- 0:06Speaker 1: Hello, and welcome to No Dribble, the podcast where we
- 0:09Speaker 1: talk about netball, but we talk about so much more.
- 0:13Speaker 1: And once again there's a lot of netball to talk
- 0:15Speaker 1: about this week. Once again we've got someone floating somewhere
- 0:19Speaker 1: around the globe. Though I'm by myself in Sydney. Catherine's
- 0:23Speaker 1: not here. I do have a very happy surprise for you, though,
- 0:27Speaker 1: but oh well, you're not the surprise.
- 0:32Speaker 2: I'm not happy either. No, I'm always happy. But I
- 0:35Speaker 2: did butt in then, so I'm sorry, aren't we Just
- 0:37Speaker 2: like how many episodes have we done? Now? We are
- 0:39Speaker 2: not yet a well old machine, but I feel like
- 0:41Speaker 2: it's around the corner.
- 0:45Speaker 1: This is very excited. We obviously missing Cash. She has
- 0:48Speaker 1: made it back safely from the Middle East, but she's
- 0:50Speaker 1: got family with her this week. So once again, our
- 0:53Speaker 1: superstar sub has stepped in to update us. We've missed
- 0:57Speaker 1: you so much. Welcome back from the wild West.
- 1:00Speaker 2: Well me jet lags, sue Gordion jet lag, Sue Gordion
- 1:04Speaker 2: jet lags. So god in And you know what leaves
- 1:06Speaker 2: the second that this podcast becomes a well old machine,
- 1:08Speaker 2: it's over. Yeah, so I think it's mean we're not
- 1:12Speaker 2: running it anymore. It's part of the charm. Actually, I'm
- 1:16Speaker 2: in Mudge in New South central western New South Wales
- 1:18Speaker 2: watching Evelyn play in the Rugby State Championships. Much against
- 1:22Speaker 2: my will anyway, I occasionally let her see other sports
- 1:25Speaker 2: as long as she comes back to netball. But actually
- 1:28Speaker 2: I feel like this podcast is like this Airbnb. It's
- 1:31Speaker 2: sort of a bit doesn't look much on the outside,
- 1:33Speaker 2: but you get it and it's quite roomy, and then
- 1:35Speaker 2: there's lots of quaint parts, but there's things that don't
- 1:38Speaker 2: quite work. And that's what this podcast is like. Oh,
- 1:44Speaker 2: that's so funny. So can you imagine us advertised on
- 1:47Speaker 2: the Airbnb side, it'd be great.
- 1:51Speaker 1: We booked an airbnb once for Pete's parents' sixtieth wedding
- 1:54Speaker 1: anniversary and we thought we'll have a really nice lunch.
- 1:56Speaker 1: We booked this beautiful place in Orange and with a
- 1:59Speaker 1: gorgeous twenty thirty seed a dining table out in this
- 2:03Speaker 1: sun room, and we had everyone was coming, so we're
- 2:06Speaker 1: all going to be in the kitchen and we had this.
- 2:08Speaker 1: I brought in crockery and everything to make it look
- 2:11Speaker 1: really nice, and the bloody dish washer broke. And this
- 2:14Speaker 1: was for Saturday and it's okay, We've got a lot
- 2:17Speaker 1: of people coming for lunch. And they said, yeah, we
- 2:19Speaker 1: can replace it on Monday. Not much good to me
- 2:22Speaker 1: on Monday. So yeah, we went old school and the
- 2:25Speaker 1: children learned how to wash dishes.
- 2:27Speaker 2: That weekend, our kids learned to watch the dishes when
- 2:30Speaker 2: we were traveling in the caravan, and they thought it
- 2:32Speaker 2: was a bit fun. But we did let them put
- 2:34Speaker 2: their own playlist on and we went and sat outside
- 2:37Speaker 2: and drank wine and shit that used to get played.
- 2:43Speaker 2: Oh the country. Speaking of Airbnb's, I've had no shortage
- 2:47Speaker 2: of it in the last six weeks. It's been I've
- 2:50Speaker 2: been to London, Vienna, Croatia, Greece, Sardinya, Portugal, Gibraltar, Spain, Gibraltar.
- 3:00Speaker 2: Not a netball in those places other than at the end,
- 3:04Speaker 2: which is which is a great story. If we get time,
- 3:06Speaker 2: I have to tell you about how nothing ever goes
- 3:09Speaker 2: wrong on the holiday until the last day.
- 3:12Speaker 3: Well let's hear it.
- 3:14Speaker 2: On the inside this podcast. So go for your life
- 3:17Speaker 2: or so. So I traveled with Rosie and two of
- 3:21Speaker 2: our very best friends and we like I was, you know,
- 3:25Speaker 2: when you see those tiktoks, who's who's the one that
- 3:27Speaker 2: organizes everything, Who's who's the one that just goes behind? Yeah,
- 3:32Speaker 2: like all that. Yep, So I was the organizer in
- 3:34Speaker 2: amongst my other three jobs that I used to have.
- 3:37Speaker 2: And the trip was great, terrific trip. Loved Europe. I've
- 3:41Speaker 2: never been to Europe when the sun's been shining. I've
- 3:44Speaker 2: only ever done about five or six trips for other work.
- 3:46Speaker 1: When it's isn't it a revelation?
- 3:48Speaker 2: It's a revelation. Like, honestly, don't get me wrong, a
- 3:52Speaker 2: cold Christmas and is lovely, but when you're a you know,
- 3:56Speaker 2: beach girl, it doesn't rub for too long. So anyhow,
- 4:00Speaker 2: long story short, the whole trip, in the back of
- 4:02Speaker 2: my head, I'm like, hopefully nothing goes wrong. You know,
- 4:05Speaker 2: you want your luggage to turn up. You want this,
- 4:07Speaker 2: you want that, smooth as smooth, and this trip I
- 4:11Speaker 2: was traveling. The start of this trip, girls, was because
- 4:14Speaker 2: I was going to Gibraltar for the World Youth Cup
- 4:16Speaker 2: to present at a coach's conference over there with Europe
- 4:20Speaker 2: Neppul and Tracy Nibble and so I had flown into
- 4:24Speaker 2: London but then done my trip and then had to
- 4:26Speaker 2: land in Gibraltar on a Friday evening ready to start
- 4:30Speaker 2: the conference on the Saturday. We were in a place
- 4:33Speaker 2: in Portugal called Elbi Federal, which is on the Elgave
- 4:36Speaker 2: coast and about five hundred k from Gibraltar, across a
- 4:39Speaker 2: couple of countries, and I had organized a driver to
- 4:42Speaker 2: pick us up because there are no other way to
- 4:45Speaker 2: get there. There's no bus, there's no train. If you do,
- 4:47Speaker 2: it's a thirteen hour trip. Blah blah blah, blah blah.
- 4:50Speaker 2: And about two days prior I just started going, I
- 4:53Speaker 2: hope this guy turns up, because if he doesn't, I'm
- 4:57Speaker 2: much shit creek without a paddle. And lo and behold,
- 5:01Speaker 2: ten am, the bloke doesn't turn up. I, who usually
- 5:05Speaker 2: copes very well under pressure and had done this entire
- 5:08Speaker 2: troop because the other three, my very dear friends and hairdressers,
- 5:11Speaker 2: were useless at the best of times, and I'm in
- 5:13Speaker 2: that nicely. I lost the plot. I was like, oh
- 5:18Speaker 2: my god, what am I going to do? And God
- 5:20Speaker 2: love Rosie. Rosie found a solution, which guys was hysterical.
- 5:25Speaker 2: So she walks up to the little hotel next to
- 5:27Speaker 2: our beautiful Airbnb and says to the lady who spoke
- 5:31Speaker 2: very little English, but we need to get to Gibraltar.
- 5:35Speaker 2: And the lady goes, hmm, that's not easy. I'll call
- 5:38Speaker 2: a taxi. And I was like, for five hundred kilometers,
- 5:44Speaker 2: I'll call a taxi. And so Rose comes down. She goes, look,
- 5:47Speaker 2: we can get there, but it's by a taxi. And
- 5:49Speaker 2: at this point I'm like, I don't care what it costs.
- 5:52Speaker 2: I've got to get there. And so anyhow, the lady goes,
- 5:55Speaker 2: the taxi will be here in about five to ten minutes.
- 5:57Speaker 2: And in two minutes his taxi turns up. This bloke
- 6:00Speaker 2: no English, and he's like, Daxi And I said, yes,
- 6:05Speaker 2: that was very quick. See where you're going, you know?
- 6:07Speaker 2: And I said yes, see and I said Gibraltar. And
- 6:10Speaker 2: he was like where, and I said Gibraltar. And he
- 6:14Speaker 2: starts speaking to the lady at the hotel and they're
- 6:16Speaker 2: going back and forth and they're like, where the hell's Gibraltar.
- 6:21Speaker 2: So he looks it up on his phone, and I'm
- 6:23Speaker 2: sure he swore he was like, you know, Holy Mother,
- 6:27Speaker 2: and then he looks and he goes, it's like five
- 6:30Speaker 2: hundred kilometers across a couple of countries. And we're like, mm, hmm,
- 6:34Speaker 2: and he said you have to pay and I'm like, yeah,
- 6:37Speaker 2: how much? And it ended up only being five hundred euro,
- 6:39Speaker 2: which was quite cheek. It was a euro a kilometer
- 6:43Speaker 2: and between the four of us was fine. And so
- 6:46Speaker 2: he jumps in his car takes off at one hundred
- 6:48Speaker 2: and sixty kilometers an hour until we kind of say
- 6:51Speaker 2: slow down, We're not in that much of a hurry.
- 6:53Speaker 2: And then he rings his wife once we get into
- 6:56Speaker 2: Espanol and he's like, I'm sure he was saying something,
- 6:59Speaker 2: h I love I'm in Spain on my way to
- 7:00Speaker 2: a place called Gibraltar and it might be late for dinner.
- 7:07Speaker 2: That was hysterical. And then the best part, Liz, you
- 7:09Speaker 2: would love this. So we get to Gibraltar. Have you
- 7:12Speaker 2: been either of you been toach No? I thought it
- 7:14Speaker 2: was an island. Is it not an island? Taxi there,
- 7:18Speaker 2: I was like, what, it's at the base of Spain.
