- 0:37Speaker 3: on one half of the show Mixed Company Podcast and
- 0:40Speaker 3: is always I'm enjoyed by the classy alcoholic classy. What's
- 0:44Speaker 3: going on? Man?
- 0:46Speaker 2: Oh, Jamison, I'm feeling good. I mean, I can't say
- 0:48Speaker 2: I'm enjoying the summer heat, but I'm trying to beat
- 0:51Speaker 2: it by going out drinking all night and sleeping all
- 0:53Speaker 2: day with the AC cracked. And it's kind of working,
- 0:55Speaker 2: kind of working.
- 0:56Speaker 3: That doesn't make No, you can't drink more in the heat.
- 1:00Speaker 3: I don't work.
- 1:00Speaker 2: That's what I wait a night tell you know, it's
- 1:03Speaker 2: like cool cool.
- 1:05Speaker 3: Yeah. You you in the Midwestern and back heats, your
- 1:08Speaker 3: nights ain't d the nights.
- 1:10Speaker 2: That's true. I have in Arizona. So is that what
- 1:12Speaker 2: I've been feeling like garbage for the last like two
- 1:14Speaker 2: months or is it just like But here's the thing.
- 1:18Speaker 2: Not only do I drink all night, I had a
- 1:20Speaker 2: lot of late night tacos, So I don't know, maybe
- 1:22Speaker 2: that kind of balances out man eat for you. Yeah, well,
- 1:28Speaker 2: I think I'm gonna have to talk to I don't know,
- 1:31Speaker 2: a nutritionist or somebody to a mobile IV place to
- 1:36Speaker 2: maybe get myself back on track, because clearly I am
- 1:38Speaker 2: living my life wrong.
- 1:40Speaker 3: Uh.
- 1:40Speaker 2: But that's okay, because one thing I am doing right
- 1:43Speaker 2: is with here. I'm here with you today recording episode
- 1:46Speaker 2: nine of our show, and uh, I have been making
- 1:48Speaker 2: it out to the news stand picking up the Boxing Gazette,
- 1:52Speaker 2: America's finest source in boxing news. So let's check out
- 1:55Speaker 2: the headlines. What have we got here? The front page
- 1:58Speaker 2: was Jake Paul of course, but I'm more just in
- 2:00Speaker 2: What's in the back by the crossword puzzle by the
- 2:02Speaker 2: escort ads. Deontay Wilder came back this weekend on against
- 2:09Speaker 2: Tyrrell Herndon. The fight was streamed on BLK Prime, which
- 2:12Speaker 2: I assume has pronounced black Prime, a streaming service that
- 2:15Speaker 2: I only remember spending a lot of money back in
- 2:18Speaker 2: twenty twenty two to host Budd Crawford versus David a
- 2:21Speaker 2: venison of an Ason. Apologies if I got that wrong, jameson,
- 2:26Speaker 2: how do you feel about Deontay's return?
- 2:30Speaker 3: So here's the thing I don't like. I don't why
- 2:33Speaker 3: when the boxer retires and not retired and plays that game,
- 2:36Speaker 3: I'm not a fan of that. However, it feels like
- 2:39Speaker 3: he's back because of the money. It feels like he's
- 2:41Speaker 3: back because there's there's earning opportunity in the next six
- 2:45Speaker 3: to twelve months. So that's where I kind of feel
- 2:50Speaker 3: indifferent at right, Like are you back because you want
- 2:52Speaker 3: to fight? Or are you back because you want to
- 2:54Speaker 3: make money? Because his flaws have always been his laws? Right?
- 2:58Speaker 3: You know, out of the box, or we know what
- 3:01Speaker 3: watchers can can I do? We know their strens of
- 3:03Speaker 3: weaknesses are. We've known his strengths and weaknesses and the
- 3:06Speaker 3: fact that he's never really approved upon them kind of
- 3:08Speaker 3: tells him tell us the full story about him. So
- 3:11Speaker 3: we know at this age of the game, you don't
- 3:13Speaker 3: necessarily get better or learn new things. You kind of
- 3:16Speaker 3: are who you are. So it looks like he's in
- 3:18Speaker 3: it for a cash grap and I get it, you know,
- 3:20Speaker 3: he started. He was a late kind of a late rumer. Uh.
- 3:23Speaker 3: You know, he made a lot of money at the
- 3:25Speaker 3: same time. If someone's giving you ten plus million a
- 3:28Speaker 3: year to fight or ten plus million for a fight
- 3:30Speaker 3: to fight Joshua in six months, then you kind of
- 3:33Speaker 3: have to do it. So I get it. I'm not
- 3:35Speaker 3: a fan of it, but I understand. I understand why
- 3:37Speaker 3: he's still fighting well and correct me if I'm wrong.
- 3:41Speaker 3: But I don't remember him officially saying he was retiring.
- 3:44Speaker 3: He kind of just disappeared after the Fury fight, but
- 3:46Speaker 3: he didn't make an announcement.
- 3:47Speaker 2: He just kind of it.
- 3:51Speaker 3: It felt like we got some i'm done, I'm good
- 3:53Speaker 3: kind of comments, but nothing ever officially. It was always like,
- 3:57Speaker 3: oh I'm good, or I've had enough or I done enough.
- 4:01Speaker 3: But it'll never an officially goodbye. But with all that
- 4:04Speaker 3: being said, in terms of a serious fighter, he's retired.
- 4:07Speaker 3: You know, we don't hang him. He can't be taking seriously.
- 4:10Speaker 3: He cannot.
- 4:11Speaker 2: That's fair. I mean. Now, I've always liked Deonte, never
- 4:14Speaker 2: the most technically skilled fighter, definitely a tough guy. You know,
- 4:17Speaker 2: to his credit, he's got forty nine fights. Nothing this
- 4:20Speaker 2: needs at you know, I think the more. The thing
- 4:23Speaker 2: I'm most interested in is this Black Prime streaming service.
- 4:27Speaker 2: Do you know much about it? If you heard about it,
- 4:29Speaker 2: or do you remember anything apart from the Crawford Fighter.
- 4:33Speaker 2: It's existence it. I try to look Yeah, I try
- 4:36Speaker 2: to look it up, and it says you know, it's
- 4:38Speaker 2: it's got boxing on it. That's a big draw. It
- 4:41Speaker 2: does say multi multicultural entertainment. I'm assuming it's like a
- 4:44Speaker 2: like a modern bet streaming bet wo price to thirty
- 4:48Speaker 2: three nine nine a month. They seem to focus smaller
- 4:51Speaker 2: name fighters. You know, I'm actually kind of interested to
- 4:54Speaker 2: check it out because I just like fights.
- 4:56Speaker 3: You know.
- 4:56Speaker 2: A couple of weeknds ago, I think I was trying
- 4:59Speaker 2: to find the Abdua A Mason fight on one of
- 5:01Speaker 2: my gray market streaming services. Uh, and I ran across
- 5:06Speaker 2: like two women when Hispanic when British going at it
- 5:09Speaker 2: in a boxingate. No idea who they were. The announcers
- 5:11Speaker 2: were speaking in Spanish. I just said and watched while
- 5:13Speaker 2: I waited for ESPN to get to the next event.
- 5:15Speaker 2: So I know, I there's a match on. I don't
- 5:19Speaker 2: have to follow the fighter, I don't have to care about,
- 5:22Speaker 2: you know, their track record career. So hey, maybe if
- 5:25Speaker 2: Black Prime has ab up and coming names, maybe there's
- 5:28Speaker 2: gonna be somebody that you know, we'll hear about in
- 5:30Speaker 2: a year.
- 5:31Speaker 3: So we are both the same age, we've both been
- 5:34Speaker 3: around for a long time. We've watched boxing all kinds
- 5:37Speaker 3: of different streams, channels, ille o, cable, you name it, right,
- 5:41Speaker 3: If there's a fight that we want to watch, we
- 5:42Speaker 3: gonna find it, like that's the thing. And if they
- 5:45Speaker 3: are putting on fights consistently, we will know, we will
- 5:48Speaker 3: know more about them. That's how it always goes. If
- 5:50Speaker 3: there's a fight, we will find.
- 5:51Speaker 2: It, sure, Black Prime. I think I forget the number exactly,
- 5:56Speaker 2: but they paid millions of dollars for the Crawford evan
- 5:59Speaker 2: Asen fight, and uh that when if I remember correctly,
- 6:03Speaker 2: it was pretty boring, pretty stuck too far in Butts favored.
- 6:07Speaker 2: It didn't seem like a like much of a challenge, did.
- 6:11Speaker 2: It seemed very competitive, you know. I didn't know much
- 6:14Speaker 2: about the fighters, still don't know, because I apologize, I'm
- 6:17Speaker 2: not like mispronouncing his name on purpose to be a dick.
- 6:20Speaker 2: I believe it's an Essien David Avnescien. But it was
- 6:26Speaker 2: I struggle to say, I shouldn't say Tomato can, but
- 6:29Speaker 2: that's what it felt like to me what I said.
- 6:31Speaker 2: So Crawford was the draw. But I don't know if
- 6:35Speaker 2: if Black Prime is gonna stay in the boxing game.
- 6:38Speaker 2: You know, either they need to have consistent smaller fighters,
- 6:42Speaker 2: smaller name fighters like I said, uh to get him
- 6:45Speaker 2: out into the the spotlight and and new names. But
- 6:49Speaker 2: I don't think, yeah, Deontay Wilder's return, maybe, isn't it
- 6:52Speaker 2: maybe something a little bit uh more more like mid
- 6:56Speaker 2: tier fighter.
- 6:57Speaker 3: If that just consistent fights, I've yes, whatever you do
- 7:01Speaker 3: something assistant, people know about you. It's like opening up
- 7:03Speaker 3: a restaurant, right if you're selling burgers and you're open
- 7:06Speaker 3: every day, people will know you for selling burgers, Like
- 7:08Speaker 3: that's what you're known as. So it's not anything else.
- 7:11Speaker 3: Especially why the outlets are now, with the way that
- 7:13Speaker 3: the major outlets are kind of gone away from boxing,
- 7:15Speaker 3: there's gonna be a second tier app or a lesser
- 7:19Speaker 3: known app that wants to take charge. Is there for
- 7:21Speaker 3: the taking?
- 7:22Speaker 2: In my opinion, yeah, absolutely, And we've said her many
- 7:25Speaker 2: times that boxing has to get creative and where it's
- 7:29Speaker 2: airing or where it's streaming going forward, because yeah, they're
- 7:32Speaker 2: you know, losing HBO Top rank and ESPN party. Ways,
- 7:37Speaker 2: we got to figure out what the next options are.
- 7:39Speaker 2: And hey, you know what, I'll give it a shot.
- 7:41Speaker 2: I'll pay the three ninety nine and see what's on there.
