- 3:27Speaker 1: all the mister damon John big doc.
- 3:29Speaker 3: We appreciate floding on this man. Thank you.
- 3:31Speaker 4: That's some humbling intros. I appreciate that, Thank you man.
- 3:35Speaker 3: No off facts man.
- 3:36Speaker 1: Now, first things first, we can get into the how
- 3:38Speaker 1: when word. While we was doing our research and due diligence,
- 3:41Speaker 1: we've seen some information that you said you want to
- 3:43Speaker 1: lift forever.
- 3:45Speaker 3: We would love to.
- 3:46Speaker 4: Hear more about it, say about one hundred and twenty.
- 3:49Speaker 2: I just want to know how you was talking about
- 3:52Speaker 2: freezing yourself.
- 3:55Speaker 3: No, no, no, I know some people to do that.
- 3:57Speaker 1: But you know, I thought she was talking about the
- 4:00Speaker 1: brand at first, like your brand gonna live forever.
- 4:02Speaker 3: I'm like, yeah, he gonna do that already forever.
- 4:04Speaker 4: I want to live for about one hundred and twenty healthy. Yeah, okay,
- 4:09Speaker 4: I'm thinking about the cry old thing. Okay, that's that
- 4:12Speaker 4: thing where you you know place in Arizona where you
- 4:16Speaker 4: know you you freeze your your spinal cord and you
- 4:18Speaker 4: know in two to three hundred years, but you got
- 4:21Speaker 4: to buy an insurance policy.
- 4:23Speaker 2: We don't want to miss this good conversations.
- 4:25Speaker 4: Yeah, you want to you want to you want to
- 4:27Speaker 4: cry yourself and wake up two to three hundred years
- 4:29Speaker 4: from now. But think about how much money you have.
- 4:32Speaker 4: It's not gonna be worth anything. So you have to
- 4:34Speaker 4: put an insurance policy in and when they then you know,
- 4:37Speaker 4: cry you and wake you up and do all that,
- 4:40Speaker 4: then you have enough money.
- 4:41Speaker 3: So I'm considering that one, but that one down the road.
- 4:44Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't want to ruin this conversation because you're
- 4:46Speaker 1: going crazy, But I would be mad as hell if
- 4:49Speaker 1: I went to sleep rich and woke up broke.
- 4:53Speaker 3: And I got to figure this out again, like he's
- 4:55Speaker 3: doing that every day my party.
- 5:08Speaker 5: So long.
- 5:10Speaker 4: Yeah, I feel funny Trump, You're gonna look like at
- 5:16Speaker 4: what twenty though, Well, I don't know.
- 5:19Speaker 3: You know, it's not a grow it's not a grown
- 5:21Speaker 3: love love grown meat.
- 5:22Speaker 2: Now, so.
- 5:26Speaker 3: That's great, it's right now because we can't even vegetable.
- 5:31Speaker 2: So but by the time you a hundred, you're gonna
- 5:32Speaker 2: look the same when you passed that a hundred is bred.
- 5:34Speaker 3: Well I'm listening.
- 5:35Speaker 4: I'm almost sixty now, so I only got it washing
- 5:38Speaker 4: anothering double.
- 5:39Speaker 2: You know, Oh yeah, to be the one twenty. But
- 5:42Speaker 2: once you're a hundred, because it's you good. Your look
- 5:46Speaker 2: as your look.
- 5:47Speaker 4: I think the look is the look for hundred percent
- 5:50Speaker 4: shipping on yourself all day. Oh yeah, for sure, I
- 5:52Speaker 4: don't think. I don't think the inside is fixed up.
- 5:53Speaker 4: So I gotta I gotta think about that. Maybe I
- 5:55Speaker 4: want to live to about ninety.
- 5:59Speaker 3: I think of you know, I'm cool about ninety two.
- 6:02Speaker 3: Get me on the project.
- 6:03Speaker 2: You can function normally and move around how you do?
- 6:05Speaker 5: You?
- 6:06Speaker 4: You know, what would I want to what would my
- 6:07Speaker 4: wife want to? Still hear from me? You know, another
- 6:11Speaker 4: lifetime of us, you know, telling the same stories to
- 6:14Speaker 4: each other. Well, listen, none of my friends and be
- 6:17Speaker 4: around remix.
- 6:18Speaker 3: I guess I love love. But boy, if I if
- 6:21Speaker 3: I get past that, honeymore, I mean I get to
- 6:22Speaker 3: start over.
- 6:24Speaker 2: Yeah, if my wife is good, I'm just speaking about me.
- 6:26Speaker 2: I'm not sure if my wife is com playing at eighty,
- 6:28Speaker 2: We're just gonna start over. Yeah, I'm gonna hit the portal. Listen,
- 6:35Speaker 2: there's somebody down the street been waiting on me.
- 6:44Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm trying to.
- 6:54Speaker 1: Very interested, for sure, man, please do your research. For sure,
- 6:57Speaker 1: I just keep thinking about the demolition man, right, I'll
- 7:01Speaker 1: be mad in fact, man, Listen, like we said, man,
- 7:05Speaker 1: the impact that you've had on us is to speak
- 7:08Speaker 1: for real, Like we grew up in the era where
- 7:10Speaker 1: you had to have poble Like that was you going
- 7:15Speaker 1: back to school this time of the year, all the
- 7:16Speaker 1: kids getting ready. I need that fit to go back
- 7:19Speaker 1: to school. Oh mom passing that a lot.
- 7:21Speaker 3: I need that jersey. You was talking about the Platinum
- 7:25Speaker 3: Foobo the Fat Hour all in.
- 7:29Speaker 1: I got a real question though, Yeah, because I got
- 7:31Speaker 1: one jersey a school picture.
- 7:33Speaker 3: I only got one school picture.
- 7:34Speaker 1: They know about my school picture my mom and five
- 7:36Speaker 1: school pictures, but I had a football jersey.
- 7:37Speaker 3: Oh five. The next year my mom came, she got
- 7:40Speaker 3: me a ninety two.
- 7:42Speaker 2: Uh huh, Like people were killing me, Like what was
- 7:45Speaker 2: the switch from the old somebody's birthday.
- 7:47Speaker 3: Son or daughter? No, so we formally.
- 7:50Speaker 4: I started in eighty nine and I closed it down
- 7:53Speaker 4: three times from eighty nine to ninety two. Okay, right,
- 7:56Speaker 4: So ninety two actually as well out here for Fanatic
- 8:01Speaker 4: was the first time that I actually bought a little
- 8:03Speaker 4: booth the size of this this area we're at and
- 8:06Speaker 4: did the Black Expo at Javit Center. Oh, first time
- 8:09Speaker 4: I officially did it because I said I needed partners
- 8:12Speaker 4: like you guys, and so we launched the ninety two,
- 8:16Speaker 4: but you know, five, we went back to the five
- 8:21Speaker 4: number because the whole story is the reason why we
- 8:24Speaker 4: had a five one. It was we wanted to be
- 8:26Speaker 4: like a rapper, balls wanted to be rappers, right, so
- 8:28Speaker 4: we wanted to be five of us. But that fifth
- 8:30Speaker 4: member never stuck around. There's ten people running around the
- 8:33Speaker 4: town talking about you know, I'm the fifth member of Fubu.
- 8:36Speaker 3: So that's why we called it five.
- 8:38Speaker 4: But what happened was when we started putting the MTV
- 8:41Speaker 4: and foodbull got really big MTV and BT, they started
- 8:43Speaker 4: blurring the logo because they said, you gotta pay us.
- 8:46Speaker 4: So we started putting just the five in there because
- 8:49Speaker 4: they know you wouldn't blur O five because it was
- 8:51Speaker 4: like a sports figure the sports jersey. But nobody had
- 8:55Speaker 4: started five yet because remember five didn't come around. We
- 8:59Speaker 4: weren't ninety eight ninety nine. So we ended up trademarking
- 9:03Speaker 4: the old five. And we're one of the only companies
- 9:05Speaker 4: in the world that have a trademark on a number
- 9:08Speaker 4: because we trademarked the number.
