- 8:02Speaker 3: I mean, obviously the players have a job to do.
- 8:05Speaker 3: They're gonna go out and play and play as hard
- 8:07Speaker 3: as they can. But you just wonder, is the motivation different,
- 8:10Speaker 3: you know, for Kyle Duger today at three and eleven,
- 8:13Speaker 3: then it would be at eleven and three, right, Yeah,
- 8:16Speaker 3: And you know, I think that's just like you brought
- 8:18Speaker 3: up Kyle duggar.
- 8:19Speaker 7: Oh, such as therefore here two four I do. I mean,
- 8:27Speaker 7: I forget that. At least for us though, too. We
- 8:29Speaker 7: kind of have this like growing energy about the off
- 8:31Speaker 7: season that like, I mean, it's it's exciting, it's also
- 8:34Speaker 7: a little bit daunting when you know, you feel like
- 8:37Speaker 7: usually get to the end of the season and you're like,
- 8:38Speaker 7: all right, I have a chance to catch my breath,
- 8:40Speaker 7: and now it feels like it's all okay, this is
- 8:42Speaker 7: actually the off season now, because the off season is
- 8:44Speaker 7: gonna be the season this you know, spring, it's gonna
- 8:46Speaker 7: be crazy, all those things that we're looking forward to.
- 8:49Speaker 7: But you know, I think that's a little bit of
- 8:50Speaker 7: energy that's carrying me through these last few weeks of
- 8:52Speaker 7: just and I think anytime you get to see a
- 8:54Speaker 7: guy like Kevin Harris get out there in the field
- 8:55Speaker 7: and you know, run and running, have a big run,
- 8:58Speaker 7: run tough.
- 8:58Speaker 1: You know. Obviously I'll never had the experience of being
- 9:01Speaker 1: a professional athlete, but I would think that in a
- 9:04Speaker 1: situation like this, while you're not playing to get to
- 9:08Speaker 1: the playoffs or anything like that, I'd look at it
- 9:10Speaker 1: as an opportunity to say, how how can I just
- 9:13Speaker 1: be the best player I can possibly be? And you
- 9:17Speaker 1: sort of don't have that pressure of, you know, we
- 9:19Speaker 1: have to win the game now, I just have to
- 9:22Speaker 1: focus on I have to do the best I can
- 9:24Speaker 1: do because everyone's watching me, you know. Yeah, I mean,
- 9:28Speaker 1: I mean I could find motivation in other words.
- 9:30Speaker 7: And it's still like you're just you're playing a game
- 9:32Speaker 7: in front of yeah, tens of thousands of I mean,
- 9:37Speaker 7: I mean, it's got to be a little bit easy.
- 9:39Speaker 7: That's so sure to block out.
- 9:42Speaker 3: I'm serious. Like Christmas Eve. Did you watch any of
- 9:44Speaker 3: the Christmas Eve game last year? Like I didn't.
- 9:47Speaker 1: Who was playing?
- 9:48Speaker 3: I don't even know, I don't know.
- 9:49Speaker 4: I remember, yeah.
- 9:50Speaker 7: I was drinking eggnog and whiskey or something.
- 9:53Speaker 3: Yeah, not this week, Like I just look at some
- 9:56Speaker 3: of this stuff.
- 9:57Speaker 1: It's a holiday ask kick I mean Classics.
- 10:00Speaker 3: One of the one of the best games of the
- 10:02Speaker 3: year is going to be uh in primetime on Christmas Night.
- 10:08Speaker 3: That that bums me out. Like you know, Buffalo, I
- 10:11Speaker 3: mean Baltimore San Francisco. That's a good matchup, might beat
- 10:14Speaker 3: the super Bowl. And I don't know to put it.
- 10:17Speaker 3: I mean to put it on Christmas.
- 10:19Speaker 1: Christmas, I got time, the kids have open all the packages.
- 10:23Speaker 1: Now you can settle down.
- 10:24Speaker 3: I just don't really have much interest in watching sports
- 10:27Speaker 3: on at Christmas.
- 10:29Speaker 4: Celtics Slackers at five, So yeah, like.
- 10:32Speaker 3: I'm sure to be on in the background, but I
- 10:34Speaker 3: won't watch it like I would a normal game.
- 10:36Speaker 7: Oh no, like just taking notes mentally.
- 10:38Speaker 3: Oh, I'm with my at all. I'm with my family.
- 10:41Speaker 3: I'm enjoying family time. I'm not into a game Christmas
- 10:45Speaker 3: Eve night, I mean Christmas Eve, especially because that's like
- 10:48Speaker 3: happening at night Christmas Day. Fred's right, you know, everything's
- 10:52Speaker 3: kind of done by eight o'clock. Maybe you could watch
- 10:55Speaker 3: San Francisco in Baltimore. But I got a question, I
- 10:58Speaker 3: wouldn't watch a Christmas eve time time.
- 11:00Speaker 7: Get a little off the beaten path. We used to
- 11:02Speaker 7: be in the spot though, if you're those two teams
- 11:03Speaker 7: San Francisco Baltimore, you're coming into this game or are
- 11:06Speaker 7: you putting everything into it? Are you thinking any bit
- 11:08Speaker 7: of potential Super Bowl matchups? Are you?
- 11:10Speaker 3: You know?
- 11:10Speaker 7: Are you are you feeling like we need to win
- 11:12Speaker 7: this game? You know? What will be kind of I mean,
- 11:15Speaker 7: I know the Patriots have had games like I mean,
- 11:16Speaker 7: I'm not thinking of many off the top of my head,
- 11:18Speaker 7: but I don't want to say potential super Bowl preview,
- 11:20Speaker 7: but they had they need to get.
- 11:22Speaker 3: The number one seed.
- 11:23Speaker 4: Though, Yeah, I actually I think they'll they'll hide some things,
- 11:27Speaker 4: Yeah for sure.
- 11:28Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean you're set some things up even.
- 11:30Speaker 7: I mean is that you.
- 11:31Speaker 4: Know, just especially like for those two teams, because their
- 11:34Speaker 4: offenses are so unique for different reasons that you know,
- 11:37Speaker 4: if you're the Ravens, like, are you really going to
- 11:39Speaker 4: run Lamar Jackson a bunch in this game?
- 11:41Speaker 1: No?
- 11:41Speaker 4: But if you're in the super Bowl, You're going to
- 11:42Speaker 4: run Lamar Jackson twenty times, you know. So I definitely
- 11:46Speaker 4: think that those that game will not be anything, like
- 11:48Speaker 4: if there is a Super Bowl between those two teams.
- 11:51Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean I think some of the Patriots Colts games,
- 11:53Speaker 7: good question. You know, Patriots Colts games, not that they
- 11:55Speaker 7: were all this late in the season, but you know,
- 11:57Speaker 7: just how they were kind of different. I mean, at
- 11:59Speaker 7: least you know three was what that was, you know,
- 12:02Speaker 7: a little bit more low scoring, whereas the first one
- 12:04Speaker 7: was really back and forth, and you know, in the thirties,
- 12:07Speaker 7: so that.
- 12:07Speaker 3: Was all about the venue. Yeah, like if they played
- 12:10Speaker 3: in the playoffs in Indy, it would have been another shoot.
- 12:12Speaker 7: Yeah, that's good point.
- 12:13Speaker 3: Now the Patriots might have won again. You know, the
- 12:16Speaker 3: Patriots could beat you anyway back in those days, low scoring,
- 12:19Speaker 3: high scoring, whatever you wanted.
- 12:21Speaker 7: It's just now it feels like you get down to
- 12:23Speaker 7: the NFL schedule and it's like these key games pop
- 12:25Speaker 7: up and you're like, ooh, you know, two teams that
- 12:27Speaker 7: you know could meet in the Super Bowl, could meet
- 12:28Speaker 7: in the AFC Championship. You start to get those little
- 12:30Speaker 7: nuggets at the end of the season, or it's like
- 12:32Speaker 7: crappy division games where one team has nothing to play
- 12:35Speaker 7: for and the other team is just getting ready.
- 12:36Speaker 3: I like Evan's point about the unique nature of the
- 12:38Speaker 3: two offenses though, because that's that's true. Like you, I
- 12:42Speaker 3: think you can go all out to win and not
- 12:44Speaker 3: necessarily call every play that you would in a desperate situation,
- 12:48Speaker 3: or it's not necessarily holding something back. It's just kind
- 12:51Speaker 3: of doing what's best for the team in the moment.
- 12:53Speaker 3: And to Evan's point, is running Lamar Jackson fifteen twenty
- 12:57Speaker 3: times best for you in week sixteen? Probably not.
- 13:01Speaker 7: I just wonder how much of the potential next matchup
- 13:04Speaker 7: is on their mind, just in terms of, Hey, how
- 13:05Speaker 7: are they going to react when we throw this at them?
- 13:08Speaker 7: You know, those kind of just little tests that you're
- 13:10Speaker 7: kind of maybe a little.
- 13:10Speaker 3: Better trial balloons. I like it.
- 13:13Speaker 1: Yeah, they also there's a road that you have to
- 13:16Speaker 1: go through to get there.
- 13:17Speaker 7: And no, I know that's that's I mean, and I
- 13:19Speaker 7: don't think you they'd ever share that with the players.
- 13:21Speaker 7: That would probably just be hey, let's throw this package
- 13:23Speaker 7: at them just to see how they kind of what
- 13:25Speaker 7: they line up against it in.
- 13:28Speaker 1: I mean, that's an interesting way trying to get outside,
- 13:31Speaker 1: trying to get intelligence on the other team.
- 13:33Speaker 4: I definitely what do they do?
- 13:35Speaker 3: What do they do when.
- 13:36Speaker 1: We do this? Yeah?
- 13:37Speaker 7: Well, I know that that's always you know, and that's
- 13:39Speaker 7: a kind of a bill thing of you know, is
- 13:40Speaker 7: the game is establishing itself, and all right, we see
- 13:43Speaker 7: we're going to throw a bunch of personnel groups at
- 13:44Speaker 7: them and see, you know how they play us? You know,
- 13:46Speaker 7: what do they you know, how do they treat our
- 13:47Speaker 7: tight ends and that kind of stuff. So I don't know,
- 13:49Speaker 7: just some experimenting. I don't think it's anything that should
- 13:52Speaker 7: reach the psyche of the team, but you know, for
- 13:54Speaker 7: the coaching staff, maybe like, hey, let's let's try to
- 13:56Speaker 7: get a little bit of intel out of this in
- 13:57Speaker 7: case we need it down the road.
- 13:59Speaker 4: See that's real, is a nose talk.
- 14:00Speaker 1: Let's go of you.
- 14:02Speaker 7: That's right.
- 14:02Speaker 3: I thought it was a good question. I hadn't really
- 14:04Speaker 3: even just looked at it.
- 14:06Speaker 7: I mean, it's just well, Fred identified me as the
- 14:08Speaker 7: mic and you came through.
- 14:11Speaker 4: We're gonna are we gonna read it? Linda?
- 14:13Speaker 9: Now?
- 14:14Speaker 7: Probably not, but we're hoping to run leak on that,
- 14:17Speaker 7: so you know, that'll be great.
- 14:18Speaker 3: I like Stick.
- 14:20Speaker 4: I can talk to every high school team in the
- 14:22Speaker 4: country like Stick.
- 14:24Speaker 3: Just I make fun of Brady for that. It's like
- 14:25Speaker 3: the old clip when he's talking it, Drew and like,
- 14:29Speaker 3: you know, what do you want to what do you like?
- 14:30Speaker 7: I like stick literally, which is not surprising, right, like
- 14:35Speaker 7: a young quarter.
- 14:38Speaker 3: White white head.
- 14:41Speaker 4: Should mention that David Andrews won the Good Guy Award
- 14:45Speaker 4: this year.
- 14:46Speaker 3: I did not know that and was not asked to vote.
- 14:48Speaker 1: Explain what that is.
- 14:49Speaker 3: So it's the.
- 14:50Speaker 4: Media Good Guy Award, which is basically who represents and
- 14:54Speaker 4: fulfills their media obligations the best represents the team and
- 14:59Speaker 4: works with the media the best throughout the player, all
- 15:02Speaker 4: the players, and you know past winners, Uh, we've had
- 15:05Speaker 4: Jacoby Myers obviously, Devin mccordy, Matthew Slater, those types of guys.
- 15:11Speaker 4: Cam Newton actually won it the year he was here.
- 15:14Speaker 4: Judn won it last year, yep.
- 15:16Speaker 3: And uh, and Jacoby was a couple of years ago.
- 15:21Speaker 4: For ju Judna was two years ago. Jacoby was last year. Yeah,
- 15:24Speaker 4: Jacoby won it for his how he handled the Vegas
- 15:28Speaker 4: It was literally over at doubt, the voting was over
- 15:31Speaker 4: at that.
- 15:31Speaker 3: That's a good pick though. Andrews is a good Yeah.
- 15:33Speaker 4: Yeah, I thought that it was. I voted for David
- 15:36Speaker 4: Andrews and I just feel like he coming out after
- 15:41Speaker 4: all these losses, unfortunately, and being the first one to
- 15:45Speaker 4: dress the fans the media post game. I think is
- 15:51Speaker 4: is a real stand up guy. Like he comes on
- 15:53Speaker 4: that podium basically still in uniform, like he's got his
- 15:56Speaker 4: obviously his shoulder pads are off, but his game pants
- 15:59Speaker 4: are still on half the time, and he's just comes
- 16:02Speaker 4: up there and answers questions about why, you know, same questions,
- 16:05Speaker 4: you know, why do you guys lose again? Why why
- 16:07Speaker 4: did this happen? Why did that happen? And has been
- 16:09Speaker 4: a real real stand up guy. I think it shows
- 16:12Speaker 4: a lot that he's the first one every single week
- 16:15Speaker 4: and not a head coach Andrews.
- 16:17Speaker 1: Are there any other offensive linemen that ever go to
- 16:19Speaker 1: the podium.
- 16:22Speaker 4: Like in terms of the post game for the painos, No,
- 16:27Speaker 4: not really no.
- 16:28Speaker 10: No.
- 16:29Speaker 7: He also just wears his heart on his sleeve. And
- 16:32Speaker 7: you know, of all the players that like, maybe does
- 16:34Speaker 7: this matter to them, like it clearly matters to him
- 16:36Speaker 7: after every loan, his losses, you can just you can
- 16:39Speaker 7: just see it in his face, his body language, everything,
- 16:41Speaker 7: He's He's still taking these tough Yeah.
- 16:43Speaker 4: I mean I understand that this is probably not that
- 16:45Speaker 4: important to fans, but there's been some really really difficult
- 16:51Speaker 4: losses for the team this year and some some losses
- 16:54Speaker 4: that are frankly were not great optics wise. And uh,
- 17:00Speaker 4: him beating Bill to the podium every single time always
- 17:02Speaker 4: sticks with me. It's like, you know, we're in Germany
- 17:06Speaker 4: and Mac throws a game losing interception, Zappy throws a
- 17:11Speaker 4: game losing interception, and it's not the head coach that
- 17:14Speaker 4: goes to the podium first missed a five game losing streak.
- 17:17Speaker 4: It's the center and you know, a player. And I
- 17:22Speaker 4: think that that shows a lot of character on David Andrews.
- 17:27Speaker 1: Awards.
- 17:29Speaker 4: No, no, no act. It's actually a really really nice
- 17:33Speaker 4: piece of crystal and it lights up and has his
- 17:37Speaker 4: face on it and says, yeah, it's actually a really
- 17:39Speaker 4: nice piece of piece of hardware. He's he's got And uh,
- 17:43Speaker 4: then there's a in the media worker room, there's like
- 17:46Speaker 4: a list of all of them on a plaque, and
- 17:48Speaker 4: so his name obviously will go go on the plaque.
- 17:54Speaker 4: It is.
- 17:57Speaker 3: We talked.
- 17:58Speaker 1: Fella is a good guy. Oh yeah, Hobson was awesome,
- 18:02Speaker 1: good dick fame, Yeah, all right, eight five five pats
- 18:11Speaker 1: five hundred is the a sticket Hotline web radio at
- 18:13Speaker 1: patries dot com some other news. Aaron Rodgers said, it's
- 18:16Speaker 1: doubtful and today's the deadline, so.
- 18:19Speaker 4: He's being activated for some reason. But he oh he
- 18:23Speaker 4: is yeah, money, it just came out that he's being activated.
- 18:26Speaker 4: But maybe money, Yeah, maybe, I don't know. But he's
- 18:29Speaker 4: not playing. He's definitely not playing.
- 18:31Speaker 1: Well.
- 18:31Speaker 7: I kind of wanted that, so I wanted him to
- 18:34Speaker 7: play against the Patriots here.
- 18:35Speaker 3: So he's not playing at all, correct, because I know
- 18:39Speaker 3: he has to be activated today in order to be
- 18:41Speaker 3: eligible to play. But I don't really understand why you
- 18:43Speaker 3: would activate him if he's not going to play. My
- 18:46Speaker 3: guess is that he's trying to leave the door open.
- 18:49Speaker 1: I know yesterday he said it he's not ready now yeah,
- 18:53Speaker 1: so I guess.
- 18:54Speaker 4: So according to Schefter, this just came out like twenty
- 18:57Speaker 4: five minutes ago from both guys, he's being activated and
- 19:01Speaker 4: he wants to be activated so he can continue practicing
- 19:05Speaker 4: with the team. But he's not.
- 19:07Speaker 3: But he's not playing, okay, team right? Yeah. I mean
- 19:10Speaker 3: there's a lot of a lot of Aaron Rodgers criticisms
- 19:14Speaker 3: making their way around the Twitter machine today and yesterday,
- 19:18Speaker 3: and listen, I'm no, big Aaron Rodgers guy, I've been fred.
- 19:24Speaker 3: I think I was well ahead of the curve on
- 19:29Speaker 3: sort of you know, reading between the lines of his nonsense.
- 19:34Speaker 3: I caught I caught onto his act I think before
- 19:37Speaker 3: most did. Let's put it that way. He's getting a
- 19:41Speaker 3: lot of criticism for like self destructing the Jets season,
- 19:47Speaker 3: like and I don't really understand that, Like he's an
- 19:50Speaker 3: attention grabber like if no, but he kept himself in
- 19:55Speaker 3: the news all year, like only Aaron Rodgers can. I
- 19:57Speaker 3: think all the criticism of that is one hundred percent inaccurate.
- 20:00Speaker 3: Like he knew that he probably wasn't going to be
- 20:03Speaker 3: able to play. He likes to poke fun at modern medicine,
- 20:07Speaker 3: like I know more than you you know, I can
- 20:09Speaker 3: do this. I can do that. As if it's not
- 20:12Speaker 3: like a set amount of time that it, you know,
- 20:14Speaker 3: minimal to recover from something like this. I can do
- 20:17Speaker 3: it because I'm taking some you know, stem cells, right,
- 20:20Speaker 3: you know, some nonsense that whatever isn't going to help
- 20:23Speaker 3: me come back. So all that criticism might get, but
- 20:25Speaker 3: I just don't understand how he sabotaged the Jets season
- 20:29Speaker 3: by doing this. The Jets had all the ability in
- 20:32Speaker 3: the world to go out and sign a backup quarterback
- 20:34Speaker 3: and chose not to. They could have They could have
- 20:37Speaker 3: made a trade for case Keenum, who won a game
- 20:39Speaker 3: for Houston yesterday in a playoff race or Sunday, like
- 20:43Speaker 3: they could have made a move for Joe Flacco, who
- 20:45Speaker 3: was available to anybody who's won a couple of games.
- 20:48Speaker 4: On their team last year.
- 20:49Speaker 3: So this had nothing to do with Aaron rod unless
- 20:52Speaker 3: there's something I don't know about it. Aaron Rodgers behind
- 20:54Speaker 3: the scenes was saying, no, no, you do not do that, Like,
- 20:56Speaker 3: I don't understand why that's Aaron Rodgers's fault. The rest
- 20:59Speaker 3: of it is all Aaron Rodgers's fault, like the fact
- 21:02Speaker 3: that he's on Pat McAfee every week trying you know,
- 21:05Speaker 3: he's he's one of the top three storylines in the
- 21:07Speaker 3: NFL this year. Yeah, and he didn't play. He played
- 21:09Speaker 3: four plays, Like that's on Aaron Rodgers refreshment memory.
- 21:13Speaker 7: How did he end up with the Jets? What do
- 21:14Speaker 7: they did they have to trade trade for him?
- 21:15Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 21:16Speaker 7: Was that the move for the Patriots? Is that what
- 21:18Speaker 7: Bill should have done? Like I kind of feel like
- 21:20Speaker 7: in hindsight, that's that would have been it.
- 21:22Speaker 4: Like it's like me on Tuesdays is dark and then to.
- 21:27Speaker 5: But that conversation, though, I was, I was down.
- 21:29Speaker 7: Yeah, well, I mean just you know, connecting it all
- 21:31Speaker 7: and bringing it back. Bill really didn't like Mac and
- 21:33Speaker 7: clearly they didn't like Zappy either, because they cut him
- 21:36Speaker 7: if he didn't believe in him. I mean, your Bill,
- 21:39Speaker 7: and you're seventy one, and you've always kind of said
- 21:41Speaker 7: I like Aaron Rodgers, and I mean, this is well,
- 21:43Speaker 7: I think the quarterback maybe handle it.
- 21:45Speaker 5: The Patriots were a hard no for Aaron.
- 21:48Speaker 3: I think it came out the opposite here. I thought
- 21:51Speaker 3: it was the opposite.
- 21:51Speaker 4: Now.
- 21:52Speaker 3: I thought he didn't want to. I thought he didn't
- 21:53Speaker 3: want to come here, but he did. He said, you
- 21:56Speaker 3: said the Patriots were a hard No, yeah.
- 21:58Speaker 5: They were hard.
- 21:59Speaker 7: He for they were.
