DEAD DROP: "007: Road to a Million" · The Spy-Fi Guys

• 0:00
Speaker A: How far would you go for a million? We are the Spyfi guys, and this is seven, road to a million. Welcome to the Spy Fi Guys, where we cover spy Facts, spy Fiction, and everything in between. I'm Christian.
• 0:22
  Speaker B: And I'm Zach.
• 0:24
Speaker A: And today we have a dead drop for you. We are talking about the first two episodes of the Amazon prime series Seven Road to a million. This is kind of outside of our usual wheelhouse. We don't really cover game shows, but, hey, it's James Bond related, so I figured, why not? And I also got to do a special early screening of it, which showed the first two episodes on the big screen in a movie theater. So I figured, yeah, let's give this a watch and see what it is.
• 0:54
Speaker B: Yeah, it's definitely seven. I was definitely curious. We should say, though, Christian, to be more accurate, it's not so much a game show. It's more like a reality show. It's more like the Amazing Race.
• 1:05
Speaker A: Right. But it is filmed and created much differently. Now, here, actually, let me ask you, how many sort of of those reality shows have you watched?
• 1:15
Speaker B: Like, none. I think sometimes I'll be walking into a room and my roommates will be watching half of an episode of Survivor. And I'd watch that, but I don't watch much TV normally, and I definitely don't watch much reality TV.
• 1:29
Speaker A: Yeah, I watched American Idol back when they had two people from Hawaii on it in 2002 or three or something like that. And then more recently, I watched there was like, an amazing Race style show, but with pets, like dogs and their owners called the Pack, which was actually good. I got drawn in because, hey, dogs. Because I have a pup, and could my dog do these things?
• 1:58
Speaker B: I mean, sure. Who doesn't like dogs, right? That's a great hook.
• 2:02
Speaker A: That's the only thing. I've never actually watched an episode of the actual Amazing Race. So that's my background on it. So this one, it's different.
• 2:12
Speaker B: If I could jump in, Christian, I remember you telling me that it's controversial among the seven fan base because they're like, why are we getting a reality show and not a movie?
• 2:23
Speaker A: Well, I have an answer for that later. What struck me the most interesting is that it's filmed beautifully. First.
• 2:29
Speaker B: Yes, it is. I agree about that.
• 2:30
Speaker A: Looks beautiful. They make a good use of the James Bond. I think they use a bunch of soundtracks from the Daniel Craig era. A lot of them are written by either David Arnold or Hans Zimmer, or I guess Thomas Newman is the other guy. But the weird thing for me was you get dropped into it pretty much. And you never get any explanation about the. Yes. Like, and so you're just told know. Okay, you have these. Sorry, nine pairs, and they all could win up to a million pounds. But I didn't know, are they competing against each other or just going as far as they can? What happens if they get a question wrong? Does that mean they're eliminated right off the bat? And if they're eliminated, do they keep what money they've earned up to that point? These are things that I didn't know. And so I'm like, you learn some of this as you're watching, but others is just sort of not really clear.
• 3:35
Speaker B: In the first two episodes, they do not answer your last question. They don't explain whether you get to keep them. If it's like, who wants to be a millionaire? Or you keep their money.
• 3:47
Speaker A: So that was one thing also, the interesting thing is that none of the contestants, at least in those first two episodes, meet each other. It's not like they're competing against each other. There's a difference in that way, which.
• 3:57
Speaker B: I actually kind of like that because although it would be more dramatic if you know that only one group of people can come home with the million, I also kind of like that it's not so vicious where they're against one another. Kind of like survivor, which is, I.
• 4:13
Speaker A: Think, the difference between British shows and American shows. Like, if you watch, say, an American cooking reality show, it's very cutthroat. People sabotage each other, and you watch Great British Bake off where everyone's trying to get through it and they're helping each other. If someone needs extra cream or whatever, here it is. Here, take iT.
• 4:34
Speaker B: Right. I have seen that show.
• 4:36
Speaker A: That's the one that also would be, like, an exception as well. But, hey, that's Bake Off. Everyone watches Bake Off.
• 4:43
  Speaker B: It's its own.
• 4:46
Speaker A: We have in the first two episodes, we meet four different teams. We have the Bowen brothers. What are their. James.