- 9:09Speaker 3: O five before it actually existed.
- 9:11Speaker 4: Wow, And that's why we went back to Old five
- 9:13Speaker 4: to keep that trademark, and people started knowing the clothes
- 9:16Speaker 4: by Old five and not even fooble.
- 9:18Speaker 3: With me hens on his day and he eats something
- 9:20Speaker 3: a little bit different.
- 9:21Speaker 2: Yeah, man, shout out to you know. We've been eating
- 9:23Speaker 2: Factor here lately, you know, yeah, every time. You know,
- 9:25Speaker 2: we work out with you Monday, Wednesday and Friday. So
- 9:27Speaker 2: I ain't got time to stop. Oh yeah, I grabbed
- 9:31Speaker 2: me a Factor meal.
- 9:32Speaker 6: Bro.
- 9:32Speaker 2: It's you know, thirty grams I mean thirty grams of protein.
- 9:35Speaker 3: Yes, sorry, I mean so oh that's what you mean.
- 9:37Speaker 2: Yeah, and elish meal. It's easy, simple. We just poked
- 9:40Speaker 2: a couple holes on the time. You don't got to
- 9:41Speaker 2: put the plastic off. Three minutes and you're ready to go.
- 9:44Speaker 1: Man, Hey, one man, the gard chicken y'all had smell
- 9:46Speaker 1: good as hell. I was jealous or resum my food away,
- 9:49Speaker 1: y'all had warmed that up. I have a factory order
- 9:51Speaker 1: food I order, So I was asked out, man, But listen,
- 9:53Speaker 1: tap in for sure of a factory.
- 9:55Speaker 4: Man.
- 9:56Speaker 3: If you try and excuse me, try and get on
- 9:58Speaker 3: the talf jurney.

- 10:20Speaker 2: Sam and Joints. I need one of them. Yeah, I
- 10:22Speaker 2: ain't get one of them. I think somebody might have
- 10:24Speaker 2: ate it because you know, it's been so good, everybody
- 10:26Speaker 2: been still in each others. But yeah, I need one
- 10:27Speaker 2: of those.
- 10:28Speaker 3: Come on, man, fresh you never frozen? Warming that up
- 10:32Speaker 3: instead of asking somebody to door dash me.
- 10:33Speaker 2: I'm sure and it's always fresh show never frozen, always fresh,
- 10:37Speaker 2: for sure.
- 10:38Speaker 3: It's in that tap in Man shouts the Factor.
- 10:41Speaker 2: What was the first like rapper influencer enter tainnler to
- 10:44Speaker 2: like help break y'all?
- 10:46Speaker 3: The first one?
- 10:47Speaker 4: Well, I grew up in New York, so I think that, uh,
- 10:50Speaker 4: the first one everywhere was Brand Nubian's. And then I
- 10:55Speaker 4: then Miss Jones and then Method Man in the ice
- 10:59Speaker 4: cream video a couple, and then like Onyx they wore
- 11:07Speaker 4: too because Onix used to be my barber. They used
- 11:08Speaker 4: to be they used to cut my head with. So
- 11:11Speaker 4: we all grew up in Hollis Queen's right here and
- 11:13Speaker 4: so everybody, and you know, I walk a flock of
- 11:16Speaker 4: Mom and I we were kids.
- 11:18Speaker 3: We were probably about we grew up together, so we're
- 11:22Speaker 3: probably like sixteen years old.
- 11:23Speaker 4: And then I remember when Walker was around as a
- 11:26Speaker 4: kid and across the street, and I used to go
- 11:29Speaker 4: on tour with IRV Gotti and Hype Williams. And then
- 11:35Speaker 4: I tried to get Houdini too, because I was actually
- 11:37Speaker 4: I actually auditioned for Houdine to be a breakdancer for them,
- 11:41Speaker 4: and I wrote about it my first book that my
- 11:43Speaker 4: mother said, I actually got accepted to be a breakdancer
- 11:46Speaker 4: for Houdini. And I told my mother sixteen years old,
- 11:48Speaker 4: I'm going on on tour with Houdini. She's like, boy,
- 11:51Speaker 4: get your ass up the room. I see the next
- 11:54Speaker 4: year video with this little Jerry currowhead kid called the
- 11:57Speaker 4: Jermaine Dupre dancing around in that damn video, and I
- 12:00Speaker 4: Remember he took my job. So I threw a pious business.
- 12:03Speaker 2: You know what I mean a lot of people don't know.
- 12:05Speaker 2: Jermaine used to dance.
- 12:06Speaker 3: That was amazing.
- 12:08Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 12:09Speaker 1: Man, there was just so many jewisers dropped in that
- 12:11Speaker 1: statement right there. But I rewinded to kiss some of
- 12:13Speaker 1: that for sure. But like you said, I want to
- 12:15Speaker 1: go back to how it started. You always talking about
- 12:17Speaker 1: we talked about black excellence. Food was a staple. But
- 12:20Speaker 1: well people don't talk about enough. Is that being a
- 12:22Speaker 1: successful business ran by us?
- 12:24Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 12:25Speaker 1: How did that form? How did you guys to get together?
- 12:27Speaker 1: And how did y'all you know what I'm saying persevere
- 12:28Speaker 1: to those earlier harships.
- 12:30Speaker 4: Well, as I said, I failed in eighty nine three
- 12:32Speaker 4: times to ninety two. I said to my friends, I
- 12:34Speaker 4: want to start this, They said, I want to be
- 12:36Speaker 4: down right. We were coming up in Hollis Queens, and
- 12:40Speaker 4: in Hollis Queens you had, like in many of our communities,
- 12:43Speaker 4: you only had two things to do.
- 12:44Speaker 3: Try to become a rapper or a drug dealer.
- 12:46Speaker 4: Right, because even though there were many people who are professionals,
- 12:50Speaker 4: they'd come out to Manhattan and work, we wouldn't see them.
- 12:53Speaker 4: You come out to school three o'clock in the afternoon.
- 12:55Speaker 4: You don't see the professional because they're busy working, doing
- 12:57Speaker 4: their job, trying to feed their family. Right, So we
- 13:00Speaker 4: didn't want to be We didn't want to be drug dealers,
- 13:04Speaker 4: but my friends were all drug dealers. So I decided
- 13:08Speaker 4: I didn't want to sell drugs.
- 13:10Speaker 2: My friend.
- 13:10Speaker 4: That is actually what became one of the biggest drug
- 13:13Speaker 4: dealers is the movie they made Belly about DMX, and
- 13:18Speaker 4: he believed that me, you know, because I told you
- 13:20Speaker 4: we made the movie about and I used to it.
- 13:23Speaker 4: He believed that we had more, we had a brighter
- 13:27Speaker 4: future doing other things. So every time, you know, we
- 13:29Speaker 4: get in the car if he had drugs and play said,
- 13:31Speaker 4: get out, you're better than this. Get out, you're better
- 13:33Speaker 4: than this. And he did that to my other three friends.
- 13:35Speaker 4: All of a sudden, nobody wanted to talk to us
- 13:36Speaker 4: because we out here making clothes. Now. Remember the hip
- 13:40Speaker 4: hop community is a very homophobic community, right, so think
- 13:43Speaker 4: about this, nineteen ninety two, hip hop's flourishing. My friends
- 13:49Speaker 4: are selling drugs. They're like, why you come on hang out,
- 13:52Speaker 4: We're gonna go do some of it. And I'm like, yo,
- 13:53Speaker 4: I got a strawberry pattern at home. I'm gonna go
- 13:56Speaker 4: home and make some shirts. At that time, when you
- 13:59Speaker 4: really thought of about the designers, they were you know,
- 14:02Speaker 4: called Lagafel right or Basachi or people like that. They
- 14:06Speaker 4: weren't making for us by us. It was only called
- 14:08Speaker 4: and I, which we looked up to. So we really
- 14:11Speaker 4: got pushed out of the community at that time. They
- 14:13Speaker 4: were like, I ain't eve mess with them cats, you
- 14:14Speaker 4: know what I mean.
