- 0:05Speaker 1: Welcome back to Cardinal Territory. I'm your host, Katie wu
- 0:08Speaker 1: here with a very special guest. Miles Michaelis is our
- 0:11Speaker 1: player interview today. We are recording on Monday, April fourteenth,
- 0:14Speaker 1: but you are seeing this on Wednesday, April sixteenth. Miles
- 0:18Speaker 1: one of my personal faves. Always great to see you.
- 0:20Speaker 1: Thank you so much for doing this today.
- 0:22Speaker 2: Thanks for having me on a little a little bit
- 0:25Speaker 2: of free time before I head into the field.
- 0:26Speaker 3: So I thought this would be this would be.
- 0:28Speaker 4: Fun, Yeah, I think so let's just go right into it.
- 0:32Speaker 1: Your fresh off a bounce back start, five innings, three
- 0:35Speaker 1: year in runs, and we've talked to like all spring
- 0:38Speaker 1: and early season about the things that you're doing differently
- 0:41Speaker 1: this year in terms of sequencing and essentially sounds weird
- 0:45Speaker 1: not throwing as many strikes. Is that a difficult concept
- 0:49Speaker 1: for you to fathom at first?
- 0:52Speaker 2: Maybe a little bit, because you know, I grew up
- 0:55Speaker 2: watching baseball a certain way and like reading certain you know,
- 1:00Speaker 2: I had, you know, when I was in middle school,
- 1:02Speaker 2: in high school, I had all the pitching books, you know,
- 1:05Speaker 2: the Leo Mazzoni and the Noan Ryan Pitcher's Bible and
- 1:08Speaker 2: all those things, and even in some of those books,
- 1:12Speaker 2: like they talk about like those two one to two counts,
- 1:14Speaker 2: you know, hitters are vulnerable. Hitters are vulnerable. A lot
- 1:18Speaker 2: of guys are just trying to put the ball in play.
- 1:20Speaker 2: And you can throw a quality pitch fairly close or
- 1:23Speaker 2: in the strike zone on the edges, and you know,
- 1:26Speaker 2: I feel like.
- 1:27Speaker 3: The hitters approach. Guys used to not like to strike out.
- 1:30Speaker 2: So you saw a lot of like just oh, I
- 1:32Speaker 2: want to put it in play kind of some of
- 1:34Speaker 2: the two strikes, guys just trying not to strike out.
- 1:37Speaker 3: And if you're nibbling at the edges.
- 1:38Speaker 5: Of the zone and throwing strikes in those counts and
- 1:42Speaker 5: the guy hitting has that mentality, you know, you're throwing
- 1:45Speaker 5: quality pitches, quality strikes, and he's popping up and he's
- 1:48Speaker 5: grabbing out and rolling over.
- 1:50Speaker 2: But the way the game has changed, the way they
- 1:53Speaker 2: with analytics and they value guys and they value players,
- 1:57Speaker 2: guys don't have like a two. A lot of players
- 2:00Speaker 2: don't have this two strike. I don't want to strike out,
- 2:03Speaker 2: like check swing. There's a handful of guys, we know
- 2:05Speaker 2: who they are. You know, they back it up with
- 2:07Speaker 2: two strikes. You're just trying to sheet stuff, you know,
- 2:09Speaker 2: down the first baseline, stand alive waist and pitches. But
- 2:12Speaker 2: most guys are still trying to get off their a
- 2:15Speaker 2: or you know as type swings even with two strikes,
- 2:19Speaker 2: you know, trying to do damage and stuff like that.
- 2:21Speaker 2: So all of a sudden, throwing pitches that are you know,
- 2:24Speaker 2: anywhere close to the zone.
- 2:27Speaker 3: It's it's almost like not even worth it.
- 2:30Speaker 2: So so like for the philosophies and things to change
- 2:34Speaker 2: is different. It's also interesting to be around the game
- 2:37Speaker 2: long enough to see those those shifts. And you know,
- 2:42Speaker 2: I've you know, drafted an nine you know, minor leagues
- 2:47Speaker 2: debut in twelve, so it's been you know, thirteen years
- 2:51Speaker 2: since my big league debut and I had my little
- 2:54Speaker 2: Japanese hiatus, and this is my ninth here.
- 2:57Speaker 3: In the league.
- 2:57Speaker 2: But I can only imagine the the changes that you know,
- 3:01Speaker 2: the guys before me, like Wainwright and YACHTI saw from
- 3:04Speaker 2: you know, two thousand and six, you know to two
- 3:06Speaker 2: thousand and twenty five, how much the game change. So
- 3:09Speaker 2: it's an interesting thing to be a part of something
- 3:11Speaker 2: I kind of embrace a little bit.
- 3:14Speaker 1: Yeah, And that's a great point. I mean, it's it's
- 3:16Speaker 1: hard to stay in this league. It's hard to return
- 3:18Speaker 1: to this league after some hiatuses if you will. Yeah,
- 3:22Speaker 1: I think what what people forget is like the longevity
- 3:25Speaker 1: of this league says something about who you are as
- 3:27Speaker 1: a pitcher and what you do. And it's adaptability that
- 3:31Speaker 1: keeps you in this game. It can be really hard
- 3:33Speaker 1: to tell a picture. Hey, you need to stop throwing strikes,
- 3:34Speaker 1: which I know is not exactly crazy, but to simplify.
- 3:37Speaker 2: It, and and it's it's not to say I'm not
- 3:41Speaker 2: throwing strikes, but I would rather have swinging strikes then
- 3:47Speaker 2: because a lot of guys also aren't looking anymore. They're
- 3:50Speaker 2: not they're not you know, anything close. Let a rip
- 3:55Speaker 2: kid as opposed to this, like you know, and there's
- 3:58Speaker 2: there's older guys. There's older guys where you can throw
- 4:01Speaker 2: that like O two fastball like down and away for
- 4:04Speaker 2: the zone and they'll just get it to you.
- 4:06Speaker 3: They're like, that's not my pitch. I'll give it to you.
- 4:09Speaker 2: And but but the majority of the league is you know,
- 4:12Speaker 2: if it's close, I'm swinging.
- 4:15Speaker 3: So all you have to do is like be close.
- 4:17Speaker 2: You know, guys are on guys are on green from
- 4:20Speaker 2: from the get go.
- 4:23Speaker 3: As a majority, I think.
- 4:25Speaker 1: So, how do you incorporate what this new style? It's
- 4:28Speaker 1: not like a necessarily new style of pitch. And we
- 4:30Speaker 1: talked about this on Saturday, Like you've had swing and
- 4:32Speaker 1: missing your game before.
- 4:33Speaker 4: It's just finding a different way to get there.
- 4:35Speaker 2: Yeah, and then and it's it's you know, with it's
- 4:40Speaker 2: another shift in the game, right, because.