- 7:44Speaker 2: Three ninety nine. I'm probably gonna forget that I subscribe
- 7:46Speaker 2: to it, and they're gonna get at least six months
- 7:48Speaker 2: out of me to be to be very honest, right
- 7:54Speaker 2: all right. Next up on the list, Jake Paul, still
- 7:57Speaker 2: trying to make a name for himself as someone boxing
- 7:59Speaker 2: fans should care about. He thought Julio Chavis Junior over
- 8:02Speaker 2: the weekend. You know, I've looked. I've said Chavis Senior
- 8:05Speaker 2: is my favorite fighter and the reason I got into
- 8:07Speaker 2: boxing when I was a wee little baby. But I
- 8:10Speaker 2: think my man needs to tell his son to find
- 8:12Speaker 2: another career. You know, he's on paper, Chavis Junior has
- 8:16Speaker 2: not had a terrible career sixty three fights, fifty four wins,
- 8:19Speaker 2: seven losses, thirty four KOs, but his career has been
- 8:23Speaker 2: marred by failing to make weight, failing drug tests. But however,
- 8:28Speaker 2: to be fair, one time he was finding suspended for
- 8:30Speaker 2: marijuana's which I think is stupid. That's not a performance
- 8:34Speaker 2: enhancing drug for fighting. That doesn't make you, doesn't affect
- 8:37Speaker 2: your ability to box. Let's start there. What's your take
- 8:41Speaker 2: on marijuana being a drug that gets fighters find or suspended?
- 8:47Speaker 3: So I don't think of the PD. I think if
- 8:49Speaker 3: it's legal in the state the fight's being held in,
- 8:52Speaker 3: I don't think it would be a problem. I think
- 8:54Speaker 3: that is should go by state rule. So if the
- 8:56Speaker 3: state you're in it says, hey, it's good, it's good.
- 9:00Speaker 3: If it's illegal, then it shouldn't be good. Like I
- 9:02Speaker 3: think that's how it should be. It's not a PD.
- 9:06Speaker 3: If anything makes you reflects its slower. If anything, it
- 9:10Speaker 3: can help ease anxiety before a fight. Maybe, But I
- 9:13Speaker 3: don't see the benefit or the gain of somebody testing
- 9:17Speaker 3: positive for weed and patching a fight. I just don't
- 9:19Speaker 3: see it. Now. Other drugs of course, pds, of course,
- 9:22Speaker 3: but we'd no, I don't. I don't necessarily see that. However,
- 9:26Speaker 3: let's be real, most of this country that's an adult
- 9:29Speaker 3: help some kids do. Most smoke weed in some way,
- 9:32Speaker 3: shape or form, or they they obtain cannabis, whether it's
- 9:36Speaker 3: via gummies, whether it's via edibles, whether it's via smoking
- 9:41Speaker 3: and whatever. How do you want to go about it.
- 9:43Speaker 3: I don't think it's a big deal. I think it's
- 9:45Speaker 3: much to do about nothing. However, once you develop a
- 9:50Speaker 3: an image or a reputation, these are things that happen.
- 9:54Speaker 3: You don't get benefit of doubt when things come up.
- 9:57Speaker 2: Right. Yeah, and you know, Chevez Junior has had kind
- 10:00Speaker 2: of like a I guess, a shit show of a career.
- 10:03Speaker 2: I guess that is what I would say, you know,
- 10:05Speaker 2: very nice. Yeah, yeah, absolutely. I think this biggest claim
- 10:09Speaker 2: to fame was losing to Canelo and kind of helping
- 10:11Speaker 2: him take off and you know, become a bigger name. Yeah.
- 10:16Speaker 2: You know, the fight wasn't really from what I read,
- 10:18Speaker 2: because I'll be honest, I didn't watch it. People were
- 10:21Speaker 2: excited about it, the audience were booing. There wasn't a
- 10:24Speaker 2: lot of funchstone, a lot of holding. So today, actually
- 10:27Speaker 2: just before I got in the air, we got news
- 10:29Speaker 2: that Jake Paul was ranked number fourteen cruiserweight by the WBA,
- 10:34Speaker 2: So he's officially wrecked. The everything is alighting to make
- 10:37Speaker 2: people try to take him seriously. A lot of people
- 10:41Speaker 2: already do. Let's be fair, I'm being a hater.
- 10:43Speaker 3: But yeah, this is not real. This is this is
- 10:47Speaker 3: a movie, this is this is make pretend.
- 10:49Speaker 2: Man.
- 10:49Speaker 3: He's not fighting real guys. Man Like, if he's a
- 10:52Speaker 3: real boxer, he fights real guys. He's not gonna find
- 10:54Speaker 3: a real guy. So this is all may believe.
- 10:57Speaker 2: Okay, So you are on my side, you know, I'm
- 10:59Speaker 2: trying to be like.
- 11:01Speaker 3: Here's the thing. He does numbers, So you do numbers.
- 11:05Speaker 3: You can do whatever you want because if it makes money,
- 11:08Speaker 3: people will tune in. So I don't take that away
- 11:10Speaker 3: from at all, not one bit. I trust me, I
- 11:13Speaker 3: am I get the business aspect. Well, let's call it
- 11:17Speaker 3: for what it is. This is w w E. This
- 11:20Speaker 3: is not real boxing. This is not Oh you don't
- 11:23Speaker 3: have real fighters in there that have gone through real training,
- 11:27Speaker 3: real regimen, staying in shape, staying clear minded, etcetera, etcetera.
- 11:32Speaker 3: Even as crazy as Ryan Garcia is, he wouldn't dare
- 11:35Speaker 3: fight Ryan. He wouldn't dare even even think about that
- 11:39Speaker 3: unless it's fixed. There's no way, there's no way.
- 11:43Speaker 2: Well, you know what, I realized what my issues with
- 11:46Speaker 2: Jake Paul are. And if you'll indulge me for a second,
- 11:50Speaker 2: one of my favorite things in the world is when
- 11:52Speaker 2: actors I kind of like, release shitty music. Do you
- 11:55Speaker 2: remember when Jeremy Renner a few years ago was getting
- 11:57Speaker 2: clown for doing the go t. You remember that?
- 12:02Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't ever do that again. I won't.
- 12:05Speaker 2: But here's the thing. He released the whole album. It
- 12:08Speaker 2: was terrible, and I listened to that hundreds of times.
- 12:11Speaker 2: It's one of those like it's so bad, it's good,
- 12:14Speaker 2: trust me, it's it's a problem, it's a sickness. Vin
- 12:16Speaker 2: Diesel released the song. I listened to that on repeat.
- 12:19Speaker 2: He for Sutherland has terrible country music. I don't even
- 12:22Speaker 2: like country music, and his is particularly bad. But I
- 12:25Speaker 2: end up just because it's a dumb, weird thing that
- 12:28Speaker 2: I am into. I say that to say this, I
- 12:32Speaker 2: do not believe anyone became a fan of Jake Paul
- 12:34Speaker 2: as a boxer by watching him fight. I don't. I
- 12:38Speaker 2: even if you say you did. I just like, I
- 12:41Speaker 2: don't think there's a single country music fan in the
- 12:43Speaker 2: world who stumbled across key first album and became a
- 12:46Speaker 2: fan of his without ever having seen you know, twenty
- 12:49Speaker 2: four or The Lost Boys or whatever you want to say.
- 12:51Speaker 2: Paul's a real fighter. Whatever you want to say he's
- 12:53Speaker 2: good for someone who started boxing late. You want to
- 12:56Speaker 2: say he's good for the sport because he brings in
- 12:58Speaker 2: new fans. Whatever, That's not the point. The point is
- 13:01Speaker 2: that David du Company is a legitimate singer with albums
- 13:04Speaker 2: and shows that people attend and have a great time.
- 13:07Speaker 2: But the conversation has to be different from a musician
- 13:10Speaker 2: who grinded, you know, playing acoustic guitar for years at
- 13:14Speaker 2: dive bars and managed to get a big break of
- 13:16Speaker 2: the music scene, told in obscurity because he wasn't on
- 13:18Speaker 2: the xpouse or twenty years. That's what Paul is to me,
- 13:21Speaker 2: and I'm sorry, that's why I respect him less as
- 13:24Speaker 2: a fighter. He never had to fight at two PM
- 13:26Speaker 2: on a major card to get himself headlined.
- 13:29Speaker 3: You are correct, there was no before the before the
- 13:32Speaker 3: employees are in, before the ushers are in. There's none
- 13:36Speaker 3: of that when people are still setting up the main
- 13:38Speaker 3: banners and the main chairs, and you know the seat covering.
- 13:41Speaker 3: So in life seat covering, those ain't on there two pm.
- 13:45Speaker 3: Those on there. There's no life seats. It's his regular
- 13:49Speaker 3: seats that's to fight. But yeah, no, yeah, he doesn't
- 13:53Speaker 3: have the traditional upbring of a he didn't have the
- 13:57Speaker 3: traditional upbring of a boxer, and he kind of skipped
- 14:01Speaker 3: the line. And also, we know this is a joke
- 14:05Speaker 3: for him. This isn't a really serious Now, if he
- 14:08Speaker 3: wasn't making money, would he still be boxing. No, that
- 14:11Speaker 3: wouldn't be the case. We know how that goes. So
- 14:13Speaker 3: he's not a real boxer. He's doing this because it's convenient,
- 14:16Speaker 3: not because he loves boxing, and this is in his heart.
- 14:19Speaker 3: So that's why I'm kind of like, eh, I'm indifferent
- 14:21Speaker 3: to it. But he does make money, and I get it.
- 14:24Speaker 3: I understand why. I just don't really support it like that.
- 14:27Speaker 2: Sure, I agreed, and that's probably this is gonna be
- 14:29Speaker 2: the last thing I say about him, you know that
- 14:31Speaker 2: whole rant. And well also another actually one last thing
- 14:35Speaker 2: is that all of his fans, it keeps saying Jake
- 14:39Speaker 2: Paul's the goat. You know, he's a great fighter. He
- 14:41Speaker 2: can knock at Canelo, he can knock out Tank Davis.
- 14:44Speaker 2: I firmly believe that if he got into professional basketball
- 14:50Speaker 2: instead of boxing, those same people would be saying Jake
- 14:53Speaker 2: Paul's to goat. He could smoke Lebron in one on
- 14:55Speaker 2: one he could be the next Kobe Blah blah blah.
- 14:58Speaker 2: I think they say it because they were already fans.
- 15:00Speaker 2: I don't think they were fans because they really believe.
- 15:04Speaker 3: That. And also, he has a huge following, so there's
- 15:08Speaker 3: a lot of people that gravitate towards him and they'll
- 15:10Speaker 3: support everything he does, whether it's energy drink, whether it's
- 15:13Speaker 3: reality show, whether it's a sport or whatever. So you
- 15:16Speaker 3: got to be mindful that. It kind of reminds me
- 15:19Speaker 3: in some form of other industries where people are fans
- 15:23Speaker 3: of that person, not the industry or the genre. They're
- 15:26Speaker 3: fans of a particular person, so they'll do anything a
- 15:29Speaker 3: person does, but they're not fans of the sport, so
- 15:32Speaker 3: they'll be glued in. They'll go to boxing matches, they're
- 15:35Speaker 3: not fans of boxing, they're fans of a person, so
- 15:38Speaker 3: when that person stops boxing, they're leaving two right.
- 15:42Speaker 2: And you know, David Dukovany does have his shows, and
- 15:46Speaker 2: I'm sure he has his fans, but the guy traded
- 15:48Speaker 2: a name recognition to create I don't know. I think
- 15:51Speaker 2: it's like not quite it's like country adjacent folk ish
- 15:56Speaker 2: type of music that again is very bad, but I
- 15:59Speaker 2: say that as someone who is listen to a lot
- 16:00Speaker 2: of it, it just can't be the same. We just
- 16:03Speaker 2: can't treat you know. It'd be like if you are
- 16:06Speaker 2: a real fan of a lot of different kinds of music,
- 16:09Speaker 2: like a lot of different kinds of genres, and then
- 16:11Speaker 2: I tell you my favorite musician is jereedmy Redner, You're
- 16:15Speaker 2: gonna tell me to get the hell out of your face.
