- 0:08Speaker 1: This is Me Eat podcast coming at you shirtless, severely
- 0:13Speaker 1: bug bitten in my case underwear listening to Hunt E podcast,
- 0:18Speaker 1: you can't predict anything presented by first, like creating proven
- 0:23Speaker 1: versatile hunting apparel from Marino bass layers to technical outerwear
- 0:27Speaker 1: for every hunt first, like go farther, stay longer, all everybody,
- 0:36Speaker 1: it's like the Alamo in here. So much Texas is
- 0:40Speaker 1: in the room. It's like the Alamo. Especially like the
- 0:45Speaker 1: Alamo because those dudes weren't Texans. Not really a lot
- 0:49Speaker 1: of more like like Crockett, he did he just We've
- 0:53Speaker 1: covered this. Crockett had just shown up in town. Dude,
- 0:58Speaker 1: how do you die? Yeah? Was he there? He was there?
- 1:01Speaker 1: And I think he quit me too. I think he's surrendered. Yep.
- 1:07Speaker 1: Texans don't like embrace Crockett. I don't think like some
- 1:12Speaker 1: of the movies make the ALBUMO thing out to be,
- 1:14Speaker 1: Oh you're not. Oh see, I get a whole different
- 1:16Speaker 1: Like Jesse Griffiths, he gets he gets visibly uncomfortable when
- 1:19Speaker 1: he started talking about he's South Texan though, you know
- 1:22Speaker 1: so yeah, so you guys are so so layout We're like, well,
- 1:26Speaker 1: first of all, I cover out, we're gonna get to
- 1:28Speaker 1: your Texas. You guys are both born in like actual Texas,
- 1:31Speaker 1: real Texans. But then this is Jordan's Sailers first time.
- 1:37Speaker 1: So are you pronounced your name Stillers? Stillers yea. I
- 1:39Speaker 1: used to think of Silers just from reading it too much. Stillers.
- 1:43Speaker 1: It's actually a very uncommon last name. Uh, You're not
- 1:48Speaker 1: You're you're barely even American. Man. Yeah, I live in Texas.
- 1:53Speaker 1: Now I've been embraced. I've married into the state. You
- 1:57Speaker 1: could say, born in Winnipeg, Canada. Up. Born in Winnipeg. Um,
- 2:02Speaker 1: lived there for well, lived in Calgary, actually for five
- 2:05Speaker 1: years in Alberta, and then moved to Texas when I
- 2:08Speaker 1: was seven. And then we moved to Virginia when I
- 2:11Speaker 1: was eleven. Um, and that's where my parents still are.
- 2:16Speaker 1: But now I live in Texas. Why were they Why
- 2:19Speaker 1: were they doing all that moving around for my dad
- 2:21Speaker 1: to go to grad school and then Virginia is where
- 2:24Speaker 1: he found a job out of college. If you go,
- 2:27Speaker 1: if you spend much time on our website, you've probably
- 2:32Speaker 1: read many of Jordan's uh caliber battles, gun battles. Yeah,
- 2:38Speaker 1: that's me, he writes. The comparison contrast dude. The other day,
- 2:42Speaker 1: I was actually doing a little comparison contrast research and
- 2:45Speaker 1: I want to just from Google Search, I want to
- 2:48Speaker 1: read one of your damn articles. Good, good, that's what
- 2:50Speaker 1: we want. We want it showing right up there, showing
- 2:53Speaker 1: right up. Yeah, I read it for real. Yeah. Yeah.
- 2:58Speaker 1: I had a buddy just tell me the other day.
- 3:00Speaker 1: He was like, I'm trying to figure out whether I forget.
- 3:03Speaker 1: It was like three or eight or six five, and
- 3:05Speaker 1: I found this article. I started reading it and I
- 3:07Speaker 1: looked up and I realized, hey, I know that guy.
- 3:10Speaker 1: So yeah, trying to think about when I was digging
- 3:12Speaker 1: into I think I was digging into the um two
- 3:17Speaker 1: fifty seven weather be versus the the whether the man.
- 3:29Speaker 1: I've written a lot of these. I'd have to look
- 3:31Speaker 1: it at. There's like a twenty six on six right
- 3:33Speaker 1: or something like that, Like, would it makes sense that
- 3:38Speaker 1: I was comparing the two seven weather be with the
- 3:41Speaker 1: six Yeah? I think so they're both caliber cost difference
- 3:46Speaker 1: on the AMMO. Yeah. Yeah, that's big. That's big. And
- 3:49Speaker 1: that's something I think people don't often like think about
- 3:53Speaker 1: when they're buying a gun. Yeah, and then they go
- 3:55Speaker 1: try to buy m O and because it I think
- 3:58Speaker 1: it has to be cheap enough to pray just with.
- 4:00Speaker 1: You know, you want to be able to go out
- 4:02Speaker 1: and practice with the gun. You're gonna you're gonna use
- 4:05Speaker 1: hunting and if the AMMO is too expensive, you can't
- 4:07Speaker 1: really do that. So how do you get when you're
- 4:09Speaker 1: doing a caliber battle? How do you break it down? Uh?
- 4:11Speaker 1: So the first categories ballistics UM, which is just like
- 4:16Speaker 1: how fast is the bullet going, what is it weigh
- 4:19Speaker 1: what's the energy? Um? And then the second is shootability.
- 4:23Speaker 1: So we talked about um the recoil, so we we
- 4:26Speaker 1: say how much does it hurt your shoulder and your wallet? Um? So,
- 4:30Speaker 1: how much does it recoil? And then how much does
- 4:33Speaker 1: the AMMO cost? And then we look at versatility. It's
- 4:36Speaker 1: the last one. You know what I think is the
- 4:37Speaker 1: least shootable gun on the planet, even though I've owned
- 4:39Speaker 1: him and like them. Yeah is the seven? Yeah? How is?
- 4:45Speaker 1: It doesn't make sense? It is the fastest punch to
- 4:49Speaker 1: the head. It's like it's the most accelerated punch to
- 4:54Speaker 1: your jaw comes so fast. Yeah, for a while I
- 4:59Speaker 1: was shooting, is said, have a millimane or three s
- 5:01Speaker 1: h and three SEV and H kicks, but it's like
- 5:04Speaker 1: it takes five minutes for the kick to play out. Yeah,
- 5:06Speaker 1: so it's not that bad. It's like yeah, yeah, it
- 5:12Speaker 1: depends on the weight of the gun to seven MILLI
- 5:14Speaker 1: like pop, that's what I was purchased as my first
- 5:18Speaker 1: deer off like nine years old. Oh yeah, it's like,
- 5:23Speaker 1: why are my teeth? I'm surprised. I'm surprised you stuck
- 5:26Speaker 1: with it. I'm a bone hunter now. The Yeah, so shootability,
- 5:33Speaker 1: which is that yep? And then versatility. We talked about
- 5:37Speaker 1: kind of the range of animals that can be taken with,
- 5:41Speaker 1: which comes out on how many loads you can get
- 5:42Speaker 1: for it. In some respects, Yeah, a lot of times
- 5:44Speaker 1: it's like the range of bullet weights. Um so if
- 5:48Speaker 1: you have something that can go down to kind of
- 5:51Speaker 1: those light varmint bullets and then up to like you know,
- 5:54Speaker 1: elk and moose, then it's it has a good range.
- 5:57Speaker 1: I was thinking today you should do like, um, like
- 6:00Speaker 1: imagine it all that ship's like the playoffs? Right no, no, no,
- 6:05Speaker 1: that was all regular season, right sports sports analogies, God
- 6:12Speaker 1: bless you for trying to you know, someone should start
- 6:15Speaker 1: app it'd be a great app. Politicians will be able
- 6:18Speaker 1: to use it and stuff where you type in the
- 6:20Speaker 1: thing and then it generates a sports analogy. That's good. Yeah,
- 6:24Speaker 1: So you could be like, if you're just trying to
- 6:26Speaker 1: connect with the common man, I could use that. You
- 6:28Speaker 1: can like type it in and it's spit out like
- 6:31Speaker 1: a like a yeah, great sports analogy, new kind of yeah,
- 6:36Speaker 1: a new kind of AI. So to put into sports analogy,
- 6:38Speaker 1: it has been the regular season, Yeah yeah, you're gonna
- 6:42Speaker 1: have the playoffs and then you're gonna have the ind
- 6:48Speaker 1: five so close and then you're gonna have Yeah. Yeah,
- 6:54Speaker 1: I've thought about doing a kind of March Madness like Brackett,
- 6:58Speaker 1: you know, just just to throw another analogy out there. Yeah. Yeah.
- 7:04Speaker 1: It starts to be tricky because like if you're comparing
- 7:08Speaker 1: like a like a twenty too long rifle, it's like
- 7:11Speaker 1: a three o eight. It's like it's hard to really
- 7:14Speaker 1: but I think that you would wind up doing um,
- 7:19Speaker 1: like you know, like small game. Yeah, there you go,
- 7:23Speaker 1: different greatest of the greatest, like verse, you could do
- 7:26Speaker 1: the greatest versatile big game gun. There you go, like
- 7:29Speaker 1: you're gonna buy one of them, Lord knows, who knows
- 7:31Speaker 1: what you're gonna go do with it. Yeah. Uh another
- 7:36Speaker 1: question for it would be too late now Auxid already
- 7:38Speaker 1: came out. Yeah, but you're you're you guys are working
- 7:41Speaker 1: on a big expose. Yeah, the beaver expose. Yeah, the
- 7:46Speaker 1: beaver letter right yeah, um yeah, it's coming out today
- 7:52Speaker 1: the day we're recording the podcast. So, um, you only
- 7:56Speaker 1: just go into it, no, just give it a quick
- 7:58Speaker 1: like a quick of course. Okay. Yeah. So um uh
- 8:01Speaker 1: this letter from an organization called the Western Watersheds Project.
- 8:06Speaker 1: They're gonna send a letter to the President Joe Biden,
- 8:10Speaker 1: um requesting that he's uh past an executive order that
- 8:15Speaker 1: bands beaver hunting and trapping on all federal public land
- 8:19Speaker 1: in the US. Um. So the article, we we're kind
- 8:23Speaker 1: of going to break that down and and investigate that.
- 8:26Speaker 1: So meaning uh one wildlife manager put it like, uh,
- 8:31Speaker 1: you're taking a sledge hammer to an issue that requires
- 8:35Speaker 1: a scalpel. Yeah. We had a little bit of chuckle
- 8:39Speaker 1: about this. Can we just can we talk about this
- 8:40Speaker 1: at all? Yeah? I think so what they're saying is
- 8:46Speaker 1: there's some that they're they're saying that like, because of
- 8:49Speaker 1: climate change issues, it's better to have more beavers out there.
- 8:53Speaker 1: Holding back more water. Um. But then simultaneous with them
- 8:58Speaker 1: writing this letter is a out of reporting coming out
- 9:01Speaker 1: of the Arctic where beavers are invading the Arctic because
- 9:06Speaker 1: the climate change and they're exacerbating climate change because of
- 9:10Speaker 1: their activities in the Arctic. So then here you have
- 9:14Speaker 1: these guys making this really ham handed. This gets this
- 9:17Speaker 1: gets funny in the minute, making this very ham handed thing,
- 9:20Speaker 1: like all federally managed public lands, well the American Arctic
- 9:25Speaker 1: is I don't know what nine federally managed public lands.
- 9:30Speaker 1: So you're saying to mitigate climate change, we're going to
- 9:33Speaker 1: remove a tool you would use to address climate change.
- 9:37Speaker 1: And then Jordan goes to them for comments and they're like, oh,
- 9:41Speaker 1: we didn't really think about that. Hold on, will adjust
- 9:44Speaker 1: the letter? Yeah yeah. They they say they haven't seen
- 9:50Speaker 1: the adjusted that they haven't seen the adjusted letter. Yeah yeah,
- 9:53Speaker 1: which by the time, you know, by the time you're
- 9:55Speaker 1: listening to this, maybe they've made those adjustments. But yeah,
- 9:59Speaker 1: and I pointed, in our own state, you have very
- 10:02Speaker 1: fine tuned management of the resource. And I counted up,
- 10:06Speaker 1: so you have they're managed across seven regions. Eleven counties
- 10:10Speaker 1: have closures. This is not a thing that they no
- 10:14Speaker 1: one's willy nilly about the management of the resource. Yeah,
- 10:18Speaker 1: you have state for bear biologist, you know. I mean
- 10:20Speaker 1: to be like, well, I'm gonna talk to him, President Biden,
- 10:24Speaker 1: and he's going to end the whole thing. Yeah. No,
- 10:27Speaker 1: do you people know what you're doing? Yeah, I mean
- 10:29Speaker 1: they have a sound like, well they do. I mean,
- 10:32Speaker 1: that's pretty much what they say that. They have a
- 10:35Speaker 1: line in the letter that talks about how state game
- 10:39Speaker 1: agencies are kind of beholden to hunters, and that's why
- 10:45Speaker 1: it's interesting that they say that Native they they feel
- 10:47Speaker 1: that Native Americans would still be allowed to hunt beavers. Yeah,
- 10:51Speaker 1: they because those ones, those beavers don't help climate change. Yeah, yeah,
- 10:56Speaker 1: they have. Those beavers are not helpful. They have a
- 10:59Speaker 1: few exceptions, one of which are our Native Americans. Yeah,
- 11:03Speaker 1: those beavers, like bro I was gonna hurt climate change. Um.
- 11:09Speaker 1: Jordan's also a huge help on Cal's Weekend Review as well.
- 11:12Speaker 1: So I just want to throw that out there, rock Star. Yeah,
- 11:14Speaker 1: I've been I've been helping Cale with that podcast for
- 11:17Speaker 1: a long time. That's really fun. Hunter Spencer's here. Tell
- 11:22Speaker 1: him about the work you've been doing on the blue
- 11:24Speaker 1: collar Scholars Uh. The Wild mill uh Wild milking Uh competition.
- 11:33Speaker 1: Tommy Edson, the blue collar scholar, has been on the
- 11:35Speaker 1: show before as as a trivia guest. He thought he
- 11:37Speaker 1: kicks acid trivia. We had him out. He got beat bad.
- 11:41Speaker 1: I later learned that part of his secret is that
- 11:43Speaker 1: he pauses to think, and explaining he pauses to think,
- 11:53Speaker 1: so that's a problem. He is on a is the
- 11:57Speaker 1: rodeo event I didn't know about where you hold down
- 12:01Speaker 1: cows and milk him. Yeah. I think the guy like it.
- 12:05Speaker 1: It looks like it's like a team of three or four.
- 12:08Speaker 1: I think two of them are supposed to be able
- 12:11Speaker 1: to go out there and and rope it in some
- 12:14Speaker 1: form or grab it by by the head, and whoever
- 12:18Speaker 1: you can get And then you've got the guy that's
- 12:20Speaker 1: got the milk you know the container. Um, Yeah, and
- 12:25Speaker 1: whoever gets the milk fastest and sprints back to the judge. Yeah,
- 12:28Speaker 1: he's got a team. He wanted. We're gonna sponsor his team.
- 12:32Speaker 1: You know how much cost a sponsor his Wild Milk
- 12:34Speaker 1: team Bucks. However, he says he's going to donate all
- 12:39Speaker 1: the windings back that will roll into the l A.
- 12:44Speaker 1: I so we could come out ahead. Is he a
- 12:45Speaker 1: raw milk drinker? That's a great question. I bet he
- 12:50Speaker 1: gets a little in there. I'm just n no, Yeah,
- 12:58Speaker 1: he might be at the bottom of the horse you so,
- 13:02Speaker 1: uh yeah, yeah, there might be a gnome writing a
- 13:07Speaker 1: wild Well, yeah, I want. I wanted to Hunter to
- 13:10Speaker 1: be like, dude, you need to make a logo for
- 13:11Speaker 1: his milk rodeo team. And then a Hunter was supposed
- 13:14Speaker 1: to be doing normal stuffer his job. Someone found out,
- 13:16Speaker 1: someone named Tracy found out that I've done this half
- 13:19Speaker 1: a plectic that I would have taken Tommy Wild. I
- 13:24Speaker 1: was like, we need a logo for Tommy's Wild Milk team.
- 13:28Speaker 1: And then I later learned you're supposed to have You
- 13:29Speaker 1: had other stuff you're supposed to be working on. But
- 13:32Speaker 1: it's the it's our nome friend riding a big milk
- 13:34Speaker 1: and cow with a jug of milk, and it's bucking.
- 13:39Speaker 1: He's riding a bucking milk cow. Ye celebratory lap around
- 13:45Speaker 1: the ring with his h jugging milk. Dude. I think
- 13:48Speaker 1: that people are gonna when we when we finished that
- 13:50Speaker 1: T shirt, that's gonna be a hot selling T shirt.
- 13:52Speaker 1: It's gonna be I don't know if it messes up
- 13:54Speaker 1: Tommy that his team will have a shirt that's like
- 13:56Speaker 1: widely available to the public. I think it'll go on
- 14:00Speaker 1: an audience sports put this into the sports analogy. We're
- 14:05Speaker 1: going back to that that that professional sports players. You
- 14:12Speaker 1: drank milk when you win the ND five. D Oh
- 14:15Speaker 1: you do it? Champagne? Yeah, champagne. No, there's like all
- 14:19Speaker 1: milk drinking thing. Yeah, it's like, yeah, if your leg
- 14:23Speaker 1: tols a tolerant or allergic to dairy milk. We gotta
- 14:29Speaker 1: put the bottom of the horseshoe on that shirt and
- 14:32Speaker 1: then it'll be very applicable when people show you what's
- 14:38Speaker 1: on a dollar bill, all the crazy ship and symbolism
- 14:41Speaker 1: on there, you know, like the yeah, I'll have a
- 14:45Speaker 1: little horseshoe on there and people are looking at it.
- 14:46Speaker 1: You know what that means, don't you? Um? Okay, keep
- 14:51Speaker 1: the guys from the Element are here. Can you guys
- 14:53Speaker 1: introduce yourselves. Then we gotta do a couple of things
- 14:55Speaker 1: that we're gonna dig in heavy duty. I'm Tyler Jones,
- 14:57Speaker 1: and um, I've got two kids in a while, and
- 15:00Speaker 1: I like to bow hunt deer. There you go, yeah,
- 15:02Speaker 1: says it all Um Casey Smith and Tyler Jones took
- 15:05Speaker 1: my answer. So, yeah, Texas. You guys each have a
- 15:08Speaker 1: wife and two kids yesterday, and you both like to
- 15:10Speaker 1: hunt deer. Absolutely, so we're gonna we're gonna spend a
- 15:13Speaker 1: bunch of time with the with Tyler Casey. But if
- 15:15Speaker 1: you go into YouTube whatever type in the element, you'll
- 15:18Speaker 1: find find a lot of these guys, uh dear bow
- 15:21Speaker 1: hunting materials all over the place. Do a little bit
- 15:25Speaker 1: of that of Texas land public well some no, yeah,
- 15:30Speaker 1: a little bit. Um. What's kind of how we had
- 15:33Speaker 1: to start. Not to say a lot of Texas public
- 15:35Speaker 1: land is a little bit a misnomer there. Yeah, well
- 15:39Speaker 1: just uh that's where we kind of started doing this
- 15:41Speaker 1: stuff and filming and all that, because you had to. Yeah,
- 15:44Speaker 1: it's what's close to home, and we're kind of priced
- 15:47Speaker 1: out of the leasing game, you know, So that's what
- 15:50Speaker 1: we started doing together. Old I started hunting public land
- 15:55Speaker 1: and Texas when I was about toil Thank for white tails. Yeah.
- 15:58Speaker 1: I grew up duck hunting public around mostly that's what that's.
- 16:02Speaker 1: My dad owns a fishing lodge on like fork and
- 16:05Speaker 1: you know, naturally there's the birds around. So grew up
- 16:10Speaker 1: hunting like fork for ducks, and you guys both got started. Yon, Yeah,
- 16:14Speaker 1: I was probably. I started warter fou hunting about eight
- 16:18Speaker 1: so deer hunting next year after that, and bo hunting
- 16:22Speaker 1: about sixteen. That's great, we're gonna dig into that. We
- 16:25Speaker 1: gotta talk. So Cran, you want to talk abou the
- 16:26Speaker 1: bottom of the Horseshoe. Okay, the guy rode in. You're
- 16:31Speaker 1: gonna do it? Oh you just you just didn't you
- 16:33Speaker 1: just say that. I'd love it if you did it. No,
- 16:35Speaker 1: I don't want to do it. You need to practice.
- 16:39Speaker 1: You need to practice. Present here we go. Do you
- 16:44Speaker 1: want me to do it? I think you should do it.
- 16:46Speaker 1: I think it's funnier if you do it. Yeah, you'll
- 16:49Speaker 1: be reading the list out loud and chuckling about it.
- 16:52Speaker 1: So we had an episode called lung King. Oh it
- 16:54Speaker 1: was named after the liver King, but I think there
- 16:56Speaker 1: was there like a big liver King expose. Oh yeah,
- 16:59Speaker 1: he's totally up. Everybody knows that. I mean, just look,
- 17:02Speaker 1: he had ad implants. He did that too. He was
- 17:07Speaker 1: just a really heavy socle and was saying, you know,
- 17:10Speaker 1: all the raw meat was what was making him big.
- 17:12Speaker 1: Fellow Tex for sure, yeah, I should have had him
- 17:16Speaker 1: in here. Well, you know what I need to talk about?
- 17:20Speaker 1: Can you hear me from it? I forgot a whole
- 17:23Speaker 1: thing top about Tommy Edson. He like he like like
- 17:27Speaker 1: he's like Seth and he seems to be like he's
- 17:29Speaker 1: always shopping for a boat, like perpetually shops for boats.
- 17:34Speaker 1: How many does he own? I don't know one. I
- 17:37Speaker 1: don't know. He's always shopping for boats. He sent me.
- 17:39Speaker 1: I gotta I gotta slightly edit this. He sent me
- 17:44Speaker 1: a boat listing for a boat that's up for sale
- 17:46Speaker 1: right now on offer up. Does he want need to
- 17:49Speaker 1: check to see if it's like legit? No, I gotta
- 17:51Speaker 1: edit it because it's um. Remember in the movie Spinal Tap,
- 17:55Speaker 1: he gets accused of being sexes, but he doesn't know
- 17:57Speaker 1: what it means and thinks he says, what's wrong with
- 17:59Speaker 1: being sexy? No, didn't see a spinal Tap. It's in
- 18:02Speaker 1: my top five movies of all time. I gotta slightly
- 18:05Speaker 1: eye at this. Tommy sent me this boat he wants.
- 18:08Speaker 1: This boat listed is my sixteen foot tracker deep v pro.
- 18:14Speaker 1: This boat is a fish killing bastard. It should be outlawed.