- 14:15Speaker 3: And so it was just us.
- 14:17Speaker 4: But now all of a sudden, we started dressing people,
- 14:20Speaker 4: you know, and we started hooking people up. We started
- 14:22Speaker 4: really hitting up the four and five X guys going
- 14:25Speaker 4: on in the video sets. Because I didn't have enough
- 14:27Speaker 4: money for a lot of shirts, I made fifty shirts,
- 14:29Speaker 4: and I made fifty shirts that were five X and
- 14:31Speaker 4: six X, and I gave them all to the bodyguards.
- 14:34Speaker 4: And those bodyguards were in front of the Red Rope,
- 14:36Speaker 4: they were in front of the music ards, they were
- 14:38Speaker 4: in front of LL and Run, DMC and Salt and Pepper,
- 14:40Speaker 4: and people started seeing them, and then the artists started
- 14:43Speaker 4: asking for the clothes because they saw those guys were
- 14:45Speaker 4: in it. Because those guys didn't have a lot of
- 14:47Speaker 4: fashionable choices. They could either go to Rochester Big and
- 14:49Speaker 4: Toll and get a white shirt or a black shirt.
- 14:51Speaker 4: They get some custom now a sudden, they got a
- 14:53Speaker 4: shirt they can wear ten times a month.
- 14:56Speaker 3: And that's how we really really started. I was wearing five. Yeah.
- 15:06Speaker 4: Well even even even as we blow up, even if
- 15:08Speaker 4: you are an extra small, we cut the We cut
- 15:11Speaker 4: the tie out and put a two X in it
- 15:12Speaker 4: so you felt big.
- 15:14Speaker 2: What did I start out with first was a hats?
- 15:16Speaker 2: T shirts?
- 15:17Speaker 3: Like what was? We went and bought them?
- 15:19Speaker 4: Uh So at first I did that, and you know what,
- 15:22Speaker 4: the first time I saw them last night after thirty years,
- 15:25Speaker 4: and the first time I got to thank Daylight Soul
- 15:27Speaker 4: for for doing that video with the hat that looked
- 15:31Speaker 4: like a ski cap at the time the top. So
- 15:33Speaker 4: that was the hat that I can easily sell. So
- 15:36Speaker 4: that was the first thing we started off with. Okay,
- 15:38Speaker 4: then we did T shirts and then I invested and
- 15:41Speaker 4: I bought. I bought twenty blank c CN Y cause
- 15:44Speaker 4: c c c CM c CM hockey jerseys and I
- 15:47Speaker 4: put the big FB on those hockey jerseys.
- 15:50Speaker 3: That's all we started out with.
- 15:52Speaker 1: Wow, I went through the moon to move to the
- 15:55Speaker 1: Mandy I know how many people like was fighting everywhere
- 15:59Speaker 1: to get that type of stuff, like literally the back
- 16:01Speaker 1: to school, the photos, the fresh family fist is.
- 16:03Speaker 3: You add to get a food fit.
- 16:05Speaker 4: Yeah, we loved it, man, it was it was It's
- 16:08Speaker 4: kind of like a rite of passage and stuff like that,
- 16:10Speaker 4: and it was it was great.
- 16:11Speaker 2: What was the year that you knew that y'all took
- 16:13Speaker 2: was taken off for real?
- 16:15Speaker 4: We took off really in ninety seven ninety eight, that
- 16:19Speaker 4: was that was really the year. That was the year
- 16:22Speaker 4: that it just imploded. I mean I even exploded boom.
- 16:25Speaker 4: It just went everywhere because first we were we were
- 16:29Speaker 4: wearing it right, and then bands like in Sync and
- 16:36Speaker 4: all those other ones started wearing it, so it started
- 16:39Speaker 4: to pop everywhere and everywhere.
- 16:42Speaker 2: That's what I have. I think they had a baby
- 16:44Speaker 2: boo jerseys in the video.
- 16:47Speaker 4: I think about it, yeah, because their manager was the
- 16:49Speaker 4: same manager as Boys and Men, and we knew every
- 16:51Speaker 4: when they were like, yo, we want them to be
- 16:53Speaker 4: able to be cool, but nobody else, nobody else wuld
- 16:57Speaker 4: dress them because the color of their skin in the
- 16:59Speaker 4: hip hop community, and I thigured, you know, listen, I
- 17:03Speaker 4: think that's being a bigot. You know, we're not again,
- 17:06Speaker 4: we're pro black, we're not anti anything else. And when
- 17:09Speaker 4: you wore it, uh, and then now you had l
- 17:11Speaker 4: wearing it, you had in Sync wearing it, you had
- 17:13Speaker 4: the Backstreet Boys wearing it, you had uh yeah, you
- 17:17Speaker 4: had everybody. So and then it's sort of popping up
- 17:18Speaker 4: and like the Martin Show, the Jamie Fox Show, in
- 17:22Speaker 4: Living and all those other shows.
- 17:24Speaker 2: Yeah, Jamie, I'm a yellow one.
- 17:27Speaker 3: Yeah in LL.
- 17:29Speaker 4: And then that's when LL, right around ninety eight did
- 17:31Speaker 4: that commercial where he put Fubu in the Gap commercial.
- 17:35Speaker 3: Damn oh I did about that?
- 17:38Speaker 4: Yeah, he's a if you ever throw it up, it's
- 17:39Speaker 4: it's LL and the Gap commercial going for us by
- 17:42Speaker 4: us on the low. And because none of the executives
- 17:46Speaker 4: a GAP cared or knew about our culture. I don't
- 17:48Speaker 4: care if you black, white, are and different, they heard that.
- 17:51Speaker 4: Remember this before social media existed, but the internet existed.
- 17:54Speaker 4: That commercial aired for six weeks and there's no hashtag
- 17:59Speaker 4: hitting them up going you know, fail you played yourself
- 18:02Speaker 4: and the kids in the mayorroom they're like, oh, idiot's
- 18:06Speaker 4: upstairs on know what's going on? And so they spent
- 18:09Speaker 4: thirty million dollars airing fooble ads.
- 18:12Speaker 3: Wow, the best marketing campaign. You have another brand to
- 18:17Speaker 3: do it for you.
- 18:18Speaker 4: But you know the best thing I love about this
- 18:20Speaker 4: the gap by it everybody right. They hired a multicultural
- 18:25Speaker 4: agency said, do me favorite get rid of this.
- 18:27Speaker 3: This is embarrassing, you know.
- 18:28Speaker 4: The multicultural agency said, I'm from the hood. I hear
- 18:31Speaker 4: something another rumbling going on.
- 18:33Speaker 3: Why don't you check this?
- 18:34Speaker 4: And what they found out was, instead of getting rid
- 18:37Speaker 4: of it, the target market they were trying to hit
- 18:39Speaker 4: increase three hundred percent because the kids thought they didn't
- 18:42Speaker 4: get fuobu gap and then they re ran another sixty
- 18:46Speaker 4: million dollars worth of that.
- 18:48Speaker 3: Wow. Three up, Yeah, I love to hear it.

- 20:17Speaker 1: hundred gambler in Colorado, Illinois, Michigan, New Jersey, and Tennessee.
- 20:21Speaker 2: How did those collabse begin? Like with you a fat
- 20:24Speaker 2: Albert in the Gang Harlem Globetrotters.
- 20:26Speaker 4: Well, it's the same concept of fooble, right, It was
- 20:29Speaker 4: four of us bias a for our community of people
- 20:31Speaker 4: who love hip hop. It was why is Iceberg charging
- 20:33Speaker 4: so much for characters? And why can't we why can't
- 20:37Speaker 4: why can't we have the same characters that we look
- 20:39Speaker 4: up to. Everybody loves Muhammad Ali who doesn't like the Globetrotters?