- 22:00Speaker 3: No Ford misunderstood, I thought, because there was a report
- 22:05Speaker 3: out of New York that I think was sort of
- 22:07Speaker 3: Craig Carteron and it was sort of I don't know
- 22:11Speaker 3: if it was debunked, but it was definitely blown off
- 22:15Speaker 3: that that the Patriots inquired and Rogers said.
- 22:20Speaker 4: No, yeah, I don't know, I don't I don't.
- 22:23Speaker 3: Believe the Patriots ever inquired.
- 22:25Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't know if I would have gone there
- 22:27Speaker 4: in Rogers route. Now, if like Lamar Jackson was technically available,
- 22:31Speaker 4: and it comes out after the fact that they didn't
- 22:33Speaker 4: want to move on that, that's a little different story.
- 22:35Speaker 1: But besides the money, how much of the future did
- 22:38Speaker 1: the Jets have to give up? How many assets?
- 22:41Speaker 3: It was a second round pick, right right?
- 22:42Speaker 4: I didn't want to say my second.
- 22:44Speaker 3: And it was. It could have been a first but
- 22:46Speaker 3: obviously he didn't meet the playtime requirement.
- 22:49Speaker 4: I just had doubts that he's just such a quack.
- 22:52Speaker 4: Like I just I didn't know if it would work
- 22:54Speaker 4: out even if he was healthy, like just because of
- 22:57Speaker 4: where his head is at now. And this whole thing
- 22:59Speaker 4: with the coming back from the Achilles was all just
- 23:01Speaker 4: to prove that he knows better than everybody else and
- 23:04Speaker 4: he's smarter that stuff. Yeah, And I just don't know
- 23:08Speaker 4: if that was he keeps selling it.
- 23:09Speaker 7: I agree with all that stuff, but I mean, if
- 23:11Speaker 7: we're really if I mean, if you're realistic, Bill really
- 23:13Speaker 7: wants to break the record, right, that feels like that
- 23:15Speaker 7: was the.
- 23:16Speaker 3: Move, that was the perfect move for him. I'm going
- 23:18Speaker 3: to coach two more years I'm gonna get the wins
- 23:20Speaker 3: I need with him, Yeah, and then I can walk away.
- 23:22Speaker 4: I have no doubt that that had a potential to
- 23:25Speaker 4: like be electric here with the two of those guys together.
- 23:29Speaker 1: Does that still muddy the water when it comes to
- 23:33Speaker 1: Bill Belichick? Oh, he had to bring in Aaron Rodgers.
- 23:37Speaker 7: Maybe, But I mean if if if getting the record
- 23:40Speaker 7: is what matters, then you know who really cares. I mean,
- 23:43Speaker 7: I just of everything you could you could say, there's
- 23:46Speaker 7: so many moves that have led us to the three
- 23:47Speaker 7: win season. But if there was one move that you
- 23:50Speaker 7: could maybe go back in time and change, I mean
- 23:52Speaker 7: that might have might have altered things. I don't know
- 23:54Speaker 7: how much. I mean, I still think they have flaws,
- 23:56Speaker 7: and I still don't you know, know if they have
- 23:58Speaker 7: the true kind of weapon that you need to kind
- 24:01Speaker 7: of compete in the you know, we see the best teams.
- 24:03Speaker 7: They just they have that right now. But I mean,
- 24:06Speaker 7: he's he's the best option. And I mean Bill always
- 24:08Speaker 7: has kind of a liking to players like him or
- 24:12Speaker 7: really good in a hall OFFI I don't.
- 24:13Speaker 3: Know if the Patriots would have been interested. My guess
- 24:15Speaker 3: is no, I don't know that, but I definitely don't
- 24:18Speaker 3: think Rogers would. I do believe that part of it,
- 24:20Speaker 3: because if you just look at all the things the
- 24:22Speaker 3: Jets did to cater to him, sure, just don't see
- 24:25Speaker 3: those things that have happened here.
- 24:27Speaker 4: Yeah, and I think it is a fair point though,
- 24:29Speaker 4: as we move forward, of we're also focused on quarterbacks
- 24:34Speaker 4: in the draft and going that route and the free
- 24:37Speaker 4: agency classes, it's all a bunch of question marks. You know,
- 24:40Speaker 4: Kirk Cousins coming off in Achilles and stuff, like.
- 24:43Speaker 3: His wife is holding out hope that he can play
- 24:45Speaker 3: in the Super Bowl, and.
- 24:47Speaker 4: You know, like Baker Mayfield and like players like that.
- 24:49Speaker 4: But it does make you wonder about the if Russell
- 24:55Speaker 4: Wilson trade and Aaron Rodgers trade, like if one of
- 24:57Speaker 4: these veteran quarterbacks, you know, I've I like Kyler, I don't.
- 25:01Speaker 4: Some people don't. I take you know absolutely that that
- 25:05Speaker 4: path is intriguing if you're not giving up a ton
- 25:09Speaker 4: of draft capital and you're you're solving the quarterback position
- 25:12Speaker 4: that way, and then the first round pick goes to
- 25:14Speaker 4: a left tackle or goes to Marvin Harrison Junior or whatever.
- 25:17Speaker 4: But obviously that that assumes that you're not trading the
- 25:20Speaker 4: second overall pick for the quarterback, which I don't I
- 25:22Speaker 4: think should be off the table totally.
- 25:24Speaker 1: All right, eight five five paths five hundred is the
- 25:26Speaker 1: ace ticket hotline? Anything else before we turn it over
- 25:30Speaker 1: to the listeners?
- 25:31Speaker 3: Oh no, I think we're I think we should go
- 25:33Speaker 3: to Tennessee first, Freddy, Yeah, Tennessee.
- 25:36Speaker 1: Yes, Roberts and Tennessee. What's up, Robert? Is it as
- 25:39Speaker 1: good as Alex says? How the taxes?
- 25:42Speaker 11: It's it's lovely here, absolutely lovely. You're really missing out, listen.
- 25:50Speaker 11: I'm a huge fan of the show, so what's going
- 25:52Speaker 11: to happen in the next few minutes is not going
- 25:54Speaker 11: to be great. Uh, but just know I listened to
- 25:58Speaker 11: y'all every single episode I've been doing forever. I'm an
- 26:01Speaker 11: idiot down here walking through the hallways as a teacher,
- 26:05Speaker 11: But your stuff on. Basically, I'm a huge, patrious fan.
- 26:10Speaker 11: I know every I know the practice squad, I know
- 26:13Speaker 11: the freaking every penny of they spin. I know everything
- 26:15Speaker 11: about him. So with that being said, the balls on
- 26:19Speaker 11: you actually gun for Bill Belichick is just outrageous to me.
- 26:26Speaker 11: I understand where you're kind of coming from, but it's
- 26:30Speaker 11: it has zero loyalty to it whatsoever. You have covered
- 26:34Speaker 11: more Super Bowls because of him. I know there's other factors.
- 26:38Speaker 11: Don't tell me about Brady, but he's a huge factor
- 26:41Speaker 11: in it. You're traveling around on the best planes, you're
- 26:44Speaker 11: now one of the best organizations in the world, and
- 26:48Speaker 11: you just want to throw Bill Belichick out. I get it.
- 26:50Speaker 12: Oh, oh, he hadn't done a great child in the track.
- 26:52Speaker 11: He's not like San Francisco. If we did with Trey
- 26:55Speaker 11: Lance at San Francisco, y'all would be just destroying him.
- 27:00Speaker 11: But he messed up on Nick bil Harry like this
- 27:02Speaker 11: basically a second round pick, and now he's the biggest
- 27:05Speaker 11: idiot in the world. I understand that is payback time
- 27:09Speaker 11: in a lot of ways, Like, hey, he's kind of
- 27:11Speaker 11: mean to us. He doesn't give us any information, he's
- 27:14Speaker 11: not nice, he probably hates y'all. You stab him in
- 27:17Speaker 11: the back constantly. Why would he give you any information.
- 27:20Speaker 11: He's not gonna give you the game plan every single week.
- 27:24Speaker 11: You basically want that, Like, how come we don't talk
- 27:25Speaker 11: to us more? How can we just run out to
- 27:27Speaker 11: the podium.
- 27:28Speaker 3: Who says that the quarterback headed back?
- 27:30Speaker 4: Who says that?
- 27:30Speaker 11: How can he doesn't come out instantly.
- 27:32Speaker 4: I tell you, people on this show say that this.
- 27:35Speaker 11: Podcast just furious. My wife walks by. He says, Hey,
- 27:39Speaker 11: why what are they doing? Why they talking about Bill Beilichick.
- 27:41Speaker 11: I said, because there's so much smarter than Bill's. They're
- 27:44Speaker 11: like genius. They brought some podcast. Matter of fact, here's
- 27:47Speaker 11: another thing. You have like five people on this like
- 27:50Speaker 11: podcast around this video. How many other teams have that
- 27:54Speaker 11: You have that because it's been a success. But as
- 27:57Speaker 11: soon as he starts to struggle, all of a sudden,
- 27:59Speaker 11: been just to this year has been four years in
- 28:01Speaker 11: the making. So what give him a few more years?
- 28:06Speaker 11: This next year up?
- 28:07Speaker 3: Oh, then you'll then you'll be willing to stab him
- 28:11Speaker 3: in the back. Okay, I got it. When you decided
- 28:13Speaker 3: it's time to stab him in the back, then it's okay,
- 28:16Speaker 3: got you. I'm loyal, Oh until next until next year,
- 28:21Speaker 3: until next year. You'll be loyal until next year. Then
- 28:24Speaker 3: you'll throw him out with the trash.
- 28:27Speaker 11: Because pretty much you can. You've here's your phrase. You Hey,
- 28:30Speaker 11: your opinion is valid. It's wrong, but it's valid.
- 28:34Speaker 3: Or you that's not my phrase. Everybody has. Everybody's entitled
- 28:37Speaker 3: to their opinion. That's I've never told you you're you're wrong.
- 28:40Speaker 3: I didn't say anything you just said was wrong with
- 28:42Speaker 3: the exception of our podcast that started before Bill Belichick
- 28:45Speaker 3: was here, and you're giving him credit for a podcast
- 28:48Speaker 3: that Fred started. So that's wrong. Everything else's opinion doesn't
- 28:52Speaker 3: if we had four people on the podcast at the time,
- 28:54Speaker 3: Fred Kersh, Brian Moury, Paul Perillo, and Shane Donaldson Robert
- 28:59Speaker 3: for Bill Belichick.
- 29:00Speaker 1: This is Robert. I understand everything you're saying, but a
- 29:02Speaker 1: lot of the stuff that you're saying has nothing to
- 29:05Speaker 1: do with Bill Belichick.
- 29:06Speaker 13: Right.
- 29:06Speaker 3: I don't care that he doesn't talk to the media.
- 29:08Speaker 3: I don't care that he's mean to people. I don't
- 29:11Speaker 3: care about anything but winning games.
- 29:12Speaker 11: You're not gonna give him any the success for this.
- 29:14Speaker 3: I give him plenty of success. I think he's the
- 29:16Speaker 3: best coach I've ever seen. You like you're arguing with
- 29:19Speaker 3: like yourself. Yeah, I think he's the best coach I've
- 29:22Speaker 3: ever seen. We'll get rid of him because he hasn't
- 29:27Speaker 3: won in.
- 29:27Speaker 1: Four years, because it's time.
- 29:29Speaker 3: It's time. He's seventy two.
- 29:30Speaker 11: Hey, he went to the playoffs one of those years.
- 29:32Speaker 3: Yeah, and he didn't win.
- 29:34Speaker 4: That's smoked.
- 29:35Speaker 3: They lost by thirty points.
- 29:37Speaker 11: Oh, I forgot. You gotta win, every coach.
- 29:39Speaker 3: No, you have to win something.
- 29:41Speaker 1: Robert, Robert, we have a vested interest in the team.
- 29:43Speaker 3: There's something like twelve games under five hundred since in
- 29:46Speaker 3: that four game span, that four year span.
- 29:48Speaker 1: Robert, we have a vested interest in the team. Our
- 29:51Speaker 1: lives are much better when the team wins. Absolutely, if
- 29:55Speaker 1: it was if it was best to keep him, because
- 29:59Speaker 1: it's just a matter of a year and we'll get
- 30:02Speaker 1: right back. Why would we want to get rid of them?
- 30:05Speaker 11: You don't think you could do it.
- 30:07Speaker 1: I don't. I think it's it goes way beyond, you know,
- 30:11Speaker 1: just his coaching at this point. It's it's you know,
- 30:15Speaker 1: it's relating to the younger players. It's the draft, yes,
- 30:18Speaker 1: but it's it's a lot of other things. And I
- 30:20Speaker 1: just think it's run its course. I think all good
- 30:23Speaker 1: things must come to an end. And even you said,
- 30:26Speaker 1: if it didn't happen next year, you'd be ready to
- 30:28Speaker 1: move on. So everybody's got their limit, everybody's got their time.
- 30:32Speaker 1: Yours is just one year later than mine.
- 30:34Speaker 3: And you're not alone, Robert. There are a lot of
- 30:35Speaker 3: people that call us that's that say stuff very similar
- 30:38Speaker 3: to what you just said. I and I do not
- 30:40Speaker 3: tell them they're wrong. To the contrary, anyone everybody has
- 30:44Speaker 3: their own opinion.
- 30:45Speaker 1: Anyone who says we should keep Bill Belichick. I respect
- 30:48Speaker 1: that absolutely. I respect that.
- 30:50Speaker 11: You know, it's it's like a small percentage of it. It's
- 30:53Speaker 11: just like, yes, eight guys.
- 30:55Speaker 4: No, it is.
- 30:56Speaker 3: I think it's bigger than you think. It's probably like
- 30:58Speaker 3: maybe seventy third. I think you just, you know, something
- 31:01Speaker 3: like that.
- 31:01Speaker 1: You're just hearing for the people that have been waiting.
- 31:03Speaker 3: Because the negativity is louder. There's no doubt about it.
- 31:06Speaker 1: But I think there's plenty of people that want to
- 31:08Speaker 1: keep them, plenty plenty.
- 31:10Speaker 11: It does. It ruins my day every time they lose,
- 31:15Speaker 11: and I just.
- 31:16Speaker 3: It's had a lot of bad days in four years.
- 31:19Speaker 11: It's been bad. It's bad.
- 31:21Speaker 3: But look thirty seven of them.
- 31:24Speaker 11: I just have I have some loyal to do it.
- 31:26Speaker 11: I'm just very grateful for where we've been. I wasn't
- 31:29Speaker 11: really itching to get rid of Tom Brady. I'm just
- 31:33Speaker 11: maybe I'm just too loyal.
- 31:34Speaker 1: Yeah, hey, listen, nobody nobody likes Tom Brady more than
- 31:38Speaker 1: I do, but even that's an admirable I realized that
- 31:42Speaker 1: he wanted to go. They weren't bought in with him
- 31:46Speaker 1: long term, and it was it was best for both
- 31:48Speaker 1: parties to move on now. Ultimately, sure, you know, it's
- 31:52Speaker 1: proven that he could have had a few more years
- 31:53Speaker 1: here at a high level, But were they going to
- 31:56Speaker 1: do what was needed to be done to make those
- 31:58Speaker 1: fruitful years?
- 32:00Speaker 3: Don't think so, Robert. Nothing wrong with being too loyal either.
- 32:03Speaker 3: That's an admirable trait. I'm not. I'm not being patronizing
- 32:06Speaker 3: at all. I disagree with you, but there's nothing wrong
- 32:08Speaker 3: with being too loyal. I appreciate that, Paul, Seriously.
- 32:14Speaker 11: Anybody, if anybody look, I listened y'all constantly, so like
- 32:19Speaker 11: this is like I want to be in the round
- 32:21Speaker 11: table argue with these things. But I'm at the house,
- 32:24Speaker 11: just listening to a podcast, and I would fight for y'all.
- 32:28Speaker 11: If someone sits fire Fred, he's too old, mistake.
- 32:32Speaker 1: Believe me, that's coming. That's coming.
- 32:34Speaker 3: Fred and I are waiting for that day.
- 32:37Speaker 11: He started the first ever podcast.
- 32:39Speaker 1: But so what if I'm losing my fastball, I'm losing
- 32:42Speaker 1: my fastball, or if I ever had.
- 32:45Speaker 11: When it comes.
- 32:45Speaker 3: I mean, you're still painting the corner still, Fred, you
- 32:47Speaker 3: can get by Frank Tana.
- 32:49Speaker 4: That was the nicest thing, Robert, thank you for calling.
- 32:51Speaker 1: I appreciate it.
- 32:52Speaker 4: It was really nice.
- 32:52Speaker 1: It's a good call.
- 32:53Speaker 3: It's a good call. Love, I love me.
- 32:54Speaker 7: Some friend's we got from the Great State of Tennis. Yeah,
- 32:57Speaker 7: we got d a call because someone call on and
- 33:00Speaker 7: I think it was a pregame show with someone who
- 33:01Speaker 7: you know, just very firmly and we just, you know,
- 33:03Speaker 7: let write it with Bill.
- 33:04Speaker 1: And Brian Maury who used to be on this show
- 33:07Speaker 1: is the original member of the podcast. He can't can't
- 33:09Speaker 1: fathom the fact that we're that we don't have a decision.
- 33:15Speaker 1: We can't He can't fathom that anyone is considering moving
- 33:18Speaker 1: on from Bill Belichick.
- 33:19Speaker 8: I mean, I said it last week that I worry
- 33:21Speaker 8: that we look back and regret this where everyone is
- 33:25Speaker 8: writing him out of town and we allowed whether it's
- 33:29Speaker 8: a minority or a majority that wants him gone, they're
- 33:31Speaker 8: the loudest.
- 33:32Speaker 3: Always a possibility.
- 33:33Speaker 1: But really doesn't that say what it's less moving on
- 33:37Speaker 1: from him, then what are you going to do next?
- 33:39Speaker 1: It really also tells you that whatever your move was
- 33:42Speaker 1: after that didn't work right, you know, both can happen.
- 33:45Speaker 1: You can move on and have success, and the Patriots
- 33:47Speaker 1: could have success.
- 33:48Speaker 8: And like you said with Brady, where it was kind
- 33:50Speaker 8: of a mutually, maybe it was more beneficial for Tom,
- 33:54Speaker 8: but it was kind of mutually.
- 33:55Speaker 5: Just like what you do, that could be the case here.
- 33:57Speaker 1: I mean, that's what I was hoping for Brady, is
- 33:59Speaker 1: that he would do well and the Patriots would do well.
- 34:02Speaker 1: You know, it just didn't work out that way. But
- 34:05Speaker 1: you know this, listen, I get what Robert's saying.
- 34:08Speaker 4: I just the only parts that I because I can't
- 34:12Speaker 4: let things go, you know me. Uh, you know one,
- 34:15Speaker 4: no one on this panel has ever complained about Bill's
- 34:17Speaker 4: answers at press conferences. Not once.
- 34:19Speaker 3: I make fun of them. So there's a difference in
- 34:22Speaker 3: making fun of it and saying he needs to get
- 34:24Speaker 3: fired because of it.
- 34:25Speaker 4: Some people, like he said on the call, that this
- 34:28Speaker 4: has come up it's for built because of how he's
- 34:30Speaker 4: treated the media. And now we're we we see blood
- 34:33Speaker 4: in the water and now we're circling. And I can't
- 34:35Speaker 4: speak for other people. I can only speak for myself.
- 34:38Speaker 4: And you know what I hear from you guys, and
- 34:40Speaker 4: no one on this show ever sits here and says
- 34:42Speaker 4: that like is doing this out of spite because of
- 34:45Speaker 4: how he handled himself with the media. And I'd also
- 34:48Speaker 4: just say, you know, there's a loyalty is great, but
- 34:51Speaker 4: there's also such thing as blind loyalty, and like it's
- 34:55Speaker 4: our job to look at it objectively and not just
- 34:58Speaker 4: be blindly loyal to somebody.
- 35:00Speaker 1: And the other thing that he said that you know,
- 35:02Speaker 1: you know this, we wouldn't have this podcast. We wouldn't
- 35:05Speaker 1: have so many people if it was up to Bill.
- 35:07Speaker 1: We know, we wouldn't. We wouldn't exist.
- 35:09Speaker 3: That's what I'm saying to the contract.
- 35:10Speaker 1: I give the Crafts credit for this. I mean, they're
- 35:13Speaker 1: the ones that write the checks and give the green
- 35:16Speaker 1: light to the ideas that we have over the years.
- 35:20Speaker 1: You know, Bill, we're an unnecessary evil in his eyes.
- 35:24Speaker 3: A big part of this, get it, A big part
- 35:26Speaker 3: of this to me is just and it's very similar
- 35:28Speaker 3: to Brady. I there's a finite amount of time left,
- 35:33Speaker 3: Like you cannot do these things forever. Tom Brady defied
- 35:37Speaker 3: logic and defied time for a lot of years, but
- 35:40Speaker 3: at some point it was going to end. Even for
- 35:43Speaker 3: him and at forty five, you know, they let him
- 35:46Speaker 3: go when he was what forty two? Yeah, he won
- 35:49Speaker 3: another super Bowl, and there was a period of time
- 35:52Speaker 3: there where that was probably looked at as embarrassing for
- 35:55Speaker 3: the Patriots. I never looked at it that way. I
- 35:57Speaker 3: kind of looked at it like, Fred, did you know
- 35:59Speaker 3: we let him go. He didn't want to be here.
- 36:01Speaker 3: We probably didn't want him him anymore. But I didn't
- 36:05Speaker 3: wish any ill will on him. I wanted him to succeed.
- 36:07Speaker 3: He did whatever. I knew he wasn't gonna be quarterbacking
- 36:11Speaker 3: for much longer, just like I know that no matter
- 36:13Speaker 3: what happens with Bill, he ain't coaching for another ten years.
- 36:16Speaker 1: Yeah, And that's kind of well, And that's kind of why, like,
- 36:20Speaker 1: especially if the Patriots bring on a new top quarterback,
- 36:24Speaker 1: you know, in the draft, I kind of want the
- 36:27Speaker 1: coach to be guaranted.