• 4:54
Speaker B: It's like Joey and something.
• 4:56
Speaker A: Joey and James, I think. Well, I remember I laughed. Know one of them? Jimmy. His name is basically one letter away from being James Bond. He's James Bone.
• 5:05
Speaker B: Right? Oh, that's a good point. That's a good point. Yeah.
• 5:09
Speaker A: And then you have the sisters Santa and Psyka. And then you have Kamala and Joshua, married couple. And then you have Keith and Nick, who are a couple of ex cops who used to work together. So what do you think of these.
• 5:24
Speaker B: Pairs of the people? Well, I have a lot to say about the people.
• 5:27
Speaker A: Okay, let's hear it.
• 5:28
Speaker B: Well, the opening, they say, what would it take for a normal. I think it said an ordinary person. An ordinary drop.
• 5:35
Speaker A: An ordinary person. Yeah. Adventure.
• 5:38
Speaker B: Right. But then I'm like, but the whole point of James Bond is that he's not an ordinary person.
• 5:42
Speaker A: I know. It's more of what happens when you drop an ordinary person into a. Which I liked.
• 5:55
Speaker B: So it's more like everyone in the show is like the Bond girl, where they get caught up in an adventure.
• 6:00
Speaker A: Without meaning to be interesting. I didn't thought of it that way.
• 6:05
Speaker B: The Bond girls, they're not generally like a totally normal person, right. They're usually somehow involved sometimes, but not often. Yeah. I don't know. Are we going to go through the episodes or we're just kind of talking about the characters.
• 6:19
Speaker A: We're just talking through. I also do have all of the questions and I kind of want to see which ones you remember the answers.
• 6:26
Speaker B: Okay, wait, I want to talk about the questions. I'm just going to come on and say I didn't like it.
• 6:29
Speaker A: Because they weren't James Bond trivia. No, because that's what a lot of people think. I've seen out there, that people are like, why are this all just general trivia? Why is it not like. And that's the disconnect is people were thinking this is about people being the ultimate James Bond fan and it's not that show.
• 6:46
Speaker B: Is that what people thought? That's not what I thought.
• 6:48
Speaker A: Well, that's what the Bond fan community, at least some people on Bond Twitter, were like, why is it not this?
• 6:55
Speaker B: No, I didn't expect that. I'll tell you. So as someone who's played Bar trivia for a long time, as you have.
• 7:01
  Speaker A: Yeah.
• 7:02
Speaker B: It's luck. It's almost luck based.
• 7:05
Speaker A: Okay, well, there's some, like, the first round of questions is general knowledge that people should know.
• 7:12
Speaker B: Well, that's the thing, right? So the first couple guys, Joey and what's his name? The brothers.
• 7:18
  Speaker A: The Bone Brothers.
• 7:19
Speaker B: The Bone brothers. So maybe this is being prejudiced because they talk like Dick Van Dyke from Mary Poppins, but they sound like they come right out of, like, a shipyard in the back of Newcastle or something. So I was like, you're asking them about. That's. That's not fair.
• 7:38
Speaker A: Jimmy has, like, a degree in English lit or something like that. So you are being.
• 7:43
Speaker B: Was that in the intro?
• 7:45
Speaker A: No, he talks about it. He's like, you're the one who studied English.
• 7:50
Speaker B: Yeah, that's like a throwaway line.
• 7:51
  Speaker A: Yeah.
• 7:52
Speaker B: Sometimes people don't know stuff and you have a million dollars riding on it. I don't know. I don't think that's fair if the point of the game show is to be like James Bond. James Bond doesn't answer trivia. Like, maybe once, maybe once they do trivia. But to have every single step of the line be answering trivia questions, the ones where they can figure out the answer, like the tarantula one, the Python one, I like those more. That's more reasonable. Or the one where they're on the water and can kind of figure it out. But the ones that are like, who invaded Scotland in 83 AD and you really can't figure it out. I don't know.
• 8:33
Speaker A: All right, well, since you brought them up, let's talk through the question. So I have it broken down by each pair. So we've got the Bowen brothers. Their first question. What was the Shakespeare's play about a Scottish king? Was it Hamlet, Richard III, or Macbeth? Did you know this one?
