- 0:00Speaker 1: Energy Secretary Chris Wright joins US Now, Secretary right, thank
- 0:04Speaker 1: you for being here. We saw US forces struck Iran
- 0:08Speaker 1: for the eighth night in a row last night. Is
- 0:11Speaker 1: the President planning any further retaliation for the killing of
- 0:15Speaker 1: those two US service members?
- 0:19Speaker 2: Yeah? Look, the President's mission is essential for peace in
- 0:22Speaker 2: the Middle East and peace in the world, and that
- 0:25Speaker 2: is to prevent Iran from achieving nuclear weapons and to
- 0:29Speaker 2: degrade their ability to terrorize their neighbors and the world
- 0:33Speaker 2: and global commerce. So yes, this mission will go on
- 0:36Speaker 2: until the mission is done.
- 0:38Speaker 1: But I'm asking you where does he plan retaliation for
- 0:40Speaker 1: the killing of those US service members.
- 0:45Speaker 2: It's a tragic to lose American lives, but this is
- 0:48Speaker 2: a mission that will save countless lives going forward. His
- 0:52Speaker 2: focus is on degrading the Iranian ability to terrorize the world,
- 0:57Speaker 2: to hold world commerce hostage as they are doing right now,
- 1:00Speaker 2: and to prevent Iran from getting yucre weapons. That is unchanged.
- 1:05Speaker 1: You were on the show back in March, and I
- 1:08Speaker 1: want to play something of what you said about how
- 1:10Speaker 1: long this war would last.
- 1:13Speaker 2: I think that this conflict will certainly come to the
- 1:15Speaker 2: end in the next few weeks. Could be sooner than that.
- 1:19Speaker 1: So you said it would certainly come to an end
- 1:21Speaker 1: within a few weeks. We are now nearly five months
- 1:24Speaker 1: into this war. How does it end? When does it end? Well?
- 1:31Speaker 2: The plan we needed four to six weeks for military actions.
- 1:34Speaker 2: They went for five and a half weeks. We did
- 1:37Speaker 2: a pause to try to get an agreement with the
- 1:40Speaker 2: Iranian people to allow oil to flow without them attacking it.
- 1:45Speaker 2: They've proven unwilling to do that, and we've pivoted. Now.
- 1:48Speaker 2: What we're doing is assuring that oil and gas and
- 1:52Speaker 2: other products can flow through the Strait of Horror moves
- 1:55Speaker 2: with or without Iranian cooperation, and we've continued to degrade
- 1:59Speaker 2: their offensive military capabilities. The President is always looking for
- 2:03Speaker 2: the diplomatic off ramp. President Trump wants to end it
- 2:07Speaker 2: with a peaceful agreement with Iran, but it takes two
- 2:10Speaker 2: parties to do that. If they're if they're ready to
- 2:13Speaker 2: do that, that's the way it'll end. If not, we
- 2:16Speaker 2: will continue to show a sure flow of traffic through
- 2:20Speaker 2: the strait without Iran's cooperation.
- 2:22Speaker 1: But we're not seeing flow now right, I mean as
- 2:24Speaker 1: in flow of traffics with the Strait of Vermuz effectively
- 2:29Speaker 1: stopped over the past few days.
- 2:32Speaker 2: Oh absolutely not, absolutely not. I get the data on
- 2:35Speaker 2: that every day. The seven day trailing average right now
- 2:39Speaker 2: is just under seven million barrels a day flowing through
- 2:42Speaker 2: the waterway, and just under seven million barrels a day
- 2:46Speaker 2: additional flow through the bypass pipelines, So we're at a
- 2:50Speaker 2: little under fourteen million barrels a day from the Arabian
- 2:53Speaker 2: Golf region. That's two thirds of pre conflict traffic, dramatically
- 2:58Speaker 2: up from where we were back in March when I
- 3:00Speaker 2: was last on your show. I mean one hundred percent yet,
- 3:03Speaker 2: but two thirds of flow right now.
- 3:05Speaker 1: And that's over the past few days. When when's that average?
- 3:08Speaker 1: When we saw the numbers from Thursday were simply eight
- 3:12Speaker 1: eight ships going through the Straight of Hormos. That's far below.