- 20:43Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 20:43Speaker 2: Right?
- 20:44Speaker 4: And there was another person we did well in fat Albert. Right.
- 20:49Speaker 4: These are legendary brands, these are very you know fact
- 20:52Speaker 4: we love this stuff. I love Snoopy, you know, all
- 20:54Speaker 4: that good, all that stuff. But why is it eight
- 20:56Speaker 4: hundred dollars for for a sweater white?
- 20:59Speaker 3: Can it be two hundre?
- 21:00Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 21:00Speaker 3: I remember my uncle, he's your trap boy. He definitely
- 21:02Speaker 3: had the iceberg. I was.
- 21:03Speaker 2: I had an iceberg. He's a high school I did
- 21:06Speaker 2: it cost him? I had him.
- 21:07Speaker 3: It was definitely white. However though, Hospital twenty nine.
- 21:16Speaker 2: Yeah, they had a little weight on him on dollars.
- 21:23Speaker 3: For sure. You talk about that.
- 21:25Speaker 1: It's so admirable because job marketing campaign just was getting
- 21:29Speaker 1: straight to it. I didn't have social media for somebody
- 21:32Speaker 1: who's upcoming, now, what advice can you give them knowing
- 21:34Speaker 1: that they have all the tools available now to do
- 21:36Speaker 1: everything for themselves.
- 21:37Speaker 3: I mean the advice.
- 21:38Speaker 4: Versus you know, at the end of the day, you
- 21:40Speaker 4: got to do research on what you're trying to do,
- 21:42Speaker 4: you know. I talk about all the ways that I
- 21:45Speaker 4: started for with the real way. When I first thought
- 21:47Speaker 4: it was I just said, I don't have any money.
- 21:49Speaker 4: I'm just going to make fifty calls a day. And
- 21:52Speaker 4: for six months, and the fifty calls I would call recordlabel,
- 21:55Speaker 4: I was called stores, are called manufacturers. Nobody picked up
- 21:57Speaker 4: my call for the first three months, but then after
- 22:00Speaker 4: that they were like, you ain't going a wait, no
- 22:01Speaker 4: I'm not, And they would say, well, I don't have
- 22:03Speaker 4: anything for you, but I got somebody else, So what
- 22:06Speaker 4: is that. Maybe that's your two hundred ms a day. Right,
- 22:09Speaker 4: But you know, Fuobul was not my first business. I
- 22:11Speaker 4: had other businesses, and I failed at those business because
- 22:14Speaker 4: I was just trying to make money Fuoble. When I
- 22:16Speaker 4: found Fooble, I found a love that.
- 22:17Speaker 3: Wait a minute.
- 22:18Speaker 4: When I can go to a video set and dress
- 22:20Speaker 4: the artists, They're not.
- 22:21Speaker 3: Gonna kick me off the set because I have a
- 22:23Speaker 3: reason to be there.
- 22:24Speaker 4: Now I'm watching the best I'm on the set with
- 22:27Speaker 4: you know, Biggie, give me one more chance, Juicy. I'm
- 22:29Speaker 4: on all these sets. I'd have been there anyway, right.
- 22:33Speaker 4: I was just a fan of the culture.
- 22:35Speaker 3: Right.
- 22:36Speaker 4: So you know, it's what I try to tell kids today.
- 22:39Speaker 4: You know, anything you anything that you are buying, you
- 22:42Speaker 4: can sell, and anything you do for free you can
- 22:44Speaker 4: get paid for. Right. So that's what you have to
- 22:47Speaker 4: be when you when you are starting any kind of business.
- 22:49Speaker 4: I'm sure you love sitting here, having interest in conversations,
- 22:52Speaker 4: going back and forth with people. This is a job
- 22:55Speaker 4: for other people. It's probably fun for you. You know,
- 22:57Speaker 4: of course the hard times come. But if you start
- 23:00Speaker 4: off small like that and then you start to find
- 23:04Speaker 4: other people that love what you're doing, you get that community.
- 23:07Speaker 4: I don't care what that community is, and that's how
- 23:10Speaker 4: you grow the business. You'll find a way to monetize it.
- 23:12Speaker 4: But if you don't have a community, you have nothing
- 23:15Speaker 4: you can monetize.
- 23:16Speaker 1: That's a bar right there. Because we always talk about
- 23:19Speaker 1: people especially coming on this line. Obviously for us, we've
- 23:21Speaker 1: had great success, but it took time to get there.
- 23:23Speaker 1: So many people want instat gratification because they see it
- 23:25Speaker 1: now you see on social media somebody's got this or
- 23:27Speaker 1: they're doing this. It's like, it's a lot of legwork
- 23:29Speaker 1: that goes into that before you even get to that point,
- 23:31Speaker 1: even even break even to that point.
- 23:34Speaker 3: Absolutely, and there's no guarantee that you're going to do that.
- 23:36Speaker 3: You know, that's a fact. Listen, Listen.
- 23:38Speaker 4: My daughter used to love going to the animal shelters
- 23:40Speaker 4: and she was like, I don't care if I make
- 23:42Speaker 4: a business out of help and save animals, but five
- 23:45Speaker 4: ten years past, I'm going to be happier than anybody
- 23:47Speaker 4: on the planet because this is what I did.
- 23:50Speaker 3: You have to feel like that.
- 23:51Speaker 4: I would have made clothes for free for the rest
- 23:53Speaker 4: of my life if I could have, Because every time
- 23:55Speaker 4: I made something, I would look at somebody they would
- 23:57Speaker 4: wear a totally different way, and I'd be like, I
- 23:59Speaker 4: never thought about it like that.
- 24:00Speaker 2: You know, what was some of the businesses you started before?
- 24:05Speaker 3: Things?
- 24:05Speaker 4: Oh?
- 24:07Speaker 3: Everything? You know.
- 24:08Speaker 4: I started working when I was six, but I really
- 24:10Speaker 4: started working when I was about ten or eleven. But
- 24:12Speaker 4: out here in New York, we have these things called
- 24:15Speaker 4: dollar cabs, you know, the dollar cabs. I'm a little
- 24:17Speaker 4: bit familiar, Okay. I used, you know, pick people up
- 24:19Speaker 4: on the on each corner like a bus route.
- 24:22Speaker 3: So I used to do that.
- 24:23Speaker 4: Of course I was raking, leave shoveling snow, you know,
- 24:27Speaker 4: bikes together and sell them, you know, all kinds of
- 24:30Speaker 4: I was for sure one of my my second job.
- 24:33Speaker 4: I hate to tell people this who live in the Bronx,
- 24:35Speaker 4: but I was, I was.
- 24:37Speaker 5: I was.
- 24:37Speaker 4: I was wiring the b X cable at twelve years old,
- 24:40Speaker 4: and in buildings burned down buildings they probably burned down
- 24:44Speaker 4: again after.
- 24:48Speaker 3: You was a twelve year old. I don't know. You
- 24:51Speaker 3: look you got with Tremont at now is the time
- 25:05Speaker 3: period I want to ask you this.
- 25:07Speaker 1: We always asked no pocket watching, but man, when you
- 25:09Speaker 1: had that first success of that first real check from
- 25:10Speaker 1: food or their first success breakthrough moment, what you go by?
- 25:14Speaker 3: Nothing responsible?
- 25:14Speaker 4: I know you gs three hundred yeah, And I bought two,
- 25:21Speaker 4: not one, two eighty CD changes, eighty two eighty c
- 25:27Speaker 4: and I sat out in front of Maze's, got a
- 25:29Speaker 4: window of Macy's with all the fools out, and I
- 25:31Speaker 4: split open all one hundred and sixty of those CDs,
- 25:35Speaker 4: looking at the girls go by going.
- 25:36Speaker 3: I got an a d CD change in the back.
