- 0:39SPEAKER_03: Welcome in, everybody, to the Talk and Tech Podcast, powered by Guns Up Nation, part of the Guns Up Nation Podcast Network.
- 0:46SPEAKER_03: I'm your host, Steven Rodriguez, my co-host, Tristan McGonagall.
- 0:49SPEAKER_03: Tristan, was this the greatest sports weekend of all time?
- 0:53SPEAKER_05: Some are saying, some very serious people are saying that this is the greatest sports weekend that has occurred in human history.
- 1:00SPEAKER_05: So that I mean that goes back pretty far.
- 1:02SPEAKER_05: We're talking at least a few hundred years with that.
- 1:05SPEAKER_05: So I mean, that's that's that is that is a long time if it's all of human history, you know.
- 1:10SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I think so.
- 1:11SPEAKER_03: This was definitely a top 10 weekend for me personally because I was dead alone all weekend.
- 1:19SPEAKER_03: Uh my fiance decided to leave for Houston to uh go hang out with some friends.
- 1:24SPEAKER_03: So it was just me.
- 1:26SPEAKER_03: She took the dog with her.
- 1:27SPEAKER_03: I just had me, the couch, and football for three straight days, and it was glorious.
- 1:34SPEAKER_05: And Texas Tech was watching over you and making sure that you were a happy lonely boy.
- 1:38SPEAKER_03: Yes, I ate nothing but pizza and cheez-its and drank many beers, and I and I watched Jonathan Garabay hit a freaking 62-yard field goal to beat Iowa State.
- 1:49SPEAKER_03: It was unbelievable.
- 1:50SPEAKER_05: I've been staring out my window, waiting for the ball to come over my house this time.
- 1:54SPEAKER_05: I mean, I've been hearing from other people saying that they've seen the satellite that is that ball at this point, because some say it is still traveling around the globe as we speak.
- 2:02SPEAKER_03: That would have been good from 75.
- 2:05SPEAKER_03: I know everybody's saying that, but oh my god, it was like like, okay, let's just get into the Iowa State game because uh and we have to start it off with John Garbey, because this guy is now 12 of 12 on the year, and you know, he lines up for it.
- 2:20SPEAKER_03: We're all kind of like we have a minute left in the game.
- 2:23SPEAKER_03: Iowa State just tied it, we're down on the dumps because you know, a typical Texas Tech blowing a big lead, and we're probably gonna end up losing if we go into overtime.
- 2:31SPEAKER_03: So, you know, Donovan Smith makes a few good plays.
- 2:34SPEAKER_03: Our guys are smart, get out of bounds, and do everything right, pretty much.
- 2:37SPEAKER_03: The problem is we're not in field goal range, we're 62-yard field goal, and then all of a sudden we see Sonny Cumby uh send out old Garabay, and we're like, I mean, okay, sure.
- 2:52SPEAKER_05: I mean, I literally said why not as soon as they went out there.
- 2:56SPEAKER_05: I'm like, what do you have to lose?
- 2:57SPEAKER_05: This is actually the best option you have at this point, you know.
- 3:00SPEAKER_05: Just yeah, just seeing if you can send it somehow, somehow.
- 3:04SPEAKER_03: And I mean, I it was unbelievable because he with those type of field goals, man, you just gotta you just gotta line drive it because you can't get any air on that or else it's not gonna make the yards.
- 3:16SPEAKER_03: And I mean, he just stepped in, freaking yoinked it, man.
- 3:20SPEAKER_03: It was unbelievable.
- 3:21SPEAKER_03: I like my dad called me right after we won and was like, Are you kidding me?
- 3:26SPEAKER_03: 62, dude.
- 3:29SPEAKER_05: It was a no-doubter, it was a football equivalent of a no-doubter, and I've never seen that before in my life, watching something like that.
- 3:37SPEAKER_05: And it was it wasn't even like questionable if it was gonna make it.
- 3:40SPEAKER_05: As soon as he kicked it, it was like dead on perfect.
- 3:43SPEAKER_05: It was it was going straight between the uprights, not even slightly to the left, not even slightly to the right, straight down the middle with more to go.
- 3:52SPEAKER_05: I feel like the referees stared at each other for like longer than normal, going, Are you kidding me right now?
- 3:57SPEAKER_05: Did they go in?
- 3:58SPEAKER_05: I'd have to throw those bad boys up, even though they're they're trying to give it to Iowa State the entire game, you know, holding their hands, walking them down, just playing.
- 4:06SPEAKER_05: Not really, but seriously, that was awesome.
- 4:09SPEAKER_05: Seriously, one of the coolest moments I've ever seen as a Texas Tech fan, Barnone.
- 4:12SPEAKER_03: Yeah, no doubt.
- 4:13SPEAKER_03: Also, credit to Friend of the Pot, Austin McNamara, for the great hold on that kick without that hold, without the hold.
- 4:20SPEAKER_03: The kick doesn't happen.
- 4:21SPEAKER_03: So, and but seriously, though, I mean, uh, you know, it was it was great execution there with one minute left.
- 4:27SPEAKER_03: Offensively, we were fantastic the entire game.
- 4:30SPEAKER_03: Uh, you know, the third quarter we we didn't score, but we could have easily scored had we kicked the field goals.
- 4:37SPEAKER_03: There were some questionable fourth down uh play calls there from Sonny Cumbee, but uh nonetheless, we still ended up with a victory over a good Iowa state team.
- 4:46SPEAKER_03: I know they now have the same record as us.
- 4:49SPEAKER_03: Uh, it's not gonna look like no, there's no shame in that, man.
- 4:52SPEAKER_03: We're both eligible for the first time since 2017, baby.
- 4:55SPEAKER_03: How you gotta love it, dude.
- 4:57SPEAKER_03: This is I can't believe the 180 that we've done on tech football in the last like two weeks.
- 5:03SPEAKER_03: And it's all thanks to Kansas State football.
- 5:05SPEAKER_05: Thank you so much for coming in and absolutely ruining my life for at least a week.
- 5:11SPEAKER_05: Um, let letting go of tremendous Matt Wells.
- 5:14SPEAKER_05: Uh, because Sonny Cumbie, hats off, man.
- 5:18SPEAKER_05: I want to find the people that were wanted and fired after the OU game and just have a little talk.
- 5:22SPEAKER_05: Let's just sit down, grab a beer, let's just discuss what the thought process was there, going to Canham after the hardest game he possibly could have coached in.
- 5:31SPEAKER_05: But dude, complete hats off for not giving up on this team.
- 5:36SPEAKER_05: He could have easily just thrown the towel in, saying, you know what, I need to get the head coaching job.
- 5:40SPEAKER_05: I got overlooked, you know, this is this this season's a wash, no one cares anymore.
- 5:44SPEAKER_05: But no, he was like, I'm gonna come out here and beat a team that's favored by more than 10 points and just get out there and get our boys bowl eligible because these seniors deserve it.
- 5:53SPEAKER_05: And I don't know if it was more Sonny Cumbie or the fact that he introduced this magical artifact that did uh emanate on the field that is the pump jack.
- 6:02SPEAKER_03: The pump jack was marvelous, it was a great.
- 6:04SPEAKER_03: I mean, it's the most West Texas thing ever.
- 6:07SPEAKER_03: You just see us like everybody has these turnover chains and and whatever.
- 6:11SPEAKER_03: No, the pump jack is perfect for Texas Tech.
- 6:14SPEAKER_03: You get a dude making a big play, you go and spin that thing, everybody goes wild, everybody was loving it.
- 6:20SPEAKER_03: I never I didn't see one bad thing said about the pump jack, it was awesome.
- 6:25SPEAKER_05: No matter what comes of the cumby era that we're that we're shortly living in, whether he retains on the staff or not, even though I think you and I are thinking he will, the pump jack better stay.
- 6:35SPEAKER_05: It better be a let's go pump jack save McGuire.
- 6:39SPEAKER_05: Let's go.
- 6:39SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and I mean, uh on it, truly and honestly, so what Sonny Cumby has done with this team in such a short time uh has been nothing short of amazing.
- 6:49SPEAKER_03: Because, you know, for for these guys to get their head coach fired mid-season, uh, you know, you can lose the locker room very, very easily.
- 6:57SPEAKER_03: You can just kind of cruise through the rest of the season.
- 7:00SPEAKER_03: You're you have three tough opponents left on the schedule, you know, and and uh, you know, you'll talk about that OU game, but man, they had they had four days to prepare for that after getting some insane news and OUs of you know, they're undefeated number three team at the time.
- 7:15SPEAKER_03: So yeah, we can understand losing Oklahoma, but for him to get this team so well prepared for this game against Iowa State was unreal.
- 7:24SPEAKER_03: I mean, bringing in new quarterback, and then we'll talk about Donovan Smith and how fantastic he was, but the the commitment to how he was calling the plays and having Donovan go to him at the sideline pretty much every play.
- 7:36SPEAKER_03: I mean, that's coaching, man.
- 7:38SPEAKER_03: That he knew that's what he needed to do to win the game, and what would be best for Donovan Smith to go out there and play a fantastic game.
- 7:47SPEAKER_03: So uh man, all credit to Sonny Cumbe.
- 7:50SPEAKER_03: He he that win goes to him and John Garrabe, man.
- 7:53SPEAKER_05: Yeah, he could absolutely call plays, man.
- 7:55SPEAKER_05: It's it's it was unreal to see him just walk out there and act like he's been coaching this team for years.
- 8:00SPEAKER_05: So yeah, I mean, you and I have been talking on this podcast, and we never thought that Sonny Cumbey's ever been the issue with this team.
- 8:05SPEAKER_05: Offense has actually taken a step forward this season 100.
- 8:08SPEAKER_05: And the quarter play we can see the quarterback play really evolve now, seeing it with with Sonny Cumby having full control over this team because this Lubit kid in Donovan Smith might be the greatest quarterback of all time.
- 8:21SPEAKER_05: I mean, I don't think we've ever had a quarterback that's as good as Donovan Smith.
- 8:24SPEAKER_05: Not one, I don't even think we've had like an NFL MVP that's uh you know that's that's even close to Donovan Smith.
- 8:29SPEAKER_05: Just kidding, but no, it's so good to see uh quarterback play return to Texas Tech, like we know it, we know in Love It.
- 8:35SPEAKER_05: So I'm insanely impressed with this young man coming out there and doing his stuff.
- 8:40SPEAKER_03: Yeah, he he came out there 25 for 32, uh 322 yards, three touchdowns, had the pick, but that was 100 not his fault on that one.
- 8:51SPEAKER_03: Um, just the poise that he played with in the pocket and escaping.
- 8:56SPEAKER_03: I mean, he avoided five different times he could have gotten sacked, and he escaped it, made a play.
- 9:01SPEAKER_03: I mean, the he's he's I don't know what Matt Wells was watching.
