- 0:00Baby bound Bow banger management fantasy hockey podcast.
- 0:04Woo woo tools today. Yeah.
- 0:07Welcome and everybody to Bangor Management the Fantasy Hockey
- 0:11Podcast with Kevin and Josh. It is the week 22 news and
- 0:17updates plus the famous would you rathers on this episode.
- 0:21We are only two today. Jakey is caught up with some
- 0:24work stuff, but. He is actually still still
- 0:27hungover from the absolute crazy Bender he went on after winning
- 0:30the quarterfinals against the the number one seed.
- 0:32He essentially, if you remember Nikita Kucherov after winning
- 0:36the Stanley Cup, you know, shirtless chug and beers.
- 0:38Yeah, that's pretty much what happened with Jakey, especially
- 0:40because he had control and his team, so he just was trying to
- 0:43emulate him. So.
- 0:44So yeah, they still recovering. So that's why it's just the two
- 0:46of. Us so he he might miss this
- 0:48episode he might miss the next episode as well We'll see how
- 0:50hard the hangover is but as always, at least you have the
- 0:53two best hosts here to provide you with the best information
- 0:56possible for your fantasy matchups yeah Jackie, Jackie,
- 0:59I've never seen him happier than he was the last few days.
- 1:02It looked like on the Wednesday his matchup was over and he was
- 1:05going to be like the the top ranked seed, which is crazy.
- 1:08I mean hopefully if we have any 8 seeds or 6 seeds in our Bangor
- 1:12community that you guys were able to also defeat your first
- 1:15seed counterparts. But yeah, what a match up.
- 1:20Josh, how do you, how are you feeling?
- 1:21I have to go to to do it. I know it's been a roller
- 1:23coaster of emotions the last few days.
- 1:25Yeah, Well, this is officially the worst fantasy season I've
- 1:28ever been a part of, so I've never been eliminated this early
- 1:30before. I've always said, well, I've
- 1:33played. This is my sixth year playing.
- 1:35I've won. I won the first four years and
- 1:37then last year I got eliminated in semis and this year in the
- 1:40quarter function, I played one year before joining the like in
- 1:44a different league and I won that one.
- 1:46So it still counts. But but yeah, so so now I got
- 1:49eliminated This year I lost dry saddle the day before playoffs.
- 1:53I lost McDavid and Scalabrini to, you know, I don't know what
- 1:56you would call it, them deciding to be the worst versions of
- 1:59themselves for a week. Yeah, hard to come back from.
- 2:02So no, it was a pretty brutal week.
- 2:03My opponent I don't think had a good team or managed it well,
- 2:07but it got very lucky. And clearly I'm still salty
- 2:09about it because I have only bad things to say about their team.
- 2:13So, um, yeah, no, I'm, I'm obviously upset about it, but
- 2:18ready to bounce back for next year, starting to take some
- 2:20notes for, you know, my plans for next year's draft.
- 2:24I'm excited to overreact extremely hard for next year's
- 2:27draft. I will not be drafting a single
- 2:29goalie. I've said that multiple times.
- 2:30I am willing to put even though like McDavid and celebrity are
- 2:35like my two number one enemies after last week's the real, I
- 2:38think the real player that cost me my entire season is Darcy
- 2:41Kemper, mainly because I drafted him in the eighth round and he
- 2:43said he was just full year. So look, I learned my lesson.
- 2:45This is the one year I tried not to go 0G and true burned by it
- 2:49and I'll never do it again. So anyways, that's that's enough
- 2:51of my rambling. But I'm look, I'll be honest,
- 2:54the last thing I wanted to do after getting eliminated in this
- 2:57fashion is come and talk fantasy hockey.
- 2:59Just like the one time a year where like I it's not all I want
- 3:01to talk about, but you know, I know the viewers listeners want
- 3:06to see me crash out live. So.
- 3:08I don't think they want to see you crash out honestly.
- 3:10You had a lot of support in the discord.
- 3:11Like I know, I know this Sunday was tough and honestly Sunday
- 3:15was just me alone talking in the group chat, basically having my
- 3:18own crash out from my matchup. Um, I felt really bad the next
- 3:21morning looking at the text. I was like, oh boy, like I
- 3:23really went hard. But but but it was like, I
- 3:27already mentioned some of it in the discord.
- 3:28But also to Joshua's credit though, like he built an
- 3:31extremely good team. And The thing is like, I don't
- 3:34think Josh made any mistakes. It's just one of those things
- 3:37like I heard people in discord too, like, you know, they closed
- 3:39the whole year. They had the best team by far.
- 3:41And then, you know, I know some of you guys got eliminated and
- 3:43against like the last place team that made the playoffs.
- 3:46And you're just like, there's no way this matchup should be even
- 3:49remotely close. And somehow, like all the bad
- 3:51things happen and all the good things happen and you end up
- 3:54losing your match and it's devastating.
- 3:55Like those are the ones that hurt the most because, you know,
- 3:57it feels like undeserved. It feels like you did everything
- 3:59right. You were set up for success and
- 4:01the fantasy gods had their say and for some reason they they
- 4:04hated us. And yeah, those are the ones
- 4:07that sting. So I've been.
- 4:08Definitely tough, cause like, I don't think there's ever gonna
- 4:11be another year where I have McDavid, Draisaitl, Celebrity
- 4:14and Pasternack on the same team, you know, like.
- 4:16That you never know. Never.
- 4:18Look, it's definitely possible, but I think it's highly
- 4:21unlikely. So this is one of the biggest
- 4:22star-studded rosters I ever had. So kind of brutal to lose like
- 4:26that. But that's fantasy, baby.
- 4:28And and also like if if you are in the same situation as Josh, I
- 4:34know it feels bad, but like you also gotta like the way that I
- 4:38would reassure myself is that like, no, you did everything
- 4:40right and it was just out of your control.
- 4:42You're literally unlucky. And in all fantasy sports is
- 4:44always a luck component. And that's what makes the high
- 4:47so high in the low so low to a certain degree.
- 4:51Listen, as long as you make all the good things, some things are
- 4:53out of your control is nothing you can do about it.
- 4:55You just have to like take it on the chin and and try not to get
- 4:58too mental spiral and be like, oh, if I did this, if I did
- 5:01that, you did all the right things.
- 5:03And sometimes the fantasy guys have their say, but absolutely.
- 5:06I mean, the fantasy gods, I think protected me just a little
- 5:09bit, just like just enough in my matchup.
- 5:11But I posted in the discord, ended up winning the matchup 87
- 5:14while losing shutouts, Pimms and shorties, which are the three
- 5:19most volatile stats. All of those went to my opponent
- 5:22should have technically been like a like 8-4 or like a 8 five
- 5:25thing like should not have been that close.
- 5:28If if Grieves would have let in one more goal on Sunday, I would
- 5:31have lost my match up. And that's because Sorokin ended
- 5:34up getting a shutout. Like I projected on the podcast,
- 5:36I was like, I'll be fine as long as broken doesn't get a shout
- 5:39out. He got a shout out on a
- 5:40back-to-back he wasn't supposed to play.
- 5:43Oh, that's crazy. It is crazy.
- 5:46It it, it did me. They did me dirty.
- 5:47And then I went into the after that shut out, I was like, OK,
- 5:50as long as Jack McBain doesn't get 12 hits, I'm good.
- 5:54He ended the game and I think 9 or 10 hits, which is the fact
- 5:56that it was that close. I was like staring at my monitor
- 5:59being like, could you just bench him?
- 6:00Like you need to score goals. Don't put this guy on the ice
- 6:02anymore. You know, a lot of a lot of
- 6:05crazy. A lot of crazy stuff happened.
- 6:07That's weird stuff. Yeah.
- 6:10But we made it. I am now in the semifinals.
- 6:13I'm my team was optimized for the semifinals.
- 6:15I have like a lot of good Rangers off tonight.
- 6:17I have the Ottawa, I have the Ottawa trio on my team battles
- 6:20and ketchup and cousin. So hopefully they carry me to
- 6:23victory. But no easy matchups left four
- 6:25teams and it's always 4 strong teams.
- 6:27We we went into the playoffs thinking 8 teams could have won
- 6:29the league. Like it was one of those years
- 6:31for our league. So hopefully everybody looking
- 6:33forward to your management league next year because it's
- 6:36gonna be just as exciting. You thought more exciting.