- 4:44Speaker 3: It it all works together.
- 4:46Speaker 2: Right, So if I want to throw, you know, I
- 4:49Speaker 2: want to throw seven innings.
- 4:50Speaker 3: I want to throw nine inn's. I wanna go the
- 4:51Speaker 3: whole game.
- 4:52Speaker 2: They're not gonna let me throw one hundred and twenty
- 4:55Speaker 2: pitches unless it's like a no hitter, right, They're gonna
- 4:58Speaker 2: let you get two hundred like almost wherever that is
- 5:01Speaker 2: five innings, six innings, seven innings. If you're getting past
- 5:04Speaker 2: one hundred pitches, it's like a complete game shutout. Or
- 5:08Speaker 2: you know, you're the ace, and it's the playoffs, even
- 5:10Speaker 2: the ace in the playoffs guys getting pulled after one
- 5:13Speaker 2: hundred pitches because bullpens are so stacked. I mean the
- 5:16Speaker 2: you know you've got guys coming in the sixth seventh inning,
- 5:19Speaker 2: throw ninety seven ninety eight.
- 5:20Speaker 3: Hundred miles an hour. On some teams and it's like, sure, I'll.
- 5:24Speaker 2: Get through five or six innings on one hundred pitches, Like,
- 5:28Speaker 2: you know, do you have to be happy with that?
- 5:32Speaker 3: Now?
- 5:32Speaker 2: I mean, when I came back in twenty eighteen, you know,
- 5:37Speaker 2: blessed with having a guy like Wano on the staff
- 5:40Speaker 2: and he's got all his one liners. You gotta go seven,
- 5:43Speaker 2: you know, if you want the win, you gotta go seven.
- 5:45Speaker 2: Like that's the mindset. And he came up in the
- 5:47Speaker 2: early two thousands, mid mid you know, two thousand and six, seven,
- 5:51Speaker 2: eight nine, and there was that man tity like you're
- 5:54Speaker 2: going seven innings regard, and that was almost like regardless
- 5:58Speaker 2: of how many pitches you're throwing, youre going seven hundred
- 6:01Speaker 2: and hundred, ten hundred and twenty. They were just letting
- 6:03Speaker 2: dudes go. With the injuries and stuff and all the
- 6:06Speaker 2: information that they're having and the way that they're you know,
- 6:08Speaker 2: going about it with everyone you know, doing what they're doing.
- 6:12Speaker 2: You know that's changed and you just don't see it
- 6:16Speaker 2: as much. And it's you know, if I want to
- 6:19Speaker 2: throw one hundred pitches, like I sidetracked back to my
- 6:22Speaker 2: oriosal point, if I want to get seven at d's and.
- 6:24Speaker 3: I only have one hundred pitches. I have to get
- 6:26Speaker 3: some quick outs. I need contact.
- 6:29Speaker 2: And if I get a guy oh two, waste one
- 6:32Speaker 2: in the dirt, that's one two. Maybe he'll chase a
- 6:35Speaker 2: fastball up. Now it's two to two.
- 6:37Speaker 3: Now it's you know, now he's battling. I'm battling. Now
- 6:40Speaker 3: I have to finish get that.
- 6:41Speaker 2: So maybe I'm throwing something on the corners and he
- 6:44Speaker 2: fouls one or two off, and then maybe he takes
- 6:46Speaker 2: a closed pitch and all of a sudden, I went
- 6:48Speaker 2: from O two and now it's full count and I've thrown.
- 6:51Speaker 3: Seven pitches chasing a strikeout.
- 6:54Speaker 2: Now I have to throw something where he's got weak contact,
- 6:57Speaker 2: or maybe he strikes out looking finally, or or he
- 7:00Speaker 2: just he doesn't want to walk.
- 7:01Speaker 3: He wants to hit so bad.
- 7:03Speaker 2: I throw like a slaughter in the dirty, swings at it,
- 7:05Speaker 2: maybe they get the strikeout, maybe.
- 7:07Speaker 3: He grounds out pop up gets a hit.
- 7:09Speaker 2: But either way, I've not seven or eight pitches when
- 7:12Speaker 2: before I was like, oh two, Oh, I'll throw like
- 7:14Speaker 2: a little curveball down the way.
- 7:16Speaker 3: Maybe in the strike zone he's off balance.
- 7:18Speaker 2: Maybe I sequence it right, and here's like my chopper
- 7:21Speaker 2: to short there's an out in three pitches.
- 7:23Speaker 3: I love that.
- 7:25Speaker 2: There's a time for that, and there's a time for
- 7:27Speaker 2: not that guy on third base, guy on second base,
- 7:31Speaker 2: two outs, go for the strikeout.
- 7:33Speaker 3: Don't let him put it in play, don't let him
- 7:34Speaker 3: bloop it.
- 7:35Speaker 2: So I think there's there there is a whole nuance
- 7:39Speaker 2: to it as a whole picture, like am I chasing
- 7:41Speaker 2: strikeouts from the get go?
- 7:43Speaker 3: Yes, I'd love to strike out everyone.
- 7:45Speaker 2: Every picture would say that I'd love to strike out everybody.
- 7:49Speaker 3: But that's not always the case.
- 7:53Speaker 2: And you know, you see guys rack up pitch counts
- 7:57Speaker 2: quick now because it's six or seven pitches to everybody
- 8:01Speaker 2: and he strikes out or walks or you know, gets
- 8:04Speaker 2: to full counter to two before the guy rolls over.
- 8:06Speaker 3: Or pops up.
- 8:09Speaker 4: Yeah, that's a good point.
- 8:09Speaker 3: And it was like everything, it's like everything compounds and
- 8:14Speaker 3: it's where do you want to be?
- 8:16Speaker 2: I want to throw so many innings, But if I'm
- 8:18Speaker 2: giving up runs early because I'm trying to do things
- 8:22Speaker 2: on less pitches, well I'm never going to get to
- 8:24Speaker 2: the six inning.
- 8:24Speaker 3: Anyway, because I gave up a couple of runs. And
- 8:27Speaker 3: now the bullpens in the.
- 8:28Speaker 2: Game because the game's tight, it's a one run game,
- 8:31Speaker 2: as opposed to I got through five innings, great, Like,
- 8:36Speaker 2: you know, am I happy with that seven six years ago?
- 8:41Speaker 3: No, because I want to go seven.
- 8:42Speaker 2: Because everyone, you know, everyone wants to throw two hundred innings,
- 8:47Speaker 2: you know, or more like you want to be a workhorse.
- 8:49Speaker 3: But what what teams are looking for.