- 9:06SPEAKER_03: The you know, after Tyler Shuck went out, and uh we understand that Henry Columbi's his guy, he's the most experienced.
- 9:14SPEAKER_03: You know, even we said, yeah, uh, you know, you should go with Columbi, he's the he's the choice here, you know.
- 9:19SPEAKER_03: Donovan's on inexperienced, but we're not at practice, you know.
- 9:23SPEAKER_03: We don't know what Baron Morton looks like in practice, we don't know what Donovan Smith looks like in practice.
- 9:27SPEAKER_03: And if this was the same guy that was showing up in practice, I mean, they should have gone with him from the start, man.
- 9:34SPEAKER_03: And I'll eat my words on that one for sure.
- 9:36SPEAKER_03: But I for him to be this good right away was awesome.
- 9:42SPEAKER_03: I mean, it's unreal.
- 9:43SPEAKER_03: We have our quarterback, yeah.
- 9:45SPEAKER_05: Absolutely, we have our quarterback going forward for the remainder of the season, I would say.
- 9:48SPEAKER_05: Absolutely, you got to give him that.
- 9:50SPEAKER_03: Well, he's confirmed that too.
- 9:51SPEAKER_05: Cumbies confirmed that that Smith's gonna be the starter moving forward, and you you got to give him the respect after winning you a game that you were absolutely supposed to not win this.
- 9:59SPEAKER_05: So it all hats off to him.
- 10:01SPEAKER_05: He was so impressive, his awareness on the field was really nice to see.
- 10:05SPEAKER_05: He really reminded me a bit of a Patrick Mahomes, be able to escape, like you were saying, these sacks and be able to turn plays out of nothing.
- 10:11SPEAKER_05: He's also got legs, so he can move it too.
- 10:13SPEAKER_05: So he just had a very impressive athlete that I'm really excited to see him age.
- 10:18SPEAKER_05: He's a very young man, he's just a red trick freshman, so he's got a long career ahead of him.
- 10:22SPEAKER_05: And I, you know, I don't think the job should be promised to anybody.
- 10:26SPEAKER_05: Like, I don't think it should just be like Baron, you're here because you're gonna have the job.
- 10:29SPEAKER_05: I think it should be you got to beat this studly kid that walked on in Donovan Smith because he might be our future, because that guy can do it, you know.
- 10:38SPEAKER_05: The comparisons are already rolling him to other uh impressive quarterbacks, but I think this kid can ball, and it's great to see we have a we actually have someone we can rely on going forward.
- 10:47SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I mean, we only saw glimpses throughout the season of of certain packages that he was involved in, third downs, that kind of stuff.
- 10:54SPEAKER_03: But for us to see a full game now of just Donovan Smith and for how well he did, I mean, those throws, he you had a great tweet out there.
- 11:03SPEAKER_03: He threw so many dimes.
- 11:05SPEAKER_03: I mean, it was unit was unreal.
- 11:08SPEAKER_05: Yeah, he he has an arm and he has legs, it which is great for an O-line that is subpar right now.
- 11:14SPEAKER_05: He was able to so he'll like you said, you know, he got plenty of pressure, but he was able to combine that arm with his legs.
- 11:19SPEAKER_05: And seriously, I don't think we could say enough about him.
- 11:22SPEAKER_05: We're probably talking too much, but dude, hats off to him.
- 11:24SPEAKER_05: You'll if you if it wasn't for Jonathan Garabay, he'll the MVP of the game, absolutely.
- 11:29SPEAKER_05: So it just I cannot wait to watch what he does against OSU.
- 11:33SPEAKER_03: For sure.
- 11:34SPEAKER_03: I mean, and OSU is one of the best defenses, not only in the Big 12, but in the country.
- 11:38SPEAKER_03: So yeah, uh, and Iowa State was that too.
- 11:40SPEAKER_03: I mean, Iowa State was a top 15 defense going in there.
- 11:42SPEAKER_03: I know they had some guys, Will McDonald, uh, you know, their leader in sacks was hurt throughout the game.
- 11:47SPEAKER_03: But I mean, that's a stacked and a really talented defense that he just went against and just shredded for 322 yards and three touchdowns and 50 yards on the ground rushing too.
- 11:58SPEAKER_03: So uh yeah, I mean, Donovan, unbelievable game, uh great first start for him.
- 12:02SPEAKER_03: Uh, but let's talk about Miles Price, dude.
- 12:05SPEAKER_03: Nine uh nine catches, 175 yards and a touchdown.
- 12:08SPEAKER_03: Uh his best game by far, um, in the in the red and black.
- 12:12SPEAKER_03: I mean, as a as a sophomore, I believe now.
- 12:15SPEAKER_03: Uh, he's I mean, key catches at the right time in certain situations.
- 12:20SPEAKER_03: He had that uh he had that one catch where he caught it about in midfield and he had the awareness to make himself go out of bounds to stop the clock.
- 12:28SPEAKER_03: Uh, you know, he got rocked on that one catch, made sure he held on to the ball.
- 12:33SPEAKER_03: Um, I mean, and the touchdown too.
- 12:35SPEAKER_03: I mean, he was he was fantastic and looks to be one of Donovan Smith's favorite targets.
- 12:41SPEAKER_05: Dude, the word the word to use for Miles Price in this game was workhorse because he was a magnet to this ball.
- 12:47SPEAKER_05: He just he wasn't exactly you know getting those red zone looks like you were you talking about with the one touchdown, but man, did he move us down the field.
- 12:54SPEAKER_05: He did his uh, you know, just his reliable job of moving us down.
- 12:58SPEAKER_05: And like I said, he looks like a favorite target from Donovan Smith.
- 13:00SPEAKER_05: I mean, averaging 20 yards of a reception doesn't stay.
- 13:03SPEAKER_05: So I I think we'll definitely be looking to use him a little bit more too.
- 13:07SPEAKER_05: I mean, all respect to easy, but it's just so great to see other players break out as well.
- 13:11SPEAKER_03: Yeah, well, easy did his own thing.
- 13:13SPEAKER_03: I mean, the two touchdown catches that he had, he he's a grown man out there.
- 13:16SPEAKER_03: He's uh he's one of the he's the best wide receiver in the Big 12.
- 13:20SPEAKER_03: And you know, his stats aren't gonna scream that, but if you really watch him, uh there's not a guy in the world that is gonna look he's gonna lose a one-on-one battle with in the Big Bang.
- 13:30SPEAKER_05: He's playing on Sundays, yeah.
- 13:31SPEAKER_03: No doubt, no doubt he's playing on Sundays.
- 13:33SPEAKER_03: Uh, but he was great.
- 13:34SPEAKER_03: 54 yards, two touchdowns, like I said.
- 13:37SPEAKER_03: Uh go to the uh Tosh Brooks was great.
- 13:39SPEAKER_03: So Rodrick had that great uh run in touchdown there in the fourth quarter.
- 13:42SPEAKER_03: Taj Brooks, I mean, I think he had nine rushes for like 89 yards, something like that, uh, and a touchdown.
- 13:48SPEAKER_03: He had the first one of the game.
- 13:50SPEAKER_03: Um, you know, our running backs did what they needed to do, they're fantastic.
- 13:53SPEAKER_03: Taj Brooks seems to be 100% healthy for the first time since maybe Houston.
- 13:58SPEAKER_03: Uh, so you know, he was great.
- 14:00SPEAKER_03: Sir Rodrick was great.
- 14:02SPEAKER_03: Um, uh, but I dude, I mean, we we can't just gloss over the defense because I know they scored 38 points and they kind of gave up a lot uh in the second half there.
- 14:13SPEAKER_03: But uh what Dadrian Taylor Demerson and Colin Schooler did uh was unbelievable.
- 14:18SPEAKER_03: Those two guys in particular, plus the defensive line.
- 14:21SPEAKER_03: I mean, they really brought it on the defensive end too.
- 14:23SPEAKER_05: Bro, we're talking about our our defense just shut down Brees Hall, and Brees Hall is arguably the very best running back in the whole Big 12.
- 14:31SPEAKER_05: And we we shut that man down to less than three yards of carry.
- 14:34SPEAKER_05: You can't just gloss over that.
- 14:35SPEAKER_05: And like you said, in these big turnovers, these huge turnovers that uh Schooler got for us, and and our other players were snagged up and got.
- 14:42SPEAKER_05: I mean, he's just you can't overlook that, and so impressed with the way uh uh Coach Patterson turned it around because man, he really got the the brunt end of a lot of our criticism, and rightfully so.
- 14:53SPEAKER_05: I mean, especially whenever you look at games like like UT, OU, TCU, where it's just we were literally never in the game because the defense didn't let us do so.
- 15:01SPEAKER_05: So you just to see him finally pull some real guts out and show some aggression to because this is how you win.
- 15:07SPEAKER_05: Whenever you're going up against more talented teams, you have to be the team that plays guts here, and we did, and that's why we won.
- 15:13SPEAKER_05: So, just hats off, and it just an absolute team effort all around.
- 15:17SPEAKER_05: It's hard to say one unit just flat out, did better than the other, besides the special teams, just probably getting the the the top of all hats.
- 15:24SPEAKER_05: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 15:25SPEAKER_03: No doubt.
- 15:26SPEAKER_03: But yeah, like oh, I mean, what you said with the defensive line to hold Brees Hall, who is the best, if not, you know, it's Bijan Robinson, it's one of those guys, the best running back in the Big 12 to 50 yards on 18 carries, 2.8 yards a carry.
- 15:40SPEAKER_03: Uh, he had three touchdowns on the day.
- 15:42SPEAKER_03: But if you watch that game, I mean, we we held him, we would not let him get anything.
- 15:49SPEAKER_03: I mean, to be honest, he he got those touchdowns, but uh the yardage, you know, Jalen Hutchings, Tony Bradford, Tyree Wilson, those guys played a phenomenal game stopping him.
- 16:00SPEAKER_03: Um, you know, Rabbit should have had two interceptions there.
- 16:03SPEAKER_03: Uh he got one reversed and on a very questionable call.
- 16:06SPEAKER_03: And we can get to the officiating here in a second.
- 16:08SPEAKER_03: But um, yeah, I mean, Colin Schooler, you know, the most consistent guy on the defensive side of the field.
- 16:15SPEAKER_03: Um, uh just a just a great performance from them.
- 16:18SPEAKER_03: Uh, really have to watch uh the second halves though, because we, you know, it seems like we falter there and we probably would have faltered uh had John Garabay not came to the rescue there.
- 16:29SPEAKER_03: But um let's talk about the officiating because this was a big point of contention uh for a lot of Texas Tech fans out there, uh basically complaining about the refs from the start of the game.
- 16:43SPEAKER_03: Uh, you know, a lot of questionable calls.
- 16:45SPEAKER_03: Uh, I'll I'll let you say your piece on the officiating before I get into what I need to say.
