- 0:04Speaker 1: NFL Power Rankings is a production of the NFL in
- 0:07Speaker 1: partnership with I Heart Radio. What is happening here? Exactly right?
- 0:22Speaker 1: And what's up everybody? It is Power Rankings presented by Energizer.
- 0:25Speaker 1: I'm calling Wolf with Dan Hans is what is happening
- 0:27Speaker 1: with your rankings? I mean, Dan coming in hot, Connie,
- 0:32Speaker 1: it's week two. Accusatory right off the bat, I know,
- 0:35Speaker 1: I mean, honestly, I feel like we owe ourselves and
- 0:38Speaker 1: congratulations at this point because we did make it through
- 0:40Speaker 1: the first week of the season. We got through is good.
- 0:43Speaker 1: That first Sunday it was looming large. I feel like
- 0:46Speaker 1: it's a sort of time to to celebrate all the
- 0:49Speaker 1: summertime narratives that we were also sick of talking about,
- 0:52Speaker 1: and then last week we're sick of talking about how
- 0:54Speaker 1: the summertime narratives are about to disappear. Now we're talking
- 0:57Speaker 1: about reactions to Week one, and as it happens every year,
- 1:00Speaker 1: Connie is on Power Rankings, what it looks like during
- 1:04Speaker 1: week one looks very different. I think thirty of the
- 1:07Speaker 1: thirty two teams moved in the first week, and people say, oh,
- 1:11Speaker 1: bad job by you know, this is how it works.
- 1:14Speaker 1: A season takes shape and takes form, and I'm along
- 1:17Speaker 1: for the ride with everybody else. It must be really difficult, though,
- 1:20Speaker 1: because my brain basically melted watching week one. So to
- 1:23Speaker 1: not overreact, because we all overreact. We only have this
- 1:26Speaker 1: to work off of, so of course it took an
- 1:29Speaker 1: entire season of building up to this first week. But
- 1:33Speaker 1: we're all guilty by the way. After I was so
- 1:36Speaker 1: furious watching Nathaniel Hacking and Russell Wilson botched the end
- 1:39Speaker 1: of the Monday Night game. My exact tweet. I am
- 1:44Speaker 1: out on the Denver Broncos and it's like, well, you're
- 1:48Speaker 1: the powering guy, so yeah, hanging there, dude, you have to.
- 1:51Speaker 1: But I have doubts. Well, I feel like the power
- 1:54Speaker 1: rankings guy. You can separate it from yourself. I mean,
- 1:56Speaker 1: these are different people, different okay, so um, you know,
- 2:01Speaker 1: so many different things happened to feel like Mahomes is
- 2:04Speaker 1: probably gonna be okay. Aaron Rodgers still kind of tb
- 2:06Speaker 1: d the Giants. They're competitive. Gino Smith, he was dealing.
- 2:10Speaker 1: That was crazy. Soldier Field was underwater, and your previous
- 2:14Speaker 1: Niners ranking from week one also underwater. A lot of
- 2:19Speaker 1: heat for this one. Niners fans checking in people all
- 2:22Speaker 1: over the place. King Power, says Dan hansis, so does
- 2:25Speaker 1: this make the Niners the new thirty two team or
- 2:28Speaker 1: maybe the Bears and number three? Not how it works,
- 2:31Speaker 1: King Power, not gonna lie. I don't understand why people
- 2:34Speaker 1: don't understand that. You like people say, it's not the
- 2:38Speaker 1: power standings, it's the power rankings, and very good job
- 2:42Speaker 1: by the Bears. I don't want to take anything away
- 2:44Speaker 1: from the Bears. And I understand if I was a
- 2:47Speaker 1: Bears fan and some JIBRONI that does the Power rankings
- 2:50Speaker 1: had them at last and they had the Niners at three,
- 2:53Speaker 1: I'd probably be in their mentions too. So I'm not
- 2:55Speaker 1: mad at it. I get it. But also, please, this
- 2:58Speaker 1: is this is a perfect example not to overreact because
- 3:01Speaker 1: the forty Niners. Yes, we knew this is gonna be
- 3:04Speaker 1: a bit of a process with Trey Lance, and then
- 3:06Speaker 1: you put him in on the road in a monsoon
- 3:09Speaker 1: where the like you said, soldier fields underwater. How amouch
- 3:13Speaker 1: you really supposed to take out of that game? What
- 3:14Speaker 1: I took out of it was the Bears are ready
- 3:16Speaker 1: and they made big plays in the second half, and
- 3:18Speaker 1: I respect him for that, But if if you think
- 3:20Speaker 1: I'm gonna get off the Niners bandwagon and get on
- 3:23Speaker 1: the Bears bandwagon, because one game, I'm not there yet.
- 3:26Speaker 1: But I did show respect to the Bears that moved
- 3:28Speaker 1: him up. Obviously, this was a crazy game to watch,
- 3:31Speaker 1: the fact that it was raining so hard the paint
- 3:33Speaker 1: came off the field. I've never seen a game where
- 3:36Speaker 1: the broadcast had to have the black line. And I
- 3:41Speaker 1: did like the rain, you know. Obviously, it was miserable
- 3:45Speaker 1: all during leading up to the game, raining during the game,
- 3:47Speaker 1: and then it started to look like maybe it was
- 3:49Speaker 1: drying out, and then the rain was like, hey, I
- 3:51Speaker 1: just want to send one more message like I'm in
- 3:53Speaker 1: charge here, I'm Mother Nature, and just destroyed the field
- 3:57Speaker 1: in the last five minutes, which, oh, by the way,
- 4:00Speaker 1: contributed as well, because by the end of that game,
- 4:03Speaker 1: in the last half and fourth quarter, it doesn't matter.
- 4:04Speaker 1: It could have been Joe Montana and Jerry Rice. Nobody
- 4:07Speaker 1: was scoring points on that field. It was just a
- 4:09Speaker 1: wild game from start to finish. The Niners. It was sloppy.
- 4:12Speaker 1: I mean, the weather was sloppy, the play was sloppy,
- 4:14Speaker 1: but the Niners, their penalties were so twelve or nine
- 4:18Speaker 1: nine yards. I think the San Francisco defense they had
- 4:21Speaker 1: three different penalties on third down, and that gave the
- 4:24Speaker 1: Bears a fresh set of downs each time. And I
- 4:26Speaker 1: believe they scored a touchdown on each one of those drives.
- 4:30Speaker 1: So it was just kind of a mess. Deebo Samuel,
- 4:33Speaker 1: he fumbled on the opening drive. But what did you think?
- 4:36Speaker 1: First of all, we heard about Kyle Shannhan saying that
- 4:39Speaker 1: they would listen to trade offers from Dallas for Jimmy
- 4:42Speaker 1: g after week one. Obviously that changes now with the
- 4:46Speaker 1: timetable shifting for Dak Prescott. And we'll get to the
- 4:49Speaker 1: Cowboys and their issues in a second, But thoughts just
- 4:53Speaker 1: in general on trade lands. Can you take anything away
- 4:56Speaker 1: from that based on how the gate, the conditions of
- 4:59Speaker 1: the game ending out. Not really, but I will see say,
- 5:02Speaker 1: like what we saw from Lance in week one was
- 5:04Speaker 1: similar to what we saw in his limited duty uh
- 5:07Speaker 1: in two thousand twenty one, which is his legs and
- 5:10Speaker 1: his ability to move and scramble and pick up yards
- 5:13Speaker 1: that way that that's already ready to go. He's fully formed,
- 5:16Speaker 1: but he's a work in progress as a passer, and
- 5:18Speaker 1: I'm just not prepared to like, make any judgment where
- 5:21Speaker 1: he's at until we can get him on a dry turf.
- 5:24Speaker 1: It's just absurd and and they should They're wise not
- 5:27Speaker 1: to move. Jimmy g I don't care what's going on
- 5:29Speaker 1: with Dallas because it does. Like we said last week,
- 5:31Speaker 1: give San Francisco and out in case Trey Lance cannot
- 5:35Speaker 1: play the guitar. Yes, that is true. So the Niners,
- 5:38Speaker 1: they are no longer in the top five. But let's
- 5:41Speaker 1: talk about who made the top five new top five?
- 5:44Speaker 1: We do everybody, and we got two new teams and
- 5:47Speaker 1: maybe I don't know, we'll see. It's a work in progress.
