- 0:15personalized guidance, be sure to apply to our RBSN Period
- 0:18recovery nutrition coaching program.
- 0:20Our four month period recovery program is designed to help you
- 0:22sustainably get your period back and keep it.
- 0:24You can apply now to get started in our program, and we'll leave
- 0:27the link for the program below if you're not quite ready for
- 0:29that one-on-one approach. That's exactly why we created
- 0:31the Period Recovery Guide. It's designed to support the
- 0:33girlies working on period recovery, specifically if you've
- 0:36lost it due to hypothalamic amenorrhea.
- 0:38The full Period Recovery guide is finally out now, and we will
- 0:41leave all of the information for it in the podcast show notes.
- 0:44This is the Eat More Carbs podcast.
- 0:51Hello and welcome back. This is the More Carbs podcast.
- 0:53It's Jenna here with Riley. We are both dietitians and we
- 0:55talk every Thursday about sports nutrition for the girlies
- 0:58specifically, we talk about how to get your period back if
- 1:01you've lost it due to hypothalamic amenorrhea and low
- 1:03energy availability. On today's episode, we have a
- 1:05very exciting announcement. I know that I'm super excited
- 1:08for everyone to kind of know this.
- 1:10We've been teasing it for quite a bit of time.
- 1:11But before we get into all of that, Riley, give us your update
- 1:15on your week. How's it going high and low So
- 1:16I'm start. With my low, it is a little bit
- 1:18of like an older low. It happened a couple weeks ago,
- 1:20but it's bothering me so I have to share.
- 1:23A couple weeks ago for the 4th of July, we went to the
- 1:25mountains for the holiday. It was actually really, really
- 1:28fun. We got this like little cabin in
- 1:30the woods. We had like a like river flowing
- 1:32through. It was really, really fun.
- 1:34But I got eaten alive at mosquitoes.
- 1:36I am one of those people that like I will go outside for 5
- 1:39minutes and I honestly will have 30 mosquito bites.
- 1:43Jenna, it is crazy. Like I'm outside with Rob's and
- 1:47Charlie. They don't have a single bite on
- 1:49them. I am covered in mosquito bites
- 1:51and it's just such a first world problem but they are so itchy I
- 1:55cannot deal with it. No, I know that feeling that's
- 1:58the worst when you get bug bites.
- 2:00But have you seen from mosquitoes specifically?
- 2:02They make those citronella wristbands that almost look like
- 2:05hair ties that you can wear on your wrists.
- 2:07No. Yes.
- 2:08So I did this when we went on like a hike one time.
- 2:11And they're like literally like little hair tie wristbands type
- 2:14of things. And you can wear them on your
- 2:15ankles or your wrists. And I feel like they helped.
- 2:18Definitely not perfect, but it might help because I especially
- 2:21feel like Miss Skitos always tend to get around like ankles
- 2:23and stuff like that. Like, I don't know if that might
- 2:25be something to look into to help in the future because I
- 2:27know you guys are hoping to, you know, go back.
- 2:29Yeah. I know it's so silly but like I
- 2:32just have them and they're all over my body and I'm so itchy
- 2:34and I just, I can't. And I guess I got spoiled
- 2:37because we like spray for them at home just because I'm so
- 2:40reactive to them. But it was literally I was a 5
- 2:43minute period of time. I must have been like by a nest
- 2:45or something and I just got attacked.
- 2:47Are you still itchy from it all? Oh gosh no, that's way too long.
- 2:51If I like. Lifted my shirt up, you would
- 2:52see like 4 on my shoulder. Uh huh.
- 2:54It's too much. It's too much, it's too much.
- 2:56I know it's such a silly low but it's really affecting me. 0 out
- 2:59of 10 stars. Highly would not recommend.
- 3:01My high though, is actually a client story and I'm really
- 3:05excited to share this because I was like really touched by her
- 3:09sharing this with me and I thought that it would benefit so
- 3:11many people from kind of sharing it on the podcast.
- 3:14Remember our clients in our period recovery program, She's
- 3:16working on getting her period back.
- 3:18She has some puberty and she's getting her period a little bit
- 3:21later, so it is taking a little bit longer.
- 3:23And I'm really proud of her because she's really continuing
- 3:26to, you know, push herself in our period recovery program.