- 16:50SPEAKER_05: Well, all right.
- 16:51SPEAKER_05: I mean, I'll open it up.
- 16:52SPEAKER_05: I mean, obviously, if you follow me on Twitter, you saw me complaining about it a lot.
- 16:55SPEAKER_05: Obviously, I wasn't the only guy doing so.
- 16:57SPEAKER_05: During gangs, you're a little more passionate about it, you're a little more sensitive to the officiating, where you're you know, you go straight to criticizing them really easily.
- 17:04SPEAKER_05: While in retrospect, you look back and go, you know, it's just it's a part of the game, it's their job to do this.
- 17:09SPEAKER_05: But, you know, it really did feel like every single successful drive Iowa State had, especially in the first half, it seemed like the refs really held their hand, like they they it was like a a complete soft uh uh passing interference call, or you know, just just really ticky tacky stuff in that nature.
- 17:29SPEAKER_05: And it just it really felt like Iowa State never earned a touchdown.
- 17:34SPEAKER_05: And that's what you want to see in football.
- 17:35SPEAKER_05: You want to see the teams earn their points because there's no shame in losing to teams that just you know turned out a better game.
- 17:42SPEAKER_05: But with in this one, it just it really felt like the officials went one way, uh-huh and it kind of reflected in the way they reviewed their calls.
- 17:50SPEAKER_05: You know, they would spend longer on Iowa State's favorable ones and kind of gloss over ones where we were like, Hey, is this not gonna get reviewed?
- 17:57SPEAKER_05: You know, even even Sonny Cumming called the time.
- 17:59SPEAKER_05: I was like, bro, are you not gonna review this?
- 18:01SPEAKER_05: So it's just it's really frustrating whenever even the team can feel it.
- 18:05SPEAKER_05: Um, and even our social media team poked some fun at them at the very end of the game saying, you know, the score can't be overturned.
- 18:11SPEAKER_05: So we all felt it.
- 18:13SPEAKER_05: Um, but but you know, better teams win no matter what, and we did, we were the better team that day.
- 18:18SPEAKER_05: So it's I'm not gonna sit here and say that the it the uh the the referees completely swung it because obviously it didn't.
- 18:25SPEAKER_05: So Lori, what are you gonna say about it?
- 18:27SPEAKER_03: My mentality towards officiating is I hate complaining about the refs no matter what.
- 18:31SPEAKER_03: I hate I hate the the mentality of uh people just piling on, oh my god, we're getting screwed.
- 18:39SPEAKER_03: Here we go again.
- 18:40SPEAKER_03: The refs, oh my god, the refs.
- 18:42SPEAKER_03: I get it, I get it.
- 18:44SPEAKER_03: A lot of calls did not go our way this game.
- 18:47SPEAKER_03: Uh, do I think the refs are out to get Texas Tech?
- 18:51SPEAKER_03: No, I don't.
- 18:52SPEAKER_03: I think the referees, uh, I think there were a lot of questionable plays.
- 18:57SPEAKER_03: The Eric Monroe, uh, Charlie Kohler, uh, catch/slash interception.
- 19:01SPEAKER_03: What is it?
- 19:01SPEAKER_03: The Travis Koontz, uh, did he have possession of the ball before it bounced out?
- 19:06SPEAKER_03: Yeah, uh, you know, the Dadreon Taylor interception.
- 19:09SPEAKER_03: I mean, there was a lot of stuff, and normally you get one or two of those, and tech did not get one or two of those.
- 19:15SPEAKER_03: But if you're Sonny Cumbe, if you are anybody on the football team, you can't just complain about it.
- 19:22SPEAKER_03: You have to keep moving forward.
- 19:24SPEAKER_03: And so that's my mentality as a fan is you know, I don't care if a call didn't go our way, I'm not gonna bitch about it.
- 19:30SPEAKER_03: Let's just go and let's just finish the game, let's just go and win this game.
- 19:34SPEAKER_03: So I, you know, I I I don't blame anybody for complaining about the refs.
- 19:38SPEAKER_03: I know they were they were brutal this game, I you know, uh, but I'm I'm also not gonna sit here and just come constantly, you know, complain about the refereeing in the game.
- 19:47SPEAKER_03: And I've always had that mentality with a lot of things.
- 19:49SPEAKER_03: You you need to overcome this stuff all the time.
- 19:51SPEAKER_03: And some games were gonna get the majority of these calls.
- 19:54SPEAKER_03: It just I mean, you know, so Iowa State just happened to get the majority of them, and uh, you know, it didn't help with the announcers because the announcers seem to be on Iowa State's side as well.
- 20:02SPEAKER_03: Uh, and that and that's frustrating.
- 20:04SPEAKER_03: I can understand that too.
- 20:05SPEAKER_03: You know, I think that announcing group was just awful in general.
- 20:09SPEAKER_03: Um, Beth Moins, there's a joke on uh on the Reddit college football, basically, like, which team got Beth Moins this week because she absolutely is terrible.
- 20:20SPEAKER_03: Uh, and you know, and so uh the announcing crew stunk, the refereeing crew stunk, but man, we pulled it out, and that's what and like you said, that's what the good teams do.
- 20:28SPEAKER_05: Yeah, absolutely, man.
- 20:29SPEAKER_05: And I I tell you who didn't stink, and that's Jonathan Freaking Garabay.
- 20:33SPEAKER_05: That guy is our hero.
- 20:34SPEAKER_05: And I would really like to see what the count is at this point for clutch wins from him.
- 20:39SPEAKER_05: This isn't his first one.
- 20:41SPEAKER_05: You know, we were at a game last year where he got the clutch uh kick against Baylor, a very good Baylor team this year.
- 20:46SPEAKER_05: So I'd be looking forward to seeing that happen again.
- 20:49SPEAKER_05: This against this one, but man, it's just what an incredible career this kid is happening.
- 20:54SPEAKER_05: And you and I were talking about it on the podcast, uh, a pre-pod that you know NFL teams are already, you know, looking at him.
- 21:00SPEAKER_05: You know, scouts are being uh writing up reports on him as we speak.
- 21:03SPEAKER_05: So, because those kinds of kicks they put you in in the game on Sunday.
- 21:06SPEAKER_05: So excited to see how he does going forward as a red raider.
- 21:09SPEAKER_05: And of course, it's great seeing guys have a future in the in the league as well.
- 21:12SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I think Don Williams said this was his fourth uh meaningful kick in the fourth quarter for Texas Tech.
- 21:19SPEAKER_03: I mean, the the Kansas game last year and the game that none of us want to ever speak about again.
- 21:23SPEAKER_05: That's true.
- 21:24SPEAKER_05: I gotta erase it from my memory.
- 21:26SPEAKER_03: The Baylor game last year, um, the game, uh the West Virginia game this year, and then you know, so that's four.
- 21:32SPEAKER_03: That's four big time kicks from this dude.
- 21:34SPEAKER_03: And I mean, you know, you got to respect uh Matt Wells or Sonny Cumbey, whoever decided, or or Tomerdal, you know.
- 21:41SPEAKER_03: I know we always crap on Mike Tomerdal, but uh for them giving the nod to Garabay, I know it was a it was a kicking competition going into this year, and I think they made the right choice, you know.
- 21:51SPEAKER_05: Yeah, that that kid does not crack under pressure because talk about a a high pressure situation where you know the nerves can get to you.
- 21:58SPEAKER_05: I mean, the the voices inside your head are screwed.
- 22:00SPEAKER_05: Screaming, but he can silence them and just put them through the uprights and get us these huge dubs.
- 22:05SPEAKER_05: So without him, we're not bowling.
- 22:07SPEAKER_05: And I just I can't wait to see where we land in the postseason.
- 22:10SPEAKER_05: Uh, because no one was picking us to win a single game uh since we fired Matt Wells.
- 22:14SPEAKER_03: And heck, I don't know if you and I were thinking we're gonna win, we were gonna win another game, but I I definitely didn't have that mentality that we were gonna win another game this year.
- 22:21SPEAKER_05: But you know, now we can go into this next game, and it's another one at home.
- 22:23SPEAKER_05: I'm sure the Jones will be rocking against Oklahoma State.
- 22:26SPEAKER_05: Maybe we can get this upset as well.
- 22:27SPEAKER_05: So it's a very good poke team.
- 22:29SPEAKER_05: This was supposed to be a very good Iowa State team.
- 22:30SPEAKER_05: This Iowa State team had Big 12 hopes, they had even playoff hopes, and here we are just kicking out a more talented team.
- 22:36SPEAKER_05: So uh we could tie up this one with a pretty bow because I'm gonna remember it forever.
- 22:40SPEAKER_05: A very cool moment to be a Red Raider.
- 22:42SPEAKER_03: We finally beat Matt Campbell.
- 22:45SPEAKER_03: Holy clap! Finally, oh my god, that guy has had our number so hard.
- 22:51SPEAKER_03: Uh, but no, we finally get the dub against Mr.
- 22:54SPEAKER_03: Campbell.
- 22:55SPEAKER_03: Um, Sonny Cumbee for offensive coordinator.
- 22:57SPEAKER_03: That's the last thing I want to say.
- 22:58SPEAKER_05: Hashtag keep cumby.
- 23:00SPEAKER_03: So keep cumby.
- 23:01SPEAKER_03: He's he deserves it.
- 23:02SPEAKER_03: Uh him and Maguire already seem to have a good relationship.
- 23:05SPEAKER_03: I mean, why wouldn't you?
- 23:06SPEAKER_03: Uh honestly, because our our offense has been pretty consistent all year.
- 23:11SPEAKER_03: Uh, points per drive.
- 23:12SPEAKER_03: I think we're like top 10 in the nation.
- 23:14SPEAKER_03: I think I saw that stat today.
- 23:15SPEAKER_03: So um, you know, keep Sonny Cumby.
- 23:18SPEAKER_03: I think he's a player's coach through and through the guys.
- 23:20SPEAKER_03: He has rallied the troops, man.
- 23:22SPEAKER_03: He's rallied the troops with this team.
- 23:24SPEAKER_03: He's he's put the pump jack mentality into this program.
- 23:27SPEAKER_03: He's brought so much good to Texas Tech.
- 23:30SPEAKER_03: And I mean, you know, and and obviously, you know, tech, you know, golden boy.
- 23:34SPEAKER_03: So absolutely uh keep him on uh 100.
- 23:37SPEAKER_03: We support Sonny Cumbie for offensive coordinator.
- 23:39SPEAKER_05: Absolutely, and having more West Texas guys on the stack doesn't sink either, especially one that has just a knack for quarterback.
- 23:45SPEAKER_05: So I also agree.
- 23:46SPEAKER_05: Hashtag keepCumby.
- 23:48SPEAKER_05: All right, man.
- 23:48SPEAKER_05: What is next on the docket on this episode, which is a glorious episode?