- 6:38Like we had some guys in our league of record kind of like,
- 6:39you know, bow out near the end of the season where they kind of
- 6:41gave up. I know the anger management
- 6:43community is not gonna let that happen so.
- 6:45No, if it does, we'll shame you live on that.
- 6:48Yeah, roast you on the podcast. Exactly.
- 6:52But honestly, I think those are gonna be super competitive.
- 6:55Like I talked about it. We're gonna try to find the
- 6:56structure that works, but we're talking about a relegation
- 6:58system. I don't know if you saw that
- 6:59conversation, Josh, and the Discord, but I was, yeah, no
- 7:02putting the idea out there for like, you know, maybe we make a
- 7:05tier based divisions and you know, if you finish in the top
- 7:08three of your league, you get brought up to the top division,
- 7:10you finish in the bottom three, you get brought down to the
- 7:12division. So a relegation system is always
- 7:14good incentive to have guys like across the board, you know,
- 7:17whether you're in first or last. Tank or anything?
- 7:18Yeah, exactly, cause you want to try to avoid getting relegated.
- 7:21So good things up in the works though.
- 7:23When we have more information I'll let you guys know, but I
- 7:26think it's time to get into the news.
- 7:28But before that preface, listen, we're 8 minutes into the podcast
- 7:33and we haven't even talked about the discord server, so I'm
- 7:35already in there. Please join.
- 7:37The link is in the description or the video description or
- 7:41wherever you're watching or listening to this, it's there.
- 7:43Click on the link, join the discord.
- 7:45I'm giving night and day all the tips you need to win your
- 7:48fantasy playoffs. Listen, I don't want to brag,
- 7:50but I keep seeing people in the comments being like, Oh my God,
- 7:52thank you so much for me to pick up.
- 7:53This guy single handedly won my match up.
- 7:55So if you want to be part of that and when you're matchup,
- 7:57I'm just saying the link is below if you haven't already
- 8:00followed or rated or what, but just hit that button.
- 8:03Rate 5 stars. We really appreciate the
- 8:05support, trying to go to community and help everybody win
- 8:07their matchups. Yeah, and if you don't see me in
- 8:10there for the next couple of days, it's I'm grieving and you
- 8:13know, I'll get back in there and that helps support Kevin in a in
- 8:16answering all your questions. But yeah, let's and also another
- 8:19added incentive for the Discord is for when we start these
- 8:22banger management links and stuff, whether we're, you know,
- 8:24like organizing it in there or we're getting signups or just
- 8:28talking about it throughout the course of the season.
- 8:29It's going to be really cool. So it's gonna be fun.
- 8:31So definitely even more incentive to join for the end of
- 8:34this season and for the start of next season.
- 8:36And also anyways shout out to those in the discord.
- 8:39I made the that joined the Fantasy Baseball Bangor
- 8:42management league. We had our draft Sunday night
- 8:44falls drafting while watching my team like slowly lose and then
- 8:48ended up winning. But thank you to to the Commish
- 8:53Shepard commander who made everything happen.
- 8:56It was so hard to find a draft time for 14 people across
- 8:59multiple different time zones right before the baseball season
- 9:02starts starts on Wednesday. So I'm glad we had that done.
- 9:05I'm looking forward to competing in baseball with the with 13
- 9:08other crazy 13 other ones. Interview Now in anger
- 9:12management leagues, you're in a baseball one, you're in an F1,
- 9:15right? That's what's happening.
- 9:18Do you have Do you have any others yet or?
- 9:19No, just, I mean, listen, next year hockey, maybe we'll do some
- 9:23football next year. I don't know if I'm pretty sure.
- 9:26I feel there's always a lot of people that wanna play fantasy
- 9:28football. So maybe we'll get some anger
- 9:29management. Football.
- 9:30If you want people to play fantasy F1 with you, you're not
- 9:33gonna have any issue finding people to play fantasy football.
- 9:35And even though the one season has started, if you're
- 9:37interested in joining, it's never too late.
- 9:39You can always join. You'll be, you know, a couple of
- 9:41race weeks behind, but still a lot of fun.
- 9:43I'm currently in 3rd place, just putting it out there out of 10,
- 9:46so we'll see. Nice.
- 9:48Alright, I think that's enough profile change a lot of let's
- 9:50just dive into what's been going on around the league over the
- 9:54past week. So let's start with some
- 9:56injuries. Corrill the thrill.
- 9:59Kaprizov is day-to-day from Minnesota.
- 10:01Tarasenko is taking his spot on power play one.
- 10:03Also on Minnesota. Erickson Eck is day-to-day.
- 10:05Ryan Hartman taking his vampire play one.
- 10:07This is the second year in a row that Kaprizov and Erickson Eck
- 10:10dip out for fantasy playoffs. I'm wondering like, maybe this
- 10:15is just me being like frustrated with the dry side, alright,
- 10:17doing it back-to-back years, but now here's another two players,
- 10:19including Capris, who's another like elite player doing it
- 10:22back-to-back years. Like is there like a point where
- 10:24you avoid certain guys here? Like it seems like every year at
- 10:26the end of the season they get shut down?
- 10:28Or is that just the same thing as like how we talk about, you
- 10:30know, certain guys getting injured throughout the year?
- 10:31It's just it's random and it is what it is.
- 10:34It will never be me avoiding certain players for injury or
- 10:36whatever. I mean, I understand some people
- 10:38that are like truly risk averse, but The thing is you can be risk
- 10:41averse and it can still happen to you.
- 10:42So I'm pretty much a risk averse manager.
- 10:45Like, you know, I drafted guys in the top three rounds that
- 10:47have never been hurt in their career.
- 10:49This year they got hurt like Brady and the Trocheck.
- 10:51So you could try to avoid it and stumble into it anyway.
- 10:54So might as well just pick the guy you think best and and roll
- 10:57with it. It really sucks that Capris off
- 10:58and Ericsson Neckar, you know this is happening to them in the
- 11:01fantasy players. But I did see this morning they
- 11:03were practicing, but it was just like we're not sure if they're
- 11:05going to play. So it's just one of those
- 11:08situations you have to monitor. Yeah, I feel like this is like
- 11:12we talked about, you know, the situations where players get
- 11:14injured or like banged up a little before playoffs and their
- 11:17teams in a comfortable playoff position and they're just like,
- 11:19we have nothing to play for. So why would we risk anything
- 11:21with our like, top guys? So I don't think they're in any
- 11:23rush to bring these guys back. Like they're they're third place
- 11:26in the vision is pretty much secure.
- 11:27Like no one's coming to pass them and they're not going to
- 11:29pass the top two guys. So I feel like they literally
- 11:31have nothing to play for, which is kind of the worst spot to be
- 11:33for fantasy assets. If you're in a fantasy league
- 11:36with no IR plus, are you dropping both of these guys?
- 11:39I'm not dropping the price off because if you come back,
- 11:41they're like the finals or whatever, like it's just too
- 11:43valuable. I would drop Erickson Eck.
- 11:44Though, Yep, Eric, enemies drop somebody right before we started
- 11:48recording asked me like they were like during a Yahoo Public
- 11:50League. So I would say like, quote, UN
- 11:51quote, maybe less competitive than usual.
- 11:53And he's on a bye week this week.
- 11:55Yeah. And he asked if he should drop
- 11:56Caprisa for it was like a Mulkin or something.
- 12:00And I was like, like, I know he's hurt.
- 12:02He was at practice this morning. Like there's no way in my mind
- 12:04that you can drop Kaprizov because if he comes back, he's
- 12:07extremely more valuable. Anyone else that you're gonna
- 12:09find on waivers, especially if you're on a bye week of the
- 12:11luxury of waiting extra week and having that information to know
- 12:14if he's going to play or not. If come Sunday they're like he's
- 12:16still day-to-day or whatever and you're going into your you know,
- 12:18semifinal matchup or your finals matchup and you're like, OK, I
- 12:21don't have the information is going to play.
- 12:23We reassess then with who's available on your waivers and
- 12:26you know how deep you're league is.
- 12:27But right now I don't think you can do.
- 12:30No, no way. I mean, you drop him and then he
- 12:31gets healthy and then your opponent picks him up and you
- 12:33just gave your opponent yourself.
- 12:34Like, that's that's crazy. Yeah.
- 12:36Anyways, let's move on to the next one.
- 12:37How do you feel? About trying to pull other guys
- 12:39though like the terrorizing the Hartman, them getting the
- 12:41deployment boost. I mean, The thing is that
- 12:43Minnesota has like a garbage playoff schedule.