- 36:28Speaker 3: You know, I know there's no guarantees in.
- 36:31Speaker 1: Life, but hopefully the coach will be here a long
- 36:34Speaker 1: time with that quarterback and you have that continuity, which
- 36:38Speaker 1: I think was such a big part of the dynasty,
- 36:40Speaker 1: having that continuity.
- 36:41Speaker 3: He'll draft Caleb Williams and Bill Belichick's coach. Let's just
- 36:45Speaker 3: say for frogments sake, he's a great coach for Caleb
- 36:48Speaker 3: Williams for two years. Then you need to find another
- 36:51Speaker 3: coach and do you stunt Caleb Williams's development at that point?
- 36:55Speaker 3: Much like we talked about with Mac Jones with when
- 36:58Speaker 3: when McDaniels left, Like, there's a lot of things that
- 37:02Speaker 3: make it tricky.
- 37:03Speaker 7: But if it was still the Patriots, like of twenty
- 37:05Speaker 7: I don't even I don't know if the zacher to
- 37:07Speaker 7: say twenty twenty and twenty twenty one, but like are
- 37:09Speaker 7: just like they don't have the talent, but they're just
- 37:11Speaker 7: they're really tough to play against. They're well coached, they
- 37:14Speaker 7: always come out and man, they're tough to put away.
- 37:16Speaker 3: You know, those kind of things.
- 37:17Speaker 7: Like if you were seeing that, I would have a
- 37:19Speaker 7: little bit of more of that. It's just hard because
- 37:22Speaker 7: they're We've been watching this and I feel like for
- 37:25Speaker 7: me to sit here and say, I don't know, it's
- 37:27Speaker 7: fine would just be disingenuous because I've watched all the
- 37:29Speaker 7: training camp practices, all the games, everything, you know, maybe
- 37:33Speaker 7: not twice, like I do.
- 37:34Speaker 3: Think people some people that listen to us, that's what
- 37:38Speaker 3: they're expecting because I'm listening to Patriots Dockham because I
- 37:40Speaker 3: don't want the ninety eight five, the Sports Hub and
- 37:43Speaker 3: the WEEI sort of you know, snickering and negativity. I
- 37:47Speaker 3: want to listen to the team because I know they
- 37:50Speaker 3: but we can't do that. And the reason that we
- 37:52Speaker 3: can't do that, Fred will tell you is because Robert
- 37:55Speaker 3: and Jonathan Kraft demand that you don't do that mandate.
- 37:59Speaker 3: It is a mandate. Well, and before I ever went
- 38:02Speaker 3: on a show, he told Fred to talk to us
- 38:06Speaker 3: about when you go on these shows. It's great for
- 38:08Speaker 3: the brand, it's great for us to get the publicity,
- 38:10Speaker 3: and it's great for you. But if you don't tell
- 38:12Speaker 3: them what you see and what you feel, they're never
- 38:15Speaker 3: going to have your back. You lose all your credibility. Yeah.
- 38:18Speaker 1: Yeah. James Pettigrew, the most interesting Patriots fan in the world,
- 38:22Speaker 1: says not sure if you'll know this, Fred, But does
- 38:24Speaker 1: lose a losing Patriots team impact the profitability of the team?
- 38:27Speaker 1: Does this play into the craft mindset on Bill? Do
- 38:30Speaker 1: you make more money as a franchise if you're in
- 38:32Speaker 1: the playoffs regularly? Do the radio deals pay better when
- 38:35Speaker 1: you're winning, et cetera. When renegotiations happen with sponsors, does
- 38:38Speaker 1: recent performance factor.
- 38:40Speaker 3: Into the bids?
- 38:40Speaker 1: Absolutely? Yeah, absolutely, It's like the stock market. You know,
- 38:44Speaker 1: a sponsor invests in you hoping you do well so
- 38:47Speaker 1: that more people are watching, more people are listening, and
- 38:51Speaker 1: it's better for your brand. You want to be associated
- 38:53Speaker 1: with a winner, you know. So yeah, you know it
- 38:57Speaker 1: check goes down to anything. So in that way, you
- 39:00Speaker 1: give Bill Belichick a lot of credit because he was
- 39:02Speaker 1: coaching a team that made the you know, the franchise
- 39:06Speaker 1: that much more profitable. But these last four years, you
- 39:10Speaker 1: look in the secondary market, you can buy a ticket
- 39:13Speaker 1: for forty dollars. That ain't good. Yeah, that's not good.
- 39:16Speaker 7: I mean and how many you know Mac Jones jerseys
- 39:18Speaker 7: are they selling now? And you know they got bumped
- 39:20Speaker 7: off of Monday Night Football.
- 39:21Speaker 1: Like these are.
- 39:21Speaker 7: You know, it works both ways. I mean these are
- 39:23Speaker 7: guys too. I mean, this is like the pinnacle of
- 39:25Speaker 7: competition right now. These owners are all billionaires and they're
- 39:28Speaker 7: all competitive, and you know, even things that probably don't
- 39:32Speaker 7: even cross our radar are seen to them as like, well,
- 39:35Speaker 7: we're not doing quite as you know, we could be
- 39:36Speaker 7: better at this like they I feel like are as
- 39:39Speaker 7: competitive as everybody. I mean, you just see how much
- 39:41Speaker 7: they all pour into it.
- 39:42Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, And you know, as an NFL owner, you
- 39:46Speaker 1: have to be really stupid to lose money, you know,
- 39:48Speaker 1: even if you're not selling out your stadium, you know,
- 39:51Speaker 1: because you know a certain percentage of your revenue comes
- 39:54Speaker 1: from ticket sales, but most of it is TV revenue,
- 39:57Speaker 1: you know, the broadcast arrangement. So you roll out of
- 40:00Speaker 1: bed being profitable. However, you know, everything's pooled. And those
- 40:06Speaker 1: owners that don't pull their weight when it comes to
- 40:09Speaker 1: tickets and other you know, revenue besides the TV, they're
- 40:14Speaker 1: looked down upon. They don't have as much clout when
- 40:17Speaker 1: they get in the room. They're not contributing as much
- 40:20Speaker 1: to the common pool, so they don't get listened to
- 40:23Speaker 1: as much. The owners that do, you know, that are
- 40:26Speaker 1: getting the top level for tickets in their market, that
- 40:29Speaker 1: are bringing in the extra revenue that gets shared, you know,
- 40:33Speaker 1: among all the teams that their jersey's just selling them more,
- 40:36Speaker 1: they have more clout because they're making everybody richer.
- 40:40Speaker 4: Yeah, you know, yeah, I just wonder all of this,
- 40:44Speaker 4: whether it's bill next year, it's a different regime. At
- 40:48Speaker 4: what point, you know, does the losing cause them to
- 40:52Speaker 4: change the way that they do things on multiple levels?
- 40:54Speaker 4: You know, I don't think it's just really about some
- 40:59Speaker 4: of the nitty green stuff that we talk about on
- 41:02Speaker 4: the show, you know, the draft and all that kind
- 41:04Speaker 4: of stuff. I think that there needs to be a
- 41:06Speaker 4: different approach in general to how they build the roster.
- 41:09Speaker 4: Because I'm not one of those people that say that
- 41:12Speaker 4: Brady made it all, you know, all the warts look,
- 41:15Speaker 4: you know, go away or whatever, like they had great
- 41:18Speaker 4: rosters for many years here with the Patriots. But I
- 41:21Speaker 4: think that the landscape of how you build a team
- 41:24Speaker 4: in the modern NFL, because the money coming in is
- 41:27Speaker 4: so ridiculous from the TV deals and the cap is
- 41:30Speaker 4: just exorbitant.
- 41:32Speaker 3: You know.
- 41:32Speaker 4: Macro said to us last summer, like there isn't really
- 41:36Speaker 4: there really isn't a salary cap, Like the salary cap
- 41:38Speaker 4: is like a guideline. Well yeah, and so basically he
- 41:44Speaker 4: said that you could do whatever you want and that
- 41:46Speaker 4: the cap is not going to it's so high and
- 41:48Speaker 4: there's so much money to spend that the cap is
- 41:50Speaker 4: really not going to inhibit you from doing anything. And
- 41:54Speaker 4: I think a lot of teams have started to really
- 41:57Speaker 4: take that approach, and they are the better teams than
- 42:00Speaker 4: the league right now. You know that the Niners are
- 42:02Speaker 4: the best team in the league, and they trade for
- 42:04Speaker 4: Chase Young at the trade deadline, and you're thinking to yourself, like,
- 42:07Speaker 4: how can they do this? Like how can they get
- 42:09Speaker 4: because the cap is manipulated?
- 42:11Speaker 7: You know, Yeah, I just one thing too to say
- 42:13Speaker 7: to that last call too, is I get it. I mean,
- 42:16Speaker 7: Bill Belichick leaving this place will be seismic whenever it happens.
- 42:19Speaker 7: And you know, as somebody who remembers the Patriots, before
- 42:22Speaker 7: Bill Parcells got here, nobody cared. You know, there was
- 42:25Speaker 7: nothing really to make you care about that football team. Now,
- 42:28Speaker 7: not to say that there aren't players now that you
- 42:30Speaker 7: know people don't care about, but you know, Bill is
- 42:32Speaker 7: the last big piece of that dynasty. When the Patriots play,
- 42:35Speaker 7: it's Bill Belichick. When they've got to put graphics up
- 42:37Speaker 7: right now, it's Bill Belichick. That's you know, it was
- 42:39Speaker 7: Brady and Belichick. Brady left and we saw how hard
- 42:42Speaker 7: that was. And now when Bill leaves, that part of
- 42:44Speaker 7: the identity has gone too. And you're you're kind of
- 42:46Speaker 7: I don't want to say nothing, but like, you're gonna
- 42:48Speaker 7: have to re establish who this franchise is after him.
- 42:51Speaker 7: What you know, who's going to be the marquee players.
- 42:53Speaker 7: All of that is just kind of thrown to the wind,
- 42:55Speaker 7: and it's it's distressing, it's it's comforting. There's still a
- 42:58Speaker 7: part of me that's just like, God, it would just
- 42:59Speaker 7: be some which easier to just have Bill back, and
- 43:01Speaker 7: we know what the deal is and we know how
- 43:03Speaker 7: he does things, and you know, it's hard to make
- 43:05Speaker 7: these these big decisions to blow it up. And as
- 43:07Speaker 7: we talk about, there's a GMS, there's coaches, there's a quarterback,
- 43:11Speaker 7: there's free agency, there's all kinds.
- 43:13Speaker 1: I mean, there's so.
- 43:14Speaker 7: Much on the plate for what's going to happen this offseason.
- 43:17Speaker 4: I think sometimes, you know, my best argument now, I
- 43:19Speaker 4: think for keeping Bill is just there are times at
- 43:22Speaker 4: press conferences when he does open up about football stuff
- 43:25Speaker 4: where you're just like, holy crap, this guy knows more
- 43:27Speaker 4: about football than anybody on planet Earth. Like there's not
- 43:30Speaker 4: a single person walking planet Earth right now, probably dead
- 43:34Speaker 4: or alive, honestly, that knows more about football than Bill Belichick.
- 43:37Speaker 4: And so no matter what, whether you agree with his
- 43:40Speaker 4: philosophies in the modern NFL or not. The next guy
- 43:43Speaker 4: is going to know less about football than the current
- 43:45Speaker 4: guy that has the job.
- 43:46Speaker 3: And that's it. I don't think there's much doubt about that. Yeah,
- 43:49Speaker 3: I liked Alex's point too, but like we might look
- 43:51Speaker 3: back with regret. I mean, I think there's a risk
- 43:54Speaker 3: in that. You know, Jerry Jones and Jimmy Johnson couldn't
- 43:58Speaker 3: get along, right, they built this unbelievable juggernaut and they
- 44:03Speaker 3: couldn't figure out a way to coexist, and they ended
- 44:06Speaker 3: up moving on from the coach. Obviously, they've been chasing
- 44:11Speaker 3: their tail ever since that was in the early nineties,
- 44:14Speaker 3: the mid nineties. Yeah, so there's there is definitely risk
- 44:17Speaker 3: to it.
- 44:18Speaker 8: But and if people are unhappy with kind of the
- 44:20Speaker 8: state of things, now, okay, that's just a quarterback Like, yeah,
- 44:24Speaker 8: we're rebuilding, but that's just like a quarterback development thing.
- 44:27Speaker 8: Now we're also bringing in a new head coach, We're
- 44:30Speaker 8: developing another quarterback. Assuming we don't go out and get
- 44:33Speaker 8: a big one free agency. And then also the GM debacle, Like, yeah,
- 44:39Speaker 8: what order does any of this stuff even?
- 44:40Speaker 1: Fall? Season ends January seventh for the Patriots, The off
- 44:45Speaker 1: season starts immediately. It starts on January eighth. Basically, in
- 44:50Speaker 1: my eyes, they've got three weeks to get their jump
- 44:53Speaker 1: stacks together so that they're ready to go for all.
- 44:56Speaker 4: These I would like to hope that this is already
- 44:57Speaker 4: going on.
- 44:58Speaker 3: I know, but I'm talking about the people in places
- 45:02Speaker 3: what happens.
- 45:05Speaker 1: But you know, we got the Senior Bowl, the Shrine Bowl,
- 45:08Speaker 1: the combines, the player visits and all that stuff has
- 45:11Speaker 1: to start happening, like immediately, who's going, who's doing what?
- 45:16Speaker 3: There's no time. GM is really under you've been talking
- 45:20Speaker 3: about this off air. I think it's a really underreported I.
- 45:23Speaker 1: Was talking to these guys like something that just occurred
- 45:25Speaker 1: to me on the drive in today because you know,
- 45:27Speaker 1: I have a long drive and I get to think
- 45:28Speaker 1: now that he listens to you know, they were talking about,
- 45:31Speaker 1: you know, Mayo obviously as a leading candidate for the
- 45:33Speaker 1: head coach. Why not Mayo as the GM. I mean,
- 45:38Speaker 1: he's everybody says that he's got these leadership qualities, right,
- 45:44Speaker 1: his coaching qualities we haven't really seen, Like he doesn't
- 45:47Speaker 1: even have a really a title. You know, he's been
- 45:50Speaker 1: a linebackers coach. I guess but like the main his
- 45:54Speaker 1: superpower supposedly is his communication skills and his leadership. Right,
- 45:59Speaker 1: he knows this organization because he grew up here.
- 46:02Speaker 4: Can you evaluate talent?
- 46:04Speaker 1: Well, no, but he can have people that do it
- 46:06Speaker 1: for him.
- 46:07Speaker 3: Well, he might be able to, don't.
- 46:08Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 46:09Speaker 4: I'm not saying that as like he oversees.
- 46:11Speaker 1: It and by doing that you get the collaborative process
- 46:14Speaker 1: that you want. But you make sure as GM that
- 46:16Speaker 1: you have smart people doing that stuff for you. You know,
- 46:20Speaker 1: there's more to being a GM than just drafting guys
- 46:23Speaker 1: and deciding who you're going to sign for Well, I
- 46:25Speaker 1: think it's the whole operations of football that you have
- 46:28Speaker 1: to consider.
- 46:29Speaker 4: I think that's why a lot of teams have like
- 46:31Speaker 4: a John Elway John Lynch type that is overseeing all
- 46:35Speaker 4: of football operations from the bird's eye view and they
- 46:38Speaker 4: have their their you know self proclaim their nerd to
- 46:42Speaker 4: then go out and like scout guys right like that.
- 46:45Speaker 4: You know, I think that that's how a lot of
- 46:47Speaker 4: teams now do it. And uh, you know, some of
- 46:50Speaker 4: the candidates that we're going to talk about are are
- 46:52Speaker 4: the nerds? Are the guys that are under John Lynch?
- 46:55Speaker 4: In San Francisco with Adam Peters or Mike Borgazzi, who
- 46:58Speaker 4: I think grew up in every call.
- 47:02Speaker 3: Uncle.
- 47:02Speaker 4: He's from Kansas City, you know, under Brett Veach with
- 47:05Speaker 4: the Chiefs, you know, like that these are guys that
- 47:08Speaker 4: if it does happen, like these are the candidates that
- 47:10Speaker 4: we're going to be talking about.
- 47:11Speaker 1: Yeah, So, I don't know. I don't think it's a
- 47:13Speaker 1: crazy idea that whatever the title is, general manager or
- 47:17Speaker 1: president of operations or whatever, and Geron Mayo might be
- 47:21Speaker 1: a good fit for that, you know.
- 47:24Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 47:24Speaker 7: Personally, I think it's kind of the best a long shot.
- 47:28Speaker 7: Can I just I'm sorry to bring it back. This
- 47:30Speaker 7: is just one thing I'm wondering about with Alex's regret thing,
- 47:32Speaker 7: Like do you think you're only going to regret it
- 47:34Speaker 7: if Bill goes to another team and has success? Or
- 47:37Speaker 7: do you think I mean, I just don't want to think, like, like,
- 47:39Speaker 7: guess what another three win season, win season is on
- 47:43Speaker 7: the table if there's a new head coach next year,
- 47:45Speaker 7: and that's not necessarily going to make me regret firing
- 47:47Speaker 7: Bill Belichick, you know. So, I just I don't know
- 47:49Speaker 7: where the regret comes from.
- 47:50Speaker 3: My regret is only in that I wis you know,
- 47:53Speaker 3: if you want me to be like the Hollywood ending,
- 47:56Speaker 3: is that I wish that he could have said I've
- 48:00Speaker 3: had a great run, I'm done, and Robert said, yes,
- 48:03Speaker 3: you've had a great run, and we're sorry that you're done.
- 48:06Speaker 3: But here we go, you know what I mean, that's
- 48:09Speaker 3: the only regret.
- 48:10Speaker 1: They go to the Soup Bowl, he breaks through his
- 48:12Speaker 1: record and he goes out. You know, no, that's a
- 48:14Speaker 1: Hollywood ending for him, not for us, for us too.
- 48:17Speaker 1: Oh if he did it here?
- 48:18Speaker 7: Yeah, oh yeah, yeah, Well yeah.
- 48:22Speaker 3: That's what I'm saying, is that if we were in
- 48:24Speaker 3: this situation, like I agree with Mike, I understand that
- 48:27Speaker 3: there's a lot of work to do and it's probably
- 48:29Speaker 3: not going to all get fixed next year. So I'm fully, uh,
- 48:34Speaker 3: you know, understanding the possibility of another losing record next season.
- 48:37Speaker 3: That won't fill me with regret. What I regret is
- 48:41Speaker 3: that they couldn't sort of amically amicably end it and
- 48:45Speaker 3: move on.
- 48:45Speaker 4: I just wonder. I think the bigger thing for me
- 48:48Speaker 4: is just it looks like there's a ton to be fixed.
- 48:52Speaker 4: But if they draft Caleb Williams and he's just Patrick
- 48:56Speaker 4: Mahomes like does it is it all going to be
- 48:59Speaker 4: fixed like that?
- 49:00Speaker 3: Like I really know, I really it won't be. I mean,
- 49:06Speaker 3: see Patrick could be a playoffs. I don't think you'd be.
- 49:09Speaker 1: A it was so spoiled. Like Brady's first season as
- 49:13Speaker 1: a starter, they won a super Bowl that's very rare,
- 49:16Speaker 1: but even more like it's more like Peyton Manning where
- 49:19Speaker 1: he has his struggles the Friebe year.
- 49:21Speaker 4: I mean, in Max's first year they won ten games
- 49:23Speaker 4: and made the playoffs. And that was with mac Jones.
- 49:25Speaker 3: But imagine if the guy.
- 49:28Speaker 1: Right. But that was kind of an illusion, wasn't it.
- 49:31Speaker 4: But my point being is that there's a very real possibility,
- 49:34Speaker 4: with seventy five million dollars in cap space, the third
- 49:37Speaker 4: pick or the second pick in every single round of
- 49:39Speaker 4: the draft, and you if you if you first pick
- 49:43Speaker 4: on the table, if you get the right picks and
- 49:45Speaker 4: you make the right picks in the draft, and you
- 49:47Speaker 4: get you know a little jump from free agency like
- 49:50Speaker 4: you did in twenty twenty one, I don't see why
- 49:52Speaker 4: this team can't be wins.
- 49:55Speaker 1: Was a chance, but to me, it's unlikely it's going
- 49:57Speaker 1: to be, you know, supposedly a new head coach, maybe
- 50:00Speaker 1: new assistants. There's going to be a learning curve for everybody,
- 50:04Speaker 1: so I wanted to get back.
- 50:05Speaker 4: New assistants might be assistant by addition, by subtraction.
- 50:10Speaker 1: But I just think there's going to be said assistance.
- 50:14Speaker 1: I just think. I just think if you, even if
- 50:17Speaker 1: you draft the next Hall of Fame quarterback, a first
- 50:21Speaker 1: season like Peyton Manning is more likely than a first
- 50:24Speaker 1: playing season with Tom Brady.
- 50:26Speaker 3: Yeah. I agree, it's it's hard to do it, but
- 50:29Speaker 3: I mean C J. Stroud has got you in contention
- 50:31Speaker 3: right now. Now. I would also say that Houston is
- 50:34Speaker 3: like four years into this rebuild, you know, so I
- 50:38Speaker 3: don't think they're a great team. I think the quarterback
- 50:40Speaker 3: is responsible for the I.
- 50:43Speaker 1: Mean, we should be four years into the rebuild, but
- 50:45Speaker 1: our rebuild has fallen apart.
- 50:47Speaker 3: It's kind of started over because I think we went
- 50:49Speaker 3: for the quick fix.
- 50:49Speaker 1: Yeah, the wheels came off our rebuild, let's face it, right, Yeah, it's.
- 50:53Speaker 8: A hard city to do a rebuilding, and that's play
- 50:57Speaker 8: at that plays into it.
- 50:58Speaker 7: And that's the whole point of my thing of again
- 51:00Speaker 7: to your point, Fred, like, yeah, I mean, I just
- 51:01Speaker 7: I think the range of what could happen next year
- 51:04Speaker 7: is from one win to ten wins, you know, like that,
- 51:07Speaker 7: it's anything's really possible. No idea what this team is
- 51:09Speaker 7: going to look like.