- 5:50Speaker 1: So the Bills they remain unchanged at number one. They
- 5:53Speaker 1: nailed that. We all agree that I nailed having bills
- 5:57Speaker 1: after what we saw on Thursday night. Really great job.
- 5:59Speaker 1: You're not going to hear any flak from anyone on that.
- 6:02Speaker 1: Then you have the Chiefs they enter the top five,
- 6:05Speaker 1: chat from seven to two, so up five spots from
- 6:08Speaker 1: last week. The Bucks they move up a spot from
- 6:11Speaker 1: four to three. The Rams they fall back to after
- 6:15Speaker 1: that loss to the Bills. And then here come the
- 6:17Speaker 1: Chargers number five, up four from number nine last week.
- 6:22Speaker 1: We're going to talk about them. But the Chiefs at
- 6:25Speaker 1: number two, after everybody kind of was doubting this team
- 6:29Speaker 1: talking about how difficult the division is, and Patrick Mahomes
- 6:33Speaker 1: without Tyreek Kill and ken Andy Reid evolved this offense.
- 6:37Speaker 1: We'll find out. Well. I mean, look, they did a
- 6:39Speaker 1: great job against the Cardinals, that was dominant. The Cardinals
- 6:45Speaker 1: got run out of their own building there, And yeah,
- 6:48Speaker 1: I thought it was really interesting how Mahomes almost to
- 6:53Speaker 1: send a message to everyone you doubted me because Tyreek
- 6:56Speaker 1: Hills in Miami. Through the five touchdown passes, four of
- 6:59Speaker 1: those touchdown passes went to different receivers. Travis Kelsey was
- 7:03Speaker 1: still the here of this attack with eight and a
- 7:07Speaker 1: touch on nine targets. But I thought it was interesting,
- 7:09Speaker 1: Connie and something to watch going forward. Clyde Edwards Hilaire,
- 7:13Speaker 1: who was a first round pick the year or the
- 7:16Speaker 1: spring after they won the Super Bowl a couple of
- 7:18Speaker 1: years back, and then kind of disappointed, certainly disappointed fantasy
- 7:22Speaker 1: owners in his first two seasons. First overall in their
- 7:26Speaker 1: fantasy drafty I've been there. I took him in the
- 7:28Speaker 1: back of the first round. I believe his rookie year
- 7:30Speaker 1: because you heard the way he was explained coming out
- 7:33Speaker 1: of college was this dude's can't miss. You put him
- 7:35Speaker 1: in this offense, it's gonna be unfair, And I just
- 7:38Speaker 1: it just makes you think that now that Andy Reid
- 7:41Speaker 1: did go back to the lab and he's cooked up
- 7:43Speaker 1: this new offense, maybe this gives Edwards Hilaire a whole
- 7:46Speaker 1: new look. And I know his numbers don't like jump
- 7:49Speaker 1: off the page in week one, but if you watch
- 7:51Speaker 1: that game, you saw something different going on with Edwards Hilaire.
- 7:55Speaker 1: So I thought the whole offense looked excellent. Jud Smith
- 7:58Speaker 1: Schuster fit right in and they were an easy number
- 8:01Speaker 1: two this week. It's really interesting that Maha Homes targeted
- 8:05Speaker 1: nine different players in this game, and you think, I
- 8:09Speaker 1: don't know, maybe this potentially unlock something even more from
- 8:13Speaker 1: Mahomes not having Tyree Kill there and having to spread
- 8:16Speaker 1: the ball around all the different options that they have,
- 8:19Speaker 1: because four different players had a touchdown pass and two
- 8:22Speaker 1: two receiving touchdowns were from running back Clyde Edwards Hilaire,
- 8:26Speaker 1: So like, you're right when you say that we saw
- 8:28Speaker 1: something different from him. It was a super interesting, I
- 8:32Speaker 1: think decision for the Cardinals to blitz Mahomes. So much
- 8:37Speaker 1: like like, why what are what are we doing? I
- 8:39Speaker 1: don't know what the Cardinals are doing? And well, you know,
- 8:42Speaker 1: I don't know if we're not really digging on the
- 8:44Speaker 1: Cardinals right now. But they were not ready to play
- 8:46Speaker 1: in that game. They were not ready for what the
- 8:49Speaker 1: Chiefs were bringing. And uh, that should be a warning
- 8:52Speaker 1: sign because Arizona, that's how they looked at the end
- 8:54Speaker 1: of last year too against a superpower. Yeah so, uh,
- 8:57Speaker 1: not great for the Cardinals. The Chiefs, though they are
- 9:00Speaker 1: in the number two spots, bags is defense. It's showing
- 9:03Speaker 1: up early this year. It usually takes a little bit
- 9:05Speaker 1: of time to get ready. Um, so we'll have to
- 9:08Speaker 1: see what happens there. But you know, case you didn't
- 9:11Speaker 1: catch it, the Chiefs, they aren't the only a f
- 9:13Speaker 1: C US team in the top five. The Chargers joined
- 9:16Speaker 1: them at five. But some separation here with the rest
- 9:19Speaker 1: of the division, because you had all four a f
- 9:22Speaker 1: C West teams ranked in your top eleven last week,
- 9:27Speaker 1: and we're going to get to the Raiders and the
- 9:28Speaker 1: Broncos soon, but the Chargers, they didn't. Charger and Khalil Mack,
- 9:34Speaker 1: where have you been, hello, my friend? Yeah? Great? I
- 9:37Speaker 1: mean that was as good as debut as they could
- 9:39Speaker 1: have hoped for. They had six sacks and Derek Carr
- 9:42Speaker 1: who always seems a little shook when he's against uh,
- 9:45Speaker 1: the Chargers, and I think he's Joey Bosa last year
- 9:47Speaker 1: who made some comments in the media they could tell like,
- 9:51Speaker 1: you know, he's a guy that gets frazzled in the pocket,
- 9:53Speaker 1: and what happened. Six sacks, Mac has three of them
- 9:56Speaker 1: in general is a great It was a great star
- 9:58Speaker 1: for the Chargers. And by the way, I don't know
- 10:00Speaker 1: if I'm getting ahead of any promotional materials you have planned, Connie,
- 10:03Speaker 1: but Thursday night football is Chargers Chief Arrowhead, so this
- 10:07Speaker 1: is gonna be a great test for the Bolts. But
- 10:09Speaker 1: I thought, yeah, it was notable a that they got
- 10:12Speaker 1: big debuts from several new players, obviously Mac, but also
- 10:17Speaker 1: tighten Gerald Everett, who looked like a player in this offense.
- 10:20Speaker 1: It helps in Justin Herbert's throwing the ball. DeAndre Carter
- 10:23Speaker 1: stepped up when Keenan Allen went out with the hamstring. Uh.
- 10:26Speaker 1: So you you take a step back and you're like, Okay,
- 10:28Speaker 1: that was a game where they could have easily given
- 10:30Speaker 1: it away, and they've done that. A hundred times in
- 10:32Speaker 1: the PASTUS charges gunna charger. In this case, it didn't happen.
- 10:35Speaker 1: Well j C. Jackson play on Thursday. I would love
- 10:38Speaker 1: to see a full power Chargers go into Arrowhead and
- 10:42Speaker 1: make a huge statement. That's such a good game. It's
- 10:44Speaker 1: such a great match up this early. And Herbert, like Mahomes,
- 10:48Speaker 1: he targeted nine different players. He looked dialed in. He
- 10:50Speaker 1: had those three touchdowns. He really I mean, obviously he's
- 10:54Speaker 1: my m VP pick and like I didn't see anything
- 10:56Speaker 1: that game. Well, Mahomes is like you no, I'm gonna
- 10:58Speaker 1: win MVP. That's how it came out of Week one.
- 11:00Speaker 1: But her Herbert is just going to continue to the
- 11:03Speaker 1: people that think he's somewhat of a media creation, because
- 11:06Speaker 1: there's a segment of football Twitter that pushes back at
- 11:10Speaker 1: certain people in football Twitter saying you need to pay attention.