- 3:16Speaker 2: So almost all the public almost all the public data
- 3:20Speaker 2: I've seen is incorrect. There's flow through two routes through
- 3:23Speaker 2: the Straight of Hormones. There's up near the Iranian Islands
- 3:27Speaker 2: that's flow complicit with Iran, but that's not nothing. And
- 3:30Speaker 2: then there's flow through the southern route that's protected by
- 3:33Speaker 2: American infrastructure, and we count the volume of oil that
- 3:37Speaker 2: goes through the ship numbers are down more dramatically, but
- 3:40Speaker 2: of course we're flowing larger tankers now to keep the
- 3:43Speaker 2: world markets as well supplied as we can. Gasoline prices
- 3:47Speaker 2: today are more than a dollar a gallon cheaper than
- 3:50Speaker 2: they were four years ago under the Biden administration, and
- 3:54Speaker 2: we'll do everything we can to drive them further down
- 3:57Speaker 2: in the weeks and months ahead.
- 3:58Speaker 1: And we've seen over the over the past week, the
- 4:01Speaker 1: price of oil go up, the price of gas go up.
- 4:05Speaker 1: The Iranian IRGC is now saying that if the US
- 4:08Speaker 1: strikes continue, they will go to what they are calling
- 4:11Speaker 1: full scale assault and annihilation and try to smash infrastructure,
- 4:16Speaker 1: specifically energy infrastructure in the region. What are they capable
- 4:20Speaker 1: of doing and what are the implications for the price
- 4:25Speaker 1: of oil and the price of gas.
- 4:29Speaker 2: Well, clearly, as we've seen, decades of focusing their entire
- 4:33Speaker 2: economy on armament has made a very prickly Iran. They've
- 4:38Speaker 2: continued to attack their neighbors shamelessly, civilian targets at least
- 4:44Speaker 2: as much as military targets. We don't have any reason
- 4:48Speaker 2: to believe they will stop that, but we are continuing
- 4:51Speaker 2: to shrink their ability to execute those tax and we
- 4:55Speaker 2: are doing this in coordination and in partnership with all
- 4:58Speaker 2: their neighbor countries that they are assaulting.
- 5:01Speaker 1: Okay, miss Stritcher, while I've got you here a different topic.
- 5:04Speaker 1: The President made it clear this week that he views
- 5:08Speaker 1: election security as a top domestic priority. Yet we saw
- 5:13Speaker 1: his budget has cut CEASA, the cybersecurity agency, by seven
- 5:19Speaker 1: hundred million dollars. If he's so concerned about possible foreign
- 5:22Speaker 1: interference in our elections, why does his budget cut the
- 5:26Speaker 1: agency that would be charged with preventing that. Well, look,
- 5:32Speaker 1: there's many cybersecurity agencies across the government. We meet regularly
- 5:37Speaker 1: on that topic, and our efforts have done nothing but
- 5:40Speaker 1: ramp up. Sure they've gotten more sophisticated and a different
- 5:44Speaker 1: focus of them.
- 5:45Speaker 2: But I wouldn't look at the inputs the money spent.
- 5:48Speaker 2: I'd look at the outputs. The quality of United States
- 5:51Speaker 2: cybersecurity that's never been higher than where it is right
- 5:54Speaker 2: now under President.
- 5:55Speaker 1: Trump, never been higher, And you're including election security in then.
- 6:02Speaker 2: Across the board, we are looking at cybersecurity from threats
- 6:06Speaker 2: from adversaries. I've not been involved in the election efforts,
- 6:09Speaker 2: so I can't comment on them, but obviously, having trust
- 6:12Speaker 2: in American systems of government and keeping our nation secure
- 6:16Speaker 2: is top priority for the Trump administration.
- 6:18Speaker 1: He and one last question before you go, really simple one.
- 6:23Speaker 1: Did Joe Biden win the twenty twenty presidential election?
- 6:30Speaker 2: He was president for four years, clearly, so he clearly.
- 6:33Speaker 1: Won the election.
- 6:37Speaker 2: Like I'm that an election evaluator, but it sure seems to.
- 6:39Speaker 1: Me like he did. Okay, secretary right, thank you very much,
- 6:42Speaker 1: appreciate it.
- 6:45Speaker 2: Thank you,