- 18:18Speaker 1: And forty nine of fifty states, why not all fifty
- 18:21Speaker 1: because no one fishes in California. Here's the thing, though,
- 18:27Speaker 1: I looked it up this morning. California has twice as
- 18:30Speaker 1: many fishermen as Washington. California has just over two million fishermen.
- 18:34Speaker 1: Washington has less than a million. It's easy, my mom,
- 18:44Speaker 1: I was, I was watching. My mom gets news only
- 18:46Speaker 1: from one place, Like she only watches Fox News because
- 18:50Speaker 1: it doesn't even go read other news like that elsewhere.
- 18:53Speaker 1: So in her mind, the news is what they cover.
- 18:56Speaker 1: She said to be there morning, we're watching Fox News,
- 18:59Speaker 1: and she said this countr would be a lot better
- 19:01Speaker 1: if they got rid of New York California. And I said,
- 19:04Speaker 1: what do you mean, mom, because of the crime. Yes,
- 19:09Speaker 1: So I said, well, let's take a look. So I
- 19:10Speaker 1: started researching violent crime and I didn't spend much time
- 19:13Speaker 1: on it, but I found one thing that's like, Mom,
- 19:16Speaker 1: if you're gonna ditch states because of violent crime, you
- 19:19Speaker 1: gotta get rid of Arkansas. First. Well, I don't know
- 19:23Speaker 1: about that. I was like, here's filer crime per hundred
- 19:29Speaker 1: thousand people, and there you can't even like like if
- 19:32Speaker 1: I was like, California's like eleven. Oh, there's a lot
- 19:37Speaker 1: of hate, a bunch of people like Clay running around
- 19:39Speaker 1: in Arkansas. Crime that is an oxym. I'm not gonna
- 19:48Speaker 1: read the rest of it. It's a great boat description,
- 19:50Speaker 1: but just strive me like how just casually you can
- 19:52Speaker 1: throw hate their way. You know, facts be damned not
- 19:58Speaker 1: to mention it's a huge large mouth bass fisher. That'll
- 20:00Speaker 1: tell you. Yeah. We had a big conversation with two
- 20:03Speaker 1: airline pilots on the way over yesterday, one of them
- 20:06Speaker 1: from California, and we were names. Um. We were just
- 20:10Speaker 1: talk about word from and we told him kind of
- 20:12Speaker 1: what we did and he was like, oh, yeah, I
- 20:14Speaker 1: know some people at fish or something like that. You know.
- 20:16Speaker 1: So the pilot says, you, where are you from? Yeah?
- 20:20Speaker 1: We and we we talked about like four yeah, because
- 20:23Speaker 1: people know we're like four yeah. Yeah. To give you
- 20:27Speaker 1: the little wings that you can pin under your used
- 20:32Speaker 1: to give it out with peanuts. But my kids, when
- 20:36Speaker 1: I was a kid, I had that on the wall.
- 20:37Speaker 1: I had this, they do I've been seen one since
- 20:40Speaker 1: I was a child. Well there's a reason for that.
- 20:45Speaker 1: Do you ask the tour of the cockpit, I do not.
- 20:51Speaker 1: I'm the long King episode. We got to talking about
- 20:55Speaker 1: the bottom of the horse shoe, where the right and
- 20:57Speaker 1: the left come back together and meet. You're following me,
- 21:03Speaker 1: like picture of horse shoes, hang with the open end up,
- 21:05Speaker 1: and he's like, the political right the political left, Well,
- 21:08Speaker 1: there's areas where they get along at the bottom of it.
- 21:13Speaker 1: This guy says, I've worked in politics in various shapes
- 21:15Speaker 1: and forms for more than fifteen years, and working in
- 21:17Speaker 1: a legislative office. A number of staff members have noticed
- 21:20Speaker 1: this phenomenon over the years based on the context we
- 21:24Speaker 1: have received in our office. Here's some of the topics
- 21:27Speaker 1: to include pro raw milk, let's go, pro home schooling,
- 21:37Speaker 1: anti five G, anti fluoride and water, pro home baked
- 21:44Speaker 1: and other goods. Wait, but the parenthetical statement parenthetical for
- 21:49Speaker 1: sale at farmers market and not prepared and an inspected
- 21:52Speaker 1: commercial kitchen. I get that carrot cake and banana bread
- 21:56Speaker 1: from the hutter rights all the time at the local
- 22:00Speaker 1: Anti contrails, chemtrails, COVID you and Agenda one, natural pathic doctors,
- 22:11Speaker 1: and essential oils. So when I write my book called
- 22:16Speaker 1: the Bottom of the Horseshoe, which is an exploration of
- 22:20Speaker 1: where we how areas where we all get along, we'll
- 22:23Speaker 1: be able to include those in there on raw milk
- 22:27Speaker 1: another man, So there was was there a lot of
- 22:29Speaker 1: a lot of raw milk? A lot of feedback? Guys says,
- 22:36Speaker 1: I like the perspective of Dr Reisman on episode four
- 22:38Speaker 1: O nine. Is refreshing to hear doctor questions some of
- 22:41Speaker 1: the norms without being a pseudo scientist quack. I grew
- 22:46Speaker 1: up farming and we always drank fresh, raw milk for
- 22:48Speaker 1: practical reasons. I never thought much of it until I
- 22:52Speaker 1: fell in love with and married a city girl. When
- 22:54Speaker 1: we settled down and started a family, naturally, I bought
- 22:57Speaker 1: a cow, as one does pretty quickly float Pretty quickly, folks,
- 23:05Speaker 1: including my wife, had me questioning whether it was safe
- 23:08Speaker 1: for my children to drink the milk from my cow.
- 23:12Speaker 1: One day, I was on the phone feeling guilty with
- 23:13Speaker 1: a farmer friend, debating if I wasn't irresponsible parent because
- 23:16Speaker 1: I was giving my kids raw milk. Can I interject
- 23:20Speaker 1: real quick? My dad would bring home raw milk and
- 23:25Speaker 1: we called it cow's milk. He's like, it's all cow's milk,
- 23:29Speaker 1: But for some reason in our head, raw milk is
- 23:31Speaker 1: cow's milk to be differentiated from milk, which came from
- 23:36Speaker 1: heaven like the suck he brought home. Dude had like
- 23:41Speaker 1: grass floating it. Man, it was his body was a
- 23:45Speaker 1: dairy farmer named Mr Overley, and he brought home milk.
- 23:48Speaker 1: You had like this milk? Would like separate out right?
- 23:51Speaker 1: Um back to the letter. As I was standing there
- 23:57Speaker 1: on the phone, my one point five year old son
- 23:59Speaker 1: was crawling around the are next to me. I was
- 24:00Speaker 1: pretty stressed out when I looked down to try and
- 24:02Speaker 1: figure out what my son was so focused on. As
- 24:05Speaker 1: I watched him, he was crawling behind the barnyard ducks
- 24:08Speaker 1: with a determined look on his face. As the ducks
- 24:10Speaker 1: would take a ship, he would quickly grab it up
- 24:13Speaker 1: and eat it, then proceed to continue following the ducks,
- 24:17Speaker 1: obviously looking for more. I cut my friend off on
- 24:20Speaker 1: the phone and said, he says a naughty word here.
- 24:25Speaker 1: He said, to hell with it. The milk is not
- 24:27Speaker 1: going to hurt him. It's good thinking. Have your kids
- 24:33Speaker 1: ever eating duck poop? One time we were squirrel hunting,
- 24:36Speaker 1: and my daughter we told the story last night at
- 24:38Speaker 1: the dinner table, We're duck hunting. I turned around. My
- 24:40Speaker 1: dag's spitting yeah, eating dear ship. Look like little chocolates
- 24:51Speaker 1: and I was like rosy eating this and I held
- 24:53Speaker 1: up for dear ship and she's it looked brown M
- 24:59Speaker 1: and m' you got you got you guys ready for
- 25:04Speaker 1: ethics one. Absolutely, it's about tree stance song and put
- 25:08Speaker 1: it to the I'm gonna put it to the to
- 25:10Speaker 1: the element. Boys here, why you why are you justtured
- 25:13Speaker 1: towards your colleague, because we've had some experience with this
- 25:16Speaker 1: and you'll have some good anecdotal thoughts here. Do you
- 25:20Speaker 1: guys know we we have a thing called Chatticotte, which
- 25:22Speaker 1: is Chester. If you combine Chester and etiquette, chat makes sense.
- 25:27Speaker 1: That's one of our favorite things today is to find
- 25:28Speaker 1: two words. Yeah, we did all time. Also, if you
- 25:31Speaker 1: have a series of three words, will take the first
- 25:33Speaker 1: letter of each of those and yeah, which happens more
- 25:37Speaker 1: often than you think in the English language, like little
- 25:40Speaker 1: buck down. Yeah, there's a like a an adjective, a noun,
- 25:45Speaker 1: and a verb. It's a thing that happens in the
- 25:47Speaker 1: English language. So yeah, like h b H yeah or
- 25:54Speaker 1: b h A. They have a new one for that.
- 25:56Speaker 1: They're telling me this morning. Shoot at guys. Yeah, So
- 25:59Speaker 1: there's this like orzation out there called b h A.
- 26:01Speaker 1: Are you familiar with it? It's called the Bozeman Had Association.
- 26:05Speaker 1: So it's you and this is Tyler's by the way,
- 26:08Speaker 1: this is how you came up with this. He's the
- 26:09Speaker 1: genius here. But like there's a certain membership here in
- 26:14Speaker 1: Bozeman of hat wearers that are unlike other places. Right, So,
- 26:18Speaker 1: like if you're a member of the Bozeman Had Association,
- 26:21Speaker 1: there's a couple of qualifications, a couple of what do
- 26:23Speaker 1: they call them, um, you know, different groups within the group, right, um.
- 26:27Speaker 1: But there's like the flat bill like cowboy hat but
- 26:30Speaker 1: not that's kind of felt. And then there's like another
- 26:33Speaker 1: cowboy hat but not it's like Montana like that wolf
- 26:37Speaker 1: felt kind of hat. Yeah, like Indiana Jones head yeah
- 26:40Speaker 1: kind of yeah yeah yeah, but I mean a lot
- 26:44Speaker 1: of gals wear that I guess would be like, oh yeah,
- 26:47Speaker 1: will wear it for sure. Yeah. It's it's got a
- 26:49Speaker 1: bigger brand than in Fedora. Yeah yeah yeah. And then
- 26:53Speaker 1: it's kind of like yeah, it's like you're kind of
- 26:55Speaker 1: half hopping through the Daisies kind of half Western yeah yeah, yeah,
- 27:00Speaker 1: yeah yeah, those are members of the Daisies. And then
- 27:03Speaker 1: there's like maybe like a a chet hat or somebody
- 27:07Speaker 1: like that that has like it's kind of like the
- 27:09Speaker 1: fly fish and hat that has a rope across you know,
- 27:11Speaker 1: kind of the between the bill and the top there.
- 27:14Speaker 1: In other words, when we were at d f W,
- 27:16Speaker 1: that's not that's an Austin hat bro Well those places
- 27:20Speaker 1: there are h members in Austin. For the Branch Act.
- 27:28Speaker 1: We knew the gate that we were supposed to be
- 27:30Speaker 1: in just by looking at the v h A. Membership
- 27:34Speaker 1: at the gate W changed a few times and we
- 27:36Speaker 1: followed the we have to see what because yeah, the
- 27:39Speaker 1: rope pad is retro you're like harkening back to a
- 27:43Speaker 1: simpler time when old men had those hats like that
- 27:45Speaker 1: cat usually one by people who can't remember those times.
- 27:49Speaker 1: Actually the second hand information, no, I think they're a
- 27:53Speaker 1: little aware that it's like harkening back to a different times.
- 27:56Speaker 1: There's all of the that there's a t T bit
- 28:00Speaker 1: of irony. M hmm. Irony makes it fun for sure. Yeah. Yeah,
- 28:06Speaker 1: So those are the two main categories. Yeah, those are
- 28:08Speaker 1: two main ones. And and then there's like a bridge
- 28:11Speaker 1: between all that where it's like if it has a
- 28:13Speaker 1: little bit of like jade on it or something like that.
- 28:16Speaker 1: You know what like that whatever the bluestone is, um,
- 28:21Speaker 1: you know kind of a design turise turquoise, yeah, not turquoise. Yeah.
- 28:26Speaker 1: What about when you you get yourself a king rope
- 28:29Speaker 1: pad even though you've never been within fifty ft of
- 28:31Speaker 1: a of a of a rope being used. I'm not
- 28:34Speaker 1: faguing with a king Rob Pad. What does that? Somehow
- 28:37Speaker 1: I don't understand it. Well, it's a company that makes
- 28:40Speaker 1: roping ropes. Okay, yeah, but if you like to ski
- 28:44Speaker 1: a lot, you get yourself a king rope pat as
- 28:48Speaker 1: though you're roping. Well, there's a little bit of correlation.
- 28:51Speaker 1: You do a little more, Yes, got to spend more time.
- 28:53Speaker 1: Deal You're you're you're definitely assuming that being a text
- 28:56Speaker 1: it makes you cowboy. That's what they're talking about, the
- 28:58Speaker 1: king Rob pad. If you google it, it's exactly what
- 29:00Speaker 1: they're talking about. That. Like with the it's like a
- 29:04Speaker 1: little flat where the forehead is, and then it's like
- 29:08Speaker 1: a shorter bill and there's a rope across and it's
- 29:10Speaker 1: like two toned, often including corduroy. Got you so skiers
- 29:16Speaker 1: do that? Here? It means you like to ski a lot? Okay,
- 29:20Speaker 1: which is weird because there's a big ski area here
- 29:23Speaker 1: near here called Big Sky, and if you go to
- 29:26Speaker 1: the hotel there, they don't dress up like their skiing.
- 29:29Speaker 1: They dress up like their cattle ranchers. They make the
- 29:32Speaker 1: valets and stuff dress like their cattle ranchers. When you're
- 29:38Speaker 1: sort of like the antithesis, it's the throwback still second information.
- 29:44Speaker 1: There's like a thing it would be like if you
- 29:46Speaker 1: were at a place trying to think of it. Put
- 29:48Speaker 1: this into the sports analogy. Let's go to be up
- 29:52Speaker 1: to work in Big Sky with a cattle rancher outfit
- 29:54Speaker 1: on would be like if you worked at Peda and
- 29:59Speaker 1: wore a ink coat. Mm hmm. That's not sports. No,
- 30:04Speaker 1: it's different. You guys right for this check question. I
- 30:09Speaker 1: have a cheka question to submit to the council. But
- 30:12Speaker 1: you guys are honorary right now. I hung a climb
- 30:17Speaker 1: and stand on public land in October, about a mile
- 30:19Speaker 1: from the road. I killed a buck from it. In November.
- 30:23Speaker 1: I hunted one day in early I'm already getting confused.
- 30:27Speaker 1: I gotta back up. I didn't I was gonna get
- 30:29Speaker 1: this complicated. Those dates don't matter too much. I hung
- 30:33Speaker 1: a no, No, I'm paying attention to Sometimes I go
- 30:35Speaker 1: into things thinking the not complicating. I hung a climb
- 30:39Speaker 1: and stand on public land in October a mile from
- 30:43Speaker 1: the road, killed a buck from it in November. I
- 30:49Speaker 1: hunted one day in early December. Guess track. Up to
- 30:55Speaker 1: that point, I had seen no sign of other hunters
- 30:57Speaker 1: in the area. After each set, I left the stand
- 31:01Speaker 1: at the bottom of the tree. I hunted today and
- 31:09Speaker 1: when I got to my stand, someone had hung a climber.
- 31:14Speaker 1: I love it. Yeah, I'm sorry. Today when I got
- 31:19Speaker 1: to my stand, so I had hung a climber in
- 31:21Speaker 1: the same tree above my stand. I love it, dude,
- 31:29Speaker 1: I've never heard of that happening. I had to unhook
- 31:35Speaker 1: my stand and reattach it above the other stand to
- 31:38Speaker 1: climb the tree. That's a great story. I ended up
- 31:44Speaker 1: shooting a dough right at dusk and climbed down in
- 31:46Speaker 1: a hurry because it wasn't sure how good the hit was. Well,
- 31:51Speaker 1: it doesn't make a help less sense. True. It depends
- 31:55Speaker 1: on where you here. Yeah, whatever, whatever about the story.
- 31:58Speaker 1: Maybe you want to just go look at their Maybe
- 32:00Speaker 1: you need something we don't. I intended to put my stamp.
- 32:02Speaker 1: I like that that you're sticking up for the guy.
- 32:04Speaker 1: It's good. So you're not like people on social media.
- 32:08Speaker 1: No matter what you do, they find a problem. You
- 32:10Speaker 1: should be liked. Be great social media for Sona. Instead
- 32:13Speaker 1: of being like, I wouldn't skin it that way, I
- 32:15Speaker 1: wouldn't do that that way, be like, um, just be
- 32:19Speaker 1: like a kind of guy who goes on social in
- 32:21Speaker 1: the comments to actually be like, uh, you know, really interesting.
- 32:24Speaker 1: I'm sure he had a wonderful I'm sure he had
- 32:26Speaker 1: a great justification for the way he did it. No,
- 32:29Speaker 1: he's a supportive soul. He does youth ministry. Yea sometimes
- 32:33Speaker 1: Uh probably am just being nice because you know, who knows?
- 32:36Speaker 1: Who knows? Uh, you have a what's the comment that
- 32:41Speaker 1: um that guy made on So we have a pretty
- 32:43Speaker 1: viral video of Tyler shooting a big buck at a
- 32:46Speaker 1: long range and smoked it right, But it's still there's
- 32:49Speaker 1: always somebody who's like, oh, it's the guts, you know,
- 32:51Speaker 1: it's kind of ridiculous. But this dude was like, it
- 32:53Speaker 1: wouldn't matter if you smoked a deer he died inside.
- 32:55Speaker 1: You use the same broadhead to skin him and gut
- 32:57Speaker 1: even packed him out on your back. There'd be somebody
- 32:59Speaker 1: telling you use the wrong product. Yeah, okay, So back
- 33:07Speaker 1: to our back to our individual the lead the tree
- 33:11Speaker 1: stand leap froggers. I ended up shooting a doll right
- 33:14Speaker 1: at dust and climbed down in a hurry because I
- 33:15Speaker 1: wasn't sure how good the hit was. I intended to
- 33:18Speaker 1: put my stand back. I intended to put my stand
- 33:21Speaker 1: back on the bottom, thinking the other hunter would probably
- 33:25Speaker 1: the next one he used the tree, but in the
- 33:27Speaker 1: heat of the moment, I forgot. So now he has
- 33:30Speaker 1: left his stand on top of the other man stand.
- 33:33Speaker 1: So my question is, what is the move if someone
- 33:37Speaker 1: does this? Have I potentially escalated the situation by leap
- 33:41Speaker 1: frogging the others hunters stand after he leap frogged mine,
- 33:49Speaker 1: goes on, I'm gonna I'm gonna go on. He has
- 33:52Speaker 1: a couple of clarifying points. I have a toddler and
- 33:55Speaker 1: pregnant wife at home. Here he's playing the sympathy card,
- 33:58Speaker 1: so I rarely get the scout hunt. I've also killed
- 34:01Speaker 1: two deer from this stand, and I'm not eager to
- 34:03Speaker 1: give up my spot. I'm happy to share its public land,
- 34:05Speaker 1: but I'm not sure what my next move should be.
- 34:08Speaker 1: I should point out that none of my stuff was
- 34:10Speaker 1: bothered or stolen, so take that into consideration when assessing
- 34:15Speaker 1: potential etiquette violations. I got a lot to safe, would
- 34:22Speaker 1: take it away. I love this question man um. Sometimes
- 34:27Speaker 1: without getting too deep tactically, the tree is the tree.
- 34:32Speaker 1: You have to be in that tree to kill deer
- 34:33Speaker 1: in that spot. I feel like as a bow hunter
- 34:37Speaker 1: with a gun, it's a little less maybe so, but
- 34:40Speaker 1: I can see I've actually been in this this position
- 34:45Speaker 1: before the leap froggerum or the leap frog. So I
- 34:50Speaker 1: killed a deer from a tree in and the next
- 34:54Speaker 1: year there was a tree stand in that tree. And
- 34:58Speaker 1: you can't claim a spot in the state with a
- 35:02Speaker 1: tree stand. You can you can legally hunt somebody else's
- 35:06Speaker 1: tree stand if they're not there. So, but this is
- 35:09Speaker 1: the tree, and this state does not have a lot
- 35:11Speaker 1: of trees in it. So it's one of those situations
- 35:14Speaker 1: where I have continue to hunt that tree some um.
- 35:20Speaker 1: But I don't know, it's just, uh, it's it's really
- 35:22Speaker 1: like as far as what he's asking, um, I mean,
- 35:26Speaker 1: you never know if you're gonna escalated situation. You don't
- 35:28Speaker 1: know what that guy's thinking, right, So Um, you try
- 35:32Speaker 1: not to, certainly, but it's kind of weird when guys
- 35:35Speaker 1: are walking around with deadly weapons out in the woods
- 35:37Speaker 1: and you don't know what their demeanor is, you know. Um,
- 35:40Speaker 1: I just think that if there's nothing messed up, this
- 35:43Speaker 1: is the same it's the same situation like leaving trail
- 35:45Speaker 1: cameras out you you, you know, try to be respectful
- 35:50Speaker 1: of other people's trail cameras and hope that they do
- 35:52Speaker 1: the same for you. You see, Guys, we actually had
- 35:53Speaker 1: a guy moon our trail cameras the other day. Understand that. Yeah, yeah,
- 35:59Speaker 1: I've I like that movie. Um, but yeah I don't.
- 36:03Speaker 1: I'm like, I know what's going on out here in
- 36:04Speaker 1: the woods. People do time White till by the moon,
- 36:10Speaker 1: So maybe he was given This guy's situation is like
- 36:26Speaker 1: an ethical net zero. I don't think there's any wrong
- 36:29Speaker 1: done in any of this that he's talking about. Now,
- 36:31Speaker 1: I can see where if he's I'm assuming this guy
- 36:34Speaker 1: is honest because I don't know him, so I'd like
- 36:35Speaker 1: to assume that, Um, if he's honest, that he didn't
- 36:37Speaker 1: mean to like, you know, stack the stand on top
- 36:40Speaker 1: the other guy. Then you know whatever, I think. I
- 36:44Speaker 1: like these two guys A lot. I think that you
- 36:47Speaker 1: would do it like I have a Like many guys.