- 23:52SPEAKER_03: We're gonna talk a little Oklahoma State right now to keep it on the football, and then we'll move on to the other sports.
- 23:58SPEAKER_03: Uh, just a short little preview, kind of some expectations of what we're thinking.
- 24:02SPEAKER_03: Uh, it is senior night, like you mentioned.
- 24:04SPEAKER_03: Uh, so fans, you know, show out if you can.
- 24:07SPEAKER_03: Students go on to the game, uh, you know, support the guys that have been through uh some really rough times with Texas Tech and they deserve it.
- 24:14SPEAKER_03: They're going bowling.
- 24:15SPEAKER_03: Uh, you know, they deserve to have a big crowd out there.
- 24:17SPEAKER_03: Schooler, Rico Jeffers, uh, DeMarcus Fields, Garabay.
- 24:21SPEAKER_03: I mean, all these seniors, you know, they deserve to uh go out on a good note.
- 24:25SPEAKER_03: So please show up to the game.
- 24:26SPEAKER_03: That's gonna be it's a night game, 7 p.m.
- 24:28SPEAKER_03: on Fox, uh, you know, prime time against number 10 Oklahoma State.
- 24:32SPEAKER_03: It's everything you'd want for a big time game.
- 24:34SPEAKER_05: Yeah, and the fans deserve this too.
- 24:36SPEAKER_05: I mean, we've had it hard as well.
- 24:37SPEAKER_05: We're the ones supporting these guys too.
- 24:38SPEAKER_05: So, and then I'm sure a lot of you students and a lot of you fans in the area are kicking yourself for not being there because we rushed the field.
- 24:44SPEAKER_05: And I I think that was a completely passable rush field because you do not win games like that, you don't win games on 62-yard field goals.
- 24:52SPEAKER_05: It doesn't happen in college, rarely happens in NFL as well.
- 24:55SPEAKER_05: So, and after you know, breaking a losing streak to its to this team and going bowl eligible, I think they deserve that rush.
- 25:01SPEAKER_05: So, make sure you get this loud and rowdy because if you upset Oklahoma State, you 1000% can rush the field against this top 10 Oklahoma State.
- 25:09SPEAKER_05: So get out there, go ruin Mike Mike Gundy's season and let's let's get this.
- 25:16SPEAKER_03: Yeah, 100% go try to ruin their Big 12 title hopes.
- 25:19SPEAKER_03: Uh, you know, you don't want Oklahoma to win it, and you really don't want Baylor to win it either, but still, you know, you try to you try to get this dub, uh, most importantly, that's what we care about here.
- 25:28SPEAKER_03: Yeah, uh, you know, like we mentioned earlier, Oklahoma State is a fantastic defense.
- 25:32SPEAKER_03: Uh, they have so many guys there they are holding opponents, they are crushing them on the defensive side of the ball.
- 25:39SPEAKER_03: Um, so you know, that's what drives them because their offense is their offense is serviceable, their offense is good at times.
- 25:46SPEAKER_03: Uh, they have a really good running back in Jalen Warren.
- 25:48SPEAKER_03: He's really come out uh and and been one of the better running backs in the Big 12 this year.
- 25:53SPEAKER_03: Uh, but Spencer Sanders has shown that he is not consistent.
- 25:57SPEAKER_03: And that dude is, you know, he makes mistakes.
- 26:00SPEAKER_03: So, you know, if we can get the same kind of pressure and kind of stuff the uh stuff the run game like we did with Brees Hall uh with Jalen Warren, I mean, I think, you know, and they have to rely on Spencer Sanders to make plays.
- 26:12SPEAKER_03: I think that's a recipe for disaster for Oklahoma State.
- 26:15SPEAKER_03: So uh, you know, if we come out with that same mentality, I think we have a pretty good shot at this.
- 26:19SPEAKER_05: Yeah, you took the words right out of my mouth.
- 26:21SPEAKER_05: I mean, Sanders has not developed the way Gundy probably would have wanted at Oklahoma State because they usually put out some pretty dang good quarterbacks, and he's by no means a bad quarterback, but like he said, he makes mistakes.
- 26:31SPEAKER_05: Um, and that's definitely what we could we're gonna want.
- 26:32SPEAKER_05: And that's why we need a big crowd.
- 26:34SPEAKER_05: You know, the louder it is, the the louder it is in his head as well.
- 26:37SPEAKER_05: So make sure we get out there and support the team.
- 26:38SPEAKER_05: And like you said, I mean, if we could stop Bryce Brees Hall, I mean, we really helped this guy, we really held their running game really, really well.
- 26:46SPEAKER_05: So if we could do the same against Oklahoma State, I think we can we can see a similar game against uh Oklahoma State as we saw against Iowa State, and hopefully just Donovan Smith.
- 26:54SPEAKER_05: You know, there's not a whole lot of tape on this guy, it's out there a bit now.
- 26:57SPEAKER_05: But uh, if we can if he can get out there and have the kind of game he had against uh the clones, I think we have a real shot about uh winning this because Texas Tech has beaten up a ranked Oklahoma State teams when we have no business doing so.
- 27:08SPEAKER_05: We with with worse coaching with worse teams too.
- 27:11SPEAKER_05: So let's get out there and do it because I really think it can happen.
- 27:14SPEAKER_05: I'm not banking on it, but it's just it's just one of those things where the upset potential is there.
- 27:18SPEAKER_05: So I and I'm sure they think that too.
- 27:20SPEAKER_05: I bet Poke fans aren't thinking this is just a walk in the park either.
- 27:23SPEAKER_05: I mean, they're looking forward to Bedlam, obviously, but this is a big game as well.
- 27:27SPEAKER_03: Well, that could be bad news for them too.
- 27:29SPEAKER_03: If they're looking forward to Oklahoma, they don't really focus on this one as much.
- 27:32SPEAKER_03: Uh, but we'll see with that.
- 27:34SPEAKER_03: Like I said, I'm gonna go in with the same mentality.
- 27:36SPEAKER_03: I went in with the Iowa State game.
- 27:37SPEAKER_03: Hey, you know, if Donovan Smith can pull it off, man, fantastic.
- 27:41SPEAKER_03: You know, if we play good, I just want us to stay in it and stay, you know, give us a good game.
- 27:47SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 27:47SPEAKER_03: Uh, because, you know, the like I said, these guys are bowl eligible.
- 27:50SPEAKER_03: I hope they don't get too high from that.
- 27:52SPEAKER_03: Uh, because you know, you never want that as a team, as a head coach.
- 27:56SPEAKER_03: But this is a really good team, man.
- 27:57SPEAKER_03: I'm not, I'm no in no way expecting us to beat Oklahoma State, but you know, it would be it would be pretty cool if we did.
- 28:05SPEAKER_03: Uh, but yeah, I you know, if they come out with the same mentality, the same drive that they did against Iowa State.
- 28:11SPEAKER_03: I think you know, we're gonna at least make it a tight one.
- 28:13SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I don't think these guys are taking anything for granted.
- 28:16SPEAKER_05: I don't think they think they're better than they are at all.
- 28:18SPEAKER_05: So it's they they know everything, nothing's given yet to earn everything.
- 28:21SPEAKER_05: So I'm definitely looking forward to that pump jack mentality against Oklahoma State this weekend.
- 28:25SPEAKER_05: So let's go get it, guys.
- 28:26SPEAKER_05: Let's see Jonathan Garabay do yet another buzzer beater if we have to.
- 28:30SPEAKER_05: So let's let's go.
- 28:31SPEAKER_05: I'm at my gunnies fighting every way he can to block kicks at practice this week.
- 28:35SPEAKER_03: So no doubt.
- 28:37SPEAKER_03: I think I think Sonny Cumby might be going for some of those field goals on fourth down this week.
- 28:43SPEAKER_03: Maybe you should pull a Matt Wells kicking it on second down.
- 28:46SPEAKER_03: Hey, you know, hey, if you're well, we've realized now that if you're within 62 yards, just go ahead and kick it.
- 28:52SPEAKER_03: Just go ahead and go for it, get some points on the board for old Johnny.
- 28:56SPEAKER_03: Uh, but but no, that's it.
- 28:59SPEAKER_03: I mean, yeah, like we said, show out if you can to the Oklahoma State game, support these guys through their last now three games of the season.
- 29:05SPEAKER_03: We are going bowling.
- 29:07SPEAKER_03: That's so cool, man.
- 29:08SPEAKER_05: Cannot wait to see we play.
- 29:10SPEAKER_03: First time since 2017.
- 29:11SPEAKER_03: I mean, honestly, eight wins is still on the board.
- 29:16SPEAKER_03: It's not likely, but that is what I projected for this team was eight and four.
- 29:21SPEAKER_03: And hey, I don't know.
- 29:23SPEAKER_03: I'm not saying it's gonna happen, but I'm just saying it's still possible.
- 29:26SPEAKER_05: Hey, I I'm I'm actually looking at this this season pretty well right now.
- 29:29SPEAKER_05: I'm looking at it with pretty happy eyes.
- 29:31SPEAKER_05: I'm not gonna lie.
- 29:32SPEAKER_05: You know, we we we got bull eligible against all odds.
- 29:35SPEAKER_05: So I'm looking at this as a pretty satisfactory season so far.
- 29:38SPEAKER_03: But we've just we've just had the perfect weekend.
- 29:41SPEAKER_03: We had a Texas Tech win, we had an AM loss, we had UT losing in both basketball and football, including a loss.
- 29:47SPEAKER_03: Yeah, can we can we please bring it out?
- 29:49SPEAKER_03: Let's talk about it.
- 29:50SPEAKER_05: Can we can can we please talk about how Kansas just beat uh Texas in overtime?
- 29:54SPEAKER_05: Is it's is that something we could talk about?
- 29:56SPEAKER_05: Is that is that allowed?
- 29:57SPEAKER_03: No, that's something we can definitely talk about.
- 29:59SPEAKER_03: Uh five straight losses.
- 30:00SPEAKER_05: Five straight, it's the first time in like 40 years.
- 30:03SPEAKER_03: It's uh one and eight uh going into Austin have never beat UT in Austin.
- 30:09SPEAKER_03: Uh, and then they go and put up 57 points on them.
- 30:14SPEAKER_03: That team is an absolute dumpster fire right now, and I could not be happier.
- 30:20SPEAKER_05: The the Kansas Jayhawks just won their first road Big 12 game in over a decade against the Texas Longhorns, the most well-funded team in the country, and they just walk in there and remind them that they're the only team in the Big 12 they've beaten twice in the past five years.
- 30:38SPEAKER_05: So Kansas Jayhawks, do they own the UT Longhorns?
- 30:42SPEAKER_03: Is that I think I think everybody owns the UT Longhorns.
- 30:46SPEAKER_03: If you replay our game, we would absolutely 100% beat this team.