- 7:20Speaker 2: It's at the base of Spain's Honestly, it's the most
- 7:23Speaker 2: unique place to visit. And I was all complexed about
- 7:27Speaker 2: the World Youth Cup being held there, but it was unreal.
- 7:30Speaker 2: It was so cool. Anyhow, got to Gibraltar border and
- 7:35Speaker 2: it's a British owned country territory, yep. And they wouldn't
- 7:40Speaker 2: let the taxi in across the border because it was well,
- 7:43Speaker 2: he was from Portugal, so they thought he was going
- 7:45Speaker 2: to jump on a ship and take people smuggling what
- 7:48Speaker 2: was going on?
- 7:49Speaker 1: And so we get voluntary people smuggling though.
- 7:53Speaker 2: Yeah, we put our hands up to be smuggled, that's right.
- 7:57Speaker 2: So we get dumped in Spain for Ossie's with our
- 7:59Speaker 2: suit case. We walk through customs across the border and
- 8:04Speaker 2: the border ps is the airport runway. So you walk
- 8:09Speaker 2: across the airport runway in Coraltar. It's hysterical. And then
- 8:13Speaker 2: when the plane comes, the gate goes down to stop everybody.
- 8:16Speaker 2: And then the plane finishes and the gate goes up
- 8:18Speaker 2: and everybody walks you cross. It's just oh, it was
- 8:22Speaker 2: most bizarre twenty four hours, honestly, but yeah, what a
- 8:25Speaker 2: what a what a whirl win Gibraltar, was it? So?
- 8:29Speaker 2: And it's a big rock, let me tell you. And
- 8:32Speaker 2: so it is a rock. It's mighty as a rock.
- 8:34Speaker 2: Which I don't know if you heard the theme song
- 8:35Speaker 2: from the World Youth Cup, but that was the song
- 8:37Speaker 2: Mighty as a Rock, and it is it is enormous.
- 8:41Speaker 2: Do yourself, as a favor Dribblers, go and google Gibraltar
- 8:44Speaker 2: and have a look. When you get a visual shot
- 8:46Speaker 2: of it, it's quite bizarre. And the roads all are
- 8:49Speaker 2: drilled through the rock. So when you're driving to the
- 8:52Speaker 2: other side, which is only about five by five k
- 8:54Speaker 2: I think Gibraltar as a place and you literally drive
- 8:58Speaker 2: through the rock and it's kind of treacherous, but it's cool. Well,
- 9:01Speaker 2: that's amazing. I'm going to say it was years ago
- 9:05Speaker 2: when I heard they were going to hold the World
- 9:06Speaker 2: Youth Cup there.
- 9:07Speaker 3: I was like, oh what what?
- 9:10Speaker 2: You don't who? Things sort of makes sense, but it
- 9:12Speaker 2: looks like it was a great competition and is in
- 9:15Speaker 2: a big indoor sort of stadium and the right team won.
- 9:19Speaker 3: How exciting?
- 9:20Speaker 2: Yes, which is very exciting. So tell us a little
- 9:23Speaker 2: bit more about that later. But yeah, it was and
- 9:26Speaker 2: it did present some logistical issues I think for teams
- 9:30Speaker 2: getting there. Hence there are a couple of teams it
- 9:32Speaker 2: didn't quite make it. Yeah, that was actually visa stuff.
- 9:35Speaker 2: We'll come back to that.
- 9:37Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 9:37Speaker 1: Now I want to say, so monkeys are there monkeys
- 9:41Speaker 1: in Gibraltar?
- 9:42Speaker 2: Well, this is so Carolyn apparently, But I was working,
- 9:45Speaker 2: so I saw nothing, right, those that traveled with me
- 9:48Speaker 2: saw everything. They had a great old time. Yes, so
- 9:51Speaker 2: you go up. You can go up cable car to
- 9:53Speaker 2: the top of the rock, or apparently you can walk up,
- 9:55Speaker 2: which takes about two and a half hours. There's a
- 9:57Speaker 2: great little YouTube.
- 10:00Speaker 1: And I would do yep, right and.
- 10:02Speaker 2: The first burger king, turn left at this street, turn
- 10:04Speaker 2: right at the yellow house, go up this hill. So
- 10:07Speaker 2: that would be us Kattup would state the bottom drinking
- 10:09Speaker 2: wine because she doesn't do hearts. I was, I'm a
- 10:13Speaker 2: bit the same. But yeah, apparently there's these monkeys. It's
- 10:16Speaker 2: a bit like Barley when you go to Ubud and
- 10:18Speaker 2: you go through the monkey forest forest. Yeah, don't take
- 10:21Speaker 2: your glasses, don't take your phone. They do jump on
- 10:25Speaker 2: you and grab you. But Rosie went up and she
- 10:27Speaker 2: didn't see one at all. So but then other people
- 10:30Speaker 2: we spoke to at the tournament were like, oh, yes,
- 10:32Speaker 2: we saw the monkeys. So they are there and.
- 10:35Speaker 1: It's just unique associate with Europe, is it monkeys?
- 10:38Speaker 2: So that it's the unique nature and they just sit
- 10:40Speaker 2: up on it. Like I said, the rock is enormous,
- 10:44Speaker 2: like even when you're driving in you can see like, oh,
- 10:47Speaker 2: there's Gibraltar. Is it like, you know, you go to
- 10:49Speaker 2: Ularu and you see it coming, Is it like same thing?
- 10:52Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 10:53Speaker 2: Yeah, but it's got the it's the it's got a
- 10:55Speaker 2: really unique angle to it.
- 10:57Speaker 1: Yeah, that is incredible, is it?
- 11:00Speaker 3: Like?
- 11:00Speaker 1: I had no As soon as I saw it, I went, well,
- 11:03Speaker 1: that's why this is a spiritual place. You know, you go, yeah, okay, yeah,
- 11:06Speaker 1: I totally get it. It's like this, it's it's absurdly
- 11:10Speaker 1: big and beautiful in just this flat, flat landscape. It's
- 11:14Speaker 1: just extraordinary.
- 11:16Speaker 2: The foot was don't actually do it now the photos
- 11:18Speaker 2: do it? Don't do it justice. And we got there
- 11:20Speaker 2: to Ularu and we're like walking around it and there's
- 11:22Speaker 2: one area where you're walk in and it's like a cathedral,
- 11:27Speaker 2: like a cabin. But then I was like, this is
- 11:29Speaker 2: like a cathedral. This is like walking into church. You
- 11:31Speaker 2: can just feel the spirituality of the place. It was.
- 11:33Speaker 2: It was unbelievable.
- 11:35Speaker 1: When I first went to Ularu, I've been doing some
- 11:38Speaker 1: work in one of the remote indigenous communities out there
- 11:42Speaker 1: and we finished a day early. So the people who
- 11:44Speaker 1: had brought me out there to do this this work said, well,
- 11:46Speaker 1: why don't we go into Yolara and then you can
- 11:49Speaker 1: see the rock before you fly out, and it's like, yeah, great,
- 11:51Speaker 1: thank you very much, because I hadn't seen it. And
- 11:53Speaker 1: we drove many hours as you do to get anywhere
- 11:56Speaker 1: out there, and arrived after dark and it wasn't until
- 12:00Speaker 1: like were we were right upon the rock when the
- 12:02Speaker 1: woman I was working, we said, oh, there it is
- 12:04Speaker 1: and it's like I couldn't see anything in the dark,
- 12:06Speaker 1: and then I realized, oh, hang on, I've got to
- 12:07Speaker 1: actually sit back here, and it just emerged from the
- 12:10Speaker 1: darkness as this this incredible shape. And so I didn't
- 12:13Speaker 1: see it until in real life in the daylight, until
- 12:16Speaker 1: the next day, but it had sort of snuck up
- 12:18Speaker 1: on us that night. Was the most extraordinary thing. Everyone
- 12:20Speaker 1: must go absolutely, I think. So sometimes that's hard. Should
- 12:31Speaker 1: we talk about the World Youth Cup because we should?
- 12:34Speaker 2: Well, you know, Australia hasn't won it since well it's
- 12:37Speaker 2: sixteen years years, six names.
- 12:40Speaker 1: And New Zealand. We're looking for the three peet right.
- 12:43Speaker 2: Yes, so Australia won in two thousand and nine, so
- 12:45Speaker 2: fifteen years, yeah, and that's courtesy of the COVID. Like,
- 12:49Speaker 2: so we haven't had it for eight years because of COVID.
- 12:51Speaker 2: The last one was right, so it was two thousand
- 12:54Speaker 2: and nine Australia one, twenty thirteen, twenty seventeen New Zealand
- 12:57Speaker 2: and then it's been an eight year break, so that's extraordinary.
- 13:01Speaker 2: And then New Zealand were going for the three peep
- 13:03Speaker 2: and you know, coming into you saw both teams play
- 13:07Speaker 2: and I saw bits and pieces on Netball Pass and
- 13:10Speaker 2: then sat and watched one of the games and I thought, gee,
- 13:12Speaker 2: the Australians looked slick because they had a few girls
- 13:15Speaker 2: who played in some court super netball and I think
- 13:18Speaker 2: that just they're just a step above those kids.
- 13:20Speaker 1: Now, can we talk about the year that Lily Graham
- 13:23Speaker 1: is having.