- 16:16Speaker 2: It's just not the same. And that's and that's how
- 16:19Speaker 2: I feel about Paul. And you know, I do hope
- 16:24Speaker 2: that he kind of changes his mind and wants to
- 16:26Speaker 2: do something else with his career so I don't have
- 16:28Speaker 2: to keep hearing about it and keep having to see
- 16:31Speaker 2: the social media plug it and the comments saying, you know,
- 16:33Speaker 2: he's the goat, he's the face of boxing, blah blah blahs.
- 16:37Speaker 2: It gets pretty exhausted. Next up in the news, Devin
- 16:42Speaker 2: Haney is moving up weight to one hundred and forty
- 16:45Speaker 2: seven pounds to the welterweight division to fight Brian Norman Jr.
- 16:49Speaker 2: Again with the Saudi's for another rea season match later
- 16:51Speaker 2: this year. Now, we both said we're both off hany
- 16:54Speaker 2: you know, we're not really excited about anything he's got
- 16:57Speaker 2: coming up. But this did surprise me because he lust
- 17:00Speaker 2: against Garcia, struggled against Loma, and now he's gonna fight
- 17:04Speaker 2: an even bigger guy.
- 17:07Speaker 3: I no, no. Also, here's the thing, man, here's the thing.
- 17:12Speaker 3: We also realize when boxers don't progress forever reason all
- 17:18Speaker 3: bets are off, whether their power doesn't translate, whether they're
- 17:22Speaker 3: not hungry anymore, whether they were over ready to begin with,
- 17:25Speaker 3: when you see the signs. We give too many guys
- 17:28Speaker 3: the benefit of the doubt. I think that's our biggest
- 17:29Speaker 3: issue is boxing fans, especially if we like the person
- 17:32Speaker 3: or they're undefeated, or the media tells us something, we'll
- 17:35Speaker 3: give a box or the benefit of the doubt before
- 17:37Speaker 3: we are pessimistic about it or pessimist about it. But
- 17:41Speaker 3: with that being said, there's been too many lackluster fights
- 17:46Speaker 3: by him to give him the benefit of the doubt.
- 17:48Speaker 3: There has not been enough positive things for me to
- 17:52Speaker 3: be like, oh yeah, I think it's no, I'm doubting
- 17:55Speaker 3: until for the notice that's fair.
- 17:59Speaker 2: I am definitely on with you. I'm very curious what
- 18:03Speaker 2: would it take for the Saudis to kind of cut
- 18:05Speaker 2: their losses on him, or even not doing just him
- 18:08Speaker 2: any other guys that kind of aren't, you know, showing
- 18:11Speaker 2: up up to muster.
- 18:13Speaker 3: It's a it's a name thing. It's not necessarily a
- 18:16Speaker 3: performance thing. They're into names. That's why Wilder Josh was
- 18:20Speaker 3: going to be made next, next jot or next year.
- 18:23Speaker 3: So it's not necessarily a performance thing at the moment. Anyway.
- 18:28Speaker 3: They might change, but as of right now, it's about names.
- 18:32Speaker 3: We're We're blessed to be able to get Canela Crawford
- 18:35Speaker 3: because their two biggest names are also two really good fighters.
- 18:38Speaker 3: They want the show. They don't necessarily care about the
- 18:44Speaker 3: They want to the big marketing. They want the big
- 18:48Speaker 3: pre fight dollar. They're not always turned out the product itself,
- 18:51Speaker 3: as we've seen in other cards. The product hasn't been
- 18:54Speaker 3: great in some of the cards. They're more concerned about, Hey,
- 18:57Speaker 3: we got this together, we made this work. That's how.
- 19:02Speaker 2: Yeah, but how long could that last? I mean if
- 19:04Speaker 2: people are just not tuning in? You know, the Devin
- 19:07Speaker 2: Haiti got flamed over that performance in Times Square.
- 19:13Speaker 3: Are you aware of the money that they have and
- 19:15Speaker 3: what they do?
- 19:15Speaker 2: And you know, I'm speaking about viewership though, I'm speaking
- 19:19Speaker 2: out fans and viewership who.
- 19:20Speaker 3: Just don't know people. As long as people have a name,
- 19:24Speaker 3: people will watch. I think that's the thing that even
- 19:28Speaker 3: when guy's overrated, right, so people will watch as long
- 19:32Speaker 3: as guys have a name and they are somewhat relevant.
- 19:36Speaker 3: Now I'm not saying relevant in a bad good way,
- 19:38Speaker 3: but if their name is out there, for whatever reason,
- 19:41Speaker 3: people will watch. You got deva Handy's dad out there
- 19:44Speaker 3: always talking to other fighters and trying to get other
- 19:46Speaker 3: fights made. That's keeping his son relevant and that happens
- 19:51Speaker 3: every time. But when he fights, that's just how it goes. Hell,
- 19:54Speaker 3: his dad might be tougher than him the way things
- 19:56Speaker 3: have seen, don't be I mean, you know what I mean.
- 19:58Speaker 3: His dad has had more bark then Devin at times.
- 20:01Speaker 3: So guys like that will be relevant. They'll be able
- 20:04Speaker 3: to fight and people know their name. It would have
- 20:07Speaker 3: like a four fight loss street for then the back
- 20:10Speaker 3: up and find somebody else. But until then, as long
- 20:12Speaker 3: as he's competitive and he's not losing fights, he's gonna
- 20:15Speaker 3: be on card for a while. And they're they're fighting
- 20:17Speaker 3: more frequently, they're planning to anyway, which is a good thing.
- 20:22Speaker 2: Yeah, I can appreciate that, and I appreciate the that
- 20:25Speaker 2: perspective because it just kind of clicks in my head.
- 20:27Speaker 2: You know. I people hate watch things. People would want
- 20:30Speaker 2: to watch Devi and Haiti to make fun of him
- 20:32Speaker 2: online for being bad even if he wins on the scorecards.
- 20:36Speaker 2: That is a driving force.
- 20:37Speaker 3: Hell.
- 20:37Speaker 2: I watched hate watch like two or three seasons of Dexter,
- 20:40Speaker 2: and I was like, when I say hate watched, I
- 20:43Speaker 2: hated every second of it, but I stuck there even
- 20:46Speaker 2: I'm not immune to it, so I can see. You know,
- 20:48Speaker 2: the I'll say this about Haiti. I'll defend him on
- 20:53Speaker 2: one point. You know, the thing that he keeps getting
- 20:55Speaker 2: called on social media's pillow hands, pillow hens. David Haiti
- 20:59Speaker 2: doesn't have any power. I don't like that because not
- 21:02Speaker 2: everybody is a knockout artist. Okay, you know, whatever you
- 21:06Speaker 2: want to say about his latest performances. That performance against
- 21:09Speaker 2: George Camboso's in Australia was fantastic, and that mean Devin
- 21:14Speaker 2: Hittey just completely demolished that man on points, on jabs
- 21:18Speaker 2: with great defense. So I mean he doesn't have to
- 21:22Speaker 2: have a knockout every fight. If you want to say that,
- 21:24Speaker 2: then who else's pillow heads? Everybody's favorite Rusky Dmitri Beval
- 21:28Speaker 2: who goes to the distance most of his fights.
- 21:32Speaker 3: So here's the thing. The pillow hands thing is funny
- 21:35Speaker 3: first of all, but I think it's more of his
- 21:37Speaker 3: fights aren't exciting. So if you're not knocking guys out
- 21:41Speaker 3: and you're not very technical, your fights become boring, and
- 21:45Speaker 3: if you're not really looking good at those fights, it's
- 21:48Speaker 3: even worse. So I think that's more the criticism that
- 21:52Speaker 3: not only is he not knocking guys out, but his
- 21:55Speaker 3: fights are very lackluster, and even when he's winning, it's
- 21:58Speaker 3: not convincing a great performance. So that's where the name
- 22:02Speaker 3: calling comes in. When you don't knock guys out, but
- 22:05Speaker 3: you're dominating fights, we call you different things. We have
- 22:08Speaker 3: a different turn for that. So I think that's the
- 22:10Speaker 3: difference in terms of being able to put on a
- 22:12Speaker 3: show even while not knocking somebody out, but looking dominant
- 22:16Speaker 3: in the in the twelve rounds of the ten rounds
- 22:18Speaker 3: or however long it took to do. So, I think
- 22:20Speaker 3: that's the difference. That's the main switch between looking good
- 22:24Speaker 3: without dropping somebody or without you know, making somebody hurt
- 22:28Speaker 3: or make being lackluster and looking like hey, man, what's
- 22:32Speaker 3: going on? Because as a fight goes on and you
- 22:35Speaker 3: have a big name fighter in there and he's not
- 22:37Speaker 3: really taking care of business and it just don't look right,
- 22:39Speaker 3: then you start to doubt. Then you start to be like, yeah,
- 22:42Speaker 3: the power ain't there, did the power? Did the power
- 22:44Speaker 3: not move up with them? All kinds of questions start.
- 22:46Speaker 3: So I get it, but I think it's more of
- 22:48Speaker 3: how the fight goes I think that's a bigger question
- 22:51Speaker 3: than anything.
- 22:53Speaker 2: I can see that. I just have never loved the
- 22:57Speaker 2: thing where fans say like, well we just want to
- 22:59Speaker 2: see KOs, you want to see chaos. Go watch a
- 23:01Speaker 2: YouTube compilation of chaos if that's what you really care about,
- 23:04Speaker 2: because again it does. You know, Haney, for all of
- 23:07Speaker 2: his issues lately, used to be a skilled technical fighter
- 23:11Speaker 2: and moved well, I don't know what happened. Maybe the
- 23:14Speaker 2: Garcia fighter is a lot of people speculated kind of
- 23:16Speaker 2: threw them off his game. But again I've definished of
- 23:19Speaker 2: course Stevenson. You know, he had one boring fight and
- 23:23Speaker 2: then everybody just said this guy's no good. Not even
- 23:26Speaker 2: like this guy is a boring fighter. They said, this
- 23:28Speaker 2: guy just sucks and the skills are there.
- 23:32Speaker 3: I'm glad you brought that fight up. Please hold I
- 23:35Speaker 3: have a message from that fight from someone that is
- 23:37Speaker 3: close to the situation. I don't know if I've showed
- 23:40Speaker 3: you this in the past, but I have a message
- 23:45Speaker 3: from someone.
- 23:47Speaker 2: Is this Is this a Mixed Company podcast exclusive? Jameson?
- 23:50Speaker 3: It is? It is? It was a while ago, but
- 23:53Speaker 3: it was from someone. It was from a boxer I
- 23:55Speaker 3: can't name because I can't give me one moment here
- 24:00Speaker 3: and pulling it up even if you gotta not even
- 24:02Speaker 3: you gotta pause it real quick or not an aunt
- 24:04Speaker 3: of times so we can edit it. But give me
- 24:06Speaker 3: a few moments here. I gotta find it. But I
- 24:09Speaker 3: have a.
- 24:11Speaker 2: Well, why while you're looking it up? This is the
- 24:14Speaker 2: fight between, like I said, Shaker Stevenson and Edward Delo Santos,
- 24:17Speaker 2: which is number six three.