- 36:50Speaker 1: I argue with my wife about toilet seat, I always
- 36:54Speaker 1: feel like, uh, I think that each user should position
- 36:58Speaker 1: it for their use according to the immediate need. Like
- 37:06Speaker 1: that's what I do. If I come in and find
- 37:08Speaker 1: the seat down, I adjust it according to what I'm
- 37:12Speaker 1: gonna do. I don't go like, well it's down now,
- 37:15Speaker 1: I have to live with it being down and then
- 37:18Speaker 1: p on the seat. So I adjusted ahead of time,
- 37:21Speaker 1: and I'm migrant. Why don't you? I tell my wife,
- 37:23Speaker 1: why don't you make these adjustments as need be and
- 37:30Speaker 1: not a plan on other people, anticipating who might use
- 37:33Speaker 1: it next, and then leave it fit for them to
- 37:36Speaker 1: what She'll point out that, like sitting down. If you
- 37:38Speaker 1: make a mistake and sit down when the seats up,
- 37:42Speaker 1: it's bad, it's not good. I could see him, if
- 37:46Speaker 1: he's really trying to I could see him taking my
- 37:49Speaker 1: wife's approach to toilet seat placement and being an extra
- 37:53Speaker 1: gentleman and move your movie or stand back down to
- 37:58Speaker 1: the bottom. I think I really appreciate you, like it's
- 38:00Speaker 1: all ready for you, my friend. Neither of these guys
- 38:03Speaker 1: touched each other stands. Well, that's what I was gonna say.
- 38:05Speaker 1: It's like, we know that the guy that wrote it
- 38:06Speaker 1: in is considered, but it seems as if potentially the
- 38:09Speaker 1: other guy was too, because he could have taken that
- 38:11Speaker 1: guy's stand off and just laid it by the trade.
- 38:13Speaker 1: But he didn't take his off. But it could have
- 38:15Speaker 1: been the same situation this guy that if forgot too,
- 38:17Speaker 1: because it's not a natural thing. If you plan on
- 38:19Speaker 1: leaving a stand, you don't usally take it off the
- 38:20Speaker 1: tree and put it back on again under another stand
- 38:23Speaker 1: But I'm just saying if he wanted to go extra.
- 38:24Speaker 1: But see, the thing I would worry about is I
- 38:26Speaker 1: would worry about psychologically. I would want him to know
- 38:30Speaker 1: that I'd been there and got one. So I could
- 38:33Speaker 1: picture taking my stand, moving it down, putting his up,
- 38:39Speaker 1: and then maybe scratching like a little notch or something,
- 38:42Speaker 1: and then have a little note that says I scratched
- 38:45Speaker 1: this not I make a notch every time I get
- 38:47Speaker 1: a deer. Here. Notice there's two fresh notches. So that
- 38:52Speaker 1: that person doesn't go thinking, you know, I'd want him
- 38:56Speaker 1: to know who he's dealing with, cold blooded killer. You
- 38:59Speaker 1: could have a a yearly banter back and forth, just
- 39:02Speaker 1: you just keep up with it out the same tree,
- 39:04Speaker 1: you know. It kind of like, let's have a little
- 39:05Speaker 1: journal and share our experiences. Especially if it's annymous. You
- 39:08Speaker 1: never actually meet the guy. He's just a hypothetical dude
- 39:10Speaker 1: who hung the stand. You know, they won't really know
- 39:15Speaker 1: until they both walk out there someday at three o'clock
- 39:19Speaker 1: and they both like there they are, Then they're gonna
- 39:22Speaker 1: have to start it out. I think actually was that
- 39:26Speaker 1: that's a good rom comment the making. We had a
- 39:29Speaker 1: guy right in one time that was having one of
- 39:32Speaker 1: these disputes of someone and one day there's like two
- 39:35Speaker 1: trees kind of together, and he's up in one and
- 39:38Speaker 1: the guy comes and I mean literally climbs up right
- 39:41Speaker 1: behind him, and they sat quite awkwardly, him looking out
- 39:46Speaker 1: one way and the guy looking out the other way. Yeah.
- 39:48Speaker 1: One of our camera guys in Illinois last year, same thing.
- 39:51Speaker 1: They sat like twenty yards from each other. Yeah, it's
- 39:54Speaker 1: like the second guy is just there to ruin the
- 39:56Speaker 1: experience for the first guy so that he doesn't come back.
- 39:58Speaker 1: It's kind of silly. Yeah, not my favorite. It kind
- 40:00Speaker 1: of ruins it for me, though, like too. Uh, And
- 40:03Speaker 1: I'm not a big like who who kind of experienced
- 40:06Speaker 1: guy too much. I just like to hunt here, but um,
- 40:09Speaker 1: it does. I don't like to sit in another person
- 40:11Speaker 1: stand in particular, like one time in a tree, a
- 40:14Speaker 1: person and used screens, So we're gonna take those out
- 40:16Speaker 1: and be hard to hang my own steps in the tree.
- 40:18Speaker 1: So I used the screens, but then hung my own
- 40:20Speaker 1: stand next to the stand that was in the tree,
- 40:23Speaker 1: partially because I don't like the position that I was
- 40:25Speaker 1: in better than the way he'd hung it. But I
- 40:28Speaker 1: just don't like sitting on it, and you don't. There's
- 40:30Speaker 1: like a safety factor too. You don't know if this
- 40:32Speaker 1: person is using you know, from you're pretty safe, Yeah,
- 40:35Speaker 1: usually his and safety is my number one concerned. Yeah,
- 40:40Speaker 1: it's kind of weird. We're gonna do one last thing.
- 40:43Speaker 1: We're gonna talk about one last thing before we talk
- 40:44Speaker 1: about what we're gonna talk about. Uh, this guy's thought
- 40:48Speaker 1: about you know, I don't know uh what I'm trying
- 40:51Speaker 1: to say. I thought about having him on the show
- 40:53Speaker 1: before because I read this book guy wrote in about
- 40:56Speaker 1: a bad experience he had with one of his works
- 41:00Speaker 1: on Amazon recently, Um, about what he's you know, I
- 41:07Speaker 1: don't know if it's is its censorship. I guess it's censorship.
- 41:09Speaker 1: Censorship let me at the end of the day. Yeah, yeah,
- 41:12Speaker 1: people confuse their's censorship like First Amendment censorship that would
- 41:18Speaker 1: come from the government, right, and then there's just private
- 41:21Speaker 1: companies doing what private companies want to do. So meaning
- 41:24Speaker 1: if someone wrote a big article about how all the
- 41:27Speaker 1: reasons that like hunting should be outlawed, and we said,
- 41:30Speaker 1: I'm I don't feel like publishing that article on our website.
- 41:33Speaker 1: That's not gonna it's I don't that's not gonna go
- 41:35Speaker 1: over well where they'd be like, you're censoring me. You'd
- 41:39Speaker 1: be like, no, it's just we have It's like we
- 41:41Speaker 1: own our own thing and we just do with our
- 41:43Speaker 1: own thing what we want. I'm not censoring you. It's
- 41:46Speaker 1: more like their standards for what is acceptable and allowable
- 41:50Speaker 1: are you know, questionable. We're talking about organization that sits
- 41:54Speaker 1: one rung below the government, which is Amazon. Given another
- 41:59Speaker 1: thirty years, I think they're coming. They're like they're sort
- 42:03Speaker 1: of you know, like how our military will have that
- 42:07Speaker 1: the red phone to the Chinese military, they probably have
- 42:11Speaker 1: like a red emergency phone. Talking between Amazon and the government.
- 42:17Speaker 1: So the guy goes on to write, in my newest book,
- 42:21Speaker 1: more than Wolverine, an Alaska wilderness trap line on the cover.
- 42:26Speaker 1: He's got a there's a picture of him holding the
- 42:29Speaker 1: wolverine trapped in the in the bush, no blood, no gore, animals,
- 42:36Speaker 1: harvest responsibly found, state regulations displayed in a respectful manner.
- 42:41Speaker 1: He had an ad campaign for an Amazon canceled My
- 42:44Speaker 1: ad campaign blows their message following my appeal kind of
- 42:49Speaker 1: blew me away. Anybody, just heads up when designing your
- 42:53Speaker 1: future book covers. M Hello from Amazon Advertiser Support. When
- 42:59Speaker 1: we were seeved your ad campaign more than Wolverine, we
- 43:02Speaker 1: determine that your cover contains images of excessive violence. The
- 43:08Speaker 1: image contains graphic depictions of cadavers m hm. And also
- 43:16Speaker 1: not just that, and also we determine that your ad
- 43:19Speaker 1: contained violent content. To ensure a good customer experience, we
- 43:23Speaker 1: don't allow ads containing images of human or animal abuse, mistreatment,
- 43:27Speaker 1: or distress. Because your ad uses the cover image on
- 43:32Speaker 1: your book, you'll need to update the cover of your
- 43:34Speaker 1: book in order to be eligible for Amazon advertising. A
- 43:38Speaker 1: quick note, I had something about this kind of burned
- 43:40Speaker 1: my ass here to day. One of our senators in
- 43:41Speaker 1: Montana has his profile picture. It's him and his wife,
- 43:45Speaker 1: Senator Danes. It's him his wife and an antelope. So
- 43:49Speaker 1: him and his wife with an antelope. And he got
- 43:52Speaker 1: booted off Twitter, which just struck me as weird because
- 43:55Speaker 1: the whole thing with Elon must Buy and Twitters, they're
- 43:57Speaker 1: supposed to quit screw with everybody about like stupid stuff. Anyways,
- 44:01Speaker 1: his thing got reinstated. I put the picture up on
- 44:04Speaker 1: it on Instagram, so I thought it was interesting that
- 44:07Speaker 1: that is excessive violence. Yeah, I read the musk. Reached
- 44:11Speaker 1: out to him personally to talk about it. Yeah, Kal
- 44:16Speaker 1: thought I was being stupid. It's like, what's the Elon
- 44:18Speaker 1: must have to do with this? I said, well, I
- 44:19Speaker 1: don't know if you've been following this with somebody. It's like,
- 44:24Speaker 1: I think your account got hacked. Dude, he bought Twitter.
- 44:29Speaker 1: The whole thing is he's gonna make Twitter not cracking
- 44:32Speaker 1: down on everybody all the time for like like totally
- 44:35Speaker 1: objective or sorry for totally subjective stuff. And then I
- 44:41Speaker 1: sent him a headline that says that he put it back,
- 44:43Speaker 1: made it back right again. I said, ha, that's what
- 44:45Speaker 1: I wrote, I put like multiple exclama. If you look
- 44:51Speaker 1: at three of them in there, things you'll get dinged
- 44:53Speaker 1: for as bad as Facebook is. If say they've got
- 44:57Speaker 1: a list of fifteen things Instagram, maybe like eight. You
- 45:03Speaker 1: get to Twitter and it's probably like a list of
- 45:05Speaker 1: twenty and fractions, you know, from alcohol to one down
- 45:10Speaker 1: the line, you know, for getting restricted on. Oh, but
- 45:15Speaker 1: I have a book I have so I have books
- 45:19Speaker 1: published with I feel like it's like, I don't Well,
- 45:22Speaker 1: you've got a book that in particular makes me think
- 45:24Speaker 1: of this guy's situation. Well, I have two books. I
- 45:26Speaker 1: have a book of holding a grailing. It's a vertebrate.
- 45:30Speaker 1: I'm holding it a grailing that's no longer alive. So
- 45:34Speaker 1: it's where I have a turkey, right, another vertebrate sentient
- 45:41Speaker 1: being no longer alive, published by the world's biggest book publisher,
- 45:46Speaker 1: Penguin Random House. Uh, but then they they messed with this, dude,
- 45:52Speaker 1: what's your what's your? Don't you have a thing about eyelashes?
- 45:55Speaker 1: You know? If the animal has I forgot about my
- 46:00Speaker 1: own rule? I wonder I wonder if us calling this
- 46:03Speaker 1: out on this podcast will have uh, you know, we'll
- 46:08Speaker 1: get some kind of Amazon message about those books being
- 46:11Speaker 1: up and maybe needing to be taken down, and then
- 46:13Speaker 1: Hunter will have to redesign a cover of you like
- 46:16Speaker 1: cuddling a turkey that's alive, like animal like thing. To
- 46:22Speaker 1: us bringing it up was gonna flag my books, not
- 46:24Speaker 1: fix this guy's situation. Maybe. Yeah, I guess I have
- 46:27Speaker 1: not too much hope When I sent Cal the article
- 46:30Speaker 1: that that um after a little bit of public pressure,
- 46:35Speaker 1: Senator Gaines's Twitter account got put back up with his
- 46:38Speaker 1: grip and grind of his antelope, and Cal said, did
- 46:41Speaker 1: they credit you when they they they had pointed out
- 46:45Speaker 1: they had pointed out ted Ted Cruz. That's like stolen
- 46:48Speaker 1: valor on Ted Cruizes to have because it was me
- 46:51Speaker 1: mans stolen valid. What was the nature that was that?
- 46:55Speaker 1: A profile picture change that triggered it or put up
- 46:58Speaker 1: a new profile picture of him? Is why for then
- 47:00Speaker 1: antelope not a speck of blood to be seen? You
- 47:03Speaker 1: could almost thought the animope was still alive if you
- 47:06Speaker 1: don't know what you're looking at. Yeah, So what you
- 47:12Speaker 1: what you take Hunter as a designer, Well, we could
- 47:17Speaker 1: do a whole podcast on this, but I mean the
- 47:20Speaker 1: situations that we've run into and it's kind of even
- 47:25Speaker 1: hard to quantify because it doesn't make sense. But so
- 47:27Speaker 1: for example, if I had a shot of you in
- 47:31Speaker 1: the field with a meat crafter and we used it
- 47:34Speaker 1: in an ad versus a shot of a meat crafter
- 47:37Speaker 1: on a cutting board, one's getting dinged. One isn't the
- 47:41Speaker 1: same exact thing promoting the same exact thing. But contextually,
- 47:45Speaker 1: I've taken out out of one situation into another because
- 47:47Speaker 1: it looks like I'm fixing the knife someone yea or
- 47:51Speaker 1: or or you're you're using it in a in a
- 47:55Speaker 1: violent way, you know, be it, you know, skinning. So
- 47:59Speaker 1: you're saying like, if you have a picture of a
- 48:01Speaker 1: piece of raw meat, right, or let's say a deer's
- 48:04Speaker 1: leg and you're making an opening cut a dude being
- 48:07Speaker 1: in there, it's bad. But if it's a knife in
- 48:10Speaker 1: an opening cut in a culinary sense, you're fine. Um.
- 48:17Speaker 1: I was talking to Ben Rummery about this and a
- 48:21Speaker 1: couple other situations like f HF has a lot of
- 48:24Speaker 1: trouble because older always in trouble because it's all things
- 48:28Speaker 1: that are accessories to modify a weapon. So you're promoting
- 48:33Speaker 1: the use or sale of a weapon. UM I mean
- 48:38Speaker 1: like if you have a little bullet holster, yeah, or
- 48:41Speaker 1: a little cartridge holder. The worst one is the bear
- 48:44Speaker 1: spray holster. No, whether you show it in the field
- 48:48Speaker 1: or you just show because it's harming the bear as
- 48:51Speaker 1: opposed to saving potentially saving your own life. Pepper spray. Oh,
- 48:55Speaker 1: pepper spray. Yeah. What So that's like one of the
- 49:00Speaker 1: ones at the top that nobody even bothers doing because
- 49:03Speaker 1: they're thinking of pepper spray being used in like a
- 49:05Speaker 1: militious sort of environment rather than like for protections. I
- 49:08Speaker 1: would assume yeah, yeah, Um. Now here's one that's puzzling.
- 49:12Speaker 1: Um that we were talking about this morning was obsidian
- 49:16Speaker 1: pants for the longest time would get dinged. And what
- 49:20Speaker 1: ends up happening is so when they go just a
- 49:23Speaker 1: plane picture someone, Yeah you don't have to show. Yeah,
- 49:30Speaker 1: the ad could just be of the pant. But I
- 49:33Speaker 1: think what I guess it happened over time is when
- 49:36Speaker 1: they go to scan that ad, they're also checking the
- 49:38Speaker 1: landing page to where that ad is taking you to.
- 49:42Speaker 1: So if that it was you know, the city, and
- 49:43Speaker 1: pant takes you to a page where that you in
- 49:46Speaker 1: a hunting situation, then that gives them cause to paying
- 49:51Speaker 1: that ad. So it's it's not just visually what that
- 49:55Speaker 1: ad looks like, but it's a lot of times you know,
- 49:59Speaker 1: the loophole where it's taking you too. Yeah, because the
- 50:03Speaker 1: way that they justify those is you don't want to
- 50:06Speaker 1: be scrolling through necessarily and see something that is offensive
- 50:09Speaker 1: you don't like, right, But if they're also looking at
- 50:11Speaker 1: the landing page, that says it's about the product itself,
- 50:15Speaker 1: not just your user experience. Correct, correct, Like we've never
- 50:19Speaker 1: we don't seem to have issues promoting Vortex in a
- 50:22Speaker 1: sense when you're not necessarily showing it on a weapon. However,
- 50:27Speaker 1: sig no go. And I don't know if that's tied
- 50:31Speaker 1: to because of it being uh, you know, they're thinking
- 50:36Speaker 1: in terms of you know, the I mean rifle and
- 50:39Speaker 1: stuff like that, pistols, right, So I don't know if
- 50:43Speaker 1: Vortex gets Vortex makes optics and optics right, and that
- 50:46Speaker 1: could be for you know, golf, birding, whatever. There's got
- 50:50Speaker 1: to be some kind of workaround. Is there like a
- 50:51Speaker 1: universal symbol or visual of a thing that is like
- 50:54Speaker 1: so neutral or like, I don't know, a box of
- 50:57Speaker 1: lucky charms and we just put that in the background
- 51:00Speaker 1: of every picture that we put up. Yeah, until they
- 51:04Speaker 1: find out, until General Mills comes out to you. Yea. Um,
- 51:08Speaker 1: but yeah, it's it's Traine. I mean you just eventually
- 51:10Speaker 1: kind of learned, you know. Ah, I mean it's it's
- 51:15Speaker 1: it makes it a little tough in certain situations, Like
- 51:17Speaker 1: I said, with like rifle slings and things like that.
- 51:19Speaker 1: I mean, how do you how do you promote or
- 51:24Speaker 1: use that? Um? Uh? Yeah. The meat crafter was definitely,
- 51:29Speaker 1: uh a unique and tough one. So a lot of
- 51:31Speaker 1: times I'll just take my own meat crafter and photograph it.
- 51:36Speaker 1: You know. She'd called the tofu crafter promoted for you absolutely. See, man,
- 51:44Speaker 1: you know what the problem is, Like, I got like
- 51:46Speaker 1: two things that are happening at the same time. I'm
- 51:49Speaker 1: getting older and Ship's getting more ridiculous. And when you're older,
- 51:57Speaker 1: you get less tolerant or ridiculous stuff. And I feel
- 51:59Speaker 1: like at trajectory if you're just on an exponential Yeah,
- 52:06Speaker 1: it's a war on Christmas. It's like that's like you
- 52:09Speaker 1: know what I mean, I'm there. I'll probably say it
- 52:12Speaker 1: not as a joke next year, you know what I mean?
- 52:16Speaker 1: Like the besieged feeling, Yeah, but it's like that plays
- 52:20Speaker 1: in are gonna be on a balcony like Steller and
- 52:23Speaker 1: waldor from the mupp That's just me a brody. But
- 52:27Speaker 1: I started to think called besiege the old Men. But
- 52:32Speaker 1: that's a good point about the grailing, because it does
- 52:33Speaker 1: make me wonder, like visually, you know, I don't recall
- 52:37Speaker 1: any dangs with anything spear fishing related, you know any Yeah,
- 52:42Speaker 1: no eyelashes. What if you shave the eyelashes off your deer?
- 52:48Speaker 1: Now you're gonna do it? Yeah, here's a trip watch
- 52:53Speaker 1: this transition. Do you guys ever get in trouble at
- 52:56Speaker 1: the element for stuff you put on the Internet? Yeah,
- 52:59Speaker 1: I mean mean by trouble like just flash demonetized. I
- 53:04Speaker 1: dealt with Google for weeks one time, and of course
- 53:09Speaker 1: the people I'm in touch with are foreign and the
- 53:14Speaker 1: I mean, I couldn't figure out why our ads weren't running,
- 53:17Speaker 1: and essentially just came to my own conclusions that it
- 53:21Speaker 1: was being censored. There was no I was never told
- 53:23Speaker 1: that it's you know what I mean, like algorithm in
- 53:25Speaker 1: the AI. It's just and the people on the other
- 53:27Speaker 1: end of the line could never tell me that either,
- 53:29Speaker 1: for they don't they don't know exactly right, Yeah, so
- 53:33Speaker 1: I just came to a conclusion that way we would
- 53:35Speaker 1: stop running ads pretty much. There's other individual times to
- 53:38Speaker 1: where a certain video of the demonetized and a personal
- 53:41Speaker 1: appeal would change that. So that get flagged by AI
- 53:45Speaker 1: for having something. And then if you send in the
- 53:49Speaker 1: you know, we eat all the meat. You know, you
- 53:51Speaker 1: you you give a personal appeal to justification of what
- 53:54Speaker 1: you're doing it it would work. You know a lot
- 53:57Speaker 1: of times what you guys used to do pred your
- 54:00Speaker 1: control work. As me tell about that, Clay, Clay told
- 54:04Speaker 1: me to ask you about it, all right, thanks Clay.
- 54:08Speaker 1: I worked for the government, which is just a red flag, right,
- 54:12Speaker 1: but I like state or apist our for a fist. Yeah,
- 54:16Speaker 1: well so we're try funding so um, A portion of
- 54:20Speaker 1: the funding for me as a state trapper came from
- 54:23Speaker 1: APHIS support, portion came from the state which was Wildlife Services,
- 54:26Speaker 1: and a portion incomes from the county that I worked within.
- 54:29Speaker 1: Do we just clarify what APHIS stands for and we'll
- 54:32Speaker 1: plant Health Inspection Service. Yeah, we've had some We've had
- 54:35Speaker 1: some APIs big wigs on the show. Yeah. If this
- 54:37Speaker 1: has got some cool people over there, man, yeah, and
- 54:40Speaker 1: it was like, the thing we brought up is that
- 54:42Speaker 1: they don't they don't get credit for they don't get
- 54:45Speaker 1: credit for a lot of good work they do. People
- 54:47Speaker 1: just take some stuff they do and make it seem
- 54:49Speaker 1: like as controversial as possible. But then they eliminate invasive
- 54:53Speaker 1: neutrius from Chesapeake Bay and yeah, exactly, it's how weird.
- 55:00Speaker 1: But so I was pretty much a glorified county trapper,
- 55:04Speaker 1: you know what it is is used to these uh
- 55:07Speaker 1: counties would just fun to trapper, just old guy you
- 55:10Speaker 1: know around there, just trapped. And in the South, trapp
- 55:12Speaker 1: is different because we don't have a fur market too much,
- 55:15Speaker 1: you know, coons, maybe raccoons whatever, um, and so uh,
- 55:19Speaker 1: coyotes don't really have pelts that are worth anything. Um.