- 12:45Yeah. And it was just being over that
- 12:48like a lot of times also like when a player like replace
- 12:52someone on power play one, if the player they're replacing is
- 12:55the reason that that power play is good in the 1st place, then
- 12:58it removes a lot of that value. So that's not the case of their
- 13:01connect with Kaprizov. Like obviously Quinn Hughes is a
- 13:03math and bolt here like amazing. Like this reason the play so
- 13:05good. There's so many players, but
- 13:07Capris obviously the guy, right? So losing Kaprizov inherently
- 13:10makes that power play worse. Losing price of anarchy and
- 13:12neck. Now two of your five guys are
- 13:14Tarasenko and Hartman. It's a lot less exciting.
- 13:16But power play also like the Minnesota team is kind of just
- 13:19slumping right now. Bad playoff schedule.
- 13:21I'm not in any rush to grab these guys.
- 13:23If they had a better playoff schedule, then I would say
- 13:25differently. Like if they had the Rangers
- 13:27schedule, I'd be like, yeah, it's a no brainer, but there's a
- 13:30chance you grab these guys. You can't even play them this
- 13:31week. Yeah.
- 13:32I mean, the schedule this week is really peculiar, right?
- 13:35Like hopefully you guys listen to our waiver episode that came
- 13:37out on Sunday morning, but it feels like there's only three
- 13:40games this week that have games pretty much so.
- 13:42Yeah, Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday.
- 13:43All those days like you're probably benching a lot of guys
- 13:47because everybody's playing unless your rosters are super
- 13:49deep. So that's why the offsets are
- 13:51super valuable to have this week.
- 13:52And, you know, Minnesota got none of those and they just got,
- 13:54you know, three games on the three heaviest nights.
- 13:56So are you gonna play Tarasenko over any of the guys that are
- 13:58already in office you been holding all year?
- 14:00Probably not. Yeah.
- 14:02I will say terror signals the only one that kind of interests
- 14:04me just because I know like he's had some value in the past where
- 14:06he's, you know, gotten that power play on the exposure.
- 14:09Yeah. So he could maybe do something
- 14:11with it, but I'm not like he's not gonna be better than the
- 14:14other guys are available for games.
- 14:16Yeah, exactly. Alright, Tyler to Foley of the
- 14:19Sharks is day-to-day with an injury.
- 14:21William Eckland. This is powerfully 1 replacement
- 14:23exciting for Gavin. And honestly, this is one of
- 14:24those cases where the injured player is less notable than the
- 14:28injury replacement. This is like the more the more
- 14:30important reason to mention this is because like Eckland becomes
- 14:33more interesting as a pickup as opposed to the fact that it's a
- 14:36massive loss. You have to follow like
- 14:38honestly, I don't think they should have been rostered in in
- 14:40most leagues at this point. So but yeah, in Eckland.
- 14:42Interesting. Three games this week before
- 14:44games the week after. If fully stays out for that
- 14:46whole span, then that's a nice pick up.
- 14:48I mean, obviously Celebrity has been slumping, but Eckland shown
- 14:51that you know he's a good enough player.
- 14:53Like he deserves this deployment.
- 14:54Now that he's getting it, you just need him to be good for two
- 14:56weeks. So I don't hate this as a
- 14:58pickup. Is line 2 power play OneNote,
- 15:00which the power play 1 is the big one because that's the
- 15:03obviously the big unit with the big boys.
- 15:05The he I can't I feel like is that the perfect guy that you're
- 15:08you know is good enough to be on your roster?
- 15:09But he's also the easiest cut if you need to like, you know, open
- 15:12a spot for a streamer or something to optimize games.
- 15:15Like I wouldn't feel bad about cutting him, but depending on
- 15:17who you know your options are, he's still a good guy to have,
- 15:20especially with power play 1. I feel that's when he's value
- 15:23really ticks. Obviously explain what celebrity
- 15:25on 585 would be even better, but I don't think that's going to
- 15:28happen with how they've been running the lines, even though
- 15:30they jumble the lines like every game to get stuff going.
- 15:33Like, Will Smith plays like 10 minutes tonight on the fourth
- 15:35line sometimes, and you're like, how easy is this really the
- 15:38strategy for success when you want to get guys going?
- 15:40I don't know. But I don't think the Trucks
- 15:41making the playoffs, like, it looked like they were.
- 15:43We were ready to pencil them in. And then at some point it just
- 15:45became, no, not impossible, but they're just not good enough.
- 15:48It feels like, yeah, maybe they need a Dougie Hamilton or
- 15:51something. Honestly, maybe in the off
- 15:53season we'll see what happens. Jared McCann of the Seattle
- 15:56crack in his day-to-day, replaced by Bonnie B McMahon.
- 15:59McCann for McMahon. It's crazy.
- 16:01Yeah. To like almost identical
- 16:03nothings like that's wild. We talked about McMahon a bit
- 16:06like a week and a half ago. Obviously Seattle not having
- 16:09that great schedule is the one downside.
- 16:11But I love him as a double double with points upside.
- 16:13He did have he like he started off super hot, then he came down
- 16:16to earth. But like I still like him as a
- 16:18as a pickup. If you don't mind if you could
- 16:20fit him in your schedule? He was a scheduled casualty for
- 16:23me last week. I had to decide would either
- 16:26cutting Brat for getting 2 skater games or like holding
- 16:32McMahon and then cutting McMahon for the Sunday and only getting
- 16:35one skidder game out of my my you know stream.
- 16:38And I ended up going to the lottery because I thought my my
- 16:41win condition was so much better with Brat in the semifinals and
- 16:43not with Brats. McMahon, I feel like he's going
- 16:47to average out. He's not gonna do what he did
- 16:48the first two games that he was on Seattle, right?
- 16:50Like, that was crazy. But it's good to know that's in
- 16:52his range of outcomes that he can be a solid category coverage
- 16:54guy. But I think you'll get somewhere
- 16:56in between of what he did the last weekend in the first two
- 16:58games. If you can fit him in your
- 16:59schedule, I think it's very, very good.
- 17:02But make McCann, what are you thinking?
- 17:04Cause like he the first reports was like he was a healthy
- 17:07scratch. Yeah, no, he's been a drop for a
- 17:10while, honestly. Like, I hope that no one held on
- 17:12to him this long. And if you did now, this is the
- 17:14sign you needed to get him off your roster.
- 17:16He had a hot streak at that point this season.
- 17:18But he was arguably the best player for a long time, right?
- 17:20Like you were saying that. Yeah, but just clearly very
- 17:24inconsistent and he's been garbage for awhile.
- 17:26So. So yeah, easy drop.
- 17:28Alright, some more Florida casualties, obviously, because
- 17:32they're just so clearly tanking. Anton Lundell day-to-day Erod
- 17:36Evan Rodriguez getting his spot on power play one.
- 17:38Honestly, like, I know Florida has the 44 schedule, but I'm
- 17:42becoming less and less interested in owning anyone on
- 17:45this team. I just think that anyone who
- 17:47shows any glimpse of, you know, performing well, they're going
- 17:51to take them out. Like that's like he feels
- 17:53blatant tanking every day I'm seeing a new name is day-to-day
- 17:56for Florida, you know, like it's it's crazy.
- 17:59So I'm not rushing to pick up Evan Rodriguez.
- 18:01The only I like his his shots on goal and I like his face off
- 18:04wins from from triple eligibility.
- 18:06But that's always been the case. That doesn't change that much
- 18:09with the with this new deployment.
- 18:10For Florida specifically, I'm getting first of all, any hope
- 18:14for us Sam Reinhart owners or is he just done for the playoffs?
- 18:17Most likely cause they said let's.
- 18:18Run for the playoffs. Said let's evaluate.
- 18:20And then they were like, we're doing some tests.
- 18:22Like that's what I saw the testing.
- 18:24I think it's just BS. Yeah.
- 18:25Honestly, I think he could play. I just think they're they're
- 18:28shutting everyone down. Because.
- 18:29They don't need to play. And honestly, like, maybe I'm
- 18:32just jaded, but I just think it's kind of like, I don't know,
- 18:35maybe it's like me being like trying to be whatever, but I
- 18:38think it's kind of like, I don't get it.