- 24:19Speaker 3: Yep, hold on one moment because I have someone that
- 24:25Speaker 3: is an ex world champion that texts my guy something
- 24:30Speaker 3: and whatld on me let me find it. But yes,
- 24:37Speaker 3: I'm glad you brought that fight up. To That fight
- 24:38Speaker 3: is very important and it's the difference between the casual
- 24:41Speaker 3: fan and everyone else because a lot of people don't
- 24:46Speaker 3: quite understand that sometimes it's best just to survive. It's
- 24:50Speaker 3: not best to go in there going crazy.
- 24:54Speaker 2: Wait, and I do remember that Chaquur said after the
- 24:57Speaker 2: fact that baby his hand was injured or something like that,
- 25:00Speaker 2: and he wasn't maybe he wasn't throwing the right at all.
- 25:05Speaker 2: I can't remember exactly what that was, but I do
- 25:07Speaker 2: remember that being part of the at least Chakour's take
- 25:10Speaker 2: on it. His defense, I guess you'd say on the
- 25:14Speaker 2: lackluster fight. And here's the thing. I agreed it was
- 25:16Speaker 2: a lackluster fight. He was also very clearly dominating on
- 25:22Speaker 2: the number of jabs against Delasento's. He was there using
- 25:26Speaker 2: a lot of defense, and you know, people are saying
- 25:28Speaker 2: he was running in the ring. I'll agree with that,
- 25:32Speaker 2: But at the end of the day, he got the
- 25:33Speaker 2: win solely on number of punches landed and Edwin Delsento's
- 25:39Speaker 2: couldn't really get in there, couldn't really get inside thanks
- 25:41Speaker 2: to Chakur's Chugar's defense. So I'm not saying that people
- 25:45Speaker 2: are wrong about it being a boring fight. I just
- 25:47Speaker 2: think he got too much guff for being, you know,
- 25:51Speaker 2: a bad fighter, and you know, people are flaming him online.
- 25:56Speaker 2: They're saying, Oh, the worst fight I've ever seen, blah
- 25:58Speaker 2: blah blah. He's completely over rated, So I just want
- 26:02Speaker 2: to see what I still think the kid has it
- 26:04Speaker 2: and has some really good skills, but I don't know.
- 26:08Speaker 2: Let's just see what your what your man's take on
- 26:10Speaker 2: there is.
- 26:11Speaker 3: Yeah, so it's very ironic that you bring that fight up.
- 26:14Speaker 3: There was a former world champ, a multi time world champ,
- 26:19Speaker 3: send a message to the group chat and it's basically like, hey, security,
- 26:25Speaker 3: we had to do he didn't take a lot of
- 26:26Speaker 3: chances he was safe because there's no real incentive on
- 26:32Speaker 3: in this fight taking a lot of risks. He can
- 26:33Speaker 3: win the fight basically fight the way he likes to fight.
- 26:37Speaker 3: And the CAVI fan doesn't want to hear that. But
- 26:39Speaker 3: from a boxer standpoint, especially how boxing is done, you're
- 26:43Speaker 3: not gonna take any unnecessary risks that you don't have to. Also,
- 26:47Speaker 3: there's bigger fights for him going forward, so there's no
- 26:51Speaker 3: need to risk trying to be hero or trying to
- 26:53Speaker 3: show people something that wasn't necessary in order to be
- 26:56Speaker 3: ultra aggressive potentially get caught with something. So it was
- 27:00Speaker 3: more like, hey, from a boxing standpoint, cancel the noise.
- 27:04Speaker 3: This is what he needs to do. He did, we
- 27:06Speaker 3: had to do to survive. And I think fight fans
- 27:09Speaker 3: don't want to hear or see that because they're trying
- 27:11Speaker 3: to see an action packed fight. They're trying to see blood,
- 27:13Speaker 3: they're trying to see people to the toe. Boxers understand that, hey,
- 27:18Speaker 3: fight by fight, let's survive in advance to get to
- 27:20Speaker 3: the next situation. And that's that was the difference of
- 27:23Speaker 3: the thinking. So it would opened my eyes a lot
- 27:25Speaker 3: when that came across the group chat.
- 27:28Speaker 2: So was it because Edwin della sentence just they didn't
- 27:31Speaker 2: think he was much of a challenge at all? Or
- 27:34Speaker 2: what was that? What was the reason that Shakurd just
- 27:37Speaker 2: didn't feel like or didn't feel the need to put
- 27:40Speaker 2: up that much of an effort.
- 27:41Speaker 3: The fight before. The power that he showed was dangerous
- 27:46Speaker 3: and they were very cautious of they're probably two cautionus
- 27:48Speaker 3: of it. I forgot who exactly we fought the fight before,
- 27:52Speaker 3: but de Losandeles showed a lot of power. I may
- 27:54Speaker 3: even drop the fighter before, And they were very cautious
- 27:57Speaker 3: of that, and they were saying, hey, this is what
- 27:59Speaker 3: he's capable of, so be careful make sure you don't
- 28:02Speaker 3: get caught with this, because here's the thing. We all know,
- 28:04Speaker 3: you're one punch away from changing a career.
- 28:07Speaker 1: Now.
- 28:08Speaker 3: We know, once a guy gets dropped in an embarrassing fashion,
- 28:11Speaker 3: a lot of times they never recover. So it's one
- 28:14Speaker 3: of those things to where you know, hey, you've gotta
- 28:21Speaker 3: be safe than sorry.
- 28:23Speaker 2: Okay, So that now I'm getting it. So Chakorus camp
- 28:27Speaker 2: knew that Edwin's power was dangerous, Dela Center's power was dangerous,
- 28:31Speaker 2: but also that he could not handle Chakor's style of
- 28:35Speaker 2: sticking and moving, sticking and moving and defense. Okay, So
- 28:39Speaker 2: that so I mean, you know, realistically speaking, that is
- 28:44Speaker 2: what boxing is is. You know, you find the guy's
- 28:46Speaker 2: weakness and you use your style against it. You get
- 28:48Speaker 2: matched with somebody or you are just your style to
- 28:51Speaker 2: you know this guy's weak at the body, you're gonna
- 28:53Speaker 2: stick a lot to the body. You know this guy's
- 28:55Speaker 2: uh can't fight as well on the inside. So I
- 28:58Speaker 2: don't know, it sounds to me like that's just art boxing.
- 29:04Speaker 3: It is, but y'all look at like this. Most fans
- 29:06Speaker 3: want to see a brawl right, most casfectly on ESPN
- 29:10Speaker 3: when fights on ESPN. They don't want to see sticking
- 29:12Speaker 3: and moving and points. They want to see knockdowns. They
- 29:14Speaker 3: want to see knockouts. They want to see people fighting
- 29:17Speaker 3: middle of the ring.
- 29:20Speaker 2: Hey, you know what if you're if you get the win,
- 29:21Speaker 2: you get the win. And at the end of the day,
- 29:23Speaker 2: to Chris Stevenson did, I don't know how much that
- 29:27Speaker 2: really affected his his career trajectory. You know, a lot
- 29:30Speaker 2: of fans talk a lot of their ship, but at
- 29:32Speaker 2: the end of the day, if he's still getting fights,
- 29:34Speaker 2: if he's still getting paid, I don't think he's gonna care.
- 29:38Speaker 3: He's gotten this far, he's gotten this far doing it
- 29:41Speaker 3: his way. He has no he has no reason to
- 29:45Speaker 3: do it any other way. Now, with that being said,
- 29:47Speaker 3: I don't know if his style works for other fighters,
- 29:50Speaker 3: guys that are more talented or just as talented as
- 29:52Speaker 3: he is. I'm not sure if power wise, if he
- 29:56Speaker 3: gets caught with a good shot by an above average
- 29:58Speaker 3: or a better fighter, I don't what happens, because to
- 30:01Speaker 3: this point he had only got caught with a lot
- 30:02Speaker 3: of big shots. He's been able to be out athletic,
- 30:05Speaker 3: outslit his opponent a lot of times. He is able
- 30:09Speaker 3: to fight someone with legit power and that legit athlete,
- 30:13Speaker 3: I'm curious see what happens. I am a big proponent
- 30:16Speaker 3: of the boxer beating the brawler. I'm a very big
- 30:18Speaker 3: proponent of that in a lot of cases. I would
- 30:20Speaker 3: like to see it because I do think your core's
- 30:23Speaker 3: skill set travels. I think it translates. I think it
- 30:25Speaker 3: does very well. However, one, I like to see him
- 30:28Speaker 3: be a little more aggressive going forward IFECI versus worthy opponents.
- 30:32Speaker 3: And secondly, I want to see him in a fight
- 30:34Speaker 3: where he's not running away with it. Can he dig
- 30:37Speaker 3: deep in a fight where he can't use his athleticism
- 30:40Speaker 3: and his quickness to just outpoint guys where he has
- 30:44Speaker 3: to throw shots in order to win a fight like
- 30:46Speaker 3: those are things I want to see. That's what makes
- 30:48Speaker 3: fighter's great. When they got to dig deep and go
- 30:50Speaker 3: to their C and D level plan because A and
- 30:53Speaker 3: B just didn't work for whatever reason they got neutralized
- 30:57Speaker 3: or just the bat matchup. Those are things I want
- 30:59Speaker 3: to see, and we'll see what happened. That looks like
- 31:01Speaker 3: he's being more active and he's more into things going forward,
- 31:05Speaker 3: so we'll see. But my biggest thing is with him,
- 31:09Speaker 3: what happens when it's round eight in the fight's four
- 31:12Speaker 3: to three either way, and he's not able to speed's
- 31:16Speaker 3: not working or he's not able to land because for
- 31:20Speaker 3: whatever reason, the person is just as athletic as he is,
- 31:23Speaker 3: then what happens. And that's why I want to see them.
- 31:26Speaker 2: It's a really good take, and I do appreciate that.
- 31:29Speaker 2: I do remember Oscar Valdez actually said that he hurts Courses.
- 31:35Speaker 2: Sorry that Shaquur said that he was hurt by Oscar
- 31:37Speaker 2: Valdez with a body shot, and then Oscar Valdez said
- 31:40Speaker 2: he didn't even realize it, you know, to cour admit it,
- 31:42Speaker 2: like he got me. It hurt. It kind of affected
- 31:46Speaker 2: my game plan a little bit, but he rolled with it.
- 31:48Speaker 2: So I don't know. Maybe the kid can take some
- 31:50Speaker 2: power punch as well. Oscar Valdes not known for like
- 31:54Speaker 2: super power puncher, but he's he's always had some game.
- 31:57Speaker 2: You know, he could definitely, you can definitely throw a
- 32:00Speaker 2: really good punch with the best of them if he
- 32:02Speaker 2: needs to. So I don't know, maybe that's an indication
- 32:05Speaker 2: that Chakor is sturdier than he looks. And yeah, that
- 32:10Speaker 2: that fight was just like a kind of it was
- 32:11Speaker 2: a blowout. Was he was dominating both at speed and
- 32:14Speaker 2: in points, so and I find that a very exciting match.
- 32:17Speaker 2: So just some food for thought. Yeah, I'm wanting to
- 32:21Speaker 2: see more from him from Shaquor not Oscar Oscar, love
- 32:25Speaker 2: you man, but like maybe it's time to hang up
- 32:26Speaker 2: the gloves, right, But yeah, come to I don't know
- 32:30Speaker 2: events here in Tucson because I mentioned before he's from Nogali, Sonora,
- 32:33Speaker 2: which is like an hour south of us. So hometown
- 32:36Speaker 2: hero but great career. But yeah, Shugar Stevens in your
- 32:39Speaker 2: career should just be taking off. So I want to
- 32:43Speaker 2: see him fight more, want to see him challenge and yeah,
- 32:46Speaker 2: I want to see him really have his skills put
- 32:48Speaker 2: to the test. Great, Well, thank you for that. Inside
- 32:51Speaker 2: jameson from Your Guy Who Knows a Guy Mixed Company
- 32:54Speaker 2: Podcast Exclusive. Now we're going to move on to a
- 32:59Speaker 2: segment that I think it's gonna make for good conversation.