- 55:22Speaker 1: So it's strictly for livestock protection pretty much. And then
- 55:25Speaker 1: you throw the hogs in. In the last thirty years
- 55:27Speaker 1: that have become more of an issue. Um. That's I
- 55:31Speaker 1: spent probably eighty percent of my time on hogs and coyotes.
- 55:33Speaker 1: And then uh, the other rest of that would be
- 55:35Speaker 1: like disease monitoring for avian flu or neutria or uh,
- 55:39Speaker 1: you know, some ladies losing their cats in South Houston.
- 55:42Speaker 1: You can go figure out what's going on there. There
- 55:44Speaker 1: was disease monitoring with the hogs. To your Yeah, there was.
- 55:46Speaker 1: That was kind of cool that. That was one of
- 55:48Speaker 1: my favorite parts. Where so we used to do aerial
- 55:49Speaker 1: operations with hogs, with the helicopter stuff. But um, with
- 55:52Speaker 1: like you know, a purpose, I guess. And who are
- 55:55Speaker 1: you working for doing hogs? Uh? Freface? So you were
- 55:58Speaker 1: shooting hogs from helicopter? Uh so I was not a
- 56:02Speaker 1: gunner in that scenario. Now that what were you doing
- 56:06Speaker 1: from a helicopter? Um, that's a different um job I had. Actually,
- 56:10Speaker 1: so I was a state trapper and then previously and
- 56:14Speaker 1: this is actually one of the things I put on
- 56:15Speaker 1: my on my resume to kind of help me get
- 56:17Speaker 1: that job as I was a I don't know what
- 56:20Speaker 1: you call it. It's a pretty much Yeah, I'm a
- 56:23Speaker 1: guy told me things to ask you about. They're gonna
- 56:26Speaker 1: bleed together in a minute. Yeah. Good. So. Um, I
- 56:29Speaker 1: was a game capture specialist, I guess. So, you know,
- 56:32Speaker 1: the exotic industry is a big thing in Texas. So
- 56:35Speaker 1: we got exotics, especially in the western half of the state.
- 56:39Speaker 1: There's exotics trying out a lot of portions state and
- 56:41Speaker 1: so there they are treated like talking dancers. Right, yeah,
- 56:45Speaker 1: I guess I don't know what is that? What do
- 56:48Speaker 1: you mean you don't tell me? Oh no, okay, okay,
- 56:58Speaker 1: so azotic specialists. Uh so, yeah, I'll clarify. Um, exotic
- 57:03Speaker 1: game animals and not a game animals too. Um caught
- 57:07Speaker 1: some weird things, but um, there's a big industry for those.
- 57:09Speaker 1: They're treated as livestock in Texas according to the Texas
- 57:12Speaker 1: um AD Commissioner or whatever, so you can freely transport
- 57:16Speaker 1: them around the state and out of state too, out
- 57:18Speaker 1: of country even um so, um, we pretty much would
- 57:22Speaker 1: go out and we're glorified cattle wranglers except for rounding
- 57:26Speaker 1: up you know, game animals mostly odd ad access in
- 57:29Speaker 1: black Buck, but a lot of other stuff too, for
- 57:31Speaker 1: people that wanted them out of certain areas or the
- 57:33Speaker 1: wanted them into certain areas all that. Yeah. Um so,
- 57:37Speaker 1: Usually the common scenario was a landowner has a plethora
- 57:43Speaker 1: of exotic game on their property, usually low fence. Uh.
- 57:48Speaker 1: Our company would pay them per head of different game
- 57:52Speaker 1: animals we caught, and then we were kind of a
- 57:56Speaker 1: peddler of those animals. We would then find a high
- 57:59Speaker 1: fenced operation that wouldn't want those animals and then sell
- 58:02Speaker 1: them to them and release them there. So the motivation
- 58:05Speaker 1: on the motivation on the part of the landowner that
- 58:10Speaker 1: has them might be a they want a bunch of
- 58:15Speaker 1: them gone, be they just want to make some money
- 58:17Speaker 1: off the resource, or see both. Usually it was a
- 58:23Speaker 1: lot more of b yeah, a little bit a little
- 58:26Speaker 1: bit of sea mixed in there, but um guy's wheeling
- 58:29Speaker 1: and dealing. Yeah. Man, money is what drives everything, you know,
- 58:32Speaker 1: especially in Texas huge economy. U's Texas is the ninth
- 58:34Speaker 1: or tenth largest economy in the world if you even
- 58:37Speaker 1: look at national scales, So like the state of Texas
- 58:42Speaker 1: is like a national player when it comes to world economy.
- 58:45Speaker 1: So that translates to a lot of money in the state,
- 58:47Speaker 1: but also a very economically minded, like average citizen. So
- 58:51Speaker 1: those people are like, yeah, sure, I'll let you fly
- 58:54Speaker 1: helicopter in my place and catch sixty animals for three
- 58:56Speaker 1: dollars ahead, you know, and then but there's a pretty
- 58:59Speaker 1: hey be turnover there, or like the margins are good,
- 59:03Speaker 1: you know, especially for bigger animals, so you guys would
- 59:06Speaker 1: come in and contract on it. Yeah, we'd uh, and
- 59:09Speaker 1: so are you usually? Are you usually employed by the um.
- 59:14Speaker 1: You don't have to get specifics with your industry but
- 59:16Speaker 1: with your particular outfit. But the way, I just curious
- 59:19Speaker 1: how the industry works. So like you, what do you?
- 59:23Speaker 1: What do you are? You guys gett a percentage of
- 59:24Speaker 1: sale a per animal thing. You're hired by the guy
- 59:27Speaker 1: that wants them. You're hired by the guy that wants
- 59:29Speaker 1: to get rid of him. So I got a daily rate.
- 59:31Speaker 1: I was, you know, just a hand pretty um. And
- 59:35Speaker 1: so my old boss in this, uh, he ran a
- 59:39Speaker 1: business that offered these services, and then usually the helicopter
- 59:43Speaker 1: service was a different service that we would combine with.
- 59:46Speaker 1: So the pilot kind of had his own bird and
- 59:48Speaker 1: then we would team up with him. There would be
- 59:51Speaker 1: a net gunner, a pilot, and then a ground crew.
- 59:54Speaker 1: And I ran ground crew a lot until we went
- 59:56Speaker 1: out west and did all that stuff. And so, h um,
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: there's pretty much like it is a contracted service to
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: a landowner. And then I'm paid a daily rate. Yea. Yeah,
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: So you swoop down. Let's say you're what was the
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: most common an Emily dealt with, I'd say access to here, Yeah,
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: they come in on a helicopter, come down, pah, landing, Uh,
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: throwing net on it, shooting net onto It is that
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: hard to get a hit right, Uh depends on the guy.
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: It's hard to get good at but when you're good
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: at it. Man, my buddy Chobvy he was. He was
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: good good net gunners skill. Yes, yeah, very much obtained it.
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: It's kind of cool. They ran a single shot blank
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: three O eight pistol and they have like a fabricated
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: netgun cage that goes in the front of it. You
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: have these four little weights that you know, one at
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: each corner of the of the net and pound and
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: then that thing just lies out there and the moving
- 1:00:46Speaker 1: shot yea. And the other cool thing is the the
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: talent of the pilot. Man. Some of those pilots are
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: just insane because they're running at our twenty two, which
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: is really uh, what's the route where the very maneuverable helicopter. Um,
- 1:00:59Speaker 1: it's a two s eat, very light weight and man,
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: they could just do some insane stuff. And what they're
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: doing is they're like not only getting the guy on
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: the animal, but they're positioning the animal to where the
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: guy has a good shot and they're kind of directing
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: animal to a certain direction, all while avoiding live oak
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: trees and mesquites, and they're flying below deck man like
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: they are like in the stuff, you know, they're not like.
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: You can't shoot a netgun from a hundred foot up.
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: You gotta be probably and somebody probably knows better than me,
- 1:01:25Speaker 1: But just in my experience, looking like forty ft or less,
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: it's kind of where you want to be. It seemed
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: like the shoot a little higher, but it's harder the
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: higher you get because you're losing velocity and the animal
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: can move more. Stuff like that, and when that that
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: net gets them that their legs get tangled up whatever.
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: Usually yeah, and antlered or horn critters are way easier
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: because you got another thing to get. Yeah, and then
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: the ground coop runs in and you tranquilize it or
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: you don't even bother to it. That's a different thing.
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: It's the thing we do. But um, the anytime there's
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: neck gun, you just stir hog time them pretty much
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: three around three legs, leaving one leg done. You know,
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: a little half it's there. Usually leave the net on
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: them unless it's easy to get off, and then you
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: just put them in the back of like a UTV
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: or something like that and take them back to a trailer.
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: Do you blindfold them? Sometimes? Uh, different animals stress worse
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: than others. Um, black buck, we're kind of bad about
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: being stressed. Access are pretty tough addad never blindfolded alldad there,
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: they're just toughest goats, you know. So it just goes
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: on whether or not that thing is gonna get so
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: freaked out of die yea. Yeah, the African game really
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: except for all that which are African game, but planes game,
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: I'll say it that way. Planes game is really finicky,
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: which black bucking access are not high stream there. Yeah. Yeah,
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: they're high strung so like um, and they're expensive too.
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: So one time we lost a will the Beast, which
- 1:02:41Speaker 1: was a pretty expensive loss, you know, and it was
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: stressed and it was even tranquilised it's still and it's
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: still stressed. So that's an expensive animal, fairly expensive. They're
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: super exotics um and wilderbeast is kind of like boring
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: on that because it's a little rarer in the scheme
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: of exotics. But like you look at like a games
- 1:02:59Speaker 1: buck or a z or or a giraffe or a
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: cudo or addicts, like you're kind of in that super
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: exotics type range there. Yeah, yeah, and then those we
- 1:03:07Speaker 1: would usually tranquilize because tranquilization is a little safer and
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: easier on the animal. But with the African game, tranquilization
- 1:03:14Speaker 1: is a little finnick. You're more finicky because you had
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: to be really precise with your dosage, which I wasn't
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: licensed to do that, so I was, you know, just
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: observing this stuff, but I would see it. Uh you know,
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: it could go bad pretty easy. And some of those
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: things are worth like the animals worth like eight nine
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: thousand bucks, right, yeah, yeah, yeah, Like you take like
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: a sable um, that's a I mean back then that
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: was like a twenty animal and that's this ten years ago,
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: So he's worth that alive. Yes, not just to a hunter.
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: You have to a hunter. You're talking a big turnover there,
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: especially a big one. I know, the ar thing Clay
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: told me to ask you about. Tell me about it.
- 1:03:48Speaker 1: You got your pant leg hung up on a Yeah,
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: I got your pant leg hung up on a one time.
- 1:03:54Speaker 1: I did, Man, do you story on this? Let me
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: grab a drink of water here, because this is a
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: white whistle for this one, Ladies jump whistle. That's right. Um,
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: So this is kind of cool because it's like one
- 1:04:08Speaker 1: of the first few times I felt like we had
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: a greater objective than just economic stuff. So we were
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: working in West Texas, um, and the big horn restoration
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: stuff is a big deal in West Texas, and there's
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: a ton of addad that inhabit native big horn range.
- 1:04:24Speaker 1: Uh So what we were doing was a captured in
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: eradication of addad so they could come in and restock
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: native big horns. Those two things conflict, I'm sure for
- 1:04:33Speaker 1: resources and probably for what's the ovis flu or whatever
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: it is that there's some sickness right, the pneumonia. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:04:42Speaker 1: so I'm sure they conflicted this from uh moves from
- 1:04:46Speaker 1: domestic sheep species into big horns, and that as much
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: as as much as market hunting like that decimated big horns. Yeah,
- 1:04:54Speaker 1: I could see that being the case because there odd
- 1:04:56Speaker 1: ad are roamers where I've never hunted big horn had
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: spent much time with the before to understand they don't
- 1:05:02Speaker 1: move as much, right, I mean, is that a thing
- 1:05:04Speaker 1: like they kind of have their spot. They're not as
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: uh transient as an odd ad you would say, I
- 1:05:11Speaker 1: wouldn't ask me. Yeah, I don't know too much, but
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: it's what it seemed at least like on that subject.
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: Well at not those all Dad would hit the valley
- 1:05:21Speaker 1: floor and men they take off there, you know. So
- 1:05:24Speaker 1: the way that sets up is there's these u um
- 1:05:27Speaker 1: plateaus out there in West Texas. They're kind of like mountains,
- 1:05:31Speaker 1: but they're flat on top. Everybody knows the platois and there,
- 1:05:33Speaker 1: you know, thousand acre or something like that, and you'll
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: have these groups of animals that live on those and
- 1:05:38Speaker 1: there's valley floor that's completely different ecologically than what that
- 1:05:41Speaker 1: mountain is up there. And those mountains are cool to
- 1:05:44Speaker 1: be have. Alina's elk all kinds of stuff out there,
- 1:05:46Speaker 1: really really neat country. Um, I love it out there. Um.
- 1:05:49Speaker 1: Also we uh this is a side note, but um
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: sleeping on the ground out there. One out we heard
- 1:05:54Speaker 1: a uh jet fly below the level of the mountain
- 1:05:59Speaker 1: while we were out there. So there's some sketchy cartel
- 1:06:02Speaker 1: stuff kind of going on out there. For sure. What
- 1:06:04Speaker 1: are those mountains top off that? Like? You know, I
- 1:06:06Speaker 1: don't remember elevation wise, but I would imagine I imagine
- 1:06:12Speaker 1: those are in the four range something like that. But
- 1:06:14Speaker 1: it's like I remember being th feet of change from
- 1:06:17Speaker 1: the valley floor to the top of the mountain and you,
- 1:06:19Speaker 1: I mean, you gain twenty or lose twenty degrees in temperature.
- 1:06:23Speaker 1: You'd be in short sleeves at the bottom, and by
- 1:06:25Speaker 1: the time you get out of the truck at the top,
- 1:06:26Speaker 1: you're putting a jacket on. Just you know, in the
- 1:06:28Speaker 1: summer in Texas, it's cool. So we're out there doing
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: this all day work and we're contracted to take like
- 1:06:34Speaker 1: twenty five rams years and then we're gonna eradicate the
- 1:06:38Speaker 1: rest um and we are flying a our forty four
- 1:06:44Speaker 1: helicopter which is a four seater um because of the
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: rugged terrain. So normally you'd have a t V s
- 1:06:51Speaker 1: ut vs running around on the ground running ground crew,
- 1:06:53Speaker 1: but out there you can't really do that. You have to,
- 1:06:56Speaker 1: uh have another guy in the helicopter as a jumper,
- 1:06:59Speaker 1: which is usually of dumbest guy. And I was a
- 1:07:01Speaker 1: jumper so uh young, you know, and could do it.
- 1:07:05Speaker 1: I did the whole thing and still to boots Man
- 1:07:07Speaker 1: ab Peples like to say people that rodeo, Yeah, it's
- 1:07:10Speaker 1: it's a drilling rush. For sure, guy's gonna ride a
- 1:07:13Speaker 1: bulls like hell, I'll talk about and grab that thing.
- 1:07:15Speaker 1: Yeah exactly, And then you don't sleep that night because
- 1:07:17Speaker 1: you go out and you know, chase wild women and stuff,
- 1:07:19Speaker 1: you know, former life, you know, just being a wild
- 1:07:21Speaker 1: young man and so um. We were on the top
- 1:07:26Speaker 1: of a mountain there. I'll keep these names kind of vague,
- 1:07:29Speaker 1: but we're on top of a mountain that you could
- 1:07:30Speaker 1: not access by vehicle. It's a plateau um and it's
- 1:07:35Speaker 1: about like a fifteen degree grade. It's a really heavy
- 1:07:38Speaker 1: grade up top, and every rock has is about a
- 1:07:42Speaker 1: basketball size, and it has let your gia growing up
- 1:07:44Speaker 1: in between the cracks between let you Gia is a
- 1:07:47Speaker 1: Southwestern plant. You've probably seen it. It looks like alo,
- 1:07:51Speaker 1: but it's not um um what's it doesn't have the
- 1:07:54Speaker 1: juice inside of it? You know, it's pretty. Is it
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: one of the ones that when you get in your
- 1:07:57Speaker 1: ship it feels like you got hit by a hornet? Are? Yeah,
- 1:08:00Speaker 1: for sure, not for long. A surprisingly short lived pain, yea.
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: And those that have to eat that stuff, that's what
- 1:08:05Speaker 1: they're living on. That's what their tongue must feel like.
- 1:08:07Speaker 1: I bet it's rough. Constant pain, tough creators. Man. There
- 1:08:14Speaker 1: they are something else. So, um, whenever you knit an
- 1:08:18Speaker 1: animal out there, the jumper has to get out and
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: deal with that stuff. And back then it's more than
- 1:08:23Speaker 1: happy to do it. Yeah yeah, and just you know,
- 1:08:26Speaker 1: do it again next day. Whatever it comes out a
- 1:08:29Speaker 1: kind of a brown tip. Is that the one of
- 1:08:30Speaker 1: your tom Yeah? And it's you know, eighteen inches tall,
- 1:08:33Speaker 1: maybe a little taller. We call it what Yankees call those.
- 1:08:35Speaker 1: We call them. Um, if you're trying to describe where
- 1:08:38Speaker 1: something as you go, you know that, y'all a looking thing.
- 1:08:42Speaker 1: There's a lot of there's cool plants out there, and
- 1:08:44Speaker 1: I got we have a Yankee camera guy. Let me explain.
- 1:08:48Speaker 1: He now lives in Texas and he's great. But he's like, yeah,
- 1:08:52Speaker 1: he's from north of the Red River, so he's a
- 1:08:54Speaker 1: Yankee for he's from Illinois. Um and he um. He
- 1:08:59Speaker 1: likes the names of stuff in Texas, so he's trying to,
- 1:09:02Speaker 1: you know, learn this stuff. So there's Akato, there's let Guia,
- 1:09:06Speaker 1: there's we sash Guahillo, there's what else. There's all kinds
- 1:09:10Speaker 1: of stuff out there. And we were out hunting out
- 1:09:13Speaker 1: there the other day and He's like, look at acaptio
- 1:09:14Speaker 1: over there. So I kind of just made up words,
- 1:09:16Speaker 1: you know, just whatever stuff is, you know, just trying
- 1:09:19Speaker 1: to be like, oh that's what that like a good cheese. Yeah. So, um, anyways,
- 1:09:27Speaker 1: we need a you, which is a less valuable animal. Right,
- 1:09:32Speaker 1: So like rams by the inch are worth more money. Uh,
- 1:09:36Speaker 1: a thirty inch ram is considered a big trophy. Anything
- 1:09:39Speaker 1: over twenty inches is worth a good bit. Anything under
- 1:09:41Speaker 1: that it's like a banana ram or whatever. And so
- 1:09:44Speaker 1: the use or at that time, we're three dollars or so,
- 1:09:48Speaker 1: so already I'm like, okay, well whatever, still like pretty good? Yeah,
- 1:09:53Speaker 1: well a v fuel and a crew and all that stuff,
- 1:09:56Speaker 1: you know, like you get a helicopter involved. Yeah, but
- 1:09:59Speaker 1: I don't really care because it's not money out of
- 1:10:01Speaker 1: my pocket. But still, you know, it's also cool just
- 1:10:03Speaker 1: put your hands on a big ram. So you know,
- 1:10:05Speaker 1: I'm thinking about that stuff too. Um and um, the
- 1:10:10Speaker 1: net is less than ideal. We want to say the net,
- 1:10:13Speaker 1: I mean like the job of the net gunning, and
- 1:10:15Speaker 1: my buddy does a great job on that. I'm not
- 1:10:17Speaker 1: saying that, but it happens, right, just like bad shots
- 1:10:19Speaker 1: and archery, it happens. Um. So she has a front
- 1:10:23Speaker 1: leg and one horn caught in the net, which means
- 1:10:26Speaker 1: she is still really mobile, almost more mobile than a
- 1:10:28Speaker 1: twenty two year old casey, you know what I mean. Like, Uh,
- 1:10:32Speaker 1: she's getting it and this is her country, right, I'm invading.
- 1:10:35Speaker 1: I can't walk around on that stuff. Very good. So, um,
- 1:10:39Speaker 1: I finally catch up with it. You know, I jump
- 1:10:40Speaker 1: out of a helicopter. Uh that's like not a big jump,
- 1:10:43Speaker 1: but like you know, five six ft or whatever. They
- 1:10:45Speaker 1: don't land because they can't land up there and that stuff,
- 1:10:47Speaker 1: and uh, A chase her. She's rolling down the hill,
- 1:10:51Speaker 1: you know, fighting, and I can already tell it's gonna
- 1:10:53Speaker 1: be a bad one. There's good ones, bad ones, and
- 1:10:55Speaker 1: there's in the middle, right and this she has an
- 1:10:59Speaker 1: attitude and it's a bad situation. Okay, So oh man,
- 1:11:02Speaker 1: here we go. I finally chase this thing down the
- 1:11:06Speaker 1: hill too, almost the edge of the plateau foot down
- 1:11:11Speaker 1: cliff pretty much straight down from here, um, and we're
- 1:11:14Speaker 1: about twenty ft from the edge for when I finally
- 1:11:16Speaker 1: catch her in huge side relief, right, I finally because
- 1:11:22Speaker 1: she's not that valuable, still an animal that I don't
- 1:11:24Speaker 1: want to die for no reason and fall off the
- 1:11:26Speaker 1: side of the mountain, and then I have to account
- 1:11:28Speaker 1: for what I didn't get her, you know, so you
- 1:11:30Speaker 1: don't want to be that guy. Um So a lot
- 1:11:32Speaker 1: of things playing in here. I get caught up to
- 1:11:34Speaker 1: her and she's hore. So I finally get her tied
- 1:11:38Speaker 1: up because she's not much in the net, so I
- 1:11:40Speaker 1: have to really wrestle her to get the three legs
- 1:11:42Speaker 1: tied up. And uh, the helicopter has a big sling
- 1:11:45Speaker 1: rope off the bottom. Um, So you know, imagine a
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: really thick nylon rope with the Caribbean near at the
- 1:11:50Speaker 1: end of it. You run that through the legs of
- 1:11:52Speaker 1: the odd ad back up to the rope, hooking in,
- 1:11:55Speaker 1: and they sling her out to a trailer that's like
- 1:11:57Speaker 1: two or three miles away. You could hang up by
- 1:12:01Speaker 1: the legs with that. Um you know hogtown there. Yeah,
- 1:12:05Speaker 1: for sure, that's kind of like the way it's done.