- 13:24Speaker 2: Well? She she I just said the Aussie stood out
- 13:28Speaker 2: and then Lily Graham was just another level. She was
- 13:31Speaker 2: extraordinary the whole tournament. Everyone was talking about her. She
- 13:35Speaker 2: just and what I really loved. And even in the
- 13:39Speaker 2: those that have watched on netball Pass, the either live
- 13:43Speaker 2: or can watch the replay of the Grand Final. So
- 13:45Speaker 2: she starts in goal attack, but as had happened a
- 13:48Speaker 2: couple of times throughout the tournament, she then moved back
- 13:50Speaker 2: to goal shooter and it's a revelation. Her timing in
- 13:54Speaker 2: goal shooter is just so good. And for all those
- 13:58Speaker 2: stallwarts of the game that loved the moving circle, Australia
- 14:02Speaker 2: had it. And what I loved is that we had
- 14:05Speaker 2: in the first half they had Live Wilkinson more of
- 14:07Speaker 2: a post up shooter and that worked and it kept
- 14:10Speaker 2: the game. You know, we're a bit slow off the blocks,
- 14:12Speaker 2: but we we sort of found our way. And then
- 14:15Speaker 2: they rotated at halftime and Lily Graham and Kayla Graham
- 14:18Speaker 2: from the Thunderbirds went in and wow and Hope White
- 14:22Speaker 2: at wing attack Giants in the center was Captain Sophie
- 14:25Speaker 2: Casey Thunderbirds. I mean, like it was we looked good, Liz, Yeah,
- 14:31Speaker 2: we looked really good. It was really interesting, like just
- 14:34Speaker 2: how slick the movement was, particularly through that mid court
- 14:36Speaker 2: and in and you're right, it was a slow start,
- 14:39Speaker 2: but as they got into it, that mid court really
- 14:41Speaker 2: fired as well. And then you know, there's so many
- 14:44Speaker 2: good stories. Lily Grahame's one. Scarlet Johnson is another one.
- 14:46Speaker 2: You know, she's come through that Black Swans sort of program,
- 14:49Speaker 2: that first Nation's program, and to see her be named
- 14:51Speaker 2: as vice captain I know that Ali Tucker Munroe, who's
- 14:54Speaker 2: our general manager of First Nations at Netball Australia, was
- 14:56Speaker 2: so emotional and so excited about that to see this
- 14:59Speaker 2: young First Nations kid come through and take up a
- 15:01Speaker 2: leadership role in that twenty ones and you know it's
- 15:04Speaker 2: a fifteen goal difference. That's a big difference in a
- 15:07Speaker 2: World Youth Cup final. Yeah, they broke it open in
- 15:10Speaker 2: the second half. And do you know the thing that
- 15:12Speaker 2: stands out for me? And I think we've spoken about
- 15:15Speaker 2: this number of times or you guys have a rod
- 15:17Speaker 2: when I've been on, but you know there's this great
- 15:19Speaker 2: concern about sun Corps Superneple and that you know we've
- 15:22Speaker 2: got too many bloody imports and what is the Australian future.
- 15:26Speaker 2: Well you just saw it. You just saw the Australian future.
- 15:29Speaker 2: And the great beauty of it is off that twelve,
- 15:31Speaker 2: six or seven of them are playing and getting caught
- 15:33Speaker 2: time in sun Corps Super Netple and that's our point
- 15:36Speaker 2: of difference. Our pathway is so good and the depth
- 15:41Speaker 2: within our pathway and our pathway are playing sun Corp
- 15:44Speaker 2: Super Neeple. It'd be great if we could get some
- 15:46Speaker 2: more in there and that could be the future of
- 15:49Speaker 2: you know, in the next year or so, but whatever.
- 15:51Speaker 2: But yeah, we looked slick. We looked fitter than any
- 15:55Speaker 2: other team at the competition. I thought we looked more
- 15:57Speaker 2: game smart than any team at the competition. I thought
- 16:00Speaker 2: our depth was better than any team at the competition.
- 16:03Speaker 2: Yeah we were. It was great well under Kathy Fellows
- 16:05Speaker 2: and the coaching staff and all the play.
- 16:07Speaker 1: It's And so, just if anyone doesn't know, so, Lily
- 16:12Speaker 1: Graham was Player of the Tournament at the Netball Youth
- 16:14Speaker 1: World Cup. She was also part of the Vixen's team
- 16:17Speaker 1: that won the sun Cops Super Netbawl Grand Final this year.
- 16:20Speaker 3: So what a year amazing?
- 16:23Speaker 1: Did you ever do Youth World Cup?
- 16:24Speaker 3: I did? I did.
- 16:25Speaker 2: I'll tell you about in a second. I just want
- 16:27Speaker 2: to ask Gordy about So that third and fourth playoff
- 16:30Speaker 2: was England and they beat South Africa pretty convincingly and
- 16:33Speaker 2: Jamaica finished in fifth. Gord you're just looking at you
- 16:36Speaker 2: would have seen it. I didn't see much of those
- 16:38Speaker 2: teams play, but you were there. Obviously they're the ones
- 16:42Speaker 2: who who you hope that the best of those teams
- 16:44Speaker 2: will step up into Super netball at some point, what's
- 16:48Speaker 2: their depth look like. Yeah, that's probably the biggest problem
- 16:51Speaker 2: that the countries. And I think South Africa on the
- 16:54Speaker 2: move list, I thought. I think Jamaica's the concern at
- 16:57Speaker 2: the moment is that you know, we know how good they're,
- 17:00Speaker 2: their top ones are and they're all playing out here
- 17:02Speaker 2: and they you know, they're going to go and give
- 17:04Speaker 2: World or Calm Games probably and the next World Cup
- 17:07Speaker 2: a really good crack. But what happens when they go
- 17:10Speaker 2: and Jamaica need to find a way to invest in
- 17:12Speaker 2: their pathway and I thought they were way off compared
- 17:15Speaker 2: to their top standards, So that was a bit concerning.
- 17:18Speaker 2: England's pathway is good and they've got some really exciting
- 17:22Speaker 2: talent coming through and tams And green sorry Sonya Mamclomber
- 17:25Speaker 2: was their head coach who played for the Swiss out
- 17:28Speaker 2: in SSN and tams And Greenway who played for the
- 17:31Speaker 2: Five Birds, so that was exciting. And South Africa I
- 17:34Speaker 2: thought were good. They had some really they're choosing some
- 17:37Speaker 2: really good talent and you can see that they're on
- 17:39Speaker 2: the move. So for me, you know, again I speak
- 17:42Speaker 2: about our pathway. I think Australia are doing excellent job.
- 17:45Speaker 2: New Zealand had some exciting players, but it's the likes
- 17:48Speaker 2: of Jamaica that probably need to work. And I tell you, actually,
- 17:52Speaker 2: I'll tell you who really impressed me was Malawi. Oh really,
- 17:56Speaker 2: I saw one of theirs. They won't day won a game,
- 18:00Speaker 2: might have been against Tonga or something like that by
- 18:03Speaker 2: a goal and just say, celebrations were unreal, but they
- 18:06Speaker 2: were good. Yeah, And we were watching them on day one.
- 18:10Speaker 2: So I had my coaching conference and we bought all
- 18:13Speaker 2: the coaches to watch this game and we were unsure.
- 18:15Speaker 2: It was Malawi and Trinidad and Tobago and we're really
- 18:19Speaker 2: unsure what we were going to expect. And it was
- 18:21Speaker 2: literally like watching like the Malawi senior team. So what's
- 18:25Speaker 2: really exciting is that over the last how many years
- 18:29Speaker 2: and the performances that we've seen of Malawi and when
- 18:32Speaker 2: m jcob Wender has been there or you know, I mean,
- 18:35Speaker 2: they've had a number of can't even think it off
- 18:36Speaker 2: the top of my head at the moment, but it's
- 18:38Speaker 2: their youth that are starting to see that and actually
- 18:40Speaker 2: have some belief and they're mimicking the styles of some
- 18:44Speaker 2: of the players that played for Malawi and Lawazi to Condoa.
- 18:49Speaker 2: I think that's her name, the Center for Malawi. She's
- 18:52Speaker 2: got a mini me coming through in the twenty ones
- 18:55Speaker 2: and oh god, she was so excited. I couldn't take
- 18:58Speaker 2: my eyes off her. I was just like watching everywhere
- 19:00Speaker 2: she weet. So they were really exciting. So it's cool.
- 19:05Speaker 2: I love World Youth Cup and I know we're not
- 19:06Speaker 2: probably going to have another one for a little while,
- 19:08Speaker 2: as World Netball have kind of claimed that we're on pause,
- 19:11Speaker 2: but there was a lot to like about it.
- 19:14Speaker 3: Yeah, it's great lot.
- 19:16Speaker 1: Sorry tell me about that. Why aren't we having another one?
- 19:18Speaker 1: What's going on there?
- 19:19Speaker 2: Well, basically World Netball have come out with their strategic
- 19:22Speaker 2: plan that speaks to a World Cup every two years,
- 19:27Speaker 2: so it's a change from the four to the two.
- 19:29Speaker 2: And with that being the case, and then in the
- 19:32Speaker 2: alternate is a number of internationals et cetera, et cetera,
- 19:35Speaker 2: So that kind of pauses the World Youth Cup at
- 19:39Speaker 2: the moment. Obviously there's still a lot to get through
- 19:42Speaker 2: and I know they've got the next number of competitions
- 19:45Speaker 2: out to tender as we speak. To see what you know,
- 19:48Speaker 2: whether the country's by it and whether or not that
- 19:50Speaker 2: strategic plan can come to fruition, but I think off
- 19:54Speaker 2: the back of that then they'll be able to position
- 19:56Speaker 2: their thinking. And I guess you know, the financial stability
- 19:59Speaker 2: of the sport around whether the World Youth Cup progresses
- 20:03Speaker 2: moving forward. Yeah, it'd be shamed to lose it though,
- 20:05Speaker 2: wouldn't it.
- 20:06Speaker 1: I've got to say I'm not hearing anything so far
- 20:08Speaker 1: that has me thinking this every two years World Cup
- 20:12Speaker 1: is going to be the greatest thing ever for the game.
- 20:14Speaker 1: I'm just I'm yet to see. You know, we talked
- 20:17Speaker 1: about it last week Gordy while you were still holidaying
- 20:20Speaker 1: that It's like, you know, so we had a couple
- 20:22Speaker 1: of nations who couldn't get their visas sorted in time
- 20:24Speaker 1: to get to their World Youth Cup. Clearly they're coming
- 20:27Speaker 1: from organizations, smaller organizations than netb All Australia has and
- 20:31Speaker 1: netble Australia is not huge. But it's like, are we
- 20:34Speaker 1: looking at creating more problems where the teams from the
- 20:38Speaker 1: from from the less well resourced organizations just can't get there.
- 20:42Speaker 1: So it's like, you know, are we creating more problems?