- 18:40I got a bad feeling in my mouth when a team so blatantly tanks,
- 18:42you know, it reminds me of like Chicago tanking for Bedard, you
- 18:45know, like that year they literally like traded away or
- 18:48like every asset they could possibly have, they played just
- 18:51only 4th liners. Like it was just so blatant.
- 18:54And that's what Florida is doing right now.
- 18:55Like they, they essentially shut down their top like 6 forwards
- 18:59for the season. And there's no way these guys
- 19:01are all unable to play. There's just, it's just not a
- 19:03thing. So I kind of like hate that, you
- 19:05know, especially. The back champs and just gonna,
- 19:08you know, get a top ten pick and then bounce back next year.
- 19:10Yeah, exactly. Like look, strategically it's
- 19:12great. You know, it's like the same in
- 19:14fantasy hockey, right, If that's the way your league works.
- 19:16Or like the lower you finish, the higher pick you get the next
- 19:18year. Like, yeah, why wouldn't you
- 19:19want to finish lower? But like, it's not the spirit of
- 19:22the game, right? Like you'd think, like, you
- 19:24know, players have more like integrity and wanna play and
- 19:26whatever. And for the most part, I think
- 19:28that's the case. I think the culture in Florida
- 19:29is we don't mind being the bad guys if it means we're gonna
- 19:32win. So they don't mind doing stuff
- 19:33that's like more morally ambiguous or whatever.
- 19:35Look, it's good strategy, but I don't like it in hockey and and
- 19:38it sucks for fantasy. I'm getting a lot of questions
- 19:41about Sam Bennett too. And they were like, can I draw
- 19:44Bennett or I'm debating between this guy and this guy is like
- 19:48Bennett or Ricard Raquel. Like, who do I keep on my on my
- 19:51on my team this week? Like I have to bench one of them
- 19:53the whole week. Might as well cut them and get
- 19:55an off night guy. Yeah.
- 19:56And it's tough because, I mean, I answered one.
- 19:58It was like Bennett or Matthew Noyes and Matthews had one off
- 20:02night. Bennett has no off nights.
- 20:03I was like. OK, but he has one off night
- 20:07like after, but I thought I'd cut knives because I thought I
- 20:12think Bennett is better when you plays.
- 20:14But it's just like like you said, I just feel like any
- 20:16moment can be like, alright, he's too hurt today, he can't
- 20:18play and you gonna feel awful if you cut the other guy.
- 20:20He plays you, you want to keep betting, then he gets scratched
- 20:23or whatever and you're like in a pickle, right?
- 20:25So it's tough. Do you just want to get rid of
- 20:27that headache now and just not taking the chance or you're
- 20:29willing to like hold because the value of him when he plays is
- 20:32enough to make up for the fact that like, you know, there's the
- 20:35risk. There.
- 20:36I mean, it's tough because nice has been so garbage, right?
- 20:39Yeah. So like like in comparison
- 20:41there, like I'd rather the upside of Bennett playing
- 20:45because nice is just straight zeros, right.
- 20:47So like may as well, you know, have the upside of not straight
- 20:51zeros. But if it was another player I
- 20:52was more excited about, then I'd be fine cutting Bennett.
- 20:54Like I'm really. I'm betting or Rachel.
- 20:58I would take Raquel no even though he just put up a game of
- 21:00straight Heroes I. Know still and on the Sunday of
- 21:02my financing matchup. I know.
- 21:04Yeah. But anyways, let's go to the
- 21:07last one. Morgan Riley of Toronto Maple
- 21:09Leafs Day-to-day Ekman Larsson's taking us on power play 1.
- 21:12Toronto is another one of these teams where if anyone's injured,
- 21:15they're not going to play them. They just have no reason to.
- 21:17But I think Riley's going to come back.
- 21:19I don't think it's like, it's not the same like Florida.
- 21:21They're really, they're actively trying to shut people down,
- 21:24Toronto. He just happens to be injured
- 21:25and they're not gonna rush him back for no reason.
- 21:28What do you think? About the I'm not interested in
- 21:30OL what? What do you think about Toronto
- 21:32in terms of like, they're the guys that are on that team rest
- 21:35of season? Cause I know like, you know,
- 21:37Matthews is out, Taveras has been kind of solid, you know,
- 21:40under has been OK, but like, nice has been bad.
- 21:42And it feels like anybody else on this team has been like too
- 21:44inconsistent or just not not valuable at all.
- 21:46Yeah, I know in our league, like both goalies are on waivers too.
- 21:50Yeah. I I mean, it's you know, it's
- 21:54hard to say because it's been years since this has happened,
- 21:56but Toronto one of the worst teams in the league.
- 21:59There's no reason to own either goalie and there's no reason to
- 22:02own anyone not named to virus or Nylander.
- 22:03Honestly, like nice is like the the fringe case, but because of
- 22:07how bad he's been and it's playoffs, like you gotta just do
- 22:09what you gotta do. And I would not want to have him
- 22:11for the next two weeks. If OEL is on a power play one,
- 22:14are you interested at all? No, not even.
- 22:18I mean, look, it can context dependent, right?
- 22:21Like if you know if you can fit him perfectly in your schedule
- 22:24and you need a defenseman and you need the chance, that's
- 22:27power play points and there's no one better on waivers like.
- 22:31Recov. I'll take Gavrilov.
- 22:34Even though he's not on power. Play 1 Cup, I think that's a
- 22:38good line because never comes the perfect guy.
- 22:40That's like he doesn't have the special teams deployment, he
- 22:42doesn't have the banger category coverage, but he gets you points
- 22:45here and there. He's just he's on a hot streak.
- 22:48He's got a way better schedule. That's what it comes down to
- 22:51alright, and then some 22 big returns from injury in the past
- 22:54week. We have a Sidney Crosby of the
- 22:57Pittsburgh Penguins coming back line on power play 1 bumping off
- 23:00Anthony Mantha from the power play.
- 23:02Massive, massive return for anyone who has Crosby.
- 23:05Pretty crazy. I feel like I expected him to be
- 23:07out longer than this, but but I mean, that's he, this guy hates
- 23:11to not play hockey. Like all he wants to do is play
- 23:13hockey. And you know, that's a player
- 23:15right there, you know, not these CVS Florida guys who are just
- 23:17pretending to be injured for the season.
- 23:19Shots fired. Yeah, anyways, like like super
- 23:22exciting for him. I think it makes everyone around
- 23:24him other than Mantha better because Mantha lost the
- 23:27deployment. Eric Carlson, obviously the best
- 23:28player in the NHL. So like, you know, now that
- 23:30probably is back. It just it just makes them even
- 23:33better. And now it's really huge having
- 23:35him back. It's funny because the team that
- 23:37just missed playoffs in our league because they made a bad
- 23:41pick up, like they had Crosby and if they made the playoffs,
- 23:44they would have gotten him back. And you know, could have been a
- 23:46whole other story. But yeah, Jake wouldn't have
- 23:49been in like knocked out the first seed.
- 23:50Like, yeah, crazy. Somebody what ifs right?
- 23:54And then Jake might end up and go win the league this year, who
- 23:56knows. And he he was two points away
- 23:58from making the playoffs because the team right behind him in 9th
- 24:00place made a dumb pick up and lost.
- 24:02Out. Yeah, crazy how things happen,
- 24:05but Mantha, it becomes an immediate drop.
- 24:07I know a lot of people streamed him going into the playoffs
- 24:09because of the deployment and the schedule and everything.
- 24:12As soon as he got bumped off the power play one like he doesn't
- 24:14even have good 5 deployment like cut him.
- 24:16But does not mean that he won't be able to have like good games
- 24:18here and there. Like he said, I can take shots
- 24:20and score goals, but just I'm not banking on it with a
- 24:23deployment that probably 1 is now full, full force.
- 24:26And listen, Pittsburgh is still in the playoff race too.
- 24:28I think maybe that's why no Crosby came back as fast as he
- 24:31did too, because I think Pittsburgh needs to help.
- 24:33The goal is just starting to fall off as well.
- 24:36Like, you know, she loves having some bad games.
- 24:37I think Stuart Skinner has a one in a while.
- 24:40So it's it's gonna be a tight battle in the East.
- 24:42I think to for who gets those last playoff spots right now, if
- 24:46you have to guess, who are you putting your money?
- 24:47On I mean, I still think Pittsburgh safe just because
- 24:49like, I mean, honestly, I think Columbus could pass them, but I
- 24:52think they're still going to be in the top three in their
- 24:54division. I don't think Islanders are
- 24:56jumping back into that top three.