- 51:09Speaker 1: But I'm I'm I'll be ready for another losing season
- 51:14Speaker 1: as long as you see the hope, you see the
- 51:17Speaker 1: quarter this this guy can play. You know, they've got
- 51:20Speaker 1: money to spend. They're doing it right, They're they're you know,
- 51:23Speaker 1: they're buttoning up their operations. I'm okay with waiting, you know,
- 51:28Speaker 1: as long as I see the trajectory's going in the
- 51:31Speaker 1: right direction.
- 51:31Speaker 4: I just know that if he, if Bill still wants
- 51:34Speaker 4: to be the coach here next year, he's they always
- 51:37Speaker 4: have that end of year meeting with with mister Kraft
- 51:39Speaker 4: where he says, stay to the union with Bill. Bill's
- 51:42Speaker 4: gonna have some sort of pitch or plan that he
- 51:46Speaker 4: probably already pretty much knows. And you know, we've talked
- 51:49Speaker 4: about this before, and I he's gonna throw the quarterbacks
- 51:52Speaker 4: under the bus, like he's gonna say that if we
- 51:55Speaker 4: had a court, we had Paul what was it, seven
- 51:59Speaker 4: one score losses, We had our best defensive player on
- 52:03Speaker 4: injured reserve for the majority of the season, and we
- 52:05Speaker 4: have quarterbacks that can't play. So if you if we
- 52:07Speaker 4: get the quarterback fixed and we get Jude On back
- 52:09Speaker 4: and we get Christian Gonzales back.
- 52:11Speaker 1: We spend some money, you know, ten wins here we
- 52:14Speaker 1: are you can make that. You can make the case too,
- 52:16Speaker 1: you can you can make the case. And that's what
- 52:18Speaker 1: and then Robert are better or worse, and then Robert
- 52:21Speaker 1: has Bill Belichick back.
- 52:22Speaker 3: Yeah, I'd need to see what the schedule looks like
- 52:24Speaker 3: in the state of the other teams before I would
- 52:25Speaker 3: say that. But well, yeah, yeah, all right, good GM thing.
- 52:29Speaker 3: And I know we you know, I know Fred's foods here.
- 52:31Speaker 3: But the GM thing I want to get to after
- 52:33Speaker 3: the break because I'm curious how many guys you think
- 52:36Speaker 3: the way you describe the GM is sort of the
- 52:38Speaker 3: overseer of everything, Like how many teams are known for
- 52:43Speaker 3: their GM, Like how many teams? Like it's clear the
- 52:45Speaker 3: GM is the guy now that runs it now, Like
- 52:48Speaker 3: to me, even teams that don't have the head coach
- 52:52Speaker 3: is the GM. The head coach is still kind of
- 52:55Speaker 3: the CEO of the organization and they kind of have
- 52:57Speaker 3: final say on the roster and all that stuff. I
- 53:00Speaker 3: just wonder how many teams have that, and I think
- 53:02Speaker 3: John Lynch, as you mentioned, is kind of that overlord
- 53:05Speaker 3: that that's a good exactly what how many.
- 53:07Speaker 7: Teams are like?
- 53:08Speaker 4: The one that I can that comes to mind immediately
- 53:10Speaker 4: is how he.
- 53:12Speaker 7: I was going to say, but it's like retroactive.
- 53:13Speaker 3: You know.
- 53:13Speaker 7: It's like once they put a good time together, it
- 53:15Speaker 7: comes second. It's never like, oh, this guy's a great.
- 53:18Speaker 3: You're gonna get how he was gonna get. He's gonna
- 53:19Speaker 3: build us from the you know, the studs on up.
- 53:21Speaker 4: I just I don't think Nick Sirian has got anything
- 53:24Speaker 4: to do with this success.
- 53:25Speaker 3: No, no, no, I don't. I don't disagree, but I agree
- 53:27Speaker 3: with Mike's point was like kind of after the fact.
- 53:31Speaker 1: It's like.
- 53:35Speaker 3: He does.
- 53:36Speaker 1: In the past, it was, you know, Bill Pollian Poland
- 53:38Speaker 1: would be one of them, and Butler from the Bills.
- 53:41Speaker 1: You know, he got credit for building that team. And
- 53:43Speaker 1: you know, I think maybe in the past maybe GM's
- 53:46Speaker 1: got more credit than they do now because they're just
- 53:49Speaker 1: not out front.
- 53:50Speaker 3: But Poleon built those Bills teams too, right.
- 53:53Speaker 1: Well, but no, but Butler, Butler, the Butler, look him up,
- 53:58Speaker 1: the Butler, the GM butler.
- 53:59Speaker 3: Jerry Wide receiver on a Clemson Good play them, Butler, you.
- 54:03Speaker 1: Know, but every team needs somebody running all aspects of it.
- 54:08Speaker 1: And to do what Bill did is really hard, you know.
- 54:13Speaker 1: But so all right, well, Paul's getty, We'll be right back.

- 55:01Speaker 6: What's up everybody? Bill Belichick spoke with the media this morning.
- 55:04Speaker 6: Let's listen to what he had to say.
- 55:07Speaker 15: All right, So, looking at the Broncos here, well balanced
- 55:11Speaker 15: team obviously, Uh you see Shawn's you know, mark on
- 55:17Speaker 15: the team. You know, Sean A ton of respect for him,
- 55:20Speaker 15: what he's done through his career, and it's the way
- 55:23Speaker 15: he coaches, the way prepares, and it's the football coach
- 55:26Speaker 15: that he is. You know, I think I think Sean
- 55:28Speaker 15: does a great job. But it's a well balanced team,
- 55:34Speaker 15: very explicive in the kicking game, you knows is having
- 55:37Speaker 15: a great year both punt and kickoff returns. H really,
- 55:42Speaker 15: you know, create a lot of field position there. And
- 55:45Speaker 15: you know, offensively cut you know, good receivers, good running back,
- 55:49Speaker 15: really good quarterback. You know Wilson's uh, you know, definitely
- 55:53Speaker 15: a problem running throwing extended plays similar to what we
- 55:58Speaker 15: talked about last week with Mahomes, but.
- 56:02Speaker 3: You know, runs more.
- 56:03Speaker 15: I mean it runs more than most any quarterback in
- 56:05Speaker 15: the league maybe other than Jackson. And then defensively, you know,
- 56:11Speaker 15: they've really, you know, kind of hit their stride here
- 56:13Speaker 15: the last few weeks, turned the ball over a lot,
- 56:16Speaker 15: pretty pretty well balanced team, you know, Allen Josie Singleton,
- 56:21Speaker 15: really productive at linebacker. Obviously, Simmons and certain you know,
- 56:24Speaker 15: two of the better DB's in the league. So you know,
- 56:29Speaker 15: they've really could see their improvement over the course of
- 56:32Speaker 15: the year. And turners have been a big thing. They've
- 56:34Speaker 15: done a good job of turning the ball over and
- 56:37Speaker 15: playing good third now defense, and they've been really good
- 56:40Speaker 15: in a return game. So I think that's kind of
- 56:43Speaker 15: those things really kind of sparked their you know, last
- 56:46Speaker 15: seven or eight games whatever it's been, you know where
- 56:49Speaker 15: they won most of them. So different different group to
- 56:55Speaker 15: get ready for than you know we saw back in
- 56:57Speaker 15: twenty Obviously a lot of a lot of change, but
- 57:01Speaker 15: you know, they're they've done a good job. Shawn's done
- 57:03Speaker 15: a good job there.
- 57:07Speaker 16: Mentioned means in the return game, how do you feel
- 57:10Speaker 16: like your coverage units have been performing?
- 57:14Speaker 7: I guess deceased.
- 57:18Speaker 15: Uh no, bad, Yeah, I bet, I mean our our
- 57:23Speaker 15: net punt is you know better than what it's been.
- 57:26Speaker 15: Some of that's come with some return yards, but the
- 57:27Speaker 15: walls are punted further. And kickoff you know, didn't have
- 57:32Speaker 15: a good one there against Indianapolis, But I mean we
- 57:36Speaker 15: haven't we haven't covered a lot of kickoffs be returned,
- 57:39Speaker 15: a lot of kickoffs.
- 57:42Speaker 3: What is even work done over the course of his
- 57:44Speaker 3: career that's caused you to say I want to.
- 57:46Speaker 15: Work with Yeah, well, just the depth of that position.
- 57:52Speaker 15: So you know, when you only have two quarterbacks on
- 57:54Speaker 15: the roster, guy sprands his ankle. I mean you're down
- 57:57Speaker 15: to you know, putting the receiver or running back or
- 58:01Speaker 15: somebody at quarterback. So but you know it's productive preseason yeah, Canada.
- 58:11Speaker 7: So talking to can a court yesterday, coming up like
- 58:17Speaker 7: Chad and said he practice, you know, he seems to
- 58:19Speaker 7: be making a lot of these shorter kings And when
- 58:23Speaker 7: I heard him.
- 58:24Speaker 6: Say that, it made me think that maybe a little
- 58:25Speaker 6: bit of a surprise that it isn't.
- 58:26Speaker 17: Carry him over to the games' carrious to complete.
- 58:30Speaker 7: Do you see it similarly and what are your thoughts
- 58:32Speaker 7: on there? Things are with a channel?
- 58:36Speaker 15: Oh, yeah, yeah, I agree with Camp.
- 58:43Speaker 17: You mentioned Broncos shown a lot of improvement this year,
- 58:45Speaker 17: certainly on offense.
- 58:47Speaker 4: Sean Payton a lot.
- 58:48Speaker 1: Of success in New Orleans.
- 58:49Speaker 3: Now he's having some immediate success in Denver.
- 58:51Speaker 17: What is it about his offense that is so challenging
- 58:54Speaker 17: for a defensive Portand.
- 58:56Speaker 15: He does a good job of putting stress on the
- 58:58Speaker 15: defense whatever the defense is, rules and adjustments and fundamentals are.
- 59:04Speaker 15: He does a good job attacking him. And that they
- 59:09Speaker 15: obviously have good players, and they started the same line
- 59:11Speaker 15: in every game, so they've got a lot of continuity there.
- 59:16Speaker 15: You know quarterbacks, you know, unique player, he's got a
- 59:20Speaker 15: lot of skill. Receivers, Sudden, I mean, Sudden's good as
- 59:24Speaker 15: good as there is, big guy, great hands, contested catches,
- 59:30Speaker 15: a really hard guy to cover. He's had tremendous production,
- 59:33Speaker 15: especially down the field. So good players.
- 59:38Speaker 1: The injuries happened every year, no supreme, then you've bet
- 59:42Speaker 1: this year. Have you ever dealt with the situation of
- 59:44Speaker 1: this vie?
- 59:44Speaker 3: You've had so many injuries with so many important pieces,
- 59:47Speaker 3: and just I guess you know how frustrating is that?
- 59:49Speaker 3: Noting it's obviously how do you control a lot of
- 59:51Speaker 3: these guys? Control OBErs?
- 59:53Speaker 15: Yeah, yeah, I mean it's almost all contact injuries, you know,
- 59:59Speaker 15: so those are hard to account for, you know, concussions, knees, ankles, shoulders,
- 1:00:08Speaker 15: that's been contact injuries. So I mean you got a
- 1:00:12Speaker 15: couple of sicknesses flues here and there. But yeah, uh,
- 1:00:20Speaker 15: you know, control the cheating, control, you know, train the
- 1:00:22Speaker 15: players the best you can get 'em in good condition.
- 1:00:25Speaker 15: But you know when you see contact injuries like Coal's injury,
- 1:00:29Speaker 15: like that's be a hard arn to prevent. You take
- 1:00:38Speaker 15: it the other day, which.
- 1:00:41Speaker 17: What have you seen from your rushing attack the past
- 1:00:43Speaker 17: couple of weeks?
- 1:00:47Speaker 15: Uh, well we got a probably have some pretty heavy,
- 1:00:51Speaker 15: heavy boxes last week from Kansas City, so we got
- 1:00:54Speaker 15: to be ready for that again. But yeah, sometimes comes
- 1:00:58Speaker 15: down to you know, numbers actually, you know, blocking the
- 1:01:02Speaker 15: guys we have to block. But when there are more
- 1:01:04Speaker 15: numbers than that than that, certain ways to deal with that.
- 1:01:08Speaker 15: But it's you know, it makes a little more challenging.
- 1:01:11Speaker 15: So they need more production throwing the ball. Which once
- 1:01:13Speaker 15: we have that, then that tends to loosen things up
- 1:01:15Speaker 15: a little bit. So just depind on what we see
- 1:01:19Speaker 15: and you know how how how the game unfolds.
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: The valuable is Miles Bryant. The season little changes. If
- 1:01:25Speaker 1: you've had at.
- 1:01:26Speaker 15: Cornerback sim valuable every year, returning punts, you know, playing
- 1:01:31Speaker 15: the kicking game, playing outside, playing inside. It's the same
- 1:01:35Speaker 15: thing last year. Yeah, he's one of our most versatile
- 1:01:39Speaker 15: players and and he's able to handle a lot of
- 1:01:41Speaker 15: different responsibilities and he's had to and he's done a
- 1:01:45Speaker 15: good job. But yeah, Bill, you mentioned Denver's d is
- 1:01:49Speaker 15: hitting it stride and then they gave up seventy points.
- 1:01:51Speaker 7: In Week three. Now they're in the playoff mix.
- 1:01:53Speaker 18: What specifically have you seen that they've been able to
- 1:01:56Speaker 18: improve throughout the season.
- 1:01:58Speaker 15: Yeah, everything, takeaways have them, big fundamentals, not giving up
- 1:02:07Speaker 15: big plays, tackling better, a lot of little things. But
- 1:02:11Speaker 15: it's all big things. It's all. It's all defensive football.
- 1:02:14Speaker 15: They do a good job of defeend blockers. They have
- 1:02:16Speaker 15: a good, good fundamental team and they're they played with
- 1:02:20Speaker 15: a lot of effort and they get a lot of
- 1:02:22Speaker 15: hustle plays, second effort plays, uh effort sacks, strip fumbles,
- 1:02:28Speaker 15: you know, things like that.
- 1:02:31Speaker 12: They do.
- 1:02:32Speaker 15: When you saw it Bensho was last year in Arizona,
- 1:02:34Speaker 15: different team, roster, all that, but you see and carry
- 1:02:37Speaker 15: over that scene.
- 1:02:37Speaker 3: High pressure, plates, philocity, here in the never week the.
- 1:02:40Speaker 15: Week, I would say it's a little different than what
- 1:02:45Speaker 15: they did last year in Arizona.
- 1:02:47Speaker 17: Yeah, with the season where it is and obviously you
- 1:02:55Speaker 17: playoffs still longer consideration, do you find it harder to
- 1:02:57Speaker 17: motivate the players and the coaches never want to it.
- 1:03:00Speaker 3: You know, it was ready to go every week.
- 1:03:06Speaker 7: I'm a chance to coaching one's back this season, I
- 1:03:11Speaker 7: don't think so.
- 1:03:19Speaker 4: I mentioned the the heavy boxes that you're getting from
- 1:03:22Speaker 4: Kansas City with the run game. Is that something that
- 1:03:24Speaker 4: you've seen as a common theme at all recently against
- 1:03:28Speaker 4: your offense?
- 1:03:30Speaker 3: No, No, it's varied.
- 1:03:33Speaker 15: It's varied from week to week. There were a couple
- 1:03:38Speaker 15: of games that we saw couples you in some days
- 1:03:43Speaker 15: it didn't didn't see from Indianapolis, you know, sawwhere Pittsford.
- 1:03:49Speaker 15: We'll see they mix it up. Man, they don't do
- 1:03:51Speaker 15: the same thing every time. But there's uh, definitely a
- 1:03:55Speaker 15: lot of Yeah, we saw a lot of in Kansas City.
- 1:04:00Speaker 17: What have you seen progression wise from Vin Harris?
- 1:04:04Speaker 10: So good?
- 1:04:05Speaker 15: Yeah, solid guys here every day works hard every day,
- 1:04:09Speaker 15: scout team, offense, kicking game. He s WORKDRD on his
- 1:04:13Speaker 15: pass protection, pass routes just he can carry the ball
- 1:04:17Speaker 15: that he's worked on, you know, other parts of his
- 1:04:19Speaker 15: game too. So helped me become more well rounded player.
- 1:04:23Speaker 15: The solid guy works, you know, gives you a really
- 1:04:26Speaker 15: solid effort every day. All right, okay, all right, thank you.
- 1:04:38Speaker 19: When someone accidentally threw away the school play costumes, oh no,
- 1:04:43Speaker 19: replacements were shipped with FedEx and with picture proof of delivery,
- 1:04:47Speaker 19: everyone could focus on the perfect opening night FedEx where
- 1:04:50Speaker 19: now it's next for residential delivery only.
- 1:04:55Speaker 7: And now great moments in.
- 1:04:59Speaker 3: Its.
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: I know he's a friend of the show, but the
- 1:05:02Speaker 1: pre and post game shows have become largely about soothing
- 1:05:05Speaker 1: or feeding Hardy's ego, and he offers little actual information
- 1:05:09Speaker 1: about the team or the game. It's so frustrated.
- 1:05:12Speaker 16: Wow, you should bring this that's entirely inaccurate Hardy to
- 1:05:18Speaker 16: I don't know if Hardy has I think, if anything
- 1:05:20Speaker 16: in this room, I think, if anything, he's got inferior complex.
- 1:05:23Speaker 3: Yes, I would agree.
- 1:05:25Speaker 1: Yeah. Uh, you know, he's a very busy guy. He's
- 1:05:28Speaker 1: got ninety eight point five and he does serious He's
- 1:05:31Speaker 1: got the music show, you know, so he's got golf,
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: the golf show that he does. But he gets free
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: stuff for that, so I'm a little jealous custom p
- 1:05:44Speaker 1: HG clubs he gave you? No, he got those, he
- 1:05:48Speaker 1: got free and.
- 1:05:49Speaker 3: I got his leftover.
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: So, oh did you?
- 1:05:51Speaker 3: He said he gave me a set of irons? Nice?
- 1:05:54Speaker 1: What kind?
- 1:05:55Speaker 3: I don't know. I didn't look at him.
- 1:05:56Speaker 1: You don't even look at him.
- 1:05:58Speaker 3: We just the other night when we were leave when
- 1:06:00Speaker 3: he put them in my trunk.
- 1:06:02Speaker 1: So you're not even curious to what they are.
- 1:06:05Speaker 3: No, I'll look at him when I get a chance.
- 1:06:07Speaker 3: I would want to know what kind of clubs I got?
- 1:06:10Speaker 1: You excited? I've been working on new set of irons.
- 1:06:14Speaker 7: Just rolling around in the back of his car, right
- 1:06:17Speaker 7: there in a bag.
- 1:06:20Speaker 3: I'd want to know, Like the Calloways, and they expect
- 1:06:22Speaker 3: that from him, not you.
- 1:06:23Speaker 1: I expect you, know, like i'd be excited to get
- 1:06:27Speaker 1: a new set of irons.
- 1:06:28Speaker 4: Mike, how's your putting?
- 1:06:29Speaker 3: That's another great moment from.
- 1:06:34Speaker 1: All right back here on Patriots on Filtered eight five
- 1:06:36Speaker 1: five PATS five hundred is the a'st taken hotline web
- 1:06:39Speaker 1: radio at Patriots dot com is the email address.
- 1:06:41Speaker 3: Didn't we have like trivia questions yesterday?
- 1:06:43Speaker 7: Yeah?
- 1:06:45Speaker 3: Right?
- 1:06:46Speaker 1: I gotta do that.
- 1:06:47Speaker 3: Yeah, did you send did you send me though?
- 1:06:50Speaker 1: Yeah? I never never, we never read them. Yeah, I
- 1:06:54Speaker 1: didn't read them. I warn't handed them. I wasn't handed them.
- 1:06:58Speaker 3: No, I warn't.
- 1:06:59Speaker 1: I can't talk.
- 1:07:01Speaker 3: Yeah, excellent buffalo chicken sandwich by the way from them.
- 1:07:06Speaker 3: It was good good.
- 1:07:07Speaker 7: I got short change. Maybe they gave you one of
- 1:07:09Speaker 7: my three chicken fingers and they got two.
- 1:07:12Speaker 3: I think you haven't got I think maybe one fell out.
- 1:07:16Speaker 1: Check you checked the bag.
- 1:07:18Speaker 5: The price they went up a little, weren't they three?
- 1:07:24Speaker 4: I don't know three for three day when they first launched.
- 1:07:26Speaker 1: All right, well, Mattia, let's get to the phones, Mark's
- 1:07:29Speaker 1: and Everett.
- 1:07:30Speaker 12: Hey, Mark, Fred, thank you as always taking my ball.
- 1:07:35Speaker 11: Very Christmas to the whole game.
- 1:07:37Speaker 12: I mean that sincerely, very Christmas to every one, uh
- 1:07:40Speaker 12: two quick things.
- 1:07:42Speaker 11: Being a squished squish the fish guy.
- 1:07:45Speaker 1: You know.
- 1:07:45Speaker 12: I grew up on ever and watched the football. We
- 1:07:47Speaker 12: hated the Dolphins. I think most of us just don't
- 1:07:50Speaker 12: want to see Bill beach Shooles record on another team.
- 1:07:54Speaker 12: So we're all trying to hang in there just for
- 1:07:56Speaker 12: the other seventeen games, so we could at least leave
- 1:07:59Speaker 12: when with the Shooler record because we lost the eighteen
- 1:08:03Speaker 12: and one season, so we couldn't take that a record
- 1:08:05Speaker 12: away from them. So I think that's why we're all
- 1:08:07Speaker 12: feeling like maybe we should keep build just for a
- 1:08:09Speaker 12: couple more years, just to get that record, whether we
- 1:08:12Speaker 12: go six and you know, eleven or.