- 20:44Speaker 1: But that's that's my two cents.
- 20:46Speaker 2: Let me cut in Carolyn, because actually we had the
- 20:49Speaker 2: great privilege while we're away at the conference and Coaches
- 20:52Speaker 2: Conference in Gibraltar of having Dame Liz Nickel come in
- 20:55Speaker 2: and chat with us as well as the New World
- 20:58Speaker 2: Netball CEO for you own Harold. And actually that was
- 21:02Speaker 2: what they came to speak about, is World Nipples sort
- 21:05Speaker 2: of vision and why they're doing it. And I won't
- 21:08Speaker 2: explain this anywhere as well as they both did, but
- 21:12Speaker 2: I tell you onely over and it just really speaks
- 21:16Speaker 2: to whilst they are one hundred percent aware of the
- 21:20Speaker 2: potential difficulties that could be faced with their vision, what
- 21:24Speaker 2: they're basically saying is that we can't continue to sit
- 21:27Speaker 2: still and that World Nipple only has a couple of
- 21:31Speaker 2: assets and they have to find a way to make
- 21:35Speaker 2: sure that those assets become financially viable because their job
- 21:38Speaker 2: then is to be able to make income so that
- 21:41Speaker 2: they can then invest that income back into the world
- 21:44Speaker 2: development of World Nipble. And so that's their mantra, and
- 21:48Speaker 2: so they're very mindful of They don't want to cut
- 21:50Speaker 2: their nose off to spite their face, but they've got
- 21:52Speaker 2: to try and move and they know that, you know,
- 21:55Speaker 2: being able to sell something every two years to broadcast
- 21:59Speaker 2: as sponsors and etcetera is a much more viable approach
- 22:03Speaker 2: than saying once every four years. So they're hoping that
- 22:06Speaker 2: they might be able to hook on to some you know,
- 22:09Speaker 2: some potential buyers and broadcasters and big interest stakeholders that
- 22:15Speaker 2: can jump on something over an extended period of time
- 22:18Speaker 2: and become long term partners, as opposed to this sort
- 22:21Speaker 2: of I guess scenario that we've had historically, which is
- 22:24Speaker 2: once every four years, a partner jumps on and then
- 22:26Speaker 2: that's great and they get their bang for buck and
- 22:28Speaker 2: then they bugger off, you know. And that's one example
- 22:31Speaker 2: of it. And then of course lives from your perspective
- 22:33Speaker 2: is you know, with Netbull Australia the rights to be
- 22:36Speaker 2: able to use the World Cup as leverage in your
- 22:40Speaker 2: approach from a broadcasting perspective, your pitch isn't it? Is
- 22:43Speaker 2: that correct?
- 22:44Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 22:44Speaker 2: So, and absolutely I think all of us are trying
- 22:48Speaker 2: to figure out how do we monetize the sport so
- 22:50Speaker 2: that you can invest back into a grassroots but b
- 22:53Speaker 2: or so into those countries who don't quite have the
- 22:55Speaker 2: money that Australia or New Zealand or England might have
- 22:58Speaker 2: so so yeah, absolutely, and Liz Nicol and Fiona Harold
- 23:03Speaker 2: are out there trying to think about different ways to
- 23:05Speaker 2: do it, which is great or we should we should
- 23:08Speaker 2: absolutely explore all those ways. And you know Netball Australia
- 23:13Speaker 2: are currently exploring different ways on how you create new
- 23:15Speaker 2: assets and then how do you monetize them. So we're
- 23:17Speaker 2: all trying to do the same thing. So which is good, right,
- 23:20Speaker 2: you know with your governing bodies to sit still and
- 23:22Speaker 2: go oh it's all too hard.
- 23:23Speaker 1: Yeah, well I guess yeah, I could see that. And
- 23:25Speaker 1: you know, so Rugby has the British and Irish lines
- 23:28Speaker 1: as well as that, you know, and they've got the
- 23:29Speaker 1: Bledislige Cup as well as the World Cup and things,
- 23:31Speaker 1: and soccer obviously has the World Cup, but like the
- 23:34Speaker 1: FA Cup, and I don't know what the hell else
- 23:36Speaker 1: they have in soccer, but I could, yes, I see
- 23:39Speaker 1: exactly what you mean that if you do not have
- 23:41Speaker 1: that whole suite of assets. And looking at that Netball
- 23:44Speaker 1: Youth World Cup, it looked like a great little stadium,
- 23:47Speaker 1: but it was a little stadium. It was smaller than
- 23:49Speaker 1: what the Sunshine Case Lightning playing I think by the
- 23:52Speaker 1: looks of things from what I could say.
- 23:53Speaker 2: Yeah, it was, it was, it was tiny, but do
- 23:55Speaker 2: you know the thing is and this is again I
- 23:57Speaker 2: don't know whether it's just being there and seeing it
- 24:00Speaker 2: and seeing what it did for the people of Gibraltar.
- 24:02Speaker 2: Netball also has a responsibility. It needs to monetize and
- 24:05Speaker 2: it needs to sell the game, but you can sell
- 24:08Speaker 2: the game through streaming as well, and so the ability
- 24:11Speaker 2: to take this into Gibraltar all be it. It was
- 24:14Speaker 2: a logistical nightmare and very expensive, but what it's done
- 24:18Speaker 2: for Gibraltar, Netball Europe, Spain, like all of these countries,
- 24:23Speaker 2: Like I've just been working for Netball Europe, so I've
- 24:25Speaker 2: been given a bit of a heads up of what's
- 24:27Speaker 2: going on there. They are doing an amazing job and
- 24:30Speaker 2: the number of countries that are starting to connect and
- 24:33Speaker 2: engage is growing our sport. And so I think World
- 24:37Speaker 2: Netball's got this vision that we have also a responsibility
- 24:40Speaker 2: to grow the game and if taking tournaments to places
- 24:44Speaker 2: that would never ever be able to do it can
- 24:47Speaker 2: help do that. But we can continue to also monetize
- 24:51Speaker 2: in different ways, then maybe we're ticking the boxes. But yeah,
- 24:55Speaker 2: I don't know, and that's what the twenty one tournament does. Right,
- 24:57Speaker 2: So it's been in for Luderdale, that's been in botsw
- 25:00Speaker 2: When I played, it was SUV So yeah, and then
- 25:03Speaker 2: that's what it does. I got to say, this whole
- 25:05Speaker 2: tournament has just made me laugh about my experience back
- 25:09Speaker 2: in nineteen ninety two and it was sorry.
- 25:12Speaker 1: To win when the cooling.
- 25:17Speaker 2: It's all divisions in black and white, Susan dear, Yeah,
- 25:21Speaker 2: I don't know, you're so rude.
- 25:22Speaker 3: Get arout of it.
- 25:23Speaker 1: That would have been a nice pleated skirt era it was.
- 25:25Speaker 2: We don't get me wrong, I'm older than you. I
- 25:29Speaker 2: make these jobs.
- 25:30Speaker 1: I'm older than now, come on, behave it.
- 25:33Speaker 2: Move on on this call with the most silver hair.
- 25:36Speaker 2: So yeah, we played in nineteen ninety two and we
- 25:39Speaker 2: were in Suva, and that tournament showed me that you
- 25:43Speaker 2: never underestimate this like any team that's playing for New Zealand. Right.
- 25:46Speaker 2: So we actually had played gone to New Zealand and
- 25:48Speaker 2: played a lot of the junior teams in the couple
- 25:51Speaker 2: of years before when I was with the AIS, and
- 25:52Speaker 2: we used to win pretty sort of easily. So I
- 25:56Speaker 2: was like, oh god, the world, you could be fine. Anyway,
- 25:59Speaker 2: we lost that final, I think by four or five goals.
- 26:02Speaker 2: And that New Zealand team had Julie Julie Dawson. Yeah,
- 26:07Speaker 2: Julie Seymour. So she was Julie. She was a coach. Yeah,
- 26:11Speaker 2: she was a coach of the this one and her
- 26:14Speaker 2: daughter was in the team. Wasn't she correct? Yeah? Which
- 26:17Speaker 2: was amazing that I was reading about, Like, whoa god,
- 26:20Speaker 2: I find it hard enough.
- 26:21Speaker 1: Do they play the same position?
- 26:23Speaker 2: No, she's Is she a defender or she? Shoot? I
- 26:25Speaker 2: thought she was in the circle. I think she's a defender.
- 26:28Speaker 2: I'm just trying to. I know she was the daughter.
- 26:30Speaker 2: I can't picture her ride at the moment even though. Man,
- 26:32Speaker 2: but I find it hard enough coaching my daughter in
- 26:34Speaker 2: the under fourteens, but I try to catch your daughter.
- 26:38Speaker 2: Oh my god? Any who so so she Julie was
- 26:43Speaker 2: the captain of that team. They had a bunch of
- 26:46Speaker 2: really good players. Leslie Nicol, who went on to captain
- 26:48Speaker 2: the Silver Ferns, was in wing defense. Theresa Tayi who
- 26:51Speaker 2: went to plan for the Silver Ferns. I had a
- 26:53Speaker 2: number of players who went on to play senior and
- 26:56Speaker 2: we had like Liz Bonniolo, Sarah Stutter or Liz Tavana,
- 26:58Speaker 2: I should say Sarah Stutter in our team, and we've
- 27:02Speaker 2: played in Suva and we stayed at the University of
- 27:04Speaker 2: the South specific which sounds like it will be like
- 27:07Speaker 2: a bit idellic and fancy and everyone's got flowers in
- 27:10Speaker 2: the hair, which it was. But you're in the tropics, right,
- 27:13Speaker 2: so there's insects and other things. And one day I
- 27:16Speaker 2: remember one night we were in our rooms and there
- 27:19Speaker 2: was this blood curdling group of screens. I thought, oh
- 27:22Speaker 2: my god, there's a team being murdered. So we all
- 27:25Speaker 2: ran out and we ran up the stairs and it
- 27:27Speaker 2: was the England team and it was a cockroach about
- 27:29Speaker 2: the side of your head.
- 27:30Speaker 3: It was massive.