- 11:13Speaker 1: How specialist guy is just keep watching this year. Yeah,
- 11:16Speaker 1: and Khalil Max his sacks came at crucial times as
- 11:20Speaker 1: far as the defense goes, This was just like a
- 11:22Speaker 1: really solid game for them and the other team that
- 11:25Speaker 1: also plays at so far, the team that won the
- 11:27Speaker 1: Super Bowl. There but thoughts to the Bills to open
- 11:29Speaker 1: the season this year, they are now at number four
- 11:32Speaker 1: in the rankings. They couldn't run the ball. Matthew Stafford
- 11:36Speaker 1: was just NonStop harassed in this game. He was sacked
- 11:39Speaker 1: seven times with an elbow injury. That's already a concern
- 11:43Speaker 1: at this point. So now you have offensive line shuffling
- 11:47Speaker 1: going on with guys getting hurt. I mean, this is
- 11:51Speaker 1: this is something I'm concerned about, but you not so much.
- 11:54Speaker 1: I didn't really drop them too much. Yeah, I dropped
- 11:57Speaker 1: them to spots and earlier on Monday when I'm going
- 12:01Speaker 1: through the process, they were a little further down. And
- 12:03Speaker 1: then I gave it some fine thought at the end
- 12:05Speaker 1: of the night and I was just like, just relax.
- 12:07Speaker 1: I mean, the Rams are the Rams. They're gonna be fine.
- 12:12Speaker 1: Week one Thursday night opener is funky. It was like, listen,
- 12:16Speaker 1: we live in Los Angeles. Here in that building, it
- 12:19Speaker 1: was horrific. It was it felt like it was twenty
- 12:22Speaker 1: degrees at Sofi Stadium, and you could say, well, it
- 12:24Speaker 1: didn't bother the Bills, and you're right. The Bills showed
- 12:27Speaker 1: up ready to play and ready to make a statement themselves,
- 12:30Speaker 1: and they absolutely did that. And Sean McVey after the
- 12:33Speaker 1: game had said that he was humbled and we weren't
- 12:35Speaker 1: ready to go, and all that's right, And all that
- 12:38Speaker 1: really makes me think is that the Rams are too
- 12:41Speaker 1: good not to learn from that, say, Okay, this is
- 12:44Speaker 1: how a title defense starts. Oh oh, this is everybody's
- 12:47Speaker 1: coming for us now. And I would not be surprised
- 12:50Speaker 1: if you get a really good bounce back performance from
- 12:52Speaker 1: Los Angeles this week where they look great, look as
- 12:55Speaker 1: good as they did look bad last Thursday. And okay,
- 12:58Speaker 1: on the Rams are yeah, I mean Cooper Cop, he
- 13:00Speaker 1: still was Cooper Cop. He's still had a great kid. Yeah,
- 13:02Speaker 1: that was like the literally the only thing Cooper Cup,
- 13:04Speaker 1: Fantasy Owners, that's the only thing connected to the Rams
- 13:08Speaker 1: that people are cool. And also Ozzy Osbourne sung at halftime,
- 13:12Speaker 1: and they're like, Ozzie, all right, he's been through some stuff.
- 13:15Speaker 1: Uh and listen, they lowered the lowered him into the
- 13:18Speaker 1: stage and wheeled him off. So I don't know where
- 13:20Speaker 1: he's at physically, but he sounded great. He did the
- 13:23Speaker 1: rock was there. I do find rock physically is a specimen.
- 13:27Speaker 1: That's another good thing that happened connected to the Rams, truly,
- 13:32Speaker 1: But when you say that, you initially had the Rams lower,
- 13:36Speaker 1: and then you kind of like, really, that's what I
- 13:38Speaker 1: was just, don't that. Don't be that power rankings guy,
- 13:43Speaker 1: b V. Power rankings guy, And that's that's what you are,
- 13:46Speaker 1: the authority on the rankings. So the Rams hard. But hey,
- 13:54Speaker 1: the Rams former offensive coordinator, the new head coach of
- 13:57Speaker 1: the Vikings, Kevin O'Connell, he looked like he was making
- 14:00Speaker 1: some power moves presented by energizer. Do you know that
- 14:03Speaker 1: New York used to mercifully come after Alec Baldwin, who's
- 14:08Speaker 1: a New York gossip staple for decades, and they would
- 14:11Speaker 1: refer to him Capital T, Capital B, the blow viator. Yeah,
- 14:16Speaker 1: you can call me that too. That's a really cool
- 14:18Speaker 1: fun fact. I love that one. That was a nug
- 14:20Speaker 1: for you. Okay, so here we go. We have the
- 14:22Speaker 1: power moves of the week, and I got more nugs.
- 14:26Speaker 1: I know you do, I know you do. The Vikings
- 14:28Speaker 1: they were the biggest riser this week. They were up
- 14:30Speaker 1: thirteen spots to seven. The Giants and Bears they both
- 14:34Speaker 1: jumped seven spots to twenty one and twenty five, respectively,
- 14:38Speaker 1: and then the Dolphins, Seahawks and Commanders moved up six
- 14:40Speaker 1: spots to eighteen and twenty four. Let's stick in on
- 14:46Speaker 1: the vikings. I love the vikings. Can I just say
- 14:48Speaker 1: something Connie about that? If you if you see jumps
- 14:50Speaker 1: like that, like plus thirteen or minus twelve, the Cowboys
- 14:54Speaker 1: had a major drop this week. We'll get to Um,
- 14:57Speaker 1: that's okay early on in the power rankings, but if
- 14:59Speaker 1: you see me having to do that once we get
- 15:01Speaker 1: into the flow of the season, it means I'm doing
- 15:03Speaker 1: something wrong. So this step happens only in the beginning
- 15:05Speaker 1: of the year where you're really just trying to figure
- 15:07Speaker 1: out the lay of the land. So big jumps, big
- 15:10Speaker 1: drops don't typically happen unless the team suffers a catastrophic
- 15:13Speaker 1: injury or something otherwise outrageous happens. You won't see this
- 15:18Speaker 1: typically at what point in the season should that be concerned?
- 15:22Speaker 1: Exactly week five am, perfect Eastern time. That will not
- 15:27Speaker 1: happen anymore. All Right, the aforementioned vikings, let's talk about them.
- 15:30Speaker 1: Head coach Kevin O'Connell, the biggest power mover. I thought that. Listen,
- 15:36Speaker 1: he's uh, what's it? What are these? Um? When you
- 15:40Speaker 1: go to the gym? Uh? Like the power Yeah, like
- 15:44Speaker 1: the clean aren't they clean? There's like a cleaning one.
- 15:49Speaker 1: I don't know, Yeah, something clean, clean and jerk. Is
- 15:51Speaker 1: that a thing? I don't know anyway, what O'Connell was
- 15:54Speaker 1: doing it he called a really balanced game. K Yeah,
- 15:58Speaker 1: that's what That's what producer Drew just mentioned in my
- 16:01Speaker 1: ear so I think that's right. Um, So tell me
- 16:04Speaker 1: about the Vikings. What you thought about them? Awesome, awesome performance.
- 16:08Speaker 1: I saw in insane stat um this morning, which is
- 16:13Speaker 1: that this is only the second game in Kirk cousins
- 16:15Speaker 1: career and he's been playing a while. I think he
- 16:17Speaker 1: was a fourth round pick in two thousand twelve. The
- 16:19Speaker 1: second game in his career where the team he was
- 16:22Speaker 1: playing on allowed seven points or less. Mac Jones has
- 16:26Speaker 1: played one game and his to his second year in
- 16:28Speaker 1: the league, and that's already happened four times to him
- 16:30Speaker 1: and his rookie year, So it does get your mind racing.
- 16:33Speaker 1: I know Cousins is a punching bag um in general,
- 16:37Speaker 1: but like maybe he's never actually been with a truly
- 16:40Speaker 1: all around team. And I'm not ready to say that's
- 16:42Speaker 1: who the Vikings are, because I think they did a
- 16:44Speaker 1: great job on defense. But Green Bay's working something out
- 16:48Speaker 1: things out. But if the Vikings do perform at a
- 16:51Speaker 1: high level on defense, this offense is really good. And
- 16:55Speaker 1: its centers, of course, on Justin Jefferson, who he gained
- 16:59Speaker 1: four yards of separation on average on his receptions uh
- 17:03Speaker 1: this week and in general looks like the best wide
- 17:05Speaker 1: receiver on the planet. With all due RESECTI Cooper Cup,
- 17:09Speaker 1: but I think Jefferson has that Moss d n A
- 17:11Speaker 1: where he can just destroy a game at any time. Yeah,
- 17:14Speaker 1: the first half alone, he was six for two touchdowns. Like,
- 17:19Speaker 1: he absolutely lit it up. And when I was up
- 17:23Speaker 1: there at training camp and I talked to Justin Jefferson
- 17:26Speaker 1: a little bit, Oh my god, you've heard it's beautiful.