- 1:12:08Speaker 1: I word of thought. You had to cradle it somehow. Well,
- 1:12:09Speaker 1: a lot of times, you know, there is the like
- 1:12:14Speaker 1: super ethical way to do things, and then there's the
- 1:12:17Speaker 1: utilitarian way that companies do stuff. If you see the
- 1:12:21Speaker 1: state doing stuff, you would did some stuff with the
- 1:12:23Speaker 1: Mule Deer R Mule Deer Foundation. They they did the
- 1:12:26Speaker 1: cradle the whole It's like a harness signals around the
- 1:12:29Speaker 1: whole body and ideally you have the net in there
- 1:12:32Speaker 1: too that is functioning as that, but she didn't and
- 1:12:35Speaker 1: there's no way to get the net more around her.
- 1:12:37Speaker 1: But yeah, she she's perfectly fine doing that. Um for sure,
- 1:12:43Speaker 1: like a survival on this stuff is like in the
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: high nineties. I bet this is I'm just pulling numbers out,
- 1:12:49Speaker 1: but I mean we hardly ever lost audad distress um
- 1:12:52Speaker 1: so or injury, like you know, she wouldn't be limping
- 1:12:55Speaker 1: or anything on that um and so um, I get
- 1:12:59Speaker 1: to slip rope run through her, I give the guys
- 1:13:02Speaker 1: the signal like we're good and um this on Reu
- 1:13:07Speaker 1: gets one last horai at me and flings her head around.
- 1:13:11Speaker 1: It's like she knew I was there, you know. And
- 1:13:14Speaker 1: her us have horns, but they're not that long, mature
- 1:13:19Speaker 1: used like ten twelve inches probably something like that, maybe
- 1:13:22Speaker 1: a little longer depending on the goat. Um and uh,
- 1:13:27Speaker 1: they know how to use them because they're always there.
- 1:13:29Speaker 1: They're not like a white tailer drops them, you know,
- 1:13:30Speaker 1: like those horns are always there. They know exactly what
- 1:13:32Speaker 1: they're doing with them. She flings her head around, catches
- 1:13:35Speaker 1: the cuff of my right leg on my blue jeans,
- 1:13:39Speaker 1: and the helicopters going up and all. You know, this
- 1:13:43Speaker 1: happens fast, right. I process things pretty quickly too, so
- 1:13:46Speaker 1: this is all kind of going slow in my head.
- 1:13:48Speaker 1: But before I know it, I'm being lifted off of
- 1:13:51Speaker 1: the top of a mountain in West Texas, six hours
- 1:13:56Speaker 1: plus from a hospital. Um, which I wouldn't even if this,
- 1:14:01Speaker 1: you know, went bad. Yeah, exactly, They're gonna have to
- 1:14:05Speaker 1: have shovels. But I'm being lifted up by my leg
- 1:14:10Speaker 1: by an ad dad who has slung to a helicopter.
- 1:14:13Speaker 1: And these guys have no clue that this is happening
- 1:14:15Speaker 1: because I'm straight below the birds. Yeah. I gave him
- 1:14:18Speaker 1: the go ahead. We're good. And I didn't have anywhere
- 1:14:20Speaker 1: really to go because the edge was right there and
- 1:14:23Speaker 1: pretty unsafe anyways, you know, so like never ran through
- 1:14:26Speaker 1: my mind, Hey, get away from the animal um, and
- 1:14:29Speaker 1: I'm getting lifted up, and all of a sudden, I'm
- 1:14:31Speaker 1: off the ground. And remember I was twenty feet or
- 1:14:34Speaker 1: so from the edge of this mountain, and I can
- 1:14:37Speaker 1: remember having my hands straight out like this, thinking I'm
- 1:14:41Speaker 1: hanging upside down. I'm looking down at my hands and
- 1:14:46Speaker 1: I'm seeing the ground go further away, and I'm seeing
- 1:14:49Speaker 1: this really close. No, man, And I had the pants
- 1:14:53Speaker 1: for a long time still because I wanted to save them,
- 1:14:55Speaker 1: because they about six or eight feet off the ground.
- 1:15:00Speaker 1: I heard that little rip and I fell down to
- 1:15:02Speaker 1: the where I fell, I could spit over the side
- 1:15:07Speaker 1: of the cliff foot down. Yeah, right then and there, man,
- 1:15:12Speaker 1: its prayer time for sure, you know. Ship well I was.
- 1:15:19Speaker 1: I was kind of at that point where it's like
- 1:15:21Speaker 1: I need to need these plants pants to be really strong,
- 1:15:24Speaker 1: or I need him to rip right. I don't want
- 1:15:29Speaker 1: to rip it in like a minute. They need to
- 1:15:31Speaker 1: like take the whole trip or none at all, you know. So, yeah,
- 1:15:34Speaker 1: I've had some near different experiences, but that's top five
- 1:15:37Speaker 1: for sure. Now, if you had to wear with all
- 1:15:39Speaker 1: the undo your bridges, I'd be impressed. I don't know,
- 1:15:42Speaker 1: you know, under that of your belt, under that amount
- 1:15:46Speaker 1: of pressure, not not like middle pressure, but actual physical pressure,
- 1:15:50Speaker 1: I don't know if I could do the pants. Yeah, So,
- 1:15:53Speaker 1: if anything, I was thinking about trying to get ahold
- 1:15:56Speaker 1: of the animal. But that didn't have to come to
- 1:15:59Speaker 1: the at If I was ended up hanging out over space,
- 1:16:03Speaker 1: I probably would have been grabbing something, you know. You know, Um,
- 1:16:11Speaker 1: thank you. It was a lot of fun. But that
- 1:16:14Speaker 1: a story like that probably ain't all that uncommon. Not
- 1:16:17Speaker 1: not that that exact scenario plays itself out, but um,
- 1:16:21Speaker 1: we actually had a film crew come out one time
- 1:16:22Speaker 1: and film us doing this thing. They were gonna start
- 1:16:24Speaker 1: like some type of a you know. It was during
- 1:16:26Speaker 1: the Deadliest Catch days, you know, so they're trying to
- 1:16:29Speaker 1: get the next great anybody catching something, Yeah, exactly risking
- 1:16:32Speaker 1: their catch something because we were called like they're gonna
- 1:16:35Speaker 1: call us like modern cowboys or something chilly, you know,
- 1:16:37Speaker 1: and and uh so like crazy stuff like that. It
- 1:16:40Speaker 1: was always happening, you know, but that was like mine
- 1:16:42Speaker 1: for sure. The thing that I remember being that's when
- 1:16:46Speaker 1: I realized I kind of almost went from young man
- 1:16:49Speaker 1: to um, you know what, maybe need to get the
- 1:16:51Speaker 1: stuff figured out a little bit more and not be
- 1:16:53Speaker 1: doing this stuff too much. After that, it's great, that's
- 1:16:56Speaker 1: a good story. Than just say that story for close
- 1:16:59Speaker 1: calls man, Well, we can tell it again. I think
- 1:17:04Speaker 1: if we do, I mean, that would be a great one.
- 1:17:06Speaker 1: And I think we should cut it out of this
- 1:17:07Speaker 1: podcast if we actually want to do. We could just
- 1:17:09Speaker 1: beep out the end. We can beep out the entire
- 1:17:14Speaker 1: And then I was like, uh so, so Tyler, this
- 1:17:28Speaker 1: is all. This is all before you guys became the elements.
- 1:17:30Speaker 1: He wouldn't like me back then, I don't think anyway,
- 1:17:32Speaker 1: So you were wild master, don't you were? Like you
- 1:17:35Speaker 1: almost you were serious about football and almost at NFL. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:17:41Speaker 1: I played. Uh, I was a power forward and at
- 1:17:44Speaker 1: SUMME and uh, I think Steve doesn't know what that means.
- 1:17:55Speaker 1: I don't mean sm he started power forward. Yea, it's
- 1:18:02Speaker 1: like a position. It's a position. Yeah yeah there on
- 1:18:07Speaker 1: the court, on the court, on the field. Uh yeah,
- 1:18:13Speaker 1: I played, I was. I was My dad and his
- 1:18:18Speaker 1: dad and he had an identical twin. They all played
- 1:18:21Speaker 1: college football, and so I guess you could say I
- 1:18:24Speaker 1: was kind of in that line of that was in
- 1:18:28Speaker 1: my family, you know, So that was kind of what
- 1:18:30Speaker 1: uh like, I had some pretty good um, I had
- 1:18:35Speaker 1: some pretty good coaching, you know, I had I had
- 1:18:37Speaker 1: a a natural inclination to be pushed that way. I guess.
- 1:18:40Speaker 1: And so how did you reconcile all that fall sports
- 1:18:44Speaker 1: playing with with hunting fishing? Yeah, that's so. I actually
- 1:18:48Speaker 1: when I got done with football, um, I kind of
- 1:18:52Speaker 1: debated on being a coach, and that was the hunting
- 1:18:56Speaker 1: was the thing that I was like, I missed. I
- 1:18:57Speaker 1: missed too much at this point, you know. But we
- 1:19:01Speaker 1: I mean we always went like after football season, we
- 1:19:04Speaker 1: just that's when we deer hunted. So December you know,
- 1:19:07Speaker 1: and so everything, you know, and then on the bye
- 1:19:10Speaker 1: week or whatever, you know, anytime I had time that
- 1:19:12Speaker 1: was I hunted, you know, and we fished a bunch
- 1:19:14Speaker 1: because we lived on like fok. So you actually getting
- 1:19:16Speaker 1: a nickname because of that, right, Uh, what's this gonna be? No, No,
- 1:19:20Speaker 1: it's serious, Mr. December thing because you're always always I
- 1:19:24Speaker 1: killed most of my deer in December until I was
- 1:19:25Speaker 1: doing That's what my dad called me. Yeah, you know,
- 1:19:29Speaker 1: just see because I would always take it down to
- 1:19:31Speaker 1: the wire, you know, chasing a deer. You know. It
- 1:19:35Speaker 1: was early on deer hunting. I was very much kind
- 1:19:39Speaker 1: of I was. I was relegated to one property a
- 1:19:43Speaker 1: lot of times like that was my dad had a
- 1:19:46Speaker 1: lease in Kansas, and that was where we you know,
- 1:19:49Speaker 1: that was where I hunted and I got to go
- 1:19:51Speaker 1: three times a year or whatever, so I would always
- 1:19:54Speaker 1: and that So the way they managed that is they
- 1:19:57Speaker 1: want like five year old buck shot off of that place.
- 1:19:59Speaker 1: It's not like strict thing, but you know, we come
- 1:20:02Speaker 1: from Texas where you know q d M started, and
- 1:20:06Speaker 1: that was kind of their mindset is like we want
- 1:20:08Speaker 1: to shoot big old deer. Is that true that q
- 1:20:11Speaker 1: DM like took hold in Texas for its spread out. Yeah,
- 1:20:14Speaker 1: that's uh yeah, I was down in South Texans and
- 1:20:16Speaker 1: brush about just just so people who were talking about
- 1:20:18Speaker 1: Quality Dear Management, which there's a thing there's like Quality
- 1:20:22Speaker 1: Dear Management Association q DM as it's actually changed the NDIA,
- 1:20:26Speaker 1: but yeah, but you know that was like that's an organization,
- 1:20:31Speaker 1: but there's a set of there's a set of principles.
- 1:20:33Speaker 1: It was eventually exported all around the country. Yeah, And
- 1:20:36Speaker 1: people talk about QDM meaning taking strategies popularized by q
- 1:20:40Speaker 1: d M A and applying it basically you know, trying
- 1:20:44Speaker 1: to select age classes and girl big bucks not just
- 1:20:47Speaker 1: like brown is down. So that's what that my you know,
- 1:20:50Speaker 1: my dad and the people on that lease with him
- 1:20:52Speaker 1: where and we basically so I was always looking for
- 1:20:56Speaker 1: I was kind of a little man on totem pole
- 1:20:58Speaker 1: up there, and so I'm always looking for Like I
- 1:21:02Speaker 1: don't get to chase the big ones, you know, I
- 1:21:04Speaker 1: get to chase the old ones that are like nine
- 1:21:06Speaker 1: years old and have seven points or something like that.
- 1:21:09Speaker 1: Like they'd tell you if you see this big one,
- 1:21:11Speaker 1: don't touch it. No. But it's a big place. And
- 1:21:15Speaker 1: so these deer they hang out in certain areas and
- 1:21:20Speaker 1: they my dad would for sure, but I I just
- 1:21:22Speaker 1: didn't want to step on you know, I don't. I
- 1:21:24Speaker 1: didn't feel right hunting his stand, you know what I mean?
- 1:21:26Speaker 1: Just what's That's what I did sometimes? Yeah, that was
- 1:21:33Speaker 1: my that was what I did, you know. And and
- 1:21:35Speaker 1: uh and then eventually, uh, towards the end a college football,
- 1:21:41Speaker 1: I kinda I had to make a decision where I
- 1:21:44Speaker 1: was playing in some I was playing music and so
- 1:21:46Speaker 1: I was in a band that was kind of regionally
- 1:21:48Speaker 1: gaining some success in Texas, and UH kind of got
- 1:21:52Speaker 1: burnt on football a little bit. Just decided, uh not
- 1:21:56Speaker 1: to pursue the NFL. Uh. You would send me an
- 1:21:59Speaker 1: email and you mentioned cold Wetzel. So funny because like
- 1:22:01Speaker 1: big like he had that whole football music. I don't
- 1:22:06Speaker 1: associate that stuff. Man. Well so I mean Texas football
- 1:22:10Speaker 1: is huge and music. Yeah so, I mean those are
- 1:22:14Speaker 1: two things that are common for like a high school
- 1:22:16Speaker 1: boy to do, or at least in our generation. Now.
- 1:22:18Speaker 1: I don't think people play instruments too much in high
- 1:22:20Speaker 1: school anymore. Dude. I think if you went and took
- 1:22:22Speaker 1: the dudes like nothing against him, I hung out with
- 1:22:24Speaker 1: the ball, You went and took the guys from my
- 1:22:26Speaker 1: high school to play football, right, like the good the
- 1:22:30Speaker 1: guys that played. You put that whole crew together. Not
- 1:22:33Speaker 1: one of them to know how to play an instrument.
- 1:22:37Speaker 1: I mean they might like cruise the FM dial a
- 1:22:39Speaker 1: little bit, but they would not think of that. It's
- 1:22:42Speaker 1: like a you know, guys are like football and music.
- 1:22:46Speaker 1: Ted Nugent fans, Yeah yeah, man, yeah, I mean Motor
- 1:22:50Speaker 1: City man. Man, he's but he didn't play football, Dune, No,
- 1:22:52Speaker 1: but he's surely some Michiganders were looking at him like
- 1:22:56Speaker 1: I want to be that. You know, tons of dudes
- 1:23:00Speaker 1: there was. I would say more like there was some
- 1:23:01Speaker 1: more like hunting music cross over. I'm saying, fuck like
- 1:23:05Speaker 1: the and maybe I just met just recently met you
- 1:23:09Speaker 1: and me recently met CO. So I just happened to
- 1:23:12Speaker 1: just meet two football musician people. I just don't think
- 1:23:15Speaker 1: of that as the thing. And I'm saying, when when
- 1:23:18Speaker 1: where I grew up, Like the football guys weren't like
- 1:23:21Speaker 1: going home and string getting out the old six string. Yeah,
- 1:23:24Speaker 1: guys from my hometown. You know it's a I said,
- 1:23:27Speaker 1: we'll ago how the uh you know, the Alamo movie
- 1:23:30Speaker 1: kind of not but Friday out Lights. It's really how
- 1:23:32Speaker 1: he is, man. I mean it's really close, you know. So,
- 1:23:35Speaker 1: like part of it is like to get the girl,
- 1:23:37Speaker 1: so you learn how to play music. But yours really
- 1:23:39Speaker 1: wasn't that different. Uh. I had some good friends that
- 1:23:43Speaker 1: I had two good friends that started playing guitar, And
- 1:23:46Speaker 1: I'm just sitting around six months later listening to them
- 1:23:48Speaker 1: play Green Day songs and stuff, and I'm like, I
- 1:23:50Speaker 1: wish I could do that, you know so, And until recently,
- 1:23:55Speaker 1: I was the only guy still playing guitar at all them,
- 1:23:57Speaker 1: you know. So, But you guys had a serious band going, Yeah,
- 1:24:00Speaker 1: we had. I had. I was in a couple. There
- 1:24:02Speaker 1: was the first one came through football. Actually met a
- 1:24:06Speaker 1: guy who was a singer, songwriter and one of the
- 1:24:08Speaker 1: crazier people ever met. And uh, you know, he kind
- 1:24:12Speaker 1: of forced me. I was a songwriter. He forced me
- 1:24:15Speaker 1: to learn what some people would call lead guitar and
- 1:24:19Speaker 1: um and kind of be a harmony singer with him
- 1:24:22Speaker 1: and help him write and that kind of thing. So
- 1:24:23Speaker 1: we did that for like five years, had quite a
- 1:24:26Speaker 1: thing going on. And it's a long story, but basically
- 1:24:29Speaker 1: he sent an email it was not very good to
- 1:24:31Speaker 1: somebody he didn't know was as well connected as they were,
- 1:24:35Speaker 1: and we got like blacklisted and lost like half our
- 1:24:38Speaker 1: schedule for the next six months. And uh up, yeah,
- 1:24:44Speaker 1: can you go in a little more detailship, Yeah, no,
- 1:24:50Speaker 1: there was okay, So we played a show in Manhattan, Kansas,
- 1:24:54Speaker 1: and uh, we had we had recently had some pretty
- 1:24:58Speaker 1: good radio success. Um told the name of the band.
- 1:25:01Speaker 1: The name. The name was Clay Wilson Band. You know
- 1:25:04Speaker 1: he was. It was very like what people would call
- 1:25:08Speaker 1: Texas country when we started out, and it became a
- 1:25:12Speaker 1: lot more kind of I don't know, artistic or abstract
- 1:25:16Speaker 1: or heavy rockets and some country elements. Yeah yeah, and uh,
- 1:25:20Speaker 1: and so we went and play it. We opened for
- 1:25:23Speaker 1: a guy I won't say his name, but just not
- 1:25:28Speaker 1: into you know, doing that, So you wouldn't know this guy.
- 1:25:33Speaker 1: Yeah you would know him. Uh, just kind of a
- 1:25:36Speaker 1: regional dude that had a lot of money and had
- 1:25:37Speaker 1: a bus and yeah. Uh anyway, we opened for him
- 1:25:45Speaker 1: at this place and there's like, um, it's probably like
- 1:25:48Speaker 1: a four or five cat venue and um because of
- 1:25:53Speaker 1: the radio single we had that like everybody showed up
- 1:25:57Speaker 1: for us and was singing this song that was our
- 1:26:00Speaker 1: radio single currently. It was like the first time we've
- 1:26:03Speaker 1: ever seen this happen really, especially outside of the state,
- 1:26:06Speaker 1: and so we were kind of taken aback by it.
- 1:26:08Speaker 1: But like I said, he's I mean, this the lead singer.
- 1:26:11Speaker 1: He was at my wedding. But he's one of the
- 1:26:13Speaker 1: craziest people I've ever met, just you know, but also
- 1:26:17Speaker 1: like a sweet dude like you would you would he
- 1:26:19Speaker 1: would do anything for you. He would, you know, he's
- 1:26:22Speaker 1: a good friend, like crazy like Van Go old type stuff. Yeah,
- 1:26:25Speaker 1: I don't I hadn't studied vand Go too much, but
- 1:26:27Speaker 1: he would. I mean he would like put a little
- 1:26:30Speaker 1: of his ear off and bailed it to his girlfriend. No,
- 1:26:33Speaker 1: not that crazy, but uh, definitely like you know, would
- 1:26:38Speaker 1: spend hundreds and hundreds of dollars a week on alcohol,
- 1:26:41Speaker 1: and well that kind of like party crazy, party crazy, yeah,
- 1:26:45Speaker 1: not like um or whatever. Yeah. Um. Anyway, so we
- 1:26:50Speaker 1: play the show, h our crowd is better than the singer,
- 1:26:55Speaker 1: the main acts crowd and stage a little bit. Yeah
- 1:26:59Speaker 1: and uh at the so but while he's on stage,
- 1:27:03Speaker 1: our guys are in the you know in and in
- 1:27:06Speaker 1: the back party. And well there's a glass window behind
- 1:27:09Speaker 1: the stage to the outside, this outside deck where people
- 1:27:11Speaker 1: can hang out and stuff. You know, they're back. They're
- 1:27:13Speaker 1: just messing around. They're not trying to distract from a show,
- 1:27:16Speaker 1: but they are certainly doing that because everybody looking at
- 1:27:19Speaker 1: the stage is seeing through the back window at this
- 1:27:21Speaker 1: party going out and just people being you know, unruly
- 1:27:26Speaker 1: and like their butts are out potentially potentially um yeah,
- 1:27:35Speaker 1: I I so I actually you know side note, I
- 1:27:38Speaker 1: never even uh drank alcohol. I never tried alcohol until
- 1:27:42Speaker 1: I was twenty two years old, just as like a
- 1:27:44Speaker 1: discipline thing. I wanted to like prove that I could
- 1:27:48Speaker 1: just dude, I didn't know about the word discipline. Yeah,
- 1:27:55Speaker 1: it's and we have we're so alike indifferent too, and
- 1:27:59Speaker 1: a lot of specs to, which makes it would compliment
- 1:28:01Speaker 1: pretty well. But you know I'm talking about Casey here.
- 1:28:03Speaker 1: But um. Anyway, so they have a long story short.
- 1:28:07Speaker 1: We get a email from his management because he complained
- 1:28:11Speaker 1: about us causing a scene um, and she was just like,
- 1:28:16Speaker 1: you know, hey, just ask you if they were play
- 1:28:17Speaker 1: with him again, don't you know, don't be distracting or whatever.
- 1:28:20Speaker 1: At this point, like we've seen some success, the lead
- 1:28:22Speaker 1: singer kind of gets the big head a little bit
- 1:28:24Speaker 1: and he's like, he tells our manager, who's also seriously
- 1:28:27Speaker 1: the nicest guy I've ever metched about. He tells him, Hey,
- 1:28:30Speaker 1: if you don't send an email in twenty four hours,
- 1:28:31Speaker 1: I'm sending an email um to this lady and it's
- 1:28:36Speaker 1: not gonna be good. And he wants him to say
- 1:28:39Speaker 1: these specific things like, look, if I want to disturb
- 1:28:43Speaker 1: someone else's show, I'll pretty much my god, mind your
- 1:28:47Speaker 1: business kind of thing. And he's and my manager, Jared
- 1:28:51Speaker 1: said no, I'm not gonna do that, man. And twenty
- 1:28:53Speaker 1: four hours later, Clay sends this email. My best friend
- 1:28:56Speaker 1: at s m U actually helped him craft the email.