• 8:48
Speaker B: Okay, so here's the thing. I wasn't paying close attention, and I thought the question was like, who's the real king? That was around here? And then Shakespeare wrote a play about him. So I was like, Hamlet's not real. Macbeth's not real. It's got to be Richard III. Even though Richard III is not Scottish.
• 9:04
Speaker A: Was Macbeth not real?
• 9:06
  Speaker B: Good question.
• 9:06
Speaker A: That was the question.
• 9:08
Speaker B: Because they didn't show the question. Again, I couldn't go back and look.
• 9:11
Speaker A: At know he was real, though. Oh, yeah, that was part of the that. Because they were agonizing about know which real king.
• 9:22
Speaker B: But then when I thought about, I was like, well, yeah, Richard III. I don't think he's Scottish. No, that's like, more an English name. So that makes sense. But, yeah, I guess I would have been out right away.
• 9:32
Speaker A: Whereas I'm like, no, no, it's definitely Macbeth. But of course, I don't have. I think it was, what, for 10,000 pounds riding on the line? So I was not, you know, oh.
• 9:39
Speaker B: By the way, also, yeah, I know, who wants to be a millionaire? Did this. But you're going to make them crawl through, like, a cold lock to get the briefcase. And then it's like waiting for them to get the answer. It was like something out of a squid game. I'm like, I'm not a sadist torturing people for my entertainment.
• 9:59
Speaker A: Yeah. So their second question, which is one of the ones that I like these challenges, the more physical. Well, we're not surprised. Physical. But they have to do something to figure it out. How long is this snake? And they had to actually grab the snake and measure it.
• 10:14
Speaker B: One of them, he just reached down and pulled the briefcase out. I was pretty impressed by that.
• 10:19
Speaker A: That was the other pair. Yeah. Oh, no, that was this one, too.
• 10:22
Speaker B: Yeah, it was the Bone brothers again. But then also, I was like, there's just a tape measure sitting right there. What I thought they were going to have to find.
• 10:32
Speaker A: I was fine with that. I thought they were going to have to estimate just like. All right, here's a guess. But the fact that they could actually do something to measure it, I like that.
• 10:40
Speaker B: Okay. But Again, what movie does James Bond measure? A boa constrictor. The Amazon note says in James Bond movies, he does wrestle A.
• 10:51
Speaker A: I mean, you can't actually have them wrestle about safety concerns.
• 10:57
Speaker B: I thought one of them was going to lie down next to the BoA constrictor to be like, I thought about that, how tall I am. But, yeah.
• 11:04
Speaker A: Third question that we see from them in the first two episodes is how fast is speed limit in the Venice Canal. Two camp kph, seven kph or 43 kph. Now, this is where I would have been out because I have no reference point in how fast things are in kilometers per hour.
• 11:20
Speaker B: Well, sure, yeah. Well, first of all, it should be knots per hour. They're on the water.
• 11:26
Speaker A: Good point. Good point.
• 11:27
Speaker B: Yeah. But I was impressed by how they figured it out.
• 11:30
Speaker A: Yeah. Because they're basically like, all right, 2 km/hour that's like nothing. And 43.
• 11:36
Speaker B: Yeah. I was like, do boats even go that fast? It's like a jet ski. I don't know. I was like, what happened to Daniel? What happened to the guy who gave them a ride?
• 11:44
  Speaker A: He just lapsed.
• 11:45
Speaker B: He just turned and ask out.
• 11:46
Speaker A: A lot of these people who they go up and ask or to do stuff. They've got to be in on it. It can't just be random people.
• 11:54
Speaker B: I mean, clearly, yeah, it's a reality show. But Christian, I must say, I must say, nothing is more James Bond than wandering around Venice asking random people where things are. It felt like I was watching a James Bond movie at that moment.
• 12:10
Speaker A: All right, so those are the three for the Bowen brothers. Next we go to San and Psyche, who have first, which army failed to conquer Scotland? The Huns, the Romans, or the Vikings?
• 12:20
Speaker B: Yeah, this I did know. Yeah, the Vikings was a good one because they're active in that area and the time period is right, but they didn't fail. Yeah. But you know what? They'll be fine. They both went to college and one of them is like a fraud analyst or something.