- 17:31Speaker 1: I'm not, it's so nice. It's fran. But he absolutely
- 17:38Speaker 1: his whole face lit up when I asked him about
- 17:41Speaker 1: having for the first time ever in his career and
- 17:44Speaker 1: all offensive head coach and offensive head coach, and he
- 17:48Speaker 1: just like talked about what a difference it would make.
- 17:51Speaker 1: And it's not an exaggeration when I say that that
- 17:55Speaker 1: team in general, when I was up there, like they
- 17:57Speaker 1: look lighter and looser and like they're having more fun,
- 18:01Speaker 1: and my god, you can see it on the field
- 18:03Speaker 1: as well. But I think that the Vikings defense. How
- 18:06Speaker 1: much of a difference do you think that will make
- 18:08Speaker 1: for this team in the long run, considering now that
- 18:10Speaker 1: they have Zadarius Smith who just like put it on. Yeah,
- 18:13Speaker 1: I again, I'm gonna, I'm gonna, I'm gonna push pause
- 18:17Speaker 1: or hold on. Getting two pumped about the defensive But
- 18:21Speaker 1: it did look really good and their offense put them
- 18:23Speaker 1: in a in a good situation by getting ahead early
- 18:26Speaker 1: in that game. But they also on the very first
- 18:29Speaker 1: play of the game, Patrick Peterson got toasted for what
- 18:32Speaker 1: would have been a touchdown, but Watson dropped the ball,
- 18:35Speaker 1: which is an issue for Green Bay UM. So maybe
- 18:38Speaker 1: the game is totally different. So let's I just want
- 18:40Speaker 1: to push pause on pause, I want to hit play.
- 18:45Speaker 1: I want to bang that play button on this offense,
- 18:47Speaker 1: and justin Jefferson, they are going to score a lot
- 18:49Speaker 1: of points. Into what you were saying, Kevin O'Connell. One
- 18:53Speaker 1: of the criticisms of Minnesota was their offensive game plan.
- 18:56Speaker 1: Despite the fact that they would put up big numbers
- 18:59Speaker 1: um with their core in place, it wasn't imaginative and
- 19:03Speaker 1: they were moving Jefferson all over the feel putting him
- 19:05Speaker 1: in motion and the Packers like, man, we don't know
- 19:07Speaker 1: how to handle this, and the Packers are one of
- 19:10Speaker 1: the better defenses in the league. I think that's gonna
- 19:12Speaker 1: be just the start of this. I think Jefferson could
- 19:14Speaker 1: I don't get crazy here, but in a game season,
- 19:19Speaker 1: I think he could flirt with two thousand yards receiving.
- 19:22Speaker 1: I think that's where we're at. Were you like entering
- 19:25Speaker 1: the m v P conversation with him. It's never happened
- 19:28Speaker 1: done receiver, but maybe if there was, Well, if it
- 19:30Speaker 1: wasn't Jerry Rice, it should never be anyone or Randy Moss,
- 19:33Speaker 1: but Jefferson should get votes at the very least. So
- 19:36Speaker 1: we're gonna give an m v P to Kirk Cousins though,
- 19:38Speaker 1: So this this feels like it's the situation in place,
- 19:42Speaker 1: like you're gonna give the m v P to Joe
- 19:44Speaker 1: Montana over Jerry Rice second time they've come up in
- 19:46Speaker 1: the show. But you're not going to give the m
- 19:48Speaker 1: v P to Kirk Cousins when you can give it
- 19:50Speaker 1: to Jokes alternate universe, though, how would kirk Cousins be
- 19:54Speaker 1: able to get it if there is one scenario that
- 19:57Speaker 1: he is being awarded the m v P at the
- 20:00Speaker 1: end of the season. What did he do fifty touchdowns?
- 20:04Speaker 1: Vikings go eighteen and oh in the regular season, even
- 20:08Speaker 1: though there's only seventeen perfect touchdown. So they're never going
- 20:14Speaker 1: to give Kark Cousins the m v P. Well, at
- 20:17Speaker 1: least right now, they can be happy with seven on
- 20:19Speaker 1: your power rank. Remember when he did the gender reveal
- 20:22Speaker 1: and he missed the target and it was like, that's
- 20:26Speaker 1: a quarterback. Leave Kirk alone. He had a great week.
- 20:29Speaker 1: One you'll never but I'm excited for that. Offen your
- 20:32Speaker 1: teams from six to ten. We have the Ravens at six,
- 20:35Speaker 1: the Vikings, like we just talked about at seven, Packers
- 20:37Speaker 1: at eight, Bengals at nine, and then Eagles at ten. Um,
- 20:42Speaker 1: how you like that little Eagles? Hello a j looks
- 20:48Speaker 1: real nice. Um, But yeah, we defense, I don't know,
- 20:52Speaker 1: but the offense looked awesome. Yeah, Nick Sirianni, great job
- 20:56Speaker 1: with that. Um. Maybe get Davante Smith involved. But that
- 21:00Speaker 1: was weird. That was a little strange. However, at least
- 21:02Speaker 1: scored thirty eight points, So yeah, Bakers can't be choosers. Fine,
- 21:06Speaker 1: but I think one of the things that struck me
- 21:08Speaker 1: from week one is the most bizarro game, and the
- 21:11Speaker 1: most bizarro performance was in that division, and it was
- 21:15Speaker 1: the Cowboys. The Cowboys. We talked about the biggest risers
- 21:19Speaker 1: with the Vikings, but there was a lot of power
- 21:21Speaker 1: failures out there too, Dan, a lot of people's power
- 21:24Speaker 1: just going out. Um. And that's what happened in Dallas.
- 21:28Speaker 1: The Cowboys at the top of the list, um down
- 21:31Speaker 1: twelve spots to number twenty seven after that disaster in Dallas. UM.
- 21:36Speaker 1: So we'll we'll get to that in a second. But
- 21:38Speaker 1: the other teams that fell, you have the Niners and
- 21:42Speaker 1: Broncos both falling eight spots down to eleven and sixteen, respectively.
- 21:47Speaker 1: And then the Cardinals, Panthers, and your poor Jets stumbled
- 21:51Speaker 1: six spots each toe and thirty two. So the Cowboys
- 21:56Speaker 1: they fell the hardest from seven from fifteen. And I mean,
- 22:03Speaker 1: I wasn't buying into the offseason hype because I was
- 22:06Speaker 1: worried about Ceedee Lamb being the number one guy. I
- 22:09Speaker 1: was worried about that offensive line and a lot of
- 22:11Speaker 1: different pieces, a lot of talent leaving the defense. But damn,
- 22:15Speaker 1: that was miserable. It was miserable, Connie, and I think
- 22:18Speaker 1: you know I wasn't buying on the Cowboys entering the season,
- 22:21Speaker 1: but I also was pushing back a little bit on
- 22:24Speaker 1: people not giving them a chance. So just to give
- 22:26Speaker 1: you an idea, I think I had them fifteen entering
- 22:28Speaker 1: Week one. I did, and um, had Dak just got
- 22:32Speaker 1: out of that game frustrated instead of with a busted thumb,
- 22:35Speaker 1: I probably would have had him around probably twenty two.
- 22:40Speaker 1: They plummet now because even with the news of the
- 22:43Speaker 1: reports on Tuesday that he might be out for just
- 22:46Speaker 1: four weeks, that also feels maybe overly aggressively. So it
- 22:50Speaker 1: happened when you rushed back Russell Wilson last year from
- 22:53Speaker 1: his finger injury, and he was not the same guy.
- 22:55Speaker 1: I feel it's got Cowboys written all. Was just thinking
- 22:58Speaker 1: about that because I remember when Russell Wilson got hurt.
- 23:01Speaker 1: That Thursday night came I think it was Pete Carroll
- 23:03Speaker 1: with someone on the team and they were like, Russell
- 23:05Speaker 1: Wilson is one of the great healers in the game,
- 23:07Speaker 1: And that was also said about Dak Prescott. He's a
- 23:10Speaker 1: really great healer. Like I don't know, is that something
- 23:12Speaker 1: that you're really good at healing? You don't want to
- 23:15Speaker 1: play quarterback in the NFL if your thumb is sev
- 23:18Speaker 1: your throwing hand. But yeah, this so the factor why
- 23:21Speaker 1: they plumb it twelve spots and are now in the
- 23:23Speaker 1: bottom six of the league. To me is yeah, Cooper
- 23:26Speaker 1: Rush is now the quarterback. And all those problems before
- 23:30Speaker 1: Dak hurt himself when the shack Barrett slapped his hand.