- 1:08:16Speaker 11: You know what I mean, I think that's what we're feeling.
- 1:08:18Speaker 12: I'm not feeling that way.
- 1:08:19Speaker 1: I'm not feeling that way. I can tell you that one.
- 1:08:22Speaker 12: So if he was a Dallas cowboy and he beats
- 1:08:24Speaker 12: youoles record, that wouldn't bump you.
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: No, it really wouldn't. I can honestly tell you. I'm
- 1:08:29Speaker 1: not kidding. It wouldn't. I'd be happy for him.
- 1:08:31Speaker 3: And eighteen one will always bother me.
- 1:08:33Speaker 4: Yeah, no question, I think about that's my Roman empire.
- 1:08:36Speaker 3: But yeah, I get that.
- 1:08:39Speaker 7: I mean, how much do you want him to beat
- 1:08:41Speaker 7: the Shoola record? Like, what's that going to mean to you?
- 1:08:43Speaker 12: Like?
- 1:08:43Speaker 7: That's that gonna be like?
- 1:08:44Speaker 1: And is gonna beat it a few years later? I mean,
- 1:08:46Speaker 1: I don't really care, you know, And and everybody says this,
- 1:08:50Speaker 1: but I'm not sure Bill cares about that record that much.
- 1:08:53Speaker 4: Six and Belichi.
- 1:08:54Speaker 1: I've never heard him say a word about.
- 1:08:56Speaker 7: I mean, I'm much rather have the Super Bowls right well,
- 1:08:58Speaker 7: like champions just.
- 1:08:59Speaker 3: Like you know, as as a point of fact, like
- 1:09:01Speaker 3: Mark was just sort of like throw it even if
- 1:09:02Speaker 3: it's like six and eleven, and that's like your notes.
- 1:09:06Speaker 3: If that happens six and then eight, he doesn't he
- 1:09:08Speaker 3: needs a third.
- 1:09:09Speaker 1: Year right to do it, right?
- 1:09:11Speaker 4: Yeah, marroll it like you don't know if it's even
- 1:09:14Speaker 4: gonna happen here, You don't know who it's going to
- 1:09:15Speaker 4: happen again.
- 1:09:17Speaker 1: What is it?
- 1:09:17Speaker 7: Like it's a and he just broke the record. Great,
- 1:09:19Speaker 7: I'll get back to the game.
- 1:09:20Speaker 4: Like I like, I think we'd have a cool I
- 1:09:23Speaker 4: think he can't.
- 1:09:24Speaker 3: I think she cares about it.
- 1:09:25Speaker 7: But like I just think the way that it's built
- 1:09:27Speaker 7: up that like all he cares about right now is
- 1:09:29Speaker 7: like winning those I just think that's kind of like ridiculous.
- 1:09:32Speaker 7: I mean, you already got the championships. Like that's where
- 1:09:34Speaker 7: it's at for me.
- 1:09:35Speaker 1: But but you know, someday there's going to be another
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: head coach who coaches a long time and you know,
- 1:09:42Speaker 1: gets a great quarterback and piles up a lot.
- 1:09:44Speaker 3: Of wins to your and they'll break that record. Right now, right,
- 1:09:49Speaker 3: it's the Super.
- 1:09:49Speaker 1: Bowls that are the important thing.
- 1:09:51Speaker 4: I don't think is going to catch him.
- 1:09:53Speaker 3: I don't think so either, because I don't think he's
- 1:09:54Speaker 3: interested in coaching much long. Yeah, he was thinking about
- 1:09:57Speaker 3: retiring after the winning the Super Bowl last year.
- 1:09:59Speaker 5: Yes, but if one of years ago, it seemed out
- 1:10:01Speaker 5: of question that any like, if.
- 1:10:03Speaker 3: He wanted to coach for five more years, he'd have
- 1:10:05Speaker 3: a legit shock.
- 1:10:06Speaker 4: Yeah, especially if he stays healthy.
- 1:10:07Speaker 1: All right, here's the trivia questions. Ready, Paul, you're not peaking?
- 1:10:11Speaker 1: I know, all right, peak? What year did the NFL?
- 1:10:15Speaker 4: Which actually that was that was well done right there?
- 1:10:18Speaker 3: That was good. You gotta give you identified the mic
- 1:10:20Speaker 3: and Mic is on? Okay, can I can I finish?
- 1:10:26Speaker 1: What year did the NFL switch from Reebok to Nike?
- 1:10:29Speaker 7: Twenty twelve?
- 1:10:30Speaker 1: That's correct?
- 1:10:31Speaker 4: I was fucking like somebody would that's a question.
- 1:10:37Speaker 1: And Alex got that. No, Mike got it, he says,
- 1:10:41Speaker 1: email or Alex got.
- 1:10:42Speaker 5: It, blast name, No where it was from, just Alex.
- 1:10:47Speaker 1: They wanted to get it.
- 1:10:49Speaker 6: Was a ridiculous emails had Alex and some you know
- 1:10:51Speaker 6: a bunch of numbers.
- 1:10:51Speaker 1: All right, No wonder why how many career sass? Did
- 1:10:54Speaker 1: Teddy Bruski have.
- 1:10:56Speaker 3: How many career sacks?
- 1:10:58Speaker 4: Three?
- 1:11:00Speaker 7: I'm want to say, Wait, let's do Jeopardy rule as
- 1:11:02Speaker 7: close as that get over thirty seven?
- 1:11:04Speaker 4: That's that's price is right?
- 1:11:06Speaker 1: Sorry, that's incorrect. Eighteen that's in thirty and a half. Oh,
- 1:11:10Speaker 1: I was right, Colleen and Houston got that. And finally,
- 1:11:13Speaker 1: when was the last time the Patriots had a top
- 1:11:15Speaker 1: ten draft pick?
- 1:11:18Speaker 10: Rab Ma?
- 1:11:19Speaker 4: Well, yeah he was. He was ten though, right, sore
- 1:11:21Speaker 4: we going.
- 1:11:22Speaker 3: That's top ten, top ten? The t they always correct.
- 1:11:26Speaker 7: I no, no, I know what you're talking about with
- 1:11:28Speaker 7: the confusion though numbers of eight. You know what always
- 1:11:31Speaker 7: confuses me?
- 1:11:32Speaker 1: Mark?
- 1:11:32Speaker 7: What does your brain do when someone's like it was
- 1:11:34Speaker 7: in the eighteenth century? What do you what do you do?
- 1:11:37Speaker 10: Like?
- 1:11:37Speaker 3: I have to think subtract one right immediately you think ninety.
- 1:11:40Speaker 7: So that's the seventeen hundreds, got it?
- 1:11:42Speaker 4: Wait?
- 1:11:43Speaker 1: What you like in nineties?
- 1:11:45Speaker 4: You know, I know nothing about that.
- 1:11:47Speaker 1: Right now we're in the twenty first century. But the
- 1:11:49Speaker 1: two thousands, you.
- 1:11:49Speaker 7: Know, it's always you always want to head in the century.
- 1:11:51Speaker 7: So back in the nineteenth century, that's the eighteen hundreds.
- 1:11:54Speaker 7: It's not the nineties.
- 1:11:55Speaker 4: Why can't it just make sense? I know that's numbers hard,
- 1:11:58Speaker 4: doesn't make Oh, just like you know our system of
- 1:12:02Speaker 4: measurement instead of the metric system.
- 1:12:04Speaker 7: Oh, don't get me started.
- 1:12:06Speaker 4: Yeah, because like your.
- 1:12:07Speaker 5: First birthday isn't the day you're born, You have to go.
- 1:12:10Speaker 1: Through that whole year. Talk about prognacy.
- 1:12:13Speaker 3: Now, the years make makes sense, That's what I'm saying.
- 1:12:16Speaker 5: I calling it the twenty first century. But two thousands
- 1:12:19Speaker 5: makes sense, right.
- 1:12:20Speaker 7: Because the hundreds finished the second century.
- 1:12:23Speaker 1: I remember in grade school and you know, glad I
- 1:12:27Speaker 1: fifty years ago or even more. You know, we have
- 1:12:29Speaker 1: to get ready for the metrics system we're going to
- 1:12:31Speaker 1: be converted in. It never happened.
- 1:12:33Speaker 7: Kids, You were like, this is ridiculous. Why don't we
- 1:12:35Speaker 7: just use this? This makes so much sense. Everything is connected,
- 1:12:37Speaker 7: it's all easier. No, but we're on the mile yards.
- 1:12:41Speaker 7: There's a great recent nape Argazy Saturday and Live sketch
- 1:12:43Speaker 7: about this whole thing, where it's like he's in colonial
- 1:12:46Speaker 7: times explaining the ridiculous nature of like using measure by.
- 1:12:50Speaker 8: Rocks, like I think an acre is how much one
- 1:12:53Speaker 8: single man could reasonably plow in a day.
- 1:12:56Speaker 5: I'm pretty sure, that's where that came from.
- 1:12:59Speaker 20: That's what we're talking about when you come up with
- 1:13:01Speaker 20: I'm gonna live in Tennessee, because there's no t That
- 1:13:05Speaker 20: was the Alexis thing ever, right there, the acre came about,
- 1:13:09Speaker 20: of course, Cliff Craven.
- 1:13:11Speaker 3: That was the amount that could reasonably be plowed by
- 1:13:14Speaker 3: a man.
- 1:13:15Speaker 1: Who knows that I'm boring.
- 1:13:18Speaker 3: That's fascinating. That's the opposite of boring.
- 1:13:22Speaker 8: Grade teacher Peace.
- 1:13:24Speaker 7: I feel like Andy should weigh on this one, because
- 1:13:26Speaker 7: if anybody's gonna like an acre, he'd be the guy.
- 1:13:29Speaker 1: I could do it too.
- 1:13:29Speaker 3: I could do too, So I deserve to have two
- 1:13:33Speaker 3: acres for the price of one. This is what you
- 1:13:35Speaker 3: guys always But Fred's right. The two things that I spent,
- 1:13:40Speaker 3: you know, my elementary school years being drilled into drilled
- 1:13:44Speaker 3: into my head. This is how it will be nineteen
- 1:13:46Speaker 3: seventy six, nineteen seventy seven the metric system and soccer
- 1:13:51Speaker 3: is the sport of the You guys didn't have to know.
- 1:13:52Speaker 3: Those are the two things that everybody told me would be.
- 1:13:55Speaker 8: At least you guys had to actually use cursive for
- 1:13:58Speaker 8: some portion of your life. We had to learn it
- 1:14:00Speaker 8: and then it was like instantly, Yeah.
- 1:14:03Speaker 1: Cursive, but I think you know, as a country where
- 1:14:06Speaker 1: the ultimate procrastinator is about the metrics, is sure, we
- 1:14:09Speaker 1: just won't we just we'll put it off another year.
- 1:14:12Speaker 4: That would really throw football off, Like so, what are
- 1:14:15Speaker 4: we going to go to a hundred meter field instead
- 1:14:17Speaker 4: of one hundred yards?
- 1:14:19Speaker 7: How close are a meter in the yard?
- 1:14:20Speaker 4: It's not very Yeah, he doesn't know, he doesn't know.
- 1:14:29Speaker 4: Why are you asking me these questions?
- 1:14:32Speaker 1: A little more?
- 1:14:34Speaker 3: You got to go to schoolhouse rock? But why do
- 1:14:36Speaker 3: you ask the question? Think about it that way? It's
- 1:14:41Speaker 3: really not that hard.
- 1:14:42Speaker 7: I'm assuming you know all the accurate dimensions of a
- 1:14:44Speaker 7: football field though from like you know, from the hashes
- 1:14:46Speaker 7: in and you know, et cetera.
- 1:14:47Speaker 4: Yeah, but like that's because I shouldn't know those types
- 1:14:51Speaker 4: of things, like like an acre is probably more you know, random, No,
- 1:14:57Speaker 4: I think that that's probably better for life than me
- 1:14:59Speaker 4: ran knowing how far the hashmarks are apart.
- 1:15:02Speaker 1: Like probably, I mean, yeah, but subjective. Everybody's different, you.
- 1:15:08Speaker 5: Know, that's just how stupid it is.
- 1:15:12Speaker 1: Not your system. Let's go, let's go to a shot
- 1:15:15Speaker 1: in Baltimore. What's up for shod?
- 1:15:19Speaker 9: Hey, what's up? I ain't gonna lie. I wanted to
- 1:15:24Speaker 9: say something about Zacy because I think I do think
- 1:15:28Speaker 9: that the team, just the team just look better with him.
- 1:15:30Speaker 9: But I gotta I gotta talk about Bill because I
- 1:15:34Speaker 9: heard somebody call and I heard a couple of people
- 1:15:36Speaker 9: call in just saying stuff about Bill and why we
- 1:15:39Speaker 9: should keep them. And then they said something about the record.
- 1:15:42Speaker 9: I'm gonna say that nobody cares about that record. I
- 1:15:44Speaker 9: mean at least nobody. I mean, I don't care about
- 1:15:47Speaker 9: the record. I don't care. I don't care if he
- 1:15:49Speaker 9: gets with another team. I don't care about that. And
- 1:15:52Speaker 9: and the reason why we want Bill we want to
- 1:15:54Speaker 9: change because just look at just look at what the
- 1:15:56Speaker 9: team has been, like you can't you can't keep living
- 1:15:59Speaker 9: off the past and what I'm in, Like, just think
- 1:16:02Speaker 9: about it like this, people who want Bill as a coach,
- 1:16:05Speaker 9: Like if his name wasn't Bill Belichick, if it was
- 1:16:08Speaker 9: you know, Tom Tom Smith, he wasn't, Like I just
- 1:16:11Speaker 9: don't think about don't think about all the accolades that
- 1:16:14Speaker 9: he's done. Let's think about all the stuff that that
- 1:16:17Speaker 9: he's done as a coach and a GM the past
- 1:16:20Speaker 9: three four five years. If he was anybody else they
- 1:16:22Speaker 9: will be gone. They will be gone and it wouldn't
- 1:16:25Speaker 9: even be a discussion. So we I think it's a
- 1:16:28Speaker 9: lot of people, and I really think it's the older
- 1:16:31Speaker 9: Patriot fans. You gotta let it go, like it's time
- 1:16:35Speaker 9: for a change. I mean unless unless people like saying
- 1:16:38Speaker 9: like three, three and thirteen seasons and stuff like that.
- 1:16:41Speaker 9: They like seeing mediocre offenses, mediocre games, like it's time
- 1:16:46Speaker 9: for a change. Like you can't you can't keep you
- 1:16:48Speaker 9: can't keep living off the pass. That's like all of
- 1:16:51Speaker 9: the Super.
- 1:16:52Speaker 18: Bowls and stuff.
- 1:16:53Speaker 9: Yeah, we want to remember in charish it, but we're
- 1:16:55Speaker 9: not going to see anymore than we keep.
- 1:16:57Speaker 12: We keep him and we.
- 1:16:58Speaker 9: Keep going through the same suck. If we get a
- 1:17:00Speaker 9: new quarterback with Bill, I don't I don't feel confident.
- 1:17:04Speaker 9: I'm not going to feel confident with him.
- 1:17:07Speaker 1: And how long is it gonna last? You know that's
- 1:17:09Speaker 1: the thing. All right, thanks for shot and.
- 1:17:12Speaker 3: Just you know, we don't have to be labor that.
- 1:17:14Speaker 3: But he's right, if if if, if it was just
- 1:17:17Speaker 3: a regular guy. But that's part of it. There's a
- 1:17:20Speaker 3: lot more information than just the last four years, and
- 1:17:23Speaker 3: that should be like Bill should get more leeway than
- 1:17:27Speaker 3: Harry Smith, who's coached the last four years.
- 1:17:30Speaker 4: But you wouldn't you, like I would argue he had
- 1:17:32Speaker 4: like did this last four years has been the leeway though?
- 1:17:35Speaker 3: Right? Yeah, no, no, I'm not saying he's saying if
- 1:17:37Speaker 3: this was anybody else, it would we wouldn't even be
- 1:17:39Speaker 3: talking about it. No, we wouldn't. But that's part of it,
- 1:17:41Speaker 3: Like the fact that he's won six titles, have been
- 1:17:44Speaker 3: to nine.
- 1:17:45Speaker 1: The fact that people are even considering keeping him. It's
- 1:17:48Speaker 1: because of his history. It's because we know how great
- 1:17:51Speaker 1: he has been.
- 1:17:52Speaker 7: Yeah. I came across just something I thought was interesting
- 1:17:55Speaker 7: in our little stat pack that we get the.
- 1:17:57Speaker 3: Broncos mucho mass respect for the fact that you still
- 1:18:00Speaker 3: printed out.
- 1:18:01Speaker 4: I enjoy it.
- 1:18:01Speaker 7: Thank you. You don't have to thank me.
- 1:18:03Speaker 4: You know I like it too.
- 1:18:05Speaker 10: I do.
- 1:18:06Speaker 7: The Broncos haven't been to the playoffs since they won
- 1:18:09Speaker 7: the Super Bowl in twenty fifteen. You how many head
- 1:18:11Speaker 7: coaches they've.
- 1:18:12Speaker 3: Gone through in that time, I'll say three.
- 1:18:14Speaker 7: I got them pulled up, so, uh, vic fan Jerry
- 1:18:18Speaker 7: Kubiak won the Super Bowl, but he was the coach,
- 1:18:21Speaker 7: so I'm starting there.
- 1:18:22Speaker 3: Vig Fangio, you missed one vance Joseph and Nathaniel Hackett
- 1:18:28Speaker 3: and now Peyton.
- 1:18:30Speaker 7: Right, So I mean it's it's the Patriots, haven't I mean,
- 1:18:32Speaker 7: that's you know ton Of to his point, like, yeah,
- 1:18:35Speaker 7: I mean, this was a team that won the Super Bowl.
- 1:18:37Speaker 7: I mean, the Patriots won the Super Bowl in twenty eighteen.
- 1:18:39Speaker 7: You know, it's it's They've gone through, you know, four
- 1:18:42Speaker 7: coaches and we're counting now.
- 1:18:44Speaker 3: The only difference is if Kubiak didn't step away for
- 1:18:47Speaker 3: health reasons, he probably would have been the coach for
- 1:18:49Speaker 3: another four years.
- 1:18:51Speaker 7: Yeah, well, do you know what I mean?
- 1:18:53Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 1:18:53Speaker 7: Maybe, I mean without technical once Peyton fell out.
- 1:18:56Speaker 3: And didn't mean to add context.
- 1:19:00Speaker 1: Let's go to Spi and Fresno. What's up, speed.
- 1:19:03Speaker 18: Evan, Happy honkkah, hawksamea thank you, thank.
- 1:19:06Speaker 4: You, see some people understand what.
- 1:19:10Speaker 7: Does THISNKA thing?
- 1:19:11Speaker 4: Oh, don't be proved.
- 1:19:15Speaker 18: That and a holly jolly Christmas for the rest of you.
- 1:19:19Speaker 4: I don't have to say that part.
- 1:19:20Speaker 7: And Tamara's birthday, Yes you definitely, Happy birthday.
- 1:19:26Speaker 18: Happy birthday tomorrow. In the post game show, there was
- 1:19:29Speaker 18: a call from H. David in Atlanta, I think, and
- 1:19:32Speaker 18: I thought it was interesting. He was he was really
- 1:19:35Speaker 18: frustrated with Bill drafting Mafu only to give him, you know,
- 1:19:39Speaker 18: like to have him ride the bench because of the
- 1:19:41Speaker 18: depth of safety, and you know, at the same time
- 1:19:43Speaker 18: kind of neglecting glaring positions and need in the draft
- 1:19:47Speaker 18: like tied it and tackle. And hearing that good discussion
- 1:19:51Speaker 18: kind of reminded me of that Bellows Tech quote from
- 1:19:54Speaker 18: I believe it was related from Urban Meyer, like five
- 1:19:57Speaker 18: or sixty years ago, where Bill's talking about, you know,
- 1:20:00Speaker 18: at this point in my career, I only want to
- 1:20:01Speaker 18: coach guys I like or want to coach, and not
- 1:20:04Speaker 18: other other players. And it's like whether it's Mapu or
- 1:20:07Speaker 18: Jordan Richards, it just seems like Bill sometimes at least
- 1:20:11Speaker 18: prioritizes like a collection of traits over overall football talent.
- 1:20:17Speaker 18: And what I wanted to ask you guys, do you
- 1:20:19Speaker 18: see that as a change in him and his approach,
- 1:20:21Speaker 18: Like you guys used to say, how like Tom changed,
- 1:20:25Speaker 18: but Bill didn't change.
- 1:20:27Speaker 3: But I wonder when you.
- 1:20:28Speaker 18: Look at that quote, you know, he's saying at a
- 1:20:30Speaker 18: certain point his career, his approach to play or acquisition changed,
- 1:20:34Speaker 18: And I just wonder just thoughts on all that stuff.
- 1:20:37Speaker 7: That's a good question I mean, and I've thought a
- 1:20:39Speaker 7: little bit about that, and you know, maybe in Jordan
- 1:20:42Speaker 7: Richard's case, I get it because he was just like
- 1:20:43Speaker 7: super duper nice guy, but you know, couldn't play and like,
- 1:20:46Speaker 7: but like all the guys he's drafted and that he's
- 1:20:48Speaker 7: missed on, like, I don't necessarily feel like and I
- 1:20:51Speaker 7: mean I'm not meaning this as it's going to sound
- 1:20:52Speaker 7: as a shot, but they're not all these great, awesome
- 1:20:54Speaker 7: guys You're like, Oh, I could see why personality wise,
- 1:20:57Speaker 7: he would want to have this guy. Like, they're all
- 1:20:59Speaker 7: cantinuing to be kind of a mishmash of you know,
- 1:21:01Speaker 7: across the spectrum of any average you know, personality spectrum.
