- 0:00Speaker 1: This is great. Huh, this is great.
- 0:03Speaker 2: Yeah, this is great. It's one more thing. I'm strong andy,
- 0:08Speaker 2: one more thing.
- 0:16Speaker 1: Recurning to a new pole, gen Z doesn't want to
- 0:20Speaker 1: go out to the bars and scream at each other
- 0:22Speaker 1: over loud music or fifty thousand other people. It seems
- 0:26Speaker 1: like sometimes having a conversations, they'd rather sit around at
- 0:29Speaker 1: home and have a drink or two with their friends.
- 0:33Speaker 2: Why did it take until gen Z to figure that out?
- 0:39Speaker 1: I don't know, and I don't want to like over.
- 0:42Speaker 1: I don't want to dominate the podcast because I'm a
- 0:45Speaker 1: team player. But I have never even when I was
- 0:49Speaker 1: young and slightly hip and somewhat popular, I didn't want
- 0:56Speaker 1: to go to bars and yell at each other.
- 1:00Speaker 2: It's crazy.
- 1:01Speaker 3: You'll have to weigh in on this, Katie, because but
- 1:02Speaker 3: my experience is I was out at the bars a
- 1:04Speaker 3: lots of times. We're like at a quiet kind of bar,
- 1:08Speaker 3: and everybody talking to say, it's eleven o'clock. We got
- 1:11Speaker 3: to go over to the where, And I think, why,
- 1:13Speaker 3: we're having a perfectly good time here. We can hear
- 1:15Speaker 3: each other, we're sitting We're gonna go to some place
- 1:17Speaker 3: where we're like shuffled around shoulder to shoulders, screaming at
- 1:21Speaker 3: the top of our lungs.
- 1:22Speaker 2: Are not talking? Why, Yeah, I guess, go ahead, Katie.
- 1:27Speaker 4: Well, no, I've I went through the phase of every
- 1:30Speaker 4: weekend at the bars.
- 1:31Speaker 3: And all of that, and I did too for twenty
- 1:34Speaker 3: two years, so hid It wasn't for twenty two years,
- 1:38Speaker 3: but it was.
- 1:38Speaker 4: It was a solid seven, you know, and it got exhausting.
- 1:43Speaker 4: Now when I go out to the bars, it's more
- 1:46Speaker 4: of that environment where it's just chilling. It's very quiet,
- 1:49Speaker 4: some music, but there's not a lot of yelling.
- 1:52Speaker 3: No, I never never when I was when I was
- 1:54Speaker 3: twenty years old, the drinking age was eighteen.
- 1:56Speaker 2: When I went to college.
- 1:57Speaker 3: When I was twenty years old, I had no interest
- 2:00Speaker 3: in going to the big throbbing club and yelling at
- 2:03Speaker 3: the person next to me.
- 2:04Speaker 4: And just.
- 2:07Speaker 1: Thank God for refrain from saying big throbbing club if
- 2:10Speaker 1: you can. Yeah, I've just I've never had that in me.
- 2:14Speaker 1: This golf club where I play golf mostly opened up
- 2:17Speaker 1: a new bar and uh and and it's like quiet
- 2:22Speaker 1: and classy and set up for like conversation areas where
- 2:25Speaker 1: four to six people can sit and chat and have
- 2:27Speaker 1: a drink and all in and Judy and I went
- 2:29Speaker 1: there and we were like, oh my god, this is perfect.
- 2:32Speaker 1: And then we ran into some friends of ours who
- 2:34Speaker 1: really aren't great people, but the dude was like, oh
- 2:37Speaker 1: my god, did they waste that space? Oh?
- 2:40Speaker 2: I couldn't hate it off.
- 2:42Speaker 1: Where the where are the TVs with the play by
- 2:45Speaker 1: play going and the energy? We want energy?
- 2:49Speaker 2: I want no energy, less energy.
- 2:52Speaker 1: I bring no energy and I want none thrust upon me.
- 2:55Speaker 3: Yeah, same way with restaurants. I hope gen Z kills
- 2:58Speaker 3: loud restaurants. You know whenever it was in the mid
- 3:01Speaker 3: nineties that they decided to take all the baffling out
- 3:03Speaker 3: of the ceilings and have it be open brick and
- 3:06Speaker 3: pipes so you can get as much sound reverberating as possible.
- 3:09Speaker 3: So it's just deafeningly loud, and every clink of every
- 3:12Speaker 3: glass and fork and the whole place echoes in your head.
- 3:15Speaker 2: Who wants that?
- 3:17Speaker 4: I guess easy where it's just acceptable to be obnoxiously
- 3:21Speaker 4: loud at the table. Like I remember when being in
- 3:23Speaker 4: a restaurant, you know, you had manners and you had
- 3:25Speaker 4: to be kind of quiet and polite, and then you've
- 3:27Speaker 4: got tables next to you just screaming and having a
- 3:30Speaker 4: pull blown party and it's normal now.