- 23:33Speaker 1: They looked really bad before then, and they weren't the
- 23:35Speaker 1: type of problems like oh what the Rams, for instance,
- 23:37Speaker 1: I could say bad week one, wash it out. No,
- 23:40Speaker 1: it looked like Ceedee Lamb was struggling to be that
- 23:43Speaker 1: number one guy with all the attention. They didn't have
- 23:46Speaker 1: someone else that they could trust and throw the ball to.
- 23:48Speaker 1: The running game wasn't really moving. The offensive line wasn't
- 23:51Speaker 1: doing their job. I just I, even at a four
- 23:54Speaker 1: week timetable, I think the Cowboys are in deep, deep
- 23:57Speaker 1: trouble and are going to be climbing uphill in your
- 24:00Speaker 1: Eagles again, everything coming up Eagles right now. That division
- 24:03Speaker 1: is wide open for them right now. Let's not get like,
- 24:06Speaker 1: you know, to just let's not pretend. Let's not pretend
- 24:09Speaker 1: because I know Eagles fans. You know, Wolf here, Shawn
- 24:13Speaker 1: Kelly behind the glass your husband Gonza. Everyone's like, we
- 24:16Speaker 1: don't want to we don't want to talk about it.
- 24:18Speaker 1: Like they're not talking publicly, but behind the scenes, Eagle
- 24:21Speaker 1: fans are like, you, guys, this is amazing. Not only
- 24:24Speaker 1: are we the most talented team and we're probably gonna
- 24:27Speaker 1: win a bunch of games. Uh, the Cowboys are done,
- 24:29Speaker 1: the Giants whatever, cute win bro on Sunday, But you're
- 24:33Speaker 1: the Giants and the Commanders have Carson Wentz. We walk
- 24:36Speaker 1: into the playoffs as the division champions. Like the Eagles
- 24:39Speaker 1: fans aren't telling you about this is Drew Christiansen, our producer.
- 24:42Speaker 1: Also yeah, but well okay, so the thing no more
- 24:50Speaker 1: and more about you are? We all are, and as
- 24:53Speaker 1: are the listeners. Um. But yeah, Cooper rushed for whether
- 24:57Speaker 1: it's four weeks, whether it's six week terrible, But it's
- 25:01Speaker 1: not gonna be his fault. Yeah, because he's Cooper rushed.
- 25:04Speaker 1: And if if Dak Prescott is out for six weeks,
- 25:08Speaker 1: that includes three division games and games against the Bengals
- 25:12Speaker 1: and the Rams. So it's not like the schedule is
- 25:15Speaker 1: helping them out in any way either. I think it
- 25:18Speaker 1: would be a minor what's the schedule. What are they gout?
- 25:21Speaker 1: Let's go through it real quick, alright, so let me
- 25:23Speaker 1: pull it up. I know they have three division games
- 25:25Speaker 1: and they're hoping that Dak Prescott is back for I
- 25:28Speaker 1: think it is the tenth against the Eagles. But they
- 25:32Speaker 1: have the Giants, they have Washington, and they definitely have
- 25:34Speaker 1: the Bengals in the Rams. Yeah, I mean there'll be
- 25:37Speaker 1: if they can get through this at two and three,
- 25:39Speaker 1: will be a miracle and then you could reset and
- 25:42Speaker 1: either come get the Eagles and the division or being
- 25:44Speaker 1: a wild card chase. But you have to be we
- 25:47Speaker 1: have to be honest here. There is a scenario here
- 25:49Speaker 1: where they're one and four, oh and five when Dad
- 25:51Speaker 1: gets back and then against the again things working out
- 25:54Speaker 1: for the Eagles. You get Dad super rusty with probably
- 25:58Speaker 1: far less than its just putting a lot on a
- 26:01Speaker 1: quarterback who's already got his back against the wall. Bad
- 26:04Speaker 1: times in Big D bad timing there. Um, and then
- 26:08Speaker 1: man talk about timing and clock management. We got to
- 26:11Speaker 1: go to the broncos Um. I mean now at and
- 26:16Speaker 1: oh my goodness, Nathaniel Hackett, you know I I was
- 26:21Speaker 1: watching his press conference and it just made my heart
- 26:24Speaker 1: sort of ache a little bit because I know that
- 26:26Speaker 1: he is going to just get crushed and he has
- 26:29Speaker 1: been getting This is why I tried to do this.
- 26:33Speaker 1: And I grew up. I grew up in New York.
- 26:36Speaker 1: I grew up in a cold town. I grew up
- 26:38Speaker 1: listening sports talk radio where the idea of humanity behind
- 26:41Speaker 1: the athlete wasn't recognized. Typically, you're either a bum or
- 26:45Speaker 1: you're a god. So I'm trying to be better about
- 26:48Speaker 1: that as I get older. Okay, I'm a father, sure
- 26:53Speaker 1: of you and Nathaniel Hackett. I try to think about it,
- 26:56Speaker 1: like I'm annoyed watching Nathaniel Hackett and the Broncos blow
- 27:00Speaker 1: that game. But I'm also thinking to myself that man, well,
- 27:04Speaker 1: he does have film. He waited his whole life. He
- 27:07Speaker 1: was waiting all life for Monday night, okay, and he's
- 27:11Speaker 1: on the sideline and his entire world is watching and
- 27:14Speaker 1: ruining him on. And that's how the game ends, with
- 27:17Speaker 1: him essentially setting his team on fire within decision, and
- 27:21Speaker 1: Russell Wilson, who, by the way, he has been playing
- 27:23Speaker 1: the league for a long time, didn't give him any
- 27:24Speaker 1: help either. Um the Manning cast, I don't know if
- 27:27Speaker 1: you caught that pet Manning nearly had a stroke he
- 27:30Speaker 1: was trying to reach through the screen to call a
- 27:32Speaker 1: time out for the Broncos. So, yeah, you fumble twice
- 27:36Speaker 1: at the one yard line and lose both fumbles. You
- 27:40Speaker 1: fail on another red zone attempt, another red zone trip,
- 27:43Speaker 1: and then you end the game with a ghastly clock
- 27:45Speaker 1: mis management to get to a sixty four yard field goal,
- 27:48Speaker 1: which you missed twice, by the way, because one was
- 27:51Speaker 1: waved away by the time out. It couldn't be worse.
- 27:53Speaker 1: It's a horrible start to the season for the Broncos,
- 27:55Speaker 1: and I feel like I sucker Connie because I I
- 27:59Speaker 1: made the mistake owning up number eight was too generous
- 28:03Speaker 1: entering the season for Denver, right, I needed to see
- 28:06Speaker 1: it first, And then I see a coach who looked
- 28:08Speaker 1: in over his head and a quarterback who couldn't make
- 28:10Speaker 1: the big play when it counted. So that's why they
- 28:14Speaker 1: dropped to where they are down to sixteen, which is
- 28:16Speaker 1: a fringe playoff look just week two, but come on
- 28:20Speaker 1: the clock management of it all. Like I lived through
- 28:23Speaker 1: Andy Reid in Philadelphia and that was a whole situation,
- 28:27Speaker 1: so I've seen that. I've felt that pain before. But
- 28:32Speaker 1: that moment Week one with Russell Wilson, They're back in Seattle,
- 28:36Speaker 1: and I mean, you're you're you're going to have him
- 28:40Speaker 1: watch from the sidelines and try to kick a sixty
- 28:45Speaker 1: four yard field goal. I mean, I just and then
- 28:49Speaker 1: he doubled down on it. Afterwards, Nathaniel Hacket did in
- 28:52Speaker 1: the postgame press felt like he had this is all new,
- 28:55Speaker 1: like he he then had to face the music right
- 28:57Speaker 1: down to like calling time outs, um to stop the
- 29:00Speaker 1: clock in a kneel down situation. I think he at
- 29:02Speaker 1: that point was in the weeds a little bit and
- 29:04Speaker 1: just trying to work his way through it. A lot
- 29:07Speaker 1: of people I think went too far and said things
- 29:09Speaker 1: like Nathaniel Hackett had the choice for sixty four yard
- 29:12Speaker 1: field or to trust is seven trillion dollar new quarterbacks. Now, No,
- 29:15Speaker 1: I don't think it's that. I think he got a
- 29:18Speaker 1: little bit, you know, like Derek Carr in the pocket.