• 12:34
Speaker A: Yeah, right. I felt bad for them. I wanted them to continue. But, yeah, sure, they guessed the Huns, which was the wrong answer.
• 12:44
Speaker B: I guess it just goes to show, like, just because you Go to college doesn't mean you necessarily know this stuff.
• 12:49
Speaker A: Well, I was amused that they never heard of the Huns.
• 12:54
Speaker B: They'd never even heard of them. No, they need to watch Mulan.
• 12:58
Speaker A: Did they not watch Mulan?
• 12:59
  Speaker B: I guess not.
• 13:03
Speaker A: And so they get a limit on that first question. So they don't even get anything, which I felt bad about.
• 13:08
  Speaker B: Yep.
• 13:09
Speaker A: Then we go to Kamala and Josh, the married couple who know the first question. What mythical creature used to roam Scotland? Cyclops, devil, or unicorn?
• 13:19
Speaker B: Yeah, it was a horned creature. So I felt like this one was the. I think this was the easiest of all the questions they had.
• 13:26
Speaker A: Well, the devil has horns.
• 13:27
Speaker B: Yeah, the devil has horns, but he's not a creature. And he definitely didn't roam Scotland.
• 13:32
Speaker A: I don't. So depends on. Some Scots will say that one of the English kings was a devil.
• 13:40
Speaker B: I don't know if we're going to talk about this later, but this is the part which has a location from a James Bond movie, that bridge. Isn't that bridge the one from no time to die?
• 13:50
Speaker A: It is, but also they all starred in Scotland, which was in.
• 13:54
Speaker B: I mean, and also Casino Royale. Don't forget Scotland.
• 13:58
Speaker A: Oh, we're not talking about that casino Royale.
• 14:02
  Speaker B: Yeah, never forget.
• 14:04
Speaker A: Also Venice, St. Mark's Square, has been in at least two.
• 14:10
Speaker B: Well, anyway, do we not talk about the Tower Crane? Do we talk about Tower Crane now or later?
• 14:15
Speaker A: Yeah, so let's go to that. So they basically do the Crane from Casino Royale. That's to go up in the location from no Time to die, where that bridge is where he does the jump off the bridge. So it's a nice melding of two Daniel Craig films.
• 14:30
Speaker B: So I thought they were going to jump off the bridge with a rope like Craig.
• 14:33
  Speaker A: No. What?
• 14:35
Speaker B: This is an extreme reality show. But also, I cannot believe Josh made his wife climb the Tower Crane.
• 14:42
Speaker A: Hey, he has a severe fear of heights. He does not.
• 14:45
Speaker B: I mean, come on. Are you serious? Dude, I'm sorry. Maybe this is me being regressive, but it's like, man up and don't make your wife do that chat.
• 14:55
Speaker A: So my sister, who watched, who's not a big James Bond Bond fan, but decided to give this a Shot, had similar reactions to you. And then about episode five or so, she took those feelings back because of something that's revealed then.
• 15:09
  Speaker B: Okay.
• 15:10
Speaker A: About something that happened to Josh and why he has low self confidence.
• 15:14
Speaker B: Oh, boy. Well, I can't believe that she went along with it as well. That was also kind of amazing.
• 15:20
Speaker A: What I appreciate is they both could figure out what their strengths and weaknesses were, and they worked together. They communicated well as a couple, which I appreciated.
• 15:29
Speaker B: Yeah. I wonder if the producers were like, let's kind of balance who does what and all that stuff.
• 15:37
  Speaker A: Maybe.
• 15:37
Speaker B: I also feel like climbing that tower crane is, like, way harder than all the other stuff everybody else did in the two episodes. It's not, like, balanced. I feel like their challenges were way harder than everybody else's.
• 15:49
Speaker A: Interesting. Thinking about what was the second thing? They had to climb into the wind. I don't know. Wrestling or measuring a snake. Not as hard. No.
• 16:00
Speaker B: And then, like, the spider, where the spider is, like, moving all over the place.
• 16:03
Speaker A: We actually skipped the question about the. What year is this video of Princess Elizabeth and her children from? It was 1940, 1950 or 1960. I like how they logged it out here of. All right. By 60, she was already Queen because they said Princess Elizabeth. And then at 1940, she didn't have kids yet, so it had to be 1950.