- 30:49SPEAKER_03: If Joey Maguire or Sonny Cumby is head coach, we would beat this team.
- 30:52SPEAKER_03: So you know, talk about uh the Matt Wells era is behind us now.
- 30:56SPEAKER_03: We can talk all the mess we want.
- 30:58SPEAKER_05: I I very proud of the J that the our fellow Big 12, our fellow hateful eights, giving them a good SEC, SEC, SEC.
- 31:05SPEAKER_05: You can even hear it in the away crowd, you know.
- 31:07SPEAKER_03: That's and I bet the Kansas away crowd.
- 31:12SPEAKER_05: Yeah, they like I'm just I'm sure that you can't you to the Texas fans were that quiet, and the the the small tingent of Kansas fans that were there really made themselves heard.
- 31:23SPEAKER_05: It's hilarious.
- 31:24SPEAKER_05: I love it.
- 31:25SPEAKER_05: Props to the Baylor fans doing it as well against OU.
- 31:28SPEAKER_05: I mean, you love to see it.
- 31:29SPEAKER_05: You love to see it.
- 31:30SPEAKER_03: It was fantastic, just a great weekend, unbelievable weekend, you know.
- 31:34SPEAKER_03: Uh yeah, just just great.
- 31:37SPEAKER_03: So I don't know.
- 31:38SPEAKER_05: Was that the only uh before we move on?
- 31:40SPEAKER_05: I mean, I'm I I apologize, but was that only was that the only Texas Longhorn team that lost this past weekend?
- 31:46SPEAKER_05: Was that the only one?
- 31:47SPEAKER_03: No, it wasn't.
- 31:48SPEAKER_03: Uh no, really, no, they had another team lose, and uh not I wouldn't really say lose isn't the right word.
- 31:54SPEAKER_03: Um got creamed uh is the right word by Gonzaga.
- 31:59SPEAKER_03: Uh old uh country club Chris uh decides, you know, hey, this is what college basketball is all about.
- 32:05SPEAKER_03: You know, the best teams in the nation playing true road games, uh, to lose by a ton and have Drew Timmy score 37 points on my head.
- 32:16SPEAKER_03: Uh, you know, just wonderful stuff.
- 32:18SPEAKER_03: Uh again, Gonzaga really showed uh Old Beard that Texas may be a little overhyped by a certain few uh media members.
- 32:27SPEAKER_05: Look, CCC let us know before the game that no matter the outcome, it's a it's a win for Texas.
- 32:32SPEAKER_05: So I'm glad they still got no matter what, I'm glad he gave that up, dude.
- 32:37SPEAKER_03: You know, he's just a good guy out here saying, you know, we're gonna learn a lot, you know.
- 32:42SPEAKER_03: That's that's the most important thing.
- 32:43SPEAKER_03: Wins and losses, they don't care in my hands.
- 32:46SPEAKER_05: They learned that they're once again the most overrated brand that could possibly exist in the college realm.
- 32:52SPEAKER_05: And is there something you can hate to see more or is is or not?
- 32:57SPEAKER_05: I I can't I can't tell.
- 32:58SPEAKER_03: You hate to see it.
- 33:00SPEAKER_03: Oh, wait, no, you love you love to see it.
- 33:02SPEAKER_03: You love to see all of uh UT has been absolutely crapped on by everybody in the world uh this past week, and it hasn't been there's not a better week in the world.
- 33:11SPEAKER_03: There really isn't uh when it comes to sports.
- 33:14SPEAKER_05: Absolutely, but hey, they make a lot of money, so they they truly are our betters.
- 33:18SPEAKER_05: So that's true, that's true.
- 33:19SPEAKER_03: They do they carrying this dang conference, man.
- 33:22SPEAKER_03: This this group of peasants we deserve this, we deserve this, so do, man.
- 33:31SPEAKER_05: All right, well, that's enough pooping on other teams.
- 33:33SPEAKER_05: This is a Texas Tech podcast.
- 33:35SPEAKER_05: We're not petty, we just proved that we're not petty for the last five minutes.
- 33:38SPEAKER_04: So all right, man.
- 33:41SPEAKER_05: So let's get into it then, dude.
- 33:43SPEAKER_05: I mean, it is do you want to move on?
- 33:45SPEAKER_05: Do we want to talk about what the people in Ryan Mainville got on here to hear about?
- 33:50SPEAKER_03: Yeah, let's uh let's talk some basketball because we're three games in, we're three and oh.
- 33:54SPEAKER_03: Uh, we look pretty dang good.
- 33:56SPEAKER_03: Uh, you know, against lower competition, granted, you know, we played Grambling State, uh, Prairieville, Prairie View, AM, and uh who uh Florida, it's North Florida.
- 34:07SPEAKER_03: So, you know, we haven't played stiff competition.
- 34:10SPEAKER_05: You still through like every one of those names.
- 34:12SPEAKER_03: I know.
- 34:14SPEAKER_03: There's small schools that I never even think about, but not our Grambling Gramblers, not our Gramblers.
- 34:21SPEAKER_03: I I got Grambling, right?
- 34:22SPEAKER_03: I got Grambling right.
- 34:24SPEAKER_03: Uh, you know, big time Gramblers over here.
- 34:26SPEAKER_03: But no, our team looks good.
- 34:27SPEAKER_03: That's the most important thing.
- 34:28SPEAKER_03: You're supposed to crush these uh early season opponents.
- 34:31SPEAKER_03: You're supposed to, this is where you get to mesh together.
- 34:34SPEAKER_03: And we've already seen from game one to game three that we've improved on the defensive end.
- 34:38SPEAKER_03: Uh, we held Prairie View to a really, really poor second half, uh, shooting-wise, finally getting that together a little bit.
- 34:45SPEAKER_03: Prairie View was playing their third game in three nights against all really good opponents.
- 34:51SPEAKER_03: Well, Oklahoma State to be seen, they've already lost Oakland.
- 34:54SPEAKER_03: But uh, I just had some thoughts on this team.
- 34:56SPEAKER_03: If you are uh ready for those, uh no, I'm not.
- 34:59SPEAKER_05: Uh let's move on to the next segment.
- 35:04SPEAKER_03: No, let's just skip it.
- 35:08SPEAKER_03: No, uh, let's start with Bryson Williams because he's been unbelievable.
- 35:11SPEAKER_03: He's been uh more than advertised.
- 35:13SPEAKER_03: Uh bona fide score down low.
- 35:15SPEAKER_03: I mean, if he's one-on-one with somebody, he's probably gonna win that battle.
- 35:19SPEAKER_03: Um uh with the other front court guys, Kevin O'Banner's shot looks fantastic.
- 35:24SPEAKER_03: Uh, he's he had one poor shooting game, but other than that, man, he's gonna be he's just as deadly from three-point range as we thought going in.
- 35:32SPEAKER_03: Uh, and then I love Marcus Santos Silva off the bench, man.
- 35:35SPEAKER_03: He's gonna abuse some of these second string big guys.
- 35:37SPEAKER_03: He's still an absolutely elite rebounder.
- 35:40SPEAKER_03: Uh, the whole rebounding from this whole entire team has been unbelievable.
- 35:45SPEAKER_03: I mean, we doubled up Prairie View last night um in terms of boards, and uh, we're just gonna be a problem for everybody.
- 35:51SPEAKER_05: Yeah, thank god that we've uh doubled up on the uh the boards here because last season it was a real problem.
- 35:56SPEAKER_05: You know, it was it was really hard to get possession back because of that, and it affected our offense, and it that's something that we're already seeing improve, partly because of those rebounds.
- 36:04SPEAKER_05: Our offense is night and day.
- 36:06SPEAKER_05: This is like a whole nother team on that side of the ball, but we we are lighting up the scoreboard.
- 36:11SPEAKER_05: You know, defense still has a bit to to fall back in, you know, it still needs to you know be built up, but man, this offense is an issue.
- 36:18SPEAKER_05: Like we might be one of the highest scoring teams in this conference.
- 36:22SPEAKER_03: Yeah, no doubt.
- 36:22SPEAKER_03: I mean, it's non-stop.
- 36:24SPEAKER_03: They they advertised it as it was gonna be faster and it was gonna get out on the break a lot, and we're gonna move.
- 36:30SPEAKER_03: And you know, we struggled a little bit uh when we went against the zone of Grambling for a while there, but we figured it out, uh, you know, in the second half, and uh we'll keep on working.
- 36:40SPEAKER_03: We still have like I think three or four more cupcakes before we play a true good opponent in Providence.
- 36:45SPEAKER_03: So who's also three and oh on the year, by the way.
- 36:48SPEAKER_03: But um man, I love Davion Warren.
- 36:50SPEAKER_03: This guy might be my favorite player to watch all season.
- 36:53SPEAKER_03: Uh, that dude is awesome on so many different ends and the defense that he's shown, uh, getting in, passing lane, stealing the ball, drawing charges.
- 37:02SPEAKER_03: He leads, I think the team in charge is drawn.
- 37:05SPEAKER_03: Uh, and then on the offensive end, he's he's freaking nuts.
- 37:08SPEAKER_03: He can score from everywhere.
- 37:09SPEAKER_03: He knocked down, I think, three, three pointers last night.
- 37:12SPEAKER_03: Uh, he can drive in, he can finish on the break, he can slam it over everybody.
- 37:16SPEAKER_03: I mean, uh, Davion Warren is gonna be my favorite player to watch this year.
- 37:20SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I was about to say you you've been raving about this guy every single game, but you you text about him like every five minutes during a game.
- 37:26SPEAKER_05: So it's and it's it's absolutely obvious why.
- 37:29SPEAKER_05: And it's crazy to see how quickly these transfers have established themselves as absolute contributors, absolute workhorses on this team.
- 37:37SPEAKER_05: So it's it's good to see them immediately take off in this new Mark Adams system.
- 37:42SPEAKER_05: And dude, it's just it feels like we're not skipping a beat, you know, and it's it's pretty fun to see these new faces because we already love these new faces, so you know, I mean, we loved our past our past teams, but man, this is just an exciting team to watch because it's just so high flying, and where the points just go straight up, and yeah, there's there's a lot of hope riding on the season all automatically, you know.
- 38:04SPEAKER_05: It's just it's great, it's so much fun.
- 38:06SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and I mean, one of the biggest concerns was shooting going into this year.
- 38:10SPEAKER_03: That may still be the case in certain.
- 38:12SPEAKER_03: You know, we have some of these guys that are shooting well in O'Banner, uh and Davion Warren, but K Mac hasn't been able to find a shot early on.
- 38:20SPEAKER_03: Um, you know, Malik Wilson isn't a shooter by any means.
- 38:22SPEAKER_03: Uh Cerrar Calhoun, we were told, was supposed to be a pretty good three-point shooter.
- 38:26SPEAKER_03: He hasn't hit a lot.