- 33:01Speaker 2: Is called pop Pugilism, a recurring segment in which was
- 33:05Speaker 2: gossay a movie, TV show or documentary about boxing, and
- 33:08Speaker 2: today we're talking about the latter. The movie today is
- 33:10Speaker 2: called Tyson from two thousand and eight, directed by renowned
- 33:15Speaker 2: sex pest James Toback. Usually I do a recap in
- 33:18Speaker 2: the film, but this is one that doesn't need much because, hey,
- 33:20Speaker 2: it's about Mike Tyson, one of the most known, most feared,
- 33:25Speaker 2: most revered, most notorious figures in boxing history. The movie
- 33:30Speaker 2: doesn't have any interviews or talking heads. It's just Mike
- 33:32Speaker 2: telling his own story to camera, GI giving us some
- 33:35Speaker 2: insights into some of the most crucial moments in his life.
- 33:39Speaker 2: Before I give my thoughts, Jamison, give me a little
- 33:42Speaker 2: insight on what you thought about this movie.
- 33:44Speaker 3: So we've seen several Mike Tyson films, documentaries, programming, etc. Etc.
- 33:52Speaker 3: With that being said, we've all seen them in the
- 33:55Speaker 3: way that attack him or make him like a joke,
- 33:58Speaker 3: or make him look like a demon or or a monster.
- 34:02Speaker 3: This one was the rare one that humanized him, which
- 34:04Speaker 3: is very very rare for someone to do because most
- 34:08Speaker 3: people aren't into that. Most people want to sell and
- 34:11Speaker 3: want to make exploit someone. So it was very good
- 34:14Speaker 3: to see a different angle of Mike Tyson's life because
- 34:19Speaker 3: all we've seen from all the boxing stuff, all the
- 34:22Speaker 3: other stuff is Oh he's a monster, Oh he's this,
- 34:24Speaker 3: he's that, and he might be. He very well may be,
- 34:28Speaker 3: but we all know as people, we all have different
- 34:30Speaker 3: sides of this. We all have our good side, our
- 34:33Speaker 3: bad side, with the human side, we have our roofless side.
- 34:36Speaker 3: It was finally good to see his people side, his
- 34:40Speaker 3: human side. He showcased for the masses for change. It
- 34:43Speaker 3: was a refreshing view because if you was to the
- 34:47Speaker 3: media and by that time, unfortunately he had a sexual
- 34:52Speaker 3: assault situation, he went to jail, he had the earbying,
- 34:56Speaker 3: there were so many things that had happened to that
- 34:59Speaker 3: point to where, yeah, you think he's some person that
- 35:01Speaker 3: should be out with civilians, so you would think that
- 35:04Speaker 3: he's a person that probably should not be outside. However,
- 35:08Speaker 3: this paints him many a different lens. And I'm not
- 35:11Speaker 3: saying Mike is perfect. I'm definitely not saying that that
- 35:14Speaker 3: would be disingenuous. However, I think it's an interesting part
- 35:18Speaker 3: to where we have a situation where someone took the
- 35:21Speaker 3: time to really make him look like a human, a
- 35:25Speaker 3: regular human, despite the things and ideas that have been
- 35:29Speaker 3: spread across for it at that point, like what fifteen years,
- 35:33Speaker 3: twenty years, twenty plus years, So it was good to
- 35:36Speaker 3: see a change of pace.
- 35:39Speaker 2: Sure. Now we're thirty nine. You know, Mike Tyson has
- 35:42Speaker 2: been a figure in pulp culture pretty much as long
- 35:44Speaker 2: as we've been alive. We're old enough to remember watching
- 35:47Speaker 2: Mike fight, but maybe not old enough for peak peak
- 35:50Speaker 2: Mike years. And you know, we saw everything, the controversies
- 35:54Speaker 2: and everything that happened afterwards. I'm curious, did you actually
- 35:57Speaker 2: learn anything that you didn't already know about Mike is
- 36:00Speaker 2: especially everybody knows who he is, but especially boxing fans.
- 36:02Speaker 2: I feel like we just were inundated with everything about
- 36:05Speaker 2: this guy for decades.
- 36:08Speaker 3: Mike Tyson sells. That's the one that I've learned over
- 36:11Speaker 3: the years. You put Mike's name next to anything, it
- 36:13Speaker 3: sells hell right now, he's selling weed and gummies ironically, uh,
- 36:17Speaker 3: you know, and mushrooms. He sell mushrooms, I believe as well.
- 36:21Speaker 3: So anything next to his name is gonna have people's interests,
- 36:24Speaker 3: and that interests ain't always genuine, but his name sells
- 36:28Speaker 3: things sell. So with that being said, a lot of
- 36:32Speaker 3: these docks and movies were cash brabs because they they
- 36:36Speaker 3: exploited the ship that people want to see that sells,
- 36:40Speaker 3: not the stuff that makes him a human or a
- 36:43Speaker 3: you know, regular person that has feelings and emotions, But
- 36:46Speaker 3: it was more like, hey, look at the craziness he's done,
- 36:49Speaker 3: or hey, this guy guy's face his face tatted, look
- 36:52Speaker 3: at the look at the freak show, you know what
- 36:54Speaker 3: I mean? Like those are things that were selling. So
- 36:57Speaker 3: anytime you have a Tyson doc or Tyson move or
- 37:00Speaker 3: anything of that nature, it would always sell so vast.
- 37:04Speaker 3: The biggest issue when it came to him.
- 37:07Speaker 2: Right, And I think my question was more like, did
- 37:10Speaker 2: you learn anything about his life and his history that
- 37:12Speaker 2: you didn't know? Because there was a lot of things
- 37:14Speaker 2: that I saw, the things he talked about. He gave
- 37:16Speaker 2: some insights, some behind the scenes on you know, how
- 37:19Speaker 2: pissed he was at Hollyfield during the year, buddy, thing,
- 37:21Speaker 2: this and that, but I don't really feel like it
- 37:24Speaker 2: filled in too many pieces of the puzzle for me.
- 37:26Speaker 2: You know, it was definitely, you know, informative, but I
- 37:30Speaker 2: don't know. Again, like I said, this guy has just
- 37:31Speaker 2: been so permeated POLP culture so much that there was
- 37:37Speaker 2: nothing really that surprised me, that shocked me, that meant,
- 37:39Speaker 2: holy crap, you know, I didn't know about this or
- 37:41Speaker 2: that I think I did. I'm not taking anything away
- 37:45Speaker 2: from him telling a story and giving the insights that
- 37:47Speaker 2: were valuable. But I don't know. I feel like other
- 37:51Speaker 2: documentaries we've talked through, even other narrative films that are
- 37:54Speaker 2: based on real fighters, there's been more things that I go, oh,
- 37:57Speaker 2: that happened really? So yeah, what's That's my question to you?
- 38:01Speaker 2: Is anything about his life that you didn't really know
- 38:04Speaker 2: that came out in this movie?
- 38:07Speaker 3: Yes, No, there's really nothing. I mean, I've pretty much
- 38:10Speaker 3: watched every Mike Tyson movie interview, even the two movies,
- 38:16Speaker 3: you know what I mean, I've watched it all man
- 38:18Speaker 3: like Mike's Mike, and it's one of those things to
- 38:20Speaker 3: where to be honest with you. Yeah, I don't think
- 38:25Speaker 3: there's anything I learned differently down. Plus, I have family
- 38:28Speaker 3: from Brooklyn, so I know, like I know no about mine.
- 38:31Speaker 3: I know no more about him than the average person, so
- 38:33Speaker 3: I didn't necessarily learn more things. Plus ironically, he went
- 38:36Speaker 3: to one of his kids went to a school that
- 38:40Speaker 3: my friend was coaching at. So yeah, I've the scene known,
- 38:46Speaker 3: I've Yeah, I definitely not much I don't know about
- 38:48Speaker 3: Mike Tyson. There was more of a situation where the
- 38:51Speaker 3: way he's covered. I think we treat Mike differently now
- 38:54Speaker 3: than ever before. And this was back in O eight,
- 38:57Speaker 3: so this was different, but noways we treat Mike like
- 39:01Speaker 3: a person. We still get crazy with him at times,
- 39:05Speaker 3: and we also know that, hey, he can still be
- 39:07Speaker 3: crazy at times. But for the most part, the biggest
- 39:12Speaker 3: thing of that was more of just humanizing him and
- 39:15Speaker 3: not looking at him as an object but human. He
- 39:17Speaker 3: was the biggest takeaway, and that's something that I think
- 39:20Speaker 3: we still try to do at times, because yeah, he
- 39:22Speaker 3: will get emotional interviews. Yeah he'll break down and cry.
- 39:25Speaker 3: Yeah he'll break down and want to fight you if
- 39:26Speaker 3: you come out him the wrong way. Why you know.
- 39:28Speaker 3: So it's still those things, but there's not really anything
- 39:31Speaker 3: I learned. It was just more of like I had
- 39:34Speaker 3: never seen a piece that was pro Mike Tyson instead
- 39:38Speaker 3: of pro Dollar if that makes sense.
- 39:40Speaker 2: Yeah, I and I remember, maybe not super vividly, but
- 39:45Speaker 2: I remember the I don't know what would you call it,
- 39:48Speaker 2: just not uproar, but just how people wouldn't shut up
- 39:52Speaker 2: about his facetat and how you know crazy that was
- 39:54Speaker 2: and what And I still remember being like, I don't know,
- 39:58Speaker 2: what's the big deal. I mean, maybe it's because Mexican
- 40:00Speaker 2: and you know, so many people with neck tattoos that
- 40:02Speaker 2: I grew up seeing, you know, with their kids' names
- 40:05Speaker 2: in old English, with a little crown dotting the eye.
- 40:07Speaker 2: That base tattoo wasn't that big of a deal. I've
- 40:09Speaker 2: got friends now that have like that tat sleeves, you know,
- 40:14Speaker 2: all over the back and legs and stuff, and even
- 40:16Speaker 2: back then, it didn't seem like that much of a thing.
- 40:19Speaker 2: What's your take on that? Why was that such a
- 40:21Speaker 2: crazy thing?
- 40:22Speaker 3: Because it was out of random. It wasn't like something
- 40:24Speaker 3: that he had worked on. It wasn't like it was
- 40:26Speaker 3: a small one that turned into a bigger one. It
- 40:29Speaker 3: was literally the whole half of his face. And that's
- 40:34Speaker 3: not normal, especially fifteen years almost twenty years ago. That
- 40:38Speaker 3: wasn't the norm back then. That was way we looked
- 40:41Speaker 3: at this way. We looked at people differently if they
- 40:45Speaker 3: had a face or a neck tattoo back then than
- 40:47Speaker 3: we do today. Like our thoughts and opinions about people
- 40:50Speaker 3: with tattoos are even different today than they were back then.
- 40:53Speaker 3: And you couple that with it being Mike Tyson, all bets.
- 40:56Speaker 2: Are off, okay, And I can see that for maybe
- 41:00Speaker 2: the general public that would make sense. I'm just saying,
- 41:02Speaker 2: and it didn't really strike me as anything too crazy
- 41:06Speaker 2: or outlandish. But that's just me. Also, you know, I
- 41:09Speaker 2: don't know, I do weird shit. I hang around weird people.