- 8:53Speaker 2: That's that's more rare, and that's like more you know,
- 8:57Speaker 2: more difficult than ever to to hit, you know, numbers
- 9:02Speaker 2: like that. Teams are almost really just looking for you know,
- 9:06Speaker 2: they would love us six or seven innings. But if
- 9:08Speaker 2: you give them five innings or six innings of you know,
- 9:11Speaker 2: one two, three run ball and they can get the
- 9:13Speaker 2: bullpen involved and hope the offense clicks. You know, analytics
- 9:17Speaker 2: are saying like that's great and it and you know,
- 9:18Speaker 2: maybe it comes at the expense of you know, bullpen,
- 9:21Speaker 2: like using more bullpen, you know, bullpen arms and stuff
- 9:24Speaker 2: like that.
- 9:26Speaker 3: But you know, the what what teams want, I think
- 9:29Speaker 3: is is even changing.
- 9:30Speaker 2: I think that's some of the the overall issue with
- 9:33Speaker 2: with baseball.
- 9:35Speaker 1: Yeah, I think that's I think you're spot on, because
- 9:36Speaker 1: this is not like you know, when I was growing up,
- 9:39Speaker 1: if you will, in high school and watching guys Adam's
- 9:41Speaker 1: gonna hate this, And I was watching Adam Wyne right
- 9:42Speaker 1: in high school.
- 9:44Speaker 2: It was so was I in high school.
- 9:47Speaker 3: So was I.
- 9:48Speaker 4: There we go, see I'm not as bad.
- 9:50Speaker 1: It'd be seven innings, and now you're seeing more of
- 9:52Speaker 1: the five and dive is considered a good start because
- 9:55Speaker 1: there are It used to.
- 9:56Speaker 3: Be five and dive. It's not five and dive anymore.
- 9:58Speaker 3: It's like pat him on the back though.
- 10:00Speaker 2: Yeah, it's like if you went five innings with maybe
- 10:04Speaker 2: even like eight strikeouts that threw one hundred pitches. Now,
- 10:09Speaker 2: guys in the mid two thousands would have been like, man,
- 10:12Speaker 2: five innings, they said, hey, those strikeouts are great.
- 10:14Speaker 3: I like it.
- 10:15Speaker 2: I gave up to five innings. You know, it's you know,
- 10:18Speaker 2: you give your team a chance, is your starting pitcher,
- 10:21Speaker 2: keep your team in the game as long as you can,
- 10:23Speaker 2: and ideally save the bullpen from getting you know it
- 10:29Speaker 2: emptied out ideally, But yeah, it's things change.
- 10:36Speaker 4: Times are changing.
- 10:37Speaker 1: I want to get into a little bit about where
- 10:39Speaker 1: you're at physically right now, how do you feel you're pitching.
- 10:42Speaker 1: But first we got to do our first abbag of
- 10:44Speaker 1: the day. So let's hear from our friends at PHG AJ.
- 10:47Speaker 6: It is time for people to get some new clubs,
- 10:49Speaker 6: and to do that they need to go to their
- 10:51Speaker 6: local PXG for a fitting, right.
- 10:53Speaker 7: No doubt. I was there today, I've been there before.
- 10:56Speaker 7: Last time I was there, they gave me this killer gap.
- 10:58Speaker 7: You look at that sweet spot, Scott is worn out.
- 11:00Speaker 7: That is right in the sweet spot right there. So
- 11:02Speaker 7: I went and got new clubs today, new irons. But
- 11:05Speaker 7: more importantly, I got this bad boy. I got me
- 11:07Speaker 7: a new putter. This is my old putter. It's on order. Yes,
- 11:09Speaker 7: that's my putter cover PXG Mustang putter. Now I'm going
- 11:12Speaker 7: to the Allen putter. They talked me into it because
- 11:13Speaker 7: I was draining some putts today. Bob, the guy who
- 11:16Speaker 7: helped me out. He helped me with my irons. You
- 11:18Speaker 7: got them teed up perfectly. But then we went to
- 11:21Speaker 7: the putting green. I was draining them putts because that's
- 11:23Speaker 7: the most important part of golf.
- 11:24Speaker 6: PXG fittings are fun. Schedule you're fitting today, as you
- 11:28Speaker 6: can hear from AJ for a limited time, you could
- 11:30Speaker 6: save up to twenty percent on your entire order. Head
- 11:33Speaker 6: over to pxg dot com slash foul. That's pxg dot
- 11:37Speaker 6: com slash foul to save up to twenty percent on
- 11:39Speaker 6: your entire order. Pxg dot com slash foul restrictions apply
- 11:44Speaker 6: see site for details.
- 11:47Speaker 1: Perfect segue. Because you're a golf guy, but only during
- 11:50Speaker 1: the season. Correct, you don't golf in the off season?
- 11:52Speaker 3: Yeah, I you know, you only have I tell people
- 11:55Speaker 3: a lot.
- 11:55Speaker 2: You have time for, like one hobby in the off season,
- 11:59Speaker 2: even less than maybe a half a hobby if you
- 12:02Speaker 2: have a family in the off season. So my off
- 12:04Speaker 2: season hobby is fishing, but my end season hobby is
- 12:07Speaker 2: mostly golf because it's harder to find places to fish,
- 12:11Speaker 2: you know, when you're bouncing across the country.
- 12:15Speaker 1: Okay, so who's your like go to teammate that you
- 12:18Speaker 1: play with? Do you have an ideal foursome? Like, what's
- 12:21Speaker 1: your ideal golf day on the road?
- 12:25Speaker 2: You know, ideally I like to get up early. My
- 12:29Speaker 2: most ideal golf on the road ever, has I think been?
- 12:32Speaker 2: We're playing Texas and the hotel we say it has
- 12:37Speaker 2: a golf course on premise. Yeah, so like you just
- 12:39Speaker 2: wake up, you know, eat breakfast and go downstairs or
- 12:43Speaker 2: even just go play around the golf at eight o'clock,
- 12:46Speaker 2: be the first one out, and I'm the first one
- 12:48Speaker 2: in at like ten thirty. And I need a late
- 12:50Speaker 2: breakfast and not have to go anywhere. But I like
- 12:54Speaker 2: to get up, get out early, it's not too hot,
- 12:56Speaker 2: and played a lot of golf in summer. Get it early,
- 12:58Speaker 2: it's not too hot. And you know, the the foursome
- 13:02Speaker 2: has changed over the years. From when I got here,
- 13:06Speaker 2: I had the pleasure of playing with guys like Adam Is,
- 13:09Speaker 2: a tremendous golfer, Bud Norris one of the better golfers
- 13:12Speaker 2: I've ever played with, you know, Holland Waka Long. I mean,
- 13:19Speaker 2: we had we had some good some good golf groups
- 13:22Speaker 2: in the past.
- 13:24Speaker 3: And now it's a little bit different.