- 27:33Speaker 2: It had bawled them all up. It was like it
- 27:34Speaker 2: was looking at them and they were all against the
- 27:36Speaker 2: wall screaming, and I think it might have been trud
- 27:39Speaker 2: to Gardener, who was in our team. She's walked over
- 27:40Speaker 2: and picked it up and carried it outside and they
- 27:42Speaker 2: were like, oh my god, you're amazing. So she was
- 27:45Speaker 2: a bit Steve Irwin before there was Steve Irwin, frankly,
- 27:48Speaker 2: and then close the final, the lights went out halfway
- 27:51Speaker 2: through the final, so we were playing away and it's
- 27:54Speaker 2: all very tense, and there was lots of people around
- 27:57Speaker 2: and like really great Fiji atmosphere, like you know, music
- 28:00Speaker 2: and singing, and it was super hot. It was December,
- 28:04Speaker 2: and then about midway through the second quarter the lights
- 28:07Speaker 2: went out. Jill McIntosh was our coach. She like, we
- 28:09Speaker 2: all came in together and we all had to sort
- 28:11Speaker 2: of stay focused. But then all the other teams got
- 28:14Speaker 2: out and did We're doing a congo light around the
- 28:16Speaker 2: of the one part and New Zealand and another part,
- 28:22Speaker 2: so we're all trying to focus. The other teams have
- 28:24Speaker 2: finished their tournament. They didn't care, so they was just
- 28:26Speaker 2: all doing a conger line and laughing and giggling. And
- 28:28Speaker 2: then did you lights go out in one of your
- 28:31Speaker 2: Diamonds games? Yeah? So funnily enough, Jill was our coach
- 28:34Speaker 2: in two thousand and three at the World Cup in
- 28:37Speaker 2: Jamaica and the lights went out there as well. Games
- 28:41Speaker 2: sounds like it's it's a curse, it's followed us, but
- 28:43Speaker 2: then we'll lead up and do you know the funny
- 28:45Speaker 2: thing about that, Liz, though, is that everywhere Jill Matt goes,
- 28:48Speaker 2: she and she educates coaches and she always talks about
- 28:51Speaker 2: the what ifs, right, yeah, the what ifs, And she'll
- 28:55Speaker 2: sit down with the coaches and she'll say, now, you
- 28:57Speaker 2: always need to plan for the WATTI is Now what
- 28:59Speaker 2: if the lights go out? And I'm like, well, Jill,
- 29:02Speaker 2: you know it's happened to you twice. That's the only
- 29:03Speaker 2: reason you bring that up.
- 29:05Speaker 1: It will look to you for a solution.
- 29:06Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, man, Yeah, Jill since we was gone and
- 29:10Speaker 2: got her engineering degree so she can fix the bloody
- 29:13Speaker 2: lights when they go out. But there was like and
- 29:15Speaker 2: another thing that she would bring up in the water
- 29:17Speaker 2: is because it happened to us when we're at the
- 29:19Speaker 2: nineteen ninety eight coming off games in quite a lumpar.
- 29:23Speaker 2: We only just made one of our games, like we
- 29:25Speaker 2: just scraped it in because the bus driver got lost
- 29:27Speaker 2: and we weren't allowed to say to him because you
- 29:29Speaker 2: weren't allowed to have people lose face, like you have
- 29:31Speaker 2: to think about the cultural norms that you're operating. Is
- 29:34Speaker 2: we've had to Sydney drove us all around color and
- 29:36Speaker 2: we were just getting more and more like oh my god.
- 29:39Speaker 2: And it was a round game, thank god. But we
- 29:41Speaker 2: had to just get off the bus throw out like
- 29:43Speaker 2: we'll do all that strapping on the bus. We're trying
- 29:45Speaker 2: to warm up on the bar and it was only
- 29:47Speaker 2: a little twenty two seeted bars and then we got
- 29:50Speaker 2: around onto the court and played. So yeah, Jill always
- 29:53Speaker 2: is like before a World Cup would always spend time Okay,
- 29:56Speaker 2: what are your what ifs? And there was always a
- 29:58Speaker 2: what if about the lights going out? Nice to be
- 29:59Speaker 2: like Jill, the lights went out in nineteen ninety two.
- 30:02Speaker 2: They're never going to go out to get next minute
- 30:04Speaker 2: three of the lights go And that's the thing that's
- 30:07Speaker 2: the beauty of these tournaments. Just Carolyn, when you said sad,
- 30:10Speaker 2: maybe no World Youth Cup, because it's actually like there
- 30:13Speaker 2: were things that were not wrong in Gibraltar as well,
- 30:15Speaker 2: right like, and you just have to learn to adjust
- 30:17Speaker 2: and that educates the young ones that are likely to
- 30:20Speaker 2: go on and some of them play for the Diamonds
- 30:22Speaker 2: and so yeah, it's interesting.
- 30:24Speaker 1: But honestly, they having worked in a number of men's
- 30:26Speaker 1: professional sporting environments, I am trying to think of the
- 30:29Speaker 1: meltdowns they would have if anything like that went on,
- 30:32Speaker 1: like just the throwing up of the hands. It needs
- 30:34Speaker 1: to be needs to be rescheduled.
- 30:37Speaker 3: I think it's fantastic.
- 30:39Speaker 2: Get done.
- 30:40Speaker 3: We just do.
- 30:41Speaker 1: But also now, so here's a tip for Stacy Marinkovich.
- 30:45Speaker 1: I know she loves it when I give you tips.
- 30:47Speaker 2: In the podcast. You know what I've heard that days
- 30:49Speaker 2: and Marangovi sits on the sideline and goes, what would
- 30:51Speaker 2: Carolyn's wind?
- 30:52Speaker 1: Carolyn, I think she's going to go it's a good
- 30:55Speaker 1: mantra for life. But if anything goes wrong in future,
- 30:58Speaker 1: Liz and I can both fix washing machine. Means now
- 31:00Speaker 1: so we can get out there and change some light bulbs.
- 31:02Speaker 3: I'm pretty sure that is true. Yeah, that is Andy.
- 31:20Speaker 1: Gordy. One thing we've started doing because I found this
- 31:22Speaker 1: book in my office here and it's called Foolish Words,
- 31:25Speaker 1: The most Stupid Words Ever spoken. And I give a
- 31:27Speaker 1: quote each week from that. I'm not going to give
- 31:29Speaker 1: a quote from that each week because dribbler joe An
- 31:32Speaker 1: Coosta sent me a great little Instagram clip and it's
- 31:36Speaker 1: an influencer. I don't know who it is. She looks
- 31:39Speaker 1: like a Kardashian, but it's not a Kardashian, but she said,
- 31:42Speaker 1: and here's one for Jill Macintosh for potentially for Stacey
- 31:45Speaker 1: Mrinkeovich for anyone really, it's like, don't love your job?
- 31:50Speaker 1: Job your love?
- 31:52Speaker 2: What that does sound fatally pornographic? I must say job?
- 32:00Speaker 1: You know, there we go wise words, job you love
- 32:03Speaker 1: everyone and this this woman voluntarily put this on the
- 32:06Speaker 1: internet as clearly something she wanted people to see. But anyway,
- 32:10Speaker 1: thanks Joanne. I do I do very much appreciate that.
- 32:12Speaker 1: That was fun.
- 32:13Speaker 2: Those coming in, they're brilliant.
- 32:15Speaker 3: Yeah, they're great.
- 32:16Speaker 2: Hey, can I tell you something else that's bringing the
- 32:19Speaker 2: new leadership group for the Diamonds they got announced last
- 32:23Speaker 2: week post we always had podcasts and then something else happens.
- 32:27Speaker 2: Can you bring me up to speed? So Liz Watson
- 32:31Speaker 2: Liz captain and Kate Maloney is the vice captain. So
- 32:35Speaker 2: last couple of training camps, a bit of a process
- 32:37Speaker 2: has been gone through. Players voted. Then there was some
- 32:40Speaker 2: interviews that happened, and yea, Liz and Kate Maloney. I
- 32:44Speaker 2: think it's such a good a good leadership group. Okay,
- 32:47Speaker 2: so Kate, Liz was there, Kate steps in for Steph
- 32:50Speaker 2: Wood and Paige t Hadley as well, and right, yeah
- 32:54Speaker 2: stept knock on Wood bloody hell.
- 33:00Speaker 1: It's not here to get her name wrong. So yeah,
- 33:03Speaker 1: to get her name.
- 33:04Speaker 2: You are contractually bound to get her name wrong. So
- 33:06Speaker 2: for Kate Maloney's interview, did she just put a highlights
- 33:10Speaker 2: package together from the visions and her.
- 33:13Speaker 1: Speech at the end of the game. So you've taken
- 33:16Speaker 1: us through this before. But the players will self nominate
- 33:19Speaker 1: for a leadership position and then they have to go
- 33:22Speaker 1: through an interview process with the coaching team.
- 33:26Speaker 2: No, take it back a step. There is a vote,
- 33:28Speaker 2: so the Diamonds squad vote on who they think their
- 33:32Speaker 2: leaders should be, and there is a group who emerge
- 33:35Speaker 2: out of that, and then that group step through to
- 33:38Speaker 2: an interview.
- 33:40Speaker 1: So you say I wish to be considered for this,
- 33:42Speaker 1: and then your peers vote.
- 33:45Speaker 2: No, No, your peers just vote. So the group votes
- 33:47Speaker 2: and they say who they want. I mean, I think
- 33:49Speaker 2: the assumption is that everyone wishes to be considered for
- 33:52Speaker 2: it to a degree, and then the leaders from that
- 33:55Speaker 2: emerge and then I don't know if there's a couple
- 33:56Speaker 2: of different steps in between, but then essentially you get
- 33:58Speaker 2: a group that go through to an indu and then
- 34:01Speaker 2: the board ratifies that it's going to be Liz Watson
- 34:04Speaker 2: and Kate Maloney.
- 34:05Speaker 1: So I promise I do listen to you, Liz. I
- 34:08Speaker 1: know that just sounds like I.
- 34:10Speaker 3: Take no notice of me.