- 24:57And then I think top three in Atlantic.
- 24:59I mean, obviously Buffaloes locks, Tampas locked.
- 25:02I mean, I don't think I'm being too biased when I say I think
- 25:05the haves will end at 3rd. I don't think we're by any means
- 25:07a lot. I just think we will end up in
- 25:093rd and division and then top two wild cards.
- 25:11I'm going to Boston and Ottawa. I think even though Larkins
- 25:15coming back, I don't think Detroit has the juice.
- 25:16I think they've been kind of like petering out.
- 25:19But I mean, we did mention him being talismanic.
- 25:20So we'll see. We'll see if he can turn the
- 25:22ship around. I just feel like Ottawa's on
- 25:24fire and and they're just like, I think they're going to make
- 25:27it. And I don't think I don't
- 25:28believe in the Islanders think the Islanders are pretty much
- 25:30entirely Elias Sorokin. You know, could definitely bring
- 25:34yeah, ugly could definitely bring you to the playoffs, but I
- 25:37just think Ottawa is just a much better team and they're gonna
- 25:39catch up and Loki funny, I was just looking at the standings.
- 25:42I mean this is 100% not gonna happen but like do you realize
- 25:45Phillies only like 1 point behind Ottawa I?
- 25:46Know but if they don't crazy playoffs they don't know they
- 25:49have team. I don't know.
- 25:51But like, they're not going to because there's too many teams
- 25:53in front of them and they're not a good team.
- 25:54But it's kind of crazy. Like, you know, yeah, it's it's
- 25:58nuts. So that's what happens when the
- 26:00coach lets Mishkoff play on his actual wing instead of forcing
- 26:03him to be. It makes no.
- 26:04Sense. But anyway, people.
- 26:07Yeah, exactly. Exactly.
- 26:08Now he's Jack. We've got another.
- 26:10Gonna say though, before we spoke on the Islanders just a
- 26:13little bit, but last year I did what Josh did this year and I
- 26:18drafted goalies in like the middle rounds.
- 26:20And I thought I had got like extreme great value on Ilya
- 26:23Sorokin and I had laid ground value on Darcy Kemper.
- 26:27And honestly, like for the most for the large part of the
- 26:30season, like Sorokin was like my worst pick in the draft.
- 26:32And it was like, I can't believe I spent, you know, my seventh
- 26:35round pick on a goalie and he's so awful, costing me every week.
- 26:39Even though Darcy Kemper was really good last year, Sorokin
- 26:42was so bad that it did like it just wasn't a good match.
- 26:45The end of the season not turned up.
- 26:47But in this season, Sir, OK was probably the best pick for
- 26:50goalies, Yeah, and it's just not because he went later than.
- 26:53He was the worst. Yeah, isn't that crazy?
- 26:56I would happen. This is why we say goalies are
- 26:57so volatile. You can't always predict.
- 26:59Like Connor Hellebuyck was a first round pick in literally
- 27:01every draft this season. He was arguing with the worst
- 27:03pick in fantasy this season because of how you had to draft
- 27:05him and how bad he was for your fantasy team.
- 27:07So This is why we we preach, you know 0 goalie drafted late.
- 27:11Don't draft them at all. Make do with the waivers and and
- 27:13you'll probably be fine either way because you.
- 27:15Know it's like. These picks wrong.
- 27:17It's just so impactful. You know, it's gonna be
- 27:19interesting is like we're gonna do anger management league,
- 27:22right? And it's gonna be like 8 people
- 27:24who, you know, either like our hosts or listen to vendor
- 27:28management and you know, I'm not saying everyone follows exactly
- 27:31what we say, right, but there's a decent chance that all eight
- 27:33people are 0 two people, right? Yeah, like that's gonna
- 27:36interesting draft like when do you bite, you know on some of
- 27:38these like like how far these goalies gonna.
- 27:39Draw them because at some point they do become a value, right?
- 27:43It's going to be really interesting because let's say
- 27:45like, you know, round one, no one picks a goalie.
- 27:48Round two, no one picks a goalie all of a sudden in round 3 and
- 27:50you've guys, guys like NASA Levski available like whatever,
- 27:52you know, like when do you? We see it in football all the
- 27:56time. Like I do a lot of redraft
- 27:57leagues and for football, like goalies are quote UN quote like
- 28:01the quarterbacks, like it's a onesie position.
- 28:03Like they hold a lot of value, but there's a lot of good ones
- 28:06and you only need to start 1. So that like it makes them less
- 28:08valuable by nature. So in, you know, quote, UN quote
- 28:12more casual leagues, you'll see goalies get picked up like the
- 28:14end of the first or in the second.
- 28:16And then you play in more competitive leagues and it's
- 28:17just like, you know, the quarterback always gets drafted
- 28:19in the second round, is available in the fourth round.
- 28:22And you're like, OK, is this one I have to bite?
- 28:25And then you gonna start a run or something.
- 28:27So like, the values get shifted. You gotta make do you gotta, you
- 28:29know, risk reward. It's fun.
- 28:31Yeah. So it's gonna be, it's gonna be
- 28:33really interesting to see cause there's definitely, I mean,
- 28:35that's kind of like what led me this year to not going full 0G
- 28:38is because I knew you and Jake were both doing it.
- 28:40I knew that like a few people were gonna do it.
- 28:42And I was like, OK, maybe there's going to be some weight
- 28:44value on goalies like or mid round value on goalies, you
- 28:47know, to like kind of like reverse against the meta or
- 28:49whatever. But I clearly overthink it.
- 28:52And yeah. And yeah, so we'll see what
- 28:54average next year, but I'm not drafting a single goalie, even
- 28:57if Maslowski is available in Round 15.
- 28:58I'm just, no, I'm kidding, obviously.
- 29:01Obviously I would, but but I'm I'm going pretty hard next year,
- 29:04so we'll see. We got last return from injury,
- 29:06another captain, Gabe Landeskog with Colorado Avalanche.
- 29:09Last I checked he was line to power play too, but that can
- 29:11change in a heartbeat. It was line one power play 2
- 29:14last I saw. OK, line 1.
- 29:18The, you know, Landy McKinnon and natures and natures.
- 29:22First of all, McKinnon, I feel like it's been a disappointment
- 29:24these fantasy playoffs thus far, like a lot of people had making
- 29:27throughout the whole season, obviously carried you guys who
- 29:29maybe top of the standings and then you kind of not know showed
- 29:31completely. But it's been pretty, pretty bad
- 29:34in the playoffs. But nature has been like a
- 29:36monster. I know Josh played against
- 29:37nature last week and I went down.
- 29:38I'm playing against the got eliminated Josh and I'm looking
- 29:41at like natures. This guys been averaging almost
- 29:432 points per game for the last month.
- 29:44How is this even happening? Yeah, and you also have the joy
- 29:47of playing Brock Nelson, the best enter on the Colorado
- 29:49Avalanche. So enjoy.
- 29:51Yeah, no, it's yeah. So anyways, landscape coming
- 29:53back, I think definitely caught you getting bumped off line once
- 29:55a massive hit to his his value. He still power play one for now,
- 29:58but again I wouldn't be surprised if next game
- 30:01landscapes properly. 1 So yeah, I really seems at this point,
- 30:03obviously McKinnon and Makar are the goats, but it feels like
- 30:06right now the two most valuable guys done on Colorado are Nature
- 30:09Centre and Nelson. I was going to say because
- 30:12Landis car was a hot topic in our in our discord.
- 30:14People are being like he's he's back.
- 30:15He played one game like is he must pick up like my dropping
- 30:18you know this guy for us called discover on this car guy.
- 30:21I in my mind, I feel like he's almost a must pick up before he
- 30:24gets the power play 1 cause he does get that play.
- 30:26I feel his roster is gonna shoot up the roof.
- 30:29Is that a thing? Shoot up the roof or you know
- 30:31what I mean. Though I know you're going with
- 30:33and I know there's something like that.
- 30:35I don't think that's it, but we'll just go through the roof.
- 30:37Sounds like violent. I don't know.
- 30:39I know. I think he's like a must pick up
- 30:41and I feel just at least one worst guy on your team you're
- 30:44probably able to drop like Landis cock for Sam Bennett.
- 30:46Would you do that? Yeah, he's yeah.