- 29:20Speaker 1: He got a little shook and he botched it. And
- 29:23Speaker 1: I hope he learns from it and the Broncos get
- 29:25Speaker 1: better in these in this capacity. But it was it
- 29:27Speaker 1: was not good. It was unfortunate. Um. So that is
- 29:30Speaker 1: how that Week one game went down. Listen, that's all
- 29:35Speaker 1: I do. I drowning in it, the emotions of it all. Um,
- 29:42Speaker 1: Let's talk about your team's eleven through seventeen though, because
- 29:46Speaker 1: the Niners, as we already talked about at the top
- 29:49Speaker 1: of the show, they went from three last week to eleven.
- 29:53Speaker 1: We have the Saints at twelve, Dolphins at thirteen, Raiders
- 29:56Speaker 1: at fourteen, the Colts at fifteen, Broncos sixteen, and then
- 30:00Speaker 1: the Titans at seventeen. So this was a you know,
- 30:03Speaker 1: tough week for the a can it was nobody want
- 30:06Speaker 1: to gain? Can I do one more mia culpa? Because
- 30:08Speaker 1: I think I don't think I had the Brown slotted
- 30:10Speaker 1: or excuse me, the Bronco slotted in properly at eight
- 30:13Speaker 1: start the season because I went too much of a
- 30:15Speaker 1: projection there. Did the same thing with the Niners. In retrospect,
- 30:18Speaker 1: I should have had them near the bottom of the
- 30:21Speaker 1: top ten, but I had him at three because I
- 30:23Speaker 1: was buying stock. I gotta try to avoid buying stock
- 30:26Speaker 1: market cur seeing anything. Yet that's what we're doing. So
- 30:30Speaker 1: where they are now the Niners is not a reflection
- 30:32Speaker 1: of me now doubting them dropping eight spots. It's more like,
- 30:35Speaker 1: maybe this is kind of where they should have been
- 30:37Speaker 1: until we figure out what the trade Land situation is. Okay,
- 30:39Speaker 1: that's fair, and everyone who added you on Twitter is
- 30:42Speaker 1: feeling pretty good right now. Cults and Titans, they are
- 30:47Speaker 1: the highest ranked in the division at fifteen and seventeen.
- 30:51Speaker 1: But why did the Colts get the edge there over
- 30:55Speaker 1: the Titans. The Titans lost at home to the New
- 30:58Speaker 1: York Giants, so that's you gotta get dinged for that,
- 31:02Speaker 1: and that this is about as far as it goes.
- 31:05Speaker 1: Derrick Henry didn't look like Derrick Henry and week one
- 31:08Speaker 1: it's again early. Ryan Tannehill didn't look like a guy
- 31:11Speaker 1: that had a number one wide receiver anymore with a J.
- 31:15Speaker 1: Brown in Philadelphia now, So their inability to close out
- 31:19Speaker 1: that game, it's not a reason for panic, but it's
- 31:21Speaker 1: a reminder that even last year when they were the
- 31:23Speaker 1: number one seed, this is at a dominant superpower. They're
- 31:26Speaker 1: well coached, good team with solid players on it, but
- 31:30Speaker 1: they can get picked off if they get sloppy and
- 31:33Speaker 1: don't execute the way they did late in that game
- 31:35Speaker 1: against the Giants. As for the Colts, this still feels
- 31:39Speaker 1: like and it's been this way for years now, like
- 31:41Speaker 1: a toss up division. It's between these two teams. I
- 31:43Speaker 1: still kind of think that's where we're at. And uh,
- 31:47Speaker 1: you know, they're just very fortunate to get out a
- 31:50Speaker 1: Week one with a tie with the Texans, so they
- 31:52Speaker 1: need Let's put it this way, the AFC South did
- 31:54Speaker 1: not cover itself with glory and week one no, And
- 31:57Speaker 1: I understand the Colts. They haven't won a season opener
- 32:00Speaker 1: since I tweeted that. It hasn't been since Jonathan Taylor
- 32:05Speaker 1: was an eighth grade. They always start slow, but I
- 32:08Speaker 1: thought maybe this time would be a little bit different
- 32:10Speaker 1: with all of the changes they made in the off
- 32:12Speaker 1: season and they were playing the Texans. But at least
- 32:15Speaker 1: Matt Ryan and Michael Pittman they found that connection, So
- 32:18Speaker 1: that looks good. The offense just needs maybe a little
- 32:20Speaker 1: bit more time. They'll be better than they were with
- 32:24Speaker 1: Carson Wentz. But people throw out the fact that they
- 32:27Speaker 1: won nine of twelve with Carson Wentz in the middle
- 32:29Speaker 1: of last season. And is Matt Ryan gonna be a
- 32:31Speaker 1: huge upgrade? I think one thing that I got an
- 32:33Speaker 1: upgrade though the kicker. Again, we're gonna the human side
- 32:37Speaker 1: of this, and we know we love Rodrigo blanket Ship's
- 32:39Speaker 1: ability to play legos and and all that. But uh,
- 32:43Speaker 1: I don't trust that guy in. I trust his glasses,
- 32:45Speaker 1: but maybe not his leg so maybe he needs He's
- 32:48Speaker 1: probably not the order you want to go in when
- 32:52Speaker 1: you're talking about an NFL place kicker, like amazing glasses.
- 32:56Speaker 1: I trust your glasses, but your ability to kick it
- 32:59Speaker 1: through too, and his wheelie's too. Yeah, I know he's
- 33:02Speaker 1: got to see the uprights though, I get it. Um Okay,
- 33:04Speaker 1: Speaking of order, we got teams eighteen through two coming
- 33:08Speaker 1: in at eighteen Seahawks, nineteen Steelers, twenty Browns, twenty one Giants,
- 33:14Speaker 1: and then twenty two you have the Cardinals. So we're
- 33:17Speaker 1: gonna take a quick time out. We'll talk about all
- 33:20Speaker 1: of this the second half of your list when we
- 33:21Speaker 1: come back. Moving through dances is week two power rankings.
- 33:44Speaker 1: Here we got twenty three through the Patriots coming in
- 33:48Speaker 1: at twenty three. Their offense is still m I A
- 33:52Speaker 1: is four and oh lifetime against Belichick. Do you want
- 33:55Speaker 1: to got sign of the time. It's not the way
- 33:57Speaker 1: it used to be any more. Things have changed. Twenty
- 34:00Speaker 1: four you have the commanders taking command there the Bears
- 34:05Speaker 1: at five after the wild monsoon gain. You have at
- 34:09Speaker 1: twenty six the Lions, they just didn't have enough grid
- 34:13Speaker 1: the first week only two teams didn't move the lines
- 34:15Speaker 1: at one of us, just like, what do you want
- 34:16Speaker 1: me to do? Get to stop? And then the Cowboys
- 34:19Speaker 1: at seven we just outlined all of their issues. Um,
- 34:23Speaker 1: so we got the Bears and the Giants both moving
- 34:26Speaker 1: on up after those upsets. So who had the more
- 34:29Speaker 1: impressive win in your opinion? Gonna know they're gonna get
- 34:36Speaker 1: mad at me again because I'm not trying to denigrate
- 34:39Speaker 1: what they accomplished. Doesn't care about what they think riot
- 34:43Speaker 1: I don't because it was stupid. The weather was stupid
- 34:48Speaker 1: in Chicago and that made that game totally bizarre and
- 34:52Speaker 1: strange and kind of fun to watch. So again, great
- 34:56Speaker 1: job by the offense and Justin Fields for taking care
- 35:00Speaker 1: of business in the second half, getting those scoring drives,
- 35:03Speaker 1: taking advantage of the mistakes the Niners and Justin Fields
- 35:07Speaker 1: has elite playmaker ability. We see it. It's be starting
- 35:10Speaker 1: to become like a tradition now where he does that
- 35:14Speaker 1: crazy scramble move and throws across the field and he's
- 35:17Speaker 1: he's got it. It's just can you build around it,
- 35:20Speaker 1: so they jump up to and the Bears fans that
- 35:23Speaker 1: think they should be number three now because they beat
- 35:25Speaker 1: the number three, You just you don't get it. So
- 35:27Speaker 1: just sit down, enjoy your football, have a brat wurst.