- 34:13Speaker 2: You know, it's interesting. I was while I was away
- 34:16Speaker 2: only for the first couple of weeks, where I did
- 34:18Speaker 2: listen to the podcast for the first couple of weeks,
- 34:21Speaker 2: and then it reminded me of Netbul. I was trying
- 34:23Speaker 2: to switch off, but I was having a bit of
- 34:25Speaker 2: a I know the diamond selection, like the depth of
- 34:30Speaker 2: our talent at the moment is so good, and I
- 34:34Speaker 2: was kind of looking at the mid court and I'm like,
- 34:36Speaker 2: I reckon the mid court is one of the toughest
- 34:40Speaker 2: to select, and we've just gone and named a captain
- 34:44Speaker 2: and a vice captain from the mid court, and not
- 34:47Speaker 2: this is a fade to complete, but it would almost
- 34:50Speaker 2: you would assume kind of give them a bit of
- 34:53Speaker 2: a guarantee that they're going to be selected kind of
- 34:56Speaker 2: on a game basis, right, Like, I know it's not
- 34:59Speaker 2: a guarantee, but you kind of have they named a
- 35:01Speaker 2: backup vice captain or a backup No, but the idea is,
- 35:05Speaker 2: And you know, I sat on the panel a little
- 35:08Speaker 2: while ago when Liz Watson and Steph Fretwell were appointed,
- 35:13Speaker 2: and you want the captain has to be one of
- 35:15Speaker 2: the first chosen, right, that's just all there is to it.
- 35:17Speaker 2: You want your captain on the court. The vice captain
- 35:19Speaker 2: doesn't have to be one of your first chosen, so
- 35:22Speaker 2: you can have a vice captain, and particularly with rolling subs,
- 35:24Speaker 2: I don't think that's anywhere near as important in the twelve.
- 35:29Speaker 2: I meant the twelve. That's what I'm saying. I feel yeah, no, no, no,
- 35:32Speaker 2: I don't mean love if your vice captain or captain,
- 35:34Speaker 2: you're on the in the twelve. So that's what I'm saying.
- 35:37Speaker 2: I was like, looking at the mid court, I'm like, oh,
- 35:39Speaker 2: do you I reckon the mid court is tough.
- 35:41Speaker 1: But they both be named in the twelve, haven't they.
- 35:45Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm long term vision. Yeah, Like I'm sort of thinking,
- 35:49Speaker 2: is this mapping for Calm Games and World Cups? Yeah, yeah,
- 35:57Speaker 2: got the vision. I was going to say, I'm sure
- 35:59Speaker 2: got taken into account. I wasn't part of this process,
- 36:01Speaker 2: but I assume there is something in the policies around
- 36:06Speaker 2: if you know, if you if you leaders aren't one
- 36:08Speaker 2: of the people who were selected, whether you have to
- 36:11Speaker 2: go through a process and find another leader too.
- 36:13Speaker 1: And otherwise it is it a twelve month thing generally
- 36:15Speaker 1: is it like.
- 36:16Speaker 2: Oh this has been it was They've been an ounce
- 36:18Speaker 2: through into until the World Cup in twenty twenty seven.
- 36:20Speaker 2: So it gives the team some svisibility. Yeah, I'm really
- 36:23Speaker 2: on board with that. I think once you name your captain,
- 36:26Speaker 2: it should be a long term thing and there should
- 36:27Speaker 2: be things that go into it along, like you have
- 36:30Speaker 2: to be a leader within the group, but you also
- 36:31Speaker 2: have to be able to represent the sport because you
- 36:33Speaker 2: are the face of the sport.
- 36:35Speaker 3: Really, so yeah, these.
- 36:36Speaker 2: It don't get me wrong, I don't have a problem
- 36:39Speaker 2: in the sense of the naming. I was just surprised
- 36:41Speaker 2: that too. Mid court two is I just was like,
- 36:44Speaker 2: oh my god, this is again looking at the depth
- 36:48Speaker 2: of the squad and I was like, oh, you know,
- 36:50Speaker 2: because there's this concept that I, you know, are we
- 36:53Speaker 2: going to like all Australian coaches do most times, as
- 36:56Speaker 2: they bring in the rookie and that you know, Plumber's
- 36:59Speaker 2: done it. I mean even Rinkovich has done it, you know,
- 37:02Speaker 2: and the rookie comes in from left to field. I'm like,
- 37:04Speaker 2: I reckon, the rookie is probably in the mid court.
- 37:06Speaker 2: In the mid court, did you look to It's like
- 37:08Speaker 2: who's a rookie who could come in and shape to hold.
- 37:10Speaker 2: I mean, I still see Georgie Horges as a rookie, right,
- 37:13Speaker 2: Like I know she's played one or two games or something,
- 37:15Speaker 2: but you know she's she's a bit of a rookie.
- 37:18Speaker 2: But you know you could bring a part menoring. I
- 37:20Speaker 2: still see Pat Mentor as a rookie. Like, these aren't storewarts.
- 37:23Speaker 2: They might have been in the squad, but they haven't.
- 37:25Speaker 2: They're not racking up the games. Yeah, the games is interesting, right, Yeah,
- 37:30Speaker 2: is a pretty for me. JLP would be a bit
- 37:32Speaker 2: of a sure thing because you know, she's what you
- 37:34Speaker 2: need in a World Cup against a New Zealand sol what.
- 37:37Speaker 2: So there's your three mid courts, so you've got one position. Interesting,
- 37:41Speaker 2: It is really interesting, right, and you've got to just
- 37:42Speaker 2: balance it up against who are the best leaders in
- 37:46Speaker 2: the group and who are the people who are going
- 37:47Speaker 2: to drive excellence? And I think, hands down, you know
- 37:51Speaker 2: those two are the ones who would drive excellence and
- 37:53Speaker 2: drive accountability and degree. I agree with that. I'm on board,
- 37:56Speaker 2: But I think you do Yeah, I think you do
- 37:57Speaker 2: raise a really interesting point. So and I think you know,
- 38:00Speaker 2: if you got to the point where one of them
- 38:02Speaker 2: was in the twelve. You'd just go through a process
- 38:04Speaker 2: and say, and I think if you're named as a
- 38:06Speaker 2: captain or vice captain, it shouldn't actually guarantee you selection
- 38:10Speaker 2: you don't take, You'll have to go through that. Like
- 38:11Speaker 2: I remember when I was a captain, I'd turn up
- 38:13Speaker 2: to selection feeling sick with nerves because you know, I
- 38:16Speaker 2: got dropped when I was in the under twelves and
- 38:17Speaker 2: it taught me a lesson to never.
- 38:19Speaker 1: I've an expected bitter lesson.
- 38:22Speaker 2: Oh, it was such a good lesson for me. I
- 38:24Speaker 2: thought I was a bloody shilling in the under twelve's
- 38:26Speaker 2: Hawk Spree netball team and there was no only zels
- 38:29Speaker 2: than the team that says. Anyway, look I got back
- 38:31Speaker 2: in because a girl heard herknee and I promise I
- 38:33Speaker 2: had nothing to do with it. But that's a whole
- 38:34Speaker 2: other story. But you always turn up feeling a little
- 38:37Speaker 2: bit sick about selection. And I'm sure that Cayden.
- 38:39Speaker 1: We no time now that. Yeah, but that player cohesion,
- 38:47Speaker 1: you know, this is in stark contrast to what's going
- 38:50Speaker 1: on across the ditch, isn't that This sort of gets
- 38:52Speaker 1: weirder and weirder what's going on over in New Zealand.
- 38:54Speaker 1: So quick update. New Zealand's just beat South Africa in
- 38:57Speaker 1: a three test series. They did get a clean sweep
- 39:00Speaker 1: the Tiny Jamison Trophy. They only won the last test
- 39:03Speaker 1: fifty seven to fifty six. But then Grace Wacky was
- 39:07Speaker 1: interviewed after the game and gave a direct statement to
- 39:12Speaker 1: Dame Noline Taroa saying we want you back.
- 39:14Speaker 2: She I thought she was.
- 39:16Speaker 1: I thought it was very good that she also made
- 39:18Speaker 1: specific reference to the coaches on Mccauselan Jerry her and said,
- 39:23Speaker 1: you guys have done a terrific job mcause and Jerry
- 39:26Speaker 1: has confirmed that she is stepping away now that the
- 39:29Speaker 1: South Africa series is done. We do not know who
- 39:31Speaker 1: the coach is for the Constellation Cup. Briannie Ankle was
- 39:34Speaker 1: on here last week and was very clear that Noline
- 39:36Speaker 1: Tarua has said to her that she definitely wants to
- 39:39Speaker 1: go back to that job. But it's chaos, it's it's
- 39:43Speaker 1: it's clearly not a unified player revolt against Noline Tarua.
- 39:48Speaker 1: It's clearly, you know, very interesting.
- 39:52Speaker 2: My jaw dropped when Grace, I mean, good honor. I
- 39:54Speaker 2: don't know she had the full support of the team
- 39:56Speaker 2: to do it. I mean that, you know, there's so
- 39:58Speaker 2: many stories circulation.
- 40:00Speaker 1: It was certainly embraced by a number of them as
- 40:01Speaker 1: soon as she'd come off from making that speech. So
- 40:04Speaker 1: she does her body language didn't indicate that the whole
- 40:07Speaker 1: rest of the team was going hang on, that's completely
- 40:10Speaker 1: out of bounds.
- 40:12Speaker 2: Yeah, I agree. Yeah, it's like a great gossiping novel,
- 40:16Speaker 2: isn't it. At the moment, just like you can't, you
- 40:18Speaker 2: can't stop watching it. I was away with a number
- 40:21Speaker 2: of coaches, as I said to you in Gibraltar, and
- 40:24Speaker 2: we all started talking about having a coach's association because
- 40:29Speaker 2: I just felt so much for Nolean, even not knowing
- 40:33Speaker 2: what was going on. I don't have any inside et cetera,
- 40:35Speaker 2: et cetera. I heard Brian's words, et cetera, but it
- 40:38Speaker 2: just felt like she had no representation and just got like,
- 40:42Speaker 2: you know, Netbul New Zealand, Well, we're just going to
- 40:44Speaker 2: support the players. Well no, you support everybody. You just
- 40:48Speaker 2: dump Noline in the bloody shit.