- 41:12Speaker 2: Maybe that's just because how I live my life.
- 41:15Speaker 3: Drinks and it's over one hundred degrees and wonder why
- 41:17Speaker 3: I'm tired?
- 41:19Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly, wonder why I'm tired?
- 41:21Speaker 3: What a saying like how much water you are you
- 41:24Speaker 3: having per hour per day and all that stuff.
- 41:27Speaker 2: Well, you know, like they watered down those drinks at
- 41:29Speaker 2: the dive bars. They're not making it all alcohol.
- 41:33Speaker 3: That ain't it? That? Ain't it all?
- 41:35Speaker 2: Right? Well, you know what, there's hydration and whiskey. Right,
- 41:38Speaker 2: it's liquid, so it's got to be helping somewhere or another.
- 41:41Speaker 3: Right, No, No, that's cool, it's cool.
- 41:45Speaker 2: How about this. When I wake up at like two PM,
- 41:49Speaker 2: I do chuck a shit ton of Gatorade, the small ones,
- 41:51Speaker 2: but like a bunch of those.
- 41:53Speaker 3: It's not bad. But you want to stay away from
- 41:54Speaker 3: gatoray because it has a lot of sodium in it,
- 41:56Speaker 3: so it keeps me hot, righting. So I'm just give
- 41:58Speaker 3: your heads up that's all. Okay, Well, drink a who
- 42:01Speaker 3: whole lot water is the best bet water, coconut water,
- 42:04Speaker 3: and pedia.
- 42:05Speaker 2: Like, okay, okay, maybe if I started putting more water
- 42:09Speaker 2: in my dat I can make it to like forty
- 42:11Speaker 2: eight instead of like forty two.
- 42:14Speaker 3: Yeah, it's a few man, he's made it forty, say
- 42:16Speaker 3: more than two years.
- 42:19Speaker 2: Our producer Jurmi just added and said, the icing your
- 42:21Speaker 2: drink doesn't count. That's your body fighting off a stroke.
- 42:26Speaker 3: Oh man.
- 42:27Speaker 2: So I want to keep the conversation about Mike Tyson
- 42:30Speaker 2: going overall, but I do want to pop in with
- 42:32Speaker 2: something about the movie specifically. It had a lot of
- 42:36Speaker 2: like artsy tricks that try to keep it interesting. I
- 42:39Speaker 2: didn't love it. So it had several clips of Mike
- 42:43Speaker 2: Tyson talking over himself like it's a Robert Altman movie
- 42:46Speaker 2: or something, and it would be different panels with different
- 42:49Speaker 2: shots like a comic book. There was shots of Mike
- 42:53Speaker 2: on the beach while he was reciting poems, you know
- 42:56Speaker 2: in voiceover that part. I was following the fuck asleep,
- 43:00Speaker 2: like when they cut to him, I don't know what
- 43:02Speaker 2: he was reading or what he was getting at, or
- 43:04Speaker 2: what James Tobac was getting at I could not give
- 43:06Speaker 2: a shit. I wanted to get back to the stories,
- 43:08Speaker 2: you know, to his insights. It actually reminded me of
- 43:11Speaker 2: when I was in college. I made a stab at
- 43:14Speaker 2: trying to make documentary films with a crappy little handheld camcorder,
- 43:18Speaker 2: and I had a lot of these things made me
- 43:20Speaker 2: think of what I had in my head, like shots
- 43:23Speaker 2: at weird angles while people are talking, kind of arty things.
- 43:26Speaker 2: I would have people interview and like stand over here
- 43:29Speaker 2: and I'd try to put the sun behind their back
- 43:32Speaker 2: or something like that. But then I realized that I
- 43:34Speaker 2: didn't really know how to shoot, light or edit any
- 43:36Speaker 2: of that night. So I had the ambition, but I
- 43:40Speaker 2: didn't have the tools or the talent. But seeing it now,
- 43:44Speaker 2: I'm like, well, that's when my things would have turned
- 43:46Speaker 2: into maybe it's for the best that I kind of
- 43:49Speaker 2: you know, my filmmaking years were very short. But yeah,
- 43:57Speaker 2: but I did appreciate not just the insight, but a
- 44:00Speaker 2: lot of the footage about the fights that Mike was
- 44:02Speaker 2: talking about. Of course, you know, they head his early
- 44:05Speaker 2: years when he would knock out dudes, and like, what
- 44:07Speaker 2: a minute and a half I think I read that
- 44:10Speaker 2: there was like first twelve out of it. Twelve of
- 44:13Speaker 2: his first eighteen fights were first round knockouts in a
- 44:16Speaker 2: minute and a half. What's the we know that people
- 44:20Speaker 2: want to see? KOs I always appreciate a late ko
- 44:24Speaker 2: like ten eleven or twelve round because you have an
- 44:27Speaker 2: exciting fight, competitive fight, and then it's like a twist ending.
- 44:31Speaker 2: Do people really love watch sitting down and anticipating a
- 44:35Speaker 2: ninety second fight? I mean, what, what's what was.
- 44:38Speaker 3: The casual fan? That was for the casual That wasn't
- 44:40Speaker 3: for us, that was for America and the people across
- 44:44Speaker 3: the world because it became a phenomenon. But real boxers
- 44:49Speaker 3: like saying one dominant boxer, wear down the opponent and
- 44:52Speaker 3: closing the show late ten to eleven, twelve round because
- 44:56Speaker 3: you've dominated, you've hit the body, wore down the body,
- 45:00Speaker 3: you've timed everything up, and you've delivered the blow or
- 45:03Speaker 3: the blows to end the show. I think that's what
- 45:06Speaker 3: most boxing fans like to see. If God gets dropped
- 45:10Speaker 3: in the first second round, well shit, we got dressed
- 45:12Speaker 3: up and do all this for a two round fight
- 45:15Speaker 3: that ain't really hit b Like nah, I want to
- 45:17Speaker 3: see a back and forth. I personally like watching boxers
- 45:21Speaker 3: adjustment fight. I'm a big fan of adjusting, changing up
- 45:25Speaker 3: game plans, making the other fighting fight er think. I
- 45:30Speaker 3: like those Excuse me, I like those things more than
- 45:35Speaker 3: anything because you don't learn much from a quick knockout.
- 45:38Speaker 3: You just don't like you don't. Because here's the thing.
- 45:41Speaker 3: I love Tank Davis, but I learned more about him
- 45:44Speaker 3: in his last fight than I did in any other others,
- 45:48Speaker 3: like having to actually go the distance, have a questionable
- 45:52Speaker 3: result that could have went either weigh in some cases,
- 45:55Speaker 3: and you know, he kind of had to dig deep.
- 45:58Speaker 3: He has some niversity in the fight. Some could argue,
- 46:01Speaker 3: you guys should have lost the fight. Those are things
- 46:03Speaker 3: that I personally enjoy more than him drop somebody around him,
- 46:07Speaker 3: dropping somebody around where he doesn't make my like, all right,
- 46:10Speaker 3: it's cool, but it doesn't make me to covete different sure, and.
- 46:15Speaker 2: Bringing up tanks specifically, he has been typically like six
- 46:19Speaker 2: seven eight round knockout artists, which that I do appreciate
- 46:22Speaker 2: because I like when fighters tid to take their time
- 46:24Speaker 2: downloading information, learning about the other guy, then adjusting around them,
- 46:29Speaker 2: kind of hitting in the middle. So Tank is kind
- 46:31Speaker 2: of like ideal. You don't want to go lower than
- 46:34Speaker 2: that I remember, but also it can be very exciting
- 46:37Speaker 2: watching uh Keishawn Davis. I believe it was Valentine's Day,
- 46:43Speaker 2: fourth round knockout against.
- 46:46Speaker 3: That name was banned until money back.
- 46:50Speaker 2: That's true, that's fair.
- 46:51Speaker 3: You know, he can't bring him up. He's unfucked on
- 46:54Speaker 3: a lot of people, and a lot of people are
- 46:55Speaker 3: upset with him, and he robbed some performance in his hometown.
- 46:59Speaker 3: We we can't, okay, I'm.
- 47:03Speaker 2: Okay with this studying that rule this the podcast could
- 47:06Speaker 2: have excommunicados like it's John Wick or some ship. You
- 47:09Speaker 2: know what, let's do key Shawn ex Community cut it
- 47:12Speaker 2: from the podcast. Jake Paul Excamuty cut it from the
- 47:14Speaker 2: podcast as well. Yeah, but yeah, no, I mean, the
- 47:20Speaker 2: the most interesting thing was seeing the the losses. Mike's losses,
- 47:25Speaker 2: first one to Buster Douglas is still one of the
- 47:27Speaker 2: biggest upsets in sports history. Yeah, what what I saw
- 47:32Speaker 2: and actually we talked about it and last episode that
- 47:36Speaker 2: you know, Mike is terrified. Mike will get on the inside.
- 47:39Speaker 2: He'll hit you, hit the body, hit you with a number.
- 47:41Speaker 2: Cut the sentence, dudes of the fucking phantom zone. Yep,
- 47:44Speaker 2: but Buster Douglas and Vander Holyfield did, kept them at
- 47:47Speaker 2: a distance, stopped him from moving forward. He couldn't fight
- 47:50Speaker 2: off the back foot, and they made Mike fight their fight.
- 47:54Speaker 2: And that's that was the key, you know, not that
- 47:57Speaker 2: it's an easy thing to do with something like that,
- 48:00Speaker 2: but that was that was the trick.
- 48:02Speaker 3: I wonder if Buster Douglas doesn't survive that uppercut in
- 48:05Speaker 3: round seven of that fight, I want or what I
- 48:09Speaker 3: don't go off top? I think, I wonder what happens
- 48:12Speaker 3: because then there's no blueprint on beating Mic. Then there's
- 48:15Speaker 3: no hey, do this this and that. You know that,
- 48:22Speaker 3: you know you can follow because if he drops him
- 48:23Speaker 3: around seven or eight, it's just another victim on the lips,
- 48:26Speaker 3: it's just another guy he beats and the show goes on.
- 48:28Speaker 3: But once you lose, there's a blueprint on how to
- 48:30Speaker 3: how to give my problems, how to beat someone. So
- 48:34Speaker 3: that's like one of those what happened what ifs, one
- 48:37Speaker 3: of the great what ifs. If that fight goes different.
- 48:41Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean at the end of the day, obviously
- 48:44Speaker 2: he was going to be unbeatable. I think at some
- 48:46Speaker 2: point if it wasn't Buster Douglas, like maybe somebody would
- 48:49Speaker 2: have cracked the code, but but I don't know. Maybe
- 48:52Speaker 2: he's they maybe somebody had to see Buster Douglas, who,
- 48:57Speaker 2: by the way, won the championship and I think immediately
- 49:00Speaker 2: lost it to somebody else, so he never really became
- 49:03Speaker 2: like a huge name or the biggest star in boxing.
- 49:07Speaker 3: I think it was actually, yeah, right, we're trying to
- 49:10Speaker 3: make Tyson holyyfood back in ninety one, but that we
- 49:13Speaker 3: know obviously went left.
- 49:14Speaker 2: And yeah, yep, just confirmed by our producer it was
- 49:17Speaker 2: holy Field. Yeah, you know, I don't know. The holy
- 49:22Speaker 2: Field clips are very interesting, you know because the first
- 49:25Speaker 2: fight there was really bad headbutt, like buckled Mike's legs.