• 16:22
Speaker B: Yeah. Also, as audience members, we know that the King. Because it's princess.
• 16:29
  Speaker A: Princess.
• 16:30
Speaker B: Okay, well, the King was the King in 1940, so she could have been princess in 1940 as well. So that didn't help. But they knew their British history.
• 16:40
Speaker A: They knew that she didn't have kids in 1940 yet. Yes. And then after going on the crane, they had to answer the question about the odorless, flavorless poison. And what was the main ingredient? Arsenic. Sulfur or gold, actually, for having to do such a physical challenge, it was an easier question because obviously, gold has a color, sulfur has a scent, and there's the line in, what's the Chicago song? Seville and Dead. Whatever. Some men just can't hold their arsenic.
• 17:16
Speaker B: Yeah. I mean, like, arsenic is a poison.
• 17:18
  Speaker A: Yeah.
• 17:19
  Speaker B: Right.
• 17:19
Speaker A: So it was easier question. And then you had, the last thing that we see from them is the, how much does this tarantula weigh? Which I enjoyed this. I also don't like spiders. I'm like. I was, like, feeling shivers. But I enjoyed seeing them work it out.
• 17:37
Speaker B: Yeah. I also thought that they were going to take the tank. What I would have done, if the scale was feasible, is put the tank on it.
• 17:43
Speaker A: Tank on there, and then get the spider out.
• 17:45
Speaker B: Dump the spider out, and then put the tank on it again.
• 17:48
Speaker A: I did consider that, but it didn't look like it was big enough for that.
• 17:51
Speaker B: Yeah. Or you could take a jar. You put the spider in the jar, you weigh it, then you dump the spider out, weigh the jar, and then subtract the difference.
• 18:01
Speaker A: Getting the spider into the jar seems harder than doing what they.
• 18:10
Speaker B: This isn't. I don't know. I know James Bond deals with spiders sometimes.
• 18:13
  Speaker A: Yeah.
• 18:14
Speaker B: So I guess it works. The snakes is also more Indian.
• 18:17
Speaker A: There's this tarantula in Dr. Doe, the first James Bond film, where it crawls on top of him.
• 18:22
  Speaker B: Yes, that's right.
• 18:23
Speaker A: Or actually on top of glass. That's on top of him.
• 18:25
  Speaker B: But that's.
• 18:28
Speaker A: Right. And that's the last we see in the first two episodes of Kamal and Josh. And then we go to Keith and Nick, who are the two ex cops. And so their first question is, what were the powerful family groups that ran Scotland called Factions, clans, or Dynasties? Obviously, it's the.
• 18:45
  Speaker B: Yep.
• 18:46
Speaker A: And then they go to Castle Starker, where they climb into the aviary and they're asked, what were the hawks in Castle Starker used for spying, hunting, or sending messages? And the logic, they weighed, okay, they weren't for spying because you had pigeons for that.
• 19:03
Speaker B: I did. Like how show kind of respects your time, where it moves along when you're introducing these new pairs, it kind of hurries up.
• 19:11
Speaker A: Yeah. So they guess hunting, which is correct. And then finally they have to get into this building, and they see this painting on. There's all the snakes. Another thing with snakes. But then they also have a snake inside the briefcase itself, which was funny.
• 19:35
Speaker B: Yeah. I thought they would have taken an item like a hook and lift the briefcase out.
• 19:42
Speaker A: But, yeah, so they have. The question here was, like, there's a famous portrait or painting on the wall which had been stolen however many years ago, and along with a lot of other paintings and artwork. And they're asked, how many years in prison did the art thieves get? Was this two years, eight years, or 45 years?
• 20:00
Speaker B: And then they did something smart where they looked around the room to see if maybe there was a clue around the room, which there wasn't.
• 20:06
Speaker A: What Carolyn thinks is there was a clue. Because, you see, we haven't mentioned Brian Cox at all as the controller, but he's the person who's been giving them all these instructions and all this. But when you see him afterwards, you see him with the newspaper, which has the amount. But it's all in Italian, and they can't speak Italian. So I'm wondering if it was there and they just couldn't read it.