- 40:50Speaker 1: So this was my question. So the players have the
- 40:52Speaker 1: players Association and they act on behalf of all of
- 40:56Speaker 1: the of all of the players, but coaches do not
- 40:59Speaker 1: have a corresponding association, so they are it's just an
- 41:05Speaker 1: individual employment negotiation between them and whichever organization employs them.
- 41:11Speaker 2: Really interesting, Yeah, very interesting. Tracy Neville and I were
- 41:14Speaker 2: having some very long and deep discussions while we're away
- 41:18Speaker 2: in Gibraltar, and you know, I mean, she's had some
- 41:20Speaker 2: interesting circumstances which she may or may not go into
- 41:24Speaker 2: it some stage down the track for her, but the
- 41:26Speaker 2: reality of is that she could have really had the
- 41:29Speaker 2: support of a coach's association at the time. And you know,
- 41:32Speaker 2: like it's a long way back from when you have
- 41:34Speaker 2: a bad moment as a coach and it shouldn't define you,
- 41:38Speaker 2: nor should it define a player. But unfortunately for coaches,
- 41:42Speaker 2: you often the scapegoat of a problem. Sometimes you are
- 41:46Speaker 2: the fault and responsibility and other times you're not. And
- 41:48Speaker 2: so I just feel like this really highlighted this situation
- 41:53Speaker 2: with Nolein and you know, like Auntie Knowles as we
- 41:56Speaker 2: all call or whether she's our opposition or not, like
- 41:58Speaker 2: just really highlighted that maybe the sport needs another step
- 42:02Speaker 2: in down this direction. Well as an AFL Coaches Association,
- 42:06Speaker 2: isn't there, correct?
- 42:07Speaker 3: Yeah? Been around, Yeah, exactly.
- 42:11Speaker 2: It's been around for a while, but you got to
- 42:13Speaker 2: get your money from somewhere, right, so you need someone
- 42:15Speaker 2: to run it. So but the opportunity is maybe to
- 42:17Speaker 2: affiliate with someone like that until you get on your
- 42:20Speaker 2: own two feet. So I wonder whether we're you know,
- 42:23Speaker 2: it doesn't necessarily have to be because we're talking lesser numbers, right,
- 42:27Speaker 2: So it doesn't necessarily have to be a league, and
- 42:29Speaker 2: it might be something that will Nipball can lead on
- 42:32Speaker 2: as opposed to sort of like independently in Australia. So
- 42:37Speaker 2: certainly a discussion that we'll be having the Coach Advisory
- 42:40Speaker 2: Panel moving forward. Oh, I can imagine that would be
- 42:42Speaker 2: a very interesting discussion.
- 42:44Speaker 1: I have something very controversial I need your advice on please.
- 42:48Speaker 1: So yeah, So last night Pete and I stayed at
- 42:52Speaker 1: the Crown. It was a birthday gift that he got
- 42:53Speaker 1: from a bunch of people at the gym and we
- 42:56Speaker 1: since his birthday we've finally managed to go and do it.
- 43:00Speaker 1: I won't share all of the details. We did watch
- 43:02Speaker 1: the Broncos win, which was fantastic to sit in the
- 43:06Speaker 1: suite and watch that, but went to the buffet breakfast
- 43:09Speaker 1: this morning, which was sensational I'm still in a digestive
- 43:13Speaker 1: come from that. I saw two grown women put tomato
- 43:18Speaker 1: sauce on their scrambled eggs, and I want to know
- 43:21Speaker 1: at what age is tomato sauce assigned to sausage, sandwiches,
- 43:28Speaker 1: sausage rolls, and pies, because I reckon it's pretty if
- 43:32Speaker 1: you've finished high school one hundred percent, I believe that
- 43:35Speaker 1: your tomato sauce days have narrowed that it should be
- 43:39Speaker 1: on very few food groups, most of which you can
- 43:43Speaker 1: eat either at outside a hardware store or at a
- 43:46Speaker 1: game of sport. So I would be interested in your
- 43:49Speaker 1: views on this.
- 43:50Speaker 2: I think at the moment you get two digits in
- 43:53Speaker 2: your age, it's over. Oh interesting, yeah, And I mean
- 43:58Speaker 2: my kids hate me because I bothered tomato sauce earlier.
- 44:01Speaker 2: I was like, I'm not putting all this effort into
- 44:03Speaker 2: food to mashed potato or roast potato and nice food,
- 44:07Speaker 2: and all you do is just slathering the tomato sauce.
- 44:10Speaker 2: It's not happening. So they're allowed tomato sauce on like sausages,
- 44:13Speaker 2: sausage or pipe that sort of stuff, but that's about it.
- 44:16Speaker 2: So no, I think I'm a bit harsh but I
- 44:18Speaker 2: think once you've got two digits season, red and yellow
- 44:24Speaker 2: just don't work unless it's in the McDonald's sign. I think,
- 44:26Speaker 2: so we're just I'm not interested, like it doesn't want
- 44:29Speaker 2: about bread and yellow? Yep, that's yellow and yellow. That
- 44:32Speaker 2: can go. You know, what about sausage? What about mustard
- 44:35Speaker 2: and tomato sauce together?
- 44:36Speaker 3: Yeah, that's what I mean.
- 44:38Speaker 2: But that's on a sausage. We're talking on an egg.
- 44:41Speaker 3: Yeah, that's true, not on Okay, all right.
- 44:44Speaker 2: I've never I'm not a big tomato sauce fan. So
- 44:46Speaker 2: I'm the world's worst person that asked this question too.
- 44:49Speaker 2: I mean, sauce goes on a pie, right, that's the
- 44:51Speaker 2: Australian way, of course.
- 44:52Speaker 1: Our No, you're the best way to ask this question too,
- 44:55Speaker 1: because I was only looking for agreement with my point
- 44:57Speaker 1: of view. I actually wasn't looking for anyone to tell
- 45:00Speaker 1: me I was wrong. That's my least favorite thing.
- 45:02Speaker 2: But here's here's a question for you. I am not
- 45:05Speaker 2: a fan of the buffet unless it's breakfast, and likewise,
- 45:09Speaker 2: as a rule, I actually don't love a buffet breakfast
- 45:12Speaker 2: unless it's at a really fancy schmancy hotel because there's
- 45:16Speaker 2: nothing worse than stuff. It's it's there and he's dry.
- 45:18Speaker 2: We all an agreement on that, Like one hundred buffet dinner,
- 45:20Speaker 2: I'm just.
- 45:22Speaker 1: Yeah, I will only go to a buffet breakfast where
- 45:25Speaker 1: I know it's going to be great. And this one
- 45:28Speaker 1: was really good. It's like there's this full young chart section.
- 45:32Speaker 1: It was, it was great.
- 45:32Speaker 2: I'm going to be give you order your own eggs
- 45:34Speaker 2: to cool, to be cool because there's nothing. Okay, that's fine.
- 45:36Speaker 2: If you can do that, you're good. It's not epicurean,
- 45:39Speaker 2: is it is that? What is that? That? Yeah? Ah,
- 45:42Speaker 2: I mean that's a winning buffet. Let me take And.
- 45:43Speaker 1: It just seems like there's kilometers of food there too.
- 45:47Speaker 1: That it's every You go around a corner and here's
- 45:49Speaker 1: another section. Here's some Indian, here's some Asian.
- 45:51Speaker 2: Here's I love that everything, doesn't it?
- 45:55Speaker 1: Yeah, Here is a chocolate fountain. Here is an ice
- 45:58Speaker 1: cream gelato section with hones with like smarties and stuff
- 46:02Speaker 1: that you can get. I didn't go anywhere near that.
- 46:03Speaker 1: I don't breakfast this week, but last night I did
- 46:07Speaker 1: have a I had a meal there and I had
- 46:09Speaker 1: great beef and great HALLOOMI so I feel like that
- 46:12Speaker 1: might be one day when you two manage to get
- 46:15Speaker 1: yourselves to Sydney at the right time. We do have
- 46:18Speaker 1: a tipping comp lunch that I'm buying, and that this
- 46:21Speaker 1: might tick all of the boxes.
- 46:23Speaker 3: I reckon.
- 46:24Speaker 2: We'll both be there in the same time for about
- 46:26Speaker 2: the Neple World Cup in twenty twenty, So got time.
- 46:31Speaker 2: That's what I was thinking. You're gonna have to hold on.
- 46:33Speaker 1: Well, it depends how the tipping comp goes next year.
- 46:35Speaker 1: We might have to stack up a couple of lunches
- 46:37Speaker 1: and just go all right, we're throwing this all into
- 46:39Speaker 1: one here.
- 46:40Speaker 2: Well, in the olden days, Catherine and I sometimes will
- 46:42Speaker 2: go for lunch and we'd finish at dinner. So I
- 46:44Speaker 2: mean we can do.
- 46:44Speaker 3: That, all right.
- 46:45Speaker 2: Have you ever started at breakfast and gone to dinner. No,
- 46:48Speaker 2: that sounds like a challenge, though, have you. Well, when
- 46:50Speaker 2: you live in wa your lunch is my breakfast. So yes,
- 46:53Speaker 2: I have like you know, like when there's like AFL
- 46:56Speaker 2: grand Vinyl day.
- 46:57Speaker 3: Yes.
- 46:58Speaker 1: I once was with a group of friends at Manly,
- 47:00Speaker 1: at the Manly Ocean Beach House there, and we had
- 47:03Speaker 1: a long lunch and I had diamonds tickets for like
- 47:06Speaker 1: maybe it was a four or five o'clock to So
- 47:08Speaker 1: we got into taxi from Manly and went to Sydney
- 47:11Speaker 1: Olympic Park which was very expensive.
- 47:13Speaker 2: Almost like going to Gibraltar, yes, and then went straight
- 47:17Speaker 2: back in another taxi to the same restaurant, went for
- 47:20Speaker 2: caprioscars Please.
- 47:22Speaker 3: It was just a.
- 47:23Speaker 1: Little interlude in the day, but we went back. We
- 47:27Speaker 1: got our same table. They were happy to see us
- 47:29Speaker 1: because we had.
- 47:30Speaker 3: A good lunch. So that's outstanding good times.