- 38:27SPEAKER_03: Uh Buzo has struggled early on.
- 38:30SPEAKER_03: So, you know, these guys got to get once they get you know some more games under their belt, I'm sure those shots will start falling.
- 38:36SPEAKER_03: Uh, but yeah, that that may be a concern moving forward.
- 38:39SPEAKER_03: But uh, there's so many things that these other guys are doing that I did not, I mean, Malik Wilson and Adonis Arms in particular have been complete surprises.
- 38:46SPEAKER_03: Uh, Malik Wilson in particular, well, I guess them both in particular, but Malik Wilson has 15 assists and only one turnover so far through three games.
- 38:54SPEAKER_03: I mean, he is a pass first guy, he looks for other guys to score right here.
- 38:58SPEAKER_03: Uh, and he's great in transition.
- 39:00SPEAKER_03: He can dribble the ball.
- 39:01SPEAKER_03: He's had some crazy dunks so far.
- 39:03SPEAKER_03: Um, I'm really impressed by him, and I'm really impressed by Adonis Arms.
- 39:07SPEAKER_03: Uh, this is a guy going into the year that I did not think was gonna find a lot of minutes on this team.
- 39:12SPEAKER_03: And he was the first guy off the bench in the first game of the season, and he has kept that same role.
- 39:17SPEAKER_03: Uh, he's coming in, the jump shot looks good.
- 39:19SPEAKER_03: He does a little bit of everything in terms of rebounding, uh, getting in passing lane, stealing the ball, finishing in transitions.
- 39:25SPEAKER_03: Uh, dude's an athletic freak, man.
- 39:27SPEAKER_03: He almost ended a man's career last night.
- 39:30SPEAKER_03: Uh just yeah, just missed on that dunk, but he's been a really nice surprise.
- 39:35SPEAKER_05: Yeah, it's been really cool to see these new faces really get some minutes with uh Terrence Shannon Jr.
- 39:39SPEAKER_05: being out for the the temporary time because of the very consistent NTAA.
- 39:43SPEAKER_05: Um, yeah, so it's really great to see these guys just grab that torch and run with it because, like you said before the season, that you know, we weren't sure how much these guys would see the floor or how much they would really break out uh into the players we need them to be.
- 39:54SPEAKER_05: But it turns out some of these guys are bringing that even more.
- 39:57SPEAKER_05: So it's great to see.
- 39:59SPEAKER_05: But I I would be lying to say if I'm not looking forward to seeing Junior make his comeback, because you know that guy's gonna be easily one of the best players on the team.
- 40:06SPEAKER_05: So there's just this team isn't even its final form, and it's showing out to be a great one so far.
- 40:12SPEAKER_03: Hey, you know what could also be good having a uh preseason all big 12 caliber player added to this team.
- 40:19SPEAKER_03: That would be that would be pretty sweet.
- 40:21SPEAKER_03: Uh that would help so much free TJ, hashtag free TJ.
- 40:26SPEAKER_03: Let's get him on the floor in CAA.
- 40:28SPEAKER_03: Don't mess this one up, please.
- 40:30SPEAKER_03: But uh, you know, it is good to get these other guys some minutes early on, uh, you know, especially in these games.
- 40:35SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and with TJ on the floor, you know, Adonis Arms wouldn't have seen the floor as much, Buzo wouldn't have seen the floor as much.
- 40:40SPEAKER_03: And so getting these guys some early season reps, KJ Allen getting on the floor, which I didn't don't you know.
- 40:45SPEAKER_03: And I still think KJ's gonna kind of fall on the rotation a little bit as the season progresses, just because you know, he's still young, um, you know, he's kind of in a weird position, and we just have so many good players, you know, at his spot right now.
- 40:56SPEAKER_03: You know, are you gonna take minutes away from Bryson Williams?
- 40:59SPEAKER_03: I don't think so.
- 41:00SPEAKER_03: Like probably, you know, that guy has been utterly fantastic, everything as advertised.
- 41:05SPEAKER_03: So uh there's a lot of good going on with this basketball program.
- 41:08SPEAKER_03: I'm excited to see a big time, you know, good opponent.
- 41:11SPEAKER_03: Uh, what we have next is we're going to South Padre and we're playing uh Incarnate Word, San Antonio's finest.
- 41:16SPEAKER_03: So shouts out.
- 41:17SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 41:18SPEAKER_05: Uh, but uh yeah, I mean go Aaron Morris.
- 41:21SPEAKER_05: I mean, quick quick side note, you know, Texas Tech uh former uh offensive coordinator, winningest coach in Incarnate Word history.
- 41:27SPEAKER_05: You know, I just had to drop that little side note, see that that legacy move on in San Antonio's finest.
- 41:32SPEAKER_05: So but yeah, seemingly changing that program around, dude.
- 41:34SPEAKER_05: For sure.
- 41:35SPEAKER_05: And they're moving on to the uh, I believe they're moving to the WAC, which is a big FCS conference now.
- 41:39SPEAKER_05: So so good for them.
- 41:41SPEAKER_05: All right, back to work here.
- 41:42SPEAKER_05: Okay, back to South Padre.
- 41:44SPEAKER_05: And I I think I'm gonna grab a ticket and head on down.
- 41:46SPEAKER_05: So I just uh head down to the beach.
- 41:49SPEAKER_05: Just kidding, no, but I would love to.
- 41:50SPEAKER_03: Oh, that would be great.
- 41:51SPEAKER_05: I would love to miss that play.
- 41:53SPEAKER_03: That's the best beach in Texas, no doubt.
- 41:54SPEAKER_03: Oh, yeah, easily, yeah, easy peasy.
- 41:57SPEAKER_03: But um, no, yeah.
- 41:58SPEAKER_03: I mean, we have three more warm-up games, I believe, until we play Providence.
- 42:01SPEAKER_03: So, you know, it's gonna be a lot of this, uh, probably, you know, a lot of destroying these uh, you know, smaller, lower level teams.
- 42:08SPEAKER_03: Yeah, uh, but we just gotta take care of business and get our defensive schemes going.
- 42:12SPEAKER_03: Uh, you know, get guys more comfortable with each other, and that's what these games are all about.
- 42:15SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I mean, things really kick up in a few games.
- 42:17SPEAKER_05: We only have three more tune-up ones before things start getting pretty real because right after Providence, you get Tennessee.
- 42:22SPEAKER_05: So it's things are about to kick up.
- 42:24SPEAKER_05: Gonzaga.
- 42:26SPEAKER_03: Yeah, we played the number one team in the country here.
- 42:29SPEAKER_05: The good thing about Gonzaga is no matter what we win.
- 42:32SPEAKER_05: So whether we win or lose, it's a win.
- 42:34SPEAKER_05: So just yeah, that's true.
- 42:35SPEAKER_03: The the Trump Crispy mentality for sure.
- 42:42SPEAKER_03: Okay, let's move on uh to the talk and tech breakdown.
- 42:46SPEAKER_03: Uh, we're you know, this is the segment where we talk about some of the other sports around campus, but we are gonna stick with basketball and football right now, just in terms of commits.
- 42:55SPEAKER_03: Uh, we're getting some guys on this team.
- 42:57SPEAKER_03: Joey McGuire has been at work.
- 42:59SPEAKER_03: Uh Mark Adams is still at work.
- 43:01SPEAKER_03: Uh, let's talk about the one basketball guy we have gotten, and that is Pop Isaac's four-star true point guard out of Nevada.
- 43:09SPEAKER_03: Um, you know, he decommitted.
- 43:11SPEAKER_03: He committed originally to Mark Adams and then decommitted to reopened his recruitment.
- 43:17SPEAKER_03: Uh, I I, you know, there were rumors that it was NIL related.
- 43:21SPEAKER_03: Uh, you know, heard some from some other schools and then visited uh the Grambling State game, I believe, the Texas Tech Grambling State game, and then decided to recommit.
- 43:31SPEAKER_03: And I believe he's signing today uh to play for Texas Tech and Mark Adams.
- 43:35SPEAKER_03: So this is such a huge uh commit for us.
- 43:37SPEAKER_03: He's a true point guard, he's a great shooter.
- 43:39SPEAKER_03: Um he's really a guy that we haven't had uh a player like him probably since like Keenan Evans, uh, you know, in terms of you know floor general, uh, you know, knows the passing lanes, uh, can shoot the lights out of the ball.
- 43:54SPEAKER_03: Uh so I think he's gonna be a fantastic player and a guy that we'll see real minutes come next season.
- 44:00SPEAKER_05: I really wish we could use them this season, but it's it's great to have a W like that back, you know.
- 44:04SPEAKER_05: Probably the biggest recruit of uh Mark Adams so far.
- 44:06SPEAKER_05: So really excited to see him hit the floor next season.
- 44:09SPEAKER_05: But we had obviously we have this season to look forward to anyway.
- 44:11SPEAKER_05: But man, that's great news because it just shows great future recruiting-wise that this team can do.
- 44:16SPEAKER_05: Like, we're not we're not slowing down on that in that market, and we even had the the five-star visitor game last uh last night.
- 44:21SPEAKER_05: So, dude, we're we're full steam ahead with going big.
- 44:25SPEAKER_05: So love it.
- 44:26SPEAKER_03: We're still working, so hopefully, we can nab a few more big time recruits for next year and the years following.
- 44:32SPEAKER_03: So we did, however, uh the real recruiting news.
- 44:35SPEAKER_03: I mean, Pop Isaac is fantastic, he's an unbelievable get uh for tech basketball, but tech football and Joey Maguire have been on an absolute tear uh in West Texas and just in general.
- 44:47SPEAKER_03: I mean, we have what the number 12 recruiting class in 2023 in all of college football right now.
- 44:53SPEAKER_03: Uh, you know, that's gonna it's early.
- 44:56SPEAKER_03: We understand that, but uh, you know, four four big time or no, five big time recruits uh now for Joey Maguire, yeah, uh getting uh four three stars and one four-star.
- 45:08SPEAKER_03: Um the three-star own lineman.
- 45:11SPEAKER_03: Uh, the only guy on the offensive end that that Maguire has gotten is the uh offensive lineman Caden Carr, older brother, played at Texas Tech previously.
- 45:19SPEAKER_03: So that's a nice get keeping it in the legacy.
- 45:22SPEAKER_03: Amarillo kid.
- 45:23SPEAKER_03: Amarillo kid, gotta love West Texas.
- 45:25SPEAKER_03: Uh, you know, Joey Maguire is really building a fence around West Texas, and uh, you know, he's trying to make Texas Tech back to what it should be, which is West Texas University.
- 45:35SPEAKER_05: For sure.
- 45:36SPEAKER_05: Recruit the state of West Texas, as Rob Rowe would say.
- 45:39SPEAKER_03: Yeah, absolutely.
- 45:40SPEAKER_03: So uh the biggest commit was four-star linebacker Isaiah Crawford from Post, uh, six foot four.