- 1:21:05Speaker 7: So I don't I just don't really see it. I mean,
- 1:21:07Speaker 7: I understand what they're saying, and i'd love to be
- 1:21:09Speaker 7: able to say, like, yeah, that's why they've had too
- 1:21:11Speaker 7: many misses in the draft, that they're just trying to
- 1:21:13Speaker 7: draft like, you know, nice guys who are gonna do
- 1:21:15Speaker 7: what they're told. I do think that they are trying to,
- 1:21:17Speaker 7: you know, project guys that can handle the demands of
- 1:21:20Speaker 7: this place and what they ask of them.
- 1:21:22Speaker 1: I don't know, I've said it recently, if Bill's philosophy
- 1:21:26Speaker 1: on drafting was simply he's the best guy that fits
- 1:21:29Speaker 1: our system and he's a good football player. Great, but
- 1:21:32Speaker 1: there's all this other stuff that he factors in. Who's
- 1:21:35Speaker 1: his head coach? You know?
- 1:21:36Speaker 3: Do I owe a favor? Do I want a favor?
- 1:21:38Speaker 3: Has he been loyal to me? I want to be
- 1:21:40Speaker 3: loyal to them?
- 1:21:41Speaker 1: Do I like that school?
- 1:21:42Speaker 4: Did it?
- 1:21:42Speaker 1: Ba? Buh? You know? And I think that's too much
- 1:21:46Speaker 1: of what goes into his decisions, you know, like the
- 1:21:50Speaker 1: whole the whole Great Chiano period. I'm not saying that
- 1:21:54Speaker 1: Slater wasn't good or Deron Harmon or Logan Ryan, but
- 1:21:59Speaker 1: but but it's not Slater, but you know all the
- 1:22:02Speaker 1: guys that they harmon. I met mccorty when I said, Slater,
- 1:22:08Speaker 1: leave that one.
- 1:22:08Speaker 7: Like justin Fritz, it.
- 1:22:09Speaker 1: Was so obvious that he was doing a favor for
- 1:22:12Speaker 1: Greg Shiano and and and you know, boosting the program
- 1:22:15Speaker 1: and boosting the Rutgers program like that should not be
- 1:22:19Speaker 1: a factor, you know, And only Bill Belichick could get
- 1:22:22Speaker 1: away with that. Any other GM or head coach the
- 1:22:25Speaker 1: only be like what are you doing? Yeah, I mean,
- 1:22:26Speaker 1: what are you doing? I don't care if your son
- 1:22:29Speaker 1: played there.
- 1:22:30Speaker 7: Yeah, it's just striking because your second and third round
- 1:22:32Speaker 7: pick are just kind of sitting on the bench and
- 1:22:34Speaker 7: playing minor roles right now. Meanwhile, you are having to
- 1:22:36Speaker 7: like scramble to find just a tackle to play, and
- 1:22:40Speaker 7: among other positions or I don't.
- 1:22:42Speaker 3: Know, a quarterback because you just keep letting them go.
- 1:22:45Speaker 3: You know, you're exposing them to be plucked off your
- 1:22:47Speaker 3: practice squad, and you think enough of it that you
- 1:22:50Speaker 3: immediately replaced them every time it happens.
- 1:22:52Speaker 4: I will say that Mapu, just from the conversations I've
- 1:22:55Speaker 4: had with him, really is a bright football high IQ
- 1:23:00Speaker 4: on mine for a young kid, Like he's level, he's
- 1:23:04Speaker 4: definitely beyond that. I know he's he's really like he
- 1:23:08Speaker 4: can really talk the game at a high level. But
- 1:23:12Speaker 4: I think with him, you know, we mentioned Dugger a
- 1:23:15Speaker 4: little bit earlier in the show, like that that's who
- 1:23:17Speaker 4: he's here to replace. And it just is odd to
- 1:23:19Speaker 4: me that at certain positions there they are continuing to
- 1:23:23Speaker 4: try to be a step ahead of holes that are
- 1:23:26Speaker 4: coming down the road, but other positions just get the
- 1:23:29Speaker 4: same thing but completely ignored.
- 1:23:31Speaker 7: Like it's just that didn't like positions that they used
- 1:23:33Speaker 7: to do that to tackle.
- 1:23:34Speaker 4: Right gets ignored. But strong safety. We now have six
- 1:23:38Speaker 4: of those guys like, so don't worry about that position
- 1:23:41Speaker 4: and a guy who played.
- 1:23:42Speaker 3: Like extensive snaps at that position who doesn't even get.
- 1:23:45Speaker 1: On the field.
- 1:23:45Speaker 7: And yeah, right, he's the poor guy. You know, he
- 1:23:49Speaker 7: seems he's he was, He seemed like he was emerging
- 1:23:51Speaker 7: as like a team leader a guy, and now this
- 1:23:53Speaker 7: year he is. I mean, I I think he's under
- 1:23:55Speaker 7: contract for next year, but I would be surprised if
- 1:23:57Speaker 7: he's back.
- 1:23:59Speaker 1: Jeff in Brooklyn says Bill will leave. Bill will have
- 1:24:03Speaker 1: success elsewhere. He liked Brady at a certain point in time,
- 1:24:06Speaker 1: expressed that he didn't want to be here, but he's
- 1:24:09Speaker 1: the coach n GM, so his mutinous outbursts have greater ramifications.
- 1:24:13Speaker 1: Bill's the best, like Brady, but it's run its course.
- 1:24:17Speaker 1: I don't know about mutants out mutant y that's a
- 1:24:19Speaker 1: little strong.
- 1:24:20Speaker 3: I don't know about that either, But I mean, like
- 1:24:23Speaker 3: that was the one thing I took exception to the
- 1:24:26Speaker 3: gentleman in Tennessee. I can't remember his first name now,
- 1:24:28Speaker 3: Robert Robert in Tennessee. Yeah, just that you know, now
- 1:24:32Speaker 3: we're trashing this, and like, we're not giving him credit
- 1:24:35Speaker 3: for that, And really that couldn't be any more off base,
- 1:24:39Speaker 3: because I still today if you ask me who I
- 1:24:42Speaker 3: think the best coach that's ever done it is, he'd
- 1:24:44Speaker 3: be my answer. But I just don't think that he's
- 1:24:47Speaker 3: coaching now the way he coached then. And I think
- 1:24:50Speaker 3: some of the things that Fred brought up are part
- 1:24:53Speaker 3: of that reason. And I do think that they need
- 1:24:57Speaker 3: to get a little bit more modern. Did you guys
- 1:24:59Speaker 3: catch this? About a week maybe maybe a week and
- 1:25:02Speaker 3: a half or so ago, there was a question, someone
- 1:25:05Speaker 3: asked a question it might have been Callahan Alex's favorite
- 1:25:10Speaker 3: about sort of watching the league and other teams offensively, uh,
- 1:25:18Speaker 3: you know stuff, you know, something along those lines basically,
- 1:25:21Speaker 3: how much do you watch these teams? And he kind
- 1:25:23Speaker 3: of said like, yeah, yeah, we're you know, we're in
- 1:25:26Speaker 3: a day to day you know, we don't have time
- 1:25:28Speaker 3: to do. I don't watch other teams. And I'm like, yeah,
- 1:25:31Speaker 3: I understand that. Probably Bill is not being super literal
- 1:25:34Speaker 3: with that. I'm not dumb, Like I get that he
- 1:25:37Speaker 3: is aware of how the Niners has an example of
- 1:25:40Speaker 3: play offense, but like, you're not watching other teams intently
- 1:25:44Speaker 3: and trying to steal from them the way everybody else does.
- 1:25:47Speaker 3: Why wouldn't you do that, Why wouldn't you offer, you know, yourself,
- 1:25:51Speaker 3: all of the information as a potential aid to get
- 1:25:56Speaker 3: this offense in gear.
- 1:25:57Speaker 5: Yeah, it's like a stubbornness. And I wonder if he
- 1:26:00Speaker 5: is as stubborn as he kind of comes off as
- 1:26:02Speaker 5: in that regard.
- 1:26:04Speaker 3: I just wonder how much he really respects offense.
- 1:26:06Speaker 1: Well, a lot of things is deflection. So if I
- 1:26:09Speaker 1: tell you I don't watch it, you can't ask me
- 1:26:11Speaker 1: about it because I haven't built an excuse not to
- 1:26:13Speaker 1: have an answer for it.
- 1:26:14Speaker 4: You know.
- 1:26:15Speaker 1: But maybe he doesn't just doesn't tell it. I don't know,
- 1:26:17Speaker 1: But that's, you know, one of the reasons why a
- 1:26:20Speaker 1: lot of the media get frustrated with him.
- 1:26:22Speaker 7: I think it's just as striking, just the contrast though
- 1:26:24Speaker 7: to on the defensive side of the ball, and you know,
- 1:26:27Speaker 7: kind of the creativity that they employ, and you know,
- 1:26:30Speaker 7: I'm sure Brady enabled them to be a lot more creative.
- 1:26:33Speaker 7: I mean, we've talked about this a little bit. When
- 1:26:35Speaker 7: you don't have the talent, can you really afford to
- 1:26:37Speaker 7: install a new game plan every week? Like don't you
- 1:26:39Speaker 7: just have to get back to a point when you
- 1:26:41Speaker 7: just do what you do and you do it really well.
- 1:26:43Speaker 7: And I mean a lot of teams get by on that.
- 1:26:45Speaker 7: But I think they've been spoiled. You know, they've been
- 1:26:47Speaker 7: spoiled with their success and the things that they've had
- 1:26:49Speaker 7: success at and I think, you know, they continue to
- 1:26:51Speaker 7: believe that they can get back to those things. And
- 1:26:53Speaker 7: I mean that's that's been the challenge. And I mean,
- 1:26:55Speaker 7: I think going back to the call from Tennessee, it's
- 1:26:58Speaker 7: you know, does Bill want to keep in this? And
- 1:27:00Speaker 7: you know what really I mean, we heard Evan kind
- 1:27:02Speaker 7: of say what the pitch would be, you know, of
- 1:27:05Speaker 7: putting on the kind of the quarterback and you know,
- 1:27:07Speaker 7: the turnovers and those things. But I don't know, It's
- 1:27:09Speaker 7: just it seems like a big lift right now, trying
- 1:27:11Speaker 7: to get everything back in line.
- 1:27:13Speaker 1: And you know, I hate to say it, but the
- 1:27:15Speaker 1: money is a factor too. He's being paid more than
- 1:27:17Speaker 1: any coach in sports. Yeah, that's a big part of that.
- 1:27:21Speaker 1: You hate to say that, but it has to be
- 1:27:24Speaker 1: aj in the Bay Area, but from Providence. Listening to
- 1:27:27Speaker 1: the earlier caller reminds me of how much Belichick has
- 1:27:30Speaker 1: done for this organization. And I'll admit that I've been
- 1:27:33Speaker 1: very critical of Bill and extremely frustrated with this team
- 1:27:36Speaker 1: and his management of the quarterback and wide receiver position.
- 1:27:39Speaker 1: But maybe we are understanding how much the loss of
- 1:27:42Speaker 1: Bill would be would be the end of everything we
- 1:27:44Speaker 1: have left of the Dynasty era. But I still believe
- 1:27:47Speaker 1: it's time to move on, and I sincerely hope for
- 1:27:49Speaker 1: a positive end to this era better than Brady's departure.
- 1:27:53Speaker 1: I also have to say that you guys have no
- 1:27:55Speaker 1: idea how much this podcast means to us fans. I
- 1:27:59Speaker 1: listen to every episode because you guys articulate how we
- 1:28:02Speaker 1: fans feel. You keep it as genuine as we would.
- 1:28:06Speaker 1: You were probably the only thing right now that keeps
- 1:28:08Speaker 1: me interested in this team. Fred and Paul are the
- 1:28:10Speaker 1: Belichick and Brady of Patriots Radio, and I don't want
- 1:28:13Speaker 1: to hear any more about needing a raise.
- 1:28:16Speaker 3: Pay that man. You guys are performing better than ever before.
- 1:28:19Speaker 3: I'm the Brady, what are you else?
- 1:28:24Speaker 7: I think I'm the Edelman, You're the support coming late,
- 1:28:32Speaker 7: Andy was the Welker.
- 1:28:34Speaker 1: You're like, you're like Larry's Izzo.
- 1:28:36Speaker 3: No, I'm really tough yeah, you know the other part
- 1:28:42Speaker 3: of that as you were talking about you know what
- 1:28:44Speaker 3: Evan said, like the plan that he goes to Robert with,
- 1:28:47Speaker 3: and you make a good point like we don't talk
- 1:28:49Speaker 3: about the GM a lot to Fred's point, and we
- 1:28:52Speaker 3: don't talk about this. Do you think Bill wants to
- 1:28:54Speaker 3: be back right? I don't think that's ever really outside.
- 1:28:58Speaker 3: He might be just as fed up as anybody else.
- 1:29:00Speaker 7: Does he look at this team and you know, not necessarily.
- 1:29:02Speaker 7: I mean, we can talk about blame, but you know,
- 1:29:04Speaker 7: just look at the team and say, look, I gotta
- 1:29:06Speaker 7: be honest, this is going to take too long to
- 1:29:08Speaker 7: repair this. I see what this team is, and you know,
- 1:29:10Speaker 7: no matter how it's kind of ended up at this point,
- 1:29:12Speaker 7: this is what it is. And I gotta be honest,
- 1:29:15Speaker 7: I only have a few years left. I don't think
- 1:29:16Speaker 7: I have the time to put all the pieces back
- 1:29:18Speaker 7: into place.
- 1:29:20Speaker 1: Uh, Jack and Ann Arbors is a meter is one
- 1:29:22Speaker 1: point zero nine three six one yards. So a meter
- 1:29:25Speaker 1: is point zero nine three six one yards longer than
- 1:29:29Speaker 1: a yard. Very similar, it's a little longer than a yard.
- 1:29:32Speaker 3: Yeah, I gave you my schoolhouse rock.
- 1:29:36Speaker 1: Let's go. Does Bill become a law pol Patty and am.
- 1:29:43Speaker 11: Hey, Merry Christmas and.
- 1:29:46Speaker 18: Hankah.
- 1:29:47Speaker 1: Okay, okay, first thing.
- 1:29:50Speaker 21: First, I got to give a shout out to my
- 1:29:52Speaker 21: fellow wack packer's cat Chicago Christmas, the Tie and Chester
- 1:29:57Speaker 21: and Portland and spread.
- 1:29:59Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:30:00Speaker 21: Can we just keep it this sweet kid?
- 1:30:02Speaker 3: Oh No, I like I like that and I mean
- 1:30:06Speaker 3: what I said, like that, that kind of loyalty, that's admirable.
- 1:30:10Speaker 3: I think that's admirable.
- 1:30:11Speaker 7: It's hard to call into us and yell at us too.
- 1:30:13Speaker 3: Well, that's that's not for some people. Everybody does that true.
- 1:30:19Speaker 1: Unlike me.
- 1:30:19Speaker 21: It was very entertaining, but just a sort of answer
- 1:30:23Speaker 21: woman and fell them to like, you know, I've been
- 1:30:25Speaker 21: a Pats fan for almost forty years now. And Paul
- 1:30:30Speaker 21: and Mike, you know, you probably might not like big
- 1:30:34Speaker 21: or you may vaguely recall, but after the Cowboys game,
- 1:30:36Speaker 21: I said I was done with Belichick. I was a macpacker.
- 1:30:40Speaker 21: I was done with Mac after that game too, And
- 1:30:43Speaker 21: my fellow whack packer can can attest to this. I
- 1:30:46Speaker 21: said they'd be lucky to win three more games this year.
- 1:30:49Speaker 21: And I don't I can't understand. I can't wrap my
- 1:30:52Speaker 21: head around how anybody any Patriots fans being completely objective
- 1:30:57Speaker 21: can look at what Belichick is done to the offensive
- 1:31:00Speaker 21: out of the roster at least and the special teams
- 1:31:02Speaker 21: over the last few years and say he deserves another
- 1:31:05Speaker 21: stat And like you said earlier, Paul, it it just
- 1:31:08Speaker 21: looks like he hasn't evolved as far as like coaching
- 1:31:13Speaker 21: or wanting to coach offense.
- 1:31:14Speaker 13: You know.
- 1:31:16Speaker 3: That's I mean, that would be why and not having
- 1:31:19Speaker 3: any fact to back it up, obviously, I just feel
- 1:31:23Speaker 3: it feels from watching the way they play that he
- 1:31:26Speaker 3: has sort of a disdain for offense, like I want
- 1:31:29Speaker 3: to show you that any offense. And I do think
- 1:31:32Speaker 3: that this gets to the way that they coach the
- 1:31:34Speaker 3: second half the other day, like I'm not letting that
- 1:31:37Speaker 3: offense get over thirty points on me, So I don't care.
- 1:31:41Speaker 3: I'm not going to win the game because the game's lost.
- 1:31:43Speaker 3: And I get it, the game was lost, but thirty one.
- 1:31:46Speaker 3: Other head coaches would have gone for it in an
- 1:31:48Speaker 3: effort to try to make a miracle comeback. He I
- 1:31:51Speaker 3: think was more interested in keeping the other team under
- 1:31:54Speaker 3: thirty for whatever reason. I don't know how that makes
- 1:31:58Speaker 3: the defense look any better. The defense would not good
- 1:32:00Speaker 3: on Sunday, But I think he thinks it looks better
- 1:32:03Speaker 3: because they only scored twenty seven.
- 1:32:04Speaker 7: Do you think it has to do with that? He
- 1:32:06Speaker 7: kind of could be hands off for the last two
- 1:32:08Speaker 7: decades on the offense, and it was pretty much you know,
- 1:32:10Speaker 7: Tom and I know. I mean, obviously we've seen clips
- 1:32:12Speaker 7: of Brady and they meet him.
- 1:32:13Speaker 3: That's why they talked about it.
- 1:32:14Speaker 7: But he didn't really have to maybe be the driving
- 1:32:18Speaker 7: force behind him.
- 1:32:18Speaker 3: Don't you think if you put him on a lie
- 1:32:21Speaker 3: detector test, right, Brady at the height of his powers,
- 1:32:25Speaker 3: let's say, oh seven, you don't think that he thinks
- 1:32:28Speaker 3: he could put a defense together that would keep that
- 1:32:30Speaker 3: team in check.
- 1:32:31Speaker 7: Yah, take away Moss over the top, get down on Welker.
- 1:32:34Speaker 3: Which was only part of the equation that year. That
- 1:32:37Speaker 3: was two years later that he said, yeah, but like sure,
- 1:32:40Speaker 3: I mean I think he like I like I think
- 1:32:42Speaker 3: you You caught a glimpse in that Monday night game
- 1:32:45Speaker 3: in the COVID year when I was in my uh
- 1:32:48Speaker 3: was I was down in my lair the only game
- 1:32:50Speaker 3: I've ever missed when I was so sick, and I'm
- 1:32:54Speaker 3: listening to Lewis Riddick and Brian Greasy absolutely torched Josh
- 1:32:58Speaker 3: Allen out of the production meeting. Yeah, and I'm like,
- 1:33:03Speaker 3: are you kidding me? He thinks that little of Josh Allen,
- 1:33:06Speaker 3: and I believe that to this day that he does
- 1:33:09Speaker 3: not buy. I think he has respect from Mahomes the ability,
- 1:33:13Speaker 3: but I don't believe that he thinks any of these
- 1:33:14Speaker 3: guys are all that.
- 1:33:17Speaker 7: I still though, like because I kind of approach the
- 1:33:19Speaker 7: game too. I think a lot of people just you know,
- 1:33:20Speaker 7: approach the game through a defensive lens, and I think
- 1:33:22Speaker 7: that that will always be how he is and that's
- 1:33:24Speaker 7: kind of, you know, personally just when I like to
- 1:33:26Speaker 7: watch the game, that's my favorite part side of the ball.
- 1:33:28Speaker 7: So I don't know, I just it's it's hard because
- 1:33:31Speaker 7: how can you have a disdain for offense, Like you
- 1:33:33Speaker 7: have to understand you have to score points in this
- 1:33:35Speaker 7: league and you're never going to go into every game
- 1:33:37Speaker 7: thinking like, well, we're just gonna shut him down and
- 1:33:38Speaker 7: hopefully we get a point or two, you know, like
- 1:33:40Speaker 7: that like that part of it I struggle with. But
- 1:33:43Speaker 7: I do think that that maybe he's been out of
- 1:33:45Speaker 7: it and you know, he hasn't had to do the
- 1:33:47Speaker 7: things like you said earlier.
- 1:33:49Speaker 3: The way he wants implementing my point, Yeah, you know,
- 1:33:51Speaker 3: like I think that because of Brady he was able
- 1:33:54Speaker 3: to win anyway. Yeah, because Brady was just that good.
- 1:33:57Speaker 3: I think he went into games thinking I want to
- 1:33:59Speaker 3: win twenty to seventeen. I don't want to win thirty
- 1:34:02Speaker 3: seven to thirty four. But Brady had the ability to
- 1:34:05Speaker 3: win any way that the game unfolded.
- 1:34:07Speaker 7: I think that's interest pot because I mean I feel
- 1:34:09Speaker 7: like he probably every week is pouring a lot of
- 1:34:11Speaker 7: energy into the defensive side of the ball and thinking that,
- 1:34:14Speaker 7: you know, if the offense is taken care of, if
- 1:34:16Speaker 7: we can just if we can do our job on defense,
- 1:34:18Speaker 7: and that's what I enjoy, then we're gonna have a chance.
- 1:34:21Speaker 7: So I mean I kind of see what Just.
- 1:34:23Speaker 3: Like I totally admit that this is a complete exaggeration,
- 1:34:29Speaker 3: Like I'm not in any way suggesting that Bill doesn't
- 1:34:31Speaker 3: want to win no matter what the score is. Yeah,
- 1:34:33Speaker 3: Like Bill wants to win, right right, Like I understand,
- 1:34:36Speaker 3: But I'm just thinking in a perfect world, like in
- 1:34:39Speaker 3: his mind, Yeah, wouldn't it be great if I could
- 1:34:42Speaker 3: beat Peyton Manning twenty four to fourteen When the week
- 1:34:45Speaker 3: before they scored eight hundred points against Kansas City and
- 1:34:49Speaker 3: didn't punt, Like that's what he's what he's looking at it.