- 13:26Speaker 2: There's not as many golfers, but people are willing to
- 13:30Speaker 2: go golfing. Andre Is is like learning to golf, so
- 13:34Speaker 2: he's fine golfing. He's fun to take golfing. You know,
- 13:39Speaker 2: Hellsley is getting better at golf. If it's an off day,
- 13:43Speaker 2: the position players will get involved. Not as a great golfer, Sonny.
- 13:49Speaker 2: I think of the guys I know that will beat
- 13:51Speaker 2: me on a golf course. It's probably like Sonny and Aeronauta.
- 13:55Speaker 1: Oh.
- 13:55Speaker 4: I was not familiar with Sonny's game.
- 13:57Speaker 1: I knew Nolan was good, sometimes good and really good golfer.
- 14:02Speaker 4: I do not notice about Sunny.
- 14:03Speaker 3: Sunny is a.
- 14:04Speaker 2: Really good golfer. Steven Mattz can hit the golf ball
- 14:09Speaker 2: like a country mile. He got three homers in the show.
- 14:12Speaker 2: He swings right handed. And we golf the other day
- 14:15Speaker 2: and I was like, hey, man, if if you approached
- 14:17Speaker 2: golfing like your bullpen, you know you might be He's like,
- 14:21Speaker 2: He's like, no, man, I see that bass sitting there
- 14:22Speaker 2: on the team.
- 14:23Speaker 3: I just got to smash it. I'm like, all right,
- 14:25Speaker 3: I like that. I like that style.
- 14:27Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm that way most of the time.
- 14:30Speaker 2: But if my score gets two out of hand, I
- 14:32Speaker 2: try to try to rein it in a little bit.
- 14:35Speaker 2: But we've got some good golfers. Everyone will golf a
- 14:37Speaker 2: little bit. Lars Siani, you know some other guys I
- 14:42Speaker 2: haven't golf with. Lebby said he's pretty good at golf.
- 14:44Speaker 2: I need to get him on the golf course. That
- 14:48Speaker 2: would be fun. I just being outside. You you know,
- 14:51Speaker 2: you wake up on the road. Some places are tough.
- 14:53Speaker 2: We're gonna run up in the Mets in a couple
- 14:55Speaker 2: of days. That's a tough You know, you're in the city.
- 14:58Speaker 2: If you're gonna play golf, it's like take me an.
- 15:01Speaker 3: Hour to get there. You gotta get It's tough.
- 15:06Speaker 2: You must have to if you're gonna play golf in
- 15:08Speaker 2: New York, you have to really like go out out
- 15:09Speaker 2: of Long Island and you and then just hit City
- 15:13Speaker 2: Field on your way back in and then just take
- 15:15Speaker 2: everything back with the bus at night.
- 15:18Speaker 1: Before except I left my clubs at the friend. I
- 15:21Speaker 1: went out to Saint Long Island. I'm not bringing my
- 15:23Speaker 1: clubs to the press box on the subway, Are you
- 15:25Speaker 1: kidding me?
- 15:27Speaker 4: It was I was linked to work.
- 15:30Speaker 3: It was fun though, Yeah, and we got yeah.
- 15:35Speaker 2: And then I think Sunny has has some really nice
- 15:37Speaker 2: golf line up for us in Atlanta, so I'm excited
- 15:40Speaker 2: about that.
- 15:43Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 15:43Speaker 2: It's like I said, I'd rather I'd rather be outside.
- 15:47Speaker 2: And every once in a while I'll go on like
- 15:49Speaker 2: golf now and just whatever course I can get it's close,
- 15:52Speaker 2: if it's a dog track, if it's.
- 15:54Speaker 3: Nice not nice, I don't really care. Sometimes I show
- 15:56Speaker 3: up and I have someone with me. It's just like
- 15:59Speaker 3: I got like the random Yeah, who was it?
- 16:03Speaker 2: It was like last year and it was the you know,
- 16:06Speaker 2: the like the sixty five year old guy who plays
- 16:07Speaker 2: the course like every Wednesday for like the last twenty years,
- 16:12Speaker 2: and he's got the first tea time out and he
- 16:14Speaker 2: goes off by himself. But I signed up for too
- 16:16Speaker 2: because I'm trying to get and just golf with random guy.
- 16:18Speaker 3: It's nice. I met him, Muso. He was a pretty
- 16:20Speaker 3: nice guy.
- 16:21Speaker 4: That's how you make friends.
- 16:22Speaker 1: You'll have to you have to update me on how
- 16:23Speaker 1: the golf in Atlanta does. I don't know if you've
- 16:25Speaker 1: ever played golf with Pedro. He's been a victim on
- 16:27Speaker 1: the show in Good Golfer, but no one posts good shots.
- 16:32Speaker 2: I think he's sandbagged me once, like the first time.
- 16:34Speaker 2: He's like, oh, I'm not good at golf, Like I'm
- 16:36Speaker 2: not really that good. And he had his first ball
- 16:38Speaker 2: like right down the mill and I was like, you lie,
- 16:40Speaker 2: people lying snake.
- 16:42Speaker 1: Well there There's been a lot of a lot of
- 16:44Speaker 1: posts on Instagram on Twitter of all of his bad shots,
- 16:47Speaker 1: and he is he's he said it does.
- 16:49Speaker 4: He doesn't think it's very fair because no one.
- 16:51Speaker 1: Ever posts the good shots. But I don't know I
- 16:53Speaker 1: get to one, but apparently.
- 16:54Speaker 3: Yeah, no one posts a picture of a minnow. It's
- 16:57Speaker 3: always a guy with the marlin, right.
- 16:59Speaker 4: That's right, myles, Where do you think you're at right now?
- 17:03Speaker 1: I mean, I know twenty three and twenty four did
- 17:05Speaker 1: not go the way you wanted, both from a team
- 17:07Speaker 1: performance and a personal performance.
- 17:09Speaker 4: Yeah, we'll call that Boston start out the window.
- 17:11Speaker 1: But I really thought on Saturday there were some a
- 17:15Speaker 1: lot of good things to look forward or just to
- 17:17Speaker 1: spin off of, especially coming after that first inning.
- 17:21Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, you know, it's always nice to see
- 17:24Speaker 2: like weird swing when you throw some pitches, like guys
- 17:27Speaker 2: like the weird check swings or you know, guys not
- 17:29Speaker 2: seeing it.
- 17:30Speaker 3: I think maybe I was hiding.
- 17:31Speaker 2: The ball better the other day, you know, staying closed
- 17:35Speaker 2: a little bit longer.
- 17:37Speaker 3: But you know, my you know, physically, my.
- 17:39Speaker 2: Body everything, everything feels great, which is one of those
- 17:43Speaker 2: things like you know, you do you want to like
- 17:47Speaker 2: be pitching great, but like maybe like you don't feel good,
- 17:51Speaker 2: like your body heard you're like pitching through things, but
- 17:53Speaker 2: pitching the good or you know, I had a rough one,
- 17:56Speaker 2: but other than that, I feel good about my stuff.