- 30:49Yeah, even without the guaranteed technique, that
- 30:51doesn't get. Yeah, I just like Landeskog to
- 30:53category coverage. I think that baseline, you know,
- 30:56he's gonna get you some shots, face off wins, hits, blocks,
- 30:58Pimms maybe like, you know, and then line 1 deployment like we
- 31:02always mentioned throughout the year, the Colorado power play is
- 31:04garbage anyway. So like it's nice to be on it
- 31:07for extra ice time and like obviously it will lead to some
- 31:09PowerPoints here and there, but not having it's not the end of
- 31:11the world. It's the even strength which is
- 31:13more important. I answered this, would you
- 31:15rather in the discord like right before we started recording land
- 31:18Discog or Raquel for like the next two weeks?
- 31:20I think I'm still going Raquel. I think Pittsburgh has one of
- 31:23the best power plays in the league.
- 31:24They just got Crosby back. Raquel is a cat stuffer as well.
- 31:27And you know, the three five versus 3/4.
- 31:30So it's one extra game as well. Um, yeah, so I'm going Raquel.
- 31:33I like Landeskog but I don't think you have to drop like a
- 31:36guy like for California. That was the same answer that I
- 31:39had. I said probably gets, you know,
- 31:41maybe more shots and hits and better overall category
- 31:44coverage. But I feel like, you know, I'm a
- 31:47I'm a power play SLU T So yeah. And Pittsburgh is the top five
- 31:51power play and you know, they've been clicking hard.
- 31:54So I'm feeling you're missing out too many points if you go
- 31:56the opposite way So. Absolutely.
- 31:59All right, let's get to the famous Would You rathers for
- 32:02this week. Did you peek?
- 32:04I've never peeked in my life and I never will.
- 32:07Just as I like it. Do you think we have a serial
- 32:09peaker on our hands and he's not on the podcast today.
- 32:12I think last last news episode where did would you rather was
- 32:15like one of the best ones because I actually hit the would
- 32:18you rather from our show doc and Jake was actually pleasantly
- 32:21surprised at some of the questions caught him off guard A
- 32:23little bit less time to prepare. But the ones this week we're a
- 32:26little tough because I want to go guys are like waiver
- 32:29important. We're in the playoffs.
- 32:31It's either your semifinals or, you know, maybe your finals in
- 32:35some leagues or your quarter finals in some leagues, I don't
- 32:37know. But mostly waiver guys will see,
- 32:39you know, where we can draw the line.
- 32:41But it's always hard to find guys that are like back-to-back
- 32:44in value. So let's just have the
- 32:45conversation. But let's start with the right
- 32:49wing position if you're new here, I do one of every
- 32:51position, right wing, left wing, centre, defenseman, goalie, and
- 32:54try to split the difference between two guys and have our
- 32:57opinions split today. Josh and I, usually Jake is the
- 33:00easy one to split because he always has some eccentric takes.
- 33:03Sometimes Josh and I are on the same wavelength usually, but it
- 33:06will all do my best. Alright, yeah, so right wing a
- 33:08guy that I picked up, Connor Brown, who was I feel like a hot
- 33:13pick up this coming week with the four games.
- 33:15Yeah, he was on our way for. Show Yep.
- 33:17Or Gabe Perot of the New York Rangers, who as you're listening
- 33:21to this, has already played one game, but.
- 33:24Yeah, well, I haven't seen what he's done, but I'm expecting
- 33:26zeros. I've I I would go with with
- 33:30Brown over Perot. If Perot was power play one, I
- 33:32would take him. So I mean, big caveat, if you
- 33:36could only fit in Brown for like 2 games and you could fit in Pro
- 33:404, I'm taking Perot. But assuming you could fit them
- 33:43both in for four games, I'd rather Brown.
- 33:45I mean, he's been doing better. He's got better deployment or is
- 33:49the better player, but you know, at the end of the day it's the
- 33:52deployment and who's been hot and that's brown.
- 33:54So for me it's a it's an easy one.
- 33:55There I'm, I'm also going Brown, but to Josh's point, like if you
- 33:59can fit more games of Peru, it might be more valuable there.
- 34:02But I do think Connor Brown is just a better player.
- 34:04I think the power play 1 and the, you know, the exposure to
- 34:07playing with Jack Hughes and yes, for Brad is very valuable.
- 34:11I picked them up in, in, in our league of record for $2.00.
- 34:14The only other person that bid was JFK and Jackie bid $1.00.
- 34:17But Jackie only has $2.00 left to his name, have $4.00 left to
- 34:20my name. Everybody else has like 30 or
- 34:22$40.00 left. But I'm out here with like
- 34:23nobody so happy I outbid him. But I'm hoping I get some good
- 34:28production of Carter Brown this week.
- 34:29I'm just on an hour waivers. They were so scared.
- 34:31He was one of the only guys that had like good power play
- 34:33exposure and, you know, good 5 E 5.
- 34:35So it felt like a no brainer. So we'll see if that pays
- 34:37dividends. But yeah, Perot is was a hot
- 34:39name to in the discord. Everybody wants to know, like,
- 34:41you know, who do I drop to pick up parole for, you know, the
- 34:44four games this week on the off nights.
- 34:46No I mean really like the only reason that Perot has so much
- 34:49hype around him is 1 because when Miller was out he was
- 34:53really good and two it's because of the Rangers schedule.
- 34:55But honestly, if the Rangers didn't have the schedule, I
- 34:57would never pick up a guy like that.
- 34:59I mean, I've always said recently that like, I'm not
- 35:02super high on him just because he's too 1 dimensional for me.
- 35:04It's just like, you know, you'll get one assistance, zero, then
- 35:06you'll like it. Like, yeah, that's kind of how
- 35:09it's felt. But there is value to that in
- 35:11some leagues too, especially points leagues.
- 35:12But in categories, leagues, I just rather pick up the guy
- 35:14that's gonna get me like, you know, maybe two hits who blocks
- 35:17a hit or shot or whatever, and maybe no points.
- 35:21But I think that's more valuable.
- 35:23Yeah, for sure. It's it's all scheduled
- 35:24dependent. That, I think is why he's his
- 35:26name pops up so much. Alright, going to the centre
- 35:29position, Josh's new nemesis, Shane Pinto, one of Josh's
- 35:35nemesis, Nemesi. Yeah, I'm playing, I'm playing
- 35:39against him this week. And listen, we're recording this
- 35:42right before this goes live on Tuesday morning.
- 35:44So we're recording this Monday night and Windows already got a
- 35:46power play goal against me, so pretty, pretty happy about that.
- 35:49Obviously. Meanwhile, Brittany could Chuck
- 35:51Dylan Cousins, Drake Baptisms got no points, but at least
- 35:55Pintos got that part of the goal.
- 35:56Yeah. So would you rather Pinto or the
- 36:00GOAT of the Boston Bruins? My guy Pavel Zacha, who I said
- 36:05Sacha was better. Now I'm going Zacher for sure.
- 36:08I think Pinto sucks. I think he had a lucky weekend.
- 36:11I can feel the hatred, the passionate hatred in your, in
- 36:13your voice. Yeah, because I'm tired of
- 36:15getting wrecked by guys who shouldn't be rostered.
- 36:17I got wrecked by bleeping Noakes last week.
- 36:20Go look at his game log and it's average for the last month and
- 36:22give me give me a non hatred take.
- 36:25OK. Cause even tonight, like he's
- 36:28got a power play goal, he's got two shots, 4 face off wins, one
- 36:31hit, and they're halfway through the second period.
- 36:33So he's been a category guy and he's delivering on the points,
- 36:38the shorties. Yeah, I mean like look, I like
- 36:41the cats actually I really like the guy said Yeah cause his
- 36:45shots hits have been. Very have been excellent.
- 36:48I just don't like his deployment.
- 36:49I think that but. He's been doing this with the
- 36:52same deployment for a while now, that's the thing.
- 36:54For sure, but I mean, Zach has also been hot and he has power
- 36:57play 1. So for me, that's like enough of
- 36:59a enough of a big difference there.
- 37:01And I will say Ottawa, like look at his minutes, look at Pinto's
- 37:04minutes. They're still pretty good.
- 37:06Like even Brady, I have Brady and I have Cousins and they play
- 37:09like 16 minutes a night, 17 minutes a night.
- 37:12Like if the Line 1 and the other team is probably playing 20 plus
- 37:15minutes on Ottawa, they get 1617 minutes and you're happy about
- 37:18it. Yeah, they rolled the lines at
- 37:20least the top, the top 9 pretty well.