- 47:33Speaker 1: Won't know how I go this week's test though, So
- 47:36Speaker 1: we are less than a week away from seeing the
- 47:38Speaker 1: Diamonds back on court against South Africa, then what are
- 47:43Speaker 1: we tipping?
- 47:44Speaker 2: Well? I like that South Africa really started to step
- 47:48Speaker 2: up against the Ferns. So often these teams, they'll play
- 47:52Speaker 2: Australia on New Zealand and the first Test is a
- 47:54Speaker 2: blowout whilst they get used to the intensity, and then
- 47:56Speaker 2: you see them improving the second and then by the
- 47:58Speaker 2: third one they're like, okay, we know what it's going
- 48:00Speaker 2: to be like and there's there's no South Africans have
- 48:03Speaker 2: been playing in Super Netball this year. That's right, isn't it?
- 48:06Speaker 2: So Visa Yeah, we didn't play a lot did She
- 48:09Speaker 2: didn't play, so you know they don't have that. They've
- 48:13Speaker 2: got a team for the players who are like, yeah, yeah,
- 48:14Speaker 2: we know what this is about. So I'm really excited
- 48:16Speaker 2: that they've found that rhythm and now they understand and
- 48:18Speaker 2: they're now going to play against Australia. I think it
- 48:21Speaker 2: will be I'm going to tip Australia, but I think
- 48:24Speaker 2: we'll see South Africa improve again and continue to improve
- 48:27Speaker 2: across the series. Agree it'll be Australia. But what I
- 48:30Speaker 2: do love is that they have played New Zealand first.
- 48:33Speaker 2: I think it's worked out well. I think Australia is
- 48:36Speaker 2: still a step ahead of New Zealand at the moment.
- 48:39Speaker 2: We'll wait to see if that comes to fruition to
- 48:41Speaker 2: the Constellation Cup. But I do like the fact, as
- 48:43Speaker 2: you say that South Africa have had three games, they're
- 48:46Speaker 2: a little bit more game hardened, and they're going to
- 48:48Speaker 2: have to be because the style they're now going to
- 48:50Speaker 2: come up again is going to be a lot more
- 48:53Speaker 2: contested netball. The one thing when you play against New
- 48:55Speaker 2: Zealand is that ability to work out how to make
- 48:58Speaker 2: you way through there. There's own in their space and
- 49:01Speaker 2: you don't. The game isn't as physically it's as taxing,
- 49:04Speaker 2: but I guess you don't have that physical body on
- 49:07Speaker 2: you the whole time, and so I think South Africa
- 49:10Speaker 2: will feel very different when that happens in Test one
- 49:13Speaker 2: against Australia. But I think the asses will get across
- 49:16Speaker 2: the lines.
- 49:16Speaker 1: So are you tipping three zip it?
- 49:19Speaker 2: I am yes, yeah it, Liz, Yeah, I'm contractually bound
- 49:23Speaker 2: to tip three zip.
- 49:24Speaker 1: I'm scarred from last year. Remember the Roses went over
- 49:26Speaker 1: and lost to New Zealand three zip and then came
- 49:29Speaker 1: over here and beat us to one. I think it
- 49:32Speaker 1: was sort of that whole thing that they had had
- 49:35Speaker 1: that time to warm up against a good opposition and
- 49:38Speaker 1: they didn't get the wins, but then they'd hit that
- 49:40Speaker 1: rhythm and we hadn't played the Test matches before that.
- 49:43Speaker 2: Yeah, and don't forget also too, if you have a
- 49:46Speaker 2: look at the squad that's been named for South Africa,
- 49:48Speaker 2: there's potentially some debutantes in there and some lesser capped athletes.
- 49:53Speaker 2: So you know, don't get me wrong, South Africa could
- 49:57Speaker 2: get a wing here. I'm not saying that's not possible.
- 50:00Speaker 2: I want to back the assize. Yeah, and Australia Australia
- 50:03Speaker 2: one that I'm going to pick you up because you
- 50:04Speaker 2: know I don't want to see it, Murden. But Australia
- 50:08Speaker 2: won that England Series two one. England won the middle
- 50:11Speaker 2: game in Sydney. Oh but what you what I do
- 50:15Speaker 2: right now? I'm thinking about it. No, I've got a
- 50:16Speaker 2: whole year ago we were all I think confident that
- 50:19Speaker 2: Australia will win the Constellation Cup and that did not happen.
- 50:23Speaker 1: Getting myself confused. So look, I won't tip because I
- 50:27Speaker 1: don't know my ass from my elbow, so I just
- 50:30Speaker 1: think everyone's better off if I don't tip. I'm going
- 50:33Speaker 1: to be really interested to watch elm Ray Vanderberg though,
- 50:35Speaker 1: because she's obviously coming over to play with the Tea birds,
- 50:39Speaker 1: I believe, so that will be exciting to watch.
- 50:43Speaker 2: M m.
- 50:44Speaker 1: No tips from me and you guys will stick with
- 50:46Speaker 1: the three nil and I will not be applying for
- 50:50Speaker 1: a stats job with Netball Australia based on my floored memory.
- 50:56Speaker 1: But yeah, be good to talk about that next week.
- 50:57Speaker 1: And Gordy, so good to have your.
- 51:00Speaker 2: Nice to be back gang. Well not really, I'd rather
- 51:03Speaker 2: still be gallivanting through Europe. But it is lovely. What
- 51:06Speaker 2: was your favorite place? What was your favorite place? What
- 51:08Speaker 2: did you love? Like most common question? I really loved Portugal,
- 51:11Speaker 2: but the crews that we did through Croatia it was
- 51:14Speaker 2: like a small boat cruise about thirty five people through
- 51:16Speaker 2: the islands was pretty ripping. And always love London when
- 51:20Speaker 2: I get there, it's just a vibe.
- 51:21Speaker 3: I love London.
- 51:23Speaker 2: It's a vibe. They need to be there for too long.
- 51:26Speaker 2: And it's bloody expensive and actually everyone's expensive this trained
- 51:29Speaker 2: dollar can we sort it out please? I'm poor. It's awful.
- 51:34Speaker 1: H It's the saddest story I've ever heard when people
- 51:37Speaker 1: come back from Europe and they don't have money anymore.
- 51:40Speaker 3: But do you know what?
- 51:41Speaker 2: Just quickly you know what happens though, is that you
- 51:43Speaker 2: start the trip and you're like how much is that? Like?
- 51:46Speaker 2: How much is that? And then about a week and
- 51:48Speaker 2: a half in you're like, sorry, did you say cocktail
- 51:50Speaker 2: for fourteen euro twenty eight dollars? No worries? I have six? Yeah,
- 51:54Speaker 2: Like whatever, totally if you're going over there to count
- 51:57Speaker 2: your dollars, you really can't go there. We realize that
- 51:59Speaker 2: when we started our trip around Australia, if we started
- 52:01Speaker 2: to think about how much money we'll spending on diesel.
- 52:03Speaker 2: You just turn around and go home when you're in Europe.
- 52:06Speaker 2: If you start going how many pounds? Oh so that
- 52:10Speaker 2: was a twelve dollars cup of coffee. You just can't
- 52:13Speaker 2: think about.
- 52:13Speaker 1: It, No, you cannot, and then you just get.
- 52:15Speaker 2: Home and your refinancing mortgage just fine. I'm down at
- 52:20Speaker 2: the holiday house, Liz. That's why I'm refinancing my own house.
- 52:24Speaker 2: Oh yeah, ab and being at your house you can't afford. Yeah, exactly.
- 52:28Speaker 1: We have no symp terrible, no, no sympathet I do
- 52:32Speaker 1: have to go though, because I've received seventeen messages from
- 52:35Speaker 1: my daughter while we've been recording. She's up at my
- 52:37Speaker 1: dad's place in Brisbane for a few days at the
- 52:39Speaker 1: school holidays and got her first phone on Thursday. So
- 52:44Speaker 1: and I said, here, you you can take this away
- 52:46Speaker 1: with you. It'll come back to me and then we'll
- 52:49Speaker 1: work on your contract for when you can have it
- 52:51Speaker 1: and when you can't. And she is now fully embraced
- 52:54Speaker 1: the If I send a message and Mum doesn't immediately respond,
- 52:57Speaker 1: what I'll follow up with is a lot of mum, mum, mum,
- 53:01Speaker 1: mum messages, so clearly she wants to know something that
- 53:07Speaker 1: only I can tell her, and she needs to know
- 53:10Speaker 1: it this exactly.
- 53:10Speaker 2: It'll be something like, no, she want money, time is
- 53:12Speaker 2: our flight? Yeah? No, my daughter does that to me
- 53:15Speaker 2: when she wants money, Mum, mum, mum. Because there is
- 53:17Speaker 2: it like the Spriggy app you can put money into
- 53:19Speaker 2: your kids account now. So I've been a netball shave
- 53:22Speaker 2: board meeting.
- 53:22Speaker 3: And I just turned her off.
- 53:23Speaker 2: I'm like, no, if you're not organized enough to get
- 53:25Speaker 2: your money before school, you're going to start what there
- 53:28Speaker 2: is to it.
- 53:29Speaker 1: So the Spriggy founder, his brother is a comedian I
- 53:31Speaker 1: work with by the name of Ray Badron, And it's
- 53:33Speaker 1: like there's these two brothers and one has set up
- 53:35Speaker 1: this extraordinarily complex financial organization and the other one makes
- 53:41Speaker 1: excellent jokes about pockets. If you haven't seen Ray Badron,
- 53:45Speaker 1: he's fabulous.
- 53:47Speaker 2: How funny? Who am you classic?
- 53:49Speaker 1: All right, Well, they think that's probably all we've got
- 53:51Speaker 1: time for. Look forward to talking to I don't know
- 53:54Speaker 1: who's going to be here next week. Who knows it
- 53:56Speaker 1: could be, Well, it's me, It's always me. But Gordy,
- 53:59Speaker 1: thank you for joining us. I'm Carolyn Swindell.
- 54:01Speaker 2: I'm Liz Ellis, I'm Sue Gordion.
- 54:04Speaker 1: Have a great week, dribblers.
- 54:05Speaker 3: Bye ye
- 54:11Speaker 2: H