- 17:58Speaker 3: I like my stuff and like fish, I feel really good.
- 18:01Speaker 2: So I know that, you know, things will only tread
- 18:05Speaker 2: in the right direction, Like I'm not battling anything.
- 18:07Speaker 3: I'm not really battling any.
- 18:10Speaker 2: Like unnormal soreness as far as like throwing or baseball goes.
- 18:14Speaker 2: So I know that just as the season progresses, and
- 18:18Speaker 2: you know, there's like a running joke, my my best
- 18:20Speaker 2: fastballs will come in August.
- 18:24Speaker 3: Actually, yeah, you can actually go.
- 18:27Speaker 2: I've actually I've looked, because you know, every year you
- 18:30Speaker 2: show up the spring training, you're like, damn, I swear
- 18:32Speaker 2: at the end of last year, I was thrown like
- 18:34Speaker 2: ninety five ninety six. Every once in a while, I
- 18:36Speaker 2: could really reach back, and like you're reaching back early
- 18:39Speaker 2: in the season, you're like, dang, I really wish it
- 18:41Speaker 2: was there.
- 18:42Speaker 3: You're getting older, You're always thinking like, did I lose it?
- 18:44Speaker 3: Is this? It is this the year that I just
- 18:46Speaker 3: don't have any.
- 18:48Speaker 2: Extra heat in the back pocket. And then I went
- 18:51Speaker 2: on and looked, and it's like, you know, there's this
- 18:53Speaker 2: graph of like your fastball and my best ones are
- 18:56Speaker 2: always like July, August and even September some years.
- 19:00Speaker 3: So yeah, you know, you know, I'm like, uh, like.
- 19:03Speaker 2: A sea biscuit, you know, like the second half, you know,
- 19:06Speaker 2: second half horse, you know, come from behind, underdog.
- 19:10Speaker 3: Maybe I don't know, but so there's like a running
- 19:14Speaker 3: joke like, oh, you know this, I just got to
- 19:16Speaker 3: get warmed up the weather. It's it's cold. The weather's
- 19:18Speaker 3: got a warm.
- 19:20Speaker 1: Yeah, I'll give you that, but no, I really do
- 19:22Speaker 1: think this stuff looks better.
- 19:23Speaker 4: And you know, it's it's a weird season. You're the
- 19:26Speaker 4: longest tenured cardinal from the major league team, and I
- 19:30Speaker 4: get this is the.
- 19:32Speaker 1: Youngest clubhouse you and I have ever seen. So it's
- 19:34Speaker 1: a little different. Everything's a little different.
- 19:36Speaker 4: That's all right.
- 19:38Speaker 2: Different can be good. I mean we're we're hitting the
- 19:40Speaker 2: ball super good. We're hitting all so well. I mean
- 19:44Speaker 2: we got to Wheeler the other day and and Nola.
- 19:47Speaker 3: I mean that's too.
- 19:47Speaker 2: The better guys in the league, especially Wheeler and Andola
- 19:52Speaker 2: the last couple of years.
- 19:54Speaker 3: So to get to those guys, and we scored.
- 19:57Speaker 2: You know, we got to Skiens in Pittsburgh, and most
- 20:02Speaker 2: of the games we lost, you know, aside from even
- 20:04Speaker 2: in Boston, like the you know, the one game we
- 20:06Speaker 2: lost in Boston, you know, extra innings and all the
- 20:09Speaker 2: games of the Angels, you know, those games, all those
- 20:12Speaker 2: close games start falling our way.
- 20:14Speaker 3: And it's a it's it's it's a way different story.
- 20:17Speaker 1: I don't think you guys are you know, seven and
- 20:19Speaker 1: eight before the Houston series. We'll see how this is
- 20:22Speaker 1: at the end of the month, but you know, stay
- 20:23Speaker 1: around right like right around five hundred. I think you
- 20:25Speaker 1: guys will be just fine from there.
- 20:27Speaker 2: But we'll see on the on the better half of that,
- 20:29Speaker 2: i'd like to imagine.
- 20:32Speaker 4: I'm not I'm not doubting.
- 20:34Speaker 1: I really do feel like this team has a lot
- 20:37Speaker 1: of positive attributes that were probably not seen all the
- 20:39Speaker 1: way just because of the fan apathy and frustration based
- 20:42Speaker 1: off the off season, which, as you know, it doesn't
- 20:44Speaker 1: really have much to do with the players.
- 20:45Speaker 3: But yeah, yeah, and you know, we sweep the first series.
- 20:49Speaker 2: And then I get like the weather's not great, but like,
- 20:51Speaker 2: we sweep the first series, and then like the first
- 20:53Speaker 2: game of the next series is like not as many
- 20:55Speaker 2: people as you'd like to see at the game. You know,
- 20:58Speaker 2: sometimes the fan base will turner on that, oh, they
- 21:00Speaker 2: swept the series. They're back, They're great, this is gonna
- 21:03Speaker 2: be awesome. MI, Like, let's go people are holding that.
- 21:05Speaker 2: I understand they're they're they're a little bit wary of us.
- 21:08Speaker 2: But we got some great baseball coming up, especially if
- 21:11Speaker 2: this weather gets nice, so hopefully the seats start flowing
- 21:14Speaker 2: up a little bit better.
- 21:16Speaker 1: And one thing you and I both know about Cardinals
- 21:17Speaker 1: fans is that the Cardinals continue to win, the fans
- 21:19Speaker 1: will show up.
- 21:20Speaker 4: I don't think they see it.
- 21:23Speaker 2: Yeah, and you know, you know, for for the sake
- 21:25Speaker 2: of argument, Yeah, there's there's winning team, there's entertaining teams.
- 21:30Speaker 3: We're very entertaining.
- 21:32Speaker 4: You guys are very entertaining.
- 21:34Speaker 3: The salesman in me is gonna pitch. You know, come,
- 21:37Speaker 3: come out to the game, enjoy the game, Enjoy the weather.
- 21:40Speaker 2: Especially in the spring when it's still nice in August
- 21:43Speaker 2: when it's one hundred for those day games. I understand that,
- 21:47Speaker 2: you know, you want to make sure you get a
- 21:48Speaker 2: seat in the shade, but right now, fill up the stadium.
- 21:51Speaker 3: The weather's nice, Come out and watch, you know, watch
- 21:52Speaker 3: the ball.
- 21:53Speaker 2: Game, Appreciate the effort that we're putting forth, and and
- 21:58Speaker 2: enjoy it.
- 22:00Speaker 1: Speaking of watching Cardinals baseball, you can now stream the
- 22:02Speaker 1: Saintless Cardinals on FanDuel Sports Network let's hear from them
- 22:07Speaker 1: real quick.