- 45:46SPEAKER_03: Uh flipped, he was originally committed to Baylor, and then hey, guess what?
- 45:50SPEAKER_03: We get the guy from Baylor that recruited him.
- 45:53SPEAKER_03: Oh, sorry, Baylor.
- 45:54SPEAKER_03: No, we're gonna take him.
- 45:56SPEAKER_03: We're gonna take this guy who if there's a stud coming out of post, he better be going to Texas.
- 46:02SPEAKER_05: There's zero excuse that a baller from post doesn't go to tech.
- 46:07SPEAKER_05: None.
- 46:08SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that's it.
- 46:08SPEAKER_03: That's what shows you that Matt Wells just wasn't doing it on the recruiting.
- 46:13SPEAKER_03: How do you lose a guy from post Texas that is this good?
- 46:17SPEAKER_05: Seriously, man.
- 46:18SPEAKER_05: Like that it's just shows how unexcusable that Matt Wells was dropping the the high school recruitment.
- 46:23SPEAKER_05: You'll swing find the transfer portal.
- 46:24SPEAKER_05: And we're talking we're talking about prepot how much we're gonna miss Colin Schooler as he graduates.
- 46:29SPEAKER_05: But dude, if if you're not recruiting high school, you can't build a lasting winner.
- 46:33SPEAKER_05: So, because you need the young guys that stay in the program for four years.
- 46:36SPEAKER_05: Hey, dude, it's not just Joey Maguire, it's also James Blanchard, the guy he brought in with him.
- 46:40SPEAKER_05: This guy is a winner.
- 46:42SPEAKER_05: This guy recruits his tail off.
- 46:44SPEAKER_05: He's a huge reason why Baylor was winning so many games with their recruits.
- 46:47SPEAKER_05: I mean, he's a former NFL scout.
- 46:49SPEAKER_05: This guy's the man.
- 46:51SPEAKER_05: Like, I've been following his Twitter so closely, I have my notifications on.
- 46:54SPEAKER_05: This guy is amazing.
- 46:55SPEAKER_05: Like with the staff Joey Maguire is gonna build is gonna be impressive.
- 46:58SPEAKER_05: And that the I just don't think Texas Tech has seen high school recruiting like this in a long, long time.
- 47:03SPEAKER_03: He doesn't even have an OC or a DC yet.
- 47:06SPEAKER_03: I mean, yeah, and he's getting these guys to come to West Texas, come to Texas Tech, or stay in West Texas, I should say, for a lot of these guys.
- 47:13SPEAKER_03: Uh, just to nail off the last three, uh, three-star cornerback Jalen Peoples had offers from Baylor, Iowa, Tennessee, Oklahoma State, uh, defensive lineman Harvey Dyson.
- 47:24SPEAKER_03: Uh, he had offers, I believe, from Kansas State, SMU, those type of schools.
- 47:28SPEAKER_03: And then uh three-star defensive tackle, Sincere Massey, uh, who was an Arizona State commit.
- 47:33SPEAKER_03: Uh, and he flipped to Texas Tech.
- 47:35SPEAKER_03: He also was offered by schools like LSU and USC.
- 47:39SPEAKER_03: So, you know, this is a very uh sought-out recruit.
- 47:42SPEAKER_03: Um, and and just all these guys are gonna be, you know, big time impacts on the Texas Tech defensive side of the ball.
- 47:49SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I mean, voices are chirping that Sincere's like the most underrated defensive player in Texas right now.
- 47:54SPEAKER_05: So I we're looking at some studs coming in from the high school level.
- 47:58SPEAKER_05: So it looks like Cedar Hill is gonna be a Texas Tech school, so as it should be.
- 48:03SPEAKER_05: But uh man, it's I'm actually excited about recruiting.
- 48:06SPEAKER_05: I don't think I've ever been this excited about recruiting as a Texas Tech fan ever.
- 48:09SPEAKER_05: You know, every once in a while, you know, Cliff would be like getting this, getting a big quarterback that we might inevitably lose.
- 48:15SPEAKER_05: And um, it just I've never seen it like this.
- 48:18SPEAKER_05: Just the energy behind it is just something that hasn't been experienced by at least me or you.
- 48:22SPEAKER_05: So it's just it's a fun time to be a tech football fan.
- 48:25SPEAKER_03: Yeah, no doubt.
- 48:26SPEAKER_03: I mean, it's like the transfer portal in in uh basketball, you know, when when Adams was getting Bryson Williams and getting Kevin O'Banner, and that that's the last time, you know.
- 48:34SPEAKER_03: And I mean, I know that wasn't very long ago, but uh, you know, that you feel the same type of energy there.
- 48:39SPEAKER_03: You're like, okay, we're getting some dudes here to come to Texas Tech.
- 48:42SPEAKER_03: This is gonna be awesome, and you can really feel the entire program shifting, uh, you know, uh, from what we've previously thought of Texas Tech football to now looking towards a much, much better Texas Tech football in the future.
- 48:57SPEAKER_03: So that man, this is it's really exciting.
- 48:59SPEAKER_05: Yeah, and it shows the the foresight that Kirby Hoka and our boosters had that you know, the landscape of college football is about to go through an astronomical shift.
- 49:08SPEAKER_05: And Texas Tech has an opportunity to really establish itself as a kingpin in this new Big 12, and that's a big deal.
- 49:13SPEAKER_05: And don't listen to what anyone else says.
- 49:15SPEAKER_05: You T know you can go get lost in the white new noise of the SEC, but we can be over here establishing ourselves like a Clemson in the ACC.
- 49:22SPEAKER_05: Obviously, I'm not trying to, you know, go that big, but you get what I'm saying, or like a USC.
- 49:26SPEAKER_03: I'd like to go that big.
- 49:28SPEAKER_05: Oh, I know I understand that, but I'm just you know, I'm just not trying to, you know, make make myself self sound too crazy.
- 49:33SPEAKER_05: No, I'm just you just you can really establish yourself as a real program, uh, I mean a real leader of a program and in a great conference.
- 49:39SPEAKER_05: So I'm really excited about it, man.
- 49:41SPEAKER_03: Yeah, absolutely.
- 49:42SPEAKER_03: So let's move on to soccer.
- 49:45SPEAKER_03: Unfortunately, the season has ended for the ladies after losing to TCU in the Big 12 tournament.
- 49:50SPEAKER_03: They went 11, 6, and 3 overall.
- 49:52SPEAKER_03: So, you know, not a horrible record, just not enough to do it.
- 49:55SPEAKER_03: Uh, but Kirsten Davis, as amazing as she was, amazing uh uh, you know, Big 12 offensive player of the year.
- 50:01SPEAKER_03: So shouts out to her.
- 50:02SPEAKER_03: She's not going to be returning because she was a senior, so that's sad news.
- 50:05SPEAKER_03: But we wish her the best, uh, you know, in her professional career because she's gonna make it.
- 50:09SPEAKER_03: I mean, she's on the she already has, I think.
- 50:11SPEAKER_05: I think she's already been.
- 50:12SPEAKER_03: Oh, okay.
- 50:12SPEAKER_03: Well, then yeah.
- 50:13SPEAKER_03: So I mean, uh, you know, that this goes to what I know about soccer, but uh the good another, you know, looking forward the future.
- 50:19SPEAKER_03: Uh Coach Stone added nine recruits on signing day for soccer.
- 50:23SPEAKER_03: Yeah, including five from Colorado, three from Texas, and one from Georgia.
- 50:27SPEAKER_03: And there's some girls on here that are fantastic.
- 50:30SPEAKER_03: I mean, elite in their state of high school.
- 50:32SPEAKER_03: So uh we're we're gonna have a good team moving forward.
- 50:35SPEAKER_05: Yeah, Coach Stone's one of those guys they put all your faith in it.
- 50:37SPEAKER_05: He hasn't really let us down and he's got us some trophies.
- 50:40SPEAKER_05: So you just you just gotta let him keep those keys and keep rolling because he is taking his program to higher and higher heights each year.
- 50:45SPEAKER_05: It's awesome.
- 50:46SPEAKER_03: Yep, absolutely.
- 50:47SPEAKER_03: So moving on, volleyball, uh, dropping uh two straight matches to Kansas State.
- 50:52SPEAKER_03: But up next, we have a two-match series at West Virginia and then uh a two-match series in Lubbock versus the Longhorns to end off conference play.
- 51:01SPEAKER_03: So uh, you know, wish the ladies the best as their season dies down.
- 51:05SPEAKER_03: Uh, you know, keep rooting for them and everything like that.
- 51:07SPEAKER_03: Uh, but women's basketball, man, started up, you know, they've been great.
- 51:11SPEAKER_03: They started open the season with a 22-point win over southeastern Louisiana.
- 51:16SPEAKER_03: They won 67 to 45.
- 51:18SPEAKER_03: Uh Ella Tafiono, Tofiono, I believe is how you say your name.
- 51:22SPEAKER_03: Uh, 18 and 9 off the bench.
- 51:24SPEAKER_03: Uh, Taylor Thomas with a double-double, 15 and 10, and then Riley McKinney, who we just added in the offseason, added 15 more.
- 51:31SPEAKER_03: Uh, they have a game actually today against Weaver State.
- 51:34SPEAKER_03: So by the time you're listening to this podcast, you'll probably know uh the score on that one.
- 51:38SPEAKER_03: I would expect the Lady Raiders to pull it off.
- 51:40SPEAKER_03: Uh, and then uh a game against Lamar at home after that.
- 51:43SPEAKER_03: So shouts out Krista Gerlick and Co.
- 51:46SPEAKER_03: You know, let's get these dubs.
- 51:47SPEAKER_03: I think this Lady Raider program is gonna be pretty good this year.
- 51:50SPEAKER_05: Yeah, it looks like they're really making a turnaround, and there's a lot of energy in both basketball programs like right now.
- 51:55SPEAKER_05: It's a lot of fun to see them supporting a bunch each other too.
- 51:57SPEAKER_05: Like there's a lot of support from Krista, a lot of the support from Mark Adams for each other, and that's so much fun.
- 52:02SPEAKER_05: I mean, you play in the same building, you practice in the same building.
- 52:04SPEAKER_05: I'm sure you spend a lot of time together, and you can really see the energy bounce off each other.
- 52:08SPEAKER_05: It's it's a lot of fun to see.
- 52:10SPEAKER_03: No doubt, no doubt.
- 52:11SPEAKER_03: Support all of the programs on campus.
- 52:13SPEAKER_03: Uh, and I would be remiss to not shout out uh the most elite program on campus, and that is meat judging.
- 52:23SPEAKER_03: Uh, Texas Tech Meat Judging is a dynasty of all dynasties, um, just won their third straight national championship and their 16th in program history.
- 52:34SPEAKER_03: Uh, you know, I people have said it before, but it's just unreal what this meat judging program has done.