- 35:31Speaker 1: The Giants had the more impressive win to me because
- 35:34Speaker 1: they were in Nashville. They were against the Titans team that,
- 35:38Speaker 1: like I said, I don't think they are true superpower,
- 35:40Speaker 1: but that's a good team. It's a well coached team.
- 35:42Speaker 1: The Giants fell behind and it was like, Okay, this
- 35:45Speaker 1: is gonna be a typical Giants opener, and all my
- 35:49Speaker 1: buddies on my text thread from home, we're gonna just
- 35:52Speaker 1: speak complaining while I'm trying to work on Sunday. But no,
- 35:55Speaker 1: like they came back. Sae Kwon Barkley looks like the
- 35:58Speaker 1: se kuanam which is a really exciting fund development for
- 36:02Speaker 1: football fans, but a Actuley Giants fans. And then yeah,
- 36:06Speaker 1: Brian Dable, listen, you have to understand, like I'm speaking
- 36:09Speaker 1: about w f a n earlier in the culture of
- 36:12Speaker 1: a sports fan in the Tri State area back east,
- 36:16Speaker 1: the Joe Judge experience. The Giants fans are not about that.
- 36:20Speaker 1: They were furious that this is how this Tiffany franchise
- 36:24Speaker 1: was being run. So to have Brian Dable enter the
- 36:26Speaker 1: building and then in the first game of his career,
- 36:29Speaker 1: pull an anti Hackett and say, hey, guys, trust me,
- 36:33Speaker 1: let's do this two point conversions, win this thing. And
- 36:36Speaker 1: then of course the football gods are gonna push uh
- 36:38Speaker 1: the big bone Randy Field go wide left because you
- 36:41Speaker 1: get rewarded for having onions in a spot like that.
- 36:44Speaker 1: Good job for the Giants, Brindable and their fans, which
- 36:47Speaker 1: have gone through a lot of band football in the
- 36:48Speaker 1: last Congrats to the Giants. You have a winning record
- 36:52Speaker 1: for the first time since It's just you know, the fan.
- 36:56Speaker 1: It's not good enough to have a cake walk to
- 36:59Speaker 1: the NFC East title. It's not good enough to have
- 37:01Speaker 1: a loaded roster. It's not good enough to have a
- 37:03Speaker 1: dramatic Super Bowl win over Tom Brady like three years ago.
- 37:07Speaker 1: You gotta stomp on the Giants. Yeah, you have a
- 37:12Speaker 1: prison underneath your football field. That was the vet, all right, whatever,
- 37:17Speaker 1: and that was kind of amazing. Please, actually, let's go
- 37:21Speaker 1: to best of the rest through thirty two. Prison not
- 37:25Speaker 1: a jail, no no, no, it was people worked there.
- 37:30Speaker 1: It was basically a court that they had down there. Oh,
- 37:33Speaker 1: how do you know, I don't know, tell us about
- 37:35Speaker 1: your teenage years. At twenty eight we got the Texans
- 37:38Speaker 1: and then the Baker Mayfield did not get his vengeance
- 37:45Speaker 1: on the Browns. At thirty we got the Falcons that yeah,
- 37:49Speaker 1: I mean poor Falcons. Then the Jaguars and Doug Peterson
- 37:54Speaker 1: making his debut in Jacksonville at thirty one, and your
- 37:58Speaker 1: Jets coming in for landing at Ding. I mean, it's
- 38:04Speaker 1: great job. Can I say that I'm if for football? Dan,
- 38:10Speaker 1: I'm warmed up now, I'm ready to go. Should we
- 38:11Speaker 1: start the show? Yeah? And the brand it's all good.
- 38:14Speaker 1: I like that the our bottom quadrant thirty two of
- 38:18Speaker 1: Power Rankings. All the teams either one outright or played
- 38:22Speaker 1: a really competitive game. And that's good. We don't want
- 38:25Speaker 1: a bunch of bottom feeders that are just getting blown up.
- 38:27Speaker 1: The only team that really disappointed, uh their fan base
- 38:31Speaker 1: where the Jets, My team, the team I grew up
- 38:33Speaker 1: with that I got sentenced to life by a different
- 38:37Speaker 1: type of court to be a fan of. And uh,
- 38:40Speaker 1: I'm just frustrated because the offense. I know, Joe Flacco
- 38:44Speaker 1: is the quarterback in their limitations. But that's not how
- 38:47Speaker 1: we were being sold as fans heading into Week one.
- 38:51Speaker 1: We're being sold that this is an improved team on
- 38:53Speaker 1: both sides of the ball, and the Jets were gonna
- 38:55Speaker 1: be competitive and frisky this year, and then you got again.
- 39:01Speaker 1: People go into MetLife Stadium. My dad was one of those.
- 39:04Speaker 1: Have you talked? They got they got nothing, They got
- 39:08Speaker 1: a blowout loss and rained on for three and a
- 39:11Speaker 1: half hours. And then I have to listen to Robert Sala,
- 39:14Speaker 1: who I like the human side though the human side
- 39:19Speaker 1: recedes great, Robert, receipts great? How about results? Because this
- 39:27Speaker 1: isn't enough. I mean, it's enough, you know what. We
- 39:30Speaker 1: need to move on. We have thirty two teams we
- 39:32Speaker 1: to talk about. But receipts are fine, but results are better.
- 39:35Speaker 1: It's true. That's it. That's that's my that's my response
- 39:38Speaker 1: to my team's head coach. Well, I think a fan
- 39:41Speaker 1: base that was equally as frustrated as Jets fans probably think, well,
- 39:46Speaker 1: the Bengals were like that for a very long time. Yeah,
- 39:49Speaker 1: I guess what they got results they did not talking
- 39:52Speaker 1: about receipts. We're not talking about practice, talking about results.
- 39:58Speaker 1: Dan let's put a minute on the clock. Do the
- 40:03Speaker 1: best of the rest. We're gonna start with the Bengals.
- 40:05Speaker 1: They fall from five to nine, and um dan I
- 40:09Speaker 1: was told that the offensive line would be better. Yes,
- 40:12Speaker 1: it's a reminder to all of us that when a
- 40:14Speaker 1: team does spend a lot of money in free agency
- 40:17Speaker 1: or makes draft picks, and then you go through the
- 40:19Speaker 1: summer with your narratives in place, and oh, the offensive
- 40:23Speaker 1: line is fixed. No, none of the especially offensive line.
- 40:25Speaker 1: You need to see it in motion. And that also
- 40:27Speaker 1: doesn't mean that they're they're cooked on their offensive line
- 40:29Speaker 1: and they're not better, but it is a work in
- 40:31Speaker 1: progress and it was not a great start. Burrow didn't
- 40:33Speaker 1: have a good game, but the line did not look
- 40:35Speaker 1: any better. That's concerning. Yeah, and next gen stats. They
- 40:39Speaker 1: pointed out that the Steelers got after Joe Burrow and
- 40:41Speaker 1: didn't even need extra rushers to do it. They pressured
- 40:45Speaker 1: Burrow twenty times without blitzing for pressure rate of thirty
- 40:49Speaker 1: seven point. I mean, it was not good at all.
- 40:53Speaker 1: A lot. Joe Burrow has a reconstructed knee from his
- 40:57Speaker 1: rookie season. When the offensive line couldn't protect him, he
- 41:00Speaker 1: limped off the field at the Super Bowl because he
- 41:03Speaker 1: didn't get protected their floor with disaster. If this is
- 41:05Speaker 1: gonna keep going on, I don't like it. I don't
- 41:07Speaker 1: like it at all. Um. I also don't like no
- 41:09Speaker 1: love for the Falcons. How they played a great three quarters.
- 41:14Speaker 1: It was it was good for three full you know
- 41:17Speaker 1: what I see where you're coming from this. Yes, I
- 41:18Speaker 1: could have been a nice guy and giving them like
- 41:22Speaker 1: a pat on the head and moved them up a
- 41:23Speaker 1: few spots. But ultimately, Connie, that was a hideous collapse.