- 22:10Speaker 4: Me out to my TV A.
- 22:12Speaker 8: Bad Duels Sports Now work.
- 22:15Speaker 3: Yeah, watch bas of Fingers and the RBS.
- 22:19Speaker 8: I'm just glad they am a local dude lab for
- 22:22Speaker 8: its root, the root for the Cardinals, Buel Sports, the Gardens.
- 22:32Speaker 1: I'm a streamer.
- 22:40Speaker 3: All right.
- 22:41Speaker 1: Let's let's do some behind the scenes with our scouting
- 22:44Speaker 1: report presented by FanDuel Sports Network. Let's scout your own rotation,
- 22:49Speaker 1: because you know, the clubhouse is the clubhouse, but there
- 22:52Speaker 1: are little groups based on positions.
- 22:54Speaker 3: And the rotation.
- 22:56Speaker 4: You guys do everything together.
- 22:57Speaker 1: You're you know, whoever is not starting or whoever starting
- 23:00Speaker 1: that day obviously excluded. But I always see you know,
- 23:02Speaker 1: the four other now five with Steven Matt's coming into
- 23:05Speaker 1: the mix, sitting together, cracking jokes.
- 23:07Speaker 4: It's a tight knit group.
- 23:09Speaker 1: I need the scouting report on the personalities of your
- 23:11Speaker 1: fellow rotation mates. Okay, all right, let's start with Let's
- 23:16Speaker 1: start with Matthew Libertoire. He's frush off a very good
- 23:19Speaker 1: start against the Villis.
- 23:20Speaker 3: Yes, Linny is you know, quiet but.
- 23:27Speaker 2: Very like like when he has something to say, it's
- 23:31Speaker 2: like it's very deliberate and usually important, but he likes
- 23:35Speaker 2: to sit there and he likes to listen, and then
- 23:38Speaker 2: his fair thing to talk about is baseball. He's like,
- 23:42Speaker 2: he's he's the one guy. I think him and Sonny
- 23:44Speaker 2: are like the two guys that I would say are
- 23:46Speaker 2: like the guys who are like almost like the baseball fanatics, like.
- 23:50Speaker 3: Everything about like every little scene and every little stitch, you.
- 23:54Speaker 2: Know, like always he always has a baseball in his hand,
- 23:59Speaker 2: you know, quiet, lots of fun. He's always always watching
- 24:04Speaker 2: and studying the other pictures. And then if you do
- 24:07Speaker 2: something that he likes, he likes to ask you about,
- 24:08Speaker 2: like you got this little movie? You doing this because
- 24:11Speaker 2: he likes to further his understanding of of of baseball.
- 24:16Speaker 4: A student of the game. Okay, so the game.
- 24:18Speaker 3: Yeah, that's a that's a good way to put it.
- 24:20Speaker 4: So what is Look, we talked to Sunny Gray every
- 24:24Speaker 4: five days.
- 24:24Speaker 1: But he's an intense guy and it's right after he pitched,
- 24:28Speaker 1: and starters are very peculiar, so we always get the
- 24:30Speaker 1: very intense Sonny Gray. And I'll see Sonny, you know,
- 24:33Speaker 1: in the clubhouse or the you know. Sometimes he likes
- 24:35Speaker 1: he likes to walk to the stadium and so do
- 24:37Speaker 1: I see him always so pleasant, super nice.
- 24:40Speaker 4: But what is Sonny Gray like when he's not starting,
- 24:43Speaker 4: What is Sonny Great like as a teammate.
- 24:45Speaker 3: He's he's fun. He's fun. He's he's he's making jokes.
- 24:49Speaker 3: He's trying to have fun. He keeps it light and
- 24:53Speaker 3: you know, he's he's pretty regimented.
- 24:55Speaker 2: He's always going about his business like he's he's cracking jokes,
- 24:58Speaker 2: you know, in in transit because he has a place
- 25:01Speaker 2: to be. You know, he's got the training room, the gym,
- 25:05Speaker 2: he's in you know, doing his homework on his on
- 25:08Speaker 2: his computer, doing stuff like that.
- 25:10Speaker 3: So he's always he's always busy. You don't see him
- 25:13Speaker 3: sitting still a lot. He's he's always interacting. He likes
- 25:17Speaker 3: to keep moving.
- 25:17Speaker 2: You know, he's outside on the field, you know, you know, barefoot,
- 25:22Speaker 2: you know, doing stuff on the grass, like stretching.
- 25:26Speaker 3: Always busy, always being productive and always you know, always
- 25:31Speaker 3: kind of cracking jokes, having fun.
- 25:33Speaker 1: Okay, last question from the rotation from the personal scouting side.
- 25:38Speaker 1: Who is the most gullible in the rotation and why
- 25:41Speaker 1: is it Andre Polante?
- 25:44Speaker 3: Because he's young.
- 25:45Speaker 2: He's he's young, he's he's I mean, I guess Livy's
- 25:49Speaker 2: technically younger, but Dre just has like this. But Livy's married,
- 25:53Speaker 2: you know, he's a little more grown up, I guess,
- 25:56Speaker 2: And in that sense, you know, he was a high
- 25:58Speaker 2: school draft guy. He's you know, been out on his
- 26:02Speaker 2: own since high school a little bit, and Dre might
- 26:04Speaker 2: be a little more anchored, you know, college boy attitude.
- 26:11Speaker 3: California kid. I don't know. Maybe being from California makes
- 26:14Speaker 3: him gullible. I would, I would say.
- 26:16Speaker 4: I mean, I'm pretty I'm pretty gold You guys can
- 26:18Speaker 4: you guys can get me on a lot of things.
- 26:21Speaker 2: From what I understand, people in California fall for falling
- 26:25Speaker 2: forward for a while multiple fronts. But he's he's young,
- 26:33Speaker 2: and I think he wants you to believe that he's gullible.
- 26:38Speaker 2: Plant has like a really dry, like a dry sense
- 26:42Speaker 2: of humor, So so he wants you to believe that
- 26:47Speaker 2: he is a little more gullible than he looks. I'm
- 26:50Speaker 2: not saying he's he's not playing the role of of
- 26:56Speaker 2: like a simple guy, like he's not.
- 26:59Speaker 3: He doesn't.
- 26:59Speaker 2: He doesn't feign ignorance, sure, but but he definitely is,
- 27:06Speaker 2: you know, a little he's he likes to play along like,
- 27:11Speaker 2: you know, we're pulling jokes down.
- 27:12Speaker 3: He'll he'll play along with the jokes, and he'll fall for.
- 27:15Speaker 2: The jokes because he understands like he's the younger guy
- 27:17Speaker 2: and we're just he knows the jokes are harmless, but
- 27:20Speaker 2: he'll just play along with them so we get our laugh.