- 1:28:58Speaker 1: He said, Man, I toned it on as much as
- 1:29:00Speaker 1: I could. It was pretty rough and essentially her husband,
- 1:29:07Speaker 1: uh owned a company that works real tie with Toby Keith.
- 1:29:11Speaker 1: At the time, we didn't know that was a connection,
- 1:29:15Speaker 1: and she was a regional radio rep and so just
- 1:29:20Speaker 1: I mean literally, uh, within hours, it was like you
- 1:29:23Speaker 1: didn't hear that radio single anyway? We lost uh like
- 1:29:29Speaker 1: seriously half our shows, probably only that were on the books.
- 1:29:32Speaker 1: And uh that was when I was like, and things
- 1:29:34Speaker 1: have gotten crazy. Man like a little big for his
- 1:29:36Speaker 1: bridges and like people on the band, we're bringing just
- 1:29:39Speaker 1: gallon bags of you know, pot and on road trips.
- 1:29:44Speaker 1: I had a six month old, no money, I mean
- 1:29:47Speaker 1: no money my wife. Uh, I didn't have a job
- 1:29:51Speaker 1: at the time. Um, and so we're just broke. And
- 1:29:54Speaker 1: I'm like, if I go to jail, we're toast. I
- 1:29:57Speaker 1: can't do it. We can't we can't make it as
- 1:29:58Speaker 1: a family, you know. And if I go and I
- 1:30:00Speaker 1: knew these guys, if we got caught with drugs and stuff,
- 1:30:03Speaker 1: I was they were gonna I was gonna go down
- 1:30:05Speaker 1: with them, even though I wasn't do any of that stuff.
- 1:30:07Speaker 1: And so I just I said, you know what, I'm
- 1:30:10Speaker 1: a songwriter two and I know I had met a
- 1:30:12Speaker 1: few guys recently in Sulfur Springs where he grew up
- 1:30:14Speaker 1: that were musicians, pretty good young guys. They were all
- 1:30:17Speaker 1: like four years for five years earn me and started
- 1:30:20Speaker 1: my band and then but I had a lot of
- 1:30:22Speaker 1: network and connections through that, so we were able to
- 1:30:25Speaker 1: jump start pretty well and you know, for the next
- 1:30:28Speaker 1: four or five years did our thing was. It was fun.
- 1:30:31Speaker 1: That's an example of great decision making, very smart. Thank you.
- 1:30:36Speaker 1: I uh, I guess you could say that being sober
- 1:30:40Speaker 1: helped me. Uh Tyler in the tribe. We still record
- 1:30:46Speaker 1: every summer, my my so we we. The reason we
- 1:30:50Speaker 1: stopped touring was we played a big so we we
- 1:30:54Speaker 1: turned into country music, like kind of subculture, I guess
- 1:30:59Speaker 1: in those circles. But we we we kind of especially
- 1:31:02Speaker 1: now have edged more rock and um we always didn't
- 1:31:06Speaker 1: like fit in completely, you know. So, but we did
- 1:31:10Speaker 1: play a big show that was called uh Texas Thunder
- 1:31:15Speaker 1: or something as a big festival with like uh big
- 1:31:19Speaker 1: artists at the time like Florida, Georgia, Line, Brad Paisley,
- 1:31:22Speaker 1: some of these big country artists. Um Texas Thunder sounds
- 1:31:25Speaker 1: like a weed stream. Yeah, there's probably plenty of them.
- 1:31:29Speaker 1: Out there. Yeah. Exc when I was growing up, there
- 1:31:31Speaker 1: was like fruit Port Crippler, Texas. Yeah, tell them about
- 1:31:37Speaker 1: the inauguration. It's a local here. The uh now we
- 1:31:43Speaker 1: played Wyoming inauguration. Yeah, yeah, pretty close here. Yeah, Governor
- 1:31:46Speaker 1: Maade Matt Mead, Yeah, we played as inauguration one time
- 1:31:50Speaker 1: the band I did. Yeah, yeah, they saw us. So
- 1:31:53Speaker 1: we actually played the Republican National Governor's Convention in San Diego. Uh.
- 1:31:58Speaker 1: They flew his first class. Who was the actor that
- 1:32:00Speaker 1: I flew with? I can't even remember his name. Flew
- 1:32:03Speaker 1: right next to that guy on the way back from
- 1:32:06Speaker 1: that show. But anyway, Matt has been the most annoying
- 1:32:09Speaker 1: guy on the planet. And like, yeah, quoting his movie. Yeah,
- 1:32:17Speaker 1: I don't watch any movies, so I I when they
- 1:32:21Speaker 1: walked on the planets, like, I know that guy, I
- 1:32:22Speaker 1: just don't know who he is, you know, and my
- 1:32:24Speaker 1: buddy told me he was. But long story short, we
- 1:32:27Speaker 1: played that and then Matt Mead's wife really liked We
- 1:32:31Speaker 1: gotta back up for a second. Probably uh, perhaps the
- 1:32:38Speaker 1: greatest movie he's in, Perhaps the greatest movie ever made.
- 1:32:42Speaker 1: Monsome dove yep Pocalypse now the Pocalypse. Now, none of
- 1:32:47Speaker 1: these I've seen the other day. I was, it's just
- 1:32:53Speaker 1: we have a guy. You'll meet him in a minute.
- 1:32:54Speaker 1: Spencer new Heart, I've met him before, Okay, the other
- 1:32:59Speaker 1: day he's him. The same director that made Apocalypse Now
- 1:33:01Speaker 1: made what is perhaps the second greatest movie ever made,
- 1:33:04Speaker 1: which is called The Godfather too. Spencer Deuhaus never seen
- 1:33:10Speaker 1: any of the Godfather movies. He's like, well, I don't
- 1:33:13Speaker 1: feel that bad if I haven't seen a movie that's
- 1:33:15Speaker 1: made four I was born, Spencer, but that hurts me.
- 1:33:19Speaker 1: I told him I was to listen, man, you gotta
- 1:33:21Speaker 1: make me a promise that in two weeks you'll have
- 1:33:23Speaker 1: watched The Godfather. Yeah, he's he's he's in that, he's in.
- 1:33:31Speaker 1: He's a conciliers. What's the word they use. He's like
- 1:33:38Speaker 1: not Italian in the Godfather movies, he's not Italian, and
- 1:33:43Speaker 1: he's like a outsider. He's like Irish or something. But
- 1:33:46Speaker 1: he's like there, he's like legal counsel. He's a conciliers
- 1:33:49Speaker 1: to the Italian mafia. He's like the only non Italian
- 1:33:52Speaker 1: they trust. And two is like the all of the trilogy.
- 1:33:58Speaker 1: Neither of us have seen either of those movies. Either
- 1:34:01Speaker 1: should write something trivia and just the best Robert movie
- 1:34:06Speaker 1: is not some stuff he's been The second Hand Lines
- 1:34:11Speaker 1: is one of the best ever. Michael Haley, Joel Osmond,
- 1:34:16Speaker 1: Michael Caine, in a joking mood, I say that Ranchold
- 1:34:21Speaker 1: He Looks was the greatest American movie ever made. In
- 1:34:23Speaker 1: a joking mood. He wasn't a nat but he's like in.
- 1:34:27Speaker 1: He's in. Like if you get a bunch of critics
- 1:34:28Speaker 1: together and stuff and they like make a list of
- 1:34:30Speaker 1: the ten greatest movies they're made some bitches in a
- 1:34:32Speaker 1: couple of them. Yeah, he's great. And people off often
- 1:34:36Speaker 1: like you know, like Loan some doves highly regarded. We
- 1:34:38Speaker 1: don't see poodles. You for being on the plane with
- 1:34:40Speaker 1: the guy, I mean, I've had big plans him a
- 1:34:43Speaker 1: huge favor by not saying anything to him. I was
- 1:34:46Speaker 1: right behind him and I didn't say anything. He probably
- 1:34:48Speaker 1: loved you, he did. He actual guy don't talk to
- 1:34:51Speaker 1: He was the first talking to him. Yeah, he had
- 1:34:53Speaker 1: a he had a baseball cap on super Low and
- 1:34:56Speaker 1: everybody walked on and he was the first one on
- 1:34:58Speaker 1: the plane. Everybody walked right by, just sat there like this.
- 1:35:00Speaker 1: Took his hat off when everybody loaded on and they
- 1:35:02Speaker 1: closed the door when he wasn't incognito anymore, and they
- 1:35:05Speaker 1: were talking about it. Yeah, I love the smell day
- 1:35:09Speaker 1: Paul give him that one. No, No, but it was
- 1:35:12Speaker 1: we were riding. That's the only time I've ever been
- 1:35:14Speaker 1: first class in a plane. It was cool because the
- 1:35:16Speaker 1: Republican governors flew us out that way, so it's great.
- 1:35:20Speaker 1: They booked your first class. Yeah, they booked his first class.
- 1:35:22Speaker 1: And then, like I said, Matt Maid's wife saw us there,
- 1:35:26Speaker 1: liked us. Julie, I can't remember it now. She's like,
- 1:35:30Speaker 1: I feel like she's like six too, she's super tall. Yeah,
- 1:35:34Speaker 1: she she had. Yeah. I was telling him, you ought
- 1:35:37Speaker 1: to run for president. Yeah, nothing's gonna do it. No,
- 1:35:42Speaker 1: I wouldn't either. He kind of had that attitude like
- 1:35:46Speaker 1: about He had that like old George Washington style attitude
- 1:35:49Speaker 1: about public service, like do a thing, yeah, and then
- 1:35:54Speaker 1: you know, do a thing, go in, dude, public service,
- 1:35:59Speaker 1: leave public service, right yeah, let somebody else come in
- 1:36:03Speaker 1: and yeah, And I'd be like, like, you like contribute
- 1:36:06Speaker 1: to society, you get like reach a level of maturation,
- 1:36:10Speaker 1: do with time in public service say goodbye? Yeah? Yeah,
- 1:36:17Speaker 1: because it doesn't happen anymore. So, Yeah, we played U
- 1:36:25Speaker 1: Governor means inauguration, which was very weird, um because we're
- 1:36:29Speaker 1: playing just head banging. No, but but there were people
- 1:36:35Speaker 1: that were way too old to be doing that doing that,
- 1:36:37Speaker 1: you know, so uh it was it was very interesting.
- 1:36:41Speaker 1: You know. We tried to play some George Strait got
- 1:36:43Speaker 1: him up there to sing, and he was not much
- 1:36:46Speaker 1: for singing. Yeah, very reserved when he's on stage. Um.
- 1:36:52Speaker 1: But yeah, that was that was kind of like that
- 1:36:54Speaker 1: was the end of that band pretty much. We started
- 1:36:58Speaker 1: to kind of fizzle out and I could see guess
- 1:37:01Speaker 1: the riding on the wall and then uh, my band
- 1:37:06Speaker 1: after we started four five years later, like I said,
- 1:37:08Speaker 1: we were playing that that festival out in Midland, Texas,
- 1:37:12Speaker 1: out in the world country, that's a Friday light lights country,
- 1:37:15Speaker 1: and um, I was I was supposed to have my
- 1:37:18Speaker 1: second kid Journey. Um like any day you named your
- 1:37:23Speaker 1: kid journey after the band, um or just after journeys. Well,
- 1:37:28Speaker 1: we wanted a jay name. My wife's big on the
- 1:37:30Speaker 1: it's not alliteration. Yeah, so uh we already had one. Yeah,
- 1:37:36Speaker 1: so the second one had to be that phenomenon they
- 1:37:39Speaker 1: go with Jay's like I grew up with Genie, John
- 1:37:42Speaker 1: and Jason. People that want to go all letter. They
- 1:37:46Speaker 1: rarely break from Jay. Really, I don't think can you
- 1:37:49Speaker 1: think of any examples. My wife's family is a bunch
- 1:37:51Speaker 1: of kys. Oh they went with kids. That's very close
- 1:37:53Speaker 1: to the what comes after Jay? We're progressive here a
- 1:38:00Speaker 1: bunch of q You ever watched um Seven Brides for
- 1:38:04Speaker 1: Seven Brothers. It's old musical, pretty good. It's one of
- 1:38:08Speaker 1: my favorites. So uh. The mom wanted Bible names and
- 1:38:11Speaker 1: a dad wanted the alphabet, so they have Abraham through
- 1:38:15Speaker 1: F and they couldn't find the F. So they named
- 1:38:17Speaker 1: the baby Frankin. Since it's pretty good anyway, So we
- 1:38:27Speaker 1: because she was supposed to she was do really soon.
- 1:38:30Speaker 1: I had decided to drive her car out play the show,
- 1:38:33Speaker 1: and then we drove out. Um or, I drove out
- 1:38:36Speaker 1: that night, and so I'm in the hospital and I
- 1:38:41Speaker 1: find out there was only our tour manager. Who's this
- 1:38:44Speaker 1: big dude from Uncertain Texas who was six ten. I
- 1:38:47Speaker 1: don't know how or why he decided he should fit
- 1:38:49Speaker 1: in a van and uncertain Texas. Uncertain Texas, yep, so
- 1:38:53Speaker 1: right right on the border Louisiana and near Cattle Lake,
- 1:38:55Speaker 1: the only natural lake in Texas, and um, just good,
- 1:39:00Speaker 1: good dude loved him. Uh. And then two guys I
- 1:39:03Speaker 1: think it was our drummer and our guitar player, and
- 1:39:07Speaker 1: the guitar player was driving. He was definitely the worst
- 1:39:09Speaker 1: driver of us all. And I don't know if there
- 1:39:11Speaker 1: was anything involved in this accident, but I do know
- 1:39:13Speaker 1: they were in a like construction zone where the they
- 1:39:16Speaker 1: put those concrete walls up, you know, to kind of
- 1:39:18Speaker 1: like devvy you to a different direction, and um, they
- 1:39:23Speaker 1: I guess somehow hit one of those total ur van. Um.
- 1:39:27Speaker 1: Our guitar player also happened to be Uh. He's very
- 1:39:31Speaker 1: introverted and didn't really hang out with us on trips
- 1:39:34Speaker 1: a whole lot. He puts ear phones in, you know,
- 1:39:36Speaker 1: and just do his own thing. Um. And but we
- 1:39:40Speaker 1: still loved him. A good guy, you know overall. And um,
- 1:39:43Speaker 1: he apparently totals our van. He's also kind of does
- 1:39:46Speaker 1: like a lot of our finances, whatever that means. I mean,
- 1:39:50Speaker 1: you know, just we got we had a couple of loans.
- 1:39:52Speaker 1: We had a loan pulled out to get our first
- 1:39:54Speaker 1: album done, or really our second album, but our first
- 1:39:58Speaker 1: you know, Uh, produce. We produced our first album, we
- 1:40:01Speaker 1: wanted a different producer and um, anyway, it was tied
- 1:40:05Speaker 1: to the van. The van was collateral on the loan
- 1:40:08Speaker 1: note for that album. So to get the uh the
- 1:40:13Speaker 1: van title, UM, so that we could claim insurance, we
- 1:40:17Speaker 1: had to pay off the note for the album and
- 1:40:20Speaker 1: it left us with sixty seven dollars in our account
- 1:40:24Speaker 1: and and so and then uh, two weeks later, our
- 1:40:28Speaker 1: guitar player quit, just out of out of the blue.
- 1:40:31Speaker 1: And when he quit, there you know, he was good
- 1:40:33Speaker 1: friends from high school with the other two dudes in
- 1:40:35Speaker 1: the band, and they were like, man, I just don't
- 1:40:37Speaker 1: really want to play without him. You know, things were
- 1:40:39Speaker 1: going well um overall, but we were all just I
- 1:40:43Speaker 1: always think that that the biggest like stifle to creativity
- 1:40:47Speaker 1: is uh, too big a workload on people. I think
- 1:40:50Speaker 1: that's what That's what stimy's creativity, in my opinion, is
- 1:40:53Speaker 1: when people get so busy that they don't have time
- 1:40:56Speaker 1: to sit there and think, you know, yeah, and so
- 1:41:00Speaker 1: I feel like that uh, we were at that point,
- 1:41:03Speaker 1: We're like, we're all working these jobs at pizza in
- 1:41:06Speaker 1: I was basically a glorified janitor at my dad's fishing lodge.
- 1:41:11Speaker 1: You know, I have a degree from s m U
- 1:41:13Speaker 1: with a economics which is like I could go get
- 1:41:15Speaker 1: a good job in Dallas, you know, but I'm making
- 1:41:17Speaker 1: you know, hardly anything working for my dad just because
- 1:41:20Speaker 1: he would let me go tour on the weekends, you know.
- 1:41:23Speaker 1: And so uh, anyway, we're all just like kind of
- 1:41:27Speaker 1: burnt a little bit, but we're doing good things. We're
- 1:41:30Speaker 1: still just on this weird we're in this weird category.
- 1:41:32Speaker 1: We're not making a whole lot of money still, um,
- 1:41:35Speaker 1: but we're playing some big shows a big artist. Anyway,
- 1:41:38Speaker 1: when he quit, everybody else to kind of fell off,
- 1:41:41Speaker 1: and uh, I truly like kind of went into I
- 1:41:43Speaker 1: would say I went I was depressed for like eighteen
- 1:41:46Speaker 1: months and um, and kind of had to work through that.
- 1:41:50Speaker 1: But that was kind of the end of the whole thing.
- 1:41:51Speaker 1: Is just like, you know, we're playing this big festival
- 1:41:55Speaker 1: guitar play gets in the Wreck and Totals of Van
- 1:41:57Speaker 1: and that was But it was like at the time,
- 1:42:00Speaker 1: I was depressed for eight teen months, But then I
- 1:42:01Speaker 1: look back on it years later, a couple of years later,
- 1:42:04Speaker 1: and like I got to spend all that time with
- 1:42:06Speaker 1: my daughter as a newborn that I would not have
- 1:42:09Speaker 1: I would have been gone all the time. You know,
- 1:42:11Speaker 1: I was gone all the time. And my son at
- 1:42:13Speaker 1: the time, you know, he's five at the time, four
- 1:42:17Speaker 1: years old whatever it is. So you know, we're just
- 1:42:20Speaker 1: like I got to spend some like precious time with
- 1:42:23Speaker 1: them that I would don't. I would not trade anything
- 1:42:25Speaker 1: for good. Yeah, and so I it was definitely blessing.
- 1:42:29Speaker 1: I'm very glad it happened. And now things are a
- 1:42:33Speaker 1: lot more calm and have a you know, decent job,
- 1:42:37Speaker 1: and I'm just really appreciative for that as opposed to,
- 1:42:40Speaker 1: you know, doing the touring thing. It's hard. You probably
- 1:42:44Speaker 1: talked co about it, so it's it's not always easy.
- 1:42:47Speaker 1: And he's doing he's super successful right now, so he
- 1:42:49Speaker 1: probably gets to you know, at the time, we were
- 1:42:52Speaker 1: loading all our own stuff in and out. I was
- 1:42:55Speaker 1: driving the van a lot. And I don't sleep well,
- 1:42:57Speaker 1: you know, like I mean, if I I'll wake up
- 1:43:00Speaker 1: when it pen drops, you know. So it's just I didn't.
- 1:43:04Speaker 1: I would go to sleep at four and wake up
- 1:43:06Speaker 1: at six thirty, you know, and then go do it
- 1:43:08Speaker 1: all over again. Bloodshot. It was. It was tough for
- 1:43:11Speaker 1: a twenty five year old. Even it's tough, you know,
- 1:43:13Speaker 1: I can't imagine doing it right now for sure. So
- 1:43:15Speaker 1: how did you guys meet? Funny story, you say it
- 1:43:20Speaker 1: how you wanted. So I will always joke that we
- 1:43:23Speaker 1: made on the internet. Um, but we didn't go to
- 1:43:27Speaker 1: the same high school. Uh, but my wife is from
- 1:43:30Speaker 1: the same hometown as Tyler's right up the road, you know,
- 1:43:32Speaker 1: like uh like eighteen miles or something like that. I
- 1:43:35Speaker 1: don't know. Um. And um, when my wife and I
- 1:43:39Speaker 1: were dating, she was like, Hey, this guy fly fishes.
- 1:43:43Speaker 1: You should go fly fish with him because I like
- 1:43:44Speaker 1: to fly fish a lot too. Um. And so I
- 1:43:47Speaker 1: was like, okay, you made a film going fishing at
- 1:43:50Speaker 1: the Valley of at All in New Mexico and I watched.
- 1:43:52Speaker 1: I was like it was pretty cool. Yeah. So uh
- 1:43:55Speaker 1: she was like, now, um, I don't think she regrets it,
- 1:43:57Speaker 1: but now fly fishing for large mouths or you went
- 1:44:01Speaker 1: to trout water no, So like it's funny, yeah a
- 1:44:05Speaker 1: little bit. But um, we kind of grew up in
- 1:44:07Speaker 1: that bass culture thing with like fancy boats, fancy trucks,
- 1:44:11Speaker 1: and we didn't really weren't in it that much because
- 1:44:13Speaker 1: we were pretty poor. But like we saw that this
- 1:44:17Speaker 1: firsthand for me because my dad had a fishing lodge
- 1:44:19Speaker 1: and that was I mean, it was just like the
- 1:44:21Speaker 1: nineties were crazy at Fork, like it was operation world Record.
- 1:44:25Speaker 1: I mean they were trying to break the world record
- 1:44:27Speaker 1: at Fork. It was like all this new, this whole
- 1:44:29Speaker 1: new school thought as like pertaining to large mouth bass.
- 1:44:32Speaker 1: Text parks and wildlife was trying to grow the biggest
- 1:44:34Speaker 1: bass they could and Fork was a place that they
- 1:44:37Speaker 1: were supposed to do it. You know, they're a double
- 1:44:39Speaker 1: digit every day in the spring. It felt like whenever,
- 1:44:42Speaker 1: like in those days like that. I mean, it was
- 1:44:45Speaker 1: just it was crazy that that fishing lodge was a
- 1:44:49Speaker 1: large mouth bass fishing lodge. Um, they called it a
- 1:44:53Speaker 1: bass and breakfast. It was kind of a play on words. Yeah,
- 1:44:56Speaker 1: so um it was. It was pretty much still probably
- 1:45:00Speaker 1: is the hot kind of the more high class, one
- 1:45:02Speaker 1: of the nicer places on the lake. Yeah. It's got
- 1:45:05Speaker 1: seven rooms and my dad it was originally like a
- 1:45:08Speaker 1: house slash real estate office for when the lake, you know,
- 1:45:12Speaker 1: when they did eminent domain, all the lake, all the
- 1:45:15Speaker 1: new property around the lake is all a sudden worth
- 1:45:18Speaker 1: a lot more like it took a lot of money
- 1:45:20Speaker 1: away from those land away from those landowners. But it
- 1:45:23Speaker 1: also created this new lake front property that is worth
- 1:45:27Speaker 1: a lot of money. And so this guy, this proprietor
- 1:45:30Speaker 1: kind of opens up this business slash his house. It's
- 1:45:33Speaker 1: a big place. While he sold it to my dad,
- 1:45:36Speaker 1: and my dad kind of renovated a little bit and
- 1:45:38Speaker 1: put bathrooms in rooms and what's it called Lake FOURK
- 1:45:40Speaker 1: Lodge pass and breakfast. So he's well, they used to make.