- 37:23Yeah, No, it's for me. At the end of the day, it comes
- 37:25down to deployment. Zach's power play won, Pintos
- 37:28not. Both have been hot.
- 37:29Pinto has better category coverage, but I mean in terms of
- 37:32points in power play points, I think Zaca has a has the edge
- 37:35for sure. If you're into categories league
- 37:37with shorties does that sway you in any way?
- 37:40Being like 1 Shorty from pit to get sway one category and be
- 37:43really. Impactful random look going into
- 37:45the week. Last week I thought I was in a
- 37:46great spot for shorties. I had Sean Monahan with two
- 37:49shorthanded points. In the past like a week I had
- 37:51Paget who had like 3 shorties. In the past week I had Owen
- 37:54Tippett was putting up shorties. I had like every Shorty guy you
- 37:57could have ended the week 0 short handed points.
- 37:59He Anthony Cirelli got his first short end point of like the
- 38:01year. I don't know, like, you know,
- 38:02like it's anything could happen with shorties.
- 38:04I never put any stock in that. Like you can stack, you can
- 38:07stack the deck in your favor and you'll still lose it.
- 38:09I feel the same. I went against Jordan Stall last
- 38:11week who got his first short hand to point in like 2 years
- 38:14against me and my championship quarterfinals or whatever
- 38:17playoff quarterfinals. So yeah, I think Zachary is a
- 38:20safer option. Like Pinto just kind of feels
- 38:22like the she's gonna drop at some point and you know, the
- 38:24points will dry up a little bit. Maybe the categories will still
- 38:26be there, which is always nice, but Zach has got pretty
- 38:28categories as well. Yeah, he's got face offs from
- 38:31the left wing position, so if that's an extra bonus in your
- 38:34face off league, that's great. The Ottawa schedule is pretty
- 38:36nice though, but Boss has got a great schedule too so.
- 38:39Yeah, it's the same pretty much. All right, this one will
- 38:43probably be lopsided, but let's say Bangers League obviously
- 38:47like our league of record. Picture that categories.
- 38:50Would you rather rest of season Public Enemy #1 Mendoza, Jack
- 38:56McBain, the guy who almost ended my fantasy season and who Josh
- 38:59regrets dropping, or Jagor Chikov of the Pittsburgh
- 39:02Penguins? I mean rest this season, I feel
- 39:05like you gotta go China go just because of the schedule, right?
- 39:07Both of them have three games this week, but next week it's
- 39:10five games to two games. That's an insane difference.
- 39:13So if it was the same amount of games, I'd go Mendoza, but but
- 39:18A5 game against two game week is just two massive of a
- 39:21difference. Like honestly I'm trying to
- 39:23think. Of semifinals 2 though.
- 39:26This week I'd rather have a. So where do you draw the line?
- 39:29Like how much of this week is more valuable than, you know
- 39:32next week? Because you could have between
- 39:34now and then cut them and then pick up somebody else.
- 39:37You won't get China, but maybe you get somebody else.
- 39:40Yeah, I mean, look, I don't think missing out on Shinnecock
- 39:42is like the end of the world, you know?
- 39:45So like if you're just focused on this week and you're like,
- 39:48I'll, you know, I'll pick up McCain for this week and then
- 39:50I'll drop him for someone with a better schedule next week, then
- 39:53I would take him over over China Golf.
- 39:55But if like everything, I wanna. Make like Pimms like can get you
- 39:5915 hits in two games like you know.
- 40:01Yeah, I mean, I'm just like for next week it took to me is a no
- 40:06brainer. You gotta go with the five game
- 40:07guy over the two game guy. But for this week, I love what
- 40:10McCain's been doing. So I would definitely prefer
- 40:12him. So so yeah.
- 40:13So pretty much if you're just focused on this week, I would go
- 40:15McBain. If you're focused on rest of
- 40:16season I would go China Gov. OK, yeah, I mean, I'm in the
- 40:19same boat. Like at some point volume is
- 40:21king. And maybe let's say you do miss
- 40:22out on the, let's say go make Bane and you know, you don't get
- 40:25China cover the finals. Like I feel you can find a
- 40:26serviceable replacement. But if you had to pick between
- 40:29the two, I think I'm taking like the five games over 2 games.
- 40:31It just feels like a no brainer the lead for the category
- 40:35coverage, like the shots that hits even the blocks that Pimms
- 40:38like there's been nobody that's more reliable for Pimms in
- 40:42recent weeks than Jack McBain like he's he got 10 Pimms alone
- 40:45against me in my in just in one match up right.
- 40:48So it's like crazy. But alas, Chikov still solid
- 40:51even though he doesn't have to let's say top tier deployment
- 40:54that he could have. Alright, talking about
- 40:55defenseman now this was hard to find like relevant defensemen
- 40:58that are like more on waivers, but would you rather Guava Rakov
- 41:03or Thomas Shabbat? That's tough, because Sanderson
- 41:05should exactly in the next. We're projecting in 23 for
- 41:10Sanderson. It looks like either like the
- 41:11first game or the second game of week 23 seems like the projected
- 41:14return date. Yeah, I mean, honestly, like I
- 41:19wouldn't fault, I mean, this is coming out Tuesday, right?
- 41:22So like tomorrow morning, you know, we already missed out on
- 41:25one game of of Gavrilov for this week.
- 41:27But I think with how elite the Rangers schedule is this week
- 41:30and how good Gavrilov has been, despite me believing that it's
- 41:35sustainable in the slightest, I think I would go Gavrilov,
- 41:37especially with the Sanderson return.
- 41:39Like like coming back. If Sanderson wasn't coming back,
- 41:42it would be Shabbat, no brainer. But if he, like the second
- 41:44Sanderson, comes back to me, Shabbat shouldn't be rostered.
- 41:47He still has some decent category Uruma he has like yeah,
- 41:50not a bad like shots, blocks combo.
- 41:52Yeah, it could still be better. Than kabob though.
- 41:56That's true, but I mean, Gavrilov just for some reason is
- 41:58putting up points like don't tell, don't ask me why.
- 42:00I don't, I don't get it. But it's there.
- 42:02So. And something with the off
- 42:04night. Yeah.
- 42:04And this week specifically with the off nights, I think it's
- 42:06just like the guy you can fit into your lineup.
- 42:09Fair. Honestly I think for me I'd go,
- 42:12I think I'm going to Shabbat and then if it's like when Santa
- 42:15comes back I have to cut Shabbat.
- 42:16Like I feel like I'll I'll be OK with whoever I can pick up to
- 42:20replace him even though it's not Darkov type of situation.
- 42:23Yeah, I definitely don't think you're like missing out.
- 42:25I don't think Avakov like this, like must pick up or whatever.
- 42:27And I think Shabbat was Anderson out is better.
- 42:29I just think that like, there's a lot of people who just won't
- 42:31be able to fit him in their lineup this week, and then next
- 42:33week Sanderson might be back already.
- 42:35Alright, let's talk about goalies.
- 42:37This one was also difficult. It feels like we're getting a
- 42:39lot of it's seasoned goalie heroics.
- 42:42Yeah. But would you rather Joel Hofer,
- 42:46the percentage beast, or Dan Vladar, who's got quantity and
- 42:50quality? That's a really close one
- 42:52actually. I mean, I really like both of
- 42:55them. I've been a Feldar believer for
- 42:56awhile. Hope for won me over as well.
- 42:58I think they're both quality goalies and I think they're both
- 43:01quantity. I trustful Dars quantity more
- 43:03obviously because Hofer in Bennington have been splitting
- 43:05it a bit. Honestly, like I have to go
- 43:07check like the matchups and schedule based on the map.
- 43:09Yeah, based on the matchups at that point.
- 43:11Because now also, I think something that throws a wrench
- 43:14in it is, you know, in Week 21, the Blues had two games.
- 43:18And I think everybody almost thought like with 90% chance of
- 43:21ever getting both of those games, played the first game,
- 43:23Bennington ended up getting the second game.
- 43:25So now it kind of throws a wrench into like, how to predict
- 43:28this rotation. You don't necessarily know if
- 43:31Bennington's going to go back to being like a backup or they
- 43:33gonna rotate every game. Like, we don't really know.
- 43:36We have the ambiguous situation. They do have a good schedule,
- 43:39though. And Philly, I feel like right
- 43:41now the Blues are better team Philly.