- 25:39Speaker 4: The trunk was open, the Cold Could forty Chris and
- 25:42Speaker 4: the really crisp pork ryds And I just sat there
- 25:45Speaker 4: a whole night, eighty CDs and don't forget it's be
- 25:50Speaker 4: the cold forty and the pork ride forty? Did just
- 25:55Speaker 4: forty have a bag or no, baby, I'm opening jods
- 25:57Speaker 4: right now. This give me you right here, That's what
- 26:07Speaker 4: I'm saying about.
- 26:08Speaker 3: Hell yeah, it's crazy, but.
- 26:14Speaker 4: Yeah, cold, I love getting I love from public Kim's
- 26:18Speaker 4: Merrick Boulevard.
- 26:22Speaker 2: How hard was that getting in the stores? It was
- 26:24Speaker 2: pretty easy? Was it? Getting it really hard?
- 26:27Speaker 6: You know?
- 26:28Speaker 4: When we first went around to the department stores. They
- 26:31Speaker 4: said they didn't want our hangtags on it because it
- 26:34Speaker 4: was four black guys on the hangtag, and they said,
- 26:36Speaker 4: we don't want those type of people coming in here
- 26:38Speaker 4: getting into shootouts.
- 26:39Speaker 3: Damn.
- 26:39Speaker 4: And I was like, how are you gonna getting the
- 26:41Speaker 4: shootout buying clothes? So we went to the hood, and
- 26:46Speaker 4: we realized where we should go. So we first started selling.
- 26:50Speaker 4: We first started going one hundred and forty fifth Street,
- 26:53Speaker 4: and and then we went to eight stores in New
- 26:55Speaker 4: York who took us. But what happened was we didn't
- 26:58Speaker 4: realize one hundred and forty fifth Street a lot of
- 26:59Speaker 4: peopleople moving weight, coming up and down the eastern seaball
- 27:02Speaker 4: would stop at one hundred and forty fifth Street, do
- 27:04Speaker 4: whatever they got to do and buy clothes. And it
- 27:06Speaker 4: would start to spread. And about two years after that,
- 27:11Speaker 4: a mom and pop shop that would have you know,
- 27:14Speaker 4: one store, now had four stores because they were selling
- 27:17Speaker 4: food and mecasoda pop and all these other ones. Show
- 27:20Speaker 4: the department stores were starting to lose business. And then
- 27:22Speaker 4: of course it was a misunderstanding and all of a
- 27:25Speaker 4: sudden they wanted to start bringing us in.
- 27:27Speaker 3: We made a mistake we didn't really get that saying, yeah,
- 27:32Speaker 3: we made a mistake to give you a chance.
- 27:37Speaker 4: Was it Jimmy Jazz? I think it was Jimmy jag
- 27:40Speaker 4: or the buckle were doctor J's Doctor JS legendary, Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 27:47Speaker 4: doctor JS.
- 27:50Speaker 3: Man.
- 27:50Speaker 1: Yeah, we had a spot at the crib. I don't
- 27:52Speaker 1: know if they were syndicated now, but man.
- 27:53Speaker 4: Alive we.
- 27:59Speaker 3: Panner.
- 28:00Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 28:00Speaker 3: Horold himself, you know, because it was Harrow was a
- 28:03Speaker 3: great guy. I love Howl.
- 28:06Speaker 4: Yeah, you know, Harold looked like I don't you know
- 28:11Speaker 4: what on Seinfeld with the guy creamy.
- 28:13Speaker 3: Uh yeah, yeah, I think he looked a little bit
- 28:16Speaker 3: like him with glasses. I even know he was a
- 28:18Speaker 3: real person. I just I had to go in there
- 28:20Speaker 3: and get planning.
- 28:20Speaker 2: On brother's first creative recreations. Man, it's football Jersey.
- 28:24Speaker 3: I say, based upon how that store looked in our
- 28:26Speaker 3: particular city. I didn't know that he looked like Crammer.
- 28:30Speaker 2: For sure, them playing with all the characters on the back.
- 28:35Speaker 2: They had the black ones with the orange stitching down
- 28:37Speaker 2: the I remember tell it was y'all used to That's
- 28:47Speaker 2: why I love football too, because he used to be
- 28:49Speaker 2: in the store called Value City. To absolutely so you
- 28:52Speaker 2: used to have them jerseys. They used to be about
- 28:54Speaker 2: thirty offs. But if you wanted the real smoke them
- 28:57Speaker 2: two pieces.
- 28:58Speaker 3: Yeah, you you you gotta check a couple of it
- 29:04Speaker 3: might be missing here and there. Get that.
- 29:08Speaker 2: My first jeans was the dark blue jeans with the
- 29:11Speaker 2: F B in cursive.
- 29:12Speaker 1: Bro I right there, what's the one on fat out
- 29:16Speaker 1: with the other character? He's on the back of my
- 29:18Speaker 1: pen much more he is on the back of my pen.
- 29:21Speaker 2: Yeah, the reason why I start wearing two pieces?
- 29:26Speaker 5: Then you.
- 29:29Speaker 2: That I'm a two piece lord man, that's.
- 29:31Speaker 3: The wordest story.
- 29:32Speaker 1: What was that moment like we first seen the knockoffootball
- 29:35Speaker 1: because you know, when it comes great, somebody guild and.
- 29:38Speaker 4: Tag for sure, knock on food will started to come. Yeah,
- 29:43Speaker 4: around the same time ninety ninety ninety nine. You know,
- 29:48Speaker 4: you know, that's part of the business.
- 29:50Speaker 3: It happens. It's unfortunate, but it happens.
- 29:53Speaker 1: You know.
- 29:53Speaker 4: The counterfeits will do way more than you will do yourself,
- 29:57Speaker 4: you know, and it doesn't come from one place, So
- 29:59Speaker 4: your factories are doing an overrun for themselves.
- 30:02Speaker 3: Right.
- 30:03Speaker 4: Then you got other people who are making an exact
- 30:06Speaker 4: copy of it. Then you got people who are bringing in,
- 30:10Speaker 4: you know, ten million shirts and they're going Tommy, Nike,
- 30:14Speaker 4: Foo Polo. They're just they're just stamping them all. So
- 30:17Speaker 4: there's no way to stop it. You know, we had
- 30:19Speaker 4: a really big problem literally three blocks away when we
- 30:22Speaker 4: tried to stop it with all the buildings where you
- 30:25Speaker 4: go up in there and try to confiscate the goods
- 30:26Speaker 4: and there's a problem.
- 30:29Speaker 1: Yeah, it's good seas and desists. Yeah, I imagine that
- 30:31Speaker 1: get a little tricky.
- 30:33Speaker 4: Yeah, a lot of tricky when there's a when there's
- 30:35Speaker 4: a there's two hundred people in that community selling goods
- 30:38Speaker 4: up and down these buildings.
- 30:39Speaker 3: Yeah, they'll become a problem. Yeah.
- 30:41Speaker 1: It's like, man, I almost lep you off of eating,
- 30:43Speaker 1: but Jah stopped me from eating. So you got to
- 30:44Speaker 1: figure something out. Yeah yeah, yeah, make your own ship
- 30:46Speaker 1: for sure.
- 30:47Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 30:48Speaker 3: I ain't gonna lot Foo that ship. Yeah, I thinking
- 30:51Speaker 3: about that. I had a yellow food legendary. It missed
- 30:54Speaker 3: so much, bro, I was a geek.
- 30:56Speaker 4: You know. We owned the brand Poogie as well, and
- 30:59Speaker 4: uh look yeah and come on there, and.
- 31:04Speaker 2: That's another two piece that y'all had. I got a
- 31:07Speaker 2: little beef. What you ain't gonna lie? Yeah, I only
- 31:11Speaker 2: got one thing for Christmas because it was so hot.
- 31:15Speaker 2: My time was fine.
- 31:17Speaker 4: A lot of wind ones on the Week were acquired
- 31:19Speaker 4: in two thousand and four, two thousand.
- 31:22Speaker 5: And four, all the sixteen then I said, saying, can
- 31:40Speaker 5: get another way?
- 31:45Speaker 3: It was tears. So the coolie bro.