- 3:29Part of our kind of support that we have for athletes is having
- 3:32them take pictures of their plates and they submit them to
- 3:36us and we provide feedback and then also accountability and
- 3:38support. On one of her plates that she
- 3:41submitted, she was actually like missing a fat source, like some
- 3:45potatoes, some green beans, some pork.
- 3:47There was a little bit of butter on the potatoes, but it was low
- 3:50on the fact I was actually like going to write a comment and I
- 3:53was going to message her to kind of chat a little bit about it
- 3:55because she's really good about like being on top of her fat
- 3:58sources. She actually like sent me a
- 4:00voice message because she was really proud about this current
- 4:03situation actually related to this plate.
- 4:05She had plated her food, which was a really big step for her.
- 4:08And she noticed that she was low in fat.
- 4:10So she decided that she was going to drink a glass of milk
- 4:13to help meet her fat goal for that meal.
- 4:15And she said that this was something that was really like,
- 4:18nerve wracking for her because she was adding something in
- 4:20addition to the meal. And when she looked around at
- 4:22the people at the table with her, she noticed that her
- 4:25portions were a little bit bigger because obviously,
- 4:27everybody has different needs. And she was the only person with
- 4:29a glass of milk. She said that she, you know,
- 4:31started if you were really anxious about this, She actually
- 4:34shared that with her family. And she said, hey, like, I'm
- 4:36feeling a little anxious about this meal.
- 4:37Like, I could use a little bit of additional support.
- 4:39Every single person in her family got up and got a glass of
- 4:43milk and drank it with her. I might cry.
- 4:45I was like, I'm crying right now.
- 4:48And I was like, we need this support.
- 4:50Like this is the energy that we need for all of our athletes,
- 4:54whether you have your period or not.
- 4:56We need to be supporting each other.
- 4:58And I just thought that was like such a heartwarming story
- 5:01because like, I don't know. I just feel like so many times
- 5:03that we, we look at what other people are doing at the table
- 5:06and we feel like what we're doing is wrong and we compare
- 5:08ourselves to others and we're getting negative comments.
- 5:10And it was just so heartwarming to hear that everybody at the
- 5:13table was supporting her and her goal.
- 5:14I might cry. I'll probably think about this
- 5:16for the rest of the day and tear up every single time I think
- 5:18about it. That is wonderful.
- 5:20I think one of the things that we underestimate is the power of
- 5:23community and having people around you that can support the
- 5:25goals that you have, especially when you're going through like
- 5:28period recovery, which can be so challenging.
- 5:30So to have somebody or have family in your corner that can
- 5:33support you. And also huge shout out to her
- 5:35for being open and honest with her family and sharing that she
- 5:38was struggling in that moment because that was hard too.
- 5:40So many wonderful things there. Oh my.
- 5:42Gosh, I know I'm just, I'm so proud of like everybody in that
- 5:46situation. I'm just, I make just.
- 5:48This warms my heart. We can end the podcast now.
- 5:50Nothing is going to talk bad. We do have a really exciting
- 5:53announcement today though, so please keep listening.
- 5:56You have to wait until we get to the big announcement for RBSN,
- 5:59but wow, I love that. Nothing that I say for my high
- 6:01and low is even going to come close to that because that's
- 6:03amazing. I love that so.
- 6:05No, I bet your high and low is great.
- 6:06I want to hear it. OK, Riley, do you know what
- 6:08happened recently? A lot of stuff, Yeah, a lot of
- 6:10stuff, obviously, But Amazon Prime Day.
- 6:14Tell me what you got. I had to be so diligent about
- 6:18not just buying everything that showed me a good deal.
- 6:22If you've listened to this podcast for a while, you are
- 6:24aware that Riley and I love a deal on Amazon Prime Day always
- 6:26gets me. I am aware of the fact that they
- 6:29just mark up the product and then discount it and then show
- 6:32it to you as a great deal, so that makes you more likely to
- 6:34buy. I know that's happening, but it
- 6:36works on me. It is a marketing tactic that
- 6:38gets me every single time. I have been really hoping that
- 6:41we would get like a new Ring doorbell to monitor things.
- 6:44So I needed one of those. I wanted a fur bow for my dog.
- 6:47Like things that I was trying to convince myself for practical
- 6:50because I already needed them. So I was just using Amazon Prime
- 6:54Day to actually purchase them. So I did a really good job.
- 6:56Not like buying random things that were like flash sale 5
- 6:59minutes left or anything like that.
- 7:01Like I didn't buy 6 new water bottles or anything like that.