- 49:29Speaker 2: I think he got a really bad cut. So I
- 49:33Speaker 2: actually rewound the clip on the documentary several times. It
- 49:36Speaker 2: didn't look intentional in that first one. It did look
- 49:39Speaker 2: like just two killers going forward with violent intention. And
- 49:45Speaker 2: another thing, you know, if that hadn't happened, could holy
- 49:48Speaker 2: Field have really kept it up and won that fight?
- 49:51Speaker 2: But again, that coupled with strategy of keeping Mike outside
- 49:55Speaker 2: keep him from getting, you know, into the kitchen. I
- 49:58Speaker 2: don't know, the strategy obviously worked, but yeah, the second fight,
- 50:05Speaker 2: you know Mike was saying those headbutts were intentional because
- 50:08Speaker 2: there were several that's what pissed them off, to bite
- 50:10Speaker 2: the ear off, et cetera. I go back and forth.
- 50:13Speaker 2: I could see where that was a little bit more aimed,
- 50:16Speaker 2: But Mike said, what was Evander Holyfield's head doing behind mine?
- 50:21Speaker 2: He's taller than me, okay, but like he's trying to
- 50:24Speaker 2: keep you from getting inside. He's trying to keep you
- 50:26Speaker 2: from you know, he's trying to get low to neutralize
- 50:29Speaker 2: that you would get in really fast and really strong
- 50:32Speaker 2: and just you know, upper cut the shit out of him.
- 50:34Speaker 2: So I go back and forth on that one. Now,
- 50:39Speaker 2: question few do we think? Do you think Mike is
- 50:42Speaker 2: like the most unique heavinweight fighter? Just if you ask
- 50:45Speaker 2: me any fighter, any heavyweight that's under six feet tall,
- 50:48Speaker 2: Off the top of my head, he's the only one
- 50:50Speaker 2: I can think of. His speed, his strength and speed
- 50:54Speaker 2: is something that really I can't think off the top
- 50:57Speaker 2: of my head, who else I've seen with that combination.
- 51:00Speaker 2: He said that he always like watching the little guys,
- 51:04Speaker 2: which I appreciate because I was a little guy growing
- 51:07Speaker 2: up and that's the fighters that I gravitated toward. Maybe
- 51:09Speaker 2: he watched who list of tennis that would have been dope.
- 51:12Speaker 2: But yeah, I mean who else had that combination of speed,
- 51:17Speaker 2: strength and that much of a height differential.
- 51:22Speaker 3: He's definitely the most unique one we've ever seen, for sure.
- 51:24Speaker 3: I don't think that's the question. Mostly weight chances we've
- 51:27Speaker 3: had have either been bigger guys, taller guys, athletic guys,
- 51:33Speaker 3: especially that in that division heavyweight. Yeah, he's the guy
- 51:37Speaker 3: that forgot hunder six foot for the power he had,
- 51:40Speaker 3: for the quick twitch muscles he had, especially like eighties,
- 51:44Speaker 3: mic is different, different, different, different. If if he could
- 51:49Speaker 3: have stayed focused like he did early on later you know,
- 51:53Speaker 3: going forward, I think we have a different situation. Also,
- 51:56Speaker 3: if he didn't have to go to jail, I think
- 51:57Speaker 3: things are different as well. But you know, things happened
- 52:01Speaker 3: and that's what it is. But just in general, Mike
- 52:05Speaker 3: and his prime is probably the most unique boxer we've
- 52:08Speaker 3: ever had. Because we don't have short heavyweight fighters. That
- 52:13Speaker 3: doesn't matter. Even nowadays, there's no short heavyweight that doesn't
- 52:17Speaker 3: go just doesn't like. He's an anomaly and he got
- 52:20Speaker 3: the most out of what he can do during his
- 52:23Speaker 3: peak of his powers. It just sucks. At his peak
- 52:25Speaker 3: was from like eighty six to ninety. It sucks. Only
- 52:30Speaker 3: we have like an eight to ten year peak. We
- 52:32Speaker 3: had four three and a half four. That's the thing
- 52:35Speaker 3: that sucks. So we didn't get to see him fight
- 52:38Speaker 3: Holyfield ninety one when he was in his peak. He
- 52:40Speaker 3: fought five years later, four or five years later, when
- 52:44Speaker 3: you know, it wasn't his peak.
- 52:46Speaker 2: So yeah, right, And just to clarify, Mike is according
- 52:50Speaker 2: to the enerne's five to ten. So he's not a
- 52:52Speaker 2: little guy by any means.
- 52:54Speaker 3: For every weight he is though, but yeah, his feet,
- 52:57Speaker 3: they have longer arms, they're bigger guy in general. Why
- 53:01Speaker 3: health Tyson Fury now was six', nine you know whatever he.
- 53:05Speaker 3: Is you, Know wilder is six.' seven well he's, not
- 53:10Speaker 3: big but six seven, two thirty which. Is, crazy yeah
- 53:13Speaker 3: he's most of the heat with his. Bigger.
- 53:15Speaker 2: Guys, Yeah yeah and THAT'S what i was. Getting at
- 53:17Speaker 2: it's like compared to the, other heavyweights, you know definitely.
- 53:20Speaker 3: An.
- 53:20Speaker 2: Anomaly yeah first, Of all, I'LL say i don't know
- 53:24Speaker 2: that we'll see a fighter like.
- 53:26Speaker 3: That.
- 53:26Speaker 2: Ever again, you know he was lightning in. A bottle
- 53:30Speaker 2: i don't. Believe that now with, that said there was
- 53:33Speaker 2: a Period like i'd say early is two THOUSANDS when
- 53:37Speaker 2: i started moving away, from boxing from watching boxing or.
- 53:41Speaker 2: FOLLOWING it i doing the show has been so cool
- 53:44Speaker 2: because it's like reconnecting with an old Friend and, i'm
- 53:46Speaker 2: like why did we ever stop talking? Professional boxing? You
- 53:49Speaker 2: know where was the time when the heavyweight division started
- 53:53Speaker 2: moving Away from americans and Mostly? Black americans because now
- 53:57Speaker 2: and there's, been people, you know Coming After tyson fury
- 54:01Speaker 2: fights who have straight up sat on. Multiple, occasions oh
- 54:04Speaker 2: the era of the black heavyweight fighter. Is over with
- 54:07Speaker 2: a little too, much glee, like okay.
- 54:10Speaker 3: At the End Of lynx, lewis's run in the beginning
- 54:13Speaker 3: Of The, clitch goes that's when. Everything changed so they
- 54:16Speaker 3: went From The clitch goes to basically what we. See
- 54:20Speaker 3: now so that's why even Though with wilder and to a,
- 54:25Speaker 3: Certain extent joshua you know is basically, you know that's,
- 54:30Speaker 3: Basically YEAH like i, would say the End Of lynox
- 54:35Speaker 3: lewis is when. Everything changed and he's Not. An american He's,
- 54:40Speaker 3: making british so that's a whole. Different thing even though
- 54:43Speaker 3: he's a cool dude, in person really actually really dope
- 54:46Speaker 3: person is off to but, but yeah that's kind of when.
- 54:49Speaker 3: Things changed the clitch goes, changed everything.
- 54:53Speaker 2: Got, it yeah that's that's about a little a little
- 54:56Speaker 2: Era where I'm where i'm fuzzy and, you know the
- 54:59Speaker 2: kind of name run together and the air run together
- 55:01Speaker 2: and just a. Little nebulous, You know i've kind of
- 55:04Speaker 2: dipped in and out of boxing fandom most of. My
- 55:08Speaker 2: life but that's really interesting to learn because it's so.
- 55:12Speaker 2: Vastly different, you know that was that, was clear so
- 55:15Speaker 2: very clearly dominated in. The nineties, you know the black,
- 55:18Speaker 2: Heavyweight fighter american. Heavyweight fighters but, you know. WHO knows
- 55:23Speaker 2: i don't know who could be Another? Black american are
- 55:28Speaker 2: just black fighter who could be a. Heavyweight CHAMPION but
- 55:32Speaker 2: i don't see a lot. OF prospects i don't see
- 55:34Speaker 2: a lot of potential. Out there, You Know, deontay was
- 55:36Speaker 2: it's good To have deonta in, the mix but we
- 55:39Speaker 2: already said he's not going To be he's nobody's.
- 55:41Speaker 3: Champion. Anymore, right also people don't find. No more white
- 55:46Speaker 3: kids don't fight. No more so it's hard to get
- 55:49Speaker 3: a guy that's six, foot three two hundred and. Fifty
- 55:52Speaker 3: pounds that person's, playing football so it's. Just, hard like
- 55:57Speaker 3: it's not we don't raise boxers more. Like that if
- 56:00Speaker 3: we do, their young their smaller guys or. Not heavyweights
- 56:03Speaker 3: if a guy's athletic and he's, a heavyweight he's probably playing.
- 56:07Speaker 3: Basketball football that's a really.
- 56:09Speaker 2: Good point and again that's Something that i've always, connected
- 56:12Speaker 2: To and i've never really connected as much with the
- 56:15Speaker 2: heavyweight division Because like i'm, five NINE and i, WAS
- 56:18Speaker 2: like i, don't know like one hundred and thirty pounds,
- 56:20Speaker 2: in college So now i'm way more. Than that but
- 56:23Speaker 2: that's we don't have to worry. About that that's. Nobody's,
- 56:25Speaker 2: Business alcohol.
- 56:29Speaker 3: That's that's what.
- 56:30Speaker 2: You get, Hold on, HOLD ON i i drink a
- 56:33Speaker 2: lot of booze AND then i eat a lot of late,
- 56:35Speaker 2: night tacos AND then i pee and poop, a lot like,
- 56:36Speaker 2: for hours, And, That okay I'm getting i'm shedding that Weight,
- 56:42Speaker 2: right like that's how. It works it goes right. Through
- 56:44Speaker 2: me so it's basically like a. Net zero, come, On,
- 56:47Speaker 2: right okay.
- 56:48Speaker 3: Fair enough?
- 56:48Speaker 2: Fair enough, oh anyway so last Question on MIKE that
- 56:55Speaker 2: i have for for the. Group here, you know how
- 56:58Speaker 2: do you see? His legacy, you know after the after
- 57:01Speaker 2: the time and after that really rough period when, you
- 57:04Speaker 2: know they showed that clip of Him against OH like
- 57:07Speaker 2: i don't remember in two thousand, and two and he
- 57:09Speaker 2: just said he got. Knocked down he looked like an, old,
- 57:11Speaker 2: man said my heart's not. IN it i just needed
- 57:13Speaker 2: to pay. The bills who?
- 57:15Speaker 3: Was that do? You remember not until though? Too, right
- 57:20Speaker 3: no it was.
- 57:21Speaker 2: After that it was the one where he was, just
- 57:23Speaker 2: like because he haven't he couldn't get a boxing license for.
- 57:27Speaker 3: A while THAT'S why i was an Entheus Because new
- 57:30Speaker 3: York nor vegas would give a. Boxing license so that's
- 57:33Speaker 3: why he was At the Pyramid. In, Memphis uh, KEVIN
- 57:36Speaker 3: McBride i think is what you.
- 57:37Speaker 2: Referred, to, yes yes THAT'S what. I think and he
- 57:41Speaker 2: he just said straight UP like i didn't really want.
- 57:43Speaker 2: TO fight i just got bills. To pay he had.