• 20:30
Speaker B: Yeah, but they could read the numbers.
• 20:33
Speaker A: Well, the numbers were in Italian as well. It wasn't like, they weren't Italian numbers. Yeah, it was two years, eight years, or 45 years. What was your instinct on that?
• 20:45
Speaker B: I didn't really have one. I was like, yeah, 25 years. Sure. I don't know, whatever they guess.
• 20:50
Speaker A: 45 years, but it was eight years. And I like their reasoning, though, because, yeah, the French courts are notoriously harsh, so you would think it would be the harshest punishment.
• 20:59
Speaker B: He said it was 100 million pound worth of art. Yeah, I could see it.
• 21:05
Speaker A: Okay, so those were all the questions, but so going back to the teams, who was your favorite out of these pairs?
• 21:11
Speaker B: Well, I did like the two sisters. They were a nice contrast from the brothers. They're, like, college educated, not super fit. I mean, they were all, like, normal people, and none of them were super fit. They were cute. Not going to lie. Yeah, I did not. Like, I mentioned how Josh made his wife climb the crane, and then I also liked how the two cops were like then. The brothers, I guess, were okay. But the thing is, I got annoyed with all of them. This isn't their fault because it's a rally show, but they're, like, always talking. I was like, for the love of God, stop talking.
• 21:52
Speaker A: You realize, of course, that there were probably long stretches that weren't talking, and they just cut all those out.
• 21:57
Speaker B: I know it's not their fault. It's the director's fault, but it still drew me up the wall when they're like, wow, it's really cold here. Whoa, a mountain. Yeah, a mountain. It's like, oh, my God, stop talking.
• 22:12
Speaker A: There's less of that as the show goes on. So I'll say that I did watch. I'm about to start the 7th episode out of eight, so I'm well through it. There's less of that now and more. Actually, the moments they capture now are some more of the moments of introspection between the two, between pairs as well, and also getting to know, learn more about them.
• 22:38
Speaker B: Does it become more exciting like a James Bond movie?
• 22:41
  Speaker A: Oh, yeah.
• 22:42
  Speaker B: That's good.
• 22:43
Speaker A: And what I've heard is the final episode is the most exciting. So I've been trying to stay spoiler free as to what happens, what the challenge is. So I'm very excited to see what that is going in.
• 22:54
Speaker B: It looks like it dropped just a few days ago at the time that we're recording.
• 22:58
Speaker A: Yeah, I think they all released in one slump or one lump sum. Okay, yeah, on the 10th or so.
• 23:07
Speaker B: I also liked how the first episode ended with a cliffhanger.
• 23:11
Speaker A: And there are other, like, the 6th episode also ends. There are some that do, some that don't. 6th episode leads into a cliffhanger, but we chose that moment to stop. I need to know. I need to know what the answer to that question. And I guess the only other thing I want to talk about is how I was this close to applying for the show with Lance, who listeners may remember from our Tom Clancy and James Bond episodes. Until we read the fine print that says you had to be a UK resident.
• 23:44
Speaker B: That makes sense. You would have been screwed the first time I asked you about kilometers.
• 23:51
Speaker A: But I think I could have done some of the other stuff. I don't know if I could have gotten up another crate. I'll admit that.
• 23:57
Speaker B: I like to think that I could have. I used to do ropes course and stuff like that.
• 24:01
Speaker A: I mean, I used to do rock climbing, but still, that's a lot higher than rock climbing.
• 24:04
Speaker B: The part where the wind was blowing.
• 24:06
Speaker A: When she was like, out on.
• 24:08
Speaker B: I thought she was going to get blown off. I mean, she's hooked on. She would have been fine, but that would have been exciting.
• 24:13
Speaker A: Well, actually, that's the other thing I want to talk about is how much there's definitely safety people there and they're like just out of shot in all of the shots.
• 24:23
  Speaker B: Right.
• 24:23
Speaker A: And also for some of these where they're like getting on someone's boat or getting into someone's car, where is the camera?
• 24:32
Speaker B: That's true. Like, when she's climbing, was there a camera guy, like, next to her?