- 31:48Speaker 2: Yeah, that man, a lot of that two pece. That's
- 31:50Speaker 2: how you just set it up to a individual.
- 31:54Speaker 3: Sweater with the black. But I gotta tell you that,
- 31:57Speaker 3: so when we got it out of bankruptcy, we found this.
- 32:00Speaker 4: Only two sweating machines in the world that can knit
- 32:03Speaker 4: that that pattern, well, one in Australia, one in Italy.
- 32:08Speaker 4: So that makes sense again that it cost us a
- 32:11Speaker 4: lot to make that one, you know what I mean?
- 32:12Speaker 2: So now that makes sense.
- 32:14Speaker 3: I never knew that until why so delicate you ever
- 32:17Speaker 3: say like that? You you know, one little piece come out? Yeah,
- 32:21Speaker 3: I ain't gonna lowed to do want to Coolie? I
- 32:23Speaker 3: told We've been talking about the vincer joints, the ones bro.
- 32:26Speaker 2: With the collar that zipped up the halves it they
- 32:28Speaker 2: had the first half zips bro, the real written.
- 32:34Speaker 3: Way together. You know everything.
- 32:40Speaker 2: I'm just saying because I used to really wear that
- 32:42Speaker 2: for me yeah. I grew up around a lot of people.
- 32:44Speaker 3: That thank you man, you know, yeah, passionate about it.
- 32:50Speaker 1: We had what I had a twenty forty Yeah, all
- 32:52Speaker 1: the girls had them coolie dresses, bros.
- 32:55Speaker 3: Real thing.
- 32:55Speaker 1: I used to think that Australia was just cap you know,
- 32:57Speaker 1: you used to put random cities and countries on this
- 32:58Speaker 1: stuff to make you fly.
- 32:59Speaker 3: But that was one of the two places that had
- 33:01Speaker 3: the machine.
- 33:03Speaker 2: That's a real game right there.
- 33:05Speaker 3: Man.
- 33:06Speaker 1: All right, man, we got to go some one of
- 33:07Speaker 1: our favorite shows of all time and something like you said,
- 33:09Speaker 1: keep our households intact Shark Tank Tank.
- 33:12Speaker 3: How did you get involved with that show?
- 33:13Speaker 4: First and foremost, I was I had a book out
- 33:18Speaker 4: and I was doing uh uh, and I was doing
- 33:20Speaker 4: shows like Donnie Deutsch had a show called The Big
- 33:23Speaker 4: Idea something like that where the pitch idea but nobody's
- 33:26Speaker 4: investing in you just tell the idea of it, right.
- 33:28Speaker 4: And then the show really came from a format I
- 33:31Speaker 4: think it's called Tiger's Den in Japan. Uh And then
- 33:35Speaker 4: it got big in London, and then Kinada came to America.
- 33:39Speaker 4: Mark Burnett and the team called me and they said, well,
- 33:43Speaker 4: you know, we see you on those shows. You know
- 33:44Speaker 4: how to break down the pitch. I said, okay.
- 33:48Speaker 2: Uh.
- 33:48Speaker 3: They said, you're gonna have to spend your own money.
- 33:51Speaker 3: Click people crazy, I heard.
- 33:54Speaker 4: I heard. You don't get paid in Hollywood, but these
- 33:56Speaker 4: people pims. They want me to actually spend my own money.
- 33:58Speaker 4: And then they said, oh, I said, well, who else
- 34:00Speaker 4: gonna be on? They said, you know Mark Cuban. I
- 34:02Speaker 4: was like, I was like that big here boy who
- 34:05Speaker 4: would be doing throwing chairs on the court, who got
- 34:09Speaker 4: all that kind of money, he gonna be on the
- 34:11Speaker 4: show buying sponges. I said, you're lying, and he said,
- 34:14Speaker 4: just come on and try. I said, well, first of all,
- 34:16Speaker 4: I'm not going to do it yet because i have
- 34:18Speaker 4: to do this other show. I'm I'm mentoring and I'm
- 34:23Speaker 4: kind of in charge of their product integration, kind of
- 34:25Speaker 4: co managing these three girls out of California that are
- 34:28Speaker 4: coming out with a clothing line. They have a clothing
- 34:30Speaker 4: store in California. They say, all right, well you can't
- 34:32Speaker 4: do any other show without They said, all right, I
- 34:34Speaker 4: appreciate it, thank you. I got to go because I
- 34:35Speaker 4: was only going to be in this other cable show
- 34:37Speaker 4: three separate times three minutes Speece. Nine minutesoto, I get
- 34:40Speaker 4: a call from La from this agent and says, I
- 34:44Speaker 4: heard you gave up a mark in that show for
- 34:46Speaker 4: three girl named the Kardashkians that nobody will ever know
- 34:49Speaker 4: of what's wrong with you?
- 34:51Speaker 3: And I was like, yeah, well I'm a man on
- 34:53Speaker 3: my word. He's like, you're an idiot.
- 34:55Speaker 4: And then I get a call about well four days
- 34:59Speaker 4: later and reduced to the Kardashians, was like, you don't
- 35:02Speaker 4: really fit the profile of what we need.
- 35:03Speaker 3: We're gonna we're not. We don't need you on the
- 35:05Speaker 3: show no more. You go buy it quick.
- 35:07Speaker 4: And I get a call about two hour later Mark Manette,
- 35:10Speaker 4: so I heard you're available.
- 35:14Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 35:14Speaker 4: So Chloe found out that I was going to actually
- 35:16Speaker 4: turn down Shark Tank because I was co managing the girls.
- 35:19Speaker 4: If you have a look at the first two or
- 35:21Speaker 4: three seasons of Kardashians, coogie for sure, because I'm the
- 35:25Speaker 4: one placing you all in there. And then she said
- 35:27Speaker 4: she was gonna fire me because she didn't she didn't
- 35:30Speaker 4: want to hold me back and she felt the world
- 35:32Speaker 4: need to know who I was.
- 35:34Speaker 3: So, man, that's really.
- 35:38Speaker 2: A crazy story.
- 35:39Speaker 5: Bro.
- 35:40Speaker 1: Yeah, man, you know how you have the game am
- 35:42Speaker 1: with just a few friends, always really kind of background noise,
- 35:45Speaker 1: and then dang, something crazy happens, a big play or
- 35:47Speaker 1: momentum shift.
- 35:48Speaker 3: It changed the whole stakes of the game. They see,

- 36:49Speaker 3: Pre Kaitling was wearing it anyway, pre Kaitling that bring
- 36:57Speaker 3: pre Kayler show. I'm gonna tell you why wearing it.
- 37:01Speaker 3: I'm gonna tell you what.
- 37:03Speaker 4: I'm in charge of all product placement for their show.
- 37:06Speaker 3: I go around.
- 37:07Speaker 4: Were in Manhattan right now, yes, sir, right in this
- 37:10Speaker 4: area is the fashion district. I go around to everybody
- 37:14Speaker 4: I know, especially my guys at Jorda Ash. Now, these guys,
- 37:17Speaker 4: they have no shortage of cash. They are super, super good.
- 37:22Speaker 4: I say, these girls and this whole family will wear
- 37:25Speaker 4: all of your products for the whole year for.
- 37:27Speaker 3: Seventy five thousand dollars.
- 37:30Speaker 4: They go, No way in the world is it worth it.
- 37:33Speaker 4: Absolutely not. They're not gonna be anybody. Nobody understood it,
- 37:36Speaker 4: and I understand why. It's not their culture, it's not
- 37:39Speaker 4: their world. So I felt stupid, so I said, girls,
- 37:44Speaker 4: I failed you. I'm gonna give you the seventy five.
- 37:46Speaker 4: Just wear the koogie as much as you can. They
- 37:48Speaker 4: were like, no problem, let's go. And years later all
- 37:52Speaker 4: my friends called back. Yo, I still got that seventy five.
- 37:56Speaker 4: You can't do a tweak for seventy five X whatever
- 38:01Speaker 4: you want.