- 1:45:48Speaker 1: My mom's a really good cook and and they used
- 1:45:50Speaker 1: to make a huge breakfast for everybody stayed there at
- 1:45:52Speaker 1: ten thirty. So the guys would fish the morning and
- 1:45:54Speaker 1: bring them all back in and they'd eat just you know,
- 1:45:58Speaker 1: sixty eggs and all the biscuits and gravy and sinemon
- 1:46:01Speaker 1: rolls and everything. My mom made everything, you know homemade. Yeah,
- 1:46:06Speaker 1: my parents still do it, but they they have scaled
- 1:46:08Speaker 1: back a lot because as you could imagine, phone calls
- 1:46:11Speaker 1: at midnight from you know, they pretty much do groups,
- 1:46:15Speaker 1: and they kind of do it more like an airbnb
- 1:46:17Speaker 1: thing where it's like, hey, you kind of take care
- 1:46:18Speaker 1: of yourself where you're there this weekend. You know, So
- 1:46:20Speaker 1: you rebelled and decided to become a trout fisherman kind of.
- 1:46:24Speaker 1: I don't know. Originally I was fly fishing for bass
- 1:46:27Speaker 1: because you know, at sixteen or whatever, seventeen like, but
- 1:46:32Speaker 1: not really, I don't really. The Rockies is a whole
- 1:46:35Speaker 1: different world, you know. Um, But if in college that's
- 1:46:39Speaker 1: what I dreamed about. I didn't have any free time
- 1:46:41Speaker 1: in college. I mean we were practicing like probably three
- 1:46:44Speaker 1: fifteen thirty days a year, you know, so any time.
- 1:46:48Speaker 1: But my dream I would read books about fly fishing
- 1:46:51Speaker 1: and tied flies in my own room and just you know,
- 1:46:55Speaker 1: that was what I wanted to do. And I don't
- 1:46:57Speaker 1: know if it was like an active counterculture role mindset,
- 1:47:02Speaker 1: but it probably was countercultural subconscious nudged that way a lot,
- 1:47:07Speaker 1: you know, because you kind of just see this whole
- 1:47:10Speaker 1: just like flash and bang of big bass fishing and
- 1:47:13Speaker 1: ninety thousand dollar boats and ninety thousand dollar trucks and
- 1:47:16Speaker 1: you know, all the things that come with it, and
- 1:47:18Speaker 1: it's like, I don't know, it's a little bit of
- 1:47:21Speaker 1: that and a little bit of also this whole mystique
- 1:47:22Speaker 1: and the Rockies. The inability to to buy ELK tags,
- 1:47:27Speaker 1: when you can go get to thirty dollar fishing license,
- 1:47:29Speaker 1: you know, that's kind of what drove me that way.
- 1:47:32Speaker 1: Probably you guys caught wind of each other. Yeah. I
- 1:47:34Speaker 1: was actually living on the coast, working for a fist
- 1:47:38Speaker 1: and spending all my free time fly fishing in the bay.
- 1:47:41Speaker 1: That's how I learned how to fly fish pretty much.
- 1:47:43Speaker 1: I was like Tyler, I had that you know, the
- 1:47:44Speaker 1: warm trout, yeah, red trout and flounder, you know, and
- 1:47:48Speaker 1: and honestly, I really like catching sheep head, which might
- 1:47:51Speaker 1: be different than what you'll call it sheepid, but I
- 1:47:53Speaker 1: know that. I know that about big teeth. You know,
- 1:47:56Speaker 1: jump some tarp in too. I did jump some tarping
- 1:47:58Speaker 1: on fly. Yeah that's kind of wild. Um. So that's
- 1:48:02Speaker 1: how we kind of started lining up. Was m Tyler
- 1:48:07Speaker 1: saved my name in his phone is what was it?
- 1:48:09Speaker 1: Uh something? Because I really wanted to catch her red
- 1:48:14Speaker 1: fish you know at the time on the fly. So
- 1:48:16Speaker 1: we still haven't done that. But um, I was up there.
- 1:48:21Speaker 1: I was long distance with my girlfriend at that time,
- 1:48:22Speaker 1: who's my wife now, and I was up visiting her
- 1:48:25Speaker 1: and him and I planned a little fly fishing trip
- 1:48:28Speaker 1: to a place that we have um uh striper fishery, um,
- 1:48:32Speaker 1: you know, stock strapper fishery. I think they might reproduce
- 1:48:35Speaker 1: there anyways, it's there's enough salinity that I think they
- 1:48:38Speaker 1: have reproducing population, So pretty good fishery. I actually caught
- 1:48:41Speaker 1: one there a month before, a nice fish, like you know,
- 1:48:43Speaker 1: twenty five in long fish and um, so we took
- 1:48:48Speaker 1: a little trip up there, and Tyler was like, hey, man,
- 1:48:51Speaker 1: you monify like film this and I was like sure, man,
- 1:48:53Speaker 1: I don't care. You know, whatever sounds cool, and we
- 1:48:55Speaker 1: like put together a little thing, you know, just kind
- 1:48:57Speaker 1: of for fun. And then like a month later he's like, hey,
- 1:49:01Speaker 1: you want to come up and we'll drive to Arizona
- 1:49:03Speaker 1: in fish for twenty four hours and then drive that home.
- 1:49:06Speaker 1: And I was like absolutely, So then we took off
- 1:49:09Speaker 1: across the country to go, uh catching Apache trout, which
- 1:49:12Speaker 1: is kind of a rare native trout species. Is that
- 1:49:15Speaker 1: a cutthroat pretty much like a subspecies of cutthroat, which, uh,
- 1:49:20Speaker 1: your friend Mark Kennon would probably have some interesting things
- 1:49:23Speaker 1: to say about how that all works. You know, Uh,
- 1:49:25Speaker 1: there's group there's groupers or lumpers, and then there's dividers split. Yeah. Um,
- 1:49:32Speaker 1: whether no matter how you feel on that, they do
- 1:49:33Speaker 1: look different. So it's fun to cross those off your list.
- 1:49:35Speaker 1: And in the native fish live in some really cool
- 1:49:38Speaker 1: places and uh really, um, we made a video from that.
- 1:49:42Speaker 1: It's pretty cool. We called the Apache Trout like we
- 1:49:44Speaker 1: wanted to. And then on the way home from there,
- 1:49:46Speaker 1: we kind of, like I don't know, also decided we
- 1:49:49Speaker 1: like to deer hunt, and uh, Tyler kind of floated
- 1:49:52Speaker 1: the idea of having a podcast, Um to me while
- 1:49:55Speaker 1: we're driving home through hail storms. Yeah, how many years
- 1:49:59Speaker 1: ago is this? That was sixteen early and six mid
- 1:50:03Speaker 1: summer sixteen. So what do you guys do with your
- 1:50:05Speaker 1: patchy trout video? You put it on YouTube. It's on YouTube. Ye, yeah,
- 1:50:09Speaker 1: it's a pretty low views, like six minutes. It's gotta
- 1:50:13Speaker 1: a couple hundred views on it. Well, did you guys
- 1:50:24Speaker 1: get into it thinking you're just good do it for fun?
- 1:50:26Speaker 1: Or did you get it thinking that you were going
- 1:50:28Speaker 1: to figure out a way to like do outdoor media. Um,
- 1:50:31Speaker 1: but just do it on your own without We definitely
- 1:50:33Speaker 1: had different outlooks on this. Tyler is a visionary. I
- 1:50:36Speaker 1: mean you can sell by starting bands doing all that stuff,
- 1:50:39Speaker 1: you know, Um, I am much more of a free spirit,
- 1:50:42Speaker 1: which not to say he isn't. But I just was like,
- 1:50:45Speaker 1: this is fun cool. I kind of fly out the
- 1:50:47Speaker 1: seat of the pants, kind of impulsive a little bit,
- 1:50:49Speaker 1: which my wife will tell you. I'm not so I
- 1:50:50Speaker 1: don't understand you know of stuff, but thank you by
- 1:50:53Speaker 1: the leg of your pants. Yeah, man, Tylered experimented with
- 1:51:03Speaker 1: the outdoor stuff a little bit before that. Yeah, I did,
- 1:51:06Speaker 1: uh kind of having video and ducks and whatever forever.
- 1:51:13Speaker 1: But yeah, I mean, I've always have always wanted to
- 1:51:16Speaker 1: do what I'm doing right now for a living, Like
- 1:51:17Speaker 1: It's always been the goal. Even like even when I
- 1:51:22Speaker 1: when I was chasing the music dream, I always thought
- 1:51:25Speaker 1: if there was something one thing I could do besides
- 1:51:28Speaker 1: music that I would rather do, it would be this.
- 1:51:30Speaker 1: Do you'd rather do more than being a rock and
- 1:51:34Speaker 1: roll star? Yeah, I think so. I love and I
- 1:51:36Speaker 1: love creating music right there. Oh, this is I mean,
- 1:51:39Speaker 1: it's what it's literally, it's who I am. Like I
- 1:51:42Speaker 1: this is what I've done since I was I mean,
- 1:51:45Speaker 1: I was running around one time. It was a quick
- 1:51:47Speaker 1: little story interjection here, Sorry, my dad. I left a
- 1:51:51Speaker 1: red rider out in the rain and and uh leaned
- 1:51:56Speaker 1: up against chain Lake fence and it rusted and my
- 1:51:59Speaker 1: dad got he's a gun he's very strict with gun safety.
- 1:52:03Speaker 1: So he got, you know, a little bit perturbed by that,
- 1:52:07Speaker 1: and so he banned me from my gun for a
- 1:52:09Speaker 1: long time. I don't know, it was like probably a year,
- 1:52:12Speaker 1: but he, uh, he made me a bow out of
- 1:52:15Speaker 1: a willow tree and it's literally like cut the branch
- 1:52:19Speaker 1: in two spots, tie some trot line string mcnotchet, tie
- 1:52:22Speaker 1: some trot line string to it. And he gave me
- 1:52:24Speaker 1: an aluminum arrow. And that was what I hunted birds
- 1:52:26Speaker 1: with for a year. I never killed. You always do
- 1:52:32Speaker 1: with the red riders. It would rust them out, is uh.
- 1:52:35Speaker 1: We'd speed load them where you put all your babies
- 1:52:37Speaker 1: in your mouth, like hundreds of babies in your mouth,
- 1:52:41Speaker 1: then you line up your mouth to that port, blow
- 1:52:44Speaker 1: them all in there, and you just could rust your ships. Man,
- 1:52:48Speaker 1: I had a daisy. Everybody's got the like leave the
- 1:52:51Speaker 1: or maybe not everybody. A lot of people of that
- 1:52:53Speaker 1: leave the baby gun out and get in trouble. Story.
- 1:52:55Speaker 1: I feel like it's a thing. It's like almost a
- 1:52:57Speaker 1: rite of patches us. It was if you left the
- 1:52:59Speaker 1: old man's tools out. Yeah, I was getting in trouble
- 1:53:03Speaker 1: for a roof and hammer a lot because it's kind
- 1:53:05Speaker 1: of like a hatchet. I'd always take that bath. Uh.
- 1:53:07Speaker 1: But I was doing that with a Daisy twenty two
- 1:53:10Speaker 1: caliber um, you know, like bolt action, and those are lead.
- 1:53:14Speaker 1: So as a kid, I was packing lead lead pellets
- 1:53:18Speaker 1: in my lip like it was snuff. And it's a
- 1:53:23Speaker 1: great way to carry him, you know. And so yeah,
- 1:53:26Speaker 1: if I like twitch a little bit, that's probably why
- 1:53:29Speaker 1: I remember, Uh, my old man, we left someone left
- 1:53:33Speaker 1: the tools out in the yard and they got rained on.
- 1:53:35Speaker 1: And remember my old man taking me my two brothers
- 1:53:37Speaker 1: and putting us in the bathroom with the light out,
- 1:53:41Speaker 1: and he said, when someone's ready to tell me who
- 1:53:43Speaker 1: left those tools on in the rain, and three of
- 1:53:44Speaker 1: you can come out of that bathroom. And no one
- 1:53:46Speaker 1: had any idea. I can't hereby we're just I feel
- 1:53:49Speaker 1: like someone had the way we remember it, someone had
- 1:53:53Speaker 1: even to come out and be like, I didn't you know,
- 1:53:55Speaker 1: no one had any idea. You couldn't come out of
- 1:53:58Speaker 1: the bath roountil. Someone's gonna clarify for the two left
- 1:54:00Speaker 1: the tools on the rain. There's such a big thing
- 1:54:02Speaker 1: to So you were the youngest, did you get remember
- 1:54:05Speaker 1: like that? Feeling that you'd be laying in bed and
- 1:54:07Speaker 1: then start raining, and just the feeling a dread that
- 1:54:11Speaker 1: you know something's out in the rain. It's not the
- 1:54:13Speaker 1: rain outside, just to feeling like you're gonna wake up
- 1:54:19Speaker 1: and be like, oh no, we left that out in
- 1:54:21Speaker 1: the rain and in all the trump but you're gonna
- 1:54:23Speaker 1: be rain anxiety for sure. It's constant. Yeah, So that's
- 1:54:29Speaker 1: kind of how we kind of got together, was the
- 1:54:30Speaker 1: fly fishing thing, and then decided we deer hunt. Yeah,
- 1:54:33Speaker 1: so how many how many how many videos have you
- 1:54:35Speaker 1: guys made it as the Elements four hunt? I think
- 1:54:38Speaker 1: it's OK. Yeah, I mean there's probably a few that
- 1:54:42Speaker 1: we made that aren't on the channel too. There's definitely
- 1:54:44Speaker 1: some we've got something. We've got something pervace that we're
- 1:54:48Speaker 1: going to media channel at some point, so some new ones.
- 1:54:51Speaker 1: How did you guys come up with the name of
- 1:54:52Speaker 1: the Element? I wanted something, so I wanted something that
- 1:54:59Speaker 1: basically I was trying to compete with meat Eater, right,
- 1:55:02Speaker 1: so I needed something that was broad. I didn't because
- 1:55:04Speaker 1: we I mean, I love deer hunting and I think
- 1:55:06Speaker 1: I've learned a lot about it the last few years especially,
- 1:55:09Speaker 1: but I mean what we did growing up, Like whatever
- 1:55:12Speaker 1: season it was, that's what you did, you know, if
- 1:55:14Speaker 1: it's smart, Yeah exactly. So, I mean we did everything,
- 1:55:18Speaker 1: and I love doing everything. I love fishing and hunting everything.
- 1:55:21Speaker 1: So that's what we did growing up, and that's what
- 1:55:23Speaker 1: I wanted to do eventually with the Element. But I
- 1:55:26Speaker 1: also knew like if we niche down a little bit,
- 1:55:28Speaker 1: we can gain some traction because why it tells a
- 1:55:30Speaker 1: pretty big category. And so, um, I I left the name.
- 1:55:35Speaker 1: It's kind of like a broad thing and uh and
- 1:55:39Speaker 1: then we need to become a rock band that name.
- 1:55:41Speaker 1: Yeah yeah yeah, um so yeah, that's that's kind of
- 1:55:48Speaker 1: the reason I wanted the name to be, to be
- 1:55:51Speaker 1: able to represent like whatever you're doing is what you're doing,
- 1:55:56Speaker 1: you know, but you guys have had You've guys had
- 1:55:59Speaker 1: the most action and become known for just like on
- 1:56:04Speaker 1: the fly wait til hunting Yeah yeah, which, like I said,
- 1:56:07Speaker 1: it's like they tail version of running and gunning for turkeys. Yeah,
- 1:56:10Speaker 1: I mean that's what. Yeah, I mean, that's and he's like,
- 1:56:14Speaker 1: like he mentioned, he's always down for a good time
- 1:56:17Speaker 1: and he's always just like he's super optimistic. His uh
- 1:56:21Speaker 1: just positive spin on everything, I mean, and that's like,
- 1:56:24Speaker 1: that's a big part of this deal because uh, we
- 1:56:27Speaker 1: had no money when we started this thing at all.
- 1:56:29Speaker 1: It was just like I had some cameras. I actually
- 1:56:31Speaker 1: did wedding wedding film, wedding videography so that I could
- 1:56:34Speaker 1: pay for cameras to do this, and basically we uh
- 1:56:41Speaker 1: he his his kind of optimism is what got us
- 1:56:44Speaker 1: through because we're hunting public land pressured stuff, especially in
- 1:56:48Speaker 1: Texas where we started, lots of people, little deer, not
- 1:56:52Speaker 1: very many bucks, low kind of low deer density areas,
- 1:56:55Speaker 1: and that sounds great. Yeah, it's so much funny. It's
- 1:56:57Speaker 1: so much funny. You know, you're just sitting in a
- 1:56:58Speaker 1: tree waiting on something to walk by, you know, and
- 1:57:01Speaker 1: nothing does most of the time. So it was a
- 1:57:04Speaker 1: struggle and uh like for me, h, knowing that we
- 1:57:08Speaker 1: needed to make videos, I mean to to have any
- 1:57:11Speaker 1: sort of traction happened that it was hard. I got
- 1:57:14Speaker 1: down on myself a lot about it. And so having
- 1:57:16Speaker 1: him around is like crucial to our his like mentality
- 1:57:20Speaker 1: to our what we that's then it's crucial to um,
- 1:57:26Speaker 1: I try to be as optimistic as I can, and
- 1:57:28Speaker 1: it really isn't even it's it's very inert within me.
- 1:57:31Speaker 1: Yeah you want to try. So it's not that like
- 1:57:34Speaker 1: I'm optimist, but I'm just always looking for the next
- 1:57:38Speaker 1: good thing to do, and not like a not like
- 1:57:41Speaker 1: a fix or a high. But like, if we're in
- 1:57:44Speaker 1: a situation this is this is like the microcasm of
- 1:57:47Speaker 1: how we are twenty nineteen eighteen. Um. We are calling
- 1:57:53Speaker 1: in a buck on public land, rattling them in from
- 1:57:56Speaker 1: three fifty yards out. I'm the shooter, Tyler's the videographer.
- 1:58:00Speaker 1: Uh rallis deer in liket yards and I take the
- 1:58:03Speaker 1: shot and my arrow deflects off of something grass or
- 1:58:07Speaker 1: something like that, and immediately I'm grabbing another era I'm
- 1:58:09Speaker 1: like trying to kill it, dear still, and Tyler like,
- 1:58:17Speaker 1: and then on the way home, I'm like, oh man,
- 1:58:21Speaker 1: that's s dunk. And then Tyler, you know, Tyler's kind
- 1:58:23Speaker 1: of over it already, but like in the moment, I'm like,
- 1:58:25Speaker 1: let's go, you know, like we just gotta get this
- 1:58:27Speaker 1: thing done, whatever it takes to do it, which just
- 1:58:29Speaker 1: sounds so cliche, you know, but the reason cliches exist
- 1:58:32Speaker 1: is because a lot of times they're true. And a
- 1:58:34Speaker 1: lot of times the thing you need to do. So yeah,
- 1:58:36Speaker 1: that's kind of how I operate. Just um uh Tyler, Um,
- 1:58:41Speaker 1: you're not critical of me of this, but you've pointed
- 1:58:42Speaker 1: out I'll put it that way, Tyler, this is great.
- 1:58:44Speaker 1: We have a great relationship because what we do in
- 1:58:47Speaker 1: the woods is we stand next to one another and
- 1:58:50Speaker 1: we shoot as many holes in the boat as we can,
- 1:58:52Speaker 1: uh proverbably not like the boat we're hunt out of,
- 1:58:55Speaker 1: but um, until we just find run the sieve through
- 1:59:00Speaker 1: the idea, until we find the idea of what to
- 1:59:03Speaker 1: do hunting. And that's what we do. And so where
- 1:59:06Speaker 1: was I going with that? Whenever I was talking about that,
- 1:59:07Speaker 1: I kind of got lost. You were talking about the
- 1:59:09Speaker 1: microchasm of our Yeah, yeah, just that that's kind of
- 1:59:12Speaker 1: how we are. So like, I'll have an idea and
- 1:59:15Speaker 1: Tyler was like, no, we can't do that because this
- 1:59:17Speaker 1: isn't this And like, if you learn to put your
- 1:59:19Speaker 1: pride aside and understand that you're both trying to have
- 1:59:22Speaker 1: the best outcome, then you can get that. But if
- 1:59:25Speaker 1: you're the guys like, well, why don't we want to
- 1:59:27Speaker 1: do my idea become possessive of like like you want
- 1:59:30Speaker 1: to own the end results, so you feel like you
- 1:59:33Speaker 1: need to own the process. Yeah. If you can get
- 1:59:35Speaker 1: by that, man, you can you can do some stuff. Yeah. Yeah,
- 1:59:38Speaker 1: that's that's it. I think even in business, like that's
- 1:59:41Speaker 1: the way to be. Like, you have to be able
- 1:59:42Speaker 1: to speak to another person straightforward. There's no reason to
- 1:59:47Speaker 1: mess around, you know, like, let me tell you how
- 1:59:50Speaker 1: I think about it, and don't get offended. And I won't.
- 1:59:52Speaker 1: I'm not saying anything about you. I'm just saying this
- 1:59:55Speaker 1: is my idea, So what do you think about that?
- 1:59:58Speaker 1: And we just could constantly. That's like, that's a business thing,
- 2:00:01Speaker 1: but it's also it's how we kill deer. What I
- 2:00:03Speaker 1: was saying was what your critical ever bring up about me?
- 2:00:06Speaker 1: That's what I was saying. The um, I'm kind of
- 2:00:09Speaker 1: a little bit too optimistic sometimes, so It'll be the
- 2:00:12Speaker 1: last day of a hunt eleven am and I'm still
- 2:00:14Speaker 1: like trying to rattle in dear on the way out
- 2:00:16Speaker 1: of the woods or something like that. That's that's me.
- 2:00:19Speaker 1: I'm that guy, like got you're slow to switch it
- 2:00:21Speaker 1: into the holy ship mode. I don't. I don't take
- 2:00:24Speaker 1: my release off pretty much till I get back to
- 2:00:25Speaker 1: the truck, you know, yeah, and where Tyler's like, Okay,
- 2:00:29Speaker 1: let's get home and see the family, you know, which
- 2:00:31Speaker 1: is a good thing. Uh So just you know, a
- 2:00:33Speaker 1: different way we operate. You guys, ever get in to
- 2:00:35Speaker 1: a fist fight. Never fist fight, no, no, never even
- 2:00:37Speaker 1: yelled at each other. But we've had our disagreements, for sure.