- 1:34:52Speaker 3: He didn't want to win that game because we just
- 1:34:55Speaker 3: outscored him like they did in the regular season game
- 1:34:58Speaker 3: thirty eight thirty four. He wanted to win it on
- 1:35:01Speaker 3: his terms. Yeah, I think if it's perfect, in a
- 1:35:03Speaker 3: perfect world, he'll take a win no matter what.
- 1:35:06Speaker 7: I see what you're saying. But I would assume that
- 1:35:08Speaker 7: like someone like Andy Reid when he looks at an
- 1:35:10Speaker 7: opponent and he says, all right, this is how we're
- 1:35:12Speaker 7: gonna light him up on offense, and that is his focus.
- 1:35:14Speaker 7: And I think probably with the same kind of thing
- 1:35:16Speaker 7: with the defense, he's like spags, keep it in check,
- 1:35:19Speaker 7: you know, get aggressive here, don't get aggressive here. But
- 1:35:21Speaker 7: you know, generally this these are the curveballs. We're going
- 1:35:23Speaker 7: to throw them on offense. And you know, I think,
- 1:35:25Speaker 7: and I mean I've talked about this before. I mean,
- 1:35:27Speaker 7: I think the evolution of the league fed perfectly into
- 1:35:30Speaker 7: the brilliant mind of Andy Reid, who is an excellent
- 1:35:33Speaker 7: offensive football coach and is offensive football exploded. He is
- 1:35:37Speaker 7: so smart he's able to take every advantage of that,
- 1:35:40Speaker 7: and for someone like Bill who posted defensively, it's.
- 1:35:42Speaker 1: Gotten harder and harder and harder. But if Andy Reid
- 1:35:44Speaker 1: didn't have a guy like Mahomes, he couldn't do the
- 1:35:46Speaker 1: things he wants to do.
- 1:35:48Speaker 3: He would need a smart quarterback, but you wouldn't be
- 1:35:50Speaker 3: as successful as he is. Mahomes put you over the top, right,
- 1:35:54Speaker 3: But he scored forty with Alex Smith against you too. Yeah,
- 1:35:56Speaker 3: that's true, like he had like Mike is first of all,
- 1:35:59Speaker 3: Donovan me now is this averages average can get You
- 1:36:01Speaker 3: went to four straight conference championship games with them. Now, Now,
- 1:36:05Speaker 3: Mahomes has made him a great coach, no, no question.
- 1:36:09Speaker 3: And there's no great coaches that don't have that great
- 1:36:11Speaker 3: quarterback to go with you. I mean Mahomes, I mean
- 1:36:14Speaker 3: any Rey was a good coach in Philly.
- 1:36:16Speaker 7: He's a great coach with Yeah, and just what I like,
- 1:36:18Speaker 7: I mean we saw it last week, Like it's just
- 1:36:19Speaker 7: he has fun on offense, Like you know the stuff
- 1:36:21Speaker 7: that he that play was fun. I a huge You're
- 1:36:24Speaker 7: not a fun guy, but but you know, like the
- 1:36:28Speaker 7: one where they get in this circle and they're going
- 1:36:30Speaker 7: like I don't know, it's just it's it's it brings
- 1:36:32Speaker 7: some entertainment to.
- 1:36:32Speaker 3: The game when they when they were like the one
- 1:36:35Speaker 3: on Sunday that was that was awesome.
- 1:36:37Speaker 1: Yeah, but the reason and when you pull it off
- 1:36:40Speaker 1: it it may it puts the defense on their heels.
- 1:36:43Speaker 1: It makes them real Did you see the replay? Their
- 1:36:46Speaker 1: heads like, oh my god, what did I just see?
- 1:36:49Speaker 1: And you're taking that to the next series of downs,
- 1:36:51Speaker 1: like I just saw something. I still can't figure out,
- 1:36:54Speaker 1: what are they going to do next?
- 1:36:55Speaker 3: There was like six people on the defense sort of
- 1:36:57Speaker 3: moving to the wrong side. Yeah, as that play was unfolding,
- 1:37:01Speaker 3: and I would say like this, you know the two
- 1:37:03Speaker 3: the touchdowns that they scored in the Super Bowl. I
- 1:37:05Speaker 3: don't know if you remember this, Mic, I know you
- 1:37:07Speaker 3: don't tend to remember plays now, you don't like football
- 1:37:09Speaker 3: like I do. Shots you remember like the little uh
- 1:37:16Speaker 3: you know, the reverse motion and you know, like and
- 1:37:18Speaker 3: all of a sudden, Sky Moore is completely uncovered Kadarius
- 1:37:22Speaker 3: Tony of all people didn't drop it is completely uncovered.
- 1:37:25Speaker 3: Those plays. I'm like, there's a lot of design, yea,
- 1:37:28Speaker 3: you know, there's a lot of window dressing with the
- 1:37:30Speaker 3: motion they're trying to confuse you and you're seeing it work.
- 1:37:34Speaker 3: You know, that's the little ring around the rosy stuff.
- 1:37:36Speaker 7: No, I know that and that and not to be honest.
- 1:37:40Speaker 3: To your head, yeah, like no, there's a reason for it.
- 1:37:43Speaker 3: And I just watched, but there's a reason. Like they
- 1:37:45Speaker 3: had a little shovel that they threw earlier in that
- 1:37:47Speaker 3: game that the Patriots kind of snuffed out a little
- 1:37:49Speaker 3: bit and stuffed it for a couple of yards like that, Like,
- 1:37:52Speaker 3: not all of them work, but Fred's right, they get
- 1:37:54Speaker 3: that in your head.
- 1:37:55Speaker 7: But even the screen pass that they had, like that
- 1:37:57Speaker 7: same thing, Like, I mean, it's schemed up that way
- 1:37:59Speaker 7: to get every but he following Kelsey and I mean,
- 1:38:01Speaker 7: just one more point I'll make on this. You know,
- 1:38:03Speaker 7: Bill talking about Ernie. Last week, and Andrew Callahan wrote
- 1:38:05Speaker 7: an article about the practice squad and what goes into it,
- 1:38:07Speaker 7: and you know, Bill pointed out that Ernie, you know,
- 1:38:10Speaker 7: was responsible for what plays are we gonna run? And
- 1:38:11Speaker 7: He's like, look, they have all these like hundreds of options,
- 1:38:15Speaker 7: but Ernie would go through and pick out which ones
- 1:38:17Speaker 7: are most going to be beneficial to us that if
- 1:38:20Speaker 7: we see something similar, we'll be able to figure it out.
- 1:38:22Speaker 7: And you know, not to make this about like Bill
- 1:38:24Speaker 7: missing Ernie. But when that play comes up, I just
- 1:38:27Speaker 7: wonder what kind of stuff were they running in practice?
- 1:38:29Speaker 7: Were they, you know, with that kind of stuff on
- 1:38:30Speaker 7: the plate, and did they you know, have some kind
- 1:38:32Speaker 7: of familiarity. I mean, look at the Wildcat game, you know,
- 1:38:35Speaker 7: like they didn't have that on the table when that
- 1:38:36Speaker 7: game happened in two thousand and eight.
- 1:38:38Speaker 1: That's another you know, we talked about Dante being you know,
- 1:38:41Speaker 1: a huge loss, Ernie might be just as big.
- 1:38:44Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:38:45Speaker 1: Uh, Jeff. In Canada, I keep hearing media outside this
- 1:38:47Speaker 1: show talking about what Bill will say to Robert for
- 1:38:50Speaker 1: why he should get to stay. This makes no sense
- 1:38:53Speaker 1: to me. I've had to fire people for this. Isn't
- 1:38:56Speaker 1: a humble brag because it's not fun at all. However,
- 1:38:59Speaker 1: I was trained to keep it short and simple and
- 1:39:01Speaker 1: go and strong and leave no room for debate. There
- 1:39:04Speaker 1: was no back and forth trying to convince me you
- 1:39:06Speaker 1: can keep your job. I just hope the media don't
- 1:39:09Speaker 1: know what they're talking about, because if there is a
- 1:39:11Speaker 1: give and take meeting, I think Bill will stay, and
- 1:39:14Speaker 1: I don't believe it deserves to stay. A couple of
- 1:39:16Speaker 1: down seasons after Brady were fine, but he's actually just
- 1:39:19Speaker 1: bottoming out now. We should have bottomed out in twenty twenty.
- 1:39:23Speaker 7: Well, I mean I disagree in the sense that I
- 1:39:26Speaker 7: think Bill deserves it back and forth and that's a
- 1:39:28Speaker 7: you know, a respect kind of thing, and he deserves
- 1:39:29Speaker 7: to state his case. And again, does he want to
- 1:39:32Speaker 7: stay like I think that's part of the question as well.
- 1:39:35Speaker 3: And it's I say this all the time. Sports isn't
- 1:39:38Speaker 3: real life, you know it? Yeah, I mean I think
- 1:39:41Speaker 3: he's exactly right. In the corporate world, do you want
- 1:39:43Speaker 3: to keep it short and sweet that it's not like
- 1:39:45Speaker 3: we're thinking about moving on from you. We're moving on
- 1:39:48Speaker 3: from you. But there's it's it is a little different
- 1:39:51Speaker 3: in sports. It is a little different when a guy's
- 1:39:53Speaker 3: won six titles.
- 1:39:54Speaker 5: You can't like, put belchick on a pip.
- 1:39:56Speaker 4: It's it's so different.
- 1:39:58Speaker 7: What's a p I was thinking of up in the air?
- 1:40:01Speaker 7: Do you guys see that movie with us taking my
- 1:40:03Speaker 7: college job?
- 1:40:05Speaker 3: Nickname? Oh yeah, Philip?
- 1:40:10Speaker 5: What's your middle name?
- 1:40:11Speaker 3: Not ignatious? No, it was from great Expectations.
- 1:40:15Speaker 1: Uh, let's go to Kareem in Boston. What's up, Kareem?
- 1:40:21Speaker 13: How does fellas Hey hey, I listen here in twenty fifteen,
- 1:40:25Speaker 13: I was sitting around a bunch of mouth breathers in
- 1:40:29Speaker 13: a waste of a city, Danver when Rob.
- 1:40:31Speaker 9: Goronkowski was injured.
- 1:40:32Speaker 11: You know what these people did, what they cheered as
- 1:40:36Speaker 11: this guy basically lost his knee on the field, heathens.
- 1:40:40Speaker 3: He was okay though, and then played the next game.
- 1:40:42Speaker 1: Right, remember that I thought he died too.
- 1:40:44Speaker 3: I was like, that was Harper's Yes, Harper's mouff good,
- 1:40:49Speaker 3: good Fred? What's up, Kareem. I'm sorry I missed you.
- 1:40:54Speaker 3: I missed you. There.
- 1:40:56Speaker 9: The point is, these.
- 1:40:58Speaker 11: Mouth breathers cheered.
- 1:41:00Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:41:00Speaker 11: So for me this week, this is a must win.
- 1:41:03Speaker 11: You know, Jirn Daniels or Darren Bay don't matter. Let's
- 1:41:07Speaker 11: get a win boys.
- 1:41:09Speaker 1: Okay, okay, thanks for listen. They had trouble winning in
- 1:41:12Speaker 1: Denver when Brady was here.
- 1:41:13Speaker 3: Right, I mean yeah, I mean obviously the cheering when
- 1:41:16Speaker 3: guys are heard is.
- 1:41:18Speaker 7: That they have ten home games a year, and you know,
- 1:41:20Speaker 7: contractually obligated High Tower went out on that game too.
- 1:41:24Speaker 7: They remember, they like ran all over him, and even
- 1:41:26Speaker 7: the overtime.
- 1:41:26Speaker 3: Overtime game when it was like a fifty yard run. Yeah, right, yep.
- 1:41:30Speaker 3: Can you remember that, Alex right vaguely? You know, you
- 1:41:35Speaker 3: don't shut up?
- 1:41:37Speaker 7: Like she was working, she was journaling.
- 1:41:39Speaker 3: I had my first job, she was channing, if.
- 1:41:42Speaker 1: There was what was your first job?
- 1:41:45Speaker 5: My first job that wasn't like SoC Treffing was working
- 1:41:48Speaker 5: at Marshall's.
- 1:41:49Speaker 7: Oh good job.
- 1:41:50Speaker 1: First, speaking of Denver, was the safety game in Denver?
- 1:41:54Speaker 1: Like the three the quintessential Bill Belichick coach game.
- 1:41:59Speaker 7: Oh, I mean, I think it's just one that that
- 1:42:01Speaker 7: showed willing to go a little bit unconventional, you know,
- 1:42:04Speaker 7: I think and that I mean, it gets a lot
- 1:42:06Speaker 7: of attention for sure, but you know, in doing the
- 1:42:08Speaker 7: three thing the way I mean it's it's not a
- 1:42:10Speaker 7: lot of the players really like talked about.
- 1:42:12Speaker 3: It was a very abnormal poor performance by the p
- 1:42:15Speaker 3: I mean it was Danny Knell led Denver Broncos that
- 1:42:18Speaker 3: didn't belong on the field with them that night.
- 1:42:20Speaker 7: And as great as that wasn't, the drive, I think
- 1:42:22Speaker 7: like Brady's drive at.
- 1:42:23Speaker 1: The end was was well. And also you know, Denver
- 1:42:25Speaker 1: screwed up by letting that right head and then I.
- 1:42:28Speaker 3: Didn't even know what happened to you. Where are where
- 1:42:30Speaker 3: are these memories? Coming from. That's exactly right. How do
- 1:42:34Speaker 3: you where were you getting You never have.
- 1:42:36Speaker 1: All these details, it's locked in.
- 1:42:38Speaker 3: Were you were you working on the three documentary with
- 1:42:41Speaker 3: that game?
- 1:42:42Speaker 1: That game? I remember?
- 1:42:43Speaker 3: Yeah? That was That was a great game and that
- 1:42:45Speaker 3: was an unbelievable throw to Gibbons for the oh yeah,
- 1:42:48Speaker 3: game winning touchdown. That was an awesome game. Ye, the game,
- 1:42:53Speaker 3: if you will. They all have names.
- 1:42:55Speaker 1: I call it the Safety Game.
- 1:42:57Speaker 3: Yeah, everybody else calls it the Lonnie Pack.
- 1:43:00Speaker 1: No, they don't. I've never heard one person Dylan's in
- 1:43:03Speaker 1: Florida saying they're saying, what's up?
- 1:43:05Speaker 4: Dylan?
- 1:43:07Speaker 10: Hey, guys, I love the show.
- 1:43:09Speaker 12: Quick question for you.
- 1:43:12Speaker 10: I just want to know it was everything you know. Now,
- 1:43:15Speaker 10: going back to that twenty one draft, I think Mac
- 1:43:18Speaker 10: was picked fifteen, would you, like, what would you do?
- 1:43:22Speaker 10: Would you take another quarterback who got basted behind him
- 1:43:25Speaker 10: or would you take another player and try and figure
- 1:43:31Speaker 10: quarterback out someone else? But I just I wanted to
- 1:43:34Speaker 10: know what you guys would do.
- 1:43:36Speaker 7: I mean, to be honest, I would take Mac.
- 1:43:39Speaker 3: I'm going to go on full disclosure. It's not going
- 1:43:41Speaker 3: to make me look good. No, I would have traded
- 1:43:43Speaker 3: up and I would have taken Justin Fields. Yeah, so
- 1:43:48Speaker 3: I can't accuse me of being one of these guys
- 1:43:50Speaker 3: to tell you, Yeah, now, I had my eye on
- 1:43:53Speaker 3: you know, I knew brock Purdy was going to be
- 1:43:55Speaker 3: great in the seventh. I just waited.
- 1:43:57Speaker 1: I can't be a fraud. I was happy they took Max.
- 1:44:00Speaker 3: I wasn't.
- 1:44:00Speaker 7: I was and I understood it at the time. And
- 1:44:03Speaker 7: I mean now you it's easy and rest it's easy
- 1:44:05Speaker 7: in retrospect to go back and see, you know, maybe
- 1:44:07Speaker 7: some of the red flags that you might have missed.
- 1:44:10Speaker 7: You know, I don't know. Do you guys still think
- 1:44:12Speaker 7: he has a chance to play in this league or
- 1:44:14Speaker 7: do you think it's over? I mean to play, be
- 1:44:17Speaker 7: good to play.
- 1:44:19Speaker 3: Yes, he has a chance to get a chance. Yeah,
- 1:44:22Speaker 3: he'll get He'll get another chance to play.
- 1:44:23Speaker 7: You think he's on the team next year, I.
- 1:44:25Speaker 1: Mean Tommy DeVito's playing. I mean no, I mean just
- 1:44:27Speaker 1: this year. There's been a bunch of guys that haven't
- 1:44:30Speaker 1: played in a while. You know, I know he's younger,
- 1:44:32Speaker 1: but you know that came out of nowhere and had
- 1:44:34Speaker 1: to play, you know, and Mac Will I think always
- 1:44:38Speaker 1: have a job.
- 1:44:39Speaker 7: Yeah. The thing I kind of been thinking back, I
- 1:44:41Speaker 7: was thinking about it today and I'm not sure that Paul,
- 1:44:45Speaker 7: you probably remember it was last year, and I think
- 1:44:47Speaker 7: it was one of the ones where like Mac like
- 1:44:48Speaker 7: did one of those embellished falls after being blown out
- 1:44:52Speaker 7: of bounds, and I had kind of a rant on.
- 1:44:54Speaker 3: Jalen Phillips of was that taken Jail Phillips?
- 1:44:58Speaker 7: You know that that was just one of the those
- 1:45:00Speaker 7: things where it was like, man, he's kind of like
- 1:45:02Speaker 7: like that, you know, with the grabbing Brian burns his foot,
- 1:45:04Speaker 7: like just the extra stuff. And that was when I
- 1:45:07Speaker 7: started to sour on him a little bit. And now
- 1:45:09Speaker 7: I just can't help but wonder, you know, was the
- 1:45:11Speaker 7: team kind of like and I'm talking about the players,
- 1:45:13Speaker 7: not necessarily the coaches, but with the team kind of
- 1:45:16Speaker 7: souring on that kind of stuff from him because I
- 1:45:19Speaker 7: don't know, I just there's just something about him. I
- 1:45:21Speaker 7: don't I don't know for sure if the team ever
- 1:45:23Speaker 7: really truly got behind him.
- 1:45:24Speaker 3: Yeah. I think you're right, And I think that that's
- 1:45:27Speaker 3: part of the criticism too, because a lot of that
- 1:45:30Speaker 3: stuff was stuff that Saban talked about, the McEnroe stuff
- 1:45:34Speaker 3: that he was a tennis bratt and they should have
- 1:45:36Speaker 3: known that. Yeah, they did know that. I'm I'm sure
- 1:45:39Speaker 3: they knew it.
- 1:45:40Speaker 8: Seeing especially defense, it was like Trent Brown and the
- 1:45:43Speaker 8: whole defense. When Malik left, it was like all their
- 1:45:46Speaker 8: Instagram it was like Malie Cunningham.
- 1:45:49Speaker 7: Died getting demoted. It's like a fart in the wind,
- 1:45:51Speaker 7: It's gone.
- 1:45:52Speaker 1: What that tells you is that there is a player
- 1:45:55Speaker 1: culture that is different than the coaching culture.
- 1:46:00Speaker 3: Annoyed by by some of that though, Like really it
- 1:46:03Speaker 3: was just Trent Brown that took a shot at the coaches.
- 1:46:06Speaker 3: You know, they all were happy for Malee Cunningham to
- 1:46:08Speaker 3: get signed. Trent Brown took a backhanded shot at the
- 1:46:12Speaker 3: coaching because go and let your ability shine someone that respects.
- 1:46:16Speaker 1: Your ability to spread.
- 1:46:19Speaker 3: And then Jalen Mills this past week with the Jack
- 1:46:23Speaker 3: Jones thing, that's reprehensible. I'm sorry. Yeah, Jack Jones failed
- 1:46:28Speaker 3: on the field and off of it with the Patriots
- 1:46:30Speaker 3: multiple They didn't know him anything. They gave him multiple
- 1:46:33Speaker 3: chances on and off the field. The on part doesn't
- 1:46:36Speaker 3: get talked about enough. Go back and watch the last
- 1:46:39Speaker 3: game that he played as a Patriot, the Miami game,
- 1:46:42Speaker 3: and tell me that he just got let go because
- 1:46:44Speaker 3: of his off field stuff.
- 1:46:46Speaker 7: No, and anything to continue on Jack Jones soon, like
- 1:46:48Speaker 7: even Jack Jones sending the Bailly like a bunch of
- 1:46:50Speaker 7: billy zappy tweets, you know, like like kind of hyping
- 1:46:53Speaker 7: him up like it's and it.
- 1:46:54Speaker 3: Strikes me as a little state that's part of it.
- 1:46:56Speaker 1: It's like, right, there's a Bailey camp.
- 1:46:58Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, that's why I think they both should
- 1:47:01Speaker 3: be gone next year.
- 1:47:01Speaker 1: Yeah, Nate in Northeast Pennsylvania. I know there's been a
- 1:47:05Speaker 1: lot of conversation about Bill's record without Brady, but I'm
- 1:47:08Speaker 1: curious if you guys can recall what the narrative was
- 1:47:11Speaker 1: around specifically Belichick during the eight team with Castle under center.
- 1:47:16Speaker 1: Obviously the team around Castle was built way different than
- 1:47:19Speaker 1: today's roster. But I'm wondering if you remember how much
- 1:47:22Speaker 1: praise Bill got back then or what people were saying
- 1:47:26Speaker 1: heaped with praise.