- 38:01Speaker 3: To call it.
- 38:01Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 38:02Speaker 3: Wow, man, you've been a part of a lot of people.
- 38:07Speaker 3: Oh man, be part of it one hundred and twenty.
- 38:11Speaker 3: Oh yeah, I was about to be crazy.
- 38:16Speaker 4: You're gonna be d You're gonna have every Paul in
- 38:18Speaker 4: the world. I'm like, I knew that cat when he
- 38:20Speaker 4: was you know, I want a podcast. You know what
- 38:22Speaker 4: I'm saying now, he ain't talking to nobody.
- 38:25Speaker 2: Tell me about wake me up.
- 38:31Speaker 1: I'm so sleepy always. Probably we had we had Cubo,
- 38:36Speaker 1: Mark Cuban met our guy, for sure. What was one company?
- 38:39Speaker 1: What I did that you passed on? That you regret it?
- 38:42Speaker 2: You know?
- 38:42Speaker 4: I would like to say none, but I'd be lying
- 38:46Speaker 4: because the one I passed on I didn't pass on.
- 38:48Speaker 4: I lost it because I thought I was being slick
- 38:51Speaker 4: and I was ratcheting up the numbers. So what cost
- 38:53Speaker 4: the shark? The other shark mare was the scrub Daddy,
- 38:58Speaker 4: scrub Daddy.
- 38:59Speaker 3: Laurie did it.
- 39:00Speaker 4: The sponge with the smiling smiling thing. Oh, I've seen
- 39:03Speaker 4: k right, you can put into that I'll be put
- 39:05Speaker 4: in like two hundred ks. I forgot what it was,
- 39:07Speaker 4: but I you know, listen, I made it. It costs
- 39:11Speaker 4: an extra twenty five k because I put the price up,
- 39:15Speaker 4: and I think they're at about one point four billion.
- 39:17Speaker 2: Oh yeah, I definitely use that.
- 39:19Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 39:20Speaker 4: So I'm not happy about that because not only that,
- 39:22Speaker 4: like I walk in the store as the damn scrub Daddy,
- 39:24Speaker 4: scrub Mommy, and the scrub baby, every all kind of
- 39:26Speaker 4: scrub ship is all around.
- 39:28Speaker 3: I'm using it at home.
- 39:30Speaker 2: It's a good fun.
- 39:33Speaker 3: It's a great spine.
- 39:34Speaker 1: They got scrub everything, killing me, killing me two hundred
- 39:42Speaker 1: even if it was oh my lord boy.
- 39:44Speaker 3: But I got it. I got it back there.
- 39:46Speaker 4: But you know I got I got the number one
- 39:48Speaker 4: successful invested in product and shark tank history out of
- 39:51Speaker 4: all fifty four shark tanks around the world.
- 39:53Speaker 3: Talk about it.
- 39:54Speaker 4: It's called bomba Socks, bomba Socks.
- 39:58Speaker 3: I've seen this episode. I'm not from Bamba Saus.
- 40:01Speaker 4: They're prepared that they we sell, we give appair to
- 40:04Speaker 4: the home.
- 40:06Speaker 3: I think they'll hit almost two point eight billion.
- 40:09Speaker 5: Wow.
- 40:11Speaker 4: So I know you've interviewed Cuban and you probably will
- 40:13Speaker 4: interview other people or I call them my fellow sharks
- 40:16Speaker 4: or underachievers behind them. But Damon John has the number
- 40:22Speaker 4: one invested product out of all fifty four shark tanks
- 40:27Speaker 4: around the world.
- 40:28Speaker 3: Yeah, that's the only thing that.
- 40:30Speaker 4: You can You really hang your hat on a shark
- 40:32Speaker 4: tank as the number one person.
- 40:35Speaker 3: You gotta respect them. What made you think that product's
- 40:37Speaker 3: gonna work? But I had no idea.
- 40:40Speaker 4: Wow, zero, I love the people. At the end of
- 40:43Speaker 4: the day, that's the investment.
- 40:44Speaker 3: Right, I don't need it. I don't. I don't need
- 40:47Speaker 3: to even know you to make money. I don't. I don't.
- 40:49Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 40:49Speaker 4: Elon Musk, Right, I'm doing really well with some of that.
- 40:52Speaker 4: I don't need to know people building infrastructure of aris.
- 40:54Speaker 4: I think I just go to the public market, right,
- 40:57Speaker 4: They don't wake up Steve Jobs from the dead and
- 40:59Speaker 4: asked and he asked me how to fix a computer,
- 41:01Speaker 4: or Jeff Bezos don't ask me how to mail a box.
- 41:04Speaker 3: So if I have to like you.
- 41:06Speaker 4: And I actually went on Shark Tank not to invest
- 41:08Speaker 4: in any clothes. So I really was going to pass
- 41:11Speaker 4: on it because I already had. Remember, Shark Tank started
- 41:15Speaker 4: seven to eight. Nobody was buying more clothes.
- 41:18Speaker 3: How this, dude, you can't pay your rent?
- 41:20Speaker 4: Right, So I'm saying there, sorry, man, but we needed you,
- 41:24Speaker 4: we needed your baby. So I clothing brands, and eight
- 41:30Speaker 4: of them were dead. The last thing I wanted to
- 41:32Speaker 4: do is buy another clothing brand so I wouldn't be
- 41:34Speaker 4: able to go to Macy's. Remember, there's only three ways
- 41:36Speaker 4: to ever deal with a customer, right, You acquire a
- 41:38Speaker 4: new one, you upsell a current one, or you make
- 41:40Speaker 4: one buy more frequently.
- 41:42Speaker 3: Right.
- 41:42Speaker 4: And it's twenty five times harder to acquire a new
- 41:46Speaker 4: customer than upsell one to make one buy more frequently. Right,
- 41:49Speaker 4: So I want to supersize my fries. Every time I
- 41:51Speaker 4: went to Macy's, I wanted to say, I don't only
- 41:53Speaker 4: have clothing. I got electronics, I got plants, I got
- 41:55Speaker 4: this and that. I want to go on to the
- 41:56Speaker 4: show to diversify my portfolio. The last thing I wanted
- 42:00Speaker 4: to do get more clothes.
- 42:03Speaker 3: Little did you know? Little did I know?
- 42:04Speaker 4: But I like the guys and they like me, And
- 42:08Speaker 4: you know, they don't use a shark as a crutch.
- 42:11Speaker 4: They use me for my advice when they can they say, hey,
- 42:13Speaker 4: I need I need to answer to these things. I
- 42:15Speaker 4: give them ten answers to go these eight don't work
- 42:17Speaker 4: this one and maybe in this one might uh. And
- 42:20Speaker 4: then and then they asked ten other mentors, and that
- 42:23Speaker 4: that's the best thing about real entrepreneurs.
- 42:25Speaker 3: They constantly on a quest for information. Shout out to them. Yeah,
- 42:34Speaker 3: I couldn't imagine, boy, I could not imagine.
- 42:36Speaker 2: What's something that surprised you, that took off that you
- 42:39Speaker 2: invested in? What I like, surprise you.
- 42:42Speaker 3: It bombs that did well.
- 42:44Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm gonna give it a try.
- 42:49Speaker 3: And then young, young, young brother comes on.
- 42:53Speaker 4: He had a million dollars in scholarships that he figured
- 42:56Speaker 4: out how to find scholarships were available on the market,
- 43:00Speaker 4: all right. He wanted to do an app. Of course,
- 43:04Speaker 4: scolly this app.
- 43:05Speaker 3: He comes on.
- 43:06Speaker 4: He pitches the idea he wants like one hundred thousand,
- 43:09Speaker 4: and thank god, I'm in a good place to do that,
- 43:11Speaker 4: Laurie and I liked the idea. I see some qualification.
- 43:14Speaker 4: I see that, I see that he actually learned how
- 43:19Speaker 4: to get these scholarships. He wants to do this way
- 43:22Speaker 4: he shows parents on how to get scholarships to their kids.