- 2:00:41Speaker 1: We Uh, this thing Tyler remarks about a lot. And
- 2:00:44Speaker 1: I think it's kind of interesting is we're both Christians. Uh,
- 2:00:47Speaker 1: we kind of try to live by a certain set
- 2:00:49Speaker 1: of standards and uh, you'll never this. Now, this stuff
- 2:00:52Speaker 1: only happens between us, right, We we usually keep these
- 2:00:55Speaker 1: disagreements pretty private. Um, but you'll never see two grown
- 2:00:58Speaker 1: men like be very vehemient with one another and not
- 2:01:04Speaker 1: say a single cuss word the whole time. It's yeah, yeah,
- 2:01:09Speaker 1: So it's like we have a lot of pauses like
- 2:01:13Speaker 1: like what do I say? And it kind of goes
- 2:01:15Speaker 1: back to like the leap for all Triestians, like how
- 2:01:17Speaker 1: do I not escalate the situation? You know? That's right,
- 2:01:20Speaker 1: that's right, And honestly, we we um, we still have
- 2:01:23Speaker 1: disagreements from time to time, but we haven't really ever
- 2:01:25Speaker 1: had like a knockdown drag out, I'm not doing this
- 2:01:27Speaker 1: anymore too much kind of deal. Were you guys? Were
- 2:01:30Speaker 1: you guys raised the religious households? Yeah? Yeah, there was
- 2:01:34Speaker 1: a moment, uh though, just to go back to what
- 2:01:37Speaker 1: you said, where I was like I was pretty much
- 2:01:39Speaker 1: done with the element. There was a moment, yeah, Like
- 2:01:43Speaker 1: I got to the point where no, I just we
- 2:01:49Speaker 1: So at postseason there's always this kind of like postseason
- 2:01:52Speaker 1: drag where you're like, man, it's cold, there's nothing to do.
- 2:01:55Speaker 1: We didn't have as good a season we wanted as
- 2:01:57Speaker 1: we wanted maybe uh, like early on especially, and and
- 2:02:01Speaker 1: we're in that same mode where I was talking about
- 2:02:03Speaker 1: with my band earlier. We're like, uh, we have to
- 2:02:05Speaker 1: go work jobs and then also do this part time.
- 2:02:09Speaker 1: You know, however we can make ends meet. And so
- 2:02:12Speaker 1: you know, he did a lot of um, he did
- 2:02:15Speaker 1: a lot of carpentry work because that's kind of where
- 2:02:17Speaker 1: he grew up, was in that that space and so
- 2:02:21Speaker 1: uh and so the reason that I ended up doing
- 2:02:24Speaker 1: a lot of the the editing and stuff like that
- 2:02:26Speaker 1: for videos UM was I had like we had sold
- 2:02:30Speaker 1: a house in um the house that my wife and
- 2:02:34Speaker 1: I bought when we first got married, and uh, we
- 2:02:37Speaker 1: took like everything I made off of that she worked
- 2:02:39Speaker 1: as a teacher, which is not a very good income,
- 2:02:41Speaker 1: but it's okay, you know, and then took all the
- 2:02:44Speaker 1: money that we made, which wasn't a bunch, and that's
- 2:02:47Speaker 1: what we lived on for the next few years while
- 2:02:49Speaker 1: I just edited every day. He didn't have a job,
- 2:02:51Speaker 1: and so like full transparency, you know, it feels like
- 2:02:56Speaker 1: he's going out and making money. I'm editing and not
- 2:02:59Speaker 1: making any money and keeping this thing afloat, and and
- 2:03:02Speaker 1: it's just a hard time right in like a business
- 2:03:04Speaker 1: owner of proprietor's life. And it was like just a struggle.
- 2:03:09Speaker 1: And so it came down like after the season where
- 2:03:12Speaker 1: I told my wife, I was like, I'm not I
- 2:03:16Speaker 1: would rather than lose a friend and be like angry
- 2:03:19Speaker 1: at him or him be angry at me and me
- 2:03:21Speaker 1: all have to make a passive aggressive statement or whatever.
- 2:03:24Speaker 1: I'd rather just say done with this, you know, and
- 2:03:27Speaker 1: finding find a decent job or whatever, you know, we
- 2:03:30Speaker 1: wanted to do at the time. And so I had
- 2:03:32Speaker 1: gotten to that point and that was like probably the
- 2:03:34Speaker 1: last one of the last times that he and I
- 2:03:36Speaker 1: had like a an argument. Yeah, And so when during
- 2:03:41Speaker 1: these years when you were being so like I I
- 2:03:44Speaker 1: appreciate all the elbow greef so like. I think it
- 2:03:46Speaker 1: like a principled existence where you're you were going to be.
- 2:03:49Speaker 1: You pursued music, you pursued you know, being an outdoor
- 2:03:53Speaker 1: media like stuff. That's hard. Did your wife ever was
- 2:03:56Speaker 1: shiver like listen, man, I heard the phone companies hiring.
- 2:04:00Speaker 1: There was definitely sometimes oh yeah, like towards probably she
- 2:04:06Speaker 1: was really like, I mean at this point, like I've
- 2:04:09Speaker 1: been out of college for ten or twelve years or
- 2:04:15Speaker 1: whatever it is. I can't even think about it right now,
- 2:04:17Speaker 1: but it's been a while, and and the whole time
- 2:04:19Speaker 1: we've lived very poor. Like I've sat with my hand
- 2:04:23Speaker 1: my head in my hands in the driveway thinking how
- 2:04:25Speaker 1: am I gonna pay for you know, five mortgage? And
- 2:04:29Speaker 1: I said, cheap mortgage, you know what I mean. We
- 2:04:31Speaker 1: had a little house, so I mean not a little house,
- 2:04:33Speaker 1: but at a cheap house that we bought in the recession.
- 2:04:36Speaker 1: And uh, it came it came down to where she
- 2:04:39Speaker 1: was like, listen, we got to put an ultimatum on
- 2:04:41Speaker 1: this thing, Like there's got to be a time where
- 2:04:43Speaker 1: you say, okay, you don't have to quit, but like
- 2:04:46Speaker 1: maybe time to get a more stable job, you know.
- 2:04:50Speaker 1: And I don't know if we ever came to a
- 2:04:54Speaker 1: date or terms with that. The season I think is whenever.
- 2:05:04Speaker 1: Like that was kind of the make or break year,
- 2:05:07Speaker 1: and you and I both had kind of make or
- 2:05:08Speaker 1: break experiences in the woods that kind of because I
- 2:05:11Speaker 1: was like, um, kind of excited about you taking that
- 2:05:16Speaker 1: job that we would take some of the heat off
- 2:05:17Speaker 1: of that situation. I was a newly with I forgot
- 2:05:20Speaker 1: I didn't even mention the job that I had when
- 2:05:22Speaker 1: the works and so like I had to work. My
- 2:05:25Speaker 1: wife met me before the element, so pretty much Tyler
- 2:05:29Speaker 1: video on my wedding, okay, So like that was like
- 2:05:31Speaker 1: kind of how it all started at the same time. Yeah,
- 2:05:35Speaker 1: a smoking deal. Um. So and like my wife is like,
- 2:05:39Speaker 1: hold on, this is not what I was like, you know, nuptualate,
- 2:05:43Speaker 1: innuptuating or whatever, you know. So uh um uh we
- 2:05:53Speaker 1: junglingly say you gotta thought with your wife. Sometimes, Um,
- 2:05:56Speaker 1: I'll just say I say that I'm not gonna I've
- 2:05:58Speaker 1: been there. We're married too. Wonderful women by the way,
- 2:06:01Speaker 1: Uh they're great. Um. But like in the year twenty
- 2:06:05Speaker 1: it was somewhat of a make or break year because
- 2:06:07Speaker 1: it was like, man, we've got a things are moving
- 2:06:10Speaker 1: slow as far as like element stuff goes. I got
- 2:06:13Speaker 1: I'm trying to put my wife through grad school. You're working,
- 2:06:17Speaker 1: you know, doing editing pretty much full time. Caylee is
- 2:06:20Speaker 1: you know, uh, the one income on your end, and
- 2:06:24Speaker 1: like we're like, man, what do we do? And then
- 2:06:26Speaker 1: we kill some deer that year and like it was like, man,
- 2:06:30Speaker 1: we can actually do this. So it's self filming too.
- 2:06:33Speaker 1: This is we had got an intern that year and
- 2:06:36Speaker 1: he washed out before November got here, and so it's like, gosh,
- 2:06:40Speaker 1: you know, what are we gonna do? So we end
- 2:06:42Speaker 1: up to self filming ourselves a like that year, put
- 2:06:44Speaker 1: some things together and then man, it was a good year.
- 2:06:47Speaker 1: It's a good year. It's kind of it was kind
- 2:06:49Speaker 1: of like I had a job, so I was actually
- 2:06:52Speaker 1: with my church was trying to hire me to like
- 2:06:54Speaker 1: lead the music portion of the services, you know, yeah
- 2:06:57Speaker 1: and do and do a church podcast and that kind
- 2:06:59Speaker 1: of you know. So uh my wife is like, yes,
- 2:07:03Speaker 1: he'll do it, you know, and I'm like, I'm like
- 2:07:08Speaker 1: pretty much. I was like, man, I don't know, like
- 2:07:11Speaker 1: things are going okay, you know. And then I killed
- 2:07:14Speaker 1: five bucks a year and it was three of them
- 2:07:17Speaker 1: were like wall hangers, I mean, big year, you know.
- 2:07:19Speaker 1: And uh, I remember that my church kind of gave
- 2:07:23Speaker 1: me this, like, uh hey, by the end of November,
- 2:07:25Speaker 1: can you let us know something, you know, where you
- 2:07:27Speaker 1: gonna do this? I had. I had already been basically
- 2:07:29Speaker 1: starting in COVID like that's when I started leading the
- 2:07:32Speaker 1: music stuff there and I was just doing it as
- 2:07:35Speaker 1: like an interim, you know, and uh they wanted me
- 2:07:38Speaker 1: to continue, and I told him. I was like, oh yeah,
- 2:07:40Speaker 1: I guess I was hoping we could get through the
- 2:07:42Speaker 1: season and see how the Element is doing it, you know,
- 2:07:44Speaker 1: in January or something, and uh so, but they wanted
- 2:07:47Speaker 1: to do it by December. So I literally killed my
- 2:07:50Speaker 1: fourth buck on November and it it's the video. We
- 2:07:54Speaker 1: just reached a million views on that video. But it's
- 2:07:56Speaker 1: our you know, biggest deer video, I guess you could say.
- 2:08:00Speaker 1: And when I killed that buck, I was pretty much
- 2:08:02Speaker 1: like I found that as a sign as I should
- 2:08:05Speaker 1: probably decline that job and kind of do the Element thing,
- 2:08:08Speaker 1: you know. Yeah. Yeah, So and then killed another deer
- 2:08:12Speaker 1: at the end of December that is like our second
- 2:08:14Speaker 1: biggest video. So we had a pretty good talk on
- 2:08:18Speaker 1: Cyculotyer on November twenty three that year, and uh, we
- 2:08:21Speaker 1: were both driving back in separate vehicles and we had
- 2:08:24Speaker 1: a pretty good talk that was kind of like, you
- 2:08:25Speaker 1: know what, let's just go and just do this thing,
- 2:08:28Speaker 1: you know, and which again cliche, but you know, that
- 2:08:32Speaker 1: was like, we can we can make this happen with
- 2:08:34Speaker 1: hard work. If we continue this on you know, um,
- 2:08:37Speaker 1: we'll have some doors open up. And if not, you know,
- 2:08:39Speaker 1: we can still scrape it together and make it work.
- 2:08:41Speaker 1: And well, yeah, we're scrappy. Yeah, that's a that's a
- 2:08:45Speaker 1: that goes you know, I gotta gotta be scrappy to
- 2:08:48Speaker 1: kill deer, that's right. Yeah, you guys got Michigan elbow
- 2:08:50Speaker 1: grease all we're done in Texas. Yeah up, well guys,
- 2:09:00Speaker 1: we're running out of tanks. We gotta do the trivia
- 2:09:02Speaker 1: show Man. We'll tell people what you got coming because
- 2:09:04Speaker 1: now you now you're you got some stuff that's gonna
- 2:09:06Speaker 1: come out on Meat Eator's channels. You got some stuff
- 2:09:09Speaker 1: that's coming on in your own channels. Yeah, I appreciate that.
- 2:09:11Speaker 1: So um we uh, at the end of the year one,
- 2:09:15Speaker 1: I shot a deal on public ground in Oklahoma, and uh,
- 2:09:18Speaker 1: well to back it up, there was a nickname being
- 2:09:21Speaker 1: thrown around that year of the buck truck, the truck
- 2:09:23Speaker 1: I was in. You could chuck joking around. It seemed
- 2:09:26Speaker 1: to be that there were bucks around when that truck
- 2:09:28Speaker 1: would show up, you know, his truck. He got COVID
- 2:09:32Speaker 1: in South Dakota in a tent, you know, and so
- 2:09:35Speaker 1: with a bunch of other guys. Well, we also have
- 2:09:38Speaker 1: another guy on the team that uh, he's not a
- 2:09:41Speaker 1: morning person, so he doesn't get up and hunt in
- 2:09:43Speaker 1: the morning. Sometimes. Well, they were buddies, you know, riding
- 2:09:46Speaker 1: around the truck in the mornings because he you know,
- 2:09:48Speaker 1: he was hacking all night. Just felt terrible. So they
- 2:09:50Speaker 1: get up, you know about sun sunrise, and go sea
- 2:09:53Speaker 1: bucks out of the truck. So they started bragging on
- 2:09:55Speaker 1: themselves about how they were the buck truck truck and
- 2:09:59Speaker 1: all the kid we're in the woods plays music, yeah,
- 2:10:04Speaker 1: actually ground calls come out of Yeah. But then uh,
- 2:10:09Speaker 1: Tyler and I teamed up at the end of that
- 2:10:10Speaker 1: season in one and killed that deer on public ground
- 2:10:14Speaker 1: in texts, I mean in Oklahoma, and uh, the buck
- 2:10:16Speaker 1: truck like really was cemented. Then was like, hey, this
- 2:10:19Speaker 1: is a thing. So we decided to maybe put a
- 2:10:21Speaker 1: little effort into it and have a little bit more
- 2:10:23Speaker 1: direction with that. So we're gonna have a series that
- 2:10:26Speaker 1: comes out this May, I believe, called The Buck Truck,
- 2:10:29Speaker 1: where it's just you know, two best friends traveling in
- 2:10:32Speaker 1: the country hunting deer and you're just watching the buck
- 2:10:34Speaker 1: Truck and you guys like, could hear each other shooting? Yeah,
- 2:10:40Speaker 1: that's pretty sick. Yeah, it's funny when he realized some
- 2:10:47Speaker 1: of that heard his buddy shooting arrow. That's some small parcelo. Man.
- 2:10:53Speaker 1: It was. We were in tight quarters of both shot
- 2:10:55Speaker 1: and nice bucks. It was kind of kind of man,
- 2:10:58Speaker 1: crazy things happen whenever you go out there and actually
- 2:11:00Speaker 1: put some effort into it. And so I always like
- 2:11:02Speaker 1: to say, man, it's great coverage. Yeah. Yeah, our guys
- 2:11:06Speaker 1: did a killer job. That was the first. That was
- 2:11:08Speaker 1: the first one of those episodes that we did too,
- 2:11:11Speaker 1: so the camera work gets better throughout. We did. We
- 2:11:14Speaker 1: had really good deer footage. We did seven episodes. It's
- 2:11:17Speaker 1: not like, oh, if you look real carefully, you kind
- 2:11:18Speaker 1: of see you deer. It's like good, Yeah, they kill
- 2:11:22Speaker 1: it they eyelashes never, that's right. So uh yeah. I
- 2:11:27Speaker 1: always like to say you've got to give amazing a
- 2:11:29Speaker 1: chance to happen. And that's kind of what we did
- 2:11:31Speaker 1: that not you know, two guys set up eight yards
- 2:11:34Speaker 1: from each other, kind of on a I don't know,
- 2:11:37Speaker 1: tough hunt. It's kind of hot, you know, late September smoke,
- 2:11:40Speaker 1: couple deer, you know, eight pizza back country bag them out.
- 2:11:46Speaker 1: When you have a bunch of camera guys, you tell
- 2:11:47Speaker 1: the one of them to bring a pizza a mile
- 2:11:48Speaker 1: back into the woods, you know, eight them and didn't
- 2:11:52Speaker 1: work on your deer. Nothing like a three thirty uh a,
- 2:11:56Speaker 1: m you know, bead roll. That was good. You know
- 2:11:58Speaker 1: those those nights are sure you appreciate them. It's memories. Yeah, yeah,
- 2:12:03Speaker 1: you got some with Claylor recently. Yeah, that's on that series. Yeah,
- 2:12:07Speaker 1: so that'll that'll release in May as well. Thinking, Yeah,
- 2:12:10Speaker 1: it's we're in Arkansas. They're a bunch of boating around.
- 2:12:12Speaker 1: It's cool, not swearing exactly. A bunch of America's last
- 2:12:22Speaker 1: three non swear to throw Spanish at Clay because he
- 2:12:26Speaker 1: tries to play along with it, you know a little bit. Yeah,
- 2:12:31Speaker 1: I'm from South yeah, so's I love Yeah, good dude.
- 2:12:37Speaker 1: Al Right, guys, so everybody check them out at just
- 2:12:41Speaker 1: type in the Element, yeah yeah, type in media or
- 2:12:44Speaker 1: the Element. Type in the Element. You'll find him. You guys,
- 2:12:46Speaker 1: you give all your social media handles too, So see
- 2:12:49Speaker 1: Element Wild a lot of times where you'll see to
- 2:12:51Speaker 1: the Element podcast depending, um that's gonna be where you
- 2:12:54Speaker 1: find us at on you know, a hard Apple all
- 2:12:56Speaker 1: that to podcast exactly and then the YouTube channels called
- 2:12:59Speaker 1: the Element and the Element podcast gets pretty heavy into
- 2:13:01Speaker 1: white tails y. Yeah, yeah, it's uh, it's still kind
- 2:13:04Speaker 1: of has that Element vibe of like, you know, the
- 2:13:06Speaker 1: seasonal thing or whatever. We actually just did a pretty
- 2:13:09Speaker 1: pretty cool podcast about access hunting in Texas because it's
- 2:13:12Speaker 1: uh kind of did it a little bit of deep
- 2:13:14Speaker 1: dive into you know the history of that and that
- 2:13:16Speaker 1: sort of thing. So you know it'll be a little
- 2:13:17Speaker 1: bit seasonal, but always some white tail stuff for sure.
- 2:13:21Speaker 1: And uh, the meat eater dot Com you find all
- 2:13:23Speaker 1: Jordan's Stiller's writing, the gun battles, beaver battles, beaver battles,
- 2:13:29Speaker 1: color battles, and if you're looking at something that looks
- 2:13:32Speaker 1: like someone designed, it's probably hunter spencer. Yeah. Yeah, and
- 2:13:37Speaker 1: the shirt will be out, the milk and shirt. Yeah.
- 2:13:42Speaker 1: Can we auto with Born for a time and can
- 2:13:45Speaker 1: you just like maybe give give us a little spiel?
- 2:13:49Speaker 1: Thank you for that. I would love to do that.
- 2:13:51Speaker 1: Um I, so this is The Food Fighters are my
- 2:13:55Speaker 1: favorite band. Um, sorry I mnna interrupt you. I listened
- 2:13:59Speaker 1: to your track a couple of days ago and Cran
- 2:14:01Speaker 1: sent it to me and I was like, this sounds
- 2:14:02Speaker 1: like the Food Fighters. Well, thank you, Yeah, that's what
- 2:14:05Speaker 1: I was aiming. Oh, thank you. I Uh, I just
- 2:14:09Speaker 1: feel old and washed really, but uh, basically, when their drummer,
- 2:14:14Speaker 1: Taylor Hawkins died recently, um, I kind of I don't know,
- 2:14:19Speaker 1: it's a very weird. It's very weird way that I
- 2:14:21Speaker 1: wrote this song. I feel like it's not like a
- 2:14:23Speaker 1: very typical and sometimes I think what gets me into
- 2:14:27Speaker 1: trouble is that like creativity. I want this creativity and
- 2:14:31Speaker 1: it's not super digestible by most people. And so but
- 2:14:35Speaker 1: I don't care anymore because I'm not trying to make
- 2:14:37Speaker 1: money off of music, you know, and so um I
- 2:14:40Speaker 1: wrote this song basically it's almost like uh, my perceived
- 2:14:44Speaker 1: relationship of Dave and Taylor, who are like best friends
- 2:14:46Speaker 1: in the band together, and but I'm like speaking towards
- 2:14:50Speaker 1: Dave as like, hey, this is a terrible thing that happened,
- 2:14:55Speaker 1: but you also have like a big platform and an
- 2:14:58Speaker 1: opportunity to say something to the world here, you know,
- 2:15:01Speaker 1: like and basically taking esther four fourteen saying like you
- 2:15:07Speaker 1: were born for a time to do something very powerful,
- 2:15:10Speaker 1: and maybe this is that time. So that's why I
- 2:15:12Speaker 1: wrote a song. Is the hook line is maybe you're
- 2:15:16Speaker 1: born for a time such as this. Oh it's great, man.
- 2:15:19Speaker 1: I listened to the tune. I liked it. Thanks, man.
- 2:15:22Speaker 1: I was surprised where I don't look like very good
- 2:15:25Speaker 1: at things do I no, no, no, I don't mean
- 2:15:29Speaker 1: surprised by it being good. I just I was surprised
- 2:15:33Speaker 1: by um because it didn't sound like country. Yeah. I
- 2:15:36Speaker 1: was expecting more, you know, I thought it would be
- 2:15:40Speaker 1: more what what most people would identify to be more
- 2:15:44Speaker 1: like leaning in the country genre. We definitely have UM
- 2:15:50Speaker 1: the sense we have stopped like touring and pursuing a
- 2:15:54Speaker 1: career in music. We've basically just don't what we wanted
- 2:15:56Speaker 1: to do and stopped worrying about like what people would like.
- 2:16:00Speaker 1: So it's way more fun. Just make make tunes you
- 2:16:04Speaker 1: like and don't worry about what bucket it's in. Yeah, alright,
- 2:16:07Speaker 1: we're gonna kick off. We're gonna end off with it.
- 2:16:09Speaker 1: Thanks man. So find these boys at the Element, Element