• 24:37
Speaker A: Some of them are clearly like drone or helicopter shots, but there's other where it's like either it's got to be super zoomed in or something, or the camera operator is climbing it. Did they get Tom Cruise to be the cameraman for these? That's the only solution.
• 24:51
Speaker B: Well, speaking of Tom Cruise, if you can't do this, you just need to write to Hollywood and say, do mission Impossible, mission a million or something.
• 24:59
Speaker A: Like, no, no. That franchise is so tightly in Tom Cruise's grasps, he will never let it go.
• 25:05
Speaker B: He'll never let them do a reality show using that movie.
• 25:08
Speaker A: He won't even let them do a TV show spinoff.
• 25:10
Speaker B: But it was a TV show.
• 25:12
  Speaker A: I know.
• 25:13
  Speaker B: Doesn't matter.
• 25:15
Speaker A: Do you have anything else to say about the show?
• 25:17
Speaker B: I liked when they call Bowie Boy, take us to that boy.
• 25:23
  Speaker A: Yeah.
• 25:24
Speaker B: I also like when they call their mom. That's totally. Something James Bond would do. Absolutely.
• 25:28
Speaker A: I've said. Seeing some sarcasm here.
• 25:31
Speaker B: Yeah. Are you asking for a rating or just general?
• 25:35
Speaker A: If there's any other thoughts you wanted.
• 25:39
Speaker B: I wanted more Bond. Make it more Bond.
• 25:41
Speaker A: Like, okay. All right. The thing is, for that, you got to ramp it up. You really do.
• 25:48
Speaker B: Do you remember the training in the spy behind home plate? No. The catcher was a spy. The catcher was a spy. When they're like, there's a man in that house, get in there and kill him. That's what I thought. Here's a paintball gun. Get in there and shoot the guy with your paintball gun.
• 26:07
Speaker A: There are so many ways that that could go wrong that I see why they didn't do that just from previews and trailers. I know there's this point where someone has to basically blows up a barn with a gun.
• 26:19
  Speaker B: I like that.
• 26:21
Speaker A: You got to start them off easy, whether it's just tramping around Scotland or like that. And then you ramp it up. The fact that they ramped up Josh and Kamala. Is it Kamala?
• 26:32
  Speaker B: Kamala.
• 26:34
Speaker A: Okay, Kamara. I may have typed it up and then autocorrect change it to Kamala, but they ramped them up so quickly to that crane was, like, crazy. But I guess they had to get something big into the first couple of episodes.
• 26:47
Speaker B: Yeah, and I'm glad that they did. Oh, also, Brian Cox. I liked his sense of humor. He also reminded me of number two from the prisoner.
• 26:56
Speaker A: I can see that. I can see that. Yeah. But I will say, having watched it, there is an answer to the question of if they actually get the money. So they get the money that they've banked. Like, anytime he writes banked, if they get eliminated. There was, after I forget someone else got eliminated, and it showed bank, like, after they got eliminated, said banked that much. Oh, that means they did get that money.
• 27:18
Speaker B: At least I could say that. Just like the weakest Link, another classic British game show.
• 27:23
Speaker A: I actually never watched much of Weakest Link.
• 27:26
Speaker B: That show I actually did watch because they did the Doctor who one. Star Trek.
• 27:31
Speaker A: See, that's what I remember seeing is the one. Which is funny because they also had an episode of the Weakest Link in Doctor who.
• 27:38
Speaker B: Yeah, it all comes together.
• 27:41
Speaker A: All right, do we want to rate this?
• 27:42
Speaker B: I also have spy Factor versus fiction.
• 27:44
  Speaker A: Oh, great. Great.
• 27:46
Speaker B: Because I'm prepared. Okay. So when they were measuring the BoA constrictor, I was like, why don't they just go outside, yell at a random Italian person, can I borrow your phone? And then Google how long a boa constrictor is.
• 27:57
Speaker A: Yeah, but they want this boa constrictor, not any other.
• 28:01
Speaker B: Yeah, I'm getting to that. So according to Britannica.com, the snake's adult length is typically about 10ft or 3 meters. But individuals of more than 18ft or 5.5 meters haven't reported. So there's no universal length for a boa constructor.
• 28:16
  Speaker A: Yeah.