- 7:03It was things that were on a list that I knew that I actually
- 7:07did. I don't want to say need because
- 7:09nothing is ever like needed, but I knew that I wanted already so
- 7:12I'm using that as my excuse this year.
- 7:15What like adult purchases by you though a ring doorbell and like
- 7:18a fur bow? Like who is she?
- 7:20What I know? Last time I think I bought like,
- 7:22I don't know, a flip mask and eye patches like.
- 7:25Also things that you need right? OK, that's what I was telling
- 7:27myself. But I did a really good job of
- 7:30not overspending on Amazon Prime Day, so I'm not sure if that's a
- 7:33high or a low because it could be both.
- 7:35Depends. I was wondering that I was like
- 7:37is this your high or is this your low?
- 7:38But I'm here for both of them. Amazon Prime Day.
- 7:41It gets me every year. I'm going to leave Amazon Prime
- 7:43Day as both my high and my low because I don't have a good
- 7:47enough story to share for like either a high or a low.
- 7:50So Amazon Prime Day is my high and my low.
- 7:52Is that your low then? Yeah, Amazon Prime Day gets me
- 7:54every year is my low. My high is that I got things
- 7:57that I needed and I didn't overspend.
- 7:58So look at me. Growing up.
- 8:00Growing up so mature. Some people said it would never
- 8:02happen, but here we are. There's always next year, don't
- 8:05worry. Which it's terrible because
- 8:07Amazon Prime Day also overlaps with the Nordstrom semi annual
- 8:10sale. So like I'm just getting kit
- 8:11with all the sale emails, you know what I mean?
- 8:13Like it's one after another. I need them to space.
- 8:15It out. Do you want to know a?
- 8:16Secret. Yes, always.
- 8:18Everything I'm wearing right now is from the Nordstrom pre
- 8:21annual. Amazing.
- 8:25Everything I'm wearing literally gore shirt shoes I got from the
- 8:29pre sale for the whatever the Nordstrom.
- 8:32Isn't it amazing that they do a pre sale to the?
- 8:35Sale. Yeah, but only like 1 of the
- 8:37things I'm wearing was actually on sale.
- 8:39What shoes do you have on? Since I can't see you, can you
- 8:41shut the screen? I can't see them are.
- 8:43They OK, I can't show you because I'm wearing a score, but
- 8:45I really just did try. If you are watching the video,
- 8:48you will see that I'm not flexible and I obviously need to
- 8:50do mobility work before the New York City Marathon.
- 8:52Do these like Sambas, like the the Adidas shoes that
- 8:55everybody's wearing? Oh, yeah.
- 8:56Do you like them? Yeah.
- 8:57But they are indoor soccer shoes.
- 8:59And I used to wear them when I was like 8.
- 9:01And I just cannot get over myself.
- 9:02I love that. I just, like, looked down at my
- 9:04feet. I'm like, I'm ready to go.
- 9:05I'm ready to. Play.
- 9:05Do you feel like you have to wear them?
- 9:07Machine guards. I feel like I cannot wear them
- 9:09in front of my husband because he would literally make that
- 9:11comment every two minutes. That's.
- 9:14So funny. I'm crying, this is so funny.
- 9:17Well, we got really off topic today and today's Iowa.
- 9:21Yeah, we were all over the place today.
- 9:22But today we do have a very exciting announcement and thank
- 9:25you for sticking with us through all of our high and low to get
- 9:28to are very exciting are we as an announcement.
- 9:30We are so excited to share with you.
- 9:32We have been holding on to the Secret for the last couple of
- 9:35months, but we have a new addition to the RBSN team.
- 9:40Welcome officially to Lily. I am so excited to be here.
- 9:45If you are one of our period recovery athletes right now, or
- 9:48if you are familiar with RBSN, you have probably either already
- 9:51started working with Lily or you have seen her working hard
- 9:54behind the scenes. Lily was an intern with RBSN for
- 9:57the last couple of years and now she is a official performance
- 10:01dietitian with RBSN and I'm gonna let Lily share a little
- 10:04bit about herself. Like Riley and Jenna said, I'm
- 10:06Lily and I am currently based in Texas.
- 10:09I'm in the DFW area. I just graduated from TCU.
- 10:13I'm so excited to help girlies get their periods back.
- 10:16I think that's really where my passion lies and I'm just
- 10:19excited to get. Started Lily.
- 10:20We are so excited to officially have you as part of the team.