- 27:22Speaker 3: And then he's probably you know, walking away going I
- 27:25Speaker 3: saw coming from a mile away. I'll just because if
- 27:28Speaker 3: he doesn't fall for the joke or or the prank
- 27:31Speaker 3: or whatever it is, he knows.
- 27:32Speaker 2: That we're just gonna keep at it until we get
- 27:35Speaker 2: him or until we get what we want out of it.
- 27:37Speaker 2: So he's like, I'll just you know, all, you know,
- 27:41Speaker 2: I'll take a bite of it and let him be
- 27:43Speaker 2: done with it. You know, it's it's it's done.
- 27:45Speaker 3: It's over.
- 27:46Speaker 4: Poor Polanta. He just can't win with you guys.
- 27:48Speaker 1: But there's always one in the rotation that kind of
- 27:50Speaker 1: has to just wear it. And he's always been a
- 27:52Speaker 1: total pro with us, at.
- 27:53Speaker 2: Least every every stab, every team does, a guy that
- 27:57Speaker 2: has to has to be the butt of some jokes
- 28:00Speaker 2: and that's just how it is.
- 28:02Speaker 1: Well that's Miles Michael's scouting report on the Saint Louis
- 28:05Speaker 1: Cardinals rotation presented by.
- 28:06Speaker 4: FanDuel Sports Network.
- 28:08Speaker 1: You can now stream the Saint Louis Cardinals games through
- 28:11Speaker 1: FanDuel Sports Network and if you use the promo code
- 28:13Speaker 1: Baseball thirty, you can start it off with a thirty
- 28:16Speaker 1: day extended free trial at fanduelsportsnetwork dot com slash packages.
- 28:20Speaker 1: This steel expires May second, twenty twenty five, nineteen ninety nine,
- 28:23Speaker 1: a month after your free trial canceled.
- 28:25Speaker 4: During your free trial.
- 28:26Speaker 1: To avoid charges, eligibility restrictions apply, visit fanduelsportsnetwork dot com
- 28:31Speaker 1: for details. Miles were almost at time here, but I
- 28:35Speaker 1: did want to reserve some time for your rant on
- 28:40Speaker 1: youth sports. And if you've ever listened to a Miles
- 28:42Speaker 1: Michael's rant, it can go anywhere. So I'm I'm listening
- 28:45Speaker 1: and the floor is yours.
- 28:48Speaker 2: All I want to say is, like the emphasis on
- 28:52Speaker 2: winning and the stuff that I hear from other people,
- 28:55Speaker 2: like emphasis on winning at.
- 28:57Speaker 3: A young age, like I've had almost.
- 29:00Speaker 2: Enough of it, Maybe like that eleven to twelve, like
- 29:04Speaker 2: the little Big World Series age, then we can really
- 29:07Speaker 2: focus on winning. But you got like machine pitch coaches
- 29:11Speaker 2: arguing about how many runs they scored.
- 29:14Speaker 3: Kids six or seven years old. I think it's fun,
- 29:17Speaker 3: Like with the walk up songs, I think it's fun.
- 29:19Speaker 3: Some of the stuff. I can't believe that the parents
- 29:22Speaker 3: letting their children listen to some of the music. I
- 29:26Speaker 3: hope it's an edited version, even.
- 29:28Speaker 2: If it's not, like it's suggestive and kids don't know
- 29:31Speaker 2: what the words mean sometimes. But you know, my kids
- 29:34Speaker 2: listen to like the classic country, classic rock, you know,
- 29:39Speaker 2: things like that, and there's messages in all the music.
- 29:42Speaker 2: But some of the walkout songs, the kids come out,
- 29:44Speaker 2: So I'm like, that's not appropriate even to editing, I
- 29:49Speaker 2: don't think. But you also you don't need a walk
- 29:51Speaker 2: out song. I get like they want to have the slag,
- 29:53Speaker 2: they want to be like the pros they see on TV.
- 29:56Speaker 2: But I think it's a little much. I mean, when
- 30:00Speaker 2: I was in Little League, all you.
- 30:01Speaker 3: Had to do was were your hat backwards like hanger
- 30:03Speaker 3: for junior, and that was like the big thing. Now
- 30:04Speaker 3: it's like, you know, arm inviting. I heard someone complain
- 30:12Speaker 3: his kids were a little older.
- 30:13Speaker 2: I heard of a friend of mine complaining, they they're
- 30:17Speaker 2: kids like ten years old and they allow steals.
- 30:19Speaker 3: The kid gets on first base. He steals second.
- 30:21Speaker 2: No catchers can throw the ball to second base because
- 30:24Speaker 2: he's only ten years old.
- 30:25Speaker 3: And then it's a bad throw. Then the kid runs
- 30:27Speaker 3: the third. Every hit is a.
- 30:28Speaker 2: Triple stop, the stealing stop, rushing these kids. Let them
- 30:33Speaker 2: work on the skills and the fundamentals, especially at a
- 30:36Speaker 2: younger age. In this machine pitch league. They you know,
- 30:42Speaker 2: like a routine ground ball to shortstop. Sometimes the coaches
- 30:45Speaker 2: will tell the shortstop to just eat it, like don't
- 30:47Speaker 2: don't throw it, because if he throws it, it's a
- 30:51Speaker 2: fifty to fifty chance or probably better than that, that
- 30:53Speaker 2: the ball goes to.
- 30:54Speaker 3: The fence and that the kid's going to be on
- 30:56Speaker 3: second base. If I was running these leagues, there's no
- 31:01Speaker 3: taking an extra base.
- 31:04Speaker 2: Unless it's like a throw to third base, you know,
- 31:07Speaker 2: like maybe getting a force out and then the guy
- 31:09Speaker 2: can score, like you can you can take home plate
- 31:11Speaker 2: if it's a bath row to third. But like, let
- 31:13Speaker 2: the kid run to first base, let him run all
- 31:15Speaker 2: the way through. Make the kid at shortstop for third base,
- 31:19Speaker 2: make the throw. Let him practice the throw in real time,
- 31:22Speaker 2: whether the guy's safe or out or he throws it
- 31:25Speaker 2: over his head or throw his legs. But let him
- 31:29Speaker 2: make the throw and leave the kid on first base.
- 31:32Speaker 2: Keep the force play at second base in line so
- 31:35Speaker 2: the kids can learn that when there's a guy on
- 31:37Speaker 2: first that you feel it, then you can get an
- 31:40Speaker 2: easier out at second because you end up with ground
- 31:44Speaker 2: ball to shortstop. The kid throws it to first base
- 31:47Speaker 2: or you know whatever, he's on second. Now there's no
- 31:51Speaker 2: force play. Now the kids don't understand. They get the ball,
- 31:53Speaker 2: the kids on second, they're not understanding, like where to
- 31:56Speaker 2: do they throw it to third, but it's not a
- 31:57Speaker 2: force and it just like it it message with the
- 32:00Speaker 2: whole flow of the game, like let him play the
- 32:03Speaker 2: game the right way. Encourage them to throw and make
- 32:07Speaker 2: the play it, not just like, oh, don't make an error,
- 32:09Speaker 2: don't throw it like that. That drives me nuts. I'm like,
- 32:14Speaker 2: throw the ball.