- 1:47:27Speaker 7: Yeah, but I think that that's one of those context
- 1:47:29Speaker 7: things where, first of all, I mean, and you could
- 1:47:32Speaker 7: hear Bill say it himself and the O nine doc
- 1:47:34Speaker 7: that they did about him, they couldn't beat the good teams,
- 1:47:36Speaker 7: that was it. They couldn't beat the Chargers, they couldn't
- 1:47:37Speaker 7: beat the Steelers. They lost to what the Jets in
- 1:47:40Speaker 7: that overtime game, I mean, and that was why they
- 1:47:42Speaker 7: missed the playoffs and they played the NFC West when
- 1:47:45Speaker 7: it was terrible. So like on paper, it was I
- 1:47:47Speaker 7: think an eleven and five season, and it looks good
- 1:47:49Speaker 7: in that regard, but I.
- 1:47:50Speaker 3: Think they literally had one They had one quality win
- 1:47:52Speaker 3: that year, and that was the second Miami game, which.
- 1:47:55Speaker 7: Like, let's let's face it, like that's kind of the
- 1:47:57Speaker 7: team of the last few years. They can't beat the
- 1:47:59Speaker 7: good I mean, it's fallen off this year, so probably not,
- 1:48:01Speaker 7: but the last couple of years couldn't beat the good teams.
- 1:48:04Speaker 1: Yeah, it would you agree that was the narrative. They
- 1:48:07Speaker 1: just couldn't beat the good teams.
- 1:48:08Speaker 3: Because yeah, but but Bill, like to the email's point,
- 1:48:11Speaker 3: the Bill got a ton.
- 1:48:13Speaker 1: Of credit credit for it. For sure, they still do
- 1:48:15Speaker 1: now a lot.
- 1:48:15Speaker 3: But I think that people overlook the fact that they
- 1:48:18Speaker 3: lunt they won five fewer games than they won the
- 1:48:20Speaker 3: year before. That's how good that team was. They went
- 1:48:23Speaker 3: undefeated and then.
- 1:48:25Speaker 7: And then defense was getting old too. Like that was
- 1:48:27Speaker 7: kind of last night for Harrison and Bruce Key.
- 1:48:30Speaker 3: But don't you think when you look at it that way, like,
- 1:48:32Speaker 3: let's just say they had gone twelve and four in
- 1:48:35Speaker 3: seven and then Brady tears is acl and you know, well,
- 1:48:39Speaker 3: then if you go eleven and five, that's really impressive.
- 1:48:42Speaker 3: But if you win five fewer games than you did
- 1:48:44Speaker 3: the year before, you're just like everybody else.
- 1:48:45Speaker 1: Well, Paul, let me ask you a question that we
- 1:48:48Speaker 1: all know. They went eighteen and won the year before.
- 1:48:51Speaker 1: Right then Brady gets hurt in the first game against
- 1:48:53Speaker 1: the Chiefs and he's out. Had Brady been healthy that year,
- 1:48:57Speaker 1: what kind of thing it would have been? You think
- 1:48:59Speaker 1: they'd have been fourteen to two. You don't think, I'm not.
- 1:49:01Speaker 3: I'm not going to tell you they're gonna go undefeated again.
- 1:49:03Speaker 1: You don't think there've been any hangover from losing the
- 1:49:06Speaker 1: way they did.
- 1:49:06Speaker 3: Did you feel like that going into that I don't know.
- 1:49:09Speaker 1: We never got it.
- 1:49:10Speaker 3: I thought they were. I thought that team was completely loaded.
- 1:49:12Speaker 3: I loaded.
- 1:49:13Speaker 7: I just say the same Pence said defense was getting
- 1:49:17Speaker 7: old though, they were getting old, and they had a
- 1:49:18Speaker 7: lot of injuries that year, and I think that those
- 1:49:20Speaker 7: were like miles building up. They lost to Sante.
- 1:49:22Speaker 1: Right, Well, but if if that's the case, Paul and
- 1:49:25Speaker 1: I'm not saying I disagree, but if they were loaded,
- 1:49:28Speaker 1: then Kansas City made a big mistake by taking Castle
- 1:49:32Speaker 1: because they should have said he's not that good.
- 1:49:34Speaker 3: Well they did make a big mistake. Yeah, but they
- 1:49:36Speaker 3: didn't give anything up for him. I didn't matter. But
- 1:49:38Speaker 3: now he Castle got. He went to Kansas City, he
- 1:49:41Speaker 3: went to the Pro Bowl, he took him to the playoffs,
- 1:49:44Speaker 3: and yeah, he was fine.
- 1:49:46Speaker 7: He's athletic, he looks fine, he's fine.
- 1:49:48Speaker 3: There's plenty of guys like that right now that people
- 1:49:52Speaker 3: are going gaga over, like Jake Browning.
- 1:49:55Speaker 1: Robin san Diego via Connecticut. A few emailers of expressed
- 1:49:58Speaker 1: significant a role this show, as with keeping them engaged.
- 1:50:01Speaker 1: I want to echo that. But add to the accolades,
- 1:50:04Speaker 1: you also play a role to the greater New Englandsporah.
- 1:50:08Speaker 3: The I a s alex.
- 1:50:15Speaker 8: I'm taking out.
- 1:50:16Speaker 5: It's probably similar to disposition.
- 1:50:18Speaker 7: I don't know.
- 1:50:18Speaker 5: I'm just using context.
- 1:50:19Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 1:50:20Speaker 1: With comments about traffic on Route one and Rhode Island
- 1:50:23Speaker 1: Island beaches, thank you for the cultural impact. Please forward
- 1:50:27Speaker 1: to mister craft over at Patriot Place.
- 1:50:29Speaker 7: People who have spread from their homeland.
- 1:50:34Speaker 3: Evan has returned, has.
- 1:50:43Speaker 7: Has returned. All right, all right, all right, I love
- 1:50:54Speaker 7: them Redheads.
- 1:50:55Speaker 4: We got four players. He just took it to another place.
- 1:50:59Speaker 7: I was gonna was Connor mcdermim's Connor Redheads. So was
- 1:51:02Speaker 7: he out there practice?
- 1:51:03Speaker 4: No, No, So four guys missing from practice, duce. I
- 1:51:08Speaker 4: want you to put on a brave face here, and
- 1:51:10Speaker 4: I don't.
- 1:51:11Speaker 3: Want to speaking of this, I assume you're talking Peppers.
- 1:51:15Speaker 3: Did you see the footage of him going down the
- 1:51:17Speaker 3: stairs after the game?
- 1:51:18Speaker 13: No?
- 1:51:18Speaker 1: No, oh god, one of.
- 1:51:21Speaker 3: The one of the one of the the foxtogs caught
- 1:51:24Speaker 3: a shot of him. He needed all kinds of help, Yeah,
- 1:51:28Speaker 3: to get down the stairs. So evidently whatever happened to
- 1:51:31Speaker 3: him on that last play that Edwards layer run.
- 1:51:34Speaker 7: Looked like he was like holding the back of his knee.
- 1:51:36Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:51:36Speaker 4: I think that might have been significant, because well he
- 1:51:39Speaker 4: wouldn't He didn't want to talk after the game either.
- 1:51:41Speaker 4: He was pretty pissed. So maybe it was injury that
- 1:51:44Speaker 4: kind of thing. Yeah, So I know, Jabriel Peppers, Remondre Stephenson,
- 1:51:48Speaker 4: Connor McDermott or Hunter Henry Patriots practice. So Hunter Henry
- 1:51:53Speaker 4: had the knee McDermott has is in concussion protocol I
- 1:51:56Speaker 4: assume I said head because that's what the team says.
- 1:51:58Speaker 4: For now, remonder Stephens an ankle, and we do not
- 1:52:02Speaker 4: know on Jabriel Pepper. You can be all right.
- 1:52:05Speaker 7: I was worried about I'm not watching the game.
- 1:52:08Speaker 4: Well, you have to forget it. And Trent Brown decided
- 1:52:15Speaker 4: to show up today, so he's participating. Very nice of
- 1:52:18Speaker 4: him to need him.
- 1:52:19Speaker 1: Uh Chili out there today.
- 1:52:21Speaker 4: Little chili, little chili dropping full pads, full pads, full pads. Wednesdays,
- 1:52:27Speaker 4: we had a nice, nice debate that was That was
- 1:52:31Speaker 4: the media media debate, Media debate. And we're doing top
- 1:52:35Speaker 4: fives at prospective positions of the Bill Belichick era, and
- 1:52:39Speaker 4: there was some real heated debate about the top five
- 1:52:43Speaker 4: cornerbacks corner.
- 1:52:45Speaker 3: Of the bill.
- 1:52:47Speaker 4: So I'll give you my so, I'll give you my
- 1:52:50Speaker 4: Mount Rushmore and then we can work on the fifth
- 1:52:53Speaker 4: one is really the one that so ty Law Stefan
- 1:52:57Speaker 4: Gilmour Drell reeves.
- 1:53:00Speaker 3: I have a different three, but go ahead, and who is.
- 1:53:02Speaker 4: The fourth one?
- 1:53:03Speaker 9: Now?
- 1:53:03Speaker 3: I'm Samuel No So some in my mind, some people
- 1:53:10Speaker 3: I'm missing.
- 1:53:10Speaker 4: I keep to leave. Sorry, that was the one I
- 1:53:12Speaker 4: was missing. And then the fifth one I immediately said
- 1:53:19Speaker 4: Sante Samuel, and.
- 1:53:20Speaker 3: They don't like that. Some people people hold the drop
- 1:53:25Speaker 3: had actually went off his hand, but that's okay.
- 1:53:27Speaker 4: Jonathan Jones, some people had Malcolm Butler, some people had
- 1:53:34Speaker 4: just really those two, I guess, so the other four
- 1:53:35Speaker 4: were locks. To me, that's the Matt Rushmore, Yes, and
- 1:53:39Speaker 4: there was wow, I'd put.
- 1:53:42Speaker 3: I think I might put Jonathan Jones over to Oh
- 1:53:46Speaker 3: I wasn't.
- 1:53:47Speaker 4: But that's just me.
- 1:53:48Speaker 7: It's hard because to Leave and Breath were such a
- 1:53:50Speaker 7: small sample size for the Patriots, and it's like that's
- 1:53:54Speaker 7: a career achievement to compare what and even like compared
- 1:53:58Speaker 7: to what a Sante did over you know, lific, terrific
- 1:54:01Speaker 7: play for several seasons, several seasons for the Patriots, I
- 1:54:03Speaker 7: mean Tylaw incomparable, and I mean and gil Gilmore like
- 1:54:08Speaker 7: after that, it's kind of like, yeah, we had some
- 1:54:10Speaker 7: mercenaries who were good here for a year, But I
- 1:54:12Speaker 7: don't really like consider a keep to leave on the
- 1:54:14Speaker 7: Patriots Mount Rushmore of cornerbacks, I don't know.
- 1:54:17Speaker 1: I like that though, I like the top five positions
- 1:54:21Speaker 1: early on, you know, early two thousands that we're forgetting
- 1:54:24Speaker 1: about the corners school otis Smith, Otis Smith.
- 1:54:27Speaker 3: Yeah, not not anybody really really good. I mean he
- 1:54:29Speaker 3: had some.
- 1:54:30Speaker 1: Otis Smith place.
- 1:54:31Speaker 4: Yeah, that's why I brought him up. But both teams,
- 1:54:34Speaker 4: I would say that I put a Keep to Leave
- 1:54:36Speaker 4: there simply because when he got here, it flipped a
- 1:54:40Speaker 4: switch for that defense. They were much better defense after
- 1:54:43Speaker 4: the fact that.
- 1:54:44Speaker 3: They were so corner starved when he got here. Evans
- 1:54:47Speaker 3: right about Yeah, I.
- 1:54:48Speaker 4: Mean I remember that was what thirteen right, and if
- 1:54:50Speaker 4: my memory twelve twelve and uh, we actually was at
- 1:54:54Speaker 4: the game, his first game as a Patriot, and I
- 1:54:57Speaker 4: remember the whole car ride. I was like, they got
- 1:54:59Speaker 4: to keep to leave, they got him, they got him,
- 1:55:00Speaker 4: and then he had to pick six I think in
- 1:55:02Speaker 4: that game. Yeah, very first game. And then Gronk broke
- 1:55:04Speaker 4: his forearm at the end of the game.
- 1:55:06Speaker 1: Does anyone remember what Bill Belichick's last public comment about
- 1:55:10Speaker 1: to Keep to Leave?
- 1:55:11Speaker 7: Yeah, but Wes Welker is the dirty has played ever seen?
- 1:55:13Speaker 10: Right?
- 1:55:13Speaker 3: How do you know that was the last one.
- 1:55:14Speaker 1: I haven't heard him say anything about it.
- 1:55:17Speaker 4: Well, apparently according to Keep to Leave that Bill Belichi,
- 1:55:19Speaker 4: I tried to get him to come.
- 1:55:21Speaker 3: Back cover tight ends. Yeah, I remember that story. I
- 1:55:24Speaker 3: didn't stop her role. I think he talked about that
- 1:55:26Speaker 3: while he was in the booth. Yeah, yeah, when he
- 1:55:28Speaker 3: was doing games, he was funny.
- 1:55:30Speaker 7: I always think of that moment though. Evan is like
- 1:55:32Speaker 7: a kind of an you know, as a defense guy
- 1:55:34Speaker 7: like that where it all changed. It just felt like
- 1:55:35Speaker 7: we've got to get a guy who can play man
- 1:55:37Speaker 7: and man up against it.
- 1:55:38Speaker 3: He was good. I just think that he was completely unreliable,
- 1:55:42Speaker 3: and yeah he was. He didn't post a lot when
- 1:55:46Speaker 3: they needed a most he he kind of wasn't there.
- 1:55:49Speaker 7: And then, uh, that's that's ad per.
- 1:55:51Speaker 4: We also were doing middle linebackers, and I'm.
- 1:55:54Speaker 7: Going to throw all of us middle linebackers, all of us.
- 1:55:57Speaker 7: They're not the mic though not the mic.
- 1:55:59Speaker 4: So we we he had high tower, We had Bruski obviously,
- 1:56:03Speaker 4: and like a bunch of terrible reporters just sclossed right
- 1:56:06Speaker 4: over girod Mayo and did not mention him in the
- 1:56:09Speaker 4: top five.
- 1:56:09Speaker 3: So we we ted Johnson in him. We we were
- 1:56:13Speaker 3: debating because Ted Johnson's better than those guys, better than
- 1:56:16Speaker 3: he's better than he was a better middle linebacker. I'm
- 1:56:19Speaker 3: not talking about versatility, rushing the passer or all those things.
- 1:56:23Speaker 3: He's a better player than Mayo by a lot.
- 1:56:25Speaker 1: Well you're just saying the typical old school middle linebacker.
- 1:56:29Speaker 4: Well yeah, but the game evolved, but that's what they played.
- 1:56:32Speaker 3: Yeah, No, he was better at that position backer.
- 1:56:34Speaker 1: See, I think I think Mayo had I think Mayo was.
- 1:56:37Speaker 3: A better overall stat compiler.
- 1:56:39Speaker 1: I I he was pile jumper.
- 1:56:43Speaker 3: He thinks, No, that was Bruski was the.
- 1:56:45Speaker 7: Pile jump I I I don't have a lot of love.
- 1:56:47Speaker 3: I don't.
- 1:56:48Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 1:56:50Speaker 7: I'm gonna stop.
- 1:56:51Speaker 3: Yeah, you could say it, say it, no, I said it.
- 1:56:54Speaker 7: No, I just I don't think. Really Mayo made a
- 1:56:55Speaker 7: lot of impact plays in his career. He was a
- 1:56:57Speaker 7: good smart player that was you know, in position and
- 1:56:59Speaker 7: made a lot of times. But you know, when you
- 1:57:01Speaker 7: need an interception there in the Super Bowl, he was
- 1:57:03Speaker 7: right by his ear and you know he doesn't get
- 1:57:05Speaker 7: around for it. Like, I don't know what was his
- 1:57:07Speaker 7: most famous play as a Patriot.
- 1:57:09Speaker 3: When he when he hit the guy in Washington to
- 1:57:14Speaker 3: get a feel of getting a pick against me. But
- 1:57:17Speaker 3: I want to say he's grossman.
- 1:57:19Speaker 4: I mean, I know, I probably, I just I just
- 1:57:22Speaker 4: was never like he's amazing, like like amazing one in
- 1:57:26Speaker 4: my mind is and like to me, Tower was amazing.
- 1:57:28Speaker 7: I feel like you got to make plays in big
- 1:57:30Speaker 7: moments and like you talk about High Tower, you talk
- 1:57:31Speaker 7: about Bruskie, we can probably all rattle off five to
- 1:57:34Speaker 7: ten plays that they eat here.
- 1:57:36Speaker 3: Like High Tower, wasn't there a game to game but
- 1:57:39Speaker 3: when he had to be, we.
- 1:57:41Speaker 5: Probably don't have at least two super Bowls without.
- 1:57:43Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, I know that's that's a great I
- 1:57:47Speaker 3: like it that one right right under his Bondom Tower
- 1:57:51Speaker 3: would be he would be my one, me too, because
- 1:57:54Speaker 3: he could do it all.
- 1:57:54Speaker 7: But I understand your point about Teddy.
- 1:57:57Speaker 4: Eddy Johnson was a really good It was a really
- 1:57:59Speaker 4: good yeah, but was all over though.
- 1:58:01Speaker 1: He was no I know that probably that makes should
- 1:58:05Speaker 1: be in the conversation.
- 1:58:06Speaker 3: Was outside, but he played inside for half of one
- 1:58:10Speaker 3: year because he had the GM signed Manty Beasel and
- 1:58:16Speaker 3: Chad Brown, thinking they would be okay.
- 1:58:19Speaker 4: You know, I we also we mentioned some like guys.
- 1:58:21Speaker 4: You know, I'm a big Roman Fighter fan from back
- 1:58:23Speaker 4: in the day.
- 1:58:24Speaker 3: I was thinking for the whole time I wanted to
- 1:58:26Speaker 3: see how many when we got to fight.
- 1:58:28Speaker 1: And I know it's a big what if, But if
- 1:58:30Speaker 1: Covid hadn't heard his hip, he might have been what
- 1:58:32Speaker 1: about Colins?
- 1:58:33Speaker 7: Anybody talking Collins? He played?
- 1:58:35Speaker 4: Yeah, A couple of guys brought up Collins, and I
- 1:58:38Speaker 4: just I'm not a big Collins.
- 1:58:40Speaker 3: Thinking Todd Collins, not that farn what you were thinking about.
- 1:58:45Speaker 4: I'm not. I'm not a big Jamie Collins guy.
- 1:58:47Speaker 1: Person a lot.
- 1:58:48Speaker 7: I mean, he's I mean, he's just seems like he
- 1:58:51Speaker 7: later people.
- 1:58:51Speaker 4: I know, yeah, but he's not like an all time
- 1:58:54Speaker 4: great Patriots Now Paul Paul perfect described him what last
- 1:58:57Speaker 4: show perfectly what I figure you said exactly.
- 1:58:59Speaker 7: But sometimes he'd make a big play, and I forget.
- 1:59:03Speaker 3: Collins was ridiculously flash play.
- 1:59:08Speaker 1: Is it fair to say that the Patriots during the
- 1:59:11Speaker 1: Belichick era never had a linebacker at any point in
- 1:59:14Speaker 1: time who was the best player on defense on the
- 1:59:16Speaker 1: team like William Some teams.
- 1:59:19Speaker 4: Have depends if you're if you're not talking about edge
- 1:59:22Speaker 4: guys like I I you know, I think those are
- 1:59:24Speaker 4: two different positions.
- 1:59:25Speaker 3: Like you could make an argument from mc guinness and
- 1:59:27Speaker 3: vrabel like yeah, like.
- 1:59:31Speaker 7: Late nineties was McGinnis, like, I mean he was kind
- 1:59:33Speaker 7: of the man, wasn't he? That was really not a
- 1:59:35Speaker 7: lot around him.
- 1:59:36Speaker 3: I mean, but that's that was to your point, the
- 1:59:39Speaker 3: strength of those defenses is like that just was no
- 1:59:41Speaker 3: weak link.
- 1:59:43Speaker 1: Yeah, but like a lot of teams, like you know,
- 1:59:46Speaker 1: Jack Lambert, I'm talking back in the day, you know,
- 1:59:49Speaker 1: Willie Lanier, these middle linebacker guys, you know, Zach Thomas
- 1:59:54Speaker 1: for the Miami Dolphins. But I mean, I think back
- 1:59:58Speaker 1: then they might have considered him there best defense.
- 2:00:00Speaker 3: I would love to play a game where Fred rattles
- 2:00:03Speaker 3: off the names of random players from the past and
- 2:00:06Speaker 3: I have to pick whether or not I haven't thought
- 2:00:08Speaker 3: they were good or overrated. I'll bet you I could
- 2:00:11Speaker 3: be within the eighty sevents.
- 2:00:14Speaker 4: You tell me that that you talk about Bruski jumping
- 2:00:17Speaker 4: on the piles.
- 2:00:18Speaker 3: Zach Thomas, I absolutely agree overrated.
- 2:00:22Speaker 4: Zach Thomas eight yards down the field made a tackle.
- 2:00:25Speaker 3: Whoa London London Fletcher. No one else could tackling machine.
- 2:00:30Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 2:00:31Speaker 3: Quote, that's like what you think.
- 2:00:34Speaker 1: It means, Zach said about pursuit.
- 2:00:37Speaker 4: You know, ray Lewis is an all time ray Lewis,
- 2:00:40Speaker 4: different different animals. Zach Thomas is you know, good for
- 2:00:45Speaker 4: you that you're you got the gold jacket. Zach Thomas please.
- 2:00:49Speaker 1: All right, well listen, that's gonna be it for this
- 2:00:51Speaker 1: overrated Patriots Unfiltered. John Rook in the playbook is standing by.

- 2:01:00Speaker 3: So I'm going to give you guys the picks.
- 2:01:01Speaker 1: Fred, just letting you know, I don't want I don't
- 2:01:03Speaker 1: want to tell people that.

- 2:01:07Speaker 3: made my picks, all right. I don't want to be
- 2:01:09Speaker 3: accused of cheating.