- 10:23I know that it was a long time coming as far as how you had
- 10:27interned with Riley and I for such a long time, it feels like
- 10:31and to officially say welcome to the team with such like a big
- 10:33moment not only for RBSN but like to welcome you specifically
- 10:36onto the team was just so exciting.
- 10:38Can you share a little bit more about like the population that
- 10:40you specifically work with, like the girlies that you help get
- 10:43their period back? Yeah, so as a recent grad and a
- 10:47post grad girlie myself, I know how difficult it is to move into
- 10:51the real world and also navigate period recovery.
- 10:54Fueling my primary population is going to be the college girlies
- 10:58who are active but might not consider themselves athletes
- 11:01even though they are consistently working out and
- 11:04just trying to get them to get their period back.
- 11:06Love that for anyone who's new to the More Carbs podcast and
- 11:09isn't familiar maybe with who Riley and I work with, Riley
- 11:12should we share just about like who we you see at our BSN to
- 11:14help get their period back? Yes, I can start off based off
- 11:18of kind of my background. Once Upon a time, you know, was
- 11:20a college athlete myself. I do see a lot of our college
- 11:22athletes, especially in the team sport.
- 11:24So soccer, basketball, volleyball, lacrosse, field
- 11:27hockey and I see a lot of those girlies in our period recovery
- 11:30program. Additionally, I love working
- 11:32with combat and weight class athletes.
- 11:34I see our high rocks and CrossFit girlies.
- 11:37I work with a lot of gymnasts and then I'm also going to see a
- 11:41lot of our like, trying to conceive athletes and those
- 11:44athletes going through that postpartum phase.
- 11:46I just shared a little bit about who I work with in our period
- 11:48recovery program and RBSN. When you apply to work with us,
- 11:52you will be connected with the dietitian that works best with
- 11:56you based off of your goals, sport, and location.
- 11:59I just shared a little bit about who I work with and as you guys
- 12:01know, Jenna is our running specialist at RBSN.
- 12:04So Jenna, who else do you work with besides just runners?
- 12:08I work with mostly endurance athletes, so yes, definitely
- 12:11running is the first thing that comes to mind when I think of
- 12:13endurance sport. That includes anybody training
- 12:15for 1/2 marathon, marathon, high school and college age, cross
- 12:19country and track. I also see swimmers,
- 12:22triathletes, and then I see a lot of dancers as well.
- 12:24So if you fall into one of those categories, there's a good
- 12:27chance that we will be meeting during your initial discovery
- 12:30call when you apply to RBSN. That's one of the coolest things
- 12:33I think that we have seen over the last couple of months with,
- 12:37you know, launching our period recovery program and working
- 12:39with so many athletes is we just had the opportunity to work with
- 12:42so many different types of athletes like all across the
- 12:45United States and all across the world.
- 12:47And as our team grows, it's been great to really start to
- 12:50specialize and provide even more in depth care to specific sports
- 12:54and specific athletes. Totally agree.
- 12:56I think it's wonderful too that we can all lean into like our
- 12:58own personal experiences and draw from that.
- 13:01Riley having a background as a collegiate athlete and Lily
- 13:04being in that post grad era herself.
- 13:06All of us kind of taking like that own specialization based on
- 13:09we understand the world that we're working with and then we
- 13:12pair that together with the knowledge that our team has of
- 13:15helping you get your period back.
- 13:16So we're really, really excited to have Lily on board.
- 13:18You are going to see her on a couple of podcast episodes that
- 13:22Lily is going to be a repeat guest again.
- 13:24We're just so excited to share like her with you.
- 13:27You are going to love her as much as we do.
- 13:30So even if you are a new listener to the Eat More Carbs
- 13:32Podcast or you are a longtime fan of the Eat More Carbs
- 13:35Podcast, again, thanks for being here and please join us in
- 13:38welcoming Lily to the team. We're just super excited to have
- 13:41Lily as part of the RBSN team officially.
- 13:43Lily, do you have any final thoughts or final adds to being
- 13:46here and being part of RBSN? I'm just so.
- 13:48Thankful to be here and I can't wait to start working with
- 13:51people and helping them get their period.
- 13:52Back Lily, where can people find you?
- 13:54Instagram is Lily Reimer Nutrition.

- 14:02my life, along with some content as well.
- 14:05Thank you so much for listening to this episode of the Eat More
- 14:07Carbs podcast. We have been so excited to share
- 14:10the news that Lily is officially joining the team.