- 32:15Speaker 3: Just throw it.
- 32:16Speaker 2: And if I was a coach, when I am a
- 32:18Speaker 2: coach in the future, I'll try to get the other
- 32:21Speaker 2: coaches on board.
- 32:22Speaker 3: I'll be like, hey, let's not take extra bases today.
- 32:25Speaker 3: Let the kid throw it.
- 32:26Speaker 2: Let's not take extra bases. I bet you the game
- 32:29Speaker 2: will go by faster. The kid will still be safe,
- 32:31Speaker 2: he won't be out, Like keep the force play alive.
- 32:35Speaker 2: The game might even move, The game would move quicker,
- 32:37Speaker 2: maybe guys would get more bats or more reps, and.
- 32:41Speaker 1: Just like.
- 32:43Speaker 2: It just you know, let them play, let them play,
- 32:45Speaker 2: let them let them develop, and then like the kids
- 32:48Speaker 2: doing the travel ball seven eight years old travel team.
- 32:52Speaker 2: There used to be one travel team in Jupiter when
- 32:55Speaker 2: I was growing up, when I got a little older,
- 32:57Speaker 2: there were maybe two.
- 32:58Speaker 3: Now there's like, you know, you have like organizations. Yeah,
- 33:03Speaker 3: like you know, the the.
- 33:05Speaker 2: Jupiter Whoever's They've got a ten, a twelve, and a
- 33:08Speaker 2: fourteen year old team.
- 33:09Speaker 3: They've got an A team and a B team for
- 33:11Speaker 3: each age. And it's like, I don't know, I don't
- 33:16Speaker 3: know what we're doing.
- 33:17Speaker 2: I didn't play I don't think I played travel ball. Really,
- 33:22Speaker 2: you know, you play Little League and then you play
- 33:24Speaker 2: all Stars. I know it's different now, but I think
- 33:27Speaker 2: the I think the reps are good. But driving halfway
- 33:31Speaker 2: across the state for nine ten year olds to have
- 33:36Speaker 2: six at bats off a coach or a machine and
- 33:39Speaker 2: then not even throw the ball across the diamond because
- 33:42Speaker 2: we're worried about making an air and a kid taking
- 33:44Speaker 2: second base, I don't know.
- 33:48Speaker 3: I don't get it.
- 33:49Speaker 2: And I read an article or an extrapt from an
- 33:52Speaker 2: article that was talking about the Tommy.
- 33:54Speaker 3: John surgeries over the last however long and it was
- 33:58Speaker 3: twenty of them.
- 34:00Speaker 2: Of the twenty pitchers, nineteen of them were American born
- 34:04Speaker 2: pictures and one of them was a Latin player.
- 34:08Speaker 3: And it was a knock on.
- 34:11Speaker 2: The travel ball, like just do everything you can to
- 34:16Speaker 2: throw hard at a at a young age, and you know,
- 34:21Speaker 2: mechanics be danged or you know, your body be darned.
- 34:25Speaker 3: Just you gotta throw hard. You gotta throw hard, you
- 34:27Speaker 3: gotta throw hard. And these kids are blown out, you know,
- 34:31Speaker 3: younger than ever, earlier than ever, and like more often
- 34:33Speaker 3: than ever.
- 34:35Speaker 4: Culture not it, No, it's not.
- 34:38Speaker 2: And the that was the whole point is that at
- 34:40Speaker 2: some point there has to be a shift in the
- 34:43Speaker 2: way that travel ball and all these things kind of
- 34:45Speaker 2: work so kids can stay healthy and baseball can stay
- 34:50Speaker 2: you know, the way it is.
- 34:52Speaker 1: For those that be wondering what reporters and players talk
- 34:54Speaker 1: about in the hour of clubhouse every day, that that's
- 34:56Speaker 1: about it.
- 34:57Speaker 4: Very little work. Some some reporters do work, not necessarily me.
- 35:01Speaker 1: Uh, my favorite thing about you, Miles is that I
- 35:03Speaker 1: never know what we're going to talk about we've done.
- 35:05Speaker 1: I mean, we've talked about the carnivore diet, We've talked
- 35:07Speaker 1: about this, so things like, there's so many things.
- 35:12Speaker 2: Going on in the you know, in today's day and age,
- 35:17Speaker 2: there's always you know, all I do is, you know,
- 35:20Speaker 2: read the internet news for just a for just a minute,
- 35:23Speaker 2: and you've got all different stuff.
- 35:26Speaker 1: We never run out of things to talk about. I
- 35:27Speaker 1: also noticed that you've had a baseball in your hand
- 35:29Speaker 1: this entire podcast, and I've had a pen in my
- 35:32Speaker 1: hand this entire time. I think this is a true
- 35:35Speaker 1: I don't know, and bodies the we're just master masters
- 35:38Speaker 1: of our craft.
- 35:39Speaker 2: Libby had a great game the other day. Always has
- 35:41Speaker 2: a baseball in his hand. I'm seeing if maybe that's.
- 35:43Speaker 4: The Sonny does too. Sonny always has.
- 35:46Speaker 2: A babi to always always in a baseball, Always like
- 35:49Speaker 2: messing with the grip. I'm all, you know, working on
- 35:51Speaker 2: your grips. So some days some grips feel great and
- 35:55Speaker 2: some days.
- 35:56Speaker 3: They feel like I don't even want to, like I
- 35:58Speaker 3: kind of like wash my hands on it.
- 36:00Speaker 4: Than no, I don't want it.
- 36:01Speaker 1: Yeah, Well, hopefully your next star which is Friday against
- 36:04Speaker 1: the New York Mets is another great one. We'll see
- 36:07Speaker 1: but I know you have to get to buchhade him
- 36:09Speaker 1: and so do I. So hey, thank you so much
- 36:11Speaker 1: for doing this.
- 36:12Speaker 4: I always appreciate time outside of the work hours. Yeah
- 36:17Speaker 4: it's Miles Michaelis You know him, you love him.
- 36:20Speaker 1: I'm Katie Woo. This is Cardinal Territory. We'll be back
- 36:23Speaker 1: later in the week. Bernie Michlas and I will wrap
- 36:25Speaker 1: up the Astro series. Until then, thanks for watching, Myles.
- 36:29Speaker 4: I'll see you in a little bit.
- 36:30Speaker 3: Thank you so much. See you later.