- 3:33Speaker 1: Well, speaking of being a team player, obviously we're a
- 3:36Speaker 1: group of at least somewhat grumpy, somewhat introverted people. But
- 3:42Speaker 1: some people obviously are energized by that.
- 3:44Speaker 2: They like it.
- 3:45Speaker 1: It gives them more energy. As they say about extroverts
- 3:48Speaker 1: and introverts. Being around people energizes extroverts and it drains
- 3:54Speaker 1: the energy from introverts. And it must be that way
- 3:57Speaker 1: with like loud bars and restaurants and stuff like that.
- 4:00Speaker 3: Well, but are you arguing that the percentage of people
- 4:04Speaker 3: that are introverts is higher among Gen Z or do
- 4:07Speaker 3: they just wise up to why are we standing in
- 4:09Speaker 3: this super loud bar?
- 4:11Speaker 1: Interesting question? Good lord, I can't come close to answering it.
- 4:14Speaker 1: Here are the stats, let's see, bubba. The new survey
- 4:18Speaker 1: finds the two and three Gen Z wine enthusiasts. So
- 4:20Speaker 1: this is people who'd rather drink wine for what that's
- 4:22Speaker 1: worth two out of three out for the comfort of
- 4:25Speaker 1: their homes when it comes to drinking specifically, home poll
- 4:29Speaker 1: of two thousand American adults between twenty one and twenty
- 4:31Speaker 1: six found those who enjoy wine only twenty three percent
- 4:34Speaker 1: would choose to go to a bar, and only eighteen
- 4:37Speaker 1: percent would opt for drinking at some sort of live event.
- 4:41Speaker 1: For gen z wine enthusiasts, having a glass as an
- 4:44Speaker 1: opportunity to be social as hanging out with friends tops
- 4:47Speaker 1: the list of activities they prefer to partake in while drinking.
- 4:52Speaker 1: But they'd really rather do it at home than out anywhere.
- 4:57Speaker 1: Maybe else because the cost of living so high for
- 4:59Speaker 1: young people and they're trying to save money. That was
- 5:01Speaker 1: the other thing because, especially because I was pretty poor
- 5:04Speaker 1: when I was young, is I could afford like a
- 5:08Speaker 1: beer if we went out, I could have a couple
- 5:12Speaker 1: at home. End of discussion.
- 5:15Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, that wasn't the right kind of bar. I
- 5:18Speaker 3: like the more like the more like people in booths bars,
- 5:21Speaker 3: because that's where I could sidle up to a table
- 5:23Speaker 3: to girls and they wouldn't notice that I was drinking
- 5:25Speaker 3: all their picture beer because I couldn't afford to buy beer.
- 5:29Speaker 2: You're that guy, and well.
- 5:31Speaker 3: Girls oftentimes get pictures of beer.
- 5:34Speaker 2: They aren't gonna drink them. They're not really drinkers. They
- 5:36Speaker 2: just they needed to have it sitting there. It's kind
- 5:38Speaker 2: of a prop I'll take care of that for you. Wow,
- 5:41Speaker 2: this is a rarity.
- 5:42Speaker 1: The judges reporting a ten on resourcefulness, a ten on creepiness,
- 5:47Speaker 1: and a ten on alcoholism. It's a rare triple ten,
- 5:52Speaker 1: a perfect score.
- 5:53Speaker 4: I could just picture you guys operating a bar and grilla.
- 5:56Speaker 4: We have Joe going around, you know, busting the tables,
- 5:58Speaker 4: eating the rest of the food, and Jackson slamming all
- 6:00Speaker 4: the beers.
- 6:02Speaker 2: Oh yeah, that's right. The dishwaker would be back there board.
- 6:06Speaker 3: The other part that I hated to this, and this
- 6:09Speaker 3: might have been unique to my crew, but we'd be
- 6:12Speaker 3: at a pool hall, playing pool, drinking beer, having a
- 6:15Speaker 3: great time.
- 6:16Speaker 2: Can hear each other having fun? Everything like that. It's oh,
- 6:18Speaker 2: it's eleven o'clock. We got to get over to the club.
- 6:20Speaker 2: I'd always be against it.
- 6:21Speaker 3: We'd go over there, but the idea was to meet girls.
- 6:24Speaker 3: Nobody ever did not in that scenario. Anyway, In other scenarios, yes,
- 6:29Speaker 3: but not in that scenario. I don't remember one time
- 6:32Speaker 3: where that turned into what they were hoping it would
- 6:34Speaker 3: turn into how many times do you have to do
- 6:36Speaker 3: this experiment before we realize it?
- 6:38Speaker 2: Let's just stay here.
- 6:39Speaker 1: Can we look at this data set place yes, So
- 6:42Speaker 1: we go there in the din and watch the attractive
- 6:45Speaker 1: girls dance and make comments to each other and occasionally
- 6:49Speaker 1: like walk by one and not get a return glance,
- 6:52Speaker 1: and then go home.
- 6:52Speaker 2: This is great.
- 6:54Speaker 1: This is what this is great.
- 6:58Speaker 2: H kill me? Yeah, well, I guess that's it.