• 28:17
Speaker B: Okay. And then also, I Googled the art heist MSN.com. The spiderman of Paris is the guy who did it. A guy named Vajaran Tomic from Bosnia moved to Paris at the age of ten and was what they call a second story man, someone who broke into places through the window. And he started with centuries old books. And then he used a crossbow to get into an apartment to steal valuable artworks worth about $1 million. He did that in 2000. And then in 2004, he met a gallery owner named Jean Mikhail Corvette, who directed him to get specific things so that Corvette could sell them. So then starting in May 2010, Tomic went to the Muse de Art Moderna. Sorry about these pronunciations. And he used a paint stripper to expose the screws on a window and then removed them. And then he removed the window using suction pads right out of a spy movie, cut the lock on the security gate, stole, like they said, something like $100 million worth of art, and took him two trips. It got a lot of news, and the French authorities really tried to find him. But it was the skateboarder who noticed him behaving suspiciously near the museum who tipped off the authorities. It still took them six months until eventually an informant kind of told on him. And then he was on the run. And then eventually Tomic was short on funds, attempted to rob another apartment, and was caught in the act. During the police interview, he was confessed to the theft of the five artworks. So just a little bit more detail about that.
• 29:55
Speaker A: Interesting. I was wondering if it was actually a real.
• 29:58
Speaker B: Yes, it was. Okay. And then my favorite quotes. When the bone brothers are going over the wall, one of them says something like, do a shifty over the wall, which I thought was a funny Britishism. And then when the sisters are. I can't believe they did this. And they made them walk into what it must have been a really cold Scottish lock.
• 30:20
  Speaker A: Yeah.
• 30:20
Speaker B: So one of them is going in and the other one yells at her, I'm here for moral support. Try not to think about the cold. All right, so now it's time for our ratings on a scale of one to ten martinis, one being Avengers 998 and ten being mission Impossible. Ghost protocol. How would we rate these first two episodes of seven? Road to a million. Why don't you go, like, we have.
• 30:43
Speaker A: To have a different scale of it for this because obviously it's not a spy movie. It's not a spy show. It is a game or it's a reality show. But judging it from our usual scale, I'm going to go, like, six and a half.
• 31:00
Speaker B: Okay. Do you want to expand on that at all?
• 31:03
Speaker A: I enjoyed it, and not just because of the bond. That's an interesting. Like you said, it was shot beautifully. There's beautiful locations, there's great music. There's not so much bond in terms of what the challenges they're doing, aside from the crane, like I said, and I know that it ramps up, but for the first two episodes, I give a six and a half Martinez out of ten.
• 31:27
Speaker B: That's cool. So I'm glad you liked it. I did not like it as much.
• 31:32
  Speaker A: Okay.
• 31:32
Speaker B: I figured the crane stuff was good. The endless talking drove me insane. I did not like the sadism of watching them sit there and sweat while they're waiting to see if their answers are correct. I didn't like the trivia. It was filmed well, and I liked the people, but I really can't see myself watching it unless they really move along with the pacing here. Because these episodes are 50 minutes, I will give it a four out of ten. It wasn't bad, but it also wasn't particularly good.
• 32:05
Speaker A: I think, for me, it's like I said, I'm not really a reality show person unless there's a hook. This had my hook.
• 32:12
Speaker B: Yes, it did. The perfect hook for you.
• 32:14
Speaker A: Like the pack with the dogs. Also had my hook. This also has my hook. And as you watch more of it, you get to know, like, certain teams stay on and keep going, and so you get to know them better. So that, for me, becomes more. The hook as well, is actually getting to know the teams. But for me, it was just fascinating that this is a game show where none of the contestants seemingly ever meet and that they just drop you into, I guess, which is very James Bond. You get just dropped into the adventure. You don't get an explanation of how and why everything's happening.
• 32:48
Speaker B: That's true. Yeah. I also wanted to say I like the controller stuff, but I feel like the show didn't get a good first impression on me because it's the brothers, and they're like, we had a hard life. We really need this million dollars. Now watch us suffer in order to get it. This huge Bob movie is supposed to be fun. It's not supposed to make me sad.
• 33:09
Speaker A: That's funny. I didn't think of it that way, so that is interesting.
• 33:14