- 43:25Speaker 4: I don't know much about tech, but the hardest part
- 43:27Speaker 4: is understanding that of the scholarship part, we'll get somebody
- 43:31Speaker 4: to do that. Tech Cuban, Kevin and Robert all say
- 43:36Speaker 4: it's charity. How dare you can remember they're all tech guys.
- 43:39Speaker 4: They're too close to it, like I'm too close to
- 43:41Speaker 4: clothing right now. They get mad, they get into a
- 43:44Speaker 4: fight with Laurie and me, Laurie and I, and then
- 43:47Speaker 4: they exit the stage. This is one of the biggest
- 43:48Speaker 4: fights we ever had in Shark Tank history. I got
- 43:51Speaker 4: it eighty times. Exit on that company. Wow, you want
- 43:56Speaker 4: a ten X? I got eight Because they exited. They
- 44:00Speaker 4: sold to Fanny Mayo. You go on to Fanny may
- 44:04Speaker 4: and you get this. You get to see the options
- 44:06Speaker 4: for scholarships. And so that was the best one because
- 44:09Speaker 4: first of all, we stuck it to them. We showed
- 44:12Speaker 4: that it's not the charity tank. You can invest in
- 44:14Speaker 4: somebody who may have an idea and is not a
- 44:17Speaker 4: tech person.
- 44:18Speaker 3: I can't. I can only sew that little hat. I'm
- 44:21Speaker 3: not a real designer. I mean I'm a.
- 44:23Speaker 4: Marketer, right, you know Vasace, you roll over in his
- 44:26Speaker 4: gravey if I call myself a designer, right, I put
- 44:29Speaker 4: a big old five and one but look where I
- 44:32Speaker 4: am today. So it shows you that if you have
- 44:35Speaker 4: the if you have the if you love what you're doing.
- 44:37Speaker 4: He loved scholarships, he loved empowering people. If you love
- 44:40Speaker 4: what you're doing, uh, nobody can disqualify you by saying
- 44:45Speaker 4: you ain't gonna make it.
- 44:46Speaker 3: And I think that's why I loved it so much.
- 44:48Speaker 3: And the proof is the number at the end of
- 44:50Speaker 3: the day. How we exit it. Eighty times crazy help
- 44:53Speaker 3: investments to me amazing.
- 44:56Speaker 4: Imagine if you made eighty times on any investments.
- 45:00Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 45:00Speaker 2: So outside of all the business stuff, man, what do
- 45:02Speaker 2: you do for like hobbies?
- 45:03Speaker 4: Ma?
- 45:03Speaker 2: How you just kicked the ship like in your downtime hobbies?
- 45:08Speaker 4: You know. Somebody asked me that the other day and
- 45:11Speaker 4: I and I realized that in the last two years,
- 45:13Speaker 4: I don't I don't really have any hobbies anymore. Besides
- 45:16Speaker 4: the biohacking stuff. I do a lot of biohacking, that's
- 45:19Speaker 4: the whole one.
- 45:19Speaker 3: Hundred and twenty. I do a red bed or I
- 45:21Speaker 3: do you know.
- 45:24Speaker 4: Blood you know, you know, taking out your blood for
- 45:27Speaker 4: ebo and all this kind of stuff. But the reason
- 45:30Speaker 4: why I realized I don't have any hobbies more, which
- 45:32Speaker 4: I used to do a lot of fishing. I used
- 45:33Speaker 4: to do a lot of snowboarding. Is because I'm so
- 45:36Speaker 4: busy just studying AI, studying AI, studying where this world
- 45:41Speaker 4: is going. Uh, you know, studying AI, biohacking, and a
- 45:46Speaker 4: little bit of prepper stuff, you know, a little bit
- 45:49Speaker 4: of making sure that you know, I got the compound
- 45:51Speaker 4: ready and when it goes down.
- 45:53Speaker 3: Okay, I'm saying, yeah, backyard.
- 45:58Speaker 1: It's your little bunking. Yeah, this art man, you gotta
- 46:03Speaker 1: go in the bucker man. I know you are a
- 46:05Speaker 1: huge look at it.
- 46:06Speaker 3: He's gonna I'm gonna look at it. No. Yeah, I
- 46:11Speaker 3: do a lot of art. Yeah, I mean I I
- 46:13Speaker 3: started doing art. I'm not like I said.
- 46:15Speaker 4: First of all, honestly, food wouldn't be around, or if
- 46:17Speaker 4: I didn't, I wasn't able to get artists to make
- 46:20Speaker 4: the products and the stuff for me, right, the clothes
- 46:23Speaker 4: and the stuff. But I really started art because a
- 46:26Speaker 4: buddy of mine had a company call Art for Addiction,
- 46:29Speaker 4: and and I realized one thing that athletes or singers,
- 46:35Speaker 4: if you don't get to obviously the top level, you
- 46:39Speaker 4: may be able to work in the business somewhat right.
- 46:41Speaker 3: You may be able to be somewhere in the business.
- 46:43Speaker 4: But an artists, a lot of them addicted to a
- 46:47Speaker 4: lot of you know, they have a lot of addiction
- 46:49Speaker 4: in the community. They don't have any support. Very very
- 46:52Speaker 4: few them will make it, and very few will end
- 46:54Speaker 4: up having a job that has anything to do with that.
- 46:56Speaker 4: But they'll still create art and beauty. And then if
- 47:00Speaker 4: they do get someplace, people are betting on them to die.
- 47:03Speaker 4: And I realized that if I could put art in
- 47:06Speaker 4: the back of my backdrops and stuff like that and
- 47:08Speaker 4: just give them public stages that you know, a couple
- 47:11Speaker 4: of them was getting attention and behave yourself.
- 47:13Speaker 3: And I just started collecting it.
- 47:16Speaker 4: And I realized always that it was an asset class,
- 47:18Speaker 4: but I wasn't one of the kind of guys to
- 47:19Speaker 4: buy and put it away.
- 47:21Speaker 3: I just bought it and put it up because I
- 47:23Speaker 3: like it.
- 47:23Speaker 4: I want to enjoy it while I'm alive, right, And
- 47:26Speaker 4: then that's how it really started getting into it. And
- 47:27Speaker 4: then I started representing a couple of artists, just trying
- 47:29Speaker 4: to hook them up and just telling them all the artists, hey,
- 47:32Speaker 4: send me stuff, I'll put it in the back of me.
- 47:33Speaker 4: Maybe he gets highlighted on some big TV show and
- 47:35Speaker 4: I sent.
- 47:35Speaker 3: It back you, And so that's how I started doing.
- 47:38Speaker 3: I just started falling in love with it. Yeah.
- 47:40Speaker 1: I bought some art pieces in my day. Shout out
- 47:42Speaker 1: to one of my mentors in Atlanta, mister Palmer. He
- 47:45Speaker 1: helped me to buy some art and I was young.
- 47:47Speaker 1: It was a piece that was like twenty thousand dollars.
- 47:49Speaker 1: I just couldn't understand. I'm like, hell nah. He was like,
- 47:53Speaker 1: you got about it? Like, no way, brother, So I
- 47:57Speaker 1: bought it and then want to appreciated it was around
- 48:00Speaker 1: one hundred and fifty thousand. That was after like three years.
- 48:04Speaker 3: He was just like, keep this grab it's a great asset.
- 48:07Speaker 3: Class you can pass that down to your family. Yeah.
- 48:10Speaker 3: Just where is that now?
- 48:12Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 48:12Speaker 3: I left it in one of my consoles in Atlanta.
- 48:15Speaker 3: You left it? Oh that's a yeah, yeah, a little
- 48:19Speaker 3: spect gay.
- 48:25Speaker 2: That's crazy though.
- 48:26Speaker 3: I left it at Atlanta. Never very I know where
- 48:30Speaker 3: it is.
- 48:30Speaker 5: You know where.
- 48:30Speaker 3: I know if they watched this, they're gonna hide out
- 48:35Speaker 3: from you.