- 43:43Yeah, although Philly in their last 10 is.
- 43:46I know what I'm saying, like Chili's also like good, like we
- 43:48pictured them when we visualize Philly, we're not thinking about
- 43:50a good team, but then on paper like they're getting results.
- 43:53So I feel like that's with Vladar with the consistency of
- 43:56like, you know, is the main starter there, right, Like and
- 43:57you know, you can get you might have some stinkers here and
- 44:00there that may cost you, but you can rely on like above 900 save
- 44:03percentage for very often, even if he's only winning, you know,
- 44:06half of his games, but has been really solid percentage wise on
- 44:09a quote UN quote better team, but more ambiguous level of
- 44:13starts. That's where I think, you know,
- 44:15we have to answer the question. Let me look at the matchups.
- 44:18I don't have it all stop in my head.
- 44:19Let's see. OK.
- 44:20So this week, Hofer is going to be playing the Capitals.
- 44:24No, they play Capitals on Tuesdays so that they just comes
- 44:26out, you know, in the afternoon, you'll know.
- 44:28We know who's starting the Capitals, then San Jose, then
- 44:31Toronto. Yeah.
- 44:33So he might get two of those games.
- 44:35I think all of those are easy matchups.
- 44:37They're all at home. So I like that.
- 44:39And he should get two of those three.
- 44:41And then Philly, you've got Columbus, then Chicago and then
- 44:44a back-to-back Detroit, Dallas. So for this week, I'd rather
- 44:46hope for with those matchups. And then let's look at the week
- 44:49after that. So week after that, Saint Louis
- 44:52has got San Jose, LA, Anaheim and then Colorado.
- 44:55And then Philly has Washington, a back-to-back of Detroit and
- 44:59Islanders and then Boston. Honestly, I think I'm going to
- 45:02go home for because also with like the way the way the Saint
- 45:04Louis one is Colorado's the last day of the week.
- 45:06You can just drop him before, like you don't have to play in
- 45:08the Colorado game. You can hold them for the first
- 45:10three games that weekend. That week, though, it's all away
- 45:13games. They're on a road trip the whole
- 45:14week. Does that, yeah.
- 45:16Change your mind in any way. No, I mean half of Phillies
- 45:19games are away and I don't put too much stock in that.
- 45:22I mean, like San Jose's been garbage lately.
- 45:25Ellie's awful, Anaheim's like you know, they're either garbage
- 45:29or amazing, you know, in between.
- 45:31And then like I said, I would probably just, I wouldn't hold
- 45:33him for the first like until Friday and then drop him on
- 45:35Saturday for like a Saturday, Sunday streamer and just not
- 45:38play him against Colorado. Yep, I'm also going.
- 45:41However, I just feel like the the matchups really lend to him,
- 45:44even though you know that like he might only get No2 games this
- 45:49week, two games next week, but those two games should be good
- 45:51quality. Listen, anything can happen to
- 45:52any goalie, right? Quality versus quantity.
- 45:54But radar is not, it's not impossible for him to have a bad
- 45:58game either, right? And he's got a little bit of the
- 46:00harder matchups. I think that's a difference
- 46:01maker for me. Yeah, no, I fully agree.
- 46:04Alright, alright, once yeah, it was hard to this week to find
- 46:07you know like relevant would you rather is that people can
- 46:09actually like pick up but also like that are valuable to your
- 46:12lineups. Well, it's like, I think you did
- 46:14a good job because also like these would you rathers are like
- 46:18questions that a lot of people are probably thinking in their
- 46:21heads like, you know, like, like literally this week looking at
- 46:23their phone, like who am I gonna pick up this week?
- 46:25I'm gonna pick up Perot or am I gonna pick up Connor Brown said
- 46:28Connor Brown. Yeah, exactly.
- 46:29So it's like this is literally like a question that I'm sure
- 46:32went through like a ton of people's heads.
- 46:34So it's very, very applicable. You know, like earlier in the
- 46:36season. They're more kind of like like
- 46:38trade related, you know, So it's like, you know, it's just to
- 46:41give people ideas and about how to rank like different players,
- 46:44which is obviously still super valuable.
- 46:45But here it's like a thing that like is actionable by like
- 46:48almost everyone who's listening. So I think it's it's.
- 46:50Great. And I just want to give some
- 46:52closing advice for you. If you're in your no semifinals
- 46:55right now or quarterfinals, I, I genuinely feel like the advice
- 46:59that I want to give is that if you're in a categories league
- 47:01where you know, you're playing, you know, 415 categories up for
- 47:05grabs or 13 categories up for grabs with how the schedule is
- 47:08lined up this week. Think patience is key because
- 47:11it's really hard to pick up guys to optimize for quantity since
- 47:15everybody's playing on the same nights and there's only like a
- 47:17few teams that have the true off nights, but also limits the
- 47:20quality of the player you're able to pick up because a lot of
- 47:23the best guys already rostered, right.
- 47:24So like is like, you know, a very average guy on a Rangers
- 47:28better than, you know, a quality guy on a another team that's
- 47:31playing. So I think you're going to
- 47:33categories league. I think patience is good because
- 47:36you'll have, as your sample size grows, you'll know what you need
- 47:39to target and you can make your more accurate pickups, you know,
- 47:42to be more influential in your lineups.
- 47:45If you're in a points league, that's when you just kind of
- 47:47want to stack up points as much as possible waiting for patients
- 47:50to get you anything because like Josh has said before, it's point
- 47:53soup, right? Like if I get 2 games or three
- 47:55games, I want three games because more points soup.
- 47:56So different strategies, but I encourage patients during this
- 48:00week with how the schedule is. Yeah, I think that's a great
- 48:03point. And The thing is that, like
- 48:04players on waivers, what makes someone a good player is when
- 48:06they could hit multiple categories.
- 48:08But there's a billion players on waivers who are really good at
- 48:11one category. So you can wait until, you know,
- 48:14Saturday night before making like, you see what you know, oh,
- 48:17I need to flip blocks. Grab a guy who literally only
- 48:19does blocks, right? There's so many of those guys
- 48:21available. You know, you need hits.
- 48:23Pick a guy who all he does is hit, you know, So like it
- 48:25definitely, you know, that's when you're that late in the
- 48:28week, you know, exactly what category needs to be flipped.
- 48:31And there's a lot of that available.
- 48:32So that's definitely a good point on the on the patients.
- 48:35In my quarterfinals, I waited like pretty late to make my 2:00
- 48:38last pickups. I made my, I made one pick up
- 48:41on, I forgot it was Thursday or Friday, but I realized that
- 48:45blocks was gonna be like the crucial category for my matchup.
- 48:47And I ended up waiting and picking up Dylan Samberg, who
- 48:50had two games instead of picking up a guy with three games not
- 48:52knowing if I was going to blocks or something else.
- 48:54And even though Sandberg had like 2 blocks in one game and
- 48:56zero blocks in the next game, like I was hoping for maybe four
- 48:59blocks out of two games, I still think it was the right move.
- 49:01And then I, I usually used one for one game on Sunday and I
- 49:04picked up Connor Dewar of Pittsburgh and he got me like I
- 49:07think five hits and one block and I won my match up by three
- 49:11hits and felt like it was, you know, 5 relief a little bit
- 49:13there. So patients help sometimes.
- 49:16Patience is key. But that's gonna wrap this
- 49:19episode up. If you're if you made it this
- 49:22far, we really appreciate it. Hopefully you guys are all in
- 49:24the semifinals or the quarterfinals of your fantasy
- 49:26leagues. I know you know, it's been a
- 49:28long season, but now it's crunch time.
- 49:30And you know, you're never down and out, right?
- 49:32Like, I feel like even though matchups may seem lopsided on a
- 49:35Tuesday or Monday, there's still so much hockey left to play.
- 49:38So listen, you hang on until the very end until the, let's say,
- 49:42until the fat lady sings. I don't know if we can still say
- 49:43that, but maybe I'll cut that out.
- 49:45We'll see, but the yeah, it's never over, so don't give up.
- 49:50And hopefully if you have any questions, let us know in the
- 49:52discord. But on that note, I guess you
- 49:54can take it away, Ernie. Barbara Bound Bound Bangor

- 50:01Whoa, whoa. It is like the end of the second
- 50:05period and the Rangers have four shots on goal.
- 50:07Ottawa's got like 22. Isn't that that's crazy.
- 50:10That's crazy. Is it like?