- 41:29Speaker 1: They gotta win that game. They have to. They had
- 41:32Speaker 1: lead with less than thirteen minutes to play, and then
- 41:36Speaker 1: they surrender three straight scoring drives to Jamis Winston, who
- 41:39Speaker 1: had done nothing before that point. Marcus Mariotte had two
- 41:42Speaker 1: key fumbles in the second half, one deep in the
- 41:45Speaker 1: Saints territory and another at an opportunity very late in
- 41:49Speaker 1: the game where they could assaulted the game away and
- 41:50Speaker 1: kneel done. It was just like, I'm not bringing up
- 41:53Speaker 1: you know the game, you don't do it, don't do it.
- 41:56Speaker 1: But I'm just saying, like Falcons fans don't need anything
- 41:59Speaker 1: like this, especially against the Saints. They hate each other,
- 42:03Speaker 1: so that's just a bummer one. I wanted them to
- 42:05Speaker 1: win that game. That would have been a nice step,
- 42:07Speaker 1: and they could not get it done. I don't know
- 42:09Speaker 1: what it is NFL research dropping this nugget that Atlanta
- 42:11Speaker 1: has blown three fifteen plus point lead since and the
- 42:15Speaker 1: rest of the league has blown to plus leads combined.
- 42:18Speaker 1: That's are you counting? You know the thing? I'm not.
- 42:22Speaker 1: We're not talking about that. We included in that stat
- 42:24Speaker 1: I gotta ask NFL research pros. It's included in the
- 42:27Speaker 1: stat Then you did bring up the thing not my name. Hey,
- 42:49Speaker 1: all right, I got one more question for you. Put
- 42:51Speaker 1: a minute up there. Hardest team to figure out after
- 42:53Speaker 1: Week one? We know it's not the Jets. Yeah, the Steelers.
- 42:59Speaker 1: The Steelers. Steelers are the hardest team to figure out,
- 43:02Speaker 1: because yes, they got a dramatic win over Cincinnati in Cincinnati,
- 43:07Speaker 1: a statement win, if you will, a bit of a
- 43:10Speaker 1: miracle because you needed a block Pa t at the
- 43:12Speaker 1: end of regulation and then another botch snap for Cincinnati
- 43:15Speaker 1: and overtime to make it happen. But you give him credit.
- 43:19Speaker 1: Big win, huge win. They're dancing in the locker room.
- 43:22Speaker 1: So it's Tomlin. It's fun. T J. Watt tears his pack.
- 43:26Speaker 1: We don't know how serious, if he's done for the
- 43:27Speaker 1: year or just out for extended period. Terrible setback for
- 43:31Speaker 1: that defense. And then the offense less than three hundred
- 43:34Speaker 1: yards of total offense and it looked like an offense
- 43:37Speaker 1: being run by Mitch ter Biski. So while you have
- 43:39Speaker 1: a great start, that's a concern the offense and know what,
- 43:43Speaker 1: it could be devastating to them. Yeah, that's that's gonna
- 43:46Speaker 1: be tough to overcome. Another bad offensive. Patrick though he
- 43:50Speaker 1: did look good. Outstanding defensive performance, probably the best of
- 43:54Speaker 1: his career. So that was something to They won't go
- 43:56Speaker 1: in the tank on defense, but what makes them special?
- 43:58Speaker 1: That's true. Alright, So um, good stuff there, but thank you,
- 44:02Speaker 1: good stuff by you as well. That's my that's my
- 44:05Speaker 1: feedback to you. But I am not the only one
- 44:07Speaker 1: giving feedback that on some t shirts. Oh no we're not.
- 44:10Speaker 1: It's time by the power. Um. We love hearing your tweets.
- 44:17Speaker 1: Josh says, how could you put insert team here at
- 44:21Speaker 1: insert position here? You're such an insert insult to intelligence here,
- 44:25Speaker 1: Dan Josh Brank has got it right. That's typically it works,
- 44:28Speaker 1: and that's why people don't realize that as the years
- 44:31Speaker 1: go on, when I do this, the tweets and the
- 44:34Speaker 1: fire that comes at me, I'm more and more impervious
- 44:37Speaker 1: to it because I've seen it all. It's all kind
- 44:40Speaker 1: of one note to me. Be better. That's another one
- 44:43Speaker 1: when I get told to be better? How about you
- 44:45Speaker 1: be better? Insulters. I love that because I think it's
- 44:49Speaker 1: a challenge for everyone out there, like, maybe try and
- 44:52Speaker 1: be more creative. At some point, we are calloused to
- 44:56Speaker 1: what you have to say. We put up a protective layer. Um,
- 44:59Speaker 1: maybe this one will offend. Filthy Beast says that she
- 45:04Speaker 1: you should be number one. They were far more impressive
- 45:07Speaker 1: than the Bills. The Bills were incredible, are awesome. In
- 45:10Speaker 1: week one. You know you heard it earlier on today's episode,
- 45:13Speaker 1: Connie and I were chopping it up. But now the Bills,
- 45:16Speaker 1: who entered Power the Power Ranking season at number one,
- 45:20Speaker 1: went on the road and embarrassed the defending champions there.
- 45:25Speaker 1: That was never a thought to put the Chiefs at
- 45:28Speaker 1: number one, But there was also never a thought to
- 45:29Speaker 1: put them anywhere else but number two. They're in a
- 45:32Speaker 1: really good spot right now, but they can always work
- 45:34Speaker 1: their way up to number one. Yeah, the Bills can
- 45:37Speaker 1: lose this week and the Chiefs can spank the Chargers
- 45:40Speaker 1: and that very likely would happen. So a long season,
- 45:43Speaker 1: filthy beasts. Okay, we got another one coming in Lord
- 45:50Speaker 1: zero from the Pat McAfee show. This looks a little
- 45:55Speaker 1: better for the Bears, ranking up seven points or spots
- 45:59Speaker 1: to I stick to my story. Yeah, I thought the
- 46:03Speaker 1: thirty two was fair to wear. Chicago was as a
- 46:05Speaker 1: team entering the season, and I think, yes, you get
- 46:09Speaker 1: a win. I don't care what's going on with mother Nature.
- 46:12Speaker 1: That was a nice win and a great way to
- 46:13Speaker 1: start the season. And yes, Justin Fields, Yes, yes he
- 46:18Speaker 1: could be the dude. Give me the dude, Just give
- 46:22Speaker 1: him help. Okay, one more, one more fan checkout like
- 46:26Speaker 1: Justin Fields more and more. Um. Okay, so this comes
- 46:30Speaker 1: in from sad Texas sports fan at your take is dumb? Well,
- 46:35Speaker 1: Cowboys be above or below the Birmingham Stallions at thirty two. Yeah,
- 46:39Speaker 1: there is a reality where Dak and we don't want
- 46:43Speaker 1: this happen, has a setback and or they just realize
- 46:46Speaker 1: he needs more time because they're pushing this four week
- 46:49Speaker 1: thing because they're scared in desperate right now? Uh In
- 46:53Speaker 1: the Star where they are a number thirty two team
- 46:57Speaker 1: this season, like there are. I said this on Good
- 46:59Speaker 1: Morning Football Today, there are. You could smell a terrible
- 47:02Speaker 1: Cowboys season from I've gerald World's away, absolutely you It's
- 47:07Speaker 1: it starts early. It starts with a bad game in
- 47:10Speaker 1: prime time. It includes Jerry Jones either in his box
- 47:14Speaker 1: or walking down a tunnel looking upset, and just the
- 47:17Speaker 1: gaggle of his assistance and minions walking behind him looking stern.
- 47:23Speaker 1: That was what happened a week one, and usually it
- 47:25Speaker 1: doesn't get better. Maybe they'll shockus, but I don't like
- 47:28Speaker 1: where the Cowboys are heading this year. I will say
- 47:31Speaker 1: in my power rankings of Twitter handles, your take is
- 47:34Speaker 1: dumb is probably in the number one spot. Immediately it's
- 47:38Speaker 1: you're getting aggressive and you're saying I don't even care
- 47:41Speaker 1: what you're saying. It's wrong, and I'm right. That's kind
- 47:44Speaker 1: of what Twitter is, as Noel Gallagher once said, the
- 47:46Speaker 1: playground of idiots. That's right. I think that that guy
- 47:50Speaker 1: is confident, and I love his confidence. I love your
- 47:53Speaker 1: confidence as well. Dan Well is going to have a
- 47:58Speaker 1: confidence week to his power rankings. You can check them
- 48:01Speaker 1: out online NFL dot com slash bloviator. No, is that it?
- 48:05Speaker 1: Maybe King Power Rankings. We'll be back next week. Until then,