- 52:42SPEAKER_05: Nick Saban takes notes from this meat judging dynasty.
- 52:45SPEAKER_05: I heard he was there.
- 52:46SPEAKER_03: I heard he was there at the championship.
- 52:48SPEAKER_05: Every chance he gets to go to Lubbock and talk to that meat judging team and just watch them for a few days, he did he does.
- 52:54SPEAKER_05: But no, seriously, this the dynasty in this program is amazing and it's really competitive, it's a big deal.
- 53:00SPEAKER_05: So it's it's awesome to see.
- 53:01SPEAKER_05: And I think some are saying that Texas Tech is the true ag school of Texas.
- 53:06SPEAKER_05: Some most are saying some very serious people are saying that.
- 53:09SPEAKER_03: I've heard that, I've heard that from a lot of people that you've probably hearing them from, but uh, yeah, man, seriously, me judging unbelievable.
- 53:16SPEAKER_03: I mean, it seems like every few months we claim another one.
- 53:19SPEAKER_03: So uh, you know, shouts out me judging, gotta do it.
- 53:23SPEAKER_03: We've got to the point where if we don't win the natty, we're like, what are we doing?
- 53:26SPEAKER_03: What's going on?
- 53:27SPEAKER_03: Who's end of the dynasty?
- 53:29SPEAKER_03: What is happening?
- 53:32SPEAKER_03: Is Texas Tech done?
- 53:33SPEAKER_03: Is tech no, yeah.
- 53:35SPEAKER_03: Texas Tech is definitely not done when it comes to me judging.
- 53:38SPEAKER_03: We get the elite of elite here, uh in Lubbock.
- 53:41SPEAKER_05: Hey, and we just got our first natty in horse judging as well.
- 53:44SPEAKER_03: So if there's judging to be done, consider us national champions.
- 53:49SPEAKER_03: If there's judging for meat or for animals, we are winning.
- 53:54SPEAKER_03: Okay, we're gonna win that.
- 53:56SPEAKER_05: Let's step up wool judging now.
- 53:58SPEAKER_05: It's your turn.
- 53:58SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I think they won one not too long ago, too.
- 54:01SPEAKER_03: Was it a they won a natty?
- 54:02SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I think so.
- 54:03SPEAKER_03: I don't know.
- 54:03SPEAKER_03: Oh my god.
- 54:05SPEAKER_03: Like I said, there's something I know.
- 54:06SPEAKER_03: Something yeah, something happened with wool judging that I think I think rambling raiders actually had somebody.
- 54:11SPEAKER_05: They did, they did at least their best episode because you just you bring all this elite person, this elite athlete of judging to get out there and just and go to on a on a program like the Rambling Raiders.
- 54:24SPEAKER_05: So they just love it.
- 54:25SPEAKER_05: But let's keep judging, let's keep getting those natties.
- 54:28SPEAKER_03: Yeah, well, that's gonna do it for the talking tech breakdown.
- 54:31SPEAKER_03: Um, I did have a shout-out before we get to song of the week, and that is to uh all of y'all for listening to uh talking tech to this podcast.
- 54:40SPEAKER_03: We have now reached a thousand followers on Twitter.
- 54:42SPEAKER_03: Uh, it's a milestone that I truly did not see us getting to.
- 54:46SPEAKER_03: Uh when we start this podcast, uh, you know, uh we we want to send a sincere thank you to everybody for listening uh to the podcast and uh you know just telling your friends and your family and rating and subscribing and reviewing and everything like that.
- 55:00SPEAKER_03: You know, we really do appreciate it.
- 55:02SPEAKER_03: Uh, and we're gonna keep this thing going, man.
- 55:04SPEAKER_05: Absolutely, dude.
- 55:05SPEAKER_05: It's like you said, you I didn't see it getting this far, and I've just been having so much fun with it.
- 55:09SPEAKER_05: And we're not gonna stop until we stop having fun with it.
- 55:12SPEAKER_05: So I don't think that's gonna happen anytime soon.
- 55:13SPEAKER_05: So thank y'all so much for interacting with us on Twitter.
- 55:16SPEAKER_05: That's like half the fun.
- 55:17SPEAKER_05: So let's let's keep going, y'all.
- 55:19SPEAKER_03: All all it took was us talking about uh the New Zealand flightless parrot cockkapoo uh to get to that thousand followers.
- 55:26SPEAKER_03: So shouts out to you uh for bringing that to the table, man.
- 55:30SPEAKER_03: I appreciate that.
- 55:31SPEAKER_05: Yeah, they I I had to bring up the insult to God and it just just just see what everyone had to say about it because why can't it fly?
- 55:38SPEAKER_05: I just I get down on my knees every night and beg the glord above and ask why can't the cockoo fly?
- 55:45SPEAKER_05: He resembles a flying bird in every conceivable way, and it just it upset and then I cry to sleep.
- 55:51SPEAKER_03: I have to stop you.
- 55:52SPEAKER_03: I know you could go on a tangent about that.
- 55:55SPEAKER_03: Thank you, thank you.
- 55:56SPEAKER_03: I don't want to break down there.
- 55:58SPEAKER_03: We need to we need to do uh song of the week.
- 56:00SPEAKER_03: Uh, we're doing a theme for song of the week.
- 56:03SPEAKER_03: Um, you know, everybody's talking about it.
- 56:06SPEAKER_03: The new uh Taylor's version of Red just popped, Taylor Swift, uh redoing a lot of her songs, adding some uh from the vault, apparently.
- 56:15SPEAKER_03: Uh, I haven't listened to a lot of it, I'm gonna be honest with you.
- 56:18SPEAKER_03: Uh, but both your fiance and my fiance are massive Swifties.
- 56:23SPEAKER_03: Uh, you know, they were listening to nothing but Taylor Swift this entire weekend, uh, and you know, just shitting on Jig Gyllenhaal all weekend uh because he is uh scum and trash and the worst thing in the world.
- 56:36SPEAKER_03: Uh so we're each gonna we each asked uh our fiancés what song from the Red album we should give to the listeners um to go listen to in particular.
- 56:46SPEAKER_03: So, what did uh your fiance Annie, what did she give?
- 56:50SPEAKER_03: What is her recommendation and her song of the week from Red?
- 56:53SPEAKER_05: Annie busted out a deep track, one that's never brought up, not a single, not one that's talked about much at all.
- 56:58SPEAKER_05: And it's the last time, the last time is her favorite red track.
- 57:04SPEAKER_04: This is the last seminal.
- 57:09SPEAKER_04: You break my heart and the coming.
- 57:17SPEAKER_03: Okay, all right.
- 57:19SPEAKER_05: And Red's like our favorite Taylor Swift album, so I think that probably puts it really high up on our list and general swifty songs.
- 57:24SPEAKER_03: Very nice, gotta love it.
- 57:26SPEAKER_03: Uh, I haven't listened to that one.
- 57:27SPEAKER_03: I've listened to three, I think, total songs, including uh the one that everybody's talking about, which is all too well, uh, the 10-minute version.
- 57:35SPEAKER_03: I've I don't know how many times I've listened to that in the last week.
- 57:39SPEAKER_05: Is it thanks to somebody else?
- 57:42SPEAKER_05: Or is it on your own accord?
- 57:43SPEAKER_03: Well, she she would be very mad at me.
- 57:45SPEAKER_03: She's been getting mad at me that I haven't listened to the whole album yet.
- 57:49SPEAKER_03: So I just tell her I listened all too well.
- 57:51SPEAKER_03: You know, that's a 10-minute song.
- 57:54SPEAKER_05: Babe, I have to listen to the Mavericks and Espanol another time today.
- 57:58SPEAKER_03: Sorry.
- 58:01SPEAKER_03: Great album, fantastic album.
- 58:03SPEAKER_04: Phenomenal album.
- 58:05SPEAKER_03: See, even the phone thinks it was a great album.
- 58:07SPEAKER_03: Uh, but no, uh, the song of the week that Kristen suggested from the Red album is I Bet You Think About Me.
- 58:15SPEAKER_03: Uh, Taylor Swift featuring Chris Stapleton um from this album.
- 58:20SPEAKER_03: She said, uh, you should do I Bet You Think About Me because it features Chris Stapleton and all the other schools wish they could be us, uh, in terms of talking about Texas Tech, because we are the greatest university on the planet.
- 58:33SPEAKER_03: So I appreciate that from her.
- 58:35SPEAKER_05: That's very kind of her, but Texas Tech does not appreciate us talking about it.
- 58:39SPEAKER_05: So it's it's just, you know, yeah, it's not a mutually beneficial relationship.
- 58:44SPEAKER_03: They would rather us just go away, uh, especially after a football loss.
- 58:51SPEAKER_03: Uh, but no, yeah, I bet you think about me featuring Chris Stapleton.
- 58:55SPEAKER_03: That's my song of the week.
- 58:57SPEAKER_04: When you realize I'm harder to forget the novels to live.
- 59:04SPEAKER_03: And I bet you think about me.
- 59:08SPEAKER_05: That's a cool duet.
- 59:09SPEAKER_05: I mean, I'm not gonna turn down anything stapleton on anything, so no doubt.
- 59:12SPEAKER_05: I'm gonna have to absolutely give that one a listen as well.
- 59:15SPEAKER_05: So we already got it on vinyl, it's coming this week.
- 59:17SPEAKER_05: So there you go.
- 59:18SPEAKER_05: It'll be thrown on.
- 59:19SPEAKER_03: Yep, absolutely.
- 59:20SPEAKER_03: 30 songs, man.
- 59:21SPEAKER_03: That's a whole that is a lot, but shouts out to T Swift.
- 59:26SPEAKER_03: Uh, we are uh an anti-Jig Jill and Hall podcast.
- 59:30SPEAKER_03: Uh I like October Sky.
- 59:32SPEAKER_03: No, you can't anymore.
- 59:34SPEAKER_03: Sorry, man.
- 59:35SPEAKER_03: No more.
- 59:36SPEAKER_03: It's out, it's out because of like I think they dated for like four months and it didn't work out.
- 59:41SPEAKER_03: So you can't.
- 59:42SPEAKER_05: I mean, it's crazy that a guy that's like 15 years older than a 20-year-old didn't work out.
- 59:45SPEAKER_03: That's yeah, it's insane.
- 59:47SPEAKER_03: I'm surprised they didn't blend well.
- 59:50SPEAKER_03: No, yeah, it didn't work out, but uh no, we gotta end the podcast.
- 59:55SPEAKER_03: Uh, hope you enjoy the red album, and I hope you've enjoyed that the red raiders.
- 1:00:00SPEAKER_03: The red raiders that Texas Tech dubbed Jonathan Garabay's the greatest person of all time.
- 1:00:05SPEAKER_03: Uh, we're gonna end it off with some plugs, like we always do.