- 57:45Speaker 3: A lot of, TAX issues a lot of.
- 57:47Speaker 2: Tax. Issues yeah but then we got a comeback in
- 57:51Speaker 2: pop culture because Of the. HANGOVER movie i might have
- 57:54Speaker 2: been in the, sequels too had an adult, swim Cartoon The. Tyson.
- 57:59Speaker 2: Mysteries yeah now. SELLING weed i didn't know he. SOLD
- 58:02Speaker 2: mushrooms i know he. Sold, weed uh he's didn't he
- 58:05Speaker 2: sell edibles with The vander holyfield and they were shaped
- 58:08Speaker 2: like in. The, air yeah the. Ear edibles, So yeah
- 58:12Speaker 2: mike is, you know, he's back but he's been through
- 58:14Speaker 2: some up and. Down periods what's what's your take on?
- 58:17Speaker 2: His legacy, after all that didn't. Tarnish anything so.
- 58:21Speaker 3: This country does a good job of building, you up
- 58:24Speaker 3: to tear you down and then build you back up
- 58:26Speaker 3: again when they feel. Like IT and i think he
- 58:29Speaker 3: was a prime example because he didn't have no one in.
- 58:31Speaker 3: This corner there was no one that had his best interest.
- 58:35Speaker 3: At heart along the way After customer, will died everyone
- 58:38Speaker 3: was there to make money off of him and profit,
- 58:40Speaker 3: off him besides seeing his actual best interest. At Heart
- 58:44Speaker 3: now i'm not saying he, was perfect because. He wasn't
- 58:46Speaker 3: he ate a lot of self. Destructive, things however there
- 58:49Speaker 3: was never a person, that Said hey, Mike Chill hey.
- 58:52Speaker 3: Mike focused everybody was there for the. Gravy train the
- 58:55Speaker 3: money was, going well, the money, the liquor, the drugs
- 58:57Speaker 3: and everything was. Going well and we're all out here
- 59:00Speaker 3: when you see the when you see him go back
- 59:02Speaker 3: to that locker Room in tokyo, and ninety it's a
- 59:05Speaker 3: different thing and that never never really recovered. From that
- 59:11Speaker 3: myself and the producer always joke About, the tyson, you
- 59:14Speaker 3: Know the, tyson uppercut because sometimes people, don't recover, and
- 59:20Speaker 3: unfortunately he didn't have the support staff. To recover he
- 59:23Speaker 3: didn't have the infrastructure from within to get, over. That
- 59:27Speaker 3: unfortunately and that's just. What happened is one of those
- 59:30Speaker 3: things to where it sucked because back then we didn't
- 59:33Speaker 3: view things like we. Do now we don't think about
- 59:35Speaker 3: the full picture as we. Do now back things like,
- 59:37Speaker 3: oh shit, he lost he must be, a loser, he's terrible,
- 59:41Speaker 3: blah blah and now we actually do a deeper diving
- 59:43Speaker 3: the thing of why do, he lose, what happened how
- 59:46Speaker 3: could this? Been avoided, et cetera. Et cetera so this
- 59:49Speaker 3: country build it up to him to be some superhero angry.
- 59:53Speaker 3: Man too then the sexual assault, thing happens he goes,
- 59:58Speaker 3: to jail and then he comes out, of jail he
- 1:00:01Speaker 3: fights and He bites. Vanner's ear so now all this
- 1:00:04Speaker 3: craziness happens within, a decade and then the, next thing,
- 1:00:07Speaker 3: you know you basically have to fight until, you can't
- 1:00:11Speaker 3: and then he becomes a sympathetic figure because he's broke
- 1:00:14Speaker 3: and he's, worn down you KNOW what. I mean so
- 1:00:16Speaker 3: now we look at him. Way differently the we're not
- 1:00:19Speaker 3: gonna think of him as the unruly black man like
- 1:00:22Speaker 3: you would have thirty. Years ago there's way more sympathetic two.
- 1:00:26Speaker 3: Things now but still He Trees. Mike tyson. He's crazy
- 1:00:31Speaker 3: the first thing you Think Of mike tyson and. He's,
- 1:00:32Speaker 3: crazy unfortunately that's how it's going. To be i'm not saying,
- 1:00:35Speaker 3: it's right but you think of crazy when you Bring Up.
- 1:00:38Speaker 3: Mike tyson whether it's fair. OR not i don't make,
- 1:00:40Speaker 3: the rules but that's the first thing you think of,
- 1:00:43Speaker 3: is like, oh shits something crazy must.
- 1:00:45Speaker 2: Have Happened, right well in, THESE days, i mean he
- 1:00:51Speaker 2: is more of just like a, clownish figure not even
- 1:00:54Speaker 2: the way, he behaves the way people. See, him again
- 1:00:56Speaker 2: he's got, a cartoon he's. Selling weed it's just kind
- 1:00:59Speaker 2: of more of a. Silly guy and he's he's definitely
- 1:01:02Speaker 2: become less of a of, a terrifying, feared figure though
- 1:01:05Speaker 2: we still probably should. Be here here's the thing too about.
- 1:01:09Speaker 2: THE uh, i know We Excommunicado, Jake paul so we're
- 1:01:13Speaker 2: gonna excommunicado His brother Logan. Pu yeah, oh, wait sorry
- 1:01:18Speaker 2: MY mad i was gonna Say That Tyson, Logan palfi
- 1:01:21Speaker 2: but that's not what happened. At, all no that's HOW
- 1:01:23Speaker 2: little i care. About, that, no, no yeah that last
- 1:01:26Speaker 2: thing that bummed, Me OUT and I remember i talked
- 1:01:29Speaker 2: about on the show because that was like our. Second
- 1:01:31Speaker 2: episode maybe when. That happened there friends of mine who are, just, like,
- 1:01:36Speaker 2: NO man i gotta go Back see mike in. THE
- 1:01:38Speaker 2: ring i gotta. Watch it, but honestly do you let?
- 1:01:40Speaker 3: Shit?
- 1:01:40Speaker 2: Go, man sometimes just let. Shit go Let let mike
- 1:01:43Speaker 2: be the. Weed guy let, him be, you know the
- 1:01:46Speaker 2: the comedy, movie guy and just stop stop trying to
- 1:01:49Speaker 2: reach for. The past we can't go. Back again, you
- 1:01:52Speaker 2: know we're all of our our knees probably aren't gonna
- 1:01:54Speaker 2: start unhurting the. Older weekend so let's let Let the
- 1:02:00Speaker 2: mike's legacy live where. It was go back and watch
- 1:02:02Speaker 2: those fights and you know there everything's on. YouTube nowadays
- 1:02:05Speaker 2: i appreciate where, he was and then, also appreciate, you
- 1:02:08Speaker 2: know We wouldn't we learned more from our losses than from.
- 1:02:10Speaker 2: Our wins appreciate what it took to bring that.
- 1:02:13Speaker 3: Bad down and he. Multiple losses so here's. The thing
- 1:02:17Speaker 3: YOU and i have, private losses go to. Regular people
- 1:02:21Speaker 3: so our losses are within they very readily. Get shared
- 1:02:24Speaker 3: all his loss all his most embarrassing moments came in the.
- 1:02:27Speaker 3: Public Eye the tokyo thing happened in front of thousands,
- 1:02:30Speaker 3: of people millions across. The world the earbodying thing happened
- 1:02:34Speaker 3: ON live tv thirty, years ago damn near and. Everybody's
- 1:02:38Speaker 3: watching and then if you, weren't watching you instantly got
- 1:02:41Speaker 3: a phone call or page, Talking, about hey did you
- 1:02:44Speaker 3: see or hear what? Just happened and it was all over,
- 1:02:47Speaker 3: every newspaper every new every news channel in this world
- 1:02:51Speaker 3: was showing the. Earbody incident and there's a famous picture
- 1:02:57Speaker 3: that you see on the ring that Basically. Divides tyson
- 1:03:01Speaker 3: there's a bunch, of Cops L metro pd cops and
- 1:03:04Speaker 3: holy feel because he had just bet that man's either, and,
- 1:03:08Speaker 3: yeah man It, Was yeah i'll never that's that's one
- 1:03:11Speaker 3: of those EVENTS where, I knew i KNOW where, I
- 1:03:13Speaker 3: was i KNOW where i watched the, FIGHT that i
- 1:03:15Speaker 3: KNOW who i, WAS with i. Knew everything i'll never forget.
- 1:03:18Speaker 2: That Night never i'd remember. That WELL but i did
- 1:03:22Speaker 2: watch it live with my family with the black cable
- 1:03:24Speaker 2: box that my dad had back in. The, day yeah.
- 1:03:28Speaker 2: You're right it Was everywhere Late, that letterman, you know
- 1:03:31Speaker 2: all those GUYS.
- 1:03:32Speaker 3: In, Cnsbc fox it was everywhere that had an outlook
- 1:03:37Speaker 3: that all people were. Talking about and it was a
- 1:03:39Speaker 3: pay per view fight back in the day when you
- 1:03:40Speaker 3: had to actually either have a legal cable or you
- 1:03:43Speaker 3: bought the pay per.
- 1:03:43Speaker 2: View and you had to, call, in right he had
- 1:03:45Speaker 2: to call in and give a code for.
- 1:03:46Speaker 3: THE day i remember. That online you had to call
- 1:03:51Speaker 3: in his weight and, then, yeah, yep.
- 1:03:54Speaker 2: Man We, watched, YEAH no I mean i, really appreciated,
- 1:03:59Speaker 2: you know, the movie kind Of letting mike speak. FOR
- 1:04:01Speaker 2: himself i always, think, that oh just a couple couple
- 1:04:05Speaker 2: of class quick things on the movie before we.
- 1:04:07Speaker 3: Head.
- 1:04:07Speaker 2: OUT uh i wish he talked more About, don king
- 1:04:11Speaker 2: because we did a talked about A don king movie,
- 1:04:14Speaker 2: last time AND he, i WROTE and i wrote some.
- 1:04:17Speaker 2: Things down he called a wretched, a reptilian said he
- 1:04:20Speaker 2: would kill his mother for. A, dollar despicable, you know
- 1:04:23Speaker 2: he went on a rent and then just it didn't
- 1:04:25Speaker 2: come back, to, It HONESTLY and i kind of wanted
- 1:04:28Speaker 2: more from his his side of it in, that movie
- 1:04:31Speaker 2: people don't like.
- 1:04:31Speaker 3: Reliving Trauma don king brings a lot of Trauma To mike.
- 1:04:34Speaker 3: Tyson's life he's trying to take him. A Court don
- 1:04:38Speaker 3: king has done a lot of. Boxers wrong it's the
- 1:04:40Speaker 3: reason Why That don king doesn't have any fighters Today
- 1:04:42Speaker 3: And bob. Aaron does i'm Not saying Bob aarm is
- 1:04:45Speaker 3: is any Better Than don king's. Probably, worse however it
- 1:04:49Speaker 3: shows how things have gone over. The years usually when
- 1:04:53Speaker 3: you do, people wrong eventually that work gets out and
- 1:04:57Speaker 3: you know it is what it. Is, Now again i'm
- 1:04:59Speaker 3: not OUVKAY from i think he's. Terrible too they're all. The,
- 1:05:02Speaker 3: same however it's it definitely means Something that doc he don't,
- 1:05:06Speaker 3: have nobody he don't have a single boxer and top
- 1:05:09Speaker 3: rank is still. Top ranked kind of tells the full
